In 2004 my husband and I bought a double-wide from Clayton and had it set up on the land my husband owned. My husband had a few other loans and asked the salesman at Clayton if they would be able to consolidate the loans with the mortgage loan and he said they could. My husband specially told them that it was the only way we could buy the home. They still insisted that it could be done. So we went ahead and purchased the home.

After they came out and set the home up, we were told they couldn't consolidate after all. This put us in a financial bind and we ultimately loss the place to foreclosure. Including the almost 9 acres my husband owned free and clear beforehand.

Ok I'm going to get up on my "Do the right thing and take responsibility if you make a mistake" Box. As you all know my home burned four years ago and I replaced it with a mobile home. Not just any mobile home but one that I had built from the factory and paid extra for upgrades to appliances and sinks and faucets, plywood floors and 2x6 walls, ceiling fans installed, etc. I even had the cable lines ran so I didn't have holes drilled in my floors or walls. Well, thanks to the good ears of a friend, she heard the constant drip of water and after further investigation we found that my hot water supply line to the master tub had began to leak then spray. All this is taking place under my tub which is closed in and not visible. Ok, so here goes the problem that I have with this whole thing. I understand leaks happen and I was blessed to have found it pretty soon BUT - what caused the problem is what has me chapped.

When they built my trailer they sat and fastened the wall in top of my hot water line and supply line. The normal shifting of the trailer rubbed a hole in the supply line, this was not good because you could not just put on a new supply line because the wall is sitting on the connection. Had to go without water for 4 days and then get a plumber to come out and fix. Thank you Joe ** for coming so fast and taking care of it. I called the place I bought my home (Luvs Homes in Bryant) and just wanted them to take help me get in touch with someone who could tell me exactly how I was to fix this (schematics of water lines) so I would know where to start looking for a solution. They said since I didn't buy the extended warranty then they could not help me. REALLY? I finally (about 8 phones calls, later wore them down) and got a phone number to the factory that built my home. It is located in Tennessee. I spoke to a girl there who said the service manager was on vacation and she would have him call me Monday, MONDAY, REALLY? I am livid by now as you can imagine.

I called her 4 more times and got her to have quality control to call me. Well, they didn't in a reasonable amount of time. So I called back and she finally found me the layout of my trailer which might've helped some if I built trailers for a living.OH MY GOSH! But at least she did try. Well quality control called me late yesterday afternoon and he said that accidents happens but he didn't see where it was their fault. REALLY? Wrong answer? I told him that 3 people caused this, the guy that laid the water lines down before the walls went up, the guy who set the wall on top of those lines but mostly it was quality control idiot who dropped the ball, they checked the work over and said HECK YEAH looks good boys send it out. (Yes it was visible from above the floor) before they put in the tub. I told him he had to be kidding me if he didn't think this was their fault and then told him I would be reporting this incident and their response to the BBB. And that the internet goes nationwide and I would be putting it on the complaint website for Clayton Homes.

Okay so now I've vented and I thank ya'll for listening. If you have any kind of construction done be diligent and look everywhere especially those places that may not be highly visible. I was blessed it messed up some of the insulation under my home and a little bit of the sheetrock under the tub and my charming personality for about 4 days just glad I was home, could've been a lot worse. The cost was fairly low $80.00 to fix but should've never happened.

After reading all the reviews on Clayton Homes, I was scared, really scared to buy one. I prayed so hard. My husband & I decided to go ahead with it anyways, so we bought a new one. After they got it set up, my husband took his vacation to help me with everything because I am disabled. Well the electric & sewage wasn't done during that week so we had to stay with our daughter. He was a over-the-road Truck Driver & had to return to work that Monday. He said, "Now watch, honey. The electric & all will get turned on today." So that morning off to work he went.

Sure enough they were out here when I got here, turning on the electric & doing the sewage & water. I sent him a message telling him. Later I got a call from him telling me a ambulance was coming; they think he was having a heart attack. He passed away on the phone. My world went into a spin. No words to describe what I went through & still am. Everyone was telling me Clayton wouldn't fix the things that needed fixed & fear set in again, because of these reviews. My family & friends told me not to pay if off until after they fixed it. However, I did anyways. Paid it in full... Clayton has honored everything they said they would do & more. They have been so good to me. I will be forever grateful for all that Clayton has done for me... & I love the Home. The Last Home my Husband can ever buy me. Makes it more special now. Thanks to all the Clayton Workers... God Bless.

When we bought our single wide in 2007. It was a 2006 model. Set up looked like it should, everything in place. The problems started as soon as the utilities were turned on. 3 days after the water was turned on, we noticed a large bubble forming in the plastic under the house. Went under there and it was water that was filling it up, a pipe had come loose. Called Clayton Homes and they said to turn water off at the main and they will send somebody out. 2 days without water and they came and fixed it and we had to leave it open so the insulation could dry out. A year and a half later the walls in the kitchen and bath on the other side of the wall started to bow. When the fridge was hooked up the guy ran over the hose when he pushed it back. So water had leaked all that time getting absorbed in the walls.

Had to call Clayton and the guys came and had to change all the walls in the kitchen and bath. Had to use a different color (ugly green) because there wasn't any of our color. But aside of all the little things that were wrong, the biggest was the outside heater/air unit. When they set it up, it was on the wrong side of house so they had to move it. They laid the duct on the ground. After 6 years of pulling in the moisture our house smelled like mold and mildew. Nose burned, eyes watered, lungs hurt, had skin rashes. Called Clayton and nothing happened. So we replaced the duct, I am on allergy shots for 5 years and we are both taking allergy meds. We bought a new indoor furnace/air unit and got rid of the outside unit so we are not breathing humid, pollen filled outside air and the house is getting cleared of the mold smell. This is Florida! Heat and air units should not be outside!!

I bought my house in March of 2013 and that's when the experience started. It took approximately 3 months before I could even move everything in. I had issues with windows, ceiling panels, a wall was not square and it had to be rigged to look right. Since then, I have called about issues to the store and never get calls back. I contacted corporate on 05/12/2014, because I have not gotten any of my calls returned. I advised them that all of the ceiling panels on the back side of my house are beginning to sag. My carpet is getting big black rings showing up that wont even scrub out and my bathroom has mold on the wall by the bath tub. They had a technician come out and I was pretty much told that the sag in the ceiling is with in standards which I know better from being in construction for over 15 years. I am very unhappy with this house and I think it is very unprofessional that Clayton Homes is not wanting to make this right. Now I am stuck with a house that I have to pay another 14 years for that probably will fall apart in 5.

I got my Clayton double wide 2009 and have had trouble from day one. My tubs were not sealed and the showers were leaking water behind the walls. Now my floors in the kitchen and bath are sagging. I never thought the home buying process would be so bad. I bought my home at Luv homes in Grason KY and wish I would have walked away. When they prepped the land for the home they dug too far down.

My mother and father recently bought a Express home from Clayton in December of 2013. We are not still in home. We go out to visit because the manager does not call to let us know the progress. We went out recently to look in the windows and notice that the house we purchased was not the home we were seeing. The island that's in the kitchen was almost in the living area. The sliding glass door does not reach the wall or locks. Water is under the house breeding mole and other creatures. My parents are older and I was taken advantage of. They tore up the land with the cranes and machines that they say they're not responsible for. And to make things worst the house does not have heat. We will have to purchase that, which I thought that was against the law. Bottom line, the house is much smaller than they sign for and does not look up to anyone's standard...

I purchased a home in 1999 and found out that the home was built with inferior materials in the ceilings inside that caused the ceilings to bow and look like waves in the ocean. This was confirmed by the building supervisor and the repairmen who came out to inspect. I was told that they knew the materials were not up to code and the home was only to be a demo for a sales lot. When we purchased the home called the dream home we were told that the home on display would not be the home we received, so I copied the serial number of the display home down to check for myself when home was put on our property. I discovered that the home delivered was in fact the display home from the lot and when confronted with this the lot where purchased told us we were stuck with this home and there was nothing we could do about it.

We contacted Clayton Homes where it was built and inspector was sent and agreed with us but refused to replace the home and that to fix the home would not be possible and we were told we could sue or we could accept 6500 dollars to keep our mouth shut or we could just let the home be foreclosed on. We had no choice but to keep the home, what a mistake we made, because we found out the home was flooded by the installers from Clayton and the carpet was removed and dried and reinstalled. Now there is mold under and inside the walls we have been living with all these years. IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO? WE HAVE OVER 100,000 IN THIS HOME AND STILL OWE OVER 50,000 OF A 60,000 loan. WHAT CAN WE DO?

CLAYTON HOMES, has bad manufacturing that they and the owners and president of the company cares nothing about... Sales is all that matters to them... I complained to management about leaks around my windows and they put makeshift gutter covers on my front gutters. They didn't care to really fix the real problem which is the roof and screws, nails and staples left. They did not fix any true reason why it rains in my window. They left so many mistakes that caused my house to leak there and other places. They made so many manufacturing mistakes and don't fix them all or fix them right. Warped walls, glue on walls, floors and ceilings. Holes miscut in floors that let in mice and other pest. Miscut carpets and then mend them wrong. The people that set them up don't do their jobs right that cause more problems with these things to get worse and other problems to arise by themselves.

From day one...in Oct. 2006...there has been nothing but trouble. I take good care of my home - still smells brand new - but nothing I do helps. The tub in the small bathroom started sinking within a few months... to the point it finally cracked in less than a year. Glue from walls, and everything else that was glued, wiped on walls and surfaces. Walls pulling apart... carpet has never been stable... trim work left unfinished. Nothing level, nothing square... just extremely poor quality. Because of this house, I will never buy another home from anyone. Because of this house, I'll never be able to sell... No one in their right mind would buy it. If I were to sell it, I wouldn't get nowhere near what I even owe - much less what I paid.

I tell whoever is in the market to buy, to stay away from Clayton. This has been the worst decision...and I'm married to it for another 20 years. The home has already had to be re-leveled...and it sits on concrete. I'll have to replace my home... I don't see it lasting another five years... and I'll still be paying for it. Even when the people came after it was set, they didn't fix what was wrong; water leaks, twisted duct work... they only made a shoddy attempt. I have a well used, 12-yr-old tent that is more structurally sound.

We purchased our Clayton DW in 2008. The carpet is and has been for quite a while buckling up and looks as if it is 10-20 years old. Also, the screws in the flooring is coming loose and the floor squeaks when walked on. I agree these homes are quite expensive for the things that come with the home to not last any longer than they do. It is just my husband and me with very little other traffic. I love my home, but wish I didn't have to replace the carpet so soon.

My husband and I purchased a 2013 Giles double wide from Clayton Homes. It all started on the delivery, they had to get it off the lot by a certain date and we found out they pulled into a truck stop for two days so they could get paid! Then when delivering the home, they dropped half of the double wide the tongue came off and it hit the black top! There was a lot of cosmetic damage to the home and they came in and half fixed a few things but we still have a lot of issues out of it! All the flooring is bubbling up and the trim is off everywhere! We had three pages of things wrong that they refuse to fix! Not to mention we ordered all the doorways to be handicap doors because I take care of my aunt that's confined to a wheel chair and when we got the home there is three doorways she can't fit through, one being her escape route in case of a fire! We have gave them plenty of opportunities to fix things and make it good but still haven't got anywhere! I guess my next step I'm gonna hire a lawyer and make them replace this hunk of junk! We paid $95,000 for it. You would think it wouldn't have so many issues! When they dropped it, they should have replaced it then!!!!!

My wife and I bought a home from Clayton homes of South Boston, Va in July of 2013. We put a substantial down payment on the home that cannot be found by looking at the final figures to this day. When we question the manager at the closing, at that time he show us the figures, but we haven't seen those figures since. For some reason we didn't get that set of papers. The guy that notarized the papers wouldn't go over the papers with us, he refused. The home was discounted $16,000, but it doesn't show in the final figures. When we would call the office manager he was never there and wouldn't return our calls.. We thought something was wrong when we closed before they started working on setting up the home. Everything they said was included in the set up we had to pay again over and above our down payment. It came to an extra $6000.

Clayton's setup people cut an addition 1/2 acre of timber, which belongs to us without our permission and charged us for it. The lot was already cleared. They cut an extra driveway we didn't want or need, and they also took our timber with them. They charged us for digging a well that was inclusive, plus we had to pay the set up guy again also. We already had a well on the lot, so why did we have to pay for it again. They left all their trash and stuff left from the setup on the property. The manager kept asking for money from us for all his workers until I threaten to call HUD. Everything in the home along with the decor was promised to us but someone took a set of dishes before we moved in. Clayton haven't replaced them yet.

All the door knobs are bad, they have replaced most of them. We have a large picture window in the kitchen that is bad. They have been ordering it for 6 mos and nothing yet. The carpet looks as though it is 10 yrs old. The molding in the ceiling is cracking and doesn't line up with the corners. The plaster is coming out the ceiling, look like it may fall at any time. The floors creak when you walk on them. This was the worst experience I have ever had to deal with in buying a home. It was like a nightmare you could not wake from.

I am a disable veteran and when Clayton saw my bank account, they set out to get every dime. We were on to their deceptive dealings, but the manager wouldn't stop or give us credit for the money we'd paid. We did not want to lose our down payment, land (which belong to us), or the house, if we pull out of the contract. They do not refund your money.

We purchased our home in 2013 and have had it for 1 year. We have had a very good response to anything that needed to be fixed. All in all we are very pleased with our home. I wish we had been given the option for wood cabinets and upgraded bathroom fixtures but we can live and replace these things. We are having a problem with the kitchen floor raided in a couple of places and screw heads showing through but I have been assured that these will not cause the linoleum to wear through and I have an open complaint if they do wear through. The one thing that bothers me the most is the carpet. We upgraded but this is the cheapest carpet ever. After one year it looks like it has been down 10 years. If we stay here we will have to replace. Other than the carpet we are happy with our home

In October 2006 I bought a manufactured home from a retailer in Virginia known as Wamplers Homes. My home is a Clayton Manufactured home and was built in Tennessee. After being in the home for about a year I started having issues where the walls started showing cracks, the molding was showing cracks, the heating system was not working properly. I continually tried reaching Wampler Homes to no avail. They said they would come out and fix the issues, but never did. They also told me Clayton homes wouldn't help me out. Now I find out they have closed.

My home is going on seven years old and I am continuing to have problems. I have had to install a new heating system, replace the bathroom flooring, plumbing issues, get a new refrigerator. The stove is not set even with the counter. The kitchen cabinet drawers are continually breaking. The sliding glass door screen has broken, and I have issues the glass door. The back screen door is broken. The kitchen tiles are starting to come up off of the floor. The Bay Windows are showing signs of cold air coming through them. Now the latest issue is I am finding that the roof is leaking as I see spots on my ceiling.

I feel this is not acceptable for a home that is ONLY 7 years old. I paid over $121k for this home and didn't expect to be putting this much money into it sevens years into owning it. The home came with appliances, etc.. I can't contact the retailer I bought it from since they are closed and I can't find where to contact Clayton homes as there are no numbers on my sales papers, just the retailer's contact numbers. I am so frustrated and stressed at everything that has gone wrong with this home. I am not sure if you can help or guide me as to what I should or can do next.

Now "lived" in this piece of crap for 2 years. Clayton acted as general contractor as we wanted a basement under our double wide. CLAYTON hired a contractor almost 300 miles away who screwed everything up including septic system. Now our sewage runs through a big tube into the backyard. Smells really good in the summer. Our contractor, CHAD ** of BONNE TERRE MO, his wife, GENNY ** and employee WALTER also stole nearly $10k, wrote numerous bad checks throughout Southwestern Missouri and never finished the work. He also has a heck of an anger problem and nearly attacked a friend who was at the site helping me. Later, I found that he was a CONVICTED FELON. Really, Clayton??? We had to have it locally done so it cost us twice. Letter writing campaigns to WARREN BUFFET whose company BERKSHIRE HATHAWAY owns CLAYTON HOMES made some headway, but nothing was done. Buyer beware. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH EITHER CLAYTON HOMES OR CHAD AND GENNY **. You have been warned.

I did my walk-thru and when I pointed out things wrong, he never came back to fix them. Then a window leaked water. The double paned windows, black mold in every window in the house and now the back bedroom where furniture was up against the wall, black mold, all the closets black mold. Carpet started turning black, thought it was stain. Cut it, the cold air from outside was blowing underneath and there was black mold under it. Insurance says it won't cover it. I still owe $20,000. They said said the whole thing will have to be gutted. The carpet helps conceal that where the flooring and walls meet or not sealed. That's why the condensation build up and all the mold. I talked to another insurance agent in the same building where I work and they have had numerous complaints of people having black mold because Clayton also doesn't have proper ventilation. I've owned my trailer for 7 yrs and it's just been falling apart all around us, cabinets doors, now this. Never again. BUYER BEWARE.

I know any problem can be fixed, either they don't know how to repair the problem or they just won't repair the problem. My home is barely 6 months old. I had it customized and it came to me straight out of the packaging. From day 1 (the walk-through), there were obvious problems which I think Clayton just assumed wouldn't be a "big deal to me". Most of these problems still have not been fixed. Repairmen cancel ALL THE TIME and when they do come out to fix a specific problem, they do not have the correct equipment, etc... and will tell me they will be back. The repairmen call and cancel appointments all the time. PROBLEMS FROM DAY 1: missing trim work, 2" gaps from doors to floor, the connection trim that joins the 2 sides of the house, the skylights have faulty wiring, warped vinyl siding, broken front door latch, foundation cracks everywhere, nails and staples exposed everywhere, window trim has gaps where trim joins one another, refrigerator had door flaps (butter storage place) missing.

Other problems that have arisen since purchase (and seriously new problems arise EVERY DAY): ALL the cabinets are peeling and have 'bubbling' (I was told I should have upgraded to the REAL wood cabinets. At the time of purchase this was not offered to me). My kitchen cabinets have warped, bubbled. The countertops are coming apart thus exposing the cork (the home is 6 months old and already there is a work order in to replace my kitchen countertops). And I don't know why but none of the interior of my closets are painted. I WILL PURSUE A CIVIL SUIT WITH ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO JOIN ME. I am disgusted. I am sent a tin of cookies on a monthly basis by Clayton Homes! I guess that is their way of trying to keep me satisfied and not report them! Ha-Ha! Wallpaper is wrinkled. Debris under the flooring - factory didn't even sweep the floor before laying rugs/floors. Cheap, cheap material - plastic faucets that leak, fridge makes humming noise, stove is just cheap period. I have gone through all the proper channels. The Maine Manufactured Housing Board reps showed up WITH the seller and manufacturer for my inspection.

No, I never got to invite them independently! To AG's office, only to be told several months later, "Oh, you contacted Housing board, case closed - contact Governor's office. Contacted HUD in Maine. Can't do anything for you. Case closed (contact Wash DC HUD)." AND I am unable to find complaints against Titan. That is something I find very hard! This house was built in 2002. Me and my wife moved in in 2004. Throughout the years of small repairs and discovering how this place was put together. I am NOT impressed. But my biggest problem now. It started with a small waterfall inside my window seal on the inside of the house. Obviously my roof is leaking. I inspected the roof to see if I can find some damaged shingles but I didn't find any damage singles. But I did notice in multiple areas on the roof that was very spongy. I could probably put my foot through if I stepped hard on it. Then I noticed how wavy the roof is you can see where all the joists is. This roof is sagging in! Moisture is passing through the shingles into the plywood with its 1/2 OSB paneling that stuff is not load bearing. I can't believe they used it on the roof. Any moisture gets to OSB it will fall apart! Overall I need to spend a lot of money to do it right with plywood and something better than 10 year shingles. Clayton builds these homes with the cheapest material so they can make a big profit. Almost disposable homes they build I would like to think.

We purchased our brand new Clayton mobile home in 2000. Problems began quickly with very high heating bills, things falling apart almost daily, more electrical outlets do not work than those that do. Of course the dealer went out of business. The Clayton headquarters never got back to me once. So for years now I have fixed things as they occurred. This year I decided to go ahead and tear out the whole underside of the home down to the floor. Now I see why we have had so many problems. The wiring looks like Mickey Mouse did it, exposed wires, pitiful splicing, total junk throughout. The ductwork for the heat and air is worse, seams not sealed, mashed areas, gaps everywhere. I found empty beer and soda cans throughout the underbelly where the workers just tossed them down any hole that was open. Floor cut-outs were just allowed to drop into the belly. Now I see the Duck Dynasty guys have signed on. I wonder if they know how these homes are really built? I would like to get a class action suit going. We paid a lot of money for this piece of junk and by now I have basically rebuilt everything. Clayton homes are death traps.

We put a down payment down when we thought we had found the home we wanted but after much research turned out we decided to go with another builder. They were very ugly to us and told us they were not giving us our money back. Do not do any business with these people...

I purchased my home from Clayton Homes of Lancaster, SC in May 2012. Immediately upon walkthrough, the fire place was wrong and they never replaced so I had to paint it. The carpet was pulling away from the walls. After 3 visits, nothing. They never fixed the problem, so I had hardwood floors put in because the carpet looked like crap. The walls in the house are crooked and the sheet rock all through the house looks like crap with the joint tape pulling away, holes in the walls and nail pops everywhere. Well they made me an offer on the sheet rock for $1,300. I had three estimates with all 3 being in excess of $2,800-$3,200.

My cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms are chipping and you can see glue and staple marks all in the joints and side walls of the cabinets. Keep in mind, my cabinets are supposed to be a flat mocha color. Well they sent their yard guy Eric out. He brought some old English stain with a shine to it, poured it on an old shirt and wiped down all my cabinets. So now I have shiny and dull cabinets that completely look like crap.

There were two toilet drops and 3 sink drops never hooked up under my house. So for a year, sewage drained under my house. After sewage backed up into my showers, sinks and bathtubs, did they come out and fix a loose pipe? Not the problem, still backing up. So after several calls and a few more weeks of sewage draining under my house, they sent a plumber out. He did eventually get it fixed. He said it was a mess and sewage was standing on the low side under my house, a foot deep. He needed a pump truck to pump it out.

Last but not least, my yard looks like crap. I have no positive drainage and when it rains, my yard is a pond. Well they fired the original guy who did the clearing, septic tank and drain fill which is sinking. I can see my septic tank because the dirt around it has caved In. Well they got their new guy to come out and look at the yard. Well the gentleman stood in my yard and said it is destroyed and would cost them a lot of money to fix it. Not to mention all the money I have in grass and straw. Well after all that, I was told to file a consumer complaint with the state and haven't heard from them since.

Bad thing is I know of 5 more people with similar problems and no attempt by Clayton Homes of Lancaster, SC. Steve, who is the manager and was rude with my wife, hung up on her. Then there is Bob the salesman who is a yes man and never does what he said. Eric, the yard boy, who does not know what he is doing. So I would definitely not recommend them to even my worst enemy. You will get shafted. That is a fact. Oh and if you try to call corporate, they won't return your calls. But it's okay. If the state doesn't do the right thing, then I will hire an attorney and get a class action lawsuit going because I know for a fact there are many, many more out there that would be on board. Thanks for listening!

I bought an Oakwood Home in 2002, and put it in a manufactured park. But ever since the market crashed, I have been underwater and nothing to do about it. I found out that Clayton Homes would do a trade in on my home for a new home and some land. We went down there, did the credit check - of course it was with Vanderbilt mortgage whom I have been with for the last 10 years - and they denied me. They said my credit was not good enough, although they had a sign saying credit of 600, no problem. So they had another mortgage company we tried and I was approved for $210K, said my credit was awesome.

So we already had found some land and told them to see if I can get it. What the deal is that Clayton would buy the land, have my home as a trade-in, carry over the $20K I was underwater on, and put a module home on the land. In order for the land home package to be done, it had to appraise for what I was approved for - $200K. I called Clayton once a week to see how things were going. I got the runaround that we are working on it. After a month with no progress, I found out the property was sold underneath me. I told them and all they can say is it was their fault and they dropped the ball.

After them taking their sweet time, I decided to go out to palm harbor homes and do the same thing. It only took them 2 days to tell me they can't do it because I was too far underwater. Okay cool, at least you didn't wait a month to tell me. Well a month went by and we found some more property. So we decided to go back to Clayton Homes and try it once more. This time I told them we need to hurry because I don't want to lose this one. This time they were on the ball. They came by to my old home and took pictures and said things look good.

The whole time they told me things were looking good and it should push through. After he took pictures, they told me they will call in a couple of days. 3 days went by, no call. So I called them. They hee-hawed around and told me the answer was no. I said why? He said the short answer was that my space rent in the park was too high and they couldn't sell my home after they purchased it. So although I was already approved for the loan, they didn't want to do it as they couldn't sell the home after everything was said and done.

We bought our Clayton in 1995 brand new. We live in rural West Virginia and by the looks of the siding when home was delivered, I thought they had back roaded the home to the site. We did our walk through and noted the things that need to be replaced or repaired. We had 1 sheet of drywall that needed to be replaced due to leak from the siding. After being jerked around for a couple of months, we were told that Clayton no longer uses that drywall and they couldn't get it so it was never replaced. From our first walk through, we reported that at least half the windows were sticking and hard to open. The repairman came out and beat on the window frame with a hammer. This did not fix it.

The repairman said they would have to order new windows from Clayton. So I am thinking, okay at least this problem will be fixed. I have the repairman’s cell phone number. So I call him and he says that the work order has been turned in and they are waiting for the windows to come in. Well, in the amount of time that I was being jerked around, the warranty had expired but I am thinking this problem was reported before the warranty had expired so it will be fixed. I don’t have the patience to be jerked around too long, so I go to the dealer that sold us the home, I asked him how much longer do we have to wait for these windows to come in from Clayton. He said, “Let me check,” and walked out of the office.

He came back a few minutes later with a folder, started looking though the papers in the folder and said there was no complaint that was ever filed on the windows and no work order was ever turned in. He also told me that the warranty has expired and nothing could be done about the windows. After all the ** that I had to put up with from day 1 of buying this house, I had to walk out or this was going to get ugly. So document any work needed done and make sure you get copies of everything. My house is now paid off but the problems I am having now is the wiring on this house. My heater has quit on me more than once due to (in my opinion) the proper wires not being used to wire up the heater.

The wires coming from the breakers in the heating unit have fried 3 times in the past couple of years and what I find strange is the fact that there are 2 breakers in the heating unit and 2 breakers in the breaker box. It did not flip the breakers. They just melt the insulation off the wires and short out (which should flip a breaker but hasn't). Next, I have 2 lights in my kitchen. One of them started flickering so I took the fixture down. There were exposed wires in the fixture and they were shorting out. So after fixing the wiring, I replaced the 2 light fixtures and they work fine now (this is another thing that should have flipped the breakers in the breaker box and didn't). I think Mickey Mouse and friends did the wiring on this house.

I bought new 14x80 on the 1st of July 2012, paid for linoleum in the living room to replace the carpet and paid for skirting to be added after we moved to our home site. I had two weeks to do this work while we readied the site. When the mobile home arrived two weeks later, the mover backed into the dirt bank (we think) bending rear separator (holds frame rails together), but said it would not hurt anything. I opened the front door to find that carpet had not been replaced and noted that the first 12-14ft of vinyl siding on the front of the home had come loose and could not be re-zipped back into place. First, the wall panel in the guest bedroom had pulled loose directly behind the loose siding and/or behind the bedroom door. This all indicated a severe turn or twisting of the home during the move. At any rate, all this was brought to the attention of the seller.

After water was ran to the home, about a week later, I noted a pouch under the home that reached almost to the ground. I stuck a knife blade in it and out ran about three or four gallons of water. There must be a leak somewhere. I called the seller who sent a "crew" down the next day to fix the leak. The crew slit the black vinyl under the home, about 2x2 feet and commenced to look for a leak. He checked the water heater, guest bath, sink and commode, but could not find a leak. He said everything back toward the living room appeared dry. He sealed the 2x2 feet opening with white tape, did not look like the proper type of tape. The white tape attracted two of my dogs, who decided to inspect what was there for themselves, pulling the tape off, but it did give me a chance to note that there was still water leaking out the hole.

Now we have been waiting about three weeks for a "crew" to replace the bad vinyl siding and over a week for a "crew" to install skirting (already paid for), but I haven't seen or heard anything out of either party. There are other problems, which I sent a list of to the seller, but that is not the point. We've spent good money to bring this thing here and if it had been a car, it would definitely be on the lemon list and I might have some recourse. By the way, we have not moved into the home despite the fact that it's been on site for 27 days, today. I already paid a note and another will be due in a couple of weeks.

Whatever happened to American workmanship and workers' pride? I guess it went to China, along with all other money and values. Oh, I did write a letter to Clayton last week, but no one has bothered to respond despite their claim that someone would email or call within one to two days.

I would not recommend this place to any of my friends. We bought our mobile home from them just 6 months ago and the roof is leaking. Our ceiling is caving in from all of the water and is about to fall through. When the maintenance man came to look at it to make sure it actually was a leak, insinuating that we can't tell that it's a leak ourselves, he poked 2 holes in the ceiling with his finger. At that time I thought, "Great, now what if it rains again? It is going to drip into the carpet." He told me that someone would be by first thing the next morning to come and fix the roof to try to see if we can get the water to stop leaking in. I asked, "What if it's not reparable?" He replied, "Oh it's definitely reparable." So my question is if it's definitely repairable, then why are they trying to see if they can get it to stop leaking through?

So the next morning, my boyfriend stayed home from work (an inconvenience to him) so that he can be here when they come to fix the roof. We got awaken by a hard storm and the first thing I thought was "Oh crap, the ceiling." We ran to check it and just as we thought, it was dripping into the carpet. We first put a pot under it, but then it was dripping so much that the pot would have been full in no time so we had to take our trash can and put it under it. We sat here waiting for the people to show up to fix the roof. They were supposed to be here at 9AM. Then at about 8:45, they called us and said that they can't come today because of the rain. So we're sitting here having to deal with a leaking roof and ceiling until they decide that they want to come out and fix it.

When my boyfriend tried to call the office at Clayton Homes on Clinton highway, they will not answer the phone. We have the cell phone number of the guy who sold us the trailer and he will not answer the phone either. When I tried to call them to tell them about the problem in the first place, I called the guy 3 times. He didn't answer so I left a message. This was around 8:30AM and then around 11AM, I called back and he finally answered. He said he just now got my message 3 hours later. I had to call him back when after he got my message, he should have been the one to call me. The people here act like it's not their top priority to fix a problem when there is one. Their top priority here is just to sell the home then once it's sold, they don't care about you or what happens to the trailer.

We had some problems right after we bought it too. Our kitchen sink didn't work right. When you'd turn the handle, nothing came out. Sometimes it took ten minutes of sitting there with the handle on before anything would come out. Also when we bought the trailer, it didn't have deadbolt locks and we told them that we would like to have deadbolt locks put on. They said that was no problem. Well when they finally got the trailer ready for us to move into it, it still didn't have the deadbolt locks on it. So, they had to send someone out to do it. They had to put whole new doors on it and new doorknobs. The guys who were doing our new doors complained the whole time about how much they hate doing doorknobs and what a pain they are.

They literally complained the whole time. It was a hot day so I offered them something to drink and they had a specific request, Diet Mountain Dew. I didn't have Diet Mountain Dew so I offered them regular Mountain Dew or regular Coke or water. One said if I didn't have Diet Mountain Dew, he didn't want anything and the other took water. I don't know if they realize it or not, but my home is not a restaurant. I hope anyone thinking about buying a trailer from here will think twice before they do it.

We purchased our first "new" home in Feb 2007 and within months, had trouble with the windows holding moisture and mold forming around the window sills. I contacted the dealer where my home was purchased and was given the runaround and was told it is due to living in a damp area. After fighting with the manufacturer, I did receive new windows throughout the home. Soon after the windows were replaced, I noticed mold build up along the crease of where the wall meets the floor and the sheetrock was wet about 8 inches up from the floor. The manufacturer did send a crew to my home who replaced sheetrock but didn't fix the problem.

So now, after 7 yrs of having my home, I fight constantly with mold that causes my family severe allergy issues. Now my floor behind my stove is falling through from the moisture. It appears the issue is the overhang on the roof is not out far enough to stop water from leaking down the inside of the siding. After paying my monthly payment and utilities, I do not have the money to do major repairs. When I contacted the manufacturer the 3rd time, they told me I would have to turn it in on my homeowner's. I don't see how this is fair that I file a claim on my homeowner's which would raise my rates to fix a defective home when it was built. If these issues arose 7 yrs after having the home, it would be different but the problems started within the 1st year. This is definitely a manufacturer defect and is not the buyer's responsibility.

We bought a new manufactured home. We ordered many upgrades and specific changes which we paid the difference. We went over our upgrades and requests many weeks to make sure we all understood what was being ordered. Our home was delivered to the sales lot on April 18, 2012. We asked to be able to look it over before they delivered it to our location. We went to make sure the major changes were as ordered - they were not.

The salesperson called the plant, and the general manager of the plant met us to go over our concerns. We were told "that it doesn't come that way" and we said that is not what the model showed and that was our only sample. When we asked to see an upgrade that was offered, there was none to be seen anywhere. So we took their word that it would be what we wanted. We were asked to pay more money to have the changes made and we refused because we were not told that it would be any extra at the time it was ordered.

Since the home has been delivered to our location, we have found more problems in electrical work. The air conditioner does not work, the plumbing was not correct, fireplace mantel is not installed correctly, and the wrong stove was delivered - we requested gas, and electric was installed. That means they had to break the seal under the home to run another line for gas. The microwave was damaged and their fix to that was to put a screw in it. The incorrect shower was installed. The furnace was not installed far enough back into the closet because the door does not close. There is not a main water shut off inside the house, which was an extra cost.

Corian was ordered at an additional cost of $8,000 and was not correctly installed. Some of the light fixtures do not work anything. We had to pay extra for shutters and did not get all of them. Now, we are told that they don't install any on that window but we did not get a refund. I talked again to the general manager today, 6/1/12, and he told me that it wasn't a million dollar home so that is the way it is! Really, safety is required for all homes, manufactured or not! We still haven't moved into the house and are waiting for the major things to be fixed. I am checking the box to not have an attorney, but we may want to have one if our home is not fixed correctly.

The Bryant A/C/H unit is a self contained unit(no outside unit). Everything is in the same metal enclosure, but separated, and the outdoor air coils have an air intake located under the home. There should have been a duct built with a screen or grille to channel the outside air to the outside air intake and to the coils. But there was none installed. They put a skirting on that just allowed air under the home. All the dirt, lint, pet hair and pollen in the air over time would plug up the outdoor air coils. The dirt plugged the drain on the outdoor air side which you can't see and it allowed water to spill out on the flow and warped the floor. The unit leans 3 inches at the top and at times it touches the wall and rattles.

I noticed that at times during the heat of the day, the temp in the living room and kitchen gets up to over 90 degrees. This is after I added 3 window units to help cool the crippled main unit. I bought an infrared temperature monitor and there are lot of places in the house where the ceiling and walls read the same temp as the outside air. There's very poor insulation.

Also the home has a metal roof that ripples when the wind blows and it vibrates the home. This has caused the insulation to settle. I doubt if there is any insulation in places. There's no way the main unit if it was in good working order would cool the house. This is also a problem in the winter, the house is so cold. With no insulation in places, the ceiling and walls read what the outside air reads.

One of the first things they told me when I was looking at homes, is they use marine plywood or equivalent wherever there is water, such as toilet, sink, tub, dishwasher and cloths washer. Well after 13 years, the seal went out on the dishwasher. It soaked the kitchen floor from the stove to the refrigerator.

These are not warranty issues. They are defects caused by poor design and installation. My wife and I have suffered long enough. Please help us asap.

The holes were never sealed around all the pipes under the mobile, this took several repair orders and distress on my family, the mice basically took over the home. The heating unit went out after 2 months, which was repaired. All of the cabinets were pilling after a few months. The drywall, 3/8 in was cracking throughout the house, the bathroom wall has mold on it, the roofing was loose shingles, the siding started coming off, the doors do not seal, the back door holds water and is rusting, the laminate flooring is coming up, the over all poor quality makes this mobile home a no go.

Multiple reapair calls were made and multiple men were sent out to do a half crap job. Frankly, these mobile homes are junk. They won't even last a year, regardless of how clean and careful you are, the mobile will fall apart inless than a year. When you call, it takes weeks on end to get a response and the time lapse causes the 1 year warranty to end. They use the cheapest and the worst workmanship I've ever seen. Basically, I just would hate to see others watse so much money and time on a Clayton Mobile Home. It's basically my loss for not doing proper research on the company and it's product. It's my loss for not noticing that they never put the underlayment and did not seal the openings around water pipes, furnance ducts, etc. properly.

I have had nothing but problems with the mobile from day 1 and when they come out to repair something, they only do part of the repairs or only do a quick fix and have to come out more than 3 times for the same issue. It's really pathetic how horrible the mobile homes are by Clayton Homes. They should be ashamed for selling crap to people and pishing the buck to others and not repairing faulty items properly. Their rep came and took pictures, and told me that it was a manufacturing error and he would contact the national office. This was in August of 2009. After months of calling and getting the runaround, I was put in contact with Mr. ** at the national office.

In February of 2010, he sent a crew to fix the damage. They replaced siding and installed a drip guard which had never been installed, which is where the problem originated. In replacing the siding, the contractors tried to cover over rotting wood with the new siding, and only replaced the wood when they were caught in the act.

As of now, July of 2010, large hunks of the replaced siding have come loose, and no one will return my calls. It took from February of 2010 until April of 2010 for someone to come and replace the damaged (moldy) sheet rock, and this was a half-done attempt. While replacing the sheet rock, they reported several electrical shorts to me, which of course they could not fix, but would report to the national office. So now I'm in slightly better shape, but still, much needs to be done, and nobody will return my calls. However, Vanderbilt Mortgage has increased the cost of my monthly notes! Our designed home, 50 X 32 feet had to have two feet taken off the end to fit the 60 x 100 foot lot and leave the required easements as we wanted it place long side to road for a nice home curb appeal. (As it turned out-Mr.Ward miscalculated by leaving out the eave's overhang and therefore caused a 60 day delay in moving in time). Throuhgout the process, my son and I were extremely clear about what we wanted, that if the home was in ground, there was no need for a deck or steps but if it was above ground, we wanted the steps (as designed and presented and a deck as presented) to be included in our loan with the home. Also, I wanted doors replaced that had no mental vents on them, a frosted master bath window in lieu of the clear, linen closet in master bath, 42" screen television above fireplace, french doors in master and second bedroom, door between second bedroom and bathroom. We were on a deadline as I am a school teacher and needed to have it ready to move in by the beginning of school, which never happened. My son and I both would telephone and leave messages for either Gene Hall or Steven Ward and never receive return messages, regarding our requests or concerns, so in a week to week and a half, either of us would physically drive to the lot at Clayton Homes and personally discuss our message. They (Mr.Ward/Mr.Hall, one or both) would assure us that something is being done/would be done. Another week or two passes. My son and I began signing in in the Clayton Home visitor registry book at the door with the date, our name, list of our concerns that was bringing us in. After a month, they tore out those pages from the book so others could not read about the problems we were experiencing with them. We expected to meet and sign with Mr.Ward for our loan with Vanderbilt Mortgage, but Mr.Hall was there alone. We were at that point under duress, between a rock and a hard place, as our old home was moved out (204 miles away) and we were homeless in the middle of summer in Las Vegas! Mr.Hall said he did not know about the deck we wanted nor steps, and the grass left uncleared on the "prepared lot" would just die and go away. "If you(we) didn't want the house, fine, we won't sign the papers today." We objected about the deck that somehow Mr.Ward neglected to put in to our loan and final papers, that we did not (after several attempts to get any paperwork about our new home via telephone call or in person up to that time) ever plan to NOT have them if the house was above ground level.
This constitutes deceit and fraud on the part of both Mr. Ward and Mr. Hall. After signing the loan documents in July, the home arrived at the Clayton Homes lot, upon which my son and I and Steven Ward did open and inspect, finding several cabinet and drywall problems, and exterior and interior paint overspray issues. Mr. Ward assured us these things "would be fixed before us moving in." They were not, and are still not, today, October 30th, 2009! The manufactured home was moved onto the 5526 E. Carey Avenue cleared property in August and sat for well over a month with nothing done. I returned from my stay in Northern Nevada to find that I had to rent a hotel room to live with the dog. After a few weeks and running out of money doing that, my next door neighbor asked me to stay until I could move into the new home. So, daily, I go to work, come back, nothing done. Mid September, I find out that I must contact and get a conditional use waiver signed by my adjoining neighbors because Mr.Ward did not take into considerations the code when altering the house to fit the lot. More waiting. Then the contractors that did the water line, pulled out my good copper water line and replaced it with a plastic one (which now leaks), which I requested be put back in or saved. They threw it into the yard and then someone stole it. The older home's outside stairs were stolen as well. I did make a police report per Mr.Hall's request, which later he asked me to lie to the insurance company to make the claim (in front of Mr.Ward). On November 1, 2008, we got a key to go in and out of the home, and was assured a walk through. The front door was defective. None of the keys provided to us worked on all the doors except one. So we bought new ones for all the doors at our expense. There was damages done inside the home prior to obtaining the key: workers threw around coils of electrical wiring and scratched the new kitchen counter, dryer, electrical panel plate and drywall. Colossial drywall cracks lined walls in several rooms, gashes in drywall from careless workers/workmanship, bumps under carpet, crack on new shower side and bottom, paint and glue overspray on walls, appliances, windows, fixtures, doors, throughout the home. We did not get our concrete front steps until after February 2009! We still have no concrete steps for the back patio, laundry, second bedroom, nor master bedrooms! NONE, just makeshift wooden temporary steps, not meant to last a year, let alone 30 years. Work yet to be done-the deck/steps, the replacement of the backdoor, front bedroom windows, trash removal of materials left by lot prep people (yes, it is still there in the same pile for a year now), refrigerator ice maker never worked (I have contacted GE). Upon the old home being moved out in July 2008, the company Clayton Homes contracted to prepare the lot, did not abate grass where the new home was to be placed--I have an ongoing issue with grass growing under this new home now. I have written and called and told them and have simply given up and tried to spray them although I have two bad knees.

We purchased our home in March 21, 2009. We settled in on June 18, 2009. Our home was delivered on June 25, 2009. We moved in on July 10, 2009. It was not what we ordered. We had to contact Atty. General’s Office, BBB and the news media in order to get things repaired. It still needs repairs done. The bathroom cannot be fixed and the ceiling fan cannot be put in. It’s too late now, per Clayton Homes. Now, we just received a letter from Fleetwood Homes of PA that they filed for bankruptcy and will not cover any warranties that came with the home.

Where do I start? Okay, let's talk about the lying, deceptive way that the people who work in this company do business. I owned a standard home for 10 years and sold it to move for my job. I rented for 4 years and was tired of giving people my money. Based on my credit, a modular home was the purchase that best fit my budget so I can repair my credit and move on. I called the folks at Clayton Homes first and made sure my credit was good enough to purchase a home. FHA gave us a cap and we were able to go shopping. We walked through 3 doubles. With a 17 and a 15 year old plus a dog, we wanted the 24x70, which we could not afford. We were able to get a 24x56, which we could work with.

We did the initial paperwork and paid off any FHA required collections on my credit. I borrowed $5,000 from my 401 K plan which was given as a down payment to get the deal rolling. We could not afford what they call a glamour bathroom, which was on the floor model we looked at. So, we agreed to a fixed shower stall and a window since we don't like baths and could live with this. We could not get a few other small items IE: microwave over the range, vertical blinds, etc. But the salesman told us that the rest of the home, as we looked at it, was what we would get (everything). The papers were drawn up, signed and we began this disaster in motion. Here is a list of events that happened.

Original salesman fired, so they brought a "ringer" into the deal who began to give us the ** story that the salesman was fired for not knowing what he was doing, and that she was brought in to fix it, yeah right! She promised us an AC unit and a storage shed not originally in the deal. I asked, specifically, about the type of bathroom that the master bedroom would get. And she told me that what was negotiated was what we were getting. I asked if she was sure and she told me she reviewed the "plans" and yes she was sure. We asked about the date to get in and we figured the end of June '09 (this meeting was in May 09).

A couple of days later, we got the first call that we call the "I am changing my mind" events. No shed now, AC is okay. (With formaldehyde in carpets and the summers time coming, could safety reason be why A/C was kept in the deal?) They told me no, but now they were lying and I can't trust what they were saying. This should have been a red flag, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt.

Closing day: I went to sign papers against my wife's counsel, since I was signing for something that I have not seen yet. I wrote a group of questions and asked (the second time) about the master bathroom, because I wasn't signing anything unless I was assured that the bathroom was what I was getting. She assured me that we were, and I reluctantly signed the closing paperwork.

The house is on the wonderful corner lot in our park, and I was taking pictures, excited about the prospect of moving into our new home. I was looking through windows, and happened to be able to see through the master bedroom window, and guess what I saw? The same standard bathroom that is in the hallway that our kids and guest would use. So, I immediately called Clayton to tell them, and since we did not have a "certificate of occupancy", we would have to wait till the walk through for them to check the bathroom and write up the findings on the "inspection sheet".

Walk through day: in a nutshell, there was no ceiling fan as in the pictures I have taken of the floor model we were shown. There was no chandelier. There were no clothes rack in the washer and dryer area, and no bathroom. Plus, the driveway outside was destroyed when the footings were poured. My wife was furious. Then, Clayton homes said that the paperwork that we signed did not have these things written down so we were not getting any of it. Now, my wife does not want the home, and if she isn't going to be happy, then I do not either. The "ringer" told me that she would then take our keys and sell the house and my wife told them to do it.

The "big ringer", now the regional manager came into the picture, apologizing in every imaginable way to make this deal right. At this point, we have moved in because we could not stay in our rental any longer because they needed to rent the place. We were trapped and had no choice but to move in. So, Bill **, the "big ringer" for Clayton came to our home. He did a tick sheet of 20 things to include the chandelier and driveway repair, along with other things wrong with the house, but the master bathroom was not going to be done. Structurally, it could not. At one time he asked us if he wanted Fleetwood to build us a new home and I asked if it would be put in the spot that we were in and he told me no. So, that was not an option.

He asked us what Clayton could do to make the bathroom "mix-up" better, and how we can be happy with our home. I told him that we could not be happy because I would be paying for 15 years and showering in a bathroom I did not want. I did asked for a storage shed since we went from a 1,800 sq. ft. 2 car garage rental to this home. We need the storage area. They are going to give me $500 to do whatever I need to do for the home. They are not buying a shed. They are not fixing the bathroom.

The "under ringer" was sent to us to talk through everything because we refused to sign any more paperwork. This guy (Scott **) was the pleasant personality portion of this ** job of theirs. He was sent to sweeten us up and sign our lives away. You can probably guess how this part went. He promised to negotiate everything with Bill up to and including the shed. The end result, nothing more than the $500 promised and limbo on the shed. I won't even go there on their crappy appliances. The first chance I get to get these out of this house I will.

Consequences: Let's talk about the financial problems we incurred: 1. $541.90 rent for 11 days in our property; 2. 11 days of added utility bills for July; 3. $210.55 for the loss of the mover scheduled and my sons and my needing to rent a U-Haul and move ourselves. Our labor should be back charged to Clayton; 4. $55.00 month storage fee for our home goods (continuing); 5. $59.76 mini-blinds for the windows so we don't live like gypsies; 6. 11 days of phone and cable expenses; 7. $56,000 for a house that I have to live in, and look at, until it is paid for that we did not agree to; and 8. I won't even go with having to live with a woman that hates the home she is in, because if the woman of the house is unhappy, the whole house will be as well.

I bought a new mobile home in June of last year. It has many problems and they said they will fix it but they do a little and then I don't see them again for months after I call them I need this fixed. There should be a law against this.

I purchased my home over three year ago and have had trouble with it ever since. All I can say is that they knew I had no experience in purchasing a home and they took advantage. My home is full of black mold again. This is the second time I have had to replace the sheetrock. I have already had to replace the hot water heater and at that time I found out that the wireing needs replaced due to it being a fire hazard. I am a single mom of three children all under the age of 7. I live in fear that we will all be asleep one night and it will catch fire. My kids and I have suffered terrible Asthma attacks and nose bleeds from the black mold.I used my land that my parents gave me for the trailer purchase so if I leave the trailer I lose my land. I only want the deed back to my land they can have the trailer, I don't want it. I don't recommend anyone to purchase a home from them.
