I will never ever use Auto-Owners Insurance again. I was given a written quote with an annual premium receipt and set it up for monthly billing. I made one payment and then got a bill the following month in the mail that tripled my monthly payment and they refused to do anything about it. Refuse to call me for days and weeks. Punted it back to the local agent and in turn the local agent. Refused to handle it and blamed it on corporate. Zero satisfaction will never do business with them again.

I was in an accident, not fault of my own. Hit by a truck from behind. This person has auto owners insurance. It has taken almost a month to try and get car fixed. On top saying they would give me a rental, yet I have jump through hoops to get this rental car from them. This is one of the worse insurances I have dealt with in my 46 years of life. I can see why they have a 1 star. I hope no one gets into accident and the other person has this insurance because the service is horrible. Just trying to get my car fix and be able to get to and from work for the week while car in shop. I should have just sued at this point might have gotten a lot further. I just want my car fix and was trying to play nice, but looks like that needs to change at this point and let lawyers deal with this.

Please do not waste your money on auto owners insurance. I have not made a claim on insurance in over 30 year but had a minor accident. They will only fix a portion of the damage. There is a dent that is higher on the car than they think it should be so they’re denying the claim. I hit a tire on the highway and they will only fix under the car even though debris flew up and left a dent higher on the car. This happened in one incident but they want me to file an additional claim and pay another deductible. This is just their way to keep from paying as they should.

I recently had a frustrating experience with Auto-Owners Insurance that I feel compelled to share. First and foremost, my dealings with Auto-Owners Insurance have been my worst experience with any company to date. If you are not a policyholder, be prepared for a frustrating battle, even if they initially accept fault in an accident. To summarize my ordeal: Date of Loss: July 11, 2024. Towing and Rental Car Assistance Denied: July 24, 2024. No Resolution or Compromise on Claim: October 11, 2024. Despite them taking responsibility for the accident, I faced endless delays and a lack of communication. I reached out multiple times for updates, only to receive the same generic response: "Still processing claim with all involved." It felt like a deliberate attempt to drag out the process and avoid accountability.

My frustration reached a peak as I recognized their tactics of delay and non-responsiveness. I've now decided to take my grievances directly to their policyholder, as it seems that’s the only way to get any traction. I typically don't write negative reviews, but I felt compelled to expose the lack of integrity and terrible customer service I experienced. After an unfortunate accident, I expected a smooth claims process. However, what I encountered was a lengthy and convoluted ordeal. The claims representative assigned to my case was difficult to reach and often unresponsive. It took days to get any updates, and when I did, the information was often vague or inconsistent. My interactions were primarily with Brittany P. from their Tallahassee office, and I’m unsure if her incompetence is indicative of the entire company culture or just an isolated incident.

The total disrespect and disregard for my situation left me astonished. While they may have saved a few dollars on my end, I suspect that their long-term reputation will suffer due to the way they conduct business. If you're considering Auto-Owners Insurance, proceed with caution—this company may not have your best interests at heart.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. We paid our policy in full and with absolutely zero notice were cancelled due to non payment upon our renewal. Months later we get a letter from a debt collection agency stating that we owe ~$300 and need to pay immediately even though we were never invoiced any additional fees. So far we have received exactly one communication from auto owners letting us know that our insurance was cancelled months prior and we had been driving uninsured with no notice.

We have had a policy with Auto-Owners for several years, always paid on time. We were robbed recently. We turned in a claim within a week of the robbery. It took them 4 months to process the claim. We had to call them over 40 times, they kept coming up with these reasons to delay. Finally they sent us a denial letter because of an error on our paperwork. We corrected the error in one day and apologized. They still refused to pay us. We had to hire a lawyer to fight them to get paid. So far they have paid us nothing! Our claim, the loss in stolen tools and equipment, is over $43,000- and Auto-Owners has paid nothing.

They paid to fix our van and the other drivers car but then DROPPED US from their insurance and now refuse to pay and medical claims. We have our garage policy with them as well but shopping around. We will never do business with them again - they happily take your money but when you actually need the coverage you have been paying for for over 20 years they drop you! Hail damage claim. Once I started the claim someone contacted me via text, asking if I wanted to enable texting with my claim. I responded with YES. Phil the adjuster had called me to set up an appointment to meet to look at the damage. The day Phil had scheduled I was out of town. We agreed he would meet with my contractor. I texted the contractor's information. When Phil called me on the scheduled day 7/3/24 of the inspection I asked him if he had contacted my contractor. Phil said no, he did not have the information. I told him I had texted the information on 6/27/24. He stated he was not checking the texts. I did not have anyone on my side to protect me from the insurance company now. After Phil's inspection, he stated it was blemishes and Mechanical damage. Now I'm dealing with Chad, Auto Owners manager. He is sticking with what he thinks is Phil's professional opinion is.

I've had two roofers tell me there is more than mechanical damage and blemishes. Now Chad has sent me a certified letter basically stating now that there is a small amount of mechanical damage and blemishes, this roof is not going to be covered for any future damage. Their own website states the adjuster will work with the client to come to an agreement. I have never met Phil, so I don't know how we came to an agreement. It would have been nice for a professional looking out for my interests to be onsite with the insurance adjuster (Phil) who is only looking out for Auto Owners. I would never recommend this company to anyone. I've asked my agent to shop around for a better company. I've read other reviews about Auto Owners, a lot of them are basically the same thing I'm stating, Auto Owners does not want to cover the damage. The roof is under 8 years old.

They play games in order to deny your claim. I have had Auto Owners on some of my rental properties for years. I have never had a claim. I went with Auto Owners on my personal residence at the end of last year. Shortly after enacting the policy and paying the premium in full, they decided they did not want to insure our home. Their reason was that we were in the middle of a renovation and they wouldn’t cover us. The renovation is being done by my company that has been in business for over 25 years and has never had a claim either. Silly.

In the month they had to cover us due to the initial acceptance of the policy, a tornado hit our home. We live in the woods and lost 40+ trees. The tornado was a confirmed EF2 with winds in excess of 145 mph. The roof had just been replaced in November and the storm hit in February. Their claim is the damage is due to improper installation. We have been doing roofs for over 25 years. Obviously, not improperly installed. They just don’t want to cover the loss that they are contractually obligated to cover because they were stupid and dropped the policy. Now they will be sued, have to pay the claim and our attorneys and lose the free money they have been getting for years on a couple of our income properties. Not to be trusted.

This office has particularly horrible customer service. Rachel ** was assigned to my accident. It was a rear-end accident and should have been a pretty easy case. We were hit by their client who must have provided a false statement. We stopped for a yellow light, which is CO law when it is safe to do so. The person who hit us must have assumed we would run the light or perhaps was not paying attention. Either way they hit us prior to going in the intersection. Rachel denied the claim based on misinformation that we were in the middle of the intersection which is not at all what happened. I sent at least 5 emails over the span of Dec 8-Jan 19, I also placed countless calls that resulted in voicemail messages. Rachel never responded. Auto-Owners asked me to remove my first review and contact the company. At this point Rachel reached out immediately and took a verbal statement.

Several days later I got another letter in the mail from Geoff ** stating they stood by their opinion that the accident was partly our fault, again stating that we entered the intersection on a green light and came to a complete stop in the middle of the intersection. Ever seen that happen? Me neither...and it didn't in this case either. Now I'll have to pay my deductible and wait for Progressive to subrogate because Auto Owners won't admit that the accident was the fault of their client. I called Geoff and emailed him, but no response. Very unprofessional and clearly lacking ethical behavior. I would never choose this company to insure anything based on this behavior - unless you enjoy being ignored.

Policy premium for 50k. So of course there was an upcharge for each 6 month premium. Bike was totaled in July and they are refusing to pay on the 50k policy and refusing to fix the vehicle. After 4 months of waiting they have sent my belongings back to me that were all ruined due to water damage. They requested all receipts for upgrades only. That alone was 50k not including the bike itself. The first offer was 12k to settle, second offer was 28k, third offer was 32k. Never a late payment. Never had a claim.

While other insurance companies are giving discounts for Covid 19 and people driving less and businesses closing or working short hours. Instead Auto Owners decided to increase my premium by over $1,000. I don't know why nor do I know of any credible reason they would send me a rate increase. I feel like this is a just a business practice they feel like they can get away with. Send out a quote (me I paid the year upfront to save a couple hundred dollars) but then they keep sending invoices. A couple hundred here and there. The latest one was another $829. WHAT WAIT.. I paid the year upfront so I wouldn't be billed monthly.

I've never had a claim or any way to review how good they are when needed, just paying and paying more than even quoted. So our business has slowed but luckily. Not stopped or closed down. Our hours have been cut in half and as for employees we are a small family owned company with just my wife and I as employees. So 1st we had a $304. increase in March and NOW a $829. Increase in May. I had $50,000 in medpay and had to exhaustively fight for less than $10,000. They lost my business so they could save $2,000 which I paid out of pocket.

They also are on the vanguard in initiating state legislation to limit their medpay coverage to a year after the date of the accident. Woe be to someone with a serious ongoing injury from a car accident in Colorado for instance. They don't let customers know this; it's embedded on page 40 of my coverage. They explain that "we just pay for acute care and the customer can just use their private insurance after a year". We know acute injury can last well past a year. I'm going to be as brief as possible, I have a commercial truck policy. I have been with this insurance group for over 5 years. I have paid my policy on time, and have never had a accident until 7 months ago. Which was a fender bender. No major damage, no hospital visits, NOTHING! This group, brought my policy up 2,500.00 dollars, not to mention, also paying out 8500.00 dollars to the person hit, who was obviously looking to scam them. He himself was hit by a dump truck where his vehicle was totaled and car was totaled, 2 weeks prior, and I believe they failed to investigate that.

They put my policy in another tier, they lessened my coverage rate, and altered my amenities. They pretty much didn't give a **, about me, and the 5 years of solid consistency I'm thrown in a tail spin. Where is the protection? Where is the benefit? I could see if I was a holder of the policy for 1 year but 5 years and you have the audacity to say thank you for being a policy holder of 5 years.. I've been robbed.. And I failed to do research on the reviews of this company, I'm PISSED!

Their client hit my car. Each case has one agent and you MUST go through that individual agent for that case/claim. The agent assigned to my claim was very negative and non responsive from the beginning. I tried for two weeks to contact her (again/still) to get a rental while my car would be in the repair shop. My discovery, after having to go through my insurance company, was that she was no longer with the company. That was very strange and inexcusable because her voice mail, which I had been leaving messages to, was still active and APPARENTLY NO ONE WAS RESPONSIBLE OR CARED. It appears they will leave you in the ditch if it cost them anything.

I have never had more problems dealing with an insurance company. First of all I work for a health insurance company and I know how to treat people with respect and I have an idea of how things work. I have been covered with them for 6 years and within the last year I was in two car accidents, both which were my fault and got a ticket for. I have never had a ticket or claim with them up until this year. Then I get a letter and they are kicking me off their policy. For what? Two claims? Isn't that what insurance is for?

And both times I had to deal with them in going over car repairs and who was at fault and even talking to them on the phone I always got the run around. Most normal insurances will just raise your premium but no. Instead they just flat out kicked me off. They always have the worst customer service any time I have called and are nothing but difficult to work with because I have claims. I will find a decent insurance who treats me with respect when I call instead of being rude to me because I have a claim.

This review is coming from someone who isn't insured by Auto Owners, but had to file a claim after an accident. Back on 12/29/2019, I had been backed into while looking for parking at a local mall by someone who was already in a spot. This person was insured by Auto Owners. The moment I saw the name, I had a gut feeling that I was going to get screwed over by them somehow. The claims process goes through rather easily and I manage to get my car into the shop with their estimate on 1/15/2020. As of writing this review, I've been actively contacting them to try and get the rental (which they said they'd handle) and my claim's agent has been avoiding my calls. I've left at least 4 voicemails by this point and no call backs whatsoever. Based on the other reviews I've seen, for the sake of both yourself and for those who you may end up trading paint with, do not use this company.

Auto-Owners has by far been the WORST insurance company I have every had. Bad doesn’t even begin to explain them. We switched providers in 2018 due to our previous provider increasing rates. Our local insurance broker gave us quotes and Auto-Owners was significantly cheaper for an auto and home policy. We were initially concerned with the low price and the coverage/service we would get. Our broker assured us they were good so we trusted them and made the switch. Let me say, we quickly realized you pay for what you get and our broker was very wrong about Auto-Owners.

Shortly after signing up we got a notice from Auto-Owners saying our home policy would be canceled for non-payment. We have a mortgage and our insurance payments are handled by the. Never had this been an issue in the past. When I called our mortgage company they said they had never received anything from Auto-Owners. I called Auto-Owners and they said they sent it. Again, never has our mortgage not received a document or payment request for us from any of our previous providers. This was our first red flag but I chose to keep them and thought that maybe it was just a mistake. The problems started spiraling from that point. Unfortunately we had 2 claims with Auto-Owners in less than a year due to no fault of our own. One claim was a tornado and the other was a vehicle accident where someone ran a light and hit me.

The tornado happened first. I was initially quite impressed with the thoroughness and the quickness of filing the home owners claim. We had the claim filed, a rep assigned and an adjuster our all within 5 days. It was quick. Our rep for Auto-Owners seemed like she was going to be awesome until there was a discrepancy in the amount they were paying for damage. The moment I told her I wasn’t agreeing to the amount is the moment her switch flipped.

From that point on she was extremely combative, she lied, she had us get different appraisals out just to then tell us that what was being appraised wasn’t in our policy Why even waste our time or the specialist time for something that wasn’t in our policy? Just do your job and tell us that from the beginning! She was so awful that our local broker got involved and they were shocked by her customer service and attitude. Our broker told us that was completely out of character for Auto-Owners and that we were working with the catastrophic dept, which they rarely work with and we hopefully wouldn’t have to work with again.

Never did a manager or anyone higher up from Auto-Owners call me despite this being escalated to leadership. It was clear that customer service in this dept wasn’t a priority. At renewal our auto policy jumped up quite a bit (seemed higher than usual increases). Then in December I was in the vehicle accident. I wasn’t at fault but was legally advised to file with my insurance company and let them do the fighting with the at fault party. I followed this advise. Again, filing the claim and the quickness of having an adjuster out was impressive. Like the last claim, after that it went down hill... again!

We were satisfied with the total loss amount they were giving us so we accepted the offer. We owned our car so followed the instructions given by the Auto-Owners rep to send our title to them. I was assured a check would be cut the same day they received the title. They also took our rental car away 3 days after giving us our offer total (this was Christmas week). We had to go purchase a new vehicle on Christmas Eve and we’re out a significant amount of money until we got our check. A couple weeks went by and still no check (I gave it extra time for the holidays before following up). When I called I was advised that they never received the tittle. I later found out that our Auto-Owners had given me the WRONG zip to mail our title! He gave me the zip to his physical office not the zip to the PO Box where the title is mailed. HOW DOES THIS EVEN HAPPEN?! Now our title is lost in the mail!

I called his manager and our broker again escalated it. Like the last claim, no one in leadership has contacted me to apologize or offer any assistance. It is evident that customer service is not a priority in the least bit for this company. Another point to note with Auto-Owners policies is what they don’t cover in the actual vehicle. They cover $200 total for everything in your vehicle- EVERYTHING! We had 2 Britax car seats that couldn’t be used again and only $200 was covered for those- we were Automatically out over $500 just for those. Thankfully the at fault policy covers much more than Auto-Owners and is reimbursing us for the car seats (minus the whopping $200 Auto-Owners gives).

Lastly with this claim, I was told my Auto-Owners would be filing with the at-fault insurance provider. That was never done. I had to file with them which ended up being 2 weeks late because Auto-Owners failed to do their job and what they advised me they would do. At this point (over a month later). 1. We still haven’t received payment for our total loss vehicle so we are out a substantial amount of money since we had no choice but to purchase a new vehicle. 2. We still have not received payment for the car seats from Auto-Owners despite the receipts being sent over a month ago. We have received the difference in car seats from the at fault insurance company (Erie insurance) even though that claim was filed over 2 weeks after the Auto-Owners claim. 3. We had to pay for a duplicate title now we’re just waiting for that. 4. Still no one from leadership had called me or even acknowledged this significant rep error.

Please STAY AWAY from Auto-Owners. They are awful. Sure they are cheaper but I assure you there is a reason why! You definitely pay for what you get. There is zero customer service and support when you file a claim and you’ll be lucky to even receive payment in any sort of timely manner. We will gladly be paying more for new more reputable providers from this point on.

But recently I received a slap in the face by Auto Owners serving their own self interest. I have a fleet of 5 vehicles with 4 drivers on the policy. I recently had one of the drivers removed from the list as they drive their own vehicle 100% of the time anyhow. In effect you would think that the premium would go down with 25% of the potential risk being extracted from the list. Three drivers over five vehicles. Instead the money magic wizards at Auto Owners decided to increase my premium by almost $200 on the last payment. They said that sense a preferred driver was removed I must pay more. However, all the drivers where on the plan before and it cost me less?

It makes no sense. I reduce the risk and pay more? Needless to say my agent was of no help "whatsoever". I discussed this with another agent. And he stated that many agencies look at shifts as opportunities to bilk an increase rates regardless of the change. It is up to the agent to properly protect you, but often they won't if they can get away with it. Needless to say I have this company for my business and fleet which is a substantial amount of money flying their way for a business customer that has never filed a claim in 5 years on any of their insurance.

I eventually blocked my number when I called and miraculously they were there. At this point 4 weeks had passed. They now tell me they have sent it to attorney for review, really so the insured states it was the fault of his shop and offered to pay, Auto Owners said they were paying for all the damages but made an extremely low offer and now they have retained legal counsel.

We are well beyond 2 months almost 3 for something cut and dry and still waiting on Auto Owners. I would advise anyone and everyone to stay away from this company. If they won't pay put third-party claims. I can only imagine what they do for their insured's. Horrible horrible claims between Dan ** and Cindy ** in the Sioux Falls claims office and the Americlaims they use for appraiser. This company wants to pay bare minimum and below.

In October 2017 I was rear ended while stopped at a red light. Other driver did not even brake as he was busy talking on his cell phone. My car was totaled. Back end was dented in but tow system underneath helped prevent it from crushing in further. I’m a no nonsense person & just wanted to get to work. Within 5 minutes my neck felt horribly sprained. Within 3 hours my brain just shut down, nauseated, blurred vision... went for medical care & found to have neck injuries & bad concussion. Have been told tow system helped car but caused a bigger impact to me.

For over a month & a half had trouble speaking because my brain couldn’t find words. At times that is still an issue. I returned to work too early at my own insistence & against my doctor's advice. Auto Owners by law & contract should pay the first $10,000 of medical bills. They are denying all bills & have the audacity to say I’m fraudulent in my claim. 3 doctors including a neurologist, along with 2 PAs have said I have concussion. Medical is still ongoing, costing me 1000s along with ruining my excellent credit.

I’ve always lived with integrity which is why I didn’t just rush off in an ambulance for claim's sake, I’ve also gone to docs only when absolutely necessary. I’m a dedicated worker but coworkers are having to pick up my slack as my brain is not working right, not the same since the accident. This company is flat out evil. I was a safe driver for 41 years. Never had claims & this is how they treat people.

When I went to pick up the check the check was in mine and my ex-girlfriend's name when her name is nowhere on the title only on the insurance policy. This is completely ridiculous as she has nothing to do with this vehicle. Has never made a payment or paid the insurance on this vehicle. Nor does she drive this vehicle. It is mine. I need to get my vehicle fixed but they chose to put the check in both names. It should be just mine. Now I'll be lucky if I get any of it!

All around great insurance for the price that I pay for premiums. They have always been fair with me. When I had a vehicle totaled after a car/deer accident Auto Owners paid me fair market value for my car. It was a fairly painless process and took about a week. My only complaint, and it is very slight, is that you have to purchase an Auto Owners insurance policy through an agent, instead of being able to purchase directly from the company.

Our son was rear-ended on May 11, 2018 by a man with Auto Owners Insurance and they do not want to pay the full amount to have our son's car repaired. The accident was completely the other guy's fault and the police report states that. Our son's car had a cracked bumper and a completely broken exhaust. They paid for the bumper and only part of the exhaust. They said we need to just have it welded instead of replacing it. Well, that is unacceptable. The accident was not our son's fault and yet they do not want to repair his car. The exhaust was barely hanging on and he needed to drive it to work. The appraiser they used was a jerk and had the model wrong for the car, he had the lower end model listed and it is the high end model and he low balled the estimate. We have been through 3 customer service reps and none of them listen to us.

They said the exhaust should be welded and that's it. They also do not want to pay for the rental insurance on the rental they gave him for a week. They said it's because he doesn't have collision on his own vehicle so that's on him. Again, the accident was not his fault, he should not be out any money. We had an independent estimate done by Abra Auto Body and Glass in Milford, Ohio, per their request to prove the repair amount and they still won't pay. They don't even care that he went by ambulance to the hospital for a mild concussion either. They also don't return calls and they are never available when you call them. My sister has been in 2 accidents since this happened to our son and both times the insurance has paid. It shows that Auto Owners likes to punish the person that their insured hits.

Our son has had to pay for a new exhaust mostly out his pocket and my husband had to put it on, we could not afford the repair shop to do the repairs because we weren't given enough money. We even took the car for a 3rd estimate but they haven't budged. Our insurance company (American Family) has actually paid the medical bills because Auto Owners has refused. Again, our son was rear-ended. This insurance company is a joke. I would never recommend them. It's been 4 months and this is still going on, ridiculous.

After reviewing my Doctor's notes, Therapy notes, MRI's, CAT Scans, X-Rays and Surgical notes I was offered $2,800 from "Tim". I am 3 weeks post neck surgery. I had two vertebrae removed and repaired with a metal plate. I still have a Syrinx (Fluid filled cyst) on my cervical spine from the impact of the rear end. In July of 2018 I was involved in an accident with one of their insured. I was traveling eastbound when I came up on an intersection they isn’t complicated to work. Their client was traveling westbound preparing to turn left (would then be heading south). I had a solid green arrow and the insured had a flashing yellow arrow, which means yield to the right of way. The insured wasn’t paying attention and began to turn left as I was entering the intersection, I went to slam on my brakes I was unable to stop in time, and collided with the car.

After immediately filing a claim with them that night it has been a horrible and draining experience with this company. First I got a call from the adjuster and he told me he was going to be in town from 11am-4pm the day he called to schedule to meet me. As I had to work I told him that wouldn’t work. He said he was going to be driving back through town around 6 and I said that could work but I wouldn’t be at home and asked if he could meet me at a different location. He agreed and still ended up being 25 minutes late. The adjusted estimated $2100 worth of damage which we immediately knew was incorrect. I continued to drive my car because I had not been told I shouldn’t be. My hood was buckled and we knew that, but in the state of Kansas it’s illegal to drive with a buckled hood as it could be dangerous, which you’d think the adjuster would have informed me of that stipulation.

After finally getting the repair approved I took it to a repair shop. (Luckily we got to choose the repair shop so we took it to a local business who’s been in business for decades and is very helpful.) The repair shop immediately told us the estimate was low, how low he had no idea. After a week of trying to get the adjuster back in they explained that his adjustment was only half of what it would actually take to repair it. After almost another week of nothing we were informed that the agent decided the car was a total loss, which according to KBB, NADAguides, and Edmunds should’ve been a total of $5200 and Auto Owners claimed the vehicle was only worth $3400, which is completely unacceptable.

Some issues not mentioned include trouble with a rental car, trouble with the agent not being available for days at a time with no urgency to get back to us, among basic disrespect and nonprofessional handlings. Auto Owners has been a nightmare to work with and I don’t recommend insuring anything through them. They employ inconsiderate, bottom feeding, power hungry people. I am so sorry for anyone who has or will ever have to deal with this joke of a company.

I have a Michigan Catastrophic PIP Claim with Auto-Owners Insurance Company which began on May 28, 1999 and continued without much difficulty after that. When I did receive a period of difficulty from Auto-Owners in 2013 I was able to resolve the issues myself with the help of Healthcare providers. In September 2016 the little to no difficulty I had become accustomed to regarding Auto-Owners Insurance Company's handling of my claim drastically changed. Following the beginning of September 2016, I have received a great level of difficulty that has continuously elevated. April 5, 2017 is the date of the oldest denial made on my claim by Auto-Owners I consider unreasonable. The denials I have received have been reasoned with speculation.

Even after sufficient medical evidence has been submitted to Auto-Owners by Healthcare providers and myself disagreeing with the denials, Auto-Owners has refused to acknowledge the medical documentation submitted providing proof of medical necessity. The denials have been stubbornly perpetuated by the Michigan Catastrophic PIP Claims representatives and their superiors. As a result, beginning April 4, 2018 I will begin to have necessary claim related medical mileage and miscellaneous expenses which have been denied become unrecoverable.

Auto-Owners claim representatives have denied this insured's claims using speculative, false and misleading statements to what is covered hoping I am uninformed, naïve or gullible enough to accept the denials as they have stated. In addition, they have used speculative, false and misleading statements as their reasons for denial when Healthcare providers have submitted disagreements with supporting medical evidence. When my attempts to have my coverage honored by Auto-Owners Insurance Company continued the Claim Representatives and the people in positions of authority above them have "dug their heels in" and continued to stubbornly refuse coverage. I believe this is like any "playground bully" who takes something from you and refuses to return it to you no matter how much you beg or reason with them.

Even with sufficient well documented medical evidence in my claim file (for almost 2 decades) the coverage being denied is reasonable and medically necessary they have remained steadfast with their speculative, false and misleading reasons for denial. Denial of policy coverage made by Auto-Owners with NO medical evidence and based on speculation has been considered unreasonable by Michigan courts and supported by the State of Michigan Appellate Court when Auto-Owners has appealed these decisions.

I do not access or attempt to access any treatment, therapy, service or provider that is not supported as medically necessary for my care, recovery and rehabilitation of injuries sustained in the claim related MVA. Both my Healthcare providers and myself are diligent in documenting and submitting all the necessary medical evidence.

I understand how denials for $150.00 here, $800.00 there and even a few thousand dollars may seem like they are only "nickel and diming" me. That may be true if you receive a regular employment income. Unfortunately I am permanently disabled from the injuries I sustained in the claim related MVA. I survive on a Social Security Disability fixed income. Thus, I rely on reimbursements to replace the personal funds I am required to use from the fixed-income I survive on from month to month. Without the ability to recover the miscellaneous expenses I suffer because of my continued care, recovery and rehabilitation from these injuries I will not have the ability to continue my necessary care, recovery and rehabilitation. If this happens I will lose the mental, emotional and physical ability to perform the necessary activities of daily life.

Do you want an insurance company that will take your money, then invent loopholes to get out of paying when you make a claim? Then Auto Owners is the company for you! My story is long and involved: suffice it to say, what they did wasn't just against common decency, it was actually in breach of their own contract language. They agreed to cover a loss assessment as part of my homeowner’s insurance, then when it came time to pay, they wasted time "reviewing my claim," before inventing an excuse to deny it by interpreting deliberately ambiguous policy language to their advantage. I'd be happy to share additional details with anybody who may be interested.

I've literally never published a negative review before today. I consider myself a pretty reasonable person. These people are untenable. Homeowners insurance exists for situations like this. You don't need an insurance company that won't honor their agreement to pay covered claims. Better to go with a company you know you can trust. This is a textbook example of a big company that couldn't care less about their customers' experience, as long as they keep making money. No accountability, they won't even follow their own contract. Do not, under any circumstances, give your money to these fraudsters. I wish I never had.

Stay away from Auto Owners Insurance. This company is far from professional. No compassion or integrity. Our problem started back in December when their insured rear ended my wife. Not one phone call from this company to see if she was ok or to take care of damages. Instead I had to track the number down and 5 phone calls later I get called back and still no one asks how she is. While speaking with Noel who never calls you back I let him know about the diminished value and he said, "Wait for car to be repaired then we can discuss it which is protocol," so we took the car in and had it repaired. I then paid $415 for a professional diminished value report and called Noel 5-6 phones calls voicemails. No callback.

Finally I called and got him on the phone. I told him the diminished value came out to $6058. He said that’s not gonna happen. They never pay out that so he has to speak to his manager. He told me to email it over which I did. By the way during this whole ordeal the manager never called once. So I emailed it. Over a week went by I called and left voicemails. No response. I finally spoke to the receptionist she said they received it. I waited a few more days so I called again. No call back so emailed stating I was gonna seek legal action and I received an email back from Elizabeth the expediter. She apologized and had Noel call me. He said they did their own diminished value and came up with $410.

I laughed. Not happy. He then asked how my guy came up with the amount. Really. I said, "You should know that he used the diminished value formula. I believe it’s a 17c formula." He then asked me to send over the report. I said I did. He said no then put me on hold and said, "Oh yeah we got it." He asked if he could call the company I used. I said yes. A week goes by he never called so 6 phone calls voicemails later still no call back so I emailed Elizabeth back and said, "This is not right. I’m seeking legal action," and she emailed me back that she can no longer help me or Noel so he never called back. I have to seek legal action and pay for a lawyer now.

What hurt they don’t care about you. I never seeked legal action for bodily injury or lost wages and time we showed nothing but good faith meaning while they are breaking the rule as stated in Department of Finance for all Florida insurance companies to follow it's a good faith law or ruling. We are just looking for $6058 loss of value and $415 for appraisal and I lost $500 worth of wages due to me being self employed. I lost a lot of time. I think I’m being fair nice company. What do you think. 3 months is way too long.

Please!!! Pay attention to all of the bad reviews about this company. My wife and I had the same Home Owner policy for 9 years and decided to give them a chance with our Home Owners policy being that we had an auto policy for 1 years with them. The policy was just supposed to be transferred over. Thanks to Ann Marie, deciding to rewrite the policy for a higher commission the company of 9 years dropped us. They give you a low rate in the beginning and then raise your rates every 6 months for no reason. They are incompetent, corrupt, deceitful, avoid them at all costs.

These people are deceptive, you would be wise to not do business with Auto Owners Insurance. They claim they can raise your premium at any time, without notice, or reason. I just got a 3 week notice to cough up 2.5 times the amount I already paid them. And I already paid them in $850 full. For the record, I never made a claim for anything in the five years I have done business with them. In November of 2016, for the 2016-17 policy, they sent an initial quote for the year for $850; then with two months left in the year they sent a bill for an additional $990 because they claimed I missed an audit. This year 2017-18, on November 15th of 2017, I paid the $850 again - and again I paid the premium in full. Today Feb 24th, 2018, I just received another notice that my premium more than tripled, they are requesting another $2056.00 on top of what I already paid them.

It's no secret I have an open construction permit with the local building department on a job that I have going. I have to have liability insurance or else I cannot call for an inspection. Like I say it's no secret and the permit can be viewed online at any time. I suspect they just sit back and watch your permit history and the progress of your job, and when the time is most convenient for them to pull the rug out from under your feet... They send you a ransom note - either pay up or be canceled.

I suspect that Auto Owners Insurance is running a racket, they figured out that if you pay them their ransom money once, then there is a good chance you'll pay them the ransom money again. I soundly advise you stay as far away from Auto Owners Insurance as possible. The money is just the tip of the iceberg with Auto Owners Insurance. They will not communicate with you, they do not want to spend the time to service their policies, and don't hold your breath waiting for them to answer the telephone or an email, because you'll be blue in the face before that happens.

Moreover the middlemen in the deal, the insurance broker, is a joke. The policy reads that one company, Primary Company - XYZ-01 is supposed to handle the policy, however, when you call them, they claim they are not the my insurance agents, and that a Subsidiary Company, XYZ-02, is really my insurance agent. So then you call them, and you get shuffled around again; and at the end of the ordeal, you are still not sure who the actual insurance agent is anyhow. If all this sounds familiar, it's because it's a lot like a shell game - its 3 Card Monte, if you please. Which shell is the pea under? I suspect if you picked up all three shells, you'd find the pea isn't under any of them. Not that it needs repeating, but there is something funny about Auto Owners Insurance that I don't find comical in any way, shape, or form - stay away... Stay far away - stay far far away - these folks are playing with a stacked deck. And there is no way you can possibly win!

The original AO adjuster that was sent out never even inspected our roof or attic where there was damage. Thus their estimate was significantly off from what needed to be repaired. Auto Owners has continued to spin us around in circles, sending out a second adjuster and now sending out an engineer. We are very disappointed in their response to our home repairs. We have been displaced from our home with our dog and 2 year old son for close to 4 months while we continue to feel like Auto Owners just doesn’t care that our home is a disaster! Auto Owners was very highly recommended based on their customer service and response to claims, our experience has been less than pleasant and very stressful. I don't know.

Jason wrote in his report he didnt notice damage to the gutter guards and she doesn't even have gutter guards, then he sent an "engineer" out that I believe was his first day on the job, when I was on the roof with both of them you could tell they weren't even comfortable on a roof even with their special Martha Stewart roof shoes, the engineer didn't even do a chalk test, I asked him as he was getting out of good pinto, "Where's your chalk" he acted like he was out, so he came unprepared, and it took him a month to do his report. My grandmother has never even filed a claim. The main reason they turned her down they say due to the age of the roof, that is 20yo. AUTO OWNERS IS A JOKE. STAY AWAY, JUST READ THEIR REVIEWS!! I had to dispute them for 18 months and they still haven't made it right. Their process involves sending an engineer who finds no damage and sides with the adjusters initial findings. Then upon further complaint they send another engineer who then finds a little more damage but accuses the homeowner of manual manipulation. The uncooperative adjuster refused to come back when asked to look at the damage along with our contractor.

These practices exercised by Auto Owners Insurance arent limited to Indianapolis. My dad always owned the car that I drove and would not put the insurance in my name. Just a dad thing I guess, having no idea it would come back to haunt me one day. When I moved to the big city in 1998 and the insurance we had always had was no longer going to write in Nebraska, I could not get many insurance companies to look at me, due to the fact it was a first time for me to have insurance in my name. When I found I needed insurance at the age of 43, a lot of insurance companies would not even think of insuring me. Instead it would have to be in my mom's name who was going to give up her driver's license due to age. State Farm was the only one at the time who would take me on. I know Auto-Owner's would never have a qualm about anything like that as long as you have a credit score.

I switched to Auto Owners from State Farm in May 2008. I went with auto-deduct from the credit card on file, so I never have to worry about missing a payment every three months and I always get a notice that it is due, and what the amount will be that goes on the credit card, and then afterwards, I get an email with my receipt showing that it was paid. So nothing to worry about except enjoying my ride and peace of mind that my apartment, belongings and any guests are protected by the renter's insurance. I have never regretted my decision to switch with this company and they are the only insurance company to not charge you for not paying in full. You can take insurance for 6 months or a year.

If you pay the premium in full you receive a discount. Most insurance companies charge $5.00 to $10.00 per month or quarter to pay other than pay in full. If you sign up for paperless communication you receive $5.00 off your premium each time, and if you pay online you receive another $5.00 off your premium. Which I believe goes way beyond great customer service. In fact, I liked the company so much I stayed with the company this year after trading off an old Ford Escape for a 2013 Mazda and decided to go with a different agent. Sam was able to save me a ton of money by upgrading and giving me a year policy instead of 6 months. He also rewrote my renter's insurance for a much better deal.

If I ever had a claim, I have no doubt that it will be handled with kid glove treatment and the claim will go smoothly with no glitches or problems getting taken care of. Also, I was told that if I ever have a problem I can take my vehicle to any repair center that I want, so that means I can have it taken to the Ford Mazda dealership where I bought it and where I know everyone. Overall, I could not even imagine switching to a different insurance company for all my insurance needs. I have never had a claim and hope by the time I give up driving in my old age, that I can say the same thing. I would not hesitate to recommend Auto-Owners as an insurance agency for all your needs, whether just starting out needing insurance, adding a family member, relocating to a new state, or adding more property to your list.

Computer troubleshooting indicates our computer is properly configured, but the Auto Owners site is simply not responding. Worst insurance company ever. We had it for 2 weeks, after being insured by another insurance company for over 4 years, and it was revoked due to 'the risk being unacceptable for coverage'. I looked into new home and auto insurance after the cost for auto insurance increased substantially after our daughter started driving. I was pleased with the quote from Auto Owners and we cancelled our old insurance after we accepted the quote from Auto Owners. Two weeks later, we received a cancellation notice due to a delinquent payment. I immediately called our insurance agent. We had paid the quoted premium. Our agent informed me that it was not due to a delinquent payment, as stated in the correspondence. He said that it was being cancelled due to an exterior inspection. I was shocked. The claims made in the 'inspection' were ridiculous.

We were advised to make the suggested alterations in order to obtain the insurance. In the meantime, our mortgage company would put their own, much more expensive insurance in place. We hammered the ONE lifted nail in the roof, sprayed a small amount of algae off some siding, and rebuilt the deck railing that we had intentionally removed because I wanted a better view. We were still denied coverage and have been rejected by other insurance companies because of the 'revocation'. We have NEVER had such a HORRIBLE experience. We have owned several homes in the past, all of which were worse off than our current home, and have not ever had these issues. I would HIGHLY recommend staying far away from this company.

I contacted the insurance main office, and a report was taken, and I was to be contacted by their local adjuster to schedule an appointment to assess the damage.

After a week of not hearing from anyone, I contacted the Auto Owners Insurance company again only to get a runaround. Been told that they had no record of my claim. It took another call to the Auto Owners Insurance and this time I was transferred to the local agent who apologized for not contacting me. He stated that he must have taken down my telephone number wrong.

The adjuster did finally make it to the crime scene only to walk around pretending that he was holding a weed whacker telling me that he did NOT see how it may have possibly thrown anything out because there is a guard on the gas-powered whacker. Never mind the fact that I've shown him pictures taken immediately after the incident.

The Auto Owners Insurance agent did NOT even have a business card, and he left telling me that he will have to "check" with his boss and the insured so that they can debate whether the rock chips on the side of my car and my windshield happened as a result of their insured negligence. The best part of the entire horrible experience was when the Auto Owners Insurance agent advised me that unless I had a video showing the rocks flying they will likely deny this claim. My car was backed into by accident, the grill was broken and the hood was creased along the front seam. The woman that hit me was honest and admitted that she was at fault, she gave me her insurance information and I contacted Auto-Owners Insurance in Stuart Fl. I brought it to two different body shops to get estimates. Auto-Owners Insurance sent an appraiser to my house to do their estimate. They sent Metro Appraisal to look at the car. The appraiser from Metro Appraisal was very rude and wrote an estimate to Bondo the front of my car, (all of the other shops insisted that I needed a new hood because of where the dent was would always be noticed.) And insisted that if I wanted anything else done to my car that I would have to take the claim to my insurance company. Their estimate was half of what it would take to fix the car.

I felt intimidated by the entire process so I called the Florida Insurance Commission. I was told that I didn't have to go through my insurance company and could file for mediation with them. All I wanted was the damage to be covered the first time in full. Their newest estimate concedes that the hood needs to be replaced. They are willing to put a "used" hood on my BMW. I should be thanking them for doing what they should be doing... they only increased the estimate by $200 which includes buying a new/"used" hood... painting the inside and outside and mounting... I don't think so. I have been going back and forth with Auto Owners Insurance to get them to fix my car for months now. It's like pulling teeth with this company, even after they know that I contacted the Insurance Commission they drag their feet. I would never buy insurance from this company. I would avoid this company like the plague.

Auto Owners is average - nothing special. They have been prompt in paying claims but I have been frustrated with them. I had a vehicle hit and totalled by an uninsured driver. I called and asked if I made the claim would it count against me. I was told that it would NOT because it wasn't my fault. But months later after they were unable to collect any money from him, they raised my rates and will stay that way for 3 years.

I have been with them for about a year and, thank goodness, I have not had to use them. Their pricing is very good and I can pay with a credit card. Also have access to all I need online. Contact is easy if needed.

Terrific experience with claims. When a tree fell on my car at a resort, my agent called for an estimate in the city where it occurred, gave me permission to drive it home safely and was there the day I arrived home to provide his estimate. Payment came within a week.

Auto Owners Insurance is very affordable. I love that you have the option to pay your premiums every six months instead of monthly. They are very helpful with claims and work hard to get your check to you so you can get your vehicle fixed. They are VERY reliable.

I have bundled my homeowners insurance with my auto insurance and realized significant savings. I have multi-car discounts, education discounts, safe driver discounts, etc. My Auto insurance savings more than made up for increases in my homeowners insurance. Local agencies means personalized service.

We've been with them for over thirty years. They have been on top of everything that we have experienced when filing claims and adjusting our policy. They cover our private vehicles as well as our business vehicles and equipment. We are so pleased with their service that we also have our business insurance and home insurance with them.

They are fine enough. Just a bit pricey. But I have had no problems with them. I have looked at other companies, and they are a lot more, so I would probably stay with Auto Owners.

Treats me as a valued client, but doesn't advertise it and is there when I need them. No bragging, no hidden fees. Got stuck in the snow in an unfamiliar area, called them on the cellphone, and they called a tow truck to pull me out.

Auto Owners has one of the cheapest policies that I have found. When I filed an accident claim, they were fast and very helpful getting my vehicle repaired. Also they did not raise my rates.

They are the cheapest rate I could get for my area. The only problem I have had with them is with their automatic payments. I had accidentally missed a payment so they doubled what they were going to withdraw the next time. I paid it off in full before they withdrew it but still tried to take it out. The following month they tried to double the original double amount and I was furious. In the end they ended up fixing it and I paid enough to be able to skip a months payment.

I have never had to file a claim so not familiar with that aspect. But our agent has always been prompt to return calls, very knowledgeable and helpful. When we purchased a new vehicle on spur of the moment he was right there to help us. He has been our agent for years, we couldn't ask for better service. I would not change even if we found a less expensive insurance.

I like my insurance company very much. I do not feel like just a number or payment but like someone they actually care about. My insurance company helps me to reduce my monthly cost by offering discounts for all different things. I never feel like I am bothering them when I call with a question about my policy. When I was in an accident a few years ago they were they with me every step of the way, even coming to my work to look at my vehicle and sign some papers. Even though I was not at fault I really thought that my insurance would go up, but it never did. I am very satisfied with my insurance.
