I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Direct Auto Insurance. My policy was canceled on August 13, 2026, yet a payment of $192.29 was still processed on August 25, 2026. Trying to get clear answers about why I was charged after my policy was canceled and when I would receive my refund has been frustrating. Customers should not have to chase a company for answers or worry about money being taken from their account after their policy has already been canceled. The communication and handling of this situation have been very disappointing. Based on my experience, I would not recommend Direct Auto Insurance. I hope the company improves its billing practices and customer service so other customers do not have to go through the same situation.

Direct Auto is a rip off. They bait you in with a low rate then triple it before your first bill is due. I was quoted 328.00 a month. 1 week later I get a text that my bill is 1178.00 then get a text again for 785.00 then 1038.00 and they are rude and refuse to fix it. I'm switching and have only been with them 2 weeks. If I could give zero stars I would.

If you want peace of mind and just want to pay your insurance. And be covered and not have to deal with random changes or random cancellations for things that you didn't even do or they're misinterpretation on what you're saying, because there are only foreigners and forgive me, I don't know if that is the reason for the confusion, but to me it seemed like a con. I had them for a short, 2 months and had the worst experience. Two different random types of cancellation for ridiculous reasons. Then, a random upcharge for their misinterpretation of what I was saying to them on the phone.

Multiple people you have to explain the same story to over and over again. Trying to get 21 resolution, which never comes. Not to be the cherry on top, but after I finally switched, then I get a bill in the mail telling me that I owe them almost $70 for what they claim is 4 days of coverage. Even though those days of coverage, I was already paid for with my payment, which was upcharged from the previous month.

Stay Away! I canceled my policy (Policy #**) after this company hit me with unexplained rate hikes, a broken app system, and completely incompetent local staff. On June 15, 2026, I noticed my monthly premium suddenly jumped by $24 without a single notification or explanation. To make matters worse, the Direct Auto app showed two completely different amounts due for June: my normal $121 payment and a second charge for $145. Because my regular ACH date was June 13th and the funds hadn't cleared, I immediately tried to pause the automatic payment to find out what was going on. The app blocked me, claiming it was "too late." I went directly to the local Direct Auto branch inside the Walmart on Sparkman Drive in Huntsville, AL, looking for answers.

The representative there was incredibly rude, unprofessional, and entirely missed the point. He tried to claim my premium went up because I stopped the automatic payment—which makes no sense, considering I only tried to stop it after the price had already increased. Tired of the runaround and the terrible service, I called corporate on June 16th and canceled my policy. Direct Auto deducted $154 from my bank account, but they are only offering a pathetic $45 refund. This company operates on deceptive pricing, glitchy apps, and awful customer care. Do not trust them with your hard-earned money. Look elsewhere for insurance.

I thought I had finally found a good insurance company, but I was wrong. Twice they have gone up on my monthly payment. Claiming they couldn't draw the money out of my checking account, when two different times I have had to set it up for automatic withdrawal. They are screwing me every month, so I am going to speak with my attorney today and see about taking this matter before the courts if need be. Because there are many ways a person can be SCAMMED, and I believe this is one of them. NO. I DON'T RECOMMEND DIRECT AUTO INSURANCE COMPANY AT ALL ANYMORE!!! MY PAYMENT was supposed to be $88.00 per month, now it's up to $118.00 a month. And I just know that they will try going up again. That's why I'm going to switch to a different insurance company. Rolonda ** set up my policy, but now I can never reach her by phone or email, so I'm done with this monkey business!!!

So I should have known. It was pretty cheap...I mean, yay! BUT then I got into an accident. No one hurt, but the BMV asks for proof of insurance. I call, jump through all of the hoops. Finally talk to a human and give the sit. "OK, man yes I put that request in." A few minutes later..."ok that is taken care of, anything else?" I double check. So that proof has been sent to the BMV? Absolutely! She says. 3 months later, suspended license. So what I've learned is that if you don't have documentation, it didn't happen.

They DO not have your back. You pay then, for a simple piece of paper. Some acknowledgement that I have been paying them AND nope. Doing your job is just too much. So I guess it's good for getting your plates...not for anything real though. I am super mad. I am upset. Nothing I can do about it. Thank you, extremely lazy humans.

I have continually had issues with Direct Auto's DynamicDrive. I am IT for the National Guard, and I know how to use phones, computers and apps. Their app is the worst. I have walked through loading, activating and verifying the App works with Direct Auto Customer just to have it read 0 Trips recorded, thus being charged a $30 fee. I received another bill for $69 near the end of the policy, which I called on and they took the fee off, only to receive another bill after I did not renew May 27th, saying I owe them $69. I called today, June 06 to get them to dispute the fee and they said I'd have to prove I was using the App, which I deleted and discontinued in March, this is unacceptable. I network with many many soldiers, civilians and members of various car and bike clubs that I've told how bad the customer service and Apps are. **

I purchased an auto insurance plan from Direct Auto insurance. I had no claims, paid ahead on time always. When I found a cheaper insurance plan with GEICO I called to cancel my plan. There was less than a month left on my direct auto insurance plan I had already paid for in full and the agent did not tell me there was a cancellation fee, and it would be better to let it run its course. So I was surprised to get a bill in the mail! I called their representatives for a few weeks trying to get them to make this right, as there should be no cost for canceling, over those few weeks of trying to find someone to clear this, I got another bill with a late payment fee on the top of the cancellation fee. All the general insurance /direct auto folks could not help me, I even found a number of their collections agents who said they could do nothing. I cannot recommend direct auto insurance to anybody, avoid at all costs.

Refuses to work with us even tho we can't supply proof we moved within 30 days. We couldn't supply that proof till 45 days. So they charged us another months premium even tho we had already canceled. They also didn't tell us till after they automatically drafted our money for that additional month, that we could have easily submitted a simple form and the whole problem could have been avoided.

We were happy to work with them, we have been good customers. We just didn't have the docs within 30 days "they required", which isn't state law by the way. We have never had this problem with any other auto insurance company. They have made it so hard to cancel our policy. Then they charged us more even tho we we already canceled, they require PROOF we moved. I could easily prove we had insurance coverage. We just didn't have a rental agreement or a garbage bill cuz we were living with friends till we could get an apartment, and we had to await till we received our first pay stub. Which we submitted immediately, but they refused to give us our money back. Crazy!

I started my policy on January 20 and submitted all required documentation the same day. I received confirmation and the policy was issued. A week later, my rate increased because I had not yet used the dynamic drive app. I explained that the vehicle had just been purchased from an auction and was still in the shop. After clarification, they credited the account and adjusted the rate back. Shortly after that, I received an email stating they had not received prior insurance documentation despite the fact that it had already been submitted on January 20. I had to speak with four different customer service representatives before they finally located the documents. I was told the rate would be corrected back to the agreed amount. Two weeks passed and nothing was adjusted.

Due to the repeated billing inconsistencies and lack of follow-through, I canceled the policy before the next payment due date (the 20th) and switched providers. After canceling, I received an email stating I owed a balance related to automatic draft cancellation. This entire experience was frustrating and unnecessarily complicated. Clear communication, accurate documentation handling, and consistent billing are fundamental expectations when purchasing insurance. Unfortunately, this experience did not meet those standards.

If I could leave zero or negative stars I would. As a business owner, I know how important good reviews are. I also know that a bad review can majorly hurt a company, so I virtually never resort to doing so. Direct Auto, however, has earned every single word of this review. If you are considering using them, I would STRONGLY advise you not to, allow me to explain why. I've used them for a few years now, first year there was a small issue with the renewal process, but it wasn't too bad and I was made aware of it in advance. The last 2 years though, when it has come time they have stopped taking the auto-pay out of my account, and only informed me AFTER my policy was overdue and in cancellation status.

And since the state of Alabama (and likely your state as well) has a racketeering deal cut with the auto insurance industry, you have no choice but to pay their egregious re-instatement fee or be fined even more by the state for letting it lapse. So I paid, and was assured that the auto-pay would work from here on out. Come January, yet again, it hasn't been coming out, and yet again I am being charged another fat late fee in order to not lose it and be punished by the state for the one thing you can be forced to buy. This is after being told that if I paid the late fee and giant reinstatement fee (made the bill 3x more expensive that what I actually owed) then I wouldn't have to worry about it not coming out again.

I can't even imagine (though judging from all of their reviews literally everywhere I have an idea) how bad it would suck to have to actually rely on them doing their job and paying out in the event of an accident. I know that it would be a nightmare. Trust me, and literally everyone else who has used and reviewed them across every single review site out there, you DO NOT want to use this company. Their Indian customer service is just as useless as their two bit scammy coverage. You might pay more elsewhere, but not in the long run, and definitely not if you ever actually need them for something. They will find ways to steal money and won't inform you until after the fact. Or, as in my case, not until you owe a ridiculous reinstatement fee on top of the late fee for THEIR failure to take the auto-pay out.

Find somewhere else, literally anywhere else, and you will have a much easier go at it. Worst insurance company in the world, they don't deserve the 1 star I had to give them to leave this review. Don't believe me? Fair enough, please continue reading the rest of their reviews, literally anywhere you can review them. That is why they had to disable reviews on Google, they are actually that terrible.

Title: They added the guy who wrecked my car to my policy—without my permission. Review: This is about Direct Auto Insurance on Murfreesboro Pike in Nashville, but it reflects a bigger issue with how this company operates. After my vehicle was wrecked by someone else, I filed a claim with Direct Auto (Claim #**). Instead of helping me, they added the driver who wrecked my car to my policy without asking me. I never gave permission for this. I found out through a policy change notice, not even a phone call. It took multiple calls and way too much time to get that unauthorized driver removed. In the end, my policy was canceled.

The claims process was equally terrible. My adjuster, Ray **, called me once, then ghosted me. I left several voicemails—no response. I reached out to his supervisor, Julian **, and left two more voicemails. Still no callback. I had follow-up questions after the claim was denied, but no one at Direct Auto cared enough to respond. In the end, Crum & Forster, the other party’s insurer, stepped up and handled things professionally—even though I wasn’t their customer. Meanwhile, Direct Auto ignored me and tampered with my policy. I’ve switched insurance companies since, and I wouldn’t recommend Direct Auto to anyone. Cheap rates are meaningless if your insurer doesn’t have your back when it matters.
