I had been with Geico for decades and my insurance kept creeping up a little bit every year so last year I decided to shop for a new rate and Nationwide saved me about 500.00 for the same coverage, GREAT!! I had to change my auto insurance to them in order to get the rate which was higher but ultimately I was saving a net of about 200.00. Not going to retire early on it but a buck is a buck, or so I thought! Fast forward a year, we have had no claims as usual and my auto gets auto renewed but my homeowners is in limbo. I didn't get a call or anything and here I am on September 16 and my policy expires on September 24th. Only reason I knew something was up was because they sent me notification that my automatic monthly payment was coming out on the 24th in the amount of 300.00 and its normal about 490.00. I looked online thinking maybe it was a COVID credit like all the other companies are doing but it wasn't!

I went online and my homeowners didn't even show up so I called. I spoke with a gal that said that they needed a letter from our alarm company that stated we had fire monitoring. I told her that we did not have fire monitoring and never have. She then simply explained that my policy would not be renewed! REALLY!!! I told her that I was not in a fire area that I live in the Bay area. She very nicely explained the even fires happen in the Bay Area!! Really, I had no idea!!! I then asked if all California homes had to have fire monitoring because I have never heard of that before, No answer. So then I called Geico back who I had my insurance with a year ago and got insurance again. Total waste of my time and I will never do insurance with them again.... It doesn't always pay to save a few bucks!!

We pay, what I believe is a very high premium compared to other insurers, and yet after a 72 hour blackout recently our insurance co. said "Sorry" when it came to covering about $350 worth of spoiled food in our refrigerator/freezer saying that even if we had coverage we would have to make an itemized list as we removed it from our appliance, photograph each item and then price like items in the grocery store and finally, there would have been a $500 deductible! On the other hand, my Granddaughter's homeowners said NO PROBLEM, NO DEDUCTIBLE, just go get your groceries and bring us the bill - no itemized list and no photographs of the damaged foods. I think it's time to shop for cheaper and BETTER coverage elsewhere AND I am really disappointed!

Price for policies are too expensive for amount of coverage you get. You can adjust your coverage but when you do you are not getting what you need for what you are paying. I recommend you do your own research with different companies and use the same coverage quotes and see which company offers you the best price.

Recently my wife lost a diamond stone in her wedding ring. Our policy covers jewelry and we did submit an appraisal prior to coverage. Ring was valued at $12,200. I submitted the claim and within days it was approved for the appraised value. A few days later I received the check. I was expecting my premium to increase due to the claim however to my surprise my premium went down a few dollars.

I've had Nationwide for about 5 years now. I was forced to file a weather related claim after the derecho on August 10th. My siding ripped at all corners of the house and somehow my kitchen floor fell about half inch. They told me that the floor happened because of several years of deterioration (my home was built brand new in 2008). They refused to repair the siding on the left side of the house and said they would repair the right side and gutters but it's less than my deductible! I got an estimate for $4700 for repairs to the right side and gutters and my deductible is is $2500. That $2200 would of helped me a great deal. Something doesn't add up with this company. Time to find different insurance!

I live in East Nashville that was hit badly by the tornado on 3/3/20 and damaged my wooden fence (about 255 ft), part of it fell down and other damages in each side of the fence, I filed a claim in the same date, a claim specialist Mr. ** came on 3/9/20 gave me estimate for 144 ft replacement damaged fence $3,539.88 & 16 feet gate $604.70 & hauling $119.33, so the total amount $4,263.91 & issued me a check for $3,263.91 after $1,000 deductible. I called Lowe's to hire a professional licensed fence contractor to get the job done but they said the entire fence got damaged and need replacement, also the hauling fee $119.33 is too low, then gave me estimate for $7,995.

I emailed Lowe's estimate to Mr. ** and I mentioned I haven’t cashed the check so he can void it and send me another check with enough money after my $1,000 deductible but he ignored to reply for 5 days till I text him, then he replied and said, the Lowe’s contractor is incorrect and not the entire fence was damaged, the hauling fee $119.33 is reasonable, and "estimates from Lowe’s, Home Depot, and the like are not considered for coverage as they are highly inflated by the price charged by the retailer for their role in the process. I would highly recommend that you contact a fencing contractor specifically in order to receive a more reasonable bid. At this time the estimate is not able to be revised based on the information you have provided. Therefore, voiding and reissuing a check will not be necessary."

So, I contacted another 3 professional licensed companies and gave me estimates for replacing the entire damaged fence for $6,295.75 & $6,102 & $6,659 with the following notice: 1) All estimates include about $800 - $1,595.75 Hauling. 2) All estimates don't include compressor fee to remove rocks if required. The average of the 3 estimates $6,352.25 which is much higher than the insurance estimate of $4,263.91 so I will pay out of my pocket other than my $1,000 deductible by about $2,088.34 plus compressor fee if required.

I emailed Mr. ** the 3 estimates and I said my broken fence still down on ground since 3/3/20 & my neighbor's dog poops in my yard so it's getting nasty there & it can cause problems with my neighbor too. Also, other than I did maintenance to my fence since I bought my home on 2/2019, I cut 3 big old trees last Nov 2019, out of my pocket expense, these old trees could damage the home structure & and the fence too like what happened at my area in East Nashville from tornado, so it would cost Nationwide thousands which much more than just replacing the entire damaged fence.

I got auto reply he is off for a week and contact Ms. Casey **, I did and she called me and said, "Your policy provides coverage for direct physical damage like a roof from wind damaged. The policy covers replacement the damaged section only regardless matching the shingles materials and color but I agree the hauling fee is low, I am just emergency contact person & you can wait till Mr. ** comes back."

I requested a copy of my policy from my agent and I emailed it to her to highlight what she was talking about, but she replied with some paragraphs that was not from what I emailed her and said not the entire fence was damaged. I replied back and said 4 professional licensed fence company gave an estimate to replace the entire damaged fence and their estimates didn't have an option for partial replacement, also they refused to install new materials with damaged materials and posts to have weak and ugly looking fence so they gave me their contact info to let Nationwide contact them for any questions, but she refused to contact them and she said “That particular task can wait until his return because it does not affect the claim outcome or result in any additional payment owed. Mr. ** manager is my manager also, and he is already aware of the situation and would reiterate the same”.

Horrible! Nationwide is NOT on your side. I have had Nationwide Insurance for auto, home and other (wedding ring) for over 20 years. Last year I chipped my wedding ring diamond and filed a claim. Even though my coverage covered reimbursing the original (retail) cost of my ring they said they would only give me the wholesale value. They wanted us to take a 10k loss! $10,000 less than we paid, folks! Agent Randall ** had purchased the agency of my original agent and one can only gather he switched my policy at some point without my consent. To add insult to injury, I was told I should have claimed I lost my ring to get the full value!

Then Nationwide tried to force us to go through "their" private jeweler to replace my diamond. So they still wanted to short us the 10k, but they also wanted to make a profit by selling me a low quality diamond. Their diamonds were NOT comparable in quality to my diamond. I have filed complaints with multiple organizations like the BBB and the Tx Dept of Insurance, but since it has been implied the agent changed my policy it's likely I will get screwed. Stay away from this agent and Nationwide Insurance at all cost, because you will pay for it when you have to file a claim.

I have had Nationwide homeowners and property insurance for years. For the first time, in early 2019, I needed to file a claim. They stalled, lowballed and took up an inordinate amount of my time over many months. I finally got that property repaired and they covered the majority of the cost. I paid a few thousand. I have now filed a claim on my own home and they are even worse. All the homes in my neighborhood are getting new roofs from hail damage on May 24. Not me. Nationwide wants to replace a few shingles. They arbitrarily closed my claim. They have not responded for over two weeks to the photos, video and roofing company report. I am now resorting to hiring my own independent roof inspector.

Frankly I will never do business with them again. I advise you to look elsewhere. Their lack of customer service is appalling. Their blatant attempts to not pay claims is disgusting. My local roofing company said this is the only time they have seen a company try to replace a few shingles from this storm. Farmers insurance adjuster told me they estimate 10,000 new roof claims. I will likely turn this over to my attorney soon but wanted to warn others.

The water from the bathtub caused water leakage in the unit below. Allstate paid for the damages in the full amount. Since this valid claim is linked to my social security, Nationwide rejected me. Think how they will treat minor claims and big claims when some bad happens to you. Message to Nationwide: Don't be an insurance company if you cannot handle claims. One home claim in 2011 when hot water tank flooded our hardwood floors and Nationwide paid to replace entire living, dining and kitchen floors and to pay our hotel stay for 17 nights, about $17,000. But when hurricane Florence hit we had downed large elms, entire roof shingles pitted and lifted, 40 ft privacy fence blown out, cement driveway lifted and broke to large pieces from root ball. Entire damage out of pocket over $26,100 with Nationwide paying $6049.

They refused to pay roof except for value of two bundles for roof repair (they said repairable but 3 roofing contractors and an independent appraiser said roof had to be replaced), $4900 for drive which cost $8300 to replace, $226 for fence which cost $1000, and $900 or so for tree removal. Local insurance rep good to deal with but had to deal with agent in Ohio about all claims. 6 months after repeated delays and procrastination with rain leaking onto ceiling in various spots I paid $15900 to replace roof. I had Nationwide home/auto bundle insurance for 3 years, during which time I had multiple extremely negative experiences with this company. One time they screwed up some paperwork on their side, and cancelled our home insurance by mistake. To make it worse they informed our mortgage lender of this cancellation, which caused a lot of stress for me as they could have led to some serious issues with the lender. I had to spend a lot of time and energy to straighten things out for a mistake that Nationwide made.

Another time, when I started a home-based business, I called this company and asked them if they had any business insurance plans that I can bundle with home. They directed me to an affiliate of theirs for business insurance. A couple of months later, I received an email from them asking me to call them, without explaining in the email what the call was about. I called them but had to leave a message. A few weeks later, the same email again.

Finally, I got in touch with someone, who started claiming that they would cancel my home insurance because I had started a business!!! Note, they never explained during my first phone call that my insurance plan excluded the possibility of starting a home-based business. Instead, they made it sound like I was starting a business without letting them know. What a rude, disloyal, and unprofessional way to handle a repeat customer. Nationwide is a privately owned company so no stockholders to satisfy. They give discounts for multiple-policy coverage (home and auto). They give you the option of signing up with a local agent to service your policy or of signing up through their website so everything can be handled locally &/or through the website.

Nationwide is very trustworthy and has been around and beats out many, many, many of the other companies that are around nowadays who provide homeowners insurance. Nationwide is amazing and we love them. I chose this company for their friendliness and ease of business to do with them. They have had our backs whenever disaster or inconvenience occurs and they have never given us a problem about settling with a check or squaring away any differences in the policy amounts that may come from what we have to come out of pocket for any expenses. They've always reimbursed and always been there no matter what many times that we've never had to go out of our way to have everything we needed.

I also chose Nationwide for the price. It is very lenient and very marginal to what the homeowner's home is worth compared to how much you pay on a policy. It's also a good deal as far as you always get more than what you pay for. They have a extremely wide range of what they cover. They cover damages as far as natural disaster damage, hail damage, wind damage, theft, fire damage and more.

The policy could always be cheaper as far as how much you pay. They could also provide more coverage for a wider array of things that could happen. The only thing that could make them better is if they were available on point on demand anytime, anywhere, anyplace. The fact that if you were to pay your homeowners insurance faithfully from the time you start to pay your mortgage on your home till the day you die you will never pay more on your insurance policy than what your home is worth because Nationwide is awesome. They're the best at negotiating prices and knowing what the loss and Gain ratio is as far as how much you will stand to gain. As long as you have Nationwide you will be okay!

I have a bundle policy with Nationwide Insurance, Car Insurance and House Insurance. I had to file a claim on the house insurance for damage to my roof on September 9 2018. We had a hurricane come through our area and it rain for 3 days and dropped about 8 inches of rain during that time. I noticed two spots on my roof that were not there before the storm came through. These spots were dips in the roof and you could tell the paneling under the shingles had been damaged by water from the rain. I went up on the roof myself to inspect these areas and could tell that the wood had been damaged. I called Nationwide and filed a claim. Because of some many claims from the storm Nationwide had to send out a contracted adjustor to inspect the roof. When the adjustor showed up he did the usual things adjustor do. He took pictures of the roof and ceiling inside the house and took measurements.

The pictures of the roof did not show the damage that was there and you could not tell anything was really wrong with the roof itself. To make a long story short the insurance company would not pay for any damage to the roof. They said that because under their policy of wind damage that there must be loose or missing shingles on the roof for any damage to be considered and since according to them there weren't any then we would not be getting any money for the roof. You can clearly see the damage from the street on the roof itself. The contracted adjustor did a terrible job of taking pictures of the roof and you could not even see the damage the storm did in the pictures.

The story for the ceiling damage was not any better. I got an estimate of $720 damage to the ceilings. Well it just so happens I have a $1000 deductible on my homeowners' policy for the inside of the house so I got screwed on that end too. They won't pay out a dam dime for that either since they made sure to estimate the damage under a $1000 to keep from paying out any money. If you read this complaint please beware. Don't buy homeowners insurance from Nationwide that are a bunch of **. I have had insurance with them for 35 years and this is how they treat us. The claims agent tried to tell me that the damage to my roof was probably just wear on the roof from years of wear and tear which is **.

I just filed a complaint with the North Carolina Insurance Commission but it probably won't do any good. I was talking to the man who was the contracted inspector who looked at the roof. He told me personally that Nationwide Insurance was really cracking down on the claims that were being filed by the adjustors and finding any excuse possible to reject the claims to save the company money. If this does not sound like cheating the policy holder I don't know what does. By reading this I hope you don't get ** by these **.

After that... nothing. I emailed the adjuster, I don't know how many times, to get a response "do you have any questions?". He never answers any of my questions. It's like he ignores everything. I know he is getting to my emails because he's responding to my emails. They are trying to pay the bare minimum.

The drywall is not up, the smell is horrid, they busted a cabinet trying to remove it from beneath the bar sink and stopped because it would bust the granite counter top. The adjuster says "I will pay for the throw rug and shop vac" like it's coming out of his pocket. This is insurance, not a 401k plan. I've already paid for all of this with my premiums. I had to get the adjuster's supervisor's email to let her know about my experience. After this is done, I'm taking my business elsewhere. The auto insurance through Nationwide is great. However, I will be switching due to my horrible experience with the homeowners insurance. "Nationwide is on your side"??? Really? Beware folks... no one wants to be put through this.

The adjuster is terrible. He doesn't call you back. He doesn't tell you anything. They are very rude people and I did everything they have asked me to do. They were throwing so much crap at me I had to get a lawyer. The agent told me a month ago that my claim would be paid off but they not sent my lawyer anything. Fire destroyed home. Home took a year to rebuild with lots of lack of communication between Nationwide and Contractor, resulting with poor workmanship causing 3 return trips to correct problems and still existing. Personal contents was the worst in paying out. Had $200,000 personal contents ins, did my due diligence in providing proof of loss; depreciated items close to 40%, received half the amt claimed on contents. Nationwide puts up a facade that they are on your side, when in fact they are on their side. 3 rate increases in a 2 yr period because of fire.

I had all of my assets (car, boat, M/C, & home) insured through Nationwide. My home for 32 years. I had a roofing company (Joe Shearin - Shearin Construction) replace my roof (that wasn't leaking - just old) and they left the shingles off overnight and it rained into my home. Nationwide paid to replace the roof but fought me "tooth and nail" on paying adequately to cover the damages from the water coming into my home. They sent out an adjuster several times who refused to acknowledge the obvious damage, had a forensic engineer come out and he claimed that the damage was due to humidity and cats rather than the obvious of rain pouring down my walls and damaging the insulation in my attic and drywall on my ceilings.

Nationwide got approximately 26,000 dollars from me over the years and would not give me more than $1,600 for damages from water, even though repairs were estimated from 4,000 to 7,500. They are thieves and what they do by taking consumers money and not paying fairly on claims is white collar crime. I have since changed over all of my insurance and have saved approximately $300 on premiums. Consumers beware! Don't let insurance companies take your hard earned money and leave you stuck with the hardship when you need to get some of the money back that you paid into them for "insurance". Insurance? Really? Or is it consumers' money for their investments?

My kitchen floor and living room/dining room areas have received water damage. First Magnum sent their own rep to survey the damage approx 1 1/2 months after the damage. Then I was told to get in touch with Mark from Nationwide who is the surveyor who took months to respond and finally survey.

I received a written quote by Home Depot to repair damages to the kitchen floor and living room / dining room areas as a result to the water damage. Keep in mind this damage is from 11/16. It is now 3/21/18 and Nationwide offered a fraction of what it costs and wants me to sign a release of liability letter - which they are out of their mind - unless Magnum Appliances is willing to cough up the remaining balance. Unfortunately that has not been the case. I have left negative reviews for each and every Nationwide Insurance Agency from Sea to Shining Sea, and they still think I am bluffing. We had to replace the debit card and grabbed a statement to get a customer service phone number which happened to be for Pet insurance and reset AUTOPAY on the new card. On 7-24-2017 at 1:25 AM a tornado hit our community in Stevensville MD. Our home sustained heavy damage from multiple trees falling on our home. After settling ourselves from the horror and shock of this tornado hit we began a long process of recovery. At first the insurance company was good. They arrived quickly, gave us money to house ourselves in a hotel and to purchase the essentials. The adjuster stated that we probably had $30,000 to $40,000 in damage and would be 8 to 12 weeks before we could be back in our house. A rental home was arranged where we live now - 3 months to the day later.

As it turns out the damage was far heavier than the adjuster stated. In fact the adjuster disallowed multiple issues from the appraisal that the recovery construction company included in their report. Even with those removals the insurance company has already sent nearly $100,000.00 but nothing has begun because of the removed items. I have now hired an independent appraiser and have invoked my right to settle the claim by appraisal - and they denied my "request". Note that this was not a request - it was a demand as is my right under the contract with Nationwide. In the end they will lose but for now they're happy trying to frustrate us into submission with veiled threats to discontinue our housing payment in the rental property.

Know that the adjuster from Nationwide has lied to my face, misrepresented the facts, changed his story multiple times, and now is snide with his responses. He presented himself as a "Christian" who goes to church - so typical that when someone wears their faith on their sleeve beware. I can prove everything I am saying here. NEVER allow anyone in your property once it has been damaged from a major storm, IMMEDIATELY contact a Independent Competent Adjuster and let them handle everything. The insurers hate them because they're on YOUR side. The insurance companies have only one goal - screw you out of as much as possible.

Apparently someone drove by our house and took pictures of our house and surrounding area. Within the year Nationwide canceled our house insurance based on their claim that we have trees 100 feet from our house. 100 feet! It is impossible to not have a tree 100 feet from your house in most parts of Colorado. There were no options to rectify the situation or any suggestions for mitigation; we were just dropped like a hot potato. We had one month to find a new company.

Fortunately we bundled with our car insurance company and we are more than happy with our insurance which ends up saving us money. But the customer service, the communication with Nationwide was extremely poor. No one cared. Plus, their reason for canceling was not listed in their policy. I recommend staying far away from them. I had a termite bond on a house that I purchased. The bond stated that there was no previous or current termite damage. Nationwide insures these companies for things such as this. My purchase depended on this report clearing the house of such damage. When we got in there, we discovered that the house was completely termite eaten from top-to-bottom. We had to replace the whole structure from the rat sills, floor joists, wood flooring, wall studs, top plates, and part of the roof and spent over $65,000.

Senior Claim Rep Jessica ** handled the claim. After dragging her feet for a couple of months, after I provided her with a very detailed report w/ pictures, and after termite company dodging them insurance adjuster for weeks until he was told firmly that he had to meet with him and provide a report, Jessica called me today and was extremely rude, telling me that due to exclusions in the contract and the "facts" that they will not cover the damage. I asked her what the 'facts' and exclusions were and she stated that she did not have to tell me. I have the same contract and there are no exclusions. As a matter of fact, the termite company was going to pay the damages themselves rather than turn it in to their insurance company because he didn't want to risk his insurance being raised.

However, when he came and saw the obvious damage - that could be seen with the naked eye - and realized it was a complete rebuild and way more expensive than he had hoped, he decided to submit the claim. The insurance inspector, when asked what the worse termite damage he ever saw was, he laughed and said, "Uh! Not even nearly as bad as this!" He said, "Hands down! This is the worst I've ever seen!" The termite company (Lightening Pest Control in Mobile, Alabama) owner told me that he was just doing a friend from the real estate company a favor. As it turns out, the termite people never called the sellers, the realtors, or myself to notify them they would be doing and inspection or be let in and they stated that they did a treatment that they never did.

This is now going into a lawsuit! Nationwide should not be providing insurance if they are not going to pay out on it. Jessica was very nice through the whole process until she called to decline it and then was very rude. DO NOT INSURE WITH THIS COMPANY!!! THEY ARE NOTHING BUT A SCAM TAKING MONEY AND NOT PAYING OUT! I lost my whole life savings because of them - and now have a house sitting dead in the water! NATIONWIDE IS NOT ON YOUR SIDE! They are only out for themselves. We moved in the day we signed papers, the lazy person obviously just seen no car in driveway and deemed it that we didn't live there, which is beyond bull crap!!! #2 if you had any reason to think we weren't living here, you should have asked.

Anyway, so we get a random letter saying that we didn't occupy the home and that our policy was cancelling. We got this letter twice when the whole time we've lived at our address. We called in both times and the guy on the phone assured us that our policy was fine and that no further acted was deemed necessary. Who would have thought this company was a joke? Not us, we've never had trouble with them until we got homeowner's insurance with them. So, we had to talk with these people many times over our account and we were told our policy was fine that it must have been a mistake and blah blah. We're like ok, fine just wanted to make sure everything was good and whatnot. Again, countless times, we were told our policy was fine. This was December of 2016.

So, after being told many times that it was a mistake on their part and it was fixed and blah blah blah, we find out in April of 2017 that we haven't had insurance since November of 2016 that the underwriter or whatever never reopened our account after talking to multiple people hours at a time to figure out what the heck they messed up. That's nice to know that you tell people their policy is fine only to screw them over. I'm done with this ** company, I suggest you go somewhere else if you're even thinking about Nationwide, they're definitely not "on your side". All they see is $$$$. I will NEVER use or EVER recommend this company to anyone. There is nothing they can say or do to change my mind. They've completely lost their chance of fixing this. The damage was to an extra room added to our house which WAS insured on the policy. They lied about the dates of the incident, therefore their "weather report" didn't have a corresponding storm for the date they used. They tried to make us look like liars reporting a fraudulent claim. The adjuster ordered a "forensic investigation" which they probably spent more money on that than it would have cost to fix the damage. Horrible, deceptive and sloppy service is exactly what I have received so far from Nationwide insurance services. I have been shocked and disgusted with their lack of service, and from my perspective, saying Nationwide is on your side is a blatant and bold faced lie. So the situation was that one night, my neighbors tree, which is been hanging over my house for some time, fell down ripping a giant hole in my roof and landed in my bedroom/office. I had been sitting at my desk working on bills about three minutes before the tree fell. I got up to get a snack and that's when the tree landed on my house and it sounded like an explosion. A giant branch landed right at the chair where I had been sitting three minutes earlier. If I've been sitting in the chair when the tree fell, it would've hit split my head open and I would not be writing this today.

I looked for a place to stay for myself and my son and could not find anything nearby that was available and was anywhere close to us other than a one bedroom one bath hotel room. I talked to my insurance agents, Sanfilippo & sons insurance agency, and they told me to make arrangements for a place to stay and the insurance would cover it. I ended up making arrangements for my son and I to stay at a friends house for a price that was less than we would've paid for a hotel. The insurance adjuster, David **, told me that the insurance would not cover that and that if I was staying with a friend, they might be able to pay me about $50 a week because "a friend shouldn't charge you that much".

He also suggested that my son and I move in with my parents for a while so I explained to him that my parents were dead and that I had not been paying my friend, whose house my son and I was staying at, many, many years of premiums to take care of us in an emergency. He retorted that I hadn't just "jumped into a pile of money" and that nationwide insurance would not cover to stay at my friends house even though it was cheaper than it would've been if we had stayed at a hotel. He went on to tell me I had no rental loss insurance on my property so they would not cover me for the loss of income from my tenant. This was also found to be untrue as I read over my insurance policy again. This guy David ** seems to think when he makes a decision about my policy, there is no room for discussion, although frequently he is been dead wrong.

What is also amazing to me is the little nationwide is on your side theme and we are attempting to give you great service, which is written on the bottom of each note that he sends. It says if you've not received exceptional service to give a call to a particular person and they give that person's phone number. The particular name and the particular number is David ** and is the phone number I've been calling. So if I'm not happy with my service I complain to the person who's giving me horrible service??? Isn't that someone similar to being raped and then reporting the rape to the rapist???

So I'm not finished with the process yet, so if there are massive changes in the way I am treated I could change my rating, but let me tell you, it doesn't seem likely. So to summarize, I had a tree fall on my house, through no fault of my own. I was told to find a place to stay temporarily, I was told to find a contractor to rebuild my house, and now Nationwide is telling me, through their agent David **, that my contractors are charging more than they should so Nationwide is not willing to pay them. So a tree falls on my house, again through no fault of my own, and it now appears like I'm going to be out at least $20,000 to have my house built back to where it was.

I was hoping that my insurance agents, Sanfilippo and sons insurance services, could help me through this process, but they, from my perspective, seem unwilling, unmotivated, and totally inept. When this process has been completed I will take policies on all three of my houses to another company and definitely to other insurance agents. I suspect I have 80 years of policy premiums through nationwide and through these agents, and I don't believe I ever made a claim.

After Nationwide told me my cars were not covered under my personal property, I asked them to send an email that contained my insurance policy. They told me that they could not email it and that they could put it in the mail and I would probably get it in 10 days to two weeks. That was not too helpful when I'm trying to make arrangements to have the tree taken out of my roof, to mitigate damages, and to get my home repaired. Since it was the neighbors tree, and since another tree had fallen from his yard previously, I believed he was negligent by not keeping a better eye on his giant tree that loomed over my house.

When I talked to his insurance company, Farmers, they were very helpful and pleasant and gave me lots of good information. The adjusters were kind, thoughtful, and actually seemed to care about doing the right thing. They gave me a check for each of my two cars that got beaten up when the tree fell. They had a list of lots of people who worked on cars in the area. They had their favorites who, they recommended, but they were very clear that we could go to anybody we wanted to do for the car repairs. They wrote a check and they said if they were for the repairs that were needed but that they overlooked and damages, they would make sure everything was taken care of properly. The checks were quite reasonable for the damage, and then they made sure that we had vehicles to drive while ours were being fixed. Farmers was awesome, caring, and treated us extremely well.

I am a General Manager of a roofing contractor in Denver Co and selected certain areas to locate homeowners who might have hailed damage property from some of the hail storms this year. If they are either unaware or were turned down by the insurance companies claiming not enough damage, that would be preposterous for these areas? I have seen enough physical evidence from the hail storms in 2016. The areas we have seen are literally catastrophic. NO claim in these areas should be declined? My complaint is with Nationwide who has denied approving a claim on 5 out of 6 structures that 4 of which has taken over a month to basically get an inspection done and that had to be done by an engineer hired by Nationwide.

There was another engineer present and he said the engineer from Nationwide didn't use conventional methods of examination which he thought was odd? The claim on the 4 bldg. property the findings were probably predetermined before they looked at the roof? The explanation seems to center around the exact storm date, but if I'm correct, don't remember seeing that part in the exclusions section? Besides I have enough evidence that hail compromised not only the structural integrity of the roofs but has caused severe damage on all the collateral items not mentioned but can be included in a deposition (Appraisal if necessary) along with a petition of perhaps a class action suit? Accusing Nationwide of fraud by denying claims that weren't really inspected or the Inspector was incentivized by a "not enough damage " result turned in occupied by 4 different tenants in each building.

The other location has repeated hailstorms this year of 1.75" up to 2.25" inch size hail. There are obvious holes that have penetrated and severely compromised the wood shake shingle and its ability to ** common weather conditions that would eventually cause internal leakage? The damage reported at the 4 unit 4plex has been inspected by myself, a notable HAAG certified inspector and a Public Adjuster certified by the State. Personally, I have been very disappointed in the handling of the claim. It has been one of the more unpleasant experiences dealing with any one company. I consider myself one of the best Inspectors in detecting hail damage and well versed of how your policy reads.

The only thing we're asking is that Nationwide do the right thing and take care of your policyholders in time of need! To have confidence that this company really does have their back. And will honor its policy coverage so the insured can feel good and recommend Nationwide as a company that does what they say. I have witnessed, documented and recorded routine tactics to try and deter, frustrate or give the insured the belief that they don't warrant a claim.

Over 90% of entire neighborhoods in parts of Co Spgs, and other heavily hit areas were impacted by these storms, a lot of the homeowners don't even know because their insurance company lied! I would be very curious to see how many of these claims were denied. Denver, Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch, Golden, Lakewood and many other cities and towns were affected also. If they continue to negate what should be corrected, I will advise my clients to do whatever it takes to expose this crime.

When submit the cancellation through DocuSign (which has digital DocuSign envelope ID), 4 months later they would claim never received it or associated with the account, and insisted the cancellation is due to non-payment initially. Even sent the non-existing coverage to debt collection agency. That would be another branching headache to deal with.

It doesn't help that my settlement company mistakenly sent them the payment, so obviously it would take a bear to get that back. There will be many agents to deal with. It just appears not every call is logged or recorded as they claim. Until you get someone who is nice and responsive, things goes nowhere. Nobody seems to see the whole profile of you. I have not dealt with any commercial entity so disorientated. Again, very thankful to nice agents who at least response and take ownership. The rating does not reflect their personal efforts to do their best, it is the systematic process lacking as a whole company.

After experiencing premium increases renewal after renewal, my Nationwide agent convinced me to sign up for their "SmartRide" program to record my driving and to qualify after the program is completed up to 40% off my next premium renewal that would stay in place as long as I had the policy. For those who are not familiar with this program, you install a device in your auto that tracks your driving for several months and records any incidents that they would consider would make you a higher risk customer. You get a weekly report on how you are doing and what % of a discount you are eligible for on a week to week basis.

Once the program is completed, the final percent of discount is calculated on a cumulative of the several months you are in the program. The total discount applies to your next premium renewal. My agent informed me also, that he has never had or seen where anyone participating in the program ever received more than 30%, including himself. I qualified for a 26% discount after the program was completed. I completed the program 2 weeks before my insurance renewal came up. I received my renewal documents today and saw that my savings with my 26% discount was 1 cent.

I called Nationwide direct to have them correct what I was sure was an error in their system since the amount I was going to pay after my program completion with the 26% discount was the same as the previous 6 months with the exception of the new premium again was only 1 cent less. The Nationwide employee informed me that the new premium was correct because all of their customers had received an increase this renewal period. He could not tell me why or what the renewal increase was for, because he said the company would not tell them. He could only inform me that we had an increase that applied to their customer base nationwide.

So, what I have learned from the "SmartRide" program, is that whatever percent discount you qualify for, that is what your premium will be increased too for the next renewal period. Example: I qualified for a 26% discount for my responsible driving, therefore my premium was increased 26%. The "SmartRide" program is a "ruse", and Nationwide had no intention of extending any discount for participating in the program. I was reluctant in participating in the program when it was first introduced because I felt like it was an invasion of my privacy. I turned down my Agent's recommendation to participate many times before due to that. But, when my premiums kept rising each renewal period, I decided to participate knowing I was a responsible driver and the discount would be very helpful in me trying to maintain my monthly budget.

I do not like dealing with dishonest and or intentionally misleading companies, so I am cancelling my auto and homeowners policy with Nationwide and will be relaying my experience with many others so they avoid dealing with or experiencing the same very frustrating experience I have dealt with. If you are considering participating in this program, don't waste your time or allow an invasion of your privacy for nothing! Soon to be ex-Nationwide customer.

On July 4, 2012, a hail storm impacted the Murrysville PA area with 1 inch hail. This storm took its toll on a large number of roofs including ours. At the time, we had Nationwide Insurance and filed a claim for the damage. The Nationwide Agent, Alan **, appeared and told us they would never pay for our claim after glancing at our roof from our front yard. They did deny our claim and we filed an appeal. Nationwide sent a roof engineer to investigate our claim and he did find hail damage however Nationwide again refused to honor our policy. We filed suit however since we did so beyond the 1 year statute of limitations within our policy, we will lose our case.

The moral here is Nationwide Insurance does not honor its homeowner policies and will hide behind its 1 year statute of limitations language. This language states you must sue Nationwide within 1 year of when you notified Nationwide of a claim. We failed to do this as we felt Nationwide was going to honor our policy however we now know they never intended to do so. I suggest you avoid Nationwide for any insurance needs as they will not honor their policies.

This quickly went up to over $800.00 yearly for the exact same coverage without our knowledge. It is now 16 years later, our payment always went into escrow so we never knew about the changes until this year. When I called to cancel with Nationwide they offered us pretty close to the rate we gave them back in 2000. Why now? Why take advantage of us for 16 years and not value us as a customer?

They are the most dishonest company I have ever known. When I complained to the BBB they claimed they did not have my phone number for 16 years, though they had no trouble contacting me a few weeks ago with a better rate. By the way, we have had the same number for 16 years, with the same answering machine, with the same message! This is a horrible, horrible insurance company. Nationwide sold me a bill of goods when my agent proposed I consider using their commercial policy for protecting my condo in the event there is interior damage to the condo. 3 years into the policy a pipe burst in between the wall facing the hallway and my utility closet. Nationwide stated that because the water originated from the external side vs. internal / interior wall to the condo the policy does not cover this event. The building / HOA maintains a policy for such circumstances, however there is often a huge deductible associated, which oftentimes is a shared expense to the homeowner(s) should a claim is reported. In my case the total deductible came to $5000 (out of pocket) shared between the owner below my condo unit and me.

Living in the condo 8 years feeling reasonably protected - now I realize I have major exposure leading to massive $$$ out of pocket expenses to situations well outside of my control... Nationwide claims there's no insurance company in the USA providing gap coverage for circumstances of this type. Wondering if am the only one feeling this way, and if there's any solution out there for reducing this risk, other than selling the condo. Thanks in advance!

Horrible company to deal with. I was unfortunate enough to have a major mitigation company to deal with a water leak from above the ceiling. They did a south of the border job of mitigating the damage. I had Nationwide rep inspect the site and then had 2 of their "preferred contractors" bid the job. My own contractor wouldn't touch it because of previous problems with Nationwide. The bids were ridiculously low. They failed to acknowledge major amounts of work required. I called the Nationwide rep back out to point out the deficiencies. She merely stated that any additional work would be dealt with on a case by case basis. NEVER ALLOW THIS. Get an accurate baseline bid first.

I then brought in another contractor who used an independent insurance appraiser to establish an accurate baseline bid. Nationwide then brought in their other mitigation company to verify my contractor's claim. At this point I am 60 days into the claim and not a bit of construction work has started. Nor was I compensated for out of house expenses because I had another home 52 miles away I was using. The actual damage estimate from my contractor was 3 times their estimate. The most ludicrous statement Nationwide made was that thousands of gallons of water pouring from the ceiling and down the walls did no damage inside the walls and the sheet rock did not need to be removed and the tile would be fine. Only then did I advise them that I had a degree in Architecture and 30 years in the construction business.

All I got after that was lowball replacement costs, delays in communication and damage denials. I had full replacement coverage and Nationwide was aware of custom tile and granite work. It took 5 months for Nationwide to pay for the additional mitigation and to issue a check for the final damages. This project should never have taken more than 2 months. I am aware that this is a consistent approach with most insurance companies in this modern age, but this is my experience with Nationwide.

Nationwide Insurance/Duffy Plumbing and Heating, Brian and Erika Duffy, Honesdale PA 18431. Duffy Plumbing and Heating was recommended by our General Contractor on a project known as the Anchor Building Project, the revitalization of Downtown Honesdale by the development of a Data Center to bring Business Class Broadband to Wayne County PA. He was first contracted to install the plumbing system in the building. He put the system in but did not put the clean out traps in properly. He then demanded full payment for unfinished job. We had to get another plumber to finish the job.

Duffy Plumbing and Heating was then to install 9 heat pump units in the building including all duct work. We agreed on $600 dollars per day for the 3 people that worked on the plumbing. He had 7 on the 9 units installed in 5 weeks but then realized he was working too fast. He then had one guy on the job. I told Brian Duffy several times that I was not going to pay him to have one guy spend half his day climbing a ladder to get materials into roof. The company, Smith & Morris Holdings, LLC. had a running total of the people and hours on the job. Duffy Plumbing Heating then started to present invoices for $600 per day regardless of the number of people on site. I told Brian Duffy that I would not pay him for the invoices as written and only for the hours ($75.00 per) per person that was on site doing work. He dismissed my demand and I fired the company.

We learned after Duffy Plumbing and Heating was fired that 6 of the 9 units were hooked up incorrectly. This was very dangerous as the 220v power was also hooked up wrong. (The power was hooked up according to the engineering plans but the units themselves were not in the right place.) We have to have the plans changed; the electric changed and rewire the thermostats as moving the units were not an option. Duffy Plumbing and Heating took us to court. The Judge was a fellow plumber of Duffy Plumbing and Heating. Does that tell you how it went down? After we appealed the decision, Erika Duffy decided to write Honesdale about this. Honesdale was part of the State of Pennsylvania DCED grant program to put Broadband into Wayne County. As part of that we were also going to put in green wind power to offset the power consumed by the project.

While I do believe that Brian Duffy lied to his wife (benefit of the doubt) about what really happened, it was a clear attempt to destroy the project and the millions of dollars invested by my investors and partners. In August they then did a full front page story in the local newspaper. Once again it was full of lies. Finally, we just paid him off to get rid of him and filed suit for Slander and Libel. His actions triggered off a catastrophic failure of the project with the Borough of Honesdale that ended up with the Pennsylvania Inspector General investigating what happened. Millions of investment dollars were lost including taxpayer dollars. As it turns out Duffy Plumbing and Heating has insurance that would cover what they did with Nationwide Insurance.

This catastrophic failure would eventually force me and my partner to declare bankruptcy. It could have been avoided but Nationwide refused to settle even when the amount was under $100,000.00. Now the damages have exceeded $7 million dollars including real estate (business and home), lost contracts and much more. All Nationwide has tried to do is delay this for three years and at one point they got a court order to do depositions and never showed up or rescheduled. That attorney's name was John ** of Snyder and Associates in Plains PA.

The matter has destroyed the life of my 5 children that my wife and I could not even pay for the wedding of our daughter. To Nationwide and their attorney thought it was all a big joke that we told them all off of this - he just laughed. He told me that I lost sight in my left eye was not their problem as I could not afford the deductible. When my partner and I started this we only wanted to create jobs and a good life for people. I had my house paid off and money in the bank and a steady income. I am 57 now and I have nothing and no prospect to any job other than a greeter at Wal-Mart.

The business practices and moral and ethics of Nationwide Insurance and Duffy Plumbing and Heating are what are wrong with America in a corporate example. They are in my opinion dishonest and dangerous to those who they service. If you have Nationwide Insurance I have started the hashtag #BoycottNationwide on Twitter. Use it, tell your story. It is time that only moral and ethical companies in America still do business.

I have been a loyal Nationwide customer for over 20 years both home and auto, premiums paid every month as required. Never really had any problems with them until March 2013, I had a house fire and my home was a total loss, the first realization that there was going to be a problem was the adjuster said "Why are you insured for such a low amount?" I told him I answered a bunch of questions the agent asked and even questioned the amount but he (the agent) stated "Don't worry you have replacement coverage," well the reality is, replacement coverage is basically a small portion of the policy limit 20% to cover what they call replacement coverage, the real problem is when an adjuster lowers the value of a home by manipulating the square footage just to obtain a lower rate. When there is a loss it creates a huge problem.

In my case my home was insured for 230k and should have been insured for 390k, Nationwide paid the 230k plus 20% and told me to "PH" off basically. When I rebuilt the home Nationwide reappraised it, now just to be clear, the house was built on the original foundation of the burnt home, same square footage, yes I moved some rooms around but not major add on's or changes. Nationwide now states the home is valued at $690k (yes triple), I have gone round and round with them but they refuse to make any adjustments, they claim that is what the rebuild cost would be (even though I just rebuilt the home for around half.

Fast forward to August 2015, I was finally able to get another company to write a policy for me, so I call Nationwide and request to cancel, I was told by law I have to provide proof of other coverage before they could cancel it, I requested to know what "law" was being referred to, the rep stated that mortgage companies require homeowners insurance, I asked is this the law she was referring to and she said she wasn't sure, I told her IF I had a mortgage and that lender required insurance that would be between me and that company not Nationwide, but being I did not have a mortgage I could do whatever I wanted, she said she would discuss it with her supervisor and call me back, never got that call.

In September of 15 I sent in an email and advised them to cancel the policy, I got an almost immediate response stating that I would have to send in a signed form letter to cancel, bottom line Nationwide never cancelled the policy until the monies I had paid ran out. In the interim I had a toilet overflow and ruin some hardwoods, I honestly thought I had cancelled the policy and just chalked it up to bad timing that is until I received a collection notice stating the policy was in effect until 10/2/15. I filed the claim and the first question was "Why did you wait so long?" "Because you idiots didn't cancel the as I had requested and now you're going to have to pay." Currently the adjuster is avoiding me and telling me she has to do further investigation, she said it happened in September so why be in a hurry now.

The house did not have water for a month and 4 days, but the cleaning company still came in and clean with no water in house. They brought water bottles to clean. The cleaning was not done very good. His house is about 3,000 sq ft and they spent 3 days cleaning from 10am - 3pm. Instead of using companies in our area they used companies that had to drive 2 and half hours away to come here.

He has been with Nationwide for over 25 years and they are the slowest company to use if you think you're going to get paid for anything. Guess what? It took them 2 months to send the new insurance bill stating, “Your homeowner’s insurance has went up due to the fire.” This insurance company does not give much information to their clients on what they should do since they have never had a claim before they don't want you to know much. He has had to pay a guy to cut the grass every week because the insurance said they will not give money for us to buy a new lawnmower yet and was informed since our lawnmower was a commercial one that cost of 7,800 we would be lucky if we even get 2,000 for something that is 2 years old.

All I can say is be careful and always hire a lawyer to help. He has learned from experience. If there is ever a next time a lawyer will be involved. As of today still waiting to be paid. The insurance company loves to state, “We are short handed on help and due to the holidays people have to take vacation.” Every time we call we are told, “The claim is sitting on my boss’ desk, waiting for it be approved.” Not happy!!!

I have had my homeowner's insurance policy with Nationwide since June 1995; that's 20 years of premiums that total approximately $24,000. Prior to my recent claim, I have had only one other claim to cover damage to my home from crippling ice storm in 1999. To their credit, Nationwide processed that claim quickly and quietly but then again there was not a home in my subdivision without damage, so there was little doubt in their part of what had happened. My son, who is diagnosed Bipolar, was robbed at gunpoint and lost several expensive electronic/digital equipment. He was, unfortunately, off his medicine and experiencing a manic episode; so his recollection of the events was not the clearest and his ability to explain what happened was not reliable. On top of this, he was jailed several times, among other extenuating circumstances.

We were given no consideration for our unusual circumstances and were treated like we trying to pull off an insurance fraud. What drove me to post this review was while I was discussing why my claim was denied with my claims associate, he actually said, "Wait for it." Nationwide had spent more money investigating my claim than they would have paid me if my claim had been approved!

Several years ago, I noticed a leak next to my fireplace, water on my carpet. I hired a contractor to find and repair the leak, which was a repair to my roof. Everything was good until several years later when I noticed water was entering my home again. Once again, I hired another contractor who told me that the was coming from in between the slab and brick next to my fireplace. Again, I hired a contractor and he sealed the area that he determined was causing the water to enter my home. The leak came back so I hired a third contractor that examined the area and saw no interior wall damage yet his meters indicated that there was moisture in the area.

He advised that it would be a good idea to call my homeowners insurance carrier who was Nationwide Insurance. Nationwide adjuster came out and said that the claim would not be covered. Ok, then I contacted the contractor to who advised me to contact my insurance carrier to help me repair it. Several weeks later my water heater leaked and caused a great deal of damage to my hardwood floors. Once again I contact Nationwide for help and once again claim was denied. Advised that there of evidence of a minor leak and I should have noticed it and repaired it before the water heater flooded my kitchen causing damage to my floor.

First, I had no intent have Nationwide pay the claims. I just wanted advice on who to go to that was qualified to make these repairs. I witnessed the inspection of both claims. A demolition crew can in on the water heater repair and measured my entire kitchen and the entire garage(where my water heater was located). Contractor advised that they would have to curtain off the kitchen area with plastic curtains because the smell that would come from removing the hardwood floor would be terrible. The entire cost of repairs was over $21,000 and all repairs were completed in January of 2015.

Now comes the non-renewal notice from Nationwide Insurance in June of 2015. My complaint, I took steps to repair the leak at the fireplace and was unsuccessful. Nationwide determined that my efforts did not matter. The water heater leak. I am partly to blame for not inspecting the water heater in the garage but there were no indicators that I would make me think that there was a problem. Nationwide turned down a claim that I made efforts to repair and then turned down a claim for me not taking steps to repair. Now Nationwide has reported to an insurance reporting Agency creating another problem for me. There report affected my insurance score and it is becoming difficult to find another insurance carrier to write my homeowners.

Nationwide insurance did not pay a nickel for the repairs to my home. I paid $21,000 for repairs. Now they add insult to injury and report that I am a poor risk. This just doesn't make sense to me, does it make sense to anyone else. I have had my insurance with Nationwide for 17 years. This is what Nationwide Insurance means when they are on your side.

I hired a public adjuster that charges nothing up front but gets paid 25% of the claim if successful.

Our roof is about 14 years old. We moved in 2004 when the roof was only 3 years old. In 2013 we had strong wind and rain that damaged about 50 shingles. We were with Liberty Mutual then. They only offer us $300 for the repair. Our deductible was $500. We did not take advantage of the claim fearing of our insurance premium might increase, so I bought shingles and repair it myself. As of today the roofer that came with the adjuster said that the roof need not be replaced and that it was pliable. Keep in mind this is in February 2013. It's cold out so I do not know what he means by pliable.

In November 2014 we had a small closet leak on the front of the house. We call and file a claim again and this time I also called a company to come and fix the problem that was from a valley and luckily it stopped after the repair. The insurance company once again said the roof does not need to be replaced. It’s still good even though it's at the end of its life according to this other roofer. They only paid for the guy to check for mold upon our request and found none. The repair paid by us because it was not over our deductible. Because of this and also because in 4 years (and before we even file the first claim) the premium went up from $400 to $900 so we switched to Nationwide with a yearly premium of $497 with a whopping $2500 deductible. We try to keep the cost of insurance down so our mortgage is still affordable for us. So this was November 2014.

On December 26 we receive in the mail a cancellation notice drafted on the 24th of Dec and with a policy termination date of Jan 8, 2015. This does not give us enough time to look for new insurance, as I understand that they have to give me 30 days and not 14 and on top of that during the holiday, which it made it more difficult to find people in the office working. The cancellation was because part of the roof looked like that the shingles had a bump or something under it and it needed repair and the shed roof was in a state of deep deterioration.

So I called them about this and I was told that the repair needed to be made for the coverage to be in force. I started calling around other companies and I was told that they need to put a request of transfer in to switch carrier and that they could still refuse to switch. I called again Nationwide and ask if I could have the shed excluded from coverage and was told that they had to check with their underwriter. In the meantime I get a roofer that gave me an estimate earlier and schedule to have the roof replaced not repaired. The only problem is the weather temperature are down to 15, 18, and 30 deg. and can not install with cold and snow. I again call the insurance and ask them if I have a contract signed and the half down payment made for the roof replacement if they can reinstate my policy and they said, "No the roof had to be on."

What they do not understand is that that bump has been up there for 5 years, the roof does not leak, and instead of repair it I am replacing it, and with the exclusion of the shed everything would be okay. Well needless to say time went by, we received our refund for the remainder of the policy and the mortgage company start calling us. Now I am the bad person overnight by paying my bill and playing by the rules I became a high risk and all this thanks to Nationwide.

My point is how come is my roof good and still pliable with the bump included for liberty mutual twice in 2 years but not acceptable to Nationwide? Why they did not give me enough notice? And also I had the impression that they did not want to work with me at all. Therefore the slogan: "Nationwide is on your side" is a lie. So I say that this could be false advertising and also the way they lay out to me looks a lot like extortion! So what's a homeowner’s recourse to this? Calling the insurance commissioner will do what exactly? They care about the business, not the consumer even if without the consumer there is no business. The insurance market for the home is out of control. They do as they please!

Now I do not know what to do. Premium will be so high and they caused this without even thinking about it! Thanks Nationwide. You totally suck and I wish all of your agents a crappy New Year as much as mine will be from the bottom of my heart.

I currently walk (barely) with a cane. I cannot get the surgery I need until I get back into my one-story house. I cannot get back into my house because Nationwide simply cannot settle a legitimate claim in a reasonable amount of time. I am 57 years old, I've never had a claim before, and I simply cannot believe what a nightmare this is.

The first (idiot) adjuster I dealt with was Faith. She refused to approve a general contractor to coordinate the removal of an island in the kitchen (large island requiring removal of a stone top, new top installed, cabinets replaced, etc.), wood floor repair and refinishing (continual wood floors throughout the house), drywall, paint, plumbing, electric, and painting. I travel about 50% of the time on business (I use wheelchairs to navigate the airports). I know nothing about construction. So everything stalled. Between road trips in a wheelchair, I demanded another adjuster. In all fairness, so far, the new adjuster Corey at least has good interpersonal skills. However, the entire corporate culture is simply poisoned and it impacts everyone. The company "adjuster" Kathleen is a total joke.

Everyone is paid not to cover the policyholder's loss. Ironically, their own incompetence costs them money. Every month I stay in a rental just runs up the bill even more. I will revisit this site as this saga continues. I am thinking of starting a daily blog about my experience with Nationwide and sharing it on social media. Just Google #NationwideNotOnYourSide to find me. And I urge you to get active on Twitter using #NationwideNotOnYourSide to let people know that this is a company to stay away from. (If you don't tweet, it's easy. Sign up and everyday just tweet #NationwideNotOnYourSide) If enough of us get active, maybe we can get some of the comedians to pick it up and highlight the pathetic, incompetent, and frankly inhumane business practices of this wretched company.

Remember: #NationwideNotOnYourSide. I end with a query: Remember from math that if A=B, and B=C, then A=C. If Nationwide is causing me stress (Not to mention keeping from needed surgery!), and stress is a causal factor in cancer, is Nationwide Insurance a causal factor in my deteriorating health? Stay tuned.

The fire marshal blamed an electrical appliance, i.e. a room air purifier, in my son's room (he has asthma) as the culprit. I filed my claim the same day with Nationwide. Believe it or not, the Red Cross showed up before anyone from my insurance company did. When Nationwide responded, Warren ** showed up and declared the property a total loss, as did the Aberdeen Fire Marshal. Mr. ** put us up in a hotel, was most courteous and professional. Something you don't expect from Nationwide, as we have learned from experience.

On July 11, Nationwide sent a claims adjuster, Susanna **, to evaluate losses due to fire in our home. Upon meeting Ms. Susanna **, it was explained to us she was there to inventory lost property as a claims adjuster for Nationwide. Now you might wonder, why would a claims adjuster inventory a property that was a total loss due to fire? The first clue that Nationwide is on your side was when the claims adjuster holds your arms and legs down. The next clue was when property, totally destroyed and unsalvagable, becomes itemized. Not where you purchased it, nor for the amount you actually paid, but from discount sites like Wayfair, Walmart, Overstock.com, etc. When these items were disputed, the first thing that Nationwide asks for is a receipt from where you purchased it. When you say the receipt was in the house that just burned, they give you the lowest internet price for "like quality", then subtract depreciation. Go figure.

Ms. **, representing Nationwide Ins., her job was to inventory property totally destroyed by fire. During the course of this inventory, which in my opinion was an absolute joke, we received an inventory list of the property destroyed. This is where Nationwide gives you an opportunity to supplement their inventory of losses. The list of mistakes would take too much time to list, but are documented. But the documentation I have is not good enough for Nationwide to finalize our claim. They requested appraisals for losses, which were LOST IN THE FIRE! Wow, how many idiots does it take to run a corporation?

We went through the expense of obtaining appraisals based on the documentation that wasn't destroyed by fire, only to learn some of the items required a second claim to Nationwide under the heading of Theft/Missing, while still other items are still in dispute, and our expert appraisals are not good enough for Nationwide. Numerous calls and emails have been ignored by adjuster **, to where we had to contact her supervisor, Larry **, out of Columbia, MD. Now you would think this might resolve some issues: Ms. ** visited the property once that is documented, July 11. However, ** and Mr. ** state that she visited the property twice to locate missing property from a total loss claim. But when questioned about the dates, they both refuse to provide dates.

On Sept. 12, Ms. ** sent us an updated inventory where the missing property was listed, as reproductions. However, an appraisal on the missing property documented was provided to Ms. **, then all of a sudden, the property cannot be located. We have asked repeatedly to Ms. ** and Mr. **, Should we file a Theft/Missing property report for the missing items from our home, in excess of $22,000, only to be ignored.

On Nov. 18, we contacted Nationwide's corporate headquarters to file the Theft/Missing property report, and spoke to Kelly, a supervisor who refused to give me her last name, but provided her email (**), and refused to let us file a Theft/Missing property claim, even though my policy is still active. One would ponder, How does property exist one minute as a reproduction or fake, at under $100, but disappears when an appraisal by a certified appraiser shows a value of over $20,000? I put it to you, the public, the reason I believe why Nationwide doesn't have shareholders is because no crook wants to share the profit. Again, this is my opinion. The federal government put Bernie Madoff in prison for a Ponzi scheme on the American public. The minimum wage worker, Grandma and Grandpa, Aunt Bee, and Uncle Bob, who worked their entire lives to save a dollar, only to be conned by a corporation, such as Nationwide. Again, this is only my opinion. I have spent over a hour reviewing complaints from average Americans against Nationwide, yet they exist and will continue to exist. It is like voting, we complain that the government doesn't act, that America has gone astray, there is no pride, no craftsmanship. Let us stop it!

I am one voice but there are thousands of complaints. Let us stop corporate greed! Stop the Madoffs that run America! Stand and say I won't take it anymore! I give you my personal email address and ask anyone with a legitimate complaint against Nationwide Insurance to ban together in a class action suit, and put this company out of business, or at least, accountable for their deeds! I look forward to your response, and if you have suffered a loss where you have paid a premium for coverage you did not receive, no matter how small, please let me hear from you. I am confident that together, we will stop corporate greed! After all, Bernie Madoff was stopped and the tobacco industry is collapsing. Speak up. Let us know who is out there. I close with a quote from my father, may he rest in peace, "stand for something or fall for anything." If you don't stand your ground, you have no one to blame but yourself, and as an American, I won't stand for it. Contact me and let's ban together to stop this corporate greed once and for all. This is not a sermon, just a thought.

I contacted the national number for nationwide in order to apply. The agent accessed the listing service and downloaded pictures from the sales listing. After reviewing the pictures, she asked me really unprofessional questions like, "Why is your house so expensive?" I explained the realities of the DC real estate market and shrugged things off.

A couple of weeks pass and I get a letter saying that someone would be coming to look at the property in order to confirm that the replacement value is sufficient. The person comes, measures the outside and walks the exterior property. He never comes inside but does ask me if the fireplace is wood burning or gas burning.

A short time later I receive an e-mail from Nationwide stating that if I don't remove my dangerous secondary heating source that they will cancel my policy. I immediately respond to inquire what exactly they are talking about and they confirm that the "danger" is my fireplace. I reply explaining that the fireplace is original to the home and is built into the wall along with a large stone mantle. They respond saying that my message will be forwarded to the underwriter and that maybe they didn't mean the fireplace but the deck... as if those two things are similar. I never hear another thing until roughly a month later when I get a letter saying that they were canceling my policy for not providing evidence that my fireplace had either been removed or installed by a licensed provider. Again, the fireplace that is original to the 25 year old single family home. The same one that I already responded about.

I send another e-mail to Nationwide pointing out that I had responded and had never heard another thing from them. They then ask for a picture of the fireplace. I send the picture and also point out that they had pictures at the time of application. I further ask how the inspector determined there was a hazard since he never entered the home. Again, radio silence. A few days later I get a letter saying that they withdraw the cancellation notice but, by that time I had already had enough of the incompetence. I got a new policy through Amica and cancelled Nationwide. I will NEVER consider Nationwide again and will warn others to avoid them as well.

Last year Nationwide decided to do a courtesy review of our (2) homeowners policies. 1 for our home, 1 for a house we rent out. They raised the coverage for both properties which raised my premiums and told me I either pay the higher premium or get another insurance carrier. Also, this "courtesy review" came with a list of conditions that had to be met before renewal. Some cost me money, some were stupid, for example: "trash on the front porch/safety hazard". I contacted the tenant and he had 3 water jugs on the porch the day of the inspection, waiting for the water man to replace with full ones. Same thing as other comments posted on this site, it was a big hassle trying to get pictures of the completed items. They would not come out and re-inspect, they said it was my responsibility to prove the items were addressed. Then the local insurance office started giving me problems, treating me like I was the problem. When I called Nationwide corporate, it was just as bad as the local agency. What compounded the situation was that over the 17 years with nationwide, I bundled all my insurances with them. What a hassle to leave, I would not recommend this company to anybody! Beware

I recently had braided water line burst, 16 days to hear from company after reported. Was told personal things are not worth anything. Their adjuster wrote they sent out cleanup crew sprayed for mold. This did not take place. Asked to have it changed so paperwork was correct. The adjuster left and said we don't have a claim. I think lawmakers should put some laws in for us instead of all for them. I would never use Allied Nationwide again. They are a dishonest company. I am looking for other insurance.

I shopped around for homeowners insurance when my last contract was up and liked the price I was quoted by Nationwide. But then came the headaches. They wanted the trees trimmed, and a few other things done. Okay, I did that. Then they wanted me to photograph the whole place for them. Fine. They didn't like the pictures, so I did it again. They still didn't like them so I did it again. About the time I was ready to go elsewhere, we agreed and wrote the policy and I paid them. About a month later they sent someone around to "measure the house" they said, and several weeks after that they called me up and canceled the policy stating reasons that we'd already covered and agreed upon. Now I have to go look for insurance all over again. I'll never deal with Nationwide again.

August 13, adjuster asked for the list of items to be split up and put in a Word or Excel file. August 17th, 2014, I sent the revised list in an excel file and asked if there was anything else I needed to do. August 20 emailed adjuster to confirm that receipt of the file, Adjuster replied that he had received it and was reviewing it. August 29th, 2014 emailed adjuster for update - no response. September 4, 2014, I emailed again asking for an update. Adjuster responded that he needed to have someone come and investigate. Ok come and investigate a month and umpteen rains after the fire, but please just do something on this claim.

I had painters paint my home a few years ago. The first rain after they had left water was leaking heavily into the garage. I called a Roofing and they made a repair to the flashing on the corner of the garage where it exits into the gutter. During the next rain, we did not notice any leaking into the garage. Fast forward - My wife and I are adding much to the front of the house where it meets the garage. I notice a small hole in the cedar window trim. I touch the area which looks fine on the outside but is springing back and forth with no support behind it. I call a Handy Man service who removes the siding and reveals the damage. The damage was to 4 exterior studs, the OSB, Insulation, Window Trim, Sill, and Siding. I put a tarp over the affected area until repairs could be performed. During the next rain, I went outside and noticed a small amount of water was spilling past the gutter onto the front of the house. This was the exact location where the flashing repair was performed as mentioned above.

I contacted Nationwide (My Home Insurance). During the next few weeks, they told me to get estimates and provided a construction company they work with. This company came out and took pictures and provided a estimate to replace all the damaged structure. They also sent pictures to Nationwide. After nearly two weeks had passed they finally said maybe we should open a claim. The Nationwide Adjuster came out, reviewed the damage and said before leaving this will not be covered as it appears to be ongoing. I told him and my insurance agent, that may be true, but we were not aware there was a problem until now. And that the damage appears to be the result of the roofing company's work. I felt my insurance should proxy this and contact this company's liability since their work is what caused the issue. This didn't matter to either the adjuster or the agent, and I received a denial letter.

Once my coverage ends with them, I will change insurance companies. In the end we paid for this costly repair out of our own pocket. It's clear to me these individuals are not in business to help victims like us, and are more interested in counting profits by not paying claims. As a footnote, the contractors that repaired this damaged agreed it was the result of poor flashing work.

We purchased a homeowner's policy through Allied Insurance, DBA Nationwide, in June of 2013. The broker we purchased the policy from was Tier One Insurance/Ahi Group; the agent was Kyle **. We were originally quoted $1098.81 for an annual policy, and we can provide documentation of the quote. Allied sent a bill to First National Bank of Omaha, our mortgage lender, for $1355.65. I immediately contacted our insurance broker, and he stated this was a pricing error. Kyle ** assured me this was our quoted price for the year; moreover, he stated the policy would not increase to this amount at our renewal date in another year, and if we had a policy increase, the only increase would be if Nationwide had an overall increase for all of their policy holders. Kyle stated these increases are usually in the 5% range when they do go up. Although First National Bank of Omaha paid out $1355.65 to Allied, we received a refund check for $256.84. This amount was deposited in our account on 07/31/2013.

I recently received our annual renewal bill with Allied. The bill states the policy is $1355.65 plus an annual increase of $95.83, which makes the total bill for $1451.48. I immediately e-mailed our broker to make sure that Allied would adjust the billing error, since we were assured by this agency that the price would not go up. Our broker stated he would contact Allied. On 05/21/2014, I received an e-mail back from my broker. He stated he had spoken to an underwriter with Allied Insurance, and despite what we were told last year, they are refusing to adjust the bill to the appropriate quoted amount.

Over the course of the last year, we have had no claims, and nothing else has changed on the policy. While I can understand the policy increasing slightly if they are increasing everyone's policy, it is wholly inappropriate to assure a customer that the policy would not increase to the misquoted amount. I wouldn't even think that it is legal to conduct business like this. Finally, Allied conducting their business like this makes the broker look terrible, warrants multiple complaints to the BBB, the Attorney General, and the Insurance Commissioner; it also increases the chances of the customer finding another broker and an insurance company because of the slipshod way that Allied conducts itself. If you have had similar problems with Allied Insurance, I would suggest you file reports with the following agencies: BBB of Des Moines; your state Attorney General or the Iowa Attorney General; and your state insurance commissioner.

Back in June 2013, my family suffered a house fire. I can go into a lengthy and horrific story of what has happened, but will give readers the best summary I can. The original Claim Adjuster became hard to reach, no return calls, and only when I contacted the State Insurance Commissioner's Office, he finally called us back 3 months later. He submitted us a check for $113,000 for an estimate to repair of $160,000.00. He was also looking to use a contractor that has know to have committed fraud. This contractor's past clients had nothing good to say about him. While all this was going on, our house had been retaining water, no electric for sump-pump in basement, and mold growing throughout. The reports provided had no Hygienist or Structural Engineer attached to estimate of repairs. I had to fight for this to be done, which turned out to be that one foundation wall needed to be replaced and special handling of mold. This Claim Adjuster was moved from property to another department, but recently has been stated to no longer work for Nationwide.

Sometime in November, we received a call from a Claim Adjuster out of Maryland that Nationwide assigned to us. At this point, my house has mold growing throughout. It is raining in my home. My basement does have electric and is draining water out of it. However, we are now into Winter. My house has not been winterized. We met with this Claim Adjuster and he informed me of my policy and what it covers and does not cover. Come to find out that he stated that I elected not to have coverage to include bringing the house up-to- code, if needed. You guessed it. My house is on a corner lot and was built many years ago against the set-back code in today's world. Even if I were to renovate this house, it is against code because of the percentage destroyed. I have 6 rooms, which only 2 survived (but have been damaged since). We also have to mention that since the house was not winterized, recently the pipes were tested and found to have been cracked because of NOT being winterized.

To date, we have an increased repair estimate from our contractor of over $200,000. Nationwide has their own contractor to say that it can be repaired for $170,000. My wife and I have spoke to an Attorney who thought we had a good case, but has come back to say Nationwide could want to fight this and it could be up to another 2 years before resolved. I have been with Nationwide for over 19 years paying on a policy that gives me $240,000 to rebuild, but they do not want to honor. On top of this all, the agent I originally signed my policy with no longer works there and someone else has indicated that agent signed me to areas indicating I did not want that coverage. I have asked for my original contract to review showing my signatures as well as the full policy to review. To this date, I still have not received. To think, someone spilling hot coffee on themselves at McDonald's can walk away with millions because it doesn't say "HOT" on the cup. Yet, I cannot get Nationwide to honor what I have paid them to do.

I recently applied for a HELOC at Nationwide solely based on a quick review of lenders and their HELOC rates. Shortly after submitting and documenting my application, I contacted Nationwide because I had not received status of my application. The rep on the phone was courteous and, after reviewing his computer system, told me that the underwriting team needed a couple more documents related to my income tax returns and income which I immediately provided. Weeks went by and I then received an email indicating that they have made a decision on my application and that were unable to approve my application at this time. The email also said Nationwide would contact me by mail explaining its decision.

Again, weeks went by and nothing came which prompted me to call them. I spoke to a lady who, from the beginning, sounded as if I had stolen one of her children from her home. She said the underwriting team had disapproved my application because I had not lived in the home more than six months. Where they obtained that information escapes me. I completed the application myself and showed them I had owned the property since 2010. By the way, my attempt to inquire where that information was taken from triggered a one way conversation from the rep to me to the point that I had to ask her why she was upset at me. She wouldn't provide me a direct name or contact person to resubmit evidence of my home ownership and simply said I needed to fax it to the number she was giving me. Anyway, Nationwide did not bother to contact me to confirm any information prior to, unilaterally, dismiss my application and sent me an explanation letter that never came.

Having read the reviews others have provided here, I decided that Nationwide is not for me and will not follow up or attempt to support my application. Some reps at Nationwide are rude and simply NOT customer service oriented. They do not seem to have time for customers and their issues. I enjoy a great credit history, income and debt-to-income ratio and only needed the HELOC for property improvements. Nationwide lost my business but, I'm just one unsatisfied customer amongst the bunch and others will come. It should not hurt anything on our other side.

I had several leaks in roof due to horrendous weather conditions of a harsh winter. Lots of snow and ice compounded storm after storm leaving me with a lot of water damage in several rooms. I had been with this company for approximately 17 years and put my first claim in and was extremely disappointed with the service and outcome. I was denied any help for fixing my roof. Nationwide hired their own Engineer to write up a report to discredit my claim. Meanwhile, the Engineer never even went up on the roof where I had put a tarp to investigate why it was leaking. When I asked the adjuster for a copy of the engineer’s report, he told me it was not their obligation to provide it to me.

Not only was I denied but I couldn't even see reports to as why?? They can say whatever they want and not pay on claims and it’s not their obligation to explain to me or anybody else. Very disappointed and will be looking for a new insurance company. It was almost evident upon the adjusters visit to my home he had a cocky attitude with the mention of not covering before inspecting. I wish I could of recorded the conversation. He was very condescending. However, I never expected this outcome, and I am not a happy customer.

I have often wondered why there is insurance. You pay the high premiums. You do this so that you are protected when something happens. Unfortunately, if you do put in a claim they tell you not to do it. I had water damage from a burst pipe under my sink. It was a 5000 claim. All went well. I thought this was great. Nationwide took care of it. Then two years later, I had another water problem in my back bedroom which appeared to be coming from the roof/or the electric heat pump that butted up against it. Well, Nationwide told me not to put in a claim. That I was putting in too many claims, I could lose my policy. I ended up paying for the repairs myself.

Now they say I am going to lose my policy in July because I have not kept up the exterior moulding around the roof, the fascia. Unless I redo the moulding which would require painting the house as well, I will lose my policy. And if I lose my policy, they red flag you and you cannot get recovered by another co. My best friend had her home broken into twice in one year. The second time she was molested. She didn't even put in a claim either time; and they cancelled her policy because of the police report that went in each time. She was a high risk. It took her forever to find someone that would cover her home. And she did not even put in a claim. I am redoing my home no and then I switching insurance companies. I have already dropped Nationwide from the other things I had them covering, car and life insurance.
