I had renters insurance through Homebody, and after our apartment complex displaced us due to emergency repairs—Homebody did everything in their power not to help. They actively fought against covering our displacement. I talked with our claims examiner—Janet H., who promptly shut us and our landlord down. Janet also notified me they weren’t covering someone else renting in the same building as us. Why? Apparently, they deemed that because the corroded pipes didn’t burst yet, so they couldn’t cover us…so what they meant was, when the pipes did burst and flooded our home, they would have paid out even more money to cover the loss of our belongings? I only needed 508$ to cover a week at a hotel, they couldn’t be moved for that little.

I surely don’t believe they would have helped even if the pipes did burst. Not only this, the wait time on their phone line is atrocious (the workers were nice, thankfully), but our claims adjuster was not helpful. I cancelled my renter’s insurance through Homebody, and you should too, or at least just stay away—find someone else.

I had taken homebody renters insurance when I moved to a new building. Soon as I noticed that Geico my auto insurance company was offering better rates and I took renters insurance from them. It's very diffcult to cancel with homebody. The only way to cancel is by calling and the customer service person Conner was very rude. While it is a rule in New York that if you get a new policy for the same risk older policy is supposed to provide you reimbursement - Homebody refused to honor that. Stay away from Homebody if you can.

Renter’s insurance was required for my apartment, and Homebody was just the insurance they offered right there on the spot. It was all offered during the leasing process when I filled out my lease, and it was super easy. I just signed up straight through there and that was that. Homebody is good, as long as it met the minimum that I needed for renting.

This insurance policy I have only covered the owner not the renter. My home was wiped out by hurricane Helene and Milton. I've tried to cancel this policy several times. They will send a cancellation confirmation and then turn right around and change your account again. I cancelled in October of 2024, it is May 2025. They are a scam and if you don't live somewhere requiring you to pay insurance for the owners you don't want this insurance. If you do have to find someone more honest. That won't steal your money and refuse to respond with an reimbursement and actually cancel the service you never needed.

I got my Homebody renter's insurance through my apartment. The signup process was a little confusing because there seemed to be a miscommunication between what I actually paid for and what the apartment said. My portal said I didn’t have insurance, but when I logged into Homebody, it said I did. I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to pay through the apartment or Homebody, though it seems like the payment went through one of them. This was my first time using Homebody, though I’ve used other insurers before.

Homebody was offered on my rental properties’ website. It was the easiest thing to do because it was already on there and I didn’t have to go through anyone else. After I tapped a button to get a quote, it asked a bunch of questions, took all my information, and then gave me my options.

I had a situation where I accidentally put the wrong price for how much I needed on my insurance. I put $25,000 but needed $30,000, and it was really easy to contact the reps. I looked it up and immediately got a number. They fixed it immediately.

Homebody is convenient, cheap and easy. It’s good to have for my rental property because it's expensive if water damage or fire comes along.

My son took up a renter’s insurance policy with Homebody, formerly Resident Insure, in March 2017 when he was a student at University of Arizona. As his father, I put it on my card. Little did I know that there was no termination of this insurance - they just keep charging you until you formally notify them that the lease is terminated. In my case, I did not notice this until 7 years later in reviewing my recurring charges. In Arizona, the law requires insurance companies to provide a prorated refund for any unused portion of prepaid premiums when a policy is canceled for any reason. But Homebody doesn't care. When approached, Homebody credited me for only 2 quarters. Please beware that renter's policies have NO FIXED TERM, and Homebody will happily charge you forever!

I moved into a new apartment complex and they kind of had a partnership with Homebody so whenever I was signing the lease, they were the default renter's payer. I have a roommate and the first time, there was no clear instruction of signing my roommate as well to the lease. Later on, the administration from the building was reaching out and saying we have to have both. It was an easy process later when I had to call and someone really helped me out -- creating a new contract with my roommate being there. That was a very like 10 out of 10 experience. They were super friendly, approachable, and it was easy to explain.

But then, I had an accident with fire in the kitchen. I got calls and they gave me like a reference status from the administration's insurance and Homebody. They explained the next steps and they were easy to understand and they referred me to another company called Markel American Insurance. The only thing is approaching my own claim afterwards. I got the reference number but it would have been easier if I could see what the status of the situation is like. Other than that, Homebody is easily accessible. You can change your insurance if you feel like at some point you need more or you need less. It's all automated and they have a very good phone call service.

Signing up with Homebody was pretty easy. It was on the website which was cool. It was very detailed and there were not really much questions that they ask. It was very simple and has auto-fill. You just need to confirm or edit everything you need to. But I didn't like that sometimes, when you sign up and you clear the app, it just locks you out and you're going to sign in through your portal. But it gets me in there anyway. I would give them zero stars if I could. My daughter used them for her college housing for 6 months from fall 2021 through early 2022. She was told they would cancel when she moved out. We continued to be charged, tried to cancel numerous times by calling and emailing them. I even sent an email to the address where billing came from, requesting reimbursement for premium they were charging that was not authorized. I finally spoke to someone live last week, they told me they were cancelling both premiums going forward but could not refund anything back because the email was sent to a non-monitored box.

They do not state this on their emails, and as a matter of fact, offer no other email address to send information. It is criminal that they are a provider for student renter insurance, taking advantage of students. They over-billed us over $500. Maybe that is how they make a profit, taking advantage of innocent students. Absolutely horrible, definitely avoid if you can!

Rental insurance is required. The apartments I lived in changed insurance companies midway through my rental. The first company continued to double bill my account for about 4 months after the new company took over. They did reimburse me the full amount that was debited from my account. When I moved out, Homebody was the insurance company. I did not notify Homebody of my move and was thinking the property managers would notify them that the tenant, me, had moved. Turns out, they don't. I noticed the auto debits on my account and reached out to Homebody to notify them I had moved. They needed me to provide them the official rent termination docs so they could reimburse me. They didn't accept the management signed doc I sent that had the term date on it.

It has been 3 plus months and my paperwork was buried somewhere. I reached out to the property management company, 3-4 calls and was able to get what I needed. The kicker is Homebody will only reimburse two months instead of the 4 owed. This is all a waste of my time but I just wanted to share the petty policy they have to make a few extra bucks. Beware, make sure you personally notify them you are moving since the property management company and insurance company do not coordinate, other than to let you know, you have to have insurance and Homebody is the company you have to use.

I would give this company a huge ZERO stars. I live in Texas. I moved out of my apartment on 4/10/2024. You can't cancel this policy online, so I had to wait until I had time to call and cancel. I called on 4/16/2024 to cancel the policy and coverage effective that day. Instead, the representative refused to cancel the coverage immediately as requested and refused to provide a refund of the remaining policy premium, and instead insisted on making the policy cancellation effective on 4/30/2024, forcing me to continue coverage through 4/30/2024 on a dwelling I don't live in anymore. This is AGAINST STATE LAW.

In Texas under 28 TAC Section 5.9971(b), a consumer has the right to cancel a policy at any time and get a refund of the unused premium. Despite the law, Homebody refused to cancel immediately and provide my refund. They didn't allow me to speak to a manager even when I called twice. They are doing a horrible disservice to customers and to agents who have to sit on the phone and break the law. I would never, ever, ever recommend this company and I will be filing a complaint with the state of Texas Consumer Protection Division.

I don't even want to give them one star, but I had to so I could leave a review and warn everyone how AWFUL Homebody is. Unfortunately, my apartment complex partners with them to process renters insurance so I'm forced to continue dealing with their shady ways of business. They offered me a renters insurance policy and had all of the information needed to submit the policy. Instead, they put my policy on hold but didn't actually tell me it was on hold or why it was on hold. I only found out I was 'uninsured' when I saw a $25 non-compliance fee assessed to my account. Then they told me they were unable to reverse the charge since I didn't provide proof of insurance - when they were the ones who literally provided my insurance policy and told me I was good to go. I thought I would be done with them by cancelling my policy, but since they process all insurance for my complex, I have to keep dealing with them.

I obtained insurance through State Farm immediately after cancelling to avoid getting another bogus $25 charge and uploaded the policy by the due date. I got an email several days later stating that a $25 charge was assessed AGAIN and only stated that I failed to provide proof of insurance. I called to try to figure out why and was hung up on three separate times. On the fourth call, I was told it was not accepted due to the wrong address being on the policy. Instead of reaching out to me to get it corrected before assessing the $25, they just charged me without providing any explanation. I made the necessary corrections and submitted for a third time.

I understand not being able to accept due to the wrong address or other incorrect details, but they literally wait until it's too late to fix it so they charge as many non-compliance fees as they can, then never actually give a reason. Like they can send the emails stating I'm getting charged, but they can't send an email prior to that to ask if I can make corrections before the fee is charged?? How is that okay? THEN - I looked on my account today and there were two - TWO - $25 charges for not having insurance. It's like they go out of their way to charge their customers and are extremely shady about all of it.

I contacted them and said I would not be paying either of those fees. Then they told me that they were unable to reverse the charges because their system wouldn't allow it. I have several email confirmations that I uploaded everything on time, but I don't have any kind of correspondence detailing why the fees were being assessed, just that they would be charging the non-compliance fee. They've literally robbed me of almost $100 at this point and refuse to do anything about it. I asked to speak to their customer service manager and they responded with the same corporate response that they can't do anything 'because of their system'.

I have loved living at my current apartment for the last two years, but after all of the dishonesty I've experienced dealing with them, it makes me want to leave. Any apartment complexes that are looking for a third-party to process their renters insurance - DON'T USE THIS COMPANY. I'm pretty sure they're only able to stay in business because they price-gouge, lie, and steal from their customers. Any chance they can get, they'll charge you a fee and then claim it can't be reversed. Then when you call to correct it, you'll be hung up on multiple times, put on hold, transferred to someone who isn't able to help, and then they'll come at you with attitude like you're the problem. I have never felt so taken advantage of by a company in my life. Please, PLEASE - for the sake of your tenants, do NOT use this company.

However, both policies remained active and charged for four years, resulting in significant duplicate billing.

When contacting Resident Insurance in October 2022 to cancel the newer policy, we were informed only one policy was canceled. This raises concerns about the adequacy of Resident Insurance's internal communication and customer service procedures. I absolutely cancelled my policy upon moving out in 2018 but got an email this week (2020) saying my policy was due for auto renewal. However, they couldn't find my phone number in the call logs of a supposed system that of course only they have visibility to. Regardless, even if I had forgotten to notify them every single insurance company I have dealt with previously such as Geico, Travellers, or their 3rd party handlers have had zero issue reimbursing me for the time after my lease ended.

How can you possibly charge someone renters insurance for a place that another person inhabits? I spoke with a young man named Eric who says this company is located in Utah, and apparently he is the manager of this company and there is no formal Escalations department because this is not a legitimate company. Rarely have I seen such poor customer service and attempt to nickle and dime individuals, only Frontier Communications was this crooked, and at least they had an escalations department that I was able to eventually have months of overcharging reimbursed. We used this insurance for a year as recommended by our landlord. I can't speak for the quality of the insurance itself as we never had a need to file a claim. However, as others have mentioned, the company forces you into an annual auto-renew that you can't opt out of. There is no way to cancel this auto-renew. Having read reviews prior to signing up, I was well prepared and used a credit card with an expiration of less than a year to ensure they couldn't steal an extra annual payment. But I also tried doing things correctly; I ended my service online well before the renew process took place and I called their customer service asking twice for verbal confirmation that I would not be charged. Despite this, a month later I just received a "payment failed" notification in my inbox. They actually tried to charge me.

There's no way this can be legal, and I'm sure someone with more motivation with me could probably contact an appropriate source to report this activity. But until that white knight shows up, be sure to use some form of payment that will be invalid in less than a year if you want to avoid being charged twice. Better yet, just pick one of the 42 billion other renters insurance companies out there. ResidentInsure doesn't deserve your business.

The most recent time I managed to talk to someone but as soon as I mentioned I have a record of them cancelling my account I was transferred and put on hold until their phone system forced me to leave a message. Unless you plan on having a policy with them until the day you die I'd highly recommend not purchasing insurance from these people.

When my daughter transferred out of student housing ResidentInsure kept billing us for renter's insurance. They refuse to refund any of the months they charged us when she was no longer a resident there.

I moved out from an apartment and call talk to Resident Insurance agent to cancel the policy and stop automatic payment. However, they keep taking money out of my account for the next 3 months. When I notice that, I called and talk to them, they said they do not have a record of my previous phone call, so they cannot refund me. Learn from my mistake and do buy renters insurance from this company, they will rip you off.

They have great and awesome team that assist their clients and they are very responsive. With my claims and inquiries they offer the assistance they can give. They have good and reasonable rates. Very affordable but I have to leave for some reason that I need more options. As my family is growing I need something - more policy. Policy options for me is good but some are not on my match or I need more options as I'm growing a family and they have different needs.

The claims process was very simple to me. You call the company or use their app and let them know of your issue. They immediately showed concern for me and my family. They made sure we were safe. On the app you are able to upload pictures which helps speed the process up. My claims process happened very quickly and I was very satisfied. The people I have dealt have been very polite and genuinely concerned about me and my needs. They always go the extra mile to help me. I would recommend this company to anyone I know that's renting.

The coverage was affordable and covered all my important possessions. The agent was able to help me understand what my policy contain so I did not feel helpless when I had to make a claim. They had a variety of plans depending on how much coverage you need. I feel they build their plans around people like me. They make sure they explain every option in detail so you are able to make an informed decision.

Very helpful group of people that took well care of all the processing. Didn't require much effort on my part. No hassle system. Very enjoyed my experience with them. Good customer service that was friendly and did not act like they hated their job. Was happy to talk to them and will continue to use their service. Great coverage. Exactly what I needed to make sure I was covered if anything was to happen. I enjoyed having the peace of mind knowing I was covered by the service. Had a great policy option for me to choose from. Was able to get an affordable plan without paying too much for it. Would use the service again and recommend it to a friend.

I never had a claim while using this company, they were good in other ways. Price for their insurance was reasonable and they covered belongings and other things. I would recommend them to use as a rental insurance or car. When I would call for anything the company employees were always courteous and helpful. They did not put you on hold for long periods of time, they could usually fix any problems, like change of address, etc by phone. If you have a problem like a leaky faucet or overrunning toilet they would cover your belongings that may have gotten damaged. I do believe they cover fire and theft too. It covers your belongings inside and outside of your home. If I had to stay somewhere else it covered that. I think I paid under $20.00 a month for the policy.

During the period that I had renters insurance, I never had to file a claim. But if I would have needed to, I would have been confident that it would have been handled professionally. Everything went satisfactory when I applied for the insurance. I feel like I was guided in the right direction in getting the coverage that I needed. I paid what I felt was a very small amount to have the assurance I would be covered. Options were spelled out in a way that was easy to evaluate what my needs were and what coverage I would need to pay for.

They did promptly receive my claim however it was a very long road to get the claim settlement and payment as they were going out of their way to try and make me expect that the job done was less than my standard and what I had lost. Very short to return calls. However wouldn't seem to listen to who I needed to speak with that I couldn't speak to the adjuster due to non-English understanding on his part. I could not understand him as his English was very poor. I was happy with the coverage and the monthly premiums. It was an easy payment plan with an autopay features that allowed my payment to always be timely. It was sent out in an easy to read format and showed easily what was covered and when payments were due. It was very clear about what was not covered as well.

I never had to use the claims processing, since I never had to file a claim with them. They're a reasonably respected company, so I'm sure that their claims processing is just fine though. I never had an issue with customer service, and the one phone interaction I did have was pleasant and short. The phone menu was brief and quick in its routing to an actual living human being. Coverage was extensive and had I had an actual issue, nearly everything of importance to me would've been covered. Review your coverage for yourself. I just wanted basic coverage, and that's what I picked. Not sure folks looking into renters insurance are going to need some massive selection of policy options to choose from though.

Only had one claim. Had a break in and they stole a few things like a tv, stereo, and Xbox. The claim processed fairly quickly with no real problems. Customer service was just okay. Wait times on calls were longer than I would have liked; however, once I talked to someone they were nice and generally helpful. They covered everything that was stolen and damaged. Absolutely cannot complain about the coverage. Of course, you pay more for the great coverage. Several policy options were available. At the time, I was in college and didn't have a lot of money to spend. Esurance had several affordable options for poorer college students.

Always there when I need them. Always do what they can to help their customers. No long waiting on the phone and no having to listen to the automated recordings for very long at all. I never had to actually do a claim. I just always made sure I paid my premium on time and they were very helpful in helping me take out the policy. If I had any questions, I knew I could call them and they would be able to answer my questions in a timely manner. They provided many different policy options. Umbrella, renters, car, motorcycle, home etc. The renters ins is very reasonable. I now have regular home insurance through them since I now own a home. My automobile insurance is through them as well. The coverage is great, especially with the automobile insurance I have through them now. I have the road side assistance and have used it a total of three times (due to locking my keys in my car). They are a very helpful insurance company.

I had to over pay my rental insurance, and not informed when I was to receive my obvious refund, that it would go on the credit card used for payment. Now that I cancelled, I can't receive my refund that they knew I would be requesting to be mailed to me. This seems like a very unprofessional way to do a business transaction. I no longer have the credit card I used, they still refused to refund my money. I have to wait for the credit company to reject it and then the credit card company is responsible on refunding my money. The credit card does not have my current address and was told to call them. I don't' believe that I have to go through all this to just get my refund that they knew would need to be refunded.
