American Home Shield came out promptly to fix my water heater. The contractor who came was very knowledgeable, polite, and told me what was wrong and what he was gonna do. AHS got it all fixed for me and I am very satisfied with them.

We have an AHS home warranty. Our fridge stopped working on New Year's Eve and we filed a service request with AHS. They sent us a technician from Sears. The technician has come out 5 times and replaced the fridge compressor twice and the fridge is still not working. Since the tech had not provided a diagnosis to replace the fridge, AHS sent out a technician from a different vendor. He said the compressor needed to be replaced and now the fridge also has a leak. AHS then passed the work back to Sears to fix something they have already looked at 5 times. I contacted AHS customer service and multiple occasions and I either am told to work it out with Sears or I am put on hold and eventually hang up. AHS is obviously trying to avoid their responsibility to properly repair or replace the fridge, hoping that we just give up out of frustration. AHS lacks integrity.

My heating system was completely covered inside and outside with ice. My neighbor found it after church on Sunday. I immediately called American Home Shield. The young lady that helped me tried to get someone in our area to pick up the call for heating issues. It was in the high 30's. I was not able to get it fixed on Sunday, however, I was called early Monday to tell me the heating repair company would call soon. He did call, came over in 30 minutes, checked the unit (which it had to defrost before he could work on it). He turned on the emergency heat. The next day the heating system had defrosted enough to be fixed. I was most impressed with this company.

Aquarius Heating and Plumbing would bill for hours of work they never did. Nor completed. Not only that... they damaged my home from improper installation. Ultimate Plumbing also improperly installed and then wanted me to pay "again" to fix a problem they should have taken care of when they installed. American Home Shield only wants to collect their fee and be done with you when their contractors are dishonest. Never again will my friends, family or business associates use American Home Shield.

I have had AHS for many years (probably 20+) and have had some good results and many bad results. So I contacted them this morning and everything went well and a service call number was established. 5 hours later we still hadn't heard from the trades people, so I called them and they informed me that nothing had been scheduled and that by my contract they had 24 hours to schedule the service unless AHS bumped up the priority and I would have to contact them to get this done.
So still believing I contacted AHS and while the person on the phone was very nice there seemed that there was no concern whatsoever about our issue, she again quoted the 24-hour clause in the contract and never once made reference to bumping up the priority. I then cancelled the service call in disgust. We will get someone that can make it today, what would happen if it was lights or the refrigerator??? Or a life and safety issue? AHS is outstanding at hot water heaters, never had an issue but the rest seems a bit suspect.
Hello Joe, I am sorry to hear about your recent experience with your service. We strive to provide excellent customer service, and apologize for this situation.

This past summer, we needed to refill the coolant in our air conditioning. We submitted a claim to American Home Shield, and it went smoothly. Everything was good with their rep. Also, the contractors were very friendly. However, it took a bit longer than I would have liked for them to get everything organized, so we went for a while without air conditioning. But as far as the repairs went, it was pretty quick. They were in and out, and weren't in the way of anybody at home. We don't have any complaints. They're good and I would definitely use them again even without American Home Shield.

I have had 4 visits from the Sears service from January 13 to February 1st. Each time the technician comes, he discovers another issue and orders parts but cannot diagnose the problem or timing for the resolution. On February 1st he ordered another part which had already been replaced initially and this time the delivery for the part was to be on February 26. I have called AHS 12 times at different dates and times trying to get an answer or options to my situation and have been transferred to one department and to another. Finally today they told me someone would call me within a week since the case had actually been assigned to someone in Customer Relations. I have had 3 contracts with AHS including 2 rentals and will think twice before renewing with them. I just pray that I have a working oven before Easter!

I've had AHS for many years (15 in Jacksonville, FL) and I think about 13 in Fort Walton Beach. I don't worry about my appliances other than scheduling preventative maintenance. In Jacksonville, the refrigerator that came with the house stopped cooling. One call to AHS and they arranged service man to come out. Paid a one-time service fee and then let the AHS work with service man. Long story short, I got a replacement refrigerator and am very happy with service and AHS.
Then my cook top/oven combination started to come on by itself and that was very unsettling, because I couldn't make it stay turned off. Again, one call to AHS and it was like deja vu. The only input I needed to contribute was was the service fee. When service man said that cook top/oven had to be replaced, I called AHS and said I'd like to have gas rather than electric. AHS explained to me what I had to do and now I'm happily cooking with gas. AHS makes it easy. Monthly payments are an option and the service is great! Service person shows as I'm advised of time and date and AHS helps me with any issue that may occur. Why worry? Just get AHS and get spoiled.

I called AHS and told them that I needed work for my furnace. It took a while to get somebody because they are getting more automated which made the process more difficult. They are getting further away from human contact which is more inconvenient and unpleasant. It took three visits and a long time for the part to come in. It was in the coldest part of the year, so it was very awkward that way. Luckily, I had this couple of infrared heaters keeping my house fairly warm. Finally the part came and the contractor put it in. The contractors were very nice and worked together to figure out how to do the repair but the furnace was still making funny noises afterwards. One night I called AHS because the furnace made loud noises a couple of times which woke me up. They kept saying that it's just a part of the furnace that they cover which made me think that AHS might not have fixed the problem. That wasn't so good.
It's been a little bit frustrating because the guys that installed it did their best, were nice, professional and they figured the problem out but the furnace works differently than it used to and I don't know how that's going to affect my electric bill. It has to get really cold and below the temperature for the furnace to turn on and dispense heat. It's warm enough but it doesn't dispense heat to the ends of the house very often so it's a few degrees cooler at the ends of the house than it is in the center. However, I would still refer a friend because AHS was helpful. The repair would have been way more expensive without AHS and the problem would have to be fixed without the insurance.

I know AHS is a good company based on reviews. However, when I go on the web site and enter my correct information I get a message that there are no contracts for me. I get emails soliciting my business and once inferred I needed to renew, as if it does not automatically renew. I have been a customer since January 2015 and have an automatic payment. Even the telephone automated system tells me I do not have a contract so I have a very, very long wait to contact the Billing Department. They state they do not know why the web site says I don't have a contract but they assure me I do.
They did change my contract number. I got a notice when I used the web site that I needed to re-register due to upgrades. All of that is done and I still get the message I do not have a contract. Several months ago and today I left a "call back" number so I did not have to wait on the phone. Neither time did I ever get a call back from them. When I told the representatives I talked to two months ago I cannot get online they seemed disinterested and today the problem is still there. I am writing a letter to someone and I hope it is their corporate office, and perhaps I can get a solution. In the meantime I need to look for another agency to have my home warranty insurance with.

I never heard from her. So I called them back the next day, and I got a work order number. They got a contractor and the contractor contacted me. The contractor came out, worked on it and got the job done. He went right to what it was causing it and it took him less than 30 minutes to do everything. I had another contractor who came before but had to come out three times because they didn't know what they were doing. Since the repair, everything was excellent. Calling in claims for our washer and microwave wasn't difficult and the AHS contractors were fine. The one problem was the first guy that came out ordered a bunch of parts which were delivered to the house. And then the second guy that came out looked at it and said, “This just has to be replaced. We can’t even use all these.” So what it did is it delayed everything. Getting it taken care of, once that determination was made, was not a problem. Everything's running pretty smoothly now. But it would’ve been nice if the first contractor had gotten it right. The parts were in two giant boxes and three small boxes, all sitting in our garage, so they were space-consuming as well.

We had a drain backup on a Saturday but AHS was unable to find a plumber. I thought the problem could wait until Monday but the problem went crazy on Sunday and I ended up calling a plumber on my own. The plumber that AHS scheduled showed up on Tuesday and by that time we had the issue resolved. I was thinking that AHS would reimburse me but they did not. It turns out that AHS don't do drainage backups. It was written in what they cover and what they don't cover. American Home Shield needs to get some plumbers who come on the weekends for things that they do cover.

Issues: Poor quality control between customer service representatives. (Spoke to 5 different folks and I had to ask the right questions to get the assistance I needed - even though I explained my situation clearly on the 1st call.) Not responsive to emergencies (my experience was a water heater bursting on a Saturday morning). 5 inquiries in 24 hours to find out the status of my "emergency" service request lead me to just handling the situation by myself. Lowe's and Home Depot can install a water heater the same day if you order by noon. Save your money unless it comes with the purchase of a home or you don't plan on using it when emergencies happen. You can save the money and save it for when you have emergencies or when your appliances fail.

I haven’t had a claim with American Home Shield in over a year and the last time I called to submit a claim, the representative took the order on what I was calling for. They were knowledgeable and friendly, but they were not very supportive. Also, I’ve had contact with four contractors and I didn’t really care for them particularly because they were not really trying to help repair the situation. They were overpriced for what they do, and I felt like they were working for AHS instead of really trying to work to get the customer issue resolved. If I had hired a contractor on my own, it would be different and my interaction with the contractors would be more personable. They need to make some improvements, so I’m not likely to refer them.

My first claim with AHS was for a repair on my stove. Submitting it was fine but the whole process was a complete disaster all because the company said that they were going to waive my deductible, and then the first contractor that came out wanted to charge me. Then another contractor came out and they had trouble with the paperwork. The problem was a miscommunication between the repair place and their technician, they're not sending the right information. Eventually, I got the stove fixed, but my first claim was a whole dragged out process - it took way over a month. Nevertheless, when they fixed the stove, the repair was good. I'm still with AHS because I like their program. It's a good program and the price is right. I would recommend them.

AHS has A-US Airconditioning of Texas as the service supplier for the San Antonio area. The furnace was replaced under the AHS contract and I was billed 800+ dollars for items not covered. One item on my bill was a Flue pipe replacement billed at 450 dollars. When I inspected the install I noted that only a 16 inch piece of flue was installed. I spoke with "Kenny" at A-US Air and was told that 450 dollars is a flat rate charge for any length of flue and AHS approved the rate charge. 450 dollars for a 16 inch piece of flue pipe is Gouging. They can't make money on marking up the equipment as it is furnished by AHS and they must not be happy with the installation labor provided by AHS so I have to get "burned". It is not right and people should be aware of it.

I have been with AHS for about two years now. When I purchased my home the warranty was already purchased, so when it expired I didn't think about it I just registered again because I hadn't had a problem yet. Well I guess I should have read the fine print. Recently I requested service to have the hot water nozzle fixed in my child's bedroom. This was in October, it is now February and I still only have one working shower in my home. The company assigned to repair my plumbing was Rite-a-way plumbing. I have taken off work several times since my initial appointment and the company never showed or even called to cancel. They kept giving me the runaround.
I called American Home Shield to see if I can switch the company because of their poor customer service, and was also given the runaround from the warranty company as well saying that I can't have another company because parts were other (that were never installed) but since they were on order I had to stick with the company. I also asked if this is how AHS does business. This has been an issue since OCTOBER with no resolution and was also told that because they have made contact with me I can't cancel the request because it's still in a 60 day time frame. There were a lot of issues here.
Needless to say that I STILL have no shower and will have to pay an outside source, so what's the point of having a home warranty? Oh, and even better I can't even get the money back for a service that I never received. So thank you to Rite-A-Way plumbing, and an even bigger thank you to American Home Shield for nothing. I am going to cancel my policy with this company. Anyone willing to associate with a third party company that take your money and not complete a service, I don't want any dealings with!

Once they got to the final correction, there were three different things that arose. The contractor was able to solve the problem and it's been perfect since the repair. My furnace went out on Wednesday. I called American Home Shield and the tech came out and declared that he had repaired the furnace. On Thursday night, the furnace stopped working again. I called and the tech came out again. This time declaring that he needed to order a part. He also stated that the furnace part would not arrive until Monday. I protested however was told that was the best he could do. I called AHS and was told that because the part was on order, I had no recourse but to wait for the repair no matter how long it takes. Keep in mind that I live in Chicago and this is the last week of January.
On Monday, the tech returned with the part. He attempted to repair the furnace and I was informed that yet another part was needed and I had to wait for this new part to arrive. This time I was not given a time as to when to expect him to return. I called AHS and complained that I had been without heat in my home for going on 5 days now. If the furnace could not be repaired in a reasonable amount of time, a new furnace should be provided. In the least, I should be provided money for a hotel while waiting for the repairs. AHS agreed to give me $100 for purchase of a space heater.
On Tuesday, I called the tech for an update on the part and to get an idea of when the repairs could resume. The tech told me that the part was not in and that he would let me know as soon as it comes in. At this point, I was frustrated and cold!!! I called another company and had them to install a new unit. AHS should be ashamed. I went from Thursday to Wednesday, almost a week in Chicago with no heat!!! Unbelievable.

He walked to my door rudely, asked what my issue was, and told me it was not his problem, it was the way my house was built. My microwave stopped heating food, and American Home Shield referred this one company that sent out two clowns who didn't know squat. I was not impressed at all. They said they needed to replace the magnetron. It took two weeks for the company to get in touch with me and I complained to American Home Shield. I looked at reviews online and everybody complained about the same thing. They never got back to them. When they showed up, they popped in for five minutes, put a cup of water in and said, "Oh yeah, it's the magnetron." Supposedly ordered a magnetron. A couple of weeks later, they came and replaced it. It worked for a couple of days and then it wasn't working again.
I called American Home Shield and they said we should call the contractor. I said I called them twice and left messages but they haven't gotten back to me. Because American Home Shield had sent me a bill for $75, because these guys had no way of accepting a credit card. American Home Shield finally said they'll replace the microwave and so they replaced it with a brand new one. The company that came out did it in 20 minutes. Everything was good and set.
I’d recommend AHS. I've had a couple of claims like the garbage disposal and thermostat for my A/C and heat, and they were handled fine. Although the hold times on the phone were quite long, and I understand they're busy and that's fine, the companies sent were very professional, quick, and efficient. It's just the appliance company that was appalling. The communication skills leave a lot to be desired.

We submitted a request to repair a cracked Jenn-Air cooktop in November. They sent out a repairman who seemed not to know very much. He always came after hours - as if this was not his primary job. They found the same cooktop and replaced it within a reasonable amount of time. That cooktop stopped working within 2 weeks, so we submitted another repair request before Christmas. It's been 5 weeks and they either can't find the model number (they have had that on file for a long time), or can't seem to get a part which has been on order for 2 weeks. We've had to call them several times for updates.
The repairman usually doesn't update us either. So we've had to call him several times for updates. The latest as of today is that the part came but was damaged. They have to find another vendor and order again. They tell us "give us 3 days to find another vendor". They have offered to replace our stovetop, however; their offer was for a low end Sears model. Our Jenn-Air is a high end model. Not acceptable.

When I purchased an American Home Shield (AHS) warranty in 2015 I was told that repairs and/or replacement requests were very simple transactions. I was concerned that in the event of an appliance breakdown the warranty company would require me to jump through hoops in order to obtain coverage. I was assured that this was not the case and that when/if an appliance was broken, it would be quickly covered without me having to put up a fight. Unfortunately, I took them at their word and choose to purchase a policy. Big mistake!
Several months ago my refrigerator malfunctioned. After the initial $75 visit I have sat on the phone with 3 different AHS associates for 30-60 minutes each time trying to resolve my issue. The associates have been absolutely no help. They seem to all be very young with very little education and no knowledge of problem resolution techniques. After 3 calls I'm exactly no further than when I submitted my initial request. On the latest call, I asked to speak with a supervisor and the associate refused to elevate informing me that it was against policy. She told me that a request for a supervisor to reach out would be submitted and that I should expect a call within 24 hours. Well, big surprise, that call never came. I'm cancelling this policy. Buyer beware!!!

I submitted a request to have my dishwasher repaired 11/16/2015. Had a contractor come out from Sears and verified that I needed a replacement part. Part came in and contractor came out. The part did not fit. Contractor then ordered the part two more times only to find that the part was discontinued and I would need a new unit. So after taking off of work 4 times to meet the contractor I still had a broken dishwasher which was pulled out into the middle of my kitchen. Having a 12-month-old this is not ideal because of all of the wires and pieces that were hanging out of the sides. It is now 2/2/2016 and after numerous phone calls I was told that I would get a new unit or money to purchase a replacement.
When I called today I was told they would get down to the bottom of this and call me back, instead they just requested that a different company come out and try to repair it so I have to start the process all over again when they already received confirmation from Sears that this unit could not be repaired. This is unacceptable. The amount of time I have spent taking off of work and the hours I have spent on the phone has been a complete headache. At this point I would have come out better to just have purchased a new unit myself. AHS is quick to call a contractor out to fix repairs but stalls in all ways possible when it comes to replacing a unit. Just called again for the third time today before submitting this review. Was just told AHS can send as many people as they feel necessary before replacing a part. How is that justified?

Unfortunately, the system needed a part that had to be ordered and it was a Friday afternoon so they put a rush on the order and he returned Monday morning to install it. Having the peace of mind of a quick response for anything that breaks or needs repairs is worth the cost of the policy which is reasonable and affordable. Thank you AHS for being the best in customer service!

Stay as far away from this company as possible. I thought that they were good originally, but that was because I didn't know about other companies out there. I absolutely hated losing an entire day of work because their techs they only work Monday through Friday 9-5. You have absolutely no flexibility in what company they give you to... and I swear everyone that sent was incompetent and NEVER fixed a single problem. I had to have additional techs come out on my own dime.
When I cancelled my plan I had one last service done and was told by the retention and the tech that I had 60 days to get the item looked at again. Here it is 45 days later and I call to have them come back out, because immediately it wasn't fixed. I just didn't have time to get them out due to holidays and birthdays. So I call and they tell me they can't help me because my contract has ended... whatever happened to honoring your work. Stay away from them. I got a cheaper home warranty saving $200 a year, and $30 less deductible. Bump you AHS. You suck!!! If I could give you no stars I would!

I first contacted AHS around Dec 22. They sent out a local repair person for electrical issues. That was about a week later, so it wasn't too bad. He looked at our stove and said it could not be repaired and he was going to submit for it to be replaced. He began working on our wiring issue, then all of a sudden had to leave. 3 weeks later I called AHS for a status since I had not seen or heard from him. They had not received any information regarding our stove.
The service man came out finally and completed work on the wiring, then submitted the information on the stove. The next day I was contacted about the replacement, then last week it was set up for Sears to deliver it today. I was to call Sears last night after 6:30 to get a 2 hour window. I called and they did not have that window. I called today and was told they're not even delivering it. I called our local Sears delivery and they said it's there, but they don't have an order to deliver it.
So, overall, my issue isn't necessarily with AHS. It's with the serviceman that they contracted with and the appliance center they contracted with. Once AHS had the information, everything was processed quickly. My chief complaint with AHS is that I called them for one electrical issue that suddenly turned into 2 issues that I wasn't aware of and I logged into my account to see that my warranty would be terminated if I didn't pay a second $75 service fee. The electrical issue, I could have fixed for about $5. I was not aware that I was paying an additional $75 for it. I'm very thankful my stove is being replaced, but not very happy that it's taken almost 6 weeks of not having a stove/oven to do so.

There was one experience we had about seven years ago that was absolutely horrific and unfortunately, we had no resolution but we just let it go.
My latest claim with them was when we had a blockage in our kitchen sink. I called in, described the situation, and asked for Mario from American Plumbing because I've had experience with him several times before, which they gave me. He is a wonderful contractor and has always done excellent work for me. He takes the time to explain what's happening and is able to troubleshoot and fix the problem quickly. Purchased an older home in November and bought the American Home Shield warranty plan. Had the furnace inspected right away and it was found to be in excellent condition but after about 3 months it quit working. Naturally it was 7 degrees outside with a wind chill way below zero. We requested service through the AHS website and was given an assigned contractor appointment. The contractor was then supposed to contact us directly for an appointment time per the website. The next morning when we had not heard from them, we called and they said they had no work order from AHS and even if they did they were too busy to get to us for days and days.
We are elderly people and my husband is a disabled veteran. To wait for days in the cold was not acceptable so we called a local servicer and they fixed it the same day. To date, weeks after, we have never heard from any servicer through AHS... no call, no appointment, no nothing. And when we contacted them to reimburse us for the work and point out that the assigned contractor was unavailable to do the work, they told us it was all our fault and they would not reimburse anything at all. In my opinion their "warranty" is a total fraud.

Contracted technician showed up on 1/4/2015 to look at my Maytag washer that I reported as becoming very noisy and coming up with what appeared to be unbalance codes and stopping all too often. Contractor made some adjustments and was trying to say that it would be ok but I then reminded him about the noise. He inspected the unit again and determined that the stator unit needed replacement and he would have to order the replacement. I then asked him about the bearing possibly needing replacement based on the noise and the more than evident dust/grime left on the floor. He insisted they were ok. So he then gave me a return ETA of 1/21.
He showed on this latter date and within minutes I heard him call to consult with another tech who informed him that he should order the bearings. Needless to say I was not happy to hear this. I then asked him to provide me an ETA on acquiring this additional part as soon as he found out. I never heard back from him. I emailed the local contractors office, United Services of Arizona, at the email address noted on his invoice (myrepair@live.com). This was sent on 1/26 and once again I’ve yet to hear from them. I then called the AHS number and spoke with ** and informed her of all the above. She assured me that she/they would get in contact with this contractor and follow up with me and provide an update. Well I regretfully report that I’ve yet to hear anything at all from anyone concerned.
I have been paying for this warranty service for years and this is the first time I call for their services and I am very disappointed. By the way I responded to the initial services survey that was emailed to me, but not until after the return visit, with all the above info and that obviously fell on deaf ears. So as you can see I’ve made more than enough attempts on getting someone at this company to respond but they have failed drastically. We have been without a properly operating washer for almost a month now and completely inoperable going on 2 weeks after the return visit on the 21st of this month as he left it in this state. Very disappointed to say the least and I will consider terminating this contract.

We have had a warranty with American Home Shield for the past three years. Our experience is that the quality of their service providers is very low. For instance, the company that they currently have assigned to us for a plumbing problem is rated F by the Better Business Bureau (BBB.org) and has similar reviews on Yelp. Our personal experience with the service provider they assigned us is awful. It took over a week for the company to come to service our plumbing issue. They came, took a picture of the part they needed to replace and then called back the following week to make an appointment another week out. On the day of the appointment they called after the scheduled start time to tell us that the repairman had called and they needed to reschedule for the following day.
On the following day the repairman himself called to say that he did not have the correct part and would have to reorder and won't be here for another 5 days. He also indicated that he had not called in the day before. So we were lied to. I called American Home Shield about the issue but their response was that there was nothing they could do since the part was on order. With as many negative reviews as this company has I believe there is something American Home Shield could do... They could not contract with this company in the future.

In December we decided to purchase a warranty for our rental home as we work out of the country and have our house on the market. We thought this would give us peace of mind and enhance the sale. Last week our tenants called and stated that the hot water heater wasn't working. As they have a special needs child we knew it had to be dealt with immediately. We called Home Shield and they sent a service technician out the next day (Friday). On Monday morning we called to find out the status and were told that the parts had been ordered and the technician would get back to us within 24 hours.
That evening the technicians phone had been disconnected so we called Home Shield back. Seems he no longer worked with them but they failed to inform us. So they sent out another technician on Wed. night at 8 pm. He spent approx. 3 mins there (in the rain) only to inform us that he didn't know when it happened and couldn't fix it without knowing exactly when it broke. Now Home Shield wants to send out a third technician, one who also doesn't do gas hot water heaters. They are also saying that the second tech indicated there was a lot of rust. The technician never told us this and neither did the first tech, and this is a whole new story. What is wrong with this company? For the third day in a row my husband is spending the entire day on the phone with these guys. It seems like they will do anything to get out of a contract.

So we request a service call online. And then one contractor response so quickly in that morning. Later, one man came and starts to say we should not deal with this issue (garage opener) with warranty because AHS won't cover that. Also, he has same issue last year when he purchased their home. I told him that I think AHS is a good company. They always solve our problems. I show him our problem for opener. It has the sound from the motor but the door couldn't be opened.
He called the AHS later and told them that we need to replace a new opener but AHS refused to replace it. The reason is we didn't take good care about our garage door??? We didn't use the right size of the motor and the door is too heavy??? What is that about?? We purchased our home 2 years ago. How could we know that the opener is not the right size for the door???? The opener already used for more than ten years... We live here just around 2 years... Everything works fine until last week. Isn't that warranty for to help us deal with this unexpected problems??

I purchased a Home Warranty from American Home Shield for my condo. In the summer I noticed that my furnace was spilling water on the floor while running the AC. I called AHS and they sent out a service technician who said the problem was caused by the evaporator coil icing over due to a "KINK" in the copper tubing between the unit outside unit and the coil. The technician also said the evaporator coil looked like new. That sounded ludicrous to me since the AC operated fine for weeks. Unfortunately, American Home Shield refused my claim.
I called an independent contractor who replace the coil and the unit has run fine since then. No supposed "KINK" in the copper tubing was repaired either. Bottom line, it cost me many months of paying my premium to AHS, a service fee to have their technician come out, and another $1000+ to have the evaporator coil replace. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Check with your utility companies who have similar plans. I purchased one from them and have been very happy with their service.

I called AHS again after a week from not hearing from them and they stated that due to tech notes the heat pump was not covered under my policy. I asked them to send another tech out for a second opinion. This tech came out and said the unit needed to be replace due to old age and did not agree with the previous tech diagnosis. He did state that it needed a compressor but the unit was old to repair. I called AHS and they stated that they were going to repair the unit even though it's going to cost me 580.00 out of pocket on top of the 75.00 service fee. I put 380.00 into the same heat pump 2 years ago. For the price that I keep paying to repair this old unit I could be getting answer one.
I have had AHS for over 8 years at 700.00 a year and on top of all the money I have paid I could've brought several heat pumps. At some point you would think that they would work with the customer and be willing to replace an older item if you have had several issues and two techs have confirmed the unit needs replacement. I am putting out several hundred dollars in repairs and I have no heat. I think they need to take into consideration all the money people pay through the years when making decisions. Now I am putting a band aid on a problem that eventually isn't going to run. After this issue I am going to cancel my warranty after all these years. I only kept it for the heat pump and now that I know the games they are going to play when it comes time to replace a unit. This warranty is a waste of money and I am very disappointed.

Their process was convoluted and inefficient. The contractor immediately recommended it being replaced but they were unable to actually replace it for 3-5 days. Ultimately I decided I just couldn't wait that long and opted for a cash out option. It took 2 days just to get the amount of that option, which only came to 1/5th of the actual cost for the work. I find it very hard to believe that they are able to replace a furnace at 1/5th of the cost with anything of remotely high quality. They are unable/unwilling to move quickly on critical issues and, in my opinion, they do that on purpose to force you into making decisions like I did, to keep my pipes from freezing and destroying my home, and take a much lower payout.

But then that's longer because normally, it's 24 hours. They needed a part, placed an order for the part but got the wrong part. Luckily the washer wasn't broken and was still usable. However, Sears is a big company and I expected more of them than of the smaller local repair companies so it wasn't great.
One of the best things was AHS sending me the renewal. I asked them for a discount and they offered that, which I didn't realize they had a separate price. The one glitch in the repair was the repair man had a hard time removing the microwave from our built in cabinet. He said if he removed it he could not guarantee putting it back in. So he left without it being fixed and it took another 5 days and several phone calls to get another person to come out and finally fix it. Once the second repairman came out he replaced the part in about 15 minutes. Overall we were somewhat satisfied with our experience but we wish it would have been faster.

I have had the AHS insurance for several years now. I have had multiple problems with my Heat/AC unit and have contact AHS for repair. 1st repair needed freon to totally fill the unit, this was 11 lbs. I thought this would fix it as the did not seem to see any additional issues. Roughly 6 months later it happens again, no cool/heat (package unit, heat strip). Now the CSV valve has gone out, complete fill of freon, another 11 lbs. Roughly 6 months after this repair no heat/cooling. Call them. Now they notice the coil has several leaks. The service tech that came to repair noted on the service document that I signed as the coil being non-repairable!
Several days later I received a call that they were going to attempt to fix the un-repairable coil. I spoke with both companies to see where the disconnect was as to why I was told it was un-repairable and now being repaired? Each company continued to point the finger at each other. Nevertheless the coil was repaired and another 11 lbs of freon placed into the unit. Guess what... this last problem was in May and now having issues again... Another 11 lbs of freon? What a joke and this company is only out to make money and not help!
I submitted a statement in somewhat of this manner to the BBB and received a response that had no concern for the customer service but that their company acted and completed all business correctly and nothing negative was completed. They advised that the contract clearly states they will on cover $10/lb of freon. Now I have not now or then said anything about the cost per pound of freon but when you are replacing 11 lbs of freon every 6 months and now debating to call now or cancel this membership. It is costing more money than it may be worth! I feel that they are out for your money and not to protect the consumer. This problem should have been resolved the first go around when 11 lbs of freon just disappeared! Unsatisfied Customer.

I requested service because I had some leak at my home. I did it online so it was easy. AHS emailed me back quickly and told me who is the provider that's going to come out and do the work. The contractor called me, came out and they fixed the leak. There was something that was busted and they ordered the part, came back and put the part in.

Another claim denied! The two recent experiences I had with American Home Shield were not good. In the fall they denied my claim to replace my furnace/AC (the unit was 19 years old). More recently they said they would not replace the sump pump because the AC unit drained into it too. All I have to say is read the contract carefully before signing up with this company. I have been a customer of AHS since I believe 2002 and in my opinion more often than not there is a reason why something is not covered. I had a leak underneath my shower so I submitted a claim, which was very easy because I could go to the AHS website and choose a series of drop-down menus to get the process started. AHS sent a contractor and he clarified with me what I thought the problem was. In the end, he did not repair it because it required a replacement of a whole shower pan. The problem is not that big so we left it alone. I'm in the process of selling the house, so I left a note for the buyer that it might be something that she would want to look at long term.
It would be a great improvement for AHS if it were easier to get to somebody to ask basic questions or a follow up on a claim because the pathway of getting through a person is not easy to find. I understand that part of the efficiency of the system is that they do a lot of the interface through the web, but they don't promote an easy access customer service helpline and I find it frustrating.

It was late to put on an emergency service and the guy they gave me then called and said he probably can't make it because he was sick. I finally got a call back the third time. The lady came out and said she had to upgrade if she did it and it will cost me some dollars out of my pocket. So I decide to do it in myself and not to call them back and told them I want to cash out.

One week ago our furnace made a loud squealing noise, was on, but blew no heat and we weren't able to shut it off. I called AHS and got someone to come out a day later. Two men from Weathervane h/c came out, went downstairs to our furnace, told me they didn't need me down there and proceeded to take off the blower. They told me that it needed to be replaced and it would take about two weeks as the furnace was no longer made and they would have to hunt up parts. The left and about 1 hour later I got a call from AHS stating that they were told by Weathervane that because he had never seen this kind of break, that we must have done it on purpose! While he was telling me this, the Weathervane guys showed up and the guy sent his helper in with the part (coward) and I said to have him come in as AHS was on the phone.
After a few minutes he did and between AHS and the Weathervane guys, they tried to say each other meant that it may not have been me... but for sure somebody! I was in tears! Never have I been so humiliated and had my or our character disparaged like that! I was given the opportunity to have a 2nd opinion and I took it. The 2nd guy came, had me watch him while he took things apart and took photos. He opened the heat exchanger and found THREE cracks! He said that if the first company had tried to replace the blower and we turned it on, we would have DIED from carbon monoxide poisoning! Babies and all! Also said that he could tell that the Weathervane guy didn't even check that part out... WHAT?!! For the last week, AHS has told me several different stories, promised to call us back, but never at any time did! I caught them in three different lies today alone!
Every time I spoke with them, I would call the company they said were going to put in a new furnace... the company never even heard from them! So for a week, in 12-degree weather, several of us, including young kids and a baby are getting sicker by the day, and still NOTHING is happening with regard to the heating! AHS either has no moral compass or they have a staff of ignorant people!

I contacted American Home Shield before Christmas to fix an electrical problem with my house. Lights were turning themselves on and off, indiscriminately at all hours of the day and night. Electric Express LLC came to my house the week before Christmas and stood in my foyer and looked at one switch and said he would have to get authorization to replace the switches. We counted the number of switches and he left in less than 5 minutes. He did not troubleshoot anything or look for control boxes, test the switches to see if they were operating properly, etc. He told me within two to three days I would be contacted. I was never contacted by either company and over two weeks transpired.
I called American Home Shield and the agent told me "the switches were operating correctly". I told him "I have owned this house over 8 years and this was only a recent problem". I explained to him that lights were waking me up at all hours of the night and I'd like a second opinion, as I had the impression from the Electric Express person that he would get authorization to repair and would replace the switches. The American Home Shield agent told me they would request a second opinion from another vendor and would contact me within the next 48 hours. Another week goes by and I contact American Home Shield to see what is going on and they state my customer file is being accessed by another agent and they are unable to do anything.
I asked to speak to a supervisor and none are available. I asked to be contacted by a supervisor and days go by with no supervisor call. Saturday 16 January I get a bill for $100 from American Home Shield with the explanation Service Fee Invoice from Electric Express LLC. I call American Home Shield and try to tell them that I don't see how I can owe a service fee when no service has been provided. I was never informed of the repair status by either company. I again asked to speak with a supervisor and all the supervisors were busy. I asked to hold till one was available and I'm told they can not allow me to do that. This appears to be a scam to me and I don't know what to do at this point.
Neither company appears to represent me and yet I have to pay them both? I can't speak to an American Home Shield supervisor. I contacted the Electric Express today Jan 18th and the person told me the switches were operating properly and that equipment was missing from my system? How would he know that when he never looked at anything? So why do lights go on and off in my house at will? Why did he give me the impression the switches needed to be replaced if they are operating properly? Why was I never contacted by either company as to the status of my claim? Why are supervisors never available? How can my customer file be unable to be accessed for days at a time? How can American Home Shield charge me monthly premiums, charge me for a "SERVICE" call, never update me on the status of my repair and never intend to provide any services?
I have since called the switch manufacturer and obtained information on replacement light switches. I went to Home Depot and purchased switches and spent an entire day replacing some of them myself. I have since cancelled my services with American Home Shield. I believe my $100 bill should be refunded/cancelled and any premiums that I have paid to American Home Shield should be refunded to me.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a washing machine. We filed the claim partially online. We set up the initial appointment online, and then it was through a representative after that once we had to go through several other steps. The representatives whom we spoke with were always very friendly and courteous.
The only problem we had was we had to call three different times to take a charge off. I owed $75 when somebody came out initially to look at my washing machine. Then American Home Shield made the choice to send out someone for a second opinion and they made it clear I did not owe them for that. But they accidentally charged me for it and I got a bill for it. Trying to have this corrected took three phone calls to three different representatives, who were all very friendly and helpful, but they didn't take the charge off correctly. So it took more effort than it should have, although everyone was very friendly.
The contractors sent by American Home Shield were also all very nice. They seemed to be tremendously knowledgeable. It turned out that the washing machine needed to be replaced rather than repaired, so we didn't go through the repair process but got another washer. Our heat pump broke on Christmas Eve. I knew repairs would be delayed - no problem. On 12/29 vendor arrived and diagnosed a leaking evaporator coil. He removed the coil and said he would attempt to repair and pressure test for 24 hours. I called the next day to follow-up. Vendor said they would call me back. No call. I called the next day - same response, same results. I called AHS. they left a message with the vendor. I called AHS back again and they said no call back from so AHS called again while I waited. Vendor advised the repair failed so they ordered a new part which was reason for delay but part was "on the truck" and should be available for install in next couple of days.
Two days later vendor called to schedule install and said they had REPAIRED my part and were ready to install -- 2 days out. I was not pleased and questioned vendor. They state they never advised AHS of replacement. I called AHS and got on conference call with Vendor and AHS. AHS transcript states replacement as repair not successful, but then they advised me that if vendor was ultimately able to repair then I would have to accept as it was warrantied for 90 days (This vendor repaired the same unit 5 months ago for a freon leak. Now I have to pay for freon again and hope that I don't have another leak after the 90 day warranty).
Anyway, I ask to speak to a Supervisor-none available will call in 24 hours. No call. I call again and request a Supervisor, none available, will call in 24 hours-no call. Vendor calls and says 10 minutes out. I can't make it there in that time frame -- too bad for me, 48 hours for next appointment - no timeframe either, just have to be available when they want to show up. I call AHS again, request Supervisor again, NONE working, will be 24 hours for call, 72 hours later no call. AHS seems to support vendor rather than their paying customer.
