If the one hour wait time every time you call isn't enough, being put on hold and reading off my contract isn't what I would call customer service. I can read my contract myself. Would be nice to have someone who can actually assist or make a decision. After 4 service calls for same a/c issue the faulty part was found and ordered to be replace and then I'm informed I will have to pay to have the ductwork modified to fit the same replacement part - $400! Seems if they are replacing a part they should cover what needs to be done to replace it. Every time I call all I get is the runaround. Will NOT be renewing my contract with them.

I have contacted AHS 3 times about a problem I have when I try to request service online. It always says my account needs attention and will not let me do anything. Every time I talk to them about this (which is VERY difficult) because I am always on hold for more than 30 minutes, they say there is no problem, but they do nothing about the website problem. I am very frustrated and would like someone to call me about my account ASAP.

The issue was with a leak at the water heater, which is in my attic. AHS contacted the local plumbing contractor who in turn immediately contacted me and scheduled a visit. The plumber arrived on time as promised and quickly dealt with the problem. He confirmed no major repairs were necessary. After dealing with the leak, he cleaned up the area. He was polite and respectful. When he departed I felt secure about the equipment he dealt with.

American Home Shield was the biggest waste of money I have ever spent. We recently purchased our first home and our real estate agent sold us on the home warranty in the case of any issues arising. We took the bait and are now regretting spending money that could have been spent on real contractors. When we first moved into the home we noticed a few small things that needed addressed. There were a few leaky fixtures and what seemed to be a blockage in the kitchen sink and bathtub. We were unaware of these issues because we didn't use the water prior to purchase more than seeing if it functioned. We made our first claim over 3 months ago. 2 companies and 5 stops later there has still been no work completed.

Each time a claim is submitted AHS calls a subcontractor to come assess the work and make a determination on whether or not the work will be covered. Be prepared to take days off because they never fix the work the first day no matter how detailed you are. Also be prepared to waste your days off for 15 minutes of consultation and a strong likelihood that work won't be completed. In my experience, the contractors also will most likely not be eager to work on a warranty claim.

The first plumbing company made three separate stops in which they broke a drain pipe and damaged my porcelain tub while failing to clear the aforementioned stoppage. The second company identified the stoppage as a serviceable drum trap that was most likely clogged. The tech was in and out of my house in about 10 minutes and didn't seem eager to complete the work.

I got a call a day later from AHS letting me know that my claim could not be resolved as a missing part in the drain overflow "could" be causing the blockage and missing parts aren't covered under warranty. We now sit 3 months separated from our first call and have had to contact a plumbing service out of the warranty because we need work completed and to this point AHS has only created more issues than they have fixed. While I am sure that some people have found success in this, I have not seen the same success. I am a young home owner and was hoping this would provide some insurance in the case that issues would arise in our first home purchase. To this point I would not recommend a home warranty to any home owner and my plan will be to pass this word along to the many young teachers I work with that are searching for a home.

I have this ongoing issue with the dishwasher and it still hasn’t been resolved. We have American Home Shield's contractor come out six times and it's been a nightmare. The first two contractors that they sent were not reputable companies and had no business in being qualified to even change a light bulb. They were horrible and told many untruths when they were reporting back to AHS on the problem with the dishwasher. So I'm still stuck with a dishwasher that doesn’t clean since March. I've submitted claims over the phone and the wait time was terrible. Their reps were fine but when asked to repair something for six times, they don’t actually listen to the concern. They made us wait because they have to elevate it up to somebody else.

AHS is a great product to have but unfortunately, when it doesn’t work, it just doesn’t. Also, we don’t know the reps that we're talking to. They're at some sort of call center. It's really frustrating because we have to tell the facts again, and again, and again. There’s no warm handover on calls. That’s something that AHS really need to improve on. If they want to get people to have this product, they really need to step up a little bit. It's hit or miss with them. When it works, it's great. But there's no institutional sort of continuity or recall. It's really frustrating to call for so many times and have to explain the story again. They need to replace the thing already.

It was something that they could’ve walked me over the phone, but because I didn’t know the equipment, I wouldn’t have known what to look and ask for. We’ve been with American Home Shield for years, and this is the first time that I have to do these things on my own so I’m still learning. We filed the claims online, and then they sent us service and sent us emails, calling us who is gonna come out and service the parts. We ended up having to have a whole appliance replaced, and that was all done via online. The contractors were awesome and everything went really smoothly. Everybody that AHS has sent out is real good, trustworthy, clean, and arrive within the windows that they say. I've been very pleased with who they sent.

Moreover, claim submission was really quick, simple, and few steps on the computer - I can just log in and as long as I know my phone number and zip code, it takes me right to my account. I had to have a broken pipe replaced. The AHS contractor did a fine job in finally repairing it, but I had to be cautious here because I said I would never let that company into my home again. I made it very clear when the serviceman came in that I wasn’t happy because they literally ripped me off years ago in the same area. The repair was $220 and they said they could do several things and got it to $1110. To replace a two-foot section of copper pipe, they did the band aid approach up to $1200 dollars. When the serviceman opened the wall up, he got in there and asked who did the repair. I said they did and he said that it's horrible. So I would never recommend this company to anybody ever. But the serviceman was very good and got it fixed.

The first time I called AHS was on May 30th for my washer and dishwasher. The latch on my dishwasher doesn't close and the only thing that was wrong with my washer was leaking from the bottom, which I thought was just the tub or a loose hose. Since then, the contractor has ordered parts, came back, can't fix, or didn't have the right tools. I recently called them this morning again to find out what's going on and another part had to be ordered. Now they told me it'll be Friday before they can come back out and look at the washer and dishwasher. It's horrible!

This contractor seemed to be very inexperienced. He said he can't get it done and needed another wrench. The last time he came out, two other guys came out with him and they still couldn't fix my washer. Then he said he had to order another part. He fixed the latch on the dishwasher but it still didn't work. So now he's telling me that he has to order a circuit board. It looks like every time he comes out, he breaks something because he's always beating on my appliances and he has to order another part. Right now, my washer is in parts on the floor in the laundry room. Both the tub and the agitator are out.

I've talked to AHS several times, but they told me that all I could do is wait for the part. It's really disturbing and and I'm not pleased with it at all. When I talk with the reps over the phone, it's a different one each time. The first one that I complained to said that maybe it wasn't cost-effective for the contractor to keep ordering parts, and I thought that was a good summation. The next rep that I talked told me that this issue will be sent to the department that hires the contractors. I was supposed to hear from them, but no one ever called me back. That's why I called back today. I said if they don't get anything done by Friday, I'm going to see if I can get them to change contractors.

Before this, the service was great. I had a problem with the oven and the contractor came and fixed it in a couple of days. Then we had problems with our air conditioner and the contractor came and repaired it too. It's just this particular contractor that AHS sent out. I recommended AHS to one of my sisters and I called her today and told her I'm not having a good experience.

I recently had a major component of my home's central air conditioning fail. The contractor assigned by AHS (Stockdale Service) was able to come out and diagnose the problem the next day, and repair it by week's end (because they had to order the part). The contractor educated me and helped me. While I know that my air conditioning system is aged and becoming obsolete, it is good to know that AHS is partnering with people with solid know-how to work through this. Eventually, when the system needs replacing entirely, I know that AHS will support this if it be the recommendation of the diagnosing contractor.

I have been an AHS customer since 1999. I have tolerated having to be on hold sometimes up to 1 hr and 10 minutes just to speak with a customer service rep because they have no ability via their online customer portal or via their website to email anything. I will be cancelling my home warranty with them ASAP after my last experience.

Contractor assigned comes out to my house for a water leak that initially we thought was a slab leak due to water seeping from below flooring and under walls. I saw them at street prior to coming in opening up 1 of my 2 metal meter plates and turning off valve. It was determined my air conditioner condenser line was clogged in sub basin of floor under house.

My plumber unclogged leak and left. Unfortunately, damage was already done and I have $50k in water damage to floors throughout house. In the week after they came, I noticed that my sprinklers would not come on. Could not resolve issue at panel, so called a sprinkler repair contractor. Paid a $120 service fee for them to be there for 1 hour and 30 min. prior to deciphering that my valve for water to my sprinkler had been turned off. I was livid. I paid sprinkler repair company and immediately called My Plumber to report what had happened and that I need to be reimbursed for their incompetence.

After 3 calls, I never got put through to a supervisor. Instead, the technician responded to me who was of course defensive, denied any wrongdoing and said hell no he was not accountable and that he did not turn off any valve. Then hung up on me. I resorted to calling AHS because they hire the contractors they outsource and thought I would get them to manage the issue. After 5 phone calls into customer service, over 10 hrs. of wasted time on the phone, talking with 2 supervisors and getting told the problem would be handed over to contractor relations to address directly with the company, AHS tells me that I must handle the issue directly with the company and there is nothing they can or will do.

My plumber "thought" they turned off my water. They didn't. They turned off my sprinkler. Worse yet, upon their departure they didn't turn back on what they turned off. How was I as the homeowner supposed to know what they did or didn't do. They should be accountable. Isn't that why they have insurance if they don't pay it out of pocket?

How can a home warranty company that assigns contractors to their clients not hold the contractors accountable for doing a competent job! Absolutely horrible customer service. Zero accountability. Zero ability to bypass the normal customer service procedures for pre-existing work orders or to have the ability to speak with a supervisor. They state that there is no recourse for me as the homeowner and I just have to deal directly with the company that they hired. Unacceptable. After 16 years, I will happily take my business elsewhere to another HW company. AHS is overpriced anyway and my deductible and monthly fee just keeps going up monthly. Steer clear of this company-it is evident they don't value their customers.

After paying AHS for 5+years, I had a problem with a microwave. The repair company made multiple visits and finally took the unit. I was selling the house and the microwave was the only holdup. Repeated calls to AHS and the repair company resulted in promises that parts had been ordered. At the two month mark, I went out and bought a microwave. A week later the repair company called and said the original unit was ready. I told them to keep it. AHS wouldn't reimburse me for the new microwave, although I have the right to "appeal" their decision.

After the microwave incident, the central A/C went out. The service company diagnosed it as a bad compressor. Covered, so no problem, right? Wrong. AHS will pay to replace the compressor, on a 21 year old unit, but I would have to pay nearly $1,400 to have the coil cleaned and for freon. What a joke! I'm cancelling coverage and filing a complaint with the Georgia Consumer Protection Unit as well as the BBB.

My clothes dryer no longer works, and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield in May but it has still not be taken care of to this day. I spoke to their reps and they've been very helpful. However, it has not been a pleasant experience overall. As a matter fact, I asked them to give me the complaints department and the P.O. Box because I plan on submitting an email as well as mailing it to Iowa.

One of the servicemen said that the issue was that Home Shield keeps ordering defective used parts. They’re doing everything they can to not replace the dryer. The same thing happened with my microwave. I called it in and the guy came out and said nothing was wrong with it. I kept saying that something was wrong with it. The microwave caught on fire a month later, so they replaced it.

Sears is the company responsible for fixing the Whirlpool appliance and I had three repairmen come here. The first gentleman tried to fix it but couldn’t. They ordered a part and when it came, the second gentleman came to fix it. I used the dryer three days later and it still didn’t work. The dryer doesn’t turn off. I turned it off and left my house. The next morning, the dryer was still going. I was appalled because my child is in the house with a dryer that continuously goes. The last gentleman that came in said the parts are defective, so he ordered another part. The part came in, the gentleman came back, and it’s still not working. I don’t know what else to do besides hire an attorney to get what I’m supposed to get. I pay for service, and they really don’t care so I'm very dissatisfied.

We’ve had plumbing, air conditioning, appliances, refrigerator, and stove issues one time and they’ve all been repaired like new. We were able to purchase a new piece as well.

Our freezer went off so I filed a claim online to American Home Shield and it was a very, very simple process. The contractor was phenomenal. He was very knowledgeable and very professional. He called before he arrived and his performance was great. He explained exactly what was going on. He did not solve the problem at first but he was quick to return to the house and fixed the problem. And after that, everything was good. It has been a great service provided by the contractor.

I am a customer of American Home Shield for two properties and have always been happy with them. It was easy the last time I submitted a claim with them. The contractor they sent was very professional and efficient and got the job done. I appreciate AHS being the same every time that I experience a problem. I've done different claims with them before and it's always the same process. It's comforting knowing what to expect and when to expect it. Overall, AHS is efficient and concerned about my welfare.

Anything that breaks in my home affects my everyday living. So it is critical that I'm able to get a representative and a vendor and an appointment scheduled. American Home Shield does that for me. They're connected to some very professional vendors specifically, Sears and Honest Appliances, and I'm very pleased with the vendors that are provided. They arrive at the scheduled time. They explain things to me and give me a helpful hint. The repairs in general are done to satisfaction, where I don't have to call back with the same issue. I had one bad experience and asked that they not send that company back and I haven't had any further problems. I also like the fact that the rate didn't increase for a very long time. And when it increased, it was only a couple of cents or maybe a dollar. The rate is very affordable and it's a good service.

American Home Shield has two ways to submit a claim. You can either call or do it through their website, but it's very easy. They give you a text message confirmation if you want it or an email confirmation of what company is coming out and their phone number, and they will be contacting you within one to three business days. AHS has very friendly customer service and an easy-to-use website. My last claim was for my heating furnace which wasn't staying on. They sent a guy out, found out what the problem was and within a week, the part was fixed and everything was working. The contractor was in and out about a half hour, and it seemed like he knew what he was doing.

Our AC unit has been broken for ONE MONTH now. It took 11 days to get a technician to and 12 more days to get the part we needed. The part we received didn't work and now it is 8 days later and still nothing has happened. We are still without AC and it's 85 degrees in the house. My husband and I have made several phone calls and spent dozens of hours on hold, only to be told there is nothing that can be done. There are no managers on duty to speak to and the customer service reps have ZERO authority to do anything. They can only offer for someone to call back but no one EVER calls back. We will be contacting our attorney tomorrow.

After finding out it will be a week until someone could even come we called to see if there was any other contractor available to use. We had already talked to an out of network contractor who could fix it that day since it's 100 degrees out and I have young kids. Well after sitting on hold for 2 HOURS they said "No" and hung up. Now we finally got that person out after a week and now it's 7-10 more days to fix it. It's unacceptable. We've had them fix our fridge twice now in a year. Same thing keeps breaking. That always takes weeks as well. Really just not impressed. As soon as our a/c is fixed I'm cancelling this service. Such a waste. Currently on hold still as I type this going on 36 min... The irony is I keep hearing "Your call is important to us".

We had a contractor given by AHS come out to our home only to tell us we had to call a different contractor to get the problem resolved, after they charged us the $75 fee. We spoke with an AHS representative on the phone, explained the issue we were having and they said if we corrected the problem that the contractor stated was the issue when he came out and we were still having a problem AHS would send someone else out to fix it. We have since corrected the "original problem" as stated by the first contractor and are still having the same issue. After jumping on the phone again with a different AHS representative and explaining to them the problem they created a new Service Request. We were so excited that this issue would finally be corrected, until it came to the appointment time. AHS sent out the same contractor and we got the same result as the first time, after another $75 was charged to us.

We are very disappointed with AHS, the process you have to go through to get something fixed, and the amount of time they put you on hold when you try to call them and speak to a customer service representative. Each time you call you get a different representative and they tell you a different story. I am very disappointed in the way this company operates, it has been a huge waste of time for both myself and my husband, and we are throwing money away on unsuccessful service calls instead of actually just fixing the issue. I was forced to get this coverage when we bought our new house, but never again will I make that mistake. "If you want something done right, do it yourself."

I am VERY dissatisfied with my most recent experience with AHS. Our hot water heater started leaking about a month ago. I contacted AHS, they sent a Tech out, I paid my deductible of $125.00 and the Tech replaced a pipe. I mentioned that the unit is 16 years old and probably needs to be replaced, but I was assured a new pipe was all that was needed. A month or so later, I go down in my basement, and there is water everywhere - the water heater is leaking AGAIN. Went thru the same process as before, a different company was sent out and I was told the unit needed to be replaced - DUH! I was also told that I would have almost $600.00 in out of pocket expenses. Why I have been paying for this warranty faithfully every month for the last 3 years! I tried to call AHS to get an itemized list of these costs that were not covered under my warranty. When I called, I was on hold for an hour and 40 minutes!

Needless to say, I was livid! To make a long story short, I did get the itemized list and one of the things on that list was a drip pan which was going to cost me $140.00. I went to Home Depot and the most expensive pan there was $30.00. I knew then that I was being ripped off! I was offered a "Cash in Lieu" option because the tank that I currently have (65 gallon) they no longer carry and they replace "like for like" as I was told. We decided to go with that option. We hired our own plumber and purchased a unit and paid for it out of pocket. I called AHS about a week later to follow up on the CIL and was on hold for 45 minutes! When I finally talked to someone, I was told the most I would be reimbursed for was $376.66. WHAT??? When I just paid 5x that much... I'm done!

I have worked with Home Shield from the perspective of a contractor, and because of this I would NEVER sign up or recommend their "services". While there is some calls that we ran successfully with no hang-ups, that is not the norm. The first issue arises when discussing with the homeowner what Home Shield would or would not cover. The homeowner was not very informed about their own policies, which made us as the contractor look like the bad guy right off the bat. After that (sometimes uncomfortable) discussion, it took a half hour or more to reach someone at Home Shield to be authorized to do the work. The people who answer did not generally have a clue what we were trying to accomplish for the homeowner, so they would deny authorization. This meant that the homeowner was responsible for the entire cost of service, once again we looked like the bad guy in the situation.

So before we even began the job we had wasted in upwards of an hour explaining policy to Home Shield customers, and sitting on the phone trying to get approval to do the work. This was not only a frustrating waste of unpaid time for our technicians, it was equally frustrating to the customer who was expecting to have their issue resolved and covered by Home Shield! Occasionally the homeowner would then contact Home Shield independently and actually get them to cover the service call after the job has been completed. We were always glad to hear that for the sake of the homeowners, but that also creates a bookkeeping nightmare for our office.

Aside from all of this, I was amazed at how little cost this company actually covers. The customer's deductible is anywhere from $50-$100 dollars. So for all the trouble, you are only saving $20-$70 dollars!! Please keep your hard earned money and let local companies provide your service needs directly. We strive to meet and exceed our customers' needs and expectations, WITHOUT the runaround.

WE JUST HAD 4TH OF JULY AND I HAVE HAD NO AIR CONDITIONING SINCE APRIL. I have called American Home Shield about 25 times in the last 3 months. If I am not on hold for 20-30 minutes and do get a human being, it will be a robotic entity that can do nothing, and I mean not the simplest requests beyond take your service call.

I open my online account, but I can't make a service call online because it says (!) BIG EXCLAMATION POINT - PAST DUE PREMIUM. During one of my talks with a service rep. I was told to call my mortgage bank. Ok I did that and the bank says, "We pay that out on the first of the month." They sent me my papers to prove it. So next time I call AHS and complain, the service rep tells me I am caught up on payments. I ask why the online account is wrong. "Don't know." I ask her to notify a supervisor. I am told, "I can't do anything about that." So I ask "What should I do?" She repeats... "Wait for it... I can't do anything about that." So I say, "Listen carefully, what should I do, not you." So I get the email for the web support people to tell them about their error. This company wants customers to notify other departments about errors vs. fixing it themselves.

So I send out an email and 3 weeks later... my account still says PAST DUE PREMIUM with a BIG EXCLAMATION POINT. On to the service. When you call AHS they are given 2 business days to contact a company to fix your broken appliance. Once the contractor gets their notice, they have 3 business days to contact you. Once you are contacted, there can be several more days (3-5 for me) to schedule an appointment. Do you see what I am pointing out? Each time I called about my AC not working, I fail to get a call from the contractor. I check my online account and see the contractor has been (unable to contact customer).

Now I have a cell phone like everybody else and they all have a log of calls missed or received, just all possible calls. No calls attempted to my phone. So I call AHS and they cheerfully tell me they will call the contractor. I say, "You can try, but they don't answer phones. Not even to take new business. I tried." Who do they hire for contractors? I think the business that can't retain a customer base. I really do.

The first time Total Air Care came out the guy found burnt out wiring, a bad valve, and bad capacitor. He replaced the wiring and a capacitor. That was good for about two days of using the AC. Called again and same company comes out, new technician and this guy says I am low on coolant. Hmmm never happened before. He adds a pound and leaves. No leak test just puts it in there. Third time same company comes out - a different technician says the unit is totally out of coolant. Can't fix now, will have to come back later. I never heard from them until I called AHS a few times because one call just won't do it.

This review is getting long, but here is the important point. I HAVE HAD NO WORKING AC SINCE APRIL AND NOW IT IS THE HEART OF SUMMER HERE IN Florida. How does a company manage to do this? Easy. If calling in results in a 25-minute hold. If contractors won't fix your appliance properly, what can you do? The customer had no leverage. All you can do is call and cry or leave a bad review on sites like this.

GO LOOK AT THE AHS FACEBOOK PAGE BEFORE YOU SIGN UP FOR SERVICE. Let me run some numbers for you... $50 a month for service from AHS, $75 for any service call. Forget that $45 they put there, you will never get that. Every call will be $75. They will pay the first $10 for every pound of freon for AC repair - you will pay $65 for every pound. They will get your stuff fixed unless... it is something that commonly breaks. Your fridge icemaker? NO. Your knob on the washer? NO. The clock on your stove? NO. You see? They make a profit on this - on your money.

I wish I had a positive review to leave here. Wish I could say they helped me out. I feel like I need to notify people about the truth. Go read some of the reviews here... Reviews where the customer didn't get their stuff fixed but leaves 5 stars anyway. Reviews where stuff wasn't covered but 5 stars review??? Review where I sat on hold for x minutes but 5-star review??? I will be happy to revise this review when I am not sitting in a puddle of my own sweat. Ball is in your court AHS.

I have been with American Home Shield for over 5 years. I have utilized them about 6 times. Pay close attention to your contract because there a several things that are not covered. Recently I had a problem with my air conditioner unit. They sent a technician out who gave me a receipt indicating what was wrong with the unit. AHS sent another technician who added several things that needed to be fixed that the first technician did not find. Well, the second technician said that AHS said I had to pay them another $75.00. I was on the hold for approximately 45 minutes before I spoke with a customer service representative to get that taken care of. The second technician came out and AHS told me I had to pay $700 out of pocket because there were items that were not covered by my contract.

The technicians came out (3) and stated that the fan they installed broke and they had to contact American Home Shield but I had to pay the $700 but they did not even finish the work. My unit has been running for more than a week which means my electricity bill is going to be outrageous. Whatever they did caused my temperature control not to work so I can't turn the unit off. After almost a week without any communication I called AHS to be told that they had a new diagnostic. It's no telling how much more out of pocket I will have to pay. I called them and asked about the company because I didn't feel they were trustworthy. AHS will not listen to any complaints you give them concerning who they send out. It's going to be you against AHS and whoever the technicians are.

The time before this, I called because my oven was taking a long to reach the preset temperature. I called the technician came out and said I needed a new heating element. This was about 3 weeks before Thanksgiving. The technician replaced the heating element and my stove would not come on at all. After calling them several time, AHS ordered me a new stove a couple of days before Thanksgiving. I would not recommend them. You would be better off to put $51.99 a month in a household account and when something breaks down go to your account. I think that is what I am going to start doing.

I had left the door open to where the water heater is and he went ahead and diagnosed it. By the time I arrived, he knew exactly what was going on and what the repair was. Then he replaced what needs to be replaced and then protect it so that no more water could get in. He explained things well and made me feel comfortable. When you pay for something it's appropriate that you should get what is agreed upon. We have not. Reported problems with our AC unit on or about June 15th. It's July 5th and we STILL don't have the issue fixed. We've been on hold with them multiple times for over 40 minutes - HOLD (all the while listening to a recording tell us that our call is valuable to them. Sure doesn't seem so). They've told us on more than one occasion that the service tech AHS subbed the work to hadn't done the appropriate paperwork.

All the while we have copies of said paperwork that magically appeared on their computers once we told them we had copies. It's a world class run-around if you need service for anything. Any time we actually ARE able to connect with these people, we are put on perma-hold again. IF they have service metrics, it's clear they don't pay attention to them. They are a monumental waste of time. Also - be VERY careful if you EVER decide to sign up for service. Read the small print. You'll find that, on most new agreements, they DON'T cover replacement costs for some of the more expensive items in your home.

Our most recent claim with American Home Shield went good, but we've had a lot of negative experience with them. I tried to submit a claim over the phone before but they told me immediately I had to do an email. It aggravated me because with email, there's a response, “You have no other recourse. Goodbye.” That was the end of it. I never got the opportunity to speak to somebody. Our big issue has been with the plumbing side of the house where we have a leak and we have to turn the water off in our house. It takes them five days to get a plumber out and it cost me about $800 out of my pocket because I couldn’t wait and my family did not have water in the house. I put in a couple of claims against it saying I didn't think that was fair, and they told me, “Too bad because you went out of policy.” I'm like, “But I went out of policy because you didn’t expedite the problem that we had, which was a leak in our home.”

I wish that American Home Shield would have been a little more understanding of my family’s situation. One of the things that bothered me was their customer service rep after they told me on the phone, “You should’ve gotten a hotel.” I go, “That’s unfair for you to say that to me because getting a hotel would've cost me money.” So all the more I've been angry about it that I want my money back, but I can't do anything because they keep throwing the contract to my face saying, “Too bad.” I felt like I had no rights as a customer. I sell software, so for me, everything’s about customer satisfaction. Also, my wife’s a realtor and she’s afraid to recommend AHS as a product for her people that are buying homes because she doesn’t want them to be treated like garbage and then have them call her and go, “What the hell did you recommend me to?”

I couldn’t get through on the internet as well because they didn’t recognize me, but yet I get an email from them all the time, so I have no clue why. I finally got straightened out and it turned out to be a defective part they put in. They got five different washers out of the washing machine and then it went down again with the same problem.

The first contractor that was out was a total idiot and I was very disappointed. There was one day that he didn’t show up. The other time he was supposed to be in the 4-hour time zone, and he came about two minutes left at 7:00 o’clock at night. Then they had another contractor come out because the original one was away on some family business. I could never get the first one to come out, it was impossible. But we finally got him here and he came.

And this all happens over holidays or weekends, so it just drags on. A new one came out and he diagnosed the problem as the same thing. It was just replaced. Then I finally got notification from American Home Shield that the part is obsolete and they’re gonna replace the washing machine. I had a young lady on the phone and she was fabulous. I would never have that if it wasn’t for her. I reported this all by phone verbally to American Home Shield and let them know how I felt. Around 2:30 the "technician" showed up with no apology, no excuse and was quite rude. I had 4 separate leaks happening. He said he fixed two, the next one he spent an hour on the phone with his boss resulting in him being too nervous to try to fix it and break it, and the 4th and largest leak I was told was too difficult to get to. "That was it," he said.

After leaving, I googled the contractor that AHS hired to find out that they are one of the poorest rated plumbers in our area with tons of bad reviews. I called AHS and let them know what happened and they dispatched another plumber who never contacted me in the following days. One leak was so bad that I hired my own plumber to fix it. Once there my own plumber discovered that the two leaks the AHS contractor said he fixed were still leaking and never fixed. So I missed an entire day of work to have NOTHING fixed and AHS is still attempting to collect their $75 service fee. I am now disputing the fee but assume they will not correct this situation as I have now spoken with two reps who have directed me to supervisors who will not return my calls. DO NOT USE AHS. The frustration of dealing with them and their unprofessional and inexperienced contractors is NOT worth it.

My last experience was great - the contractor (Kevin from Miss Appliance) was actually early, very helpful, knowledgeable, diagnosed my appliance almost immediately, and got the replacement ordered. However, to get to this contractor, we needed to deal with 2 others (including one from his same company), who either diagnosed but didn't code correctly to fix or claimed they couldn't find an issue, when water was pouring out the bottom of my washer. We were without a washer for 2 months while people paraded in & out without fixing it, before we got to someone who could/would.

I called a local air conditioning company to do a maintenance on my A/C and the person they sent told me that there's water up in my attic and that the Freon in my A/C unit was low which was dangerous. I called AHS and they sent a contractor here who said that the Freon was fine and that the moisture the local person found in the attic was just evaporation from rain from the roof and it was on the wall not on the ground. The contractor took pictures of it and showed it to me. So I was very happy to find out that I didn't need a new air conditioning unit which the local person was trying to sell me. It's certainly worth the extra $125 to know what was going on and not having to buy a new unit. In the long run, it saved me a lot of money and I was pleased with the company AHS sent. It’s been a month and the air conditioner is working fine. I’m so thankful that I’ve got a good company like AHS to back me. I've already recommended them to three neighbors.

But I did file a claim earlier this year for a heating issue with my HVAC system and I was very pleased. I didn't have any problems with the service at all. The businesses that AHS deal with are reputable. The only thing is that they've gone up on their price for this upcoming year. The contractor was very knowledgeable and informative. With the whole refrigerant policy that they have, it's weird that I still have to pay out of pocket for the freon. They have a dealer and they only pay for $10 of each pound and the stuff is $45 a pound. Also, AHS don’t pay very much - they pay 20 bucks out of $100 worth. He could have just pieced it together but he went to the hardware store and got a part. It was only a couple of dollars, so that it was done right. In every case that I've dealt with them they've fixed the problem and did it correctly. I've had very positive experiences with other contractors last year. I was told by this particular company that they can only schedule five days in advance. We're going out of town and won't be back until later in the month, and the day they wanted to book me out wasn’t available. That’s not their fault, so it's fine but I hope I don’t get penalized by AHS because sometimes if you don’t keep an appointment, they penalize you. Additionally, this would be the third time that this particular company has come out, so I'm not sure if they're using the correct device. They're also trying to get me to add something to my watering system, which I don’t want, but I have the option to say no.

Also, I had a garbage problem in the beginning of March and AHS sent out a guy who worked very hard, but he was an alarmist and told me I had to dig up my sewer that went to the lateral sewer line. I had someone come out and give me a second opinion more recently, and he said my sewer was fine. It's old but it hasn’t collapsed as the other guy said so. Moreover, many years ago, I needed my ceiling fans fixed. I had to go out of the system and pay on my own. I tried to have AHS reimburse me and they wouldn't, although, part of that could have been my fault. I'm staying with AHS and I keep paying the yearly rate because I have some older appliances that one of these days will die on me, and I'm hoping AHS will cover them.

It took me nine weeks to get a washer and dryer fixed because American Home Shield sent the dumbest people on the planet out. First of all, they kept telling me the washer was overloaded. I said, "With one bath mat? I guess it's normal for a washer to jump all over the utility room." I complained about that and asked for another company to come. Then I complained again the next week and they kept telling me the same thing over and over. The first contractor couldn't fix the dryer because he kept ordering the wrong parts and wouldn't listen to me. I have a Bosch. A Bosch has a reset switch in it, but he told me that it didn't.

When I complained about them, American Home Shield did absolutely nothing about it except document it in my record. They did not pass it on to anybody or take any action on it when I requested a second party to come out and re-evaluate the washer and dryer. They had already handed it out to a company, and they could do no more for me until it was completed by that company, who in the end never completed it.

I finally got a decent man to come out there only after I gave AHS one on a survey for the vendor and American Home Shield. That somebody from American Home Shield finally called me and took some action on that. And then when I finally got somebody out there, there were two broken shock absorbers in the washer. The man that finally came out there said, "Ma'am, your dryer is fixed in about 30 seconds." And I said, "What did you do?" "I had this reset switch back here." I will never renew with AHS. They are the worst company in the world and they have no customer service. You can't even improve it because there is none that exists.

Our garage door was not opening properly and it turned out the electronic eye was not aligned properly. We called American Home Shield and they sent out a contractor. It took him a minute and it was fixed. It cost us 75 bucks for that so live and learn. But it was good, everything worked out fine and it's like brand new now. The contractor and his assistant were very nice people and that's the first time we've had them over the house to work on our garage. We had a problem with the garage door before where one of the springs broke and a young man came out and fixed it. It took him 30 minutes to have the whole thing fixed because when you get a broken spring in an automatic garage door, you can't replace one, you have to replace both sides at the same time so it's really expensive.

Sometimes it's hard to file a claim with American Home Shield because you have to talk to a robot and they never know what you're trying to say. So it takes about 15 minutes just to tell the automated teller what you want, they keep asking you questions and it takes forever to get a real person. That's the only downside to dealing with them. More and more of those automated services are coming up and it's poor customer service and you need to talk to a person sometimes to be able to understand what's going on. But with that aside, we're very satisfied and happy with their service. I've also talked with the reps in the past and they're always really nice and willing to help.

American Home Shield has very poor customer relationships and response times. I'm put on hold for at least 25 to 30 minutes--I almost wonder whether they're wishing I would go away--commonly to talk to anybody and the classic thing is, "Oh, were experiencing incredibly high call volume, right and we just can't talk to you right now. But if you'd like to go to our website which is..." and then they give the website. It starts to get to be a little bit much when you've heard it for the 10th time. What I do is put them on speaker phone and go about my duties for the rest of the day until somebody comes along the line.

They’d eventually come around to give you what you are owed, but you have to really work for it. You have to pay upfront to get somebody to come and agree that something is a problem for them to allow you to get what you're owed and that's very frustrating, especially when you've already had a repair person out there saying, "Yup, the dryer is dead or the washer is dead." And you know it's a covered item. That when they have their person come out which is then a week or two later to say exactly what you've already known, then they want to be the ones that decide what kind of model you're gonna get and they are the ones that provide it which is usually some cock rate discount price.

The last claim that we had was a dryer and they were going to provide a GE dryer which was fine as it was a covered item. However, GE dryers aren't very good, but anyhow they have to do what they have to do. When this GE dryer is gonna be delivered, the delivery person said, "Well, you'll have to take it off the truck." I have a bad back and I can't do that. So then they had to look around for another delivery vehicle and that took another four days. They then finally found another delivery vehicle but they wouldn't deliver GE, so they changed it to a Whirlpool dryer which is more expensive than the GE dryer. They go through all these tirades to save money but in reality they end up spending more money through all these calisthenics that they put themselves through.

Meanwhile, the place we have is a second home and we're not there all the time. We have to coordinate when we're gonna be there so that we can open the place up and have the delivery and the installation done. They can't tell us until the day before when they're gonna be there. The dryer arrived on a Thursday as planned, but it's damaged and dented. The guy that's delivering it said, "well you don't need to accept this. We'll just tell them to send you another one." I asked them when that's gonna be, and they told me two more weeks, and only that they've got an installer. The guy took pictures of the dented dryer, validated it, and authenticated the fact that it is damaged.

I asked them, "well the internal workings of it still work?" He says, "Well, in all likelihood yes." Then we’d have to accept this damaged deal because we're not gonna be out here in two weeks and we've already got an installer come in the following day. We've got all these people lined up to take care of their end of the bargain, and sent us damaged goods. So then I told them to put the dryer in. And while the installer put it in, the guy turned around and said, "Well you owe me $80. But I can try and get that through American Home Shield?" I told him while we paid AHS the $75 initially for the upfront thing which is what in the contract, we also have to pay the initial service charge and I didn't know why we're being charged again for that. He said, "well yeah that's a good point. I'll see what American Home Shield says."

Then another time, they replaced our pool heater that was dead. The pool people came by, started things up in the summer, and confirmed it. So I called American Home Shield as it was a covered item. They said, "well we're not gonna accept the fact that your people say your heater's dead. We have to have our persons come by and tell us that." So that's another two weeks before that person's able to come from Tulsa, Oklahoma, we're in Grand Lake Oklahoma, and that's about a two hour drive. Our pool people is 15 minutes away and they have been servicing ours for 20 years.

Then American Home Shield confirmed the claim and authorized that the pool heater gets replaced. That's what the contract's supposed to do. I told them that I have a pool heater that I can put in little match, everything that they need for this pool stuff that my pool people have. They said, "no, no, you can't use your pool heater, we're gonna send you one." So that's another two weeks. They eventually send the pool heater that is larger than the one we had before. And then to make things even worse, the propane line that went to the previous pool heater which was the normal size for that pool didn't fit.

Now because they sent the wrong pool heater, it had been the courtesy cost to get the propane line fixed. I called AHS a number of times, went back and forth with them instead this is your problem. In fact, their pool guy openly stated they sent a pool heater that's far bigger than what we need and that's the reason why we needed a larger propane line. We then had to incur the cost of a plumber to come out which was another two or three weeks. They wouldn't pay for the plumber nor the new pool propane line.

Prior that, they've placed three toilets. They've done their job, but having to go through to get things done is unbelievable. This place on Grand Lake is about 30 years old and some of the toilets weren't cycling properly. So we had a plumber came by, tried to jury rig and work with them. Finally, he threw his hands up in the air and said, "You need new toilets." We incurred about an $800 water bill with the one had been leaking in the period of one month because we were gone and that toilet continued to run. AHS finally told me that they’ll get me a new toilet, and that was about another three weeks’ worth the work.

Then the other two toilets started to go in the same direction as well. The plumber came by and he agreed that they need to be replaced. But then AHS said, "Oh, we won't listen to your plumber. We have to have our plumber come out.” So again, another week down the road. Finally their plumber's able to come by and he agreed that the toilets didn't work. They’re old toilets and the mechanisms in them didn't even exist more, and he can't fix them anymore as well. AHS need to do two new toilets.

Then AHS told him that they’ve already replaced one toilet there. The guy told AHS that the place is a large facility and these people have six bathrooms in it. The other two toilets are no longer workable and need to be replaced. AHS asked the guy if he has any tpoilet on site. He then drove about 20 miles away to the warehouse, was able to get two toilets and put them in.

I don’t believe in warranties, but when I bought my place, the previous owner had American Home Shield and had two ancient furnaces and two air conditioners dating from the early ‘80s when the place was built. At the time I bought the house 12 years ago, my inspector said the furnace needed to be replaced upstairs. But American Home Shield said they were fine. So I brought my own furnace company that I've had for 25 years. They said the furnace needed to be replaced and so it was done. That made me feel good about American Home Shield so I kept it on.

But I've had lots of difficulties with my air conditioners and furnaces, and American Home Shield doesn't ever replace anything. They try to repair, but for a number of years now, I've had leaks in the Freon. Instead of fixing it, the technicians come and put Freon in. Then American Home Shield changed their policy and they charged me $300 when they put the Freon in. I did that several times, and this has gone on and on. The problem was the technicians came out for my typical spring situation where I needed Freon. They didn’t fix anything, but they put something in which was some sort of leak stop. I waited a while and then I called them back and said that this has been going on 12 years and that they needed to fix my equipment since both air conditioners leaked Freon.

American Home Shield sent somebody out and he checked. His diagnosis was that I needed a new piece of equipment in the upstairs furnace. American Home Shield said they would replace that but there was some additional work that wasn't covered, and that would be $300 in addition to the $75 they charge when they come out. Some years ago, it used to be $55 and then they changed it to $75. The other thing that the technician reported on the second visit was he was sensing leaks out in my ground behind my house where the pipe leads to the air conditioners with the Freon. He was getting leaks inside downstairs near the furnace, and he said there had been digging out there.

In between the technician's two visits, I had a fellow come in and clear out all the growth behind my house and the garage. He may have used it and dug a little bit. But the message I got from American Home Shield was, “We'll fix your upstairs evaporator coil. We'll replace that but it'll cost you $300 and we can't do anything about downstairs because there's been digging. Not covered.” So I had independent people come in to check on what American Home Shield was not covering.

I have not cancelled American Home Shield yet because if the independent contractors find that there's no damage done to the copper pipe and that I only have the usual leaks, then I'll be back to American Home Shield for another contest. I'm very disenchanted with them. When I needed something done and American Home Shield always farms it out to their various contractors. There are no contractors that said anything good about them. They said that I was never going to get anything replaced and that American Home Shield will only keep patching things. If I had to do it all over again, I would not have paid American Home Shield thousands of dollars over the last 12 years. It's been a terrible experience. It was frustrating and not worth the price.

I consider my most recent claim with American Home Shield a disaster, which is unusual for them. My husband doesn’t know how to change a washer in a sink, so I have to have somebody. I had them out for the washing machine around the first part of June, because if I put in a load of clothes in it, it doesn’t spin out again when the washer stops. So I called, and the first company that I dealt with was Accord Appliance, had three visits from them and the same guy came every time. He wasn’t my personal choice, but he got my $100. He set it over on the second spin and it spun out, but he could never get it to do it again, so he replaced the clutch and out he went. This happened again 2x thereafter and the same guy came back out, played with it, got it to spin again, stayed through another cycle, and when it didn’t spin again, he finally said he doesn't know what else to do with it. And out the door he went.

I called AHS and told them to send somebody who understands a Kenmore because the previous guy doesn’t know how to fix my Kenmore washing machine. The AHS rep was really nice and gave me Bear Creek. The guy came and he thinks it is a timer issue. His paperwork says that it could be timer getting stuck on the rinse/spin. In other words, it went all the way through the cycle. He said he'll try to get AHS to put in a new timer and since he has dealt with them before, he doesn't know if they'll do that or not. He said he'd give me a call if they won't okay it and advised me to call AHS to tell them that I want an authorized Kenmore repairman in order to get to this problem because he can't get it tucked up. He called me on a Sunday and told me that AHS will not give me a new timer. Although he can't positively say it's a timer, but in his years of experience, that’s what he thinks.

So I called AHS again and they gave me All City Appliance Repair. They called and the technician was here at 2:00 pm the same day they called. He was very nice and very knowledgeable but it wouldn't do it for him either and out he went. We had some health issues happening here at that time and I told my husband that I've exhausted myself with this now. For the first two and half weeks, I was taking my soaking wet clothes across the street at my neighbor's, washing and drying over there. The last guy showed me how to get the water out. So now I know how to get the water out, but I shouldn’t have to do that. I didn’t know how to handle this. AHS has always said in their ads that they'll either fix it or replace it, and that’s what my husband keeps saying. Where’s the fix it or replace it thing?

I'm not sure though if I really should be replacing it. Everything else seems to be working. It could just easily be the timer. I don’t know if the timer’s the most expensive thing in the washer but the repairman from Bear Creek felt that AHS wasn't going to replace it. I can't get it to go through the spin cycle and get the water completely out of there. I know how to figure that out and do that, but I shouldn’t have to do that. The washing machine should just go through the cycle. If I put the washer on, I shouldn’t have to get out of bed in 45 minutes and put it through another spin cycle. In summary, not all repair service companies are knowledgeable.

I had a water valve replaced on a washing machine. The claim process was very good. The technician came 30 minutes ahead of the scheduled time. He was very professional and explained to me what was happening. He had the part before he came so it took him 30 minutes to do his job. He reiterated that they don't make my model anymore. So, if they didn't get the parts in the future, there's no way they could get them and I understood that. It was an excellent experience. We have American Home Shield for quite a while now and most of the time, they respond quickly.

There was no problem during the installation of the garbage disposal. But it took a while to prove that the deductible had already been paid. Once it was done, there was no problem. Then for the sink faucet, we weren't sure what's the difference between a cash out and another term. So AHS processed it as a cash out when in reality, we wanted for them to do the work. What we assumed was a cash out was they would offer us $100 on a $150 unit and all we do is pay them $50. But a cash out for them is they just give $100 and then we're responsible for everything else. It was a terminology problem, but we're okay once we figured it out.

My latest claim with AHS was pleasant. Claim submission was easy and efficient. The contractor was very knowledgeable about the situation and resolved it quickly. I called in for my washing machine that I was working on, and had another washer in storage. He even checked that one too and made sure it was in working order. So, I got two machines fixed for one service call so that was good. I'm very satisfied with AHS.

I purchased a warranty through AHS and will be shopping for a new company. This is the first time using the service which is a nightmare. I've been waiting for 3 weeks to have my refrigerator repaired. They first sent out a company that was unable to fix it. They then sent out Sears who never look at the refrigerator because they said the note in their computer said it was not under warranty. The repairman attempted to contact AHS who after 15 minutes on hold told me they couldn't help me unless I paid for it. I have spent 3 days trying to get this problem resolve. The main issue is that you will be placed on hold for 45 minutes to an hour. Once you finally get through there's never a supervisor available. Right now, I've given up. AHS continues to tell me they're waiting for a diagnosis from Sears, who never looked at the refrigerator so they couldn't possibly know what the problem was.

They were very courteous, very knowledgeable, and took care of everything that needed to be done. However, we need to call them back because there's still a minor problem. The fan starts running and the compressor doesn’t kick in at the same time as the fan does, and it should be doing that.

I've been in Texas for more than a week without air conditioning put in to my house. It's easy to submit the claim with American Home Shield, but then, it took three days for the contractor to get on the site. And then, they had to come back twice before they realize that the little parts they were placing aren't the issue; it's the compressor. With that, it's going to take me until July to get the part and fix the AC, so it's frustrating.

The contractor has been as responsive as AHS to a great extent allowed, however, I'm not pleased with their initial analysis. As of last Friday, they learned that my compressor needed to be replaced. On Monday, they submitted the approval, and that night, they’re told that they are allowed to order the part. They then ordered the part on Tuesday. There are two angles for how they get it. There is a fast angle which would cost more money and a slow angle which cost less money. They were told to go to the slow road, so rather than having it fixed this week, I'll have it fixed by next week. In that sense, the problem is not the contractor - it's inventory and parts. In fact, the contractors were wearing an insignia and identified themselves. It's a professional company that came to the door so that part was a pleasing experience.

I've called to see what it would cost me to pay somebody to do the work and between the out of pockets and the two fees I paid for the contractor to show up, it would cost me $500 more, which is a substantial 50% savings, however, I'd be able to use two-thirds of my house now. To sum it up, my experience has not been positive.

There were some things caught in the motor which wasn’t allowing it to run properly. He was here probably for about an hour and was very good, professional and helpful in fixing our problem. He was also very clean that nothing was left behind. I felt very comfortable with him being in the house. We're very grateful to have the service because my husband is not a handyman. Their home warranty is worth the money. I recently filed a claim with them to have something repaired in my kitchen and it was very easy to do and it's been fine since the repair.

Unfortunately, the first contractor who came out assessed the problem but apparently, could not fix it. They had to send a second contractor and I had to take two different periods off work to get the problem fixed. I had no idea that the first contractor was not able to fix the problem till the second contractor came. Both of the contractors were very professional and nice and appeared to be knowledgeable in what they did. But I did not like the product that the second contractor wanted to install. So he asked me what product I would prefer, and I said, "Let's go to the store," to pick out another product, and so we did and that was fine.

There was a bit of a glitch in the first contract. I paid the first contractor just as my agreement states. When the second contractor came, he was aware that payment has been made. But American Home Shield contacted me to ask for payment and I didn't like that very much because I had already paid. They're investigating the matter.

With a newborn baby and a toddler in the house and temperatures pushing 100+ degrees, our upstairs air conditioning went out. We called American Home Shield since this is under our home warranty, and they contacted us relatively quickly to let us know they are backed up and are providing outside authorization. They provided us a detailed list of criteria we need to meet in order to get the outside authorization. Our HVAC service company met all the criteria and then spent two days trying to get through to American Home Shield as they required.

After finally getting through and providing all the required information, AHS left a message for my contractor the following morning letting him know they decided they wanted a second opinion. By now it had been 5 days without air conditioning in our house. I asked them to expedite this second opinion since this has been going on, and I was denied without any real explanation. The company requested the second opinion on a Friday before a holiday weekend and told me their contractor had until Tuesday (48 business hours) to come perform the inspection. They told me if their contractor couldn't come Tuesday (within their guidelines), then I could call them back and we could find another contractor.

I received a call today from their contractor that they wouldn't be out until Wednesday afternoon/evening, so I called AHS like they told me to, and now they are telling me Wednesday is actually the day that is within their guideline period, despite four different people confirming Tuesday was the day. All of this run-around is only happening in their attempt to save a buck on the cost of replacement of the A/C unit, the majority of which we will be paying out of pocket anyway.

I fully understand this is an insurance policy and they'd prefer not to pay out on it, but the fact that half a dozen representatives have read to me from the same script, all of them unwilling to stop and think critically about what it means for a newborn baby to try to sleep in a home that is 90 degrees, shows me that this is only about the money for them and not at all about the service to the customer. What a terrible disappointment this home warranty has turned out to be.

We have had a home warranty for years, but are stopping this service after this most recent experience my Mother-in-Law had. She is 79 years old. Her central air conditioning system stopped cooling and we called for an American Home Shield (AHS) Service Request. It should be noted that she lives in Florida and the outside temperature in the day time was 93 degrees when her A/C stopped cooling.

AHS called a local contractor, Burleson's A/C Service from Orlando, FL. It should be noted that AHS has a policy that a local contractor has up to 3 business days to respond to the call. So if you call on a Friday, it can take until the following Wednesday for them to show up. In this case it took two full days. The service rep found that the compressor was seized and said the freon had leaked out. He also told us that in addition to the service call trip charge (by AHS), she would have to buy 10.4 LBS of freon (not the old R22, but the new freon). This amounted to an additional $500.00. The service rep told her that if she paid for the freon that moment, it would speed up the repair. That was our second mistake. She paid the money ($625.00) up front. This was on Tuesday June 14, 2016.

From this point on, we had ZERO calls back from Burleson's or AHS unless we generated the call. All calls to AHS took a minimum of 20 minutes to get a live person. And Burleson's was busy as well and seemed as though they were ducking our repair. We called each day for an update on them "finding the parts". By Friday, June 17, 2016, we still had no word other than Burleson's telling us that their one parts "guy" had things going on in his personal life that kept him from working. This was unacceptable.

I then called around and found a new compressor IN ORLANDO that was available and contacted Burleson's to let them know we had found one. Still no word. At this point, and because we listened to the service rep whom had told us that if we paid for the freon upfront we would get faster service, we were not able to change contractors.

When we asked AHS about changing due to poor service from Burleson's they told us the three business day rule would start ALL OVER again with another company. So we were stuck with Burleson's. On Monday we called again and no word. On Tuesday, June 21st, a full 10 days since we had opened a ticket with AHS, we called Burleson's and they told us they "found the part". BUT, they could not install it until Friday June 24th.

Now a few years ago AHS told us that the elderly were protected in Florida and that services needed to be performed ASAP on residential A/C systems. Seems that went by the wayside. Burleson's had scheduled the service rep to arrive between 8AM and noon on that Friday for the install. Then on Friday am, called and said it would be between 9AM and 1PM. Guess what? The compressor installation guys showed up at nearly 5PM. They were nice installers and did what appeared to be a good job. But they also told us that all of the freon was still in the system (had not leaked out). They then told me that they had to put new freon in as the old was contaminated by the compressor. Sounded good I guess.

But I also recall a service call from Burleson's on our A/C unit and that service rep told us that the reason they charge $55.00 per pound for freon is to repay the feds for environmental issues due to the leaking of the freon. So since none leaked out this time, why charge so much? And AHS only covers $10 per pound charged. I found from other local contractors that they buy the stuff for $3.50 per pound. So the cost of having a "AHS Contract" along with the freon charge and trip charge basically paid for the repair. No savings here. And, AHS does not factor in the Florida heat and where a person can live for nearly two weeks as you cannot live in a house here without AC especially when 79 years old with health issues.

So the displacement costs for her along with the "AHS Contract" cost her the same if she had called a local company to come out and replace her ENTIRE INSIDE AND OUTSIDE SYSTEM. Needless to say why I have written this complaint and plant to upload this message to every network out there that can post a review. Unacceptable service AHS and BURLESON's. Shame on you both for jacking with the elderly.

We needed to have our existing air-conditioning system replaced in our home. The condenser, the feed line and the evaporator, the entire system was replaced. They got us a good deal. It's $4,800 until the applied discount, and the installation was great. From the time we started looking and made the arrangements via the American Home Shield website, it was six hours in total, and everything was done within four days. Good local company. It was a very good experience all the way around.

We've had other $75 service calls for maintenance of the heater and the air conditioning system, plumbing issues, leaks, and the contracted services that American Home Shield sends us were always great and very knowledgeable. They answer our questions. They always bring everything to do a full replacement, just in case. For our sink's food disposal for example, we had just a small noise in it but the guy bought a brand new one. It was a $250 food disposal and replaced it at $75. It's awesome.

We cannot reach anyone at AHS to answer an important question about our service request, completed online on a Friday night - the beginning of the weekend. After placing a request online and receiving confirmation details for a service provider with overwhelmingly bad reviews regarding service on yelp who is located nearly 300 miles away, I placed a call to the 24-hour service line. I held for 52 minutes for a representative to answer the line before I gave up and hung up.

A little additional detail - We live in Florida. On July 1 our a/c stopped working, meaning it's hot inside our home. We need a/c addressed on the weekend. The service provider assigned to us does not list weekend hours on website, is located about 300 miles away and receives overwhelmingly bad reviews online for shoddy or incompetent service. I need to speak with someone about securing a competent service provider to address a situation that could be a health hazard during the weekend.

I would be willing to give AHS the benefit of the doubt and give them more time to prove they can resolve a problem when needed, but this is a critical situation. Based on reviews of AHS and my attempt to reach them, my confidence in their service is on the fence at the moment. And I need a solution, I've paid for the warranty for three years. Now that I need help, I have not yet received it. By current appearances, I am not confident that I will.

Our AC went out Sunday afternoon, June 26th. We put in a call to American Home Shield. When we hadn't heard from anyone within 48 hours we attempted to call American Home Shield back. While we were on hold trying to reach them, someone from Total Air Care was actually trying to call through to schedule the appointment and we missed the call. They left a voice mail. When we called back within 5 minutes we were told they were closed for the day. The next morning we were finally able to reach someone from Total Air Care. The earliest appointment they had was for Friday (today). The technician arrived around 11:30 and was here about 15-20 minutes. She determined that there was a pin hole leak and the ac unit needed 2 pounds of Freon. She said she put some leak seal in the system to stop up the leak. She said the ac unit was now running fine and left.

At that point the temperature inside the house was 82 degrees. I set the thermostat on 76 degrees and left the house. When I returned two hours later the temperature was still in the 80s and the air coming out of the vents was only slightly cool. At that point we tried to call the technician back on the phone she had used to call us and confirm her arrival, but her phone was not receiving calls and would not go to voicemail. After being on hold for over a half an hour we finally reached a scheduler for Total Air Care named Tyler. We explained that it had now been almost three hours, the house wasn't cooling down, and asked that the technician be sent back out. He told us that was not possible, and a repair call would have to be rescheduled. Since this was on a Friday (today) before the 4th of July holiday weekend it was unacceptable for us to wait another 4 days to get our AC fixed.

When we asked to speak to a supervisor or manager concerning the issue, we were first told that there was no supervisor or manager there to speak to. When we pressed the issue Tyler admitted that there was a manager there, but that he was too busy to talk to us. When we said this was unacceptable customer service he said he would try and get someone in customer service that we could talk to. We were put on hold. When Tyler returned he said they were all busy and someone would call us back shortly. No one ever called us back. This evening, with the temperature in the house still not going down below 80 degrees, we attempted to contact American Home Shield.

After being on hold for over an hour we finally got a customer service representative. They said there was nothing they could do. We had to submit another request for repair, which would then to forwarded to Total Air Care, who would then schedule us for another repair visit That we might have to pay for!!! When we asked to speak to a manager or supervisor we were told there was no one we could talk to. When we asked if she would make a record of our concern and complaint for someone higher up to review, she said no one would see any notes that she was taking. We insisted she make a record of our complaint anyway. She also took a request for another service call to fix the ac correctly, which she informed us we might be responsible for.

We also called the customer service number for Total Air Care and requested that they call us at the earliest time possible when they open again on Tuesday, since they did not return our call today, so that we can get someone back out to complete the repairs to the ac unit. We have had a home warranty policy with American Home Shield for ten years. Any previous repair work has always been taken care of promptly and correctly. This is the first time that they have sent someone from Total Air Care for service we have requested. Before it was always someone from Piedmont Mechanical, and we never had problems like this with them. I hope we do not have to deal with Total Air Care after we get this mess straightened out, or we may need to find another home warranty company with better customer service.

Updated on 7/5/2016: I posted a review over the weekend of the experience I am going through trying to get my AC fixed through my American Home Shield warranty with a company they use - Total Air Care. The review was apparently posted or sent to American Home Shield. Yesterday morning I received a reply from American Home Shield. "Hello Bill, I am sorry to hear about this situation regarding your services. I value your feedback and the chance to resolve any issues that our customers may have. Thanks, DB."

I immediately replied privately to DB requesting help resolving the situation, since he/she asked for the chance to resolve the issue. Twenty-four hours later I still haven't heard back from DB about what we need to do to resolve the situation and get our AC fixed. In the meantime I called Total Air Care first thing this morning, rather than wait for them to get back to me, to see if they had received the referral from American Home Shield to come back out to fix the problem they failed to fix correctly the first time. I was told they could have someone come out in two days (on Thursday). I explained this was unacceptable because they failed to fix the problem last week and we would be almost another week without AC by then.

I requested to speak to a manager or supervisor. I was put on hold. After 20 minutes on hold I was disconnected. Since hold times for Total Air Care have been between 30 minutes and an hour each time we have tried to contact them I am now trying to call American Home Shield for help getting Total Air Care out earlier than Thursday. Hold time for American Home Shield has been similar to Total Air Care. I am on hold now with American Home Shield trying to get the assistance that DB offered but has failed to follow through on.

The guy said that the motor had gone out so he changed it. It took all of six minutes. When he left, my clothes were washing.

Their claims submission process was easy. Usually I would call to do so but the online way is much easier and quicker. I just click on it and I'm done. It’d be nice to streamline someone that’s not a provider currently, though. I had two things done by American Home Shield. One was an issue with my pool pump that broke. It wasn’t as smooth as the transaction before because the local pool place that I wanted to use was not one of their preferred people. I had to pay for everything out-of-pocket first and wait. There was a little confusion on what needed to be submitted to get reimbursed. It was a little bit above the ordeal, but it's not terrible. I’d recommend AHS. The cost benefit is of having them is definitely there. If I didn't have them, I'll pay a lot more money out-of-pocket with the issues they cover. That’s why I continue to keep AHS.

I called in a claim to American Home Shield about my pool. They couldn’t find anybody to fix it. And that’s the second time it has happened. They said I could get somebody to fix it and pay for it and under certain conditions, they would reimburse me. I got it fixed cheaper than their service call. I’m not happy that sometimes they can’t find somebody but I guess a lot of the contractors say they don’t want to deal with AHS.

My husband and I have been very pleased with American Home Shield. We've always gotten quick responses and not had any problem when we called. One of the things I've liked is they cover so much like electrical systems and refrigerator compressor problems. I usually call them to submit claims. Everything I've called them about, they have sent somebody out as soon as possible and it's not been a problem.

American Home Shield sent someone out promptly in my most recent claim for an electrical repairing and we got it done. It had to do with wired smoke alarms that start going off in the middle of the night. They got somebody out later in the next day who repaired them and tell me and show me some things needed to be done. The contractor was very knowledgeable and professional. The alarms worked since the repair and I didn’t have any problems. I would recommend American Home Shield and I have already recommended them to a sister as a matter of fact.

However, the contractor that they sent needs to have better time management. He came over late and then figured out that there was a part that needed to be ordered. The part was ordered and then he said he would come that Friday. He never came and never called. So then I called and that following Monday, he called and apologized that he had a family emergency. And then when he finally came over, it only took him literally 20 minutes to put it together. He could’ve just come over like he said, and it would have been done. But I had to wait an extra week for a part in my dryer to be fixed.

It was very good.

The gentlemen who came out for the repair were very professional. They came in and did their job. Came to an amount they said their guy could do it for since they wanted me to wait for 2 weeks for him to look at. I'm in SC... 99 degrees and humid. I opted to get my own guy so I wouldn't die. They approved my outside hvac guy but said they would only pay their cost of a guy to come fix compressor only. Got a check today for $4. Send receipts 3 times. This place should not be in business. My a/c just quit working in the middle of the night so I placed a service call with AHS. The AHS contractor couldn't come out until the next day and I couldn't allow my family to sleep in sweat so I called another contractor out who came within 30 minutes. Paid him $100 to tell me that my compressor was out, he said they "might be able to get me back up and running again by 2am if I paid an after-hours warehouse fee and the $1400 - $3900 it would cost to replace the unit depending on the warranty status. Who has $4k laying around, right? So we waited to see what the AHS contractor had to say and sure enough, he confirmed what I already knew. Here's the kicker... he said he wouldn't be able to fix it until maybe the following Wed. This is Friday which means I would have to wait 5 days in the South Texas scorching heat.

So here I am with the holiday weekend in front of me and a 95-degree indoor temperature. I'm out $175 so far and trying to decide if I want to cancel AHS and put that $80/month payment in the bank and just handle my own repairs that can get completed within a reasonable time or wait for them to come out on Wednesday and take the chance of them "deciding" that the whole thing was improperly installed to begin with so they aren't going to pay a dime. American Home Shield does not take care of their customers. They keep you on hold for over an hour just to upset you with the bad news that there's really nothing they can do. I'm very disappointed and will be canceling my service unless they can get my AC fixed within the next 24 hours.

When the cost of repairs exceeded the amount of copay the AHS came up with ridiculous reason to refuse the service - claimed that the HVAC ducts were intentionally broken (and also that they covered in asbestos, which was promptly removed by a company I hired within a few days of the notice from AHS). After I explained that the HVAC compartment was always locked and inaccessible for others and that I certainly wouldn't benefit from breaking it myself, the AHS changed their stance and claimed that the ducts are completely inaccessible for the repairs contradicting with their first statement.

After that I called AHS and argued that it does have access to be repaired. Then the AHS changed their mind again back to original claiming it was intentionally damaged. By the way, the statements I got directly from the repairmen do not claim that the ducts were intentionally damaged. Visually the ducts do not appear damaged, just disconnected due to improper installation - absence of any required fasteners (which is a covered reason).

On top of that, when I call AHS it takes between 30 minutes to well over an hour to wait on hold to reach a representative to check the repair status or discuss the situation and the representatives are not helpful. It's been over a month. AHS collected their $75 copay fees. I spent countless hours on the phone calling AHS and no repairs were done at all while it is blazing hot in southern California.

This was my fifth call to try to close the issue and I have spent more time waiting than getting the problem resolved. When I finally got an agent the service request was sent out and the service company (Three Brothers) came out the following day. Within 24hrs, per contract terms. Unfortunately in Houston heat that meant one night with really bad sleep of course...

The quote for repair came up to $1100 for out-of-pocket costs. Work to upgrade to code (drain lines, flood switch, drain lines even for a unit that is only 8 years old) is not covered nor is the main part of $40/lb for 14 lb of freon. AHS would only cover the coil replacement and $10 per lb for freon. I am unhappy with the service especially the horrendous waiting time on the phone and will probably not renew my contract with them. At this point I would not recommend them.

Another call 6/10 on hold for 66 minutes, call again 6/20 and was on hold 57 min., call again 6/22 for another 59 min. on hold. Long story short AHS has been giving me the runaround. The compressor has failed in my heat pump and the heat pump needs replaced. I had the technician come out that they recommended and he could not figure out the issue. Nice guy, but just could not find the problem. I told him I had another company already come out and found the compressor was bad and the heat pump needed replaced because they do not make that compressor anymore and R22 is not a viable option.

AHS requested a second option. I called back several times and they could not find someone to service my heat pump. They suggested I get my own contractor to come in and take a look. I did have a contractor come out and they said the same thing...THE HEAT PUMP NEEDS REPLACED... AHS did not like this and sent out the original technician they sent out. The technician agreed with the company that I had come out and said all the readings point to the compressor valves. AHS will not do anything according to him.

I am currently on hold with AHS and have been for 1 hour and 15 min. so far. I told AHS that the company I had come on site charged me 79.00 and they told me that they would not pay because the technician did not call them. Who has time to sit on hold with a company for this long? I just got disconnected after being on hold for 1 hour and 16 min. I am not on hold again. I've had them come out a lot of times through the years and they have always repaired or replaced the things. There was a process involved in replacements and that takes a certain amount of time as they’ll have a second provider come by to verify and get a second opinion on it. One time there was an issue with the refrigerator, it had been misidentified. They had as about 20% smaller box and they wanted to replace it with what they thought was a comparable one, and I told them that it's not the correct one. They explained and I came in and read the model number off of the old box and they said, “Oh well, we had it as the wrong size.” They got it corrected and the replacement went smoothly.

We’ve gone back and forth quite a bit with American Home Shield. When we call, make appointments, and when they get someone out there, they were great. But with their coverage, they have decreased things so much and we are not happy with that. When we first started with them 12 years ago, the coverage was amazing. We’re now at a point where we almost think that American Home Shield is not worth what we’re paying because of what we have to pay to fix the things when their technicians come out given what AHS doesn't cover.

It’s been the last several years that we noticed this. The price and the deductible keep going up. They’ve raised our price but we’ve not changed the package we have which is the max thing, however, it covers us less. An example is a coolant for our air conditioner. They used to cover the majority of that. But the last time AHS sent technicians out, we had to pay $500 out of pocket for that because AHS didn't cover the coolant being added to it. For what we’re paying yearly, it doesn’t make sense ‘cause we’re also having to also pay their deductible. We’ve been on the look for someone else to go with because of this change. But as far as the people that AHS contract and work with, we have absolutely no complaints. They have been wonderful.

Here it is, a full week later, I have heard nothing! I've called THREE times this week, only to sit on hold for almost 3 hours! And to only have spoken with one person who said their system was down and to call back later??? I'm regretting renewing my contract with American Home Shield. They have done absolutely nothing for us in 12 months!!

I had an issue with my microwave/oven combo unit and the microwave part of the unit will not work. The display on the unit works fine but the microwave keeps on giving the message "Door" upon pressing the start button. Upon some research, it looked like the door sensor(s) (it have 3 sensors) is malfunctioning. I did open a service request with AHS few months ago. The contractor showed up and told me that this is a 2 person job and he is authorized for only one person. He never worked on the unit, collected the 75$ visiting fee and left. Upon checking the website for the service status, it kept on saying In-Process for few weeks.

I called AHS and they gave me an explanation that they are still awaiting for some response from the contractor. Couple of weeks later, the service order was closed. Upon multiple communication with AHS, they told me that the contractor is saying that the circuit board stopped working due to the power surge and power surges are not covered under my AHS contract. I did explain the situation to the customer rep and they issued me a 75$ credit on my account (they refer this as a coupon). The did send another contractor with same experience - Contractor mentioned that it is two person's job and he wont work without per-authorization. AHS closed the case one more time.

I did follow up with AHS One more time on last saturday (24-jun-16) and the AHS rep scheduled another appointment with Sears and assured me that I will not be charged for the 75$ fee. I got an appointment for tuesday (28-Jun) and A&E technician showed up. He demanded for 75$ upfront and when I showed him my AHS email with 0$ fee, he refused to budge and left the house.

I called AHS again and they scheduled Sears/A&E again for today 30-Jun. The A&E guy showed up and said that there is no issue with the circuit board (as other part of the unit works, along with the clock, oven etc) and that the door switch is bad. When he tried to get an approval for the work from AHS, it got denied. The AHS Customer Rep said that it is denied as it is not covered under warranty. I explained the situation and history to him one more time and he said that he does not see such information in the system and will have to check with his supervisor.

The issue here is: AHS using sub-par contractors who are out for the money and not to fix the issue. AHS can not coordinate with its subcontractors. Every time some one shows up, gives some excuse and leave the property without fixing (and many time even without looking at the issue) the problem. Every time that happens, the homeowner has to figure out a way to be available at home for the next visit. AHS customer service is a joke - each time I have tried calling them, the wait time is at least 50 minutes or more.

AHS system issue/ Customer Service training issue? - As a home owner I had to explain the situation every time I talk to someone. They first refuse to believe the information I was providing such as the 75$ coupon etc. Every time I asked the customer service person to get hold of the manager so that customer's concerns are heard, the response is always that they are busy and that they will get back to me in "few" hours - Which never happened!

After all this back and forth, I am still awaiting for AHS to provide me an update on the next step. When I bought the protection plan about a year ago, I was expecting adequate support from AHS. Unfortunately, it looks like they are looking for a reason how to deny the service when their customer needed it the most. Stay away from AHS!

Every time I call it takes over an hour to get someone on the phone. When addressed their excuse is that they have many calls coming in. Today it was 931 calls on wait. They really need to address that. Also the contractor was here on the 20th of June. Today is the 30th of june and I had not heard from them. They called the company while I was on hold and I was told that they are going to put it in to the system and I would get a call within 24 hours. Lets see what happens. Very frustrated. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that there was no one available. Waiting to hear from a supervisor. The girl tried to connect me to the expediting department, but no one answered there either. I really disliking their service now.
