I had French Doors installed and in less than a year the threshold started to lift. The installer used press board under the threshold and it soaked up the water like a sponge lifting the threshold about 1”. Worse yet has been the frustration I’ve experienced by the Pella Customer service to fix the problem. They sent a technician to evaluate the problem but now months later have yet to schedule the repair in spite of repeated promises.
I’m concerned about water damage into my basement - and likely the damage will be much worse due to the excessive delay in having this repaired. They claim that the service tech who did the job is busy until September and they don’t think I should wait till then. I agree - in fact I don’t even want the same tech in to do the repair - he should have been fired. But in spite of a dedicated customer service rep assigned to my file they seem unable or unwilling to be able to get this resolved. Most frustrating is to be told at least four time now - "We will get back to you by end of day tomorrow." Tomorrow never seems to come with Pella!

I have photos of my experience. The windows are expensive, and despite the fact they had two independent people measure I had a window that was an incorrect fit. I still am missing a giant front window. Also the packaging on the window - it is staples on the window - STAPLED! Each window on what appears to be plastic casing has big staple marks - it looks awful. So expensive - never again.

We special ordered an exterior door from Lowe's and was recommended not to use Pella from the store. We chose to go with Pella and when the custom door arrived, though it was beautiful, had the wrong exterior trim. It came with casework instead of brick molding. So, no storm door could be installed. We never got an answer or explanation why from Pella. The sales rep in our area never cared to investigate either. Lucky for us, Lowe's stood behind us and graciously special ordered a Therma-Tru door, which has a higher energy rating and nicer door I must say. After 3 months ordered and 30 days from install, we feel we will get what we ordered and hope you never have to deal with Pella customer service if you have issues.

I went to Pella because it was my understanding that Pella Windows were one of the best manufacturers of windows. Although my complaint is not about the Windows themselves, as this remains to be seen, my complaint is about their installation. Once we paid for the installation which was sold to us as necessary to keep the warranty. The service went downhill from Payment. The installers showed up late, did not finish, left a hole in my house where a window was supposed to be installed. They showed up with a broken window. They left the window in my garage for months, as it was nearly impossible to get them back on site.
There was little to no communication as to when they would be on site. Missed appointments with no calls. They were rude. They never finished the outside trim, and I still can't to this day, get them to come back out. After all that, they left unused equipment and products (caulk, etc.) in my garage. After several request to finish the work, I have been totally ignored. We paid a premium for these windows, and I have to say, I have been totally ripped off, as when I paid for the service, they felt no further obligation. A horrible company that should be ashamed of themselves.

Charlotte NC Replacement Windows problems. Replacement windows ordered March 2019 $55,212.66. Installation was scheduled June 3-15. 2 Pella contractors refused to do job due to window size. 3rd installation contractor Pella hired showed up June 17. Installers ran out of installation product so worked 1/2 days. Installers took a week off for a vacation without finishing the installation. July 12 job finally completed.
This caused a major delay in remodel timeline according to contractor. Sales rep did not order extension jambs, so drywallers had to take two weeks to install drywall returns. Now Pella says it's not their fault their installers didn't show up to work and the contractor says it's Pella's fault for the delay and extra charges occured during window installation. Nothing but the runaround, have never been supplied with warranty paperwork, a couple bent True View window screens. A total nightmare.

I purchased 2 Pella Architect Series slider patio doors in 2011 for primary home. We chose door with grids and mini-blinds. Paid $4K each and another $1,100/ea to install so total investment was $10,200. Doors are warrantied for 10 years; glass is warrantied for 20 years. Beautiful doors. Also purchased one for my home in Nantucket. That door is still performing properly. Dining room door (we never use this door and never raised the mini-blinds) in primary home is now clouded with condensation in between the panes of glass. See pic. Door in family room has leaked so badly that we now have significant water damage to the solid oak floors. So, this has been going on for some time and one has to be concerned about mold! See pic. Rain is leaking right into our home. See pic.
Buyer beware ... "labor" is warrantied for only 2 years; hence, if something is found to be defective with the doors; Pella, which touts that their "products are backed by some of the strongest warranties in the business", will charge you for someone to come out and assess the situation and then charge you for someone to come out and fix the problem with their defective product. The person they sent out to assess the situation found that the seals on both doors (both the moving and stationary parts) have failed. For my money, this translates into: Defective Product still under warranty. However, the charge to fix these doors will be $540.00!!
I spoke with Becky and Judy (both very nice) and was told that Pella needs to charge for the labor. There is only one reasons to charge for labor to fix defective doors and that is when you know that your doors are likely to be defective. Their products are substandard and their "labor" warranty suggests that they are very well aware of that fact. I have been a manufacturer's rep for over 25 years and have had the privilege of working for a company that truly stands behind its products because the products are top drawer all the way.
So, think twice before you do business with Pella. Don't spend thousands of dollars on a product thinking that you are getting the best of the best. With Pella, you are not. You have 2 years of comfort; after that, Pella is standing by to dip into your wallet to help fund the costs necessitated by its products' inferior quality. There are other alternatives out there. With Pella, you are paying for the "name" and it turns out the name Pella comes with quite a bit of tarnish!

I purchased my new Pella patio door through Lowe's, hoping that would give me a local resource in case there were issues. That didn't work so well... Lowe's installer did a great job and I was a happy camper.... Then, one evening I noticed that I could see out onto my patio when the internal blinds were closed!! Further investigation showed that neighbors in my condo complex could look right into my kitchen when they walked by my patio! The blinds hang in a netting, and do not overlap as normal blinds do. This leaves an opening that you can see right through!!! So folks, if you buy this patio door DO NOT EXPECT PRIVACY!!!
Multiple calls to Lowe's and Pella. Two different technicians came out and they both could see the issue and agreed that they are 'see through' blinds. Pella's offer was to replace the glass panels. Their installer was ready to replace the glass panels, but after looking at the new door he had with him, he said what I already had installed was better. More calls to Pella... and more unreturned calls to Lowe's. Finally I got a call from local Pella office stating "that is the product". Really?? Why even put blinds in and let people think they worked??? I'm SO DISAPPOINTED with this patio door. I bought is so I wouldn't need window covering, but had to purchase window coverings to close at night so neighbors couldn't look right into my kitchen! I wish I could give this product a negative rating.

All I can say is this company has serious customer service issues. I have five older Pella sliding glass doors. Started calling them on May 27th asking for a quote to replace screen doors. The first week without a response, I called back, and they had the wrong email. After fixing that, they let me know via email that they no longer make the screen for my door anymore, but they could quote me a replacement. Asked me to provide some measurement. After providing the measurements, I did not hear from them for a week. Called, and told they would escalate it. Still no response so I called again and was told by the representative that it was not their department, but they would have the right department respond to me. Still no response after 3 days so I called again only to be told that the department had 5 days to respond. Waited another 2 days and called them back again only to be told they would escalate it.
After another week, called today (June 27th) to complain. They put me on hold which rolled over to a one question customer service survey about how they are doing and then hung up on me. Funny that on each call, the person answering the call acknowledges the poor response and promised they would have someone get back with me. STILL WAITING! Tried one more time. Told that they would send me to the right department only to forward me to Lowe's Home Improvement. The rating of one star is too high!

The first incidence was really a combination of my contractor and the salesperson. The wrong windows were ordered for my new addition in spite of my explicitly stating I wanted the same size window or bigger than the original kitchen window (47 inches wide), and the largest window possible for the new master bedroom suite. The windows I asked for were not the windows sent. No problem, the salesman came back and I wrote down exactly what I wanted on an order form the second time. Again, the wrong windows came. I called the salesman to verify exactly what I had written and he confirmed that I had not written a 24 inch wide window for my kitchen. I mean who would want a 24 inch wide window to replace a 47 inch window when I was making the kitchen much bigger. A smaller window came for the master bedroom as well. The third time the windows sent were the once I wanted.
Now the bigger problem. The two doors ordered leading outside (one from the master bedroom, the other from the kitchen) are now leaking in spite of what my new (yes new) contractor does to try and fix them. The inspection depends upon the door installation and the installers say they cannot fix the problem until August. I am going back to work in September and the rest of the house (floors, kitchen) will have to be put on hold until the doors stop leaking underneath. My contractor remade the threshold and put in rubber but realizes the plates angle into the house, not out of the house.
The first contractor did everything wrong (materials, installation of beams, no permits, no access to the crawl space, no pitch to the flat roof-deck, the list goes on), then quit when he realized everything he did had to be destructed and re-constructed (any number of reasons). Now the window company he chose against my better judgement is holding up the job which has already taken two years.

I had a professional contractor install several Pella windows and one large patio door. I am very happy with the windows, but the patio door is turning my carpet black! I have had 2 professional carpet installers and 1 professional carpet cleaner inspect the situation. It is NOT caused by dirt. It is caused by the black seal on the bottom of the door, which touches the carpet when the door opens. Pella refused to help by contractor, who tried his best but said that he cannot remove the black seal. He removed some of the padding under the carpet, so that the door would not rub as much. Unfortunately, in addition to having a large unsightly black area, the carpet now also looks uneven. Does anyone have any advice as to what I can do? Feel free to respond directly to **. Thank you.

If I could give this company less than 1 star, I would. Purchased a “designer series” door in 2013 to the tune of almost $7,000. This past year, after a couple of brutal, rainy CT Nor’easter water was accumulating in the track and overflowing onto my family room carpet (at least 3 ft into the room ruining the carpet). So I called the “service” number and was told my door was out of warranty and I would need to pay an upfront service charge of $175 +tax to have someone come and look at my door. Well the actual installation process was a nightmare (the screen door still doesn’t close properly after several service calls to/from the local distributor who sold me the door) so I opted to contact an independent contractor who agreed to troubleshoot the problem (FOR FREE!!!).
After confirming the problem (he believed the weather stripping between the sliding doors needed to be replaced), he advised that I utilize Pella service as they would have the appropriate parts. I called and scheduled service with the local distributor: long story short, there was NO weather stripping between the doors! I called the service department back and they advised I call Pella Corporate directly. After multiple phone calls with both Corporate and the service department representatives referring me back and forth to each other, I was finally able to reach a “supervisor” (Susan) in Corporate who confirmed the weather stripping is installed at the factory (as did the 2 previous corporate reps). So in effect, the door was defective from the factory.
I then asked (since this was a factory defect) how to get the damage to my carpet reimbursed. She informed me that the “warranty” does not cover damage to any other parts of the structure (and she proceeded to read me the warranty!). So I asked: “Are you telling me that Pella will not assume the responsibility for my carpet which was caused by their factory defective product?” She affirmed with a “yes”. And proceeds to say she does not know what happened to the weather stripping: if it was removed during installation (door comes in one piece) or if it “fell out”. REALLY? A $7K door and the weather stripping just falls out? Wouldn’t I see it lying in my deck??? This is NOT a warranty issue: it is a factory “QUALITY” issue and one would a $7K door to be water tight. I could get no farther than speaking with Susan who also responded to my complaint with the BBB. BOTTOM LINE: buyer beware and stay far, far away from Pella products.

We paid 15 grand for new windows and doors. Little flying insects can crawl right in around the doors and windows into our house. It is terrible. We put masking tape around the inside, hundreds of gnats get stuck in it, how can they get in a brand new, high-priced Pella door. HELP! They are triple pane, two panes close together on the outside, a gap of about 1 inch, and then the inside pane which can be opened. In that space, between the 2 outer panes and the inside pane, there are gnats. How can that be. These windows are defective and need to be replaced. What a nightmare, we thought we were buying the best, boy, were we suckers.

We purchased an 8' sliding glass patio door from Pella and within a few years began having problems with the door. Difficult sliding and closing the door in the winter months. Several years later the door began to leak. Whenever it rained water would leak from the door to the threshold then on to our floor ruining the carpet and wood trim. Several calls to Pella service provided no explanation or help with the problem. Pella service referred us to sales to purchase a new door. We purchased a new door reluctantly to match the rest of the windows and doors in the house.
After removing the old door, it was obvious the problem was defective cladding on the door that over the years rotted the entire bottom of the door. Pella accepted no responsibility for the problem and refused to offer any compensation even though we purchased a new door from them. I will never purchase a Pella product again and warn any consumer to beware of Pella. Their doors and windows are NOT well constructed. They don't stand behind their products. They are probably one of the worst companies I've ever worked with.

All 3 of our 8' Doors have rotted in the Same Spot! When we renovated our home, our builder suggested the Pella Architect Series which were, according to the builder, the "Cadillac of Windows". This was in 2002. In 2017 we started having trouble opening the sliders. We thought it needed lubrication, or the rollers simply needed adjusting. Wrong! We had a handyman out to look at them and he came into the house with a handful of "mush" that was the inside of the doors. The seals on all the doors have failed and allowed water to penetrate the wood on the inside. We called Customer Service and were told that the wood is not warranted for more than 10 years. They would send out a service technician for a $150+ fee, but the "Customer Service" (a true misnomer) representative said that it would just be "lost money" as there is no way that the rot would be covered!
Our fairly exclusive subdivision on Lake Michigan has now made a statement about the use of Pella Windows and Doors which is to be included in our homeowner's manuals. Including pictures of our doors! There is a definite flaw in the design of these doors that is evident when you realize that all three doors have failed at exactly the same time, in the exact same manner! We have a real concern for all of the other doors and windows which were installed at the same time. Our previous windows were perfectly good at 25 years but we wanted all the windows to match, thus we replaced all of the existing windows as well as the ones in the new area!

Not even 2 years since my house was built and the glass on my sliding patio door broke. I came home from work one day to find glass all over my living room floor. I called the Pella Customer Service number and was told that someone from the service department will be giving me call within 3-5 days. A week later, and still no phone call. So I called Customer Service AGAIN and was told the same thing. Waited a few days, and of course no phone call. So then I called the Baton Rouge store because that's where the service technicians would be coming from. They forwarded my call to the Alabama store because they are the ones that handle the service requests for the Baton Rouge store. Still no phone call. Windows look good but the operating the openers is very poor. The handles fall off and the plastic covers are very cheap looking. Several windows don’t work at all and it is very frustrating as I would have liked to open windows when weather permits. This was a new install so no idiosyncrasies of existing problems were responsible. I wish I had shopped around.

I ordered a garage door with installation from Lowe’s over Memorial Day weekend. They said I would receive a call within 2 business days, and now it has been 9 business days with no call. I reached out to Lowe’s 3 times since then, and never received a follow up. I finally got the phone number for Pella to contact them myself, and they said their contractor assigned to my door is not lead testing certified, which needed testing due to my house being built before a certain year. So now, because I called, they are working on assigning it to another contractor when they find one. This is ridiculous. Don’t sell a product/service to someone when you are not prepared to fulfill the order. They asked my year my house was built when I went in on Memorial Day and I paid for the lead test in store that same day!

I had to put down a one star rating to proceed with my review, but I really rate Pella windows and doors zero stars, and Pella service and help zero stars. We built our home in 2000 using all Pella Proline custom casement and picture windows, two sliding glass doors and one 8 foot wide French door. Initially we're very excited and happy with the look and operations of all our Pella products, and that continued for 8 years, until we ran into our first of many problems with our doors and windows. It all began in 2008, with water free flowing thru our custom aluminum clad picture windows, as the exterior aluminum cladding failed at the bottoms of 4 separate windows.
At first Pella was very accommodating, sending out a rep to verify the failed windows and measure up new ones, which were delivered promptly. Unfortunately they were white and seeing as NOTHING on our house is white, we sent them back. The second set arrived promptly, but again, they were white, so we sent them back also. Finally, the third set arrived. They were the correct color, but this time they were the wrong size. We were beginning to sense that Pella products and their services, were just as they advertised. VIEWED TO BE THE BEST, BUT IN ACTUALITY FAR FROM IT.
Fast forward to 2013, when I began to notice evidence of water intrusion at the base of the sashes of almost all our casement windows. At about this time or soon thereafter, I was informed of a class action suit involving all of my windows, which I joined seeing as there was evidence of damage in almost all of my windows. At this same time, all cooperation from Pella disappeared. I proceeded to re-stain and reseal all of the windows that were salvageable, and over the next 3 years replace the sashes of the ones that weren’t. Fast forward again to 2017 and I have ice on the inside base of one of my sliding glass doors. It seems the outer aluminum cladding is failed and water is getting in thru the base of the door causing damage. I check out my other sliding glass door and have the same problem, two more failed Pella products and $9000 later problem solved with Marvin doors.
And now to the present. After encountering woodpecker problems with our cedar siding, we decided to reside our house. As the siding is removed, extensive and extreme water damage is discovered emanating from our Pella windows. The seals in almost all of the sashes are compromised, the water is entering here and draining down to the miter joints which are also failed. The water drains in behind the siding and proceeds to damage and destroy much of the sheeting behind the siding causing extreme problems to many areas of my house. Almost ALL of the windows have failed, and our house which is only 19 years old is in line for $100,000 plus or minus in repairs. I will never use or endorse any Pella product again, ever, and this review will find its way on to all of my social media platforms. PELLA “VIEWED” TO BE THE BEST.

I purchased a triple panel Pella door several years ago and bought Pella specifically do to the name. I started having problems from the beginning with the heavy door not staying on the run. After a while, probably a year or two, that problem seemed to level out, but soon after I notice the whole outside panel at the bottom of the door was separating and pulling away even from the large glass window part. It is now over 1/4 to 1/2 inch separated and of course, even though it is a faulty door, the warranty is up and I was told I could buy the sliding door replacement for several hundred more dollars. I would rather buy a whole new door in a different brand than go through this again, I spent close to $2000 on the door and it is falling apart after 10+ years. Sad.
Reviewed May 25, 2019
First I will say that I did not purchase my doors directly from Pella. Perhaps if I had I would have been made aware of what I feel are design flaws. The screen is mounted on the inside. Those of us that have pets know that this is not good since a cat or dog can claw at it and tear it then you have the cost of replacement. The glass door is mounted on the outside thus the track is on the outside. We know the outside track can be hard to keep clean and sliding freely. The screen is MUCH lighter weight then the glass door so if the track is dirty you will have to use less strength to open the screen then the heavy door. This can be hard for older citizens.

Reviewed May 19, 2019
There are two major shortcomings to the way our Pella sliding patio doors are designed. First, they put the screen doors on the inside of the glass doors. This means if I want to just open the glass doors for some fresh air I have to first move the screen slider to the side. This seems trivial, buy over the past year since our doors were installed, I've found this design to be a major inconvenience. Second, the locking mechanism for the screen doors is designed so that if you slide the screen door closed a bit to firmly the mechanism drop down, thereby engaging itself and locking you out. This has actually happened to me, and I didn't not close it too hard.
Lastly, the positioning of the screen door locking mechanism/door handle was not well thought through. On the inside, the screen door handle is position at an appropriate height, making it easy to open and walk out. However, when you step outside, the handle is actually at a higher position, this despite the fact that as you step outside, you actually step down, so the handle is much higher than one would expect to find it when you go to close the door. The result is that I often find myself pulling on the screen itself since rather than the door handle. This makes it likely that at some point someone is going to put their fingers through the screen as they go to close the slider. All of these shortcomings could have been avoided had the company paid a little more attention to how their product would be used by the consumer.

I sent pictures to the company saying this was unacceptable (and they agreed that it looked horrible) and I have gotten the runaround for 4 full days. We built an addition to our home in 1999, using my step-father’s architectural company who used Pella products almost exclusively. All of our windows were the Architectural Series and yes they have rotting issues as the class action law suit indicated. I still called Pella because of their overall reputation and quality of their product. I replaced three front entry doors in 2016, that have decorative glass and many other feathers. The Pella representative showed me every option and cost factors on his computer was informative and trustworthy. He had me sign a credit application for $11,500 and said that was a standard amount that the credit was processed for to make sure there would be enough funding for our job. We took advantage of the 36 mos 0% financing option. He said the final cost of the job would be billed upon complete and true to his word the amount of $9917.28.
The job did not go perfectly smoothly. They didn't have enough trim to finish the job in the scheduled amount of time and added an extra day. I was still happy with the quality of the installers work and overall this experience I felt was a good one. NOT the case with my installation of three plain white doors with blinds between the glass for the back of our house. I called Pella again and was always under the assumption that when you call Pella you are dealing directly with Pella. This is NOT the case. They send you an authorized dealer, which in my case was Gunton Corporation. Their representative was quick, wouldn't give a straight answer on any question I asked. He looked up our previous job and had us sign what I thought was the preliminary credit authorization for $11,500. He wouldn't provided me a detailed contract after numerous requests as my first Pella representative had done.
Finally after numerous written requests I told him what I received the first time Pella had installed the front doors, and that I doubted the job cost exactly $11,500 as the more ornate front doors we had installed. He sent me an altered document that made the total balance equal $11,500. The doors we had installed were on my detail I requested as $2679.29, quantity (2), and $2613.34 quantity (1). On numerous times I was told these doors were better quality than I could purchase anywhere else. I felt uncomfortable so I took the actual stickers from the doors, and the information from the detail paperwork and went to Lowe's and asked to custom order the doors direct from Pella as they are a Pella retailer. Their quote $1499.99 for the SAME doors! I confronted Gunton Corp/Pella and asked why there was such a price difference. They told me and I quote, "it the difference between shopping at Marshals as opposed to Neiman Marcus".
They told me in writing on numerous occasions that their product was not the same as the Pella product I could order at Lowe's which Lowe's contradicted in writing. Gunton Corp/Pella is trying to bill me $7971.92 for the exact same doors I can order through Lowe's for $4499.97. A difference of $3471.95! There is no difference in the quality of the doors. They are also ordered directly from Pella. I refused to sign the financing contract until I am billed the actual amount for my job and have filled a complaint with the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection. I have read online of other consumers taken advantage of in the same way I was. I welcome other names as I feel a class action suit is in order.

I live in a historic building in Boston and Pella Windows was one of the only companies that we could use that could accommodate our regulations. However, recently I had an issue again with one of my windows and the service representative, Becky **, was extremely responsive, professional, and, was able to get a repairman out to my house within 24 hours of my complaint.
I had one negative experience with customer service, but, overall, it has not just been good, it has been excellent! I like to think that if I lived in a house that could have allowed me to consider more than one type of window, I may have had the opportunity to be more pleased with the product, too. I would give the customer service 5/5 stars and the Pella windows 3.5/5 stars.

I had my bay window replaced with Pella fiberglass framed windows. They had to replace most of the framework around the windows also. Now years later I find that the window has been leaking for evidently for several years, but it was leaking where it was not noticeable until the floor gave way when stepped on. I contacted Pella and asked them to inspect the window for me. They said sure, for a $135 fee. I find it absurd that they want me to pay to have a window inspected that they installed.

Purchased 4 Architectural Pella windows which are great but the unprofessional and inexperienced installers installed the windows without even mounting them to the house but pieces of old wood from existing wood frame that was not even fasten to building. The windows after we were told that they were installed were moving the following day. The damage that was done to the interior and exterior of the house was tremendous. The wood floors were scratched and damaged because of insufficient protection to the floors. Furniture was damaged from them placing their work tools on them not caring what happens. The metal capping on the outside of the windows were never capped which caused water damage in the house from the few rain storms that we had.
After emailing and calling I finally got in touch with the installation manager Richard ** and he and Project Manager Luis ** came to the house to take a look how the windows were installed and they couldn’t believe as what I thought when they were at the house. They kept saying that their installer Albert was one of the best installers they had. Then I thought wow how bad is their worst. So emails were sent with Pictures of the damage that was done and finally after a few weeks they scheduled for the windows to be removed and reinstalled correctly by a different group of installers. Windows were finally installed first week of November but with scratches to the new windows, gaskets damaged and cut, no screens installed, water coming in from my sons newly installed window, screws that are used to fasten the window to the frame are rusting, and we are in the middle of April, way over 6 months and nothing has gotten taken care of.
I constantly send emails to Richard ** and even texts and no replies. I also contacted Aiden ** the Retail general manager and no replies as well. Finally Richard called and I stated all the issues again and that he stated that he needed to follow up with his team. Well that was in March and we are now ending into April and still no answer from either one. I have contacted Pella Headquarters and filed complaints against how I am treated and how the installation went. I was told that the Pella sales and installers are basically third parties and they cant do anything to rectify the issue. I would think that you have someone selling and installing your product that you want to make the customer happy with the product and install.
Very unprofessional to treat a customer this way from corporate and the sales and installation department. They have no problem Taking the $12,000 for the windows right away but at least take responsibility of what your installers did. Do not recommend having Pella from Connecticut office work with installing your windows. Very unprofessional and nasty as if I did something wrong. Highly recommend to hire a private contractor to install your windows and not a group that does not know what they are doing. Most likely will need to take them to court.

Our neighbor across our courtyard has the exact same problem and is furious with Pella’s sliding doors allowing moisture in the house where the door opens and closes. It a design flaw and they won’t admit it. It’s really too bad. We’ve used their windows on three homes and they have all been fine but all I can tell you is to not ever think about using Pella sliding doors because you WILL REGRET IT. The service and explanation for the problem is terrible.
Why doesn’t any other window in the same room have any problem with moisture but the door where it opens? There’s a seal problem in that the door doesn’t close tight enough. Even the initial repair guy said if the door is wrapped a bit that this problem will occur but Pella Corp won’t admit it. It’s a shame that they treated a past loyal Pella customer this way. Now another is rotting and they want 1200 dollars, plus labor, We were NEVER advised the wood would rot after certain years on the windows with crank and we have 14 of them! So now we have to make sure none of the others are rotting, we can not afford their price for fixing something that should NOT be rotting in the first place! Is their wood not treated??? The sales rep comes in and promises me that he would get the new arches within 2-3 weeks. Was told later that would not happen. Called the manager Ryan ** KS multiple times but all in vain- has a don’t care attitude.
Called Pella HQ and spoke to Tessa ** multiple times and nothing happened there either. 2nd set of arches came in December first week and again the wrong size Inspite of giving them the actual glass template that was removed from the old arch. Ryan showed no interest in coming to my house to see what was going on. I had to hire a lawyer as there was no compensation for all the trouble I have gone thru. We finally changed the shape of the window to a rectangular one. HQ has said that I was not their customer and therefore owed me nothing.
I am writing this review to give people some insight of hiring a contractor outside of Pella. They will not do anything to help you. The front door is fading and they blame it on a 3rd party refinisher when their own tech says that the doors came that way from the factory. The door warps and is almost impossible to lock when weather gets warm or cold. The best part is that my sliding doors were installed without the optional draw shades that can be installed in the door panels... So I asked for a quote to get some installed - $1500!!! We bought our home in 1994. It was 9 years old. On the back side of our house, Pella windows were installed...a large bay window in kitchen and a double window in the guest bedroom facing back of house. The windows have built in blinds. We had lived there maybe 4 years when the blinds no longer worked (crank had broken off and or were stripped). We had small children at the time who liked to look at the lake. So in Pella’s defense, they were overly used. When we replaced all new windows in 2012, we could not replace the Pella windows because the frame was specifically designed for Pella windows. No one other than Pella can touch their windows.
I haven’t been impressed with the 2-3 times we’ve had a Pella service tech out. We had a crack (from baseball repaired) but were specifically told by one of the techs that the built in blinds were one of the worst ideas the company ever had and we would spend more money fixing them (if we even could) than getting new windows. The Pella windows are beautiful when they are new and functioning properly. They appear to be energy efficient. You just need to be aware of what you are getting into and how difficult repairing or replacing will be.

These products should be good and correct when installed, but you can really only tell if they are a good product after many years since clad windows and doors should last decades. The windows and doors at my house were installed in the 90s and have leaked water long enough for the wood behind the cladding to rot in several places. The local Pella distributors sent a tech out to check this and applied silicone sealant where the glass and cladding meet. Sealant in this application is pretty ineffective and will fail since the sealant cannot be thick enough to allow for the necessary movement. Their tech should know this. I have contacted the company and they have no interest in supporting their product. I would not have them again and would not recommend them to a client.

I bought 35 replacement windows from Pella thinking they were a good choice. Boy that couldn't be further from the truth. The reason I went with replacement windows was they went into a 120 year old Victorian with a grand amount of mouldings on the outside. Did not want to change the look of the house and tried to keep it as original as possible. The windows themselves were 74 inches high and between 30 and 32 inches wide double hung with screens.
Consider the fact I've been in construction for 38 years at the time that they were installed and I have installed hundreds of windows of all different shapes sizes and manufacturers installing is not new to me. That being said after they were installed for maybe 2-3 months all the screens with the dumbest design of 4 pins to hold them in place started to come off the tracks. Then the pins when they were pulled out to replace the screen on the track would break off so most of the screens now are flapping in the breeze. Then in the fall when I went to close all the windows and lock them it wasn't happening when you closed the top window and then closed the bottom one the bottom would pull the top one down with it so the locks were not lining up.
So I have to now get a pole hold the top closed while I close the bottom to lock them. There maybe 4 windows that actually work as they should. Now after a couple of years there's a couple that not only do I have to use a pole but I need to push the sash back on the bottom pain to keep it in the track so I can lock it. I tried to call Pella about the problem got the old run around no call backs or any rep to come and look. My next thing was I tried leaving a review with the BBB (Better Business B) only to find out that Pella is not affiliated with them. So thousands of dollars later all I can say is if I could leave a minus star of 5 that would be my rating. I would not recommend Pella to anyone.
There are other reputable company's out there that don't just take your money and throw junk your way and say "See ya". Since this installation I have installed at least 50 more replacement windows of another manufacturer and the only problem I had was 2 full screens came in damaged. I call them up and had 2 new screens in 10 days. Maybe Pella should take lessons from them on customer service.

Last night 02/12/19 our area was hit with a thunderstorm that brought high winds (gusts of 20-30mph). Nothing uncommon for our area. I woke up this am to find that the door had been damaged, the frame bent and the full front glass shattered. I contacted Pella customer support, I was told to have my original door paperwork, as well as registration number and before and after photos if I had them.
I called back shortly after to provide all information for the case that was started and was put on hold for well over an hour, during this time I started a live chat through the website with a customer support agent named Samantha, who I can assure you was not pleasant at all. After speaking with Samantha as well as a representative on the phone, both explained to me that the storm door was not covered under warranty from storm or wind damage but only defects to the door from the manufacturer or workmanship. I explained to both representatives that the door sat flush in the door frame yesterday when I got home, after the storm the door from itself is bent and glass shattered, leading me to believe there was a weakness in the door.
The representative made sure to tell me that the 20-year warranty only covers defects and I would have noticed that within 30 days of installation not 9 years later. I asked if she would tell me the exact same thing if the door was only 30 days old granted they have no way of inspecting the door to determine fault or damage, to which she replied "it's conditional", and that I was not understanding how to read my warranty. I then read the warranty out loud to her, that states "Pella will, without charge to the purchaser, provide parts or exchange, at its option any door determined to be defective in material or workmanship for 20 years after the purchase date." And asked how my 9-year-old door is not covered under warranty without inspection, to which she replied, "We don't offer inspections and replacement is only 30 days after purchase date" and that I could buy replacement glass on the website.
I explained again that the door frame is bent, and even if I could get glass in the frame I would not put new glass in a damaged door to which she replied "You would be better off buying a whole new door, is there anything else I can help you with". I can assure you I WILL be replacing my door and it WILL NOT be with a Pella door. This has by far been the worst company to deal with since home ownership, My parents have built their forever home with Pella products and I was so excited that my forever home was built with them as well, I cannot wait to replace all the windows and doors in my house now. I guess if my products were that cheaply made and widely distributed I wouldn't stand behind my warranty either.

The door and sidelights came as a single unit. The installer let Lowe's know about the issues. Lowe's contacted Pella. Pella called me yesterday (6 days after installation - 2/11/2019). "Cassandra" said that she doubts anything can be done about the issues, but they scheduled someone to come out on Tuesday, 2/19/2019. We are not the experts, so not the decision makers about what hardware is required for a new unit installation. We do not appreciate what appears to be the Pella decision that we're stuck with this unit as is. Ice is forming inside the house along the bottom of the sidelights. We are the second owners of a home built in 2003 and we took possession in 8/2009. The first thing we did was check warranties on all items for building the home. We have case windows throughout the house plus a 6' sliding glass door from Pella. We proceeded to test each window and then the sliding door. 10 out of 12 case windows failed and had to be replaced. The sliding door was fine (maybe!).
Pella honored the warranty and replaced all windows at no cost. I asked what would the cost be without warranty? $14,000. Fast forward and the home is now 15 years old. One day this past fall we were entertaining some friends and one friend told me my sliding door is damaged. The vinyl on the lower right had popped off and exposed some structural wood damage. Pella came out, took a look (5 min) and said it needed to be replaced.
Since I wanted a quick fix, I called the office, spoke to customer service and got an initial quote of $1200. When the paper quote arrived (two weeks), it said $1643, parts and labor. I went to Lowe's to find a price and it was parts and labor $1300, no warranty, Product was ProLine. I called Pella to inquire about the quote which had no line item information. I was told it was incorrect and a refund was done! A refund check was received five weeks later out of Pella IA. Why would you send out an erroneous quote?
Well 8 weeks after the initial call, the door was delivered so I could stain it. I had to reschedule the install. This was Tuesday after Thanksgiving, 2018. Customer service said they would not be available to install the door until the last week of January, 2019. To myry 8, 2018 consternation, customer service changed their attitude and reschedule for January 2019. Then when I opened the delivered door, I noticed there was no handle. The handle comes in two parts: inner and outer door. The cost was 125 for inner and 110 for out, ballpark. Ballpark was a term Pella used. They said they would have to check details of the door and give an accurate quote. Ah, didn't they just deliver the door. Isn't that information accessible on their computer. Duh! We have had our Pella Windows and doors for 11 years. What a disappointment! We THOUGHT we were spending extra funds on the 'better quality name brand' windows for our new house built in 1997. Wow, were we wrong! Every year I get frustrated more and more as I sit with drafty windows. Here we go, starting another cool weather season and I am literally watching the draft blow a piece of paper off the window sill. We both grew up in an old drafty houses and were intent to not have that problem. We absolutely made the wrong choice with Pella. From the beginning, we had door problems. Our back door let rain in and it puddled on our brand new wood floor several times before we changed. The front door came with slanted side lights. They fixed the problem but I do not know how a reputable company could let a product leave with something that obvious and not be found in a quality check.
But besides all that...the biggest problem is, since the first winter, we have had to use PLASTIC on our WINDOWs! Yes, the type that you use double sided stick tape and shrink with hairdryer. How ridiculous that these windows from this company would draft so much that we would have no other choice. Within 18 mos of installation 6-8 had to be replaced because the seal was out and they fogged over. They did replace at no charge but with no other reimbursement for our hassle. We have wood interior on the interior of the window (not vinyl) and I had to re-stain ALL THE REPLACEMENTS which is time consuming in the first place but I am still upset that I had to re-do on the new ones due to the faulty windows being replaced.
The issues I have could go on and on. With the shrink plastic in place and tight, within a few days the plastic had so much of a draft and pressure on our one kitchen window that the plastic bowed out about 2". I took a pic, sent to customer service. ANOTHER tech/rep came and their "go to" answer was that the windows were installed incorrectly! Pass the buck! Even when I could show the rep exactly where the problem was on their product and how the wood had shrunk and was not sealed around the edge, they said there was nothing they could (would) do. Mind you this was after multiple trips from rep because they had to replace and deny there was an issue.
When I had them come for the 3rd cold season in a row he said it was "too late". Why they did not acknowledge fault and try to make right within one of the first visits is still frustrating… Even after 10 yrs and I am sitting here with a sweater because I feel wind coming from window. The air comes freely between the wood part of the window and the vinyl piece that holds the glass in place. There is a gap difference from top to bottom in varying measurements from top to bottom but you can feel the air blow right between. I use a weatherstrip to seal the windows each cool season in those places to try and seal instead of shrink plastic because that is so unsightly! There is also considerable air that blows up through the channel where the tension string runs vertically that attaches the window and allows for it to go up and down.
Point being, Pella did NOTHING to fix the problem of a poor quality window. FROM THE FIRST SEASON thru the 3rd maybe 4th winter I tried to identify the problem with them. The one time they even said they needed to remove the interior trim around our window (warned it might split but I was desperate to try…of course trim did split) and put a spring/shim in. I allowed them to do on one window thinking if it worked, I would have them fix more. It did not. :( The company basically put it off until it was a few years past original installation and then just did nothing. COMPLETELY disappointed with the quality of these windows. Several friends built new homes around the same time and I so wish we had their brands because none have had any issues and I sit here freezing from a draft! Year after year after year… Wow - SAVE YOUR $ and do NOT consider Pella Builder grade windows!

It took 8 months for Pella to finally complete my $23,000 job!!! According to K.C.’s contract, once 90% of the work was done, I was obligated to pay them. Meaning, I accepted the installation, but screens and interior trim work needed to be done. At that point, Pella and K.C. Company put forth minimum effort to attend to the completion of my job. They sent a parade of mis-measured screens and trim along with useless and helpless employees who had no expertise and no authority to push my job through to completion!
Yes we settled on a MEAGER price adjustment, but it took 8 months from start to finish. This was an extremely aggravating experience!!! Every time I walk into my sun room, I am reminded of how I was mistreated and taken advantage of. It has been almost a year now since I first met K.C. Company and my anger and frustration has not abated one bit. This is what I learned. Pella Window is located in IOWA. K.C. Company is located in MARYLAND. And they hire local contractors, I am in Louisiana. This is a bad combination. I would have been SO MUCH BETTER OFF if I had kept my old windows and kept my money!!! Stay clear of PELLA WINDOW and K.C. Company.

If you're considering windows/doors please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere - I'm wishing I had. I've been paying for Pella Impervia double hung windows and doors to the tune of ~$40k, which were either: 1) installed incorrectly, resulting in damage to my walls, ceilings, hardwood floors, 2) partially installed - as in physically sitting only halfway through the hole in my walls, 3) have yet to be delivered. Ordered in June '18 - partially 'installed' August '18.
It's now November '18 with no word on when/if this job is ever going to be completed and damage to my home from the improper installation keeps getting worse. Plenty of pics and videos to show if you're interested in seeing why doing business with Pella is a disaster waiting to happen. Initially purchased because Pella supposedly had a strong reputation but believe me, as the damage to my home continues to pile up from these leaking windows, please look elsewhere.

Bought 8 Pella double hung wood clad windows and one sliding door unit. The door was the first to fail. Moisture in between the panels caused the frame to rot. The cladding totally fell off one unit. The others, the sashes are totally rotted and need to be replaced. I have moss growing in between the panes of glass in a so-called sealed unit. Bottom line JUNK, so if you happy with them and they are 1-5 years old... just wait. They cannot stand the test of time. I have Anderson in the addition, yep thirty years old and no issue at all...

We purchased 5 PELLA Architect Casement Windows ($2900) as a "family room window set" 120x60" in 2013 from PELLA Showroom. After 2 yrs, one window of the 5 developed a broken seal (condensation issue); it was within warranty for parts and labor. Now 3 yrs later, all 4 other PELLA Windows began leaking, with water actually pushing through glass panes, past wood framing, into house and ruining sill stops. Clearly all 5 of these PELLA Windows were a defective product to begin with. All parts are covered under 10 yr warranty, but I was quoted $1239.75 from Buffalo, NY PELLA repair shop on Walden Ave. for the labor. When local PELLA tech evaluated my case in person, I was told new PELLA showroom owner requires full payment BEFORE he would even place the order for the replacement windows.
I believe this should not be the case. Window parts, still under warranty, should be ordered and provided, regardless whether you commission with the PELLA repair shop to do the repair installation. Not comfortable with personally replacing the windows, we paid the $1239.75 so the replacement windows would be ordered. I called PELLA Corporation (1-866-209-4260) hoping they'd stand by their product. I was told they are not associated with the PELLA folks that do the repairs -- there is only a 2 yr warranty for labor, and they can charge whatever they'd like.
Clearly a defective PELLA product I have, that didn't show its true colors until 5 yrs after initial install. I would recommend someone think long and hard before buying a PELLA product. Think even longer if you need to get a replacement/repair done. Suggest getting the replacement parts under warranty (make sure you don't get misled thinking that you need to pay the repair costs to get the replacement windows sent to you), and hire a reputable contractor to install. If I could give zero stars to PELLA for this review, I would have.

The doors came in twice and were rejected by the installer not me, they finally came and installed them and there are numerous defects including a screw through to the front of the door. On install I was told no worry Pella will replace the door slab, well after months of waiting Pella is refusing to replace the door. The repair guy came out to put some putty on it and try to blend it in. Bottom line Pella made a bad door and are refusing to stand behind it.

We built a new home and chose Pella windows and doors. The quality of windows has declined over the years. This is our 2nd time purchasing Pella. We ordered a double/french door with glass and rod iron. After our front was installed we noticed dirt between in the pane in our left french door. It took Pella about 2 weeks to schedule us a 6-week visit. They came out and agreed that the glass needed to be replaced. It took another 6 weeks to replace the glass. When they did they replaced the glass with a rain texture, our other glass is a wave texture. So now our french glass door has mismatched glass. They said it would take another 6 to 8 weeks to get the wave glass.
Again they come to our home with another rain textured glass. I complained and they told me they could take the wave that I ordered and replace it with the rain so that my doors would match. I told Pella no, I ordered and paid for the wave texture and the rain looked like a cheap shower door. I was told another 6-8 weeks to get the wave. 2 weeks after that we received a call from Pella say telling us the wave is now discontinued. My only two options were to keep the mismatched glass and get my money back or take the rain design in both doors. Pella doesn't care that now I hate the front door or the fact that I would have never bought the front door with the rain glass. I refuse to settle for a door I hate.

I have a 4 panel (12') and 2 panel (6') Pella patio sliding door units on the back of my house. I took pictures of the worst case but all of the other panels are well on their way to looking the same. Water seeps behind the aluminum cladding and rots the wood door. By the time I noticed this problem the doors had already begun rotting. I taped the seam only to delay this costly replacement as long as I could. Pella takes no responsibility for this design flaw. They blame the customer for not periodically applying sealant around the glass where it meets the metal trim. I find this odd given the panels came from the factory with no sealant applied and there were no instructions to do this in any of their product literature.
Also, would anybody by an exterior door like this that they have to apply sealant around the glass? I have an Anderson aluminum clad wood sliding patio door and multiple windows that have been maintenance free for 25 years. Isn't this what you would expect? It burns even more knowing that we paid an arm and a leg for Pella thinking they were the best. Everyone I know that owns Pella has had the same issue. There have been failed class action lawsuits against Pella (google it) that have failed because apparently they had good attorneys write the warranty language. We had Pella Windows to come out and install two big picture windows and put in a new door w/ doggie door. They did and AWESOME job!!! Now, we built this house in 2016 so the custom huge screens and the storm door were still new. The installer lied and said the screens were cemented, which they were not, so lie #1, they were screwed in because my husband put screws in the screens to keep them from blowing out. You don't cement in screens anybody would know that. The screen door was removed and replaced with their new door. Well, we get home and we started looking around for our screens and storm door, NOTHING! We made a call to the installer, he indicated my screens and storm door were in the back of his truck, at this point we said NO! We want our screens and door, his response he would bring them back.
The next day he finished the new with locks. We noticed, the storm door back with all the screws but no screens. A call was made, to the sales consultant and he indicated it was debris and thought we did not want it anymore, we said DEBRIS!! Those screens were new. We indicated you all should have called the homeowners to see if we wanted our screens and not tear them up as well as take our storm door without our consent. The installer told a bald face lie, when we ask the first time. So, I said we are not going to go LOW with this issue, just go HIGH and pay them their $1617.22 balance and not use them ever again. They really should have reimbursed us back for our screens that they tore up and lied about. It would have been the right thing to do. Just remember GOD SEES ALL.

A few weeks prior to installation the sales manager contacted me to ask for more money since they had 'mismeasured' the door. I refused to pay any additional money as this was not listed in the contract. On 8/14/18, the company installed a door with the sidelight on the wrong side, the door had nail dents and the window scratched. The frame was multi-colored: white, dark and light wood pieces.
Calls and texts to the reps at Pella was met with resistance and rude behavior. No one apologized and everyone argued that this was in fact the product ordered. No one could refer me to anything in writing with this. An appointment was finally made for someone to come to my home to assess the door on 10/2. No one showed and no one called. There's no way to close the glass door without opening the screen. Any bugs on the screen come inside when you close the glass door. They all remain on the screen, which is now inside. If animals, ie. racoons, stray dogs etc. come to your door, you can't close the glass door without again opening the screen door, which is very dangerous. Funny, because we had no idea. We called Pella and asked for an estimate, and they sent us KC Company who represented themselves as Pella). Anyway, very unsatisfied with this company's service, as they are totally incompetent in being able to complete the job.
We paid top price thinking we would be getting a top-notch company to do the job - WRONG! They agree that there needs to be a price reduction because of the terrible service that they have given us - 8 months out and still not finished the job - totally ridiculous - but we can't seem to agree on the amount that is due to us. They really don't want to hurt their pocketbook, just their customer's purse. Can't measure if their life depended upon it. They've come out 5 times just to try to fit 2 screens, and each time they've come, the screens did not fit, and plus they were damaged in transport.
You'd think after the first time, that they would make sure that the screens would be good to go before they get here, but nope, 5 times and still can't get a stupid screen to fit. This is the least of it. The first time they installed two different windows. And when they came out to look at what the problem was, they never told us that they were two different windows (all I knew is the framing looked off). They send their guy back out to reframe the window, and I'm getting upset because it's still not right, and that's when we figure out it's two different windows that they installed - should have all been the same! This company is the absolute worst!

Several years ago I spent over $13,000 for a bay window and sliding doors, both designer series. The installation and quality of these was over the top. Unfortunately, their customer service is the absolute worst I have ever experienced. It is almost non-existent. Recently I tried to get in touch with the local office to replace one of the blinds which had broken in the bay window. They never answer their phone and do not return messages. In the meantime, I tried to open the hinged glass panel to fix the blinds myself, when it would not open. I popped it with a screwdriver to open it. But the next time, it would not open no matter what I did.
I called their 800 number and they were able to get someone from the local office to call me. I received a message and an email from Laura. But all attempts to get back to her failed. No answer, no returned messages and no answer to my returned email. I have called the 800 number too many times to count. When they did get me through to the local office, I spoke to a Randall. His attitude left way too much to be desired. Apparently I must have been upsetting him because I was not happy with the service I was receiving and when I told him, "I don't give a ** how he feels", he told me he was going to hang up on me. I ended that call and will not speak to him again.
I am currently in the midst of too many phone calls to the 800 number. I must say, the people at this number are very friendly and help as much as they can. They sent me a tool to open the windows, which did work, but I still need to replace the blinds (my attempts to fix didn't work out so good). The 800 number has sent messages to the local office twice to call me, and I have yet to receive a call from them.
By the way, they charge $120 for service. A window that costs thousands should have a lifetime warranty on things that should just work (like opening the panel). I want to replace five windows in my kitchen. I wouldn't replace them with Pella windows if they gave them to me and installed for free. It is NOT WORTH IT! Disgusted isn't a strong enough word for how I feel about this experience. Apparently they don't know the phrase "Customer Service is everything."

I had to have 4 windows replaced because the screws that were put in the bottom of the window were too long and broke the seal so moisture was forming between the panes. A couple windows would not lock (hardware was not installed correctly or bad hardware). One window had bad weather stripping... All the handles needed to be adjusted.
I'm still waiting to find out what they are going to do with my patio door. Water pools in the threshold when it rains. When they came out to replace the weather stripping they had sent the wrong stripping for the window, so now they have to come back AGAIN. Still waiting on the installer to call me about the patio door. It takes at minimum 4 weeks before Pella ever sends someone out. Then it takes forever for them to return with the parts and you can only hope they send the right item. I do like the looks of the windows, but wish I would have looked around before purchasing Pella Products. I will definitely be going with a different company for my front door. Would not recommend Pella.

We made an appointment over a month ago with Pella to replace a broken door handle. We were told they have to order the part and it would take at least a month. The repair guy arrived today (month+ later); however he did not check the part before he came to repair the door and found he was given the wrong part. Now we will have to wait yet another month as they have to re-order the correct part. I think the part should be shipped to them overnight and this issue should be resolved within a week. Our home is listed so it is important to have this door fixed asap.

My custom built home had a Pella Window contract that was 6 figures. Almost all of them failed (rotted) after 7 years and now, even those replacements have failed. I've begun replacing them all. Their customer service is almost non-existent and they have no sense of urgency in getting back to you. The horror is that frequently the damaged windows are behind the walls and when you finally notice it, the walls need repair as well. Why anyone would even consider Pella is now beyond me. I called Pella the next day, the first customer service agent hung up on me when I expressed my dismay over having a service call scheduled for a month from my call. I had to call back in and got another agent who instructed me to e-mail customer service with my issue and she would look for a more recent appointment. I e-mailed customer service and received an auto response indicating a return e-mail within 3 days. It has been 5 days with no further response and no callback. I just built a new house with 27 windows. 26 were Pella windows. I purchased these because of Pella’s reputation of being a quality window and the performance rating for these windows had a U factor of 0.30 or better. I felt cold drafts coming from all 26 windows, so I used an IR thermal scanner to see where drafts were coming from. They were leaking around the glass and the window frames and frames to the jams.
I contacted my salesman and he said I could purchase an enhancement kit for $20 per window, which was weather stripping. The enhancement kit directions didn’t even cover where the air was leaking the most, all 4 corners of the lower window where there was 3/8” to 1/4” gaps in weather stripping. I spent over $7300 for the windows. The 27th window was a bow window I purchased at Bargain Outlet for $600, which was $ 700 cheaper than Pella’s and does not have nearly the air loss that the Pella’s do. I am very disappointed in the quality of the windows.

My wife & I don't have much bad to say about the front door that Pella installed. Then again for the money it costs we better not. The issue is we had a storm door that was not even 2 yrs. old and costs us $1900.00. Pella had two people measure the existing storm door, including the project manager/Pella Specialist. Both of them knew we wanted to keep this storm door. It was even written up on the work order to replace the existing storm door. The installers came, replace my encasement and front door, however this is where everything goes south. He tells me when he tried to install the storm door that it's about 1/4" too wide! Old carpenters rule of thumb, measure 2 times, cut once? NOT!!!
They want to help by us going to Lowe's and buying a cheap storm door for about $350 and they will install it or buy a Pella door and get 50% off. Off what they give no prices. Oh remember the $1900 storm door that now sits in our garage? Hello. I have called the manager 2 times and no return call. Emailed them, and once in a while I get a person who sends a email that says they have escalated the message to upper authorities. I feel sick. I had to have the locks changed on my Pella Patio Doors. There is apparently an adjustment to the lock mechanism that controls height and it is now sitting too low. However, there is no longer a sales and service office in our area and the office 1-1/2 hours away referred the call to an office 3 hours away and that took nearly two weeks, though their voicemail says 48 hours. So I was told it would cost almost $300 for someone to come here and fix it. They were supposed to call me "right back" and here we are over a week later.
I've sent complaints to Pella customer service and they told me to call the people in Maryland back. Why would I have to call them again? Why won't they call customers? Why won't they call back when you DO call them? Why is there nothing useful on the Pella site to help an owner fix their own doors, if Pella won't do it? I want the technical information to make my own repair. And I want Pella to stop marketing to people living in areas they refuse to provide customer support to. It's a scam otherwise.

We originally called Pella and they sent a commission based representative out who was great, knowledgeable and easy to work with. We ended up buying 2 doors. One for about $11k and the other for about $3.5k. One of the doors was apparently going to need to have the jam reframed and I was told I could pay the installation contractor cash, which would be cheaper than through Pella. They were going to have to demo the existing, reframe and move electrical. I agreed to pay the $400 cash for such work.
We waited 8 weeks or so for the doors to arrive and install them, which was not a problem at all and it was represented at the point of sale. It turned out the door needing to be reframed, didn't have to be resized or have the electrical moved. I was still asked to pay a discounted $300 which I thought was unacceptable since the dramatic reframe didn't actually take place but I paid it to avoid confrontation with the contractors who had access to my entire house for the day. I let it go. Upon further inspection of the French doors, myself, the sales guy and installer all agreed that the condition was less than acceptable for such a "superior" product.
At this point, I didn't have a problem. Things happen. I'm in a similar industry and know these kind of things can take place. They reordered the doors and 8 weeks later came back out to install the new panels of the doors. They we're also, unacceptable to the installer. I was told they were worse than the original ones installed. We have now waited another 6 weeks without a word from anyone until I called yesterday. The operator was uncaring of such a frustrated client who had anticipated replacing about 60 windows and 15 doors in my 5000 sq ft house with Pella. No apology, no sense of care. I don't trust the newest doors and there isn't anything I can do, no incentive for them to do anything since they have been paid. Beware. The doors seem to be great quality and the sales process was easy, but god forbid you have an issue. You won't feel like it was money well spent.

On 10/26 they replaced the doors that do not fit in the tracks (they rock back and forth and slam into each other and the handle are so loose that you can still move them back and forth when they are locked). I lost count as to how many times they came back to correct problems. Then our front door... again, back too many times to count.
Now, the storm door is locked shut, and one of our windows won't open. Safety issue! My husband finally had to remove the glass so we could open the front door. There was a class action suit against Pella a few years ago - while we were working with the local Pella store to get our windows replaced (Again!), we were told that Pella could not honor the warranty and that our claims had to be filed as part of the class action suit.

We just had a room addition requiring ten new windows added to our home. We chose Pella, wood, double hung windows for this project. From the outset the windows have been difficult if not impossible for us to lock. The local Pella dealer sent their service man out who had to pull the windows shut with his full weight to get the lock to completely latch down. (The contractor had the locks only partially engaged because they felt they might break if forced to completely lock.) The service man said that the weather stripping needed to compress down in order for them to lock easily and advised us to just give the windows "time" to work properly. He did not say how long we would need to give these windows to settle in and start working properly. This was five months ago and two service calls to the Pella dealer and I am able to force some of them to now lock but some are still more than my wife or I can "manhandle" into the locked position.
We replaced the windows in the rest of the house 24 years ago with comparable wood windows from Wenco that have worked well since the day they were installed and were, at the time a fraction of the cost of Pella or other top line windows. I fully expect the Pella window locks to break soon simply because of the pressure put on them to lock and hold these windows shut. It is clear that the Pella dealer is not going to do anything about this clear defect in their product.

I have a question for anyone out there... A problem really. I bought 3 new Pella windows to replace my original windows in the front. Two are on the side and a larger in the center. I had heard Pella is the best and they cost around $2000. The second day they were in, the large center window was covered in a foggy condensation. I called the salesman right away, and he asked if it was in between or outside. It appeared to be outside. I sent pictures and it went to the service department. I have sent emails and called over twenty times, including calls to the national customer service office. I sent more pictures and at one point the sales person sent me pictures of his windows which are not Pella and do get condensation. I've explained that I did not have this with my old windows and I wanted them back. I was told I couldn't get them back.
I suggested maybe a screen for the middle stationary window since the side windows have screens and do not get condensation. By the end of August, I was told the service department said it was condensation and they do not do anything for that but send me a booklet which explained that condensation comes from the sun, the rotation of the earth, dew points, possibly shrubbery. I've removed some of my front shrubs but every time it gets colder outside than in, my windows are steamed up until at least 9:30 to 10:00, so morning coffee is without a view out my front window. Besides the frustration and disappointment in Pella, I fear that winter is coming and it will always be colder outside. Everyone who sees it says this is not right for a new window. I've contacted the Better Business Bureau but have you any suggestions on what else I can do?

We bought this house built in 2002 three years ago. It has lots of windows; all of them Pella. Twenty one of them are casement windows and are quite large. After we bought the house and started looking closer (our fault for not doing it before - long story), we found water egress on many and rot on some of the windows. We immediately called Pella to have them tell us that they are not responsible for the installation of their great windows. In digging further, we found out that Pella had replace a couple windows only a couple years before we bought the house. The windows in question were already rotten to the point that the ceiling of the rooms below flooded out and the sheet rock had to be replaced. One night when we were away, the ceiling flooded out again. This time, I repaired it myself not knowing what was going to happen.
We then left for a couple months - the house being heated throughout this winter time - to come back with water damage on the floor of the room with the windows and the plaster of the ceiling below being damaged again. This time we decided that before repairing the plaster and all, we would replace the window (three Panes) with a different supplier's window. Even though A and M were of equal quality, we decided to go with M because of price. The new window was installed today the siding which had to be replaced because of this problem with the rot in the Pella window goes up tomorrow. It is incredible to see the difference in quality of the new window compared to the old. I have spoken with several (not Trump here, truly several) people who have/had Pella windows and ALL are unsatisfied with the quality of Pella. Please stay away from these guys.

We recently purchased a new home and the contractor installed a Pella 450 Proline sliding door. FYI - it's not a mistake, the screen door IS supposed to be on the inside track! We did not realize until we actually started using the door that this ingenious design allows bugs inside when you close the door at night. Also, during the winter, snow can build up on the track outside and you won't be able to open the door; it acts like a broomstick in the track that most people use for added security. When I called Pella, they claim the design allows for optimal sealing when the wind blows.
I guess they failed to realize the trade off to that is a house full of bugs and getting locked inside during the winter. I suggested they come up with some type of seal on the outside to prevent bugs from flying in between the glass and provide it at no charge to each of their current Proline customers. Or perhaps a lifetime supply of beetle traps with any Proline purchase! Unfortunately neither will solve the snow problem so maybe limit market availability to the south where it doesn't snow. When we do eventually replace these doors, it likely will not be with Pella. Very disappointing.

Had double storm doors installed about 8 years ago and received the Pella warranty for 10 years. They had a wood core and one of them developed a spot that grew over the last year of flaking paint and then exposed wood core. We sent pictures of this hole in the door to Pella with all required information on size and copy of our receipt. Warranty was approved. We were told to go through Lowe's to have the doors measured and so replacements could be sent and installed. This was done and after months of waiting doors were sent to Lowe's and brought out to our house. No hardware was included so the installers advised waiting till everything was together. I called and in a couple weeks the hardware was mailed to me. The installers came back but then told me the doors were too big to fit, though correct measurements were sent in by Lowe's.
To make a long story short, after weeks of calling Lowe's and a Pella representative it was finally determined that our original doors were presumably cut down an inch or so to fit the opening and the warranty was void. This was news to us, not aware they had been modified at all, and also that the warranty we had kept was no good. We were offered a $100 a door if we ordered custom doors. At this point approximately 7 months have passed since our first request for replacement doors was sent to Pella and countless phone calls. We had thought Pella was the gold standard when it came to windows and doors. Not so.

We recently replaced all the windows in our home, 27 in total. We have lived in this house for 30 years in Norwalk, CT and have never been happy with the Acorn sliders, with metal frames that were put in when the house was built. After carefully listening to sales people from Pella and their competition; we decided to go with Max ** from Pella. He offered us a quality product at a reasonable cost. Our project was finished in early June. It was completed on time, with absolutely no problems. There was no damage on the exterior or interior. There was no damage to the existing sills and the crew replaced the exterior with new flashing and Azek material. We couldn't be happier!
The installers, Vladimer and his crew, were extremely neat, and polite and never left until everything was clean, neat and in place. We were called by Max and the office staff to see if we were pleased. We would highly recommend this team to anyone. If you would like to see our windows, please email: **. I purchased the Designer sliding patio door from Pella. After installation was complete and upon inspection, I noted these uneven over-cuts for the hinge pocket for the HGP (hinged glass panel). Pella states that this is normal. The cuts are uneven and are really noticeable. They could easily be covered with a slightly larger molding that covers the rest of the hinge but this might cost Pella a few pennies more. I have attached pictures below so you can see what I didn't before I spent $3300.

Second call I was told that I was low priority because I bought from Lowe's. Service tech called to confirm appt and already was saying that it was probably an installation problem. Not their fault. As the years have passed and the warranty has expired almost all of the windows in my house have rotted and had to be replaced. Adding insult to injury, their service department is unresponsive. How they could still be in business is a mystery? Numerous hand prints between the panes of glass. You would think someone would actually care about what they are selling.

Several years ago we purchased a Pella patio door because of the included shades in the glass. They implied it had thermo pane windows, but it was only dual glass, one being the window and the other enclosing the shade. So we had to pay extra to have the outer glass replaced with a true thermo pane window. Over the years little parts would break, and getting support was difficult. Now the drive unit for the shade movement has broken and after repeated calls to Pella support in Denver, I finally got to talk to a real person. He e-mailed part lists, and I responded with the exact part I needed, plus a photo of the broken part. Now three weeks later Pella support Denver will not respond to my e-mails or answer my calls. So my recommendation to anyone looking at windows or doors, is do NOT consider Pella.

Once the company contacted me I was told that they would only tell me the cost once on site. In 1981 I added an addition to my house and installed 14 Double Hung windows and a Sliding Glass door. At the same I replaced all the existing windows in the house with new Pella ones. I can quite honestly say not one has rotted, the double hung ones are still working like new, the sliding door (although it's taken a beating over the years) is in relatively good condition and the 2 casement windows are in pristine working order. If anyone at Pella wants to contact me they are more than welcome. Better still they can come and see for themselves the state of the windows.

Never buy again! I started buying Pella products thirty years ago and have tried to be patient. I've reached the point that it's overpriced and the customer service is terrible. Why should a good customer be given vague answers by high school graduates? Why should a minor job be so expensive (taking out a designer screen door is impossible). I read the instructions and they still don't make sense. The showroom windows and doors look good but it's another story once in. I have French doors, a large double sliding glass door, another sliding door, all wood and a fiberglass designer in my kitchen, not to mention many windows! It's hard to pop the windows to clean them and the casement windows will rot at the bottom. If it wasn't so hard to reach the corporate office for solid answers it would be different. Then a couple windows came back damaged and had to be replaced. We thought this was finally done, but no! Pella returned a window with the grids on the bottom and clear on the top. Excuse me but has anyone seen windows like this? So again we had to reorder. Finally, the right window showed up and our job was done. 5 1/2 months later for a job that was supposed to be around 30 days. Installers were great and beyond patient with Pella.
I thought this was my last experience with the company, but unfortunately our contractor installed a Pella garage door. A panel needs to be replaced and it's been 2 plus months and no sign of the parts and a dozen calls to their horrendous customer service with no results yet. And when they ask you to leave a message, don't expect a callback, because it's not going to happen. Did that 5 times so far! Too bad they make a good product, it's just lousy management and execution. Hope this helps. There are other good product on the market. Next time I will go with them.

I am deeply disappointed in the recent response from Pella windows regarding the failure of the casement windows that were sold to us in 2003. We purchased Pella windows due to the quality and price of their product. Recently it was discovered that the casement windows have become rotted and now causing further structural damage to our house.
After doing some research, we learned that others have had this very same problem. It is very unfortunate that Pella knows the casement windows were defective and yet would come back with the determination that the water damage came from the inside of the windows. This simply can't be possible as there is very little water damage on the inside compared to the water/structure damage that has taken place on the outside. The Pella rep stated "we can't prove that the sash failed". Really??? I can say that the Pella representative was willing to send a sales rep out to give us a bid on new windows, which would have a better warranty. However, currently in my opinion, this is unacceptable and insulting at best.

Since the glass has a 10 year warranty they will replace the glass but labor is on me and I have to pick the glass up. I am very unhappy with Pella and how they handled this. Complex Litigation Group LLC was prosecuting a class action lawsuit against Pella Corporation and Pella Windows and Doors, Inc. involving ProLine aluminum clad windows. Pella's ProLine windows contain an alleged design defect that allows water to enter the window sash, causing wood rot and necessitating costly window replacement. Because of the ProLine window's design, any wood rot is usually concealed by the aluminum cladding. As a result, homeowners may not discover the problems with Pella ProLine windows until it has reached an advanced stage, requiring replacement of the entire window and frame.
Update: I had one more kitchen transom window to deal with (due to the same rotting dilemma), this past week. Unfortunately, the transom was part of the double hung frame. You can see holes on the edge and the fiberglass skin is peeling off at the bottom. Pella has a 10 year warranty but only 2 on labor, fine. Ordered custom 16 ft triple wall garage door through Lowe’s. When door was ready to be dropped off at my house they gave me a 2 hour window. They called 30 minutes after that window to tell me they would be there that afternoon. I couldn't make it back from work. Had to leave for with my wife. They never opened it and checked it. I got home and it was the wrong color. Contacted them the next day and was told that's what the order was and it wasn't their fault but they will look into it. Went to Lowe’s, they put in the correct color. Was later contacted back saying that this was a temporary door for me to install that mine was on back order. (Sounds like a terrible excuse that they messed up to me and didn't want to admit it but I left it alone).
The next week my door comes in and I take of work again to meet them. I make sure to open and inspect every panel in front of the delivery person. Every panel had chips in the paint. I showed the delivery driver and he tells me they will send touch up paint. As I've been waiting over a month now for these doors I kept them and took picture to send Pella expecting them to take care of this. You did not buy something brand new to have to put touch up paint on roughly 12 different spots. I contact Pella. Send them pictures and they ask me what I want them to do about it to fix this. They say they will send out touch up paint. I told them if I'm to accept touch up paint then this door should be severely discounted. They said they would see what they could do and I've not heard nothing back. Then I come back home and find the delivery driver had left all the trash on the top of his van and I am now picking it all up thru my neighborhood.
Finally I frame out my house for the 16 ft door and go to put the door up to find out I'm missing 5 different hinges and 2 rollers. I was forced to install brackets to secure my garage door which made the door temporarily unusable. Contact Pella again. They send me over to some department that says they will send out all the missing parts. A week later still no parts. Luckily Lowe’s contacted me to see how things were going. I let them know everything and the employee got me all the missing parts. It has now been 3 weeks and and still no parts from Pella and Pella has no idea I got the missing pieces from Lowe’s. Absolutely the worst experience buying anything and I will never buy another thing from Pella, as I still need a front door and windows for my house. Don't Buy Pella. After months of a lingering nightmare-like experience in trying to resolve several issues with Pella regarding 3 doors I ordered, it is time to file complaints and warn others about their lack of any concept of customer satisfaction. Issue number one was each door that was delivered was the wrong size for the rough opening (Ro). I am remodeling an older house with some unusual Ros. The salesman did not measure the opening prior to the order and just entered what is called standard wall depth of 4 9/16 and standard jam depth and each door size is 37.5 X 78.75.
Front door into living room: Rough opening 38 inches wide, 81 inches tall, door jamb actual is 4 inches wide. Mud room door: Rough opening 38 inches wide, 78 inches tall, door jamb actual is 7 inches wide. While two of the doors were hung with modifications to the Ro and lots of trimming to make it look descent, the third door (front door onto porch) is going to require raising the roof line to make it fit. This is not an inexpensive thing to have to do. The only conclusion I can gain from this is they did not supply the correctly sized doors to fit my rough openings and have stalled and essentially refused to do anything about it.
Next issue is their Pella Brown which is nothing like the brown oak-like colors in the catalog that I thought I was ordering. When I saw the doors I honestly thought they had delivered someone else's order. I would have never picked that color had it been shown to me. I was told by the salesman (who is no longer with the company) that the brown would be like the ones in the catalog which are more like a golden oak. I have a Pella door at my current home and it is a nice medium brown oak like color. The color Pella Brown is very dark, charcoal, green-like color that reminds me of fecal material that has a lot of blood in it. The manager for Pella (Mr. John **) pretty much says it is too bad I don't like it, it is Pella brown.
So wrong size; too bad customer, you can just change your roof. Don't like the color; too bad customer, paint it. Wrong size doors for other openings; too bad customer, pay to have your contractor make it fit. Customer satisfaction is obviously not a part of Pella Corporation management style or I would have had new correctly sized and colored doors long ago OR I would have my money back (my original request months ago), then they can have their ** doors.

I explained how I have been using WD-40 on the rollers that seems to work ok, but after a few days the rollers begin dragging again. They recommend using a paraffin wax product instead.Since the door was under 10 years old, she then ordered a pair of replacement rollers that will be shipped today and arriving within seven business days. They did give me the option of driving to Denver to get the new sash, and hiring my own handyman to install the new sash.
My contention is that if the problem was my fault, I wouldn't complain about paying for the dx, new part, or for its installation. But all this was necessitated by THEIR faulty product, which occurred just barely past their 2-year limit, so they should supply a good product, fix the problem, AND install it. Fooey on Pella. I have the windows in the back of my house to replace but I'll use ANYONE BUT Pella, and I certainly won't recommend them to anyone I know. Plus the woman in their Denver office, Jessica, was snotty and kept repeating the same thing as one would to a child.

The sales person that was sent out was very nice at the beginning until he wanted me to make a order right then. I told him I wanted to sleep on it and talk to my daughter first. He got very upset and said if I didn't sign right then he would lose the sale. I told him I didn't think so I would tell the people when I called if I decided to buy from him to give him the sale. He got very mad and told me I just wasted his time because I wouldn't buy at that moment. I told him I was sorry but I never buy on the spur of the moment and I wanted to sleep on it first. I wasn't going to buy that very day. He got mad and left and didn't say nothing, not I hope to hear from you soon or nothing. I won't be buying from the Pella Window co. in Grapevine Tx or from a Retail sales consultant person named Viad **.

On March 1, 2017 a window sash from one of my Pella Windows fell on me while I was sleeping, hitting me on the head. My knee-jerk reaction was to blame Pella, but they have been nothing but kind and gracious and caring. Turns out (after I had it inspected by my own, independent contractor) the fault was in the installation done by Lowes. Pella has volunteered to reinstall the window for me at no cost, as well as upgrading the latches on all the others. Great customer service Pella!

We bought Pella replacement windows from Lowe's in 2010. Double-hung Therma Star. Night before last I decided to open the windows to let the air in while we slept. At 4:00 a.m. I was awakened by a crushing pain in my head. The part of the window that flips forward for easy cleaning had fallen and hit me in the head! A few hours and a brain CT scan later I was deemed okay, with only a big bump and a large bruise on my forehead. I am waiting for the company to contact me. Hope it's not a bigger headache than I already have!
Updated on 03/11/2017: I already posted a review about getting hit in the head by the sash that fell from my Pella window on March 1st while I slept. They came out and decided it was the installer's fault. I haven't heard back from Lowe's. Guess they're going to point fingers at each other. Now I have a huge black eye. People stare and point at me when I go out. It's so painful and I can barely see, plus now I have horrible tinnitus. I could have been killed by this dangerous product.

I am not going to have enough space to write, the experience I had with this company. They are horrible from the CEO whom did not care for the three letter I sent him to the sales person and the regional manager for the Monroe area in CT. Whatever offer they may have 50% off and low interest rate financing it's not worth all the aggravation. They have very low quality products. I just had door installed which were too small, and the frame is already cracked and the winter is not over. It has not been six months since these doors were installed. STAY AWAY!!!

We purchased and had installed Pella 350 series windows with simulated panes to replace old wooden windows on our farmhouse and wanted to at least keep some of the feeling of the old style. 2 years later we are still very pleased and are purchasing several more for use in our kitchen. Not sure what the trouble people have been having - wonder if it is the installation?

Got a large French door and a large picture window from Pella in 2004. Both of them are leaking bad. They said the warranty has already expire, so we have to pay for the door and the installation. Pella doors are very expensive and their quality is so bad that they should not be in business. Their services are also terrible. Don't buy their products because they don't stand behind their products.

Totally Mismatch, I paid $4000 and got wrong and ugly looking front door. I complained about that and manager called me and started asking me to pay $400 to change the Glass. It was their fault and not ours. But being a nice customer I paid full amount at the time of installation, but after sales service is very bad. I WILL NOT RECOMMEND YOU GUYS to BUY PELLA DOORS. THEY are BIG TIME CHEATERS. Sales person gives you wrong information and then the whole thing starts. I should have checked the reviews prior to buying this product. Feeling bad to write these reviews but I am big time cheated by these scammers.

Built our dream house in 2003... lots and lots of windows (35, many of them paired). We weren't sold on Pella windows but our contractor was, so we deferred to him (kickback?). First problem was that any time there was any type of humidity, you could see round marks probably made by suction devices during the manufacturing. After many phone calls, Pella rep came and used a polish on the windows. 2012 had to have two paired casement windows replaced due to water damage/rot. Of course, not simply a matter of replacing the windows as siding etc had to be redone ($5000.00).
Now the largest window in the house (think great room, floor to ceiling) has rotting wood. Went to Pella window place where we purchased the windows from to seek assistance. Told that the windows have a 10-year warranty but they would see what they could do and get back to us. It has been two weeks and have yet to hear back from them (surprise, surprise). We are not holding our breath. Still love our house, but going with Pella windows was a huge mistake. Never again.

The doors are very nice and service on them is good, but the quality of the built in blinds was a mistake. We've had nothing but problems with them falling down on their own and some with not going down all the way after putting them up. The rubber chain type thing that makes them open and close must wear out thus causing them not to work right.

My husband showed this to a Pella rep and all he told my husband it was too late to do anything about it now! It is really hard to raise and lower the blinds, and gets condensation in the blind area on one side.

I am so glad that consumers are writing about their experiences and dissatisfaction with Pella. I had to have my front entry door replaced 3 times and sidelights twice. Measurements were incorrect when the new door came, the second door was wrong color and did not match side lights and now my third door the fibreglass has faded badly. I also had my large living room windows replaced with new Pella at the same time the entry door and sidelights were done. The installation is, in my opinion, inferior. The windows creaks and makes noises when you press your hand lightly against it. There appears to be a lack of quality control in the once thought to be a superior product. I would not recommend Pella, in fact I wouldn't even give it a one star. Their prices are higher than most competing companies and the service is moderate.

The door knob never worked right and Pella sent out a person to fix it, but it still is fussy. The blinds were used a few times then broke. The sting leaders are frayed and broken, blinds are sagging. Pella was contacted 6 months ago and they called back. Never got a person out to us.

I am doing some remodeling and had a French door that needed to be replaced going out to my pool. My contractor recommended Pella and everyone has heard of Pella so I agreed to use Pella. Since we were replacing one door, we decided to replace a matching French door and one other single door going out to the pool area. We placed the order in October of 2016 and I think it took 10 weeks for the doors to come in. Both of the French doors were to be identical. Both doors active on both sets. All three doors are the same height. Pella has someone from their company come out and do the measurements because we want to make sure the order is correct.
The doors come in and my contractor's guys go to install them. They don't measure the doors because they think that of course everything will be good since Pella did the measurements. So they tear out my existing doors, ruining them in the process, and lo and behold, two of the doors are 2" short! I have one set of French doors that are 81" and another that is 12" apart from it that is 79". Even the single door is wrong and is 79". We called the Pella rep out and he inspected the doors. Apologizes profusely and came back three times after that to remeasure them again!
It is now January 10th, 2017 and I can't get an update on when the new doors will be in. We just had the coldest part of the winter here in Dallas with temps going down to 13 degrees and I have three doors installed with no trim around them and leaking air like they aren't even there. I am very frustrated. I have paid through my contractor $7800.00 for these doors and can't get a word on when the new correct replacement doors will be here and my job finished. Take a guess on if I will recommend Pella to friends! Feel free to contact me. I do have a receipt or work order but I am at work and don't have it with me.

Pella aluminum clad wood doors have a serious design flaw. All wood windows and doors need to be inspected and caulked, or painted regularly. It is impossible to inspect the clad wood doors. Furthermore, Pella's main selling point is that the doors never need to be painted or caulked. Our doors have leaked between the cladding and the glass. We had no idea there was a problem until the bottom of one door had rotted through to the inside. By the time the damage became evident the doors were past the warranty period. The local Pella representative sent a salesman who gave a verbal estimate of $8400 to replace the door! Although I have asked a number of times I have not been able to get any sort of a written contract with a firm commitment.
The door with obvious damage is one of 4 adjacent doors. I asked the representative if Pella had someone who could seal the remaining doors. He said that was not something they usually did and that there was probably water in the doors so sealing was not appropriate. I imagine the remaining doors will need replacement soon. This is totally unacceptable.

Now let me remind you I had two of these door. No small children. A rep came out from Pella put another stream in the door. He said sometime it comes out if kids push on it well I have no small kids. He put it in about a month later it started again the one at the front door I had never had a problem not even now just this side door I said it must be defective.
I had a return call back from Pella on 1/4/2017 a man name Dave never said his last name he had me opening and closing the door. Told me to push it more to the side and if the lock isn't working right take off the lock. He said I can do that myself. At that point I said all this time I've been talking on this phone you're going to tell me I can do this myself. He said he was sorry there nothing he can do. I said I would not recommend anyone to buy Pella Doors he said ok. He then said the doors was build in 2008. I didn't buy them in 2008.

I have 3 Pella sliding doors, which I installed when I built my home in 1998. In August of this year I noticed that the veneer on the lower door panel was bubbling, interfering with the sliding of the door. I removed the veneer and found that the wood panel behind it was completely rotted. Given the extent of the damage it must have started sometime ago because of a faulty seal but it was not apparent until this year. Pella claimed that since I failed to report the damage during the warranty period they would not repair the door. I provided a picture of the damage and explained I could not report this hidden damage could until it became apparent in August '16. They offered to replace it for over $2000, and since the nature of the damage in the photo was apparent offered to waive the inspection fee of $125 to confirm the damage. So much for standing behind your product.

At the end the installation was okay but the door does not perform. Water condensates on the door frame and even ice forms. This is a horrible product and should not be sold. Pella says they installed it properly and will not honor their warranty. I had the humidity levels checked and they are low. No water condensates on the glass, only the door frame indicating the door frame is not insulated and defective. Pella is difficult to deal with and expensive! We placed an order for Pella windows and door on October 1st. Unfortunately, I lost my job, hence we called up Pella on October 4th and cancelled the order. (Installation was to be done on November 14th.) The lady who attended the call confirmed the cancellation. Payment was thru a loan from Wells Fargo. Yesterday, (November 14th) we received an invoice from Wells Fargo for first installment?! When we called Wells Fargo, we were told Pella never informed Wells Fargo about the cancellation.
They asked us to call Pella. To our surprise, as per Pella, we could only cancel installation, not the entire door?! Now, if we want to cancel the order, we must pay 50%?! This is totally unacceptable, no one informed us about this clause when we cancelled the order on October 4th. Since we have to pay 50%, we decided to go ahead with changing windows. Now, it seems they are booked for the entire month?! They take our money, even after we cancelled the order, now they are busy to come down to replace the windows?!

I had to write something since I bought Pella in 2007 with the built in shades. I bought burgundy colored and some type of synthetic plastic material. They are wonderful. Maybe it helps that the installation man was very good. I have a very old house and previously I had to constantly clean the blinds. They said I would have to clean inside occasionally and there is a way but they are sealed so well that I haven't had to dust the inside. It has been 8 years. They still look nice and the bright burgundy colored has not faded. So nice to not have to buy or clean blinds (they are built in). I am buying more if they still have them.

We begin to notice that when it rain, the water somehow made into our home (via our patio door) onto our hardwood floors in our main family room. We knew that the old builder grade basic patio door had to be replaced. With a sense of urgency, we discussed getting a new door immediately so that our hardwood floors did not sustain any water damage which would have presented a whole new set of problems. I consulted with two different window/door companies in the DFW metroplex and we selected Pella. We met with Peter (sales consultant) and ultimately chose Pella because they had a nice selection of contemporary style patio doors - just what we were looking for. Now, that part of the process went extremely smoothly and our order was placed and we were excited. The "BIG" installation day comes (Friday, 2 Sep 2016).
Pella Product: I truly feel that the door we ordered and received changed the entire look of our family room with a contemporary elegance that was lacking. I admire our new door each time I pass through our family room and I couldn't be more proud nor happier in our home. Installation: Perhaps, I should have "second guessed" an installation of our door on a holiday weekend because the installers seemed rather hurried or rushed; especially, after they realized that they had the wrong door accessories and someone had to deliver the correct ones which required the installers to be at our home much longer than they expected.
Attention to Detail: Before acknowledging that I received and accepted the final product, I took a moment to inspect the installer's workmanship and I had to point out the following to be corrected: (a) The door frame (interior) was caulked on one side, and the other side was not. Rhetorically speaking, why not "caulk" around the entire door frame for uniformity, continuity and protection. (b) Sloppiness - The excess caulk was later discovered on our hardwood floors and we had to clean up what was left behind. (c) The bottom left corner of the door was "dinged". The installer took some touch up paint to correct it and one other area of the door. Note: The installer (to me) appeared to be a bit frustrated at my keen eye which again, added to yet further delay. I'm not certain if they had another install or simply was anxious to start their long holiday weekend.
Cleanliness: My hardwood floors should have been covered all around the work area. This did not happen and my hardwood floors were left with scuffs and smudges from their boots, ladders or other equipment and tools. Note: Additional drop cloths were definitely needed. Now, literally two months later and our first measurable rain, I find a puddle of water on our hardwood floors. I was so disappointed and livid after it took them over a week to get someone out to inspect our door. So today, two Pella representatives arrived, inspected our door and performed a "water" test and again, water leaked from the bottom of the door onto our hardwood floors. They took pictures and stated that there was nothing they could do today but our door needed a new door seal and went on to say that the seal was improperly installed; again, just 2 months ago.
Further, they stated that it would take 10-15 days. I do not like confrontation but I had to interject and state as a matter of urgency, "you will instruct Pella to expedite this request for a new seal and get it installed immediately." I also instructed him to take a picture of our beautiful hardwood floors and if there is any damage to our floors between now and the time they install this new seal then Pella will pay to replace the portion damaged. I am so disappointed and so much that, I mentioned to Peter (our sales consultant) that we use Pella for new windows in 2017. Needless to say, I will not be using Pella in the future for another project nor will I recommend them to any of my family, friends and neighbors.

Pella warranties their product but not the installation due to defect. We purchased entry doors for our home and are on our third set of replacement panels. The doors have been leaking since day one causing me to have to replace our entire front sill. It costs me out of my pocket an excess of $5K to replace and repair my porch. The decorative glass windows within the door frame have fallen due to product defect, TWICE. The third time they replaced the panels the glass on the active panel leaked as if the window was open in the first rain. On top of it the two panels are different colors and Pella says they are within threshold and will not warrant replacement.
