Our move from California to North Carolina with Pan Transit Van Lines LLC and Brooklyn Moving Inc was the worst experience of our lives. From false promises to delays, extortion, and extensive damage to our belongings, these companies caused us unimaginable stress and hardship. Initial Booking and Broken Promises. We initially contacted Pan Transit Vanlines LLC, speaking with John (**), who assured us they were a full-service moving company providing door-to-door service. The move was quoted at $2,002.01, and we paid a $826 deposit.

However, as the moving date approached, John disappeared. When we called, we were told he no longer worked there, and the company disclaimed any responsibility for the promises he had made. Two days before the move, we were informed our job had been handed over to Brooklyn Moving Inc (888-889-6872, support@brooklynmovinginc.com), without our knowledge or consent. No one explained that Pan Transit was just a broker, not a moving company.

Pick-Up Day. Brooklyn Moving Inc arrived late in the evening on the scheduled pick-up day and presented us with a new contract, increasing the cost to $2,599. Despite our frustration, we paid $1,297 via Zelle, and a representative named Ez reassured us our belongings would arrive in one week. Delivery Delays and Neglect. After driving to North Carolina, we called Brooklyn Moving Inc about our delivery, only to learn that they hadn’t even started looking for a truck. Alfredo (888-889-6872) told us they would begin now that we had confirmed we were ready to receive our items—contrary to their original promise.

For a month and a half, we lived with no clothes, furniture, kitchen items, or personal care essentials, relying only on what we could fit in our car. My boyfriend and I had to sleep on a blow-up mattress, which worsened our existing health issues. My boyfriend was recovering from spinal surgery, and I was recovering from a car accident, both of us already dealing with back problems. This situation caused us long-term physical issues, forcing me to see a chiropractor. We called daily, only to be told they had 30 days to deliver and that trucks were hard to find for our area. Jordan, a supposed dispatch supervisor, admitted that Pan Transit Vanlines was just a broker and that our load was “not worth it” for them to send a truck. This critical information was never disclosed during booking.

Delivery Day Nightmare. After more than a month of escalating frustration, Brooklyn Moving finally sent a truck. The driver, who worked for yet another company, arrived and revealed that Brooklyn Moving hadn’t paid him for previous deliveries. As a result, he refused to release our belongings until they paid him. This led to an all-day argument, lasting until 9 PM. The day before, Alfredo and I had agreed on a final price of $1,387, but during the standoff, Brooklyn Moving demanded an additional $400 to cover what they owed the driver. I refused, told them I would call the police, and reported the situation. When the police arrived, three officers documented the incident. As soon as Brooklyn Moving realized a police report was being filed, they backed down and reverted to the agreed price. Finally, the driver’s boss agreed to pay the fees Brooklyn Moving owed him. The driver then hired two men to unload the truck.

Damaged and Destroyed Belongings. The state of our belongings was devastating:

    - Boxes were soaked and torn, with many appearing deliberately ripped apart.
    - Books were water-damaged and shredded.
    - Our dresser was broken, mattress torn, and lamp shattered.
    - All our glass food containers, plates, and outdoor furniture were destroyed.

    - Nearly every item was damaged, showing clear negligence.

We have since filed a claim with CSI https://csipros.org, but the emotional, financial, and physical toll this move took on us is immeasurable. Replacing everything that was lost or damaged has cost us thousands of dollars, on top of the original fees we paid for this disastrous move. Final Thoughts. Pan Transit Vanlines and Brooklyn Moving Inc are deceptive, unprofessional, and predatory. Pan Transit Vanlines misrepresented themselves as a moving company, only to outsource the job to Brooklyn Moving Inc, whose actions were careless and dishonest. If you value your belongings, health, and peace of mind, stay far away from Pan Transit Vanlines LLC and Brooklyn Moving Inc. This experience was a nightmare we wouldn’t wish on anyone. Job No: **.

      Reviewed Oct. 21, 2024

Pan Transit Movers. Do not fall for the lies. They’ll tell you to sign a contract to move! Here’s my story. I moved in June 2023. I called for information from this company end of May 2023. I got “Charles” as my salesman. And, boy, is he a good salesman. He said he would explain each step and really he sounded honest and helpful on the phone. He said he would be the point of contact from start to finish. I had never hired a moving van to help me move before. Honestly, I’ve worked as a auditor for the Air Force so I really thought I was prepared to see through the “bull crap” and not get caught in a loophole. I was naïve. Charles did explain the fees were charged based on amount of items I have. They give you a list to go through and estimate how many boxes and how many different pieces of furniture you have. Then they’ll base the cost on that estimate.

Frankly I didn’t know how many 3’x3’x boxes I’d have cause I wasn’t finished boxing. Also, it's hard to remember on the phone as you are doing the inventory every item that doesn’t fit in a box that I have as I hadn’t thoroughly gone through everything. Charles said not to worry. You can’t remember everything. We’ll base your contract on the inventory. What he DOESN’T say is that when they come to pick up your goods anything over the inventory list is extra. He implies the contact listed price is what you pay. I was worried about having more than I listed and that I would need more space than the inventory listed. Charles indicated “not to worry, I’ll send you a semi and my best team of guys. I know them all personally. They are my best guys. I guarantee “full use of the semi trailer.” What I later learned was yes I could have full use of the semi trailer but I would pay extra for all the space.

Also, they don’t come with a semi trailer. The movers come with a 26ft moving van. If you have so more stuff they will have to make 2 trips to storage and each trip is more money. Plus, these movers did not know “Charles” and what he was talking about. I was under pressure from Charles to sign the contract because rates would go up after 1 June and he was leaving town for a week. He told me he got me the the lowest prices at $4 a cubic foot but it would go up 1 June. We explained we would be moving without a house to go to as of yet. The normal contract is 30 days free storage. I was able to get 60 days free put on the contract. He told me the goods would be shipped immediately to the town we were moving to, put in storage, and when I needed the items, call him 3 days before and he would have it delivered.

I was sent the contract. I tried to go through it thoroughly. I had more questions. Supposedly Charles would have been “out of town” like he said so I expected someone else at the end of the phone. Amazingly Charles answered the phone, and knew it was me before I even addressed him. I later learned they have some way of determining who is calling by the phone number and you are forwarded a specific person based on the step you are on in the process. I ended up signing the contract and sent the deposit.

After I signed the contract, I came across a few more questions. From now on when I would call, I got “Rich”. He did answer my questions but I was never allowed to talk to Charles again. I learned then another lie by Charles. He would not be working me through the whole process. There will be a variety of people.

My next set of calls was from “Scott.” He was the inventory/operations person. He called about a week later. I had a better idea of what I was moving and frankly, since Charles said I had full use of the semi I didn’t worry about what I was taking with or what I could not take. After going through a more thorough inventory, Scott determined I needed more cubic feet. So, my costs increased. Of course, I was shocked. Charles didn’t explain the cost could go up. So I tried to call him. No answer on Charles phone. No answer on Rich’s phone. Phone directly transferred to their Customer Service. Oh yes, someone will call me back.

After 2 days of calling, my calls were no longer being answered by their customer service. I needed to move. Pan Transit has you over a barrel. They know the situation you are facing. Pay up or try to find another company on a moment’s notice in the middle of summer, the busiest time of the year. I paid the additional money. Scott then gave me the name of the moving team that would be picking up my items and they would call.

I got a call from the movers and scheduled pick up. When the movers came, they showed in a 26ft van. They said I had more cubic feet than estimated and it would be another $1500. Although, I never got a straight answer how they determined this. It is hard to say “stop” in the middle of a move. The house is sold and you have to get out. We were not capable of doing this ourselves. They said that the goods would go in storage in the next big city where I was from and then moved when we called with new location. No problem. It would be sent right away. But yet another lie by Charles. We were also told if it wouldn’t all fit in the truck, they would have to make 2 trips and it would cost more. I told them, if it didn’t all fit then we will make determination right then and there what would not go. Surprisingly it all fit.

I will admit, the movers (from Adams Relocations Services) were very good. They padded all furniture and were careful not to scratch or break item. They put stickers on each item with an inventory. Because I had heard horror stories about people that did not do inventories and items go lost, I had my own excel inventory of every item. The person doing the inventory took the time to make sure our inventories matched. I added the item number from the movers inventory to my own inventory.

We moved to our new location. We found a place to live and I contacted Adams 6 weeks before I needed my goods. The time was within my 60 days storage. Adams personnel told me they didn’t know if they would be able to get my items to me by my requested date because they didn’t have a full truck load going to the west coast to my location. If my items stayed in storage longer than the 60 days because they weren’t ready to bring them, I would have to pay extra on storage. I argued this was not my fault. I learned I would not get my items without the extra fee. The manager gave a “deal” at an extra $400.

My items were on their way in a semi truck and expected delivery 5 days after I requested. The semi broke down on the way and took an extra 5 days. They semi driver really went out of his way to get our items to us. He ever rented another semi tractor. The driver skillfully worked his way into our neighborhood to drop off our items so we would not be charged extra. Also to note about he movers, we had only a few small broken items that were probably caused by me packing too tight.

My original contract was for $12050. In the end, I paid an additional $4250 and my items arrived 10 days late. Lesson learned: Salesman lie. Be sure you know how much space your items will take up. The charge is by actual cubic feet used, not by weight and not by your estimate. Be aware you will not get your delivery date as asked for and expect to pay more in storage. Make your own inventory of items. Number every item and make a list. When the company does an inventory at pick up and drop off, make sure your inventory matches their inventory. You have no control once they drive away.

We were quoted $3,000 for our move and $150 a month for storage. Then we were told it would be $6,000. The packers came and loaded the Budget truck. After all the household was on the truck, we were told it would be $10,000 and $1,500 for storage after two months. We felt cheated and betrayed. The truck loader told us it was because we had 1,900 cubic feet of stuff, however, we found out that the size truck they used only could hold 1,600 cubic feet, and the truck was not full.

We would not recommend this company to anyone and felt totally taken advantage of being elderly.

DO NOT FALL FOR THE GAME THIS COMPANY PLAYS! I am currently trying to get all my money back and will take them to court if they do not respond. I hired Pan Transit from my home in LA to move me to NYC. When the day came to move another company shows up, Cheetah/White Gold. They charge me $6,000+ more than I agreed upon with Pan Transit after a very detailed walk through via video with Pan Transit and assurance that the price quoted would remain unless something out of the video was added. Nothing was added and I was in a corner, forced to be out of LA in a few days. No time to argue. The men wrapped furniture in blankets and our mattress into a mattress bag I purchased for the move. Everything was kept stored by Cheetah for a month.

When the movers arrived all blankets had been removed from the furniture and was now only shrink wrapped. ALL my furniture was damaged, scratched and in a few cases broken. I have many many photos detailing the damage. I filed a claim. They offered me $200 to compensate for some very expensive pieces (a turn of the century church pew, hand made stain glass beside lamps, a torchiere lamp amongst other pieces).

I sent them pictures of the damage and listed my own inventory as proof that pieces were missing as their own foreman never checked his own inventory. The foreman took his own photos as he did not want to be accused for what he said was the worst handled job he’s ever seen. DO NOT have happen to you what happened to me. Let’s hope the courts look upon me fairly and I get a little justice. The cost of repairs, not to mention the time it is taking me to find people who can restore and/or replace broken and missing items goes far beyond what this comany has already overcharged me.

This company is a scam. Any positive review has to be fake. They double the cost on moving day despite having less items than already inventoried. Don’t make the same mistake we did. They keep your deposit after not agreeing to the additional cost.

The original coordination for my move from California to Texas was satisfactory. The ongoing problems began a month ago; I am still missing numerous items/boxes/artwork and no one seems to care. Last contact was with Johnny who only offered up a claim form. I thought he should know that Brooklyn Moving Inc is a poor choice of so-called "preferred vetted vendors" but he really didn't care. 2Stars and that's only because my timeframe was met; too bad for me that I am missing thousands of dollars of belongings.

The one thing I had read about Pan Transit was that they didn’t stick with their quote and that was my experience exactly. We were moving non fragile totes and boxes from AZ to North Dakota and I was quoted a price for 300 cubic feet. I was told a man would call from the company and update our order close to the date. When he called, I asked him explicitly (after giving him specific measurements of the boxes and totes)! If it would cost me more if I added 5 more boxes. He said no, we had plenty of room for several more too. Then when the company came to take it, it was $300 more than I was quoted. I would have never added those boxes had I not been assured that it wouldn’t cost additionally.
