Called AHS for my garbage disposal and they sent somebody out when they said they would. The guy that they sent out was courteous and professional. He came out and fixed it. Since the repair, we’ve sold the home and I haven’t heard anything derogatory so I’m sure the disposal is running fine. I'd recommend having American Home Shield.

We own houses in Las Vegas but we live in California. My sister and her son handle both properties in Las Vegas for me when there's a problem so they are the ones who deal with AHS. She calls when submitting a claim and somebody responds within hours. She's happy with the contractors that come. They take care of the problem immediately and are very helpful in describing what’s wrong and what needs to be done. Every experience we've had has been very positive.

The technician that AHS sent out for my AC unit did a thorough job. He also gave me some pointers on some preventative maintenance problems which was a good thing. Nobody had ever mentioned it to me before so I appreciated that. And my AC unit has been working fine after the tech's visit. I also had an excellent experience in talking with their rep. All the people that I've dealt with have been very knowledgeable in what they were doing and they have always expedited my work. Always a good experience.

Our most recent experience with American Home Shield was similar to all of the others. Whether over the phone or by internet, we are assigned to a contractor right away. Rather than waiting for the contractor to call us, we make the call--and appointments are scheduled at times that are convenient for our schedule--sometimes the same day. Without exception, all of the contractors have called ahead of their arrival, are polite and respectful, have the equipment and know-how to get the job done, make an accurate appraisal, and either make repairs or order necessary parts for a second visit. Parts have been delivered promptly (usually within a couple of days), and the installation of those parts gets the job done.
We have had two instances where the repair was not completely satisfactory. On the most recent one, toilet tank parts were installed, but the tank had a leak that was not caught. A second call and visit resulted in the tank's being removed and fitted with new gaskets--problem solved, no additional charge. Overall, the American Home Shield plan has worked well for us. I have not kept a balance sheet, but I think our "insurance" payments have worked out to be pretty close to a break-even for the repairs we have experienced. We have had some single instances where the costs of repairs have exceeded our monthly payment totals for the year. The peace of mind is important--knowing that we have access to timely, respectful, professional help that will respond quickly to our problem and get it fixed at a cost that we know in advance.

We called because we had a problem with the refrigerator icemaker. The technicians called the following day and came on time. They worked for Sears and they seemed professional. They did their work, cleaned up, and left. It took a couple of trips to get the problem corrected but they got it working. It was a good and straightforward experience.

My recent claim with AHS was about my air conditioner and that is the only claim I filed in a couple of years. I had water that was coming from the AC and it was all over the floor in the basement. I was in Florida and this was going on at home, but I didn't have anyone who could be at the house so I called. When I was ready to come back from Florida, I submitted the claim and they came out on a holiday which was amazing because they didn't charge anything extra. They came exactly when I wanted them to come and re-diagnosed it and fixed it.

Overall it's been super easy to use AHS since I got it and I'll continue to keep it. I've already recommended them to friends.

First claim we put with American Home Shield is for a sump pump that stopped working and everything went fine with that one. I was able to interact with the repairman. He was good and down to earth. Spoke to me on my level, try to overcome a few things. He explained exactly what the issue was, showed the damaged part and how it could affect my house if I didn't get a repair and then he showed me how to install the new one--all the tricks and everything related to that particular piece of equipment. He gave me the owner's manual and documented the repairs for my records. Went over everything and he was professional and courteous about it. And then recently I put in a claim with them because our air conditioner is not working properly. We're having some serious issues with the way it would cool down our home. But we haven't been contacted yet by the repairman so I just put in a claim. It hasn't been resolved as of yet.
I called them on both claims and used the automated system. I wish they would've covered our dishwasher too but that's the way the policy is written. Other than that, everything's been great thus far. I'm hoping that they come through on my air conditioner claim because we've had some hot days here. And we could not able to get our house down below 83 degrees on a hot day and I got two kids. All in all the service and experience at this point has been very good. I hope it will continue.

Everything has been lovely and satisfactory and everybody was courteous. I got everything done in a timely fashion. My only big concern is that if two things in the bathroom are broken, it shouldn't be two separate incidents. I don't want to have to put a call in for the broken stoppers in my sink and for the wobbly commode. That’s $75 out of coverage just for the plumber doing a little thing. If something is broken in the kitchen, unless it's the stove and the refrigerator and the microwave, you ought to be able to do one bang for your buck. Other than that, they're good.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield has been an easy process every time. However, sometimes the problem is with the company they send out. The first year we've had two different people come out for the microwave. The Sears guy said the microwave was just too far gone and we ended up replacing it. So then another company came out and put in. It turned out the people who installed the microwave, installed it too low and there was no way to raise it up. Then there was a problem with the heater, and the gentleman they sent out first was a little inexperienced. But we contacted the company that night, and they sent out one of the owners and fixed it right away. I don't have a bad thing to say about them, it's the company they've used to come out and repair something.

I recommend American Home Shield. I had a problem with the outdoor plug by the front door and they quickly found the GFI for me in a very strange location. Then I had a problem with the smoke detector upstairs and the electrician also checked it out. He said I needed a new one, so he went over to pick one up for me. He found one that was almost identical or was of the same manufacturer, installed it very quickly, and was done. He also asked me if I needed anything else, so I told him I had a little problem with the three-way switch sometimes. We tried it out and it worked fine. So I said, "That's just the way it goes. A prepaid AHS warranty policy was part of the deal when we purchased a home back in 1999 and we've renewed it ever since. I think we did take 1 year off but we got back into it because they had replaced a few items that was 2 or 3 times more than the yearly membership. For the last few claims, I've been able to do everything online. The contractor assigned usually contacted me within 3 or 4 hours that very same day. If I filed the claim late at night, usually by 10 AM the following morning I got called by the assigned contractor. There's only been one incident where the contractor couldn't come out since it was a Friday afternoon and a holiday weekend at that. That wasn't AHS' fault though, that's just the way things work.
I've also had a couple of questionable things happen, like one of this year's calls. Our oven microwave, a one unit built into the wall which AHS replaced about 2 years ago, had a wire burn. AHS sent out a guy after my wife called them and the first thing he noticed was that the installers did not ground the unit, thus causing the return feed to melt the connections. Thankfully it was inside a metal box like it's supposed to be. They sent it back to AHS and I never heard anything else about it. I was hoping I can get back the amount I paid for that improper installation, but I didn't. I'm not gonna fuss about it but we could have had a serious fire had it not been in the proper metal junction box. I commend the guy AHS sent but still, I have no way of knowing that it was not a valid claim because the installers were supposedly trained at Sears.
We had to get things clarified when it came to the installation of the new oven microwave unit as well. AHS was concerned about replacing the unit with Jenn-Air because of the cost. But I told them I was flexible, as long as they replace it with a good name brand. Hence, they went with GE. But then again, they dragged their heels regarding this matter. We finally got that straightened up after about a week of sending pictures. Still, I have never had a real issue with AHS and I'd even recommend them.

The reps have always been very courteous and helpful. In general, the technicians have been very knowledgeable and helpful as well. The one time that I had a problem was when one of them showed up late, and was just sitting outside in his car on a phone call. I didn't realize he was the technician until about 20 minutes later. After he came in and did the assessment, he said something along the lines of it is not something that they do anyway; so, the whole experience was a waste of time. My A/C went out on June 9. I contacted AHS and they assigned Climate Zone Heating and Air. The company contacted me and said they would send out a technician and I told them my brother would open the door since I would be at work. We arranged the $75 service fee and any other applicable fees to be paid after the visit and over the phone with credit card. The technician came out a few days later and said that a fuse was blown. She changed the fuse and the company called me for credit card payment over the phone. I thought the transaction went smoothly. However, after waiting a few days, the A/C was still not getting any cooler.
I put in another service request with AHS on June 23 and they sent out the same company (Climate Zone Heating and Air). This time without a service fee charge. Again, I was contacted by the company to schedule a visit and since I would be at work we again arranged for any necessary payments over the phone. After this visit, the new diagnosis was a blown compressor. Parts had to be ordered and I would have to pay the $300 for the freon differential since AHS only pays $10/pound.
I received a call from AHS on June 30 saying that the part would be in within 3-5 day. I started calling Climate Zone on July 8 to inquire if the parts were in. They never answered the phone. After calling everyday, I finally heard from the company on July 13 to say they could come out the next afternoon. I again arranged to have my brother open the door for them since I would be at work with the same over-the-phone payment agreement. The next day, I didn't hear from them until 4:30, saying that they wouldn't be able to make it because of the storms in our area. That was understandable, so we scheduled for them to come back the next morning (July 15).
They came the next morning and asked my brother for the $300 freon replacement charge upfront. This was unlike the other two visits from this company, since the other times I paid over the phone. Because my brother didn't have the money on hand, the contractor left. When my brother told me they were leaving, I immediately started trying to contact the company. I called them every 15-30 minutes from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. with no luck. I then called AHS and told them that I no longer wanted this company because they did not seem to be very reputable. They don't answer the phone during normal business hours, they gave a bad initial diagnosis, and they have inconsistent billing practices. I was told that we couldn't switch since they have already ordered parts.
Since July 15, AHS has tried to call the company, email the company, they have forwarded my request for a new company to Contractor Relations. I have been consistently told that someone will get back to me. That has never happened. I've called customer service EVERYDAY and after 30 minute waits, I get a new customer service rep who I have to explain my situation to again. I have now been without A/C since June 9 (38 days), during the middle of the summer (90+ degree temps). I don't wholly blame AHS, but if they contract to companies that are not reputable and have no way to hold their feet to the fire then AHS is not the company that I want to do business with.

AHS home warranty came with the purchase of our house and we renewed it after it expired because we were so happy with it. Submitting claims to AHS has been good except when we had an emergency type situation. We had a busted pipe and it happened on a Friday, and they couldn't get anybody there until Monday or Tuesday. Meanwhile I had water running through my kitchen, and that would be $25,000 worth of damage. So I had to get somebody out quick. I have a homeowner insurance with another company so we ended up having to go to them and it only cost us a thousand bucks. But it was only the whole emergency situation that I couldn't use AHS so we had to go a different route.
Besides the emergency issue, everything's an easy process once something happens. So far the contractors AHS sent out have been great. It's been the same company because they had to come out for my AC and then they also do plumbing. So they bring them out here when we had another issue. We had a rough year and a half but we had definitely gotten the most out of our home warranty.

The AC Fan outside was not running at all, there was no ice build up due on evaporator coil and there was no water on the floor near furnace due to condensation. I called AHS and they gave contract to Alpine Heating and Cooling for repair. The technician told us that we would need to add "Refrigerant" to the AC. The AC which we have is brand new. It was installed less than 1 yr ago in 2014. The technician said that the cost of Refrigerant is $75 per lb and AHS will pay $10 per lb and the rest $65 per lb I will have to pay out from my pocket + Trade Service Fee of $100. The total came out to 8 lb of Refrigerant: $520 + $100= $620.
As the technician has diagnosed the problem, I authorize to go ahead and add Refrigerant. At the end of the work, the technician gave me a bill in which it was written that they have added R-22 Refrigerant. While my AC is brand new, which is Lennox Model 13ACX, which recommended to add R-410 Refrigerant. The Lennox company recommend to add R-410A Refrigerant which is a new standard for U.S. residential AC and not R-22 Refrigerant. This is most EXPENSIVE refrigerant out in the market.
You can find this information on Lennox website for AC Model 13ACX under Feature, following is written: "Environmental Responsibility: Chlorine-free R-410A refrigerant-meets the EPA's most stringent environmental guidelines." The R-22 refrigerant is EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE and also not compatible with my AC unit.
Consumer's Desired Resolution - I will appreciate if AHS can do the following: 1. Thoroughly investigate the problem. 2. Send some other company technician to look into my AC as incompatible Refrigerant was added into my AC. 3. Provide REFUND for this work, as the WRONG refrigerant was added which is most expensive and not compatible with my AC. Also for the headache I am going through now for this work.

We just purchased a new home 9 months ago and the seller included an AHS warranty. It is July in Augusta and our air conditioner unit quit working. It was 100 degrees in the house. When I contacted AHS for service, they assigned a contractor from Atlanta which is approximately 150 miles from Augusta. I called customer service at AHS and asked for a contractor who was closer. I was told they were the closest.
When I called the contractor, I was told that they had 1 person who lived near Augusta and the earliest he could get to us was in 5 days. (Did I mention that it was 100 degrees in the house?) It isn't like I live in the wilderness. Augusta is the third largest city in Georgia and there are hundreds of fine contractors in the area, but with AHS, my choice is limited to one guy. Additionally when I checked with the Better Business Bureau, I discovered the contractor assigned to me had a "C" rating. P.S. I called a local contractor with an "A+" rating and they were there within hours. So far as I'm concerned AHS is worthless.

I called American Home Shield since my washer was catching fire and it scared me. Everybody in the claims department was very helpful. It took a little while to get to a representative, but when they did, it was good. The contractor they sent to my home the last time was the best we’ve ever had. He was very thorough in what he did. I ended up replacing the washer since it would cost more to have it fixed than it would be to replace it and paid extra to get an upgrade. I’ve been very pleased. I’d recommend them.

I've had AHS now for a couple of years and every single time the reps have been very professional and very helpful. The contractors have been very good, too. One of the first times I used AHS's service was when I had an issue with my air conditioner. At first, I had a leak in my ceiling and I didn't know if it was plumbing or air conditioning, so I called it in. I told them that I had looked above the area where there was a leak and I found out that there is a bathroom. I checked the bathroom and the water, and there was nothing showing that leak. So they sent a plumber. The plumber came out and said it wasn't his problem and that it was the AC. The AC guy came out and said it wasn't his problem, it's the plumber's. So it went back and forth for quite a while with that but eventually they did get it fixed. But they've all been very good. In fact, I have recommended AHS to friends.

One morning I lost all hot water for my house. I wasn't worried as I had the American Home Shield Warranty. I requested service through the website and the assigned plumber promptly contacted me. He came out to my house and after inspection, told me that the water heater had to be replaced because it was leaking. He then contacted AHS to get authorization for the replacement. After a long time on the phone, he said the AHS agent needed to talk to me. I was informed that my share of the cost would be $785.00, on top of the $75 for the service call. What? I thought I had coverage. I was informed that the extra cost was for items not covered such as bringing the installation up to code. My house is an older house, maybe 30 years old, but it was built to code at the time.
The most expensive item was the installation of a thermal expansion tank which would cost $475.00! I called around after the plumber left and was quoted $230/310 from 2 different plumbers. I called AHS the next day and after waiting over an hour, talked to somebody in the authorization department. After bring told that I was not covered for the thermal expansion tank, I asked about the high cost. I was told that the cost was between me and the plumber. Hello? Who's customer am I? As AHS's customer and since the plumber was contracted to AHS, shouldn't AHS be involved? This means that I am left to the mercy of the plumber who is probably charging me more than he's charging AHS.
The same thing happened to me a few months ago when I needed service for my central air conditioning. I was informed that I needed Freon. AHS would only pay $10 for each pound while I was charged $40 extra per pound. I called AHS to complain about the cost because the air conditioning company was in fact charging $50 per pound of Freon when the market rate was less than $30 and, as in this case, I was told that AHS has no control over the cost charged. Something is wrong with this formula. I am AHS's customer. They should have guidelines or a fee schedule on how much their contractors can charge. If you have an older house with older appliances, which incidentally is when you needed the warranty the most, you will be paying a lot extra for service and replacement. I cannot believe that AHS's position is that their contractor can charge whatever they want!

Throughout my seven wonderful years with American Home Shield, I've never had any problem with them. I moved up here from California, and ended up in a house that had a lot of issues, not realizing it's because we had a bad inspector but they pick the best local people to send out. They send out the same plumber here and he's done wonders with my house. I usually talk to somebody within a minute or two whenever I call them. They're wonderful. I even signed up for it for my mother for one year, but she didn't want to pay for it because she's had issues with plumbing. I've never had such good luck getting things fixed in my life.
My most recent claim was for my dryer. I didn't know it played music when it was done and now it does. The contractor was great and wonderful. He was from Sears in Olympia, and was very nice and calm. He explained to me what was wrong and went through everything. He wanted to make sure every single thing about it was fine. He went over it to see if there were any other things that needed looking at, making sure that the vent hose didn't have anything building up in it, like any lint screen, checking all the little buttons to make sure everything was fine. He was here for an hour and fixed it.

I recently purchased a house. The previous owners placed an old, barely functional refrigerator in the kitchen before the sale. I immediately noticed one problem with the fridge, then another, and another... I've called AHS repeatedly and have had four visits by various service people so far. The refrigerator is now leaking periodically and is ruining my beautiful hardwood floors, which AHS will not cover. The latest repairman agreed that the refrigerator was clearly defective. He couldn't figure out why it was leaking every few days, but said he would try something else to see if it might work on the leak.
In the meantime, he suggested I leave a towel under the fridge (which I've been doing), but a wet towel just lying on the floor will also cause big damage to wood floors. And we haven't even dealt with all the other problems of the refrigerator, such as a non-working ice maker. Anyway, AHS will not replace the defective refrigerator. And they will charge me again to deal with other issues, such as the icemaker. I tried to escalate, but there is no immediate escalation at the company. Just a stone wall. I'd have to wait 24 hours for a call. Unacceptable. This used to be a good company. Now, it's an absolute nightmare to deal with. This is one unhappy customer.

It’s probably the wiring in the house that they didn’t wire right, and I know nothing about wiring. And again I’ll just wait. I can’t get a response except for the appliance repair. My dishwasher panel went out and I called them and boom, the guy showed up. My dishwasher worked. They stink. If it was an appliance, they get this fixed. This last contractor was terrible and I don't feel anybody in American Home Shield really went to work on my behalf so I am frustrated about that. When you call their reps, they generally answer your questions and show you how the process works but as far as making your claim a priority, I don't get that feeling.
Moreover, the contractors came out but they didn't do everything in the beginning. The air conditioning was leaking and he only fixed part of it, and then come to find out he went up in the attic. I called him back directly and he told me that the floor was really wet and it's gonna take some time. It felt like he was saying that he's not gonna do anything extra. Then, he said he was gonna call me and he didn't. I called him back in and he didn't want to come back out so I was upset. I sent multiple emails to them to let them know this is ridiculous. Not even attempt to offer that they will contact the AC guy to expedite the process. In reality, the blower is a common issue with the AC. It is not a rare issue or hard to find part. It shouldn't take that long to get. When I asked to talk to the duty supervisor several times, the agent said their company doesn't have the on duty supervisor. With that I leave the judgment to you whether this company is an honest company and trust worthy to deal with. Save yourself some troubles and hard earned money. Do not deal with this company if you need to buy a home warranty for the peace of mind. I'll sure share this experience to everybody I know, and everywhere on web if I come across this company.

We had a plumber come by a year ago but this was our first major interaction with AHS and it was fantastic.

We have been waiting on repair of our air conditioner since the 22nd of June. The company originally assigned could not find the problem in two visits. After the 2nd visit the unit caught fire in the attic. AHS requested another service provider to diagnose the problem since the first company could not find it. The unit actually has two problems - it took 2 supervisors offering no help and 7 hours on the phone in 4 phone calls after 10 days of no air to get it reassigned. The burned up part of the unit was replaced but only fixed part of the problem. The original problem, which caused the unit in the attic to burn up, is with the compressor. It has been diagnosed by the 2nd company, however, we are on day 8 of waiting for the parts to arrive.
I have called multiple times getting a different answer with each phone call. Have requested cash out info only to have them tell me the first time it wasn't an option and the 2nd time they called they left no message so there was no way to call them back. Waited 4 days for them to call about the cash out. We are in Texas 100 degree heat, no air since 6/22/15. Have to move my kiddos out on the really hot days because they can't breath and I was told by AHS that they would give me $75.00 for a window unit in the interim. Once customer service rep told me that is just how it is done and that she is also a customer and has to wait for service. I have asked if we could expedite shipping on the part only to be told no. I have been told it is coming for NC and also Louisiana, told it is now in the DFW area only to find out today, it has not left the manufacturer's dock. No one can give me tracking info.
Every phone call produces a different story. Meanwhile a 10 year customer, who has not missed a premium payment is not getting the service provided in the contract. We are in the middle of selling our house. We cannot close until the repairs are done. We will not be recommending AHS to the buyer and have filed a complaint with the BBB. I have researcher assigned to my case whom has not contacted me in regards to the unfinished repairs or the complaint.
Thank you for making us aware of this issue, Lisa. Our apologies for the inconvenience this has caused. Your complaint will be forwarded to your case manager.

Everything was perfect - great neighborhood, perfect size, wonderful yard, excellent location, all the rooms painted, wood floors, etc. BUT the appliances and heat/air systems were all old (heat/AC was 25 years). All working fine but I thought "for how long?" So when the opportunity arose to cover my bases I took advantage and signed up and have not regretted that decision. I have used them twice now and they have. So very pleased with the prompt professional service! I continue to renew my contract each year.

No complaints about that but I'm not really happy because now our toilet is running again and when I called them back this week the lady said, "Well, it's more than 50 days so you have to submit another claim." That's ridiculous. I'm not going to do that. Nonetheless I don't consider that necessarily poor quality work. The most recent claims I had with AHS were for plumbing, AC, and electrical issues. With the electrical, they sent a guy whom I worked with before. He had to cut a hole through my house and they have to send over sheetrock guys. With my plumbing claim, the vendors came out great. I paid the guy, but for some reason, they never updated with American Home Shield. So AHS said that I owe them $75. I have to call both the vendor and AHS about 4 times for them to finally resolve it. I had a good experience with ACS, the vendor they sent for my AC claim. At first AHS didn't assign me to them but to another company called Air-Trend, and I tried to contact them 4 times, but they never replied. So with frustration, I called AHS and asked for ACS.
In the end, they came out and took care of the job for me. I just wish we have an option to request for the same vendors to come back again instead of being assigned to mixed vendors, and you may run into some that you don't know of. Overall, I'm pleased with the service that they provide. I've been with them for 7 years and they take care of the service. I would say I would give them B+, because of a situation with the option of selecting the vendors. The only thing that I need to complain about is they don't have the option to select the vendors especially if you like the best there is from prior experience.

I've had AHS for quite a while and I liked it better before. Their copays are quite hefty, $75. It's fine but I preferred them a few years ago. They kept calling me and saying we have to do automatic withdrawals. I'm not enforced but I have been making payments for years to American Home Shield, on my own, and so there was confusion there. And so, I finally just disregarded their emails and phone calls. I just keep paying them each month. But I finally did sign up for auto-draft because they wanted it that way. Their amounts are reasonable; it's just gone from $47 to $48.
I recently contacted them for a plumbing problem in our kitchen. The contractor that they sent was excellent and outstanding. But I think the expertise and the quality of the people answering the phone when I submit a claim could be a bit higher. But other than that, I'm happy with it. I used to sell real estate and I would always tell my people to go to AHS.

Does anyone have stainless steel appliances in their kitchen anymore? If you are covered by an American Home Shield warranty, be prepared to come up with several hundred dollars to get a stainless steel appliance if you have a covered failure. AHS will offer you a black or white version of your failed appliance. They'll tell you it's in your contract. Yes, it is - they don't guarantee for color. What do you think about AHS and their policy? If you have a stainless steel kitchen, like many of AHS's clients do, do you think that is the policy they should have? It's stainless steel. It's not purple. It's current and popular.
So now that I know about the stainless policy, should I renew my contract with AHS? If I have another appliance failure, it will cost me another few hundred dollars to get stainless. If you have a similar situation, just make sure you account for that in your calculation when deciding whether to purchase. Just add several hundred dollars to the cost of the contract - that's your real cost for the coverage if you have a stainless steel appliance failure. Also, check your contract for refrigerator coverage - it was curiously left out of my coverage. I have been asking to speak to a Manager for 3 weeks. No one has the decency to call me back. It's your decision whether or not to do business with AHS, just make note of these points.
Hello David, We understand your concerns in regards to coverage. That is correct, we do not match colors when approving appliance replacements. However, we do offer homeowners to make purchases through our discounted Appliance Purchasing Plan. Refrigerator coverage is optional and is only included when the homeowner requests to add it to the warranty at the time of sign up or renewal. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.

As an AHS policyholder, I filled a service request in April to have a fridge repaired. A vendor called & set an appt for Apr 9. I gave them my cell # and requested an in route call so I could meet the tech at my home. Appt window was for 11-3 (cable style appt). Just prior to 3 o'clock I had not rec'd a call, so I called them and was notified the tech had already gone to my residence, but left as there was no one home. I asked why my cell phone wasn't called as instructed. They said they did. VM on home phone from vendor saying they were on their way. Honest mistake, reset the appt for next day. Same result. No cell call - called back - tech already went out - no one home - said they called cell - reset appt. Dispatcher rude. Really!? VM on home phone......dispatcher rude on msg. AHS will not assign another vendor.
Finally a few days later, get cell call for appt and meet tech. Write check for $75 service fee. It's cashed that day. After 6 weeks, 3 more service calls, and two rounds of ordering parts, fridge got fixed on May 22. (6 weeks total) Not happy, but moving on. July 13: water leak upstairs and dripping downstairs on wood floors. Try to file claim, but can't as I have an unpaid balance. Turns out it's a missed appt fee of, you guessed it, $75. Was never informed, invoiced or asked to pay any other charges... and these people do NOT forget to get paid. I wouldn't have paid it, but not relevant.
Now I am being held hostage to pay this fee before I can file a claim. Principle alone says tell them to, well, I can't say that on here. So I am forced to pay this rude non-instruction following erroneous charging vendor before AHS will get off dead center and honor my policy. I could bite a nail in half right now. Tomorrow I will pay what I consider to be a spite fee, and file my claim. But rest assured, this is not over. Not sure what course of action to take, but I'm sure whatever I do, my wife will have to approve it. Very angry and dissatisfied to say the least. Done with home warranty co's.
Hello Cliff, Thank you for sharing your experience. We will have a case manager research this matter with the service fee and contact you.

I have carried a policy with AHS since 2007. Every year the rates go up and the service fees go up. Additionally, my most recent experience is with a refrigerator that stopped cooling. It happened on a Saturday, AHS did not schedule a service call until Monday and I had to wait until Tuesday for the Service Tech. He called on Wednesday and stated he had the parts but since my fridge was unplugged and not cooling he wouldn't come. He would come on Friday, he said. Thursday, I called to verify the Friday Appointment. He became belligerent and stated he couldn't come on Friday, but would come on Monday. Wouldn't give me a time. I asked AHS for a manager to call me on Tuesday and again on Thursday.
I am still waiting to speak with someone (it's the following Monday). My service technician also has not arrived, nor has he called. But he has most certainly told AHS after I have called him numerous times that he came by and I was not home. AHS is in the process of finding a new technician. "It will be tomorrow" they say before they can even find someone and then they will have to come, look at the appliance, and order parts again. I have been without a refrigerator for almost 10 days now with no end in sight. AHS will not cancel or refund the trade fee even though this tech is not completing the work.

Well OK, I waited over the July 4th weekend. It got assigned to REO Mechanical out of Sacramento, They have never called to schedule. I have emailed AHS customer service 4 times and have yet to receive a callback. I have tried calling and constantly got the on hold recordings, made the mistake of calling the status department after 7:00 too, they go home at that time. I am currently waiting on hold, has been about 40 minutes now. I am a Real Estate Agent, this is my OWN home that I want service for. Our office uses this company all the time. Thinking about this - Yeah!! They just came on the line. So, REO Mechanical got this request on 7/6/15.
Today is 7/13/15 and the only reason they responded is because AHS got them on the phone. Yes, one week later - they do not have any open spots until at least FRIDAY - maybe - wow... That would be 11 days later and they want me to pay OVERTIME RATES. Extremely disappointing, I let AHS know that I do not even want to do business with REO Mechanical, they would have never called me. I am back to square one on waiting for the ticket to be assigned.

AHS has unacceptably long phone queue wait times. Additionally, AHS does not ensure covered appliances are repaired within AHS service contract time-frames. I purchased my AHS "shield complete" service contract in May 2015 when I purchased my house. On Thursday July 9, 2015, I called AHS's area code 800 repair service number to request service for my Frigidaire refrigerator. After waiting in the AHS telephone queue for 20 minutes, with no idea how much longer I would have to wait to speak to an agent, I decided to submit the service request via the AHS website. Several minutes later (at 10:06 AM) I received an email reply advising SEARS had been assigned as the AHS service contractor for my refrigerator repair and to expect a call from SEARS within 24 hours.
At 6 PM on Friday, July 10, I was contacted by SEARS, who advised their first availability to send a repairman was July 24... 14 days away!!! The AHS contract states the AHS assigned contractor is supposed to show up within 48 hours to effect the repair. I mentioned this to the SEARS representative who told me that I needed to contact AHS directly if I was dissatisfied with the repair appointment SEARS was offering me. I immediately called AHS to complain. I was told that my service request was being referred to the AHS dispatch department, who would locate another repair contractor. I was advised that I would hear from them shortly (Friday? Saturday?).
On Monday July 13 at 10:30 AM, I contacted AHS to follow up on the status of my service request. After waiting in the AHS telephone queue for 30 minutes, I finally spoke to an agent who advised that "dispatch" probably would not contact me before Tuesday (they have 48 hours to work on my issue and apparently don't work weekends). I asked to speak to a senior customer service representative to see if action could be expedited and was transferred back into the AHS telephone Queue. Fortunately, I had asked for the senior rep's phone number, so I hung up and called that number. After explaining to the senior representative all that had transpired, I was told that SEARS was the only contractor on AHS approved contractor list for the area where I live. I was told I could either accept the SEARS appointment or find my own repair contractor.
However, if I wanted AHS to reimburse me for any portion of the repair cost, the contractor I chose must call AHS before effecting repairs to gain AHS pre-approval. I contacted two well known, well respected local appliance service companies... both said they could have repair techs visit me tomorrow... but neither company was willing to deal with AHS in any fashion, even after I told them I would pay them directly. So, after several unacceptably long waiting periods in AHS's telephone queue and after talking to several AHS agents, I still have a broken refrigerator which I must either live with until SEARs arrives July 24 or pay for the repairs myself. AHS should have several contractors on their approved contractor lists for all service areas. Presently, service in my area is at the mercy of AHS's sole contractor (SEARS). AHS must also act to reduce the unacceptably long wait times in their phone queue.
Hi Keith, Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience you had with your warranty service. Our apologies for the delay in getting your refrigerator repaired. A case manager is available to assist you.

I call again and no answer or no return call updating the status of my work order. I call AHS and they get a hold of the vendor and he said that he wasn't going to make it to my house. The customer service agent explains to me that the next person can't come until Monday because AHS doesn't make its vendors work on the weekend I explain to the customer service agent that says "well that's a different problem"; however on their website there isn't even an option to inform them that the water had been shut off.
I speak to a supervisor who says that they can get someone to my house in 24 hours. No one shows up. So I call again because no one has called me and I find out that no one is coming on the day I was told someone will be there. The next customer service agent tells me that someone will come on Monday. Not once did someone from AHS ever call me to follow up on services promised nor their chosen vendors. To begin with the hold time to place a service request with AHS is a MINIMUM of 40 minutes - today I have already exceeded 60 minutes and still no agent. Secondly, if you're wondering why I didn't place my request online it's because - despite the hold message stating it can be done - it CANNOT be done. So I am forced to call and wait on hold. Thirdly, the plumbers they send have, over the course of 11 months, failed to fix a simple toilet leak. They fixed one in fall 2014 and created a new one. Then when I followed up they insisted it was my shower panel - it was not.
Eventually they cut into my 1st floor ceiling drywall just to confirm I needed a new flange. I guess just removing the toilet would have been too direct, so I now have 2 holes in my ceiling. The leak from their newly paced shut off valve has now recurred and I can't reach an agent... In case you are wondering the plumbing company is called Elite Plumbing and they are anything but. I love American Home Shield. I've actually been with them for so many years. They're good at giving information about what is covered but you have to take the time to read it. I don't know what more they could do to help people understand. There's a big difference between a mechanical failure versus something that is poorly installed. Unfortunately, people don't really know those situations to have somebody come look at them. I know a lot of people get mad because they call AHS and they pay the service fee, but the people AHS send can't really fix it because it's not a warranty item. Unfortunately, that's just a part of having a home warranty - you take that risk. If something is not covered, you still got to pay the fee. I don't know if that helps or not but I'm not complaining at all. Every homeowner in America needs to have American Home Shield.

So they sent another service company, which I think is a good company but they have yet to repair my ice maker. So I'm not sure what's going on, if they need proper authorization.
But AHS have been great. They've done everything they're supposed to do. The only problem is their process of doing things--in other words, when they diagnose the problem, and then they have to call you, you then have to order the parts. The parts are sent to me, then the service company comes and repairs, but the problem with that is they sent the wrong part a couple of times. I don't think it's done intentionally but the process really needs to be improved. Other than that, they are a good company and I would recommend them to anybody.

I filed a minor claim for the toilet that was running on by itself. It was okay but all my issues weren't addressed because I had a jetted bathtub that wasn’t working. And when I was told that could not be fixed because they didn’t have access, they said they would have to cut a hole in the wall behind the tub in order to get at it. So I still don’t have a functioning tub. I also filed a claim for my electric water heater. It needed a new hose because it was dripping and they fixed that. There was also a time I called for the special filter of my air conditioning because of allergies, but they said it wasn't covered so I was disappointed. However what I like about AHS is that they were nice and clean and I am happy with them.

My air conditioner had lost coolant and I had noticed a couple days before that it makes a funny noise when it gets low on coolant. Once that happens and it starts freezing up, I turn it off and once it thaws out, it might run for another eight hours and then do it again. I had no problem submitting a claim at all with AHS. After I submitted it, within four to six hours, the technician called me and scheduled the appointment within two days. Technician came, filled it, and cured the problem. It seems like every couple of years, I have to do this and they put a stop leak in it. It still doesn't completely solve the problem but it's working fine for now.

It was my first time submitting a claim with them and it was a good and extremely easy experience. I put in an internet call for repair and a young lady got back to me right away. The first company that she had taken me to said that he couldn’t get to me for a week. She said, “Oh well, hold on. Let me find another one that’ll be able to get to you tomorrow.” And she did. The contractors were great and were very professional. They showed up when they were supposed to and spent all the time that was necessary to fix the problem. Everything’s worked perfectly since then. I’ve been with American Home Shield for quite a while now on numerous houses. I’ve renewed a new policy on another house that I had. And I’ve recently just sold that house so I’ll be transferring that onto the new owners.

Our central air has been on & off working since late May/early June. Each time it seems to be on the weekend & under AHS no call to the contractor until Monday. The last outage before this current one was on 7/3/15 so that required us to wait until 7/6/15 for them to come out, which happened to be on my husband's off day. They came out on 7/7/15 which happened to be during my work from home day to "fix" the issue. But it's now 7/12/15, 2:30 am & it's 80 degrees in the house. When the thermostat is set to 75 degrees, nothing but hot air blowing!!! Of course the contractor won't be called until Monday & another day of no air conditioning. And either my husband or myself is going to need to take off work to get this issue resolved. I am beyond frustrated!! We have a young child & this just simply isn't acceptable!!

The most recent claim I've had with American Home Shield was an electrical issue. I submitted it online and got an immediate notification that they had assigned it to a company via email. A couple of hours later, I got a call from the company. They set up an appointment and it was about three days so I had to wait for them. The guy got there and within 45 minutes to an hour had found the problem and fixed it. The performance has been perfect since the repair. No problems.

The last claim we had with AHS has been difficult. I first had them out May 28, and they fixed it. Recently the air conditioning unit wasn't cooling. So I tried to call again, but the hold was so long that I finally went online and requested service. They sent a company but it wasn't the same company that was here before. So the technician couldn't fix it. He said that I had to call the first company back. Monday came and I hadn't heard from the other company, so I called and they put it in through again. From Thursday morning through Wednesday afternoon I don't have an air conditioner. It's not been good this time.
They also told me it was my fault for not calling and going online. I had to pay the second service charge because of that. They told me they'd give me credit for half of it. But the whole time I was on hold the recording says, "Go to our state of the art website to request service," and so that's what I did. It is disappointing to me that they were pretty adamant that I was wrong in going online. I also just think their recording features state "if this is a recall then you need to call". However, this is the first time that this has happened and it doesn't make me happy. On the contrary, prior to this, the technicians have always been good. I never had a problem with them.

American Home Shield sent one guy here in May to put a belt on my washing machine. Last week, I put some water in. I was going to wash something and... I just ran and screamed with bad things. Finally they came out yesterday and told me that it was going to cost $389 to fix it, but they didn't know if they wanted to do that or buy a new one. So I called them and said, "Look, I'll buy a washer if you'll give me the credit of the repairs," and they said they would. So I went out, bought one, and waiting on their refund.
I’ve been a real estate agent and I’ve used American Home Shield for years and have never had any complaints from anybody, except for my daughter. She lives in a condo and the duct work goes straight up the wall and then outside. It was plugged but we couldn't get it unplugged, and it wasn't up to code. We have been a paying customer of American Home Shield Warranty Service Company for probably over Ten Years. During this period of time, we have had a few service requests and almost every time, there was an issue in getting prompt service reply. Now, the latest one is really the worst violation of their contract. Before I go further, to get someone on the phone every time I have called, I spend no less than 2 hours traversing their system and being placed on hold.
On July 8, 2015 we had called up to make a service request because our HVAC was not working properly. AHS replaced the HVAC less than two years ago themselves, but when I called them, they had no record of that and told me to place a call the next day. When I called the next day, they assigned a different case number. The first one on July 8 was ** and the new one was ** and was assigned a company by the name of JazzAir. At the time of the Service Request AHS was inform that there is a major health concern pertaining to one of the occupants having severe Asthma. The company that they assigned is some distance away rather than the company that is in my backyard and is the same company that installed the current unit.
I was informed that a service person would be here on July 10, 2015 at 10:00 am. We waited until 1:30 pm to call and ask where is the technician. At that time we were told that he was already here and knocked on the door and no one answered. The problem is that this is an Apartment Building and they were told it was an apartment building. Even show it in our address. We are on the third floor in the rear of the building. There are button directly to the left of the door which is the only way to indicate that someone is outside needing to get in. During the time that the technician was here, we did not receive a phone call from the technician, the service company or AHS nor did we see a business card or something that would indicate that he was here.
At that time, I was informed that someone would get back to me to resolve this issue, but first it has to go to a customer service agent and that might take 24-48 hours. By resolving this issue, they want to first talk to the company that sent the technician first to determine whether they should refute my statement or not. They are not trying to send out another technician while they do this research. Meanwhile, we are still without much needed air. Repeated calls end up with the same answer and the people that you talk to, including their supervisors are very cold and non-responsive to the problem. THEY ARE ALSO NOT CONCERNED AT ALL THAT THEY ARE IN VIOLATION OF THEIR CONTRACT WHICH STATES THAT SOMEONE WILL RESPOND TO THE SERVICE REQUEST WITHIN A 24-48 HOUR PERIOD.
American Home Shield is certainly not a company that I would recommend to anyone. Their service concerns when it come to customer relations is in the sewer!!!

Most recent claim was for my HVAC unit when my AC had just stopped working. I did everything online, it was very convenient. AHS sent me the contact information as far as phone number and the name of the business. My issue is that they did not call as AHS said they would. And every time I called, the phone would ring and ring and ring, and I would never get the chance to leave a voicemail or anything. Through that process I could not submit another claim because I was already assigned to a contractor. Then I called AHS to speak to their customer support. I had their customer support actually give the contractor a call and they weren't able to get a hold of him.
So the second contractor who came out made the determination that the motor needed to be replaced. They did fix the motor that I had on site. They reset that and it worked for about a day and a half, then it turned off but I was aware we were waiting on parts, which took between 3 to 10 business days. When the part came in, as promised, the technician came out when called, and everything’s working fine ever since.

I did have to pay the $100 service fee. Ok, fine. I understand that too.
,
Finally got to talk to a rep. Again, they apologized and I got my $100 back. Long story short, this happened 4 times! 4 times they illegally took $100 out of my account without my authorization! $400 they tried to take from me! So I call to cancel my account. Another hour on hold. I talk to a rep and she told me that the cancellation department was very busy and she would have them call me back within 24 hours. 4 days later I receive a voice mail message from American Home Shield and they told me that they were canceling my account and that they would be charging me an early cancellation fee.
So now they cancelled my account without my authorization. Then I had to call them again. ANOTHER HOUR ON HOLD! Finally got through, cancelled my account and they told me there was no cancellation fee. I told them about my voice message saying they were going to charge me. But they said that was also a mistake. Come on American Home Shield, get yourself together! Bottom line this whole fiasco costed me about $60 in over withdraw fees from my bank because of the multiple unauthorized withdraws and I spent a good 6 HOURS on hold. American Home Shield is a sham. After noticing water pressure fluctuations in our home we contacted our local water company. They diagnosed that our water regulator was not functioning. I then attempted to contact American Home Shield with whom we have a contract for our home warranty. After waiting for 35 minutes on hold without ever reaching a human being I hung up. I then attempted to use their online chat program and learned that their chat personnel are unable answer basic questions. I then used their web form and picked the word "leak" which didn't correspond to our situation but at least involved water issues. A plumber arrived today and said we needed a new water regulator. He called us after he contacted AHS and said that AHS would pay for the regulator, but not the cost of connecting the top and bottom water pipe to the new regulator which is an additional $285 on top of the $75 standard fee.
AHS claims that is a "modification" that they are not responsible for which is absurd since water must flow through a water regulator. I spent an additional half hour on hold and on the phone with AHS personnel today and they were horribly unhelpful and obviously trained to deflect the customer. AHS seems to deliberately understaff their claims dept and go out of their way to make communication with their customers difficult and time consuming. We have a contract with Fidelity National Home Warranty on our other home and they answer their phones promptly and are always courteous, polite and helpful. In fact, I called them today to discuss combining my accounts. American Home Shield's poor customer service appears strategic to this customer.
