I've been with American Home Shield for quite some time and then I left them for a year and came back to them. Their service is quick and they respond. But they are not available on phone or on email or even through chat. When I wanted to talk to somebody, I was on hold for an hour the first time I called and then another 35 minutes the second time. So I just left it because nobody was picking up. I'm really frustrated with that. And I went for the chat, but then they said it was not available. I was so pissed off.

When I had a water pressure problem, American Home Shield sent out a company. They changed something that rather deteriorated my water pressure. So I called the guy again but it still didn't work. Then I had to leave and go out of the country for two months. When I came back, I called again. The guy came on a Saturday and he was supposed to come between 11AM and 3PM. But he arrived at 3:30PM and he was totally tired. He just kept staring at the thing and then he said he forgot his ladder at the last place and that he didn't have anything to make it straight flow. I was so fed up that I just told him to go because I didn't think he knew anything about it.

I had no way to tell American Home Shield what happened, so I called the company in the morning and told them to cancel the service because their guy could not do it and he couldn't give me any information or report. They are a great company and I had services done for my pool and garage door in the last months, and they were done perfectly. But with this last guy, it was like when you're stuck somewhere and you have nowhere to go.

American Home Shield should do something about their communication with their clients. There is no communication other than the internet. They can make a column online in which you could say any other problems, so one can write down what exactly happened. Also, if you want to cancel the order, you have to go on a phone to cancel it, but nobody is going to pick. And they should be approving it in front of your order that you want to cancel it. American Home Shield should give us a time limit when you can cancel the service.

I've been telling everyone that American Home Shield is a great company. Although they are the most expensive in the city, at least you don't have problem with the spare parts and other things. But through time, American Home Shield is deteriorating rather than it is getting better.

I'm very happy with the service from American Home Shield. I'm in Kansas City and my niece is living in the house. But if something breaks, she calls me and I could just call one number and American Home Shield will take care of it from there. Then I just have to pay the service call of $100. And that is worth a million dollars to me.

The hot water heater on the bottom floor of our house over in Alabama had a problem. It started about three days prior to us contacting American Home Shield to have them come out and check it. I submitted the claim online and their website was great. Then my daughter met the workers who came out and they were very pleasant to deal with. They took care of everything and it was a very easy process. They repaired the heater and I was impressed. I had to do two calls, and they called and came out when they said they would. Everything went great and that made me go ahead and do another year with them. I would highly recommend American Home Shield.

The top side of the attic that I use was creating a leak in my ceiling. There was some overflow in my AC's drip pan, and the PVC pipe that comes out of there and goes outside was clogged. Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was excellent. They're very prompt to come out and take care of the issue. I pay my $75, and I'm a happy customer. I've used them many times on several of my properties and I’d recommend them to my friends.

We had an awesome experience with American Home Shield. We had a faucet in the bathtub of our hallway bathroom. My husband was taking a bath and the faucet blew off. We looked for a faucet and thought that we'll just fix it ourselves, but realized that the faucets we were looking at were not going to do the trick. It was a Saturday and we thought we'd call on Monday and get a plumber to fix it for us. I was in an extra bedroom and the carpet was all wet. I told my husband that we had a problem and that we had a leak somewhere. We pulled back the carpet and the padding was all wet. So I called American Home Shield and told the rep what the problem was. She was very helpful and before she even had all the info, she already called and dispatched the plumber. She told us that it was a serious thing since we had wet carpet on the floor.

Within 15 minutes, someone from Lovett A1 Plumbing called us and told us that he would be here within 20 minutes. He came out and spent a couple of hours here. Plus, he also tried to find a faucet that would work. He had to cut a hole in that wall of the bedroom to see where the leak was coming from. It was behind where the bathtub faucet was. The water ran back behind the walls somehow and came up under the other wall. He cut two little holes in my bedroom wall and he kept monitoring it through the whole process. Plus, he finally found a faucet that would work. He fixed it and had to work with the copper pot that came off the wall, where the faucet was attached. He worked very well and I really appreciate him.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield for my heat pump. Their claims representative was very good. I'm a medical alert patient and I made her aware of that so their rep got me someone within a day. The contractor that came out was the best I've ever had and were totally different from other companies. The AHS rep spoke very highly of them. The contractor called me back and since I recently had surgery and I'm going out for therapy, they worked with me on my schedule and kept me posted to let me know who is coming. They were very professional and I would recommend that company to people with heating and air conditioning problem.

We purchased our house in 1993 and that was when AHS was offered to us. The house was built in 1978 so it's an older home with possible issues and we've kept up with AHS so that it will keep the cost down for any repairs. I've submitted claims both online and over the phone. Recently, I had an issue where the fan belt motor burned out in our heat pump and had the fire department come out since there was smoke everywhere, then I called AHS. The downside was that I had to wait an hour on the phone to speak to somebody as they prefer everything to be done online.

But the good part was that they were able to contact the provider that could come in that same day. The interaction I had with the contractor was very good. He was very nice and very professional. He had it done the same day and the heat pump has been working fine since then. I've had AHS come out three times this year and everything's gone smoothly. AHS is a good value for the premium that people pay.

The most recent claim I had was with the air conditioner and the heat pump, and the AC people came out three times. The tech came once to check it because it was not cooling and he ended up putting a coolant in. He wasn’t sure whether there was a leak or not, so he put in something that would show that there was a leak. A couple of weeks later, it was not cooling again, so I called American Home Shield and the tech came out. He found two leaks, but he wasn’t sure whether he got all of them and he pressurized it, and he came back this past Monday. The pressure was up so there were no more leaks, and he put the refrigerant back into the system, so it's fine.

I also had a refrigerator claim and the only problem I had with it was that American Home Shield immediately contacted Sears. After three to four postponements, Sears got somebody out there who did absolutely nothing. I reported that to American Home Shield, and they immediately switched to another contractor. It is always very easy to submit a claim and I always call to make sure that everything gets put in properly. The only time there was a problem was when a young lady rep had a little problem with the computer late at night, but other than that, it's always been very good. American Home Shield is dependable but you have to read the contract to be sure that you're covered for replacement value.

We have been living in our home for about two months now and got American Home Shield when we closed on our condo. We had a leaky kitchen faucet and so they came out to fix it, including the garbage disposal. It was originally working okay, but then it started not to drain properly. The plumber came out and assessed the situation. He was great and very prompt. And then, about a week later he came back with parts as replacements. Everything went smoothly from there.

Calling them is a nightmare but submitting the claim online was very easy. Within 24 hours, I get a call from whoever has been assigned to come out and see us. However, claims that have had to be resolved outside of the normal realm of things have walked by. The follow-up call has been frustrating because of how long they had to attend to me over the phone. But ultimately, everything has been resolved.

The contractors they send out are mixed. We've had very honest contractors and they are frank with us with regards to their ability to fix things. And so with the garbage disposal, they told us that the part I've had installed was the lowest end of the line and that's what they can offer. But there's an option to upgrade with an additional amount. It's because American Home Shield requires the exact same replacement for what the contractors are taking out, which is just their policy. Overall, I've had a positive experience with AHS. This is our first time owning a house and we don't really know who to go to, so having AHS is a nice exposure.

I’ve had American Home Shield for several different times with different houses and I’ve always hated it because I dreaded using the service which took so long. The people were generally so inexperienced and amateur-ish when they came out. But the last two times had been exactly the opposite. It seemed like from the outside looking at a very well oiled machine. I submitted the claim online and I immediately got a reply from American Home Shield and from the technician who came. The guy even called before he showed up. The repair happened in less than 24 hours.

I asked AHS to come out and fix my heater to be sure it was safe to run it for the winter time. Then I made a follow-up to my last request to them that I wanted to be sure that all condensation had a way to drain out since there was a bit of water accumulating in my drip pan and a blow in my air conditioning unit in my attic. The guy who came a couple of weeks ago for the drain problem was the same guy who fixed some moisture that had seeped through our ceiling. He knew exactly what to look at. Besides him, the other guy was personable and I start over explaining to him what the last guy did. He talked to us and told us what he was doing and it was a great interaction. American Home Shield is great and easy to do business with.

We called American Home Shield for a clogged drain. The contractor who came out to our house was professional. He was on time, as stated when he called. He was not very thorough the first day but on the second day, he was able to pinpoint that the issue was in the main drain. And then we had to take another step but it took him the second day to determine what was the main issue. So far, the plumbing has been good and we haven’t had to call again. We know what the issue is, which will require a major removal of the pipe where the root is but the issue is not present at this time. American Home Shield doesn’t have multiple contractors. The person was professional and resolved the issue on the second trip, but it didn’t provide more flexibility.

Some things with American Home Shield have been really good in the past, but some things were not. We had a horror story with the refrigerator. My husband complained tremendously about it. I had to transfer things to coolers into our garage refrigerator on a regular basis for about three months. It broke down three different times before we finally could get a refrigerator that worked. And then with the washer/dryer situation, it went on for over a month. The agitator was sucking it under so it was ruining clothes. And it was an inexperienced service person who came out the first and the second time. The third time, we got somebody who knew what they were doing, and then we finally got a really nice new washer. With the microwave, we were quite surprised that American Home Shield didn’t immediately say that they would replace it. It was a used microwave and around 20 years old. They said they were going to repair it.

My husband always starts the claim process online and I would speak to their reps at times. They have been lax, delayed, and they have racked up service calls and payments when it was unnecessary. They could do better. Some of the contractors are good, most are excellent. And if we don’t like them, American Home Shield can reschedule with somebody else. It hasn’t been always the best experience with American Home Shield, and since we were stuck paying and needed the service, we have to go with it. And the delays are so that they could keep charging for service calls.

I did a callback on my ice maker on the refrigerator which I had claimed for with American Home Shield. They had sent a repairman out about two weeks before and he said he just cleaned it out and that it was okay. A part had come off and he wasn’t sure what it was. And so, it worked for about a week and then the same thing happened where it wasn’t working anymore. I called Art Plumbing back and the owner came back and he said, “Yes, you need a new one and he should have known what this part was.” So, he put a new one in and everything has been fine. I've been happy with it.

It was a little bit of an inconvenience however that they wouldn’t come out after 3:30 in the afternoon. I'm a teacher so I can't take off whenever I want to and I don’t get off school until about 3:15. So, I had to have a friend come by and stay here until they got here. Also, I wasn’t really happy with the first gentleman who came out. He didn’t seem as knowledgeable as he should have been. I wish American Home Shield would send someone out the first time that knew what he was doing, should have known what the part was that has gone off. Other than that, every time I've had a problem, even if it took a time or two, it was taken care of. I’ve submitted my claim online and have talked to reps over the phone as well and they were very nice.

I heard back from them immediately saying that I would hear from a specific AC repair company, which I heard back from within an hour. They were very flexible in setting up an appointment that worked for me as well. The contractor who came seemed confident and quickly had a good sense of what he thought was wrong, but he checked other things as well to make sure that he wasn’t missing something. It wasn’t a super long appointment but I definitely felt it was thorough. We also ran the AC that day to test it. I’m pleased so far with AHS and I recommend them.

We had issues with our air conditioner. I submitted a claim both online and through the phone. The representative was great. The website is fine if the claim is something basic, but it was a little cumbersome. A lot of times I had to call them to specify something. With the claim I put in, the website actually assumed that was a recall on another issue, when it wasn't. I've also tried to put in another claim for my fridge and it doesn't have the correct options, so I can't complete the request online.

The contractors were awesome, though. They called us and let us know when they were on the way. We've had much better luck with the contractors through AHS than we have just calling on our own. They don't try to over repair things. I've recommended AHS several times to my co-workers and friends. They make it very easy and relieved a lot of stress around this kind of repair.

I noticed a very wet spot on some carpet in the basement but I could not figure out where the water was coming from. So I called and had them send out a furnish guy since the wet spot was a couple of feet in front of where my furnish is. The first guy came out and said that it's definitely not my finish. It was a plumbing issue.

So then we switched and we had a plumber come out. I had to rip up some of the carpets. We then realized that there's a french drain under the carpet and for some reason, that sewer was blocked. We tried to replicate the problem because it wasn't backing up anymore no matter what we did until we finally poured water into the actual drain and it backed up. Immediately, he snaked it and cut it out. He noticed something was in my hot water and it probably needs to be replaced. He gave me a price that was very reasonable so I'm going to call them next week and schedule to have that replaced.

But I had some bills showing up from AHS and they were charging me for the first people that were coming out. I called and told them that I'm unsure about it, but the guy didn't do anything. All he said was I had to call the plumbing people so I don't really understand why I'm being charged for the heating and cooling people who came out. And then I had a charge for the plumbing people and I said that I paid them when they were here. The customer service representative was able to realize why I was being mischarged and she assured me that I don't have to pay anything extra.

The customer service representative was extremely nice. As soon as I explained the problem she was very accommodating. She was able to pull up my records and saw where the problem was. Though it took her a while to get it rectified on the computer she kept coming back on the line saying "I'm sorry it's taking me long. We'll get it figured out." And then she did come back and she said, "Okay. It's all taken care of. She then gave me confirmation numbers and said that it takes about three weeks to go through accounting. She added that I may get some additional bills but my confirmation numbers tell that everything is paid in full.

Since the repair everything has been fine. Though I don't understand why that sewer became clogged because the people that lived here before me were pretty meticulous with the house. It might be some type of a weird drain that's not in use very often. I'm a single mom and some of these repairs are all new to me. And owning a home by myself for once it was reassuring to know that I had people at American Home Shield to help me through it all. Everybody was extremely helpful at American Home Shield and they got things fixed right away.

We had a problem with our heater, and American Home Shield gave me the name of the contractor. Then the contractor contacted me, scheduled my appointment for a week later and they told me that was within the guidelines but that didn’t end up working out. The company ended up calling me on the day they were supposed to be here and said that their tech called in sick and that they had to put me at the end of the list. They refused to work with me at all and the girl told me they can’t pay overtime to somebody just because they can’t have somebody come out. She made a big deal about how the tech that called in sick was going to come in on a Saturday, which was another five days later, to cover his appointment that he had for that day.

I said that I should be up to the front of the line with a different technician because we’ve been waiting for eight days. The girl really had no idea but she was just saying they're not going to pay somebody overtime just because of that reason. I said that if they have an appointment scheduled, they can’t tell me that they will not pay overtime pay. That’s their business. To tell me that they’re not going to pay somebody overtime when they’re overbooked and they can’t meet their appointments doesn’t make sense.

I mentioned that when I called back to them after they cancelled with me because they were telling me my only option was that next Saturday and my husband was really upset about it. He said that there was no way we are working with them. I was not happy about it so I called back American Home Shield and I explained the situation. They said that since I was over their seven-day approval time, they allowed me to switch to a different provider and they found somebody. The lady put me on hold and found somebody right away and explained that I’ve been waiting forever to have my heat fixed. We had no heat for over two weeks and we were using space heaters. Somebody called me back right away within a half an hour of finding a new company. The reps were really friendly and helpful.

The only complaint I have about American Home Shield is I cannot get a hold of them. I have waited four times for at least 40 minutes on hold to try to get a hold of somebody. There are certain things that I can do on the website but there are certain things that I can’t do. The problem is they don’t answer and there’s no way to make the call to get somebody any quicker except when they want me to renew. If I call the renew number, I don’t get a hold because they want my money. Not all people have 40 minutes to wait on hold. They really need to change that.

Also, when we bought our home, the seller gave the warranty which he only paid $280 and it didn’t cover all that much. One of the techs that came out to our house said that all my stuff was right about the time when I was going to start having a problem so he recommended renewing the warranty. When we went to renew the same policy with the same coverage, it was $408. I was pissed about that. But I ended up renewing and I added AC to my renewal because that wasn't included in the warranty. Other than that, the contractors have always been good and my experiences have been positive.

About three calls that I have recently with American Home Shield were satisfactory in terms of the technician who came to diagnose and order the parts within a reasonable amount of time. I have two real concerns, though. One is if I want to keep a specific contractor who I've had a prior good experience with, I cannot do that on the website. And two is in a plumbing claim, for example, if I want to add an additional plumbing item that I've found, I also cannot do it on the website. These simple things I have to put in a call to talk to a claim representative and the typical wait time is an hour and a half. That has constantly been the experience. That is just too long to wait to talk to someone in the claims department.

I've been with American Home Shield for 17 years since I bought the house and they had their price up so they're a bit pricey. Our unit for upstairs wasn't cooling and it was a hot day so I submitted a claim with them and it has been fine. The contractors were fine as well and they're very courteous in and out. However, they left a little mess upstairs that had to be vacuumed but I didn't make a big deal of it. Everything was doing good and they made sure that the door was closed. I have a little dog and they made sure that he didn't get out when I couldn't get it in time. I was able to get the contractor out quickly this time but there have been other times that they've not come out. Overall, sometimes, they could be a little slow to get a contractor out.

The call went to the automated line and it worked out okay. The first company came out and diagnosed it as one item and said that they didn’t work on my type of furnace so they had to get someone else out. I didn’t appreciate the guy. Then, another technician came after him and took the time to take the furnace apart to find out what was wrong with it. He ordered the part and fixed it. He knew what he was doing and he was professional. It was a good experience. I'm a retiree for 40 years from AT&T so I appreciate good customer service.

We had two separate claims which both happened the same week. One was for a refrigerator and one was for some plumbing issues. The refrigerator claim was easy to submit. We were contacted right away and the repairmen came out right away to fix it. It was a maintenance issue that we weren't aware of and the contractor even showed us what to do in the future. The repair was flawless and the refrigerator is fine now.

With the plumbing issue, we were encouraged to submit the service request online. We did it but the options given did not specifically apply to our issue. So, we chose the best option and when the plumber got here, he refused to do some of the work because they were not in his work order. We called American Home Shield and it took us an hour to talk to a person every time we called. AHS was able to adjust the work order for the repairman to do the work but it took two appointments because the first time he was not able to work with the type of faucets that we have in our home so he left without completing the work. Then it took several phone calls to get AHS to reassign that service request to someone else until it was eventually taken care of. It was frustrating and it took full two weeks before we got somebody to complete the repair.

The plumber who came out showed us what was wrong but he couldn't fix it so we eventually got it fixed on our own. He was borderline rude and we wouldn’t ever use him on our own. In the end, we paid the service charge when the refrigerator guy came and we did not pay the service fee for the plumber the first time because he did not complete the job. But we paid it the second time when he completed one of the two issues.

I had a leak in the water heater, so AHS had to replace the water heater. I called to file the claim and explained to them that my water heater was not working properly, that it had a hole at the bottom of it. They said they would send the recommended company that they would choose out to look at it, they looked at it and I paid $487 for the new water heater plus the $145 deductible.

Their reps were receptive and professional. I called and they said that they'd have to go through ES Plumbing. They would have to use their people to come look at it. However, I had to wait two weeks before they delivered the new water heater, which was tough. We got cold weather here, but I made it. Their demeanor was good. Everybody said we got to make sure everything is put back right, and it's up to code.

Everything is working good now. ES Plumbing put in the water heater, took care of the faucet in the bathtub and they did a good job. I'd recommend AHS. I've never had any problem with them. I've had the policy for a couple of years now but I was a little dissatisfied that I had to pay $625. I thought it might have been a little bit less but I'm glad AHS took care of it. I received a very efficient company to take care of it. I thought the $145 deductible was fair. I just thought the extra $487 that I paid was a little deceitful.

American Home Shield covers plumbing, electrical, and major appliances and having their home warranty is the best investment one could ever put their money into, especially because things happen. A homeowner already has got to worry about utility payments and it's so much stress when an appliance goes out. Our AC went out in August and it was inconvenient because it was hot then. I contacted American Home Shield by phone to submit a claim and everything was fast and went fine. Everything was good with the representative who took down the information. The next day, we had a contractor show up and he went to the unit and fixed it. He turned on the AC unit and everything works fine. I was happy.

I've had several appliances break down and American Home Shield has come out and fixed them. The most recent one was for my refrigerator. The contractors who came were professional and did what they were supposed to do. They say that they track their people with GPS and they know where they are. For instance, if I call them for a repair for my washing machine and they come out. They say that come in Tuesday at 1 o’clock and I’m not there. I said, “No, I’m here.” They don't show up until they charge you $100 fee regardless of whether they showed up at the right location or not. And we have no avenue of recourse.

And if we were to cancel our contract with them then they give us the cancelation fees and penalties and everything else that goes along with it. So it’s much cheaper just to bite the bullet and pay the $100 and go on. Because they probably do that a thousand times a day. Who knows? So I’ll probably won’t take AHS again when it’s time to renew it.

There was actual ice on the line both inside and outside, so I had to call him back and he was very responsive. He looked at it and he figured out that the control panel was actually calling for the AC and heat at the same time. So, he had to replace the control panel, which he didn't have one with him. I've been with AHS for so many years and I've had a lot of trouble with them. Last year, I fought with them over a drier. It was two months of back and forth, different service reps coming out and me having to take time off work to be there. It was a nightmare that should not have been. They finally replaced it, but they should have done so from the beginning. Plus, I got the cheapest drier I could get because they would only give me a few hundred dollars for it.

I also had a washer and having it replaced was another ordeal but it was done. The air-conditioner was the worst one. It went out on a Friday, about 2:00 in the afternoon. We're in Arizona so it was 115 degrees outside. I called American Home Shield and I put in a work order. The rep said the contractor couldn't get there until Monday. I canceled the work order and called somebody on my own to get it fixed. The people I got told me that all American Home Shield was going to do was to keep putting parts in and get the AC to run. They didn't replace very quickly. I ended up getting a new air-conditioner since the previous one was so old, 26 years old.

I called AHS and was told to send in the receipts for the AC and to make an appeal to them. They denied me because they said I didn't follow protocol because I should have called them back and maybe they could have gotten an emergency person out there. But I thought I followed the protocol because when I called them and tried to get someone out there, they couldn't be there until Monday. What was I going to do? I am not happy with American Home Shield and I would not recommend them. The whole idea is if they can't fix something, it has to be replaced. The process was such a rigmarole to go through.

AHS also keeps you on hold for so long and when you want to talk to a supervisor, they put you into them and you leave voicemails and nobody ever calls you back. They're horrible. I understand that AHS is a large company but they should get people to work. We all pay our bill on-time and they work for us. Also, I forked the money out of my own pocket for the AC and I should have technically had it covered. The best thing AHS could do is to reimburse me my money. Overall, I still have AHS but I have very minimum on there.

I filed a claim with American Home Shield recently for my water heater. At the beginning, filing it was not too hard. I got something automated, so it wasn't a live person, and then I got people to come out. The pilot went out and I tried lighting it, but it wouldn't stay lit. The guy that came out tried too and had a heck of time getting it to stay lit but finally he did. He fixed some little wires but he said it probably would happen again, so it was a band aid type fix that wouldn't last. T

Later on, I got an email from American Home Shield saying something about a new water heater. I called them up to make sure that they pay because I knew I had to pay for the upgrades. My water heater was put in the 1970’s and I knew that there were things to be done to get it up to today’s code. I was on hold for over an hour and I was red hot by then. I hung up before I exploded. Finally I gave up and then the plumbing company got back with me and told me that they had contacted American Home Shield. They decided, with the plumbing company’s recommendation, on a new water heater which I think was greatly needed. So my water heater is in and done.

Some people gave me the name of other companies and I might look into them. What good does it do to have a company like this that will fix things when they need to be repaired when customers can't even get through to them? I know several people are looking into home warranties and before, I would tell them I have American Home Shield and that AHS has always been real good about fixing things. In the past it's been okay but this is ridiculous. As far as getting my things repaired, once I was hooked up with a company then things went okay. We thought it was fixed at the time but it wasn’t so I waited for something else to go wrong before I have them come back.

Then the hot water dispenser started leaking. The technicians came back and replaced the flapper again and the flapper was fixed on the toilet. But, they said that the hot dispenser was not covered. They told me it would cost $80 to fix it so since they were right there, I gave them $80 to fix it. All they did was tighten some things. Then, I had an inspector come out to inspect the stovetop since it wouldn't start. They told me that I should have called AHS so they could fix the stovetop. An appliance guy came to look at the stovetop and said that it was water damage so AHS would not pay for it. The repair cost $500 to fix it so I’ll just use a match to light the stovetop.

I wasn’t really sold with AHS but I had to renew with them because there weren't any good choices, including them. I timed my calls with AHS and each and every time, I was on the phone for over an hour just on hold. You shouldn’t have to wait that long every time you call, several times in a week. If you have to purchase a plan from them, there's no problem getting to talk to someone. But if you have an actual problem, you can’t.

Also, claims are not always uploaded to the computer like when I had an issue and it said that I didn't have a complaint or a concern on there. The only option at that point is not to email someone about the problem but to make an appointment. You can't even request to have them call you at a certain number. They don’t have a phone number saying your call would be on hold for more than 30 minutes. They only ask if they should call you back or if you would like to stay on hold.

And when I spoke to someone one time, she was upset that I was on the phone with her for about half an hour when I was on hold for over an hour. Each time she asked if I had any more concerns, I gave her a concern after talking about the first one, I had five concerns then. So I’m not really thrilled with American Home Shield.

I still have an outstanding balance of more than $125 from I don't know where. I spoke to someone about it and she said it would eventually go away, but she said I would have to wait for 14 days meaning if it’s still on my billing in 14 days, I would have to call again and waste my time. I’m a busy ER doctor so I don’t have time to call people all day long.

Also, because of their lack of repair, I had to go shower in my neighbor’s house. AHS would say someone was going to call me back within 24 hours but nobody did. They never answered the phone after 3 emails and I left a couple of messages. By the time I got in touch with someone, I was told that they canceled my order, replaced it with somebody else and had no one until Monday so there was a whole weekend in between.

I didn't have cash at the time and I just had my card so I couldn't pay him. Then, I talked to the lady in AHS and she said that they just fix whatever’s broken and they don’t do refrigerant. Sometime in November, the drum inside my washer stopped moving so it wouldn't spin clothes. I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it's not really hard. However, there's always an hour wait over the phone if you have a problem. And then, when you finally get through, they send someone out. But the guy was in my house for just two seconds and then he left. He said that they will order the part. I looked online on my account and it said, "part ordered." Yet, nothing was heard from the company or AHS for days.

I finally called them and after an hour of waiting again, they told me that the contractor denied my claim because I broke the washer but I didn’t. It's ridiculous. They said they’ll send someone else out to take another look at it. That took days. Finally, someone came out and he said that they will find out what the problem is, and then they will order the parts. Days went by and we never heard back. I called American Home Shield again and after an hour of waiting, they told me that the parts aren't available anymore so they will instead give me a new washer and dryer. I have a problem with calling every time and being on hold for an hour and then getting rude people on the phone. And on top of that, there’s no communication without me calling in to find out what’s going on. Nobody’s calling me to say what's going on. It's not very good and something is not right.

They find are the bottom-of-the-barrel people. They do not hold those contractors accountable for anything. For example, when the guy said my parts were on order and then the next thing you know, my claim was denied and nobody could ever answer how it was done. Also, they gave me a number to an appliance company to come out and that company wasn't even in business anymore. It seems that nobody’s following up with these contractors that they have on their list. The representative from AHS would say that they will call me, so I waited but nobody called. I called back to say that nobody called and they told me to try calling them again. Instead of them calling, I called the contractor myself and that's when I found out that the company wasn't even in business anymore.

It’s just a sad situation. I've seen everything online and there is not one positive comment on there for AHS. They’re all horrible complaints and mostly about on hold time and customer service. One lady that I spoke with on the phone basically called me a liar and that my concern is not in her system. So I asked to speak to a supervisor and she said none was available. I had to wait for somebody to call me back. Frustrated, I hung up the phone and I just called back later to speak with a really nice lady. She told me that none of my conversations with the previous representative were in the system. I'm sure she didn't note that because she didn't want her name.

So far, AHS sent me an email to give options for the replacement of my washer. I'm working through that to see if I'm going with whatever they provided or just buy my own and get a cash reimbursement since it’s not the same color and it’s hard to tell online if it’s really the kind of washer that I want. They said that once I send the receipt they’ll give me the cash back for it. But until they straighten their act up, I will never ever recommend them to anyone. While having a home warranty is a good idea because if things break down, you want protection. It's ridiculous that you have to jump through hoops and do all of these and deal with people's attitude just to get your stuff done when you’re paying for it, which is awful. I'm their client.

Again the rep was very helpful and pleasant. He informed me the first rep had resolved my issue, unbeknownst to me. I have to commend the employees, however the management seems to be very poor. They need to have an auto return your call system when the wait times are outrageously long. They also need to do work on their website and have an area to write comments and needs. A further review may be coming after my repairs are completed.

We have been with American Home Shield for years. This past year or so the service has completely gone downhill. The service is the worst. AHS sends out a technician from a company and then there is absolutely no follow up. We had a problem with our stove top on October 10, 2017. Today is December 1, 2017. RC Appliance came out and I don't know if they never communicated with AHS and dropped the ball or visa versa.

I called them again this AM and have been on hold with AHS for one hour and 45 minutes. This nice lady is working to fix the problem finally. But now I have to talk to a supervisor about the issue. So, we will be without our stove top until this is resolved once again. I don't love to cook but almost two months is ridiculous. I will be looking for another Home Warranty Company for our rental properties and home once this is resolved (hoping it shall be!). Terribly disappointed with how the company has gone downhill. Be careful when you sign up for American Home Shield!

I have been a long time customer of American Home Shield and their service is terrible. Besides the fact that each call into customer service has a wait time of a minimum of 30 minutes, my last two claims involve contractors that show up on site to just collect their service fee. Each contractor told us that they will never complete a job and that it is worthwhile for them to show up for 5 minutes, review the issue and notify AHS that the problem is not a warrantied item even though it is. For example, with my current claim, the contractor said that he did not want to do the job and that he was going to tell AHS that our AC/furnace was not installed incorrectly.

He said that this way he would get paid and it he would not have to do the work. However, we mentioned that the unit was installed by a licensed contractor and approved by the township that it was installed properly and that we have proof of that. The contractor said that was true but he didn’t want to complete the job and he just wanted his fee. AHS’s customer service people continually mention that they are not licensed contractors and need to listen to the contractor’s review on the issue. There aren’t any supervisors or anyone in corporate that will handle this. Shouldn’t they know what kind of contractors they are requiring that we use?

We still have a faulty unit and now I am required to pay an additional service fee for a second opinion who, if he’s like the other contractors associated with AHS, will deny any work to be completed. How unprofessional. All consumers need to be made aware of this company and the high risk you will endure if you try to utilize their service.

The next claim was for the thermostat. The little button came on and said it needed something, but all it needed to do was be reset. When we first submitted a claim to American Home Shield, I had to wait an hour on the phone to get a rep. It took so long to get a response. But this last time, I was shocked because we got a response within 15 minutes from the company that came to service our pool. The company that worked on our pool was very good. They’ve got very good employees, and I had very good rapport with them. We like them so much that we’re having them clean our pool and put chemicals in.

But the guys that American Home Shield sent out to work on our cooler wasn't very good. The motor that they put in makes more noise than the low-speed motor we had in there. So, we were out of a cooler for over two weeks, and I kept hearing excuses from them. They didn’t add the part, and they couldn’t find the part. And I don’t think they were really thrilled about doing coolers. But I read the remarks from other people that live here in town on Facebook, and they’re not very popular with them.

I submitted a claim for my AC unit, and American Home Shield did a great job. Their representative was really good when I called them, and the contractor that they sent to fix my unit was also very good. He followed us up, and also let us know that they were coming 30 minutes earlier. He was also very polite, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain that the fan went out and that he would have to order one and actually checked where to get the part quicker. Our AC is fixed and it’s been performing great ever since.

AHS, as well as the company that they used provided good service. It was a really good experience, and I’d recommend them. In fact, my son and daughter had different home warranty providers, and they both switched to American Home Shield. AHS does not give you the runaround when they come out. They find contractors that actually know what they are doing. The ones that went to my daughter and son’s house, were paid the same amount of money that I paid AHS, but then they fixed nothing at their house because it wasn’t covered or whatever under their home shield.

Yesterday, I was on the phone for quite a long time speaking with somebody from American Home Shield. I have four claims and I know that now, instead of me paying the service technician when they come, they'd rather use a credit card. That’s the latest thing they want to do. However, the first claim that I had was with a heater service. I wrote them a check and it’s already been cashed. Then, I had another claim with the plumber so I wrote him a check. But he called me back and said that they didn't take checks anymore. He also told me that he was going to rip it up and they’re going to just take the payment off of my credit card. I had two other claims and for the very last one, I wrote a check yesterday. I put it in the mail stop today, Sunday, and it won’t go in until Monday. But the lady that I spoke with yesterday said that some of these checks have to go through the bank before American Home Shield gets it, so it’s taking them quite a long time.

When I submit my claims with AHS, I call them and most of the time, I talk to a recording. Then the machine would come on and say that so and so has been assigned to me, that my confirmation number is blah, blah, blah, their phone number is that and I would be hearing from them soon within 24 or 48 hours. I've been carrying AHS for 17 years now and 75% of the time, the contractors they sent out were very good. I'm satisfied with them. AHS seem to be knowledgeable with the contractors that they use and what they do to get me the person to do the job is fine. But I hate the fact that I have to be on the phone so long to talk to somebody I wanted to for 15 to 20 minutes whenever I call in. That’s horrible.

Most recently we had a problem with our AC, and the tech said that the condensation pump was acting up because my garage kept getting flooded with water. He secured the problem and was in and out. We recently bought a house seven months ago and our heater and air conditioner unit stopped working. We were told it wasn't repairable and a red tag was put on it. We needed to change the unit to a new one because it was a hazard. Everything started on August 28 and it took more than a month to fix the problem. The first contractor that American Home Shield sent me, that was the worst experience in my life. The company was Prime Master and it was awful. They had no manners and didn't have any customer service.

American Home Shield declared an emergency since I am living in the high desert in California and by that time the heat was 106-110 degrees. And I had my 14-month-old son and 85-year-old mother-in-law with dementia at home. That was hell for us. I was sitting on my porch crying and asking my husband what we were going to do. We contacted another company but we would have had to pay $10,000. But why would we pay somebody else when we had a home warranty.

American Home Shield had nice people who were very polite. They listened to whatever I had to say and they tried to help me. But they didn't do anything fast and by that time, I was so frustrated because I needed to have the problem resolved. They told me many times that the contractor would call me in a week but they never did. I called the contractor but they told me that they were busy and they yelled at me. They wouldn't let me speak to a manager too. They also told me that I didn't speak very good English and that I had to call the office to explain to me what happened. I have a heavy accent but that was no way to talk to a customer.

So I called American Home Shield and told them to change my vendor because I couldn't deal with them. I didn't want the company in my house. AHS told me that changing vendors would take more time but I didn't care because the first one was not treating me with respect and were not professional. The experience with the second company, Sawyer, was night and day. They were very professional. There was a lady on the phone who was so sweet. And in a week, I had a new unit. We had to pay some amount from our pocket, around $2300, for the unit because American Home Shield only covered some of the expenses. But they were very nice and they help me with the permits.

We started turning the heat on in our house, but it was blowing cold air. The thermostat wasn't working right, and there was also something wrong with the venting outside. It's not American Home Shield's fault, but they were backdating our coverage for May when we bought the house, so we only have a little over six months left. There was a lot of confusion about our claim.

When we closed Escrow, I tried to call. AHS didn't have any coverage for us, but it was in our transaction that we would have them for a year. I called my realtors and they called Escrow, and apparently, they sent the money to AHS but they didn’t ever send in other information that AHS required to set up everything for us. So while AHS had the money, whoever was in charge down here at the escrow didn't send them the rest of the paperwork that AHS had asked for.

The rep over the phone when I submitted the claim was professional. The service provider did the best that the contractor thought they could do without going into huge expense for the company, but he was pretty sure that he got it good. Anything the contractor did, he cleaned up. He was so careful about his shoes, our home, or letting our dog out or no. He was so patient and professional about everything, and so polite. I was really impressed with this guy. However, the heater didn't work, and he said we have to call the service provider in. They were wonderful. When I called back, they said, "Thank you for letting us know. Can we come out right after 1:00 o’clock? Is that okay with you?” I didn't expect that. It's been a few weeks now since the repair, and everything's great.

I had my own property management company for 28 years along with being realtor for longer than that, so I dealt with American Home Shield a lot. Their contractors were really awesome. I was mega impressed by them. I would put these guys at AHS right at the very top of my list of excellent providers, and I would use them all the time. I'm glad we have AHS and we're going to get it again when it’s up.

The last 2 claims I had with AHS were for my air conditioner but they were two different issues. One issue was that the duct work in the house had a gap in the opening and it was making a loud sound when the air went through it which was called the air handler. It was bowed out a little bit because my husband and I went up there and looked to see if we could figure out what was making that sound. And so, the guy came in and he had to drill some holes to rivet and close that gap so that it wouldn’t make that sound. The pan that collects water underneath the air conditioner had filled somehow. The insulation had floated into it and he cleaned that too.

About a week later, the air conditioner wouldn’t cool, so we’ve made another claim. It took him a while to come, because the first time, he came right away, but the next time, there were a lot of people on the list. I was without air conditioning for four days. Some people were asking why I didn't call so and so down the street. I said that I’m with AHS and I have to use their people. When the same guy came, he found a wire that had come loose on the air conditioner outside the house and he soldered it back on. He was super nice, well-mannered and professional. He got right to the job, took care of it and got on with his day as we get on with ours. We were confident with him and we appreciated him getting everything done right away. And as far as I know, the air conditioner's working right now.

Then within the last month, I had three things break and four services called altogether. I had my dishwasher broke which was a minor thing. The guy that came out said that he can't fix it and told us to call the company since it’s under some kind of warranty that had to be fixed before they could work on it. Once the company did that, the problem was resolved. The contractor didn’t really work on it but he got paid $75, and the guy who came out and repaired it was paid by his company. The other thing was the dryer that had a belt problem. It was $75 which would have probably been $150 if I didn’t have the Home Shield.

Submitting a claim online with American Home Shield was easier than calling because sometimes I have to wait on the phone for a really long time for a representative. And I’m still iffy about their customer service because I was getting a service for $75 and I’m paying them $70. The work that I’ve had done would have cost not a huge amount of money because neither time was it anything big. That will really save me whenever I have a big problem that costs thousands of dollars. And I’m hoping it’s going to pay off later on. However, it's not outstanding since I didn’t get any new appliances. All of my appliances are 13 years old and I don’t know how long they can be repaired. But I'm very satisfied with American Home Shield. We’re not leaving it and promise to stay with it. And I have and would recommend AHS.

They always put me on hold. But I got through to a lady and she was very nice. She set me up with someone else but I never heard back from them either. So I called back to American Home Shield and told them about it. She thought it was somebody in Auberry, a little town that I live by and said the original people that they had set it up with would take a month.

I'm retired now but if I was still working, this would have been a big inconvenience. It was a long and ridiculous process, but the vent's working fine now. Prior to that, another company from AHS put a new kitchen faucet in for me and they were wonderful. However, they need to have more local people in our area because a year and a half ago, they sent an electrician who came from 90 miles away which was weird. And I live not too far out of a big town. My heating and air-conditioning went out so I filed a claim to American Home Shields over the phone. My interactions with their rep were fine, however, there was a two-day lag before they sent out someone but it wasn’t very long. The time was reasonable. It's just that at that time it was cold, so I really needed the heat. The technician came out and found the problem and fixed it very, very quickly. He was friendly, knowledgeable, engaging, and explained exactly what he was doing while I was watching him. Apparently, the issue was some kind of blockage that had blown in the vent. He cleaned it from some of the debris that had gotten caught in the gears and everything was fine after that.

When I first signed up for these services, I had to simply give the technician my deductible when they got to the house. I used it a couple of times and I was able to pay the technician the $125 when they came and fixed certain things in my house. I may have had four things fixed in my home since I’ve been with the service. And every one of those times I was able to give the check for the exact deductible amount to the technician. However, I was a little put off last time when they said, “No. You have to pay the deductible upfront.” So, I had to pay the provider the deductible over the phone via credit card. I wasn’t allowed to do a check and I paid an additional premium in tax. They taxed the $125, which made my total deductible about $134, which was not in the contract that I originally signed. I know it’s not that much money, but it was taxed, and that was not the way it was for my previous usages.

So, it made me think that either the services are going down, the company might be going out of business, or there’s something wrong with this overall protection plan that I have. So, it made me start to think if I need to look for another company to provide these services since this company now is charging me my deductible plus tax. I did make a statement about it and said, “Really? I’ve never paid tax on my deductible before.” And they said that in North Carolina they were now supposed to collect the tax on the service deductible. I have deductibles involving my job with my client, and my client, as far as I know, doesn’t have to pay a tax on their deductible.

I wasn’t dissatisfied with the service that the technician delivered but I was very dissatisfied with the way I was charged. Had they told me upon signing up that my deductible is going to be plus tax, I might have chosen a smaller deductible rather than the $125 that I did choose. The technician did a great job and got it up and running fast. But overall, I was concerned that maybe I need to find another company because the way that it was handled didn’t seem professional as it was in my previous encounters. It’s a minor issue, but it’s still an issue.

We lived in many states and have used American Home Shield for many years. We've always been very pleased with them and everything has been an A+. We always call on them for any claim then they talk to a person and it's good. But technicians were supposed to come yesterday for our microwave claim but they ended up not coming so we had to reschedule that. They needed another guy to list out the microwave oven then to install a whole new computer board. But they had a hustle and they'll be coming in two weeks. Other than that, I recommend AHS to friends all the time.

I’ve been a long-time user of American Home Shield and I generally like their service. The people from Bear Plumbing they sent most recently are fantastic. But the biggest issue is I cannot reach AHS on the phone. And so, when I call and do an automated thing, they send somebody of their choice automatically. And the first people they sent were from On Time Plumbing, which I did not want. But on the second call, they were gracious enough to give me a second opinion for no additional charge, and it was fantastic. Also, I understand prices go up but American Home Shield gets a little costly and their fee of $75 now is almost getting close to what the fee is for anybody to come out, and it won’t cover parts and labor.

I was able to file a claim with anyone I called from American Home Shield and they have all been nice, polite, courteous. And they've always got someone out here quick. But the first time my dryer went out I used a company I was totally dissatisfied with. It took them forever to get the parts and it took them forever to fix it. And it didn't sound right when they did fix it. It lasted a couple of years and then I had to file another claim.

The contractor came right out and told me that he had to order a part and the part came in a couple of days later. He came out and he fixed it. It's running now. Also what I did like that they did was now you don't have to pay the supplier when they come out. You can go online and just put in your card and be done with it. I would tell my friends to go for American Home Shield. I didn't believe any of this stuff either until my oldest brother told me to get it done. So I did it and I'm glad I did.

There was a water leak in my second floor which went all the way through my ceiling and the drywall had to be replaced. Submitting a claim with AHS seemed fairly easy and when the first technicians came out, they were on time, really interactive and helped me out a lot. They explained what they were doing and always asked me if it was okay if they were doing certain things. I pretty much told them they could do whatever they want to fix the problem and I was not going to tell them how to do their job. In the end, they got everything working properly. When the drywallers came in, they were not on time, but it wasn’t a big deal. They were really nice, too, but I didn’t realize that they didn’t put one of the lights back in, so I'm missing one light in my kitchen. They just put the drywall over the light instead of having the light through the drywall. I was kind of frustrated but I let it go.

When I had the serious problem with the water heater, American Home Shield sent out SWAT Plumbing and I was pleased with their service and their response. And so, when I had an issue with the garbage disposal, I asked for them. They were able to repair it. It turned out it was not a major problem and so, AHS didn't have to cover. I paid for the $75 visit and everything went well.

I'm 73 years old and a widow. My son and my daughter-in-law live here but so many times, I have to work at trusting who comes out to help me with jobs, especially if you're a woman by yourself. Sometimes, they don't know or they think you don't know very much. But I felt like I could trust SWAT Plumbing and then, American Shield was there, responsive to that first problem where it was a water heater problem and it was addressed. So far, I've been very pleased and I've already paid for next year.

We called AHS in for a repair of the refrigerator, and it was not a great experience. I put my notes away because out of frustration. I Initiated a call on a Sunday, and we were told we'd be contacted within 24 hours. First Monday came, no one contacted us. So, I called the number, and I was on hold for about 30 minutes to get to a representative. I put in the request, then she gave me a claim number. She said, "Someone else will get back to you maybe by Thursday." I said, "So, I have to go five days without a refrigerator?" She said, "I didn't realize it was a major appliance". So, she ended up switching it to somebody else and they would contact me. I let another 24 hours go and no one contacted me. Called again to the 800 number and I waited online for another half hour.

She located someone else, but they weren't able to come out 'til the following Tuesday. Hence, I went eight days without a refrigerator. So, then I followed up with the contractor and made the appointment and so forth. So they came out on Tuesday and he was here for about half hour or forty minutes, and he fixed the problem. I was very satisfied with the actual person who did the work. But the whole situation has made us rethink the warranty.

Once I filled out a claim, they're really prompt as far as getting service scheduled to our house, which was really good. I didn't have to wait a long time for a contractor to come out. My most recent experience with American Home Shield was last month. We called them and I got a technician to go see our dryer. They said there was an unusual dent in the dryer, inside the drum and that it can't be fixed and it can't be replaced. So, I got to come out of pocket to buy my new dryer. That's my worst experience with American Home Shield. I honestly thought you are taking money from my account each and every month thinking that I'm covered, no matter if it's replacement or if a technician will come out there. It's going to take money out. Or you can get a second opinion.

The contractor that they sent out was very professional. When he came to the house, he did everything. He looked inside and said, "Well, that's the problem. You got a hole in your tube. I'll let them know now. For sure, there will be a contact with you. But besides that, whatever they tell me what to do, they'll be in contact with me and I'll just come back." But that guy never went back. AHS got a guy in contact with us so, I said, "Well, we'll wait an hour." But I waited an hour and 43 minutes, to be exact before somebody came on the phone and we discussed the problem but they couldn't help me. To this day, I'm an honest customer, still paying. In the past, they did help me out. It's just that my last experience with them was unsatisfactory. I'd tell others to be careful what AHS tells them. Listen, pay attention and ask a lot of questions.

That makes the process a lot quicker too. But when trying to do it over the phone, the wait times are ridiculous. The first time when I had to call in for our dishwasher, it was a 40-minute wait. But when I get someone, it's pretty good. Recently, I filed claims for our refrigerator and a rain shed.

The only thing with AHS was there were a couple of issues with the last repair company that I wasn't too pleased with. American Home Shield changed their policy for collecting the service fees up front and I wasn't aware of that. When the repair guys came out the first time to diagnose everything, they took our credit card information and wrote it down on a paper which wasn't protected. If we or the repair company were to lose the copy, our entire credit card information, CVV, billing code would all be there. Other than that, the contractors sent to us were good.

Then Home Shield paid me and that was satisfactory. I’ve also had some attitude issues with some providers but Home Shield themselves were extremely polite. I’ve gotten negative feedback about Home Shield from their providers, too, and I was taken aback a little bit that the folks that they are hiring are giving them a bad rep. I’ve had them out several times in the last year and a couple of the providers were telling me to expect claims to be denied because that was the standard procedure for Home Shield. I had a problem with an AC unit, which was worked on earlier in the year, and then the heating as well. It wouldn’t come on. It seemed like it was warm outside but it wasn’t blowing anything warm inside. So the Greenway people responded to the call that I had put in American Home Shield and worked with American Home Shield in getting us two new units. Over several years Greenway has been the one that’s recommended to us and during the last week they were very helpful in getting everything set up to bring the units in.

They told me approximately how much time it would take to do it, about six and a half hour, and then they landed it right on the nose. They had to work in the dark and in the cold, and they still got it all done. We’ve been without heat for a couple of weeks in one area of the house, downstairs. And they got it running and everything was good.

American Home Shield has been very helpful as well. The only drawback, which is not one of their problems is that, it’s really hard to get in touch with them on the phone. It takes forever. They could get more phone lines. I’ve waited 40 minutes and so I’ve put it on a speaker. But I understand there are particular times of the year they’re overloaded. I’ve learned to use the internet and place a service request through their website and that’s been very helpful. And they’ve been very responsive and quick in terms of letting me know who the contractor will be. They have given me all the information that I need to go ahead with what I need to have done. I’ve been very pleased with the way they run their business and staying in contact.

I moved to American Home Shield several years ago from another home warranty outfit that had inferior contractors. American Home Shield contracts with really good persons who do service work. And I’ve been very pleased with the work they’ve done and the people that get sent out to do the work. The folks that they sent out were very professional and competent. With the other contractor it was a little sketchy in terms of who showed up and whether you really wanted them in your house. And I don’t feel that way with the people that American Home Shield has sent out.

I had a clog on one of my rental houses. Claiming submission to American Home Shield was actually one of the easier. I haven't had great experiences with them, but this recent claim was pretty decent. I wasn't too happy when the contractor came out for my hot water heater especially because that's one thing that they claim that they are really good at fixing. He told me that basically, unless it's rotted, that they're always going to look for a reason not to replace it, and I found that very disheartening. He basically said I need to call them, and pay it out of my pocket because American Home Shield is not going to fix it. He took my $75, and basically said turn off the temperature and you're on your own.

And to call them, and tell them that, "Hey! This is what your contractor said!" Nobody listens to you. If somebody said that about my business, I as the owner would want to know why. They were just very nonchalant, so it leaves me to believe that the contractor was absolutely correct. They are very interested in taking my money, but when there's a problem, they're really not going to fix it. Considering I've had them for three years, I don't know if I'll be paying again to renew it next year. However, when they make changes, some were for the better. For example, they made it easier where you now pay the service call and you should not have to give it to the technician. But, then again, they didn't communicate it to the plan people, or the people that were taking your money. They need to make sure everybody knew. The people who answer the phone are mostly really good too, and they do have some great customer service.

We wanted to start using the home gas furnace this year but it had a minor explosion during the ignition so we stopped using it. We asked for the service from American Home Shield and filing the claim on the phone was not good because of the wait time. The first time I tried that, it took one hour and 15 minutes. That was for a garage door problem and they helped me with that. But doing it on their website was really easy and awesome. When I had to talk to their reps, I had to explain my problem and they were very helpful. It took less than a minute to complete the whole process and it was efficient. They gave me the vendor's name then the next day, I contacted the vendor and they contacted me as well. We made the appointment then they came yesterday and fixed it.

The contractors who came out for those two claims were both professional and knew what they are doing. The first one for the garage door fix was very friendly and I really liked that. The second one was knowledgeable but we had a personality mismatch. When I asked him for a recommendation, he was a little cold or not very polite. But that was his personality. In terms of doing his job, he was excellent.

So far, AHS have addressed our claims correctly. But I wanted to know a bit more about how can you bundle and pay less. For example, they said that if I have multiple claims in the same category, like for microwave, fridge and dishwasher, I would pay the $75 deductible and they would address them all for this bundle. But when I was playing with their website to see what can be saved in case we need to wait and request maintenance at the same time, I tried to choose the bundle option for my garage door and the website said I could not combine it with any claim under any other subcategory. So that guideline was not clear to me.

It’s great having the peace of mind that if something goes wrong, I have coverage for all my appliances. When someone has to get coverage for all individual appliances, that’s quite expensive, and that all starts chunking up. We've been with American Home Shield for close to a year now, but we also had them when we were in Maine for 13 years, and I was very happy with it. It was nice to have all of our issues covered without having to go out there and try to individually pay for them, which is quite costly. Given that comparison, it’s very economical to use AHS.

Recently, there was a leakage in our air handler and it has been resolved. The tech replaced the tray, but then it cracked again so he had to replace it again. Also, AHS has a pretty good response time, but I have to try to do the claims online. If by phone, whether I call morning, noon, or night, it doesn’t matter. The whole times I’ve literally been on hold for an hour, and it’s awful. But that’s the only thing. Overall, I’ve been happy with AHS.

The motor of the fan that we put in the back bedroom had quit so we had a claim with American Home Shield and they put in a new one. It took a month almost to get it in because the tech had to order it. Getting it took a couple of weeks and then the tech was busy so he didn't have the time to bring it out for a while. We had a little trouble with this particular thing but most of the time, the contractors are good. Also, American Home Shield has started taking out the $75 from our ATM instead of checks. We had some trouble getting all settled which also took about a month because they said they had the wrong expiration date. We gave them the right expiration date and they took the money out but then they kept sending me a bill saying they didn't get it. Other than getting that straightened out, there's normally no problem.

I signed up with American Home Shield one year ago and I requested for service twice. And I've been satisfied both times. Recently my tenant mentioned that water was leaking in the hot water tank so I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and it's very effective. As soon as I submitted they just immediately contact me to schedule. I’m not living physically close to my tenant’s place and I used to have a housing management person but they never responded as quickly as American Home Shield did so it’s way worth using their company. I recommend it to my friends and I hope not to have any negative experience in the future.

But we still have to get it repaired and he has to come back. I'm doing some other work in my house right now, so he's waiting for us to get it done. My refrigerator is not going into defrost mode, and I'm still waiting for our repair to be done. Appliance Doctor came out for the refrigerator two weeks ago and the timer had to be replaced. American Home Shield actually told me the part was on order too, and I have heard zero from either company about the actual part that's being repaired. I'm having to thaw out this fridge once a week. I had to go buy coolers to put all my food in, as well as ice to fill the coolers with, and then take all the food out of the refrigerator, let it sit overnight, and unplug the refrigerator, so it thaws out. Plug it back in, and then put everything back in the fridge. It's inconvenient.

I could not go online yet as our account has not yet been set up because we had just purchased the home. When I called in, I was on hold for almost two hours trying to make the claim in the morning, until I couldn't stay on hold any longer. So, therefore, I called in the afternoon, and I was still on hold for two hours. The reps were courteous when I can get ahold of them. I'm going to have to call them again today to find out when this is actually going to be repaired.

My water heater went bad, and I was told by American Home Shield that they were going to replace my 80-gallon water heater with another 80-gallon one. They called me and told me that they were going to replace it ‘cause the plumber determined that the one I had was bad. And they said that there is something that wasn’t covered under my warranty and it’s going to cost me an extra $50, which was fine as long as I’m getting a 80-gallon water heater.

The very next day, the plumber told me that they’re only going to replace it with a 50. The original problem with American Home Shield was on Sunday so I called them back on Monday. And they said that they don’t replace 80-gallon water heaters. So I asked why I was told I was going to get an 80-gallon water heater and they couldn’t tell me. I was not happy about that. I had a $1,000 water heater and I got a $400 water heater in replacement. Then they said that they put something on top of it. It’s some kind of valve that’s supposed to make it act like a 80-gallon water heater. But the plumber that installed it said that this is not going to do anything to make it act like an 80-gallon water heater. When that happened, I started looking for other home warranty companies as soon as my contract is up with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield is a terrible company. I’ve had them for over 10 years now. I used them once. This was a couple of years ago and that went well. And then I used them for my air conditioner. I told them everything that was wrong with it over the phone and told them “We can do that.” They come to the house and my husband tells me he didn’t do what he was supposed to do.

Then the second time it was with the air conditioner again and same thing again. My husband tells them how he wants it to be done - the coils to be cleaned. He comes and he tells me he can’t do the coils. I’m like, “That’s not what you told me on the phone.” They told me that they can do the coils. Now, “We don’t do that. That’s not under your warranty thing.” So I’m like “You should have told me that.” That’s the rule.

Then he wanted me to pay so I’m like “I’m not paying the hundred dollars. You guys didn’t do what you’re supposed to do.” Then they called me up to tell me that I have to pay a hundred dollars and then they sent me a bill for hundred dollars, I’m like “I’m not paying a hundred dollars. You guys told me you’re going to fix it and you didn’t fix it so I got to call someone else to do it and I got to pay them. ” They charged my account that I pay $45.99 to. They charged the hundred dollars without my okay. I had to go to the bank. I had to put a stop payment on it and then I had to fight it to get the money back. I got my money back because they knew they’re wrong and I cancelled it right away. I’m very dissatisfied.

There was an issue with one of the burners on our stove and it wasn't level so I called AHS. I sat on hold the first time for 45 minutes and then I called back. I was ready to cancel the entire contract with them and find somebody else after several calls but they finally sent somebody out. They were very good but it wasn't quite fixed. So I called back and sat on hold for over two hours waiting for somebody. I got very tired of it and called back the next day, sat on hold for an hour, and that's when I discovered that because it was a recurring issue, I could do it online. They said they're waiting on getting payment from the title company, which in fact happened a week before.

Their reps said, "You don't have a contract with us but we see that it's in process. So we can give you a one-time service call until they get paid." And I said, "Well, how long does that take?" And they said, "Well that's up to the title company." I said, "Well the title company tells me they've paid you. So all I can go by is what the two of you are telling me and they conflict with each other." I asked to speak to a manager that could help me and the guy said, "Well, I am tech support. I am the manager." And I said, "You don't report to anybody?" "No." Going forward, if I have another issue and it goes that way, I'm just going to cancel. I was recommended by several people to them and I had been extremely surprised and disappointed with the service I've gotten thus far. I would have done better just paying the extra money for the contractors to come out and do it themselves. They were good but AHS has been less than pleasurable.

The first home I bought, I had a home warranty policy with Old Republic Home Protection. I was very satisfied, everything got resolved promptly, and there was always a genuine interest/good customer service to make sure things were repaired in a prompt manner. I renewed that warranty and everything continues to go well.

When we were buying our 2nd home, our realtor suggested I go with American Home Shield, she told me their policies are ranked best/stack up higher/offer better protection than others. So went with AHS, and I greatly regret it. I'm at a point where I'm probably going to cancel it early. I've had a couple important/urgent things break at the house, like having the sewer backed up/back flowing into the showers (major Gross unsanitary mess too). I made a request online, but in order to escalate it, I needed to call in. I waited 2hrs 17min on hold. The agent told me it's their policy to wait 24 hours before they can escalate the call. Well there is sewage flooding the bathrooms and the outside of the house. How does that not seem obvious that I need an emergency plumber.

Eventually after speaking with a manager, they gave me 'outside authorization' to use my own Repair company. So I called back the plumber they initially assigned (who they said I can use). It was a Saturday night, and he said he would only come out if I paid him for his services when they were complete (and then per AHS, would submit that for reimbursement).

Well it's all messed up/a scam. Because AHS doesn't pay for emergency service rates/work. And they denied my claim, so basically it ended up being all out of pocket. So why even bother to buy a home warranty when you have to be on hold for 2 hours each time, and then if it's an emergency Repair, you basically are forced to pay it out of pocket if you need prompt service.

So here I am, with another emergency issue, and I've been on hold for over 1hr 30min. They either purposely have such a long response time to discourage you from placing requests/getting proper resolution, or they just don't care? When I was with Old Republic Home Protection, I would get a live agent on the phone within 5 minutes. Even after hours it would be no more than 10. This is terrible service, all they do is find ways to deny claims, and I strongly urge home buyers or owners to stay far away.

I took American Home Shield thinking that it would be very convenient to get things fixed. But my experience with a refrigerator repair has been terrible - it's been over a month and they have still not been able to fix it. The technician comes out (twice already), diagnoses it incompletely, there was a long unexplained lag between the first work and the time they got the part (the contractor and the AHS blames the other for the lack of communication leading to the delay).

I am still waiting for them to fix it as I write this - technician said he does not know what to do, but AHS apparently asked them to order another part, and now I am stuck on a call holding for the past 30 mins, trying to get an answer from AHS on what their new solution is. Their wait times on the phone are typically a HOUR - what kind of business does that? It's been extremely frustrating to say the least. Another work order to fix the washing machine got done in a couple weeks time (technician comes within a few days for diagnosis, orders parts which takes a week or so, they reschedule the visit, which is another few days).

The refrigerator that was not cooling was the most recent claim we have submitted to American Home Shield. Their claims process was easy. The only difficulty was the time we submitted a claim for our AC. It was really hot, and it took a couple of days for somebody to come out because they said that there wasn’t anyone available. So, we were stuck in the heat in the house, which is not a good thing. I have a two-year-old and an eight-year-old, so I was really more so concerned about them. But they did say if somebody’s appointment was canceled, they would try to fit me in.

I had to wait three days and they’ve included the weekend, and then we had somebody out that Monday. When something goes out such as heat or the AC, they were not able to schedule something right away. We had fans in the house, so we cooled the house using the ceiling fans. But I was definitely glad when the AC was back on. But with the refrigerator, the service happened quickly. We had an appointment the next day. The contractor that did our refrigerator was great. He was professional, he worked on the problem, cleaned up the water and there wasn’t a mess left. It's working perfectly now, so I was happy.

I submit claims both through the phone and online but the online process is really quick. As soon as we submit the claim, we instantly receive a text message or a phone call. I also appreciate the phone call right when they’re in route and when they’re almost there. So, as far as staying on top of the scheduled appointment and calling us back and following up, it’s perfect. I was told that it was going to be very difficult to deal with American Home Shield and that I would have to fight to have my claims submitted and covered under the warranty. But I haven’t had that experience. Overall, they're professional, prompt and has very strong communication.

The American Home Shield's contractor came at the time he said he was going to come and looked at our HVAC system and the furnaces to see if they were putting out carbon monoxide. And in his opinion, they were not because the fire was burning blue. But he did not have his carbon monoxide tester tool with him so, he’s going to have to bring it back in the next days or next week to test it. He said there’s a part in the furnace that gets rid of excess gas and vents it out into the house. We have two furnaces and that unit was old and not working optimally in both furnaces.

So, he called American Home Shield and reported that and they said that they’d cover that, so he ordered those two parts. He stated that the parts would take 10 days to come out. And so, I said, “Well, I don’t want to wait that long to retest, so can you come out prior to that time to test?” And he said he would come out early next week to get his tool because he had forgotten it for today’s appointment. So, he’s going to come twice. He’s going to come back early next week, do the carbon monoxide testing, then he’s going to install the new parts, the induced draft generator, and then he’s going to test it again just to make sure that there’s no chance of carbon monoxide.

One of the things that I really don’t like about AHS, it’s that I can’t reach a human being when I call them. And when you call them, the little voice on the phone basically says, “Okay. Pick a device or appliance that’s broken.” And so, you have to pick something that’s broken, and then they’ll register an appointment with a plumber or an HVAC or whoever, and then they’ll call you to schedule something. But I don’t have the ability to speak to a human. I once was online for 45 minutes waiting to just talk to a human, and literally, they picked up, and like, “Hello? Hello?” And I didn’t say hello fast enough back to them, they hung up. So, I have a customer service with AHS in terms of speaking to a human.

The issue is I got a weird smell coming from the closet area in the bedroom, but I am not an expert. I don’t know what system is producing that. There’s a pipe that runs through that closet and the closet is in a room next to a bathroom. So, we had a plumber come out because we thought maybe it’s a sewage smell and the plumber said, “Well, I’ll fix the toilet because the toilet was not heated properly. So he did fix the toilet but he said, “I’m not allowed to look at anything else,” because the only thing I’m charging for is this toilet. And then he said, “I’ll look around,” and he went up and looked around. And he said, “There are no pipes that go through this closet.” It turns out in retrospect he was actually wrong because when the HVAC guy came out on our own dime he detects a pipe that was underneath the insulation. So, there’s a weird smell in the house.

We had the gas company out. They said it’s not gas. I don’t know where it’s coming from, but it is a gas-type smell. We thought maybe it’s a dead animal, but it doesn’t smell like a dead animal. It’s very distinct and it would decompose and go away eventually. But this has been an intermittent yet constant smell over the last couple of months. So, on our own dime, we’ve had another guy come out to do like an ozone generator thing. And that seems to have worked somewhat, but the ozone smell is interacting with the paint and the carpet liners to make even a weirder smell coming out of the carpet and the paint. So, that’s not been a really good solution either. We have a room in our house we cannot use because of the weird smell. It makes my wife nauseous.

I bought the home warranty to try to mitigate these issues, so it’d be really cool if I could talk to someone who would send multiple experts out to look at it and address the root issue. That’d be a deal. I don’t care if they rip the wall out, look in there with a snake camera. It’s frustrating from my perspective as a consumer because I’ve tried about four or five different things, and AHS is not responsive in a way that would be helpful to me. And there’s something like home restoration places that work on mold remediation. AHS could send somebody out or a team of people to assess it, figure it out, lock it down, cut a hole in the wall, detect, ground in there, and that would be awesome. Nevertheless, the service members who have come out have been extremely helpful, kind and nice, but they can only address the issue they’re allowed at best.

Hi, Kelli. Plumbing issues are the worst. If you are within your 60 day recall period, we can have the same company come out to evaluate the issue again. Your signature does not drive that action. I apologize if you were improperly informed. We will have a Social Media Specialist contact you to assist.

My lower heater went out. It wasn't heating and we need heaters in the house. We're not run down though and it was finally repaired last Wednesday. Eight days or so before that, I called in the claim to American Home Shield, and then the technicians came out right away. They were very good. They did their troubleshooting and I actually had a third problem with it. We figured out that the heat exchange was bad and as they went in, they found other issues that were bad with it. Now, the worst part of the whole thing was they could have picked the parts right up at Carrier local. But they had to wait for AHS, or whoever they ordered it from, and then it took them three to four days to ship here. And then, my repair guy had to go pick them up in order to do it, or I would have had heat a lot sooner.

AHS reps were good and considerate. But when the claim was made and they ordered the parts, they don’t give anybody a tracking number so we could see where they're at or maybe figure out a way to get them sooner. Their overall customer service was very good. I'm very pleased with their reps. But there's a little light on the heater if there's no sight gauge. So, when it would fault and the light would come on, it would flash. And if it flashed so many times, there's this thing in there that tells you what's wrong. But because of the issue I had, I had to turn the power up on because the heater was blowing cold air and not heat into the home. So, even with my fireplace on, it wasn’t really helping. So, every time I did that, it'd reset. So, when we finally held it long enough where they could come out and look at it, then we were able to go to the source. But they were very good at what they did and they were very concerned about doing the job correctly.

I've had AHS since 2012 on this particular home. I've had incidents where they did things that were wrong like shipping the part to Florida instead of South Carolina, and then saying it was here. But that was only at one time. Now, everything went as it should. They called and contacted me and let me know when the parts would be in but with no tracking number. I don't know the difference in the cost if it was much cheaper for them to get the part wherever they got it and had it shipped here rather than getting one local right here. That's what AHS need to consider especially when it's cold and the heat or air goes out. But other than that, I've been very happy with AHS. The heating contractor that they have now is much better than the ones I've had in the past. I would recommend them to a friend.

We got a home warranty when we first bought the house years ago. But I wanted to get another one and American Home Shield sent me an email. When I went back to back in the house one Thursday night, our water heater blew out and was spewing water out of the tank. It apparently had a hole in the inner tank. I submitted a claim through the AHS website because it was about 10:30 that night. On Friday, a young guy came out and looked at it but couldn't get back to us until Tuesday because AHS had to order the tank. They couldn't repair the hole so they replaced the water heater. But everything went fine. The plumber did a great job and was very professional. He took care what he was doing and didn't make a mess. Overall, my experience was simple, easy and timely.

We had a problem with the air conditioning not cooling down the house. We filed a claim with American Home Shield and the technicians came out right away and fixed it. They were probably in and out in 20 minutes and everything worked great since then. So I'm very happy with them. The only thing that I didn't like with AHS was their wait time. It was an hour and a half, and that is way too long to be on hold. When you schedule online you get a couple of the ones that people have nightmares with. And sure enough, the same thing happened when I schedule online. I have to call and wait on line and that way I get the company I rather have. AHS needs to give you a choice of companies to pick from and have a star rating next to them. So that way you can actually pick someone that other people have liked, and for companies that have lower ratings to get their acts together so they'll get better ratings. But overall, I'd recommend American Home Shield.

My American Home Shield experience was excellent. They did a great job and the people who came did a great job too. Everything was exactly the way it’s supposed to. We had a problem with the oven. It was broken and it wasn’t working correctly. We called and submitted a claim and I was pleasantly surprised and shocked how easy the process was and how smooth it went. The guy came out, saw what was wrong, ordered the parts, came back right on time, fixed it, and was gone.

We had a leak and I called American Home Shield directly. The agent I spoke with was fine and the contractor they sent out was responsive. He was able to stop the leak but he wasn’t able to repair the appliance. It was all very positive but the problem is too big to get into so I left it as is.

I only had one claim with American Home Shield. It started in July and it was just completed last week. As far as rectifying the problem, they continuously band-aided it until they had to replace the compressor on the air conditioner. Their contractor was responsive and on time. They scheduled well. On their first trip, they charged me for a pound of Freon, as well as the service visit. And then, within a couple of weeks, it wasn't working again. So, they had to come back out and they did something else but there was no replacement of any parts or anything that lasted for another month or two. Then, they came out and jumpstarted on it and that worked for a week. But within a week, it was acting up again intermittently, and not working throughout a portion of the summer. But it was our upstairs air conditioner, so it wasn't our primary air system.

We finally were nearing the end of the exploration of our warranty and I became more persistent about taking another call into them to get them to come and take a look at it. They came out within days of my warranty ending and determined that I needed a compressor. But all the prior attempts could have been avoided if they had just acknowledged that on the front and that was always the issue.

My experience with American Home Shield took a while to get my unit fixed. But, all in all, it was fine. Ultimately, I got my unit repaired. But I chose not to renew because I thought that the rate had gone up too significantly. When I originally bought it, it was $650-ish and they wanted $1100 to renew it for the second year. So, I opted not to because the compressor repair was probably a $1500 repair. So, by the time I paid for the Freon, and the multiple service calls that I had to invest in it as well as the first Freon shot, I probably put $800 in it. So, I've looked at the first year as a value, but didn't see the value in renewing.

I bought an older home so it's kind of scary and I needed them to come out and check it out for me and make sure the heating unit was going to work properly. I'm a single woman and I wasn’t sure if it needed to be cleaned that time. I submitted the claim online and it was the easiest to me. I only called out three times and every time it's been really quick and everything worked out fine. Also the contractor was very polite, professional, and did their job really quickly and got it started right up for me. He definitely knew what he was doing. He was very explanatory and showed me how to change the filter.

I bought a place in Central Village for my dad and the water heater got busted. I had dripping water so I called AHS and they gave me a plumber who called the last minute and said that there was a death in the family and he couldn’t come. The same company was rescheduled for the next day but they did not show. I called the company four times and they said they were coming and for me to hold on. It was so frustrating that I thought I had paid money for a nonsense service.

After a lot of calls, they finally told me that they'd give me the discretion to bring my own person in. I brought my own guy and he told me I needed a new heater. He then got me a new water heater and AHS reimbursed it. While the reimbursement took quicker than I expected, it was very very frustrating in terms of getting someone out there. Also, I’ve noticed that there seems to be a lot of confusion around whether something is covered or not.

I had another so-so experience with AHS with my air conditioning unit. One guy said that he was going to fix the unit but he only half fixed it. So I had to get another guy who did a good job fixing it. Overall, it's a hit or miss with American Home Shield. What I find curious is that the first plumber they send for my water heater. When I went online, they had the world’s worst reviews. And then I called in a subsequent time about another issue and AHS still had that name in their roster companies, which makes me wonder why they would even have that guy who doesn't go to appointments in their list of names.

The kitchen sink was clogged so I called American Home Shield up and they said, "We'll have a plumber you can contact." They contacted me and the plumbing company couldn't come out because something was wrong with one of their vans. And so it was going to be a couple of days. So I contacted plumbers in the area where I live because I can't live with a backed up kitchen sink with kids -- they just put everything in there.

I found one that could come out and I called the Home Warranty plumber back and I said, "Hey, I found somebody that can do the job." And they go, "Oh no, we have somebody that can come out." I go, "Well, in how long?" "He'll just be out there in 20 minutes." So I called the plumbing company back that I had scheduled and they showed up on time and they resolved the problem. They just had equipment failure and they got it fixed and they showed and did what they are supposed to do.

My kitchen cleanout was shallow and the technician didn't have anything to catch the water in the cleanout. But that's not his fault because he didn't know. So I loaned him a cookie sheet that he could catch all the water on so it wouldn't get on my kitchen cabinet. I would not say he's ill prepared but if he knew he's coming to something like that he should be prepared for it. But he was nice and friendly to me and the issue was resolved in a timely manner. I would recommend American Home Shield.

I had a leak in my shower and I submitted a claim online for its repair with AHS. In previous experiences, I've called them but I found that it takes forever or at least an hour every time you call. So, it's faster to do it online. When the contractor came out, they cut a few holes in the drywall and in the tile. When they figured out where the leak was coming from, they repaired the hole. Then, they dispatched a drywall repair person out and they fixed the holes in the drywall. The repair on the tile was not covered per the policy, so that's annoying, but it's not the fault of the home warranty. I have AHS for close to two years now and so far, my experience has been very good.

They sent someone to check it out and the guy made an assessment. After I had a hard time getting in touch with them, I called and asked them what was going on and I was told the claim was submitted and they were waiting to figure out what they want to do. Then someone came out and fixed the problem. Everything's working good.

I just called to submit a claim, gave them the information and they sent somebody out. It was very easy. I’ve had people out to take care of the plumbing issue five different times. And they kept telling me that it was the air condition. I decided I was going to find out exactly where the leak was from because when the air condition ran, I didn’t have any problems with the leak. So I turned the air condition off and I started using the bathroom that was right over where the water was so I found out that it was the bathroom. It was the bathtub and not the air condition by process of elimination.

Then the contractor sent by American Home Shield came out. The guy was professional. He listened to what I said. He investigated and saw I was right. He went right to it and fixed it. It took him about an hour. He stayed to run the water to make sure it was fixed. When it was fixed, he left. Since then, I have not had any problem.

I've been with American Home Shield for 24 years now and when you’ve been with a company that long, the only comment that I have is they don’t give any incentives for being with them for loyalties. Still, I have recommended people to American Shield because on a whole, I’ve had a good experience. The bad experiences that I have had have not been with American Shield, they have been with the contractors that came out.

There were two faucets that needed new cartridges and another faucet that was leaking. Submitting the claim with American Home Shield was fine. The plumber came out promptly and they said they needed to order the part and it took a long time. They said that they couldn't handle it because I have high-end faucets and they couldn't work on it. I didn't hear from them for a month so I called American Home Shield a couple of times and they sent messages to the plumber. The plumber never responded.

I contacted the executive office and they changed the company because she tried me to them as well and she said that she wouldn't use them anymore. The same contractor was assigned once before so I won't accept them anymore. So, she took them off the list and added up to change the plumber. I got the issue with the faucets resolved in two days. The faucets have been perfect and the executive office and the plumber that came out the second time were excellent.

The transmission in my washing machine was all rotted out, and it was time to replace it. So, I had American Home Shield come to fix it, and it went really smoothly. Everything was great. I called in at night, and they took care of it. They also said that they would come in 10 days, but they were here in six. The machine’s been nice since the repair. I’ve had American Home Shield for 18 years, and they’re efficient. When the air conditioner goes out, I can call no matter what time at night, and then they have someone out by the next morning. My heat pump went out, started making a big rattling noise, and was just blowing hot air. I let it go for a few weeks but it wasn’t getting any better so I called American Home Shield up. They then sent out a company that concluded that the compressor had gone out. He said that they would repair and replace the compressor which would typically be a $3000 or $4000 job and they were only going to pay $1800, and that didn’t cover permits. However, he didn’t address the other issues like the clanking. I was asking the guy who came here about the other issues, but he only seemed to send in a quote for the compressor. So, when American Home Shield contacted me, it was only for the heat pump and not the other issues. So, I researched the company that they sent out, and they had horrific reviews.

Why wouldn't they have other reputable companies on their roster rather than these shady ones which seemed to like to make claims about one issue so they can come back and fix the next one later? I opted not to have them touch my unit, and called AHS to ask what I could do, and wanted to have another better and more reputable company. I wanted to check if they would do anything else, and they said no. The only other option I had was cash in lieu, like a check. Plus, they only offered $801, which is pretty much only the cost of the part itself, not the labor. I didn’t understand why in a $3000-$4000 quote, with me paying $1800 would they only cut a check for $801.

AHS is only good for small appliances. They don’t want to do big repairs, only the little ones, and that’s exactly what I’m going to keep using them for. If they’re getting $31 a month from a consumer, and it costs $100 for a repair call, if you paid for a full year and call them once and pay the $100, you already pretty much paid for a new dishwasher. We are dissatisfied with AHS mainly because of the companies they partner with. I might have let them do it if I just trusted the people they were working with.

AHS insure things but not as much as possible, and you end up working with shadier companies. If they diagnosed the entire thing, they might have looked and said that there were a few parts that weren’t working right. I know a little bit about ACs, and they didn’t notice that there was a little fire that started on the hard start motor, which if it’s not working, or it blows out, the compressor will blow. And that’s what happened. My wife and I will probably go with Gilmore. It’s a reputable company.
