I agree with some the others posting. I had a lawyer that submitted documents and full medical files send and they say they didn't get them. Then, they have Allsup start harassing you two weeks after they approve you. Then, top it off this is where it's even worse. They represent that it's long term when it should be Loan Term because every dime that they have paid you they want back the minute you get SSDI. I am fighting this. $2200mo they pay you because of working for Amazon you can't pay rent, utilities, groceries, gas, phone and they say overpayment. This should be money that is yours. You earned it by working hard. You ruin your body via job like mine at Amazon. I have to get screwed over.

It has been awful dealing with them for both STD and LTD. They say they haven’t received documentation even with proof in hand that the fax was received. They change your analysis without notice. They delay and extend deadlines when it inconveniences you. They delay issuing payments even when your claim is approved. The agents are very rude. Absolute nightmare to deal with.

Absolutely MISERABLE to work with. After having my baby, we waited at least 7 weeks to receive income. Because of their poor communication, continuing to request further documentation outside of what we submitted within their specific requirements to be approved to qualify for benefits to prepare for my husband's leave and to ensure financial stability once our daughter was born. We were on the phone with them constantly throughout my emergency induction and an incredibly traumatic week in the hospital. It got so random and inconvenient to where they even asked for documentation from our newborn daughter’s pediatrician stating he was the father of our baby. How the pediatrician would be a reputable source for this.. Doesn’t make any sense. If that’s not the weirdest and strangest form of procrastination I’m not sure what is. Then they “overpaid us”.

As soon as they back paid us for the several weeks we went without income, we put all the money towards the bills we were behind on because of their terrible service, poor communication, and lack of organization. Anytime we called to speak to someone, we were on hold for 30 mins minimum and got customer service who were not aware of what was going on with our claim. They would transfer to the agent overseeing it, and we were immediately hung up on because the person we were transferred to never answered the phone. They are constantly calling asking for $1700 but are never willing to explain where or why the overpayment occurred.

Multiple customer service reps allegedly shared our concerns and frustration with management and stated they would get in contact with us. Of course, a manager or our agent never called us. If anything, this company has created financial hardship for my family. This has been a absolute nightmare when this is a benefit that should allow for families to bond with their new child. 10/10 would not ever recommend to anyone, and I hope employers look over these reviews before getting involved with this company on behalf of their employees. I will never suggest Hartford to anyone. They are the worse that I have ever dealt with. I filed a claim back in December and 18 weeks later they still haven't gave me my money. They don't communicate with the clients. They have caused my mental health worse than it should have been. They don't care about the clients. Because of them I have lost all respect for them and will never go through them again.

This is the worst company I've ever dealt with. Some background info. May 2024 I was having problems with my lower back, my family doctor gave me some different meds to try and referred me to a pain management doctor, he ordered an mri and decided to try epidural injections which helped, I did 3 sets of injections through 2024, December 2024 into January 2025 it got much worse, lost feeling in my right leg. Then my left leg and then I started getting paralysis in my left leg. My dept manager ask me to get a light-duty slip and take it to the company nurse. I took it to her January 16th, 2025, on my way back to my vehicle, I got paralysis in my left leg and I fell.

My work decided to put me on sick leave. I was contacted by a rep at the Hartford and everything was approved. I followed the surgeons, pcp, and pain management suggestions, did PT, epidural injections and felt better. I returned to work June 2nd, 2025. June 11th, I was called into hr and was told they wanted me to go back out, my family doctor said he thought I had a neck issue, which he was correct. So I went back out, and HR said it will be a new claim but the rep I got at the Hartford said no, it's still the same claim, and then said I didn't qualify; she refused to pay me for almost 4 months.

I finally got paid in October of 2025. After many months I finally had spinal fusion surgery on my neck in January 2026, since the Hartford didn't make it a new claim my claim ended 2-11-2026, I filed a complaint and I received a call from the head of HR from my work, he filed an appeal and then the Hartford decided, "Oh ok, we made a mistake, this should have been a new claim."

So they said we have to transfer the funds from June 29th of 2025, to March 8th 2026, I questioned why I hadn't been paid from 2-12-2026 to 3-1-2026. I received a payment March 10th and it was $19 more than the normal weeks. So my job contacted them about my pay. Today, I received an email from the Hartford explaining that they paid me 2-12-2026 to 3-8-2026. Now they need to explain to me how they sent 71.2% of my pay to the state and federal tax dept and sent me 28.8%. At what point did that look correct to this incompetent rep, they have destroyed my life, I've lost everything because of the incompetence of their claim reps.

Poorest customer service I have ever experienced! I have been getting the runaround for over 60 days. All required/requested documentation has been submitted several times. Rep refuses to approve/pay claim. Now she is not returning calls to me or employer. Total disregard for human suffering. I would give zero stars if I could!

My company employed The Hartford to disburse disability and I curse them both. While I was recovering from brain surgery and constantly submitting paperwork and following up with my doctors to make sure they were also submitting the requested paperwork, the Hartford was continually “losing” the paperwork and eventually denied my leave and pay based on a lack of paperwork. I would fax it, email it, send it via the mail—they never admitted to getting the most important of the documentation. The Hartford deliberately made my recovery as stressful as possible and I urge employers to never use them, even if they hate their employees.

This short term disability "service" was optional through my employer, save your money! They will complete a labyrinth before paying you one week at a reduced rate. Not worth it

I’d highly recommend that any company looking to offer this benefit to their employees, they do not go with the Hartford. The response time is terrible, my claim rep Laura ** was absolutely terrible. I had to constantly contact her because she never got back to me. Her lack of customer service is astonishing. I understand having to do your job l, but her lack of general customer service and empathy was so disappointing. It was almost like she prided herself on denying claims than helping people.

I completely disagree with their service. And I am completely unsatisfied. Basically my income is based off what they think is medically necessary to be off work or not. If Hartford says it’s not medically necessary but MY OWN DOCTOR puts me out of work because she deemed it to be necessary. Hartford will not approve you to be eligible for short/long term disability. So basically what your own doctor says does not matter. Which is COMPLETELY WRONG. I am completely against how this company works.
