Have been having problem with the a/c for the last 6 months. Repeated service calls and no one fixes it. Finally one a/c expert tells me the unit is shut, needs to be replaced. It has been 100 degrees here and we have an elderly person in the home. They tell me they need one more opinion and they will replace. They send the guy who was there three times, and he states it is not the a/c. Some ridiculous beam is rotten and the a/c is tilted. Meanwhile it has ruined a piece of my ceiling. I know this is not true since I had two professional home inspections done in the last two years, one as recently as June 2015, and I called that inspector. He unequivocally says, this is not the case. I have been on the phone at least 5x, waiting for hours, and can't get thru to talk to anyone, meanwhile, no a/c and this person is suffering. Currently on the phone for over 60 mins, and still no answer.
UPDATED ON 08/10/2015: After repeated calls to fix the a/c. We finally got to the root of the problem with a contractor we called ourselves. But all this time, when the a/c shut off, it was due to the drain valve not working. Because it was backing up, it rotted the platform it was sitting on and leaked onto the ceiling of my 300-year-old house. By the time the problem was identified, the a/c had to be removed to build a new platform. Of course, AHS claims no responsibility. But, how could I see the problem when it is in the attic accessible through a crawl space! Their final vendor said the a/c was shot. Now, I had to make the choice. Put it back on the new platform and repair it by AHS or put in a new A/C, because my vendor was adamant it was done.
Now comes for one of their tricks. They acknowledge the repair that would be needed, but will not take the estimate provided by my vendor who is a certified good vendor. So, they will only allow $425 for the work they claim could have had the unit up and running. FYI, this all happened during the most steamy hot weather in Charleston. The temperature in the house was 100+ for days. So, they would send someone out, he would empty the water that was unable to drain and reset the a/c. Once it started going as soon as the drain filled, it would cut off.

I have been with AHS for over three years and have made 4 total calls so far. Only one of these calls had a satisfactory outcome - related to the fan going out on the inside unit of the HVAC system. The last call has been particularly trying and frustrating for me. My AC started to go out in mid-Jul with intermittent cooling and towards the end it totally died on me. I placed a request on Friday (Jul 25, 2015) and didn't expect to hear from them until next Monday based on their policy of "someone will contact you within 24-48 business hours." So we suffered through the weekend and were hopeful when the contractor actually came by the house before end of Monday. Turns out the outside unit fan motor had gone bad. They tried to swap with an after-market motor which ran for a short time and died. I was told they would need to get an OEM fan motor for the outside unit.
Today it's over three weeks but I cannot get a straight answer from either the contractors (American Air Conditioning) or the AHS about when the part is going to be available. The AHS is ready to defend the contractors with excuses for their incompetencies, and not ready to take remedial measures while our family with small kids are suffering during the peak of Texan summer. I am beyond angry and frustrated. I am paying premium to AHS to stand up for me and ensure proper service from contractors but instead they act like bystanders. I cannot take up the matter with the contractors because AHS is the intermediary. Is this kind of service to expect from AHS or any home warranty company??? What are my options besides the obvious one of dumping AHS??

When we came home from vacation, our pool man said there was a valve that was broken so he had to shut the pool down. We called AHS and Expert Pools called us back on Friday and sent somebody out here on Monday. When the guys from Expert Pool called to tell me they had to get the part and try to be back by 9 this morning, and that didn’t happen, I called them up and the person who answered the phone was a bit confused as to who I was. But after we hung up, within 10 minutes, they were at our back door. It must have been some communication problem there. But other than that, they were fine and fixed the pool. We’ve had Expert Pools out once before and they did a good job.

As a Realtor who purchases home warranties for clients, I am no longer going to recommend this company. I have a policy with these guys and have seen their customer service go downhill. They want to rely 100% on online requests. However, I have come across a very poor vendor that I asked to be removed from my vendor list yet I got assigned to them again. They never called in 24-hours and they lied to AHS saying that they never received the request. AHS customer service said they won't re-assign the vendor and they need to resubmit the repair request. Now my broken appliances will remain broken for another week. Meanwhile, I have Sat on hold trying to talk to them for over two-hours and have gotten nowhere. BAD SERVICE and WASTE OF TIME and MONEY.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Lawrence. We apologize for your recent experience and would like to assist you. Someone from our team will be following up shortly to assist you with a resolution.

I filed an online request for service on Saturday, August 8, to repair my broken A/C. It's my understanding that I will receive an email response from a service provider within 24 hours. It is 11:31 am on Monday, August 10, and I have not received email notification regarding my request. I called the American Home Shield office at 8:00am this morning, was on hold for 20 minutes, then disconnected. I have not been able to reach them by phone. I also contacted them through their website, requesting a phone call, and I have not had any contact from them.
When I check my account status for repair online it says "unavailable." To say I am extremely disappointed would be a gross understatement. I have dealt with several home warranty companies in the past that were awful, but they at least responded to my request for help. I contacted an A/C repair service near my home, and my A/C is now repaired. I will now look forward to trying to get reimbursement for the repair fee less the $75 service fee charge. Wish me luck.

My air conditioner was making a noise so we filed a claim with AHS. It was terrible. The contractor just told me that they don't take care of noises, and that was it. I called AHS and left them a message but I never heard back from them. So I called the contractor again and let them know that the AC was still making the noise, and that I needed to remember that my coverage doesn't cover noises. The contractor went and rattled a few things. The AC made a noise for a few more days and then it stopped. So I haven't done anything else about it. My past experiences with AHS have been better and I'd still recommend them. However, I've had a couple of their contractors tell me that I shouldn't have AHS and go instead with Old Republic since they cover more.

My 85 year old mother has been without AC for 4 days in 105 degree weather. Service dept. did not request expedited/emergency service. Said they had 4-24 hrs. to contact us regarding this. By the way - weekends are not included in the 24 hours. Would not waive the fee for a REAL 24/7 service to come out. Talked to service 6 separate times. Emergency service is for NON-CONTRACT only customers on weekends. What are we paying for? Had to request a Manager who also has another 4-24 hrs. to return call (no weekends). I am furious. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! Did you notice how hard it is to get to the reviews?

I've had AHS for about 15 years and my brother has them too since I suggested he get it. However, he said the earliest he could get an answer was 20 minutes on the telephone which is terrible customer service. They advertise it on television and they're getting a lot more business and they don't have the personnel to handle it. I would give them a perfect rating but with the stipulation that they're going to do something to handle extra business. Moreover, the deductible is going up to $75 and it was $45 when I started with them. That is a little high and I used to pay somewhere around $500 for my premium, but it's now almost $700 a year which is also high.
In fact, my brother just switched to another warranty company because of the pricing with American Home Shield. I've read some terrible write-ups about the other company and I've never had a problem like that with American Home Shield. Service-wise, other than one instance I had years ago, the last dude that I had was great.

Despite having honest and straightforward contractors, I'm not satisfied at all with the service I've been getting from American Home Shield. Submitting a claim online is relatively easy, but by telephone, it takes too much time. And I'm definitely not satisfied with the increased pay for the last year. My current contract is due to expire in December and I have every intention to switch to another home service warranty company which charges $60 to $75. I've been with American Home Shield for years as has my mother and my son, but I'm just totally dissatisfied at this point.

I find American Home Shield’s website a little challenging when submitting a claim, but the process isn’t too bad on the phone, just a long wait. I think they’re trying to force everybody to the website. The contractors they send have all been very pleasant, but it takes anywhere from 2 days to a week to get somebody to call. It may be due to the season and the amount of work being done, but I assume they’re low bidders, so they simply don’t have the staff to come right away. Overall, AHS gives good service over the years. It’s just that at times, their contractors are swamped and slow to respond.

There is not really a resolution to the issue, but the company replied and I responded. It is the best warranty company out there as far as coverage. Not everything will be covered, so don't expect that, but it covers stuff and helps you not to worry when times are tough. Its way better than another company I tried, but like I said, you get what you pay for. This is an insurance plan and I have to tell you, some of the things in my house, have been completely replaced because of AHS.
However, these companies started to restrict what they covered or the parts they covered. One company, for example, only covered ONE part on a Hot Water Heater. Everything else was not covered, but they list it in their brochure. You have to read the fine print on these things and understand not everything will be covered or fixed immediately. You may have to wait for a part. But with AHS, they covered more than most..so check your books when you get them and know what you are paying for.

I placed a complaint with AHS and cancelled my contract after 11 years, actually. I loved that company, having a single parent limited income, they helped me sooo much when my kids were growing up. It just so happened that around 2010 or so, they changed. I do not know why but less things got fixed. There were less repairmen available and sometimes they were poor or didn't fix anything as it wasn't a covered repair. I was so disappointed in them... BUT TO BE FAIR they did try to contact me about this and I never got the message or saw the note on here. So I cannot say they didn't try to speak with me and they were at their worst a much better company than another company I tried for a short time and let go after a LITTLE OVER A YEAR. Choice... horrible. Stick with American Home Shield and try to work it out. You get what you pay for.

We have been member for several years. Have always gotten things fixed somewhat easily - always minor repairs. Our master bath jacuzzi tub motor stopped working and I called for repair. AHS sent their contractor, Arsenal Plumbing. Arsenal came and removed the motor, saying it had blown and that they would be back the following week with a repaired motor.
In the meantime I slipped three discs in my low back and had to get an epidural - making it hard to stand in the shower. Was not able to use bath tub because the motor had been removed and we were told not to turn on water. I called Arsenal 2 times per week for 3 weeks straight. They kept saying they would call me back. NEVER called back.
Tried AHS several times and after being on hold for 40+ minutes each time, after I finally got a person, s/he would say that Arsenal hasn't updated the status of the repair and that someone would call me back from AHS within 24 hours. NEVER got a call back from AHS. My husband called AHS, got a hold of a person after being on hold for over 40 minutes and was told the repair was approved and that Arsenal would be in touch to complete the project. Never heard from Arsenal. Called 3 times and asked for a manager to call me.
Finally got a hold of Arsenal - they told me AHS only approved the motor repair but not the "motherboard" repair (the two apparently go hand-in-hand) and that I needed to pay $1,100 to complete the repair. This is completely unacceptable and we have been without our bathtub for a month. Not one person from AHS ever followed through with the promise to get back to us and not one person from AHS informed us of this $1,100 co-pay. We are NOT renewing our contract with AHS and I highly suggest you look elsewhere.

The contractors that AHS sent out are mediocre. When you encounter a problem, it takes three weeks before somebody can get out of here to work on it. Then they claim that they fixed the problem -- it'll work for a while and then it would stop working. They keep coming back for the same problem. The online claim submission has been really easy to use, but trying to get the service complete has been a nightmare.

They sent out a plumber who measured a "too high" 60 psi water pressure and hence denied an obvious water line repair. Of course, normal is 60-70 psi. They demanded pay for 2 (two) visits where nothing was done and, for 6 months, denied me service, because I did not pay the "service call". My demand for refunding the premium was denied. That, my friends, is fraudulent practice. What I keep hearing and also experience myself with a different house is, that after a 2 years, SUDDENLY, EVERYTHING IN YOUR HOUSE IS "OUT OF CODE". The above experience confirms that. Try to cancel AHS - first of all, your cell phone runs out of battery power - do it from your home phone. And second of all, they direct you to the wrong department a number of times. Don't give up, but be prepared for hours and hours on the phone.

I've had several home warranties with American Home Shield and for the most part, they all have gone smoothly except for the last one that I placed in which case I was a little bit disturbed about how it was handled. I also got the impression that the scope of work was something that they didn't want to take on. It wasn't a simple job. It was something that required a little bit of more difficulty and most plumbers don't like working on the houses. They had the ability to arbitrarily make a decision that will affect whether or not the work would get done and there was a reason why the claim was denied.

In my most recent claim with American Home Shield, a part that AHS had installed for the previous renter rusted and needed to be replaced. Before the vendor came out I told AHS that I don't think I should have to pay again for a part that was initially not installed correctly. They said not to worry about paying the deductible that when they get the claim they'll review it and decide whether or not to waive the service fee based on the circumstance.
This past Monday, the vendor came out and when the tech requested the money, I explained the situation. Instead of calling AHS, he called the owner who ripped the part back out and left. They never followed up with AHS. They were cursing on the phone so I told the tech to have a call conference with AHS so we'll get this squared away. But he didn't listen and called the owner who was cursing and said, "Take the part back." The guy came out and ripped the part out, pushed back in the old part and kept saying it wasn't his fault. I said “No, it is your fault because you didn’t tell the owner the whole story. You just said I didn’t want to pay, which wasn’t the truth.”
I have contacted AHS about this. They said they were going to follow up with the vendor. At first, they didn't want to do anything about it. They just said they would send somebody and I kept pushing back. I said to them, "How could you let someone represent your company and not even get on the phone and speak to the customer, and then start cursing?" So unprofessional. I've never had that experience in my whole life. So to make a long story short, I ended up ordering online the part myself, which defeats the purpose of having that home warranty to begin with.
I have to follow-up with AHS constantly, if I do put a claim in. They seem to have a bit of a relaxed stance in terms of their giving the vendor one day to call us to schedule a time for service. There have been instances recently where I've had the air conditioning unit break. The same vendor had to come out three times to fix it and I had to constantly chase the vendor to come back out and fix things. As it stands today, I'm going to look for someone else to help me cover my appliances.
We appreciate the opportunity to address your situation, Sonal. We would like to resolve your situation with us. We have notified our customer service team and someone will contact you within 2 business days.

Our Kenmore dishwasher wasn't working correctly so I talked to someone over at AHS and a Kenmore rep came out the next day. We liked him, he was really sweet. He even gave us some new tips on how to get my dishes cleaner, like changing the type of dish-washing soap and using those little packets instead of liquid. He also said that if we put a cup of vinegar in with the cups and glasses, it will get rid of the hard water stains. There was no way to fix the dishwasher though. One side has broken in an attachment where silverware are put. Kenmore doesn't make that part anymore but AHS would have replaced it had they made the part. It wasn't AHS' fault so we're good. But when I do my dishwasher, I had practically washed my dishes before I even put them in and they're pretty clean already. The truth is the dishwasher is just there to sterilize the dishes more or less.
My last claim for the dishwasher was within the 60-day grace period so I didn’t have to pay for the contractors to come back out. But usually, it breaks down within two to two and a half months after they fix it. And sometimes, I can’t call them out right away again because I don’t have the money to pay for the service call. I called AHS, they got me another contractor out to do the repair and we got it all taken care of so it wasn't a problem. AHS is a good insurance to have especially if you buy a home. I had an awesome experience with them!

I've had American Home Shield since their inception. As a matter of fact, in the past couple of months, they replaced the dishwasher for me. It took me about two months to locate a dishwasher that would fit inside of where it was to go, but I'm more than pleased and I'm glad I went through all that because it's a Bosch dishwasher. I wouldn't buy anything but a Bosch. AHS has always been courteous to me. They were very accommodating in waiting because I said I'm having trouble finding a dishwasher that can fit inside that space and they said, "Don't worry about it. Take your time."
They've always worked with me. When it started out in the dishwasher, the guy was having trouble diagnosing it, he came out a couple of times so they sent someone for a second opinion. They didn't tell me they were going to do that but I wound up getting a new dishwasher. I also did have another incident years ago. The first refrigerator we got was a lemon but they took care of it and replaced our refrigerator freezer as well. I was very grateful for it.

American Home Shield was very easy to work with, professional and gets the job done. When we had a problem with our pool pump, I submitted a claim with them online. The contractor they sent was great. He called right away and was able to fix the problem within a week. Since then, the performance of the pool pump has been fabulous. Just last week, the ceiling fan in our living room isn't working so I submitted another claim to them online. It was very simple and easy. They have scheduled someone to come out. The contractor already contacted me and we talked about it. He's researching some information and is going to get back to me.

I am a long-time customer of AHS and my overall experience with them has been positive. They've been responsive, and so far, I don't have any problems with them. In fact, I did recommend them to friends. I've had some issues but it's mostly been about the nature of the machines that are being serviced. Also, the only negative I have with AHS is that it takes more time because of the process that you have to go through. For instance, if my air conditioning unit is out, it takes more time than if I just called my regular vendor and had them run in and take care of it. But by the same token, I like the insurance aspect of it.

They did not come today and now the soonest appt they have is on Monday! That's 4 1/2 days with no AC with 105 degree plus weather outside and I have a toddler at home! I tried calling American Home Shield to see if we could change vendors or get an emergency appointment scheduled. They said because I canceled the appointment with the vendor (WHAT APPOINTMENT??) and I did not make myself available, it's my fault. Due to POLICY they will not change vendors for me. Rep would not even discuss looking at other vendors to take care of the problem. When I asked for her supervisor or someone at AHS who could authorize or offer a better solution, she said no one else could do that. I contacted the warranty department by phone Friday eve about 10pm as my a/c unit had quit working. I received an immediate email with the contractor's name and then a follow up recorded call the next morning at 8:02am stating the contractor would be calling me with an appt time soon. By 9:30am I had not heard from the contractor. It is August in Phoenix AZ where it was going to be over 100 degrees that day.
I tried to call the contractor and received a voice mail. I then called AHS and expressed my need to have someone out today due to the extreme heat. I was told by the computer it was only 90 degrees where I was located and that the contractor had 24 hours to contact me to set up an appt and 48 hours to come to me home. I requested due to extreme weather conditions in Arizona in summer this be expedited. I was told that could not be done unless it was 105 outside. I did receive a call from contractor at 11:30 stating they can be to my home between 7 and 9am Sunday.
They did not show up till after 9am and they did not bring their work truck. He could not fix the problem as he did not have his torch or antifreeze. He had to return the next day after his truck was fixed. Sometime in afternoon I called AHS and asked for another contractor as I had been without air for over 24 hours. I was told then new contractor would be allowed the 24 hours response time etc. I asked for a supervisor/manager to call me first thing in am. No call from supervisor. No call confirming return time Monday from a/c guy.
Called them again to say, "Hey, I need some customer service. What do I pay you all for?" Same response. He says “He will be out to fix your unit this afternoon but no time.” Let me tell you, my home was over 100 degrees for 2 days and Monday there was a heat warning out for the valley. I did finally get my a/c fixed $700 later about 3:15pm on Monday. If you recall I reported it 10pm Friday. I requested twice to have a supervisor/manager contact me and still have not had the pleasure of speaking to anyone about my concerns/experience.
Needless to say my contract expires tomorrow with them and I really do not see a reason to continue paying them for crappy customer service! A/C should be a ER fix in Arizona in the summer months and not the 24/48 hours as currently reported to me by customer service. It would be nice if they refunded my deductible of $100 for my inconvenience and all the fees paid for hotel for 2 nights.

AHS came with our house purchase. They were good on claims and I've had good interactions with their technicians. However they have not addressed our air conditioner problems. What they have done is piece together an air conditioner that hasn't been doing the job. They should say that the air conditioning unit is well beyond its functional use, but I think AHS' goal is never to have to replace anything but to fix anything that they've got-- whether they fix it well or not. We finally gave up and bought a brand-new air conditioner and things are much better. From my standpoint however, it would have benefited AHS had they help me buy a new air conditioning unit as there will not be any claims against it for 10 years due to the extra warranty. Still, I would recommend them to a friend for low level services.

I got the seller's AHS plan when I bought this house and also have them on my rental property. It's been great on my rental property and has helped me out tremendously because I got a wide-range plan that's fit for a rental property because I never know what was going to go wrong. One of the things that I had called and asked for the rental property was that the ceiling fan is kind of loose from the ceiling. It's crooked and needs to be tightened up. Also, the tenant had said one of the electrical outlets in the master bath was not working.
They said both were covered. But when I went to make a premise visit to check on the property, the contractor never fixed the fan. He didn't call to explain why he didn't fix it. So I let months go by without hearing anything from the tenant, assuming everything's okay. But as I went in May, I saw that the ceiling fan was still hanging a little crooked. But other than that, I've been very satisfied. I've had the service for three years and I know they're going to tell me the truth and if they can fix it, they'll do it to save money or help me.

I called American Home Shield during the first week of July because my 20-year old air conditioning unit was becoming less and less effective. They assigned a company called A-US Air Conditioning of Texas which eventually came to my home four different times: the first two times attempting to repair the 20-year old unit, a third time to replace it (and taking four hours to make the replacement unit operational), and a fourth time when the technician cleared out a condensation line and told me that otherwise the unit was operating properly despite the fact that daytime temperatures inside my house never dropped out of the low to mid 80s. I have spent hours on the phone on hold, paid something in the neighborhood of $800 for freon to charge both the old dying unit and the new one, and lost several hundred dollars in billable income because I had to stay home from a freelance assignment to meet with a/c technicians.
When I failed to hear back from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas in response to my complaints that they had yet to solve my problem, I called American Home Shield again, insisting that they assign my service request to a competent company. Finally, about 10 days later, that technician arrived, did a thorough examination of the problem, and turned in a report that called on American Home Shield to send a plumber to fix the ongoing condensation blockage and to reconsider the adequacy of the unit they had installed.
He told me they questioned his diagnosis, called for a "second opinion," and were ordering a third company to come out and do their own assessment. It appears to me that this company's only response to such problems has been to throw incompetent people at it so I will continue to pay for their "protection" until a knowledgeable technician points out real problems that need to be repaired, when they stonewall that assessment and find a way to avoid responsibility.

I called in and spoke to another representative who assigned it to a new vendor, again a vendor who does not service Sub Zero. The third time I called, each time I wait on line for a very lone time, they assigned it properly. He came out, said he had to order parts, and they would call when the parts arrived. No call.
This morning I called for status and they told me AHS told them to cancel out the claim and that they would call me. They told me this happened the day they came out when they called for parts authorization. That was 10 days ago. I asked them what the problem was and they told me they are not allowed to tell me this. I have now been on hold with AHS for 55 minutes waiting to find out why my claim has been cancelled and why no one from AHS called me to discuss with me earlier. This is not professional. I call AHS and they book another repair man, I wait a week, no call from him. I call AHS, and they call the repair man to tell him to call me. Well I ended up getting his number and calling him to schedule my appointment. He shows up and tells me the reason they both broke for the 2nd time was because the first repair man replaced the broken parts with USED parts! So I spent another $100.00 deductible for the 2nd repair man to tell me they first repaired both the washer and dryer with used parts!
The second repair man told me he would need to order new parts and he would call me in a week. He never called me. I called AHS and they told me he called in to verify he could order the parts, the phone got disconnected and he didn't call back. I asked why they didn't call him back, and the associate did not have an answer for me! At this point I am livid!
We scheduled an appointment on 3-way (because I could not get in touch with him) and he did a no-show. I took off work and sat there for nothing! I called and we got him scheduled again and he finally came and fixed the washer and dryer. Here is the kicker, AHS has not yet refunded me for the first deductible I paid to the guy that used old parts. I have called 4 times now and I have had the same thing told to me, "The person that took the concession, must review the file." No one can give me an answer on when my money will be refunded to me. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE MAY, it's now AUGUST! I'm on hold as I type this. Not to mention, every time I call I'm on hold for at least 30 minutes before I can speak with anyone. They finally authorized a friend of ours to come out and then fought to not pay even when I had the email authorizing the bill. I wanted another company and my husband talked me into staying with American Home Shield.
Now, four and a half years later we need the hot water heater elements replaced and the repairman says "We will be there at 2pm..." Never showed and would not answer the phone when we called. I can not wait to not have any ties with this company. My dryer was suppose to get fixed, nothing was done so I had to go buy a new dryer from a company in my city. When they are supposedly they're a "Home Warranty company" all they do is take your money and still expect you to pay a deductible.

My husband and I are senior citizens and loyal customers to American Home Shield for about 20 years. The past few years we have had repeated service calls for our heat pump / air conditioning unit. For the most recent service call, AHS assigned Comfort First H & A. They have been wonderful to deal with. Both employees who came to my home were very professional. Problems arose when Comfort First H&A reported to American Home Shield that our unit needed to be replaced. We have always been very happy with AHS, and have even recommended them to our friends. But it seems things have changed over the past few years. I recently had my stove replaced and was told they could not match my color, stainless steel. Since when is stainless steel a color?
I received an email from AHS that our unit was going to be replaced and that I should hear from the contractor within 3 days. Monday was day 3, so I called them. To my dismay, I was told that I have to pay $5,295.00 out of pocket for things that AHS won't cover. I called this morning, with very long wait times and the issue is not resolved. I requested to speak to a manager and was told they do not have "managers on demand," that she would have to issue a request for a manager to call me. So I agreed. I was told to expect a call within 3-4 hours. It has been 2 hours, no call yet. The second problem is I was told the unit they are sending to the contractor is a 13 SEER, which was "phased out" last year. The unit requires R22 freon, which within a few years, will no longer be available.
So why am I getting substandard equipment, that after the year 2020, cannot be serviced for Freon issues. I would have to replace the unit again. That's only 4 years and 5 months away. The first customer service person that I spoke with this morning told me I should have read my contract. Why? I renew over the phone as I always have. If my coverage changed shouldn't you tell me before processing my credit card? I'm on week 2 now with no air conditioning. There is no way we can afford what they are asking us to pay out of pocket, nor should we have to. That is why we have insurance. So what am I suppose to do? Is this how you treat loyal customers? Why am I expected to cover the cost of the air handler when that is one of the places the freon is leaking?
To make it worse, the contractor told me had I just gone through them, it would cost approx. $6,000.00 to replace my unit with a 14 SEER unit that does not use R22 freon. So if I am only saving $705.00 by having the insurance, why have it? I am still hoping for a very happy outcome. But, it is looking like they just don't care about us. I will update this post as soon as I speak with the manager and reach some kind of reasonable resolution.
Thanks you for bringing this to our attention Carolyn. We apologize for your experience and would like to assist you. Someone from our team will be following up shortly to assist you with a resolution.

I have emailed now three times and spent hours talking to different reps with AHS to help aid me with a resolution. I have requested a manager to call me three times with no contact. I have spent 75 for a service fee and 400 on a home warranty. AHS is now telling me a part is on our order but GE is stating that part is unavailable and we are better off with a new product (the expert in which AHS advised us to use.) For the amount of money we have spent on services and home warranty and the countless amount of time I have spent trying to come to a resolution.. we could have purchased a dishwasher.

AHS is probably the best investment I've done in quite some time. I've had AC and refrigerator problems and they've taken care of everything with their great vendors. The last issue that they took care of was with the dishwasher since it wouldn't start. I went online, submitted a claim and I was automatically assigned a vendor who called me the following day and scheduled an appointment. He walked us through what he was doing and what he found and he actually had the parts in stock so he fixed it. I would recommend them to anybody that owns a home.

I've not seen a less functional organization. Had them for almost 2 years. First time I tried to use them was 30 days ago. In the middle of Summer my AC unit failed. They offered me dates more than a week away. Four calls later (all with exorbitant hold times) they routed me to a different firm. They actually never contacted me. I gave up, paid full price to have somebody come out and fix the AC unit the next day. I canceled my account, the very next day. Since then they billed me for yet another month and attempted to bill me a $120.00 co-pay for the service on my AC unit that never happened. They never even called me. Three more calls and I still don't have confirmation. They removed it from my bill. Now I have somebody telling me that I never canceled my account... This is either unfathomable incompetence or pure fraud... The wait times to get a hold of these folks is sometimes more than 30 minutes.

We submitted our request for a service. The air conditioning company contacted us to schedule a service. Upon inspection they told us the compressor needed to be replaced at a cost of $270 and that they could only do this once American Home Shield had sent them the part. Over a week later (in the heat of summer) the part finally arrived at the contractor's office, where I had to call and ask them where it was. They then came to install the compressor only to notice the next day that the air conditioning was still not working and our house was in the high 90s to 100 degrees! They then sent a different repair guy from the same company over who inspected and said that the coil was also broken and was leaking. They would need to order a new part or repair if possible. A new part would take 7 to 10 working days. They came another day to "repair" the coil to attempt to fix the problem but it did not.
They then recommended a new air conditioner unit all together. Bearing in mind that my calls to the contractor and American Home Shield were either ignored or not responded to. I called back and forth only to then get another new company come over to inspect. He told us that the compressor wasn't the right part anyways and we could try replace the coil, but in his expert opinion we should replace the whole unit. This has now been nearly 4 weeks of no air conditioner. He gave us a quote which was extremely high and said that American Home Shield would pay a small part towards the expense.
I decided to shop around and got 3 other quotes from different companies only to find that I could get nearly $2000 less with a better brand name. I then called American Home Shield and told them I was dissatisfied with the price quoted and the lady said I could do a cash out option and pay for it myself and they would get a report from their last contractor and pay me a small amount towards my cost. Well, do you think I could get the contractors to send their report back to American Home Shield? Despite my calling them myself and texting the repairman, as well as calling American Home Shield 3 times with 45 minute wait times minimum, I have had NO response. They keep telling me they will sort it out but am awaiting any response. I am shocked with this service and am utterly disappointed that nobody is willing to help us out.

On July 28, 2015 I realized AC was not working. On July 29, 2015 I used the online service request and scheduled an appointment to have it serviced on July 30, 2015 between 2-4 pm with Guaranteed Services out of Anderson, SC. At 4:20ish, they wasn't there nor did they call to say "hey we are running late." My friend was waiting at my house and had left work to wait for Guaranteed Services to help me out.
I called Guaranteed Services to see what was going on and why wasn't they there yet. The lady put me on hold and then got back in the phone. She said the tech ran into a problem at his current job and it would be at least an hour to an hour and a half longer, if I had something to do I could go do it. I said "really you could have called and let me know sooner." I know things happen but it would have been nice if they called to let us know. I said but that is okay because I get to rate their service through American Home Shield. She was talking over me and said "this is a service industry." I again said "I know things happen but they could have called and told me but I will handle it on the survey." She said "I will just close your request" and they wasn't coming.
I called American Home Shield back and spoke to Donald. He set up another appointment with another company Airone Heating and Air and gave me their phone number. I waited for Air one to call and set up an appointment. I didn't get a call, so I called and left a message at about 8:20 pm July 30, 2015. I didn't hear anything from them so after 24 hours, I called AHS back and spoke to Tineeka. She call both of Airone's phone numbers and emailed without response. She said Airone had until Monday August 3, to come look at my AC unit. I waited until Monday and didn't hear from Airone, so I called Airone twice. On the second call they actually picked up the phone, only to tell me "we are not coming to look at your AC because we don't service that area."
AHS set up another appointment with Guaranteed Services. I called AHS and spoke with Jasmine. She said they are sending Guaranteed Services but they had to call and set up another appointment. I asked if they were coming today, Monday August 3, 2015. She said the required time to respond starts over every time they set up a new appointment. I asked for a supervisor but was told there wasn't any available so she would send a request form and have a supervisor call me back. I asked how long the wait time was for a supervisor was and was told up to 24 hours. Here it is almost a week with a broken AC unit in high 90 weather and no end in sight. Guaranteed Service has not called to schedule an appointment. I pay AHS monthly and I am getting the runaround.

Representatives of AHS are very polite. And I always have a choice with AHS because when they send someone out who I think are not reputable, I can tell AHS not to send them anymore. My recent claim was with my air condition and they sent out a tech here and it's excellent. He was supposed to come on a Wednesday but he had a break on his schedule and came on a Tuesday instead. And I was glad he did.
Overall, I've had a good experience with them but we had a mix-up one time with payment. Somebody had forged a ticket from the airlines on me and I had to deal with the bank about that and I was very upset about it so I didn't want anything else going through my account. I told the lady, "Look, I'm gonna do a payment on the phone." She said "Well, I'm gonna go ahead and take this payment now but next time you can go ahead and run your own payment through there." But it was some mishap and that set me off because I didn't like that at all. But since that time, I don't have any problems with them and I would recommend them. I have a daughter who is intending on buying a house and we had already been talking about the insurance on the house and I had recommended American Home Shield. So whenever she gets ready to get her house, she'll go with American Home Shield, too.

I have had American Home Shield for the last 18 years on my home, have really needed them a few times relating to HVAC failure and we received adequate service to restore our AC. However the last few years have been less than satisfactory and I raised my last service request for AC support to their service department stating the AC repair company they used did a horrible job fixing my AC. They stated that I needed to take it up with them and after many attempts to do so, never received satisfactory support aside from a brief conversation with the owner who stated that AHS doesn't pay them to do proper restoration, only to do a quick fix and move on.
That response didn't sit well with me and has been a major bone of contention in my relationship with AHS for the last year in particular. We called them to fix another plumbing issue which they said wasn't covered because it wasn't part of my home - it was the line between the home and the main water valve so in their opinion, it was out of scope. That caused me to question why even have the service if (1) their repairs are selective and (2) the repairs made are "on-the-cheap" and not "do it right the first time" quality repairs. Someone told me recently that I need to start saving my money and do my own maintenance. Frankly, if I look at how much I've spent over the last 18 years (about $15,000) the few repairs I did get done would have been easily covered within that with money to spare. I guess it's a hard lesson to learn.
That said, I've been trying to get in touch with AHS for the last 6 weeks to cancel my home warranty because we have moved now 3 weeks ago and every time I call, I get put on hold indefinitely and I just don't have the luxury to sit on the phone listening to crappy music for hours. I'm on the phone with them now for the 5th time and it's been 33 minutes so far. This is one of the worst customer service companies I've ever had to work with!!!

The technician was fine but I had a problem with ACE. The company was supposed to come yesterday and they called near the end of the day and said that their techs are too busy so they're coming in today. They showed up within that window of time, took a look and said that I had a bad part so I asked him how long would it take to repair it. He said that it will take about 7 to 10 days before the part comes in and at this point they would then make an appointment to come and replace it. He was upfront and said there would also be some additional charges which I was unaware of, but I was happy that he brought it up. When I added it up including the $75 deductible, we're looking anywhere for an additional $352, almost $500 that I was not expecting to hear about.
Experiencing that, along with an incident several years ago with the same company, not the technician, but the company in which we didn't like the service, we specifically asked American Home Shield to put it in their notes that any time we have an issue, not to have this company come out and do the work. I had to start from scratch and needed to call back AHS and tried to get them to assign the work to another company. They did assign it to another company who is coming out tomorrow to assess what the other company today has already assessed. I'll get charged another $75 for the deductible for this other company coming out and who knows what other charges I'll be getting for all this.
It's frustrating plus it's summer so it's hot. It has to do with the air conditioning and I have two young kids and it's uncomfortable. Hearing the part is gonna take 7 to 10 days to get there, we’re looking at sometime next week. It will probably lead to the following week before the situation would be rectified so I was frustrated by it. I want to get the issues all resolved. I called back, saying I would need more service on my dishwasher by the 23rd of June since earlier in the month I had some work done on it and still needed more. They told me that I did not have an account anymore. They were trying to tell me that I requested my service to be done on June 13th. I asked them to go back and listen to that phone call because I did not ever say the 13th. They also told me that they called me on the 13th but they actually didn't. I was pretty upset to have to pay for that service out of my own pocket.
It's been many years that we've been with them, only to be treated that way. Also, the bill was paid every month automatically out of our checking account and if they indeed said that my service was over on the 13th, then I deserve to get half of that money back. Yet they told me that they owed us nothing. I have told so many people about them over the years but I wouldn't recommend them again after this. I immediately called AHS to schedule an appointment, and was put in touch with a contractor that would not provide service until the following Monday. I called AHS to see if there was anything I could do to expedite service, they refused to even try to put me in touch with a different provider. I ended up paying someone myself to fix the AC unit rather than deal with 3+ days of 100-degree weather and no AC.
#2 - A leak appeared under my kitchen sink that created significant water damage to the cabinets and floor. AHS sent out a contractor that charged me $75 service fee just to tell me that it was my reverse osmosis unit, and that AHS would not cover it. They also do not cover any secondary damage from the water, so once again the coverage was completely useless, and I ended up paying extra just for the service call.

I've had two air conditioning service people out in the last month and a half. The first one that came out was extremely nice. He said there was nothing wrong with the unit except that it needed to be cleaned. So he hosed it down which I do all the time but he evidently do a different way than I knew which didn't help at all. When he left, he said "If that didn't work, give me a callback and I'll come back out." So we called his number and left lots of messages and never heard back. So I called American Home Shield back and they sent someone different out who said exactly the same thing. We told him the guy had already been here and cleaned it once and he said, "Well, he didn't clean it right." So they sprayed something in the air conditioner and hosed it down again and left. But they didn't charge us the second time.
Our warranty really doesn't financially help us a lot with servicing anything that goes wrong. Our water heater went out a couple of years ago and it costs us $500 to have it replaced. That was our co-pay so we thought more was included. We didn't realize it would be so much. However I've never been angry with the experience - just frustrated. And I don't feel it's AHS' fault at all. But other than that, they've done a great job. They always get somebody out here right away.

My most recent claim with AHS was for a water heater replacement. Submitting my claim was great. Their rep was quick to get the info out and they helped me schedule a time. Contractor was also pleasant. They brought everything they needed at the time so they were ready to go. It wasn't like a three trip job.

My garage door was not working - the spring was broken. So, I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. Then, they sent someone out and took care of it. The person they sent out was very professional, courteous and good. So, I was happy with my experience with American Home Shield. However, after two weeks or more, I found that the garage door is still not working too well.

My last two claims with American Home Shield was for my dishwasher and garbage disposal. My husband was not home at the time, and I didn’t know how to do that, so it was easy for the technician to fix the problem. For the dishwasher, the water tube wasn’t turned on so he just turned it on and the tech needed to push the reset button for the disposal so the problems were very easy to fix. I was satisfied with them -- they're professional, friendly, and showed me how to resolve the problem. All around, they are very good and I’d recommend them.
