I have had AHS for 10 years and being in the insurance business I have referred many customers to them as in the past they have always fixed what was needed. However that being said I have had to call them out on my AC many times as the system will not cool and every time they send a rep. out they are hard to understand as they don't speak very good English, they spend about 15 min. tell me we have a leak and I have to buy freon as the company only pays $10.00. (In California the cost is now $80.00 a lb.) They have never fixed the leak and it seems to work for 1-2 year and then I have the same issue and I have to call.
Last year I called on a Friday as my AC was freezing up and they could not get out to look at it till Tues. Where I live it gets over 100 so I cancelled the call and somebody else came out by the next morning and fixed it and never mentioned that I have a rusted out heat pump. Now it's that time again, I called them and again their rep. spent 15 min. said we were leaking freon and the system needs replaced. He will turn it in and they should cover it, but never mentioned water damage. I got a call from AHS a couple hours later stating they were denying the claim due to contractor said heat pump rusted out due to water damage from sprinkler. I told the company that I do not have a sprinkler in that area and why would he say that as he didn't even take the hood off the system to look at it and anyway the system is outside in the weather and you don't think rain gets in there. She said rain is not covered.
I got a second opinion and they came, said, "No replacement needed. It's just the tank which is leaking and it looks like it's wear and tear due to the weather elements and again AHS should take care of this." They denied the first claim as the other contractor just wanted to replace it. 2 days later I just got a call that they are denying due to water damage. I have been paying for 10 years so that if my air ever went out I would have coverage. What a waste of money. I will be contacting all my referrals to let them know how this company works. I also had to pay $100.00 per contractor and still nothing was done.

I reported that I was having issues with my AC unit back in April 2017. They sent Meyers Heating and Air out 3 times and they misdiagnosed the issue but still required me to pay $75.00 but never fixed the issue. I continued to call in over and over again and got the run around. They finally sent out someone from Air repair and they never called the service request in to American Home Shield so they reassigned the request to Affordable Heating and Air who said that it was a neglect issue on our part and lied like we didn't even have a filter in the system.
After multiple phone calls of being on hold, they finally told us that it is not covered because it is our fault that the system is broken. My family and I have been so hot for the last few months only to be told that we would have to pay for it ourselves due to neglect. We are being retaliated against because we continued to call in. I have been with this company for over 10 years and this is really sad that this is what we are having to deal with.

After waiting 4 days, a work order was finally released for the company of our choosing. The company came out and decided that we needed a whole new ac system. To my surprise, American Home Shield covered it! The freon and modifications needed were not covered, but we ended up paying far, far less than what we would have had we had to pay out of pocket. The air conditioner was installed today, a day ahead of schedule. I'm updating my rating of American Home Shield from a 1 to a 4. This whole ordeal started out as a nightmare but it ended as I hoped. Also, American Home Shield did reach out to me after my initial review.

I'm very disappointed with American Home Shield. Our air conditioner went out. We called AHS and they told us the name of the company they would send. After looking up the company and seeing that they only have 4 reviews online and 3 of them are absolutely horrible, I decided to not use them. I called AHS back and canceled the work order. My husband called back to request a different company. The rude lady he spoke with doesn't seem to care about our situation. She said that company was the only one they used. He asked to speak with a manager. He gets ahold of a so-called manager and she says there are two other companies they could use. Both have great ratings so we picked one. The manager said she would personally send us an email with an update on the work order.
Next day, we called the chosen company and they haven't received the work order. We also never got an email. So my husband has called twice since then. It's been a couple of days now. No one has returned his call. What a joke! I'd like to make a prediction. What will happen next is that someone will finally come out to fix or replace our AC unit but it somehow won't be covered thanks to loopholes, special wording or lies.

They have issued a full refund for the freon, so I do appreciate them correcting the mistake. It cost me 3 days living without A/C, four hours on the phone with their terrible customer service reps, two phone calls to media outlets, a video of the a/c tech releasing freon into the air, and a complaint to consumer affairs. I will give an extra star for the assistance in getting my money back, but purely based on the way the customer service reps treated me I will never recommend this company.

6 months after moving into our home, our AC went out. The tech from the local company that our compressor needed to be replaced, and would be completely covered under our warranty. Two days passed with no response from either company so we called to ask what was going on. They told us that we would need to agree to pay $700 for freon or they would not pay for any portion of the repair. I called two more companies to inquire about the price of freon and they said we were being severely overcharged.
American Home Shield refused to use any other company for the repair and refused to issue a check. They said if we do not pay they will not cover any portion of the repair. We have been living in a house that is between 90-100 degrees inside for 3 days since the claim was filed. We have now had to purchase two AC units because my wife has asthma, and are still being told to pay $700 for the repair. Isn't the purpose of a warranty to avoid paying for unexpected repairs?
Hi Matt. The freon cost can definitely be extreme on occasion which could cause quite a bit of frustration. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to resolve your issue.

I am highly disappointed in the service received from AHS. I have had AHS for over 3 years and AHS seems to not know the skill set of the techs they are sending out. AHS also doesn't communicate well with the techs and vice versa. Customer service (by phone) is hit or miss when it comes to talking to someone capable. My current issue involves my refrigerator. Over the last year they have sent 6 appliance companies to fix/repair the refrigerator. The first (Appliance Medic) came out and said, "Yep, the compressor is bad" and followed up with,"but I don't do compressors." I paid 100 dollars for the Service Fee. The second (Appliance Doctor) came out said,"Yep it's the compressor" and took a week and half to get fixed. I paid 100 Service Fee. The refrigerator failed again. Yep you guessed it... the compressor.
The third (Jay's Appliance), the fourth (The Fridge Guy), the fifth (A&E Services) guy came out with a range of replacement parts from refrigerate boosts to replacement of small parts. Then, where I am now, the sixth (Suffolk Appliance and Parts) comes out and says there is a leak in the compressor and his solution is to fill it with more refrigerant. So, paid service fees for the first 4 visits and made an agreement with AHS that I would pay for the service fees after the refrigerator was fixed. The fifth visit I did not pay the fee because I felt the Thermostat replacement (took 4 days) would not be the end to this. And I was right. It isn't working.
I called up AHS tonight and was on hold for 25 min. The representative (Kieshania EMPL#**) said she could not send a technician out until I pay for the fifth service fee and the sixth service fee. The representative refused to forward the call to a supervisor. I was in disbelief that there wasn't anyone else I could talk to. She did offer to take my number a have the supervisor call me back. That was disturbing to hear because I did that on a previous service where it took 2 weeks for the supervisor to get back with me. Like I said, it's more miss than hit when dealing with AHS. Oh, they also don't keep accurate records online. It only shows 2 tech visits for the refrigerator. I was on the phone with the representative this evening and confirmed the other 4 tech visits.
Wow Mr. Davis. I can certainly understand how the situation with your refrigerator can be frustrating. In an effort to resolve your issue, I will have a social media specialist follow up with you as soon as possible.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for nine years. The representatives are nice. They were fine except most of the time since they work for Home Shield their best interest is with their company and that’s understandable. So they will try to find whatever they can, loopholes to not cover something. The contractors are not bad too.

My air conditioner was heating the house instead of cooling it so there was a leak somewhere. It was freezing up causing water to drain inside. American Home Shield was always on point with what they got and they always have guys that know what they're doing. All my claims I’ve had alway have been pretty good, easy and always reliable. The technicians that come out always explained to me what they're doing and usually they didn't mind that I could see what they're doing to make sure there was no craziness going on. Also, the technicians have always done right the first time. With my air conditioner, the guy said he was gonna come back out later this week to finish. There's also a 60-day warranty for the repairs, it's 30 days for people usually. That’s long enough for it to break again if there’s a problem.
I always enjoy talking to the technicians too but last time I got a little frustrated because it was hot and humid. But the guy was very understanding because he knows what the humidity and temperature here in South Texas is since he is from Bomont which is an hour and a half away. He rushed in and made sure everything got taken care of as it should have and it worked out well. I've been with AHS for about two years now and I've used them six times. I'm always telling somebody that I have AHS and if they just bought a house and they're worried, it's something they should look into especially the older houses because AHS covers almost anything and it gives peace of mind too.
It is always a pleasure to hear that American Home Shield gives our customers a "peace of mind," especially repeat customers. We look forward to serving you for many years to come!

In my most recent claim for repair to the downstairs shower, I called American Home Shield. Usually, they get a contractor to call me back within 24 hours but I heard back from this guy in five minutes. It was late in the day so he came out the next day and had to leave for a part, came back, fixed it, and done. He was friendly and professional. No complaints about his ways or behavior. My mother lives in our lower level and she uses that shower and she was having problems turning the water off and on. And now it's good as new. It’s perfect and everything was great. I've used AHS half a dozen times since we bought our house in 2011 and it's always been a pleasant experience. They have a quick turnaround with very professional contractors. That's why I continue to keep renewing it. I recommend AHS all the time.
Thanks for being a loyal customer for 6+ years & for recommending American Home Shield to family and friends. We are happy to hear that your mother can now operate the shower easily!

I had a problem with a ceiling fan and a technician came out and determined that the ceiling fan motor was gone. He told me I needed to have it replaced then he ordered the fan, came back and installed it. Then, he determined that one of the bulbs was also broken. So he ordered a bulb, came back out and installed it. He came at the scheduled time then he told me about how long he would take and he kept it to that time frame. He was not intrusive and he did what he needed to do. He was also neat and when he left, he didn't leave the house torn up. I was very pleased with American Home Shield because I had another home warranty and the experiences that I had with them were really bad. AHS is pretty good and I would recommend them.
I would like to thank you for the positive feedback on your experience with American Hoem Shield.

We noticed in the beginning of April that our ice maker was not working. I submitted a claim online to American Home Shield and it worked well. Eventually, two different servicemen came. One came to diagnose the problem and order the parts. Then, a different person came back to do the repair. Both of them were very professional. Since the repair, the ice maker has been working well and I don't have to make ice manually. I'm very pleased with my experience with American Home Shield. Their service did what they claimed and there were no glitches.

The oven inside my stove wasn't working and the contractor that American Home Shield sent to fix it was perfect and very knowledgeable. He came out and fortunately, he was able to fix it. However, I tried to pay him $100 that day and he said he didn't have a bill for us. I wasn't able to pay it and I still had a voided check which I wrote to give to him next time. He was supposed to come back because he had to order parts. Then two weeks later, AHS sent me an email to say I was delinquent on that $100. That was foul to even receive an email like that. I even sat on hold for customer service for 30 minutes to an hour. Plus, AHS is very hesitant in paying for the repairs. Eight months ago, I had a claim for a pool pump that they didn't pay for. The company they sent out was less than spectacular too. But overall AHS is adequate for what I pay for.

I had a heat pump blow out in the middle of winter, it took American Home Shield two days to get a technician to come out and check out the system and another week to finally get someone to replace it. Once that contractor saw that the unit needed to be replaced I was told I would have to pay for "Modifications" which would cost me $2,000. Some of the modifications included a plastic pad that the heat pump sat on, which was not replaced but they used the exact same one that was already there.
My argument with them was this was an installation not a modification since the heating system was already in place and I was not changing the heating system, but to no avail. Then when the unit was installed (I had a Trane) I ended up getting a brand called "Payne" which they said was a knockoff of Carrier. My analogy to them was I paid for a Cadillac but I got a Chevy. They buy the cheapest quality they can. They then indicated that I could take the cash instead which was a paltry $800, when the price for a 3 ton heat pump is over $2,000, plus then I would have to pay for the installation.
Anyway, I had to have them do the work and use their heat pump since it was the middle of winter and I was without heat for over a week already at this point. Fast forward 5 months later, it's in the 90's and the A/C does not work! American Home Shield wants to charge me again for the service call and if the unit has to be replaced I'm on the hook for another $2,000 for the "modifications" to install the exact same unit that only lasted 5 months to begin with. There are many other home warranty companies out there, this may be the biggest but it certainly is not the best. I just went with Choice Home Warranty, they give you a discount if you switch and their service calls are cheaper. I don't know how Choice Home Warranty is but I know they can't be worse than American Home Shield.

American Home Shield's business model is built on a scam. They take advantage of first time homeowners who do not know the ins and outs of their scheme. When signing up for a home warranty on my new home purchase, I selected the plan to cover all systems. However, the contract AHS has developed relinquishes them of almost all responsibility for any fix of high value.
Need a new water heater? Plan to pay hundreds more to get the water heater to "code". Hot water inflow stops due to sediment build up related to new hot water heater provided through AHS plumber? Plan to pay $2000 because plumbing restrictions are not covered. They will only fix the valve which is a $20 purchase at Home Depot.
Coverage - 1 Star: Their very carefully worded contract is used to deceive its customers. They have very blanket basic overages, and even more broad exclusions which allows them to claim they are not liable. Thus, when I reach out to have something fixed on which I expect would be covered, I end up having to eat the cost. When reading through the contract at a deeper level, you come to realize that they have reimbursement limits which are way less than a typical service would cost. Essentially, their service does not provide me the financial security that should come with a home warranty.
Customer Service - 1 Star: Hold times are 30 minutes to an hour. Their staff is not knowledgeable. All the questions you answer when first calling in are then asked again by customer service. They say they are working on an issue, but they only become proactive once you follow up multiple times. I waited 30 minutes one time just to talk to a supervisor only to get her voicemail (still waiting for that callback). I also called on a Thursday to determine status of no hot water that technicians reviewed on Tuesday. They said they are still reviewing diagnosis. Called back again on Monday, and after a few hours on the phone was finally told that they need to talk with the plumber because they have not talked to him since the previous Monday. Value: Zero.

Bad service, very dishonest company. Had my AC go out in Texas couple weeks ago. Called them and they sent out very unprofessional AC company with bad reviews. AC company said it was my coil and that it would be covered by my warranty, however needed to bring everything else up to code. House is only 10 years old, pretty sure it has not changed that much. Anyway they wanted to charge me over $1500 to do the extra repairs then fix my coil. Had different company do way better work, then called AHS to get check and was told that all they would pay is $370, $250 for AC coil and labor and $120 freon. Not sure of cost, but very seriously doubt an AC coil plus labor does not cost only $250. They will weasel their way of paying for anything. They used to be a very reputable company, but now it's all about how much you can scam from the consumer.

Last summer I experience trouble with my AC unit. AHS sent someone to fix problem. The fix was only a band-aid solution and this summer we are experiencing similar/worse trouble. AHS sent another rep from another company who advised that we need significant work. AHS waited two weeks to respond and then deny the claim all the while, we had no working AC with temps in the 90s. We were told that in the fine print we were not covered because the unit required replacement but AHS will not replace. They only band-aid your problems. When I called to cancel they said that there is a cancellation fee of $15. I am completely disgusted with the lack of coverage and customer service despite paying high monthly fees to be covered. So, I am in the same situation with this as if I did not have a warranty.

I’d rather speak to somebody, so I went through the submitting process via phone. After I told them the issues I was having, they searched for a company closest to me and see if a person’s available. They were able to call me within one to two weeks, but a few part has had to be ordered so it took another two to three weeks. Overall, the fixing process took about a month, and American Home Shield kept in contact with me the whole time. The technicians they have sent were great, as well as their customer service. When they couldn’t fix an item, they replaced it. I had no problem and appreciated American Home Shield’s promptness in getting the things done as quickly as they can, as I have tenants.

I had a plumbing issue on my property a month after I purchased it. The policy that I was provided stated that plumbing was covered - well of course I call in and they tell me it's not covered. I ask for a copy of the complete policy where I can read this for myself, and the CSR gives me major attitude. Completely unhelpful and rude. Had to repeat my address several times because she couldn't take it down correctly (out of spite maybe, I don't know). American Home Shield is a scam and will do whatever possible to duck out of covering for anything, won't provide clear policy documents, and treat their insureds like dirt. Skip it and just have the buyer pay you for money instead for any incidentals, at least you'll have $400 in your pocket instead of $0 when something goes wrong with an AHS policy.

Once the technician came out he said he would turn in the paperwork right away so he could get it installed same day.
Well at 8:00 pm I got an email that stated my portion of the payment was $1,060 for a 40-gallon water tank. I called HomeAdvisor and they sent 3 contractors and all of them were cheaper than that price without AHS. So I called AHS and explained the problem and the representative informed me that certain parts of the water heater are covered but not the actual water heater... WHAT? I am livid and beyond upset. I've been a American Home Shield customer for 7 continuous years. I rarely called them for services since we've taken a good care of our home. This summer, our air conditioning unit broke down. We called AHS and a contractor, named CMR Heating and Air Conditioning, was assigned to do the service. The repair man came on May 30 and failed to diagnose the leaking because his tool didn't work! We paid 75.00 and waited for a follow-up service. Several days passed by and no phone calls and we had to call them to ask for a follow-up service.
On June 5, the repair man came back and he was able to detect one leak at the indoor evaporation coil and another leak at outdoor line valve (that was all he wrote down on the invoice). He took the pictures and then wrote down the units' numbers and said they would order the coil and the valve and they would called us to set up an appointment for him to come back to replace them. It would take him a couple of hours to fix it.
The contractor hadn't called us since June 5 and on June 12, I called the contractor (around 8:20 AM) and they said they still waited for a paperwork and would call us back. Around 5:30 PM that day, AHS called us. I was at work at that time and had to call them back. They said they denied the service because the contractor submitted that the coil leak was caused by being hit by an object which rendered the AC was not properly maintained.
I didn't have enough time to argue at that time and when I got home I called AHS again around 7:00 PM. This time we talked to an representative name Melissa (from Georgia center), we tried to argue that we did not do anything to the evaporation coil and the repair man did not mentioned about something hitting the coil at all. He also did not write down anything about the coil being hit. The representative insisted that nothing she could do and suggested us to set up an appointment for a second opinion.
Being a loyal customer for 7 years without missing a fee, we are really disappointed with AHS service. It has been 2 weeks since the 1st service and nothing has been done for our broken AC. Even worse, AHS denied to service our AC based something that was not true to our opinion. Being a loyal customer to AHS and seeing our kids suffered the hot summer with a broken AC really angers us. We feel like we were tricked into buying the home warranty and feel like we wasted all our trusts and investments to AHS.
I certainly hate to hear that you have received less than satisfactory service from AHS. We value you as a long time customer and would like the opportunity to turn this issue around for you. A social media specialist will be following up with you as soon as possible. Thanks.

I've been a customer of American Home Shield for many years. Recently I filed a claim to AHS for one of my customers because a water well went bad. The contractors were overall good. Increasingly though it seems like less and less is being covered which is getting irritating. The deductible is getting higher too. Also, sometimes you have no control over who they dispatch. There will be that one guy that’ll stand out and another who is not so good. It really depends on who comes out.
Steven Vandervort is one of their appliance people and he is far better than when they dispatch somebody else. It's the same for D&T Heating and Cooling. It's very good. A guy comes and it’s professional. This year, I didn't get an increase from AHS but a feature was dropped. We've been paying for the water softener for the last 10 years and all of a sudden it was dropped. Also, some of the paperwork of AHS are a little hard to use. Nevertheless, I'm happy and I'll continue to stay with AHS.
Mr. Rousari, thanks for providing in-depth details about your warranty experiences. We are delighted that you have had great service from Steven Vandervort and D&T Cooling. That means they are treating our customers right!
You are correct, the option to cover water softeners is no longer available. We regret that is a service that you will miss!

I had a recent claim with American Home Shield for my exhaust fan. I filed the claim online and the service guy who showed up was very professional. He was knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. Also, he was very efficient and cleaned up after himself. Since the repair, my exhaust fan has been working great. It was a good experience.
Sounds like you had a seamless experience. This is great. We love to hear about these instances at American Home Shield!

We have used American Home Shield on one occurrence and everything went very good as planned. They were courteous and showed up on time. I was very satisfied with the service that I received from them. The technicians were very helpful fixing things and the entire process went well. Since the repair, things have performed normally. On the other hand, the trade cost should go lower than what they’re charging rather than $75 trade charges. When they show up to repair, they charge $75 every call on top of my monthly fee. If they would reduce it down to $50 per trade call, where a lot of these repairs could be well-covered, then that would be fair. But so far, everyone did pretty well.
Ajay, thanks for taking time out of your day to give accolades to the American Home Shield staff and contractors.

I’ve had so many bad experiences with American Home Shield. They’re very unorganized, they don’t show up when they say they will and the wait’s forever when I try to get a hold of somebody on the phone or online. When we first got the house, the only reason we kept American Home Shield is because we had them with the house when we bought it. This has been going on for years. If I took the 13 years that I’ve lived in this house, we’ve had them out here between three and four times a year on different little items. Between air conditioners and plumbing mostly. But there have always been delays and issues. I don’t think we even renewed this year. That’s how bad that was.
There was a time when the whole house was plugged up. We called in and took about 30 minutes to actually talk to somebody. They told me they could only get somebody out here after 6 hours. But the person they gave me wasn’t the correct contractor. I called back three or four times, then they gave me the other contractor. But when I tried to call the company there was an issue -- ‘cause it was on a Saturday. The whole office shut down. Didn’t tell me they were coming for sure or not. So, I called back and complained and said, “Hey, where’s my person?” So, the person put on another work order to send another person out. He had the pipes flowing 30 minutes. It was out by the street, where the plug was, and problem was solved.
Last year, we had a leaky faucet in the bathtub. They changed out the faucet and what we found out was a chunk of tape stuck in the balancing valve which was two inches over from the main valve. It ended up costing me $600 for another plumber to come in and fix all this. So, they changed it all out and I paid all this money and guess what? It doesn’t flow any different than it did before. The water comes out and if somebody flushes the toilet, you still get hot water or cold water. It didn’t balance out the system or fixed anything they said was going to fix. Maybe it’s not totally the tech’s fault. It’s an old house. I don’t know how it’s built or why it’s built like it is, but the tech’s don’t understand the way the plumbing’s working in this house.
With my washing machine, I had to put a backflow preventer on it so the water didn’t come up out of the pipe and below out in the floor. The last guy that came in here and he said, “Yeah, you definitely got some problems with the plumbing and this is what needs to be updated on the plumbing.” He said, “You’re gonna have to keep the backflow preventer in, but it vent in the house.” He goes, “You need to run this pipe all the way out the roof.” He said, “That’s just the new washing machines are.” And, yes, I’ve had water on the floor before because of the washing machine.
Four and a half years ago, when they changed out the air handler, they left a great big chunk of insulation in the flue where it goes to all the different rooms. So, it cut off the air of half of my house. I called to have your guys come out and fix it. They come out there, “Oh, there’s nothing we can do.” A year later, ‘cause the air conditioner compressor blew up, finally, they changed that out and the guy who changed that out he goes, “There’s something really wrong ‘cause these things are supposed to be flowing free.” We cut open the air box and found that a four by three foot sheet of insulation, at three quarter inch thick, laying there covering up all these ducts. So, which tech do you want to blame on this? Because it came out of the original air handler that they took out.
Here’s another thing that ticks me off. Ever since they put that air handler in, every year I’ve had to put in freon in this thing. I have to put between one and three pounds in it. Last year, I had them come out and put some special sealer in the air conditioning unit to seal up the units so, if it did start leaking it would plug it. Finally, it worked. It cost me $280 to get that stuff put in. American Home Shield wouldn’t pay for it. I’d had another contractor come in to fix it, which their contractors didn’t do when installing in the first place.
Also, last year when my father-in-law’s air conditioner was getting bad (it’s been in there since 1979), I had a guy look at it and they say the home warranty’s gonna fix it. It’s rusting out and it just needs to be replaced ‘cause it’s old, still barely working and they said, “We’ll just fix it.” It’s a SEER 8. Now, it’s at what, SEER 23? We’re talking about how inefficient that is. But American Shield will fix. They will not replace.
Then there’s my garbage disposal. The thing started leaking down the side of it. The guy comes out here. He goes, “I can’t touch it.” He goes, “That old unit is corroded. I can’t change it ‘cause the warranty won’t pay for it.” It’s leaking in my cabinet. So, I had to go out there and buy a new one and fix it myself. If I can go in there and I can fix this stuff myself faster and do it right, there’s a problem there. Just like changing my water heater. They come out there and they say, ”Oh, this isn’t to code.” So, it’s gonna cost me as much for the water heater to add a disconnect. I could go buy the thing usable, disconnect for $39 at Home Depot and they want $508 to install one?
And there isn’t enough repairs in my house that’s like to have that sewer line done. The guy who actually did it said they charged American Home Shield $350. But they said that really, the actual cost to do it is, if you pay for it cash, it’s only $225. Figure that one out. Who’s the one getting the run around on this one? And then they say they’re gonna charge $350 when they really actually get $350. I don’t have that answer, really.
I’m not gonna blame American Home Shield because they buy services from contractors. The contractors they use should be posted online. When I see these other guys come out there and do it, they’re just looking to get the damn thing done and it’s just crazy. If they’re trying to fix their system, they better get some honest techs and repair people that know what the heck’s going on and how to fix things. And some of the stuff is American Home Shield’s problem like getting things scheduled and things in and out the door. But it’s more than just one thing. It’s both. I mean, it’s the coordination between the contractors and American Home Shield. Actually, the quality of what’s being done. When you get a contractor come into your house and you don’t know Spanish and all they know is Spanish. You got a problem when they got their 14 year-old kid interpreting plumbing.
Don’t use AHS. Go find somebody else because they’re not affordable. They’re not even practical anymore.

I am a very kind, older disabled former elementary school teacher who will never do business with American Home Shield again. My water heater repair service fee was supposed to be $80.00 but the contractor that American Home Shield sent charged me $999.00 (for a new but objectionably old style water heater). Although I had been told there would be an extra charge because of the upper level location of my water heater but I requested the newer version that would have been lighter weight, and I had no idea the contractor who showed up to do the urgent repair would charge so much.
I was astonished when I saw the bill and objected but paid the subcontractor (who by the way in the process of the repair caused major flooding damage to the carpeted half of my garage and just left a fan which didn't dry fast enough to prevent the molding etc), and I called American Home Shield to protest and seek amends, but was callously told that once they contract the job out, they are not responsible for any additional charges applied or damages caused by the plumbing company. Apparently it's somewhere in the fine print or between the lines. I am fearful of retaliation and can't afford a lawyer, so I don't want to appeal. I'm just sharing my experience to be helpful to other consumers. Thank you.

AHS is a scam. They direct their contractors to specify issues that they call out as not covered, even when the issues are relatively routine repairs. In my example, the Tub Faucet/Water Diverter broke... It just got old. AHS sent a contractor out who said there were "pieces missing" which is completely ridiculous as it is one piece. AHS denied the claim, and the contractor wanted $725 for the repair. I then called a reputable plumber who charged me half of what the contractor wanted. STAY AWAY!

American Home Shield replaced our broken KitchenAid Microwave with a GE unit. It was supposed to be delivered and installed the same day. It was delivered, but I was told that they had no orders to install it. The microwave is sitting in my small kitchen floor and has still not been installed. It has been a couple of weeks. To be fair to AHS, I will say that we have been in Cancun for a week and could not communicate with them, but they knew it needed to be installed when we left for Cancun. The microwave was delivered on May 30. We called to see what was going on on May 31. We were told they would take care of it. Today is June 12 and I called to see what the status was on getting it installed. They have been unable to find an installer and have offered us $125 to get our own installer.
I called the KitchenAid people we normally deal with and they do not carry GE and will not install because of warranty issues. I have no idea what we are to do! I am at my wit's end. Our current microwave is leaking radiation and we cannot use it. The other one can't be installed! Is there not anyone at AHS who can find a solution for us? I am a realtor and have purchased these policies over the years for my clients. We have had our own just a couple of years and this is the first time trying to use it. We are also waiting for a dryer and dishwasher to be repaired since April 21. AHS is sending out another repair person on June 12th to look at it, so we are starting over with that! It appears to me that the issue is with the contractors in the AHS network. This is just unacceptable!
Wow Aura, I can certainly understand your frustration. It seems that installing a microwave would be an easy fix. I will have a social media specialist research your account and follow up with you shortly in an effort to resolve this issue.

We have been loyal customers for many years and usually have had nothing but positive experiences. But a recent problem with our air conditioner has made me want to share our story. We had recent service done to our air conditioner (which took 3 visits to finally get fixed) and were stuck with a bill for almost $800 to cover the cost of adding refrigerant two times to our unit. When I spoke to the AHS representative I was told that our contract only covers an allowance of $10 per pound of refrigerant and we were responsible for the other $90 per pound. But the issue is that the problem that caused the unit to lose refrigerant in the first place was covered under the contract. So if the problem is covered, why isn't the entire cost of the repair covered? I tried to escalate this to a supervisor but never received a callback. If a repair is covered, the cost of restoring the item to full working condition should be covered. Very disappointing.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day to advise us of your experience. A Social Media Specialist will be in contact with you to assist in resolution.

I submitted the claims over the phone and the claims representative was great. The contractors came out the next day and a lot sooner than the time frame that they told me they’re going to come. Since the repair, everything is working perfectly now. Before, I was having a low water pressure and didn't know where to plumb it. We moved into our house now almost four years ago. We have very old appliances so I asked the previous owners to get us a home warranty. In the four years that we've been here, AHS did the washer, the dryer, the pipes, and the oven. They’ve all been quick and painless and all of the contractors were wonderful. I did an online claim AHS recently for my dishwasher that wasn't washing dishes. It had been decreasingly working for quite some time but I just didn’t realize it. I used to always call when I did my claims but with the last three claims, I did them online and it was easy.
We had AHS at our old home for nine years too but they cancelled us. We have had quite a lot of claims and it was right when AHS had been sued and had to make a settlement for all of the first year claims that they had denied. They had their auditors go through and look for people who would have a lot of claims. I’ve had a couple of claims that were very expensive, like replacing a whole system. AHS said we always had the option of cancelling, though. When I went online to look for another warranty, AHS had cancelled lots of people because they had to pay out millions in penalties in claims.
There was a problem at our old house that AHS had fixed a couple of times, though. It was a timer valve thing on our old hot water heating system. But when the new company came in, they said that they didn't do anything that had rust. I had to fight with them over this $400-claim to say, “Look, it’s rusted because the valve opened and it was dripping inside." Whereas with American Home Shield, I did not have that issue on the previous two claims. AHS is number one in the industry for a reason.
AHS put us back with our home now 'cause it's a different home. They did the air conditioning system in this house, which was a minor issue and I had asked the people to purchase one for us as part of the settlement. But they also have the policy that they will only replace like with like. Our air condition compressor was 13 years old and they still had ones with the old Freon in them and that was all AHS was going to give us. The Freon is up to $80 a pound and is only going to get more expensive because it is not being produced anymore because of the environmental factors. So they were going to screw us on that one. If the new one lasted 15 years, it was not going to be cost-effective. But then they gave us $1,200 towards the new system that we chose to purchase. So they still settle claims well.
Thanks for such a detailed and honest review. We acknowledge as you have, that the environmental factors surrounding Freon can sometimes be costly for our customers. We applaud you for making the smart choice by utilizing our cash out option to upgrade your system; this will save you money later. We are grateful that you continue to trust us into your homes and that you acknowledge that "American Home Shield is number one in the industry for a reason."

He just said, “Well, I can only fix it if it stops working.” I called back because it was doing the same thing and talked to another Home Shield person. She sent the guy back out here. We told him what it was doing again and he opened up the machine, he looked at it and he said it was a part that needed to be replaced and he did that. I didn’t have a problem since.
Also on a particular day the AC wasn’t working. The tech explained to me it was something inside and that he had to go inside the furnace downstairs, the main unit, to fix it. Horrible customer service! A few months ago I placed a service request for my garage. The vendor was supposed to contact me within 24hrs and never did. A week went by and I still didn't hear anything. I called AHS and they had a vendor come out a few days later. I was able to get my service request fulfilled within 10 days. Fast forward to now and surprise my garage needs to be serviced again. I made an appointment online on Tuesday night and got a call Wednesday evening. The vendor AHS contracted advised me they have no appointment such until Sunday afternoon between 12-4. I explained to the vendor that my garage is opened and will not come down. The release is not working and we are not able to pull it shut. I explained that this is a safety issue as this leaves the most vulnerable door to my house exposed. I tried to get an earlier appointment but that was a big no.
My husband called AHS Wednesday night and a rep explained to him that the vendor should come out within 48hrs. Well AHS stated they could contact another vendor but the clock will start all over again. I called the next morning and basically I was given the same response. A new vendor request would mean someone would not be out until the following Tuesday or Wednesday. AHS acts as if customer service and satisfaction is not a priority. I pay my monthly fee for services that I can get at their convenience. They do not try to resolve issues and there is no sense of urgency with them. Here I am on my weekend off from work waiting on the repairman. He probably will not show until later after the time frame quoted, as this has been my experience in the past. I plan on switching to another company that will appreciate my hard earned money and act like I am a priority instead of an inconvenience.

The pool pump was shut down because it was old. I contacted American Home Shield over the phone, but they couldn’t get anybody to do it, so I paid for it and sent it in to get reimbursed. I had one problem since I’ve been with American Home Shield. I had an air conditioner problem last year. And AC Harris is the company that does our air conditioner down here. For weeks, they told me they were coming every day, and never came, never even called. I spent four months without an air conditioner. AC Harris said it was AHS. But AHS said it was them. It was back and forth. I had no air conditioner all summer and it was horrible.
Then my boiler went out, the same company does the boiler as does the air conditioning. I couldn’t have it done by them so I paid $5,500 out of my pocket to have the boiler fixed. I would like people to know what’s going on over here with that air conditioning company. I’m not the first one to complain about them. Also, the guy from AC Harris would come and say that people want to kill him because he had another job. I called AHS to let them know about this. I was on the phone constantly but nobody seemed to care. I was a firm believer of American Home Shield until this happened. But I’m still staying with AHS. Everybody else have been good. I needed a plumber so AHS sent one. The plumber came to my place but he wasn't sure what the problem was so, I didn't feel comfortable with him. AHS sent a second one who's a master plumber and did an excellent job. He knew exactly what to do and he fixed the problem. On the other hand, the lady that I talked to at AHS said I couldn't request for a certain plumber. They have to pick the plumber that they want but I didn’t want to pick that one who wasn’t sure what the problem was. When I called the second time, the girl said I can pick the person that I want if I had a good experience. But it ended up being a good visit because a great guy came out the second time.
In addition, AHS' price goes up every year. It would be nice if they gave a discount when you've been with them for a period of time, like what insurance companies do. I've been with AHS for almost five years. It makes me want to see if somebody else got a better price. Other than that, I've had a great experience with AHS.

I've been with American Home Shield for over 30 years - 29 years on the other house and 10 years on this house. I've been with them when one would only pay $20 for a service call, and I never had a problem. I recently filed the claim for my air-conditioner over the phone and the claims rep was fine. However, I'm totally dissatisfied with who American Home Shield picked to come in and fix my air-conditioning. The guy came to the house and said he had to fix some wires on the compressor. He fixed them and he left, but the air-conditioner still wasn't working. I called back and the guy came by the house. He said it may be due to some water in the line. He did his thing for about seven minutes and said it'll be fine, and left. But nothing's changed. The air-conditioner is still not working and it's as hot as hell in here. He was very pleasant but he didn't do anything.
I called another company and asked them what should be done. I got a list of all the things that weren't done that should have been done when the first guy came. I'm waiting for him to come tomorrow and we'll be going over the list. He didn't check the freon level, didn't check to find out if there was in fact communication between the thermostat and the compressor, and didn't blow out the condensation line. He said he fixed the wires but I don't know if he fixed them or not. I never saw him fix anything. This is crazy. This guy has got to be the dumbest guy in the company or he just didn't feel like doing what needed to be done as what I was told by the technician who I talked to. Contractors just come and tell the homeowner anything and leave. That may be the case here, but I will find out tomorrow. And if it doesn't work out, I'll be calling American Home Shield and will be telling them my experience with this guy coming for the third time.
Thanks for being a valued American Home Sheild customer for 30+ years. It sounds like you've had a less than pleasant experience recently that needs to be addressed. If that is the case, please send us a private response on this platform. We are eager to make it right!

The problem with our pool heater started when we first moved into the house in January. We called American Home Shield and the representative explained how the process works. It was new to my wife and I. This is my first time having a house with a swimming pool so I didn't know all of the things that could go wrong. The guys that went said that the pool heater isn't covered anymore so we need to do this and that. They came out six or seven times and then they had to get another company to come out. AHS considered each piece of equipment separate and we ended spending $1,200 which was a lot of money. From my perspective, they were responsive. The contractors that they sent were professional and they got things resolved relatively quickly. From American Home Shield's perspective, they did what they were supposed to do other than they could have had a more thorough investigation of the entire system.
There were multiple things that went on and it wasn't just the pool heater. The hot water heater also went out. We happen to have multiple hot water heaters and we were able to take a bath in another room. We ended up getting a brand new hot water heater, and we paid $500 for that. Then our oven went out as well. We happen to have another kitchen so it was okay. But the oven would start beeping crazy sporadically throughout the night and it was really annoying to the household. And because that was in the home, we had to be there constantly. They came out about five or six times as well for the oven before they finally gave up. We got a brand new oven, which we only paid the service call for $75 instead of $1,500.
At first, American Home Shield wanted to only give us credit towards the oven. And because it was with the house and it's 14 years old, they couldn't find exactly the one that we had. Ours was stainless steel and they had one that was only one part on it was white. We asked them why they would put a white piece on a stainless steel oven and so we ended up back and forth on that. Ultimately, my wife convinced them and they gave us the oven for no charge because they couldn't replace it. But it took multiple calls for that.
At the moment, all the equipment seem to be doing fine. And if I take a holistic look at it, it ended up being a benefit because it saved me several thousand dollars in my pocket. But it's kinda frustrating in one respect because of the way that it took so long for some of the contractors, especially with the oven and the pool. It was a tough learning experience but overall it was good.
Hi, Bernard. I completely understand about the time frame being an issue. We are doing what we can to work with our contractors to ensure a quicker response and completion time frame. Thank you for your patronage and we hope that you will continue to be a member of the AHS family.

I recently had a claim with American Home Shield for duct insulation in my air-conditioner. You could either call them or submit a request for service online with the account that you have set up with them. It’s very easy to do it online and it's seamless. You don’t have to wait on hold until the next operator gets to you. And then the company who is going to do the work would contact you usually within 24 hours. They send Sears and multiple companies and everyone who has come out has always been great. They ask me what the problem is, look at what I’ve written up, inspect it and they always put little hoodie covers over their shoes coming in, so they’re respectful of your property, and whatever contract you have set up with them and send them a check for services.
In my instance, I give them $75, they assess the situation and the parts needed then they order them. I had one incident where they had to fix my toilet and it took five times to get it right. The first two guys that they sent me came very late and it was out of the guidelines but the owner of that company rectified it. And outside of that, Sears and all the other companies have been very professional. For some people, it’s hard to only be available from Monday to Friday. A good majority of the people work, so you have to take a day off. But they have improved with the windows and since they’ve gone online, you can set your own appointments between 8:00 and 1:00, 12:00 and 2:00, 3:00 and 5:00, which is better for the consumer. American Home Shield doesn’t provide service on the weekends. But it would be nice for them to be available.
Thank you for the positive feedback on your experience with Sears.

I have a few complaints about American Home Shield (AHS). The first is they have no type of emergency quick response. It takes them 24 hrs to get a service request placed through whatever service company they select then it takes a few days for the service company to set up an appointment for to come out for the repairs.
During the hottest part of the July our AC broke down. I live in Virginia and it was unbearably hot and humid last year. It took a week before a someone came out to look at the AC unit and determined it had to be replaced. That took weeks for AHS to agree to the replacement of my AC then a couple more weeks to get the new AC and because I had a heat pump that had to be replaced too. I called and complain. They offered to pay me 60 to buy portable fans for to cool the house while they made their decision about replacing the unit. The AC finally got replaced and all repairs were completed after the heat had passed and the weather'd cooled. The AC unit that was put in is broken again. The unit was not installed correctly. Now 5 days into trying to get the unit repaired!!!
Then the plumbing was clogged up throughout the house in August 2016. I called AHS several times starting on a Thursday then Friday explaining to their employee the plumbing situation and how we couldn't use the bathroom or even shower, they politely apologize and told me because it was Friday I'd have to wait until Monday or Tuesday for someone to contact me. So the whole weekend we had to stay at lodging on base. I ended up calling a plumber. Getting it repaired myself. That should have been an emergency service call and they should've rushed it through the system in cases like the above-mentioned. When we tried to address these issues they fell on deaf ears.

There was a lack of flow of hot water in the shower, so we placed the call with American Home Shield. They quickly scheduled the service and the people who came and did the job were very nice and professional. Now, it works like it should and we have a good flow of hot water. I was very pleased with them and I have recommended them to a friend.
I appreciate your positive feedback and I am glad we were able to fix your hot water flow in the shower.

We took out this policy based on the fact that our house is now 10 years old and decided it would be a good idea to insure our appliances and AC unit. This company has turned out to be a HUGE scam!!! We have not had AC now for over 5 days and we live in Florida. The company denied our claimed based on the fact that the unit has rust and it was a pre-existing condition!!! Of course there will be some rust on a 10 year old unit outside in Florida. I told the lady when we signed up the age of the units and she said as long as they were operational it was fine. It has always worked fine until it stopped working two months into the contract. They are refusing to cover it even though it states in the contract they cover normal wear and tear. This is a horrible company!!! DO NOT USE THEM. Hopefully a class action lawsuit will be brought up against them. We will be canceling this contract ASAP.

I have been an American Home Shield customer for nearly 6 years, and my experience with them has varied radically over that time. I first became a customer in 2011, and about 6 months after that I had a major malfunction of my central air conditioning unit (in Texas) which required full replacement. This was my first time opening an AHS ticket, and I was thrilled to have it taken care of within a reasonable time frame.
Unfortunately, that was my last pain and hassle-free interaction with AHS. Since, I've had numerous small, covered repairs for which I opened AHS service tickets, and every single one of them required significant work and time investment on my part in order to get the work approved or the contractors to show up. Every time I have a contractor out to my house, we go through the exact same song and dance. They will come check it out, call AHS for approval, and then tell me AHS won't cover it. This will start a long, drawn-out back and forth between me and the AHS service representatives. Every single time I have a service request opened, the default response from AHS is "That's not covered".
The first person I talk to will tell me it's not covered, and then transfer me to someone else who will admit that it is. Or the service representative will claim to not be knowledgeable enough about my contract to make a decision and transfer me to a "contract representative" who will know more, and that person will approve the work. Or they will blame the contractor, saying that their report of the needed work/repairs is different from mine and they'll have to reach out to them in order to reconcile the difference, which will take days or weeks. This problem is particularly nasty if you need follow-up work done. If a technician created 4 holes in your wall looking for a leaking pipe, but only wrote 2 in his report to AHS (which you don't get to see, by the way - I've asked), then AHS will summarily deny your request for follow-up service until they contact the contractor at their own convenience to resolve the discrepancy.
I have had things that are blatantly covered in crystal clear black-and-white in my contract denied by AHS. They invent new reasons to deny my requests every time I call, none of which are EVER listed anywhere in my contract, let alone in the limitations and exclusions section. They won't cut the holes to access plumbing, citing the standard note in all their contracts:
"NOTE: Where covered repairs require access to plumbing, AHS will only provide access to plumbing through unobstructed walls, ceilings or floors, and will return access openings to a rough finish. If the plumbing is accessible only through a concrete floor, wall or ceiling, AHS will pay up to $500 per contract term for access to, repair to, or replacement of such plumbing, including returning access openings to a rough finish."
They will never define what an "unobstructed wall" is, which leaves them total carte blanche to deny any service request, which they've done to me on multiple occasions for regular old drywall. I've even been told they won't cover any repairs if they have to cut through wood. I've called back the next day and had the exact same work approved by someone else. Or they'll deny the work because the technician has to stand outside the back door on the patio to cut into that section of the wall instead of inside the door, citing some other non-existent clause about covering work on the exterior of homes. Or the first service representative will tell you something isn't covered by the core coverage plan, and not even bother reviewing any additional coverage plan items you may have paid for.
It's always something, it's always a new excuse why they won't cover it, and their excuses are NEVER delineated in my contract. Prior to filing any service request, I review my contract carefully to ensure the work in question is indeed covered in clear language by my service contract. Each and every time, the first service representative will tell me it isn't covered. Often, the second or third person will deny the request also. Eventually, I'll get to someone who will say, "Mr. **, I'm reviewing your contract and hose bibs/leaking shower heads/whatever are indeed covered. Let me inform our service representatives and transfer you back to them."
The entire system seems designed to make customers so frustrated with the process that they decide to withdraw their service requests. I have handled multiple repairs myself because I simply didn't want to spend an hour or two of my day on the phone with AHS customer service. Additionally, my wife and I have a very small suspicion of collusion between AHS and some of the contractors with whom we repeatedly get assigned. The technicians who come out are quick to say they know AHS won't cover it, but fast to take your $75 for driving out. I considered not including this in my review because it is totally anecdotal and perhaps unfair, but we have noticed this several times and, as frugal and cynical homeowners, the thought has crossed our mind. At the very least, it has affected our experience with AHS, though likely due to no fault of theirs. Nonetheless, I felt it relevant enough to include.
This has been my consistent experience with AHS over the last 2-3 years and over approximately 8-10 service requests. I'm not here talking about a single request where AHS gave me some pushback and I got upset about it and now I'm venting online. It's a predictable, recurring theme that plays out, without fail, every single time I submit a request for service.
Because of this downward trend of poor service and increasing hassle, I will not be renewing my contract when my term expires later this summer. I cannot recommend AHS to anyone at this time. I'm happy to answer any follow-up questions, provide my AHS agreement number/contract for review, or anything else that will support this review.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was with my faucet. When I tried to use the faucet for the first time, it worked well. I got the water I needed and was washing the driveway. When I try to turn it off, it didn't work. I couldn't turn it off. The water kept coming so it was flooding. I put a hose on it, turned off the hose and contained the water. That was when I filed the claim to get it fixed.
The first plumber that came asked me if I put the hose on it. He told me it's water damage because the hose was on it for the whole winter. I am not a plumber but that didn't make sense because it was on it for less than 24 hours. He said we can call him to fix it but that's not going to be covered. I disagreed and I said I wanted a second opinion. A second plumber came in a few days later and he told me that's not water damage. He said it was normal wear and tear because it was right there for years so he fixed it. I received an email from American Home Shield saying that for the second opinion, I have to pay for the visit as well. I called to find out why. Somebody told me that because the second plumber has not billed the claim yet, they still don't know what his final diagnosis is. They want me to disregard this email and to wait until they have all the paperwork and then they will get back to me.
I have been a customer of American Home Shield for almost 10 years now and this is the first time I have a problem with them. I'm not going to consider a one thing like that to say they are not good. I would still stay with them and keep going. So far, my experience with them has been good. For American Home Shield, there will not be any lasting problem that would make me change my mind and terminate my relationship with them.
I would like to thank you for being a customer of American Home Shield for over 10 years. We value your feedback about your experience with us so far.

The online claims process of American Home Shield was easy. Our first claim was for an air conditioner. However, the technician told me that he would be here between 8:00 and 10:00 but he wasn't. Neither did he tell me why he was so late. Nevertheless, American Home Shield was very good at keeping me updated as well as emailing, calling and checking.

My recent claim with American Home Shield was when my AC broke. The contractor came out and charged me $400 for the Freon and I ended up paying $500 out of pocket money to have it fixed. Then, about three weeks later, the problem happened again. This time when the contractor came, he said it’s not fixable anymore and he had to replace it. So, after me spending $500, the AC needed to be replaced. Then, I was told that he tried to change the condenser and most of it is not covered and I had about $2,000 out of pocket expense to do it. I was shocked because they charged me for every little thing that was possible.
Then a couple of days later, I got a call from AHS saying that my condenser is old and they cannot supply me the same kind of condenser. They need to change it to a newer system. And they also have to change the blower that I fixed so that it will be compatible with it. For that, I will have a $3,500 out of pocket expense, which was outrageous. I told them that all the charges were extreme because I asked around and the charges for the material are not much. It’s the work that they charge me a lot of money. It was $3,500 and for every adjustment like garbage collecting, it was $200. They charge me for everything.
In the end, we decided to get cash back out of them and do the job ourselves with a company that we are very familiar with and we know to be very fair-priced. They only offered us $1,900. When the job is gonna finish, I will have to supply AHS the receipt to get the cash back. They wanted to only cover the machine itself. I was very unhappy and disappointed.
AHS charges you and doesn’t cover you 100 percent. The contractor comes and AHS decides which ones they're covering and which ones they're not and how much to charge for every item not covered. If there’s an adjustment that needs to be done, they charge you an outrageous number while every other person that will come and do the job for you will not charge you such charge. In the end, I had the feeling that with the amount that they ask me to cover out of pocket, they’re covering the cost of the whole job. That was my gut feeling. Even if I was gonna lose money, I’m not gonna give them the job. I didn’t feel that it’s right for them to charge me these prices. I’m very dissatisfied to the point that I’m thinking of coming out of American Home Shield.

My stove's gas burners were not adjusted properly so the flames were jumping out of the burners. American Home Shield sent a couple of guys out from an appliance repair company who didn't speak English very well and communicated with each other in Spanish. They immediately said that the stove needed a bunch of parts. They wrote down a bunch of parts that they were going to order and said that the parts needed to be replaced and that it would take a week to ten days. And then they would be back to install the new parts and then that would fix the problem. However, I never heard back from them.
The only way that I knew that they weren't ever coming back was I got an email from American Home Shield telling me that another appliance repair company was answering my service call. It was the initial service call, and they did not mention that the other guys were never coming back or that the call had been transferred to someone. The company got out and it took the guy ten minutes to adjust all six burners and he was gone.
That's been the case with a lot of my appliances. I tell the American Home Shield operator I have Fisher & Paykel appliances in my kitchen and it's a New Zealand company and there are few appliance companies that are qualified to work on those appliances. After several times of American Home Shield sending out people, they just look and they say that they don’t have an idea how to work on it, and that I’m gonna have to get somebody else.
Every time that I have a problem with any of my kitchen appliances, I tell them exactly what I've got, what the problem is, and to not send someone out that can't work or is not familiar with the brand because that frustrates me. Them having to redispatch somebody wastes my time. They may attempt to repair it and not know what they're doing and damage it even further. They never understand when I tell them that.
The guy that eventually came out and fixed the problem told me that the problem with American Home Shield vendors is they all say, "I can fix anything", and then they get out there and they can't. Then they just tell the customer that their not familiar with that brand, but they get the service call charge. And then the next guy has to come out for free. Then they told me on the phone that there would be another service charge. When I finally put this all together, that they had transferred the call, and called the 800 number, they said that I'll be responsible for another service call charge. So, I said, "I don't think so, because the guys that you sent out here the first time couldn't repair it and you didn't call me to tell me they were never coming back."
We went back and forth, and then they got a supervisor on the phone and then another supervisor. The upshot of it all was they couldn't make a decision on the phone whether they were going to charge me another service call charge so they said, "We'll call you back and let you know what we've decided." They did call back and they said, "Okay, there will be no second service call charge and here's who is coming", so on and so forth. The stove finally got fixed after a month of all of this going back and forth and the wrong guys and the new guys.
A lot of times American Home Shield wants to replace parts instead of replacing the entire unit. I had a freestanding ice maker in my kitchen and they replaced every major part in that ice maker before the last guy came out. They've replaced the compressor, the motor, the refrigeration unit, the ice delivery mechanism – every single thing. The guy goes, "That's $3000 worth of parts." I said, "The whole thing was $1400." Then he goes, "I'm going to recommend a new one."
The guy and American Home Shield had this big, long conversation on the phone, making him justify a new unit. And he finally said, "This guy has been repairing this now for three months and they've replaced every part in it when it should have been replaced from the get-go. You guys have wasted two and a half times the cost of this ice maker by replacing parts when you could have just, three months ago, bought him a new one and saved yourself $1600. But you didn't want to do it that way." After 30 minutes on the phone arguing with the American Home Shield people, they agreed that they would replace it. It took ten days to two weeks to get a new one, and then they came out and replaced it.
I've found that's a trend with them. I understand not throwing out the baby with the bathwater. If it's a simple part and it's $10 or $20 and it will make it right and fix it, I'm all for it. I don't care what it takes to make it work. I just want it to work, whether that's parts or a new one whatever, let's get it up and running. Let's get it fixed so people don't have to keep coming back out every three weeks, months, six weeks, whatever it is. Because that's frustrating.
I understand they're in the business of fixing things, not replacing things. I get the business model. I understand they can't just start buying people new refrigerators or new stoves because they don't work right this second. Let's find out what's wrong with it, let's fix it, but let's make sure that it's the repair that will fix the problem.
I had to do a lot of legwork to make AHS to get out. I've had friends of mine that have been canceled by American Home Shield because they had too many repairs. And I get it. If people are calling them every week and it's something in your home, at some point the folks are going to say, "This guy has got a bunch of old junky appliances and we're going to go broke fixing them all. Let's just go ahead and cut him off and cut our losses." A lot of my frustration would be eliminated if AHS can get the right people to come out the first time. It takes half a day of my time every time there's a problem in my home scheduling, getting them there, them calling me, leaving work or whatever I'm doing, getting them to the house, waiting for them. And then again when they can't fix it or they don't know what they're doing, again them coming back out and they get there and they say, "We didn't know it. You'll have to get somebody else."
The more people in positions of authority at that company know what the actual customers go through, then they can institute policies and procedures within the company where they could streamline a lot of what they do. Because it's costing them money to make these mistakes as well as being frustrating and time-consuming for me. It's costing them money to dispatch two or three different companies to fix something that took a guy, who knew what he was doing, ten minutes to fix.
I would like to follow up with you about your experience with American Home Shield.

American Home Shield is the way to go. If you own a home, which I do now, it's nice and neat to have. I had a great experience with them and I talk about the company all the time. Several months ago, the motor in one of my ceiling fans went out. I also had another ceiling fan with an inner piece that broke. I went online to submit a claim and check. I told Home Shield's rep my situation. I didn't know if we needed an electrician, but the rep figured it out and sent a guy from a reference company. The inner piece that broke wasn't under warranty with Home Shield. But the technician looked at the fan and he happened to determine which problem was reported if they didn't cover the piece. The technician did a good job. The fans are now working.
The contractors that Home Shield sent are all cordial, respectful, and professional too. They respect your home. They come in and do what they got to do. Also, they talk over the issue with you. If they know they need Home Shield’s approval, they'll tell you right upfront, “'Hey, I need to turn this forward at Home Shield,” and then they'll get back with us and we'll go from there. However, one thing that irritates me about the company is that every renewal period, they change your contract number. I have this locked in my phone. I have to memorize the first one and next year, I got a new number. I don't do this like that, but that's their way.
Thanks for being transparent in your review. We are glad that you have decided "American Home Shield is the way to go" year after year!

I recently had issues with my AC (leaking all over floor and air not cool enough), so I put in a request to AHS for someone to come out and take a look. Once I received the company's name I looked them up, I found horrible reviews on 2 different websites. This obviously concerned me, for multiple reasons, so I contacted AHS right away and requested a different company. I was told by the representative that the company who they assigned is who I had to deal with, and if I had any problems to let them know AFTER the fact.
The amount of issues I did have with this company is completely ridiculous. From them not having me or my information on the schedule, calling me 3 times before they even came to my house (taking up my morning at work) to calling me one more time telling me I owe them money for this repair and that repair (when they hadn't been out to my house yet - they had me completely confused with another customer), to them requesting to use my pots and bowls because they didn't have bucket, and hardly looking at anything on my AC and just assuming it needed Freon...which they added right there before talking with me about anything. 1 week and $300 later, my AC is having the same problems again!
The representative I originally talked to at the company told me that they will do whatever they have to do to 'repair' AC's, instead of replacing them so the customer has to pay for everything and AHS doesn't have to pay for anything. I already wrote a complaint letter and attached the 'live chat' I had with the representative, and the reviews I had pulled up, and mailed it last week but I haven't heard from them. But since I woke up this morning with my AC leaking all over the floor and air not cool enough (original issue), I reached back out to AHS and requested to speak to a supervisor. Apparently supervisors are not available for you to speak with, so you have to put in a request and they will contact you in 48 hours.
As customers, we pay too much money and put too much of our trust into AHS. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone after dealing with what I had to deal with, and plan on spreading word of this horrible experience through multiple outlets. Not only has this situation caused me to miss work, but also sleepless nights caused by the stress of this situation. It is not my responsibility to be checking in with a company to make sure I am confirmed on their schedule (but I'm glad I did) and for me to supply them with my household items to use for them to get their job done.
The company they sent to my house was a complete joke, and I did not feel comfortable with them there at all. AHS should be ashamed of the way they have handled my original concerns and that I am even in this situation. Also, they should have more pride in their company than to send such a disorganized company who doesn't even get the job done, and makes customers uncomfortable.
I finally spoke to multiple customer service representatives whom I had to explain the situation to each time, they all seemed very sympathetic to my situation and that I was even having this experience, but they kept telling me that the company would come back out, but I do not want that company in my house. I feel as if I am getting ripped off by them and AHS...not to mention how uncomfortable they made me.
I was then told they would 'review my account' and offer me cash to use another company based off of my diagnosis from the company - this is the biggest joke, this company cannot even give a diagnosis because they didn't look into anything! One technician took about 1 minute looking at the spot where I was. There was a big leak, and they immediately just put in Freon and left. (I now have to replace my baseboards and possibly the flooring of where there was water damage from the leak that happened after they 'fixed' my unit which was not even a week later).
It's been a week and I have not heard from AHS, so I had to reach out to them about getting this resolved since it's about to be 90 degrees this weekend. I am now being told that the cash they offered I may not receive because the company claims they completed my job. I am beyond frustrated at AHS, why do I pay so much money to have a home warranty when they won't even help me? The kicker to all of this is I had a family friend come look at the unit, he laughed and said, “I can't even believe they would try to put Freon in this, it obviously needs to be replaced.” I am so frustrated that I am even in this situation... If only they would have listened to my initial concerns the first time I would not even be in this situation.

I had had an exceedingly negative experience with American Home Shield in my prior house so I almost did not choose it. At the time, I was really tormented by the fact that they gave numbers that didn’t apply on the weekend, and so I got the message from hell that made it sound like somebody was going to call back and they wouldn’t. They have every right not to work on the weekend but many of us work all the time and so, we need a clue. This happened two different years. I was a slow learner and I didn't realize it. They need to proof their documents a bit better for somebody to use them. As in, if they called on the weekend, we’re at work. That is not a recent disaster but that’s a good rule of thumb. The customer should not be the person proofing the documents.
But when I purchased this house, they had already picked up a Home Shield contract and so it transferred with the house. I decided to give them another chance and thus far, since I purchased this house in 2011, I have not seen the same behaviors. I’m still okay with their service but I am attentive. I find the hold wait to be long but if that’s their worst crime, I can cope with it. Also, the basic tone of people has been different and it was a pit before. There’s nothing like a class action suit to get their attention. At least based upon what I've read on the internet, that helped to cause some of the problems to back off. That’s what changed it.

Our refrigerator broke down on Sunday May 28th, Memorial Day weekend. We submitted service request online and the technician from Protech Appliance Service came on 30th as Monday was a holiday. He charged $75. It took him five minutes to diagnose that the compressor was not working and that it was an expensive part. If they repair, it might break down again. He also said that it will take them 24 to 48 hours to submit their diagnosis and pricing to AHS.
I called AHS and every time had to wait more than 20 minutes to speak with customer service rep. They said, "We are waiting for the diagnosis from the tech." I then called the service company and they said they have submitted everything. This continued daily till June 6th. Finally AHS called on 6th and offered $670 which was the cost of compressor, labor charges plus tax. They said we could either get the compressor replaced or get a new refrigerator and $670 will be reimbursed after two to three weeks. We have been without a refrigerator for twelve days now. Our new refrigerator is being delivered on 9th.

I never do this but today and I really hate having too but I have had more than enough and I am going to speak out!!! I am a senior that works full time in the ministry, with a disabled husband, a ill son and a amputee sibling who lives with us occasionally. I have kept my home warranty for such as time as we would need major repairs in our home as I don't have a lot of physical help or income. However, I would not recommend American Home Shield to anyone, any place, anywhere for any reason. You would do better to save the yearly cost of this warranty in a separate account and earn the interest awaiting needed repairs to occur because at the end of the day most major repairs will still cost you a "arm and a leg" with this warranty. I have been with the company for more than 12 years having received it as a part of my home purchase.
You would think that a customer who has been with a company that long would have a great relationship with them... NOT!!!! At first we only needed minor repairs and the service fee was very nominal so it seemed fine. Most recently, as my home is aging, the cost of the warranty as well as the service fee have increase which wouldn't be so bad if I was experiencing the excessive "uncovered cost" that exist with major repairs. Let me explain some of my situations (in no certain order)...
Last year I had a problem with my dishwasher holding water. I only use it when we have gatherings so I did not know it was doing so. I begin to smell a moldy smell in my kitchen and discovered the dishwasher was the problem. I called AHS who sent out a contractor who said they "had" to repair it, even though it was an older model, the door was hard to shut, the knob was hard to turn and had mold in it, cause AHS would not authorize them to replace it. So they came back with parts a couple of days later cleaned and repaired it (leaving the molded cleaning rag on my counter). I ran the dishwasher several times after that with bleach and vinegar to make sure the mold was removed. I also checked it several times after that to make sure the water was no longer standing in it.
Then came the opportunity for me to actually use it which was several weeks later. I opened it up and lo and behold there was water and mold. I called AHS who told me that it was too long after the original repairs so I would have to pay another $75 service fee (to the same company that came before... really). My dishwasher is still not replaced or working properly. A combination of the dishwasher and a now leaky garbage disposal (which AHS previously repaired) I now have a mold problem around my kitchen sink area that is probably making us sick and will cost me a fortune to repair.
Now on to my furnace. Our furnace went out during the winter before last. I called AHS and they sent out a contractor. I was told the furnace needed to be replaced and I would need to pay out of pocket cost of upwards $1200-1600. Okay a senior, on a limited income with disabled people???? I don't have it like that which is why I was paying for a warranty. Oh yeah, contractor eventually became very rude and condescending to me. They initially told me at my home it would be $600-800 but once I complained his final quote was the higher figure. They said AHS supplied the actual furnace and the labor cost surrounding that but they did not pay for essentially the "tie in" to our system/ductwork and or some fabrication that would be needed. (I might be a little off in how I am saying it.) Sooooooo make me understand?
I asked for a second opinion as I wanted to see if I could get a better cost and I really did not want to give that contractor a dime of my money, but was told that once a contractor submits their cost AHS is under contract to them to do the work. Sooooooo the contractor's has a better deal than the customer? I was told my only other option was to take a buyout offer of the cost AHS would spend in my situation. I asked how much that would be and was told they would calculated and get back with me.
Well after a couple of days they called me back and offered me a few hundred dollars (to get a decent furnace for the size of my home with a good rating was going to be way more than that before labor - what were they putting in?). Really... That's all y'all pay the contractors... Is that why they submit these absorbent "uncovered cost." I would also have to have the work done out of pocket then submit a receipt for to get that!!!
I eventually did talk with someone who was nice enough to get me another hundred dollar out of AHS but I had to pay the majority of the cost to get the furnace replaced. Now summer before last, my air conditional went out. I called AHS. They sent out a contractor who said it was shot and needed replacing. They submitted their recommendation to AHS who agreed and then called me to let me know I would have to pay for the freon and I think some line (can't remember those details right now). This was actually before the furnace and again I was not happy with it but paid the around $4-500 cost (again I wasn't prepared to do this today so I might be off on the figure a little). So they installed the air conditioner (manufactured June 2015) that summer (it didn't run a complete season).
Well the next summer rolls around (2016) and the brand new air conditioner stops running. I called AHS who tells me I have to pay another $75 service charge as it was several months (not years) after it had been installed. Okay so this equipment is not a year old and it stops running. The contractor said the compressor had went out and needed replacing as well as the freon which was going to cost me another $4-500 dollars. I just did not have it and it was close to the end of the season so I decided to wait until the spring of this year to get it repaired, hoping I could save the money up over the months. Well I did and called AHS this week to have a contractor come repair the air conditioner. They came out this week and said the compressor did in fact need to be replaced and it needed freon which was going to be a out of pocket cost of $1260 this time to be exact. REALLY!!!! Imagine my shock!
I called AHS several times and, guess what, nothing has changed. I either pay the money or take the couple hundred buyout option. I had a couple other cooling contractors look at it and they both said the exact same thing. AHS should have never let them put that unit it in the first place. It uses R-22 freon. All heating/cooling contractors know that the Government is mandating phasing out those units because the R-22 freon is considered hazardous and cannot be purchased after 2020 which is why it is such a premium now. They also were both of the opinion that the contractor who installed it knew AHS would not scrutinize what they were doing and was simply "getting rid" of what was a useless unit. They both said there were also other things wrong (they both said the same other things) and that the unit was shot and needed to be completely replaced.
They suggested it had to be installed improperly in the first place because it shouldn't have happened to such a new unit. One contractor felt sorry for me and changed out a $150 part free of charge hoping it might be the problem instead of the compressor. Neither charged me a service charge by the way. And both expressed how these warranty companies are ripping people off. So I called AHS back and told them what was said and was told that AHS doesn't promise to provide "government mandated equipment." I said, "So what is SEER 13 appliances then?" To which she answered that AHS concern is that if the product works they are not responsible to make sure that I can buy Freon down the road.
But again if the government is mandating to stop selling something that you are expecting a lifetime of at least the next 5-10 years why would you allow it to be put in your customer's home...and at a premium cost for supplies? Well, today as I was sitting here trying to figure out what I was going to do next, I decided to stop anyone else from going through what I am going through right now. I hope this was helpful.

I always submit claims to American Home Shield over the phone and it’s an easy process for me. Last time, I submitted a claim over the phone regarding my stove which wasn’t lighting up and the person I spoke to was very helpful. The service techs who came were also very friendly. I use my stove everyday and it’s fine. I had wonderful experience with AHS that’s why I stayed with them.

I noticed that my air wasn’t cooling. And then I went to the attic to retrieve something and the attic was cold. I looked around and noticed there was a hole in front of the air-conditioning unit. I submitted a claim online and American Home Shield called and told us when they were coming. The contractor who came was nice and my interaction with him went well. I feel like the house is cooler since the repair. I went to the attic yesterday and no air was seeping so whatever he did, he fixed the problem. All in all, AHS is convenient to have.

There was a sock stuck in a drain and I submitted a claim with American Home Shield. I did it online then I had to call them. It was a simple process and setting up an appointment online is good. It saves time for me on the phone waiting. But my interaction with the representative when I called was okay. The contractors also knew what they were doing and they weren't in the house long enough. By the time I called to find out if everything was okay, they'd already finished the job and they got the sock out.
I am glad we were able to get that sock out of the drain and provide you with a good experience.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for an outdoor air-conditioning unit. Everything went all right with their representative, but though the technicians were very nice and very professional, it took a while for them to come out. They determined that the fan blade had broken but had to order the parts. So the entire experience took a little bit longer than I would have wanted especially in a 95-degree heat. Additionally, my outdoor unit is making a heavy noise since they replaced the fan blade, and that makes the unit sound like it still needs to be looked at. But the problem with American Home Shield is I have to pay the deductible again unless I can absolutely say that it's the same issue.

Three weeks ago American Home Shield sent a rep out to fix our AC. Once "fixed" rep looked over it and said it was in great condition but the last rep must have been lazy because they did not do quality work (yes they were with the same repair company). He said he would have no more issues and checked all regular maintenance areas to make sure.
Here we are three weeks later and the AC went out again. The unit is over 20 years old and is breaking down when we keep the temperature set on a reasonable temperatures during a time of year when there are no heat waves causing the AC to work harder than normal. I am very concerned what will happen when the weather actually does get hot.
The interesting or concerning part of all of this is that the company has tried saying this is only the second time it's gone out so there is no issue. When we mentioned that we actually have every invoice from the past two (and only two) previous owners showing they have been servicing this unit for over a decade they started interrupting us and tries to get us off the phone.
They said they would call back no later than 1pm and we had to follow up at 4pm. We still do not have a resolution on the matter. They are going to have someone come out in 4 days to repair it. We are very disappointed by the fact that we are paying for a service That we are not getting at all. Given we have all documentation they should not make this such a difficult process. Until then we have no AC in our bedrooms and two children one of which isn't even 2 yet in a hot house.

I made a service request in early May 2017 to follow up on an issue with my AC that has been recurring since June 2016. The company that came out last year replaced the coolant and I paid $250. A few weeks later, AC not cooling. They came back and found a leak and added more coolant. When I called in May, that company is no longer an AHS vendor so they sent another company. The company cannot find the leak but told me they would be back to test the lines. 3 weeks later they have not returned and AHS has done nothing but call/email them and tell me they are coming.
Today I ask them to send another company, and I'm told I would have to pay another deductible if they change the dispatch! Seriously?? I ask to speak with a supervisor and was told the supervisor said s/he could not do anything else... "The only option was to move forward." As soon as this issue is resolved, I will be switching to a new warranty company. This is unacceptable. Up until now, I have been patient and did not fault AHS, but this lack of responsiveness to an inefficient sub-contractor means AHS is complicit in the lack of customer service. I spent 40 minutes on the phone, holding for most of that time, and I am no closer to getting a resolution than before I called.
I would be glad to assist you in getting your AC unit repaired. I will be contacting you soon to follow up.

Have called the warranty company a total of 7 times to get this resolved and have them find a new company to help with this repair. On hold with them for over 30 minutes each time I call. I have been with AHS for 13 years. It was included for one year when we purchased our home. It was great for the first few years, replacing a 25 year old AC unit, and other less major things. However, as the years went by, the technicians and service went downhill. The company that installed the AC put something in wrong or backwards, and it caused water damage in the basement, which ultimately led to mold. AHS doesn't cover mold. Nor do they cover the fact that the company they sent out that botched the job caused the mold. Same company also went out of business shortly thereafter, so I had to cover the mold.
I recently had an electric hot water heater fail. Plumbing company wanted to charge me $125 for an aluminum drip pan ($20 at Home Depot), and $150 to pull a permit, even though I told them that according to the permits supervisor for my county no permit was needed, they still wanted to charge me!! They should be charged criminally! These are the kinds of folks AHS has on their payroll. And clearly, they don't compensate the contractors well, so the contractors will try to squeeze it out of you! I am currently in a dispute with them over a $75 service fee that was never cancelled on their end. Not my fault. They have incapable call-takers that most of the time have no idea what they're doing. With AHS, the customer is always wrong. So, after 13 years, I am cancelling my contract.

Considering cancelling, inconsistent contractors-Our AC unit went out on our property on our upstairs unit in Sept. 2016. We filed a claim and was assigned a contractor (Contractor A). Contractor A did not contact us, I had to call AHS and was told I would have to contact the contractor to schedule an appt. I contact them and their availability wasn't for another week. After they came out to property they said the compressor is bad and has to be replaced and filled up with Freon. So it takes a few more weeks for the part to come in and AHS covers the compressor and we have to cover the difference in price of Freon. After this occurs our upstairs AC unit works just fine. I ask Contractor A to check our downstairs unit too but is unable to since the service call is for our upstairs unit. Since the downstairs unit didn't show any signs of issues we didn't file a claim but we knew it would be a matter of time.
Well, come June, 2017 the downstairs unit does the same exact thing as our upstairs unit did for our first claim 9 months ago. Due to the age (house being built in 2008) we knew the downstairs unit would have to have the same thing done as our upstairs unit. We file a claim and we get assigned a different contractor (Contractor B). Not understanding how the process works I just assume AHS no longer has a contract with Contractor A maybe because they were slow to respond the first time, I'm unsure. Contractor B contacts me quickly and schedules an appt. in the next few days. Contractor B comes to the property and states the Freon is low by around 2-4 lbs. and just needs to be filled up. I state that's what happened with our upstairs unit 9 months ago and the compressor was bad that's what caused the Freon to be low and had to be replaced and refilled.
Contractor B says he cannot find any issues just that it is low and Contractor B is charging me an arm and a leg to just fill the unit. Contractor A told us there was no point in filling up the Freon in our upstairs unit because the compressor is bad and would just leak again and filling it up would only be a temporary fix. Contractor B is only wanting to fill up our unit which would not fix our problem and I would have to file a claim again in the future for failure again. I do not feel Contractor B knows what he is doing and I refused his service because of this. I called AHS and they stated Contractor B has to complete the job since they are assigned to the job. They told me Contractor B was assigned since contractors are assigned based upon availability; however Contractor A didn't have a quick availability and we were assigned to them 9 months ago.
I complained saying that I would have just preferred Contractor A to come back out to the property instead of Contractor B and the representative told me I would have to request that before Contractor B was assigned for the job. I don't understand the process and nowhere in my contract does it explain that when I file a claim my request is placed in a "pool" of contractors and then I am assigned to whoever is free. I feel that I am placed in a situation where I am "stuck" with a contractor who is telling me incorrect information about how to resolve our problem and I fear for any future claims because I will question whether or not I am getting a knowledgeable company or not since I do not know the options of contractors I have for what job.
I called and spoke with Contractor A and an independent contractor to ask questions about my situation and they have both told me the Freon being low would mean there is a leak and a compressor is bad. I just feel I cannot do anything about my situation and I would pay close to $400 in Freon to be filled up in my downstairs unit when that is not truly the correction to my problem. I'm just disappointed that I had such a good experience 9 months ago and now I am in a bad experience with an unknowledgeable contractor for something that was just resolved for the same exact item.

I have this warranty for 3 years and NEVER had a claim. I called American Home Shield for a plumber. The faucet in the shower came off the wall. This guy comes which he is not even a plumber from S.A.P Home Services. He stated that the faucet was missing a screw and I had two options: 1) find the screw so AHS will allow repairs (because the do not cover "lost parts") or 2) buy a new faucet so they will install it and charge me by the hour. I did not accept his offer because I knew he was taking for a ride. I went to Lowe's and the salesperson told me all that I needed was a little and insignificant Allen screw (which he just gave me one for free), he explained how to screw back on the faucet, and he recommended me to purchased the Allen wrench to tighten back the faucet to the wall.
The Allen wrench cost me $3.00 and 5 minutes to do it. I called AHS and tried to reason with them. These "robots" (because they can't be called humans) are trained to said: "We do not cover lost parts". Finally, I was so frustrated that I decided to cancel this junk of warranty and the representative got the nerves to tell me that I was going to be charged an administration fees, plus $75.00 for this visit and one extra month for I needed to cancel 30 days before next payment. We have now spoken to agents for AHS three times over the last couple of months who claim that the correction was requested but it still has not been processed. I still cannot report service on the internet and have to wait ridiculous wait times on their phone system. They knew everything they needed to do to fix the problem and now, the microwave's working great. We've been with American Home Shield for a number of years, and each time we had a problem with whatever it was, they fixed it. We had a pool pump that went; they came out, fixed it straight away. We've had washing machines and stuff like that go wrong over the years, and they fixed it. However, this year, with my most recent claim for a fridge, it started in October of last year and went on for about five months.
The fridge was only about four years old. To file it was easy, but to get it sorted out was very difficult. We had the technicians called out about five times, and each time they kept saying it was something else that was wrong with the fridge. I asked Home Shield about replacing, they said no. They categorically refused and said that they had no responsibility. They were happy to keep sending people out and had two different companies come in to do it, but it just was never fixed. It never ran properly and we had to keep throwing food out. It would stay cold for a few days and then it would go again, so I ended up getting rid of the fridge and buying a new one. Home Shield did not help in any way, shape, or form. At the end of the year, I may well think about changing and getting another company.

The contractor they sent was responsive and did a great job. Everything is okay with the repair at this point, but I had to contact them again to have it working correctly since it was not working up to standard. They did what they were covered to do but it required much more. The repair was very expensive and I’m paying for it for a long time. I had three emergencies back-to-back and the latest was the furnace, but the two prior incidents were very smooth. I am totally satisfied with AHS and I would definitely renew with them again.

We haven't had anything breaking in the house but it looks like if we had AHS, if something weren't right, then it will be a whole lot cheaper to have someone come out for just a deductible. To me that's worth it. I don't care how much we have to pay monthly. And sure enough, we got it, within a month or a month and a half, something broke.
Our most recent claim was for our garage door that wouldn't open and I thought it was the garage door opener. I went online, submitted the claim to American Home Shield and someone called me within 24 hours. Their website was fine and I had no problems. Also, the guy that came out was really great and clearly professional. He was early which I loved because I hate for people to be late. He told me it's my spring and I looked up. Sure enough, it was broken in half. I thought it was supposed to be like that because not a garage door pops up. I get in my car, I back out, I drive in and I get out. I never looked behind me. He came in exactly what was going on, what was wrong with it and fixed it in less than an hour. The spring part wasn't covered by AHS but it was only $50 and because of American Home Shield, I'm grateful.
The door has been perfect since. It does exactly what I need it to do just when I need it to: go up and come down. Getting in and out of my garage is really important for me because I leave my house to go to work at 4:15 in the morning and I'm a charge nurse so I can't be trapped in my house when patients are waiting to dialyze. Also, we're doing great. There's no stopping, having to lift the door and move the cars outside the door. I'd tell even the people that don't have American Home Shield to get it and I would recommend the technician to anybody. AHS did great with choosing him to be a part of their contractors. They're a great company and my experience has been pleasurable.
Ms. Soboyejo,

I called in claims to American Home Shield and the process wasn't hard. My interaction with the claims rep was also good. The worst complaint I have is that service takes a long time. We had two claims, for the refrigerator and the washing machine, and they finished at the same time. The first company that came out for the ref was good but they had to order one little bitty part when to me, they should have just replaced the ice bucket. When I called to order, the lady said they can't order the ice bucket or they won't give it to me. Plus, the water freezing up in the door is something they're obviously not able to take care of.
Then a second technician came out and he was awesome and very knowledgeable. He worked on the washing machine and replaced the refrigerator. Right off, he said the door can't be fixed because it kept freezing. He knew we've had that problem and they had already been out so many times to replace the little part. He even put a tape inside the refrigerator to redirect the air. It was a zoo. I had no water in the refrigerator and the ice maker didn't work for weeks while trying to get them to fix it. They would come out but as soon as they leave, the refrigerator would do it again. Finally, AHS was good enough to give us some money to get a new refrigerator.
Although I wasn't pushing to get a new refrigerator 'cause I liked my old one. It was just that they weren't able to fix it. That's fine and we got a new ref. However, they weren't the same size and my other one had some other kind of front that never show dirt. It was really good. Then, we paid a little more to get the same door because it was an upgrade. They didn't really care what the outside looks like as long as it was a workable refrigerator. I understand that though, and I'm glad I have a workable refrigerator now too.
As for the washing machine, the guy that came out ordered one part, came back and fixed it. It's been working fine since. So far, so good. The problem was that he could have fixed it a lot sooner but it took seven days to get the part in to fix it. I couldn't use the washing machine since it wouldn't pump the water out. I had to take all the clothes out and do what I could. AHS is a big company and it still took so long to get the part. If they could expedite that, it would be awesome. If that had been our air conditioner, I would have been really unhappy. Overall, the experience was all good except for the time delay.
Hello, Chris. I am so glad that we were able to get everything working for you. Delays are unfortunately an issue when parts have to be ordered. Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to let us know about your service experience.

AHS upfront seems very efficient and professional for what they do. From the response time, the communication, to the ease of use, they are great. However the problem is, the companies they use to do the repairs are seemingly unqualified to diagnose the problems. Maybe because of economics they seek out companies/contractors that offer the lowest bid/rate. Be careful of the diagnosis especially for AC repairs because of cost of freon in the event the repair means you will have to re-fill. It may be wise to get your own independent diagnosis from your own choosing even if it cost you a trip fee.
I would like to follow up with you and help get your AC unit repaired.

The tech said that if I turn the handle past where he put the "H", I can't turn it more. So, instead of paying $125 to have a plumber come out, I'd rather spend ¢10 on a washer. I'm going to keep changing that washer out because it takes about six months before it leaks. It wasn't a good experience but that has nothing to do with the people that came out for that. I'm cool with the plumbers because it was just the bad design on that faucet pipe. I also had a water leak which they found was coming out of my wife's bathroom.
I also had a refrigerator repair done. The tech came out and he looked at the fridge, and did this and that. They said they didn't have the part and they waited instruction. I had to wait for two weeks for a repair man to come out and it was too long. He got the part and he put it on, it was about 8:00 at night. He said, "Well, I don't know if the refrigerator is gonna get cold yet or not. I'll have to wait an hour or so." He left and the refrigerator never got cold. Also, the tech didn't charge me the right amount. He said, "Well, my thing is paying $119 for that." Then, they called me back and said, "Hey, you were $5 short or something on your payment." I discussed that with the guy when he was there, that I'm supposed to pay this. That wasn't cool because I didn't have a refrigerator for two weeks. Another guy came out and he spent a whole bunch of time in there. He got it working the second time.
I also had to get some work done on my septic system. I specifically said that I wanted that covered. But they said, "Oh, we don't cover anything outside the home." I said, "Well why am I paying that septic system in if you don't want to cover it? It's outside the home. So why is that on the contract?" I paid for a service that they didn't provide me because I thought that the septic tank was supposed to be covered.
American Home Shield has nothing to do with that. It was the people that that they were sending out. The second guy that did my refrigerator repair was outstanding. The first guy was not so much. The problem with that was he got here so late in the evening he just wanted to go home. I don't want him there either because it's night time. You visit people's house during the daytime to do stuff like that. You don't come at 8:00. I took off work that whole day and he didn't get through that night.
I'm a retired military, and I've been a supervisor. I've managed government and very large medical clinic. I have a bachelor's degree in engineering so I'm not just some guy. I didn't know the root and that's what we deal with, root causes. But as far as American Home Shield, I plan on renewing because some of these repairs are minor.
I would like to thank you for leaving us such thorough feedback. I am glad that is has benefited your home.

I have had American Home Shield for 16 years now and it's one of the best things I’ve done in that period. We’re very satisfied with them. Every now and then, we might get a technician that’s a bit flaky. If I was suspect on the ability, all I’ve had to do is give AHS a call and they would send somebody to replace these guys. That happened recently and we’re very satisfied with American Home Shield’s response. They’ve done very well and I often recommend them to people.
I would like to thank you for being a valued customer of American Home Shield for over 16 years. I am pleased to hear that we have been able to service your requests and deliver good service while doing so.

I had American Home Shield come out to my house for two things on the same day. I live in a mobile home and had a water leak. One of my friends told me that the A.C. was leaking underneath, so there was a hole in my ductwork. The guy AHS sent asked what I thought happened. I didn't crawl under the house, but I said, "I don't know. I don't know if a man had gone under there or what." The guy told me, at my front door to my face, that they don't go under houses. He said they only do them in the attic. He wrote up something and gave me a carbon copy, which I couldn't read. I had to pay this joker $75 for doing absolutely nothing and I'm still steamed about it.
Thirty minutes later, a guy shows up all the way out from Dallas to do the same thing to me. He said the opening through my sewer line was three feet under the house and that they’re plumbers, not dogs. They don’t go under houses, so I’ll have to do it and extend the pipe to the house before they can do the work. If I got under there and extended it, then I'm a plumber. I could do the work myself and I wouldn't need them. So I refused to pay the second one.
AHS dispatched two people that refused to do any work. So I called and complained to the dispatcher that they sent somebody out here that doesn't go under the house. She said the first guy went under, looked and said it's animal damage. I said, "First of all, he didn't go look. I told him face to face that I thought it might be. He never went under the house at all. So if he said he did, he's a liar." I'm upset that I paid this guy and he didn't do anything. The lady started saying something about animal damage and that was in the contract. In my contract, it didn't say anything about animal damage, that it's not covered if it was. Regardless of that, he didn't even look in the first place. For me, if the kind of service people they employ will lie, then I don't want them at my house because that lying will become stealing.
When I was talking to the dispatcher, I asked what they're going to do about this and she said that there's nothing they can do. She was very, very rude in her tone and manner. I'm a paying customer. I don't feel like I deserve to be disrespected by her and then not get service done and have to pay the show up fee. I didn't want to sit and argue and I did not want to deal with it anymore. So I asked them to cancel my service.
I'm not gonna keep paying $75 a pop for them to dispatch somebody that won't do the work. I signed up for someone to show up, do work, and then I pay him the $75 show up fee. I've had the service for years and had other claims a long time ago. I pay a monthly charge, and then a service fee when they show up, and if I can't get work done and I'm paying all this money, then the service is not worth it to me. It's disappointing. Not only will I not recommend them to my friends, but I have been warning them against American Home Shield.
Wow Mr. Shehane. You have been through a lot of hassle trying to get items repaired and I deeply apologize for that. I see that you have canceled your warranty, but we would like to contact you to learn more about your experience with AHS. A social media specialist will follow with you as soon as possible. Thanks.

I’ve had a positive experience and plan on continuing to use American Home Shield. However, I’ve gotten a couple of contractors come out and I hate to say that I wasn’t satisfied with the work but it had been better before. I’ve had to have a subcontractor come out several times to refill the Freon in our air-conditioning unit. We have a leak and the best they can do is keep filling it. Nothing wrong with the service I’ve received but I was hoping that it could be replaced at some point but the whole thing has to shut off for them to cover it. But anyways, I’ve been satisfied and happy. The only other incident that I wasn’t happy with is when one of the subcontractors didn’t call me ahead of time and then billed me $75 because they showed up and I wasn’t there at the house. I called AHS and they took that charge off my account, and I was real happy about that.
Hello, Zachary. Definitely let us know when you have issues with the contractor that comes out to perform the services on your home. Glad to hear that overall you are pleased with the policy. Have a great day.

They send a contractor to fix a problem. The so-called licensed contractor does not know his ** from his elbow. Wants to charge $800-$1000 for a particular freon (R22) in a compressor which does not require that freon. Now that he knows that I'm not an uneducated customer he does not want to return my calls. As per American Home Shield keeps telling me that they have no other contractor so that's my only option. All I want is someone to replace the compressor as American Home Shield said they would pay for and not have to pay this dimwit contractor any more money. I would rather have not kept paying American Home Shield and with that money saved could have replaced compressor four times over.
I'm going to take this further up the ladder to get some results. I'm a Realtor and I'll definitely inform everyone of my clients, friends and family members NOT to get a Home warranty from American Home Shield. If there was a negative number/star rating that is what I would give them. Totally useless, confrontational, unwilling to help their own customers. What a joke...
Hi, Bob. I do apologize that you have had a bad service experience. I have sent you an email in order to obtain more information from you, as I am unable to locate you in our system. Looking forward to receiving a response in order to assist you further.

We recently purchased a plan with AHS for my 89 year old father who lives with a caretaker. Our first experience has been extremely disappointing and I hope we did not just throw his money away. There was a leak from under the boiler and I called a local HVAC person who has done work for me. It took him close to 2 hours to thoroughly test the system to find the source of the leak... running downstairs shower, getting water temp very hot, etc... He identified the problem as a hole in the heat exchanger. It is an 11 year old Weil-Mclain boiler and when he called in the serial number we were told the part is under warranty and they would cover 90% of the replacement cost (no labor). At this point my sister reminded me that my dad has an AHS policy. I told the plumber to bill us for time spent and that we had to follow this thru with AHS. All of this happened on Wednesday 5/31.
We contacted AHS and they immediately texted the name of a service company that would call me within 24 hours to make an appointment. Advanced Air Services came on Friday, spent 1/2 hour inspected the boiler and decided it needed a new electrical panel. When I heard this I contacted him and left an urgent message that the issue is not the electric panel and I sent him a photo of the hole in the heat exchanger. He called me Monday morning and advised that he was putting in for a transfer of service as a certified Weil-Mclain company should be looking at the boiler. I called AHS and spent 1/2 hour on the phone asking if they could just hire the person who already did the diagnostics... but they said they do not operate that way and that a service company called Rubber Duck would call me within 24 hours to make an appointment.
Meantime my father has no heat or hot water since Wednesday!! I looked up Rubbed Duck on a consumer rating site and was floored by the negative reviews on the company and can't believe that AHS would continue to use this service person with those kind of reviews online. Perhaps they are not aware or perhaps they just don't care. Rubber Duck has yet to call me to schedule... it's well over 24 hours. I am now working with the original HVAC person I called as I know I will get the job done properly and quickly. We are looking into cancelling our contract if they do not cover the costs we will incur.
I do understand your frustration with the delay in service you've encountered with your AHS contract and I would be glad to further assist you. Please send me your contract number at (mdixon@ahslink.com). I am having trouble locating your account.
Thank you,

I have had American Home Shield warranty service for homes for going on 4 years and in general have experienced moderate satisfaction but recently had to replace the entire HVAC system due to leaks, high costs of replacing Freon and the inevitable extinction of R22 coolant. Its use is not allowed after 2019. Due to expenses involving adding additional R22, I decided it made sense to purchase a new system. I then called Home Shield to revise my policy but was told I could not make changes until September when the policy renews. I was told I could take off the HVAC system coverage but the cost only dropped around 6/month, a total discount of 72 a year. Not acceptable.
I was transferred to 5 people and departments, placed on hold for 19 minutes by one person who never picked up and eventually I did cancel the policy but was charged a months fees to cancel. What a scam. I am so disappointed and hope anyone out there reconsiders purchasing a home warranty thru American Home Shield. If I was making a purchase they would jump through hoops ensuring satisfaction but offered little opportunity for satisfaction with canceling the policy. Rest assured I will not be purchasing another warranty thru them when the HVAC manufacturer warranty expires.
After reading your review I do understand that you have canceled your contract due to several costs that AHS charges. I would like to speak with you and follow up with te situation at hand.

American Home Shield has been nice every time and as far as them taking care of what they needed to take care of, everything was fine. But in my opinion, they need to work on their contractors a little bit better. The first problem we had was with our tankless water heater and East Texas Plumbing came out and did the cleaning but didn't complete it. So we had intermittent hot water for almost three months. Then we had All Pro Plumbing and they told us it was just taking longer for the water heater to work, but the heater is less than a hundred feet from our shower in the master bath so it shouldn’t take that long. We got to a point where it was 15 minutes for us to get hot water.
Finally, we had a competent plumber come out and finish the job. It was Artesian Plumbing and they were very nice. And they're not even contracted with AHS, but they agreed to come out. They also gave us their cards and said, “If you have any problems, call your contract people and we’ll come out on their behalf.” The other two companies did not do what they were supposed to do and I called American Home Shield and gave both of them bad reviews.
We also had another instance with All Pro Plumbing where it took a month to get our kitchen faucet fixed. We had water leaking underneath the sink for at least three weeks. It was almost four weeks before we got it fixed. The seal in one of the lines underneath there had gotten loose so at first, they came out and tried to replace the seal. And then they came back out with a part and said it wasn't going to work. They needed to order the whole thing and that's when they came back with over $600 total charge for everything. The service call fee was $75 and AHS was going to pay them $250 and then they wanted us to pay them an additional $285 when they come out, which was ridiculous. So we decided to opt out of that and get the $250 check from AHS. We bought the faucet part for $80 and then had a certified plumber come out for $130 and install it.
If we're paying to have a warranty, we shouldn't have to have four people come out in order to get something fixed, be charged over $600 to replace a faucet part and wait for a month to get it fixed, or have to deal with the intermittent tankless water heater for two months when it should’ve been fixed right the first time we called to have somebody out. Every time somebody comes out for the second or third time, they’re charging a service call fee to AHS, and they're not taking care of the problem. Whereas if AHS found somebody competent that would come out and do one visit and maybe do a follow-up, too, when it’s completed, that wouldn't be a big issue. But to have incompetent people coming out means they're just paying for incompetence.

We bought our house, which is older but does have a pool, in December of 2016. At the time of closing, we purchased AHS, which has worked 'okay' as we have had to utilize the service already. However, on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, the handle to our pool filtration system broke. I understand that no service can be guaranteed during the weekend or holiday weekend. But, I did expect some service from AHS. Instead, while there is a record of me purchasing the additional pool coverage, they did not 'submit payment.' So, in their records, I do not have the additional pool contract.
The gentleman on the phone was very nice and professional but he had no power or authority to actually help me. (He was placed on hold by his own Customer Care or escalation team for 15 or 20 minutes) The only resolution he could offer was for me to prove that I had paid for the contract, regardless of the fact that AHS already had a record of the contract. I asked to speak to a manager but there was no one available. He did put a request for a manager to contact me within two business days, which put that after a long holiday weekend and no service to my pool. The next Wednesday manager did call but I could not get to the phone. I have called every business day since then and I have not been able to reach anyone.
I would like to follow up with you on Monday to help resolve the matter at hand.
Thank you,

I filed a claim on the 21st of May 2017 to have my air conditioning system repaired. On their website, it says completed on the 23rd. I’m very disappointed with the customer service performance of American Home Shield. My air conditioning system finally got repaired yesterday June 5th after over two weeks. It should not have taken this long. I’m sure there were many local repair companies that could have come out and done the repair. But because American Home Shield goes with the lowest bidder and does not care about customer care the customer must suffer.
I clearly informed the representative when I filed my claim that my wife had just gotten at the hospital and I needed my air conditioner repaired immediately. That did not matter to American Home Shield. They don’t deal with local repair companies that could do the repair in a shorter period of time. The repair guy that came told me that he came all the way from Statesboro. I live in Savannah Georgia and I know there are numerous AC repair companies available in my local area.
I have spoken to numerous other customers of American Home Shield and they all have the same complaint. American Home Shield only cares about bottom line profits and does not care about the customer. It is sad that you pay for service and every time that you need to use it is a very upsetting experience. I have friends that have used American Home Shield and they all have the same complaint. And they have dropped American Home Shield Home Warranty service or they are in the process of doing so.
After reading your review I see that your AC unit was repaired but the delay in service was unacceptable. I will be contacting you on Monday to follow up with you.

The timing device on my dishwasher wasn't going through the stages properly so I submitted a claim to American Home Shield and it couldn't have been easier. The contractor came and I wasn't home that morning but my husband was and he said they were great. However, it took a couple of weeks because we didn't make a decision on which unit to get since the dishwasher was replaced and not repaired.
I got an email with about 50 dishwashers on it to choose from. And of course, I couldn't see them. I didn't know how to buy a dishwasher without looking at one. I wrote down a bunch of model numbers and went to Home Depot to look at the particular units and that was how we ended up picking the one that we picked. They didn’t actually have it there on the floor, but the salesman was really nice and he got it up online for us and we didn’t need anything special in our specifications, so that worked out fine. But it was certainly within a reasonable time period. We had also filed other claims in the past and they've all been positive. AHS is professional and friendly.

I've been with American Home Shield for about 12 years with two houses. They're very reputable and dependable. They are always easy to deal with. It's also very easy to file a service request. It has always been online but I have talked to a live person about five times. Then the authorized service people called me. It's very rare that I have to deal with American Home Shield's reps but when I do, they've been very helpful and courteous.
Last week, I submitted a claim. A latch on my built-in microwave broke then one of their technicians came out. He was a great guy. The latch was deemed unrepairable so American Home Shield offered us three options. The first one was to replace with a similar one, another was to purchase an upgrade and then we would pay them the difference, or we would buy our own and then send them the receipt and then we would be reimbursed up to $498. We needed it in stainless steel and they said that wasn't an issue and made us an offer. They came back the next day saying that it was not available. I sent them an email today saying I'll just go buy and install it and I'll just send them the receipt later on so they can reimburse me for the microwave. The only bad thing is that the microwave gets in Thursday and I do a lot of cooking with the microwave. But other than that, we're good to go.
The other experiences that I had have been regarding my pool pump and things of that nature and they've been very helpful and very pro-active with the contractors. There was one contractor though that came a couple of years ago that I complained about and I never saw them again. And another issue that I have with their techs is, because it's down here in Texas, they just can't get to it fast enough to fix it. So we've gone about four days without seeing a tech but that's the nature of everybody having a pool down here so it's not their fault. I don't mind paying the money every month for the peace of mind if they're going to come and take care of it. But, I rarely had to have them come back out to fix what they've already fixed. It's kept the kids in the pool as opposed to being running out on the street so that's always good.
Hi, Jason. Being a Southerner myself, I know all too well how important that swimming pool can be!! Glad that we get it right when we make it out and thank you for your patience. Glad your microwave is being delivered soon. Nothing like that convenience. Have a great Summer!

My most recent claim with American Home Shield is due to a problem in my air conditioning. The process of submitting a claim is very easy and reliable, as it can be done online. The turnaround time from when I called and when the tech came out was reasonable. The contractor that has been sent to fix my unit walked me through the process of what they were doing, and even let me look inside the unit and explained to me what was going on.
I would like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with positive feedback on your experience with your most recent service requests.

I have a well and my pump stopped working. A company came over and changed a bunch of things and I paid them a lot of money. In the end, they left and I still had no water. So I called American Home Shield and told them that the guys just took the money and I still didn’t have water. They were surprised. So they sent another company and the gentleman said that the first company didn’t do anything. He said that the only thing that the first company should have done was to change the pump in the ground, but they changed everything that they were not supposed to change. They also charged me for a small water pressure tank for $800. I didn’t have any knowledge until the other guy came and told me that we needed to change the tank as it's just for a little apartment. I told them I paid $800 for it and he told me that the tank was just $50.
The first company took advantage because people didn’t know about it. They also told American Home Shield that they changed the underground pump which wasn't true and they charged American Home Shield for it. I had people coming over and taking pictures. The underground pump was about 300 feet underground. They cannot do that with bare hands. They need a machine and they never even brought anything. They also indicated that they changed things that they never did. They wrote that they put it like a brand-new cap but when we took the cap out, everything was old inside.
It was terrible. The second company was more upset than I was. They couldn't believe what the first company did. And it looked like American Home Shield never took the second company very seriously. Even though they came and told American Home Shield how bad the job was and the first company didn’t change the underground pump, American Home Shield continued not wanting to pay for another pump. It very easy to prove that the underground pump was was not changed because one would need a big hole to go inside. And the ground was not even touched. So I didn’t understand American Home Shield took a month and a half almost to fix the problem. They dragged the problem so I didn’t have water for a month and a half. With the kids in school, it was a nightmare.
When I called American Home Shield, I had a girl who was always trying to take care of the problem and did an amazing job. But the supervisors were cutting her off and constantly saying that they're not going to pay. And she continued to say that it's not fair because the company that they paid didn’t do the job. She defended me in so many ways.
Finally, I got someone to fix the pump but American Home Shield didn’t pay for everything. My warranty was not to pay for everything though. It was just to pay the pump so I needed to pay the rest of the things. I paid $2000 and it took a month or so for me to get the $1,300 check. But at least it was a help. And the gentleman was so nice to me and changed my pressure tank for free. He felt so bad about what I was going on. He told me what he put in was not brand-new but it’s very good and will give me pressure. He was amazing and took care of us. And he even wanted to wait to get the money. I divided the billing three times because I didn’t have the money as I already gave it to the other company. And I'm wondering why American Home Shield doesn’t have this gentleman in their list.
Now I’m concerned of even calling American Home Shield to ask for anything here at home. I’m concerned for when something big comes along, we’ll have the same experience. So my husband told me that every time American Home Shield would give the name of the company, we'll investigate the company before we allow them to come to our home.
I have American Home Shield for many years now since I bought the house. I never had an issue with them until this company came to my home. And what I didn’t understand was why were they still using that company. If one would put the name of the company online, they would see so many people saying so many bad things. They wouldn't see anybody happy. American Home Shield should investigate the company they send to their own customers because they are the ones who are looking bad. I also had another experience when the plumber they sent came a little drunk. American Home Shield is a great company but they don’t have a lot of communication between them and that’s what worries me.

I don’t have any trouble with American Home Shield directly. I would recommend them. My issues are with who they use to contract out. My first call to them was regarding a plumbing issue. And I had a contractor come out from the local area. They were fabulous. I actually called them and have them do repairs outside of my home warranty because whoever they send was kind, thorough and took care of all the needs that I needed to without having an issue. I just purchased a new home and the microwave barely works. It was one of the items covered under the warranty that the seller transferred over to us. The repair was found to be unreasonable because of the age of the unit. So they decided to replace it.
The first company that came out and brought the microwave was also told to install it. There was two gentlemen, one was very kind and funny, the other one was very rude. When they were installing it, it was being done incorrectly. I had to ask the gentlemen a few questions and he assured me it was being done correctly. Then when they left I realize that the exhaust system on the microwave was blowing into my attic, not attached to the vent.
So I called American Home Shield back and I ask for them to kindly send somebody else out because I have tried already to recover with the first people that were at the house who apparently didn't believe a word I was saying and I didn't want them back. American Home Shield sent Ace Appliance out and instead of taking another half day off of work because everybody comes during the day, I had my son who is a young adult meet them at the house, all he did was stood there the entire time and go, "I don't know why I'm here, I thought I was looking at a broken microwave. This looks new and there's nothing wrong with it."
I called and talked to a representative from American Home Shield. I was on a recorded line twice, had to slowly explain my issue and I left this gentleman a handwritten note on top of the stove right by the microwave explaining why he was going to do this today in case he did not get the proper information from the company because that happens all the time. He was rude and didn't even go up into the attic to see the way it was vented. He adjusted a screw and it's installed crooked and left.
I called Ace Appliance back directly, ask them to send another representative out, I never got a phone call back. Then my husband called American Home Shield to take care of it through them. Nobody has called us back from Ace Appliance and I still have a crooked microwave in that space and it's still blowing into my attic.

It's the same one we had before and it’s great. The experience has been very satisfactory.

I recently had a claim with American Home Shield for my air conditioning unit. The thermostat wasn’t controlling the unit correctly. When the gentleman had first come out, he turned the thermostat on and turned it off and went downstairs to check if it was doing what it was supposed to but he really didn’t stick around to see that if you set the temperature for 74, it would just keep running even though it got to 74. Unfortunately, they made the decision that there was nothing wrong and so they left, and then I had to call Home Shield and tell them we still have a problem. So then they said they'd come back out and it would be a head technician situation. The head guy that sat in the car the first time came in and he made the determination that it was the thermostat that was wrong and they stayed there long enough to see that it operated the way it should have once they replaced it. The AC has been doing great since the repair.
I do my claims online not because I don’t like talking to Home Shield but it seems more convenient just to plug it in if I have a problem and then it seems to be handled quickly where someone will give me a call and it will start the claim rolling. I called at one time to find out information about my policy on what would be covered in a claim and one girl acted like she could not answer that question. She kept me on this very long hold. And then somebody picked up finally and answered the question immediately and knew exactly what I wanted and she couldn’t believe that someone did that to me.
I don’t look at that as a bad light on Home Shield. Sometimes some people have bad days and some might not be trained to the best and don’t know everything that everyone else might know, or they might not be as seasoned because they haven't been there as long. And they document very well. It seems like that kind of stuff is in the system and everything gets kind of written in. Overall, American Home Shield’s been a savior to me, and I'd recommend them to everyone. My niece just bought a house and I told her she gotta get American Home Shield. It's a great thing to have. It's an insurance for what your investment is.
Ms. Chatmon, we appreciate the time you've taken out of your day to provide such thorough feedback on your AHS service experience and the convenience of the website. Also, thank you for recommending American Home Shield to family and friends.

My garbage disposal stopped working. I made sure that it wasn't the electric and all the breakers were good, and then I gave American Home Shield a call. I got someone right away and they set up an appointment for me with the plumber. We had a nice little banter going on because I had my daughter's graduation, but after a week, we had everything organized for an appointment and they came out. They called and asked if they could come in early, and they arrived half an hour early. I work 10 minutes away from the house, and we moved into the driveway at the same time. They were very nice, clean, and professional. It was probably one of the best service repair experiences I've had with American Home Shield.
They let me know what was going on and gave me some helpful hints going into the future, like how to prevent things from happening, because it looks like my daughter put something down in the garbage disposal that she shouldn't have, which jammed it off. And then they gave me a bar to put in there so that nothing foreign that shouldn't be in there could get in. They also gave me some cleaning tips like to put ice in there, things that I never knew to maintain the disposal. It's been performing perfectly and quieter when I run it. Now, I can use my sink and not worry about nastiness coming back up.
My warranty with American Home Shield is probably one of the best purchases that I've made. When I bought the house, it came with a year free and I kept it. I like the monthly payments on it and I use it. It takes away all the hassle of trying to find a reliable service person to come in and fix things. At the time, I was a single mom and I've been using a screwdriver, so my skill set for fixing things wasn't so good, and American Home helped a lot. I used it a few times for my dryer and washer, and they actually replaced the hot water tank once, where I paid the fee of $75 and got a brand new hot water tank. It's definitely money well spent.

We've used American Home Shield over the years and felt like they're the best. It's been a positive experience all the way and every time we needed assistance, they're there to help. Our interactions with the contractors have been efficient too. When we needed help for the fridge and the AC unit, they made calls and the claims were all handled beautifully without us having to rankle too much.
Hello, Wanda. I am so glad that you had little to no issues in getting your service requests completed. Thank you for the positive feedback. Enjoy your day!

On May 21, 2017 my AC unit quit operating and there was ice on the line from the outside unit into the garage. Also water in the drip pan at the bottom of the unit. I went online to American Home Shield (aka AHS, my home warranty company) and requested service, and a contractor was assigned. I didn't hear back from them by the next day, so called and left a message for them. By the afternoon, I still hadn't heard, so I called AHS and they left a message and emailed them. At the end of the day, we still hadn't heard, so I called the contractor again, only to find their voicemail full and not accepting messages.
I called back to AHS and they assigned another contractor, All Right Mechanical (ARM) who contacted me the following day on the 23rd. They scheduled an appointment and the company owner and a jr. tech came to the house on time. They put a gauge on the line and said I was low on refrigerant and I probably have a leak in the Evap Coil. The owner then tells me that my warranty company won't pay for all the work that needs done because it is not covered and that my out-of-pocket expenses are likely to be more than $3000. Or, he can sell me a system for $10K and spread my payments over 20 years to have a brand new system rather than repairing my 27 year old current system. I believed that he was trying to scam myself as well as the warranty company, so I called AHS and told them as much. They said they couldn't do anything because they didn't have their report yet.
The following day AHS received the report from ARM and the next day, they authorized them to do a leak test. When AHS told me this, I again complained about ARM and stated that they were ripping both of us off. AHS advised me that if I wanted to select my own vendor, I could request cash in lieu of service for the leak test. They would send it to authorizations and let me know how much cash would be available to me, but unfortunately the Authorizations dept. was running behind and it would be 2-3 days.
On the third day when I still hadn't heard from them, I called only to be told that the rep had misinformed me, and that they couldn't offer me cash in lieu for a leak test. It can only be offered for a diagnosed covered equipment failure, and that I had no option other than use ARM for that Leak Test. After 3 more days passed, a tech finally came to the house. He looked at the condenser and the evap coil and stated both were leaking and needed to be replaced. He didn't inject dye or nitrogen into the system, but said he would write it up in 15 minutes and send it in.
The next day, when I hadn't heard anything by the end of the day, I contacted AHS who said they still didn't have the report. I then contact ARM who said they would submit report that day. The next day I again contacted AHS, and they had the report, but it was in authorizations and they were behind. 2 days later, they contacted me and the woman said "I have never seen a report with this many non-covered items." The total out of pocket was $4030! So I asked what my cash in lieu amount would be and they said it would have to go back to authorizations to determine that.
3 days later, today June 5th, authorizations offers me $1,288.23 for a new condenser and evap coil and the labor to install both components! This is less than the cost to purchase the items, much less have them installed. So I again complained that this company was ripping us off and asked for a second opinion. She had the nerve to tell me that I was past the 7 day window to request that (all their fault), and my only options were to take their offer, or have their contractor do the repair. Incidentally, an independent third company giving me a "friend of a friend" pricing, diagnosed that an entire new system was needed and priced it at $6,800... A far cry from $1,288.23 I was offered.
I have been an AHS customer for 15 years or so. I have had small issues (washer, dishwasher, microwave, etc.) that were all handled with no issues during that time, however this was not and if you as a company, can not bring the system back to full operation without the customer having to spend over 3 times what you're willing to pay, then maybe you shouldn't say you are even covering the item! It may be "legal" by the terms of the contract, but it most assuredly is NOT ETHICAL! This is horrible business and as soon as I reach final resolution on this issue, you will have one less customer!

The A/C on my house needs repair. AHS sent a contractor. The coil needs to be replaced as well as a drain pan. The coil would be covered but not the drain pan. Fine, I understand some things are not covered. But this contractor wants over $4000 to do several upgrades. I asked for a second opinion and AHS sent another contractor. The second contractor agrees with what needs to be repaired but said all the extra work is not necessary for the repair.
Here's the problem. AHS will not assign the work to the second contractor which would mean over $4000 out of pocket cost for me. I obtained a quote for the repair, which would only be about half of the $4000 out of pocket for me, and that is without one cent from AHS. I have tried to escalate this in AHS, twice. They tell me someone will call. They have not called yet and it has been over 4 days. So no A/C for over two weeks in the hot humid deep South. I have been a very long term customer of AHS and until now have had good experiences with the company.

We requested the refrigerator repairing service on 10/17/16 and 3/5/17 for the same problem for one of our rental house located in Newark, CA. Both technicians couldn't fix the leaking. We requested for a second opinion and AHS gave UKH Enterprises to us on 4/19/17. In one month, the technician put some tapes as a fix (please see the attachment), but it's still leaking. We contacted AHS many many times and our tenant has lived without a refrigerator over 6 months. We asked for a replacement for a non-repairable item after three repairing companies can't fix it, but AHS only offered us a repairing option ($121) after we talked to the supervisor.
We don't understand why AHS ignored the fact of non-repairable. We have 4 houses with AHS in the past several years. We never requested the replacement before. We put lots of time and efforts to call AHS for the case. We are really dissatisfied with AHS the way to deal with this. We purchased a new one for our tenant yesterday to not lose our tenant. We are looking for a reimbursement from AHS to settle down the claim.
Hi Liqun. I apologize for the inconvenience that we have caused. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks.

On 5/30/17 I had my air conditioning worked on by Advance Appliance. The repair techs said that they could only add Freon and leak sealant on the first call and would have to see if it holds. On 6/2/17, the ac stopped working again. I contacted AHS and receive another repair number. However the customer service between AHS and the repair company is terrible. The repair company stated that they were booked for Friday but would try to fit me in. THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN!
I call the repair company on Monday 6/5. I was told that I would be a work in again today. I called back at 12 noon to check on a repair within my 48 hr. contact with AHS. The Ed, at the repair company said ,"we have you scheduled for any time today or tomorrow. You can contact another company if you want." I contacted AHS to notify them of Ed's statement. I was basically told that if I changed company then it would increase my service time. So what is the use of having a 48 hour response time if no one follows it? Also, how does AHS choose the companies that they contact with? Because if Advance Appliance is an indication of the customer service or professionalism that we can expect then save your money in a savings account instead of paying AHS.
UPDATED ON 06/27/2017: I wrote an initial review of American Home Shield on 6/2/17. The complaint was two fold: 1. The non-empathetic customer service agents from AHS. No matter how many times you call them pertaining to the same issue; they never suggest a supervisor getting involved. It appears that this is just standard operational procedure to perpetual repair issues of the clients. This is my 3rd service call for my air conditioning unit.
2. The 2nd issue is the servicing company. Advance Appliance company has been to my home twice on 5/24 and On 5/24 they added Freon and sealant and on 5/30 they blow air through my AC line. Both of which seemed to be temporary attempts or patch work at best. On 6/26 my air went back off. On 6/27 at 9:57 am I contacted Steven, customer service agent for AHS. After I explained the history behind my attempts to have my air conditioner, which is an item covered under my AHS contract, the best he could say was, "So, you need a service call?"
Wow, should I have expected more from an agent representing an agency that I am paying for service? Well, he gave me a service reference number and name to another ac company, Controlled Climate. I can only hope that they will respond to my issue within the contractual 48 hours and all the more important when they respond will my ac finally get REPAIRED OR REPLACED. I'm too hot to be happy.
Hi James. I certainly hate that you have an ongoing a/c issue. A social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible in an effort to resolve your issue. Thanks.

Something was leaking under our kitchen sink. I called American Home Shield and the rep was very knowledgeable, friendly and knew his responsibility too. Then the tech who came out kept the appointment time very well and I'm so satisfied with that. He was also professional and after checking the problem, he said he needed some part to fix it.
I used to use another company so I know that in that case, they order a part and wait for several weeks then they come again to fix it. The other company took about a month with that so in that one month I couldn't use my kitchen. However, the kitchen sink and water leakage was a very urgent thing so I didn't want to wait a long time. The guy sent by AHS told me he could go to Home Depot, buy some part and fix it within 30 minutes. I was very surprised but that was the best thing. It's amazing and I'm very thankful for him. I have another property and I'm thinking of changing it to American Home Shield.

The last time I had serviced through this other company, it was just a headache. I had to make an appointment with them and it took a week before they came here. Then, they had to turn around and order the parts. With this guy American Home Shield sent out, it was much better. I love him. I submitted a claim through the automated system, then he came out two days after and he was really good and knowledgeable. He went through everything that he had to do. The washing machine wasn't spinning but then he said there was something else that's wrong with it and everything got resolved. I’m hoping my washing machine and dryer don’t break down again, but I hope I'd get him if they do because he was really good. I know that when I have problems with my washing machine and appliances, I can rely on AHS to get it fixed in a timely manner so I love it.

We’re somewhat happy with the overall performance of American Home Shield. Their claims process was easy and very convenient. I’m not too hip with the internet process but the phone process is very quick and simple. Our oven wasn’t heating up fast enough. It would take 45 minutes to get it up to 350 degrees. Then we were also having problems with the ice maker and we’ve called in twice now. While we were making the claim, they were very professional and polite. They seemed genuinely interested in getting everything done that we needed to be done.
I’m not fully happy because it took forever to get the ice maker fixed the first time. The second time they came out to fix the same problem, I had to pay another $75 to get it fixed and they didn’t fix the whole operation. The drawer that goes in the refrigerator was broken and the guy has never done anything and he knew that it was broken. I’m dissatisfied with their performance as far as work is concerned. He just put the drawer back in knowing that it was broken and he said, “That should work” and he pulled the drawer out the next time and it fell out all over the floor. He could care less as long as he got his money. Other than that, they’re a great operation and very helpful.

I signed up for a policy with American Home Shield (AHS) a few months ago. Last week I filed my first claim after the knob on my washer broke off. I filed my claim online and was contacted by a "repair" man shortly after. This is where things went downhill quickly. AHS does not screen the people they send to your house which is another reason why I'm reporting them to the Better Business Bureau. They sent Victor from Ukon Appliance Repair. I had to take a vacation day because he wouldn't come out to my neighborhood after 4:00 PM and he didn't work weekends. Really, now!? He came to my house and spent 4 minutes to confirm it was broken. I asked him why he couldn't fix it now. He said he had to get back with a AHS to file a report.
I asked him if I was going to have to take another vacation day to have it fixed and he said it's not his problem. Mind you that I had to pay 100.00 service call to AHS. I received a call from AHS to inform me that my claim was being denied because Victor said it was maliciously broken. I've had this washer and dryer for six years. I'm not quite sure why I would maliciously break my own knob to spend another hundred dollar service call. I looked up his company on Yelp and the reviews are all horrible not just about the company but also about AHS. I canceled my policy immediately. I called another repairman and he came out on Saturday and the cost is $60. Home Warranty companies are all a bad idea but I believe AHS is the worst. You've been warned.
I do understand your frustration with AHS and the claim filed on your washer knob. I would like to speak with you soon.

AHS REFUSED to escalate my work order because the temperature in Chicago didn't reach 101 degrees. I am now on day 2 of no AC and I have 3 dogs and a wife with health issues. AHS does not care. They have ZERO compassion and do not have HVAC companies that work weekends. What am I paying for?!? This week the temps are supposed to reach over 80 degrees each day and still AHS will not escalate. If the temps reach 101 in Chicago, people are dropping dead!!! This is being shared all over the web and has been shared with the local media.
Updated on 06/13/2017: On June 2nd, my furnace stopped working. I opened a ticket with AHS and they would not work the ticket until Monday as it wasn't an "emergency". Emergency in Chicago means the temperature outside has to meet or exceed 101. I escalated to Executive Relations after customer service kept telling me "No, No, No" to escalate. I had to divulge my wife's medical issues in order to escalate the ticket. The tech that came onsite wasn't able to fix the problem and the other HVAC complained "we're not comfortable" working on my furnace. AHS finally agreed to replace my furnace which was supposed to be replaced today... AHS dropped the ball and didn't verify that the parts were in the warehouse to be picked up and sent the HVAC tech on a wild goose chase to get the furnace. After sitting at the supply warehouse for over an hour, the HVAC owner told his crew to move on that it was taking too long.
I now have to wait until FRIDAY to get my furnace installed and all AHS offered was $150 for a window unit. I HAVE CASEMENT WINDOWS SO A WINDOW UNIT WONT WORK!!!!! This is unfair business practices and illegal for AHS to make me wait until Friday to get my service completed. I now need to contact my attorney to sue for illegal business practices. They DON'T care about their customers. All they care about is collecting their money and holding their customer hostage. Susa, from Executive Relations was great, but I feel that more could and should have been done to get this completed today AS SCHEDULED!
I would like to speak with you in order to help get your AC unit repaired as soon as possible.

I have a warranty on the pool and the motor. I called American Home Shield and told them that my motor was out. They said, "Go ahead. We’re gonna have a guy call you. He’d call you first thing tomorrow. And if you have a problem, he doesn’t or something then you just give us a call back but we don’t foresee a problem with this company." The company was called Aquanauts and the next afternoon, the tech called. He said, “Do you mind if I come up and look at everything?”
He came out and looked at it. He turned the motor on to make sure it’s what it was. I said, “How long it’d take you to get one?” He said, “I’ll order one this afternoon and I probably hit it on a Friday so if have it Monday, only thing, if they’re gonna have it Friday, but I won’t be able to put it in 'till Monday or Tuesday and I’ll let you know which day it will be.” He came out here and did it. He laid me a bill here and I wrote him a check for a $100. American Home Shield was reliable because if I have problems, I call them. There’s Johnny on the spot who said, “We’ll take care of it now.” And he did look it up right there. Whenever I said pool, they went straight to the pool and got it.

We’ve had no issues on the submission of most claims with American Home Shield. My only concern with them as a warranty company is sometimes it takes too many times for the vendor to come out and replace the unit. I know it’s a break-fix kind of deal. They come out first time, okay and break-fix on the second time. But the third time they come out, it should be if they gotta replace the unit, replace it. It shouldn’t take so many visits to come to the conclusion. It makes it hard on the customer.
We had an issue with a vendor that came out and did some bad work. They came out several times before they wound up replacing something. But AHS is prompt and it's great service. They have somebody there and they're Johnny-on-the-spot. They're a good company, quick and thorough with a good list of vendors. If it’s a very in-depth repair, just be prepared for more than one call if it’s not fixed correctly. That’s not the fault of American Home Shield but the vendor they send out because only so much is authorized each time.
Hi, Lloyd. Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your service experiences. Hopefully on any future service request, you will not have to go through the hassle op having to have the tech back out on a recall. Have an amazing day.

We moved in the spring of '16 and in early February, we noticed that the water wasn’t staying hot and then one morning we woke up and the heat wasn’t working at all. We had to have our hot water tank worked on over the winter. I told American Home Shield what the issue was. They gave me the claim number and told me the company that was going to come out. Originally, they were gonna send a different company but there was a particular element with that one and they didn’t work with it. So, they had to send a different company. It was fine and a good interaction. However, it so happened that this was on a Sunday and I thought they were gonna be able to send somebody out, but we had to wait until Monday.
My husband was home and explained to me that the contractors took out a small heating element, cleaned it with some sandpaper, and put it back in. They were there for less than 10 minutes and the claim was processed and completed in about 24 hours. It was successful. People got back to me right away. They were professional and they came out when they were supposed. Everything went well and we’re satisfied.
There was an issue with us more from a one-year to a two-year and that needed to be cancelled. Once we got that straightened out, the claim process took about two hours in total, including the waiting time before I got somebody on the phone. I thought we were gonna have to drop them, but it got worked out so we were able to retain our contract. We’ve been in the house about a year so this is our first winter and the first time that we’ve been using the heating, but so far, so good. We didn’t have a problem the rest of the winter. Overall, AHS was good and I would recommend them. I'm pleased with the service that we have and it’s scheduled to be renewed for another year on the 15th of the month.

I usually have the same problem with one of my ACs. This little silver capacitor goes out. That happened again two Sundays ago and it was not cooling. I submitted the claim very easily. I did it online, a two, three-minute process. Boom, boom, set it up and it said a certain person will be calling me within 24 hours to set up an appointment. By Tuesday, the problem has been resolved. The only thing I didn’t like was that my old capacitor had a clamp on it and the technician put a bigger one on the AC, but there was no clamps so he left it in the box and he said that was okay.
Before that, my water heater was leaking and I called American Home Shield to get an appointment. The rep was very knowledgeable but that process actually took two weeks to be completed. The other part I didn’t like about that was I had a $925 out-of-pocket expense because my house was so old and my water heater was original. It had to be upgraded and a floodstop had to be put in. By the time they finished it, the modification to the pipes and all came out to be $925 out-of-pocket. That was not good. The warranty only covered certain things and the rest was left up to me. I could’ve asked for them to give me the check for the water heater and the labor, and then I could have found someone else to see if they could have done the work cheaper. But then that would have taken another seven days, so I had no choice while I’m leaking in the garage. I had to get it fixed right then.
The contractor wasn’t too bad. They were pretty professional. They explained to me what they had to do and the price quoted. They told me I had to pay $925 before they started work. Then they came in, took the old one out and did the modifications. However, they gave me a bigger tank. The pressure inside of the kitchen is not what it used to be. I don’t know if that’s coming from the city or have any direct correlation with the water heater. But it seems to be working okay and heats up fine. I just had to set the temperature all the way up on the new heater because for some reason it takes a little while for it to heat up and wouldn’t stay heated for a long period of time. Other than that, it seems to be working okay.
The only thing I didn’t like is for the City of Killeen, I had to get an inspector to come and inspect it. That was entailing the contractor to pull the permit. But when he pulled the permit, he did it around 3 o’clock the day he installed it and he said the inspector was gonna come out. So, I was waiting around for the inspector, who never showed. I thought they were gonna call and say they're coming the next day at a certain time but when I came home the next day, there was a sticker that said they came, I wasn't there and that I needed to pass something.
That was a Friday and I had to go down to the city to get the inspectors to come out the following Monday. They said that if the permit was pulled at 9, they would come out the same day. But if it was after 3, the contractors were supposed to leave my contact information so the inspectors can set it up. But none of that was explained to me. So, I had to go track them down to come out and inspect my house.
For the most part they have been very helpful and reliable. The only issues I have with them is local versus out-of-town repairmen. I live in Killeen but the people that they usually send live in Waco. That’s an hour away from where I live and I was wondering why is it that they don’t look at our zip code and figure that people in Killeen may be able to get a request in faster and they’d be able to come out. I could understand if Killeen is booked and we go to Waco and get the next best person. Or give us the opportunity if the person out of Waco can’t come in till two or three days, and I have an AC problem and it’s hot, why can't I switch to see if somebody in Killeen could come out earlier or find me somebody that can do it. That’s the only thing I don’t like about that because they say this is policy and they can’t change it. We go with who they pick.
At one time, I had a garage problem and I had to tell them not to send somebody from Waco. Their garage company is right in my neighborhood. So, I told them to get me a local garage company if I ever have a garage problem. Sometimes I make those requests. Other than that, I haven't had that many issues with them and I'm very pleased with the warranty. I’ve also had some good experiences where people will come out on time and get my stuff working. I wouldn’t have to wait too long.
I am glad to hear how helpful and reliable AHS has been for you. I enjoyed reading your feedback about your AC nad water heater repair. Thank you for sharing this good news with us.

He explained everything that he did and it was real nice. Our AC's been working very good since the repair. We just have an issue with AHS sometimes, so it's not a big deal.

I like to call American Home Shield when submitting a claim but I have also done it online. They always get back to me within 24 business hours. My most recent claim was two months ago and it was for a dryer that I wasn't able to use for a couple of days. But it was my fault because I had a lot going on right at that time and I couldn't schedule right away. I liked the contractors that AHS sent. They were very helpful and friendly and they did the job right the first time. They reconnected a hose and put in a new reset switch.
I like that AHS stops to ask me quickly all through text and also sends some email telling me who the contractor is going to be. Today, I’ve been told the contractor is coming out to fix my air conditioner. The contractor texted me and asked what the problem is so that they can be prepared for it when they come. And they usually accommodate me in the late afternoon.
Thank you for the good feedback! We appreciate the positive feedback about your experience with AHS.

I was losing water through the toilet tank so I needed a plumber to check and see what they could do. My interaction with American Home Shield's reps was positive. Their plumber came in and I explained the situation to them. He looked and then he decided to replace something. When we flush the toilet now, the water that comes back in lowers the level of the water because, with my previous one, the water keeps running and as a result, it leaks. The plumber was good. Overall, my experience was positive because if I had tried to call the plumber by myself, it probably will cost me a lot of money. And so they came and only charged $75 and they fixed three toilets for me, all for the same price, and I was very happy with that.
I am glad to hear about your experience with American Home Shield. Also, it is good to hear we were able to repair all three of your toilets efficiently.

My daughter's bedroom wasn't cooling so we called American Home Shield, asked the guy to come out, take a look at it and find out why. He charged me $75 to say the HVAC system was poorly engineered and there was nothing he could do. It was a waste of time. He was in the house for 20 minutes. He said we should add a booster to the HVAC system but that wouldn’t be covered by American Home Shield. He also said the system was too small for the size of the house. I said the run was too long as far as it was going. The air that was coming out of the unit was sufficient as far as what he could tell and took $75 and said, "See you later. If you got a problem within 60 days, call me back."
Also, we had a guy come out to work on our kitchen faucet and he just tightened it up. But it needed to be replaced because it wasn't flowing what we thought should be a sufficient amount of water pushing through it. I did the repair myself and to this day, I have half the water pressure that should be coming out. It takes about a minute and 33 seconds to a minute and 37 seconds to run the water through my kitchen sink. I'm not happy.
Lastly, American Home Shield dropped the ball on my refrigerator. I was told there was nothing that they could do. It took them four months to not fix my refrigerator and finally Whirlpool stepped up and they said because it's covered under the sealed unit, my refrigerator was fixed via Whirlpool as opposed to American Home Shield. I'm paying $75 a month for American Home Shield warranty services on my home, and so far they haven't fixed everything that they were supposed to. We had everything fixed by going through the manufacturers. We're looking at cancelling American Home Shield and going with another service.

The AHS tape recorded message when you call them states, “The homeowner needing service and the servicing company AGREE upon a time that is convenient to both to set up the repair appointment.” In reality, the way it works, whatever is convenient for the servicing company is the time slot the homeowner is FORCED to accept, or you won't get service to repair your homes' problem. I wished I would have chosen another warranty company that considers the needs of the paying customer, and NOT PURCHASED with AMERICAN.

I have used the service 2 times and it has been a nightmare to get someone on the phone (45 min. average) to later find out that your plan (whatever you decided) had some many little letters that actually don't cover anything... (and I got the full plan)! You are better off paying an independent contractor to do the real work and not waste your money on services that are cut off because they are not covered... ex. Pool coverage - it's very limited but they offer that full 9 yards! If you have a plumbing issue they will not even do a pressure test within their assessment. I am very disappointed with the service of this company and I will not recommend this experience to anyone.

We opened a work order on April 18 2017 to service/repair our heat pump. Two weeks later AHS was unable to locate a contractor to service us. AHS approved us to find our own contractor. I made 1 phone call and less than 2 hours later a tech was at our home. We learned the compressor needed to be replaced. We jumped through all the hoops AHS requires. They refused to make the repair based on two technicalities. 1st "our" contractor used flat rate pricing. 2nd they choose to exercise the second opinion option. As explained to us. It gives then 48 hours to get their own contractor out for review. 6 business days later their second opinion contractor showed up.
8 days later they approved their contractor to compete the job. 4 days after that they confirmed they ordered the part. They stated it takes 3 to 5 business days to get the part. Upon arrival they will call to set up a install time but warned it could take several weeks due to the "busy season". It's now June 1 2017. The part was ordered 6 days ago. We still have no A/C and no idea where things stand. I estimate I've spent approximately 30 hours on the phone with AHS. The management/ leadership has compartmentalized decision makers making it impossible to escalate a complaint or repair. Each call requires you to start from the beginning. Not to mention the "authorization department" is terrible at documenting. I was ever advised by one person on the authorizations team that I would be better off just getting the repair done and paying for it myself.

I called AHS and informed them that two vendors were contacting me and that the vendor present told me there were additional charges on top of my $75 deductible.
I was told the wrong vendor was there and they were not authorized, and I would have to wait until another day because I contacted the vendor on my own. (I contacted no one on my own.) I communicated this several times and 2 of the 3 customer service reps were very short and did not listen to my situation, instead kept repeating information that was obvious to the situation. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that they couldn't help me. Was not impressed with the service and my $75 fee turned into $330 because parts were only covered at 15% and I had to pick up the rest, which I was ok with. What I wasn't was not getting the answers I needed or the service I would expect from an organization like this and having to take additional time off. I felt like I was being rushed off the phone.

A different service man came out and said there was a leak and he would get back to me. Two days later after not hearing from anybody, I called both the service company and AHS. Bottom line, it was going to cost me $1405 to replace the coil which was still under warranty. I complained and I was told take it or leave it. I called another HVAC company who is a certified dealer from Lennox air. Their price for replacing the coil is $1200. So, why am I paying AHS? So, far I've had to spend $150 for nothing and the AHS service company wants another $1405 and they won't start the work until I pay up front. I wonder how long AHS will leave this up on their page?

I've been with American Home Shield for about nine years and I pay monthly. I know that whatever happens or when I need some major work done, I’m comfortable that they will come through for me and I appreciate that. Submitting a claim was perfectly easy to do. I prefer calling them than doing it online because I try for someone to come on and communicate with me. Then they give me the name of the company that’s coming out. AHS representatives were very professional and knowledgeable. As a matter of fact, after a problem is solved, I get an email asking if everything is okay and if there are any other problems. So, American Shield’s number one for me.
The recent claim was about my air conditioner. It wouldn’t come on so I called AHS and they had someone call me within a day. It took two days for my air condition unit problem to be solved. My air condition unit is on the roof so the technician had to go on the back porch and would need an 8-foot ladder to get up to the top. The first technician that came didn't have a ladder so he promised that he'll send somebody with a ladder the next day. The second technician came with a ladder the next day so he went up there and solved the problem. After that, the unit performed great and working normally. I’m satisfied. They did their job and I will continue being a customer. I definitely will recommend them.
I would like to thank you for the positive feedback! I am glad we were able to repair your air conditioner unit.

Also, the price went up a little bit for this year and they didn't tell me why. However, they gave me a deal where it helped a little bit but it was still higher than when I first enrolled. I don't want the price creeping up every year. I would also love to have my garage covered. But on the whole, everything has been good.

I submitted a claim to American Home Shield online for a plumbing issue and it was unfortunate because the computer system assigned me to a vendor that I wasn't sure I was gonna like. They gave me the first plumber that came. I'm sure they got some rotation system they use, but they gave me the one that the computer gave me and that was it. There wasn't any manner of me checking out other plumbers. I called up the vendor the next morning and I called them twice, but no one answered the phone. And if it was answered, they were crummy. I can't get anybody to answer the phone so I won't gonna get much service.
I called up American Home Shield and they said they can't change to another supplier. I can't change to another supplier once I was assigned to that person. I was gonna have to deal with it whatever that turns up. I'm not used to that. I normally get a change when I want to ask for one. In the past with American Home Shield, I've changed the supplier and there's no problem with it. Maybe they changed their policy to not allow that, and I didn't like that.
After discussing that with them and telling them how I dislike that, I hung up, and I called the plumbing company back up again. This time, they answered. They told me that the guy was coming at such time, and I said "Okay." The plumbing guy came out and he did an excellent job of fixing things quickly and efficiently. He's a good plumber and everything was perfect with him. The plumber didn't know about what the companies put out, and that was it. He left and I haven't heard anything since.

I've had the policy since 2000 and they're okay, not terrific. I live in the country so they have a hard time finding technicians to come my way but once they do, the technicians that come out are absolutely fabulous. Once, my washer went out and they totally replaced it because it couldn’t be repaired. We also have double ovens and its computer board went out and they replaced that as well. I’m pretty satisfied with them.
The only flaw was the air conditioning system which kinda bites. Our system was a $25,000 brand new set, but then the computer board went out. American Home Shield assigned a company to us but cancelled it the next day and I had no idea why. I called back and the rep said she would reschedule it but I never heard from them. When I called the company, they said it has been cancelled and was never reinstated. Then, we checked the policy. Our home has phase two air conditioning systems and they never explained that it's not covered when we took the files to be updated. They didn't give us any answers. They just said it's not covered. That was our major flaw with them. We would want that covered, especially in Texas. Other than that issue, American Home Shield is fairly decent.

AHS resolved this situation to the terms of the warranty. They reviewed the service company they had sent out and it was deemed that services that both myself and AHS had requested were not performed by the 3rd party. AHS did honor the contract. so I am satisfied with the resolution. The terms of both our agreements (both what I paid for and the service they provided were inline with the contract.

Short and simple they offer you a "Warranty" they hope you never use. Should you have to use it, they delay repairs and never follow up. The contractors they do send out do a "garbage" repair, just put a band-aid on it, and let it limp along. Short version is this: AC died before warranty expired. Paid a "tech" a $75 service fee to get an estimate instead of troubleshooting. The tech's first words were, "I hope you don't think they are going to replace your AC" eyeballed my unit and said, "Yup it's leaking coolant, it's too old, oh it was never installed correctly."
I live in Florida, AC is a must have in the summer. So for 2 weeks I went without while waiting for the tech to submit their troubleshooting repair. Only when I threatened legal action did a manager ever send a second tech who decided he was nice enough to put in a few pounds of free coolant. This lasted about 5 hours. AHS called the repair good (despite no leak being fixed) and instead of fighting with them over the phone I just paid for a whole new unit. If you are offered to buy a warranty for anyone or even asked to buy a warranty DO NOT DO IT. They don't honor the terms of the contract and do as little as possible. This company is a scam, they've been sued once for it. I can't wait for the next class action suit.

First of all, this is not my first home warranty company, so I have a perspective of comparison on this. This is however the worst of the 4 companies I've used. What is infuriating about them is they are quick to find an exclusion and refuse to negotiate or even discuss the situation once they make the decision. The most recent company before AHS I used (in Ohio) would answer their calls (not an automated system) and react accordingly, especially in an emergency. In Ohio, when my furnace went out in the middle of winter, They sent a repairman to the house within two hours. They had an emergency protocol.
AHS wouldn't respond for hours when my sump pump went out one night and then when I called a plumber myself, they simply said no coverage. When my water heater started leaking, they claimed it was installed incorrectly when it was originally installed 18 years ago, 15 years before I bought the house, even though the plumber said it had reached the end of its service life. No coverage. When the pipe leading to the outside faucet sprung a leak, they said it was because of freezing and that was an exclusion. The plumber rolled his eyes and shook his head. No coverage. I asked him how much it would cost to repair and he said $285. I talked to AHS and they were more than happy to cancel my $55 per month charge rather than pay the $285 (Really $210 after my $75 fee).
I went to the Better Business Bureau site and saw they had a B rating (Why I didn't check this before, I don't know). I called the top rated company. They charged less per month, had a lower per visit fee, and allowed me to call any licensed contractor I want. They also had a solid 5-star rating on this site (AHS was 3.5). I signed up with them and cancelled my AHS account. They charged me $60+ to cancel, another $60 for the plumber who came (their cost) then tried to get me to pay a service fee from January that I already paid. I'm expecting them to bill me for the $75 fee for the visit today.
The previous company I had always made me feel like they were trying to solve my problem. I didn't always agree with their solutions (repairing a 30+ year old furnace one part at a time) but I never got the feeling they were looking for a way to get out of a claim. AHS left me with the feeling that they are simply looking for an exclusion, a technicality, an excuse first for every claim and are really just in the business of collecting money.
I understand your frustration with American Home Shield regarding the service request you have placed with us over time. I would like to speak with you soon.

After having an extremely bad experience with getting our furnace fixed, AHS sent out various companies to repair our furnace to no avail. After numerous repairmen and companies, we were told that we had exhausted our benefits and that no additional work would be approved. This lasted for months and we ended up having to hire an independent company that was able to successfully diagnose and fix the problem the first time and all necessary repairs were completed within a week.
Second attempt to use AHS was to repair a leaky pipe located in the ceiling. They promptly serviced request, but left debris and a coat of grime on everything in the room, paid extra money to the vendor to have the pipe next to it replaced as well, only to find a leak in the same spot six month later. Due to repair we had to have the ceiling repainted. We called to report it and was told that there was nothing they could do. So what does that mean? We will be paying again out of pocket to have the issue diagnosed, fixed and have the ceiling repainted again. Wasted money and frustration, what's the point of having a home warranty that doesn't stand by its work.

Save your time and money!!! We have been loyal customers for 5 years. Never had a problem until our AC broke down 4 weeks ago, we live in a desert area so you might see the urgency of this matter which by the way does not matter to this company. The unit was 20 years old, the new unit that they put in needed different electrical... this was not a choice for us. They call this a "modification". On top of the deductible I already paid to the HVAC, they request I pay ANOTHER separate deductible to the electrician and the electrician after all... is not covered because it's a modification. How convenient is that? It would not matter what AC it was replaced even the contractor said it was not a modification, it is NECESSARY for the unit to work. Isn't that what we are covered for?
According to AHS customer support "IT IS NOT OUR JOB TO ENSURE THAT THE AC WORKS JUST THAT WE REPLACE THE UNIT!" How about that! I now have an new AC unit sitting in my backyard. NO AC after 4 weeks. Let me remind you I have young children and an open electrical unit with pipes and cords sticking out of the wall however AHS considers this ticket closed!! Plus the dishwasher is now near unusable due to rust, unclean interior, etc. A health hazard. When I try to explain to customer service that it's better for both for us to replace, they just give different excuses. 'If it can be repaired, it will be repaired' on and on in a loop. Technician didn't send us an estimate etc etc. whereas I have the parts and repair receipt. One almost yelling at me 'So what do you want me to do?' CS has gone down the drain in recent months. And looking at recent reviews, it looks like a trend. They are rude, aggressive, unhelpful, no knowledge. Bad communication. The AC unit has broken a lot lately because it's 23 years old. American Home Shield told the vendor, Air Supply, to come out and fix it but they never showed up. I called and told them their guys haven't showed up yet. It was already past the time frame they gave and I wanted to know what time they were coming. The lady gave the phone to another lady who said they're not gonna service us anymore. I asked why and she told me it was because of the things I said on our taped phone call conversation. I did not say anything bad because we even talked about them coming out and giving me a place for the new air conditioner, and she was even telling me I shouldn’t have American Home Shield because they're not gonna pay for me to get one if it keeps breaking.
The reason I got American Home Shield was my unit was old, and I felt like I was gonna pay for it every time. I understood American Home Shield was gonna keep fixing it as long as there are parts, and that was what was going on. I only would always call Air Supply because of Travis who had fixed the unit every time. The last two times they sent somebody, Travis didn’t work there anymore and that’s where we had our issue. That day that I had called, it was a return because the technician came out here for one second and didn’t fix it. He said there wasn’t anything wrong. As soon as he left, it was the same issue. When I called, she said, “Well, you told us that was a reclaim for the upstairs but really it was the downstairs.” I told her it was my fault and that I was sorry and she told me it's gonna be $75. I told her I'd pay it. I was triggered and also told her I felt like I didn’t have that conversation with her. I got mad at the end and cussed her.
I told American Home Shield that Air Supply wouldn't come and service my AC unit and they were very nice about it and said they were sorry. They directed me to another person with R.E. Graves who was local in my area. Everything was fine and my air conditioning unit upstairs has been fixed but I have no heat. The technician from R.E. Graves had to re-route it. So I'm in the process of getting prices because I can't keep dealing with it. I feel like I had to call about it a lot and it was $75 here, $75 there. Nonetheless, I'm happy with American Home Shield. I've had decent luck with them and that's why I've stayed. When I called, they answered the phone right away and were very helpful. They’ve done pretty good on me and they’ve steered me in the direction where I needed to go to get things done.

The ice machine and filter system of my refrigerator were broken. My husband submitted a claim to American Home Shield and they told me Sears would call me soon which they did. However, the scheduling with Sears was difficult but that wasn't American Home Shield's fault. The problem initially was that Sears gave me an eight to five window which was a very large window for a working person. But the contractor they sent out was great. He came when he said he would and he was very helpful. He also asked me if I had any other questions. Since the repair, the refrigerator has been working. With this situation, my experience with AHS was pretty good, but I've had difficulty in the past. I had a few concerns overall.

I filed a claim with AHS for a refrigerator that was not working. I just filled out a form online and it was easy. But it took them five days to have somebody come out because of the company they hired - the same company for different things that came out before. They're only available Monday to Friday, 11 to 3, but they were more than willing to come out on Memorial Day. The contractors knew what they were doing and it was done fairly quickly. And the refrigerator works fine now. So overall, it was a good experience.
I am glad we were able to repair your refrigerator in a timely manner and on a holiday. Thank you for choosing American Home Shield!

My recent claim with AHS was on the oven, where they took awhile to get somebody out to evaluate it. The individual who came out and evaluated the oven said he didn't think it was repairable and sent the information that he got from his inspection back to the company. We signed a contract after about a week where they agreed to replace it, and that went pretty good. They gave me some options as they said my initial stove was not in stock anymore. Once they said that they were going to pay to replace it, I went out to the local box store and bought one, sent the information on what I paid for, then they sent me the check. Going day by day without an oven in the house was kind of rough, but overall, it went pretty good. I also had a faucet replaced, and the turnaround time was a bit longer for that. It took a while for a plumber to come out and look at it, but when he came out, he replaced that day on the spot, and that went pretty good too.

I have now been without air conditioning since May 22. When I have follow up with both American Home Shield and the provider they sent I am only told that they will give me an ETA when they can. I told them with a 10-month old in 90 degree heat, that simply isn't good enough. When I spoke to an American Home Shield supervisor, she indicated that they do not take any action once their selected contractor takes over- that it is policy for them to not hold them to an ETA if there is a part involved. I find it ridiculous that they won't help their customer get a better idea of how long they will be living without air conditioning.
Not to mention that I have had to get my ice maker fixed 3 times (still not working), and all they will do is simply place a reorder on my behalf instead of sending a new contractor since the existing one clearly isn't completing the required job. If someone was paying you, wouldn't you want them to receive the best service? Unfortunately I am currently stuck with them, but will be telling my friends, family and anyone who will listen to avoid them and their lack of customer advocacy.

I have been going through the worst experience with this company. I called for a service request for a leaking sink. They sent out a company that determined it was some leaking pipes and a bad garbage disposal. They wanted to charge me $700 for the job!! I knew that was absurd so I did not have them do the job. I hired a handyman who charged me $175. I bought the garbage disposal for him to put in which was $140. This was a huge savings. I've been disputing with AHS to pay for the garbage disposal because it is covered under the policy. They will not cover it because they didn't come out for a garbage disposal, they came out for a leak. When I told them that their contractor wanted to replace the garbage disposal they said I needed to verify with them first.
This is insane, that is the contractor's job! They also want me to pay $75 for the service call. I absolutely refuse to do this since they sent me someone who completely wanted to take advantage of me. I am so upset with this company who has the worst customer service I have ever encountered. Do not go with this home warranty company whatever you do!

Not only do they not treat their customers with respect, they hide behind every possible corner they can. I paid the service fee for my septic 6 months ago, provided evidence that I paid & they confirmed it more than 3 times with the provider that I paid and still call me wanting payment. Denied me coverage on my HVAC because they said the 1.5-2 ton unit was too small for the 1000 sq/ft area it cools. They denied my coverage on my microwave that while cooking, jammed causing the glass to shatter. Said that the unit was a countertop (it isn't) and that because we discarded the glass top (I guess I was to leave for my 3 kids to play with) and when I call for service, I have to call them to schedule times usually 3-4 days after the request even though they are supposed to contact you within 48 hours. There are better options out there. This is when I have sold homes in the past. I always use someone else. BEWARE.

Horrible! Our central AC stopped working so we called and submitted a claim. The company never called to schedule repair and when I called I was put on hold for 40 min before I hung up. I called AHS again and they transferred the repair to a different company. The AHS rep told me they would repair it the next morning. Fast forward to the next morning and when no one showed up I called company #2 and I wasn't on any of their schedules. This is not the way to do business.
I've been living in a house for 4 days and counting with no air in the SC heat. I had to get a portable AC to try and keep the inside temp of my house below 90. In the time since the AC stopped working I could've had 10 companies here to fix it! The AHS reps are quick to remind me that they are operating within the "time frame on our contract". Easy for them to say I guess. Long story short, if you don't mind wasting $700 on a warranty and don't mind waiting around for someone shady business (company #1 had a D rating) to roll around and "fix" your problem then sign up for this warranty.

My garbage disposal stopped working and the plumber replaced it. He did a good job on that and took care of the problem very fast. He gave me some tips on why it probably broke down, too. But the time before that, the experience wasn’t that good because the guy promised to come back with a new faucet for my kitchen, but he never did at all.

I have a 25-year-old heat pump and they needed to change the expansion valves. The company that came out said that they needed to change the refrigerant, which American Home Shield doesn’t pay for and it would amount to approximately $1,000 plus my deductible. They’re showing me there’s a $300 repair and a $75 deductible, but in actuality, the repair is over $1,000. I’m really questioning the obsolescence of the unit and I’m not sure what their process is but if you have a 25-year-old unit that takes a $1,000 repair, which is over a third of the cost of a brand-new unit, they should at least look if it would be replaced.
I understand why they want to change the refrigerant. One is that they can’t tell what’s in the system. I know that it’s never been opened up since the last five years, so I’m not really worried about contamination, which is one of the failure modes of the PX2000. I get where they’re going with that, but if that’s the case and if it’s one of the best refrigeration practices, then the refrigerant should be included in the contract. If I do a $1,000 repair and the compressor goes out, then they’re going to replace the refrigerant and change the driers and then charge me $1,000 again for the refrigerant.
They didn’t even entertain any other drop in refrigerants like 422A, which is a cheaper alternative to the original R22. R22 is out of production as of 2020 and manufacturers have already been required to switch over to alternate refrigerants. So during that process, if they were only gonna pay $10 a pound, then I would think that they’d want their service providers to provide the lower cost drop in refrigerants instead of the premium-priced refrigerants that are being obsoleted. Instead of $100 a pound, that’s $40 a pound. They have paid $10 and I’m still stuck to $30 a pound but that’s $300 instead of $1,000.
I had some plenty of work done. I had to work on my garage door opener. That was all tip-top. So the last repair was expecting the customer to pay for the refrigerant. On top of that, I guided the refrigeration tech on diagnosing the unit. They told me I was low on refrigerant and he was going to add three or four pounds, which is $300 or $400. I asked him to call me back when he had the gauges in front of the unit, then I asked him for some industry-standard readings on the machine. Then he decided that the failure mode wasn’t refrigerant. If indeed he added refrigerant and the same failure mode existed, then that would have been an additional $300 if I was an average customer. They would have told me they have to pull the refrigerant out and add new in. So that’s another three pounds I would have paid for. So that brings you up to $1,300 for an apparent repair that was allegedly covered under the warranty.
I wasn’t thrilled with the $1,000 repair and that I pay $600 a year for the insurance. One of the reasons I carry that insurance was for the heat pump and the well. With other stuff that they’ve done, I haven’t had an issue. But with this current repair with the heat pump, they’re not covering anything. The refrigerant is $100 a pound. They’re paying $10 a pound and the refrigerant is being replaced unnecessarily. I’m an EPA and I do technical support over the phone for refrigeration systems, so I'm slightly savvier than the average customer. It cost me a $110 for the valve and it took me an hour and 10 minutes to get the unit running. I might as well not have insurance at that point.

The only issue was one of the young ladies was disrespectful, but they took care of it. We've used AHS several times and I recommend them all the time.

I recently submitted a claim over the phone with American Home Shield for my garage door opener and the claims reps were knowledgeable. Also, it was no problem getting through to the website but the problem was the responsiveness of the provider that they have to repair garage doors. Getting him to schedule took nearly a better part of the week. They were at least an hour away at Livingston, New Jersey and in the meanwhile, my garage door was not operating. It was five business days later but they showed up when they said they would and did the repair very well. They knew exactly what the problem was and took care of it.
Hi, Anton. I am sorry to hear that it took so long for your garage door opener to get serviced. Unfortunately, if we do not have anyone closer to service, that can happen. Whenever something goes down, I usually call American Home Shield right away. I don’t wait for a delay. They handle my calls. Most of the time when I call and whatever I need to get done, they get it resolved. They’ll contact somebody pretty quickly and I wait. Usually that morning or that afternoon, someone will call and then the person comes out. Most of the contractors here were very friendly. They all took time out explaining to me what happened or why something broke down and what they have to do.
About a month ago, I had a plumbing issue and there’s this thing where they had to be replaced, and this affected me momentarily. I called AHS not long after and within the next day or two, it was repaired and it's working. The contractor was done within half an hour. We only had an issue with the stove. They kept saying the knob of the stoves are not covered. I don’t agree with a lot of stuff that they don’t cover, but that’s their policy, so I take it from there. But as far as the stuff that they come out and do, I have no problem with them. I’m overall satisfied. I personally haven't had any issues, but I know some people that does not like American Home Shield, but maybe they’re dealing with different things.
I would like to thank you for choosing American Home Shield and I am glad we were able to repair the malfunctions that occurred and provide you with good service.

I heard about American Home Shield through my mother and brother. They both have had it for a little bit longer than I have. I signed up with AHS around the fall of last year. According to what I understood, I have the same plan as them so I should have the same coverage. I pay the same monthly fee and the same co-pay that if someone comes out, the service fee is $75.
I have two AC units and one went out in November. American Home Shield came out and found that it was the coils that needed to be replaced and apparently, that was not covered. I knew Freon was 100% covered. I know there’re certain things that aren’t covered. With my luck, this stuff wasn’t covered. Long story short, I ended up paying around $900 out of my pocket for that service. They quoted me for all these spare parts and when the technicians from that company that made the repairs came out, they ended up to my benefit. They said, "Oh, there’s a part on here that they said you were gonna need and you don’t need it." They removed that amount from the $900 and took the part back.
In December I had an issue with the company that came out to fix my washer and as of about a month ago, they still want me to pay $75 for something that I was told from the beginning I would not be charged because it took them three months to fix the dishwasher. Anyway, now my other unit was acting up. Long story short, I ended up paying $300 out of my pocket for them to fix that. Not only am I paying the monthly fee, I’m paying the $75 when they come out and every time they come out, I’ve had to pay out of pocket outside of what is covered. And every time I’ve called and I’ve had an issue or concern, I have been very open and verbal about it to them. So it's not unknown to them. And quite frankly, I don’t know how much longer I will stay with the company.

My AC went out mid-April 2017. We reported to AHS, and they sent their affiliated technician out and we were advised that refrigerant needed to be added. We paid a portion of the refrigerant cost as well as AHS' service fee. We had the AC serviced by another local AC company in Oct and thought it was odd to need freon again, but we're also not AC experts, so we said "Ok, great".
May 9th AC goes out again, AHS sends same company, this time we request a more experienced technician to diagnose the issue since it went out again so quickly. Same company, different tech comes out and again, says we need more freon. We reiterate that our AC freon was topped off in Oct and then an additional 5lbs of R22 freon added less than a month prior, but we are told it needs more.
Three days later it is out again. Same company comes, says coil is dirty (first we've heard of this) and will need coil cleaned to fully diagnose. We clean inside coils as instructed and tech comes back and you guessed it! It needs freon! We say this is ridiculous, an AC isn't supposed to lose freon at all and tech assures us it could have been because freon was added on a cool day (85 degrees out) and may have required more due to freon levels are less accurately measured in cooler weather. We call AHS back and request a new service company. New company comes and cleans both inside and outside coils, says AC is working perfectly and was freezing up due to dirty coils.
Less than 2 days later, AC is out again! This was May 17th! AHS sends 1st company out again and they say, "We can see now that the inside AC coil is clogged and will need to be replaced." Finally, some answers, right? We go for a week with no AC (in Louisiana) and no answers from AHS on when AC coil will be replaced. AHS says they're waiting on AC service company and service company says they're waiting on AHS to find parts. We decide we do not want original AC company to replace AC as they have dropped the ball numerous times already and we're afraid of the shoddy work they're likely to perform as they haven't been able to swiftly diagnose the problem.
We finally get an estimate on repairs and it's for inside air handler only, as AC coil part cannot be found, even though AC repair company as well as AHS reps report both inside and outside units will need to be replaced as units are obsolete and outside unit will be incompatible with any interior unit it would be replaced with. In between this run-around with AHS, we pay out of pocket for another AC company to come for another opinion. They charge AC and do a leak test and find leaks in both outside coil and inside coil. I report this to AHS. I had already advised we were paying personally for a second opinion as AHS advised we could not request another company for another opinion.
Upon telling them we want to pursue cash in lieu option instead of having repairs completed by their affiliated repair company, I was advised that both units would be included in estimate and calculated in the cash amount offered. We received cash offer today for just over $1000. The estimate to replace entire unit inside and out is just over $5000. AHS reports they will not pay for replacement as AC repair company reported only indoor air handler needed replacement, even though they know both need to be replaced. They said the technicians they sent did not report outside leaks, so I go to the office of the repair company and find out today that they have never performed a leak test!!! Ever! In all of those calls! When asked why, they said AHS has to approve leak testing and they were advised problem was with indoor unit only, so they've never even assessed outdoor unit!
I am flabbergasted by the complete and total incompetence of both AC repair co. and AHS. They are saying we have to pay $420 out of pocket for refrigerant line and drain changes associated with replacement of indoor air handling unit, but they have to be cut when replacing a unit. Our contract says these things are covered when transitioning from unit to unit. I can't get any info on what brand they want to replace with, so how can we even know if there will be drain or refrigerant line modifications aside from just reconnecting lines? It's all a ploy to pay as little as possible by AHS.
The list of issues with AHS goes on and on. I need to replace my AC and have gone around and around with AHS purchasing dept getting different answers every time I call. I think this is on purpose so we will give up and just accept what they offer and get the AC replaced. Today I demanded a leak test be performed and have been promised it will happen tomorrow morning. This issue has not been resolved to date. I am giving a one star review at this time because -0- stars is not an option.

So 10 months later different issue, air conditioning compressor failed. AHS, says compressor will be replaced BUT, I have to pay for freon, this time 407c freon, but still expensive, cost out of pocket will be $500.00 again. I understand the contract and AHS is going strictly by the contract. I called and ask AHS to help me with the cost since I paid all that money for the freon on the last service call. They will not work with me. I will be out of pocket over $1500.00 for the home warranty contract, the first service call and now the second service call.

I had a terrible experience with AHS. I made a claim last summer concerning my air conditioner. A company was sent out to find out why it would not cool. The company sent out a different tech each time, who contradicted the tech before him. This went on all summer long. They could not figure out the problem and AHS refused to replace the unit. I had a non-working ac unit 90% of the time in the Texas summer. The problem was finally "solved" in October when the weather cooled off.
A couple of months later I attempted to use the heater. It would blow hot for a little bit and then blow cold air. I made a claim through AHS and a different company was sent out. This company advised us that our unit had been tampered with. A part had been "pinched off". I was told that this had provided a temporary fix for the ac unit, but was very damaging long term and I would need the part replaced plus more Freon.
I was advised that it would actually be cheaper to replace the unit. The company provided me with a written statement saying this and notified AHS. I was told by AHS that there was no proof that the former company had caused the damage. Furthermore, because the damage was already there when the new company came out AHS refused to cover for any work at all to be done on the unit because it was now considered "pre-existing". A rider was put on my warranty that my ac unit would no longer be covered under the warranty. Needless to say I ended/cancelled my warranty with this company after that.

The last claim we did with AHS was an AC problem that has been a continuing problem. We’re trying to figure out where the leak is. Currently, it hasn't been resolved yet. The technician has added a leak tester thing but I know that I’ve got a very limited amount of time since there's a 60-day window once they put the leak tester in there which is really not fair. It should start on that date versus the day that I called in the initial report in.
I have been doing the claims online unless I get assigned to a person that I will not let in my house. The online claim is a lot quicker than having to call in. The only problem is if I get assigned or if I want to request a certain company, then it’s going to take me 30 minutes to get through sometimes. On the other hand, the AHS representatives have always been very nice. I’ve only had one contractor that took advantage of the situation and I will not allow him to do any work. Besides him, everyone else has been good. I've had good service from AHS.
Hello, Catherine. I do understand your opinion on the recall period, it is 60 days from the last time the tech was out, please make sure to place your recall prior to the time frame running out to ensure there is no new service fee. Thank you for letting us know about your service experience.

I have been an AHS customer since 2005 and my experience with them has been mostly pleasant. I had an air conditioning that broke many years ago. They replaced it which was great but I had to wait until it was completely broken. And then I have a refrigerator that was making a lot of loud noise but because it was still cold, they will not replace it. Instead of getting it repaired, I asked for them to give me the money. I said I'm going to try to buy something else instead of having to listen to that noise all day every day. I spent plenty of money with AHS for 12 years. I have two properties that they cover so I more than paid for these appliances with my subscription throughout the years. Other than that, everybody has been very customer-oriented and they listen and call back.

I've had American Home Shield for quite a while and I almost didn’t renew it because my money is kind of funny. However, my husband, who fixed everything, passed away three and a half years ago. He was a plumber and a carpenter. Now, it's just me so I thought I have to keep up with this because I don’t have anybody to fix anything. So, that day I called and said, "I don’t want this to lapse. I just feel like I need to keep it." The rep said, “We can take the first payment out of your account, and then you can pay the rest.” Thank God I did that because two days later, my air conditioner went out. So, I learned real quick. Don’t let them go.
My air conditioner just quit. It was running, but there was nothing coming in the house. So I just cut it completely off because I knew something was wrong and I called American Home Shield at 8 o’clock. The rep was good and because I don't like recordings, it's good when I get to a person. It was nice. Plus, a technician happened to be in this area at the time, and so they sent him over here the same day. I was very appreciative because it gets hot in the house. He was a very nice young man and he replaced the fan motor. Now, my air conditioner is working really better. It gets cooler quicker now.
I’m just very pleased with them so far. I have another company call me, Choice Home Warranty, and they were a lot cheaper but I did some checking on the internet and with people, and everything I got was negative. It sounded really good to me because it was gonna save me lots of money. But when I checked into it, it wasn’t gonna save me anything because they said they don't fix anything. In comparison, I've never had any problem with anybody in American Home Shield. When I had my hot water heater go out, the plumbing guy that they sent was very, very nice. And I've had him again ‘cause I request him if I have a plumbing problem because I know his work and how he’s gonna act. He’s not gonna track mud in my house. He’s just a real nice guy.
The only problem I had was one time with my bathtub faucet. My husband built this house in 1959 and so it’s very old. And the thing that I lift up so the shower comes on broke. They a hard time finding one because it’s so old and I told him that there’s a place right here in Nederland that keeps stuff for old people. They know people have old houses. So, he went down there and got it from them and it was fine. At American Home Shield, they are just great people. I recommend them very highly.
Thank you for providing us with a thorough review and I am glad to hear you have enjoyed your American Home Shield Warranty.

I've been with American Home Shield for a couple of years and I love them. I've been super satisfied with them. They’ve been fabulous and amazingly good in my area. I have a swimming pool which is also old as I am and American Home Shield sent Knock Out Pools and fixed it. They did a great job. I may call them and ask them what their rates are for cleaning the pool. However, in my recent claim, American Home Shield took a long time sending someone and the technician who was initially sent out was very quick, but didn’t get the job done. He seemed to be in a big hurry and stayed for 15 minutes. But the second person who was sent out in a reasonable amount of time was excellent. He was very joyous in explaining everything and was giving me some advice for down the road with the systems that I have. He did a beautiful job.
I have recommended American Home Shield to my good friends and relatives. I'm a retired doctor and most of the folks that I know who are doctors have American Home Shield, too. Their rates are also reasonable for what has to be done to the house. I hope that they continue the good work that they have been doing. They’ve got a happy customer here.

My most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a problem with my air conditioning unit. Submission of claim worked out well. The contractors were very good as they were courteous and professional. They had to come back a second time but they did so quickly and they did it well. Now my appliances are working fine and I am very happy.

We’ve been with AHS for quite some time and their online process is very user-friendly. A month ago, the hardware for the garage door opener had to be reinstalled so I called AHS and submitted a claim. They were very cooperative, supportive and the process was pretty quick. We actually had two different things and they were nice enough to just join them together in one big case. The other one was an issue with our doorbell, we had the battery replaced. The contractors that came were really nice and friendly. They did a good work so everything’s up and working right now. It’s been pretty smooth so far.

The most recent claim I have with American Home Shield is regarding a faucet which is still open. It's been two months almost and part of it is because one of the plumbers they sent came and looked at it and then they never came back. And then the second plumber figured out the issue but then they wanted to replace the faucet but AHS offered to cover the basic faucet which I dont want. So, I asked them to give me a buyout option, give me whatever they pay for this kind of claim and then I will probably buy the part and pay for the plumber myself. I like a high end faucet in my bathroom and I don't want to replace it with a basic thing.
Prior to that there was the dishwasher claim. It took like four weeks to fix it because they have to order parts. But eventually it was very well fixed and it has been working so far, so no complaints from that. But every time I call their customer service it's like half an hour at least and if you ever call back for a single claim a couple of times it's annoying.
But if you can do it online or the automated system it's easier. But most of the time you have to call them back for one reason or another so their customer service should be more prompt. And then sometimes they say they will follow up and then it will be weeks before they will follow up on a claim. So they should be more efficient in their callback. Say if they will call back within a day with an issue they should probably keep that rather than the customer calling them like five times to get an answer.
But their reps are usually very professional. Some contractors are really nice. They follow up, they have schedule, they come on time. But with some contractors you just have to call them so many times before they reply to your phone call. So American Home Shield could work on their contractor relationship also because some of the contractors they hire are not really good. So overall, it's been okay but it's not excellent. And if I had a better option, probably next time I will not renew with them.

I recently had a claim for the emergency overflow problem with the air conditioning unit on the second floor of our home. The reps at American Home Shield were very cooperative. However, I'm not happy with the contractor whose technicians misdiagnosed the problem and had to have them out four different times. The most recent technician was the one who correctly diagnosed the problem and solved it. The rest of them didn’t do a good job at all. On a couple occasions, they were in too big of a hurry getting in here and out in five minutes. The problem was just as bad, if not worse, when they left as it was when they got here. And I had to leave my job to come home every time they come. But it wasn’t American Home Shield's fault. They were fine in terms of quickly sending somebody out.

I had to call AHS about my pool pump equipment and that call required several visits before they got it resolved. It started on the 15th, Monday, of this month and they didn’t get it resolved or finished until Friday the 26th. Submitting the claim online was an easy process. They're responsive and always texts me whenever it's been assigned to a contractor and if he's on his way to our house. They even gave me a little map that shows where they're at en route on the text. I'm calling them back because there's not enough water on the pool pump. It's not right again and it's at that age where everything is breaking on it. It's 13 years old and all of it is wearing out. It's just how it goes. Overall, the experience had been good and I would recommend others having a policy.

I had some issues with my electricals. The light bulbs in the kitchen were flashing. Basically, they had to change the bulbs. I submitted that claim online and it was easy. All I had to do was put my phone number and the zip code. Then it pulls up my account and then from there, I can put in the request. I get an email or a text about the person or company that has been assigned then I touch base with them and it starts from there.
I've had really good experiences with the technicians. The last one, with the light bulbs, said there was nothing serious. Before that, I had an issue with my washing machine and the mechanic was very prompt. He came on time and he ordered the parts on time. The only issue I had was about one of the lights in the backyard. I complained to AHS and they said that it's something to do with the wiring. Other than that, all my experiences have been good. I have recommended AHS to a lot of friends and always tell them about it.

Last week, we filed a claim with American Home Shield 30 minutes after noticing the issue with one of our air conditioning units. We did it through the automated system, but it was very quick, very painless and the follow-up was almost immediate. They were very quick in responding and giving me the name of the company that would be servicing it who was out within two days.
The contractor was US Air Conditioning and they were wonderful. They were calling the next morning to schedule an appointment for the following day. The service rep dealt with my wife. He identified the problem, called her back on Thursday to confirm that they had the needed part and offered to come by Friday afternoon or anytime over the weekend to install it. We were out of town, so at our request, it was done this morning. He called her cellphone last night, in Memorial Day, to confirm the time that he would be there. AHS delivered as promised and it was a pleasant experience. The problem was taken care of and seeing how it’s about 92 or 93 today, that’s very important.

The technician came without even open the machine to inspect the parts, and the next day American Home Shield said they already closed the case because 'overloading' is not covered, and they are out of it. I don't even know if that's the real issue of the washer. According to Yelp review, this specific vendor Ukon Appliance Repair has history of lying to make sure the appliances not covered by insurance. I should have never trusted American Home Shield saying 'We hire local professionals' and it's my fault to have American Home Shield to let them assign that vendor into my house.

The light on my range hood wouldn’t go out. So my initial contractor, who came out right away, determined that I needed to order a part. It turns out the part was no longer available. He went back to American Home Shield and they said they had to order me a new range hood and it’s one that comes out of my ceiling. The ordering process went smoothly. They told me what my options were and I told them what I wanted. That came and the delivery went fine.
On the other hand, getting in touch with the contractor who was supposed to come and install the range hood has been a nightmare. I finally got in touch with him after calling American Home Shield twice. They were supposed to come yesterday, but they sent the wrong installers and they told me that it was going to cost me a lot more than I originally thought and I said, “Well, they said it won’t cost me anything because it’s already done. It’s already paid for.” They told me American Home Shield did not contract this. So, I said, that they’ll have to take that up with American Home Shield. They said it might not be until tomorrow that they contacted me. AHS has been fine, I always get the service that I need. The only thing is that their choice of repair people are not making into Angie’s list which is my scaling. But I’ve had them for years so it’s mostly good experience.

About a couple of months ago, I filed a claim with American Home Shield on a plumbing issue in a shower. The problem started about a month before I called it in. The initial issue was a smell and apparently, they don’t cover smells, but they still dispatched someone and I still paid the service fee even though it was something that should not have been dispatched. I was able to resolve the smell issue myself, but it was not as a result of anything done by the contractor they sent. Also, he was very unprofessional and rude. We didn't like him at all. I might have given that feedback to American Home Shield directly as well. I've still got open issues with them regarding the way that was handled. However, I can’t get a callback from management. They’ve promised me callbacks three or four different times and I've never gotten one.
I also have a current claim in progress on a pool heater. It's been unresolved for a little over a week since we're waiting on a part. The actual process of placing a claim was fine, but when the online form didn't give me the ability to give any description, I had to call back later over the phone to give them more details. The reps were professional. Overall, it's pretty easy and the techs have always been very good, except for that one time. American Home Shield is usually very good, but recently problematic.

I usually submit the claims online, and the process of which was easy. I go home from work to meet the contractors so I talk to all of them. About four years ago, I had to get the AC fixed and American Home Shield sent one of the two AC services they had at that time. The AC contractor said that before they could work on it, they had to bring it up to the City of Houston code. I told them, "I don't live in the City of Houston." They said, "Well we can't touch it unless you bring it up to code." It was an extra $5000 coming out of my pocket so I asked American Home Shield to send the other company that they recommended. The other AC contractor told me the same thing.
I got hold of somebody at American Home Shield and they said, "Well you can pick your own contractor and they can do the work and we will reimburse you." I called somebody else out and they said, "No. You do not have to meet the City of Houston code because you're not in the city of Houston. He fixed it and American Home Shield paid it. American Home Shield is good if you push them hard enough. My most recent claim was on the door opener to the garage. I was not happy with that one. We had a surge in December and it blew the circuit board. We called somebody out through American Home Shield. We have been a customer with AHS for a couple years. Last year our AC went out. Called and placed a service request, once a company showed up, they were very unprofessional. But our unit was repaired. Now it is out again, I placed a request on 5/24. Received a very unprofessional phone call for another company and was told someone will be out within 48 hours. I told the lady on the phone that I work and need a better time frame.
On 5/26 in the afternoon the repair man showed up, not professional and upfront said that he does not take credit cards or out of states checks. We were also quoted that we will need to pay upfront for 17 lbs of freon. I called the service center at AHS and was told we will have to wait for the contractor's parts request. My main concern is all the time we are using AHS, we encounter unprepared, unprofessional one man companies who have no customer service. And I am now looking at a 90+ degree holiday weekend.

She contacted AHS on 5/18 and the next day they sent someone out from Bencraft to assess the problem. It was determined that they needed a compressor. Bencraft contacted AHS and they ordered the compressor. 6 days later they were informed they ordered the wrong compressor. It's now been 9 days and the part is in at Bakers which is the distributor but they are now closed and closed early at that because it's Memorial Day weekend.
My mom was told by Bencraft that the earliest they can do anything will be Tuesday of next week or later. Their house is 95 degrees! We've called many times trying to get someone to help them because they are elderly and have many health issues and can't live in a house that hot. They also live on a fixed income from month to month and can't afford to stay in a hotel.
We're very dissatisfied with this company. They certainly don't hesitate to take my parents monthly premium out each month and they also had to give $125 upfront for someone to even come out but now no one seems to be in any hurry to fix their A/C. Please be very cautious when choosing a home warranty company because at the end of the day they only care about getting their money and not helping their customers in need.

I’ve been with American Home Shield for five years now. It was my brother in Alabama who told us about them. I recently submitted a claim for my garage door through their website. They sent me a text and the contractor got in touch with me. The electrician from Clear Horizon was great. He came in, diagnosed the issue and he’s been dead on. It got handled and I didn’t have to deal with it. The repair was perfect
On the other hand, about two years ago, the plumber from Hers and His Plumbing put a hole on my new house and then he talked about how to dig up my yard to fix it. That was a very bad experience with American Home Shield because even trying to complain was difficult. The plumbing company is not allowed in my house anymore and AHS needs to get rid of them. More and more contractors have no clue what they’re doing and people would never allow them in their house. I managed to fill the hole and the problem was resolved. Also, AHS needs to hire plumbers locally. The last time there was an issue, they had somebody coming from 40 miles away that nobody's ever heard of and our town has a lot of plumbers. AHS cannot handle that part of my contract well enough. It bugs me that warranty services contract with people that are never heard of and we're trusting them to come into our house.
There was also a claim for my AC when the air conditioning people told me that my AC is older, so it leaks freon. I had to wait until it leaks 80 pounds before the warranty service will kick in. That’s disturbing on a lot of levels. It's disturbing from an environmental standpoint and it's disturbing that it has to get to that point which means that I will spend $100 over when they had to put the freon in so if they have to do it again, I can count on the $75 plus the $100. They only put so much freon in and then I have to pay the remainder. Also, until the AC unit gets so bad that the unit has to be replaced. In addition, AHS doesn't do flooding and stuff.
I'd still recommend AHS. During the first year I had AHS, they put in a motherboard in the AC which in itself paid for my yearly warranty service payments so I can see it's cost-effective, that's why I stayed with them. In addition, my mother bought a house which was with another warranty company that's absolutely terrible. She had been with American Home Shield in the older house and so she’s coming back. The warranty service itself isn’t a bad idea but sometimes they’ll give you the cheapest repair or cheapest material possible so I’m always looking for that.
I would like to thank you for the thorough review and positive feedback. We will take your viewpoints into consideration, to ensure that you always have a good experience as a customer of AHS.

It's better go with local businesses. My A/C unit is broke, created a ticket 3 weeks ago. American Home Shield (AHS) sent a servicing company (poor Yelp and Google rated). They came twice for inspections. Now are waiting for the part to arrive and did not provide next service date yet. I have a 10 year warranty on my A/C unit and it's only 2 years old. Why are they buying it for me? They are suppose to contact the manufacturer and they will ship the part to my place (if I am not wrong) and these guys are suppose to come and fix it. No idea what's going on here and what is the purpose of my warranty - I have no clue.
I told them (AHS sent servicing company) there was some other company did a dye test and a part issue was identified in the attic blah blah. They didn't care and took their 2 rounds (each round a week apart) of checking, decided part's gone bad and now waiting for the part to arrive. The lady over the phone was rude and their charges are much higher (customer side co-pay) than other local companies. I can't go to someone else and waste more time so have to deal with it. My current status - still waiting and it's not going to be fixed during this week since it's a long weekend. Hours on the phone, back and forth. Never had such an experience with ANY other company.

I had a water heater in the attic that leaked down into the house and that included getting water in the electrical fixtures. It was on a weekend so they couldn't get a company right away. So they allowed me to contact a plumber on my own because I live more in the suburb rather than the city. When the repair company was there, I had to call in and get the okay for them to go ahead and proceed with the repairs. I had to pay for it upfront and then I submitted for reimbursement via postal mail. It all went very smoothly.
American Home Shield was the one who sent out the electrician at like an after-hour emergency because there was water involved with the electricity. He came out right away and cleared everything. And he was really nice and professional and did what he needed to do. Everything's fixed so I have no concerns at this time. I really liked that option of when they couldn't find a contractor for me, they allowed me to search and find my own. That worked out very well. I've been with them 3 years and I never had any issues.

I’ve had several claims with American Home Shield before and I’ve tried doing it online before but it didn’t capture my request. Calling it in is better because they were able to capture the items that needed to be done. The guy that they sent for my washer and dryer came to the house three times and three times he didn’t even do anything. Because now Sears took over for them they are more familiar with the product and they were able to diagnose the problem and was able to order parts to have it started and they have been here twice. A total of 5 visits for this claim and it has been going on for so long. It’s difficult and expensive because we’re taking our clothes to go and wash at the laundromat.
When I filed a claim last February, I asked AHS not to use the guys they sent for my washer and dryer. The gentleman that came out was not a regular in the area. I gave him several items on his list for him to do and he did it but two months later, the garbage disposal that he said he fixed was broken and we had to put a bucket under there because water was just draining. It had a bad leak and it wasn’t leaking anymore when the first guy was there.
I wasn’t able to use my kitchen for a few days because I found out on a Friday and I didn’t call American Home Shield because I thought they were closed on Saturdays and so I waited to call them on Monday. So I called them on Monday and then they sent the guy on Wednesday. But when he came out, he only had two things. The leaky faucet upstairs and something else but he didn’t have the garbage disposal on his list. Because he didn’t have it on his work order, he wasn’t able to do anything. So I had to call American Home Shield back and said, “What happened? That was my priority item. That was something that I really needed to take care of. How come it didn’t make it on their list?”
The girl that answered the phone was quite rude and I asked to speak to her supervisor. She said he’s not available. She said she can’t do anything. She would have to issue a new order. And with that new order, because it's past the recall period, I have to pay $75. So I agreed and told her that the technician is here. I need this taken care of because I don’t want it to continue to leak and I want to be able to use my kitchen so I went ahead and wrote him a check. The guy came back and in did his work and he’s done. I asked about the pipe downstairs and he said I need to call in another order.
So I had to place another call and they were going to charge me another $75 to come back out. I was furious at that time so I called American Home Shield back and luckily, I explained to another person, Ross, and I explained to Ross that I don’t feel like I should be charged because I was just charged yesterday. So he said, “Okay, we’ll waive that.” So when they came out for the faucet, I wasn’t able to be there. My husband was. They cut a hole in the wall and cut a hole in the ceiling.
They reported to American Home Shield that they didn’t see any leak. All he did is he went and flushed the toilet and that’s it. He wrote in his report that he flushed the toilet, that he filled the water, and the tub and he didn’t see any leak. My husband said, that that’s not true. He said that he flushed the toilet, he looked at our things, there’s no leak, and that was it. He said he’s going to report whatever his findings are to American Home Shield. He didn’t even recommend for us to caulk the bathtub. He didn’t even address the molds and water damage.
So I called American Home Shield back. Fortunately, Jaqueline, the person that I got was very nice and she understands so she was able to get a recall for the technician. She read his comments that it wasn’t leaking and wanted to know whether that was accurate and I told her, that it wasn’t. So she reached out to the company that came out the day before and she asked them to come back to take a look at it again. That was a good experience with her. She was really sweet and I hope the next time I call American Home Shield, I hope I get her.
It’s not American Home Shield’s fault. They’re the ones that send the service people. I wouldn’t fault them because the trade people that they send should be experts in it, but it’s taking those experts such a long time to resolve our claims. It felt like it was a comedy, lots of back and forth. So a small item that I reported back in February could have been resolved but wasn’t and it turned into a bigger item because now we have mold that’s growing and then my furniture, my carpet, my area rug, everything is damaged. Since AHS does not cover mold, the insurance adjuster is coming on Monday to take a look at it and it's going to cost me so much more. But I'm still in good spirits.

The home warranty scam is just that, a scam. You pay for a monthly subscription based on your deductible. When you call for service, it is a cat and mouse game to actually get a provider of the warranty company's choosing to come out to address the service request. After multiple visits, the provider that comes out advises that the item being serviced should be replaced. The warranty company decides that their "approved" provider's recommendation requires a second opinion. You do the dance for over a month, and in this case you still do not have a functioning air conditioning unit. You call to complain, and their only resolution is to schedule a second opinion, thus delaying the repair needed. THEN you call to cancel, and they have the nerve to want to charge you a cancellation fee and show no remorse for the awful experience their company provides. Avoid this company at all costs!
I would like to speak with you in an effort top resolve your AC issues.
Thank you,

We had a plumber come to fix two toilets, and he said that one is leaking (it wasn't leaking before) and it's an easy fix and everything is covered through insurance. Well 45 min. later he says everything has to be replaced. We'll have to pay for it and the toilet can't be used although it was working before (just flushing slow). I asked him what had changed and why it couldn't be fixed now like he said earlier. He started yelling, got extremely furious and my roommate had to jump in! Unbelievable! I've never had anyone yell at me before for asking a question in a calm manner (I'm a cute young blond and I'm super quiet, no need to yell at me and give me "I will kill you eyes!"). Deff go with American Home Shield if you want some Middle Eastern dude yelling at you and ending up having to pay for something that was supposedly covered! Good luck!
After reading your review, I would like to expand my apologies and hopefully resolve the situation at hand.
Thank you,

The absolute worst company to deal with. They take your money monthly making you feel comfortable if ever a problem. Beware if you have a problem! I have not had any air conditioning in my home for over a month. We have 3 zones and all 3 compressors need to be replaced. We have been going back and forth now for 5 weeks getting nowhere while my family are sweating in 90 degree weather. Every representative gives us different information.
They say they will call you back and never do. The service man condemned all 3 units but they are telling us differently so they don't pay us. They want to pay us up to $600.00 for $20,000 worth of labor and equipment. They state that the other 2 units just needs to be filled up with Freon at $100 a pound when we have major leaks in all 3 units. I wish I read all these negative reviews on a company which is a complete scam. They don't even deserve one star. Do yourself a favor and don't use this company. There are other reputable companies to choose from.
Hi Lisa. I can understand how frustrating to have multiple units not functioning. a social media specialist will follow up with you as soon as possible. Thanks.
