What is NJM auto insurance?

NJM is an insurance company that offers specialty auto coverage, including motorcycle, ATV, classic and collector's car, boat and personal watercraft insurance. It provides comprehensive and collision coverage, liability insurance and personal injury protection and also has options for pet coverage, which can pay up to $1,000 for treatment if your dog or cat is injured in a car accident.

NJM offers three transportation options for when your car is in the shop as a result of a covered loss: you can take a taxi, use a ride-share company or drive a rental car. The company also has an option for new car replacement coverage — if you own a new car with fewer than 15,000 miles and it’s totaled or stolen within 12 months of purchase, NJM will cover replacement costs.

How does NJM auto insurance work?

NJM offers customizable auto coverage, including gap insurance, which covers some or all of the difference between the loan or lease amount and total loss coverage. You can also add roadside assistance to cover events like help with a flat tire or dead battery, emergency towing and locksmith services. The NJM website lets you make payments, report and view claims, see and print ID cards, read policy details and upload documents to your account.

NJM auto insurance quotes and costs

Insurance rates depend on location, driver’s age and history and other factors. NJM offers various discounts, though the specifics of each discount vary from place to place. If you complete a defensive driving or driving training course, enroll in electronic payments or are a student with a GPA of at least 3.0, you’re eligible for discounts. Other NJM discounts include multivehicle, new car, paid-in-full and paperless savings, as well as home and auto coverage bundles.

Policy renewal came in the mail & I called to get monthly payment installments set up vs paying annually as I did the year prior. Generated payment through online banking immediately once I got off the phone as that is how I pay all my monthly bills. Long story short, the check got to them 2 days after payment due date (due 3/28, check arrived 3/30) so they COMPLETELY CANCELLED my car insurance & then decided to send me a letter in the mail to let me know I am no longer insured by them which I received a week later. Meanwhile, I'm driving around withOUT insurance! Apparently, there is no leeway, no friendly reminders, no late processing...NOPE, they just dropped my entire policy over a 2 day delay in payment.

Well, IDK about you...But that doesn't sit well with me. Not knowing if I have the security of coverage while I'm driving is a NO GO! Also, their customer service is awful, keep you on hold, referring you to different departments which also seem unwilling or uninterested in helping you. Not what I'd want to deal with if I ever got into an accident.

On March 14 I had a tire blowout. The damage was so badly that car was not driven & it was main road, so I park my car at someone driveway. At 2.00 am I call NJM for road assistance for help towing my car less than one mile. From 2 to 5am I kept receiving the same auto-generated message every 15 minutes. "Hi Kamlesh-I am Janet, NJM's Ai roadside assistance... I'll keep you update as your help is arranged." Every half & hour I use to call & talk to live agent same answer, "We are working to find a provider. We will notify you as soon as possible," because of this message three hour in the middle of the night waiting.

At last I left the car at 5.00 & went home in morning 7.30 am. I call & spoke to live agent. I was told they were still looking for a tow company. After 8.00 hour NJM has no solution. If NJM had simply told me from the beginning that they are not ready to help then I would have contacted local tow company. No customer should ever go through this. NJM needs to fix their roadside assistance system so other don't suffer the same experience.

I had NJM for 21 years. I got a 2 point ticket and failure to wear seatbelt ticket. Added a 17 year old driver to my policy and my rates went from 2k a year to 8k a year. Switched to another company for 1500 less. After 21 years of having NJM as my insurance company they call me an unsafe driver because I have 2 points on my license and said my insurance costs as much as a 17 year old driver.

I was a customer with NJM for 15 years. If you get any kind of moving violation your rate will go up. Last year I was involved in a fender bender. Insurance paid for a new bumper on the other person's car because it was scratched. No money was paid out for repairs on my vehicle because it had no damage. My rate doubled to over two thousand a year. I tried to get a revised rate multiple times and the answer was no every time. Leaving njm saved me over six hundred dollars a year for the same coverage.

I was involved in an accident with a current NJM customer - I have a different insurer. When I called to get more information to submit my claim, they already had my information they already had a claim number ready for me. That was good, but that is where it ended. After several days I can't reach the adjuster, I was provided by phone or email. I just need the claim to be assigned to be assigned to the body shop. Just called to follow up and explained the situation and I was transferred to the supervisor who is OOO and not available either. I have considered NJM as insurer but with this experience just trying to get someone to talk to, I would rather stay away.

Get ready for price gouging. Raised my rates $30/month, yet all our cars got older, meaning they would have to pay out less IF we had a claim. You want to know why inflation is so bad, look right here. And when you need help, like we had a tree fall on our car in a windstorm, and they did everything possible to not pay for parts claiming everything was a wear and tear item. Ridiculous. We’ve had them over twenty years, and our first claim they try to skimp out of as much as possible. Then you get an attitude when you call. I’m looking elsewhere. I’d give no stars if I could.

I have just received a suspension notice from MVC for no insurance… I have changed insurance before and have never dealt with anything like this…. On the suspension letter they have Geico was cancelled 5-16-21 but have nothing from NJM stating I have insurance with them. I have called NJM yesterday. Lady was arguing about they sent in the papers by law they have to that MVC must have read them wrong.. I called again this morning. Again another argument. I didn’t pay premiums to argue with an insurance company…I don’t want an argument I wanted help… I would think if NJM did their job in a timely fashion then I wouldn’t be going on suspension right… I don’t know. This is just my experience so far with NJM… Premiums paid in full and going on suspension. You figure it out… So far all the help I have gotten from them is telling me how good they are….

I've had NJM for auto and home for over 6 years. Was always the cheapest insurance by far. Never made a claim and have not had a vehicle incident in over 20 years. Credit score recently went over 800. Out of the blue a get a renewal notice with a 25% premium increase. I'm working from home now and after calling them for an explanation, all I could get was that there was a general hike in collision and comprehensive coverage. The rep I was talking to said she could review the policy and see if there were any discounts that had been missed. All of a sudden the increase in rate dropped to around 13%. The point of all of this is I've done everything in the book to deserve a rate decrease and still there was a huge rate increase and when calling they came up with ways to get me discounts that should have been there originally.

The truth of the matter is that even with the increase, when you take the dividends check into account, no other insurance company can come close to NJM rates. I'm upset they did this but would be silly to go anywhere else. The reason I'm giving them 1 star is because of the unexcused increase and magic discounts found only after calling. This now means they can't be trusted. Insurance companies can't be trusted under normal conditions. NJM just put themselves into the same category.
