After having three negative experiences with Public Storage at this location, it is time for me to share my experience so that others may be spared similar experiences. My first experience was receiving a call saying "we need you to bring us a key" so that we can enter your unit on account of reported flooding in the adjacent unit. The water damage was mostly contained to the adjacent unit; I didn't have any damage on account of all of my belongings were in watertight totes. The water leak was the result of improper drainage maintenance around the building and parking lot.
The second issue was 4 months after moving into a 10x30 unit I received notification that my rent was being changed; per their contract they are allowed to change your rate once per year. When I inquired why my rent was going up 15% I was told their operational expenses were going up and they need to cover the increased cost of toilet paper; no I am not making this up! At this point I elected to move into a smaller 10x20 unit that was 1/3rd less expensive. Well guess what. After 4 months of being in the smaller unit I just received notice that effective 30 day henceforth my rent will be going up 21%! That is correct a twenty one percent increase.
Technically they are allowed to do this per their contract, but I think their willingness to stick me with a percentage increase this large speaks to the company's practice of simply looking after their bottom line. I know they can't justify a 21% increase other than to simply say that new price reflects the current spot market for storage units today in this market.
If you are going to rent a unit from Public Storage go in knowing full well that you too will very likely receive your annual rent increase a few months after moving in (they have got you seeing how hard and expensive moving your stuff is), and if my experience is any guide, you can expect your increase to be 15%, 20% or even more. RENTER BE FORWARNED!

The management has lied to me about my things being auctioned off yesterday and I was able to check their work and I found out more than I bargained for. The manager told me I owe $283. I had to pay that full amount on my birthday April 22 2019 and if I didn’t they’d be auctioning my entire unit. I was able to call their bluff and I logged into my online account and to my surprise I only had to pay $113 and no auction and I was told by the DM the same thing. I had to pay $283 to avoid auction and they did not realize I had an online account and my reservation #. I was not given the advertisement price of $1 and overcharged and harassed by the management to continue to pay more than I was quoted and more than I owe.
This sickens me to how many people fell victim to this scam and walked away from their family heirlooms and in reality they were being hoodwinked by a consumer scam. I was not given my online discount and not told my price is reduced by paying online. In actuality I owe only $113 no auction or anything else. I am appalled and will be reporting BBB and the rest of the chain of commands. You pick the wrong victim this time. Choose your prey wisely or fall victim to your own bs sucka.

Never, EVER trust your belonging to these smarmy crooks. "Climate control" is **. Everything I own is a total loss. Everything is wet and covered in mold. The Insurance they made me purchase, (google class action suit Public Storage) told me that they would only be giving 250.00. I was told I must inventory everything. They admitted this facility has had a "fungus event" and the HVAC had stopped working *admitting guilt* but that meant they only reimbursement 250.00. I was never informed of this "event". This makes no sense. They don't send out an adjuster, it's "your responsibility" to take pics and provide all documentation. This is meant to discourage you, hoping you just take the 250.00 and go away.
I will be renting Billboards all over town with the pics of my mold covered belongings and spreading the word among a LARGE number of followers on my social media accounts. I am also going to the local news station. Public Storage has picked a fight with the wrong person. As a survivor of domestic violence, I employ a full-time private investigator to keep me safe. She is good, very good at what she does. Every single thing I do to you will be 100% legal. Let the games begin.

I was just locked inside of Public Storage at Austell Georgia's location for nearly 30 mins while exiting from moving my few things out from mine and a friend's unit while there were 4 employees vehicle's right there in plain sight! I didn't have my code and was let in to move out my things since my friend retrieved his and moved to Miami on Friday. The staff let me in the gate today therefore knew I had to get out!!! They totally ignored me and the door was locked when I pulled it. I laid on my car horn then called inside 4 times but the dirty suckas wouldn't answer! I'M LIVID!
I live 3 hours away and had to get back for work. I called headquarters in Glendale California for help and was told that they wouldn't take my complaint because I'm not the primary holder!!! Are they serious! It doesn't matter because they were shown ID and knows my name is on the agreement. He and I both spoke to Jennifer on Friday and informed them I would be coming. He gave authorization. I called them today but was told Jennifer was off and that there are no notes in the computer at all! After I made countless phone calls including to the district manager which never replied to myself or the employees on duty today, I was finally allowed to get my own belongings after they called my friend again to get the permission that he'd already given on Friday.
So the employee let me through the gate and knew I needed to get out! We are LIVID! This is unacceptable! I had to wait for a customer to let me out and he witnessed the whole thing. I should have called the police! And nobody has yet apologized to me. They should be shut down... Very bold business! How could headquarters not take my complaint because I wasn't my friend. It was me locked in and held prisoners not him! I will not stop until I have placed a review all over social media and every business site that I can possibly!

I have reached out to Public Storage corporate with respect to this matter prior to this posting but received no response - to no surprise given the events which have transpired with them. My father passed away last summer and my mother is the legal executrix of his estate. He has a storage unit at one of their facilities. My mother had been in contact with the regional manager who made the payment and transferring process extremely difficult and was entirely insensitive of the situation. Not to mention she requested information that would fall under personal information that legally she has no right to see.
My mother provided all of the necessary documentation - a copy of death certificate, legal appointment of her as executor, and the incompetent manager Donna **, who was supposedly consulting her legal department, refuses to allow my mother to pay the bill to bring current. She told my mother that she can only send emails to my father's email address (who is deceased). Clearly we have access to the account but the principle of the matter has gone above and beyond what could be described as disgraceful customer service. Legally my mother is in charge of my father's property given "pass-thru" laws as well the fact that she has been appointed Executrix of his Estate. Not only does my mother deserve an apology but this manager deserves a reprimand and a course in human decency. To say I am appalled would be too kind at this point. Again, to no surprise, no response from Public Storage.
It should be noted that the only person that was sympathetic and kind about the situation is Amanda from the local Morganville, NJ location. I did attempt to make a similar post on Google Reviews but you are only able to review the local facility and I will not give the local facility a negative review because they seem to be more competent and caring than their corporate counterpart.

At 1 month and 3 days I am already in auction status for 10$ that was a prorated amount that has now turned into 279.00. because I was told the 10$ needed to be paid by the 28th and on the 28th I was told they would not accept the payment and had already been issued a 30$ fee because it was not paid by the 27th. I was not told to pay by 27th and I started my storage on the 28th and nowhere does it say 27th. Anyway they said read terms and conditions that payment is due every 30 days.
Well guess what? My 2nd month storage had 31 days in it which made it due on the 27th which put me in auction status on the 1st of April 2019 which added more fees my storage of 148/month plus my 10$ prorated is now at 279$ 1 month and 3 days after I got the storage and was told by customer service they do not remove fees for anything at all within the 1st year you have storage. So it's pay double or we auction your stuff in your second month. These fees are so unreasonable and undisclosed as they think I should have known when there is 31 days in the month your due date is 1 day sooner so pay it on a day you didn't have any idea about or pay double like me.

This company are total crooks! They have snaked their way into Omaha, NE and bought out a friendly and reasonably priced company (Safe Guard Storage) and have turned the facility into a total sham and terrible place to store your personal property. I had been doing business with Safe Guard Storage for over 10 years and only had 2 price increases over that time which were $5 pr/mo increments but these crooks come in and within only a few months of taking over have notified me that they are increasing my rent $15!
And on top of that they are removing all the lights in the outdoor garages which means people that have larger garages are S.O.L. especially when it gets dark in the fall/winter they will not be able to see in their units. All to cheapen their amenities and to save a few dollars! I will be looking for another company to do business with.... Do yourself a favor and stay away from this crooked company!!!!

Although the salespeople were friendly, there were some upsetting practices. They tried to insist on us taking insurance for our unit which we did not want to pay. I called my homeowners insurance and was told that it was not necessary. It took a lot of work to get the charge removed after we demonstrated that we had the insurance. We were surprised the charge for the lock and assumed that would be included.
Our rental started at the time that we were moving to another location and of course quite busy. We assumed that the price quoted would be for a year but got a steep increase after 6 months... (Guess they know you are over a barrel and they can increase any amount). I called to negotiate less of an increase and was successful but didn't realize that it was only for a month. Before we left after 15 months, we were hit with another increase. Beware when you start with them that you don't know how much or how often they will increase. Our location in Marlton NJ was clean and safe but we were disturbed by their outlandish increases.

Do yourself a favor and stay away from the Public Storage Company. Their older facilities are deteriorating without any care, maintenance or cleaning of them. Their A/C units are old and do not cool off their supposed A/C controlled storage units and they will charge you a lot of money for those garbage units. Those facilities smell bad and their managers are very lazy, unprofessional and rude. They also bad mouth the company to every customer who presents a complaint to them. Now they have their facility's bathrooms locked up all day long and after 6:00 pm you cannot use their bathrooms at all because the managers were instructed by the regional district managers to do so! If you are still moving after 6:00 pm you need to bring a bucket with you in case you need to go to the bathroom, which you will have no access to! UNBELIEVABLE!!! What a shame this company is!

Public Storage just increased our rent by over 16% after 4 months. They can increase the rent at will and by whatever amount they want. This is what they call a ‘flexible’ solution. Of course this practice is never mentioned during the sales process.

This organization is nationwide and will rob you blind. Their units are not that good for the price you pay. They have recently raised their rates and if you are one minute late they will charge you 20% late fee and then start tacking on "lien" fees which are bogus. Making it impossible to get your belongings out with cutting off an arm and a leg for them. The 5 star ratings by some on their website are not validated reviews. I can't imagine how anyone could give a 5 star review. This is a crooked organization and probably run by the mafia.

This review is for the Northridge, California facility on Shirley Avenue. I have been here for a year-and-a-half. In that time they have increased me twice to almost $50 more than I signed up for. Neither the contract/nor the employees ever alluded to the fact that this would happen. They did bait and switch in the first six months. To make matters worse my unit was without lights for a week and the manager is unwilling to credit me for the limited access I had to the unit during this time. I called the district manager who could not even be bothered to call me back. This company doesn't care about customers. Just money.

I've used Public Storage several times in the past several years. 1st, they upsell you. You have to buy their lock which is about $15. Ok, whatever. Oh and if your storage unit has two doors, yes, you are paying for two locks. Always ask if they have a unit with only one door because they will try to rent you out that unit. Also they will keep trying to pressure you to buy any and all accessories they have. Luckily, I'm good with saying no and shopping around.
But that's not the real problem. In my contract it states that I must give at least a 3 day notice that I was vacating my unit. I gave them a month's notice via my account online. I told them I was moving out on the 1st of the month. I go to close out of my account and they still requested a bill for the full amount. Now in my past experiences, I have vacated the unit at various times of the month and have been refunded for any unused portion of the month. Now they don't. I have to pay the rent for the whole month even though it's in their system that I am moved out. I don't mind paying the balance if I am being refunded for the unused portion of the month. So what's the point in even putting in a 3 day notice. You should tell customers to be out by the end of the month. I was a long time customer of Public Storage and will never use their services again. I recommend you to never go with them.

It was easy to book the storage space (12' X 30') online. The move-in process was great. The folks working at the local store have been great. The issue is with their contract and pricing policy. If you read the fine print of the contract they can increase your rent at any time with 30 days notice, no justification and no cap to the increase. I have been in the unit for 7 months and have received several rent increases already. The local manager and regional manager blame it on the automated system which is set to increase the rent when the market rents go up due to supply and demand.
This is a lie as the market rate for my same size unit at the same location has steadily decreased since I moved in and is currently over $100 less than the rate they want to increase my rent to. When I have called the local manager and regional manager they have said there is nothing they can do, but then have agreed to hold the rent steady with no increases, always with the threat that the rate will go up. The time invested in calling and following up to keep the rent from increasing is crazy as it always takes several calls. I would recommend looking elsewhere for storage and read the contract.

Had no idea that Public Storage was not accredited with the Better Business Bureau. Had no idea that Public Storage had numerous complaints against them. Had no idea that they will auction your storage unit off in less than 60 days. Public Storage sucks, the worst storage company and is definitely not for their customers. This company hit customers with liens, lockout fees, late fees, double rent and ready to auction your property off by the 57 day. By time you're in your second month, near the auction date, you are owing this company under $400.00 if not that! Moreover, I've been with this company perhaps six years total. Had my fair share of experiences on things that could happen with my outside life, therefore, I was faced with the threat of auctions.
Each and every time it occurred, I'd always met the deadline and paid whatever extra they accumulated from me. No problem! However, I was faced with an auction date on 12/27/18 in which, I'd didn't know because I always follow my payments by the generated computer date. Nevertheless, I'd paid by computer the date that was registering 12/31/18. I would usually pay by computer. Furthermore, On 2/16/19, I was up for another auction, so I'd called to find out the auction date, to let them know that I'm having a hard time logging in to make a payment and only to be told that my unit was auctioned on 12/27/18. I was horribly shocked and in disbelief. Undoubtedly, I lives in New Jersey and my unit was at 1015 Gould Drive, in Bossier City, Louisiana, 71111. My unit was in my nephew's name who emergency moved me into that storage company as I was the one who always made the payments.
Nonetheless, it's hard to complain against this company on the inside. The customer Service sucks as well. Not professional with mannerism. My journey will be to put in a claim against this company who I highly recommend to DON'T patronize their business. I wouldn't refer or recommend them to anyone. Cube Smart I would recommend. Public Storage have nothing on them nor compare. Note: I'd planned on traveling to this storage to break it down and discontinued it. I just wanted to be the one to do so and had that opportunity. The bidder of that unit #G320 struck it rich and my life went down the drain.

Been in the unit for 3 months and just got a notice that they are raising their rates by 18%. Very convenient. And judging from the other reviews, this is their usual business practice. I'm sure they know people will just pay so they don't have to move all their stuff. I'll also pay so I don't have to move all my stuff, but posting a few negative reviews doesn't take much time and it makes me feel better about being had by Public Storage. I'll definitely be warning anyone who asks to avoid Public Storage as well. What a scam.

I had a problem with my unit. I was current and could not access. I called SEVERAL times. Went to the facility but no one was EVER in the office. I finally stopped paying my bill because I knew they would call me back then. Nope. I was wrong. I let it go for a while and then paid 300 of the balance. They finally called. I told them I was glad they called and about the issues I had been having. The lady told me she would look into them and call me back. They never did. I called the property manager back and she told me they inquired with the district manager who said and I quote "they know the balance due so too bad".
Ummm what about addressing the issues? I left a message directly for the district manager. No response. But my bill went up 300 plus dollars for one month. (The monthly rent is 168 and some change). What the heck. I called the 800 number but you can't talk to a live person. Tried to call property. Suprise. No answer. I'm so over this place. I guess I don't have a choice but to pay my balance in full and move from there. This is utter BS though. Did I mention they wanted me to pay 20 for a used rusty lock and that's what started this whole thing?

I had a storage unit in Houston, Texas (Greenbriar location) for almost three years. Last month, when I tried to pay a $5.00 balance, the payment went through as $ 500.00 due to a glitch in their website. When I called to address the issue, I was told it was irreversible and they aggressively went after the $500.00 dollar amount even after they knew it was a mistake on their part. I did not owe them $500.00, I owed them $5.00. I paid by electronic check, so they kept bouncing it back hoping to ** my bank account of the $500.00 that was not owed to them, which subsequently put my account into overdraft status. Then they attached a bad check fee, a late charge, and a lien fee onto my account. After I put a stop payment against them, they threw my unit into auction status and changed the auction date without ANY notification of an actual date and tried to take my stuff. Unless all their bogus fees, etc were paid they were going to auction my unit off.
This all happened in the span of two and a half weeks. Public Storage is a trap. Unethical. Complete rip off. This cost me $600.00 collectively. I saved my stuff by one day and that took aggressively contacting them daily to make sure my auction date had not changed. PS does not give notices on auction dates. You have to call them everyday to monitor the auction date or they will bump it up with no notice and sell your belongings to the highest bidder. Beware. Stay far away!

Two incidents of improper late fees and delinquency fees which the District Manager, Fatima, refused to help resolve. Public Storage Location 20175. 1) my credit card for auto pay was lost/stolen. I went online to pay with a different card. Public Storage processed it as a check and claimed it was returned by the bank (BECAUSE IT WAS A CREDIT CARD NUMBER) and then charged a $26.80 Delinquency fee and a $25 late fee. I would not have entered a credit card on a check payment page. You would have to enter a routing number and account number. There is no possible way that I inaccurately did this. The person working the desk told me that if an account is delinquent, it immediately converts a credit card payment to a check and submits all payments as only checks.
So when Public Storage converted my credit card payment into a check, they knew it would be returned because no such account existed. They then charged me late fees and a return check fee for a check I never wrote. This is clearly a fraudulent practice. 2) On 12/10 in an attempt to pay said late fees under threat of having my unit auctioned I went online to pay by credit card $196.80. I was then duplicate charged by Public Storage. I did not know this until I received my statement on or about 1/1/19. Without my knowledge, Public Storage then claims to have credited my account for the duplicate charge. I called my bank to investigate, and apparently the bank reversed one of the charges.
When the bank reversed the charge, with no notification to me, Public Storage then claimed I was again delinquent, because now what had been a credit on my account was now a delinquency and charged $88.30 in delinquency fees, even though I had no knowledge that the chargeback occurred, nor did I authorize duplicate payments for the $196.80. First, I called the facility and was told that the district manager Fatima had called and left me a voicemail about it. This is patently untrue. I never received a voicemail from her. I then called and left her a message. She never returned my call. I then had to go to the location in person.
Fatima was rude, unhelpful and condescending. She refused to reverse any of the aforementioned charges ($140.10 total at this point) and threatened to auction off my unit if I did not make a payment right then and there of $285.10 which included purported rent of $185.80, Insurance of $11.00, a late fee of $26.80 and a Lien Fee of $61.50. Thus a total of $239.40 has been stolen from me by Public Storage. These business practices are unconscionable. I suspect that the "website" often makes such mistakes and then it is blamed on the customer and fees are incurred. Having no recourse because their storage unit has now been taken, people are forced to pay these ridiculous fees. T
There is no possible way this is an isolated incident, every post on the Facebook page is a complaint, one star ratings on everything, tons of disgruntled customers. It appears to be, based on the manager's quote "we never refund late fees or charges. It is company policy" and the other employee's comment that credit card payments are "automatically" turned into check payments, a consistent business practice of the company. They have also blocked me from their Facebook page for suggesting to all the other disgruntled customers that they also file BBB Complaints and contact the media.

I allowed all the other things to slide, like the door being broken and you have to jiggle it to get in... No big deal, things happen. Then the carts were moved inside and only accessible during office hours so if you didn't have your own moving cart after hours you were out of luck... I understood that too 'cause they said people were stealing them. But when my mom was admitted to ICU in critical condition on life support and I spent every single night at the hospital by her bedside, paying my storage fee was not at the top of my priorities.
So when I received notification of the late fee, I immediately paid the rental fee and asked to have the late fee waived. I was told NO, even under the circumstances and that I would need to pay it. When moving out, was told I needed to pay the full months rent (moved out on the 12th) and was also charged a late fee. Of course it's their policy to not rescind late fees. Just a horrible way to treat a long term customer. If they could have figured out a way to squeeze me for even more money, I'm sure they would have. Be careful upon vacating... Even if the website says no payment required when you establish a move out date, don't assume it means you'll only be charged up to your move out date and can make your final payment at that time. You'll be charged the full month (even if moving out on the 1st) and charged a late fee... Was kind of surprised they don't have a bouncer waiting to toss you out the front door.

Oh I even reached out to the district manager and he was very rude and unprofessional and told me nothing he could do.

Beware. Read your contract before you sign every single little word and detail. They are full of big scams making you sign papers for a storage which is a scam. I don't recommend their service. I decided to cancel within the same day of renting a storage space. Just for a couple of hours they won't refund my monthly rent or insurance, only the stupid lock that you buy from them. Which is a scam. Too many loopholes, I don't recommend them.

I rented a storage unit and a couple of months later the rent increased. In November 2018 I was charged a $38.00 late fee even though on the contract it gives the 15th as the late date. In December 2018 I was again charged a late fee of $38.00 even though the rent was paid before the 15th. I physically visited Public Storage to discuss this concern, but the facility was semi~dark and the door was locked, yet there were two female employees sitting there talking on the phones. I knocked on the door and one of the young ladies opened the door (very unwelcoming).
I inquired about the late fee and she proceeded to tell me that in the state of Maryland the late fee calendar date had been changed to the 6th of the month. I told her that I never received notification of that change and she insisted that the notice had been both mailed and emailed. I asked her to show me what she alleges was sent to me, but she claimed that she couldn't pull it up online. This young lady's demeanor was negative, borderline disrespectful and void of compassion!!! The only mail that I ever got/get from Public Storage are my receipts. I never got an addendum showing any kind of 'late fee' calendar date change(s). I called the corporate customer services and they in turn gave me a number to the District Manager. I called the number I was given and absolutely nobody has bothered to return my call. Thank you for allowing me to vent. Be Blessed...

I’m writing this review about the office on Gould in Bossier City, Louisiana. I moved to Louisiana a couple of years ago with hopes to buy my home and start anew. In the beginning everything was ok about a year of searching and contemplating where... The price went up approximately 20 dollars. Ok fine I went to visit my children last year and became gravely ill, had to be hospitalized, lost some memory and more. Moving on, I am receiving calls from this office.
They cut my locks (2) off. I wasn’t 30 days late. I am under doctor's care cardiologist, orthopedic and more. They call every month almost like harassment. I paid my storage bill every month. I do not understand nor know in depth why they keep calling except for me to put my own lock on the storage or else I cannot open it without them in the office opening it, well I knew that I have the insurance on my storage therefore perhaps if anything is missing my insurance will replace it. To tell the truth I have not found a place to move into and my doctor hasn’t released me. I would like it if they would not call me as much. The storage is my stuff and my stuff and my stuff. I will not forget to pay for it nor will I forget the address where it is located.

They sent me a bill on Jan 2 to pay for taxes increased in Broward County Florida in the amount of .33 cents. I returned from vacation on the 8 of Jan. Just to find out that I have a late fee payment of 20 dollars plus 33 cents equal to 20.33 dollars for not paying these .33 cents. I paid it today but I believe I can not pay for their mistake. They should have add this on the bill I paid and also they should have given more time to pay the .33 cents. They gave 3 days to pay. Very upset at this. They robbed Me 20 dollars.

Today, they notified me of an increase from $129 to $142 even though the current advertised price for a unit my size is $123 in the same building (and no, that is not the advertised sale price for new customers). I've rented before, and I keep changing units to the lower price, but I'm really tired of that. I wish they would just have honest and fair business practices.

I am a musician and have been a tenant at another storage facility. Given that I live in a small studio in San Francisco I've used that space for guitars. I wasn't using PA speakers, guitar amplifiers and cabinets, any oversized items that wouldn't fit in my apartment. Over the last 3 years I've been a model tenant. Always paid on time and in full and my experience and relationship with the employees of that Facility has been wonderful. They've always been helpful, courteous and friendly.
My only issue was with the hours closing at 5 p.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. on weekends. For the amount of money that I was paying I decided to seek out a 24-hour place or one that was at least open until the evening. I thought I'd found it when I read the ad for Public Storage saying convenient hours of access 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. but I missed the small print that read "May vary by location".
When I came into the office they did the standard procedure of asking me what I was going to be storing you there. I told them musical equipment at which time the other man that was working there in a condescending way said, "You can't access it all the time. We can't have a whole lot of in and out. This is a storage facility. We can't have people loitering out front." As if to suggest that I was Indigent and planned on living in the space.
When I told them that I was almost certain that I had read on the website that they were open till 10 p.m they were very dismissive. Said, "Absolutely not." I fumbled around with my phone trying to find the website where it is said they're open till 10 and another potential customer came in. He was a clean-cut strait-laced businessman type. They asked how they could accommodate him. He said in what and what would he be storing. He replied that it was paperwork and documents boxes mostly business stuff but he needed access to it all the time or a lot. They assured him that that was not a problem. So my point is employees in this company treat people different based on what they look like, how they dress. I'm friendly, polite and articulate and it doesn't feel good to be treated like a second-class citizen because you have long hair. I'll spend my money somewhere that is not prejudiced against rockers.

I have been a customer of the Public Storage location on Ogden in Aurora IL for 7 years. I had 24hr access due to my small business needs that occasionally fall outside of office hours. Earlier this year when trying to enter after-hours for a job, I was denied access. I tried multiple times. I called the manager from the parking lot with no answer. I left a message which was never returned. This weekend I had another job and found a pile of snow and ice in front of my storage unit. The manager was out, and office locked. I had to clear the snow myself.
Again today I called and left a message. It was returned this time. The manager blamed the snow pile on their snow removal vendor. Upon asking about my 24-hour access revocation without notice, the manager said I never had it. Public Storage took no responsibility. You might think they would value a long-term customer who tolerates their annual ~10% cost increases each year. Sadly no. If you are a business, I would strongly discourage you from considering Public Storage. It is not worth the risk to your business.

From the moment I made an inquiry at Public Storage in Thornton Colorado the customer service has been poor. This poor customer service deteriorated when I became the victim of domestic violence and they couldn't care less about protecting me from my abuser by simply allowing me to retrieve my property. First, the procedure to sign up for a unit requires an appointment during hours that most working persons cannot meet (appointments are limited and not designed to be convenient). At this point the customer service really breaks down as the lies begin. I was told to simply have a friend come and set up the unit. That I can set everything up online, including multiple authorized users.
The personnel there do not clearly explain their procedures and policies with respect to unit ownership vs. authorized users and never explained to me that I would be putting any items stored there in the hands of this "Friend" forever. After having many of my belongings in a unit that a friend who happened to be staying in my home at the time set up for me as the personnel at Public Storage suggested (something I would not have done if they had not suggested this) and still being listed as an authorized user, the personnel there denied me access to the unit (despite having a code and key).
I explained that things had changed. I was now the victim of domestic violence at the hands of this "friend" and that I wanted to transfer the unit to my name or simply retrieve my property as I had a protection order in place protecting me from the "friend" who set up the unit. (This friend per the protection order was not allowed to contact me and I was advised by counsel and the police not to contact him). All I wanted to do was get my things and move them elsewhere so they were out of this abuser's control and I would not inadvertently bump into him.
Not only was the woman completely inattentive and uncaring (despite knowing the "friend" and me from previous dealings), she was harsh towards me and told me to get the police if I need to. I requested the police come to do a civil standby and to deal with me retrieving my things (which is commonly done when protection orders are in place in order to retrieve property).
While the police were there, the women stated she had to contact the "friend" to make sure I was still authorized. The "friend" never had expressly unauthorized me and never changed the lock to suggest I should not enter the unit -- she apparently went out of her way to make this harder for me even though the police were present and could see I had a key. I confirmed his email and his phone number with her. He did not answer; she continued to be rude to me while the police were present. She told the police I was not welcome on her property and that the unit was not in my name. I asked what would happen if the unit wasn't paid for, she stated that the items would be sold at auction. I left without my property in tears.
For weeks a third-party tried to deal with both the "friend" and public storage to retrieve the property. This third-party told me they continued to contract this "Friend" to no avail. I continued to receive emails from Public Storage addressed as, "Dear 'friend's' name." Despite their insistence that I was not the unit owner, could not access my property and wasn't welcome on the property. To make matters worse after the first missed payment on the unit, they called (a number that they knew was mine and not the "friend's"), leaving a message saying, "Hi 'friend's name'. We need to talk to you immediately." I immediately called back (no answer) and left a message stating this was not "friend's name's" number, that I believed they knew this and that I find this to be inappropriate given their position towards me. I received the same voicemail the next day again addressed to "friend's name."
I continue to receive emails to my email address (despite clear communication that the email address they are using is not the email for the unit holder). I feel that Public Storage Unit stole my property from me and went out of their way to make a very difficult experience worse. I have rented other units with other persons at other facilities in the past without incident. There is no need for Public Storage's rigid policies that are not clearly explained to customers. I am not sure how these people stay in business.

They prorate to move in but will not when you move out. Everything seems to be a scam and see how much money they can get out of you. I have been calling the local facility which one of the staff argued about what I got when I moved in, she was wrong and I was correct with zero apology.
I have been calling the customer service line since the beginning of December with a return call on my voicemail saying call the customer service line back which is repeated when you call back. When I answer my phone they hang up right away. I have called the district manager for my location several times with no return call. I called the corporate office and left messages for the customer relations, Debra or Deborah again asking for return calls with zero callbacks. They charged me a late fee since I could not get the online service to work. They will charge you $20 to do it over the phone with them and $10 if you do it on the automated line. So not customer service oriented although that is what their slogan is about, if you expect a return call for issues and you ask for supervisors then forget it and they have business hours to respond not business days. On Tuesday May 29, 2018, I got stuck at Public Storage on Lee Highway in Centreville, VA. I was there for about 3 hours from 8 to about 11. While there I called Public Storage’s corporate and talked to people who did nothing but blame me for being stuck. I told them the door was malfunctioning. They told me it’s not opening because I left late. That was not the case. Something was wrong with the gate. They berated me and yelled at me. One of the women I talked to was so rude scolding at me “pay attention”, but I was trying to talk to bother her and the police officer, who was on the other side of the gate to help me. Not once did any of them agree with me that the door was malfunctioning. After multiple attempts, I talked to a representative, who told me to call the local police, as they should have a code to open me.
So I called the police who tried codes they had. None worked. He talked to them and spent two hours punching in codes to no avail. No one in that company told me of any plan to get me out of there. At around 11, I parked my car in the back and the police drove me home. The next day I called Public Storage about 20 times. Literally. I was nervous about my car being towed while I was working. At about noon I took Uber and got my car from Public Storage. When I got there the alternative gate was opened because the normal gate was malfunctioning like I told them. I went inside and told the employee that I had to leave my car overnight. Her response was “Oh, so that is why your car was there this morning” I was waiting in line to talk to her about how I had to take Uber and how I believe the company should pay for it. She then said to me “So what do you want?”
Stunned at her unempathetic response, I just left and got out of the line. It was so rude. When I went home I wrote a review both on their Instagram page about what happened to me and them on Yelp and Google. The Public Storage Instagram blocked me. The next day (Thursday) I got a call from Public Storage District Manager Jillian **. The very first sentence out of her mouth was “how do you feel?” Bewildered by that question, I said, “I feel fine.” Second sentence was to tell me that she called me because she saw my review and then told me to delete it because it would hurt her performance. Taken aback by the same apathy I got from the woman when I picked up my car, I said, “I would think about it.”
I didn’t think they did anything to justify me removing the bad review. Because to me, if I knew someone got stuck in a facility I was in charge of and I couldn’t find that person, especially a woman, I would call that person ASAP to make sure they are okay. She didn’t do that. The other ‘manager” who supposedly checked up on me didn’t do that. The woman working at Public Storage when I picked up my care couldn’t care less as well. Jillian also told me she talked to me that night I was stuck. So she knew I was stuck there. No excuse why she waited till a negative review to check up on me. She then went to tell me she had someone come to check on me two nights prior. She never told me of this person that night that I called. In fact, I left that place believing no one would come to open the gate for me and that Public Storage, including Jillian **, shrugged their shoulders and left me there.
Later when I got home, I saw a self-gratifying email District ** Jillian ** sent me where she said things to the tune of ‘I am sorry I tried so hard to help you and you couldn’t be helped’, ‘I am sorry that I sent someone and when they came you were not there’ “I…, I…, I…, I…”. I emailed her back and asked her why she never told me that she sent someone to help me? I got off the phone with her thinking no one would come and that they didn’t really care. I got off the phone with them STILL accusing me of leaving late, and still giving me new codes to put in the access system, after telling them multiple times that the gate was malfunctioning. She emailed me back saying she told the police officer she was going to bring someone.
I told her, “Why would you tell the police officer and not me? It makes NO sense. I am the paying customer of this storage facility who happened to have gotten locked inside because of a malfunctioning gate. But you tell a third party, who never told me, that you are bringing someone. I am a woman stuck outside of a gated facility that has NO lights, pitch dark and I’m frightened. Also the police officer told me himself that I should call them the next morning and let them have it.”
I told her I won’t remove my review to help her work “performance”, which I took to mean her BONUS check would be affected by me leaving a bad review. Her response to me was to tell me that her boss knows everything and sat there with her during her phone call where she told me to remove my review so she could get a better performance score. She also told me she has tried time and time again to apologize and make my experience pleasant. In the same email she told me about a man named Dilraj who “who left his 6 month old BABY at home with his wife to drive to the property.” And I found that comment about the baby to be not only laughable but asinine. REALLY?
I felt like she was guilting me by saying he had to leave his 6 month old to come get me. He is a manager doing his job. I am sure he doesn’t take his baby to work. And I’m sure Jillian doesn’t take her daughter to work. I don’t take my kids to work. No one does. That is how it is. I never complained to her about leaving my family to be stuck, nor did I say how when I went home my family was asleep. Because I never blamed her nor Public Storage for being stuck there. Because I know it was a mistake. When you are a manager you are responsible for unintended problems that arises. That is what Dilraj and Jillian ** signed up for. She then told me she offered to pay for my Uber fare because she felt sorry for me, but she can tell that cannot turn my experience around.
No you should offer because you are LEGALLY responsible for paying it. You are not doing me a favor. I sent my receipt to her MULTIPLE times with NO reimbursement. I have tried calling her, because I felt her emails to me were her self-serving way of telling her bosses what she did, instead of conversing with me. She doesn’t pick up. In fact she stopped communicating with me. Half her emails were also about how “my boss knows everything” “I am forwarding this to my boss”. Which tells me she never meant to pay me back in the first place. Her whole purpose in contacting me, which she admitted to when she first contacted me TWO days after the incident, was to make sure I remove my review, for her to get a lucrative payday. When I didn’t her boss and her obviously came up with a plan to ignore me, because they were going to lose money due to a bad performance review.
Jillian ** knows better. She worked at Target as a team leader for 3 years after working there for another 4 years, and knows customer service. I’m sure having a degree in English from Stony Brook University didn’t help much but she has worked in customer service enough to know that you don’t dodge a customer for 7 months. I didn’t know how to go about it because it was obvious she was upset, but why should I remove a review for a woman who did nothing but SCOLD me about someone leaving their BABY at home to take care of a customer who was stuck at a place for 3 hours at night? Having been a manager before. I would have made it right with my customer. And made sure to follow up. She hasn’t contacted me, but I have made attempts to contact her. To me she is retaliating by ignoring me.
Please do not use this company. Jillian ** is a horrible District manager and the worst manager of ANY company I have ever dealt with. When I left Public Storage, my items had water damage ALL over them and also water was all over my items. And there are BUGS. I called them about that several times, and they never pick up. Public Storage directs phone calls by if you are a current renter or not. If you are not people will pick up, if you are good luck getting someone. Once you are a customer they don’t care. Jillian needs more training in being a manager. She has failed big time.

I was told by the onsite and district manager that the rental prices are market driven and therefore because there was a shortage of rental units at the size that I had rented the price would go up. In my mind they pulled a bait, getting you in at the lower rate, and rate, increasing your monthly rental fee once they have you in there. I rented a large unit for my daughter's things, she lived in a three bedroom home, so to move it to another unit, which would require a large truck, would be costly. I selected Public Storage as my storage facility in June 2018, for a rate of $65 per month. I just received notice that beginning Dec 2018 my rate will be $82 per month, a $17 hike, 26%. This is very high rate increase and the facility has limited access hours (only 9:30-5:00 pm on weekends, 9:30-6 pm on weekdays).

I really do hate Public Storage now! It's been trouble from day one. I paid all my bills on time. No more than 3 days late one time. I waited on a name change that should have never been changed to begin with for 2 1/2 months. Came in to the store with proof 3-4 times. Called corp/customer service 5-10 times at the 9400 S. Tryon location in Charlotte NC. When I first came in no one was smiling or greeted me except the new hire in training who actually did my contract. The asst. Manager had a horrible attitude with her short, know it all, smart answers huffing and puffing. I need 24 hour access and had it done once before and now I can't get it. They need to take it down everywhere if that's the case. At this point I hate Public Storage. No one can reach out to the district managers and it's very annoying that no one can help.

No communication of any kind was sent out, even when they were made aware of the severity of the issue, no action was taken to remedy the problem or send communication out! They do not take any action to remedy the problems or send communication to their customers to notify them of a problem that could cause health and safety issues. They deny responsibility of any sort! They have not taken any type of action regarding improving their pest control (if there is any!) or look into the mold issues which is another health and safety issue at this facility!
No one takes responsibility of any sort and they don't give out the name of their risk management representative! Worse company and customer service I have ever dealt with. I moved my stuff into a small unit a couple of years ago. Over the course of my time at Public Storage, I didn't have any significant problems with the company. They hike your rate by $5 every six months a couple of times, but apparently that's pretty standard for storage units. The unit that I rented was pretty dirty - it was an inside unit but not temperature controlled, and the top of the unit was open to the building's rafters. Needless to say, I found A LOT of bird droppings and nesting materials all over my stuff, so make sure you cover your things if you move in here.
My real problem with Public Storage didn't come until my move-out day. I walked into my unit and the light bulb was burned out. The unit is pitch-black because it's an interior unit, but I wasn't too worried about it at first - I'll just head to the office and they can change out the light bulb, right? I walked back to the office, passing an employee who is sweeping the aisles. I had driven past the same guy as I drove back to my unit. He seemed busy and didn't look up as I passed, so I kept moving to the office. I get to the office and the door is locked, and no one will be back for another 45 minutes. Again, this is more irritating than anything. Apparently I just have bad timing.
I walk back to my car/unit to wait, but on the way I see the same guy still out sweeping. Now, my unit is all the way down the aisle from the office, but it's in the same building, which means this guy could see me enter the PS facilities, go to my unit, head to the office, and then head back toward my unit. He jumps in his golf cart to drive away as I approach, and I have to step toward him and give a bit of a shout for him to stop. Now this is where things get fun.
"Excuse me, do you change light bulbs?" "Nope, I can't do that." "Uhhh...?" "We're all out and I can't order any more." "I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm trying to move my stuff and can't see anything." "Well. What am I supposed to do? I'd have to go out and buy light bulbs out of my own pocket." This goes back and forth a bit, before I finally tell him that this really isn't my problem, asking for a light bulb is well within reason given that I'm paying for a unit with a light in it, and I'd appreciate some solution. I ask if there is someone returning to the office soon. Nope, he's it! He finally agrees to grab a light bulb from another unit to put in mine for the time being. That's a perfectly acceptable solution! I'm not sure why that was so difficult to come up with.
As a side note - these bulbs are up way higher than I am able to reach, so this isn't something I could have just done on my own. This guy had to use a long pole to get the job done. Unfortunately the new (re-used) bulb wouldn't work either, and he determined that there was an electrical issue in my unit. Again, no solutions. No one he could call, and no flashlights or anything similar for me to borrow. He left me standing in the dark to figure it out for myself. Not only was this employee incapable of engaging in any sort of problem-solving, he also watched me struggle to find someone in the office and would have buzzed right by me in his golf cart, knowing full well that he was the only employee on the property at the time. I pulled my bird-dropping covered possessions out of my unit, and I swore to never use this company again.

I am writing to complain about my belongings being destroyed at Public Storage's Butler Road facility early in 2018. I rented there for a few years starting in 2016 with no real problems except that the place was dusty and needed more cleaning which I stated to the supervisor there on several separate occasions. I found my unit infested by rodents on May 1, 2018. I immediately filed a claim and moved out and expected Public Storage, a big and powerful company to acknowledge their responsibility to keep rodents at bay and thus compensate me for my belongings lost especially since I did not store any food in my unit.
This is not an unreasonable request just to be compensated for items lost from a company who rakes in millions a year. You would expect Public Storage to have fair business practices and have a fund for duped customers like me. This should be normal practice! I calculated the damage and it came to $2300. This amount is nothing to Public Storage. Items lost were mostly gently used baby items (I was saving for my next child) including a car seat, bassinet, pack and play, baby carriers, and my things including dining room chairs, speakers, wick basket, air beds, among other things.
To my absolute horror their insurance company Sedgwick (or Orange Door) does not cover Vermin and could only compensate for $250. This adds serious insult to injury. I then wrote to all the executives individually including Ronald Havner, John Reyes, Debra **, and they did not care that I was just asking to be compensated for baby items lost. Seriously what a lack of heart!
I cannot express my absolute horror at the way I have been treated by Public Storage. I would like to ask that Public Storage fairly compensate me for my lost belongings. Informing renters that a rodent risk exists and that separate insurance to cover possible damage if necessary is critical. I was not told at the time this was necessary. I would also like to urge that Public Storage take the courtesy to alert renters when rodent problems are evident (there were droppings all over the second floor) in the facility so that renters can check in on their belongings. Furthermore, regular cleaning of older facilities such as Butler Road is necessary. I am now renting at Cube Smart and have been impressed with their facilities which are spotless as they are regularly cleaned.

THE WORST PLACE EVER!!! While moving my things in a unit I'd previously had reserved I noticed I was running out of room and that I would need another unit. After making a reservation online the I went to the office to pay for the unit. The employee was aware that I'd made the reservation took me to see it & we went back to the office to confirm and pay. I stayed in the office for 25 minutes waiting on the employee to complete the transaction while being walked through it over the phone.
My cc was charged. She told me everything was fine and to let her know when I got to the gate if the access code worked. IT DIDN'T! so I used the code form the other unit I have to get in because I didn't have time to go back in and wait any longer being that my moving guys had been waiting the whole time I was there unable to continue not knowing where I wanted my items placed. All while on a schedule and not to mention we were EXHAUSTED from unpacking two 26" trucks.
I went back to the unit to continue unpacking when the employee came to the unit and TOLD me that I needed to come back to the office because of something that she did wrong (made the account in my mom's name that my other unit name is in) so AGAIN I had to go back. When I got back to the office she again was on the phone being instructed on how to correct the issue this time I was there for 15 minutes. She told me that they reversed the charges and I needed to present my cc again to be charged AGAIN! I told her that now those funds will not be available to me for 3 days and that, that is a big inconvenience for me.
I told her that I would need to leave because I had to return the two trucks that I have and I was VERY close to the time of the return. After waiting a few more minutes I couldn't wait any longer. She said everything was ok. I left she then RAN to my car tapped on my window and TOLD me that I HAD TO COME BACK IN that there was some paperwork she didn't have me sign. NOW I'M PISSED!!!
I WENT BACK IN she was still on the phone being walked through on how to retrieve the forms. after getting up looking in the file cabinets and couldn't find any. They came through via fax she said she'll have to use those and that I'd have to come back to the facility and sign the originals. I got my two moving trucks back late and was charged an additional day. FOR BOTH which caused me more financial strain, the next morning was called by a different employee asking can I come back to the facility one day this week because they have no payment for the unit.

I am very unhappy with my experience using Public Storage. I've been trying to move out of and close my unit for months now, and the company has made it extremely difficult. In my move, I lost the keys to my unit, but they told me I can have the lock cut. In order to do that, I had to visit the unit in person because there is no way to fill out the required form online. So I made arrangements to visit the facility and filled out the form. I was told that the manager would call me ahead of time to let me know when they would be available to cut the lock, so I can be at the property. They cut locks at the end of every month (or so I was told).
No one called me at the end of the month, and considering I have almost nothing left in my unit, I assumed they were able to cut it without issue. Then I continued to be charged the following month. When I tried to call about it, the employee was extremely difficult and told me that she couldn't help me. I asked for the manager's phone number and only got it after telling her that I wanted to speak directly with her manager.
I left messages for the manager and called a few times... No response. He finally called me back and - to put it nicely - was not pleasant to speak with at all. I explained my situation and he clearly only cared about the money. Every time I tried to explain that I was having a difficult time closing the unit at all, instead of getting a human response, he told me that I still owe money and can't get out of it. I told him multiple times that I understand, but I am trying to close the unit and they are not letting me. I wanted to know if there was another way to close it or if they would at least admit that the system was faulted and have some human decency. I was interrupted multiple times for the manager to tell me that I owe money. I will now have to take a day off work to bring a locksmith out on my own dime on top of paying additional months' cost for the unit because they won't close it.

Within 8 days of buying a storage and taking over a previous storage company Public Storage Corporate gave me a letter to vacate. I was the other storefront directly next door inside of the building, on a commercial month to month lease, in which I had no reason to suspect the current owners would terminate my contract too abruptly. I had only been renting there two months when it went up for sale, and only four months when Public Storage took it over. During that time I painted the entire shop, had signs put up outside and by the street, changed all my LLC information, website info and had a grand opening!! I had a steady stream of clients and leads being built for this location.
The day it became Public Storage, and they took over, immediately they locked me out of the back gate and said no customers could use the trash. It was only for public employees. I was paying for trash, water and utilities. On several occasions I asked the managers what was going to happen to me, and with no real information and answers they acted like I was overreacting. Told me they would give me a better commercial lease because they had nothing on file. I showed up on a Sunday and all of my signs had been removed, even though I had been previously promised it would stay up on the building. The awning taken down over my entrance. I had to ask them for my signs and then they acted arrogant when I had to ask for them back. I went in that following Monday and the female manager told me to bring all of my lease info in because she didn't have anything on me and Public would do their own commercial lease.
The very next day I got a letter saying I was being terminated. My heart has never sank so low. I built my business up around this location as it was affordable and had natural light and room to store my props. All the money and effort being put into this location was for nothing. I reached out to the Commercial Property Manager, Candace **, from whom I received a letter of termination from, and pleaded with her for an extension. They gave me an additional month and a half. When payment was due, I tried to go in as I always have and I couldn't pay, since they had no information on me.
So I had to blindly mail a check to someone I've never done business with. I had to call and demand they email me in writing that I did in fact have a deposit and I needed to know when and how it would be returned. During these couple of calls she bragged about the millions of square feet and hundreds of commercial properties they have and that I was not an exception. Basically, they know what they're doing, and go screw yourself, because I don't have a legal leg to stand on. These people have no remorse and zero ethics!!

I’d received an email from PS on the 8th (two days after a payment would be considered late) informing me payment has not been received and a $26 late fee was being assessed. I immediately checked my bank account and after confirming that the payment indeed hadn’t been taken out, I contacted the local PS facility to look into it and that I felt I shouldn’t have to pay the late fee. The following day I was informed that they’d requested a waiver for the late fee but it was denied by corporate.
I asked for and was given the contact number of the regional manager, whom I’d called and left several messages over the next few days. When I did get a callback, he refused to waive the late fee. He even went as far as to tell me that I should have looked into why the payment was not taken from my checking account before it had gone past the point of being late. He certainly didn’t make me feel like a valued customer, even though they’d benefited from my rent increasing each year, from $90 to currently over $150. Evidently getting that $26 was more important. But in the end, Mr Regional Manager did me a huge favor. I paid my bill with the late fee as soon as I got off the phone with him, and the next morning gave PS my move out notice was moved into a space of the same size by that afternoon at a competitors facility for 2/3 the price.

The contract they provide will have you agree to their raising rates whenever they want (The above seems particularly exploitative of low-income people who aren't trained to read legalese and who are less likely to be able to afford the cost of transition from one storage space to another if they don't like their treatment). It is evidently standard practice to auction customers' property without ensuring receipt of notice. A couple cases in point: Was two weeks late on payment, and they sent me an email saying there was a late fee, which was fine and expected. However, it wasn't until I logged in to the payment section of the site that I found the small notice that they planned to auction my property. It would have been thousands of dollars of stuff in exchange for a belated $150 payment.
A short time after, a friend shared with me that she'd had a credit card changed and thought her Public Storage account was on autopay. Six months later she'd discovered that they'd auctioned her things. She had plenty to pay them with. It was just an error that they were apparently uninterested in correcting, i.e. with proper notice, she would have simply been able to provide them with the right card. So, it seems like SOP for this company. Customer service is poor. Avoid Public Storage.

Overall, the Stacy Rd, McKinney TX facility is nice, close to my home, and has a helpful staff. The biggest problem with Public Storage is that it's a month-to-month rental facility - which gives them the right to raise rates, after you have your goods nicely tucked in. They were not upfront about this. Folks are better off negotiating a contract with other storage facilities. Such a shame, but that is life with large corporations. I'd rather have them be upfront that rates will be raised - but then again, the truth is elusive in our world. Go elsewhere, there are plenty of options.

2 year customer and I'm never going back. I often work long shifts and former OTR driver so I never make in time to pay in person so I pay online. After an incident with identity theft I had to make a late payment a month (or two) back. The majority of the stuff I had in my truck is in storage and never got around to clearing the building out due to my current job. So I figured since I recently bought a camper for my upcoming vacation that a lot of the stuff in storage may be useful. Well there was a different lock and tag on the unit and the reason for it is because of the ONE LATE PAYMENT. "It was in my policy" and they're "not required to alert the customer about being late " and "it's up to the site manager to make the courtesy call"... NO text, no automated system, but hey you get a postcard in the mail whenever they increase the rates on your building.
If you put the poor girl on the phone repeating that "policy" line in front of a drive thru microphone I doubt you could tell the difference and the results of your requests would be the same. You lost me as a customer and if they had any kind of way to review their company (SPOILER ALERT... they don't, see for yourself) I would go all millennial on it. Will poop emojis.

I was desperate not to lose my son's belongings 19 years he's had because he left for the Navy so I needed storage and the only place I can find was Public Storage on Route 23 in Wayne. I couldn't believe the price for a 10x10 which was 163! They were not willing to work with me one penny off since I'm low income but I was not going to lose my only child belongings for the past 19 years, I only had help for one day from one person as I am somewhat disabled and cannot do much but anyway the girl who runs the office is like a **. Telling me I'm forced to the girl who runs the office is like a **. For that price they should throw things in but yet they force you to buy a simple little lock for $25 and they tell you it's mandatory to buy insurance from them. No way!
I ran out Home Depot and bought a $5 lock and put it on and did not buy insurance. That was July 2017 Then in September 2017 I get a notice my rent was being raised by $22 per month for a 10x10 area! How can it be legal for them to raise my rent when I was only there two months? I asked them both questions and not one answer. I am alone and literally have no choice but to leave my things there and since last year I've never been one day late but unfortunately I was the victim of an assault a few months ago and since then I've had to leave my job and just many other awful things have been happening and I forgot to make my payment on the 6th last month and I remembered on the 8th so besides my rent now being 184 95 per month, they tacked on a $31 late fee.
I almost threw up. I had to pay $215 for a 10 by 10 space and I asked her to please waive it that I have been on time for the past year. One day late and she said they don't do that. That is such disgusting customer service and I have been a c-level executive personal assistant to the most powerful, influential, prominent CEOs and their executive teams for the past 30 years and I have never ever heard of a company being allowed to treat customers so disgustingly. Things are still going off of for me and I thought today was the 6th and it is the 7th. I called them immediately to make my payment. She would not take off the $31. The $31 hit at noon and I called her at 1:30. It was one and a half hours after the late charge was imposed and she would not take it off again.
This place is so disgusting for their practices and God doesn't like ugly so they should look over their shoulder or up at the sky because he absolutely cannot like what they're doing to people. Especially people who have worked every day in their life, raise one child to now dedicated his life to serve our country. I am disabled, out of work due to being the victim of a sexual assault and there is no compassion or Humanity whatsoever with this company. I'm sitting in my car crying because I don't know how to come up with $215 today. Any other company I've worked with that I was able to tell what happened to me which I was only able to do after months of trauma therapy, have all worked with me because I've been in and out of crisis centers, trauma therapy treatment etc so it's very hard to work when your mind is non-existent and this piece of garbage at this facility doesn't care about anything or anybody.
I have no family. I have nobody and I cannot move my things on my own as I have Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative back disease which has caused me to have five major back surgery so far and three more to come and I'm only telling this personal information because the woman in the office saw how bad I was doing today. I was moving in still no compassion. I refuse to sit on my butt and collect from taxpayers so I can avoid shared driver because it's the only thing I can do with got your traumatic event happening to me, and I pray to God every day for an answer to get my things out of this Public Storage please. I can't even pay my apartment rent since this happened to me and to have to come up with $215 on top of that, I honestly don't know what to do. The most inhumane immoral, disgusting place I've ever worked with.

They called me when they got my rent check and I said I would have my bank send the difference and change the Billpay amount. She said she would tell the district manager it was on the way. They charged me $23.10 late fee and refuse to take it off when the additional $14 arrived 1 day after the rent deadline. I was paying monthly as agreed. Lost my lock key. Kept calling to get the lock removed, so I could either, move or replace lock. We got no response. Found out later, that their phones were in transition for new numbers. They said they called us?? We did get a call from a Public Storage, with a long distance number. The message asked us about a new move in reservation. Which we didn't have??
Later, discovered there was a rent increase, this we weren't aware of. Long story short. A lien was placed, plus late fees. Called facility again, and for explanation (now phones are working and with a new long distance number) was told to call GM for assistance. Then called his supervisor... We got nowhere. She told me to pay a certain amount if we wanted access and avoid auction. Called VA, and that amount was paid. However, the next day, we saw there were more fees? I called to get an explanation... no response. Still waiting. Are they wanting to auction our things off?

One of the worst experiences of my life; doing business with Public Storage. Location: 63rd and Market St in Upper Darby, PA. I have been a loyal customer for 3 years, never once have I paid late. Every year the rent increases. They increase the rent and do not do maintenance on their property, as the facility smells of urine and is physically dirty. This was supposed to be a temporary situation for me but it turned out to be another monthly bill. I go to check on my belongings and my storage unit was infested with rat feces, dead insects and mold on my belongings.
As you can imagine I am so upset I spent thousands of dollars on my furniture and paid thousands of dollars to this company for rent. I spoke with the property manager. She tells me the only thing she can do is move me to a new unit or I can file a claim. When I spoke with the person from the insurance company she informed me the most I would get is $250. I paid way more than that over the 3 years in insurance. Are you kidding me. I decided I would take items that were salvageable and just leave the rest and be done with this company. Why should I have to pay to move infected furniture due to this company’s negligence.
I returned my lock and key and told them to sell the stuff. The manager tells me that I owe for June’s rent. Umm excuse me I did not stay the entire month of June so how can they charge a full month? Then they turn around, put their own lock on the unit and inform me that I would continued to be charged rent until the unit is cleaned out and if I don’t pay them within 60 days they start the lien process. So I had no choice but to hire a moving company to remove the furniture and take it to the dump. Yes the DUMP and it cost me $350 to get the movers.
All my hard earned money gone, all My belongings ruined and thrown out and this place takes zero liability. I’m not sure how this is even legal, their practices totally Unethical. That included wrong dates and expiration times over four facility managers. One manager named Marlon was very well versed. Had a command of what Public Storage policy was all about. However the other three facility managers had conflicting information that cost me money that I was not suppose to be charged for? Marlon gave me the contact number of the district manager (Stephanie) and I called her and left a message twice to avail? She never returned my money or even called me to tell me her take on this shady companies way of deciding when your rent is due?
So here is the RUB... I should never have trusted them to take direct withdrawal from my checking account because they took money in error and never returned it! I arrived at Public Storage approximately 10 minutes from 9 to put a few things in storage for my van. About an hour later I went to leave and I access code would not open the gate. It kept repeating, "Call the office." I called the office. There was no one there. There was a manager's apartment above the office which I kept honking my horn to no avail. I tried going on the internet and find an emergency number and got the runaround. They are irresponsible and I would go as far as saying criminal in their behavior. It is a liability and when I finally did get out hours later only due to the fact that I actually guessed a six-digit emergency code which was unbelievable, I left a message for them before had done that saying that if I was stuck there I would sue them.
The next day I got a call from the manager saying that they want to speak to me as soon as possible and about possible eviction. Basically they're putting their negligence and liability on to me for being there after hours when there is no obvious sign that says you will be locked in if you do not leave at that time. My belief was the gates closed to get in there at 9 since I had outside access. They were rude, unprofessional, and I still have not spoken to them after I called and left a message that if they evict me I will sue them and despicable of a business.
They told me I had a locked-in rate in. When I went there it was Triple the price to move in then what they said, they forced me to get insurance saying that I actually had to. When I spoke to an attorney in California he said, "Absolutely not. They lied to you," and the locks on the units can be pried open and broke with a screwdriver and they force you to buy a lock which you can never use anywhere else because it is a little cylinder lock and you cannot use your own. You must buy one of theirs and it is a type of lock that you would not be able to use on anything else. It is a disgrace. They should be shut down for violations and liabilities and criminal behavior regarding ethics and fraud. I will be speaking to them after the weekend and will update my resolve.
They are absolutely unprofessional, deceiving, and just want you to come there and put your stuff there because they know once people put their stuff there they will most likely not move the stuff out even if they hike your rate every year by 25%. Do not do business with them. And if you have ever been locked in there or had liability issues, consumers we should all get together and file a class action lawsuit and make them pay fines and a large sum so they changed their policies and horrible business ethics and professionalism I've never seen anywhere else. Period.
I will also state the people's names I talk to you in a company after I asked him why you have no emergency working number to resolve these issues because obviously once in awhile this happens and it seems there are many more issues as describe on the internet as far as employees robbing people's belongings, treating them disrespectfully, and talking to them as if they were a little child and these office workers, so-called with no other skills whatsoever other than taking cigarette breaks and giving people keys... Illegally filing a lien so they can sell my property when they know I was 2-months ahead after I filed a complaint with the BBB. Selling off my property when the payment for May 2017 was for July 2017, thus Public Storage stole funds, so they can sell my property to rent my storage unit again. My case deals with: Breach of contract, loss of payments, deny of service due to company loss payment, broke promise to correct account when company realized they misplaced of payment, wrongful filed lien against personal property because company accounting error with they did correct, adding late fees because they failed to correct account due to accounting error, personal property sold by company, continued to send payments but company refused to provide service even after providing that I was 2-months ahead. Filed a complaint with the BBB over several years related loss payments. Corporate accounting admitted that I was 2-months ahead but, yet nothing was done to correct my account. I attempted to move out one day and it took me 1 hour to move 13 boxes due to door problems, no carts around and had to park far away. The doors don't have any way to stay open even for 2 minutes by themselves. I had to make several trips day after day to move out and therefor I had to pay a whole month extra. Strongly recommend that potential storage unit renters NOT use the Webster, TX, Public Storage facility located off of highway 3. I rented a unit for my daughter for 9 months (May 17 - Jan 18). My daughter used the unit when she moved away to complete two internships. She did not remain in the Webster - Houston area while her things were in storage. When I went to vacate the unit I noticed that the door was falling apart and that there was a large gap between the top of the door and the ceiling of the unit (pics attached). I brought the deficiencies to the Public Storage employee's attention and asked to speak with the district manager. The district manager, Ms. Sonja **, refused to speak with me.
I emailed my complaint with pics to the DM, asking for some remuneration given that I paid full price for a dilapidated unit. The DM never replied to my email, but called several weeks later after I called the unit employee multiple times. I rented a small unit at the Public Storage located at 5342 E. Mockingbird Lane in Dallas, TX. The young woman behind the counter told me that insurance was required. This significantly pushed up the rate of the unit. She didn't mention to me that I could have bought my own. I found that out many months later. The price Public Storage was charging for the insurance was far higher than what I could have purchased elsewhere. So I dropped the insurance after I found this out by going into my account and opting out of the coverage.
A few days after I opted out of the coverage I received a letter from Public Storage notifying me of a rate increase up to the amount I was paying WITH the insurance. So they simply decided to push up the rate to keep the extra profit coming in. So I've decided to end the unit and make space in my home for my storage items. This is ridiculous. From the lies they initially told me to get me to opt into their sky high insurance coverage to the sleazy move of suddenly hiking my storage rate when I opted out. This review is for both the national brand of Public Storage and their facility in Holly Springs, NC. We lived in the metro Raleigh area over a year ago and upon moving to Florida, we stored many of our personal belongings in a mom-and-pop storage complex. Everything was great: the rate was great, we could pay our bill online, and the customer service was always great. Then, we were all notified that they were being bought out by Public Storage. Everything has gone downhill since then.
We were given no welcome message, no instructions, no additional info from Public Storage. One month after the unit was taken over by Public Storage, we were visiting family in SC and made the journey back to Holly Springs, NC to get a couple of things out of the unit and pay for that month's rent in person since Public Storage had given us 0 methods to do so remotely. We attempted to make an account online prior to our visit, and we could make an account on their site, but it was not tied to our account number as we later found out. We attempted to make a payment after making an account, and it took our payment and gave me a payment confirmation #.
At the office, they looked in their systems and did not see a payment made on our unit, and we had received a late fee. They asked us to provide proof of payment to Public Storage, and I gave them the confirmation number. They said they wouldn't accept the confirmation number, they wanted a copy of my bank statement. The Public Storage website refunded our payment because /they/ had not yet added my unit to their database, and I received a late fee because of it. I showed them the time stamp on the email along with the confirmation number, but were unrelenting to their error and forced me to pay for the month plus a late fee.
Once we were finally able to pay, we're advised that we have to sign a new lease agreement, and while doing so, there were fellow customers calling in to ask how to pay, to which the staff on duty began informing the other renters that they'd have to /come in/ and sign a new lease agreement before they'd take a payment, and they /would not/ mail the lease agreement. Whew. Good thing I happened to be 600 miles away from home at the time and decided to go in, because we were given absolutely no forewarning about having to go in to sign a new lease agreement, we were given no instructions on how, when, where, or how much. Nothing.
The staff behind the counter told us that they couldn't assign us our own code at the time, so we have /never/, after being with Public Storage for many months, been given our own gate code to access our unit. The staff behind the counter gave us a temporary code to get in that would be disabled at the end of the day. So, if we had the opportunity to access our storage unit in the future, we'd only be able to do so during business hours and after going in to essentially ask permission. Remember the website payment issue I mentioned earlier? That has taken months to rectify between calls to corporate and the local office. The local office usually doesn't answer their phones, and prefers to leave their automated answering service to refer you back to the national hotline. I was lucky to get that fixed - except it never actually was fixed.
I am not tech incompetent. I am a certified computer technician, and I have never had so many issues with a merchant service. Server outages, authentication errors, I honestly don't understand how they can afford to let their site run with so much downtime. I /still/ have issues making payments online. This month, though, is the straw that broke the camel's back. This is the point where I come up with the $600+ I will need to go across multiple states just to get my stuff back. I will happily pay (what is now) 5 months worth of rent with Public Storage to other companies to take the responsibility of watching over my belongings out of the hands of reckless management. When got our unit, it was $75/mo. for a 5x15 unit. 2 or 3 months after Public Storage took over, it went up to $90/mo., and the late fee was increased.
As of the new year, they are raising it again to just under $110/mo. for the same unit, making it the most expensive per square foot in the area. A nearly 50% increase in rent in under one year. That is /absurd/. Difficulty paying online, in addition to the rush of the holidays, new year, starting university, and starting a new job, I unintentionally lapsed on paying December's rent. My bad. I'll pay it with the next paycheck... Except by the end of December, they've *already sent me a piece of certified mail that they want to sell my stuff*. Not even one month overdue, and they will push to sell your belongings for extra profit. No mom-and-pop place will do that. No other storage complex that I've done business with (which I've been using storage units regularly for the past 5 years) has this sort of aggressive policy. Other companies are willing to listen.
Other companies are willing to work with you. Nobody rubs their ability to hold your items at hostage in your face as well as Public Storage. No more. Public Storage has dropped the ball every step of the way, has made the forced experience of being their customer regrettable, and has been entirely careless in the handling of literally every issue I have brought to their attention. We have paid emotionally and financially for their mistakes, and Public Storage - on both the national and local levels have been unapologetic and unsympathetic, save for the canned, insincere response you could expect from this level of carelessness. Avoid at all costs. If they happen to buy out the mom and pop business you store with, vacate immediately. I would not recommend Public Storage's business to anyone under any circumstances.

They do not supposed to increase more than $5.00 to 12.00 by the end of the one year even if it is month to month, they are charging from 30.00 to 50.00 as they please at any given time... this lady "Dianne" customer- supervisor she say that they can increase as they please after me complaining for the increase [but not. They can not]. "I told her that this is not an apartment where you actually live in (in that case It is understandable)"... These are rental space with nothing special nor upgrading to the units. CRAZYYY!!! People need to complain to BBB (703) 276-0100. They are forcing rental INS. which is not mandatory in Florida. Also when they run out of specific special/size that it is when they are going up ASAP, and they just send you a paper, not a phone call, nor certified letter, nor email... That is incorrect and against the law in most USA states.
I'm going to look for a lawyer that may help out with this swindle, since they are doing this to many, many, many people. When I went to their office the "new lady" (constantly changing staff) did not knew me, so I ask her rental info. and when I asked for breakdown of the charges, was different to what they are doing nowadays, once you have your belongings there... This guy that came right after me he said they done the same thing to him and he has 3 spaces and increasing a charge of $50.00 per each, I told him in front of the lady that need to do something because that is not right, he thought that it is nothing that he can do because the company main office/corp office they are doing the run around with his complaint, saying that that it is or else!!!
What they are doing provoking people to take things out so they can go to the high prices because they have a new demand for some particular units at some/any given time, that is misrepresentation (real estate/business) in their dealing with customers, I'm going to get legal aids assistance/info. of what can be done and also BBB... So do something with these big fish fraudulent actions. :( :( :(

When renting space with Public Storage I provided my card number for recurring billing and it was not used. This created a bad problem of a past due balance, late fee and lien fee. They would not help me with this issue and gave me no recourse. They did not register my email address for online payment. They charged $10 for payment by phone. They took $100 more off of my card on the payment by phone than I requested to pay. The customer service agent was joking around while I was asking to be reimbursed and kept asking what my question was. I explained the situation and what I needed refunded. He continued to jokingly ask me what my question was. It was not funny and he said he could not help me with any of the requested moneys to be refunded.

Our experiences with Public Storage have been terrible overall. We need a drive up unit with a larger than typical door. Most storage companies all have standard 8 foot doors so we're left with very few options, one of which is Public Storage. At first they seem great. We rented during a "special" when they were advertising 1/2 the regular rental rate FOR THE LIFE OF THE RENTAL. Wow, right? We were excited and decided to get in there right away. We were told that the cost of the unit was regularly $428 so we contracted at $214 monthly which is a lot for us, but certainly better than paying full price. We signed our contract in May around Labor Day. Our first payment would be taken out (automatically) on June 1st. We went to our unit toward the end of May and found one of those Public Storage "naughty" locks on our unit. We knew that our payment was on an auto pay PLUS it wasn't even due yet, so how could we be late?
We came back later in the day to see what had happened and didn't even get so much as an "I'm sorry" from Kia the property manager. She basically shrugged and said it must have been put on there accidentally. Of course it was, but at least tell us you're sorry it happened. Nope. So everything goes smoothly. Moving forward, our payments go out automatically, we don't find any extra locks on our unit but at the beginning of November we get a little postcard in the mail saying that our rate is increasing from the promised $214 to $259! What? We've only been there 6 months and what happened to my special rate? When we asked Kia if there was anything she could do about the rate increase she told us to call Corporate and gave us a phone number. That phone number was essentially a huge loop that wouldn't allow you to speak to anyone other than your property manager and she'd already told me she wasn't going to do anything about it.
When I finally did get in touch with them (I looked another number up online) they told me that rate increase reductions were handled at the local level and they gave me the number for the district manager Jeanie or something like that. I called and left her a message - no response. My fiancé called and left a message for the Regional Manager Bobby but we got a call from the senior district manager instead. His name was Mike and HE told me that rate increase reductions were handled by Corporate. Hmmmm. Someone wasn't telling me the truth. I decided to try to reach Jeanie one more time after speaking to the assistant manager, but apparently Jeanie didn't want to talk to me because she had the same assistant manager call me back and tell me that I was out of luck.
What I did find out though is that someone new, coming in off the street and wanting to rent my unit would be paying $308. That's significantly lower than the original $428 I was quoted when I got my "1/2 off special price". Is it fair for them to bump the rate up by more than $100 per month just to make the 1/2 off price sound like you're getting a deal? What a crock of crap. Now I'm stuck looking for another storage facility who won't raise my rates every 6 months or flat out lie to me. These people don't care about loyalty at all. They only worship the almighty buck.

After renting a locker from Public Storage and after spending a lot of my money with this company, only to find that its racist employees, such as the District Manager, Byron **, (Ontario, Canada) has also decided that he can take certain liberties with me.
He had the onsite manager, Faried ** and other staff, turn on the alarm whenever they see me enter the property. He also instructed the staff not to sweep the floor or clean up the garbage, at my locker.
There are mice and a lack of heating at the storage facility. Worst for me is the fact that they've now turned the lights off in front of my locker, so the place is always dark. My wife and I rented a storage unit through Public Storage. We went there on July 4, 2017 to put some items in our unit. When we got there we realized that all of items were covered in black mold, and as we further investigated, we realized there was a puddle on the top of one of our totes approximately 6-7 feet high, stacked. Items had drip marks, and a tremendous puddle of water on the floor. We got the manager to come in and look at what we were seeing, and took enough pictures to prove everything. We filed an insurance claim with the company you're required to take insurance out from when you sign the contract. We ended up getting the maximum from our insurance policy, which was only $3,000. We estimated that we lost $10-$12,000 worth of belongings that we'll have to replace, and $3,000 is not enough to replace it all.
The icing on the cake here, is that since we still needed a unit, Public Storage moved us into a smaller unit, and charged us the same price!! Public Storage and the representative they gave us to be the middleman between us and corporate, has been nothing but useless throughout the process. He won't return calls, and doesn't do anything he promises to do. For Public Storage to hold no accountability for their faulty unit, is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. For us to replace all our items lost, is going to cost us well more than the $3,000 we got from the insurance. We don't expect to get everything back, but we do believe that we should be reimbursed a portion of what was lost, as well as an apology for all the hardship this has caused.

Public storage has raised my rent significantly twice within a year. Their customer service is poor, the reps are often rude, and the district manager only protects the employees with no regard for the customer. Their office closes indiscriminately at different hours during the day and customers just have to wait for their return, Also I was quoted a price over the phone initially which they did not honor. I will never use their service again and warn against any prospective customers.

I just went down to the public storage on Center Ave in Denver. I intended to pay my overdue balance and collect a few items for my business. The gentleman that was running the office was engaged with a new customer. I proceeded to retrieve a couple boxes of items and thought I would pay my bill when he was done. Half way through my efforts the employee became very agitated and told me that pulling my car around would be better than going through the office and asked what my unit # was. I could tell it was not worth explaining to him that all the spaces in the loading area were full. For some reason this really started to get him bent out shape.
About an hour later there is a voicemail from this man informing me that if I removed anything, it was trespassing. I have retrieved single items on many occasions whether I was current or not. This has never been an issue with any other employee and I'm sure they would have told me if it was a problem. The other employees have always been friendly and professional. I was also informed I HAD to call him and that my items were going to be auctioned off. Now I have no problem with being informed of rules or even being questioned that I'm in arrears or whatever. What I do have a major problem with is some psychopathic sounding dude completely losing his mind without taking 2 seconds to think about the situation. I was being considerate of him and I was rewarded with a very unnerving amount of hostility and accusation.
I don't care how much someone is delinquent or about what the best access to the building is, you don't leave a voicemail with a customer that is obviously meant to intimidate them where they are scared to be in the same room with you. Threatening and accusing people with the level of hostility this person directed at me is WRONG. PERIOD. I would strongly advise that no one go near that location as this guy was ready to completely lose his mind over a 1 month delinquency. And for anyone who thinks I deserved it - my delinquency was a result of having to make a choice between getting medications that I cannot perform any physical labor without that are not covered by insurance vs. being current at public storage. So if you have any situations like mine where you may have to make a temporary choice about your health vs. their fees - don't get involved with this company.

Maybe it's legal, but it certainly is unethical. I would look elsewhere before doing business with Public Storage.

They get people caught in a Catch-22. Not many can afford to pay a mover every time they raise the rent. Never store anything in these places for more than a year or not at all. It's not meant for long term. They do not reward longevity or referrals. Is there is a class action against this company for gouging customers? Also the corporate office does not return phone calls very much of the time. Thanks. Never store anything in these places for more than a year or not at all. It's not meant for long term. Someone crawled between the back side of the gate the other night and got right in and out with a car faster than I could find my phone to report it, driving a car this time and got out without even using a code!! Ridiculous! I called several times and I am here now and still no lights so I'm leaving a huge note on the door because no one has even bothered to call me back or fix the problem.
What's worse is they are unwilling to credit anyone in this situation. I do not feel safe here at night and I am terrified my unit may get broken into! Public Storage @ 1501 Louis Henna Blvd, Round Rock, TX - When I reserved into this unit back in April I reserved a unit online for I think $65, 10x10. I think the special was move in for $1.00. Boy was that misleading! Then they say you HAVE to have insurance. That is false. My insurance policy only covers 10% for storage unit contents being $1k so I opted for their insurance at $11/month. I ended up being forced to buy some crazy small lock of theirs at $20 or so and by the time I was done I ended up paying nearly $65 to move in.
Very misleading and false advertising on their part. So, I'm in for what 2 months and get an increase letter for an increase to $80/month starting August 1 bringing my new total to $91. I canceled the insurance today 7/30/17 and still the monthly amount is $80 which is still a $15 increase from the move in monthly amount in April. Total rip off company. Shady practices. When I inquired on the sudden increase just a few months in the excuse was I am on a month to month lease. That is nuts.
I've rented storage units in the past years ago I admit and never did they do an increase like these people. Now I have to go to the huge hassle of searching for another unit in Round Rock, scheduling movers again which costs $$$ and find the time to do all of this while on and off the road. I'm certain based on prior reviews that they will increase again in a few months. I want out before that happens. Once moved into a storage area a customer is supposed to feel relieved of that task not bothered by having to move out a short time later due to price spikes. I highly do not recommend and will definitely do research before signing a contract with another company.

I was relocating from CA to MA for work and was looking for affordable temporary storage. I wish I had seen all of the terrible reviews of Public Storage and taken my business elsewhere but that isn't the case. I booked a unit through their website because it offered a web discount. The deal was $1 for the 1st month and $189 monthly thereafter for a 10x15 unit in Peabody, MA. 2 weeks prior to my move, I received a phone call from an employee at the Peabody location confirming my unit. I specifically told her that I'd be there by 4:30pm May 14th for my unit. She put the notes in the computer and we hung up. I drove a moving truck for 4 days across the U.S.
Approximately noon on May 14th my phone rang. It was an employee of Public Storage saying that he just came into work and noticed that I was coming in for a 10x15 unit, but unfortunately they did not have any units of that size available. Considering it was a Sunday, office hours at storage locations are scarce. Plus, I can't exactly do research while driving a moving truck that is also towing my car. So I ask what can be done. He tells me that I can go to another location in Salem because they have a 10x20 unit for a better price than Peabody. The monthly rent was $240 but the 1st month would only be 50% off instead of the $1 deal we were supposed to have. Since I was still 4 hours away from the storage location, I had no choice because all other storage companies close around 2pm on Sundays.
Being that I had work at 8am the next morning and needed to get to my work clothes from deep within the moving truck, I was stuck with Public Storage. So I have a unit (not on the ground level like the 1st one was supposed to be) and it is much bigger than I need it to be. The employee at the store can't help me resolve this issue so he gives me his manager's number. I call, leave a detailed message, and never hear back. As I'm slowly moving into my unit I notice that people are actually living in their unit WITH THEIR DOG!!! Not trying to cause a scene, I just let it go. So we call the manager again, and still no call back. I was told by the employee that the girl who called me initially to confirm my unit, must've forgot to link the available unit to my account (which I had already entered my payment info for). So now I'm paying for your employee's mistake? And you can't return my calls to resolve this issue?
Finally the manager calls my boyfriend back because I was just a ticking bomb ready to explode. How is this company still in business? Oh wait, I know. THEY LIE. They don't rent you an available unit, they just reserve the price but then supposedly it's "first come, first serve." Well, that kind of contradicts your employee's explanation that the girl forgot to link the available unit to my account. Back to the manager calling my boyfriend: So the manager says that the prices should drop in a month and that he'd call back to help adjust to the dropped price. Guess what? A month came and went and NO PHONECALL. So I called the store again. They suggested I call the customer service center. The lady who helped me was very sweet and informative. She sent an email to the manager and to his manager about my issue. Guess what? I received a call! And guess what else? He was mad at me!
He wanted to know why I called customer service. Also, he said that he can't help me with the price of the unit because it's a national company and he doesn't have that kind of authority. But instead of connecting me to someone who can help, he just said nothing can be done about it. Look, I'm not the type to argue a point if I know I'm wrong. But if your company's employee made an error, you can't push that problem on me. For a company to treat their paying customers this way is just not the way to do business. I will make sure to never use Public Storage ever again, I will make sure that this terrible experience is shared with my network of employees (we are 60,000 strong), and of course with all of you reading this now. Save yourself the hassle if you're relocating from far away. Go with a company that will treat you right and fair.

The local manager has been great. That doesn't mean he's given us more than we deserve/paid for; it means he's been considerate, positive, focused on providing solutions or at least explanations, and is generally polite. He is the exception. Making changes to a policy was horrendous. That is, turn in one unit and take another. Reserve online, get confirmations, find out in 5 different stages from a local staff person - and I don't mean nicely - that almost NONE of it applies. We did everything right and on their own website. It's not even that the terms may be different for an existing customer (which I don't abide, but OK, your business), it's the caustic, incomplete, derogatory, tired way it's addressed and communicated. Nope, you're the customer, you're enemy. Like it or lump it.
In making said move to another unit, we had to call customer service (1-800-567-0759) because the new unit would not attach to our existing online account. The rep stated, "You need to create an account," to which I replied, "I already have an account, but when I--" her response to which was to interrupt me and say, "Can I talk?" Instructions continued, for me to again "Create an Account" and use a different username. Despite her (once more) caustic, curt instructions and admonitions to my attempts to explain what I already had, I figured out on my own that now, on signing in, I must use the username and username ONLY. Despite the fact their website says "Enter username/email address" I, in fact, cannot use my email address because--in their system--it will not attach to my current unit. So, in fact, I needed to know that I may only now sign in with my username.
There it is, my unit and ability to give them more money. But I had to figure that glitch out on my own and in the face of an incredibly rude "customer service" representative. My expectations are pretty slim: have a conversation. Explain exactly what I'm seeing and what I want to do. Take polite instructions and make it work together. I was permitted no such courtesy and this is a repeating pattern with all but TWO staff people at Public Storage with whom I have directly interacted. The second left the organization about a week after I met him.
My items are in storage. I have to have storage at the moment. I am loathe to move it AGAIN if I don't have to and, honestly, have no proof that any other storage provider would exceed my expectations of Public Storage. However, with the scales already tipping away from any positive lingering experience, this will be my only option soon. They are simply horrid. The exception to the rule are, well, the exceptions to the rule, who appear to prosper and provide a positive service experience based solely on their own value system and training, and not in ANY way due to a corporate culture of service or support at Public Storage.

We have had a Public Storage unit for 3 years. A 10 x 20 unit that housed our entire home belongings. For the most part we have not had any issue except for them raising their rates annually and the "secured gate" being broken every few months! What started off as $120 has skyrocketed to $200 a month! We have just moved out of the public storage unit into our first home. I was in shock, disbelief and disgusted when we started pulling our things out of the unit. Almost everything that was in the unit was either peed on, pooped on or chewed on by rats. When I brought this to the manager's (Bruce) attention he said that they don't do any kind of extermination or pest control for rodents, cockroaches, mice, or any bug.
If we would have known this they would not have had our business or the business of our friends! I believe that they have been making pure profit off of our unit and everybody else's units since they don't pay for anything except for the mortgage of the land! We have had to spend thousands of dollars to replace the items that were damaged and some things that were passed down cannot be replaced that had to be tossed out.
If I could I would give them zero Stars. They need to understand that rats carry infection! I've also made multiple attempts to reach their district manager with no response! First, I called their customer service number to pay over the telephone to save a little time. After spending a while listening to prompts from a machine I learned that they charge an additional 10.00 fee to pay over the telephone with a credit card. Second, I attempted to pay online with their website where I am already registered with an account but this did not work either because the computer saved user name and password would not log onto their site.
Finally, I attempted to reset the password through the website at least 7-10 times and it would not send the code to my email to reset. Well tomorrow is the 7th, the late charge now applies and my final option is to go to the location to pay the bill in person. I would have done this today if I had not spent so much time trying to pay this one bill today. I guess they want to force you to use their autopay system so that their almost monthly increases can be taken automatically. I am going to solve this by just getting my things out of there. I called the company to complain and see what they could do to lower the bill and they told me that this is what they do every 6 months to 1 year. They have a "pricing committee" that decides how the prices should be increased and they do so accordingly. Therefore you are NEVER locked in to your rate. BEWARE.

I would be VERY careful about this place and I would not move your stuff here thinking you are going to get the current rate they are offering for any length of time. What a joke. They offered moving me to a smaller space and I said if I wanted that size space I would have taken it from the beginning.

Public Storage is a huge ripoff. Rate increase of over $30 in less than 6 months and now we will be paying almost $300 for a unit smaller than the average bedroom. They lure you in with $1 first month when we ended up paying over $100 for the first month. False advertising like this should really be illegal. They don't tell you about overpriced mandatory "insurance" you have to purchase. How I wish I had picked a different storage facility or even PODS. Unless you have money to burn go any place other than Public Ripoff err Storage.

I have had a 10x10 storage unit for past 26 months. My rate started at $169 and now 26 months later it's $344. Last month I went online to pay my storage and it was already paid. Found out they turn on my auto pay so I turned it off again. This month it's back on and my bill was paid. This company is hog. Remember pigs get fatter and hogs get slaughtered. Cleaning out my unit this month.

Rented a unit on Union Hills rd in Phoenix in Dec 2016, my monthly rent went up by $41 in one shot by June. Their excuse was that operating costs went up. I asked to speak with a manager and was advised by Roxanne at customer service that it would do me no good. I will avoid this company in the future and would advise others to do the same.

I have been renting from Public Storage off and on for almost 7 years and 3 different states. My complaint is with the one in Renton, WA. I have been renting a unit for almost 2 years and in that time they have increased my rent twice... each time by 26.00. The unit is not one their best. It rains here in Washington almost continuously during 10 months of the year. Our unit does not have a gutter, so there is always a waterfall over our door when it rains. This waterfall prevents us from entering our unit unless we want to get soaked and have all our belongings soaked.
This price hike is going to lose them our business. As soon as I can remove my stuff out of the unit I will be done with them and we will spreading the word to everyone about how bad this rental place is. I have an accounting business and I do a lot of business with other business owners in the King and Pierce County area. So word will spread quickly. My account is under my daughter's name and she is removing her stuff from the unit also.

Please be aware of the untold contract agreement such as prorated charges. I rented my unit from May 15 to May 31 and I went to the office to close my account June 1. Now they are telling me that I owe $70 for prorated charges. I pay for a month up front. No wonder why they have a 1 star rating. I wish I would have read the reviews before signing a contract. Hope these reviews help other people in the future. Stay away from public storage.

Please be mindful of your stored property. According to my understanding there are cases in which people are actually/literally staying in the storage unit!!! Last year on the "emergency" stairs I got into a half naked street/homeless woman. I've never taken the stairs again and I've always waited for the elevator since then. This year it seems one moved into one of the bins... also a bin in the row. I walk to my spot, started smelling after sounding like something is inside eating chips which makes you wonder if some rats have a nest there or if a pet is actually stored there!!! After a short time I had to go out and it took me two hours to clear my airways of that stench. I am terrified to tell the employees there. They have a style to turn the matter against you. Moreover, even in the contract they claim they are not responsible for any safety aspects. The police sends you to the manager.

In Vero Beach Florida on US1, the assistant showed me a small unit. There were giant ants crawling down from a trap-looking ceiling. And like others who have complained, the cost went from a 50% discount to added administrative fees, insurance fees, taxes for each of the fees and taxes on the cost of the unit. $20 quickly turned into $65. But the next suspicious catch was that she asked for my driver's license and contact information Before telling me about all costs and had me sign it. When I said I wouldn't take the unit after hearing all the fees, she refused to remove my information or destroy my paper that I signed. Seemed shady. I wouldn't trust them. She seemed at a loss for words when I said I was going to compare prices with other storage units. She was dazed after that. Thank God I didn't take their insect infested storage unit.

Public Storage is a scam. Their advertised prices do not apply towards the storage unit once you reserve it. You will get an email days before your scheduled rental starts informing you of a price change. Also, be aware of the units and water damage. Some of their units leak water. This is a problem that has not gotten fixed.

Paid $167 for a storage unit. My storage needs changed within three days. Requested a partial refund for unused storage time - wasn't expecting admin fee, insurance, or taxes back. They refuse to refund any of it - except the lock. The unit won't even be used. Very money hungry company and not customer service friendly. Be cautious when dealing with them. Based on my experience with them, I'd consider another storage company.

Went to rent a climate-controlled unit in St. Louis, MO based on the "15% off per month" prominently displayed on their web page. When I got to the location, right off the bat they tell me, "Based on our current demand we're not currently doing that promotion." Fine. Then there is the mandatory $20 lock purchase "to ensure our stuff is safe", not mentioned anywhere on their website. Then there is the mandatory insurance, also not mentioned anywhere on their site. I guess the unit itself was the last straw - for a "climate-controlled" unit, it looked exactly like one of the outdoor units with a building shed built over it.
So much false-advertising and bait-and-switch - no way would I ever give them any of my money. Instead we found EZ Storage. Way, way nicer climate-controlled units, no mandatory lock or insurance fees, they even have a large truck you can rent for $10 and best of all... less expensive than the base rate at Public Storage. That's before getting 50% off the first two months as part of a promotion they're having. It was like a night-and-day comparison.

I have used this facility in Rochester, NY for almost 2 years and each year they go up on the rent but the service is lacking. The problem I have is when I began renting at this location they offered a secured facility where in order to get inside you needed to put in a code to open the gate. Here is the problem, the gate has not worked since about a month after I signed my contract. At first, I thought it was temporary and since I hardly ever needed to go there I never noticed. Lately, I have had cause to drive that way and began noticing that the gate is left wide open all night. Not only is this a problem for my belongings, it is also a safety issue, anyone can walk or drive in there and break open the locks and take my belongings, not to mention someone can hide in those units because they are not locked either.
So, I called the corporate office who told me to contact the local office. I did this and was basically told they rent spaces and the security of the gate had nothing to do with my rental cost. They added that they had gotten some estimates, after 2 years, but didn't know how soon the gate would be fixed. I was given the number of the district manager to call, I left him messages and he never took the time to call and respond to my grievances. As a company which provides a service he at least owed me the courtesy of a return call. To date, I still have not heard back from him.
It's easy to say if you are not happy with them just leave but leaving means having to pay additional money for a truck, finding someone to help you move and my time. Just fix the gate, you owe that to your customers and while you are at it, secure the doors leading into the units and put stoppers on the doors so we don't have to find something to hold the door while moving things in or out of the unit.

We rented a unit about 6 months ago. Only one light was working in the unit. Property manager was notified. Fast forward 6 months, our rent goes up $30/month AND now all lights in the unit are out. We had to get on a ladder and change out a set of bulbs ourselves to see. The other fixture was broken. Property manager AND Corporate Customer Service was notified. Customer service rep basically said too bad about rent and he would contact property manager about light issue. So we are paying more for our unit plus doing some maintenance.
This company does not care about their customers. I will be sure to tell everyone I know about the horrible experience I had with this company. They absolutely do not care. Your stuff is in their facility and they "have you". We only have a few more months until our new home is finished and we will no longer need the unit. I don't think I could go through finding another unit and move my entire household again that is why I am sucking it up. I wanted everyone else to know what a horrible company this is and if there are other options for you, use them. I think anything would be better than this.

Public storage in Auburn Washington is also horrible. First my family lost stuff due to a fire and water damage and only given 1 day to remove our stuff and also move what we could salvage to another unit and then that other unit I just found out was infested by rodents. My stuff was safe (no food) and not a problem with infestation the whole 5 years I had it in the previous unit, but the outdoor ones are infested and was told by other people down the same aisle as me that they were moving out and lost their stuff for same reason when I was there today.
Storage didn't let us know they knew about the problem to ask us to come check our stuff or anything. Rats had all winter to nest in there. They also will not help with removal of my items or help me by getting us a dumpster so we can toss our stuff. I am disabled and have no help or real physical ability to safely take care of my items now. They could at least help with removing my items since I've payed them to pretty much let all of my stuff go to hell anyway. Storing your stuff at Public Storage is about as good as just leaving your stuff at the side of the road.
You may as well just take all your stuff to the public dump and get it over with sooner and with paying less money. I actually care less about compensation for my stuff than I do with needing the help to safely remove and dispose of my items now that they are trashed anyway. BTW, even if your policy says it will cover fire, water damage, they will not cover it if caused by another resident (IE: someone smoking while on property) and Public Storage will not take any responsibility if it's not electrical damage by faulty wires. They also will not consider case by case basis to let you use their dumpsters in cases where it is totally their fault the infestations are not controlled.

Watch out for up-charge gimmick! I received an email that said my total move-in charge would be $73. When I go to move in, I am told that I have to buy their lock for $19.99 (mandatory). I am also told that I have to buy their mandatory insurance for $15 per month. I am also told that I must pay a "one time" Administrative Fee of $24... then, to top it all off, I ask if I have to worry about rodents chewing up my stuff, and the manager acts like that was the dumbest question she ever heard. "It's Florida and your stuff is stored in an outdoor metal shed... what do you think?"
So, the following day, I call corporate and ask if I can be moved to a climate controlled unit that will be rodent free (my stuff is worth $4,000). His response was that I could, but I would not get credit for the $107 that I paid for the first unit, and I would owe them an additional $170 for a smaller unit. I think this company is the worst rip-off outfit I have ever dealt with. Think about it before you give them your hard-earned money!

A staff member stormed passed us with an attitude as we attempt to ask her about using the bathroom. I said, “Hello,” she never respond and slammed the bathroom door in my mother's face. Secondly, the storage area lacks ventilation, lighting, air conditioning in the summer and heat in the winter and they have a rodent problem. Thirdly, my mother complains that she dreads going in to pay her bill because they always have an attitude so now, she pays her bill online.

Before I got the storage I called and ask if there were any other charges beside the $1 and $24.00 Administration fee for the first month rent. Was told no. Was not told about the prorate of $76.00 after that. What I did know is that I would pay $190.00 after the first month March 20th-April 19 and on the 19th I would pay the $190.00 which would take to May 19th. When went in the storage talk to Nichol, She handed me the papers. I proceeded to read them and Nichol said that is what she was going to tell me about. What was in the papers and she never said anything about the prorate charge for April 20th-30th. Then you pay again on May 1. Please be very careful this company is very deceitful. Ask plenty of question before renting.

Rented unit from 2300 Purdue Ave in W Los Angeles for three years and recently had a water leak, mold and rat dropping issue. The manager ** did not help with situation and was very defensive leading me to believe they have other leaks. She did not offer anything like boxes, new unit and kept saying it was not their problem. After waiting three hours to get another unit because computers were down and she did not want to deal with the issue and helped other people while I just stood and waited. Asked to speak with her supervisor and she called him leaving a message. He never responded back. I called and left several messages for the district manager for a week and still waiting.
I moved my stuff into a dry unit for a few days while a went through my items and there was a break-in on the first floor. The tenant asked ** if there were other units broken into and what about the security cameras and she would not answer the question getting real defensive. We looked at other units and they looked like they were broken into because they had new locks on them like the tenant's unit would. Then on top of $10,000 in water damage to my belongings that they will not address and won't return phone calls, they charged me $130.00 for the unit I had to move into for three days because of the water leak in my old unit. The building is in disrepair and they will not respond and return phone calls.
