The last few years I paid over $20 per month for AOL. It has more than doubled since I first started. I wanted to cancel for years on more than one occasion.

I have been a member for years. I am almost 60 and didn't realize I am one of the last on the planet paying for my AOL. I couldn't figure how to contact them since they make that invisible, however when I stopped paying them (I switched account info) I suddenly got addresses and a phone number. I called them in October 2015 to close or to convert to free and to complain about an overdue bill of non-payment.

Then I call in November to hear that the previous person never switched me to free and I would have to pay $47.98 for 2 months. From what I have read on this website they never want to let go of their revenue stream at my expense. I am basically getting the same as everyone else so why do I have to pay $200 a year?! How can I get them and keep them out of my pocket. I thought changing my account would be enough. Perplexed and Frustrated.

I called AOL & they said I am not a paying customer & I could get all my emails restored if I start paying a monthly fee for technical service! Apparently they are deleting customers' emails so you sign up for their tech device plan because that is the only way you can have your missing emails that were mysteriously deleted restored!

Originally in 1999 or so I signed up with AOL as my Internet provider. Along with my seven screen names (which is a free service) and subscribed to pay an additional $10 (roughly) per month for dial backup service. That subscription price has since increased to about $24.99 monthly. Dial backup is no longer necessary as a service and have called AOL on at least 2 occasions to cancel this subscription. They continue to bill me and call me constant. My request to cancel has gone ignored. All I am interested in keeping are my seven screen names.

I have been experiencing problems with AOL's crappy email service for almost 2 weeks now and I am not the only one suffering from this. Many other customers on various website down sites have been reporting problems with AOL email. What is troubling is that as usual, AOL offers ZERO assistance unless you're a paying customer (which I am not) and what little assistance you're able to get through their FAQ pages is unreliable or just as nonexistent. Checking with their Twitter and Facebook pages also show that they have made NO acknowledgment of customer complaints or what they are going to do to fix the problem. This only goes to prove that AOL cares only about one thing, your money! If I didn't have so many accounts associated with the AOL address (which is years worth to transfer), I'd drop them in a heartbeat.

So I create an email account on AOL to use for college and some other things in December of 2011. Then 3 years later in December 2014 when I went to log in I got an error message saying my password was incorrect. So I went to the reset password page that requires you to type what you see in the picture. But when I tried to proceed to the next page the next button did nothing. I tried to reset my password multiple times over the course of around 10 months with the same result. Then by some chance on 8/20/15 when I tried again it worked and let me reset my password. But when I finally logged in it opened up like it was a brand new email account. The only thing that was not missing was my account information. But all my old inbox or sorted emails, contacts, and even my saved/archived emails were gone.

As many other victims...I had an AOL service that was set up with one of the CD promotions which did originally have a monthly charge. When I received an offer to reduce the monthly fee, I agreed to that, which ultimately ended up setting up 2 monthly charges. It has been probably a 15 year time frame and different scenarios, with the most recent being that I am still being charged for a cancelled "free account" that was cancelled over a year ago, and the charge is over $38 a month, which certainly adds up. I would hate to think what I have paid them over the last decade or so. I am paying for Time Warner Cable...have been for years. So I do not need -- and actually do not have AOL anymore -- but still get charged each month. They are impossible to cancel, seems like.

On 6/5/15 at about 12:00 noon I called AOL to report a problem with my emails. I was told that I could only receive help/technical support if I enrolled in the Premier Membership Package, the AOL Advantage Plan. I begrudgingly enrolled in the AOL Advantage Plan after being told by the AOL Rep three times that I could only receive Technical Support once I enrolled in the "Premier/Upgraded" Service.

I was told by the AOL Representative that the AOL Advantage Plan would only be a $4.99 per month fee and in addition, I would get 1 free month of service. I was told that I would not be charged until 7/31/15. I agreed to enroll in the plan. Minutes later I received an email confirmation from AOL Account Management welcoming to the AOL Advantage Plan. This email was received at 12:16 PM EST. I quickly noticed that the $4.99 monthly membership fee quoted minutes earlier were being listed as $4.99 per month plus applicable "fees and taxes" in the Welcome Email. Please note that these "fees and taxes" were not mentioned by the AOL Rep who enrolled me and are not detailed in regards to the specific financial amount of the "fees and taxes" in the Order Detail information provided by AOL. I still have no idea at this writing what the total of these fees and taxes are.

Later on that day (6/5/15) I went in to check my Bank Account Statement and immediately noticed a hold/authorization of $329.00 placed on my Bank Account by AOL at 12:14 PM EST (only minutes after speaking with the AOL Representative), approximately two minutes prior to receiving the "Welcome AOL Advantage Plan" email from AOL Account Management. Looked again this morning and the $329.00 authorization by AOL is now an actual charge against my available funds in my checking account. I immediately called my Bank who confirmed that the charge against my account was made by AOL. I called AOL's Billing Department shortly thereafter. No one at AOL would admit that the authorization/charge had been placed even after I initiated a conference call with AOL's Billing Department and a Representative from my Bank who confirmed the charge and the descriptive information provided by AOL.

I never authorized or was told by anyone at AOL that they would be trying to charge my account $329.00 for the AOL Advantage Plan Membership. It seems almost incredulous that no one at AOL can pinpoint who put the "wheels in motion" for the authorization or why this was done. Three hundred and twenty-nine dollars may not seem like a huge amount for some. For me it can make all the difference in the world if I am "between" anticipated commissions (I work very hard for the commissions that I earn and often have to wait weeks before I am paid by clients).

So far I have been on the phone for almost five hours with AOL Billing, one call lasting 69 minutes. AOL has only offered to escalate the issue and recommend that I file a form with their Legal Department which I would have to mail! Needless to say, this is a perfect example of a "Goliath" company taking advantage of the "Little Guy," i.e., consumer. I have been a member of AOL since 2000 and I am shocked that they would treat their members this way. Hopefully this debacle will be resolved sooner than later.

I went to the account I don't often use to get an email needed to reset a password on another account. I was having a hard time logging in to my account, tried a few times. When I got in all my emails deleted and there was new email from AOL welcoming me? I tried to find a way to resolve this issues online and tried AOL chat option, which I would have to pay to receive this service. I called AOL help line and was told the free email accounts didn't offer this kind of support, the kind to get my saved emails? I was shocked, I look at AOL stories, advertisements, and sometimes go to the ad links and shop, which I believe makes them money?

I stated the point above to the service rep and asked to speak to a supervisor, rep put me on hold. He returned to the call and offered to give me a free month of a service so I could get my emails back, that I would have to cancel before the end of 30 days? I don't have time for that. As I said I have two AOL accounts, one I use daily and look at and use the advertisements links to shop. I guess this fact does not matter to their Free Email service customers. I will be closing both of my accounts with AOL and find a provider who can back up their services with tech and email support. This meant that the multitude of companies I deal with that have my netscape.net address have sent mail bounced back to them. They cannot get in touch with me and I can't have lost passwords reset.

I got the runaround from AOL's, obviously offshore, call center when I tried to get the address back. Over the evening, I spent hours on hold and was forced to dial into their service department multiple times (after being sent on false errands by their reps and having their foreign call centers twice drop my call). I also had a representative claim to take my number for a supervisor callback, which I never received, and then found my calls to the center blocked on that phone. My subsequent calls yielded a "network busy" message from that phone number, but patched right through with another cellphone! Way back during the dial-up era, we had an AOL account that we used primarily for a business we had. The economy tanked, as everyone knows and 8-10 years ago, I called and canceled the account. Or so I thought. I admit that I didn't monitor the bank account activity as closely as I should have. Charges would only appear with a merchant number and looked like other, valid charges. I never really questioned it until the bank statement came today with a charge of $38.99 for AOL Service. Say what?? Wait until hubby gets home. 'Why do we still have AOL?' 'We don't, what are you talking about?' 1 hour and 40 some minutes later I have an assurance from AOL that the account has been closed but I'm responsible for any charges incurred up to tomorrow. WHAT? When was the last time I accessed the account??? Oh, it's too far back but it's been a while according to the last person we talked to.

I have spent my entire adult life either in sales or customer service and have NEVER dealt with such blatant thievery hiding behind incompetence. I understand it's my fault for not scrutinizing every single bank statement that passed across my desk. Working 60 to 80 hours a week while raising a family makes it difficult to track every last penny going out. I'm tired. I'm now disabled and fighting on other fronts. I don't need this when I am still trying to figure out where I am going to get the money to pay for my doctors' appointments, much less my meds.

AOL depended on the fact that it's a relatively small amount that shows up on a regular basis and looks legit. Just like some of the hacker scams, cruise right under the radar and don't get greedy. It's amazing how much money you can steal that way and the amazing thing? It's considered petty theft so no law enforcement authorities want to bother investigating. Please, if you're reading this, learn from my mistakes.

I opened an account 7 months ago to get my home computer, which was very old, to work on AOL dial up. I did the free trial run. I canceled the account 1 week after opening it, because I figured out how to get my broadband to work with the old computer. A few months ago I began getting calls from AOL asking about my account from AOL. I told them it was supposed to be canceled, I have not used the account. I do not know what the last 4 digits of the credit card was used, so, they refused to cancel it again. They began calling every couple of days saying the same thing, until I finally said to take me off your list to call, I am tired of it. It is very easy to check and see if the account was ever used, but, they are saying they can't do this. Any hacker can do it. I did not even know the email address on the account. I have since found it out through spending hours on the phone with AOL.

I got a bill in the mail stating that I owe $103.60, for an account that was canceled and forgotten until the calls. The people at AOL know this email address was not used and refuse to take the charge off. How are they still in business charging people after they opted out of the free trial, and then harassing them. I have heart problems and this is going to cause me to have a heart attack. If I have to go to court, I will be filing for damages from the stress this company has caused me. The worst thing I have ever done was open a free account with AOL, and then canceled it a week later. Between the phone calls, and getting a bill over $100 in my mail, I don't know how much more I can take.

AOL is saying that they have no records of their company calling me. I have records, through my phone company. I am tired of being billed and harassed for a free trial run, that was canceled. My heart can't take much more, and I am at my wit's end. I am to the point of getting a hold an attorney and filing for damages! I will be going to every forum on the internet and let people know what this company has done to me, and how I have had to calm my heart rate every time I call to have it fixed, because this company just wants to charge people no matter what. They have made it very hard to cancel an account with them, even after the account was canceled, they refuse to cancel it and keep billing. I can't take it anymore.

After 30 years it is so sad to see AOL become such a worthless company that does nothing but waste its user's time when you call with a problem. AOL now will not send my emails. Last week and two weeks ago AOL would not let a user forward an email with attachments. When contacted, AOL advised to download and save the attachment(s), then write a new e-mail and then reattach the attachments. Yesterday I called AOL because it would not let me send any e-mails, the technician who said he was in "Romania" said he was going to get a supervisor to fix the problem, after holding 15 minutes, the technician came back on and said the supervisor had taken another call and would call me back. That was only 24 hours ago. IF you actually want to send and receive emails, PLEASE get an actual Internet service provider (not the charade that is AOL!).

I have subscribed to free AOL for many years after having been a paid member for years. A couple weeks ago, while attempting to sign on to AOL, I received a message saying there was a block on my account and a number to call. When I called and asked why my account had been blocked, a man asked me if I had ever sent a bulk mailing. I told him I had not and had never sent bulk mailings in all the time I was a member. He tried to sell me tech support for, I think, $19.95 a month, and I declined. He tried repeatedly to get a credit card number from me. I declined. Finally, he gave me a new password and the conversation ended. The password did not work.

I called again and another man repeated the same process. Again I declined paid tech support and refused to give AOL a credit card number. Finally, I was given a new password and the conversation ended. This password, too, did not work. I called again and this time a woman told me I had been blocked because I owed twenty-some dollars (no mention of the alleged bulk mailing and the first mention of owing AOL money). I assured her that I did not owe AOL any money and had had a free account for years. She said she would reduce the bill if I would give her a credit card number and said I had already signed up for paid tech support during a previous call. I told her I had not signed up for paid tech support during a previous call, would not give her a credit card number, and wanted my password reset. She said she would not give me a password unless I paid for tech support, I declined.

Clearly, this was a scam to get my credit card number and was tantamount to extortion. I warn all free AOL members and those thinking about becoming free AOL members to beware. Do not fall for the claim that you can cancel AOL tech support once you give them your credit card number. In fact, the reason I switched from paid AOL to free AOL years ago was because AOL deducted my monthly payment multiple times over a period of several days. I wouldn't be half surprised to find out that AOL has people roaming neighborhoods selling old people aluminum siding that never gets installed.

After reading a few reviews, I have come to the conclusion that Aol is a predator company. Aol has ceased being relevant since the late 1990's. Since the advent of the world wide web on the internet, why anyone would use Aol is a question that has many answers. None of which make any sense. Aol is just a place to land when you go online. Anyplace online can do this. This is called your homepage whether it is Yahoo, Facebook, Google, or a million other places I have no time to list. Since Aol is charging for a free service, why are people still paying for it? The answer is that they are used to it and/or "like" it. This is one way that people in general waste money and get taken advantage of. So, instead of writing hate mail, they should do 3 things to eliminate this problem.

    1. Use a different web browser, such as Firefox, Chrome, etc etc. 2. Close out your bank account or credit card so the thieves at Aol cannot suck out anymore of your money. Apply for a new bank account and credit card and DO NOT give it to the thieves at Aol. 3 Establish a new e-mail address at G-mail, Yahoo, etc etc.

If the steps above are too difficult for you, find someone who can help you over these small barriers. I'm sure you must have a friend or relative that is somewhat computer savvy....or you can continue to get ripped off by Aol and by the way, I have a bridge in Brooklyn that I would like to sell you.

I have been an AOL member since 1996. For most of those years, I was a paying member even though I realized I could receive their service for free. Recently, however, needing to cut back, I decided to suspend payment to AOL because practically everyone else said I could continue to use their service and not pay. My wife and I had all our email accounts with AOL for some time. I also had one that was politically charged since 9/11 named ** and as you can imagine, I used it in both political and religious rooms to chat. Yes, I often challenged some of the more conservative members of those rooms trying to get them to realize that there are other ways to think about things. Among the issues, I supported were the right of a woman to choose, marriage equality and other such issues.

In doing so, I was often treated with terrible name calling from other members. I was more than once called a baby killer, satan's child and once was called "the **** scum found on the seats of gas station toilets. I was never one to use horrendous name calling, but I have been known to use the word "bytch" (yes a deliberate misspelling of another word) when talking to some of the worst name callers. Today ALL OF OUR NAMES WERE CANCELLED, not just those I used for chat. That is right, not just **, but even my wife's email address and my other names which had NEVER been used in chat. Our friends, relatives and even business contacts now have no way to contact us and we to contact them. This is an outrageous action taken by AOL. I can perhaps understand AOL canceling the name that they found offensive, if I had offended someone in a chat room, but all of our names?

My wife and I must not scurry around and write to everyone telling them of new names (at Gmail) and will perhaps lose some important mail in the process. I called AOL and explained this. They told me to write to a particular office at their organization. I did and received the following response: "We received your request for account reinstatement. Per our review, we have determined that it will remain closed. 'As stated in our Terms of Service, the master account holder is responsible for ALL activity that takes place on an account. You can review our Terms of Service in detail here.'"

AOL has gone completely bonkers in this. To connect their tired old chat room policy with email is extremely inane and harmful to me and my wife. I wanted all to know of this severe injustice. Thank you for reading this rather lengthy account of my dealings with AOL.

I've used "free" AOL email services for many, many years. I have several "free" email addresses under my original account for many years as this is a service they have always provided. I have never paid (that I know of) for AOL email services and have never received an invoice - bill or otherwise saying that I owe them any money. EVER!

I call AOL today to see why for months now the formatting on my emails is all jumbled up when it is received by the recipient. AOL, Tierra, says in order to fix this problem - I would have to sign up for AOL tech support at $4.99 a month. I tell her I've been a customer for years and I'm not paying for anything that seems to be an AOL problem. She said that is the only way they can fix it and because I have been such a loyal customer - she is going to give me the first month free and then as soon as they fix the problem (which was suppose to be tonight) I can cancel. So, I say, "Okay let me make sure I have this right... You are going to get a computer tech on the phone and fix this now and after that I can cancel my service and can use all of my other email accounts with no penalties." She said yes.

So I give her my VISA card number and all the billing information with the assurance that as soon as this is fixed - I can call in and cancel, like tonight. As I am listening to her spew the deceit from her mouth about Terms of Agreement, etc… I just happen to open my bank account to see if anything had been charged to my account as she even said the $4.99 tech charge would not be withdrawn until February 29, 2014. LO AND BEHOLD, there is a $47.96 charge (pending) on my account from AOL. I interrupt her spiel and ask her why I was just charged $47.97 and she said “I don't know”. I said, “Well, please check your records and make sure you didn't press the wrong button.” She assured me she didn't have a clue unless I had a forwarding balance on something from years back. I advised her that I never paid for my AOL account. Why would I? Emails are free. She said, “Well I don't see any outstanding dues or anything that would have you owing us a dime, so I don't know what to tell you.” I hung up abruptly. Oh it gets worse.

I am not sure what this SCAM is that AOL is trying to pull off here but NOW I CAN'T OPEN ANY OF MY EMAILS THAT I HAVE HAD FOR YEARS. So why close my accounts if there wasn't anything wrong on my end. I will be calling them to find out what kind of shyster practice they are trying pull but I wanted to let the public know as soon as possible of their under handed methods. I had to cancel my credit card and now trying to remember who to email about my change of email address not to speak of all the other emails I won't be able to access. BEWARE OF AOL. Very sleazy operation. Shame on you!

I have been an AOL customer for over 15 years. I live in France but established my account with AOL.com, not aol.fr. In July 2013, AOL blocked my ability to send emails from my account, because AOL had found abnormal activity on the account. I think a hacker somehow accessed my account and was using it to send SPAM messages. I contacted AOL assistance in France and got a form email telling me how to change my password. However, AOL's system for changing a password didn't work for me, possibly because I set up my account before security questions were required. After getting the runaround from AOL's online help service in France, including around 20 examples of the same form email advising me to change my password, I called AOL help in the UK (because there is no telephone help line for AOL in France) and finally was told to write (by snail mail) to AOL's head office in France with proof of my identity and other information.

The person I spoke with said that AOL would then contact me to help me change my password and would un-block the "send" function. After a wait of around 10 days (it should have taken one day for the letter to reach AOL's Paris office), the send function began to work again, but no one contacted me to help me change the password. On January 14, 2014, AOL blocked my access to my account completely. This time, after contacting AOL online assistance in France and the UK and receiving the same form email another 20 times and trying to change my password online without success, I wrote another letter (by snail mail) with an ID and other info and sent it to AOL's Paris office. Ten days later, my account was unblocked but once again no one contacted me about changing the password. Then, after 3 days, the account was blocked again, for the same reason (abnormal activity) and is still blocked.

AOL's help services in the UK and France keep sending the same form email about changing the password, which their system still will not allow me to do, as I have explained to them many times. I have been using AOL for work (I am a freelance writer), reservations for flights and all other contacts for many years. Both last summer and since January 14 I have lost work because clients could not reach me. I will have problems with an upcoming trip abroad because I used my AOL address so that various contacts could contact me during that trip. AOL has cost me a lot of money in lost work plus a LOT of wasted time, and I am still blocked from using my account. I would like to know if others have tried to sue AOL for the horrible quality of its so-called customer service. Nothing else works; maybe a lawsuit would.

I was having problems opening links to my emails using AOL version 9.7 so today I called to request 9.6 be reinstalled. I waited 34 minutes before being helped. Later today I had problems opening my Facebook page and called again having to wait for another 30+minutes.

I finally talked to a CSR by the name of Kristen. I explained my problem in a very frustrated way and she felt the need to lecture me instead of solving the problem. I asked to be transferred to her supervisor and she spent several minutes stonewalling me and put me on hold for another several minutes. I spoke to Karl who is suppose to be her supervisor who did nothing to solve the problem. I was transferred back to Kristen after another several minutes of being on hold who again lectured me on my criticism of AOL customer service. I did not have the time and patience to deal with her so I hung up with problem unresolved. I have been an AOL customer since 1997.

My formerly free AOL membership was being billed to my card at the rate of $9.99 monthly. Upon calling the company, I was told that because I failed to respond to their opt-out message, I was BY DEFAULT "upgraded" to a fee-based membership.

As I spoke to the AOL rep about the issue, he continuously claimed to be "checking" on the problem, and while supposedly waiting to get that info, he peppered me with sales pitches. He even tried to explain why I should *retain* the fee-based account. Finally, he said he could reverse charges for the last three months *only*. And of course, there was "no supervisor available" to further assist me.

Essentially I was opening an email account, which cost money - that is how it was back then. I was traveling around a lot and used the dial-up account to access emails. I was charged an amount equaling around 5.99 per month. As time passed by, I didn’t need dial-up and therefore never used it; little did I know, I was paying for that service, not the email account, which I thought my payments were for, and having the ability to have more than one account. It is only today I have been informed that I have been paying for a dial-up account that I stopped using around 10 years ago.

As time passed by, the price increased considerably. And when I tried to contact AOL via the AOL help menu, I never got a reply. I tried this on numerous occasions, even to try and find a number was near on impossible! Cutting a long story short, after finally getting hold of AOL, I was told that I had requested the dial-up and have been paying for it ever since (over 10 years) and they are not obliged to refund money. On my bill it says broadband payment of 31.99, and I have been frustrated for all this time.

I finally wrote a letter telling them I do not have broadband and why was I being charged. They categorically told me I didn’t have an account, which brings me back to “why was I being charged”, and why didn’t they ever get back to me with my questions and queries? When I asked them for information of the last time I used the dial-up, they said they couldn’t tell me... I know that they would monitor every usage possible to collate statistics, so this just shows the lack of customer care. To offer 163 pounds refund, which is less than 8% of what was actually taken from me, is insulting to say the least.

Being an AOL customer for over 14 years, my concerns were that most of the news that I tried to open required listening to some bogus advertisement before viewing what I originally wanted to know. My question was why is this so. I searched and tried all of the AOL site methods to contact AOL to no avail. Finally, I just started calling the phone numbers listed until finally reaching a live person. After almost two hours of being transferred and disconnected I finally reached a live body, resulting in a contact with someone that was out of country and somewhat conversant in English. As with most conversations with any large company these days, it was first stated that this conversation will be recorded for whatever reason they deem fit, I recorded also. My original concerns aside, AOL is, in my opinion, non-contactable and non-responsive to inquiries from customers, especially long time customers. Yes, I'm looking for another provider. Yes, they are cheap, but in my opinion, their service is the same.

Several years ago, I started noticing a charge from AOL on my checking account statement. When it started it was from "AOL/TWC". I did not have an AOL account so I did some research into AOL/TWC (about the time that Time Warner bought AOL) only to find that I was not alone. I found that hundreds of people were reporting this problem. I went to my Credit Union and asked them to deny any charges from AOL/TWC, to which they complied. Soon, however, the charges started again. I closed the account and opened a new one thinking that would be the end of it. I was wrong. The charges started again on the new account so I went back to CU, filled out the proper paperwork to deny the charges and again it stopped, but only for a while.

Taking out my frustration on the CU, I went into their office demanding action. It was discovered that the billing was not going through my debit card but through my checking account number. Further investigation revealed that the AOL account I was being billed for was not even in my name but in the name of somebody that I have never heard of. Again, through the actions of the CU, the billing stopped for a couple of months but started yet again. Back to the CU office I went today. With a CU officer we got AOL on the speaker phone. The first AOL rep we spoke to claimed that they had no record of any of my checking accounts being billed, that I did not exist in their data banks and tried to snuff me off to their consumer complaints department at some address in VA. This time I hit the roof and demanded to speak to somebody higher up.

This "higher up", who like the first rep barely spoke English, gave me almost the exact same run around. He could not find that I or my checking account existed in their records. After some more heated discussion with threats from me to press charges and hit them with a class action suit, he told me that he would cancel the billing and send me some paperwork to fill out with my CU to try for a refund. I don't know how they propose to cancel an account that, according to them, does not exist, but I will wait for the paperwork and go from there. I really would like to get this company for myself and the many others they have stolen from. I will be contacting the DA's office to try to press charges and would surely join any class action suit that is pending against them.

I have been taken advantage by AOL. For several years I have been paying monthly for AOL PC Protection Plan at $14.95, Perfect Speed at $6.99, System Mechanics at $4.99 and Computercheck at 4.99 via my automatic bank debit. Yet on September 2, 2011, when I needed my computer needed repair, I got the run-around from department to department and multiple agents within the same department. I was literally transferred on the phone for three (3) hours trying to get help. I was finally advised that I would have to pay $129.99 to the AOL Computer Tech Guru service. I seemed to have been held hostage by AOL, so I paid the exorbitant fee even though, as according to my AOL Protection Plan revealed the following:

“Coverage: This Plan provides ($750.00) for the repair or replacement of your product to its standard operating condition if the product fails to perform its intended functions due to a breakdown.”

About a month later, on October 2, 2011, I began to have recurring problems that were quite similar to the ones AOL tech guru had repaired a month earlier. When I contacted AOL I was told that I would have to pay again for the tech guru. I contacted multiple departments about my plan. I could not get one person to listen. They wanted to transfer me back to departments that I had already been to. Even when I contacted the service department regarding my plan the rep wanted to transfer me back to tech support. This was endless anguish!

Unfortunately, all of the other AOL plans products that I was subscribing to (System Mechanics at $4.99, Perfect Speed at 6.99 and Computercheckup at $4.99) have not performed well as expected because there should have been better protection and reliable service. I am disappointed because after the initial tech guru, I do not believe that my PC was cleaned and restored with protection. For that reason, my PC resumed with the same problems for which the AOL tech guru wanted to recharge me again.

Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I have been a satisfied customer of AOL for over a decade and this is the first time I have encountered a problem of this magnitude. I look forward to your reply and a resolution to my problem.

To expedite this matter you may contact me at the above email or address or by phone at home **.

To resolve the problem, I would appreciate a refund for the last seven (7) months at $14.95 for my PC Protection Plan (total $104.65) since, according to your billing rep ** your records do not go back beyond 7 months. Otherwise, I would request 12 months of full monthly refund of this plan but I have no way of confirming my exact start date of this subscription, although I think I have been under this plan since 2007. In addition, I request the following: a refund of four (4) months for System Mechanics at $4.99/month (total $19.96); refund of 12 months at $4.99 for Computercheckup (total $59.88); and refund of 12 months at $6.99 for Perfect Speed (total $83. 88). Therefore, I am requesting $268.17 in total.

After 8 days I called AOL and told them to cancel my contract as the service was very bad. They said I was over my cooling off period and I could not cancel. The cooling off period was 10 days. I argued and finally they said they would cancel the contract. This all happened 3 weeks before Christmas 2011. On January 4 this year they went into my current account and took $230. I called AOL and was put through to their office in India. They said I will not be getting my money back as it was over the cooling off period. I had a heated argument with them. I thought I was paying about $30.00 a month for protection, but instead, I've been paying AOL for service that I'm not even getting. When I first got my computer, AOL came with my computer. I decided I did not want to continue with them and chose another company for my Internet. All this time AOL has continued to bill me for services. I have tried all morning to get this straightened out. My money is being collected by Chase Bank, but they say they have no account for me. I want my money back! This is ridiculous. For years, AOL has been getting money from me and I don't even use them.

When I called TechGuru, they offered me a complete overhaul package for $129.99, which I refused. I then told them I wanted the $19.99 assistance that AOL recommended. Thus, the problem began. Yes, the e-mail problem was fixed, but I was billed $129.99 and I have been trying since the end of September to get credit.

My account was debited on the first of each month for $32.90 for over 16 months.

When I contacted the AOL customer service center, they had my address, my screen name and my home number. They also confirmed that my account had been closed since 2005. But they could not confirm my AOL account number. I was told they do not have that information in the customer service center. I was then given an address to write to where I can send my bank statements and my letter of complaint. I was told to send the bank statement as proof of the debit from my account. When I asked for a telephone number to the address that I had been given, I was told they do not have one. I am very reluctant to send my bank account info to an address that I cannot confirm by having a contact phone number. Please help.

Neither Yahoo nor Google, both free, have this restriction. Access to websites I use regularly is rarely possible. I have to switch to Firefox to achieve that. Similar problems exist with, for example, clicking for page 2 of a multi-page article. I know that AOL is not anxious to lose subscribers because of the need to keep numbers up for advertisers. But this client has just about had it and is ready to seek more friendly internet programs, unless AOL changes its policies with reference to non-paying, bring-your-own-server customers. My "contacts" and I continue to be bombarded by someone sending this email and AOL doing nothing about it. I was not aware this person had been allowed access to my email and contacts and AOL would do nothing about my complaint.

This AOL customer phoned AOL to check with the Billing Department about an important billing issue and was told there would be a wait of an half-hour. This customer waited almost 2 hours on a landline phone. When the music stopped playing, the customer could hear the consultant talking in the background, but the person never spoke to the customer. Finally, after several fruitless attempts by the customer to be heard by the consultant, another hour passed before the person answering the phone in the billing department hung up the phone without speaking to the customer.

It was frustrating to hear workers socialize in the background, yet never attempt to speak with the customer who was patiently waiting on the phone for service. After waiting on the land line the first hour, forty minutes were also passed on the customer's cell phone, before it was answered by an AOL consultant by the name of "Bo", who took this complaint at approximately 1:20 pm est on 3/21/11.

AOL and "would-be" customers should be made aware of the extremely poor service they are offering customers.

AOL had triple billings in my account for several years. Being a disabled veteran, I am short-sighted of many things. AOL send me $2,500 check but my request was for $4,300. I never sign to $2,500 check sent me nor cashed it. I wrote several times for AOL to adjust the amount, and I have been waiting three years as of now. What can I do?

I have destroyed credit rating due to money stolen from my credit card accounts, and I spent money trying to repair the debts and causing hardship on my life and my children's life. All of this affected my disabilities and as an American disabled veteran, this stress was unforgivable!

I asked to cancel this account and AOL will not cancel this account. I don't care if its free. I do not want to be associated with AOL. It's creepy that they won't let a person cancel their membership. I have called. I have written a letter. I would like for *** to be completely erased, dissolved and removed.

I was told yesterday that AOL has been free since 2001 and they have been taking $24.95 monthly in automatic debit from my account for the past 10 years.

I want to take steps to recover that money since it is shameful what they did.

I have been paying $14.95 to AOL for over 10 years. After AOL started free e-mail service, I switched to it. They started charging me $9.99/month in addition to the $14.95/month charge. I later switched over to Time Warner (Broadband) of which includes AOL in its services.

AOL has since been double billing me for years. I have called repeatedly in the past trying to understand my billing. They finally stopped the $9.99/month billing, but continued to charge me the $14.95/month billing.

What does it take to end services once and for all? I haven't used AOL services in a long time, and the last time I called, I talked to a customer service representative name Gabrille who couldn't understand simple English regardless of how many times I stated my information. Do they not know how to use quality customer service techniques to help us with billing issues? I have four children in college. Do I really need to state the economic damage this has caused me and the countless numbers of other customers that has been scammed by them? What a ripoff.
