My wife's car was totaled in September 2011 after a head-on collision with a car driven by a minor insured by Progressive Insurance. They encouraged us to settle all claims before a full diagnosis was obtained and all medical treatments completed. They challenged the cost of medical services or the need for medical services. In the end, they refused to consider the seriousness of my wife's injuries in working a settlement - taking the position of, "Here is what can give you - take it or leave it." We are seeking legal representation before the California status of limitation comes upon us (2 years) and have filed a complaint with the State Insurance Board.

Our advice: 1. If you are shopping for insurance, Progressive will sell you a policy but pray you never need them to pay a claim; 2. If you are hit by a driver insured by Progressive, seek legal representation. This company does not deal in good faith.

This insurance company is the worst company to be with. I was with them for 15 years, then I was in an accident. Wow! How they seem to change faces. Their repair shop is shotty. The accident wasn't my fault, but my insurance company took the side of the other person. I thought I paid their bills. I got my vehicle back with one new headlamp and the other one wasn't even cleaned to look halfway good. They only waxed the right side of fender and hood and left the other side all dull. Instead of totaling the vehicle, they chose to do $7,000.00 of repairs to the vehicle including a junk yard frame (they said it's their choice). I'm trading this vehicle tomorrow. It looks bad. I am so disgusted with Progressive. They didn't even give me a rental because Enterprise RAC didn't have any rentals. Whatever! Go to GEICO. They offer better rates anyways.

I purchased a 6 month policy with Progressive for $185.00 a month. When they sent a renewal notice, they wanted to raise my rate to $220.00 a month. I couldn't afford that amount due to my husband's recent job loss, so I didn't renew. (There were no changes in the policy other than the rate, no claims or traffic tickets.) I parked the vehicle until we could afford to pick up insurance with another company, which we did at a much lower rate. Now, I'm being billed almost $400.00 for a policy I didn't renew, on terms I didn't agree to and on a vehicle that wasn't driven. I've tried to speak to someone from Progressive about this, but they said there is nothing I can do and they will continue with collections. I fulfilled my 6 month agreement. How can they raise my rates and automatically renew my policy without any consent from me? This is absurd.

After waiting a week, Ron said that Mike did not want to speak to us and the matter would be handled by Ron. He was very, very unprofessional. Please help! What can we do? On January 2, 2013, I was at work, took my lunch and headed down to the parts store to get some new wiper blades for our winter (Minnesota). I heard a clink and a pop from the engine, and saw smoke in the cabin. I pulled over and saw a fire underneath the car. I put the fire out with a fire extinguisher I actually had to buy from the parts store. So I called, got the car towed to a Volvo dealership and awaited an assessment. They found out there is a hole at the bottom of the engine, which leaked oil onto the plastic splash guard, which is what caught on fire. On top of that, when the adjuster came out to look at the car, he asked me if I placed a heated pad under the car to warm the engine (what nerve) and deemed that the car is unrecoverable due to wear and tear. Really? 137K miles was wear and tear that put a hole in my engine?

Now I'm out of a car simply because I will not pay another $500 to put a new motor in a car that is worth $4,000 on Kelly Blue Book. In fact, the only thing they will cover is the stupid plastic guard. I must say I am out of this company and from reading all of the other complaints on here, it is easily understandable that Progressive is cheap just like their advertised quotes.

Progressive Insurance was fully responsible for an accident that totaled our Volvo, sending me and my two children to the emergency room, and subsequent physical therapy, which continues to this day. Two years after the accident, despite my locating their office and driving to them while still using a cane weeks after the accident (damage to my spine / discs), Progressive forced me to pay out of pocket for two years - offered no settlement at any time - while forcing me to produce all medical receipts in addition to the fact that I had every medical provider submit these directly to them. Progressive attempted to allow the Statue of Limitations (2 years in Virginia) to run out, thereby having no obligation to pay me a dime.

I had to file a Warrant in Debt to wrangle a settlement from them, which did produce a low-ball offer, and they would not offer more. In General District Court, the judge found it in favor of me, in an amount greater than Progressive’s settlement offer, but not covering my costs as Progressive filed several motions fraudulently blocking evidence from review. Appeal is even more expensive, and attorneys, let's not even get started. Now, Progressive Insurance is failing to even pay the settlement ordered by the Court, instead claiming that they have a legal obligation to turn this over to medical liens filed by the emergency room/hospital on the day of the accident and will only write the check to them.

Attorneys have been of no assistance. The Judicial system of little to no assistance. The statutes are written to protect the businesses. The statutes require us to pay for auto insurance. The statutes do not require the insurance companies to pay for our damages. Progressive Insurance is in Breach of Faith of their responsibility. The Insurance Board agrees with this and has accepted the complaint but can do nothing. Get a lawyer, day one. That is the way the lawyers have written the statutes, ensuring their own business. Progressive deserves all the vitriol and scorn and none of our money. There are ethical insurance companies, USAA for one. But the system is rigged against us and for these rapacious corporations.

On November 19, 2012, a young man backed into our brand new 2013 Honda CR-V, cracking the plastic bumper cover. He was nice enough to give us his insurance info and said he would contact them right after Thanksgiving.

After approximately 20 phone calls to the Progressive phone number on his insurance card, and nearly two months' time, I was able to get an adjuster to look at my automobile. He gave me his estimate on the spot, handed me a check, told me to go ahead and get it repaired. I asked him why I couldn't first go to the body shop, get the estimate and then we'd all decide what the amount was. He said "Progressive doesn't do it that way. Some companies do." He also told me that if it was more than the amount he'd given me, just to contact them and they'd make it right. That was a very discouraging statement, given all the trouble I'd had talking to them from the start of the incident.

So when I took it to the body shop, sure enough, their estimate was about $170 more than the check Progressive gave me. I was so upset at this point, I drove to our State Farm office and asked them if they'd help me with these people. They gave me the go ahead to get our vehicle repaired and said they'd handle it from here on out. All of this grief and aggravation for a repair that's going to be under $500!

On 12/19/2012, as I was getting ready for work, a lady hit my parked car driving about 35-40 mph. We both happened to have Progressive. A claim was submitted under her insurance policy and my car was towed to a collision center. I was also provided with a rental car and everything was fine. On 12/21/2012, I was contacted by my adjuster and was told that my car was deemed a total loss and I would receive a check for $5,445.41. After some time had passed, I had decided to purchase a new vehicle. This is where things started to get shady.

I called to replace the vehicle on my policy and was told they couldn't do it because I had to file a new FR-44 form. So now I would need to start a new policy. The only problem was that this new policy was $1,234.52 when I had just paid for 6 months coverage in full on 12/10/2012 - in the amount of $682.44. So just to switch a vehicle out on an existing policy, Progressive wants me to pay double? To me this doesn't sound right. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Weekend before Christmas: I went to visit my parents during Christmas this year. I believe it was on the rainy Sunday before the 25th. My mom told me after I woke up that my car (2004 Ford Focus) had been struck by someone. Basically, there is a huge scratch on the driver's side, trailing from bumper to bumper, and left my rear left tire flattened. The guy who hit my car (an "investigator"), who was apparently speeding in the rain, was insured under Progressive and left his info card on the car's windshield while it was raining (idiot move, guess he was not a very smart "investigator").

So we called up the Progressive guys, and we were told that they can provide me with a rental and cover all costs for it in the meantime. The car was scheduled to be towed to Balboa Auto Body shop for repairs, but they will not be available until December 31st. I was given a 2012 Ford (not really sure what model) car by Enterprise rental, and I hated how the car "performed" right from the get-go (but that's another story).

December 31st came, and the Balboa Auto Body guys finally towed the car to their shop. Yay, finally my car will be repaired. On January 2nd, I was at work and got a message from my mom who received this wonderful bit of news that Progressive has elected to refuse the repair and instead offered a settlement as the "estimated repair bills exceed the current worth of the car". Apparently, they have this "little blue handbook" that determines the net worth of a car by year/model. Tell you what, Progressive, take that handbook, spread a little Icy Hot on it, admire it for a bit, turn it sideways, and stick it square up your monkey **.

So the stipulations I was offered were to take the car back and they will offer "compensation" so I can try and fix the car myself (translation: do absolutely nothing and like it). And second, offer me a settlement based on their handbook (was not given the exact amount), but it is not guaranteed if I will get the car back (translation: see translation #1). Let me understand this for a second, Progressive. How exactly does a scratch/tire repair job cost more than $3,000.00? And now with the "settlement" (option 2) that I am offered, how do you propose I get a replacement car with the amount of money being offered when and if you decide to keep my car? Well, an assumption that I came up with is that Progressive practices the business principles of ** and **-o-nomics.

My 15-year-old daughter and I were in the McDonald's drive-thru. There was a tan-colored truck ahead of us and a full-sized black Expedition waiting behind us. Both my daughter and I were still wearing our seat belts. We're just chatting with each other when suddenly my red Hyundai Elantra jerked forward with some force. My car was in first gear at the time and my foot on the clutch. Had I not released the clutch so fast, I would've hit the vehicle in front of me. On impact, my daughter and I were tossed forward quite a bit. My daughter said she got a sharp pain at the base of her neck and then an instant migraine. I somehow managed to hurt my left shoulder. The girl never even got out of her car; I did. And after making sure everyone was okay, told her to have her info ready because I was reporting it. I called the local police just for them to inform me they can't do anything because the parking lot is private property.

We exchanged all info and I called my agent at Farmers. She walked me through the steps to file a written claim to Progressive (the other driver's company). In the meantime, my daughter is hurting bad enough so we took her to the ER. While waiting, I called Progressive to file a claim. I was quickly informed that the policy holder had already reported it to them. They gave me the claim number and told me I should hear from a local adjuster in 24-48 hours. Okay, so the doctor said my daughter has a cervical spine sprain. This whole incident happened on Dec. 20, 2012 at about 4pm. The next day, the adjuster calls. She was very, very rude and unprofessional and proceeded to inform me that I need to file this claim with my own insurance because there is a possible policy issue that needs address written by the holder. She said they can't get a hold of her and she won't return their calls which is hard for me to believe considering she called and reported the accident immediately after it happened, so why would she refuse to answer calls or return voicemails?

So she told me that they are going to deny the claim since they can't speak with her and told me she couldn't tell me why. My company says, "What's the problem? It's like this, either she has a policy or she doesn't and since they found her policy with the provided policy # and have both of us claim #s, one would believe she has a policy." The rude lady told my husband on Friday, Dec. 21, 2012 at about 10:13am on the phone that they would get back to us and here it is Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012 and no calls or letters from Progressive. My daughter has documented injuries with a hospital bill. I have undocumented injuries I haven't even seen because I can't afford any medical bills. Also, there is damage to my rear bumper and under it. My trunk is out of adjustment. There are multiple dents in the trunk and bumper and the paint is chipping.

Tomorrow, I am going to get auto body estimates. And first thing Monday morning, I am calling some attorneys and the Board of Insurance in my state. This is ridiculous. Their policy holder rear-ended me in the drive-thru of McDonald's after being fully stopped behind me for several minutes and they're telling me to file a claim with my insurance. No way. I am not the idiot that hit someone in a drive-thru. Why should I have to pay my deductible and cause my premiums to go up? I have a ticket/accident free record. I should not be punished for her stupidity and Progressive's rudeness. They can deal with the attorneys now.

We were insuring our autos through Progressive Insurance for about two months, at the agreed rate of less than $120 per month. We allowed Progressive to have access to our checking account (direct billing). On the third month, with only an email notice four days before the billing date, they took over $400 from our account - leaving us very little in the bank for our other bills. Of course, we worked with our bank to get our money back and immediately got another insurance company. Their excuse for trying to jack us up? Our 24-year-old son who lives an hour away from us; was married to a woman for two years and at the time of the attempted theft of our hard earned money, was divorced from her for the last two years. We still occasionally had a piece of her mail showing up at our house.

Now comes the scary part. Somehow, Progressive knows that we get an occasional scrap of her junk mail at our address and assumes that my son's ex-wife lives with us and is driving our cars. Because they don't know her age, they list her as being 16 years old! I filed a complaint with the Arkansas Insurance Commissioner and have not heard anything from them except that they are investigating the matter. About a month later, I got a letter from some bought and paid for, generically named Credit Collection Service that said we owed them $172 for one week's coverage at less than $120 per month. I have math skills and the most I figure I would have owed Progressive is about $30, which they now cannot collect due to the fact that they sold the debt to a third party instead of being reasonable.

So we (my wife, brother-in-law and I) migrated from Arizona to Oregon. Like many Americans, we're migrating in hopes of better opportunities (e.g. work) and for six months, things were very rough in Oregon (edge of homelessness rough). We could not afford the Oregon rate (and a new pay-up front fee) for AAA, so we looked around for a switch. Progressive offered the best rate it seemed, 2 vehicles (just liability), no large upfront registration fee and just a low monthly payment of under $60.00. Awesome! Nope!

First, our bank would not allow Progressive to directly take money out of our account. We tried everything we could to make that work but it just would not allow payment. There are two local Progressive offices but they are not related in anyway to the online Progressive which is out of Florida. So, we needed a bill sent to us but that jacked the monthly payment. Even in this, they could not get the bills to us on time. Then we got charged for late fees and constantly threatened with termination. Now we are getting on our feet and the monthly payment has somehow gone up to $75.00+ and then there is a $95.00 renewal fee every 6 months, it turned out! What? Why was this not in the quote?

We needed to get through this month, so we paid the extra $95.00 on top of the $75.00 but next month, with all our bills caught up at last, we are switching to another insurance company. Do not use Progressive! It is a franchise operation and bills slide upward, no matter how well you drive and then there are hidden (not discussed at the time of purchase) costs. Moreover, as the many complaints listed on this sight indicated, they do not have your back when you do get into an accident.

Progressive Insurance has to be the worst insurance company I've ever dealt with in all my years of driving. In the year I was with them, they tried all sorts of ways to take more money from me. A few months ago, a letter was sent to me that they found out that I have an underage driver in my household and so they were going to add him to my policy for an extra $800 a year. The only problem, I only have a 6-year-old daughter and she doesn't drive yet. When I contacted Progressive, I had to wait about 30 minutes before someone picked up. I told them about the letter I received, and they said that they found out I had an underage driver in my household named Richard **. I told them I don't know a Richard ** and that I have a 6-year-old daughter.

Eventually, the agent admitted that it was a mistake, but she couldn't fix the issue; however, she would transfer me to another agent. So I was transferred to the next agent and again I waited about 15 minutes for the new agent to pick up, only to be told that she too couldn't help me as it would have to be in a different department. So again the agent transferred me to the different department. I again waited for about 10 minutes for someone to pick up, only to be told that she too couldn’t fix my issue because another department deals with it. In total I was passed around 7 times, only to be told they couldn't help me. I spent about 2 hours department dancing until I got fed up. As soon as I got off the phone, I sent a nasty email to customer service. About 2 weeks later, I got an email back telling me they fixed the issue. If this experience wasn't bad enough, upon renewal of my premium, they tried to increase my premium by 50% because of a minor traffic violation.

I told them that an increase was warranted, but a 50% increase was unreasonable. They told me the new premium is non-negotiable. They also cited the increase to a claim I submitted to them when my car was damaged - a claim that was never paid out. It has been 5 months and they still have to fix my car. The bottom line is when you need them to do their jobs like pay out a claim, they are very slow to act and inefficient; however, when they want to charge you more money, they are super efficient. Stay away from them.

I paid this transport company to move my 1973 VW Bus that I had just gotten inspected and passed for state registration. The transporter gave me no paperwork or filled any out regarding the condition of the vehicle before transport. He promised to call on delivery. He informed me, after I contacted him when he was 2 days late, that he had 3 blowouts on the drive and it was an expensive and not profitable trip. He was an hour away in Limon at 6pm getting replacement tires. He chose to drop my bus off at midnight without a call to avoid confrontation about a damaged front end that has destroyed the windshield and metal frame around it. He also left a rock from a neighbor’s yard next to the damage to make it appear to have happened by vandals, but the damage is clearly not from the round rock nor could it have been done by a person because of the extent of damage. Besides that, it was discovered within 30 minutes of being dropped.

Although I have proof that the windshield was intact (as it wouldn’t have passed inspection the prior week), witnesses, and mechanics receipts, I have been told that if the policyholder doesn't cooperate, they don't have to proceed with the claim. So the bus that was ready for my 20-year-old daughter and worth more than $5,000 before it left Kansas City is now undrivable and needs $5,000 worth of work. The laws also protect the insurance company from having to reimburse me for lawyer fees should I prove in a court that my claim is legitimate unless I sue them for it separately under a consumer law with a jury. The whole process could take years, and there is no consequence to the transporter. Progressive took pictures and claimed the damage shouldn't exceed the policyholder’s deductible of $1,000 even though their pictures showed metal destroyed around the windshield and the photographer mentioned the triangular damage on new tires to be from tie downs. The Colorado insurance commissioner is trying to motivate Progressive but tells me they don't have to pursue with uncooperative policyholder regardless of my evidence.

Progressive Insurance charges high rates for stupid reasons. They sent me a letter required by the government saying that I did not qualify for their lowest rates because there was no evidence of a car lease for the past three years on my credit report and there had been two inquiries on my credit report in the last three years. I sent them an email saying that I found a much better rate with AAA and I would give them one opportunity to keep my business. Progressive sent me a pre-written response filled with red tape asking me to contact some other department. I sent them an email to the new department telling them to shove it where the sun doesn’t shine. I went with AAA. That was the best customer service I ever had with Progressive. If you like that kind of customer service, then by all means go with Progressive; otherwise, try someone else. There are plenty of better choices out there with better rates.

On 11/21/2011, my 13-year old daughter and I were rear ended by a Progressive insured driver while waiting at a red light. When the Progressive insured driver learned I called the police and requested assistance, she left the scene. A police investigation revealed the driver has prior license suspension(s) for DUI and after reviewing her odd behavior on the 911 recording, was suspected of being drunk and fled the scene for fear of being arrested for DUI again. I pressed charges. Progressive never disputed liability, but has not been cooperative. Progressive claims adjusters and claims representatives are disrespectful, unprofessional and unethical. Claims adjusters agreed to fix only the cosmetic damages, but have refused to fix other known/reported accident related damages within close proximity to the point of impact.

I'm extremely frustrated and perturbed with the flippant attitude and responses to my concerns, but realizing my attempts to reason directly with Progressive were unfruitful. I filed a written complaint with the Insurance Commissioner. My complaint was detailed, but precise and to the point. It was full of supporting documentation providing conclusive proof that Progressive has not been operating within the laws governing insurance companies. For example, it contained vehicle service records proving the vehicle was maintenance/serviced regularly and had no known mechanical problems. The information proved we are responsible owners that immediately address vehicle needs such as expensive new Michelin tires, brake pads, new factory windshield wipers, etc. Pictures of the prior/fixed damages, pictures of current damages. Letter from Geico (my insurance company) stating my damage claims are caused from the accident.

I explained that our car had just turned 4 years old, we are the original owners and it had less than 50,000 miles at the time of the accident. I also included letters from Progressive that were directly addressed to my 13-year old daughter. By law, mail of that nature cannot be mailed directly to a minor child, but must be sent to the attention of the parents/guardians. I'm not sure how they obtained her cell phone number (as we never disclose the number) but Progressive was bold enough to call her during school. Contacting my 13-year old daughter directly is illegal and unethical. To be certain the complaint was received, I mailed it certified mail/return receipt.

My suggestion to all others in similar situation is not to waste time trying to reason with the unreasonable, as it's unfruitful. Print a written complaint directly from the Department of Insurance website, gather supporting documentation and mail it certified mail/return receipt to the Insurance Commissioner. I guarantee you will receive a reply. You can also contact elected officials by writing them a letter requesting assistance as they can apply pressure to the Insurance Commissioner to resolve the issues. As the daughter of a newspaper man, bad publicity can produce results if you can get a news station to view your story and make sure to post it to YouTube and send the insurance company a copy as a courtesy. The more people that file complaints, the easier it is for the state to take action against Progressive Insurance.

Please remember this: We cannot control other people, we can only control ourselves and how we respond. So choose not to allow Progressive to frustrate you and be productive by following my suggestions. Then if your situation requires you to retain an attorney, you can prove you exhausted every avenue prior to involving the courts. Don't be intimidated and don't give up, but use your rights to your benefit.

I called Progressive as I was downsizing to a smaller car and was trying to get the best price, since they advertise constantly how competitive their rates are. When the agent stated the amount, I had to have her repeat it three times, as I didn't think I was hearing her correctly. They wanted $9,000 a year. (No, not $900, $9,000.) I have had two serious car accidents in the last three years, neither being my fault. But because of the accidents, they were going to charge an outrageous fee. I am 42 years old, single, do not drive far distances and have never had a ticket or accident that was my fault. I'm still flabbergasted over that quote.

My insurance agent provided me with auto insurance computations, which indicated Progressive was the lowest priced with the most coverage. She mentioned the company had a program called Snap Shot, which involved hooking a small data receiver to your vehicle to provide information about your "braking habits". If the data Progressive receives indicates good driving habits, credit is applied to your account. I have two vehicles insured - one is a truck, which is only used occasionally. I continuously received emails from Progressive telling me they weren't receiving data from the truck even though I drove it at least once a month.

The van I use regularly received 5 "hard brakes" in one day; when I was slowing for a traffic light, pulling into a parking space & slowing for a turn! I complained to Progressive & was rudely told that was how the program worked. Yesterday the Snap Shot beeped 3 separate times while I was driving on the highway! If you have to deal with them, hire an attorney immediately and make sure you have a police report because they will certainly try to get out of paying any claim. They are a sorry excuse for such a huge insurance company. I am telling everyone who has Progressive Insurance to change now while they have a chance. They are certainly crooks and will not pay out even when it was their insured's fault even with the police report. Pia ** and Melissa ** are certainly not trained well enough as adjustors. They had real nerves to tell me that I could only be in rental for 1 week.

Even though they say my car is a total loss, my auto damages exceeded what they are willing to pay. So I am $** out of luck. I still have my car at the auto body shop which they told me where to take it to and I am the one paying storage fees which is downright ** up, until at which time they are able to come up with a below market value for my paid for BMW. Pretty much this is the history of how they operate. I am glad that I am not with Progressive but I did feel obligated to notify their insured that he really needs to change insurance because his rates will now sky-rocket because of this incident.

I’m still waiting to be paid for the damages to my BMW, which of course has exceeded damages of over $6,800.00 and they only want to give me only $3,400.00 for it. What a freaking joke this is. I cannot believe the nerve of them. I am certainly filing a complaint to Texas Dept. of Insurance; probably won't do anything about it. Suspecting water damage, but nothing else visible, I called a plumber who drilled a hole in the wall, stuck a camera down the hole and found standing water and a ton of black mold. Progressive/Homesite was called and they sent an independent adjuster who met with my plumber.

Initially, the damage was thought to be limited to behind the tub. However, as the tub was torn out and the wall between the tub and shower stall was removed, it was obvious the damage was much more extensive. Long story short, they refused to pay the remainder of the claim, alleging that the tub was the source of the leak. It was not; even their own inspector's notes discuss the tear out of the tub and reuse of the old tub. They have used every excuse in the book not to pay a legitimate claim. They refused to return phone calls or answer emails.

I have never dealt with such a dishonest group of people and I advise everyone to stay away from Progressive/Homesite. Oh, and their rates went up for renewal? Doubled. Our other insurances are with Geico and I regret that we did not get our boat insurance with Geico. We went boating about two weeks ago and docked our boat at our private lake dock. There were no problems whatsoever with our boat. A storm came onto Lake Murray and we had terrible angry waters. We could not even walk on our floating dock. The boat was slamming into the dock and slamming the water for several days. We just moved here so we had no idea how violent the lake could become.

When the storm calmed, my husband went to the boat and found that the metal that attaches the starter to the motor had sheared off from the extreme impact of the storm. This is an older Robalo boat with a 175 Johnson motor and double thick fiber glass hull. The hull was not damaged, but the extreme impact of the seas sheared the starter off the motor. We immediately filed a claim with Progressive feeling confident they would take care of it. We are old customers but have just returned to the company. They sent out an adjuster who refused our claim saying he had never seen anything like this before and we would have to prove that that is what happened. We sent him to Southern Inboard in Ballentine, SC who had just worked on our boat so they could testify that our boat was in good running condition and that nothing was wrong with the motor.

Now they say we should get a survey, but would still not guarantee, even with a ruling in our favor they would allow our claim. We have spoken to a mechanic who says "unless the motor froze up," which it is not after being checked, it is very likely this is an impact fracture. We basically are stuck with no recourse. They say because they have never seen this before, it is our obligation to prove it beyond a shadow of doubt. We have invited them to call our neighbors to be assured the boat was well maintained and in good running condition, but they refuse to move on it. Do not buy your insurance from this unscrupulous company. We are reaching out to someone to help us in getting the damage repaired from the storm to our boat.

I don't know who they thought they were dealing with, but I am relentless in my pursuit of correcting a wrong.

This company is not worth the spit it would take to extinguish them if they were on fire in my opinion. Do not use Progressive Insurance! You can even see in my photos the dent to the skeg protector and you can see the scratches where the obstruction entered the water jackets. My husband purchased commercial insurance for his truck in Jan. The rate was reasonable but took 3 months to get all the paperwork straight. Six months later, he increased his coverage as he got his own FMCSA operating authority. When we got the premium bill for this change, it was increased over 3 times the original quote. After numerous trips to see the agent, she finally got it 'straightened out', blaming it all on the corporate office; and it ended up being slightly double what we were quoted. He only stayed in business for 2 months and gave up truck driving. Progressive would not cancel his coverage and still tried to charge us an additional month of premium after all the paperwork they had requested to cancel the coverage had been sent to them 3 times. The last letter I got was threatening to turn us over to a collection agency for the premium charged to us after he cancelled. I have never dealt with such a messed up company. Months to get the coverage going and seemingly impossible to cancel, thank God we did not have any claims!

I was in a recent accident where the other party is also Progressive Insurance. This other driver of a pick-up truck backed into the front of my car. I was with a passenger and they told me I can't use her as a witness of the incident. I took pictures of the accident showing that this pick-up truck has a plywood blocking his back view mirror; hence, he also told me that he didn't see me and tried to offer money to pay for his fault. Unfortunately, I trusted Progressive Insurance will take care of me and did not call for police. They told me after three weeks that they are not paying for the damages for each car since they are taking each party's word that we are not at fault even though I have a stronger evidence that it was his fault. So lesson is call for police for any accident to to get police report. Take video or record conversation or better yet, find an outside witness.

When I mentioned to someone who worked filing appeals of decisions, she warned me Progressive is good about fixing vehicle damage but very bad about paying for injury. They are the subject of more personal injury appeals than any other insurance. I still stayed with Progressive. I have had a policy with them since 2004 without ever making a claim. I had an accident where the other driver was at fault so his insurance had to pay for fixing damage. I did suffer an injury, have had two separate doctors confirm I have suffered an injury from accident and now they are making me go to a doctor of their choosing so they can get his opinion regarding my injuries. Since he is being paid by Progressive, I can only guess what his final diagnosis will be since they are paying for him. I wish I would have listened and dropped them right away. I shouldn't be put through extra pain and exams because they are too cheap to pay for me to be treated when I paid them all these years.

When I call about the Increase, they told me that the increase was because our state had given them approval to increase their rates and that my credit was not satisfactory under their guide lines of risk. I pay all of my premiums in full when I get my invoice for them but that was not good enough. I think that this company is being run by a bunch of accountants that look at statistics and totally over look at the customers that they serve. I am appalled and I am here to tell you not to do business with a company that treats you as a number.

You have a choice and I suggest to the Progressive customers to call any other company; they will see a big difference in the annual premium. I called All State and got a premium that is $400 per six months cheaper than what they were going to charge me. I had been insured by Progressive for about 10 years. Well, when my renewal bill came this time, I went into shock. It was about double the last one - $1,500 for 6 months! Their explanation was as follows: (1) You have fewer than two open, satisfactory loans and accounts; (2) You have no auto loans or leases reported open for the last 10 years; (3) You have no open loans or accounts; (4) The average open date of all your reported loans and accounts was less than 20 years ago (Note, this one does not make any sense in view of items 1, 2, and 3; they may mean more than 20 years ago.). And they also say, “Your payment terms are not our most favorable.”

I really do not care about their payment terms. I always paid in full upon receipt of the bill. I'm retired. I have no need to buy anything on credit. I seldom ever did. I saved and then made the purchase. I did write to Progressive. They offered no explanation as to exactly how my being wise with my money, and therefore debt-free, affected my risk assessment. I did write to my State Representative and to the Insurance Commissioner. The Insurance Commissioner tells me that they have acted "within the law". Really? It does seem that the framers of the law were a bit naive. I surely expected the company's policy makers to make use of their brains when they reviewed their renewal accounts.

I was the only person in the 3-car accident that was insured and of course, to my bad luck, I have Progressive. I have uninsured/underinsured. It has been 3 years and our medical bills still have not been paid. I had fractured the ribs of my 15-year-old who had very serious whiplash and her knees were smashed. My car was totaled in the accident. When Progressive paid the replacement of my car (wow), they replaced my car that did not have a dent. Nothing’s wrong with it.

In fact, it had brand new tires with a car that was hit by a very large deer. I also had rental insurance which I had the car for two days. They then told me, "Oh by the way, it may say you can rent for 30 days but we only pay for three. You pay the rest." So I'm not getting the price for my car but a good $2,500 less and then they only pay for three days not 30 days. I had to quickly find a car with fractured ribs. I have finally hired attorneys to go after them. This is ridiculous. We pay for insurance for what reason? For Progressive not to stand behind their word. I really think that they need to be thoroughly investigated as they are crooks in my opinion.

Hassle galore: My 24-year-old daughter was hit by a woman in the Speedway parking lot on August 12. The driver was not even looking where she was going and ran into my daughter's car, which was stopped with her SUV putting an actual hole in her door. When my daughter wanted to call the police, the other driver said it was private property and they would not respond. (We are from Michigan, and the accident occurred in Ohio. So my daughter was unsure of whether the police would come and yes, they do respond to accidents on private property in Ohio.)

On Monday, when contacting Progressive, the agent was not only rude to my daughter but to my self as well. Apparently, the other driver had another version of what happened and they were going with her story. Never mind that when my daughter did file a police report, they ruled that the other driver was at fault and it is on surveillance camera to prove it.

The following week, my daughter left for medical school and we were going to store her car while she was gone. We can't do this until it is fixed. And Progressive is dragging their feet, costing my daughter money when she was innocent in this incident. We have done everything asked of us by Progressive, such as having them inspect her car to determine angle of impact, for which she had to drive 30 minutes away when she was busy trying to get ready to leave for school. Now it's time for either Progressive to pay up, or my attorney will be contacting them very soon. A month is too long to have this resolved.

I called to inquire about the change. Apparently, my wife (who had insurance with another company) had been added to my policy without my approval and the amount was the prorate for the last few months. After being rudely treated, I was told that there was no way to get that money back and that we had received two letters (which we did not) for me to sign to prevent her from being added to my policy. However, the idiocracy didn't end there. Apparently, the marriage discount wasn't added into sum.

I received a call from the manager "Mike" who left me a very rude voice mail saying "Hey, call me back. It’s Mike at Progressive." Progressive Insurance is the worst insurance company. I am most thoroughly dissatisfied with Progressive's level of service and pay out in handling my insurance claim for damage to my property during a storm. First of all, it took six weeks for them to decide how much my claim was worth. One of my windows got broken and the frame was damaged. I pointed out to them that their service took so long that I could have sustained additional damage to my window because it had rained in this time. I was told that was why they advised customers to cover up windows so as not to get additional damage. The storm had blown some of the fascia from my roof, and I was told they had assessed this damage at $88. There was damage to the siding and my hardwood floor.

They assessed my total claim damage at $3,200 minus depreciation of $1,200 minus $1,000 deductible. Oh, and I could get the $1,200 if I provided receipts of $3,200. I told them this was the biggest piece of crock I had encountered in submitting a claim and had never heard of this. Whenever I see those cute commercials I will turn off my TV. I will be changing insurance companies as soon as possible. I absolutely hate, hate, hate this company.

Nightmare getting through their process with my claim – I had a pipe leak between my kitchen and basement which resulted in flooding my basement and a portion of my kitchen – down the wall (the pipe took kitchen sink water and dishwasher water). I called Progressive and they had to send an adjuster up from Florida (I am in NY) which took two days. I had mold, etc. and have three young children. The adjuster said the basement carpet would be fine; meanwhile, ServePro said it had to be removed along with paneling, vinyl tile flooring in the basement, etc. In the kitchen, the large base cabinet, sink, and dishwasher had to be removed; and since they are hardwood cabinets (older), they came apart in pieces along with the sink and counter top that went across my dishwasher. ServePro said the subfloor has to be replaced and the vinyl flooring as well. Two cabinets are gone; sink and flooring has to be replaced; 24x24 Berber carpet in basement, etc.

Six weeks later, Progressive said they would pay me $5,000; and if I did not accept, the next step would be for me to get quotes from contractors; and then, they will negotiate with those contractors. Meanwhile, every contractor I've had in my house is disgusted with the quote Progressive gave me. Berber carpet replacement at $2.99/sq. ft. – you can't find Berber carpet at Home Depot for less than $5.00/sq. ft. I had left State Farm when I had a leak around my chimney into my daughter’s bedroom, and they were there the next day and cut me a check for $5K. On the other hand, Progressive wants to only pay us $5K; and we have five times the amount of damage... at least. Here's another catch: Progressive deducts money for depreciation, but do they add for inflation? No way. As soon as I'm done with this nightmare, I'm switching back to State Farm or Travelers. I heard they are both great. Don't get caught up in those cute commercials. I am seriously considering contacting a private adjuster and/or attorney. When I called and asked why that was, they said I would have to pay the extra amount until the damages they had paid out were paid for.

Why bother to have insurance if I'm going to have to pay for the damages on top of my insurance premiums? I thought insurance was just that insurance against paying big bills when you have an accident. Apparently, you still have to pay one way or another. I have paid probably over $20,000 in the years I've had insurance with them, which goes into their pocket and the insured pays for their own damages anyway. They suck!

A policy can be started online for many insurance policies as many commercials advertise. In January, I moved between different states and purchased a new car. My former insurance provider only covered regional areas, and didn't cover the state I just moved to. I went online, and got a Progressive quote. It was the lowest, and so I opted to purchase the policy. I paid the six month premium online as well. I selected to have a paperless billing, that discounted it a little more. (Of course, without paper bills, a person has to be more vigilant about looking online at their account changes). Before I knew it, my original "quote" had risen by over $100 and I was going to be billed via e-mail for it at a later time.

When I called to inquire, I was told about "adjustments" based on where I live (they knew that before I was given a quote, it was part of the online form), driving record (20 years on previous policy without an accident and no tickets), and "other demographics." Uh, yeah. Suddenly, they were the most expensive. I canceled that one real quick, and found a policy that was one half. Yes, one half the cost from a little reptile company (that I didn't check the price with initially in the internet group I researched) and a lower deductible! I am thrilled and upon later finding out where millions of Progressive's dollars are donated, I would have canned the policy at that point regardless of cost anyhow. I had been with Progressive for 15 years (autos, boat and umbrella policy). I submitted a claim in June 2012 for $2,900 because one of my boat motors had been vandalized and I needed two heads replaced. They declined the claim even though the marina mechanics attributed the motor failure to the foreign particles in the engine. My Crusader 350 engine only had 1,080 hours on it and I was told it was normal "wear and tear" by the Progressive investigators, who are obviously struggling to justify their existence within the company. My port engine has the same hours and is fine (it did not have the same foreign object diet as the starboard). So in Progressive's infinite stupidity, they denied my $2,900 claim.

It gets better. I upped my deductible to $1,000 last fall, so that means Progressive would have only had a $1,900 payout. In addition, these "idiot" investigators interviewed two marina service managers and their mechanics, sent the bad engine heads for forensic analysis and came to my home on the river to look at the boat. This foolishness most likely evaporated the $1,900 right there! I was paying Progressive approximately $1,800/year for auto, boat and umbrella and now I am paying them zero because I moved everything into another company called Encompass. Encompass is charging me $300/year less than Progressive with all coverages being equal.

I also sent two emails (with my claim number) to Progressive thinking that the people running the show might want to take a look at what was causing a 15-year customer to go elsewhere. One was to the CEO (glenn_renwick@progressive.com) and the other was to the head of claims **. I received absolutely no response from either person. Kind of says it all don't you think? I was over at my friend's place when someone hit my driver side door and there was this huge dent. It was one week before this accident that I added my wife to the insurance plan and she was new to the US so that reduced my deductible to $100 and as soon as I filed my claim, they started treating me like a criminal. I did not know who hit my car so my claim was to be paid by Progressive. Initially, I just saw the dent alone but did not see the other damages. Then I noticed that my passenger side door mirror had hit a tree in this impact and was broken.

Now when I said this to Progressive, the agent who was always bossy and rude said I had to file a new claim for this and I need to pay another $100 as deductible. I said, "Why should I do that since it was the same incident?" Guess what? She said that I should have told this initially. Then I asked, "How would I know what got else got damaged inside the car?" Then I had to take my car to this Progressive office where they analyzed the impact. I said to the agent the door keyless lock does not work now after the accident and she said that she has noted it down and it will be taken care and I trusted them. I agreed and got my doors and side mirror fixed after paying $200 (I should have paid $100 only). I took my car to Infiniti and I was charged $110 for analysis and he said that my actuator was dead and it would cost $450 to fix it. The dealer said that it could have been damaged by the accident or wear and tear, so there was no way of telling this. I called Progressive and this ** agent picked up the call and put me on hold for 25 minutes after telling me she will find someone else. She picked up the phone after 25 minutes (I am not hyping this but I was on hold for 25 minutes with my ear heated up) and said she would speak to the dealer. As said earlier, he explained the same. She told me that Insurance would not pay for it since it is not decisive because of the accident. I said, "It was working before the accident and it is not working now." She started shouting at me like a stray dog.

I said, "Listen, ma'am, I do not like to argue I said it was working fine before the accident; now it is not. The dilemma started with Progressive when I asked three times to remove my ex-wife from the policy. All my contact was through office calls Southside in Gloucester, VA. Every time I called, I got the runaround. Finally, she said she removed her name off the policy. However, I still have to pay for an extra driver on the same policy which again my ex-wife, so no change has been done. So I called again and again, the same lady kept answering the phone and giving me the runaround. Finally, she said, “If you want to take your wife's name off the policy, you need to provide documents to prove that she no longer lives in your house.” So I said my ex is in Africa and there’s no way for me to get a hold of her (which can be proven) and also, she has a separate policy bought through the same office.

So what am I supposed to do? Sorry nothing we can do (she said), I will send you some important documents, fill the highlighted lines and attach proof that she doesn't live with you. So I called and I canceled more than 5 times and I kept getting bills in the mail from Southside and Progressive. I paid with credit card but I'm still getting billed. I also called Progressive multiple times; they have been recording every call. Finally, they resolved it and they sent me a refund check by the amount I overcharged after the cancellation. Ironically, they turned me in to a bill collection agency for the same amount that I received as a refund.

I called again today, 7/31/2012, somebody answered she could not find anything about bill collection. So she had to transfer me to the commercial department, and that's what he said, oh the check we sent you was for the auto insurance policy but the amount you still owe, that's for the commercial policy. So it’s double talk or it’s misleading, or it’s dishonesty. If I regret anything, it will be dealing with Progressive for all these years. If I'm very sure about something, it will be that I’ll never ever deal with Progressive again. I am very dissatisfied consumer.

I have had my two cars insured through Progressive Insurance for 9 years with platinum status. I have never had a car accident, ticket, or anything while under this policy. I've been paying $69 per month (with very minimal coverage) for the past year. I moved recently to a different state, and I called to get a policy written for the new state (Florida). I was told that I would now be paying $250 per month! I was given no explanation for the huge increase, other than “That is Florida for ya." There was no attempt to try to save me money or offer any other explanation than the fact that I moved to a different state.

My policy was originally written in Florida. I had two cars on it with full coverage insurance and only paid $189/month. This was only about 6 years ago. Fast forward 6 years later, two paid for cars, no tickets, and no accidents; but I'm expected to pay $250 per month when I was just paying $69. This sounds really fishy, and if this happens/happened to you, don't be surprised when you call up to cancel that no one cares or tries to "save a customer." My recommendation if this sounds like you, is to switch! Don't be afraid. I found a better policy (with the same coverage) from another company.

On July 16, 2012, I woke up to my car being broken into and vandalized. I called Progressive to file a claim and on July 19, 2012. They sent an inspector to my job to inspect my car. I showed the inspector the point of entry as well as the damages the thieves made to my car. The inspector told me it would take an hour and I could go back inside to work. A whole three hours later, I went out to check on the inspector to find him sitting in his truck. When he got out, he told me some of my property would not be covered since it wasn't attached to the vehicle. I understood that as I read my policy thoroughly. He then told me my car was totaled! As an insurance agent myself, I have never heard of a comprehensive claim ending as a total loss. It was at that time that I asked what my options were and was told I could get another estimate and make a decision as to what I wanted to do. I was not given a copy of the estimate nor did the inspector say I had to agree with his inspection. Because I knew my car was not a total loss, I got an estimate from a reputable Chevy collision shop, which had the opportunity to inspect the same damage as the Progressive inspector and was told it would cost less than half of what the Progressive inspector stated and my car is not a total loss.

I then contacted my claims adjustor and after going over the options (neither of which included me having the opportunity to buy my car back), I told her that I wanted to withdraw my claim. She told me she could not do that until she talked to my lienholder. I informed her that I had already talked to my lienholder and made a decision to withdraw the claim. Again, she refused saying I had no right at this point to withdraw the claim. I was then able to view the Progressive inspector’s estimate online, and determined he included normal wear and tear, pre-existing damage as well as items that had no damage at all. After filing a formal complaint with TDI as well as Progressive claims grievance and my agent, I was under the assumption the claim would be withdrawn. On July 20, 2012, I received an email from my adjustor stating she was going to proceed with declaring my vehicle a total loss the reason being that I had to use Chevy parts (which according to my statutory rights 1952.301), says I have the right to pick my repair shop and could use part comparable to Chevy parts.

In response, I told her to withdraw the claim that I would repair my own vehicle as the estimate from Chevy only exceeded my deductible by $116. Again, she said she would not withdraw my claim. During this time, my lienholder was notified and an offer made after I told the adjustor several times to close my claim. Now my lienholder, because they have a financial stake in my vehicle, is demanding I surrender my car going by the fraudulent estimate the Progressive inspector submitted. I then contacted the claims center to find out who the claims adjustor's supervisor was, only to be lied to. When trying to contact someone that was over the claims department, I was stonewalled until one claims representative had the decency to connect me with their consumer complaints department for claims service and was given all the information I needed. The sad thing is the claims adjustor’s superiors agreed with her errors, judgment and outright lies to cover the fact that she broke several laws in regards to this joke they call a claims service.

On July 26, 2011, I finally spoke with the regional manager who informed me that my claim had been closed; however, their records would indicate that my car is a total loss, however there is no money paid out. He also admitted that the claims adjustor had made some errors and he would address that. I would be satisfied, however, if he can admit that some errors were made. How can he in good conscience not admit that the whole process including that fraudulent estimate was a mistake? I have sent information to my lienholder in an effort retain my vehicle and am feeling pretty good about it since I still owe money. My concern is if I felt bullied, lied to, intimidated and almost forced to give up my vehicle, how many other people without insurance knowledge have fallen victim to their tactics? Why would they rather pay thousands of dollars to settle a claim instead of nothing since the actual damage did not exceed my deductible but by $200? These practices need to be addressed or we as consumers will continue to be victims to false advertisement and shady business practices.

I crept and crawled to the car shop in all the rain. I then called Progressive after I was recommended to call my insurance company. The car was in the shop for a day getting fixed. I filed the claim, the lady told me someone will call. By that time my car was fixed, I now have a $1,100 bill. So, they asked me to fax the bill to them so they can look at the repairs. Well, I just got a call back from the insurance adjuster who stated, "Progressive isn't going to pay because the car is already fixed and the car shop doesn't have the old parts so they can prove the damage was actually flood-water related."

This is the most ** I've ever heard. Seeing as anyone who looks at the news/current events should know Houston was getting a lot of rain and there were flooded streets everywhere. I might as well not get insurance, extended warranties, etc. We as consumers pay all this money per year to these companies and then when it's time for them to pay us back, they come up with all kinds of excuses. I'm going to fight this one though!

He insisted and gave me a quote that was substantially lower than my previous insurance carrier. I agreed to switch based on the quote, but soon after I received an increase in the quote with no reasonable explanation. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and they agreed to honor the original quote.

Six months later, I received a new quote for our insurance renewal and this one takes the cake. They have increased the premium twice the amount of the original quote. My premium went from $595 to almost $1200 because my brother hit a stop sign. Granted this was an accident, I have had five years of safe driving and three years of being accident-free. This does not justify the outrageous and arbitrary price increase.

Progressive is using despicable business practices to lure customers and then they jack up the prices. I had no reason to leave my former insurance carrier if the Progressive agent did not mislead me. The company endorses these disgraceful and unethical practices. It is one thing to increase profits; it is another to use unethical practices to profit from unsuspecting customers. It is a real shame what this company is doing.

I have all the discounts: 5-plus years with the same company/insurance, multi-car, and no accidents/tickets for the last 5-plus years; same cars (all old; newest was a 2001 model) and same driver and usage; I have anti-theft on 2 cars, have electronic monthly payment from checking account and paperless billing, etc. So when I called to find out why my premium had increased, the reason given was that my credit score had gone done a little.

I have never been late on anything and they are raising my rates based not on my driving record (perfect) or on vehicles (old) or on claims (none), but on something not related at all to my ability to function as a safe, loyal driver. Because I bought a house in 2009 and have 3 credit cards (Kohl’s, Home Depot, Chase), I am being punished by Progressive for using credit I am qualified for and pay off quite regularly. So Progressive's thinking is: if the client is stretched out a little in credit, let’s charge them more so the hole can get deeper - do not reward them for being the perfect customer.

The Progressive Insurance immediately began to make calls to all involved, witnesses, etc, not to find truth, but to get them off the hook. Progressive then stalled, no communication, and then denial. They really are counting on having to be sued and know, to take an insurance company to court is very difficult, time-consuming and likely they will outspend and wear down the opposing side, who they hope will simply give up. Now, Progressive would be a very good company to have when you are at fault because they fight for you and make the other driver at fault. I hit a deer on Memorial Day last May 28th, 2012 at 3:30 am in Vinita, Oklahoma, which is 300 miles from home. I called my insurance after the accident and I gave them our location to send a tow truck. They said we were on a tollway and they couldn't send a tow truck. I then put the officer who helped us on the phone and he told them they could come get my car. My fiance and I were stranded all day due to the holiday. We had to stay in a hotel until Tuesday when Enterprise was open.

I returned home Tuesday night. On Wednesday, I get a call from the Progressive insurance and they told me my car was totaled - about $4,300 in damage. I checked the value of my car via Kelley Blue Book and it was worth $4,700. Progressive then told me they went by some other form of valuing vehicles. Progressive told me my car was only worth $3,200 if I wanted to keep the car and they would give me $3,971 if they let me total the car. If I didn't let them total it, they would brand the title. I told them that is not right.

I have been a member with them since 2007. I'm a diamond level member with them and I wanted them to treat me fairly and to do everything possible to save my car. I even asked if I could pay the difference out of my pocket and they said no. What kind of insurance company says "no" to their valued customers? I told them I wanted to think about what I'm going to do. On Thursday, I thought about what to do.

Then, on Friday morning, at 8:30 am, my phone rings and it was the Progressive agent handling my claim. She told me, "We could have had you return the rental yesterday although we're going to only cover it until Monday." I asked, "What do I get around in after Monday?" The answer I got was appalling, "That's not our problem!"

So I went to their office on Friday to talk to a supervisor. They told me I have to call the agent that was handling my case. I went into a meeting room and called her. I really didn't want to talk to her and I asked to talk to her supervisor. She then transferred me. I talked with the supervisor for 2 hours. I told her that I have been dealing with a very rude lady that is handling my claim and I have been a member with them since 2007. This is not the way they should treat customers. I told her what I wanted for my car. She said she couldn't do anything to help me.

When I asked about my diamond level status, she told me that the diamond is one free accident that will not affect my driving record. I felt as though Progressive is doing so much wrong that I told her, "The right thing to do is to fix my car and assure me that everything is going to be okay--not to tell me that your car is totaled and be lucky we're letting you keep the rental car until Monday." She said, "I'm sorry. I can extend the rental only until Wednesday."

I told her that the right thing for me to do right now is to take car of the rental as though it was my own car. The wrong thing to do is to get in the rental, pick a target and see how much damage I could do. Pay the $500 deductible, let Progressive insurance deal with a $20,000-plus accident. Then, the next day, cancel my policy with them - never touching my driving record due to my diamond level status.

She then punches some numbers and gives a check for $4,417, which is more than what it would have cost to fix the car in the first place - $4,300. I wish I could put a picture up of my car for everyone to see. I asked the Progressive lady if she could have them gather all my belongings out of the car and send them to me - paperwork, shades, CD, seat covers, steering wheel cover, loss change, all keys, and everything that wasn't out of the factory. She said yes.

It is now June 22. I got the package that is supposed to have all of my personal belongings from my car in it. All that was in it was my seat covers and a mechanics rag. Now, I'm having to try to locate my personal belongings again. I was going to add my fiance to my policy as soon as we got back from vacation. After the way she saw them treat me, she wanted nothing to do with Progressive.

As soon as I got a new car, I canceled my insurance polices with them and switched to a better provider. I'm in the service industry and after the way your company treated me, I'll never have anything nice to say. Progressive will not only lose two customers for life, but many more. In my field of work, the customer is the most valuable asset. Without them, you can't pay your bills and put food on your dinning room table. First it was the non-stop calls to my sister who was in so much pain from the accident. Sure, she weighs under 100 pounds and was hit from behind. The car didn’t have too much damage, but her body did. Progressive kept calling her literally every day. On top of that, the lady wanted to meet up with my sister face to face. Who has time to do this sort of thing? And why is it important to do that anyway? It started to feel stalkerish with the calls and wanting to meet up.

People have lives and have to work and my sister was in pain and it made it difficult to work. Long story short, Progressive is now saying that they may not pay for my sister's medical bills because she chose not to meet with them. Even with valid medical notes from the doctor or PT, they said they may have reason to refuse payment. So while our good State Farm Insurance paid, Progressive is trying to find ways to chicken out of paying for the sole reason they gave her - which was because she didn’t meet face to face with them. This is ridiculous!

The stereo doesn't work now, which was working when I dropped it off, but of course, the stereo is now not working as soon as I picked it up. It is all just a big coincidence. What a crock.

Please, whatever you do, do not take your vehicle here for any type of repair. The shop they sent it to isn't even registered with the BBB! This is what we get from an insurance company we have been with for almost 10 years and never had a claim?! Stay away from Progressive service centers, they purposefully tell shops to use non-OEM/used/refurbished parts and could care less what happens to your car. They will also still charge you as if the shop did a top quality repair! The guys working there are not repair/automotive trained personnel. They are there to do the paperwork and get the cheapest local shop to do the minimum repairs on your car while still charging you as if they are from a real dealership or auto body shop.

We made this mistake by not researching it before we agreed to them to handle our repair for us because it would be "so convenient". We were 2+ weeks without a car, got it returned with a goofy-looking front end full of crap parts and our premium stereo is no longer functioning. Thank you Progressive for service befitting a longtime customer! I'd rather pay more somewhere else than give them another $1.

I hit a sign with my truck and called Progressive. They sent me a tow truck that picked my truck up and ran my company trailer into the sign 3 times, incurring damages of $2900. I called Progressive and filed a claim. I was told by the claims rep that I would get a call next day. The claims rep called and sent me an email that I couldn’t download. I called the claims rep back 7 times. All I got was an answering machine. I left a message explaining how I needed the file format changed. I got no call back. One week and 3 days later, I called and complained. I got a call back and was told they needed me to go get an estimate, take pictures, sign and send an email back. I explained by email that I couldn’t download the email. I got a reply that the email was not an attachment. The next day, I got an email saying that due to my not responding to what Progressive wanted, the claim would be closed. I called in anger and explained to another claims rep what happened. She sent me to another claims rep that changed the format and I was told that the lady in which I had talked to closed my claim and left to vacation and wouldn’t be able to do my claim till the following Tuesday.

On Tuesday, I got a call and was told that my claim was sent to Agero’s roadside. Roadside called and said they would be back in contact in 1 to 3 days. I waited till the third day after 1:00. I called them and was told I would be called in 3 hours. I waited until 4:50. I got an answering machine. I called 3 times and there was no call back. I called the Progressive claims rep back and was told she did her part and she would call roadside again. Until now I am losing customers. I'm losing my company. Any lawyer wants a job? Call me at **. Leave me a message or I will not call back. I am ashamed to tell people that Progressive is my insurance now. I will have to apologize to everyone I've bragged to about my insurance. An additional note to the information I provided previously. I talked to the person in charge of this claim, Greg ** in Knoxville, who was quite smug and arrogant. He told me the other driver said he had his lights on and that he saw me but did not have enough time to get out of the way. I reminded him again that I stated the other driver did not have his lights on. He said, "Can you prove that?" I asked if the other driver could prove he did have them on. I told him the first thing the other driver said when I asked him if he saw me, was "no".

So the claims person for my insurance company paid for a claim they should not have paid for, took the word of someone not insured with them and penalized their own client. Wow! So this claims person not only cost his company money, but alienated their own client. On top of that, he was rude and arrogant on the phone to me and refused to change his decision. Just like a man, cannot admit when they are wrong. I have never heard of a claims person putting fault on their own driver in a No-Fault accident.

If you look at the point of impact, corner to corner bumpers, you can see it was dual fault. There is no way I could have seen the other driver without his lights on and there is no way to tell how fast he was driving. I am so shocked that Progressive allows this claims person to cost them money, even though it was only $800, and he completely screwed their client. Wow, what kind of company is this? Not a good one to do business with! Find another company, as someone said, they have cute ads, but lacking in every other aspect. If they wouldn't spend so much money on TV advertising and lobbying, they might be able to take care of their clients better.

I was involved in a "no fault" accident in January 2012. The policeman said it was no fault and it happened in a parking lot. Normally, no fault means that each person's insurance company pays for the damage to their client's vehicle. The claims person from Progressive, my insurance company, played phone tag for weeks. I always had to leave a message for him, no matter what time of day; and it would never be until at least the next day before he called me back. I left him a brief message as to what happened and never heard another word until I got my renewal notice stating I was charged with the accident and my premium doubled. Excuse me?

At the time, I did not even know there was damage to my vehicle, because it was dark and we didn't see it. There was a scratch on the other car's bumper, only a scratch. My vehicle has a concave corner at the bumper - more damage than the other car - and I did not report it, because I didn't know it was there until months after. I was in a parking lot and was backing up. It was dusk, almost dark and raining hard. The other car did not have his lights on, and there's no telling how fast he was going.

It's corner to corner impact and very light as well as causing very little damage. And Progressive charged me, put 3 points on my insurance, and doubled the premium? They know that in doing this, they have me totally screwed and I cannot get insurance with anyone else. Very fishy. If they paid a claim for the other vehicle, then they are really stupid. No one ever talked to me, inspected my vehicle, or communicated anything with me. So how was it determined I was at fault? I have had friends tell me I should change and that I was paying too much and should have listened. Bad company. Stay far away from Progressive.

I have a wrecked 1995 truck with a damaged passenger door. Progressive totaled it, and we all agreed that a 95 truck in average retail condition was $7,125. With a $1,000 deductible, I expected a check for $6,125. They called and said the truck had a blown head gasket and was worth only $3,800. They said they could tell it was blown from the photos. Yes, they said from the photos. After I turned it over to my attorney, they cut me a check for $2,116 made out to me "only". They knew there was a lien on the truck and were trying to get me to take the money and run. When questioned where they came up with their number, they produced a "Prior Existing Damage Report," wherein they were taking every normal dent and ding (that made it in "average" retail condition); and they were deducting full retail cost to fix every one of them. Strange, but the document number on the bottom of this report was a combination of the claim number and date and time it was created. You know, it just happened to have been created the same day they cut me the bogus check and the day they were notified my attorney was involved.

When these tactics didn't work, twice they told me the claim had "to be settled today" or they'd tow the truck back to me at my expense. Then they had their "independent" appraiser appraise the truck as to its value before the damage. He came up with less than $800. And no surprise, he had the same things wrong with the truck as Progressive, and it was obvious from the numbers on the bottom of his "appraisal" that he used the same software. Hmmm. After my attorney filed suit, they immediately settled the claim for the correct amount, paid the attorney $1,000, and reimbursed me for the filing fee. Actually, I've hit only the high points here. They pulled much more than I have noted here. Had I listed everything, we could have turned it into a book that the whole insurance industry would use. It would be titled "How to Screw Your Policyholder."

Finally, I've run across many, many people, who have had a similar experience with Progressive. I found one who was satisfied with the settlement. That person just happened to be an attorney. Yep, an attorney. By the way, notice that I said at the top that the passenger door was damaged. That's all the damage there was. I'm convinced they decided it was cheaper to total the truck and screw me on the settlement than it was to fix it. And, when all was done and over, Progressive didn't even claim the truck. I had it towed home, fixed the door, and am still driving it.

On 3-3-12, I was on my pontoon boat with two friends going into the Intercoastal Waterway from St. Joe Bay when we passed through some seagrass. The engine overheated and I shut the engine off. I checked the oil and it was okay. I then checked the water pump belt and it was okay. I raised the outdrive and it was covered with seagrass, which had covered the inlet water ports cutting off the water supply to the engine and causing the engine to overheat. We removed the seagrass, let the engine cool down and restarted the engine. The water temperature showed normal temperature, but the engine was making a funny sound. So we decided to return to the boat ramp. On the way back, the engine backfired several times and then shut off.

When I contacted Progressive Insurance, they informed me that if I took the boat to a certified marine mechanic and have the engine torn down and they could not find anything mechanical that would cause the engine to overheat the Insurance, company would pay to have the engine repaired. They could not find anything mechanical that would cause the engine to overheat. They did find the head gasket blown. They claimed that the blown head gasket was the reason the engine overheated. But two qualified marine mechanics with over 70 years of combined experience stated that the overheated engine caused the head gasket to blow and damage the engine. The only time an agent looked at the engine, he (Scott) told the mechanic that he could not find anything mechanical wrong with the engine. He did point out some seagrass on the outdrive. He called me later and left a message on my answering machine that he saw rust and build up in the water jacket and that is what caused the engine to overheat and that was what he was going to put in his report.

That was untrue because the boat had only been in salt water a couple of times and the water jacket was almost perfect. I have pictures proving that. The next phone call I received from Progressive was from another agent named Kristian **. He left a message on my telephone that my claim had been denied because the head gasket had blown (now I have two different insurance agents who cannot agree on what caused the engine to overheat) and that is what caused the engine to overheat. I tried calling him several times, but he did not answer his phone nor would he return my calls.

So I called his supervisor (Diana **) and told her what had happened and that he would not return my phone calls. She said she would look into it and get back with me. A few days later, she called and left a message that she was going to stay with the original decision. I tried to call her and she did not return my calls. I called the insurance commission’s help hotline in Tallahassee. I told them what happened and they told me to send all the information I had and they would send Progressive Insurance a letter. They later sent me a letter telling me that Progressive Insurance had denied my claim again. They said there was nothing they could do and that I should contact an attorney, but the closest attorney that I can find is over 80 miles away.

I have two signed statements from qualified marine mechanics with over 70 years of combined experience. I have signed statements from the two people that were on the boat with me, plus my own signed statement. I also have pictures showing that the water jacket was clean. I sent all this information to Progressive Insurance Company and to the insurance commission in Tallahassee. Today’s date is 5-1-12 and my boat has still not been repaired. I will have to pay the repair bill myself. Mark it up for Progressive Insurance, they have refused to pay another claim and it looks like they will get away with it again.

I wouldn't even give them one star if it was an option. Let's start with saying that at the time of purchase of my insurance plan, I was informed that paying every 6 months would be cheaper than every month. So once every six months, I'll receive a phone call telling me it was time to pay again. This past time, I had not received a phone call so a payment was not made on time. One day after the required pay time, I was in an accident where a drunk driver had hit me as I was making a turn. We both stopped and switched information. He was gone within five minutes after the collision happened. Not even enough time for an officer to show up. The next day, I called Progressive to file a claim and they informed me that they would not cover me because I did not have coverage at the time of the accident.

May I remind you, it was one day late! Needless to say, they are not an insurance company that I would recommend for someone who would like a caring, respectful, polite company. They may have many "deals" to offer, but absolutely, no compassion! Then two months later, I was in a parking spot with nothing but the AC on and a woman trying to pull in next to me hit my rear tire extremely hard. We also exchanged information, hers also being Progressive and I called to file this claim as well. The next day, I got a call back saying that Progressive would not cover the accident under her policy because she was an excluded driver and then proceeded to tell me that in order to get my car fixed, I would have to pay 250 dollar deductible!

Progressive used Domestic Violence situation to cancel policy - I was in an abusive relationship that I was finally able to break off and had to sign up for new car insurance because of problems I was having with the one at the time. So I answered all the questions and never placed his name on the application as a driver since he wasn't living at our address anymore. He was on the previous insurance and I had even gone as far as delaying when it was to go into effect, so he was covered by insurance at the time. Our landlord has records of everything that had been taking place and there is a clause in our rental agreement that if one of the renters could not afford to stay there, they needed to find a reasonable replacement for a roommate. He didn't care, so he didn't bother finding a replacement. He has no job, unemployment and all he does is go on the internet playing games.

All this started back in November. Then I had a medical emergency and was out of work for 12 weeks. Since their policy says that you can have another driver drive your car, I didn't think it was a problem. I didn't want to scare my family, so I called him for help. I even told the agent that he drove the car 3 times after the policy was in force and had to help take care of me at home since I was now disabled and couldn't take care of myself, but he was still not a resident at this address.

The only time he was allowed to drive my car was when I was present, so I knew how many times he drove since I was bedridden during the entire time. During that time, my children's grandparents, godfather and my daughter took over taking the kids to school for me so that they didn't miss. Now, that I had recovered where I can somewhat function, he officially left and even told the landlord that he was moved out as per before since I was paying all the bills and his name couldn't be changed unless I release him from all the money he owes me for the rental agreement.

I work 3rd shift and I wasn't feeling so well, so I went to bed early on April 20. When I woke up, he was in my apartment with the kids and I wanted to know why he was there. He said he wanted to see the kids and there was something he needed to tell me, but he couldn't remember. I figured the kids let him in, so I didn't think anything of it. I told him he could stay since it was my late night start time. So I woke up and he said the same thing about telling me something, but he couldn't remember. I got ready for work and ran down to my car and found that there was a big dent in the side like he wrapped the door around the pylon separating the parking spots. I called it in to the insurance right away and explained everything to them and that he took my car without permission and used a set of keys that he was not supposed to have. At that time, I also informed them that the situation was a domestic abuse so the rental lease is a little different because of what had taken place as a result of the abuse.

They said that there would be an investigation. So I had given them the information for the landlord so that they can confirm everything I had said. Now, here we are 10 days later and being told that I committed fraud when I signed up for the initial policy for not adding his name as a roommate. Why add the name of someone who was kicked out for not being able to pay his bills? Now they are refusing to pay the damages on my car, which is over $2000, and they are cancelling my coverage due to fraud and misrepresentation. I called him and asked him what he told them and he said that he was driving all this time, but he didn't live here and told me, “Good luck getting me to pay for the bill or having me arrested.” So now I was not only hung out to dry again by my ex, but now Progressive has also empowered him to continue the abuse and make my life more difficult being someone who has disabilities. So in the end, Progressive has no problems with assisting the aggressor in domestic abuse and punishing the disabled.

On 2/13/12, I was hit head-on by a party driving the car of an insured for the Progressive Insurance Company. The other driver was cited for no headlights by the Modesto Police Dept. and she was determined to be at fault for causing this accident. No one has seen the vehicle until she was in my headlights. I have also suffered major injuries caused by this auto accident occurrence. On 4/18/2012, I received a letter form Progressive Insurance which states, "We have completed the liability investigation and determined that their insured is not responsible for damages." I called the (800) number on the letter then was transferred to the 4712 Stoddard, Modesto office to the manager, **. I then told him that I was confused about the letter saying the claim was closed. How could they close the investigation without even talking to me? I also asked him if they even received a copy of the police report. I have been calling and leaving messages for a month. The claims has been calling me and leaving messages, but not returning my calls until days later, so I never got the chance to speak to anyone until that day with **.

He then proceeded to tell me that he was not going to be respecting the police report, and has closed this based on his own facts that he has gathered from the insured. I really did not know what to think after that statement, and decided to take the advice of the letter sent by Progressive that says to make a complaint with Consumer's Affairs if you do not agree with this. I informed my insurance company, State Farm, and sent them a copy of the letter. My insurance could not even believe the Progressive's reaction to this claim. The woman who hit me was driving without headlights at night and speeding. She did not even slow down when she hit me head on. I was waiting to make a left turn, and the she did not veer off to the right as you would have to in order not to enter into the left turn lane.

The police report clearly states that the fact that she was driving without headlights was the cause of the accident. She was cited. We are all very lucky to be alive including the children in her car, as to which I was holding the 7-year old and the driver behind me was holding the infant. The driver behind me took them out of the car and, by God's grace, the children were okay. The driver was yelling into her cell phone, and was not even asking how her children were. The police report states that she was emotional, which was very mild description of her behavior. Her car landed on top of the sidewalk, and very fortunate that no one was walking there. My car never left the turn lane. Even after the impact, I was spun around to face the car directly behind me. I kept control of my car. She was not paying attention and did not apply brakes. She actually hit the gas. She did not leave her car at all, even after the children were outside, not even ask how the kids are but continued to talk and yell into her cell phone until the police arrived.

A complete investigation was done by the police department, which Progressive Insurance, Mr. ** told me he is not going to be respecting and without talking to me; and has used his own conclusions to close this case. I have seen Progressive Insurance commercials on TV, and thought that this Insurance should be handling case better than this according to their advertisements. I am bewildered.

I brought my car to Progressive after having been rear ended by one of their policy holders. I dropped it off on 3/15/12 with the understanding that they were going to replace the bumper and detail the interior of my car due to coffee stains resulting from the accident. I was asked to pick up my car on the 23rd. When I went there, the associate informed me that the bumper had been replaced and that she was giving me a $50 check to have the remaining detailing done. She stated that the majority of the car had been detailed, but that they had finished the trim molding around each door. I told her that didn't sound right and that I'd like to see my car.

During inspecting the work, I noticed that several holes, one over an inch in size had been burnt into my seats and then covered with some glue substance. I pointed it out as well as commented that the seats actually looked dirtier than they had when I left it. She agreed and then proceeded to look at the pictures of my car that had been taken at the shop with me. Some of the photos show wearing of the interior as should considering it's a '08 model, but she agreed with me that they by no means depict holes. I told her I wouldn't accept my car back and that I expected the damaged to be repaired.

A few days later, I was called and informed that no such repair would be completed and that from that day forward, I would be charged daily for the retail as well as them housing my car. I went in to review the pictures with the claims manager Scott and he said that he wasn't going to repair the damage because the pictures show wear and tear. I checked the date of the "time stamped" photos and they were taken 3/19/12, a full 4 days after I gave Progressive my car. Scott said he'd submit it to his claims dept who as of today, 4/13/12, refuses to do any repairs regardless of the fact that the pictures they have show no visible holes.

After a month, I checked my policy online and found out that they removed my husband under insured drivers and put him under "other" as "never licensed" without our knowledge. That’s how they gave me "deep discount" by removing him under insured driver. Again, this was without my knowledge. I talked to three different people and got three different answers.

While stopped at a red light, another car rear ended mine. The other driver was charged with the accident. At the time we had Progressive Insurance (10 years). They would not even pay the full amount to fix the car, also claimed that the other driver had no insurance, which put the cost of the deductible on us. After that, we were fed up with Progressive and went with another insurance company. While getting the other insurance, we were told that the same accident is on my record and we will have to pay more monthly for that even though the other driver was charged with the accident and was responsible. We know it was Progressive who did this because we canceled their insurance. Also, the new insurance company told us this is very hard to remove from your record and will have to pay more for the next 3 years because of it! How can this be legal?

Contacting Progressive for home insurance was one of the worst experiences of my year. After several long phone calls and emails with Kevin **, I was issued a policy and I cancelled my former policy with a local firm. Then Teri **, an assessor from Millennium Information Service, Inc., came to the house. Her report resulted in cancellation of my policy by email. So much about the way I was treated, and the process itself was either wrong or just sloppy. I believe if I were inclined to consult my lawyer about it, he might advise further action. I will not pursue it, mainly because I am utterly fatigued and fed up with Progressive. Some of the assessor's comments were warranted and were part of my rehab plan for the summer (trees too close to house, for example).

But she thought it relevant to write that "there is a spider's web in the side doorway" (They actually are the faded marks of an old hornet's nest) and that "paint is chipping off the garage." Does every home insured by Progressive/Homesite have perfectly new paint? How does that have anything to do with insurability of a home?

I spent a great deal of time with Kevin **, going over the property from a recent property assessment. He knew this is a country home in the woods. There are hornets, there are spiders, and there are even flies. Ms. Teri also thought it important to report that "the electric meter is broken." The day before she visited, our electric company man came and took his reading as usual. I assure you the meter works perfectly well.

The report cancelling my policy has a coded item "major gutters missing". Neither Kevin nor Teri is aware, apparently, that it is impossible to put gutters on a sloping metal roof in an area with heavy snowstorms. My contractor had to laugh at that. The first snowstorm would rip the gutters down by the weight of the snow and ice. That is why in Vermont, perfectly new business buildings have signs in parking areas saying "Watch for falling snow and ice".

I was able, thank goodness, in one day to open a new policy with a local agent. Because of this experience with Progressive/Homesite, I will soon be cancelling my auto policy. Judging by the ratings websites out there, both the auto and especially the newer home insurance by Progressive are losing customers and reputation quickly.

The bitter ending was that they refunded my 6 months' premium twice. I thought I must have paid for a full year and I deposited the two checks. Then I got emails and phone calls which said "Sorry for the inconvenience" but that the second check will bounce and I should let them know if I am charged for it by my bank. They promise to pay me when the returned check charge comes through, even though this has the potential to tarnish my record at the bank. I exit laughing, because it is so typical of the inept nature of Progressive.

I had to chase him down to inform him that he hit me. It’s a miracle he didn’t kill because of his negligence. Amigos Trucking stated this was the 2nd accident that they have had in one week’s time. That in itself doesn't look good for this company. I filed a claim with their insurance company which is Progressive. The investigator rules in their favor stating they were not at fault. Amigos Trucking hit me, so I certainly do not agree with this at all. They are just trying to protect the driver’s CDL license, which he would more than likely lose, since this is clearly his fault.

Refusal to pay towing and storage - My 1998 Volvo S70 was totaled on September 14 of last year. The driver who caused the accident had state minimum liability that had to cover 2 damaged vehicles, resulting in my settlement being a thousand dollars less than Kelly Blue Book value. Three months had slipped by before my settlement check was delivered on December 15. I immediately deposited it into my credit union account and withdrew the money on December 19, when the hold was over. I wanted to grab that money because (redacted) with Progressive Insurance had threatened to stop payment on the check, as I was the reason they could not pick up my car from the body shop. I had refused to pay towing and storage.

Now, Progressive had instructed me to remove my car from storage early on. What they did not tell me at the time was that towing and storage charges were their responsibility. I would have let them have it towed to my house had they made the offer. That never happened. The body shop was not releasing the car until appropriate charges were paid.

Sure enough, the stop payment went through on December 21 and my account was debited for the amount of the check. It’s a standard practice with my credit union to honor a stop payment after an insurance check has been withdrawn in order to decrease insurance fraud. The money was returned to the credit union, and I was left high and dry, so to speak.

I want to point out that (redacted) with Progressive, at the time she hand delivered my check, told me that there were no additional funds to pay towing and storage because all the money was used up on the claims. I immediately called the owner of the body shop and handed the phone over to (redacted) so that she could explain the situation to him. I certainly did not have the funds to cover three months of storage.

Finally, on February 28 of this year, I filed a complaint online with my states Division of Insurance. Their investigation resulted in my settlement check being generated on March 14. And (redacted) left me a voice mail, apologizing for the delay, and informing me that she was mailing my check that day. A week later, I still did not have that check.

I called the analyst who was handling my complaint at Division of Insurance and told her what was going on. She contacted Progressives regional manager, resulting in another voice mail from (redacted) telling me that she was hand delivering a new check, and stopping payment on the check I never received. When that happened the following day, (redacted) told me that she had mailed the original check on the 14th and could not understand why it never arrived. She then said I should destroy that check if it ever came.

Returning home after depositing my new check, what should I discover in the days mail delivery but that mystery check that had somehow got temporarily lost. I opened the envelope, and sure enough, the check had the date March 14, 2012. Just one problem, the Pitney Bowes postage machine at Progressive included the date on the printed postage, and that was March 21, 2012. So, (redacted) was caught in her lie. She had purposely held my check and lied to me and the Division of Insurance analyst about it. I guess holding my check was her big get even for leaving Progressive in the lurch for the towing and storage fees. It took 6 months and help from the state, but I finally have my settlement check plus $61 accrued interest.

I filed a liability claim with them and tried to settle with them 19 months after my loss. I sent them a letter in January 2012 and the adjuster did not respond until late February 2012 with a phone call. In March, she sent me an offer and followed up with a phone call. When I reviewed the offer, it was low and offensive. I communicated with her in writing and she called back with another verbal offer of $250 more. I sent another letter stating that it was unacceptable. She called back today and Gaily said, "Your two year statute of limitations have ran out. There is nothing I can do on this claim". I spoke to her manager and he confirmed that Progressive's statute had ran out. I asked him how I would know that. He looked in his computer and said a letter was mailed to me on June 9, 2011 stating the statute.

Ironically, I have every letter they sent me but that letter was never received. Additionally, in the three recent phone conversations I had with the claims representative, she never mentioned the two year statute. No one has ever mentioned the statute. My not receiving the letter and no one mentioning the statute, make all of this convenient and favorable to Progressive. I did not know that a company could "dispose" of their obligation via running out the statue, not informing the client verbally or in writing. But their computer says there was a form letter generated but there is no proof of mailing. This is unacceptable and Progressive should not be allowed to get away with it.

I have heard very disturbing information from my insurance, Progressive, saying the police was not even called to the scene of the accident (there is a report that I faxed to both companies) and that I slid into his car.

He made it a point to tell my insurance company that he was a criminal attorney. Did that scare them? I believe no one wants to deal with the deductible—they just want me to pay. I don't see why I should pay when I didn't cause the accident. The other driver did and he even received the ticket. Why would I cause it when he slid into my lane and hit my car? If I caused the accident, I would have been in his lane and I would have received the ticket. I believe he knew exactly what he was doing when he told his insurance company he does not want them to pay. His name is Ralph ** from Arvada, CO. I can't afford my deductible, so how could I afford an attorney? This game obviously is for the wealthy. We would be better off not carrying insurance and saving the money to pay for the damage. This is what was told to me by a supervisor named Paula. I wrote the company many emails and apparently this supervisor, who is in the customer care department, did not have access to my emails and neither does her supervisor. The emails I wrote that had large implications with my policy rates went to their "internet team" but evidently they do nothing with them (i.e. you can write all you want and it would be all in waste).

I drive so few miles per year, about 1,000. I was never driving out late and never had a need in bad weather as I can stay home for more than a month at a time and I still walk 2 miles to the store to buy groceries even when I am insured. My credit score is in the top 1% of the country. My prior policy rate was $81 for 6 months. I let the company know they can see my vehicle parked 1/4 miles away from any road via satellite to see I am not driving it and I wanted to save a few dollars by walking instead of any driving for just less than the 31-day period that I am aware of that seems to make such a huge difference in car insurance premiums even though there is no good justification for it.

So my new rate would be $79 for 6 months if I didn't have a single day lapse. But if only one day would lapse (some people do not need to drive every day), I would be penalized $26. If a person doesn't drive one day and not be insured that one day, why are they charged $26? It makes no mathematical sense! But as the supervisor made clear, she is not concerned with mathematics. How could she ignore math when all the policy rates are dependent on math?

So I am stuck in paying for a $105 premium or play some stupid monkey game and get on another person's insurance policy for one hour and then apply online at Progressive to say I both have been insured in the past 31 days and am currently covered. Then, suddenly my premium goes to $88! Does everyone see the nonsense in this? I am a mathematician and am very capable of being an actuary to assess risk. There needs to be sensible persons involved in rate setting. I would try to do this, but you can be assured I would be knocked down if I tried to help society in this.

You all may view my contention on liability insurance in a chapter in my book "God Gave You a Brain: Use It!" People who have less expensive cars are forced to pay high car insurance premiums because other people decide to drive expensive cars. This needs to change as well. I provide a mathematical means to effect the needed change.

After over five months of driving around with the snapshot unit in my vehicle, I've just been informed that I don't qualify for the snapshot discount. I called a representative to ask for the reason as I am an extremely safe and road aware driver, with over 40 years of driving without anything more than an occasional parking ticket. I've never had an accident and drive approximately 5 miles to work, where my vehicle remains parked for 8+ hours, and then is driven home. As a musician, there are occasions when I drive home from a gig, which would explain the high risk portion of the tracking device, but that's not the reason that I was denied. The first person that I talked to proceeded to explain to me what the device tracks, and I politely let her know that I had already researched that online and knew that before I installed the device in the first place.

I told her that "Well then, one of your relatives is driving your car." Seriously? One of my relatives is suffering from dementia and the other can't walk due to back surgery. So where do the so called hard stops come from? My feeling is that the data is falsified to avoid offering the discount. While I appreciate the low rate, I don't agree with their findings. I'm a conscientious and safe driver and I never hard break because I constantly anticipate the traffic as I drive. That's all I have to say. Other than that, I'm disappointed in Progressive's response as well as the erroneous data this device seems to collect.

The key problem: I found my insurance price that the Progressive confirmed to me lately much more expensive than the price I heard from the car dealer, who introduced the insurance and mediated for me to pay my insurance fee to Progressive first. The Progressive agent took the broker fee $347 I paid to the dealer on February 17 by relying upon the dealer's deceptive mediation without letting me know the facts.

I went to the Paragon Honda, which is located in Woodside, NY, with a friend of mine on February 17. I bought a Honda CR-V and contracted the Progressive insurance.Due to the absence of my US bank account and credit cards, I paid by cash for the car and the insurance. -The car dealer suggested me to contract the insurance (Progressive) with a good deal. My friend asked him to wait until we can compare Progressive with other insurances she has known.

He gave all my information (my driving history in NY, social security number, etc.) to Progressive and suggested me to take it, because it offers a good contact that can be much cheaper than other insurances. The price he suggested was $1100 for one year after the future step that I give my bank account information to the Progressive after I open my bank account later.

During the initial contact, Progressive didn't give me any documents that show an estimate of my insurance price. The car dealer just gave me the Progressive agent's name (Susanna) later to find out how to pay off my insurance fee. He asked me to pay $590.38 by cash for the half of $1100, and he gave me two receipts (one for the broker fee $367 with the agent's signature [Susanna] and another for the initial payment fee $223,38). But I came to know later about this fact that part of the insurance payment went for the agent broker fee, and he never told me about this fact clearly and appeared to get it done very quickly. He suggested me to call Susanna to make sure when I pay for the remaining balance after I open my bank account.

It took two weeks for me to know my current problem, finally due to the following circumstances below. It's taking a week to open a bank account after getting my ID from my current workplace required for opening my current account. Having received several emails to ask me to confirm my insurance policy after contacting Progressive and taking a week to struggle with the Progressive web-system because somehow the Progressive had wrong information (address and birth date) about me, so I couldn't find my insurance content. It's taking two weeks to fix car problems (scratches and ripped leather).

Since last week when I found my problem, I have appealed to Progressive by email by telling the whole story, but I haven't received any appropriate answers from them. The Progressive confirmed the fact by email that my insurance price is about $1159 only for six months, and I will take my next payment from my bank account automatically. Unexpectedly, I have to pay as double now.

Lately, I met the car dealer in person and spoke about this problem on March 6, 2012. I asked him to let me know about the car insurance price he heard from the Progressive agent first. He said that the price was the same as what I knew first. When I asked him to call the Progressive agent who took care of my payment. He tried to avoid the situation by saying that he could find out after speaking to the agent later.

I just purchased my new Benz 2 months ago, and it was a nightmare with those auto insurance companies. I was with Geico before I purchased my Benz, and the reason I want to change my insurance company is that, Geico raised my fees by about $400, from my 2007 Lexus RX350 to 2011 Benz 300, and is now about $2,500.00 a year. I started to shop around for a new policy, and the cheapest and the worst insurance company is 21st Century, at around $1,700 a year. The day I purchased my Benz, I have waited for it for 6 hours at the Benz dealership, just for 21st Century to fax a correct insurance ID card. I have called 6 times (same person answers, so they only have one owner and one employee? ). They have faxed it 6 times in 6 hours. They have faxed the card with a wrong date or wrong VI number for five times. I cancelled this insurance in the next 3 days.

Before I cancelled, I called and talked to a person from the insurance company. I did some comparison, and I went with Progressive, since they do so much commercial on TV, I thought they should be okay. I bought auto insurance with Progressive over the phone. The agent told me the total of the premium is $2067.00 a year, and asked me if I would like to pay for 6 months or the full amount, and I chose to pay for the full amount. After that, I went to their website to check out their snapshot, and I applied for it (you really think is going to save your money? Don't be fooled). I tried their snapshot .

After trying the snapshot (it took about one month). I have received an email from progressive, to return the device, so I went to their website, Progressive.com, to double check the policy’s details again, and I found out that the money I am paying for is only for 6 months. I was shocked, so I called Progressive and asked them if there is a mistake. I asked the agent to double check, and the agent I spoke with is very nasty, and has a very bad attitude. She didn't even help me to look into why I have been charged double, compared to other insurance companies, and answered me right away, saying that is the price of my policy. I cancelled the policy on the same day, and I went with Liberty Mutual, with an annual premium of a little over $1,900.00. They have good and fast service, and very friendly agents, at a very fair price. If anyone has the same problem with Progressive, please report them.

We have been with Progressive for over five years without making a single claim. We bought a 2012 Kia Sorento back in August 2011 and had full coverage placed on it. Every month without fail, our insurance payment was auto-drafted from our account. We moved to Colorado in December and of course updated our info, or so we thought. We received a cancellation notice on February 3, so we immediately called Progressive and were told it was due to non-payment. Our bank info had not been updated, so my wife gave the CSR our updated info and even asked if there was anything we needed to do to be fully insured as the bank owns the car. We were assured not only that we were covered but also that we should disregard any additional cancellation notices.

On February 19, our scheduled autodraft payment date, our payment was received confirming that we were in fact still policy holders. My wife then rear-ended someone on February 28, 2012. We made two calls to Progressive that night, were given a claim number and had our vehicle towed to a repair shop. Next morning, my wife called to verify our deductible and just prepare for the adjuster when she was informed that our policy had been cancelled due to a garaging issue. Basically meaning our address on file hadn't been verified. I asked how did they attempt to contact us, their answer, "We sent a letter," to the address that supposedly wasn't verified. When I asked about the payment that was taken out, their only response was, "We're working to have it credited back to your account." So had we not had this accident, how long would they have continued to draft money from a bank account belonging to a supposed cancelled policy holder? This is ridiculous. Now, we can't even get a clear cut yes or no out of them. They might all be crooks out there but Progressive will not get one red cent of our hard-earned money ever again! Buyer beware!

We repaired the roof ourselves because if you've gotten an estimate for that sort of thing, it's really expensive especially if your insurance company wigs out about paying for it. My husband bought the canned rubber that you roll on and spent several weekends getting it finished. A year later, there was a wind storm/tornado that ripped through our town and ripped the front of the roof off like a sardine can causing complete water damage and complete and total destruction of the inside of the RV.

They denied the claim again saying that we didn't get the roof professionally fixed so we couldn't prove that the damage was current. It was fresh damage and you could definitely see that the roof had been fixed because the rubber had been blown off. Both of them have Progressive, my husband has been contacting them regularly since he can not open the boot of the car and the response he gets is that they have not been able to contact the other party and they have to wait until they get the report since they can not determine who is at fault.

Sorry, but my husband is calling on a regular basis and the other party is not responding, it is not rocket science to determine who is at fault. It has been a week and we have not heard from anyone in Progressive. My mom has State Farm and was in a similar situation as my husband, the same day of her accident, an agent from State Farm contacted her and gave her the details of where to take the car; within a week her car was fixed. My advice -- do not get Progressive. I will definitely not be renewing my insurance with them.

On December 27, 2011, a young man who was properly insured by Progressive made a left turn in front of me at an intersection and hit me head on. A police report was filled out and both of us had insurance, he with Progressive and me with American Family. My insurance company filed a claim for me against Progressive's driver. At which time, Progressive did an eligibility investigation on the young man. This is after he already had insurance and had the accident and determined that his application had been falsified in some manner and they canceled his policy, leaving both of us to fend for ourselves.

It would seem like Progressive should have done a background check on their applicant before issuing him insurance and turning him loose on the streets to cause mayhem. Poor kid thought he had insurance but didn't. Luckily, my under-insured motorist insurance covered my medical and compensated my loss in its entirety (my car was totaled) so I came out okay but I sure feel sorry for that poor kid who thought he was covered by Progressive. I love American Family Insurance and my agent who is now my BFF.

I purchased boat insurance from Progressive over a year ago. I hit an underwater rock pile in January of 2012 and destroyed the lower unit (transmission) and cause a hole in the power head (engine). Well, I filed a claim with Progressive. The adjuster stated that they would pay for the lower unit ($1,400) but not the power head ($7,000). The power head was only two years old.

He stated that after the mechanic tore the engine apart, he could not feel any oil in the block. I explained to him that I ran the engine for over an hour in my yard with the water connected. It ran okay but the lower unit made a noise when I put it in gear. The engine (01 Mercury Optimax 200HP) is computer controlled and the computer stopped working when the collision occurred.

The mechanic and I both stated in the recorded conversation that the engine had over revved and this could have caused the engine to stop oiling. The oil canister was nearly full. The boat ran perfect before the accident with no warnings of anything. As a matter of fact, the engine will crank and run now.

The adjuster stated that it was really two claims requiring two $500 deductibles. That's ridiculous, how can one accident cause two claims? How can you pay for one part of the engine and not pay for the power head. The adjuster stated that he had never seen this happen before and that someone had to prove to him that the accident caused the engine blow up. It’s obvious the accident caused the computer to stop oiling if the lower-unit was hit hard enough to destroy it.

I will never, ever purchase anything from these crooks again. I've filed a complaint with the State Insurance Commissioner. This company should be banned from selling insurance in all 50 states.
