Our A/C quit working. I called AHS and they dispatched MW Services to my house. They diagnosed the problem quickly. The repair process took a long time which is why I gave AHS a 4 star rating. AHS took a day to figure out if they wanted to repair or replace and once they decided to repair they then had to order the part. Other than that, I'm happy with everything overall.

The air conditioning units in my condominium are not operating correctly. AHS dispatched A US Air to inspect the units. Two of the units are chillers that operate off the building air conditioning system and A US Air was unable to repair. An additional auxiliary air conditioner (independent of the building air) requires service. A US Air did not have the equipment to charge the coolant. I contacted AHS and learned that the chillers are not covered under my warranty, but they would contract another company, Airwise, to service the auxiliary unit today, August 12.

I contacted Airwise @ (817) 444-0090 and spoke with Kathy, who told me that AHS cancelled the appointment because chillers are not a covered item. The appointment was made to service the auxiliary air conditioner, not the chiller. I am currently on hold with American Home Shield now for one hour and one minute waiting to speak with a supervisor. The service at American Home Shield is terrible.

I requested service on Friday and was assigned an AC company. On Monday AC company assessed that they needed to be replaced. AC submitted the info to AHS and I called to see how long it would take to be installed. I was told the part would have to approved, go through purchasing, and mailed in 3-5 days. Then, the AC would call and schedule an appointment. So, I asked and was told they didn't know when my AC would be replaced. After several calls nobody can tell me when it will be fixed. Is that too much to ask? Why does it take 7 days without air to fix a compressor.

He quickly diagnosed the problem and was able to fix it then.

They told me that they could fix my washer, but it took a lot longer than I would have liked for it to take. They had been messing with it about two months, trying to get it fixed. The part for it would cost $275. So I chose for them to just pay me the difference and let me get a new washer. So I paid the difference for a new washer and then they were shipping the washer to me. They told me that was the only way I could have bought it at Lowe's but it would've been more expensive.

They shipped it to me from Dallas which is about two hours away since we live a hundred miles from Dallas. It took over a week the first time and they sent it to a residence in an 18-wheeler. So we had to hook onto a trailer to go to a location where we could meet them to get it. But I did not accept it because it was damaged -- the front of the washer caved in. So it took over a week before I got the new one which is working good. So it has ended up okay, but it took a long time.

The people they recommended to do the work the first time were from Sears. And Sears gave me a date that was 10 days in advance. I let them do that the first time because, at that time, it was my refrigerator that had a problem with the icemaker, which I could do without. But on the washer, they got a local person because when they would call me, they would give me dates that were a week and a half away. So for the rural areas, they need to use more local people so that the dates to get them repaired are closer.

April 2015 AHS sent Total Air Care out. Unit not cooling. Was 5 hours late and totally misdiagnosed the issue. Said evap coil was impacted and needed to be pressure washed wanted 360-ish to do that. I removed the filter to increase air flow. $150.00. April 2015 my local contractor came out. Said he would pressure wash the coil for $150.00. Upon inspection he said the coil did not need to be pressure washed but there was a leak in the system. I observed ice and holes on the coil. Added Freon. $150.00. More on this below 8/6/2015. 6/19/2015 unit not cooling again. AHS has 60 day warranty on work, so outside the scope of warranty. Orders a second opinion. If it's determined that it's a recurrence of the prior issue, no charge. If it's a new issue, $75.00. Jack from Alpha tech mechanical (**) comes out. Nice man, very knowledgeable. Adds Freon, $38.00 (no $75.00 service fee due to same problem).

I spoke with AHS about my displeasure about having to have Freon added twice in 60 days and was told a supervisor would call me within four hours. 6/25/2015 supervisor FINALLY calls me (5 days after I was promised). Janice **, direct line **. Said that if the problem occurred again to call her directly and she would order a leak test. 7/31/2015 unit not cooling again. Left voicemail for Janice. 8/5/2015 unit still not cooling. Left voicemail for Janice. 8/6/2015- called to schedule service and was transferred to Recall. I related the sequence of events and was informed that if I used an outside contractor (as I did in April) that could void my warranty. Total ** attitude. My guy diagnosed the problem correctly; AHS contractors STILL haven't. Was told that Alpha tech (from 6/19) has not filed the report as to what was wrong with the system.

I informed the customer service rep that an AC system is a sealed system and should not have to have Freon added twice in 4 months. There is obviously a leak, as reported by my local guy in April. Was informed that Alpha tech would have to come back out (the recall) and then get authorization to do a leak test. No charge for this visit. (Deb) 8/6/2015 email confirmation of request received. Original contractor (Total Air care) assigned. Should have been assigned to Alpha Tech another mistake by AHS. 34 minute phone call to get it reassigned to the correct contractor. Spoke to Carolyn. 8/11/2015 as of writing this, I still have not received a call from the contractor to schedule or call from the supervisor. Pathetic.

Our a/c condenser went out so we submitted a repair ticket. American Home Shield sent someone 2 days later to diagnose the problem. I live in Tucson, AZ and our temperatures have been 100-110 degrees and a/c is not a luxury but a necessity. We were told that the replacement condenser would have to be shipped to Tucson by AHS and that would take 7-10 business days (17 calendar days from the night I submitted my ticket).

Two business days and 4 calendar days of being in heat (that is frankly not safe) later, we received a call that our claim had been approved and that our repair will be completed in 7-10 business days from today. So 21 days after my a/c breaks in the middle of summer in the desert I may have my a/c fixed. How is this good customer service??? How can this company let customers live without a necessity for so long? In an emergency situation like this I feel like the repair company should authorize our local repair man to use a part that is sourced in town.

BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE!!! I can not stress this enough. PLEASE READ! If you are considering get AHS, READ THIS FIRST!!! I have never had such an awful experience in my life!! We have a contract on our 1930 home. We had to call in for our first service call last week. Our thermostat wasn't working and we couldn't get it fixed. After waiting most the week for a call, we finally received a confirmation call for the next day. The lady was apparently at home making calls because I could hear what sounded like small dogs barking and a TV in the background. No biggie. More than likely a small company and I usually like the little guys!

Technician gets there, asks me what's going on. I explained the thermostat is not working. TAKE HEED NOW!!! This is where it really gets lovely... He turned on the fan and said, "Oh. That works. Let me check outside." Came back in one minute later, said my coolant was two units low and needed to be replaced. I also found out AHS only covers $10 per unit. He told me I needed a NEST thermostat. He said it was the best for old homes. Went back outside, filled coolant, came back to my door with a bill for $179. Said it should be working in a few minutes and left VERY abruptly. That was it. I have a simple unit. He didn't go in the basement and check that part. Didn't come in to see if the air actually became cool... NOTHING.

So I bought a $200 NEST, had my husband install it, only for it to not work. Called Nest, they were beyond helpful and pleasant! They had me send photos, asked numerous questions, and did everything to help. They informed me the wiring was shot and needed to be updated. I called AHS to inform them of all of this. Their solution... Have me pay another $75 for another service fee. They refuse to waive it and basically I'm stuck forking out the bill to get it corrected... My thermostat isn't going to be reimbursed because the tech didn't send the orders in as he was suppose to. So now I am out close to $400, need to update all wiring, and still am sitting in a 90 degree house.

I am canceling my contract tomorrow and will report AHS to the BBB. I will also inform my real estate agent who referred me to them to never refer another client. This is the worst customer service ever. I can't believe I fell for it and now I have to try and get this fixed. Thanks for nothing AHS. Oh! And AHS, why not try contracting out your jobs to people who aren't trying to screw others over.

I called on Monday, 8/3 to report a problem with my AC unit. It wasn't cooling properly. I live in San Antonio where the temperatures were right around the century mark. The American Home Shield (AHS) agent gave me the name and phone # for Quantum Mechanical in Boerne TX. After hanging up, I immediately called them to provide my name and number and asked them to contact me my house was already at 85 degrees. I then called them several times Tuesday morning and left several voice mail messages. I finally got through Tuesday afternoon and scheduled an appointment for Wednesday.

In the meantime, I called AHS to complain about the lack of a response from this vendor. I was on hold a total of 1 hr, 11 mins of which 38 minutes was to wait for a supervisor. At this point, I had requested a new vendor since the one I was appointed would never answer the phone and would not even return a simple phone call. Your supervisor explained the contract to me and the fact that it was not an emergency because the Weather Channel showed San Antonio temperatures at 96 degrees and it had to be 105 to qualify. I asked her what the temperature was inside my house and she could not answer.

On the next day Wednesday, Aug 5th, Quantum Mechanical repaired a portion of my AC problem and got the system cooling somewhat again, and leaving open a work order to recharge the unit with freon. The tech said he would be back on either Thursday or Friday to complete the repairs because he came out with an empty can of freon (oh, and I gave him a wire nut because he came without those as well). During the next couple of days, Quantum made no attempts to contact me about that follow-up visit. I called Quantum many times on Thurs and Fri only to get the answering machine on which I left several messages. Not once did anyone call me back.

During this time, I called AHS three times for help. Each time AHS was able to contact Quantum on their first attempt (they didn't answer my call but answered AHS call, how weird). On Saturday, Aug 8th, I again called AHS. And again the AHS agent was able to speak to Quantum who stated to AHS that they would contact me within 30 minutes to schedule that follow-up appointment. That phone call was never happened (they know how to play your game).

I finally talked to the owner at Quantum on Monday, 8/10 at approx 7:50 am. He said he would schedule me for Tuesday, 8/11 between 11 and 3 p.m. I asked him to call me 30 mins before arrival so that I could meet him at my house and let him in. I waited until 3:30 and tried to contact them without any luck. Then I called AHS for the 5th time on this matter. I told the agent of my issue and history of my case, and asked that she contact Quantum. Once again, she was able to get right through to the owner who told her that he had told me 2 - 6 pm. (He told me 11-3 pm.)

I asked the agent if someone could follow up with Quantum at 6 pm this evening since I had this history with Quantum and she said NO. Then I asked to speak to a supervisor, and she said there weren't any supervisors available and that she couldn't guarantee that someone would even call me later today. I guess your staff is extremely busy and don't have time to simply follow up with someone that you have hired to represent your company, especially after all of this.

As a result of having to contact you 5 times and spending over 2 hours on hold for one problem, I will be canceling my contract after 20+ years at the end of the current term. Your customer service agents and supervisors have no compassion for the concerns of your customers as is evident in this complaint. I have told 4 of your employees that Quantum does not represent AHS in a positive manner and that went in one ear and out the other. I researched many online reviews on Quantum Mechanical, many of which had the same problem as I. Hard to reach, would not return phone calls, did not show up when they promised, etc. etc. etc.

The customer service rep mentioned she would put in a correction form and not to worry. 7-14-15 I received a final notice requesting my $75 service fee I call again and they told me the same thing but that the previous rep had wrong dispatch number and that she would correct.

I call again on 8-2-15 to verify. "This is taken care of." "NO it was still delinquent." I escalated to a supervisor who claimed he took care of this. I call again as well as check my account online 8-6-15. Nothing was done. So I took upon myself to find the number to their regional offices and got through without any hold time. She took my information and even gave me her extension. Told me she would get with accounting department. She even told me to call her Monday to verify it had been taken care of. 4 days later. I called AHS because I was having problems with my hot water heater. It would turn off automatically so I would never know if I had hot water. The plumbing co came and resolved the problem temporarily. Few weeks later again the same issue. The plumber was sent back again. Four more times to resolve the issue but each time they wanted a service fee for the same persisting problem. Not only that, they claim there's one service fee if you have an issue related to plumbing at same time the serviceman is at your home. Although there was a service request put in for another plumbing issue with my shower which was never taken care of while they were here they want to charge me again for a service that should have been taken care of at the time they were here but never completed. I'm outraged! I pay them a premium of over $100 a month plus $75 service fee. If I paid the plumber directly it would be more reasonable.

Each time I call AHS I'm on hold for at least half an hour to speak to someone. The reason I'd rather speak to someone is so I can explain the circumstances of why I shouldn't be charged a service fee each time for a problem that was never resolved. Today, I was on the phone for one hour and 20 minutes only to hear from the supervisor because I was away on vacation and sixty days has passed my service is not referred to as a recall and so I have to once again pay a service fee. This company has been a joke. I've had the worst experience with them.

A few months ago I had a problem with my sub-zero fridge. AHS claims if they can't fix it they will replace it. They first deducted all the costs they incurred for trying to fix it which took more than 6 months of back and forth. Imagine six months without a working fridge. Then they said they have a limit as to the cost of the replacement. I finally had to give up and purchase one without them. Very, very disappointed in their services. I purchased insurance for peace of mind but American Home Shield had only caused me nothing more than stress, money and aggravation.

AHS sent out an air conditioner guy and he cleaned up our unit really good. He was wonderful, nice, professional and did a good job. The year before, AHS sent out somebody else and they just loaded the A/C with freon and left. Our A/C is currently working great. As a matter of fact, we can’t turn it any lower than 72 degrees because it’s so cold. Before we got it fixed, we had to put it down 65 degrees to make the house cool.

When something goes wrong and we call AHS, they send somebody out. The turnaround time is awesome and the people call immediately. All of the contractors that AHS sent out for the different claims we had either fixed the problem permanently or tried to do something else. I wasn’t exactly thrilled with everybody that came out here but this last air conditioning company that they sent out was awesome. But I know that AHS don’t really have any control over with what the contractors do once they get here, so it's been really great overall.

I had to wait two more days before they got the new compressor and I had called the air conditioning guy back because it rattles like a lawnmower. He told me to keep an eye on it. We went to Europe since then but since we've been back, the air conditioning has got all the rattling noise when it kicks on. It then runs okay again and when it stops, it sounds funny too. The insurance company didn't do me no favor when they got that company to install my new compressor and it's still not to my liking.

He told me that kind of compressor they put in that was ordered from the insurance company was the one they have problems on. I had a Python and they'd supposedly put a Python in again. But no and I'm not very happy with that at all. The way it looks and the way it sounds, I'm sure it's going to break down again within the next five or six months and I’m stuck with the heat. We have 94 degrees inside the house and super humid outside and hot. This place down gets hot and in fact yesterday, we had 104.

I really liked the contractor since he was very nice man, professional, and he cleaned up after. The water leak has been entirely fixed and I'm very pleased with having AHS warranty.

My most recent claim with AHS was for a water softener repair. The water softener was completely not operational, the control was not working and the water could not be set off. I had to cut the pipes off and install caps myself. Submitting the claim was simple. I called AHS and they got hold of somebody. I live in the Rio Grande Valley and I understand that they don't have a large choice in vendors. It'd be nice if they had another one on water softeners but it is what it is.

It was a simplistic repair, AHS probably paid three times what it was worth. I felt bad about it, but that's their business and I'm not supposed to manage that for them. Since then, the water softener has been running. I hope keeps that way, but I don't even know how to reset the timer on it. I don't know how to do anything because my information experience is with a mechanical control and I just think this one is a different animal. I also have no operating instructions for the system at all.

Prior to that claim, I also lost a water heater in December of last year. AHS sent a company and after the usual standard complaining back and forth, they sent the people out with a new water heater to replace the one I put in when I built the house, a computer-controlled one with a 10-year warranty on it. What AHS sent out was a $150 piece of junk that wouldn't last two years and they refused to do anything about it. They said they would pay me $256 and I could do whatever I wanted.

I spent $700 replacing the water heater but I never sent the bill back to them, and I never got my $256 from them as well. To my understanding, the contract calls for them to replace the heater in-kind. My other experiences with them had been very good. They've made quite a few repairs and replacements, and for the most part, we've been satisfied. But I was very disappointed with this water heater claim and it left a very bad taste in my mouth. If I get another one like that, I'll be looking for another home warranty company.

Have been having problem with the a/c for the last 6 months. Repeated service calls and no one fixes it. Finally one a/c expert tells me the unit is shut, needs to be replaced. It has been 100 degrees here and we have an elderly person in the home. They tell me they need one more opinion and they will replace. They send the guy who was there three times, and he states it is not the a/c. Some ridiculous beam is rotten and the a/c is tilted. Meanwhile it has ruined a piece of my ceiling. I know this is not true since I had two professional home inspections done in the last two years, one as recently as June 2015, and I called that inspector. He unequivocally says, this is not the case. I have been on the phone at least 5x, waiting for hours, and can't get thru to talk to anyone, meanwhile, no a/c and this person is suffering. Currently on the phone for over 60 mins, and still no answer.

UPDATED ON 08/10/2015: After repeated calls to fix the a/c. We finally got to the root of the problem with a contractor we called ourselves. But all this time, when the a/c shut off, it was due to the drain valve not working. Because it was backing up, it rotted the platform it was sitting on and leaked onto the ceiling of my 300-year-old house. By the time the problem was identified, the a/c had to be removed to build a new platform. Of course, AHS claims no responsibility. But, how could I see the problem when it is in the attic accessible through a crawl space! Their final vendor said the a/c was shot. Now, I had to make the choice. Put it back on the new platform and repair it by AHS or put in a new A/C, because my vendor was adamant it was done.

Now comes for one of their tricks. They acknowledge the repair that would be needed, but will not take the estimate provided by my vendor who is a certified good vendor. So, they will only allow $425 for the work they claim could have had the unit up and running. FYI, this all happened during the most steamy hot weather in Charleston. The temperature in the house was 100+ for days. So, they would send someone out, he would empty the water that was unable to drain and reset the a/c. Once it started going as soon as the drain filled, it would cut off.

I have been with AHS for over three years and have made 4 total calls so far. Only one of these calls had a satisfactory outcome - related to the fan going out on the inside unit of the HVAC system. The last call has been particularly trying and frustrating for me. My AC started to go out in mid-Jul with intermittent cooling and towards the end it totally died on me. I placed a request on Friday (Jul 25, 2015) and didn't expect to hear from them until next Monday based on their policy of "someone will contact you within 24-48 business hours." So we suffered through the weekend and were hopeful when the contractor actually came by the house before end of Monday. Turns out the outside unit fan motor had gone bad. They tried to swap with an after-market motor which ran for a short time and died. I was told they would need to get an OEM fan motor for the outside unit.

Today it's over three weeks but I cannot get a straight answer from either the contractors (American Air Conditioning) or the AHS about when the part is going to be available. The AHS is ready to defend the contractors with excuses for their incompetencies, and not ready to take remedial measures while our family with small kids are suffering during the peak of Texan summer. I am beyond angry and frustrated. I am paying premium to AHS to stand up for me and ensure proper service from contractors but instead they act like bystanders. I cannot take up the matter with the contractors because AHS is the intermediary. Is this kind of service to expect from AHS or any home warranty company??? What are my options besides the obvious one of dumping AHS??

However, he said the earliest he could get an answer was 20 minutes on the telephone which is terrible customer service. They advertise it on television and they're getting a lot more business and they don't have the personnel to handle it. I would give them a perfect rating but with the stipulation that they're going to do something to handle extra business. Moreover, the deductible is going up to $75 and it was $45 when I started with them. That is a little high and I used to pay somewhere around $500 for my premium, but it's now almost $700 a year which is also high.

In fact, my brother just switched to another warranty company because of the pricing with American Home Shield. It may be due to the season and the amount of work being done, but I assume they’re low bidders, so they simply don’t have the staff to come right away. Overall, AHS gives good service over the years. It’s just that at times, their contractors are swamped and slow to respond.

There is not really a resolution to the issue, but the company replied and I responded. It is the best warranty company out there as far as coverage. Not everything will be covered, so don't expect that, but it covers stuff and helps you not to worry when times are tough. Its way better than another company I tried, but like I said, you get what you pay for. This is an insurance plan and I have to tell you, some of the things in my house, have been completely replaced because of AHS.

However, these companies started to restrict what they covered or the parts they covered. One company, for example, only covered ONE part on a Hot Water Heater. Everything else was not covered, but they list it in their brochure. You have to read the fine print on these things and understand not everything will be covered or fixed immediately. You may have to wait for a part. But with AHS, they covered more than most..so check your books when you get them and know what you are paying for.

    Original Review: Aug. 10, 2015

I placed a complaint with AHS and cancelled my contract after 11 years, actually. I loved that company, having a single parent limited income, they helped me sooo much when my kids were growing up. It just so happened that around 2010 or so, they changed. I do not know why but less things got fixed. There were less repairmen available and sometimes they were poor or didn't fix anything as it wasn't a covered repair. I was so disappointed in them... BUT TO BE FAIR they did try to contact me about this and I never got the message or saw the note on here. So I cannot say they didn't try to speak with me and they were at their worst a much better company than another company I tried for a short time and let go after a LITTLE OVER A YEAR. Choice... horrible. Stick with American Home Shield and try to work it out. You get what you pay for.

We have been member for several years. Have always gotten things fixed somewhat easily - always minor repairs. Our master bath jacuzzi tub motor stopped working and I called for repair. AHS sent their contractor, Arsenal Plumbing. Arsenal came and removed the motor, saying it had blown and that they would be back the following week with a repaired motor.

In the meantime I slipped three discs in my low back and had to get an epidural - making it hard to stand in the shower. Was not able to use bath tub because the motor had been removed and we were told not to turn on water. I called Arsenal 2 times per week for 3 weeks straight. They kept saying they would call me back. NEVER called back.

Tried AHS several times and after being on hold for 40+ minutes each time, after I finally got a person, s/he would say that Arsenal hasn't updated the status of the repair and that someone would call me back from AHS within 24 hours. NEVER got a call back from AHS. My husband called AHS, got a hold of a person after being on hold for over 40 minutes and was told the repair was approved and that Arsenal would be in touch to complete the project. Never heard from Arsenal. Called 3 times and asked for a manager to call me.

Finally got a hold of Arsenal - they told me AHS only approved the motor repair but not the "motherboard" repair (the two apparently go hand-in-hand) and that I needed to pay $1,100 to complete the repair. This is completely unacceptable and we have been without our bathtub for a month. Not one person from AHS ever followed through with the promise to get back to us and not one person from AHS informed us of this $1,100 co-pay. We are NOT renewing our contract with AHS and I highly suggest you look elsewhere.

In my most recent claim with American Home Shield, a part that AHS had installed for the previous renter rusted and needed to be replaced. Before the vendor came out I told AHS that I don't think I should have to pay again for a part that was initially not installed correctly. They said not to worry about paying the deductible that when they get the claim they'll review it and decide whether or not to waive the service fee based on the circumstance.

This past Monday, the vendor came out and when the tech requested the money, I explained the situation. Instead of calling AHS, he called the owner who ripped the part back out and left. They never followed up with AHS. They were cursing on the phone so I told the tech to have a call conference with AHS so we'll get this squared away. But he didn't listen and called the owner who was cursing and said, "Take the part back." The guy came out and ripped the part out, pushed back in the old part and kept saying it wasn't his fault. I said “No, it is your fault because you didn’t tell the owner the whole story. You just said I didn’t want to pay, which wasn’t the truth.”

I have contacted AHS about this. They said they were going to follow up with the vendor. At first, they didn't want to do anything about it. They just said they would send somebody and I kept pushing back. I said to them, "How could you let someone represent your company and not even get on the phone and speak to the customer, and then start cursing?" So unprofessional. I've never had that experience in my whole life. So to make a long story short, I ended up ordering online the part myself, which defeats the purpose of having that home warranty to begin with.

I have to follow-up with AHS constantly, if I do put a claim in. They seem to have a bit of a relaxed stance in terms of their giving the vendor one day to call us to schedule a time for service. There have been instances recently where I've had the air conditioning unit break. The same vendor had to come out three times to fix it and I had to constantly chase the vendor to come back out and fix things. As it stands today, I'm going to look for someone else to help me cover my appliances.

American Home Shield provides comfort for families that don't have finances to pay for a big job all at once. It was easy to file a claim with them - they were very helpful and friendly. Most recently, we had someone come out to unclog some pipes. He double checked what the issues were, and because there were several areas that needed attention, he had let us know for each one how it was working and we didn't have any problem. After the repair, everything's been good.

Most of the time, submitting a claim with AHS is pretty easy but it becomes iffy during holidays. So far, all the contractors that they've sent out to us have done a good job. However, I am not sure if it's cost effective to pay $50 a month plus the $75 when the contractors appear. When I first began with them, it was not that expensive and now, it keeps getting more and more expensive so I'm not real sure what the cost return is. Generally I've had good experience with AHS except for the expense so I think I'll drop it.

Our Kenmore dishwasher wasn't working correctly so I talked to someone over at AHS and a Kenmore rep came out the next day. We liked him, he was really sweet. He even gave us some new tips on how to get my dishes cleaner, like changing the type of dish-washing soap and using those little packets instead of liquid. He also said that if we put a cup of vinegar in with the cups and glasses, it will get rid of the hard water stains. There was no way to fix the dishwasher though. One side has broken in an attachment where silverware are put. Kenmore doesn't make that part anymore but AHS would have replaced it had they made the part. It wasn't AHS' fault so we're good. We just probably need to get a new dishwasher.

Submitting a claim was easy. The contractors were professional, but they have been out here five times for my dishwasher and fixed the same problem. I got the dishwasher in 2001 and the contractors keep telling me that I don't take the dishes' dirt good enough before loading it to the dishwasher. But when I do my dishwasher, I had practically washed my dishes before I even put them in and they're pretty clean already. The truth is the dishwasher is just there to sterilize the dishes more or less.

My last claim for the dishwasher was within the 60-day grace period so I didn’t have to pay for the contractors to come back out. But usually, it breaks down within two to two and a half months after they fix it. And sometimes, I can’t call them out right away again because I don’t have the money to pay for the service call. For a while, I was doing without a dishwasher and just doing the dishes all by hand until I can get someone to get out here. But overall I'm satisfied with my experience with American Home Shield and I have recommended them to people already.

It was Monday that we got a call from the contractor to make an appointment. He seemed not from a major company. He was like from a mom-and-pop place but he was nice, friendly, professional, and clean cut. Now, our fridge is in perfect performance. With the repairs that we’ve had, AHS has been a great value for us. I work for Sears and we offer something similar, and I honestly think AHS does it better. The last one though, it might have been a little different and a bit of a misunderstanding with the people that came in to do my air conditioning. The coil was dirty and I had to turn it off and it was pretty hot and it took about 10 to 12 days before they came to get it done after the first visit. I tried to call AHS several times but they all were very busy. However, once it was done, it was great. A young man came in and got it done in no time. He said they were sorry and so it worked out well. That was one negative incident of several that had been outstanding. So generally we're very happy. All the contractors have been wonderful except for one last summer. We had an electrician out for the ceiling fan. We had trouble with the first one because he showed up intoxicated. I've had American Home Shield since their inception. As a matter of fact, in the past couple of months, they replaced the dishwasher for me. It took me about two months to locate a dishwasher that would fit inside of where it was to go, but I'm more than pleased and I'm glad I went through all that because it's a Bosch dishwasher. I wouldn't buy anything but a Bosch. AHS has always been courteous to me. They were very accommodating in waiting because I said I'm having trouble finding a dishwasher that can fit inside that space and they said, "Don't worry about it. Take your time."

They've always worked with me. When it started out in the dishwasher, the guy was having trouble diagnosing it, he came out a couple of times so they sent someone for a second opinion. They didn't tell me they were going to do that but I wound up getting a new dishwasher. I also did have another incident years ago. The first refrigerator we got was a lemon but they took care of it and replaced our refrigerator freezer as well. I was very grateful for it.

I contacted the warranty department by phone Friday eve about 10pm as my a/c unit had quit working. I received an immediate email with the contractor's name and then a follow up recorded call the next morning at 8:02am stating the contractor would be calling me with an appt time soon. By 9:30am I had not heard from the contractor. It is August in Phoenix AZ where it was going to be over 100 degrees that day.

I tried to call the contractor and received a voice mail. I then called AHS and expressed my need to have someone out today due to the extreme heat. I was told by the computer it was only 90 degrees where I was located and that the contractor had 24 hours to contact me to set up an appt and 48 hours to come to me home. I requested due to extreme weather conditions in Arizona in summer this be expedited. I was told that could not be done unless it was 105 outside. I did receive a call from contractor at 11:30 stating they can be to my home between 7 and 9am Sunday.

They did not show up till after 9am and they did not bring their work truck. He could not fix the problem as he did not have his torch or antifreeze. He had to return the next day after his truck was fixed. Sometime in afternoon I called AHS and asked for another contractor as I had been without air for over 24 hours. I was told then new contractor would be allowed the 24 hours response time etc. I asked for a supervisor/manager to call me first thing in am. No call from supervisor. No call confirming return time Monday from a/c guy.

Called them again to say, "Hey, I need some customer service. What do I pay you all for?" Same response. He says “He will be out to fix your unit this afternoon but no time.” Let me tell you, my home was over 100 degrees for 2 days and Monday there was a heat warning out for the valley. I did finally get my a/c fixed $700 later about 3:15pm on Monday. If you recall I reported it 10pm Friday. I requested twice to have a supervisor/manager contact me and still have not had the pleasure of speaking to anyone about my concerns/experience.

Needless to say my contract expires tomorrow with them and I really do not see a reason to continue paying them for crappy customer service! A/C should be a ER fix in Arizona in the summer months and not the 24/48 hours as currently reported to me by customer service. It would be nice if they refunded my deductible of $100 for my inconvenience and all the fees paid for hotel for 2 nights.

AHS came with our house purchase. They were good on claims and I've had good interactions with their technicians. However they have not addressed our air conditioner problems. What they have done is piece together an air conditioner that hasn't been doing the job. They should say that the air conditioning unit is well beyond its functional use, but I think AHS' goal is never to have to replace anything but to fix anything that they've got-- whether they fix it well or not. We finally gave up and bought a brand-new air conditioner and things are much better. From my standpoint however, it would have benefited AHS had they help me buy a new air conditioning unit as there will not be any claims against it for 10 years due to the extra warranty. Still, I would recommend them to a friend for low level services.

One of the things that I had called and asked for the rental property was that the ceiling fan is kind of loose from the ceiling. It's crooked and needs to be tightened up. Also, the tenant had said one of the electrical outlets in the master bath was not working.

So I let months go by without hearing anything from the tenant, assuming everything's okay. But as I went in May, I saw that the ceiling fan was still hanging a little crooked. But other than that, I've been very satisfied. I've had the service for three years and I know they're going to tell me the truth and if they can fix it, they'll do it to save money or help me.

I called American Home Shield during the first week of July because my 20-year old air conditioning unit was becoming less and less effective. They assigned a company called A-US Air Conditioning of Texas which eventually came to my home four different times: the first two times attempting to repair the 20-year old unit, a third time to replace it (and taking four hours to make the replacement unit operational), and a fourth time when the technician cleared out a condensation line and told me that otherwise the unit was operating properly despite the fact that daytime temperatures inside my house never dropped out of the low to mid 80s. I have spent hours on the phone on hold, paid something in the neighborhood of $800 for freon to charge both the old dying unit and the new one, and lost several hundred dollars in billable income because I had to stay home from a freelance assignment to meet with a/c technicians.

When I failed to hear back from A-US Air Conditioning of Texas in response to my complaints that they had yet to solve my problem, I called American Home Shield again, insisting that they assign my service request to a competent company. Finally, about 10 days later, that technician arrived, did a thorough examination of the problem, and turned in a report that called on American Home Shield to send a plumber to fix the ongoing condensation blockage and to reconsider the adequacy of the unit they had installed.

He told me they questioned his diagnosis, called for a "second opinion," and were ordering a third company to come out and do their own assessment. It appears to me that this company's only response to such problems has been to throw incompetent people at it so I will continue to pay for their "protection" until a knowledgeable technician points out real problems that need to be repaired, when they stonewall that assessment and find a way to avoid responsibility.

My experiences with American Shield has been frustrating. I have had the policy for almost a year and have put in one service for my garage door (which is covered) but when the service person came out, the issue was not covered... Okay, strike one. I put in a service request for a repair yesterday - no call from any service provider after 24 hours. I called the company, no appointments for over a week. I called American.. waited on hold for over 30 minutes, was told that I would be called back within the next 24 hours... by the American Home Shield Rep to let me know who will come out to service - meanwhile my appliance is still not working and no one is scheduled to come look at it... another day passes. Argh!

I have only had a contract with AHS for a few months. Just recently, my ice dispenser built in to my Sub Zero refrigerator stopped dispensing ice. I called to check coverage, verified it, and placed a claim. I was assigned a vendor who does not service Sub Zero. They called AHS to point that out, but AHS did not reassign the claim. I called in and spoke to another representative who assigned it to a new vendor, again a vendor who does not service Sub Zero. The third time I called, each time I wait on line for a very lone time, they assigned it properly. He came out, said he had to order parts, and they would call when the parts arrived. No call.

This morning I called for status and they told me AHS told them to cancel out the claim and that they would call me. They told me this happened the day they came out when they called for parts authorization. That was 10 days ago. I asked them what the problem was and they told me they are not allowed to tell me this. I have now been on hold with AHS for 55 minutes waiting to find out why my claim has been cancelled and why no one from AHS called me to discuss with me earlier. This is not professional. As a realtor and builder, I don't think I can recommend them to other people.

When I submitted a claim with AHS, I did it online and it was easy. Then, I had a call back within two hours from the service contractor they indicated, and made an appointment. The technicians arrived on time. They did the work that they agreed upon and I'm satisfied with the repair. In fact, I've used the technicians before when I had a similar claim a couple of years ago. So, my experience with AHS was perfectly fine. I have recommended them to a friend previously and I'd recommend them again.

I have been dealing with American Home Shield since January regarding my washer and dryer. Back at the beginning of the year I had called because they both were broken. The first repair man came out and diagnosed them both, and had them both fixed within 2 weeks. Fast forward to May, they BOTH break again. I call AHS and they book another repair man, I wait a week, no call from him. I call AHS, and they call the repair man to tell him to call me. Well I ended up getting his number and calling him to schedule my appointment. He shows up and tells me the reason they both broke for the 2nd time was because the first repair man replaced the broken parts with USED parts! So I spent another $100.00 deductible for the 2nd repair man to tell me they first repaired both the washer and dryer with used parts!

The second repair man told me he would need to order new parts and he would call me in a week. He never called me. I called AHS and they told me he called in to verify he could order the parts, the phone got disconnected and he didn't call back. I asked why they didn't call him back, and the associate did not have an answer for me! At this point I am livid!

We scheduled an appointment on 3-way (because I could not get in touch with him) and he did a no-show. I took off work and sat there for nothing! I called and we got him scheduled again and he finally came and fixed the washer and dryer. Here is the kicker, AHS has not yet refunded me for the first deductible I paid to the guy that used old parts. I have called 4 times now and I have had the same thing told to me, "The person that took the concession, must review the file." No one can give me an answer on when my money will be refunded to me. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE MAY, it's now AUGUST! I'm on hold as I type this. Not to mention, every time I call I'm on hold for at least 30 minutes before I can speak with anyone. Horrible customer service to say the least.

We have used this company for 11 years. My husband convinced me to continue to use them even after the repairman they contacted refused to come out to fix the well pump in the middle of summer with livestock dependent on that well and my husband a disabled veteran. They finally authorized a friend of ours to come out and then fought to not pay even when I had the email authorizing the bill. I wanted another company and my husband talked me into staying with American Home Shield.

Now, four and a half years later we need the hot water heater elements replaced and the repairman says "We will be there at 2pm..." Never showed and would not answer the phone when we called. AHS is at a loss. So I replace the elements and 2 weeks later they go out, I had the wrong ones. Now AHS calls a repairman and they don't call us. I call and they say they don't service our area (Zeus plumbing in San Antonio tx). We call AHS and they have to call Zeus for verification... 2 hours later I call and Zeus says "We don't have to call them. They know we don't service your area." We call AHS, again, and they told us they will have someone contact us to come out in 2 hours. Never happened. Save the money and hire your own people. Don't waste your money on AHS.

My husband and I are senior citizens and loyal customers to American Home Shield for about 20 years. The past few years we have had repeated service calls for our heat pump / air conditioning unit. For the most recent service call, AHS assigned Comfort First H & A. They have been wonderful to deal with. Both employees who came to my home were very professional. Problems arose when Comfort First H&A reported to American Home Shield that our unit needed to be replaced. We have always been very happy with AHS, and have even recommended them to our friends. But it seems things have changed over the past few years. I recently had my stove replaced and was told they could not match my color, stainless steel. Since when is stainless steel a color?

I received an email from AHS that our unit was going to be replaced and that I should hear from the contractor within 3 days. Monday was day 3, so I called them. To my dismay, I was told that I have to pay $5,295.00 out of pocket for things that AHS won't cover. I called this morning, with very long wait times and the issue is not resolved. I requested to speak to a manager and was told they do not have "managers on demand," that she would have to issue a request for a manager to call me. So I agreed. I was told to expect a call within 3-4 hours. It has been 2 hours, no call yet. The second problem is I was told the unit they are sending to the contractor is a 13 SEER, which was "phased out" last year. The unit requires R22 freon, which within a few years, will no longer be available.

So why am I getting substandard equipment, that after the year 2020, cannot be serviced for Freon issues. I would have to replace the unit again. That's only 4 years and 5 months away. The first customer service person that I spoke with this morning told me I should have read my contract. Why? I renew over the phone as I always have. If my coverage changed shouldn't you tell me before processing my credit card? I'm on week 2 now with no air conditioning. There is no way we can afford what they are asking us to pay out of pocket, nor should we have to. That is why we have insurance. So what am I suppose to do? Is this how you treat loyal customers? Why am I expected to cover the cost of the air handler when that is one of the places the freon is leaking?

To make it worse, the contractor told me had I just gone through them, it would cost approx. $6,000.00 to replace my unit with a 14 SEER unit that does not use R22 freon. So if I am only saving $705.00 by having the insurance, why have it? I am still hoping for a very happy outcome. But, it is looking like they just don't care about us. I will update this post as soon as I speak with the manager and reach some kind of reasonable resolution.
