My car has a prior salvage title and was damaged by the 5/22/2011 tornado in Joplin, MO. I live 2 blocks from areas that were completely wiped out. Progressive decided to total my car due to the prior salvage title. They were initially only offering me $4800. Because I am disputing the amount they have offered me, they discontinued my rental and left me and my daycare business without a vehicle that is safe for the kids to ride in due to the back glass being shattered (but held in place by window tint and could fall out at any given moment).
On Thursday (6/9/11), I received a call an hour after mentioning that I would be getting a lawyer, and was told that they would change the value reduction due to the prior salvage title from 42% to 35% and waive the $500 deductible bringing my new settlement up to $6000. My vehicle is worth $11,600 according to NADA. My husband's bank printed out something stating the value is approximately $11,000-11,500. A dealership printed out a black book value stating the value between $10,500-11,000. They are just not budging! Please help!

My wife was stopped at a four-way stop area, when a lady talking on the phone slammed into her. Progressive denied that she had insurance with them; she claimed she did. When I spoke to one of Progressive's representatives, he asked me, "What the hell do you want me to do about it?" No resolution was ever reached.

Progressive Direct Insurance charges me more since retiring and no longer commuting 100 miles a week to work than they did when I was still working. I've been with them for 4 years and in that time, no accidents or tickets. I'm pretty sick of the bait and switch routine. They spend millions on slick ads promising low rates then jack your premiums up for no reason. Meanwhile, giving their employees bonuses during a recession which are paid for by us chumps.

My car was totaled during the May 22nd Tornado in Joplin Mo. I immediately phoned Progressive to report the claim. Five days later and they are the only insurance company that is missing from Joplin. They reported to me by phone that they will not be sending anyone to the area until the following Saturday - a full week after the Tornado. I have received no other calls from them and they still have my claim online listed as "open".

I canceled my insurance and went with esurance. They have sent $158.97 to Credit Collection Services after I canceled. In addition to that, Progressive told me I only had proof of insurance for 2 years. Esurance, who I now have a policy with, verified with Farmers who I had before, that my policy was current for six years. So, Progressive overcharged me for almost a year. I would like a refund of overcharges and the cancellation of the $158.97.

I have been with Progressive Insurance Company for more than seven years; however, I changed once but went back to them because I felt that it was more comfortable situation for my insurance needs. However, that was not the case at all. I am currently retired, living on disability with a fixed income receiving pay for a particular day of the month, so having my account drafted on a particular day is very important to me.
I have no points on my driving record, and was not aware of their high rates. I am paying more than $900.00 every six months. I was sent letters some are attached with this letter. I explained to the local office that my drafts were being returned because the draft date did not coincide with my or their draft date and I was told by Naomi, that beginning April 2011 my draft date, at my request could change by ten days which would make my draft date near the end of the month which would not have caused returned drafts.
My credit union said that because of so many returned drafts, they would cancel my entire account after more than twenty-five years with State Employees Credit Union, after I spoke with the manager, Steven ** who obviously didn't listen or hear anything I spoke with him about as to why the drafts were being returned, and he even ran me copies of bank statements that involved the returned drafts. Some of my return drafts were the fault of the Credit Union and I plan to address this issue to the proper authorities, because there was a complaint by me to Mr. ** concerning the manager at the Hope Mills Branch which caused a returned draft.
My Mother's name was on my Progressive Insurance about a year or more because of another situation where she was coerced into signing, rather than being the co-signer on a car, and this issue will also be addressed to other authorities. The automobile was repossessed at my request because my mother is eighty-eight years old and has never driven or plan to drive in her lifetime. I addressed this issue to Progressive, but it took over a year to remove her name because the local office said that as long as she is the co-signer, her name would remain on the insurance, and that is when I realized that they didn't hear or listen to me a year earlier when I informed them of the re-possession of the car. Things would be less difficult if people would just listen.
When I called the main office to ask why my draft was not changed, I was told that it would have to be September now because it wasn't done in April as I was told it would be, so I then received a letter stating that I had been over-charged on one of my statements. However, I don't know how much I have been overcharged, I was never given an amount. I received a cancellation notice, because this company hasn't heard or listened to anything I've said to them for more than a year.
Is it fair for me to lose my insurance because of people who should be in positions that they have knowledge of their jobs or one where Senior Citizens, like me, have to be concerned for our welfare because of situations like this should not be necessary in this emotional system?
This letter is the beginning of my many complaints that I haven't been, or had time for this because I chose to care for the elderly after my retirement, and I'm very proud that I did because they seem to be the invisible now. Please address this matter as soon as possible as my insurance is in the process of being cancelled again.

Progressive Insurance is one of the DRPs my shop does repairs for. In fact, we're on the concierge program, which should be illegal. Customers don't realize that when they sign up for the program, they are giving up their right to choose where their car will be repaired, how it will be repaired, and what type of parts will be used.
The adjusters that work at this location are complete morons. They are forcing our shop to repair damage that they recognize as being unrelated to the accident without compensation. The 'rule' they have set for us is, do it or get kicked off the Concierge Program. They are very biased toward a particular local body shop, which happens to be owned by an ex-progressive employee. When our shop is delivering cars, they will make us sit and wait for hours before they even look at our cars and then pick them apart.
While this other shop is being given the royal treatment, taking literally 5-10 minutes for their shop to deliver cars. The adjusters take one walk around this particular shops cars, and gives an okay to the car. They do not inspect at all. A local guy has launched a website, **, hoping to get more people in the collision repair industry to voice their complaints anonymously.
The thing is the people employed by the body shops, are so scared of losing their jobs, that they don't complain. I've joined the site and have voiced some of my concerns. We'll see, maybe it will pick up and individuals like the insurance commissioner, whom I've contacted twice, will actually take notice!
The Progressive Concierge Program is causing a very unfair shift in work flow. The number of redo's they are sending shops (due to unrelated prior damage or just the fact that it's the end of the work day, and they don't feel like delivering a car) is costing shops thousands of dollars. Body techs and paint techs pay has been more than cut in half as a result of this program, as they do not get paid for these unfounded redo's, so they are essentially working several hours a day for free. We now have techs losing their homes and everything they own as a result of the lack of income.

My 100% custom Dually got rear ended and massive damage shifted the hole truck to the left bent, messed up my air ride system and the alignment was way off. Additionally, the tail gate did not close, right lights did not work, bed of the truck hit the back of the cab of the truck and much more stuff wrong. The only thing Progressive fixed was the rear dint and the paint, anything under the truck they don't think they have to fix and was saying sorry we don't think that was related to the accident. All damage to the truck, they would say, "oh, that was there before." The air ride system never worked. My 180k tires put 200 miles on are now 100% bald but that's my fault as well.
I had to replace all the light bulbs in the truck because there was a crack in the rear light. Progressive saw the damage but told the shop not to fix it. But then, I have proved to them it was related to the accident. So they bought new rear lights, but all the lights that connect to it that blew out was my responsibility. The only thing they took care of is what they could see. To top it all, Progressive said don't fix it on the shop. I had to work around it. I found one of the shops and the guy told me straight out I was gonna fix it but Progressive did not want to pay me to do it. So people don't always blame the shop that fixes it, they have to do what the insurance company says.

In 2011, my vehicle was hit from behind while I was waiting at a stoplight. The other driver had Progressive Insurance. I immediately received three estimates for the damages from local body shops and did not file with my insurance company because my rates would go up even though the accident was not my fault. Progressive insisted I bring my vehicle to one of their local claims offices. I brought in my car and their estimate for repair was over $1,000 less than the average cost of repair according to the estimates. I told Progressive that their estimate was too low and did not cover the actual damages, but they refused to listen and sent me a check for that low estimate.
I filed a small claims lawsuit against Progressive for the difference between the check they sent me and the actual cost of repairs according to the estimates. We went to court and Progressive insisted that the driver needs to be in court. Now, the person that has been paying Progressive for insurance for God knows how many years is being dragged into court because Progressive refuses to pay for the full damages. Isn't that what insurance is for? Now, many months later, my car is still not repaired and I have wasted many days with bringing the car to their adjustor's office and sitting in a courtroom, and all I was doing was waiting at a stoplight.

I am very unhappy with the "service" I received from Progressive in Pasadena. Cinthia V ******** harassed, intimidated, and bullied me when I was trying to get my car fixed after I was rear-ended by a man who said he "didn't stop soon enough". Although this incident was not my fault and the burden would be on the man's insurance (Auto Club of So Cal), Ms ******** interrogated me for HOURS while I was trying to do my job regarding the extent of my damages. She called repeatedly to harass me - she told me I could handle my claim directly with Auto Club (then why do I have an insurance company? ); she raised her voice and several times implied that there was nothing wrong with me or my car.
My daughter suffered whiplash - for which she was treated and was in pain for several weeks; I had neck and back pain for which I was also treated; so I did not care to dispute whether or not there were "damages" with Ms ********; yet she continued to exclaim that nothing had occurred and that there were no damages and that I could handle my claim myself with Auto Club. She acted like a frustrated attorney-wanna-be and mishandled my claim. From then, the problems continued - until I requested that they transfer my claim to the Irvine Office.
I had to request supervisors and managers in order to have my claim transferred to the Irvine office (I live in Orange County - Irvine specifically). I spoke to a couple of representatives from the Pasadena office who were refusing to transfer my claim to the Irvine office until I was finally able to glean the name of their Regional Manager, Mr. David ********. I sent Mr. ******** a message via email and voicemail and have not heard from him to date; at this point, however, armed with the name of the Regional Manager, they said they would transfer my file to Irvine. I spoke to the manager in Irvine (Dania) and she was extremely helpful. Things seemed like they were going to be alright. My point, however, is that if I had been seriously injured and/or in the hospital, would I still be harassed, intimidated, bullied and told that I could handle my claim directly with Auto Club?? ?
My experience was so stressful and reprehensible yet no one has contacted me to discuss their philosophy at the Pasadena office. Finally, due to an error on the part of Progressive or Auto Club, they paid the car repair in full and sent me a check for the bumper repair. In February, they sent a letter from their subrogation department requesting I return those funds. At this time, I reminded them that they had not yet reimbursed me for the car rental I required while the vehicle was at the shop. Again, no response to my request from Progressive -this time from their Subrogation Department - regarding my rental expense of $346. So, I returned the overpayment minus my car rental expense and sent the check via Fed Ex.
I received a harassing call today from Catherine from the subrogation department - I told her I had been working with JD and would like to speak with him and was told that JD was not available and to let her know NOW what I had sent in the mail; I explained that I sent a check Fed Ex and there was a delay since I wanted to know what they were doing about my car rental expense and she repeated..."again...what did you mail"....over an over she would say this. She was very rude as well - condescending and disrespectful. I have been a Progressive customer for 4 years and have never filed a claim; filed a claim for which I was not my fault and was treated worse than a criminal. Then, they make a mistake in their accounting of payments for repairs and they are yelling at me.

Repair facilities Beware! We own a RV repair business that is mobile and do numerous insurance jobs and recently experienced the worst encounter with Progressive Insurance. The job was very extensive and time consuming. Communication was slow and phone calls not returned. The customer was informed by the adjuster that they should have taken it to a shop because they have the parts in stock.
This company did the he said she said game with the customer, causing conflict. We were not paid for the numerous trips and shorted on documented time because they have been to school and know all about repair time. You must provide a current invoice for all parts with a suggested retail or they will give you what they deem the retail and you will not like it.
If you do a job for this company, be sure to get your check before you start the job. The consumer should be aware that they may end up putting part of the bill when it is not covered by their assigned averages. By fa,r the worst claim experience filed with an Insurance company in the last 10 years. Even their so called "supervisors" are not helpful and do not return calls or follow up on an scheduled date. We are still waiting on the final payment that has been altered numerous times and is still very short. Frustrated!

I had a 3003 Dodge Ram 4x4 diesel with approximately $20,000 of aftermarket equipment installed. I have owned the truck since 2005. Just the past year, I have spent approximately $10,000 on maintenance; more specific, tires $1,800 and new bulletproof aftermarket transmission $5,000, etc. I loved my truck to death! It was my baby. My truck had been stolen three times. First time, they stole the wheels, stereo, etc. Probably a $4,000 loss (no comprehensive on truck, my mistake). The second time, they just took my personal items, the whole truck was intact. Simply a "joy ride" situation and was found the next day. The second time, I reported the truck to my insurance company but did not make a claim. Progressive still had the theft on my record, although they never paid any money out which kind of annoyed me. They didn't raise my rates, which I thought was good.
The third time was devastating. This time, they stripped the entire truck! They took $3,000 wheels and tires interior, stereo equipment and other parts that were not covered under insurance. Probably, $7,000 worth of accessories. This part was annoying. Basically, since insurance didn't pay for these items, I was out again even with comp coverage; not to mention the $5,000 transmission that was still in the truck! At first, I was very discouraged reading all the horror stories of insurance fraud investigators: Stopped payment checks on repairs, denial of claims, etc. I dealt with a lady name Taunya **, who works for Progressive as a Fire Theft Insurance Person. At first, I was frustrated due to the length of time she told me it would take. They requested phone records, interviews, financial statements, etc. I thought, all of this was kind of awkward, but delivered what they asked for without hesitation. I talked to people and they explained she was just doing her job, which I understood.
After doing research online, I came to find out there are people out there being arrested for stealing their own cars, setting them on fire, staging accidents, etc. that cost them millions of dollars! When it was all said and done, they declared that the truck is a total loss and even offered to sell me the truck with a salvage title. It was very tempting to buy the truck back, especially with the $5000 tranny still in it. They wanted too much for the truck for me to be able to put it back together. They paid me via check for the total loss, which I thought was a very generous amount. I will continue to use Progressive and was satisfied overall with the process. Taunya was very professional and timely with communications, and more than fair with the total loss. People have to realize that they are just doing there job and have a regimen that they have to follow in order to keep our rates reasonable. Just be patient and comply with what they ask for. I miss my truck everyday, but after losing so much money on accessories, I don't think I will own such a flashy vehicle that is so attractive to thieves. When I do purchase a new truck, I will make sure my aftermarket parts are insured.

I had a car accident on Jan 30,2011. Two cars were moving backward and there was a little bump. The person in charge of my case in my insurance company, Progressive, was reluctant to collect the information. Loraine was very reluctant to receive a diagram explaining the accident scene by fax. I asked her fax number and she told me a clear lie at that time that her fax was connected electronically so it would take more than two days to receive it. And she did not tell me her fax number. And she decided already it was 100 % my fault at that time.
I had to contact the claim grievance department of Progressive and I required Korean translator even though I could speak English. The first thing that I begged to the Korean translator was to tell me the fax number so that I could send the diagram. Loraine was still reluctant to receive the fax and she urged me to explain without the diagram. She insisted that I should use North , South, East and West to explain verbally without the diagram. How could anybody explain clearly the accident scene pointing out clear directions? Anyway I did it as she required and after a long talk I could manage to send the diagram by fax.
Some days later. I received a phone call from Loraine that finally it was decided and it was still my 100 % fault. I just listened and hung up the phone. But the next day, I received a phone call from an independent researcher of the accident. He asked me to make an appointment to take pictures of my accident car the next day. I found that Loraine had made a decision already before the investigation of the accident was still going on. So I called Loraine's supervisor Anthony *** to explain this awkward situation. He spend more than one day to investigate internally. He told me he would review the telephone record. Then I talked him again by phone if he clearly accepted there had been procedural mistakes in the decision.
And I asked him why his employee had been so strange and contacting the client. He told me he didn't know the reason. He apologized but he could not change the decision. He accepted his company's mistakes but the decision can not be overruled. He hinted the decision should be made according to the cost of decision not by the truth. I explained about the procedural defects and my rights but it was all in vain. So I am trying to contact his supervisor in Progressive. What I realized in this situation is that this company does not care about the client's right or benefit at all. Their concern is only their profit. They just want quick solution to save their cost. Progressive is a big company for me to handle. I think they already knew it and they just want to neglect one small customer.

My son and his girlfriend were involved in a hit-and-run car incident by a driver of someone insured by Progressive Auto Insurance. They were smart enough to get the license plates from the vehicle, as it fled the scene. The Chesterfield police were called, and a report was taken. The kids could identify him, because he initially got out of his car and told them to pull over to the side and he would pull over too. That is when he fled the scene.
The kids were shook up and were already complaining of headaches. They went to the Emergency Room and had x-rays along with CAT scans. Both were ordered by the doctor to stay home several days and were on pain meds. Ironically, the days after the accident, the pain impacted them significantly. Both were miserable.
We expected that when the hit-and-run driver was found, his insurance (Progressive) would cover the cost of the hospital bills and (hopefully) lost work also.I attempted to speak to someone in claims several times. After several calls and hours of research, I found the agent and made four attempts to call. His voice mail was full due to vacation. I called the Progressive claims number and was repeatedly told he was the only one who could help me. Once I was able to leave a message, I did, and he returned my call just to tell me the things he needed before offering a settlement. I told him we just wanted reimbursement for the hospital visit and missed days at work. He said he needed to have proof that the kids' insurance did not cover the accident and that if it did, how much it covered.
I sent him copies of the hospital bills, and he returned my calls, saying he needed more than bills--he needed reports to see if they were willing to pay the Emergency Room visit. The agent stated that my kids have to sign a release for all medical records and reports in order for them to check the validity and to check for any previous head or neck trauma. I've been going back and forth for a year now. The kids do not have health insurance that covered the accident. And now, I have a multitude of late fees and fines.
I thought the insurance company was supposed to take care of this. All I wanted was to get the money to pay the hospital and their missed work. At this point, I am so angry. If someone would please help me or tell me what I can do, I would be deeply appreciative. One more thing, I also sent a complaint email to their general claims complaint line. But I have been told they needed more information too: the insured's policy number, etc., etc. I'm ready to get my kids everything they are entitled to at this point--anything, pain, suffering, etc.

My daughter was rear ended by a policy holder of Progressive insurance on 10/28/10. The City of Fairfax Police issued the at-fault driver a citation as well. On the same day, I contacted my insurance company, State Farm, and reported the accident. State Farm instructed me to file a claim directly with Progressive, which I did. Claim #101643987. Approximately one week later, their adjuster came out and assessed the vehicle (a 1998, V70 Volvo station wagon) and gave an estimate of $6,990.54 to repair our auto. They also declared the vehicle totaled and provided a value valuation report with a Market Value of $2431.10 and had attached comparable vehicles as comps. The comps provided were, in my opinion extremely misleading and grossly inaccurate as I took the time to call each one and ask very basic questions with regard to the condition of their vehicle for sale. Here's what I found:
Auto 2 - Car had 2 owners and in was in an accident on Sept. 18, 2008.
Auto 3 - Does not exist in Auto Trader. Additionally this comp is in the Annapolis Md. area and not metro Fairfax VA.
Auto 4 in WVA - long way from Metro Fairfax and not comparable to what one would expect to pay in my area and when I called the person explained that the car had a bad turbo and was smoking.
On top of these ridiculously low comps, Progressive arbitrarily assigned a made up discount labeled "Projected Sold Adjustment" ranging from $160.48 to $668.19 making their payout completely unrealistic. When I questioned them with regard to the quality of these comps, there reply was: Scott, these are the closest comps we could find to your vehicle. If you can locate a 1998 Base Model vehicle showing the alloy/3rd seat option then you can certainly submit that for review.
In my observation Progressive is intentionally providing misleading information to me with the anticipation of not providing me with a fair and accurate replacement value as NADA rates this vehicle at $4,525 to $5,975. My Volvo was a one-owner vehicle with all the scheduled maintenance performed (have documentation) and no accidents. Again Progressive provided me with completely misleading comps that were nowhere near the condition of our vehicle. They also did not take into consideration the DMV costs of transferring, registering and paying sales tax on a new car. In my opinion, Progressive has misrepresented the actual cash value of the vehicle before the accident.
Additionally we are now into week two without a car and having to incur extra expenses for driving arrangements for our family. Not to mention the emotional distress their client put on my 17-year-old daughter when he recklessly plow into the back of our car. Therefore I would ask that Progressive reimburse me for the average NADA fair market value at a cost of $5,250. Or they can repair my existing car.

If your car has been involved in an accident, please take time to be your own adjuster first. Remember. You are the owner of the vehicle. If an insurance company demands that you have your car repaired at a shop they recommend (DRP Shop) and pretends they can force you, remind them that federal and most state laws prohibit insurance company steering.
They can only make a recommendation, not a demand. Anytime you take your car to an insurance company preferred body shop, there are a few things you should do first: (1) Ask if they have a written warranty for the workmanship. (2) Demand that you are contacted once the estimate is complete so that you can see the damages listed. (3) Demand genuine original manufacturer replacement parts (unless otherwise noted in your policy). (4) Once you have a copy of the estimate, take it and your photos to other shops and get a time quota. Again, you own the vehicle. Do not sign a repair order until you are satisfied with the repair details.

It has now been 3 months and I am still awaiting settlement of my claim. The most recent events are that we are to go to a deposition, to tell them, yet again! We did not do this! Nor did we facilitate it. We hate feeling like we are paying insurance to be investigated. I really hate how violated having a possession stolen can be, now our insurance is behaving like it's our fault. Honestly, I almost feel powerless, like there is nothing we can do to expedite this. I have signed over all my rights to the vehicle, yet I am still making all my scheduled payments. What the heck can I do?! Nothing, that's what! I just have to hope the judicial system works in my favor.

I just changed my homeowners insurance to Progressive "Homesite Insurance Company" in September 2010 after receiving a very good quote. Now October 2010, my bank receives a letter that the company is canceling my homeowners insurance. I called Homesite and they said it is because I need to replace the rotten shingles on my roof. OMG I have a slate roof in excellent condition. I told the woman that slate doesn't rot. She said, “Well, it is really dark in spots, are you sure it is slate?” “Yes, I am sure I have it inspected and repaired as needed.” I asked her, “Do you want me to clean it?” She checked with her supervisor and came back and said, “No, you need to replace the rotten shingles and then we will come out and inspect to rewrite the policy.” She still couldn't tell me which "shingles were rotten. I guess she just doesn't know that slate doesn't rot! I think it is a bait and switch deal and they want to raise the premium.

On May 30th 2009, my 2003 Ford Windstar was stolen out of a TJ Max parking lot. I called the Mecklenburg county police department and then notified Progressive Insurance. While going through the initial questioning, I was sent some paperwork that my husband and I had to have notarized and after which the nightmare started.
They had a special investigator question us, check phone records, financial statements, and even interviewed family members outside our household. We answered everything to the best of our knowledge only to find out our claim was denied 8 weeks later based on credit and the key having a transponder. We were devastated. Although we were financially challenged, we never missed a payment nor were we ever late on our policy.
Not knowing how to move forward with legal representation, we continued to pay the car note even though we no longer had the vehicle. 16 months later, we received a call from the bank that a dealership (Planet Suzuki) was trying to get them to release the title. They immediately called us and without hesitation, my husband called the police and went to retrieve the van.
When the office arrived, he ask for the owner who's name is Hemi, how do you sell a vehicle with no paperwork and he stated he had the papers for my van. When asked to produce them he said that is a 2002 ford Windstar knowing it was a 2003. This person was nervous and repeatedly insisted I could take the vehicle in hopes that this was the end of this matter. He then gave us the key and was still nervous and continue to say "everything is alright now right." The officer asked him how long did you have this vehicle and he replied " 4 months" but the person we spoke with at the bank said the lady said 8 months. After providing progressive with this information they came back out and took photos of the vehicle which had damage to it. They also took photos of the keys and made comparisons. They took oil and transmission oil samples and 6 weeks gone by and they denied our claim again. Based on their original reason or denial.

My wife was involved in an accident in which an elderly lady insisted she had the right of way to the point of driving up on a lawn and attempting to pass. She side swiped the car my wife was in and stopped her car on the lawn. She left the scene of the accident and went directly to the house on whose lawn she was parked, She immediately called Progressive to file a claim, at which point they told her that she had the right of way. There was no investigation and they simply took her word for what happened. The claim was processed in her favor immediately. The time of the accident and the time of her call to Progressive were identical. Mr. *** stated that he took the word of the first person who called as their statement would be "the freshest."
My wife was fully in her lane and the lady simply refused to be cut off in that manner. She was not struck by my wife's car and she could and should have avoided the accident instead of driving around on the wrong side on someone's lawn. The result is Progressive added their own additional charges to my policy and there was never any notice of surcharges sent to me. As a result of what they said is a major fault on my wife's part. Without the ability to appeal a surcharge, Progressive simply went ahead and increased my premium. Also, they add everyone to the same cars even though no one else can drive one of my cars, which is the most expensive one. It's also a standard shift which I am the only one who can drive it.
As a result. my car has damage to it and Progressive only paid me $77 for over $1200 in damages and charged me the $500 deductible as well. The older lady got immediate attention and her car was repaired at a cost of over $3,000, even though she caused the accident as well as leaving the scene to call the insurance company first. Progressive denies what Jim *** must have said. If anyone was to look at the times, they would see that it's impossible to be at a scene of an accident and be talking from a phone from a private residence.

I was in a accident where I was backing out of a handicapped parking space. The other car was not looking and backed into the left back part of my SUV bending the bumper. He jumped out and said, "I am so sorry, I will give you what you want." I asked if he had insurance and was told he had Progressive Auto Insurance. I took his information and called Progressive. They admitted to the accident. I took my SUV in to Pression Auto Body.
Progressive rented me another SUV after I told them I had just had a total right hip replacement. They put me in a Kia SUV which was too low. I contacted both them and the car rental place and told them that the SUV was to low. They then put me in a Expedition which was too high.
I told them and nothing was done. Finally, I was contacted by an agent from Progressive after 1 week to talk about my bodily injury. Before they knew the extent of my injury, they offered me $900.00 and said that was all they could do. I told them I wanted to go and see my hip surgeon to make sure that nothing was wrong with my hip. I was told by my doctor that I would have to pay up front in order to see him. I explained this to Progressive and was told they could get me in without me having to pay for the visit.
They were wrong I had to pay up front! I seen the doctor and was told my hip is still in place but the pain and soreness that I am feeling is due to the accident, my sitting too low and climbing to high in the rental trucks. Progressive got the doctors report and says that since there was no great injury, they would give me $1,500 for my trouble.
It is not about the money it is about the insulting gestures and comments made to me by Progressive agents. I still have yet to hear from them about my truck which is sitting to one side. I was told that I needed to get the truck realigned. Progressive, I am praying for your agents because anytime you speak to a potential client the way your agents have spoken and done me. We purchased a vehicle for our son that had a prior salvage title that wasn't damaged at all. It was fixed by a professional, inspected by the state of Missouri and was in great shape. We took out Progressive Insurance. They ran the VIN. We paid the same rate as anyone else. During a heavy downpour of rain and flooding, the vehicle was parked and the vehicle got flooded where water has never been before. We filed a claim. The NADA value of the vehicle is $11,500.
Through talking to several people with the insurance company, I realized they are deducting things I never heard of and they won't pay but 40% of the value of the vehicle. I stated I would like them to buy a replacement vehicle or tell me a place to do so for that! It can't be done. I don't see how an insurance company can do this while charging the same premium as any other vehicle and only paying 40% the value. We would have expected a little less, like 60 or 70% of the value, but 40%? That’s crazy! When we get this settled, we will never and would never suggest anyone to do business with Progressive Insurance Company.
My son works hard at a full time job every day. He bought this vehicle, got a loan and has been paying payments and insurance premiums on time and is not even driving the vehicle. It got flooded, and the total they’ll pay for it is 40% of its value. That is just enough to pay it off and he still does not have a vehicle to drive. That is a great experience and really makes a young person who is trying to do the right thing, and gets shafted this way really puts them in a bind and makes them wonder why try to do the right things when you get shafted. Thanks!

Ten days after them having my car, they called me again to notify me that they found they can't link the airbag light to the accident and would not be covering it. On July 1, 2010, I was driving down Highway 10 on my way to work when I hit a deer. I immediately got on the brakes hard and pulled over. I did what anyone would do: I got out of the truck and checked the front end. All the lights worked, and there was red fluid on front of the truck. I thought it was blood. There was also no dripping or leaking, so I left the truck idle with lights on, considering I am on a highway in the dark with a black truck.
Then I called the sheriff's office and told them I had hit a deer. He was there very quick. I would estimate 5-10 minutes. He asked me if I knew where the deer was, and I said it's too dark that I couldn't see. He flashed his flashlight and found the deer in the ditch. He asked if the vehicle was drivable, and I said yes. I told him there was nothing leaking and all the lights work.
So he got out of his vehicle and checked the front of my truck, shined his flashlight under my truck and said it all looks good. He started his report while I waited in the truck. He came up and said, "Traffic is clear; go ahead and pull out." So I put truck in gear, and nothing happens. I try all gears, and nothing happens. I walked back to him and said that there must be something damaged because I can't move.
So he called the wrecker, and I shut the truck off. As they put the truck on the flatbed, the right tire dragged in the gravel. They hauled the truck to Gustman's, and the next day, insurance called and said they told Gustman to start on the vehicle. I explained the sequence of events, and he told me the brakes and transmission were my fault as an admission of neglect.
I said I thought it was blood, and he said I let the vehicle idle. He said there was nothing wrong externally with brakes, and therefore, anything internally was probably normal wear and tear. I said that he go to the scene to see the rear tire marks through the gravel. This part kills me: He then said, "I suppose it didn't do that before the accident."
There's more to the story, but the short of it is: I have the vehicle moved to Bergstroms for body work. I showed some people I work with the job Bergstroms did, and I am not kidding but the hood sat 1/2 inch above the fenders. There was deer hair still in the bumper, and they did not replace a damaged bumper cover that has a big gouge out of it.
It is July 13, and I just dropped the truck at another body shop, and Progressive still refuses to fix my transmission. The truck does run and move. It lunges because of back brakes. They said they filled the trans fluid, and it seemed fine. I have a 95% reassurance from ATS transmission company that running the truck 25 minutes without fluid has done damage to transmission. I have told them from July 2 about the transmission, and they refused to accept it.

We were told we had no choice and must utilize El's Auto body for this claim. More than a week later, I called Steve from Progressive who was coordinating the repairs. I was expecting them to be completed, only to find nothing had ever been ordered for the car. Steve from Progressive never followed through on the glass order. I spoke with Henry Middleton at Progressive and again with Eric **, who originated the claim, to explain the issues at hand and complete lack of follow through.
I made a few dozen long distance calls, coordinating efforts while attending a business trip in California, as there was no effort from Progressive to get the glass or the repairs completed! I made all the arrangements between El and Safelight to finally get the glass. Its incomprehensible how poorly this was handled by everyone involved at Progressive time and again, actually they did not handle it at all.
I spoke with both Eric ** and Steve on March 22nd expressing Progressive's responsibility for the balance of the rental car of $163.14. Both Progressive employees promised to respond and never did. This information was also presented to Henry ** with no response. I contacted Peter ** and explained this appealing experience, only to receive a snide email denying any responsibility, it has all been well documented. Progressive is just as responsible as its affiliates for this horrible experience. Progressive let this entire claim fall by the waist side and simply did not execute any of its responsibilities, ultimately costing me, the consumer.
The vehicle should have been repaired at Jaguar from the beginning and would have been completed in 3 days, instead of 17, with no fees for a rental car as explained at the start of this claim. Progressive did not full fill any of its obligations, making their client execute Progressive employee’s responsibilities. I expect Progressive to immediately reimburse the balance of the Enterprise Rental car for $163.14, and resolve this issue today. Rental car charges incurred of $163.14.

We are a RV Repair center in western North Carolina. With 25 years of experience in this field, we have never seen such bad actions taken by Progressive Claims adjusters. Typical claims are handled by adjusters that require us to provide a detailed estimate for the work to be preformed. Progressive adjusters demand that we provided the invoices for goods purchased and will only allow a 20-22% gross profit margin. The also demand we provide labor hours by their calculations which I assure are not enough. After starting two projects, the adjuster waited until we were 70% complete to notify us about their new policies.
We have been doing business with this company for years, never seeing this type of business behavior. When we strongly objected to their actions, they took our invoices and showed their customers to make us look like we were the problem. In a separate case, they will not settle the claim with a customer because we refuse to show them our invoices. The customer has paid our company but Progressive Claims reps tell the customers we are the problem, not them. With these new time constraints they place on you to complete the work, corners have to be cut. With these thin margins companies will have to use substandard repair products and procedures. In a motor home or camper, families are being placed at risk by these policies. Our company will no longer do business with Progressive.

My car stalled a couple of weeks ago and I parked it at a business in the area I was traveling in. I was going to have the car towed to my usual shop on that upcoming Monday because they had early hours Saturday and I didn't have a car to go meet a tow truck at the business. So once my wife arrived home that afternoon, I used her car to go check on my car and likewise Sunday night before work. My plan to have the car towed Monday morning after work fell through because of very heavy storms across Georgia, so I decided to return that afternoon pending weather conditions. Once I returned, my car was gone. I called 911 and me and my wife filed a report. I notified Progressive and almost immediately, I was questioned as to why I parked it there and why would I wait until Monday to have it towed.
I gave a witness' name, who picked me up, and was repeatedly asked four times as if it would change. My car was found and released to Progressive and is now at a local body shop of my choosing. Progressive agent questioned everything and I was fully cooperative. Then I felt they took advantage by asking me and my wife for very personal information as if we were leading a crime ring. We were asked to provide phone records, maintenance records, payment history, 3 months bank statements, 3 months pay advices, even to check out credit for payment histories on any accounts that would give us (the victims) motive to ditch the car! Who trains these people to violate you and why is it legal? I was told they would pull fluids from the car to see if it was maintained.
All I wanted was my car fixed and returned to me. Progressive hasn't even wrote an estimate yet and the car has been recovered and sitting at the shop for a week now. The agent is hard to catch up with because he fails to return calls and acts upset when you finally do catch him, it's ridiculous. On top of not getting thorough answers, I was told we've been assigned a special investigator and we would move forward after the paperwork submitted is completely reviewed. I feel like this is being dragged out and they use subliminal ways of attempting to intimidate the real victims (they make you feel like you can't refuse to provide them with what they ask for) as if the vehicle owners are the criminals and Progressive is the victim.
If I had known Progressive treats customers this way in a time of crisis, I would've never insured the car with them especially after reading all of the negative blogs about them. Flo and the other agents should be in the back of a patty wagon chained to each other.

The next week I went up again, and when I looked under the covers, noticed that water had gotten in and filled up the small walk-thru area (it is a bass boat). I submitted my claim, and the adjuster came out, and looked at it. The total damages are $1,700. In his own notes, he says that corrosion is minimal, and it was also noted that I was able to use the batteries to raise the engine, and that the trickle charger also worked, indicative of the boat not being filled with water for very long.
Well, Progressive denied the claim, saying it was damaged, due to prolonged exposure. I asked them what they based that on, and they have yet to provide anything to me. I have paid them for over 4 years, and this is my first claim (I also have a 4x4 insured with them). What can I do to fight back? They were going to reduce our debt, get the money already levied and taken out of our bank account bank, file our future taxes and get IRS off our back. We paid $10K and they sent us a packet that we sent back. I didn't hear from them after some time so I call and leave messages. They finally called back after several weeks and said because I did not send back a questionnaire, the case is on hold and for them to reopen case they need another $20k more to get more agents onto the case. I paid.
Then few more months pass and I talked to them 4/16/10 and they said because they still didn't get the questionnaire, they've suspended my case and it is another $15,500 to reopen. I said no. They said they will reduce it to $10K as a favor to me and if I don't pay by today, my case will be dropped permanently. I refused and wanted the contact info of my IRS agent so that I can work with her directly. They refused and hung up the phone on me. I have tons of emails written to them demanded my files and my agent's info.
As I am typing this, I am on hold being transferred around for the past hour trying to get my IRS agent's number. They are purposely withholding this from me. They haven't even filed my '08 taxes or file and extension for my '09. I found out that they've done nothing with my case except demand more money. Their BBB rating is a D+ and there are a few rip off reports with this company. I have spent $30,000.00 and experienced emotional distress.

Our vehicle GMC 2006 Sierra got pretty badly dented during a hail storm in El Paso eastside area back in September 2009. Just like everyone else, I took my vehicle to get assessed for repairs and came to find out first assessment insurance was unsure and could not identify all dents as hail damage. The amount issued to fix the vehicle was not enough, and I disagreed with their assessment and requested for them to review this. They agreed to do this and advised they would call me back to set up another appointment for the testing that needed to be done to the truck. Truck test consisted of some kind of forensic test where they put some type of paste on the dents to help them determine what damaged the vehicle.
Tests came back, and the initial check that they provided, they reduced it, as the tests according to them identified inconsistency on the size of dents. Nevertheless, they could not determine what hit my vehicle. With this said, representatives got rude cutting us off on the questions we were asking where they had no clear answers other than "This is what the test is telling us and unfortunately this is what we need to go by." They suggested that if I wanted to get the rest covered, I needed to issue another claim for "vandalism," of which they would only also pay around 12% to cover the rest and that with my deductible, it would not be much that I could get.
I totally disagreed with their suggestion, as by doing this and agreeing with their request is accepting that there was vandalism to my vehicle. My vehicle did not have any dents other than a small rock dent in the windshield that we were aware of. This from them was a slap in our face, as they totally showed us that they did not care and we were on our own to fix this. My vehicle is on a lease program, and terms to this is for buyers or leasers to take care of property.
The damage to our vehicle done by nature currently claimed by insurance as vandalism is not what everyone would like to hear. Their disrespectful approach and negatism on supporting this so unprofessionally is bound for review.
They told us to get a lawyer, as this was all they could do, and as far as they know, nothing so far has been done on our side to get them to do what we claim. This is uncalled for from them, and it is more of a challenge, as knowing lawyer fees are not everyone can afford. And I am at this time stuck with a bill to continue paying my vehicle or turn it in as is and get fined as the fixture for the vehicle, after having body shops provide estimates, is between 5K to 6K. The insurance provided was less than 2K.
My vehicle has full coverage, of which this so-called perfect insurance company has turn it into a no-value coverage. I have gone to the BBB, and somehow they have identified via letters that the Insurance company is not willing to pay. If the forensic that they did could not determine what actually damaged the vehicle, how can they just assume based on the size and not the actual evaluation?
This is ridiculous, as who knows how many other people are going through this and not speak up and continue to get ripped off. I switched from Allstate to this darn company to save a few bucks and ended up getting the worst coverage ever. I never had claims of this type (If need to, my history will tell.), for Progressive to just decide to not cover what I am paying for. I am due to either return my vehicle in June or keep it, and based on the situation at hand, I will more than likely end up keeping my truck. I have no choice, as GM will not take it back like this.

We have a 31 foot boat and we live on the water we used the boat and about 4 days later, we noticed that the boat was taking on water. We called the insurance Progressive and made a report. We took the boat to a shop, Liberty Marine in Sacramento, CA, where they looked at the boat and saw that a shift bellows on the outdrive had a hole in it.
Was funny that after the boat was used 4 days prior, now a hole in it after doing 65 mph with the boat. Progressive denied the claim for lack of changing them we have the boat inspected at least 2 times per year to change the rubber on the back of boat would cost $3,000.00 to do. They said it was fine 6 months ago. Boat was in water, not out in the sun. We have been told by many mechanics that Progressive try's to do this a lot and that company, like Farmers, doesn't look for a reason to throw there customers under the bus. We will stop using them as soon as this is done. They are no good.

On 12/08/2009, I was traveling east on St. Rt. 73, the weather was starting to get bad with sleet as we had another snow storm coming. I was going out to pick up my wife's blood pressure medication. I was going 35 MPH when all of a sudden a 2005 Ford Focus (from a parking lot on the right side of the road) pulls out in front of me. I hit my brakes and I went sliding and fish tailing. I hit her at about 30 MPH. Both of my air bags go off, I was hurt. I was taken by ambulance to hospital.
Although I was injured, thank God not badly. When I got home from the hospital that evening, I called my insurance company Progressive and give my report of the accident and all the information they need at that time. The next day my wife and I call Progressive and we speak with a man named Nick (can't remember last name) and we go over my accident and he says that the other person has not contacted them and they will get the accident report, and then we can go forward. Everyday for 6 days we call and hear no the police report isn't ready from the responding cop, or that the police department sent it to Sheriff Department and they are working on it, and he'll talk with us tomorrow.
Well, let's just say by the 6th day, my wife was really ticked off, so while we where on the phone with Nick she asked if he had the report yet, it was the same answer as always no. She (my wife) went wild on him. He called her ** and hung up on her. A few minutes later a man named Wess ** called and said we could have a rental car for 3 days and that they wanted us to come to Vandalia, Ohio and hours drive for us (guess we weren't worth a response vechal). Well my wife is afraid of the interstate and I was unable to drive so we where like yes (at first) I kept thinking I can't drive, I'm hurt. We called them back and said no you'll have to bring us the check for my car you are totaling and my injury compensation.
Well, can't complain about money for my car, but those guys only wanted to give me $950.00 for my injuries, ambulance alone was 900 not counting my ER visit or my fallow up doctor visits for my injured knee. I told them no I have to have more money to cover the bills. The girl who cut in front of me, we found out also had Progressive Insurance, and she was 17 and not paying attention. Anyway I got an attorney, he's been working like a dog to help me put after all this unless we would have went to court. I have to pay my own medical bills, my attorney is working with the hospital to lower the bill there so I get something for the suffering, after its all said and done I will only get in my pocket $2,000.
And even though we settled with Progressive and we didn't go to court, they are still screwing me. They are waiting for social security to pay off or payout or something before they will send my check, even though they know the money will be there for whatever they are waiting for cause they hold that money out of the settlement themselves. So it could be up to 4 more months before I even get the $2,000. I was not at fault for my wreck at all, even police reports state that and Progressive has never said I was. But they have treated me like I was a criminal and the way they treated my wife was deplorable.
Progressive. Cheap yes, in service, in quality, and good honest people. Yeah there #1 in cheap. I will no longer allow myself to pay someone to victimize me. Also in the settlement even though we have changed our Insurance company they took out for a policy we no longer have with them. Progressive's treatment and delay in getting the accident report lead to my wife calling the Police Department. She spoke with my response Officer Nick nor Wess ** had ever called them. The report had been ready since the day after my accident. We had waited 6 days with no car because of our lazy, rude and sorry Progressive Insurance. We where approved to have a rental for 3 days to find another car. And it has helped lead us to being evicted from our apartment, we where going to use the settlement money, it could be 4 more months. So now we are facing being homeless and my wife has Pulmonary Hypertension and is on oxygen 24 7.

I know insurance companies are not our friend.
I get that but agents need to tell us right off what we will be responsible for. They asked our policy number right away. They should know what is not covered immediately upon calling about a claim. Because of this agents not knowing his job, it cost me $ I don't have. My husband is on disability. I am unemployed and so is everyone else on the planet! I get that too! My policy coverage is for 50,000.00, why am I paying any money out of pocket? It's just not right because I have insurance. Bottomline, I'm not a lawyer and no one I know is read your policy it's all there. Whatever!

We called Progressive because of poor service and rising premiums with Travelers for no reason at all. We hoped the advertisements were truthful. We tried online quotes only to be bombarded with calls. So we tried Progressive online. It was not that much lower and we couldn't get the Homeowner to work. So we called the agents (several calls) and one gal finally got our insurance lowered. You have to talk to a different person for Auto & Home Owners. Everyone does not get the same training.
For Auto, it took 2-3 calls to get a satisfactory quote as the last gal applied all the applicable discounts. Then the bombardment of paper work follows . We got minimum of 5 set. Each said due to a change but no clue what changed. The payments started at $68.84 for what was suppose to be 10 months and then 2 months of no payment. That never happened. The payments over the first six months started creeping up and they said it was due to billing cycles and adding a 2nd car. But it was really an increase disguised. It came up for renewal in Jan (6 months not 12 like they sold us) and it was 25% higher . They finally admitted they had a rate increase since they had not had one for many years. Our payment went from 68.84 per month to over 107.00 per month. Our premiums went from $68.84 for 10 months to 107.00 for 12 months. That's a rate hike!
We went to Liberty Mutual. Have more coverage. 12 month policies guaranteed in writing (and nice clean paperwork that says the same thing as the quote) and its $807.00 for the year! And we make 11 payments and we have road side coverage and higher medical. Next Progressive's Homeowners, that too took several calls. We were downsizing and fixing a house we already owned. First agent said he couldn't quote as we didn't live in it yet. Several agents later we got a quote for half of what the first tried. That was for a year but the coverage was way too low by 60,000. It also went up in the billing cycle from $457.00 to $1104.00 "billing cycle of course. " I think they "bait & switch" and hope you don't catch it. Upon cancelling, the payment was 103.14 for 12 months. Just about triple.
Liberty Mutual provides full replacement cost, higher coverage by $60,000, Loss of Use "Actual Sustained" $1,000,000 in Personal Liability, Workmans Comp, Credit Card Forgery Protection, all for 426.00. Thats 1/3 of Progressive.
Conclusion "Progressive " means your rates progress upwards. Stay away.
On this very site there are 24 pages of detailed feedback averaging 10 per page. I skimmed 6 pages 43 denied claims, delayed claims, shoddy work and driving people into financial ruin. 12 were billing and cost increase issues. One only had anything close to a compliment. Knowledge is power.

When I called Progressive to ask for an insurance quote for my daughter, the rep. said he could not speak with me concerning the quote and asked for my daughter's phone number. My daughter does not want to be called, nor discuss these quotes, as she is a busy woman and I was doing her a favor, calling companies to get a better idea of the quotes and coverages out there. Upon telling him that I just wanted a quote and that there would be no transaction occurring, he maintained that he would not give me any ideas/information or prices. So I said to him, "Wow, okay. So how about we just say that I am my daughter. I have all of the necessary info. Can we just proceed?"
And he said this to me, "Well, ma'am, how about we just say that I will be reporting you as committing a federal crime for insurance fraud?" I was totally stunned. I told him that I wanted his name, and he said,"Certainly," and he hung up on me. How is that for a story? Kind of twisted, no? I will be taking matters into my own hands. Now, having read the other posts on this board, I get the real picture on this company. What can this company do for us anyway that calling the four major insurance companies can't do for us directly? I am quite certain that the insurance companies themselves would gladly match the prices that Progressive would quote.
I was initially calling Progressive based upon their lovely advertisements in the hopes of making the entire process a bit easier for us. Well, perhaps Progressive chose a Great Ad Agency because Progressive is such a disreputable company that someone over there knew that they need terrific ads!

I set up a policy with Progressive due to their low rates. I paid by the 6 months. on December 14, I called because I received a bill for $50 after I had paid in full for the 6 months. I was told that I did not sign a form that was sent to my email. I explained to the person that I never got the form and did not know anything about it. He told me nothing could be done and I told him I wanted to cancel my policy, but I would call back in a bit to do so because I was short on time. About 4 hours later, after dropping my wife off at work, I called back and spoke to someone different and explained the situation. I was told that they did not want me to cancel the policy and it would be fixed. This morning, I got a call from Progressive stating that my policy was canceled for non payment.
I talked to the person on the phone and they said that they can't find any information that I called back. I think Progressive is involved with a scam to show low rates and then increase their profit during the first 6 months. Now, because of Progressive's dishonesty, my license will be suspended. I have never had any infractions and no points on my license. Now, due to their negligence, I will lose my license. The lady on the phone told me that she could make it look right so I did not lose my license if I paid her $70. This sounds like blackmail. Have to pay $70 to keep my license or have my license suspended for lapse in coverage.

I was in an auto accident on January 8, 2010 while driving through Connecticut. My car was hit on the left side while traveling in the middle lane on the highway 91 at 65MPH. As a result of the impact, my vehicle spun around 2-3 times on the highway, and finally came to a stop on the right shoulder.
A claim was filed the same night as the accident, and Progressive proceeded to keep my car for over 2 months. Upon receiving my vehicle back from Progressive, I noticed a number of issues outstanding with respect to the body work & mechanical service performed on the car. I have had 2 independent inspections performed on my vehicle, one performed by Warnock Lexus.
I have been informed of a number of damage directly related to the work performed by Progressive, and it's contracted auto repair facilities. I wish to submit a formal complaint in attempt to recover the cost associated not only with the damages to my vehicle, but any additional rental car fees, and diagnostic fees, associated with this accident. The cost associated with the aforementioned issues, far exceeds $2500.

Apparently, I somehow missed paying my final gas bill at a Los Angeles residence that I moved away from in 2005. This company (PMR) received the collections account and began sending notices to an address I hadn't lived at since 2002, three years before I incurred the debt in the first place. Needless to say, I had no idea there was an issue, a debt of $89.06, to be exact, which I would have happily paid had I ever been contacted.
When I ran my credit to get pre-approved for a mortgage, I found the item and contacted PMR right away. After being lied to by the first representative, I spoke to (who told me they could keep reporting the debt as long as they wanted to, and unless I paid up right away he would make sure it stayed on my credit report for an additional seven years, a direct violation of the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act), I got a supervisor (Mike **) on the phone who agreed to delete the item from my credit report after receiving payment. Convincing Mike to send me written confirmation of this agreement via email, before I paid, took another twenty minutes, but eventually, a deal was struck and I received an email confirming that they would delete the item from my report after I paid.
I paid the full $89.06 over the phone on January 20, 2010. After a month, the item was still being reported by Equifax as unpaid. Several days worth of phone calls later, the status was changed to "paid," but the item was still being reported. It's now been another month, and I'm in the exact same situation. Mike keeps saying he'll "check into it" and call me back; I have no idea what he does when he hangs up the phone, but he certainly doesn't use it to call me again ever. I've called their corporate number (provided to me in an email and a subsequent letter sent to my home confirming that the item is due to be removed entirely form my credit report) but all of the extensions and menu options lead to the same voice mail, and I have never received a call back despite repeated messages.
I have now filed a second complaint with the FTC regarding this incident (the first was for the inappropriate attempts to collect and the outright lies of the first representative I spoke to). Anyone else who has had similar experiences with this company, please do the same! The only way these will get what's coming to them is through the power of numbers. Damaged credit score and many hours of wasted time.

On February 7, 2010 my daughter and son were driving to pick up their younger brother from his girlfriend’s house per my request due to being ill. Within minutes I received a telephone call from my daughter that they had been hit by a drunk driver. My daughter had suffered head trauma and actually thought she was calling 911. A gentleman driving under the influence had exited the freeway at a very high speed and never slowed down. He hit the vehicle in front of my children, hit my daughter's car and then went down into a ditch. My daughter has no memory as to how she was hurt or how she actually exited her vehicle. My son was the driver and most of the damage to her vehicle was on the passenger side.
My children both went to help the drivers of the other vehicles. My daughter helped the man in the vehicle that was first struck by the drunk driver and my son, realizing that the drunk driver was not in his vehicle, used the flashlight on his cell phone and went down into the ditch to look for the driver. He located the drunk driver under the camper shell of his pickup, and now the truck was on fire! With the help of a passerby they removed the man from under the camper shell and pulled him to safety.
Since the time of the accident my daughter has been diagnosed with a skull fracture. She is in the process of being sent to a neurologist because she is having problems remembering things, confusing her words, and having constant daily headaches. She has been to the emergency room twice for pain and is also seeing a physical therapist because of the accident. She has been diagnosed with the skull fracture and post concussion syndrome. My son who did not have to help the man who made the poor decision of driving drunk has been thrown the biggest blow of all! The drunk driver is diagnosed HIV positive and Hep B positive. My son was covered in this man's blood!
Not only does he have back problems and frequent headaches, but my child now has to wait 3 months to be tested for HIV and Hep B to find out if his life is going to be changed forever! He is only 19! The drunk driver is insured with State Farm, but apparently he doesn't have enough coverage to pay for all of the damage he has caused. My family is covered through Progressive and has been for years. We pay our premiums on time and I think they have only had one claim because I hit a deer. My husband, my son, and myself all have good driver discounts. My daughter is also insured with Progressive but on her own policy.
Due to banking error which the bank admitted to my daughter's premium was not paid for the month of January and we were not aware that her policy was terminated as of January 12th. The right thing for Progressive to do would be to re-instate her policy due to the bank’s error not hers. But they decided they didn't want to do that because of the accident. My son was the driver of her vehicle when the accident occurred, so our claims rep Chris M. told me not to worry and they would cover everything under my policy, which my son is a driver on. No deal! After receiving a certified letter from Progressive stating that they were more than likely going to deny our claim, I called Chris in tears.
I did not understand and he wanted to record our phone conversation. So not only am I sick, but I am concerned for my children and their well being and this man wants to record me crying and in distress. I was coerced into telling them that my son drove my daughter’s vehicle more than he actually did so that gave them grounds to deny our claim. It has been over a month since the accident and I feel helpless. My daughter's car is still not fixed. I don't know if my son is going to have HIV or Hep B for the rest of what would be a very poor life, and my insurance company refuses to help me! They should have done the right thing and re-instated my daughter's policy due to the bank error, but they didn't.
They should be helping me with one of the most difficult times in my life, but they're not! All I see is an insurance company that wants to collect my monthly premiums and then tell me to go to hell when I actually need the services I pay for! We did nothing wrong! We are the victims! We did not drink and drive! And we certainly did not make decisions that have greatly changed other people’s lives in a negative manner! We are good people. We are honest people. We are widely known in our small community for donating to any cause, not only financially but with our time and what Progressive is doing to us is wrong!

A progressive insured rammed me. They made it impossible for me to get my car fixed. Wanted me to take it places. Offered unacceptable timelines and alternate transportation. Sighted that they do the absolute minimum required by law. Who ever knew, now comparing rates we find progressive to be average in their premiums and completely substandard in the way they conduct their business. Obviously, we will be switching upon expiration.
Cannot get car repaired for several months. Unknown what the compounding of the damages their insured ramming my car will come to. Beware, their ads express that you can customize your policy. All companies offer this but what's worse, they make claims that they are responsive. They are not. They are actually abusive. On or about November 1, 2009, when I spoke to a Progressive representative on the phone, I explained to them that I am on a fixed income and I cannot afford to pay more than $200 for a policy. The representative told me that since the $50 discount was just one-time, my policy went back up to a rate of $280 with a $20 discount if I renew online. They then told me that with 2 tickets and an old accident on my record, I would be required to participate in a driver improvement program for mature drivers just for a measly $3 discount! I feel their TV commercials are false advertisings and they're insulting. They would not let me name my price. I emailed the company recently telling them what I think of them and their commercials. On 2/8/2010, Monday morning at 3:00 am. My wife and I were woken up from the crash of a car being pushed through our porch, front door, windows and exterior wall. This smashed, totaled out car stopped with its rear end in our foyer. This was our car that was parked in our driveway. We called 911 at 3:15 am. The police and fire departments arrived within minutes. The accident was caused by a driver of another car. The driver drove off of the road over a concrete curb and sidewalk, through our neighbors wooden fence, into our car (that was pushed into house), through our 3' high hedge, continued through our 2' tall brick landscaped island into our other neighbors carport before it finally came to a stop. In all toll there was over a hundred twenty foot path of destruction.
The driver and vehicle that caused the accident were insured with Progressive Insurance Company. The driver and his passenger were not injured but his car was a mess. Both cars were towed by the city of Ft. Lauderdale Police Department's hired towing company. I called Progressive Insurance at about 4:30 a.m. They gave me a claim number and Jamie ** as our claim adjuster. At that time, we were told to expect a call from Jamie by no later than 10:00 am. I started calling Jamie after 11:00 am Monday and kept calling every hour until she returned my calls on Tuesday at 1:30 pm. I gave her all the information and details that the police and I had. Wednesday morning, I tried to contact Jamie about getting a rental car. She told me nothing will be done about our car or house until she can obtain a copy of the accident report which takes 5 days. Jamie got very rude with me when I told her that our totaled out car was our only means of transportation. She told me that I was foolish for having our vehicle towed and that there was no money for a rental.
Many times I explained to Jamie that our car was towed by the police dept. because it was a hazard due to a ruptured gas tank and could not stay on our property. We called Jamie's supervisor, Nixa R, we explained the same situation. After we were told by her that we should not have had our car towed, I explained that we did not have anywhere else to go with the car and it was towed to the police compound. Finally, Nixa realized what I was telling her and told me that Progressive had their own car compound. We told Nixa we had no money, since I have been unemployed for seven months, and had no means of getting to the police compound where our car was towed. I had to borrow the money from a friend in order to take a taxi to the police compound and sign a document to have our car released to Progressive.
The damages which I have explained, to our house and car, left us with no transportation, a hole in our house which looks out to a six lane highway, a ripped up front yard and sprinkler system, debris and also include our front porch a hole which extends from our front exterior window, door and wall. My wife and I call multiple times, on a daily bases, to Jamie and Nixa and have not had any of our phone calls returned. We are still left with no means of transportation to get to the supermarket, pet store, etc. which are all necessities.
On Friday, we took a taxi to the Police Dept. at approximately 10 am to obtain a copy of the accident report. We again made more phone calls to Jamie and Nixa letting them know the police report was ready and we would fax them a copy. Yet again none of our phone calls were returned. Today is Tuesday, February 16th, 2010, it is 3:00pm and after multiple phone calls to both Jamie and Nixa, we have not heard back. We are still left without transportation and a large hole in the front of our house and these parties from Progressive will not return any of our phone calls.
We have come to the conclusion that this should not be or is not only an inconvenience but an emergency situation that has not been responded to. In addition to the damage to our house, our family pets are at risk (as are we) due to the hole in the front of our home. In conclusion, we feel that since this accident was no fault of ours. We are the victims of pure lack of concern and professionalism from these parties responsible to handle our claim from Progressive Insurance.

I am a customer of Progressive with no tickets, accidents, and I have never made a claim for more than 15 years now. A few weeks ago, someone parked next to me in a parking lot, in an SUV, opened their tailgate, causing their spare tire carrier to swing around, and the tire put a little dent in my fender. The total damage amounted to around $800. I took a week off from work to get it fixed. The claim problems began when claim rep Stephanie declared this was a collision, and not a comp claim, thereby increasing my deductible from $250 to $500, even though the paint was unscratched in and around the dent. When I tried to argue the point, she called me a liar, and accused me of attempting to defraud her of the $250 difference! Then, after I got my estimates and decided on a body shop, Progressive's estimator didn't show up as promised, for several days, causing me to have to pay a week's worth of additional rental car fees to get to work.
This tiny claim was a nightmare. Claim rep Stephanie was a heavy handed unprofessional bully, whose primary motivation was obviously geared more toward her 'no claim payout' bonus check, than to helping me get back on the road. For 15 years, Progressive was great at accepting my payments, but when it finally came time to make a very small claim, the friendly demeanor was gone. Never again.

Progressive's insured client made a left turn across my vehicle's path at an intersection. My vehicle was subsequently determined to be totaled. The police report found Progressive's client responsible.
I have an number of complaints regarding the methods employed and handling of this case by Progressive:
1) Although the police report placed full responsibility for the accident on their client, Progressive took the tact of suggesting we were "partially at fault." They hinted that they were investigating a witness to the accident. In my opinion this was intended to test the waters to see how easily I might be manipulated, hoping to reduce the amount of compensation they might eventually pay out. It is very upsetting to have family members in an accident in the first place, but to have an outside party play these types of emotional chess games for the sole purpose of lessening their payout is deplorable. I had to consult with an attorney and spend time writing several letters before Progressive finally admitted that they had 100% liability (letter attached). I should not have had to do this and feel empathetic for others who, I am sure have to endure similar tactics.
2) Another deceptive practice is being used by Progressive staff members. They explained that I would be compensated for the value of my vehicle based on its N.A.D.A. Blue Book retail price. That seemed logical and fair to me. They added that there would be an adjustment to that figure for its "local market value. " Hearing this, I will admit that I wondered to myself if this adjustment might not be a little in my favor since the local market value of my all-wheel drive vehicle would certainly be higher in the northeast than in many other parts of the country where snow is less common.
A Valuation Report was transmitted to me by Progressive. I will use the base numbers provided to me for simplicity of discussion. Progressive's Valuation Report showed the N.A.D.A. Blue Book value of my car to be $4,150. To my dismay, however, the report placed a "local market value" of $2135 on the car with small adjustments for extra equipment; I cannot replace my vehicle for $2135. For my final compensation ,Progressive apparently decided (arbitrarily) that it was appropriate to weight these numbers equally (averaging them). I had the following exchanges with Progressive staff:
- I asked how this seemingly arbitrary number was arrived at and got the answer "That's the way we do it."- I questioned the validity of the number and its relationship to reality and got, "We ran the computer program again and got the same number, therefore it is accurate."
- I questioned their method and got, "Our methods are consistent with Connecticut Insurance Department standards "I strongly disagree with these methods and Progressive's evasive "answers" to reasonable questions.
I found it necessary to take the time to research the retail price of similar vehicles in the local market and obtained a letter from a local car dealer stating that the value of my specific vehicle was actually between $5495 and $5995. This information was submitted to Progressive and has been chosen to be ignored.
3) Several days after Progressive staff members had explained to me that there could be no adjustments to the compensation, I received a phone call from them. A staff member explained that they had not originally included certain additive adjustments, in the compensation. With these adjustments, they could get me closer to the final value that the N.A.D.A Blue Book value would yield. Although I was glad that that their hard position appeared to have softened. I was dismayed that these adjustments had not been suggested previously.
4) Most recently, Progressive has not returned my phone calls, responded to emails or requests for information. They have my vehicle and money I am due for compensation. They appear to be taking no steps to resolve my case. It seems that if I don't agree, I get nothing at all.
The tactics employed on me involving this claim are very likely being employed on other individuals who are less able to fight for themselves. It is wrong to have people being taken advantage of by scare tactics, arbitrary and unsubstantiated numbers, withholding of information, and finally being ignored.I think that I have been reasonable. I would have gladly accepted the published N.A.D.A. retail value for my vehicle, (although I have proof that my car was worth more than that figure). As a conscientious engineer, I have great difficulty accepting arbitrary numbers, whose basis can not be explained. I have just submitted a complaint to the State Insurance Department. Hope that helps. Anyone have any other ideas?

I am very dissatisfied with the service of Progressive Insurance. I am not insured with them, but was hit by one of their customers. This accident happened at the end of December 2009. I received a letter in the mail from Progressive yesterday stating that my claim was denied. The reason my claim was denied is because they cannot get in contact with their customer. They are stating to me that I need to put it on my insurance because they can't contact their client to get his statement. I am basically **.
They stated to me that they have called, sent letters and even went by the client's home, and still no response. If there is not a response after all of this, what does that say to you? He is avoiding you for a reason; he is guilty. I am very upset, not that my car was totaled or anything, but it is the principle of the matter. How fair is it that you, as an insurance company is basically stating to their clients that it is okay to hit people? And as long as they do not answer any messages, and don't respond in any kind of way, they (Progressive) do not have to pay.

I bought a car about three and a half years ago and purchased full coverage insurance through Benchmark Insurance in St. Joseph, MO, an agent for Progressive. I was told that if my 2 oldest sons were not going to be regular drivers, they would need to be excluded from the policy. At that time they each had their own cars and insurance. Last week my oldest son did use my car and was hit by another vehicle that left the accident before authorities could arrive.
Progressive is saying that since he was an excluded driver that I don't really have full coverage. Is that possible? It was my understanding that I was excluding them from being a regular driver on my policy, which they were not and they still aren't. How can they say they are giving you full coverage on a car with a lien against it when they can basically bully you into either adding specific people to your policy or excluding them? I now have a car I'm still paying on that is sitting on a tow lot.

All the clever ads are a mask to hide a poor company. We called Progressive to get a price on auto insurance to replace another policy. We gave them our policy information and we wanted the exact coverage and levels of coverage. An underwriter then called our son to get additional information. Their price was better so we changed. Only then did we learn that they called our son to manipulate him into foregoing the Med-Care optional upgrade. This left him with zero medical on the sham policy. It protected everyone but him. He was in an accident and now they claim he opted out of the optional medical injury coverage. I would say to anyone thinking about Progressive - beware.

What good is a Diamond membership when I have been treated as second-rate customer? I would like to express my utmost disappointment with Progressive. I have been a loyal customer for more than six years. I have two vehicles insured with Progressive and faithfully pay my policy in full every 6 months. I have not made one single claim on my policy in the past 5 years. In December, one of our vehicles was flooded during torrential downpours in South Florida. We were sure the damage would have caused a total loss. After the adjuster looked at the car, they told us they would be able to fix it. The mechanic worked hours on that car. Once he fixed the computer, the car would start, but wouldn't stay on. The mechanic called Progressive and told them he needed to replace the battery and the fuel pump and he was given permission on the phone to do so. However, the Progressive contact later told him that they didn't approve this purchase and are fighting him on payment. Really? They are fighting him over a couple of hundred dollars?
This past Saturday, I went to the mechanic to check out the car. I turned it on and immediately noticed the car hesitated to start. In addition, every time I shifted, the engine would "slip" and rev. Obviously, the car was not drivable. On Wednesday night, the contact I spoke to, Danny **, told the mechanic that he had to retake the car apart to check the clutch, but that the damage is probably not from the flood. What? Do you think that car drove like that before the flood? Now, the mechanic again would have to spend hours disassembling the car just so an adjuster can take another 48 hours to come out and look at it and "possibly" determine the clutch is damaged due to the flood.
In addition, one of the arguments Danny gave me was that the water "did not come that high". Just ask my husband who waded in waste-deep water for hours to get to an area of high ground since the car would not start. By the way, he was with a friend who can testify to that. Also, our conversation ended with Danny so kindly hanging up on me in the middle of the conversation. With all of the money and efforts that Progressive spends marketing its company as a reliable organization, I am totally surprised of the complete lack of respect and customer service. They are very consistent and timely with reminding me to pay my policy. Customer service goes beyond being nice to me when I need nothing from them. When did common sense get lost in this world?
Progressive has spent more time and money on "formalities" than if they were to have just cut a check to fix the car or total it from the beginning, not to mention the time and money both the mechanic and myself have lost due to amount of time it is taking to resolve this issue. I have been waiting for a manager to call me back for over 2 days. Funny because I was told as a "Diamond Customer", any issues I have would be expedited.

Our vehicle was involved in a parking lot accident, hit and run, damaging the bumper and the hood. We filed a claim with Progressive and had the vehicle repaired at a local shop. On the Land Rover, the washer fluid feed goes to both the windshield washer and the nozzle on the bumper that sprays the head lights. Progressive had not authorized the shop to replace the nozzle because they claim that the nozzle was missing when it arrived for the repair and was categorized as a preexisting damage. Since I was out of town, my wife who knows nothing about things mechanical did not flag this as something that could have broken off as a result of the accident.
During a Colorado snow storm driving down from Denver, I ran out of wiper fluid because the hose connecting the washer fluid pump to the bumper nozzle was leaking it all over the road. It could not be connected to the missing bumper wiper fluid nozzle. Doing 70 mph on I-25 south, my wind shield turned to mud/sleet and I could not see where I was headed. Fortunately, I was able to pull off and use something to clean the wind shield, get back on the road, then stop again this time keeping my distance from the vehicle ahead to reduce the amount of sleet/mud flung on the wind shield.
We called and had Progressive approve taking the vehicle back for having the nozzle installed. I agreed to pay for a $50 part, the missing bumper nozzles because "the parts were missing to begin with". What lunacy. I raised the concern with Progressive as this being a safety concern that the average consumer would have no clue on occurring. At least they could have given me the option to pay the $50 upfront before risking lives. The Progressive representative got on a real attitude by telling me she had it on record that I had said the part was missing totally dodging the responsibility of properly informing the consumer and providing an option for the consumer to decide what to do.
I escalated to their manager, who told me this is my responsibility. The question is responsibility for what? For expecting the average consumer to know that they are driving off with a car that will strand them with no visibility after a repair in a storm? How is my wife or the average consumer supposed to know this? The average consumer may not even know that Progressive opted to risk their life so they could save $50 on a repair that costs thousands. To quote the progressive supervisor, "$50 multiplied many times adds up to a lot of money!" Yes, it adds up to a lot of lives too when multiplied over many repairs.
Progressive appears to hold no responsibility for properly informing the customer that there is a safety concern as long as they can get away with it. Escalation from my initial contact to their manager only resulted in the same careless mantra "it is your responsibility." My responsibility is to inform you, the reader, to beware. I plan to discontinue my service with Progressive at the earliest possible date.

I requested a mover company online. Progressive Company made contact with me and I spoke with someone (his name was Alex). We agreed that the delivery of my furniture of which it was very clear that I have a bedroom set, a Living room (Sofa bed and Chair), and I explained that the sofa bed was heavy and they might have to use stairs. The extra charge for the sofa was $85 and dining room table with 6 chairs, plus a computer desk and kitchen stuff. Alex had told me that the charge per hour was $70 plus. For three men x three hours minimum service, the total would be $210 plus $85 for the sofa, the total would be $295.
Two days before the moving date which was 11/30/09, a person named Erick came to my apartment in Hackensak, NJ and asked me to sign on an insurance form, which meant that I would be covered by the company insurance in case of any damage incurred by the workers. Before I signed the statement, I observed that the statement covered only the moving cost which was initially agreed on, $210; however, I told Eric that there was an additional charge of $85 for the sofa bed so he corrected the amount to $295.
On 11/30/09, the day of the moving, three Russian men showed up to my apartment. The person in charge asked me to sign on blank forms stating that it would cover the moving insurance, in case of damage or broken stuff, they were not responsible. Then he asked me to sign on a form where it had packing charges. I asked him why I should sign the form for packing when everything was already packed. He said, "Just in case we had to use any of their supplies." I asked that person (I do not recall his name) "How much I would have to pay for the moving?"
He said, "You do not have to pay anything now until we get to the destination," which was one block away from my moving location at ** street. I moved to Hackensack. I asked that guy why he did not provide me with an estimate of how much I would have to pay. He refused and said, "before we deliver the furniture to your place, you would have to pay." I asked, "Why would you collect the payment before delivering the furniture to my apartment?" He said, "because people shut the door in our face before we receive the payment." I told him "I am surprised to hear that." I observed that person was covering and taping the necessary and unnecessary furniture like, dinning room chairs, old chair. I did not have china or expensive furniture that required all that packing.
Then we arrived at the new apartment. The driver came to me and asked me to pay $1,114 and some change, I do not recall, for the moving cost before delivering the furniture or they would take the furniture to a storage and take me to court for not paying. Then he produced a receipt itemizing the cost, charging me $700 for using tapes and one box to cover the bedroom mirror. He told me that my apartment is 50 feet away from his truck and I would have to pay $300 in addition to the $85 for the sofa bed which was already carried in the Elevator and they did not have to use the stairs.
I screamed. I was very upset for the humiliation, the lies and highway robbery they did to me right on the spot. I felt hopeless because I was unable to do anything except borrow money from my girlfriend who was with me and she used her credit card (Visa) to pay for the moving cost. If I did not have my friend, I would be sleeping on the floor and I had no furniture. I moved from Lodi to Hackensack, and I paid $550. And they did exactly as the Progressive did from packing with no extra charge.
I am reporting this company to the media, to the newspapers; and I will take them to small claims court for their robbery and cheating of the public.

I had woken up one day to my truck being vandalized in my friend's driveway. So once I got to work, I called my independent agent, who said "Pay for it out of pocket if you can, and if not, call and make a claim with Progressive." I got an estimate at a body shop, and the manager said that the work would cost almost $2000. It looked as if my hood and bumper were hit with a baseball bat. So I brought my car in for the repairs and the adjuster came out. He called me and said that it appears there was red transfer on my truck and that by law due to the bending of the fender, he had to change the claim from comprehensive to collision.
I said, "So someone hit me," and he answered yes. He never told me that he was going to state that I was at fault, and he was very rude. So a few weeks later, my boyfriend went to get his liability insurance renewed, and he told me that I had an at fault claim recently on my driving record, and I was like, "What are you talking about?" Sure enough I called Progressive and they said that I was 100 percent at fault due to the fact that the the damages were consistent with hitting a pole. I say this because I called the guy and said I remember that the red paint was from a pole I bumped a year ago, but it did not do this damage as the hood was bashed in various places and the bumper cracked. The pole caused no damage and left only a trace amount of red paint. So the guy continued to say that it was consistent with hitting a pole, and I was at fault in order for the claim to be paid.
I find this very interesting because my premium was just getting ready to go down in July, so it is ironic they would find me at fault for this and blame it on the pole when it was nothing to do with it. If it had been the pole, there would have been much more paint, and what about the dents in my hood? This is exactly how they rip people off, and the adjusters, I am sure, get a bonus for finding the policy holder at fault. A friend of mine's husband works at a body shop and when I told her about this experience, she said her husband said Progressive treats people terrible and like criminals when they are in an accident, even if they have never had any claims. "The policy holder is almost always at fault as well," he said.

I reiterated how the car ran fine before the accident, I saw oil after and now I seem to have engine trouble. He said they looked for it and couldn't find anything. He said they could tow it back but I had to pay for it.
I repeated the events. He said he'd call his boss and get back to me. Two days later, I called him and they agreed to tow it back on their dime. Once in the shop, he didn't call me. I talked with the Service Manager at the dealership where the repairs were done. He explained what they were doing to diagnose the leak. They ran computer codes and put it on the lift. There were theories, but no definitive explanation. This Chevy dealership said they recommended a foreign auto guy down the street or the BMW dealer. My car is a '99 M3 convertible. Two days later on the second call that day, Chris said his manager told him the car had other problems and those problems caused the engine trouble. My car is sitting with an engine half filled with oil. The sticker from the oil change a month earlier (I have the receipt) is on the window. The oil leak is on the drive way.
I called Progressive's Claims number and a woman told me that her records show that I did report "a leak under the engine" when I called weeks earlier. Didn't they insure my ten-year-old car as is and agree to return it to its original condition, using "like" parts, at an "authorized facility"? They are trying to say that the engine trouble I have now has nothing to do with the accident and is only due to the fact that my ten-year-old BMW has a bad coil in the #2 cylinder. It may have had that prior, it may not have. But when quarts of oil are documented to be on my driveway 1/2 mile from the accident, aren't they responsible for the damage? A mechanic told me that there are canisters behind the grill and if they're damaged, they could leak oil. It's not my fault that their "authorized mechanic" can't find out why it leaked. It leaked because of the accident! Now, I have an undetermined problem with my engine that they say isn't their responsibility. Please help.

** (Progressive Insurance: North Texas Lines Manager) denied my claim based on unfounded evidence that he falsified. I hit a stump with my boat motor which is covered by my policy. The damage was obviously from hitting the stump but he claimed that a mechanical failure within the lower unit was the problem which is not covered. He did this after 2 of his own adjusters had claimed it was “Impact Damage” and it should have been paid by the policy.
After fighting Progressive, they finally paid the claim but the false evidence that ** claimed was the reason he denied the claim has never been seen and he was not held accountable for knowingly engaging in a dishonest practice to avoid paying a claim. The first reason he gave for denying the claim was mechanical failure of the pinion gear. He said this was obvious due to a "failed bearing". There was no "failed bearing" and he has never shown a photo revealing the "failed bearing" even though he never saw the damaged motor except in photos. After he was asked to provide proof of the mystery "failed bearing", he changed the reason from a "failed bearing" to a "rusty seal". That also was a false statement that was proved false and documented when an independent marine surveyor showed that the bearings and seals were in excellent condition. If a policyholder submits a false claim, they are held accountable and prosecuted.
Are claims managers not held to the same standard? Wouldn’t his falsifying evidence be just as fraudulent as an insured lying to fake a claim? Is there no accountability for his deceit? How many claims has he falsified data in the past to avoid paying a claim? And with immunity for these types of actions, how many more will he do in the future? Progressive has asked why I am not satisfied since they paid the claim. They believe by paying the claim this can all be dropped. Progressive needs to be responsive and address what ** has done. By sweeping it under the rug, they are condoning it and are just as unethical as Mr. **. The evidence the damage was due to impact damage is clear. The third party survey report proves there was impact damage. The acknowledgement from 2 of Progressive’s own adjusters that it was impact damage (certified letter from one of the adjusters that states it was not “Mechanical Failure”).
The mechanic that replaced the lower unit has over 25 years’ experience and says it was undeniably impact damage that caused it. Progressive has now admitted it was impact damage and paid the claim. My nephew and I both were witnesses in the boat when the submerged stump was hit. The evidence that Mr. ** knowingly falsified data to deny the claim is even clearer. The third party survey report that proves there was no failed bearing or rusty seal that ** has repeatedly said was the “smoking gun” that led to his denial. Mr. ** has never provided evidence to support what he said he saw and has changed his original reason as to why the claim was denied. This is documented through a conversation he had with his manager.
Progressive will not release the data involving the initial denial of the claim proclaiming that is proprietary information. After asking for the data that supported the denial of the claim, the claim was closed and re-opened under a different claim number without notifying the insured. ** later said it is not company policy to notify the policyholder of a claim closing and reopening under a different claim number. I am now unable to see the old claim. And after contacting the claims hotline was told that it is company policy to notify the insured if a claim is closed and re-opened under a different claim number. Mr. ** has sent sensitive personal information by mail without using a return address or company letterhead to my residence in an attempt to intimidate me.
** has admitted to sending the information to my residence to his manager but says it was not to intimidate and his reason for not including anything in the letter with Progressive’s name on it or a return address is that he figured I would know who it came from. I have the envelope and contents and it seems unlikely that the North Texas Multi-Lines manager would think it is acceptable to send confidential information without any explanation or reference of Progressive or a return address. I received two contradicting certified letters from Progressive on the same day from two separate employees that report to Mr. **; one acknowledging that it was impact damage that caused the damage and another denying it was impact damage. Mr. ** has said this was just a simple mess up.
If someone has any ideas as to what else I could do to bring light to this situation please speak up. I have sent a formal complaint to the Texas Department of Insurance and they are looking into it. But based on what I have read about these incidents the Insurance company and employees that are involved in knowingly using dishonest practices to deny claims are seldom held responsible when caught. The claim was eventually paid but only after challenging the insurance company to provide proof of the reasons given for denial. The person who falsified the information was never held accountable for engaging in a dishonest practice to avoid paying a claim.

I was traveling on the 101 North (Oct. 22, 2009) and got off on an off ramp with total right of way, no other cars in my lane, green light at the end of the ramp (two lane exit ramp). In the left side lane, there were 3 cars stopped and about to proceed as the signal just turned green. The 3rd car, a 2000 black Escalade, decided he wanted to be in the clear lane and from a complete stop, cut me off by just darting into the clear lane that I was in, right in front of me. No signal and admitted, didn't even look or see me. I slammed on my brakes, causing my ABS to react, jolting my car wildly. I hit the dash with my knee and my head went to the steering wheel. In order to avoid him smacking me T-bone style into my driver door, possibly causing serious auto and physical damage, I was able to veer to the right and ran over the curb, causing severe damage to my undercarriage and front end lower bumper.
I have a Jag XKR, very low to the ground. Oil exploded all over the car and smoke entered the cabin. I had to stop after driving around the exit. He u-turned back as he noted he freaked out, apologized for having his mirrors poorly adjusted and we traded info. He said he was responsible and would take care of everything. Progressive told me yesterday they have reversed their standing and since I had no car to car contact, they are denying they are at fault. Scum. I will sue and this driver (and insurance company) are not only a liar, but a very unsafe driver and may have been drunk. His name upon request, lives in Pasadena, has an Arizona license plate, black 2000 Cad Escalade.

I was in a parking lot accident a few weeks ago with someone that was insured by Progressive. The other party admitted numerous times to me and to my insurance company that she did not see me while coming around the building/drive-thru. I was in the process of leaving the parking lot (pretty much already backed out - ready to leave) when the accident occurred. I spoke to Progressive’s 800 # the day of the accident (it was a Saturday) and was given the name of the local agent who would handle everything. I spoke to the agent on Monday (who seemed nice enough) and gave my account of the accident, and I was told that they needed one of their adjusters to look at the damage. I did this on a Thursday at a local per their request and was given an estimate. The adjustor told me at that point they had not heard from the other party and still needed to look at her vehicle.
Monday, I called the agent and still no word from their insured. Wednesday, my husband called and still no word from the other party. Friday morning at 8:30, I received a call from the local agent (who is now very terse and rude) telling me that Progressive has deemed the accident totally my fault, they are not going to pay for anything, and if I have a problem, to take it up with my own auto insurance. He also informed me that this decision was based upon the other party's statement and a video tape that shows me "clearly" backing up into their insured. I'm so taken aback by this. I called my own insurance company who told me that the other party admitted fault to them, and that in cases of a video tape, most stores will only release it by a court order. My auto company had two more quotes done on the damage to my vehicle. The Progressive adjustor did a very low-ball estimate and did not even note some of the damage that the other two shops noted. So, as it stands now, I have to pay our deductible to get the car fixed and our insurance will go after Progressive. So my advice, if you are in an accident with Progressive, deal with your own insurance company first!

My car was damaged while parked in the AutoNation corporate building (200 SW 1st Ave.) in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The person who hit my car, Rebecca ** provided me her insurance information after the accident. I received a call from the Progressive agent (Jamie) to take the car in for repair. I told her, given the damage, I preferred to take it to an authorized Nissan Collision center. I took it to Maroone Nissan Collision in Fort Lauderdale. I took my car in on Thursday, October 15th, as per Jamie (Progessive's request). She assigned me case # **.
As per my discussion with Jamie, I left my car and proceeded to rent a car down the street while my car was evaluated and repaired. I was told by the Nissan Collision store that the Progressive adjuster did not show up as scheduled on Thursday, October 15th. He (Mike **) would stop by on Friday, October 16th, instead. I checked with the body shop the following day on the progress. The Progressive adjuster had not yet shown up. The adjuster did not show up until late in the day and he took pictures, no physical inspection of the vehicle, just pictures. He stated he would follow up with his boss. This was on Friday.
On Monday morning, I received a call from Mike stating that my rental would expire on Monday and that the collision center was overcharging and delaying the repair but that I had the choice of moving my car to a Progressive approved facility. My question is, how can any body shop have a green light to start work on a Friday and have it finished by Monday morning? And yet Progressive is so willing to allow time to relocate my car to another facility for repair and willing to extend my rental if I do so? Wow, talk about a sham. What can I do?

May 29, 2009, our 2004 Ford F150 was stolen out of the yard. We contacted the police department, who found it down a ravine and it had been stripped. Three weeks later, the adjuster contacted us wanting bank statements, copies of all our credit cards, homeowner's policy, paychecks dating back one year. I was working 10-12 hours a day, 7 days a week. We also had family member that were dying. I felt that I had been insured by this company for over 4 years. I always paid my policy on time and that the company was asking way too much. I owed less than $8,000 on my truck. We chose not to send them our financial records as it was none of their business as they were asking for way more information than we had to have to buy our house, not to mention the time that it takes to get the paperwork that was being asked for.
I have now received paperwork in October that we committed fraud. I'm mad as gee. I wasn't late on a single payment to the insurance company. I was not late on truck payment and still got treated like a criminal. I don't even have a ticket on my record.

When a deer hit my car in December 2008, my Mazda 3 sustained extensive damage to the left side and front end. Progressive suggested that I use one of their preferred body shops, but failed to disclose, which they are supposed to by law, that they have a financial interest in doing so (I found out later that they were supposed to disclose that). They towed my car to a body shop that did shoddy repairs and also listed repairs that they didn't even do. I had a post repair inspector examine my car and he found several problems. So, I called my Progressive rep and he blamed it on the body shop manager, who blamed it on his guys. So they attempted to fix my car again.
I took the car to the inspector again and he found more problems. I asked to have my car taken to a different shop, so they took it to a local Mazda dealership. They found a lot of problems. For example, the previous body shop had used a non-OEM hood that wasn't even from a Mazda vehicle, so it didn't fit right. They did a better job but by this time, the repairs reached 75% of the value of my car, the threshold at which they should have declared my car a total loss. To keep from reaching that threshold, they undervalued the repairs and overvalued my car.
Just a month earlier, I had decided to sell the car to get out of the payments. Carmax had offered me $8,500 and the very dealership where I got the third round of repairs done offered me $9,500. Progressive said my car was worth $13,700! They did this to avoid declaring my car a total loss. Also, they counted only the original round of repairs toward the repair cost. They said the supplemental repairs didn't count toward the 75% threshold, which is ridiculous because the first round of repairs was incomplete and unsafe. They even tried to straighten out a damaged upper frame rail instead of replacing it, which is what they're supposed to do to restore the car to its pre-accident condition.
What happened next is unfortunate. I was going to take the car back to my inspector a third time when I lost my job, so I really needed to sell the car to get out of the payments. That rendered me unable to pursue the matter further. But according to my inspector, this happens everyday with every insurance company. In fact, 99% of the vehicles he has inspected had unsafe repairs to them. In only four years in business in a small town called Salisbury, North Carolina, he has gotten $1.5 million worth of vehicles bought back or totaled by the insurance company. That is what should have happened to mine.
I had consulted a lawyer about my case and he wanted to review a synopsis, but then I lost my job and sold the car. Also, my car obviously suffered diminished value, but Progressive told me that they do not honor diminished value - the concept that your car is worthless after an accident, even if it is repaired properly.

I told Kim that I would call her back when got home and checked on line for other quotes. I checked with GEICO and got a quote of $202.00/6 months. Wanting to get the lesser of the two, I went with Kim's quote. I called her back and gave her my debit card number thus concluding our transaction.
After getting an e-mail back showing the policy number and brief policy explanations, I noticed the quote was for 6 months, not 12. I immediately called back and cancelled the policy. This was on 9-22-09. Kim confirmed the policy would be cancelled as of that date and a check would be sent to me for the pre-paid amount (I paid the whole premium). This did not make me very happy because they had deducted the amount directly from my account not 15 minutes earlier. I was obviously stuck with the "It's Progressive’s policy to issue checks" explanation.
It is now 10-5-09, one day short of two weeks, and I have not received a check. I called Kim and was told Progressive would send my check out on 10-7-09 (2 weeks and a day since the original transaction). In spite of the fact that I feel I was deceived from the beginning, I would like to know if there is a time frame for refunds as set up by the Florida Insurance commission and if so, how long? As for any future business dealings with either one of businesses, I will certainly steer and suggest any one reading this do the same. On the Fourth of July weekend in 2009, I was at a private gated membership campground for 10 or so days. I met some wonderful folks who had some horses and we became friends. We were parked up on the "ridge" where you park when you have horses with you. It was very windy, in Julian, CA up there. I went to their ranch in Yuma, AZ with the horses and left the Fleetwood American Dream Motorhome parked across from the new friend's adult children.
I came back the next day and the motorhome had a broken windshield. The awning was damaged. The door got caught in the strong wind when I opened it. I moved the motorhome to a lower spot as I didn't have the horses with me any longer. I called the park security over. They said there were unsupervised kids roaming on the holiday weekend. They also said there had been high winds the entire time I was gone. I called Progressive to see about an adjuster coming out to replace the passenger half of the windshield. They were very nice. No problem, except they never came. I cut vacation short and went to stay at relatives home until it was repaired. Progressive would not repair it. They said they were checking out my policy to see if it "afforded coverage.” I paid $1300.00 to have half a windshield replaced.
It has been over three months and I spoke with the supervisor. I called the adjuster numerous times to come out. I asked for a copy of my policy six times via email and on phone, only to never receive it. The first supervisor said it was a collision claim, not comp. I said, "So? I'm covered either way.” She went on to say it would cause "points" against my driving record. That someone had a spare set of keys to my bus when I was in Yuma (Who, the cat? Plus I had only a set of keys with me). After I told her I had it parked there, I did not drive it to Yuma but drove in truck to Yuma. Then she said I was lying that it was broken while driving the motorhome.
Now, three months later, they sent a letter stating they are not paying because the windshield damage was a result of "wear and tear". I have pictures from that campsite where the windshield shows. No crack or chip. Wear and tear? I just bought it in November of 2008. They are rude, preposterous and just don't want to pay any claim whatsoever. I had to put the windshield on a credit card ($1300.00) and spent three months getting insulted by them just for a common windshield comprehensive claim that is covered, whether it is wind or vandalism. Our son was injured in a car accident on Sept. 29, 2008 when a 16-year old girl with a restricted driver's license pulled out of a parking lot onto a 4-lane road directly into oncoming traffic to make an illegal left hand turn. She pulled directly into our son's path of travel. He only had a second to react. There were only a couple of feet of skid marks; he literally had no time to react. The front of his refurbished 1989 Honda Accord slammed into the side of her car. The police said it was the same as him being in a head-on collision.
The only thing that saved him was his seat belt. His car hit so hard witnesses said the back end came up into the air, and landed in the other lane. His window was down on the driver side so when this happened, even with a seat belt on, his upper body and head snapped out of the window and back in. He was taken to the hospital and suffered bruising around his heart, bruised lungs, severe whiplash, injured shoulder, back injury and bruised ribs. He has gone through physical therapy, missed work, had many X-Rays, CTs, MRIs and was on prescription medications that a neurologist had to prescribe because he suffered from such severe headaches for 6 months after the accident.
We are being devoured by medical bills that our insurance company has not completely covered that we are trying to make payments on. We were not given hardly anything for his car that was totaled so we had to find what we could to replace our son's car so that he could get to school and work. This car has had many repairs we have had to pay for on top of all the medical bills. We are just drowning financially!
Our son was finally released from the doctors on August 25th 2009. We immediately contacted the Progressive agent/supervisor like we had been instructed to do. I now have four bulging disks and one herniated disk in my neck. Both of us had our seat belts on. I had previously seen a chiropractor for a neck and back injury a year prior and had not seen him for a year when this accident occurred because my neck had been fine.
However, because of this accident, it is no longer fine and surgery is the only answer. The woman who hit us lied and was not insured. We carry $150,000 of uninsured motorist. I have been seeing my chiropractor since, until I can get the surgery. They denied chiropractic care last November 2008. I have been paying out of pocket. The person we are dealing with from Progressive says she has nothing stating that I need surgery. They have tried to say I have a lengthy history of neck problems. I went to a chiropractor for a year in 2005, never before and had not seen him for a year when this happened! They just do not want to pay! I could maybe understand if it was the other guy's insurance, but this is my insurance which I have paid for! Being new to the area and having to purchase an auto more quickly than anticipated, I found a vehicle I wanted on a Saturday evening at a prominent Chevrolet dealer. Wanting to secure local insurance and the manager wanting to conclude the transaction, rather than waiting until Monday, he called a local agent who came and arranged coverage there. I only wanted the basic liability coverage, along with $500 deductible for comprehensive and collision. I obtained coverage, Progressive, with the local agent who came to the dealership. I made initial payment and completed forms for monthly ACH withdrawal from my checking account. (I only use this payment method for insurance, solely because I don't wish to risk any lapse if traveling unexpectedly. Something gets lost in the mail, etc.)
I had to travel a lot, and was otherwise quite busy, so I simply paid for 42 months, as each 6-month renewal occurred. I had always felt Progressive to be reliable and a class company. And I had no traffic violations or accidents during this period, and I paid promptly the monthly amount, which averaged $152+ for the 3-1/2 years. When renewal papers for period beginning 15 months ago were higher even than previous amount, on impulse one day, I drove into a State Farm agent's free-standing office parking lot. In about 5 minutes, I had gotten a quote for precisely the same coverage for under $66 per month (a cost less than half, significantly less, of Progressive's).
I don't blame anyone else for my own stupidity in not taking action sooner, and I immediately obtained coverage with State Farm and dropped Progressive. I spent more than $3,600 more than State Farm's rate for identical coverage with Progressive during my period with them. In checking with Progressive home office and regional manager in Texas, I got nothing but yada, yada about rates among providers varying, and the guy in Texas telling me they hated losing a customer. I now place Progressive as being just below the level of loan sharks (at least the latter tell you their fees and terms up front). I urge anybody considering Progressive to go elsewhere and to advise friends and family to do likewise. (PS. I recently got my second renewal from State Farm; after both 6-month periods, rate became lower in the next, due to good driving. My driving was precisely same with Progressive, but got increases from them.)

Three years ago, my sister and I bought insurance together for the first time. We bought liability insurance together at Progressive. We split the payment. Then one year later, my sister got in a car accident. We realized that we need full coverage for our car insurance so my sister bought a different car and she called Progressive for full coverage for 2 cars.
Two years later, I got into a car accident. I called Progressive to get my car fixed. But there is one problem that I would never believe. They said that my car is not covered and my sister’s car is covered. I told them that about my sister asked for full coverage for two cars. They said that if they find the tape that says my sister did ask for full coverage, then they will fix my car. And they said that it will take them few days to do so.
Three weeks later, I kept on calling them. They said that they have trouble finding the tape. And they also said that they don’t take responsible for it. I just busted out and cry, because I was really upset with them. I didn’t have a car for a month. I ask people for a ride to take my son to the doctor or to take my mom go to the market. The feeling of bothering other people is really unbearable to me. I am a student and I save money to pay for car insurance and I thought that I am safe. The next thing I realize is that my car is not covered. Their mistake makes me suffer.

In May of 2005, a vehicle changed lanes in front of me leaving me without time to swerve or avoid them. The driver was at fault and wanted nothing to do with the police. I did manage to swap insurance info and contact info with this lady who then decided to leave before the police, who had been called, arrived. This was less than a fender bender, only minor paint scrapes on both cars. Her vehicle showed even less damage than mine.
I did proceed with reporting the incident to Progressive and declined a claim as the damage would have been less than my deductible anyhow and I did not see fit to pursue the other lady's insurance for such a minor scratch. A representative from Progressive did come out, take photos and said that since it sounded like it was the other person's fault, he would like to keep their info on file. He also informed me that should the other person try to make a claim that I was at fault, they would be in contact with me.
My premium did go up subsequently but Progressive's reasoning behind the rise in premium was for other reasons and they did not at any point between 2005 and now inform me that my premium increase had to do with the fact that indeed the other driver contacted Progressive to file a claim against me being at fault. They paid out $1,711 to this person for a scratch that could have been buffed out. They did this without informing me or giving me the chance to defend the claims against me. Is not the job of an insurance company to look out for those it insures?
I only just now found out because I tried to switch to another insurance company who informed me the claim is in my history. I have been through all my paperwork from Progressive and nowhere does it show this claim in subsequent renewals. They hid this from me by stating other reasons for premium increases. Quotes I have received from other companies are hundreds of dollars less if this incident had not been in my claims history.
I feel I have been paying an unnecessarily high premium as a result of Progressive hiding this info from me (I can't find it anywhere in my paperwork or in the account info available to me) and as a result of Progressive failing to inform me, the claim had been made at the time. All other things equal, and if I receive a quote from Progressive without that claim, I would be saving hundreds of dollars a year.

I have been in an accident. I am fine, but my car was rear-ended by a non-insured driver. My car is a 1991 Ford Mustang 5.0 convertible and it has very low miles (53K). I have had this car for over 17 years, and it's like a child to me. It had been in storage for 6-7 years, which explains the low miles and the good condition. The car had $4,300 damage in the accident and I had gotten several official estimates.
The car is not in perfect condition, but I would consider it in good condition for the age of the vehicle. Over the last few years, I have been restoring it in my spare time. I bought replacement (original Ford parts) for the bumper, fenders, seats, carpet. The vinyl top has been replaced and the transmission rebuilt. It had been maintained regularly. There was some additional trim work to be completed, and then it just needed to be painted. The car then would be in near excellent condition.

I was in a car accident in September 22, 2007. I was rear-ended by another driver, who was insured by Allstate. I got all the information and reported it to my insurance company. Allstate admitted to the fault and said they would fix my car, but my insurance company said no and that they would fix my car and have Allstate reimburse them. Well, my insurance company is Progressive, and they told me I would have to get my car fixed at their preferred shop or I would be responsible for getting my car to the shop and for parts that didn't match with their prices. Also, I would have to pay for a rental car if the shop took a while to repair.
Well, Progressive and their preferred shop committed fraud, lying about my frame not being bent and stating that my parts were new. The adjuster, whose name is Bruce, allowed the shop to fix around the bent frame, so I wouldn't be able to tell. I complained so many times about how the car was performing, only be told that I need some new tires.
After getting new tires and those wearing from the inside out unevenly, I knew I had a major problem. So I complained over and over, only for Progressive to try and lead me back to one of their preferred shops. But I refused and threatened to get a shop of my choice to check the car out. So finally, they said I could take it to a shop of my choice but that I would have to pay for certain work. I didn't agree to that, but the shop did discover that the frame was bent and that the work was not done right.
Progressive knew the car should have been totaled, but they tried to cut corners to cut cost only to make a profit and hide the problem from me. I have proof of what they did, and they still are giving me the runaround. I told the bank about what has happened, but they will not help. It has taken me this long to prove what Progressive and their preferred shop did to only have put me in the hole as far as the car along with my safety. Thank you.

My vehicle was struck by Progressive's client going the wrong way in a one way zone. That driver is 100% at fault! The damage is cosmetic but Progressive has seen fit to call my vehicle a total loss, even though I still drive it every day. I desperately need this vehicle. I am unemployed and cannot afford to replace it, but because it is being called a total loss, I will be forced to accept a salvage title, and my registration will be revoked, making my vehicle useless. How am I supposed to find employment without a reliable vehicle? They are offering less than $600. In reality, how do I replace a vehicle for that money?
I will no longer have transportation to find a job, go to the doctor's office, or go for groceries. I will be left with a vehicle that I cannot use, even though it is reliable, and everything works, all because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. While Progressive rakes in tons of money, they leave me with nothing!

When I moved to Florida two years ago, I was forced to change insurance companies. I got a bunch of quotes and did a lot of research (obviously not enough) and chose Progressive. Big mistake! I am now fighting two battles - one to get my car fixed properly and the second fighting their determination of fault. In November 2008, I was on the highway and was involved in a wreck. The police did not side anyone so no one got a ticket. Well, Progressive decided to fault me and paid for all parties involved to get their car fixed. I called them, as soon as I found out what they had decided, to find out why. Christa, the fault determination adjuster, said that she did not make the decision but that her manager did. I told her to have her call me then. I never got a phone call!
I also asked Christa if they had received the police report and to which she replied, "No, but I did talk to the officer that wrote the report." How are you going to make a determination of fault with no police report? I don't think she even called the officer. It is now July 2009 and I just now found out why they determined me at fault. I had to call the CEO of the company to get to this point. I found out they determined me at fault because there was black paint on the back of the other car involved. The police report clearly says that the damage on the back of that car was from running over a road sign when he went off the road! So tell me again how it is my fault. I have proven that their determination of fault is faulty and they still want to argue about it. I guess the CEO will be getting another phone call. Now getting the car fixed is a whole other matter. I have to take the car back to the shop for the 4th time. You heard me right – fourth!
If you ever get a wreck with a Progressive policy holder, do not let one of their shops fix it. They offer a lifetime warranty on the work and parts they put on your car, but I am telling you now, they don't pay you for all of the inconvenience they will cause you! I took the car to their shop in Orlando FL and it was there for over a week. When they gave it back to me, the paint was bubbled, the rims were peeling from where they 'reconditioned' them, the body kit was not put on properly, and they didn't put the weather stripping back on the door properly! Hello, did they really think I was going to take the car in that condition? Well I left it for them to fix the problems and they called me back two hours later saying that the car was ready. Not! I was going out of town the next week so they made me take the car and return the rental and schedule a time to bring it back when I got back in town. I was so mad.
My car sat in Orlando while I went out of town since it was not fixed right. I took it back to a shop in Sarasota (since the work there was done so poorly) and they had it for another week. They glued the ripped body kit gasket back together and put it back on the car, 'reconditioned' the rims again, said that the rattle in the roof was not their problem and actually fixed the paint job. Within two weeks, the rims started peeling again and once again the car went back to the shop, where they had to buy an entire new front bumper cover and front body kit and new rims. Well now there is a problem with the alignment, the tire pressure sensors, and now the paint on the door has become a problem. Once again I had to call the CEO to get anything done. The car is going to Toyota on Tuesday to have everything fixed the correct way! If this is not proof enough that Progressive is the worst insurance company, I don't know what will convince you!

My wife's dump truck was being driven by an employee and he rear ended a 1991 Toyota Camry. It was a fender bender damage. The estimate to repair was just over $2000. Progressive sent us a subrogation bill for $13,824.18. Unfortunately, our insurance had lapsed for the accident’s few days. I checked Kelley's Blue Book and the value of the car is only $1650.00 if in excellent condition. So, they totaled the car. That I understand. Where the other amount comes from, I do not understand.
I believe there was an emergency room visit for a little girl in the car, but there’s no bodily injury. It looks to me like Progressive is trying to milk what they consider a big business and we're not. We're trying to hold on and have to use debt consolidation to keep the business alive until things get better. He had me purchase an additional $10,000 Full Replacement Cost coverage for my computer and ham radio equipment. I believed him.
6 months after I purchased the Progressive policy from them, I was parked next to a building that took a lightning hit. The adjuster came out to look over all our ruined electronics. I had $6000 worth of damage. I was glad I had purchased the extra insurance. But wait! $10,000 Full Replacement Cost does not mean $10,000 full replacement cost. It only means up to $2,500 per category, and It only means up to $1000 per item! What a surprise. They would only pay me $3000 for the $6000 in damage no matter that I paid for Full Replacement Cost.
This company is a ripoff, either because they don't know how to insure people or they are dishonest about it. I only asked for John to make sure I was covered. He did not. They said there was nothing they could do and that I should buy more coverage for the next time.

My car was stolen out of my driveway a week ago. Made a police report. I was asked if I had both sets of keys, and at the time, I did. Called Progressive to file claim the same morning. I had a second interview with a doctor as I just graduated from school for medical administrative assistant in March 09. So I was very upset to know i had this interview and no car. I came to find out I had rental use which was good, but that I had 1000.00 deductible. The next day, somehow I did the interview upset, but kept my head straight, after feeling violated by a theft of my car. Police found my car by 10 a.m. that morning all tires and rims were gone. Had appointment with Progressive after the interview and it was the most upsetting interview I have ever had to endure. The agent wanted the second set of keys, I could not find them. Then he drilled me on smoking, I do not smoke, who smoked in my car? Did I let anyone use my car that smoked? It was ridiculous. The last time I saw the other set of keys, my daughter cleaned the car out. So now he needs to talk to her. Then he tells me he notices a leaky head gasket. I said my car was in good condition. 2001 Grand Am GT 92000 miles.
So then he proceeded to tell me I needed tires. I said, no, I just bought tires in 2004. He disagreed and said I was responsible for up to 50% of wear and tear of tires by somehow my mileage then, and now I said okay. After drilling my daughter with the same questions we were both upset. Come Monday morning, I got a call from the police department to come in. I thought there was a followup. But I was wrong. They said, there were too many red flags on the claim. The other key was gone. When I said I had both sets and all the thief took was tires. He said something unusual, I didn't get it. Then he proceeded to say if I just confessed, it's not like a homicide or murder, I wont get in that much trouble. I blew up then. The claim guy and police department think I had my car stolen! I said where is my motive I have 1000.00, he said car was worth 5000.00, and my deductible brings down to 4000.00 in my pocket. So now i went from a nice car to 4000.00 in my pocket? I am extremely upset. Claims guy had taken samples of fluid from my car to be tested. Meanwhile I retained an attorney for 1250.00. Harrassment, falsely thinking I stole my own car. Now costing my 2250.00 for the loss of my car. The grief and feeling violated by whoever took my car. I went from victim to criminal in less than a week. So as soon as this is taken care of, I am cancelling Progressive Insurance and would advise anyone not to think they are all that. I am not a thief, I did get that job as of today and I am waiting to see what they do next.

Since I have been in my accident on July 28, 2007, I have continued to have water issues in my car. I have been rejected time and time again to having my car fixed. I have made trips back and forth to the body shop and to the Progressive service center several times. There are so many things to say about the exhausting experience I have had with Progressive that I can't keep the name out of my mouth on a daily basis because anyone who sees my car is curious about why a teenage girl could hate her beautiful Mercedes so much, but as soon as they get in, the many reasons are apparent. There has been a leaking issue, which has caused several electrical issues in my car. Some of which I have paid to have it fixed myself.
As I drive on a rainy day, I can hear water dripping onto metal somewhere inside my car. I checked the forecast to see if it's going to rain so I can try to get a ride from someone else or not drive at all to prevent further damage to my car. Some of the problems this has caused are the control buttons on the console going out, which includes the windows, side view mirror adjuster and trunk release. The air conditioning also does not work due to some electrical problem with the buttons, which may or not be caused by the leak or the accident. I had the pressure sensors for the console buttons fixed last year, but when the summer rains came, they stopped working again, which is what made me decide this was related to leaking. My headliner is falling off all over the car due to the dampness on the roof. The headliner is also falling off the sunroof for the same reason, which means I can't open and close the sunroof.
I fan the doors at red lights since I can't role down my windows, open my sunroof or turn on the air conditioning in the Florida summer heat. When it rains and my windows fog from all the humidity in my car, I have to wipe my windshield of my Mercedes with a rag. I'm drenched in sweat anywhere I go. What was once my dream car has been daily misery ever since the wreck. This problem is deteriorating the condition of my entire car. I don't know where this leak is coming from or if it's from more than one place, but I've been dealing with it for over a year now. These problems either need to be fixed or if the damages are too costly or just too much of a hassle, then my car needs to be replaced. On February 8, 2008, I brought my car in to the Progressive service center to have them look at some paint bubbles that were apparent in the paint job they had previously done. They said they were going to take it in the back to try and buff it out. You can't buff out paint bubbles.
I went to sit and wait in the lobby when thirty minutes later, a service representative came to inform me that it wouldn't be much longer and that one of their technicians took it down the road to a car wash and would be back shortly. I went outside to wait for them to return. I watched him pull off the street into the parking lot with my car and the sunroof was open in the tilt position. I informed the service representative, who was standing next to me (his name was James), that I noticed that the sunroof was open. He said nonchalantly, "oh he just opened it back up". I got into the car and felt like I smelled something burning or melting, and as I put my hand on my shifter, I noticed it felt unusually warm. I noticed streams of soapy water down the inside of my windshield and I wiped them off with the sleeve of my windbreaker jacket. On the jacket, I could see the white smears from soap. I continued to wipe off the water from my center console and armrest, my steering wheel, my seat and both door panels. It was now dusk and I just wanted to go home because I was so mad at their **.
I got about half a mile down the road when I decided that the increasing heat and smell from the area of my gear shifter was not normal. Yes, I leaned over to sniff and found that the burning smell was coming from the shifter. I turned right around and told James that I'm aware that it was taken through the car wash with the sunroof open, and that if anything for some reason went wrong in my car because of it, that I'd be back and they would be responsible. I asked the name of the man who took it through the car wash and he said, Bob. He went inside to get Bob, who told me that he closed the sunroof when he went through the car wash and opened it when he came back. Being a 17-year old girl with her first car, I didn't know that the world was cruel enough that I needed to get written recognition of this problem from a manager to insure justice. From the service center, I planned to go straight to my friend's house in Ponte Vedra before I had planned to go home.
It's about a twenty minute drive from the service center to my destination and probably about 9 o' clock. I didn't make it before my car lunged forward as I was waiting to cross an intersection. It would lunge, sputter as I tried to give gas but it only jumped and stopped, jumped and stopped. Luckily, I was able to coast through the intersection without being t-boned and the road was downhill so I shut the car off and coasted to the side. I waited three hours till 12 o' clock for a tow truck. It was towed to AAMCO transmissions where they said I needed a new transmission. We wanted a second opinion so we had it towed to Mercedes. All this towing was at our expense. Mercedes said that I did need a new transmission. We found a used transmission for $5000, the labor at Mercedes was $1000, then we had to get new seals for it which was $500. When I asked Mercedes why this happened, they said it looked like water damage.
Some other little things: When my car was returned after McCormick did work last year, my driver side view mirror was apparently broken or knocked out because I noticed that it had an orange tint to it when it was returned. Since the rains, this orange tint or dye is deteriorating and now the mirror is half orange and half clear. That needs to be replaced too. The bubbles in my paint that I brought it in for when they took my car through the car wash with the sunroof open were never fixed. One bubble that was on the trunk popped and now it looks like a paint chip. I mentioned this when it was small, but I was shunned and it is still growing as I expected. My sound system is again, after having been repaired last year, acting up because of the leak. My emblems still have not been fixed. There is glue and scratches around the emblem and the emblem is loose.
2.5 years of anger and frustration, $5000 for transmission, $500 for transmission seals, $1000 Brumos Mercedes installation, $100 to fix pressure sensors on console and more than ten hour long trips across town to repair shop and "service center".

I was recently in an accident. I have been driving for eleven years without so much as a ticket or a minor claim. I had an accident due to a semi forcing me off the road. The compassionate police officer at the scene could tell it was not my fault and I did not receive a ticket. However, Progressive really stuck it to me! First, they claimed I did not have rental coverage even though I'm holding in my hand a policy that shows that I do. Apparently when I renewed my policy with them, that mysteriously dropped. They're claiming I made changes to my policy. There goes $200 for a week of rentals.
If that was not bad enough, they claimed that I am partially to blame and are still determining what they are going to pay. I'm sorry, but I was under the assumption that collision coverage covered the cost of damage to my car if I was in an accident. I've had to take out an additional student loan to cover the rental and deductible. I can't afford to pay for repair costs if they deny them. I'm so stressed out about this! I hate this company!

I contacted Progressive and they made an appointment for me to take the car into their service center for an estimate (5 days from date of damage). In the meantime, I took my car to two reputable body shops (one was the Cadillac dealership and the other a discount body shop). One estimate was $4,200 and the other was $6,200.
I arrived at their service center and waited an hour and a half for the estimate. I was told that I would use their concierge service which I told them that I wanted to control the repair of my car and to issue me a check to pay for repairs. Their estimate for repairs was $931, over $3,000 less than my cheapest estimate. I refused the check and asked them for another estimate. They told me if I used their concierge service, it would only cost me my deductible ($500). They were also estimating it would take three to four weeks (I have no rental coverage) to repair where both body shops estimated a week. After calling my claims rep, he said (in so many words) either I use the concierge service or all I'll get is $931. It sounds a bit like extortion to me. I am going to invoke my appraisal clause and retain an attorney if needed.

I had requested to cancel my auto policy with my agent through Jesberger Insurance well before it renewed. I also emailed Progressive myself to be sure this got done prior to having the renewal fee taken out of my bank acct. Well, that was on 4-10-09. Progressive went ahead and took the money from my bank acct. and I still have not been refunded. My ins. agent says they are working on it, but still I see nothing. This little error also caused my acct. to be overdrawn and cost me over $200 in bank fees. I am not working now and this really hurt. I advise everyone, do not use Progressive. They are not honest and I will not use auto pay anymore either. I can highly recommend 21st Century Ins. I have used them in the past for many years. I had a car stolen and they paid the claim very fast. They are the least expensive and very professional.

Dealing with this claim representative was like dealing with a robot. This individual failed to explain the procedures used in their appraisals and their definition of what is considered a "total loss" as well as conducting a thorough investigation of the accident. Progressive simply looked at the police report and made a brief phone call to the driver in front of me, and then decided I was at 100% fault. It appeared to me that they do the investigation as a matter of formality and do not look at the big picture. They obviously were trying to assign blame to me from the outset for the accident. I tried to explain to them that anybody would have hit the vehicle ahead of them like I had if that vehicle had slammed their brakes and switched lanes abruptly to avoid hitting the vehicle ahead of them, but they were stubborn and unwilling to listen.
I asked them to defer their judgement of assigning a degree of "at fault" until after the court date, but they were adamant about assigning 100% fault to me. They even exploited their position on the issue, stating that there could have been a child in the backseat of the car ahead of me! In their defense, I did talk to the supervisor who clarified some of the issues; but I was still very disappointed about how they handled this claim. Also, the contract they sent so they could service the vehicle at their service site was signed by my father and not by myself. Had I received the contract, I would have reconsidered even sending the vehicle to their service center. They also stated that if they repaired the vehicle themselves, they would not pay more than approximately $5K because of fees associated with salvage.
The whole process seemed confusing and their approach unfair. They are ultimately only concerned, in my opinion, to their bottom line and not about the client's well-being.

On 4/9/09 around 5:30 pm, my car was parked at the 5th floor of my office parking building. Another car parked at the 6th floor was leaking gas to my car's roof and doors. The building management called the fire department to fix this problem. The next day, that car's owner gave me all his insurance information. His insurance company is Progressive. On 4/10/09, I called them and sent them all pics I took. On 4/15/09, the guy who worked on my case, Geoff **, sent me an email and said he was waiting for his supervisor's decision. On 4/17/09, he called again and asked me to drive 7 miles to their service center. After I told him I had no time to do that, he said he would send somebody to check my car on Monday.
On 4/20/09, a guy came to see my car at around 12:30 pm. What he did was to check if the gas smell was still in the car (they wait 10 days to do this, and I washed my car twice) and took some pics. Since the damages to the paint did not show yet, so they said they needed to wait 1-3 months until the damage show up. So that's why they waited 10 days and then send an adjuster to check the car. From the first day, they had already made a decision of not going to accept any liability for this case. I saw Progressive Insurance advertising almost every day on TV. Now I know how bad they are.

On 2/14/09, my vehicle was struck by the driver of a large SUV in a valet parking lot. The valet driver was attempting to leave the lot to bring my car back when the vehicle was struck in the driver's rear quarter panel, smashing the entire area around the tire. The SUV driver had ignored the do not enter sign and was attempting to self-valet park because the valet line was too long according to her. When I arrived on the scene, she was very belligerent and yelling at the valet driver that he was driving too fast. She tried to rush me, but I insisted on calling the police because of her behavior. The police placed the blame on the SUV driver, based on the damage and the location of both vehicles. An incident report was completed.
After the fact, the SUV driver claimed that the valet driver hit her vehicle with mine - although she never made that claim on the day of the incident. But the damage was clearly side impact and logistically impossible unless my car moved sideways into her front driver's corner bumper. But Progressive took her word, despite the type of damage, and would not accept the police incident report which clearly states ** GMC Yukon at fault. So on top of that, she filed a claim against my insurance company. There was paint on the corner (only) of her front driver's bumper, further substantiating how the incident occurred. My claims adjustor never got a statement from her because she did not return any phone calls.

My son, 17, took my spare key and totaled my car. Progressive had a tow truck bring my car to one of their shops, sent an adjuster and said my car was totaled. I still owe $5,600.00 on my car and they are only going to give me $5,096.00, minus a $500.00 deductible. They are telling me they are deducting some because of the mileage. I drive 41 miles to work everyday. They are also telling me my car had previous damage that was covered up. If this is so, then the dealer never told me this. Now I still owe on my car and I am without a vehicle. I have to save enough to put another down payment on a car. I am borrowing cars to get to work and what about the days I can't get to work when there is no car to borrow? What if I lose my job over this mess? Progressive gave me until today, 4/17/2009, to agree with their payment or I will have to start paying storage fees in their shop.

My house was robbed on Christmas day. My husband and I were visiting his parents in Mohave Valley, AZ. The thieves stole the car out of my garage, along with everything of value in my house. I filed my claim on the 27th of Dec. 2008 and Progressive has fought me every inch. When making the claim, they tried to make me take it to one of their body shops. They didn't give me an option. They told me that was how they handled claims. I knew better and had the car moved before they could take it.
After that, they were more difficult. They refused to send someone out to do an estimate on my car (my car was a 2007 Cadillac CTS in perfect condition with 16000 miles on it). Instead, they wanted to use pictures. My car is completely stripped, most the wiring is torn out, seats are gone. The car sits like it's twisted (the car was pushed by both sides with a loader, bulldozer) and the doors have holes in them and are pinched where the two doors meet. They are not including all this information in their estimate. Also the stereo and stereo equipment are not included in their estimate. They want to use non-OEM parts in my car. My car is less than a year old and it was perfect.
Using these parts will diminish the value of my car and void my factory warranty. Using said parts will not return it to pre-loss condition. Before it was stolen, it was under warranty. They have also told me if I wanted the non-OEM parts to be guaranteed, I would have to send it to one of their shops. Isn't that illegal? They are delaying my claim process and I feel I'm not being treated fairly. I had to fight with them for a month and a half to get them to have someone even look at the car.
On top of this, I asked the body shop to get an estimate on how much it would cost to fix my car's mechanical problems and they were not set up to do so. So I wanted to have my car moved to Cadillac so they could get a full estimate, and the insurance co. said that I would have to pay the storage, the storage they racked up for not being timely with my claim! How is that my fault? I'm being pushed around, ignored, and violated again. Dealing with Progressive is as bad as getting robbed. They avoid my phone calls and use smug attitudes to intimidate me, and it is wrong.
My husband and I are victims and we are treated as crooks. My husband worked hard to buy that car and now we are left with a pile of useless and worthless parts. Every attempt to receive documentation about my claim has failed. They are knowingly withholding information from me and my broker, and are doing everything in their power to lowball my claim and make me feel there is nothing that I can do.

I never heard anything until April 6, 2009. I called 4 times before and got different answers because he was out of the office until March 31, 2009. I never heard anything until I called again on March 7. I was told he was still working on it and that they would not pay the whole amount because they only cover basic insurance on the rental.
Well I was told because my wife and I will be driving, it would be better to get the insurance. I talked to him. I told him he should have told me or he should have made the arrangement for the rental car. Now they still haven't paid and it's April 8, 2009. On August 16, 2008, I was rear-ended by an individual insured by Progressive Insurance. Since that time, Progressive Insurance claims reps and Ryan **, the attorney that represents Progressive, have tried to screw me out of my property damage claim and personal injury claim also. I suffer cervical, thoracic and lumbar herniated disc along with soft tissue damage as a result. Progressive claims reps and the attorney, Ryan **, have all said that it was a low speed collision.
There was $2000 damage to my truck and the left frame rail was bent 12 mm. There was $1900 in damage to the van that hit me. The police report stated that the individual driving the van that hit me admitted he was not watching the road and had turned around talking to individuals in the back seat. When he turned back around, he then noticed I was stopped at a stop light and he hit me.
I had to go through 5 claims reps and a senior claims rep that oversees the Orlando Florida claims office before it was resolved. The first estimate by Progressive claims rep was for $63. The second claims rep put the damage estimate at $400 and after finally going to the top, the settlement was $2,224.86. What a difference in estimates. That was when I fully realized that Progressive Insurance is out to screw accident victims.
Since that time, I have had MRIs, physical therapy and massage therapy along with pain medication. When trying to settle the personal injury claim, the 1st offer was $10,000. Then I decided to have an attorney get involved because the amount of physical damage that exists and the eventual surgery that will be needed at some point is well worth $100,000 or more. Well, having an attorney involved increased the offer from Progressive Insurance to $12,500. What a joke!
Due to the way the laws are written in Florida and the way the system operates, if you have to pursue this through the court system, Progressive will eat up any settlement that you get with expenses incurred through the legal process.
I have constant pain and difficulties as a result of the accident and Progressive Insurance sees this as a low impact collision. The reason they see it this way is that anyway they can screw accident victims out of a claim, it saves them money and increases their profit.
Ryan **, Progressive's attorney is a complete parasite, slime ball that couldn't care less that their insured caused the accident and the amount of damage, personal and physical. All he cares about is saving Progressive Insurance money. Screw the victim.
I have enough information through this experience to write a book about Progressive tactics - they wrote the book on how to screw accident victims. Progressive Insurance is consistent of what is going on across the United States with big business. They take money for the insurance premiums but when it is time to pay, all of a sudden, they find any possible way not to pay a claim. Ryan ** and Gregg ** are the slime of the insurance industry and Progressive Insurance is full of these individuals. Apparently they have no souls and do not believe in karma.
I hope they all get paid back in some way for the way they treat accident victims. This type of business practice needs to change and Victims should not have to go through what I have been through to settle a claim. Progressive Insurance employees are the lowest form of human existence. With or without an attorney, you are screwed unless you can find another way to get back at these individuals.
As this progresses, I will come back and write the final outcome.

I bought a $30,000 car, a Chevy Equinox 2005. I got all the bells and whistles thinking that I would have this car for a very long time and I had no thought in my mind that it would not last given my previous history with Chevy/GM vehicles. I was right for the first 4 years; I never had to jump the car let alone have any major repairs done. I paid the vehicle off last year and was finally able to fully enjoy the car with no strings attached.
On March 7th, 2009, I drove my Equinox to Lake Forest, IL during the day and came back home to Chicago around 6:30p m and parked the vehicle in my parking lot. I went back to the car around 10:00 pm and the keyless entry would not work. I tried to start the car and absolutely nothing happened. It was pouring rain so I did not open the hood until the following day, 3/8/09. When I did, we instantly could smell something burnt and what I assumed was the fuse box looked melted. I called my mechanic Monday morning and had the car towed in instantly. I did not take it to the dealer right away because frankly the dealership that I had bought the car from was no longer there and the location had changed names 4 times (Lynch, Mizera, Z Frank, and now Mike Anderson) in the last 4 years.
My mechanic called me and said that I should get my insurance involved so I did. I called Progressive and stated that something had happened to my car and that things inside the car were burnt, meaning a possible fire had occurred. They said that they would contact GM and that if anything they would get the car fixed and then take it up with GM after. Two weeks into the process, Progressive says that I am not covered since there was an exclusion(?) in my policy that if the damage is confined to Electric, then I am not covered. Mind you, at this time, we did not have any estimate or know the extent of the damage nor did we know what the cause was. And we still do not!
My father and I continued to call GM. A woman named Leslie with customer service told him to get the car to a dealer, so we did. She also assured us that they were looking into the situation and that someone will be out to look at the car. After 2 weeks of the runaround, we were advised to call the Legal department. The Legal Department then told my father that there is a law in Illinois that GM cannot do anything after 4 years of the car's life. It's unbelievable, especially since the car was about 1.9 month past that date (1/10/2009) when this happened and it only has about 40K miles on the vehicle. Also if this was the case, why were we led on for 2 weeks and not told this instantly?
It is now 4 weeks after the incident. I am very disappointed in GM and Progressive and the entire situation. I paid $30,000 of very hard-earned money on a car thinking it had the best warranty in America (so the GM commercials say) and it did not even last 4.2 years without completely breaking down and being worthless. I was told on Friday that it would be at least $10,000 to fix the car and neither GM nor Progressive are stepping up to help in the situation.

This is the first claim I've submitted and my feeling is that they just don't want to pay. I feel I have no choice but to change carriers. Amica is the best, a little more expensive but they pay and are professional. They look good in the ads but they don't cover you and that's what you're really paying for.

I was rear-ended by a Progressive policy holder and my right rear section plus tail lamp had to be completely replaced. When I got the car back a week later, I noticed on my way from Progressive to work that my right turn signal was making a doubly-fast clicking noise when I turned it on - my boss told me as soon as I got to work that meant the bulb was out. That should have been part of the repair since the right rear tail light was crushed in the accident!
When I called Progressive, they said they weren't responsible for bulbs (even though the tail light was 100% functioning before the accident)! Then, the phone representative, who I later learned was the supervisor at the Progressive office, looked at photos from my accident and said she couldn't tell if all 3 bulbs had been decimated. It seems to me that if the entire tail lamp had to be replaced and the bulbs were all working before, that it would be part of the repair. On top of which, if she couldn't tell from photos, Progressive doesn't even document their work very well. She told me the bulbs didn't cost very much - implying I should just fix it myself. She said I could bring it in for a courtesy replacement (it shouldn't even be courtesy! It should be part of the repair!).
I was irritated at the inconvenience, but went ahead to O'Reilly Auto Parts. The O'Reilly guy and I both tried to remove the tail lamp cover, but neither of us could get it off. I didn't want to break it, or it wouldn't be covered by Progressive.
When I called back the next morning to try and schedule a re-repair, the man on the phone was the same one who had given me my car back the previous day. He was rude on the phone. He talked over me and cut me off and was not listening. He said he had given me the car himself so it was fine. I said he hadn't sat there and watched me try the turn signal. Why would I do that when the car was parked in front of Progressive? As a matter of fact, he didn't watch me try anything. He launched into a vehement speech about how Progressive would never let a car out with that problem because it is a liability - exactly my point. So basically he was implying that Progressive doesn't make errors like that. Well they did.
So after arguing with him for 5 minutes, I said it didn't even matter because the female rep from the previous night's phone call had already offered a "courtesy repair." In a very tight voice and clearly annoyed, Arthur gave me the supervisor's name, fax number and phone number. When I requested the repair for the following day (a Friday) all he said - in his very tight voice - was, "We don't do re-workups on Friday." I had to then ask, "Then which days do you take them?" He was very unhelpful and clearly being belligerent and passive-aggressive.
I would never ever, ever buy Progressive as my own personal insurance. Not only do they have very, very few locations in the city (Houston which is a large and highly populated city!) to take your car to compared to other car insurance companies, their customer service was awful. I still have no answer on when or if the tail light problem will be fixed. I may get a ticket or in another accident with a turn signal light bulb out. But Progressive doesn't care as long as it doesn't cost them anything. Plus, this is costing me time off work to have this dealt with - again.
I will say that my claims rep, Bridgiel **, was a shining star - extremely, kind, intelligent, helpful and informative. I would promote her if it was my company.

In April 2008, I was in a small collision in a shopping center parking lot. The woman involved was an elderly woman. The police arrived on scene and ruled no one at fault but advised me to notify my insurance company. Progressive, that there were no injuries and the woman had a neck brace in her back seat. Neither one of us had stop signs but I stopped and proceeded with caution before crossing into the next parking lot. Then out of nowhere, this lady's car was in front of mine.
After talking to my adjuster, I was told that each party would be responsible for their own damages and that I needed to bring my car in for an estimate. Due to my hectic work schedule, I asked the gentleman to come to the scene which was 3 minutes from my house. He never came but he kept insisting that I draw a diagram of the parking lot. This would be difficult to do as I am not an artist and the parking lot was a little complicated to read and could be better explained in person. After all, Progressive's policy is that they come out to investigate for their customers.
In order to get my car fixed, I had to pay my minimum in which I did not have the money to do so at the time so I decided I would wait. The damages to both cars were minor. Almost a year later, I got an email of my renewal statement saying that my monthly bill was about $100 more each month! I was totally confused and called the insurance company where I was notified that I had been put at fault for the accident. The adjuster never came to the scene; the gentleman who put me at fault had never even spoken to me. They never sent me anything notifying me of this decision.
It was totally unprofessional and to make things worse, they had already started paying for this lady's damages. Once I began to complain, they decided to come out on 1/16/08 (almost a year later). I am 4 1/2 months pregnant and waiting in the cold for the adjuster who arrived 30 minutes late. He came, listened to me, took pictures and then called me 1/20/08 and said, "I fought for you (yeah, right) but the decision remains the same". The way I look at it, they paid for this lady's damages temporarily and now I'm paying for it permanently.

I would never do that. Plus Emily said they would wait for the tape of the call and see if I removed it. After 7 days, Emily said that the tape had nothing about me removing collision, but still wouldn't fix my car. She wanted to request any other tapes there might be now, but instead called and said now I went online, deleted the coverage and then called a few minutes later which is the convo they had on tape! That makes no sense.
Why would I delete one thing online and then call to make other changes via the phone? I asked for proof and she faxed a copy of an email someone sent her at two something in the morning! All it says is the caller name and my name (this is supposed to be proof I made a change online). It just shows I had coverage and then below it says no collision coverage! I called and said it made no sense. They agreed I had another car on that policy that was older and I only owe $6,000 compared to my new car ($30,000), and that old car still has collision coverage on it! I would never take a collision coverage off. That is the whole point people have insurance! But they will not help us even though it showed we had collision on both cars since we first started with them!
I also never signed anything agreeing to changes that I never made, but they said that doesn't matter due to the fact that they say they sent something in the mail (which if I had gotten, I would have called right away to find out why the collision was missing)! I have been in a nightmare with this company and my wife has gotten extremely sick due to us not having the money to fix our car! I hope someone can help us because it just can't be right!

On Jan 31st of 2008 I was involved in an accident. I was driving down the road and approaching an intersection which I had a green light. Some 73 year old woman decided that it would be a good idea to try to make a left from the opposite direction as I was passing thru the intersection. The police were called and the woman was taking to the hospital. I spoke with the officer and tried to get as much information as possible. The office informed me that the accident was NOT my fault and that the other driver failed to yield to MY RIGHT OF WAY!!! The accident had totaled both vehicles. I received the police report which state that the other driver failed to yield. I sent this over to my insurance company. This is when things became interesting.
The other driver's daughter is a manager at Liberty Mutual. They do car insurance and she knew how to play the game. She demanded that the police officer amend the report stating her side of the story. The Story went like so, she states that I drove on the wrong side of the road and ran the red light and then hit her. Now I spoke with the officer and he informed me that the damage that occurred on the vehicles does not concur with her story. He said and I quote, "Her story makes NO sense to me!" I informed Progressive of this and they told me not to worry because they do not pay liars. I waited and continued to call my adjuster to find out any new information. I called the adjuster for a week straight and had got no calls back. Finally I called Progressive to see what the problem was. They informed me that the original adjuster was transferred and a new adjuster is handling my case. No one called me and informed me of this. I called the new adjuster and ask what was going on. She informed me at this time that both insurance companies have agreed to handle this as 50/50.
I have a police report that states that this accident was not my fault. But without my knowing and compliance they came to an agreement. I had Progressive and she had AIG. I informed the adjuster that this was insane. She told me that there was nothing I could do. Now my car was worth about $5k and I got half that the car was worth. I was willing to go to court over this, but was told by the adjuster that since the police report stated that the accident was not my fault that this would not go on my record as an accident. I figured that I should not waste anymore time for $2k dollars. I let it go and moved on.
On 10/9/08 I looked at my policy with Progressive and saw that there is an accident on my record. It is $168 charge every 6 months and all of my charges and risk factors are thru the roof which raised my monthly payment. I called progressive and they have on my file that the accident was not my fault but I am still being charged for it. I am now waiting to hear from them after speaking to a supervisor. I think that Progressive is a horrible company. Stay away!

I was driving a U-Haul and my partner was driving a U-Haul. I was sideswiped by a drunk driver and my partner was hit head on flipping the truck. We both sustained injuries but were thankful to be alive. We went in for treatment believing our insurance would kick in and pay the medical bills. That was in March 08 and just received a letter that Progressive has paid my medical under PIP but refuses to pay my partner's medical stating he is not on the policy and that we are not legally married. He is on the policy as a rated named insured and we should have equal coverage on our policy. Progressive is just trying to get out of paying his portion of PIP. This is very frustrating. I feel that we were misrepresented when we took out this policy.
Now we are in collections. Progressive also will not pay because of vehicle weight limit on the policy that we were not aware of. I don't feel that this is right as we had insurance and both of us were listed on the declarations page. We lost everything in this accident and believed that we would be covered. Now we have U-Haul coming after us for damages, we have no furniture and we have collections after us. My partner had to stop going to physical therapy because we do not have the money to pay and has to work and is still in pain. All because we thought that we were going with a reputable company for auto insurance and it is the law to have it. We also cannot find an attorney to take on this case. Our attorney we did have dropped us because he said that the person who hit us has no assets. Did I mention that this happened in the Navajo Nation on a state highway?

My son lives in Las Vegas; he was involved in an auto accident where a person ran a stop sign and hit my son on the back passenger side of his car. He took it to a shop that Progressive recommended so the damage could be assessed. Prior to this incident, everything on my son's car was in good working order; I know this is true, because my son bought the vehicle from the car lot that his dad and I own.
After the accident, however, everything did NOT work correctly. Both rear passenger windows were knocked off track as a result of the accident. My son took pictures of the damage while the auto repairman had the doors taken apart to examine them the day after the accident happened. Progressive told my son that the windows coming off track was not a result of the accident, and are refusing to pay to have them repaired, even though my son has pictures proving otherwise. Also, another incident occurred as a result of this refusal to honor their policy promises-- thieves broke into my son's car through that broken window, and cut wires in his panel, and destroyed his ignition switch in an attempt to steal his car.
Progressive Insurance agents are lying their butts off to get out of a repair that is obviously a direct result of an accident that they, if they were honest and had any integrity to speak of, would have honored their policy promises, but somehow, Progressive doesn't seem a fitting name for this company, nor does the word honor describe them; I believe DIGRESSIVE would be a more apt and true title.

Going across the lake, my boat motor all at once shut down. I called progressive and told them what happened and that I thought it was an ethanol problem. The motor was sent to the rebuilders with 35 years experience and they found not lack of oil in the motor and the pistons have mineral deposits upon them showing an ethanol problem. The computer had low oil codes, however, the rebuilder stated that it was not an oil problem and all of the bearings etc were oiled. There was a sample taken of the fuel and left in the boat for the adjuster, yet they did not take one of their own and would later stated that they could not use the one provided. The rebuilder also found ethanol in the motor. progressive has been over a month and now states that their answer, if they had to settle today would be no coverage. There is coverage against and explosion and that is what happened inside the motor which oil will not mix with water, so the ethanol made the engine burn to lean.

I currently own a 1975 Cobra Streaker boat. It's in exceptional shape. On July 30 of this past summer my propeller and lower prop hit something under water and we came to a stand still. I was towed in and the very next day I took the unit to my mechanic. I then filed a claim with Progressive Insurance company who provides the insurance for my boat. At that point, Progressive started their investigation into the accident. EVery three days they would tell my mechanic to take one piece of the lower unit and then two days later they would have their expert come and take a look.
After two weeks and only removing the lower unit they stated they would not cover the repair because they believe it was a mechanical issue. They stated there was water in the gear box and a lack of oil. They stated they see the break on the outside of the caviture plate but that doesn't cost much to fix. The mechanic repeatedly told them that there clearly was an accident because there is a fresh break in the caviture plate, and after he (mechanic) investigated further on the problem, he found that a seal had been blown which caused water to enter the gear box, remove gear oil and break gears. He states that this seal cannot be blown unless a hard impact occurs because it is under engine pressure. He also stated if this water was previously in the gear box there would be shades of black burned into the gear ring and there wasn't. It looked like brand new.
My mechanic who has been in the boat repair industry for forty years and repairs about 50 I/O engines a year says that he is certain the reason for the lower unit gears malfunctioning is because of the contact the boat made with the object underneath the water. He states that this insurance company is wrong and they should cover my repair. I went ahead and had the unit repaired for a cost of $4,100.00.
I don't know a lot about boats or how the engine components work but I believe the mechanic. He states there is plenty of proof that suggest this malfunction was cause of the accident. I also have pictures of before the accident and after and you can clearly see the break in the caviture plate just above the propeller which clearly means it hit something underneath water.
At this point I'm very frustrated with Progressive not only did they not cover the repairs, which even in the policy states would cover hitting objects underneath water, but they dragged this whole incident out for nearly 1.5 moths. Now my summer is gone, and I'm out $4,000.00.

Aug 19 2008 I was hit by a Progressive insured driver as I was turning into my driveway. My 87 Bronco II sustained a dented door and a chunk out of my tire. Her car sustained heavy front end damage. I did not file a claim since my Bronco is well worn with prior damages. Well a Progressive agent, Travis, came to my house Aug 25th to investigate the claim and look at the damage to my vehicle. He used a green magic marker to circle every ding, dent, scratch, scrape etc that he could find anywhere on the vehicle.
I was not home at the time, and he did not call me for any information until Aug 28th. By then he had written an estimate of damage for $1003.09 that exceeded the value of the Bronco, which he said he estimated at somewhere around $600. I told him I had already bought a door for $75 at a local junkyard and I also have a full set of new tires for it. I wasn't interested in salvaging my vehicle, I need it, and I can't replace it for $600. I told him I would be more than happy if they just paid me back for the door and had it installed, but he said that was not an option. He asked if I wanted to opt out of the claim and I said yes, just leave me and my vehicle alone.
Well I never did see that estimate for repair, or the assessment of the value of my vehicle. Never saw or recieved anything in writing whatsoever from Progressive or Mr. Heckman until Sept 16th. Then I got a letter telling me that my car had been reported as a total loss to the Dept of Motor Vehicles, that I had opted out of the payment for it, and the claim has been approved and closed. The letter also included the Motor Vehicle Code Statute regarding the title of my vehicle and the application for a Certificate of Salvage. I called the insurance agent for an explaination only to learn he is out on a 2 week vacation. The other agent in that office would not give me any information but agreed with agent Heckman's actions.
Did I happen to mention that I never signed anything throughout this proccess? Or that the Bronco II is titled and registered in my husband's name? Progressive apparently doesn't need his approval for anything they do with his vehicle either. While searching for information about our rights in this matter, I found Progressive has a claim tracking site online. I finally saw my repair estimate there. It includes repairs for every bit of damage on my vehicle, regardless of relevence to the accident, and a new paint job too! No wonder the repair estimate exceedes the value. Well, Progressive Insurance Company, I smell something stinky going on.
I'm not sure yet since this guy is on vacation. I believe I am losing my vehicle as salvage, with no payment for it, and without consent. The best outcome I can see at this point would be that I can keep my damaged vehicle with no payment for repairs, but I'm not sure that is possible

During the heavy rain storms of 2007 in Central Texas my travel trailer suffered water damage. Progressive denied my claim by claiming the trailer had a manufacturers defect. However, I was the ONLY KNOWN CASE of this defect. I refiled the claim and had the Progressive Agent call Weekend Warrior Trailers, before they went out of business, and they confirmed that the manufacturers defect was unheard of.
Progressive re-investigated my claim and AGAIN claimed manufacturers defect, but a DIFFERENT defect. I objected and demanded they show me ANY OTHER Progressive claims on Weekend Warrior Trailers with this manufacturers defect. They were unable to do so. Progressive then changed the denial to leaky seals (read: improper maintenance). However, they based this claim on pictures and testing over 600 days AFTER the initial claim. They are a fraud for an insurance company.
I will be out-of-pocket several thousand dollars.

Car ball joint went out and I crashed and hit a tree.
Car underbody got damaged. Progressive said it was totaled. they offered my 2400 less than what Kelly Blue book value is. I asked if it is totaled if I can keeo the car, they said no because in order to get some money back they take it to the salvage yard and get money for a car they don't own. I asked if I could have the repairs fixed for less than what they were going to pay me and they said no with no reason. They demand body shops to use after market parts and do shotty work. I know this for a fact because I have friends in the auto body business.
They might be cheaper than most others but any cunsumer that needs progressive to pay for anything will be in for a rude experience and wish they paid a little more money to go to another company.

The car distorted I was driving on route 1 and my car hydroplaned and I hit everything in my way ! all I can tell you is Im luck I an alive. My Honda had over 14,000 worth of damages and it would have cost them $2,000 more to total the car but no! They wanted to fix it I even offered to take that about and take my lose. They promised that I would get the car back the same way it was before the accident but believe me when I tell you that they gave me back a piece of trash ! No only did the job look bad but the car was given to me with broken baring witch means that at any moment the tires could fell off and could cause me to have a accident, yet they kept on telling me the car was fine !
Soon after that my car stopped working I was stranded and the electrical system was damaged they never even paid me back for the towing ! The best part was when my cultch went and I almost had a accident once more they fixed it but I was lucky I did not die the worst part of it all I have a 2 year old son that Is always with me! I called the claim adjuster and when I told him that the car was making a noise and if I wanted fixed I had to pay for the labor to take it about if they did not find what was wrong ! they never gave me a car that worked in the 1st place why would they now ! They never fixed my car I pry to god noting happens to us because I can't afford to get a new car when no one will buy my car and I don't blame them !
