I purchased a Whirlpool washer on June 16, 2009 at an appliance warehouse in South Portland, Maine. It was delivered on the 19th. It stopped working in less than 10 weeks on 9- 02-09. There was no water entering and it would spin. After repeated repair efforts, parts problems and hours of technician time, Gary ** finally got it to work on October 3. It is now broken again, same problem and today is only October 9. Whirlpool will not replace the washer as long as it can be repaired. Appliance warehouse has a 30-day return policy. What can I do to get my money back or to have the washer replaced? What recourse do I have?

Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer is 7 years old. Dryer has had a circuit board replaced and it still does not produce much heat. The washer has never washed properly. Clothes have always smelled moldy. There are constant errors, the door lock constantly freezes, sometimes it is not draining properly. Today it just locked up and quit. These are junk! They should have been $100 apiece, not $1,000 apiece, huge rip off! I want my money back!

We bought a new Whirlpool sport duet set the end of May and installed it the first part of June. First we had to run a whole new circuit for the washer because it wouldn't run on a circuit with anything else. The first part of August, it just quit working. You push start and it goes off. I called Whirlpool, had to take a day off to wait on a repairman, only to have him say he'd have to order a part - the computer control board. The parts place told him it would be in in one week. It never came. We called him and Whirlpool. They did a nationwide search and found that they could not get that part anywhere, so they told us they would replace the washer and pick up the defective one.
My husband has called and called. There is no expected delivery date. I have now been having to go to the laundromat for 2 months. I have been paying on this washer for almost 5 months and have had the use of it for only 2! It is costing me money every week to go to the laundry to do clothes, plus the time wasted. I have to drive 20 minutes each way to town, then sit and wait on it to get done. During the hot weather, I had to dry most of the clothes there as well. The Whirlpool dryer takes a long time to dry and if you leave wet clothes sitting around on a hot day, you end up with soured clothes.
My patience is gone! If they cannot get a part or a replacement machine, there must really be a big problem at Whirlpool! How can you get them to stand behind their products? I looked at this as probably the last washer I'd have to buy. Now at 50 years old, I'm having to lug heavy baskets of clothes to the laundromat and pay double for the pleasure!

Our Whirlpool Cabrio washer/dryer have been nothing but headaches. The dryer has been unusually noisy from the start. It has been looked at 3 times and nothing can be done about the noise. When people are over and they hear the dryer, they always comment on it. The washer just had to have the computer board replaced for $375.00 and now the RPS sensor is bad. We have wasted time and money on this washer/dryer. We have had to go without washing clothes until they can be repaired. We have had to take time off work for the repair visit. Only certain models are recalled even though all of the machines are doing the same thing. It's not fair. We bought these in good faith, spent a lot of money on them, and have been sold defective products. Whirlpool needs to make this right.

My washer that is only two years old shuts down with an F1 error code. Researching on the Internet, I found that many have the same issues. The repairs are very costly and Whirlpool will not stand by the product, leaving consumers stranded. Since mine is out of warranty, they said, "too bad." There should be a recall on the product.

I purchased my duet washer and dryer last February. The washer I got didn't work right out of the box. It was replaced with a different washer. I took out a 5-year extended warranty. I just paid off the loan on Thursday and on Friday, the machine stopped working. It comes up with a SUD and F35 code. I have been told it is an analog pressure switch. The repairman came out a week later and didn't have the part so he had to order it. Okay, another week has gone by and still no part. I called the warranty place and was told the part was approved, but no one could tell me when the part would be shipped to the repair shop. I paid a lot of money for this set and after one year, the second washer is not working.
This is criminal. Not just one lemon but two? No one seems to care how long you have to be without the washer. Once they have your money, they could care less. You shouldn't have to wait one two three or more weeks for your product to be fixed. With the economy the way it is, you would think they would bend over backwards for the customer so they can save their jobs. They should be thankful they have one. But if they keep up the bad work, they may not have one for long. I would never recommend Whirlpool to anyone ever. I was so happy to finally be getting a matching set of machines and now it makes me sick to my stomach to see what has happened. I'm still waiting for my part. This has started the third week. When you pay for a warranty, you should get what you pay for.

I have a Whirlpool Duet GHW9400SUO washer. Up to the last three months, I have had problems with this washer: 1st, white towels and everything else that have light colors were turning brown and I had no idea what was going on; 2nd, some of the towels and others got rips and tears on them; 3rd, now I am getting a code FH and TH. This is too much. I paid a lot of money for this washer when I could have bought a top load for $200 that would have lasted at least 5 years and still could have sold it for $100 five years later. I took out a 1-year warranty on it, but I was not paying any more money on this. It’s a rip-off. My water bill has doubled and I pay $25.00 more a month on my electric bill. Now, I have to stand by to reset the washer every 2 to 3 minutes to get a load done.

I purchased the Cabrio front load washer and dryer on 10/27/06. I never had a problem until a strange code started showing up on my washer. I did some research and found that there was a defect in certain washers. I called amongst the many consumers affected by the recall, only to be told that my washer was not one of the serial numbers affected. To be courteous, they agreed to pay for parts and I will pay for labor and service charges of a company under contract with them. I agreed. Upon more research and the thousands of complaints, I found that individuals with my series were offered full repairs. I called back only to get a song and dance about how they were doing me a service.
I paid over $1,400 for this set. It should not be breaking down on a family of only three. They would not or could not tell me why consumers were not notified of this glitch. They felt it was our duty to contact them. The service tech never showed up at my home. I am still waiting for the next appointment. I will never buy their products again as they don't do damage control and just think consumers have money to fix an almost thousand dollar faulty machine. Shame on them!

Cabrio washer model #wtw6600sw generates F1 fault code for the past month when starting the washer. The machine was purchased in April of 2007. We purchased a Whirlpool washer (WWTW57ESVWW-WH) and received it on 7/15/09. The machine shreds clothes on the regular wash cycle, which is related to a water level sensor problem. It either puts too little water in tub or defaults to the fill machine to the max water level. C&E was contracted by Bernie's to troubleshoot the problem, but they apparently found no problem but instructed us to not use the normal cycle, only the gentle cycle. This cycle does not remove soil and leaves too much water after spin, which requires inordinately long, dryer cycles. This is not energy-efficient. Many cases are documented that the water level sensor switches are defective in this model, which is why we do not want this machine. Bernie's wants a 10% restocking charge, which I do not feel we should pay; hence, this complaint.

The following is my complaint filed at www.BBB.org. Problem date is June 2009. Purchase date is 1/17/2007. Model number is WTW6300SW1. Serial number is CT3970060. Payment amount is $717.00 + 43.02 (6% PA tax) = $738.81 (sale price). Purchase done at Lowe's.
Two and a half years ago we bought a Cabrio washer and dryer set. In June, the washer started flashing an F1 error code. Water will flow into the detergent dispenser, then the F1 code flashes 3-5 seconds after you begin a cycle. You have to reset it by pressing cancel and then pressing start 2-3 times, then it will run. With 19-22 minutes left in a cycle, depending on which cycle used, the washer stops again. It will flash F1 until you reset it by pressing cancel and then pressing start 2-3 times. Then, it will run.
I did a search online and found out that this is an exceptionally common problem with the Cabrio. Whirlpool has recalled the part and is fixing people's machines for free as a result. I was thankful to hear this since it is a higher-end, $900 machine; and it should last longer than 2 1/2 years. I called customer service today, 8/25/09; and I was told that my model number is not covered under the recall, even though I am having the exact same problems as others whose machines were covered. I was offered help in scheduling a service call that I would have to pay.
Also, as a result of my search, I found the part in the washers (6600 series) covered under the recall is the same part and part number the factory previously installed on the 6300 series. If it is recalled in a 6600, it should be recalled in a 6300. I am asking BBB for all parts and labor to be covered by Whirlpool to repair my Cabrio washer with a defect caused by a part(s) installed on all Cabrio washers generating an F_ _"F##" Code error as printed on page 19 in the use and care manual provided with the Cabrio washer by Whirlpool.

In 2004, I purchased a Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer. In 2006, I needed to call the store warranty technician to correct a control panel problem which was repaired quickly as the unit was under warranty. When I called again in 2009, I was informed that the parts alone would exceed $900.00 and the labor would be another $200.00 to $300.00. The bearing was gone on the rear drum. I was informed that this was a common occurrence with these washing machines as the bearing was in fact plastic. Since I didn't buy an extended warranty, I had no recourse but to purchase a new washer. I had purchased a pair of pedestals for the set. Now, I am left with a dryer on a pedestal and a new washing machine that sits on the floor. I will never again purchase Whirlpool products nor will I ever visit Flint Electrical. If there is someone out there who would like a two year old pedestal, please call me.

Next day, when problem came, we called him but he never returned back and that complaint is still pending, and the company never ever took pain to resolve pending complaints.
After that within a week my son was diagnosed with cancer and I could never pursue the washing machine problem. He is okay now. Now on 10-8-9, I again lodged a complaint (**) and the mechanic came the next day and said the UCB needs replacement (see the difference between the judgment of the two mechanics). But he said he doesn't know when he could be able to do that. Today, I called him again but he gave no satisfactory answer.
Whirlpool has some reputation but such incidents are dimming its reputation. I need a replacement that too very soon. I didn't buy such an expensive machine to bear the mental anguish. I have been having problems with my Whirlpool Cabrio washing machine. I keep getting an F51 code. It basically shuts down the machine in mid-cycle. It happens anywhere from 2 to12 times during one load. You have to push Pause and then Start to get the load going again. Sometimes, that won't work either and you have to push Rinse and Spin and hope your clothes are clean. A repairman came out and said it was the control board that needed to be replaced and it would cost almost $500.
The machine cost $831 and was just 2 years old. I researched online and found that it is a very common problem, even a petition is going around for Whirlpool to fix this problem. Everyone has the same problem right when the warranty runs out. In my research, I also discovered that many people have had their parts replaced by Whirlpool free of charge after they called and spoke to a supervisor. I called Whirlpool for the same deal that everyone is getting and they told me they couldn't do anything about it and that they have no record of a problem with my model Cabrio. They did offer a discount though. I refused that as well.
I have contacted the BBB and joined the petition. I never like to sue but this is ridiculous. These top line machines should last longer than 2 years and if everyone is having the problem, then it is obvious that it is a defect in the product development and Whirlpool needs to stand by their product.

A couple of years ago our Whirlpool Gold dryer started marking brown marks on our clothing around 2-3 inches long. We contacted Whirlpool and they supplied us with a certified tech that corrected the problem by replacing a seal in 2007, which turns out to be a temporary fix. I have noticed this same mark again recently. I notified Whirlpool which advised they could pay for the part and we would have to pay for the labor. They set up a tech to come out. The guy called to say that he would have to come look to see what the problem is and for the first 10 minutes, the charge would be $65. So, I told him what the problem was and what part would be needed and he stated they don't keep that on the truck. He would have to come out to evaluate the problem in order to get the part and come back to fix it next week which in turn would have been well over $100, he stated.
So, I cancelled him and contacted Whirlpool back to see if they could help us a little more since to me this is a manufacturing defect. (You pay lots of good money for an appliance and you expect a longer life that they have plus this dryer is ruining my clothing). So Maria, a supervisor, stated that manufacturing defects are only covered in the warranty period which as she stated we are too far out of. She offered to pay for the parts only and we can pay for the labor which I finally pulled out of her that the seal that was replaced a couple of years ago was $30. Maria also offered us a 15% discount off a new product. I hope she was kidding since we have no money in this economy to purchase a new appliance. I advised her we would not be purchasing a new product and especially a Whirlpool product. Maria also informed me there is no lemon law on appliances.

Finally, one local guy gave me the number for Whirlpool and told me to ask them about the F51 code and to find out what parts he should order to make the repair. Whirlpool’s customer service was not helpful and refused to tell me what the error code meant. I requested to speak to a supervisor and the rep left me on hold for 20 minutes before I was disconnected. Apparently, this error code is a common occurrence for a Cabrio at 2 to 3 years out.
I would never buy another Whirlpool appliance and wish I knew about this potential problem prior to making my decision. I thought that I was making a sound investment and purchasing a washer that would last years. I was told the repairs would cost about $450. This is outrageous considering what I initially paid for this washer 3 years ago. I would probably be better off purchasing a cheap Kenmore for $350 that will last for 15 years and scrap this Whirlpool Cabrio money pit. Whirlpool should be ashamed for stealing money from consumers for repairs that are happening to all Cabrios. Come on, Whirlpool: do the right thing and step up to the plate! I had called Whirlpool several times and spoke to different reps and supervisors, and after many months of haggling and complaints, they offered me 10% off a new washer. What a way of doing business! This is adding insult to injury.
My complaint is this: why use me as a guinea pig? I would imagine these washers are engineered for certain use and life cycle. The result of all these malfunctions are due to manufacturing defects, and Whirlpool will not stand behind their product. This is not only unjust and a ripoff, but also wrong and selfish. I purchased the washer in good faith, but Whirlpool can't reciprocate. If you can't fix it, get out of business rather than add stress and problems to Americans and the world at large.

I bought a Whirlpool about 3 years ago. It's now having a mildew smell in it around the seal. I have to leave my washer door open after every wash to ensure that the problem doesn't get worse. Whirlpool Duet model. I went to the local appliance center where I bought the washing machine and described to a saleswoman what the problem was. She said, "Yeah, you have to leave the door open or it will create mold around the seal." I was never told this by her when she sold this unit to me, plus I don't recall reading about having to leave the door open in the manual. The saleswoman told me to clean it with bleach. If that doesn't work, then use vinegar and water. If this still doesn't work, I will have to replace the seal.

In January 2009, I noticed rust developing around the bleach dispenser. In February, the rust spot was getting worse. I was due for a yearly service in March, so I called for an appointment to get my appliances serviced. I mentioned to the man on the phone about the rust on my washer around the bleach dispenser. I was told that rust is not covered under the Master Protection Agreement and there is nothing Whirlpool can do about the rusting on my appliance. I told him I felt it was unfair that a washer only 3 years old rusting that bad and I was afraid that a hole will develop resulting from the rust. Again, he said there is nothing they can do.
I told him that I have an old Whirlpool washer that is about 20 years old. It doesn't have any rust spots on it at all and that he can come visit and see it for himself. Again, he said they cannot do anything about the rusting on my washer. We are not asking for a new washer. We are only asking Whirlpool to replace the top portion of the washer that is rusting away. All of our appliances in our home are Whirlpool, but with the problem we are having with our washer, we are having second thoughts about purchasing Whirlpool appliances again.
My husband and I are very frustrated about what is happening with our washer. We are afraid that at the rate it is rusting, a hole will develop and the washer will be ruined. We work very hard for our money and we try to buy the best so we can get longer and rewarding service out of our appliances. It is not fair that Whirlpool is not standing behind their products. We have never been so disappointed about any appliances we have purchased before like we are with this Whirlpool washer.

I've had nothing but problems since I purchased it and just recently I checked for repair and found out this machine from Whirlpool has a class action suit for selling defective washers. To repair this machine, it will cost me $798.00 plus $65.00 service fee. This is the highest I’ve had to pay. Every repair has been between $150 to $400.00. Whirlpool discontinued this machine. Why didn’t they just recall it? All they can offer me is $15% on a new one. That sucks.

My husband and I called this appliance store for repairs on our Whirlpool dryer. We were told it could not be fixed and it was recommended to buy a new one. We bought a new Whirlpool dryer from Stoltzfus Appliance. Within a month, the tumbler inside the dryer started to turn a bright blue and several pieces of clothing were ruined. We complained. The first time a repairman came out to look at it, he said that he'd never seen that before. When he came back, he said it happened all of the time and that I should have known to wash my husbands new Levi's several times before putting them in the dryer. I wanted a new dryer.
No, they couldn't do that. So, they sent for parts. 8 weeks later, the parts arrived. They were the wrong parts. Two weeks later, he finally fixed it. Meantime, we discovered my husband had lung cancer and he became very weak. The man who replaced the tumbler and parts was not very pleasant and thought it was a waste of his time. After the parts were replaced, within two months, the same thing occurred. I had not bought any new Levi's or jeans that would make it turn blue. It is still blue and still ruining clothes. I gave up.
I called Whirlpool and talked to a young man. He'd never had that complaint before. I asked him if Whirlpool stood behind their product. He couldn't answer me. My husband died in Jan. 2008. I have been grief-stricken and have not explored further contact with that company and I will not call them again due to the way we were both treated. I had never heard of washing Levi's several times before putting them in the dryer and I had never had that problem before, never.

The service technician came and took about 3 minutes to remove three screws from the front, open a panel, twist off the top to the trap and remove three baby socks. I have no idea why Whirlpool customer service wouldn't mention this simple solution to me over the phone. $150 for the service and a few more hundred for the unneeded parts we replaced ourselves. Whirlpool appliances, need I say more? I have a front load washer and dryer that quit working within 3 yrs. I had to replace the pump within the first 6 months and then again within a year, and so on. Then the front gasket decided to tear apart causing it to have to be replaced. Next thing I knew, it dumped water out everywhere. The dryer went shortly after that, it just decided not to dry and the digital buttons went crazy. I have a dishwasher Quiet Partner I that has stopped working, it no longer washes dishes, it lasted 2 years barely. I have had to rewash dishes many times within these 2 years. Our refrigerator is also Whirlpool and the icemaker has been replaced twice. Now I just buy ice. The gas hot water heater lasted about 3 years with repairs. Not something I wanted to worry about, so I replaced it. I am getting a junkyard full of appliances; I did not know they were disposable. I am tired of worrying about washing dishes and clothes. I had an older stove that went out too, but it was here.
My parents had appliances that lasted 30yrs. This is crazy. We are building a new house that will have a lot of large appliances and I am about to have a stroke thinking about whom to buy from. I don’t want to put out a lot of money for something that will last 2 years, just long enough for the warranty to run out. The reputation Whirlpool had when I was growing up does not stand. I will not have anything to do with them again. I have been burned too many times.

I bought a new Whirlpool washer (model #GSX9750PWO, serial number CR4710919) in Feb. 2005. I am a single man and was deployed for 15 months during that timeframe so the washer received less than normal family use. On or about 30 March '09, the washer quit working and started making a grinding noise. I called the local service tech who is certified by Whirlpool. He determined the transmission was bad. I had a warranty that covered the replacement transmission. The repair tech came back one week later with the new part. As I watched him tear down the washer, he said "Geez, look at this." Three mounting bolts are required to hold the transmission in place but only two had been installed from the factory. Both bolts had been sheared off creating irreparable damage to the base element. He told me I needed a new base.
I called Whirlpool and spoke with Shana they said they would only warranty the transmission. I told her the problem of one of the main bolts had not been installed from the factory, causing stress on the other bolts that eventually sheared them off causing transmission failure resulting in the base damage. After 45 minutes of haggling, they offered me 10% off of a new washer. I asked for her supervisor. After about 10 minutes on hold, Rob came on the line. After going through the concerns with him, he told me the repair tech needed to call tech line and they would not validate any information unless it came through the repair tech. On 22 April, the repair tech called me back and told me that Whirlpool would not honor any further repairs to the washer and they would do no more because of the months I have had it.

After the first year, this happened a couple more times. Just about 2 months ago, I noticed more water than usual had leaked. Now the washer is under an extended warranty, and I once again called for service. This time, the technician knew immediately what was wrong. Like so many other consumer reports I have read, the water spills over and leaks out the bottom of the washer. It cannot be repaired and the extended warranty company will not do anything. We own the Cabrio Washing Machine and have had all the problems noted previously with error codes and leaking. The problem that concerns me the most though is the rotten egg/mildew smell every time we use the machine. I went through the normal procedures and contacted Whirlpool to obtain their advice on what could be causing the problem and how could it be fixed. I understand people make mistakes, and I don't expect all products to be perfect; although, I don't expect any company to lie to their customers to mask an obvious problem with the top loader Cabrio Washer. I was told by Whirlpool that the smell was probably the water heater and the zinc anode reacting to the water source. I was also told to use bleach in the washer with hot water and this would remove the smell.
After several months of order and eliminating all of the items that Whirlpool said was the problem, I finally did some investigating of my own. I found out the actual cause of the rotten egg smell. Regardless of what Whirlpool tells you, the following is what is causing the terrible odor every time you use the Cabrio Washer: clothes are working their way under the gap between the agitator and the basin. It is only a small 1/4 inch gap so it doesn't swallow clothes with every load. After taking the machine apart, I found old moldy and smelly clothes in a sub-basin under the agitator.
After using the machine for more than a year, I removed 2 shredded and moldy t-shirts, 2 soccer shorts, a pair of undies, and 2 socks. The stuff smelled awful after sitting in this wet sub-basin for I am not sure how long. The good news is that the clothes would create error codes while working their way to the sub-basin, although after they get through the gap, the machine starts working again without error codes. The bad news is that the house and clothes smell terrible even after they are washed (I am not sure of any other health consequences).
I am taking my time to make everyone aware of this problem and to make sure those allergy sensitive individuals are aware of this issue (Whirlpool will not make you aware of it) to prevent any health issues. I am also concerned that my expensive machine will continue to be stressed due to this design flaw and that I will best case, continue to have the order issue. The worst case is that the machine stops working due to the grinding; and I have to buy another machine.
I have written a letter to the CEO of Whirlpool to let him know specifically about the problem. Monica called me back and told me that I "overloaded the washer". I am embarrassed for Whirlpool and their response regarding this issue. I am waiting for an honest and reasonable response from Whirlpool regarding the Cabrio Washer. Their previous responses have been unacceptable and dishonest. I am giving Whirlpool an opportunity to do the right thing regardless of how much it impacts their bottom line!

Every time I try to find out where the parts are, they tell me they are back ordered, and then offer a 15% discount to buy a new machine. I have had seven service calls (three different companies) and to no avail have had any satisfaction. My machine stays off balance and shuts down. I have actually sprained my thumb and strained my back from having to lift the wet clothes up and reorganize them in order to start the machine again. This can easily happen between two and five times during a cycle. The computer board has been replaced (recall) and they have replaced my impeller and it still doesn't operate properly. I have never been more frustrated with a product and absolutely dread having to wash a load of clothes.
My technicians have all told me that the Cabrio does not have a part problem. It has an engineering problem which is quite obvious to me and that the unhappy customers are endless. They even dread walking in and seeing that you own a Cabrio. They have even told me that Whirlpool does not care and have no intentions of replacing this catastrophe of a machine and they just want us to give up and go away. Well, I don't think so. I'm personally on board with any civil action taken against the Whirlpool Corp. as they are not taking the responsibility of designing and selling a defective product. If you will read the Quick Start Guide, it states you have made an exciting and rewarding investment and we want to ensure your complete satisfaction. Really. How about our complete dissatisfaction! I just can't seem to get any satisfaction from the Whirlpool Corp.
I thought I was going to go into complete hysteria when I finally got transferred to a Supervisor and her pathetic resolve was to offer me another service call. I purchased the Estate Washer in July 2008 and since that time I've had seven service calls on the machine. The wash machine is leaking on the small cycle load and splashes water over the side of the tub onto the floor. The service calls and the repairs have cost more than the wash machine itself.
Each time the tech relays to Whirlpool Customer Care and each time they refuse to do anything about it. On a few occasions, they have lied about the machine. At one point, Whirlpool Customer Care told me that I was filling the machine too full with clothes. I am a single parent with one 12-year-old child. There isn't much laundry between the two of us.
Today, the tech came out for the seventh time and witnessed what the machine was doing. He took the top off and we watched water splash all over the floor, wall, carpet and dryer next to the machine. He called Whirlpool Customer Care with me listening to the conversation and he told them exactly what the machine was doing. It was splashing water over the side. They instructed him to have me call about the machine and what they would do. When I called them, they told me that the tech called it in as a Use in Care and that I was loading the machine improperly with my clothes. What an outright lie. I was standing there listening to the conversation. I have been lied to by this company twice now.
I called the Corporate Office today and the woman on the Executive Team told me that the machine was working properly and there was nothing I could do about the water splashing over the side of the tub. She suggested that I add more clothes or wash on the medium or large load. I asked her why my parents' wash machine would not leak like mine does because they have the same machine and she said she didn't know. I also asked her about statistics on how many complaints they receive on this particular machine doing this and she had no idea what that information would be.
I truly feel that I have been sold a lemon washing machine from Whirlpool. HH Gregg and Whirlpool have refused to replace the machine. Bottom line, the machine leaks and it is leaking on my floor. I cannot believe that a company of this size would refuse to do something about the machine. I will never purchase another item from HH Gregg in Madison, TN and will never purchase another Whirlpool item again. I will make it my mission to tell people not to purchase Whirlpool and I will lodge as many complaints as I can regarding this company.

In 2006, we purchased a brand new home that came with Whirlpool appliances. Trail Appliances was the supplier. We wanted to upgrade our washer & dryer to the more expensive and (dependable) front load systems. The supplier suggested we purchase the Higher Grade Kitchen Aid models as they were the better appliances and that Whirlpool was upgrading everything to the Kitchen Aid brand. Two years and seven months later, suddenly the washer quits. I waited three hours for a Whirlpool Technician call back.
In the meantime I had another company come out to look at the washer. When you remove the top panel of the washer, there is an electronic power pack at the top rear of the washer, and the control panel at the top front of the washer with a wiring harness that passes through a sharp-edged hole in the metal cross member just behind the control panel. The vibration of the washer causes the wiring harness to rub on the sharp edge of the cross member and after two and a half years, the insulation on the wiring harness wore down to expose the wire and contact the metal cross member creating a short, thus frying out all the electronics of the washer.
I now have a $780 repair bill with no compensation from Whirlpool because I did not purchase any extended warranty. I explained to them that this was a manufacturing defect and their response was that there were no other complaints of this nature on file and because I did not purchase extended warranty, there is nothing they can do.

I purchased a Cabrio Washer in July of 2007. Within one month, the pump went out. I purchased it at ABC Warehouse in Traverse City, MI. I bought an extended warranty with it also. When I called, they came in a couple of days (Yeskes). They said it wasn't installed correctly and never checked the pump. I called ABC many times and told them that they were nuts because of the installation instructions. Our washer is in the basement and has to be pumped up and out. We more than met the height requirements.
In the meantime, my month and a half old washer would not work and was leaking water everywhere when I tried to use it. I threatened to drive through their showroom and dump it off if they didn't do something. The manager was never available. I finally went in and cancelled my extended warranty with the idiots. I then called Whirlpool and they sent out a wonderful gentleman from A&E. He found that it was the pump; it had a coin in it. It blew a hole in the side of the pump. He had to order the part and come back one week later to put it in. So, I spent money and time going to the Laundromat when I had a $950 washer sitting there.
Since then, A&E has replaced the pump again. My husband has replaced it twice and the third one (actually fifth) one is being shipped as I am writing this. In the meantime, I also had a F1 signal on my machine that would never finish a cycle. I messed with that for at least three weeks trying to trick it into doing my wash. I finally got mad and called Whirlpool and they sent out A&E and they did cover it even though my warranty had just run out. They said it was a known problem.
I have never owned such a piece of garbage in my life. I will never buy another thing from ABC and I will never own another Whirlpool product. That machine is a piece of junk; it has such poor design. I have tried so hard to make sure no change is in any pockets. There is just my husband and I so, there isn't that much laundry. My last washer lasted 12 years and the belt went. I wish I would have had it fixed. We had a dairy farm when we had that and ran 2 to three loads a day seven days a week and it never gave me a problem.
Whirlpool should pull that piece of crap washer and replace every single one that has had problems. I am going washer shopping tonight. My husband took one of the old pumps and epoxied it so I could use it until the new one came. The pump is working but now it has something else wrong with it and he has had it. It also spins so hard sometimes that the clothes are completely tangled and wrinkled so much, the dryer doesn't want to take the wrinkles out. It does not get clothes clean even on heavy duty. I am very unhappy with the quality of this washer for what I paid. I thought I was getting a quality product. I contacted Whirlpool several times and was basically told that I could be at fault or if something is going to fail, it would probably happen in 90 days. I am getting no satisfaction from them.

This is an update from the former. I bought a Whirlpool Cabrio on Jan. 23rd, 2008, which broke within a week of having it. Lowe's replaced it per their policy and replaced it with a new Whirlpool Cabrio serial # wtw6600sw2 model # cu4171592. Second washer broke on 1/10/09. I called Whirlpool per manufacturer's one year warranty. They scheduled A&E Factory Service to come out on 1/13/09. The tech replaced the subcontrol panel which did not fix the machine. He then ordered a stator. On 1/21/09, he replaced the stator but it did not fix the machine. I called other tech and decided it was the main electrical control panel. He left to find part, came back at noon and replaced the main electrical control panel. The machine turned on but will not agitate clothes, soap dispenses on rinse cycle, then spins leaving the clothes with soap when done. I called A&E to inform washer is still broken but they will not come back until 1/23/09. I cannot confirm how much longer washer will be broken if other part is needed. It will take another 7 days from the date ordered.

I originally called Maytag to complain about my Neptune TL. I was transferred to a complaint representative. She took down all my concerns and I talked to 3 or 4 people before ending up talking to Andy, ID **. I repeated my story to each representative. I was planning on purchasing a front loader but had read much about the mildew smell and knew I didn't want to deal with that. We decided on the TL and have the mildew smell anyway. I was told to run bleach or special tabs through the machine regularly to prevent this. I am a 30+year satisfied Maytag customer but the purchase of this product is definitely my last.
The machine was marketed to be able to handle large loads, king size comforters, and be gentle on all. The machine knots my clothes, damaged my comforter, and does not clean my clothes. It sounds like a military helicopter taking off in my laundry room during the spin cycle. I have always recommended Maytag to newlyweds and friends and neighbors replacing their washing machines. I am now the first to tell them not to buy a Maytag-Whirlpool product.
My husband and I replaced a working Maytag washer and dryer because we wanted a more modern set when we purchased our current home four years ago. We spent over $2000 for the Neptune TL and matching dryer and I am insulted that Whirlpool wants to send me cleaning tabs or a 20% off voucher on a purchase of over $2000. In contacting consumer affairs over a month ago, I was supposed to be contacted by email regarding some sort of resolution regarding my complaint and that did not happen. I am sorry that Whirlpool inherited Maytag's problems but where does that leave me, the consumer?

On Jan. 18, 2009, we purchased a Whirlpool washer and dryer and a 5-year warranty (cash). On delivery, Jan. 19, 2009, the repairmen made me (by myself) move furniture to get it in. I had cleared a path in the back of the house, but they wanted to come in the front. We had removed the old dryer, leaving only the washer to be removed. They couldn't or wouldn't hook up the dryer vent, stating that it wouldn't hook up to my old hose. I want a refund! Washer rinsed 3 times and only spun out part of the water. The dryer, I attempted to get it to dry 3 bath towels and a couple of face cloths. After five cycles of running the dryer, they were sort of dry and not having the water spin out in the first place. I do not want these machines! They are pieces of junk! I want my money back. I have an incontinent daughter living with me, and I have had to walk the soiled clothes back and forth to the neighbors.

I bought a Whirlpool Cabrio washer/dryer set from Lowe's in late Jan. of 2007. Within days, I had to have the washer replaced for it leaking water from the bottom. They replaced the washer with a new one, Lowe's policy. Now, not even a year old, the second one is not working. It gives 2 fail errors F50 and F51 which no one bothers to tell me what they mean. As soon as the A&E Factory tech arrived, he looked over all of my washing supplies telling me that the HE Detergent I'm using might be the problem.
(Why is it always an excuse rather than just admit the washer is the problem?) He replaced the sub-control panel. When that didn't fix the machine, he stated it might be the stator, which they don't carry and will need to be ordered. It's been 8 days and the part has not arrived. No one can give me any concrete date my washer will be fixed and I don't think that I should have to go out and buy a new washer when the one that is to be replaced is just under a year old.

I bought a Whirlpool Duet sport front loading washing machine on 1-4-09 from Lowe's. It ran fine for one week and then we had to stop it in the middle of a rinse cycle and leave our house. When we came back, the machine will not start. The lights are all lit up, but when you push the start button, it shuts itself off. I called Whirlpool customer service and they advised us to unplug it for 20 minutes. Then they told us they couldn't get a repairman out until next Tuesday, but we could call ourselves and maybe get one sooner from a local repair place! The service tech I called will be at my house today to perform an autopsy on the machine. If Whirlpool monitors these complaints, be advised that I dropped $600 on this machine and you get one chance to make it right, or you get it back!

When I bought the top of the line with the matching $ tag, I didn't expect to get the bottom of the barrel. I have a matching duet laundry pair. The washer has given me problems from the start. Now suddenly, the dryer quit. I had the repairman out and the motor is fried. I'm lucky it didn't burn down my house with the stink it let out before it quit! And the dryer is only 3 years old. I will never buy Whirlpool again!

I have a Whirlpool Duet Washer that has black on the rubber gasket around the door and smells like mold and the stench is terrible. The clothes washed in it smell like mold too. I called in 2002 soon after buying the washer to Whirlpool to report the mold smell. The rep I spoke with was rude to me in tone and attitude, telling me that there was nothing to be done about the problem except that I should wash and dry my (new expensive) washer and leave the door opened. I called back hoping to get a hold of someone who could help me with this problem. I had no success and was only upset by all the people I spoke with to the point that I had a bad headache. I had just spent over $1,000.00 and was very upset and felt depressed because we had spent so much money and were offered no alternative from Whirlpool.
Not knowing what else to do, I did what they told me to do, cleaning the washer and leaving the door opened for the last six years. And now for the past month or so, I can't get the black to come off of the rubber gasket. The smell is in all of our clothes. I have used front loader washer cleaning tablets; they did not fix the problem. I called Whirlpool today, 01-05-2008. I still have not been given a remedy to this problem of mold and stench. I was told by the Whirlpool rep to contact A & E Factory for an appointment with an authorized tech to come and diagnose the problem. I do have an appointment for 01-07-2008. I must pay for this and don't know if they will be able to remedy the problem.
I believe this is a health hazard. My husband is very upset about the mold and smell in our home and on our clothes. He gave me direct orders last evening to get this mold problem resolved even if I have to purchase a new machine to do it. He said no more front loaders as he believes this problem exists in all of them. I however don't believe this because at the laundry mat (on Alum Creek Drive in Obetz) that I have to go to in order to avoid the mold smell on our clothes, the front loaders there do not have the mold smell.
Whirlpool seems to me to be in denial about this problem when I speak to a rep on the phone. Although, I believe the Affresh tabs are manufactured by Whirlpool which suggests to me that they are well aware of this problem. Please see that all washer manufactures do not get by with this. It has caused a lot of problems for me emotionally and healthwise; and I would appreciate help in dealing with this problem. I'm sure many other people could benefit from a remedy to this problem as well.
When I contact Whirlpool, the reps I speak with make me feel as though I am the only person having this problem, and that I must be doing something wrong. I just want to remedy this problem and to be treated with respect. I want my laundry to be clean and smell clean. I want a washer that doesn't need to be cleaned after each use. I want a washer that cleans my laundry. I want Whirlpool to fix this problem. I think that the problem arises from the kind of rubber they are using. It should be mold resistant.
One consequence is the smell of mold in our home and on our clothes which is unhealthy, embarrassing and unacceptable. Another consequence is the time and money I have spent trying to get rid of the mold and smell of mold in my home and on my clothes. I have used more cleaning products to do this and have spent so much time cleaning and the stress for me as a house wife to have a mold smell in her home and on her clothes has been unbearable. My husband is being treated for breathing problems since buying this washer. We both have been treated for allergies since buying this washer.
Now after all of my hard labor trying to have a clean home and laundry, I have to buy a new different washer to achieve this? The frustration and distress this washer has caused me, I'm not able to put in to words. I am not well. I feel that I am a victim of Whirlpool. I need help. I don't know that the next washer I purchase won't have a similar problem. I believe that the public deserves better. We need to be able to purchase products that perform correctly, all products not just washers. We have had a lot of trouble for other appliances that have been recalled time after time. That doesn't help us when we have to pay to have them replaced or are inconvenienced due to the appliance not being operational. It should not be this hard. Please help.

I registered my complaint as on 23/12/08 and still no one has attended on such claim. Earlier, I have also surveyed your service center at Patna and got a very bad experience there. Whole details are mentioned here: My washing machine has been out of order due to rat cut but to date, it is in warranty period. So I registered my complaint to your Muzaffarpur service center and someone came to my home place i.e., Riga ** and inspected the machine and took RS.300/-. He told my father that he will be back within 15-20 days with accessories and do what needed to be done. But even though we did a lot of reminder, he did not come. After 1-2 months, he suggested to send it to my service center in Muzaffarpur. Muzaffarpur is not convenient for me, so I told him to return my deposit i.e., Rs.300/- (without any receipt). He refused to do so.
Then I brought my washing machine in Patna. I was ready to pay transportation charge of Rs.250/- from my residence (**, Kankarbagh, Patna-20) to service center and also ready to pay accessories charges which was destroyed by the rat. But your service engineer at Patna, Mr. **, also demanded service charge. But I refused to pay the service charge because it was within warranty period. He told me I have to pay service charge. I then requested Mr. ** if service charge was payable to please bear with me and adjust Rs.300/- which I have already paid to the Muzaffarpur service center. He refused to do so and told us in this regard we have to talk with my Muzaffarpur service center.
So I am very much disappointed with this. You are a reputable company with service centers all over India. What kind of service is being provided by your service centers? It is also surprising that they would demand service charge within the warranty period. You service center has no respect for customers. Mr. ** told me that I was free to complain anywhere and also go to court. Sir, in this regard, your opinion is awaited that such kind of harassment is justifiable, and I have no other way to go to court. Customer is helpless in front of your service provider. Your opinion is awaited.

Twenty three days after they delivered the set, the washer locked the door during the cycle and locked all my clothes inside. We were not able to get them out. I called Leon's and they directed me to call Whirlpool, so I did. They then tried to get a service technician, but that was not going to happen for close to a month before anyone could be available to come look at it. I was extremely mad since I had a house fire and purchased all of my furniture at Leon's. I told them they would replace it or they could come get their $20,000,00 of furniture sitting in my house. They did bring me another.
I had this washer and it is now broken after 4 months. I called Whirlpool and they sent a tech. He tried to tell me it was the water pump, that a piece of underwire from my bra got stuck in it. There is no way. So needless to say, I am stuck with no washer. It is the Christmas holidays so the laundromat it is. I called Whirlpool and they said there was nothing they could but send the tech with the part as it was convenient for him. I will never buy Whirlpool again, and I am only 25.

We purchased a Whirlpool duet set in 2007. Just one year later the drum broke loose in the washer and we had to replace the unit. I was told by a repairman that he had never seen such damage and it would cost more to repair it than to replace it. We decided this time to buy a Maytag because of the reputation for dependability. We made a mistake buying from Best Buy. Please don't make the same mistake. The first machine delivered was broken from the start and the delivery man filled out an order for a replacement. The second machine delivered the delivery men didn't level it so it broke. We had purchased a warranty so we had no problem getting a service request.
The problem was getting the people out here to fix the machine. We waited a week for the man to come out and find out what was wrong and another month after that for them to come out and fix the machine. We have a new baby and a little one who is potty training and older children so the amount of money we spent at the laundromat for the month was ridiculous. It has now been only a month since the machine was fixed and we are already having problems. My clothes smell when they come out of the wash cycle and the machine needs to be leveled again.
Now the whirlpool dryer we bought a year ago with the original set isn't drying our clothes. I have to run the clothes through at least twice and sometimes they are still damp. I was shocked to find this site and see that so many other people are having the same problems as I have been having. I am even more upset to see that whirlpool merged with Maytag. It makes sense to me now that I have had such problems with both the Whirlpool and Maytag machines as well as both companies not wanting to do anything about it.
To anyone who is thinking of buying a major appliance from Best Buy, I would advise against it. I found the service departments customer service to be very rude. I was hung up on and when I called back to make a complaint I was spoken to very rudely and then not connected to the department I requested. Let me assure you I was not rude nor loud with anyone that I spoke with. After getting nowhere with the service department I called the best buy store to place a complaint about the service department and was told that they had nothing to do with the service department and after 30 days they couldn't even look you up in the computer. I am very unhappy with Whirlpool, Maytag and best buy for not standing beside their products.
