The warranty is great, the installers are great, the product is great, but if you ever have to have any work done good luck. I've only had two windows in ten years that had issues, however both processes of getting help, providing information, getting the orders placed, etc. was a nightmare. Both times it took 3 separate times to get my glass order correct and delivered to KC. Numerous excuses, never escalating to a manager, no follow up - terrible. Imagine arranging your schedule to be home, then getting a call AFTER they were supposed to be there telling you they don't even have your glass in town. Very frustrating that a company with a good product and warranty makes it so difficult to actually get repair work. Makes you wonder doesn't it?

Hi Scott - sorry to hear about the trouble with your warranty service. We are always looking for ways to improve. I'll be sure to provide your feedback to the service team so we can make corrections to our processes. Thank you.

The service was amazing on site. In fact the technician was able to fix my screen door. The handle was broken and no matter where I went I couldn’t find a replacement. The one challenge I did have was how long it took. It was almost 10 months from the first time I called until the windows were finally replaced.

Several years after replacement of all windows (40+) on my apt bldg the front upper 3 of 8 up/down windows failed. Techs repaired all 3 of them even though work order somehow was for one window only. Upon asking they even inspected lower unit’s 4 windows which were ok. Thank you Milgard Technicians!

We purchased our home November 2009 from the original owner (The house was built in 2003). Since moving in, we have now had a total of 9 seal failures. While originally under the impression the windows were warranted we were advised that was not the case as we were not the original owners and after you had replaced three windows. We found that we had another three failures in 2016 and were referred to several of your vendors who would not return our calls or said the job was too small. We again contacted you and was given Andy's Windows in Temecula. With the serial numbers of the fail windows Andy's was able to quote for the three windows by mid 2017. Because we would be doing extensive traveling, we decided to wait until after winter to take care of this. During that time and now, we have an additional three windows that have the same failed seals (all slider type).
For information purposes we have 12 full size windows (slider and stationary sides), 7 sets of french doors (two each), 3 bath/shower windows, 6 single crank style windows, and 2 front door stationary sidelight windows. All of the problem windows have been the full size slider/stationary type and since taking ownership as mentioned above we now have 9 failures of slider or stationary windows in the 12 full size window sets. That is almost 38% of that type of window. The crank outs, bath windows, french doors and sidelites experienced no failures.
I believe this is an inordinately high percentage of window failures which speaks to inferior quality and workmanship. I am aware of this same issue in the Del Webb Development in Lincoln California, where 6500 homes were built and where we previously lived as well as others that have posted on this site as well as many other internet complaints. I would therefore appreciate your reviewing our situation to see what can be done to provide some satisfaction to a frustrated customer.

We had a couple dings and scratched door handle for our patio door due to shipping damage. The service team replaced it all and it looks like new. The team arrived on time. My only negative comment about the service is the fact that it is hard to find a time slot and I spent quite some time on hold waiting for the Hollister customer service.

We are the second homeowners and this home was built in 2005. Our Milgard windows are terrible... many do not work properly but by far the worst problem are the markings in-between the double pane glass. This goes WAY beyond cloudiness. There are circles inside some of them and on others it looks like someone has taken a highlighter to them. These are defective. Repeated and multiple calls for service are either ignored or they send you a complicated sheet to complete prior to ever talking with a person. I strongly recommend that if you are in the market for new windows you stay FAR AWAY from Milgard.

Hi Jen - I'm so sorry to hear about your frustrating experience. The warranty extends 10 years from the date the home was sold to the original homeowner, so, your warranty would no longer be valid at this time. We can provide a list of dealers who can assist you. We used Milgard Windows when we built our house FOURTEEN years ago. We recently noticed 3 tiny holes (like a BB) on the INSIDE of the window. We contacted the vendor who sold us the windows and they gave a quote to replace the window - almost $500. Then I called the local Glass Doctor who came and looked at the window and remarked that I should contact Milgard, as the windows are warrantied. I did and Milgard was GREAT. They came out, replaced the window, no issues. Thank you! I'm so happy we have these windows.

I am really pleased with the Milgard Service we receive. With Milgard, there is no question of whether they will fix the problem, either in or out of warranty. As a Contractor, my customers just need to call the customer service number and Milgard will come out and measure the windows, replace the windows and if the windows are out of warranty or not covered because the person is not a first homeowner, Milgard will still help you for a fee. So easy, so helpful.

So easy to work with. Made an appointment online, they emailed to confirm, then called again with specific hours. Put in a work order to replace the panel, no questions asked. A month later, two crew members came in and replaced it in less than 30 minutes. The entire process from my online request to the new panel being installed was about eight weeks. Not bad, considering it was warranty work!

Warranty issue- waiting since Oct 2017 to have window replaced. Before I bought my house, the original owner called the warranty department to have a window replaced that was placed by Milgard. This was Oct. 2017 when she called. When I called and spoke to the "service representative" of the warranty department, they scheduled an appt for me to have the window replaced in March, 5+ months from the original call. This was ridiculously a long of a time to have one window replaced, but I agreed to the appt and understood that they may have been busy.
Plus, I was on the "cancellation list" according to them, but never heard back. However, there should be some flexibility to accommodate a sooner appt for me. Especially when, according to Milgard, there are workers that "volunteer" to work some weekends. Even though, I am not a paying customer, they should stay loyal to the work they have done and the warranty they support.
At any rate, my appt for mid March (March 19th) came around and of course, they had the wrong size window. The technician said the office would get a hold of me within a couple days to reschedule and they did. He also said that I should not have to wait too long to have it replaced because it was their fault. Not to my surprise, the "soonest" they had available was June 4th for me. So, again, that's another 2 1/2 months of waiting to get my one, small window replaced. At any rate, I called today 3/28 around 2:55 pm and a lady that answered my call was impatient, had poor customer service skills and very rude. When I complained about having to wait 7 months to have one window replaced she gave me a laundry list of excuses of how busy they are, "we lost two workers because they were in accidents" and how they had people waiting in their waiting area to get interviewed.
Then she went on of how short staffed and that squeezing me in or accommodating an appt for me seemed unrealistic and how "it's unethical to move someone else's appt for you". Just when I asked to speak to some with better phone manners, she hung up on me. When I called back seconds later, Amber answered the call and was very pleasant, helpful, courteous and gave me 3 options (not excuses) that could possibly work for me. Of course, my original call of around 2:55 pm was not "logged in" for obvious reasons. This was probably not her first issue with clients. I don't understand how it's ethically right to have someone wait 7+ MONTHS to have one, small, breakfast nook window replaced. I highly would have avoided my initial contact with them if I knew it would be this long of a process. Now I feel that I am at least owed a sooner appt to say the least!

We bought a condo in 2016, with clearly defective windows. The previous owner told us that the windows had a lifetime guarantee and could be replaced, he just hadn't bothered to have them replaced as this was a second home and he didn't spend much time here. Many of our neighbors have the same defective windows, and several of them have gotten theirs replaced. However, Milgard will not replace our defective windows because according to them a lifetime warranty on their windows only applies to the original owner (not even the original purchaser, because these windows were purchased by our HOA, not the previous owner); the warranty does not stay with the windows, like a proper product warranty should.
It makes absolutely no sense that we should have to pay to replace our windows that are so clearly defective. Defective product replacement cost should come out of the pocket of the business, not the consumer. And when we made this point to customer service, we were met with mocking words and hostility from several different employees we spoke with. Save yourself a lot of money, time, and frustration and purchase your windows from a better company.

Hi Nancy - I'm so sorry to hear about the experience you had talking to the service team. The warranty is for the person who purchases the windows and that should have been communicated to you in a clear and respectful way. I apologize if that did not occur when you called. If you have any further questions, I can be reached at social@milgard.com. Thank you.

We purchased 21 Milgard windows in January 2018- 5 of the 21 were incorrect- not as ordered and had to be re-ordered. Three of the remaining windows were installed and we discovered that 1 was missing weather stripping; 1 was missing a tilt latch and 1 had a faulty casement lever. It is now March 13th and these issues have not been resolved and we have been informed that the scheduled service appointment for tomorrow cannot take place as they do not have the missing parts. We have tenants in place and the window without the latch FELL OUT of the frame onto the arm of a family member 2 weeks ago. Another family member with a 6 week old infant in her arms was sitting on the sofa also. Despite multiple contacts with customer service and letters sent to management they are unable or unwilling to resolve these issues. This is dangerous and unacceptable.
Updated on 03/22/2018: I wrote my initial review on March 13th regarding the window installation that occurred on Jan 11, 2018- today the Milgard technicians finally arrived- and did NOTHING! They arrived without the weather stripping or replacement lever cover for the casement window but more importantly they did not fix the window missing the tilt latch (the part that they have claimed for the past month was on "back order"!) because it is a part that is welded in and requires an entirely new lower window! This despite our being required to document all issues in writing and send photos with the original service request (case#**) on January 24th. Either this company is totally deceitful or incompetent or both.
I have not received a single response from the management regarding any of these issues despite my sending letters to company President/ CEO/ Director of After Market Customer Service and the Continuous Improvement Manager- or the online representative who seems to have responded to many other complaints submitted on this website. Meanwhile, we still have a lower window without a tilt latch that falls out unto the floor! Unbelievable!

I am a builder and have been using Milgard Window products for over 30 years. I recommended Milgard to my clients for their brand new custom home and it has been a nightmare. For over a year, and 8+ site service calls, repairs, replacements, finally all the window glazing had to be replaced. There is some sort of quality control, vinyl material issue with the SDL (Simulated Divided Lights) the applied grid process. We had issues with the applied vinyl grids expanding and contracting with the heat/cold of the day.
The applied grids would expand to the point that it would expand off the glass onto the vinyl window frame, and contract on the glass and leave gaps at the top and bottom of the window frame. My client wanted the SDL grid pattern appearance, and now had to settle with the Sculptured grids between the glass because the issues and problems could not be resolved. Presently we are waiting for a refund for the up-grade charge for the SDL grids from the Sculptured grids between the glass, but we (Vendor, Contractor and Owner) are not getting a response from Milgard Windows. I am hopeful that Milgard will live up to their obligation to refund funds due the owner for product not received.

Despite the other reviews listed here, I have not had any of those problems with Milgard. Some neighbors, however, have window issues with other manufacturers, and they will blame the installer and the installer blames the manufacturer, and there is seldom a positive outcome. Not so with Milgard. My windows and doors are 17 years old, and still look and operate like brand new. Recently I did have a stationary glass in a sliding door and a kitchen window lose its seal causing the panes to turn mottled green. For warranty claim, I called Milgard and was transferred to my local Milgard office. (Not a window dealer, but corp office. Milgard itself handles all claims and repairs, you don't go through the dealers, a good thing.)
They took the information, set up an appt 3 weeks from now to replace the glass door and window, plus adjust/replace some worn rollers on a few so they glide open/close with just one finger. This IS the best window company and the BEST WARRANTY in the business. Compare warranties with other manufacturers and you will quickly see the difference. Ask any window dealer which company has the best warranty and which stands behind the product. Even if they don't sell Milgard, they know nobody services their windows like Milgard. Their warranty is straightforward, no wiggle words, and fits on one sheet of paper, unlike most others due to all the legal jargon.

Thanks Bryan. I'm so pleased to hear about your wonderful warranty service. It's our pleasure to serve you. Thanks again for choosing Milgard.

Purchased 11 windows and 1 slider; Ultra series, Fiberglass, and paid additional for Black Interior and Black Exterior. We were told the manufacturer's paint is extremely durable; we've found through normal use on the slider, the screen will not slide smoothly and the paint has pulled up on the slider track. In addition the paint has worn off one part of the handle of the slider, and the paint nicks with even the lightest touch. On the windows and sliders, we were told that the use of painter's tape would not damage the paint; we've found that the paint pulled up, exposing the white fiberglass frame.
After back and forth with the dealer, we finally received a small bottle of touch up paint. I have no confidence that the paint will last, and with the windows being the focal point of a 200k plus project, we've found that they actually make the build look 'cheap.' They showed up and said the window that arrived had a flaw in it so they looked at the rest of the windows and 2 more windows were bad. We then were re-scheduled for Feb 21. Again we went thru the process of having the blinds removed and the furniture moved. 15 minutes after they should have arrived I received a phone call that all 3 of the windows arrived broken so they could not do our windows.
First of all if all 3 are broken, you have a process problem, 2nd of all you should be aware of that before 15 minutes after the techs are scheduled. They already have Milgard windows in the front of the house and were replacing 9 old single pane aluminum windows. I reviewed the info they sent me, I went to parr and picked up the brochure and online to Milgard website to verify the color.
I placed the order through my sales rep at Parr Lumber. When the windows were delivered the color was not even close, it was a very dark tan not the light tan they show on the Brochures, or the Milgard website colors. Milgard's tan color is misrepresented. I have talked with the Parr Lumber sales rep and he said the same thing about the true color and the color they offer are not the same. Now the homeowners are waiting and may have to eat most of the cost of the vinyl windows.

Hi Robert - Thanks for reaching out about this issue with your customer. We denote on the website and in brochures that colors are approximate due to printing and monitor limitations. We always recommend that someone look at frame chips with the actual color, or, view a window in the showroom to confirm the color before an order is placed. I purchased 4 fiberglass sliding Milgard Windows – with Low-E energy efficient glass /unfinished Douglas for interior / painted exterior/ tempered as required for my cottage in Laguna Beach, CA. The wooden crank windows that I was replacing were the original windows from 1931 as the wood had started to disintegrate and become stringy fibers after so many years. Well after only 3 years, the Milgard stain finished interior on 3 of the windows is looking very similar to those 78 year old ones I took out!
The Milgard tech. who came out to inspect them told me my windows were not covered by the warranty because my property is within 2 miles of the ocean! I just read the warranty, and that only applies to the hardware and to windows installed in homes in Hawaii. He took photos and said that I should hear back from the company soon. That was almost 2 weeks ago. No call or email... Not upset by having this problem but trying to remedy this problem with their customer service department has be the most frustrating experience I've had as a customer.
Their Customer Support Department is ABYSMAL and INCOMPETENT. They've supposedly ordered the replacement parts 4 times, all with mistakes. Nobody takes responsibility or ownership of the problem. They promise follow-up and fail EVERY time. If you intend to do business with this company, be aware. Even the employees I speak with tell me they are a communications disaster and basically shrug their shoulders as I beg for help to resolve a broken window I can't close in subzero temperatures.

Hi Thomas - I want to apologize for what you've experienced with us so far. We have always taken great pride in excellent customer service and it sounds like we really fell short. I'd like to help. Can you please email me at social@milgard.com? Thank you.

Buyer Beware! This is my HORRIFIC story dealing with Milgard Windows & Doors (https://www.milgard.com/). We had an appointment to replace 9 windows under warranty on our home on 9/7/2017. When the service technicians arrived they did not have the correct windows with them so we had to reschedule service for Nov 2017. When they arrived in Nov at 8:00 PM they determined that the measurements taken on 9/7/2017 were incorrect and they found additional windows that needed to be replaced (13 in total) so they need to rescheduled the install for Jan 8, 2018 (this was the earliest that they could come to our house).
Here we are in Jan 8, 2018 and they do not have all the windows once again, in fact, they only have 6 windows. The level of incompetence with this company is astounding! I have looked at all options to remedy this situations by talking with the manager to talking confirming with the call center that they had all my windows on order. None of this helped! Based on legal advice, I have decided to let them install the 6 windows that they brought. Again, Buyer Beware!

We purchased our custom built home over three years ago. Several large picture windows were bad at the time but I didn’t know where to find information on the windows. So I spend a lot of time researching them and making phone calls which took weeks to get calls back. Now to find out the warranty expired just two months ago. Milgard will not even send anyone out to look at the windows. It is apparent that the seal on the windows has been broken some time ago by the amount of debris on the inside of the entire windows. Plus you can see the suction cup marks from the windows being put together. Super poor quality and very bad customer service. Very disappointed.

Hi Sheila - I'm so sorry to hear about this. The warranty is for the person who purchases the windows. I'm sorry they did not convey that to you with the sale of the home. If you would like a Milgard service tech to visit your home, there would be a fee associated with that. Please let me know if you would like that option by contacting social@milgard.com. Thank you.

We have had to have 20 plus windows replaced (some of them twice). The service just gets worse. In April 2017 I called for 3 windows. Measurements were not done until June. Fast forward to January 2018 and I am still waiting for 2 windows. My service appointments: #1 didn't load windows on truck; #2 wrong grid pattern; #3 window broken on truck; #4 forgot to put window on truck; #5 window made incorrectly; and today #6 they just never showed up for the appointment.
I have a phone message giving time and date. We were home all day waiting. No one even called. I have missed work 6 times and moved furniture (including a piano) 6 times and still no windows! To make things worse, when I call they will say sorry and schedule me again 2 months out. That will happen after I spend 30 minutes on hold waiting for someone to answer. Our home builder has stopped using Milgard because of poor customer service. Poor quality windows and horrible service.

I purchased Milgard windows for my entire home in 2009. It was easily the worst decision of my life!! Every winter these windows freeze almost solid on the inside. The first thing I did was check my humidity levels, they were ok, 25-30%. I have had Milgard service out multiple times and they try to appease me by doing trivial things like replace the felt around the seals, no help at all! We're in the middle of one of the worst cold spells in years and I can't shut any blinds at night due to the issue. I still wake up to several inches of ice at the bottom and middle of the almost every window! My mother in law has my same home one block away and I helped her buy another brand of window last year, no problems at all. Be warned and stay away!

Their warranty is ridiculous - so if your contractor buys a window they are the original owners and you're SOL. If the window is a "lifetime warranty" then it should be covered regardless of who owns it. This isn't something you can just take and move with you. Their customer service is horrendous too. Called in for information on my windows and they don't keep any records and the girl hangs up on me. Makes me regret buying some new Milgards to match the ones I had. Stay away from this company!

Seven window seals have failed and the warranty excludes all but the original owner of the house. Be careful if purchasing a home that has Milgard windows as you might have to replace a large number of windows at your own expense. I believe the windows are defective as I have owned several homes and never experienced this seal failure that results in trapped moisture between the window panes. Do not recommend purchasing this brand.

Hi Yvonne - I'm sorry to hear about your frustration. The Full Lifetime Warranty is for the person who purchases the windows. I have a house full (~14) of Milgard windows from 2003 and 2010. They are fiberglass low E with panes. So far a total of 7 windows have "failed" in my San Francisco home. When you call to report the problem, no one calls back, when you email, sometimes you get a response. By my experience is that they take 4 to 6 months to come out and measure the window, and another several months to come out and fix it. Here's the latest: In January 2017 I reported online and on the phone that the seal between 3 of our casement windows had broken and there was moisture between the glass. They came out in April 2017 and measured the 3 windows. The soonest they could come out was the end of Sept 2017, but the day before they called to say, "Whoops, we don't have the windows," so they scheduled me for Oct 24.
Then, on October 24 during service call time window, they called to say "sorry no windows, but we'll send someone out to re-measure" (they had already measured in April). I was scheduled for the windows to be fixed/reinstalled on Nov 18. This time, I called them and said "are you sure you HAVE the windows". Sure enough - whoops, still don't have the windows. I'm dealing with their Hollister office (a very non-apologetic "service" manager) and also their corporate (Tacoma) service person.
Waiting just about a year to get the windows replaced is not a warranty for me. Interesting - no one has said - "sorry" and or "can we give you a gift card", can we do something to compensate for what is clearly a lapse in service. Not sure how this company can stay in business. Meanwhile, mold is forming in the 2 bedrooms where the failed windows are. No one seems to consider this urgent. I am giving them a couple of weeks and if no windows, I am going to order new ones, and go to small claims court to get them to reimburse. Of course, I will never buy another Milgard window in my life.

I'm so sorry to hear about all the trouble you are going through. I'd like to help. Can you email me at social@milgard.com?

The original purchasers of our condo bought it as new construction in 2009. We purchased it from them in 2015. In the last year our windows have fogged extensively. I called Milgard in October of 2017, and they said that the warranty expired in July 2017 because the windows were manufactured in 2007. Our condo was not even built then! The warranty says it starts on the date of PURCHASE of new construction, and extends to subsequent purchasers for 10 years. The rep actually quoted this language to me & then insisted the warranty expired 10 years from the date of manufacture. Guess it is time to head to small claims court. Very disappointing and frustrating!

Hello Felisa - thank you for taking the time to contact us about this. Our Warranty states that: "The Warranty starts on the date of purchase of the Home as new construction or the installation of Milgard windows or doors." All we need is the documentation to show the date the original owners purchased the home to show that the 10 Year Extended coverage is still valid. "Second owner" windows failed massively in January rainstorms. A contractor built 3 homes and decided to live in one of them till the market downturn improved. My friends bought one house. I bought my place when the contractor decided it was time to sell. I was the first PURCHASER of the home. Both my windows and those of my neighbors failed. Yet Milgard callously claims, by fiddling with English, that I am the second owner. I am dangling in the wind. Don't buy from this company.

Hello Helen - I'm so sorry that the terms of the Full Lifetime Warranty were not made clear to you when you purchased the home. Apparently, after reading the other similar complaints on this site, we're not alone. But here's a brief description of our very poor service: On June 13, 2017 we ordered double French doors (with sidelight windows) for our home; they were delivered to Home Depot in Pinetop, AZ over 2 months later. They replaced a huge window that looks out into the woods. We had a custom home builder/contractor do the installation and saw that the door unit was off by 3/8", meaning they were wider at the bottom than the top! Have to lift up on the door and slam it shut. Contractor waited on the phone for 45 minutes, and ordered another exact replacement from P.O.#**, asking for an "expedite", which now seems comical. Obviously, we cannot add final molding, stain and seal the interior or install some shades for privacy. The contractor stuffed some insulation into the side cracks and nailed boards onto the bottom to keep out bugs and critters.
I spoke briefly with the manager of sales, who did not apologize for the error, but told me to contact Home Depot and that it would take at least 40 days to build another replacement door. The door size was larger than the window we removed and was configured as per info on the Milgard website, the contractor's framing was spot-on. HD is being very helpful on our behalf. I have left many phone messages for the manager of sales to return my call (again, pretty comical) and she's always on a "conference call". I need more info about the new door as far as reference numbers and time, etc. The contractor deserves to be paid for his time on the 1st install, and it will NOT be out of our account.
The second door will also NOT be out of our account... are you reading this Milgard?? It was your error! No customer service, horrible product control, otherwise I wouldn't be adding this complaint to a list. I do hope we get some help from Milgard because the door is beautiful and will add a lot to our home... it just won't close without lifting up and slamming really hard. Snow could fall early in our mountain community and that pink insulation just won't cut it! We need a new replacement door and soon. Have home with at least 5 failed window seals, including 2 skylights and sliding glass doors from Milgard. Since I am the second home owner the Lifetime Warranty doesn't apply. Not sure why buying a home should cancel out a lifetime guarantee on a window. As a home owner I have done nothing to make these windows fail... It is a failure of the manufacturing and window product itself. Of the windows in the home that do not have failed seals, they are difficult to open close. Am very disappointed with the Milgard product and would caution anyone looking to purchase these products. Especially if you are purchasing a used home.

Hi Martha - I'm so sorry to hear about what you are going through. As you have learned, the warranty is for the person who purchases the windows. On December 25, 2016 one of the main windows of my home was broken by a golf ball. No problem, I thought, I have replacement warranty on the window. Within a week I called Milgard, regarding the replacement and was scheduled for March, 2017 - which was concerning as I live on the coast of Northern California, and one pane was broken and glass shards were coming off. However, I accepted this. The day before my window replacement was due to happen, I was called and told there was a backlog on the product and that my window would not be replaced until May. Extremely frustrated at the extended timeline, I left messages for the unnamed supervisor which were never returned.
In May, the window replacement arrived, and due to inaccurate instructions on where to locate the serial number for the window, it turned out to be the wrong window. Technician indicated he would submit new order and attempt to get a rush on it. Milgard called the next week to let me know that the window replacement was scheduled for August 8. On Friday, July 28, Milgard called to tell me that the technician was unavailable to install my window on August 1 and it would now be October 12. I explained that I was told August 8, they said no, and that they would put me on a list, should an opening come up sooner.
I asked to speak to a supervisor, as we will now be approaching 10 months since my window broke, for the replacement. I left a voicemail, which has never been returned. I called again on Monday, July 31, as was told there were no openings yet, but I remained on the list, and that again, a message was left with the supervisor to contact me. I am now getting letters from my homeowners' association regarding the situation, as my home has a huge piece of plywood covering this window, on the front of my house. This company has extremely poor sense of customer service and I am unable to get any support from any managerial person at their site. I have also attempted to put a note on their Facebook page to get support, which has also been ignored. Any help you can provide is great. Thank you.

If not a single window in the entire house works properly, the windows are either poorly made or defective. I've asked Milgard to supply the parts needed to make the windows open and close. Product needs QA, Fantastic Local Service Rep. Our local contractor admitted that he tested our windows we had ordered for a 7-window replacement job. He ordered the correct windows and either he had the wrong SKU/poor sales support but it took 12 weeks for the windows to arrive after he had measured the windows several times for accuracy. The installation was a bit of a nightmare for my contractors team due to some preexisting work and conditions, but also because they were trying to hurry through it, and did not do it right the first time. Most of the windows worked 5 out of 7, but two had problems. For the two windows that did not function they were separate issues - one had been missing a catch component on the inside for the latch close and release, there was a hole but no part.
For the second, it was tricky because the window frame was bowed in, and we validated using a level. This was an alignment for the window to slide down and function to catch and close. So, fast forward to 2 months later, where my contractor only contacted his rep and not Milgard directly, we set up a call and had them come out the next day. We had the best Glendale-Phoenix service rep visit where we not only had the root cause of the window problem explained in detail to us, we had our service rep fix our issue without taking any shortcut or rushing through the job! He did all the right parts, and devised a phenomenal fix for the bowed out window (contractor issue) and left us the correct type of spray (Silicone Spray) for window maintenance. Couldn't be happier on what I feel as one of our best service calls since I have moved to Phoenix. 5 stars!

We first bought Milgard windows for our kitchen in early 2016. Two panels on one window did not open and close correctly. We were told to spray WD-40 into the tracks to help them slide smoothly. We did not do this as it seemed it could clog the wheels as normal dirt and dust got into the works. We asked for a technician to come out and find out what was wrong. We were told that they could come out after our doors were installed so they'd just have to make one trip to "tune them up."
In November of 2016, we ordered two sliding doors from Milgard. We were told there would be a six week wait for delivery. They were delivered over three months later. When installed, the doors did not slide correctly. A technician came out, but he was only there to replace a broken lock on one door. He said the doors and windows seemed to slide okay to him. He used a razor blade to cut away the weather stripping, saying that was impeding the door's ability to slide smoothly. His fix did not help at all, it just destroyed the weather stripping. The weather stripping is now hacked and uneven, some of it is below the level of the frame, rendering those areas completely useless. He also sprayed silicone into the tracks, saying that we had to do that regularly for the doors and windows to work right. All this did was make a huge mess and turned the tracks black. The doors and windows still did not open correctly.
Another technician came out and said he felt the door worked well for the little wheels they were using on them. He explained that they use the same wheel mechanism on the big sliding doors as they do on the little window panels. He said the bigger the door, the harder it should be to open. The wheels are not designed for the large doors. We live in a housing tract, the doors are not an unusual or special order size. According to this guy, by design, the heaviest door should be extremely difficult to open and close. He agreed that the bigger doors should have heavy duty wheels, but that's not what Milgard uses. He took one panel out of the window and replaced the broken wheels. That window works fine, but the other one is still stiff and difficult to open. He was unable to get it working as smoothly as the other one. To this day, it is still more difficult to open.
At this point I will say that these windows and doors, the way they slide in the tracks, are absolutely not working the way they do in Milgard's own showroom. There is no oily residue in those tracks, they do not regularly spray them with goop in an attempt to get them to work well. The windows and doors installed in our home are not as advertised, we feel like they did a bait and switch on us. I will also point out that our old doors were made in 1985 and worked smoothly and easily. They were double-paned, as the new ones are. They were also metal and "heavy" and yet, they were easily opened even by a small child. The new doors take a lot of effort, even by the technicians, to open and close. My grandkids are unable to open them at all. I am unable to use the door.
After my husband showed the contractor how the door grinds against the frame and is being scratched as it opens and closes, his distributor came out to look at it. He agreed to talk to Milgard about replacing at least that panel. He also agreed that the panel should slide more easily and there was something wrong. The next technician showed us that the panel installed was the wrong panel, wrong serial number and should not have been delivered with that frame. He promised to fix it and have it done right.
We were scheduled for today, June 13, to replace the panel. The man who showed up today had a handle in his hands. No panel. A door handle. He said he was replacing a scratched door handle. He had no information or knowledge of the door panel and said he had been scheduled for this and this only. A Milgard rep called me and said they didn't have two technicians available to install the panel. When I asked why they scheduled today to do it, then didn't actually put it on their work schedule, she put me on mute as I spoke. She came back with an amused tone and said she will schedule it for tomorrow and that's the best she can do. She didn't ask if I was available, she didn't ask if it was okay, she simply stated that they'd be here tomorrow.
After several reschedules (with my husband taking off work to be here), after having them tell me that I'm standing in the wrong position to open the windows, after them trying to convince us that big doors should be nearly impossible to open, I'm done being patient. I feel they've ripped us off and been extremely dishonest and incompetent. They've dragged their feet for months and my house is in an unfinished state with Milgard products that are substandard and don't work properly.
Milgard is not good quality, their customer service is extremely poor and they really don't care about their customer's satisfaction. You have to hound them to even get them to deliver doors and windows that you paid for, within the time frame that they set. Apparently you can't expect the products to work as advertised, either. I would put in an order number, but they haven't given me one. My contractor asked for it and was told that no one in the office currently knows it or can access it.

Before telling my story, to those that may be reading reviews: Based on my experience I would never ever purchase a Milgard product, ever!! Look elsewhere and cross Milgard off your list. I own a condominium in a building with 5 small businesses on the ground level and 5 condominiums above on the second floor and loft (3rd flr). The windows were manufactured in January 2006, and the building was constructed in 2006. At around 8 years of age, shortly after I took ownership of one of the units and became a board member of our little association, I took on trying to work with Milgard, because a few of the residential units particularly on the 3rd floor gable had leaky/foggy windows (8). By the time I got a hold of Milgard, the windows were 10 years and 2 months old. Well I found because the ground floor is commercial even though none of their windows are a problem, the lifetime warranty is only 10 years. See where is this going?
Counting each piece of glass, now that the windows are 11 years old, 29 out of 39 have failed. These are just on the front of the building. Milgard regional office in Denver refuses to honor the warranty, refuses to elevate my complaint, or even consider doing the right thing and honoring the warranty to repair and replace the glass. Now if this were only a few, maybe, ok. 75% failure rate on the windows and Milgard refuses to do anything about it. Poor quality, poor product, and pathetically poor customer service and warranty. This company should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. 5 owners are now strapped with over $8000 in out of pocket repairs, due to poor products and service from Milgard. Today while cleaning my windows, I discovered another window on the opposite side now leaking. So the saga continues.

However, since then, we have lost the seal on 2 more windows that they won't replace. That makes half the windows in our house have failed. When I walk through our neighborhood, it's clear that a lot of people are having the same problems. You can see pink, swirly windows all over the place. Since our neighborhood is still what I would consider newer, it's pretty bad. Obviously these windows are of inferior quality. The home we had been living in was 15 years old and had only lost the seal on one window. Really disappointed in the overall quality.

I have had 4-5 Milgard windows fail over the past 10 years. I recently waited several months for technicians to come out and measure a large window that cracked and lost its seal, and a small window with a crack in the vinyl. I was promised a repair date of May 19th and made numerous appointments and arrangements to accommodate the repair. I recently got a phone call from Milgard to schedule the repair even though I had scheduled a date already. Milgard claims the first person I scheduled with months ago failed to enter the date. I am now left with a lot of additional work and rescheduling. Additionally, Milgard says they cannot make the repair until July. I first called them in January.
I have asked to speak to a supervisor and have yet to receive a phone call from one despite two phone calls. I used to respect Milgard and the repairs I needed years ago were made promptly and as scheduled. They obviously have a change of attitude and I have heard from others that it is not uncommon to wait many months for a warranty repair, if Milgard honors the warranty at all.

I have broken glass which has been stated to me by the contractor that is under warranty for life. I spoke with a representative for Milgard windows and he said a service ticket would be written up for the repair. That was over three weeks ago. 10 days ago I asked for an update with no response. Not getting much help from Lowe's either. Milgard's service is proving to be absolutely horrible.

Milgard follow-up on my original review. After an email exchange explaining the details of the situation, I received a phone call from someone at Milgard explaining that it would be covered by the warranty since it was an accidental discharge. I heard from the glass repair company later that day. The pane was replaced and all is well. Not sure why the first person with whom I spoke didn't just resolve this then, but he was clearly not interested in helping at all. Thank you to Milgard for following up and seeing this was correctly resolved.
Original Review: Feb. 8, 2017
After contacting Milgard to explore a case which might have been under warranty, I found out their glass breakage warranty is worthless. There are no reasonable conditions under which it would ever be valid. The person on the phone told me that a baseball coming through the window would be covered, but only if it is accidental. If it was intentional, it is NOT covered, as it is considered civil disobedience. How would one ever prove in court whether it was intentional or unintentional?? In our case, it was an accidental discharge of a BB gun. However, even though it was an accident, because they consider it a weapon, it is considered civil disobedience and not covered.
So, just be forewarned: The product is good but the warranty is worthless so don't make your decision based upon that. As a result, I feel I was misled because the salesman told us that "a child throwing a toy through the window" would be covered. Of course, that would only be true if it was an accident, according to Milgard. Do not pay extra.

We put 35K worth of windows in our home based on the lifetime warranty Milgard offered. We called them in November of 2016 because 1 of the 5 3X5s had failed and had so much moisture in it that we couldn't see the view of the water, which is why we put in 5 large windows. They had us measure the window and told us they wouldn't send anyone out until 1/25/17. I was disappointed because I had to look at this window all through the holidays. They sent one man out yesterday. He said they never told him the size of the window and he didn't have a piece big enough and also it was a two man job and they only sent one.
We called today to make sure they would send someone else out soon but they said it would be another 6 weeks before they can re-schedule us. A lifetime warranty is great if they have people to service the windows but apparently they don't. My husband tried to get a supervisor on the line but the woman with whom he was speaking could hardly speak English and said someone would call him tomorrow. I took a day off from work to meet this repairman who wasn't the least bit sorry that he didn't have any glass on the truck to do the job.

The dealer won't schedule the repair until Milgard settles how they will pay them. I call Milgard Sacramento office for the fourth time in 2 months and am finally told they won't work with this dealer and will have their own people take care of it and will call me. 10 days later. No calls. I call the Tacoma headquarters and was told they don't have their own repair people. Next, I was passed on to someone's voicemail and once again left my message of despair that the warranty department has failed me. How many more wet, rainy days must I tape and towel my window until they can figure out how pay their contracted dealers?

We had four windows and two sliding doors [Milgard Tuscany Windows & Sliding Doors (Vinyl)] recently installed to replace 40 year old aluminum windows and doors. We live near the beach where it is sometimes very windy. After installation, the wind penetrated the windows and vibrated our window blinds, and also our slider leaked air which cause the swaying of our vertical blinds. The air leaks also defeated the insulation effect of the new double-pane glass as our rooms are as cold or colder than when we had our old windows in.
Milgard sent out a service rep who added some more insulation material to the corners of the windows. This did not work and we requested a second service rep for help (total time to get the two reps: about 3 months). The second service rep said that the windows and doors conformed to their technical specifications and that there was nothing he could do. How could we be charged over $12k and have windows that do not keep the wind out? It looks like there will be litigation with our installer and Milgard over this matter. It is a very sad state of affairs.

When I spoke to the lady at Milgard I asked if my son threw a baseball through it would it be covered. She said, 'yes'. I asked if a week later he did the same thing if it would be covered she said 'yes'. I asked if a week later if it happened again if it would be covered. The lady said "we will want to talk to your kid"! So far all has been good.
I noticed on my first remod the first time I closed them all how quiet it was. For my two rear sliders I chose Anderson. Honestly I don't know why. They have chips from my dog and only come with a ten year guarantee. I also was told that they are owned by Home Depot a company which I now avoid. They have products made specifically for them and the quality is not there. I read about these nightmares with windows rotting etc. I have had none of these issues. Maybe because I live in SO California? However I do know you must have sufficient overhang to avoid water striking your windows directly. Anyway very happy with Milgard and would not hesitate to use them again. As far as my builder? He was a moron and I had to constantly watch him.

When I purchased my home in 2010, the existing but new Milgard slider and window was already defective, with extreme streaking on the inside between the dual panes of glass. I called Milgard at that time since the windows were newer but they claimed the warranty went with the original homeowner and not the house. After much hassle and many phone calls, Milgard finally agreed to replace the windows. They were not nice about it. Their customer service at that time was so poor and their attitude so snarky, I was shocked since I had previously assumed Milgard was a good company.
Fast forward 6 years and the slider window they replaced has now become defective again. The streaking is covering the moving side of the slider. It is a complete eyesore and we live on a lake and our views are important to us. Well today when I called Milgard again about the issue in hopes they would stand behind their product and offer us a replacement, they basically told me it's not their problem. They told me I'd have to go through a local distributor to pay for the replacement, or I could go through them at a considerably higher cost.
The representative in the service and quality control was so cold and disinterested; she had a complete lack of concern or even consideration for my concern -- twice now the windows are defective. She never once said, "I'm so sorry for your experience." And she certainly never said that Milgard stands behind their products! I built a brand new home 3 years ago and had ordered new doors and windows from Milgard, for about $30,000. My problems started as soon as the products started being delivered with wrong sizes, wrong styles, wrong type, defective etc... our construction was repeatedly delayed for months and months to wait for the right door and window to be built again.
Right after installation the other problems started showing up: the window and door material was deforming, they shrink and expand, crack the stucco, and around the edges gaps started to appear in the walls, water started getting in the walls. They agreed it was poor material and had to be changed. It is now 3 years... and our house has been like a never ending construction site! We have hardly been able to use our patio and backyard. The doors that they finally replaced last month cannot be opened and closed properly! They are cracking and breaking off. The rest of our windows are also have moved and damaged the walls. I honestly am the most patient guy in the world, and I kept thinking that they will correct this, but finally I am tired of it. Thanksgiving and Christmas are just two month away and my family is going to be visiting us... but we are still in limbo.

In June, we contacted Milgard and got on their schedule to have a service call. 7 weeks later, the serviceman arrived with two of the four units, as the two others were not shipped for the repair. The serviceman repaired two of the single hungs, as he did not have enough items to repair the others. 6-7 weeks later, they replaced the remaining two failed units, but failed to bring items to repair the single hung windows. We are now 5 months into this service request and no date to resolve the remaining repairs. I ordered 11 Milgard windows and 1 Milgard sliding glass door through a window contractor. Every unit had defects in them. Whether it was scratches in the glass or defect painting, or careless packaging, all the units came from the factory defect in one way or another. I ordered a premium color the exterior and it was sprayed on defectively to the point that one could clearly see the white vinyl underneath or see the paint oversprayed. There was absolutely no paint quality control from the factory. The hardware on nearly all the windows had scratches, and had to be replaced, one window had a chipped vent that needed to be replaced. (It was replaced with another vent that was also chipped, and we are still waiting for another vent). Both vents on the wood clad windows were defective as if someone forget to fasten the corners together. The sliding glass door was missing all the enhanced locking mechanisms.
To date, since February 2016, the date of installation, I have gone back and forth with Milgard and my contractor to rectify these problems. To date, the Milgard service tech has come to my home twice now, and each time, something has been missing from my order. I just purchased a home that is now 13 years old and has Milgard windows. I'm the third owner of the house and will admit that it seems as if the prior owner wasn't great about taking care of the house, though there are no substantive structural problems with this house. On inspection, the one thing the inspector noted was that there were a couple of windows that had locking mechanisms that wouldn't lock, which seemed small enough an issue to deal with later on.
However, since moving in (and with the warmer weather leading to more bugs) I'm noticing a serious problem with some of the windows in the house. Very small, tiny flies are somehow able to get in through the tops of the windows and I cannot figure out where there might be gaps or imperfections that are allowing them in. These are fully shut windows that appear to have no problems, with locking mechanisms that work properly. It's happening now with at least 5 windows that are bottom opening (rather than side opening).
I had called Milgard when first moving in because of the locking mechanism issue and was told the "lifetime warranty" was really only applicable to first owners, which seems to make the name "lifetime" a misnomer for this warranty. I have to admit that I don't know a lot about this company but based on my limited amount of interaction and what I'm seeing with the product, which isn't that old and shouldn't have this sort of problem, I would probably recommend you look elsewhere for your windows.

We contacted the company about it and asked them if they could at least give us a special price on replacement and their rep laughed at us. I would highly recommend avoiding this company. Their products may be cheap, but you get what you pay for.

We purchased around 16 windows and 4 sliders from a local small window company. They were all for our new house, therefore new construction windows, Tuscany series. All windows and doors arrived in one shipment on the day they were supposed to come. All screens were there. Everything was well packaged, no scratches. Every window fit the opening it was meant to fill, so that was huge and a nice experience.
4 1/2 years into this I will say: I don't think those windows are very tight. Air and very fine dirt find its way in and I don't like it. Besides the inside runners carry water when it rains. Why is that? When water comes in, so can cold/hot air and dust. And I just saw that we are starting to have mold in-between the panels along the sealants! We replaced windows on a house in FL near the beach, those were Simonton Windows - now that are windows, they were awesome! No noise, water, air, dust.... Great locking mechanism.... Very, very good windows. Milgard - not so much. It's not even been 5 years!

I have been waiting for months to receive my discount check for windows that I purchased via Lowes by Milgard. I have sent several message to the corporate office and nothing. I had the chance and choice of other vendors but I chose Milgard based upon information that I read, recommendations from consumer reports on 3 pane windows and their guarantee. Also the discount would save me several hundred dollars on 20K in vinyl windows. To this date, nothing.

We bought our house new from a builder in 2009. A year ago one of the windows (all house windows are Milgard) just broke while my wife was in the bedroom. She heard a cracking noise and there was nothing that hit it from the outside, it just broke on its own from stress I guess. We called Milgard and they sent someone to fix it free of charge. The same thing happened a few days ago to the downstairs window in my home office. I was in the room and heard the window crack and now it is broken with 3 cracks from top to bottom. I called Milgard customer service and this time the treatment changed. They denied my request to have it repaired and I asked to speak to a manager. The manager asked me to email her pictures which I did and when I called her she said she could see that there was nothing to indicate it was hit from the outside and she ruled "earth settlement" as the cause but said she will deny my claim anyway!
She was rude and told me they only fixed the first one as a courtesy and when I asked her what does the company mean by a lifetime warranty she did not like my question and ended the phone call. I called the next day and asked to speak to a manager. I was told none were available and they could do nothing for me. They took my contact information and I have yet to hear back from them. I called the builder and they told me they no longer do business with this company. I am stuck with a broken window that will cost me hundreds to repair, and I am praying none of the other windows in the house break on their own in the future, something that has never happened before and I lived in many homes.

Unfortunately, our experience is similar to many listed here in both overall Milgard product quality and customer service. Our home is approaching 10 years since its original construction with Milgard windows. We have replaced several sets due to fogging between panes, ghost fingerprints/swirls inside glass panes, and general corrosion inside seals on southern facing exposures. We live on the leeward side of Santa Cruz mountains with low moisture levels. This shouldn't be happening. Overall, the root cause appears to be poor quality seals and reliability. Milgard's warranty lifetime replacement is slow, over two months with our most recent incident, and definitely not a positive when considering buying their windows. Service is average at best and I wouldn't recommend their windows or doors to anyone serious about their home investment. Look elsewhere and save yourself frustration and time.

To all customers when you buy the Milgard products, you need to remember about good and bad companies. To me a good company always stands behind their products. So you all know, my next windows replacement won't be the products from Milgard.

On 8/23 I purchased a Milgard sliding door from Home Depot and paid them to ship it directly to me. At the time, home depot said the door will arrive on 9/7. I scheduled a contractor to come out on 9/16 to install it. On 9/8 I called Home Depot asking about the delivery of my door. They checked and said the door said it would ship to me on 9/29. I had to cancel my contractor and find a new contractor. On 9/29 I waited until 5PM and still did not receive my door. I called Home Depot and they said that they will find what happened to the door the next day. I again had to cancel my contractor (costing me cancellation fee). On Wednesday, 9/30 Home Depot calls me to tell me that Milgard delivered the door to their Home Depot store (despite the fact that the order clearly stated to ship it to me).
They then told me it would arrive on 10/1 from Milgard. At 9:30AM on 10/1 I called Milgard directly to determine when the shipment would arrive that day. They said between 10 and 2PM after it took them some time to find my address in their system. At 2PM on 10/1 the door still hadn't arrived. I called them back to ask the ETA. They then told me it was scheduled to arrive on 10/2. The day my contractor was scheduled to work on the door. I swore at them on the phone and told them this is no way to run a business and then escalated to a supervisor. The supervisor said they would get it on a truck on 10/1. It did arrive, but the vinyl was scraped and had black marks on it. They didn't protect it during shipping. The sliding doors also arrive without the screens. They said they would make a second delivery to bring them that day, but they never arrived.
I called them on 10/2 to complain there were no screen doors and they said they would deliver them to me on 10/9. After the installation the door did not roll easily on the slider and it did not lock well. The installer (who installs these doors for a living) said the door locking mechanism appeared to be faulty. I called Milgard and they said they would send someone out on 10/14 to inspect the issue. I am disappointed with how Milgard does business. Their shipping department needs higher qualified individuals to run it and they need to put more effort into delivering a quality product the first time. It seems like I am not the only one to give a poor review about these issues.

Milgard sent me an email asking me to write a review of the experience I have with my recent purchase. I promptly did that, expressing my frustration with my experience. Guess what? They didn't like my comments, and refuse to publish it unless I re-write the review! I am going to publish my original review here - without being censored by Milgard:
"Milgard's service is horribly lousy. I purchased over $16,000 worth of windows in June 2015, through Home Depot. One of the windows arrived broken, and needed to be sent back for reglazed. I took over 2 weeks for Milgard to just pick up the window!!! I have wasted hours on the phone talking to the sales/support rep, to make sure that they come pick up the broken windows. However, the worst is yet to come!
Upon fixing/reglazing the window, Milgard failed miserably in its promise to deliver the window on time. I was promised a confirmed delivery date - 3 times. Each time Milgard failed to deliver!!! Look guys, this is not how you treat your customer. You don't promise a delivery date, and failed to fulfill your promise. I have a new construction going on, and your repeated failure to deliver had kept my construction schedule hostage!!! The stucco can't be done if there is no window, and Milgard has done an excellent screwing their customer! Please respond to my comments - I want you to give me a good explanation. I am very upset over how you handled the whole situation."

I replaced all windows for my current home 15 years ago with Milgard Windows through an independent authorized installer. My previous home had vinyl windows with tilt-back cleaning and I loved them. My current Milgard windows are fiberglass frame with wood clad interiors. I was offered a five-year warranty on the installer's work and a lifetime warranty on the Milgard windows.
The wood clad was easy to finish and matched nicely against the interior wood trim. The fiberglass exterior looks okay but is not that much better looking than vinyl. The fiberglass is white but paintable for those who want a different color. We did not paint the exterior. The cost difference may have been more than its worth depending on who you ask. The customer service has been great for replacement glass.
I have many very large windows that are over seven feet tall and several feet wide and they are in high weather exposure locations. The first generation had about a three-year fail rate on the glass panel seals and were professionally replaced by Milgard on warranty. Since then, the replacements have held up longer, even on the huge windows in the harsh exposure locations. I am the original owner and purchaser of the windows.

Interesting enough one backordered window delivered a couple days later, has scratch marks at the same height like the ones from the first delivery. Sales Representative came out within one week to assess the damage (I give an extra star for that). Panels shall be replaced, but outer frame can only be touched up, because my contractor already installed them. I was told that the approximate wait time for a service representative to come out is 6 weeks for fixing the issue. I will sit tight and hope that Milgard will live up to their promise and make it right. When contacting Milgard I was told that the lifetime warranty is limited to the original owner and does not extend to a subsequent owner. I believe that Milgard's claim of a lifetime warranty is misleading, since you won't find out that you are not covered until you contact them. In fact, the warranty is not on the window, but rather the owner.

I contracted thru a local Milgard approved company to have my French doors replaced. When they came with the crated doors, they could not get them unlocked to install them. So they called and Milgard who sent two men out to check the problem. They manhandled the doors in every which way, and were very rough on the handles, causing me concern that they would break the handles, the glass or the doors. Finally, they got them open and made some adjustments but then told me that the locking mechanism was faulty and they would have to order parts before they could fix these doors. In the meantime, the installer finished installing and left. I never heard back from Milgard on when they would be coming, but finally I called Milgard myself to see what was going on.
A nice lady told me they were scheduled to come out on Tuesday, and my call was made on Friday, after a delay already of 3 days. This was the first I had this info, as nobody called me from Milgard. She said it was the earliest they could come as they do not work on weekends and that there were many orders ahead of mine.
My primary complaint is with quality control. Those doors and locking mechanisms SHOULD have been checked for proper working order before leaving the factory. Instead of a one day installation, I will be lucky to have a one week installation. In the meantime, I am hanging fire here, don't feel I can leave home until I can lock and secure these doors. I am in the process of ordering a third door but am very disappointed with the quality of Milgard products and with their customer service. Both have been deteriorating since Milgard was bought out by Masco. End of complaint... It seems that quality control doesn't mean much anymore. Door was purchased, measured and installed by Home Depot. It had issues from the moment it was installed. Security lock didn't work, door had scratches and gouges, door made rattling noise when opened or closed. Home Depot took weeks to come out and check it. Then when they did return, they had the wrong parts. Then reordered parts, but when they finally came in weeks later, they still didn't bring right parts. Then Home Depot insisted Milgard come out, they sent representative out weeks later, and instead of fixing original issues, they now saw door was installed wrong as the threshold is flat and one weep hole is covered.
Their solution is to either tear out whole new door, build up threshold so it will drain properly in case of a 100 year rainstorm, or they will take my warranty away. They still didn't fix the original issues or bring the original parts. Now Home Depot and Milgard are fighting with each other. Milgard now wants me to sign a paper excluding me from having a warranty on door unless they have Home Depot take out door and raise threshold up, causing me or my family to potentially trip over threshold when coming in or out of door. This is not acceptable to me, and I still have a defective, non functioning sliding door. This has been and still is, a nightmare. Do not buy Milgard windows and do not have Home Depot install them.

I have been recommending Milgard Windows to people for decades due to their lifetime warranty - if you are the original owner of the home, it's awesome. I had been told the warranty is transferable to a second owner for 10 years after purchase - wrong! The ten years goes from date of manufacture of the windows - not date of transfer. The home you purchase may be 10 years old (like mine) and the warranty is expired. The information on their website about warranty is not accurate - I would need to look up historical warranties on their site to find out which warranty applies to me. Disappointing. That was the thing that Milgard had going for them to be recommended all these years. I won't do that anymore.

When we arrived to our home January 2015 we hired a man to wash the windows and he pointed out some fairly severe scratches on 3 Sliding glass doors. We just want them fixed as we bought and paid for new windows. Neither company seems to care whether we are satisfied or not?
Milgard is a very reputable NW company that always takes care of their customers so I am quite surprised that a dealer such as Indian Wells Glass and Mirror is allowed to rep their line with such poor customer service. They were quick and efficient getting them installed. Knowing what I know now I would have insisted they clean and we inspect the windows and doors immediately. I thought that is what I was paying a contractor for in the first place. When someone pays over 200k for a remodel and 11k for windows you expect better.

I walked around with the evaluator, who wanted us to know they were doing us a favor replacing 46 windows that leaked out of a total of 62 windows in our home. I expected these windows would last for at least 30 years when we purchased them.
The installers left the windows smeared so we had to pay again to have the windows cleaned that were replaced. This was when we noted one window with finger prints in between the panes and two that had several scratches on the panes. Once again we called and they scheduled workers out to replace the 3 windows. The workers put in the first window and discovered it had scratches on the glass. They looked at the other two windows and found one of them was also scratched so did not put it in. They installed the 3rd window which looked ok with the afternoon lighting . We discovered that window also scratches when we had the morning light.
We contacted Judy in the Sacramento office, who indicated she was the manager and would inspect the replacements herself to make sure they were good before shipping them out. Judy has cancelled two appointments because she has found scratches on the replacement windows. How can this company survive with this kind of quality control?? After 7 months, we still have 3 windows that need to be replaced when Milgard can manufacture a window without defaults. So much for advertising. I have an expensive WoodClad window that "weeps." There are several other similar windows in my residence that don't have this problem. A technician came to look at the problem. Said I breathe in the area which causes the condensation. Guess I don't breathe in the other areas of my home. So several thousand dollars for that window. Won't buy Milgard again!

Milgard Vinyl Low E 2 Bar windows and patio door. First incident occurred immediately after noticing a bubble in one of the windows and no insulation on the inside frame of another window. Milgard took care of the problem. The second incident occurred after about 1 and 1 half years. The bottom track of the patio door cracked and Milgard would not replace it stating it was due to people stepping on it. Imagine that, people stepping on a threshold? Third and final straw was after 8 years the vinyl had become so faded and discolored that the windows looked 30 years old at least. Milgard told me that the damage was due to the sun and that was considered normal wear and tear.
The windows look so bad that they need replacement. I previously had the original aluminum windows for almost 40 years but was remodeling and wanted a new fresh look. That new fresh look is gone after only 8 years as Milgard vinyl windows do not hold up to sunlight and they call that normal wear and tear with no specific written amount of time covered for this in their "Full Lifetime Warranty". My neighbor bought the same windows at the same time and has the same problem. If you choose to purchase Milgard vinyl windows for your home then please for your sake keep them away from sunlight. The technician also told me that cleaning them with Windex contributed to the problem. A window with a "Full Lifetime Warranty" that does not hold up to sunlight and whose glass cannot take Windex. Nothing in the brochure explains any of this. I will seek satisfaction in the court system.

I ordered 2 double hung Essence windows from our local retailer for a remodel I did. Once the contractor had installed the windows he discovered that the windows had been made and shipped with the incorrect parts to keep the windows in the open position. Our retailer (Village Hardware, Idyllwild) reported this immediately, giving all information to have the correct parts ordered and installed by a Milgard technician. This was on or about November 10, 2014. A call came to me on November 21 saying that our appointment had been canceled, but no appointment had been made, and this was the first call we had received from Milgard. Another appointment was made for the following week. The technician came (late) and took a look and left saying that they would have to order the parts. (This technician should have had the parts on his truck, since they had supposedly already been ordered via conversation with retailer.) Another appointment was set for December 9 between 12-2:00 pm. (Note that we are now 4 weeks in wait.)
I called the Temecula, CA office and spoke with John. He had a snarky attitude saying that it was just now 2:00. He put me on hold for 10 minutes and came back on the line saying that the parts had not come in and that he was sorry that no one had called. He said he would reset the appointment for Dec. 11 after noon, but would call to confirm. Again by Wednesday, Dec 10 I had hear nothing. This time I again called, and was told that the parts had come in but that they were wrong. John again had very poor attitude, saying that he was calling me, but it was I who had called him. I spoke to Mary, the Customer Service Supervisor as well as the Plant Manager Dave. As it stands now I was told by Mary that they would have to get the parts from the manufacturer and that they would put a rush on it and that they would call me by Monday, Dec. 15.
I do not at all trust that the correct parts will be in anytime soon especially when the windows were built incorrectly. I run several businesses and this ordeal has crippled my business each time I have had to wait or call for virtually NO SERVICE. I have ordered Milgard products for other parts of my home, even in the same time frame as this order, and have had no issues, but this is absolutely ridiculous. I want this resolved NOW.

We bought a house in 2011 that was built in 2007. Three quarters of the windows in the house have fog between the panes. Some of the worst ones have what appears to be mildew growing between the panes. I was excited to see the warranty information on Milgard website regarding their windows. I was told that our builder, who did not survive the crash, bought the windows a month before the transferable warranty was put in the play and there was nothing they could do since we were not the original homeowners. These windows are only seven years old and need to be replaced. I asked if this was normal for their windows to be in need of replacement after seven years. I was told that the windows in question will not be able to stand up to the extreme heat and cold.
Basically Milgard knew they were selling POS windows knowing all too well that the windows are destined to be replaced and rolling the dice that when the time comes for replacement that they won't have to deal with the original homeowner. In this instance talking to their customer service is like talking to a brick wall. Their hands are tied and they cannot help. It is unbelievable to me that windows need to be replaced after seven years. We came from a house that was 60 years old with original windows and they were in better shape than the seven-year-old Milgard windows. I will never buy Milgard windows due to their treatment of their customers and urge people to do the same. I tried to post the same comments on Milgards website, but lo and behold my review was rejected.

We purchased a home recently and noticed some water in the tracks of our Milgard windows when it rains. I saw some water damage to the drywall of the garage ceiling directly below the windows on the 2nd story. We had a receipt and warranty for 1 year for a handyman who attempted to fix this for the previous home owners and he came out and looked at it. He put more caulk on top of the window, made sure the weeping holes were clear (they were draining well), we re-did the shingles at the base of the window and sealed things more. Still leaking. I even took the whole window to a shop and they re-did the weather stripping on it with no results. The water goes into the track on the inside of this horizontal sliding window and then down the inside of the wall.
I called Milgard to see if this was a common problem or they had a fix for it and they were less than helpful. They kept referring to the things that I had already done and ruled out, over and over and over. Basically they did not want to admit that the window they made could leak and cause damage to a home. The CRAZIEST thing the lady said was that the ONLY time a window would leak was when it was first put in, therefore the leak must have been happening for 15 years and neither of the other 2 home owners ever did anything about it or called Milgard or the builder. She said that hot and cold, expanding and contracting and general wear and tear could not cause a leak. There is not 15 years worth of leaking and damage and products that are not built for the long haul can fail over time, but she would not consider that as a possibility. She only offered to refer me to a Milgard dealer in the area, so I can get bad windows from them.
Currently 2 of our Milgard windows are doing the same thing and many other neighbors have said they had trouble with them too. If you run a company and want your product to have a good reputation, then things like this would be clues to investigate instead of brushing complaints off that could help them make a better long term product. You can't know if a window will actually last 30 or more years until it gets that much time under its belt. I don't need Milgard to buy me new windows, it would be nice if they would problem solve or admit that their product is crummy. The defensive stance they took right away and repeatedly referencing the same suggestions that I had already eliminated shows that they have a script for this type of thing due to it being common. They don't care.
Ford had the "let em burn" memo for the pinto and I suspect that Milgard doesn't even track or care if their product is defective, so there is no "let them leak" memo to begin with.

The next morning, all windows that were left open overnight were fogged up. The installation company said this was due to the windows being left open, and trapping warm air between the two panes. This morning I checked and three windows that were not left open were fogged up. This doesn't seem normal. I paid 1/2 of the contract price. If I do not get some satisfactory results, I will not pay the remainder ($2,200) without a lawsuit. I'll update this post as soon as I am contacted by a Milgard Rep. or an attorney.

After a house fire on Thanksgiving 2006, all of the windows and patio doors were replaced to Milgard Vinyl Classic products at my parent's house. 7 windows and 2 patio doors were installed with the thought of lifetime warranty. This was not so. We had a gimmicky restoration company with workers that weren't professional which we found out much later. My parent's had enough worries with me in the burn Intensive care unit and put their trust in their hands. Within the first rain season, the side patio door seals leaked and caused water damage to the hardwood. Forward to this weekend, the interior glass on the moving unit cracked in the heat wave. My mom described it as a loud bang and it scared the living daylights out of her at 4 am! There was small chips of glass with 3 feet of the glass I assumed anyone standing there would have been hurt.
I contacted Milgard's customer service who replied "your product is not one that is under our lifetime warranty and you have to be the original owner." I answered "we are the original owner but why not the warranty that is heavily advertised on your website." They replied "only yours and there's nothing we can do about it." I inquired more. "Aren't you guys the best in the industry?" She didn't answer. I asked if there were optional warranty and it was still a simple no. After calling a few glass installers for estimates and about Milgard, I got the notion that they are more focused on selling windows and is awful with customer support. I wanted to ask who their glass supplier is but I am sure there will not be an answer.
I have worked as a purchasing manager overseeing quality control and product development and if this was a company I worked in I'd be ashamed to work there! How can you claim to be the best and have the lifetime warranty plastered all over your website! And the customer service is way below any industry standards!

I had a serious fire in my house in 2005. I decided to reconstruct it with the best material I could buy. I worked with our local Builder's Supply, as well as with Frank **, the local Milgard representative, who visited the site. I decided to buy the WoodClad fiberglass windows and two sliding doors. The package came to $35,000. When the openings were framed and flashed, I had Mr. ** inspect the project once again, as well as a final time, before the exterior trim was applied. (While I am a Professional Engineer now, I was formerly a journeyman carpenter and builder and I have never built anything that has leaked, in this rainy, windy Pacific Northwest climate.)
The windows on the south side of the house would have leaked immediately, but I had tarped the south wall in as much as the cedar shingling was not completed. This was completed in the spring of 2006. The Milgard units were flashed and counter-flashed with Stainless Steel flashing. The two sliders (8-0 x 8-0 and 6-0 x 6-8) as well as two 4-0 x 8-0 fixed sidelights leaked immediately. Sometimes water would appear halfway up the glazing. Contrary to vinyl windows, the corners of the frame were not welded (or sealed adequately).
I raised this issue with my vendor and then to Milgard where I was finally dealing with someone who had no interest in resolving this, but offered me $7000 to go away. I was insulted. Replacement windows from Marvin were $12000 at the time. Every time I called, a sarcastic man named Pat ** (in charge of complaints, apparently), I was forced to listen to a long-recorded spiel about Milgard's "Lifetime Warranty". It is a myth. Large builders in my area who had a similar experience to me, had their windows replaced. This model of window is apparently not manufactured anymore, or at least not sold in this area. Googling shows up hundreds of complaints centered around the WoodClad product. Milgard is despicable. If there were any ambitious lawyers around here, I would sue them for damages and loss of use.
THIS WAS ABSOLUTELY THE WORST PURCHASE I HAVE EVER MADE AND MILGARD HAS DEMONSTRATED THEMSELVES TO BE THE LEAST REPUTABLE VENDOR I HAVE EVER DEALT WITH! AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE!

First I want to say that I've had very good, easy dealings with Milgard. I've had to have them send out technicians twice, so far, and both times have been a breeze and no charge. Now, three of my front windows have broken seals and I'm going to have to call them again. That is what brought me to this site to see if others were having the same problems with their windows. The answer is "YES" but that isn't the problem that prompted me to write! It's the one about the windows causing things to burn and melt, as others have mentioned. Someone said that this isn't true but it ABSOLUTELY IS! I have a large, white jasmine vine that runs along a fence and over a gate. At certain times of the year I started noticing a burnt spot and I couldn't figure out what was causing it.
One day I was going out for my mail and I got "hit' by a hot beam of light that was reflecting off of my second story window and that's when it dawned on me. Right now, in the spring, the vine is green, ready to bloom with no burnt leaves but that won't be for much longer. Once the days are longer and the sun is at the right angle it will hit that spot and burn a hole that's about 1 1/2 feet in diameter. BTW, I'm sure that even at this time of year the beam is hitting some spot but not where I can see the damage. I think that, this year, I will clip paper up there to see if it burns a hole in it (I'm SURE that it will). New windows are expensive but I'm considering getting new ones. So far I've had one leak and four windows break seals. Again, Milgard has been very nice and easy to deal with so NO complaints in that department.
I'm attaching photos! One of how the vine looks today, 4/5/14, and I will post another once the burning begins (sorry, I never thought to take one with the burning). Also, one of my front windows showing the suction mark you get when a seal goes bad. My other windows just have fogging at the bottom. I'm sure that this isn't a problem only with Milgard. If other companies have double pained windows, with a UV coating, I'm sure that it's an issue for them as well. I wonder, how many fires have been started by them? Next I'm going to Google, "fires caused by windows"! I live in California.

I have wasted (and continue to do so) so much time trying to get them to honor their warranty. All 10 new Milgard windows installed in my condo had problems and defects - not just with the installation but with the windows themselves. There is a reflective beam that reflects from the window on to our patio furniture - as if you were holding a magnifying glass in the sun on the chair - we sat and watch the fabric and cushion melt. Hard to believe? but TRUE. Now is where the problems start - just try and get a return call from their customer service dept - dare you, just try! I left numerous voice mails, and no response, so I noticed on the main Milgard website it gave you an option to "Leave the President a Message" - well after I left that message I got a call, finally.
Now we are in the process of asking for compensation for the totally ruined patio set chairs. Just wanted to express my disappointment in Milgard Windows. First, I was the Western US regional manager for a very large private building supply company for 11 years and now I am a custom home builder in Northern Ca. Very familiar with many different window manufacturers, but maybe not as much as I thought. Milgard absolutely blows their own horn about having a Lifetime Warranty. They use it as a selling point. Well, I have a house with about 60 Milgard windows and I am having a problem with one, (for the time being) and apparently the warranty works like this. Original owner covered. If 2nd owner then the warranty retros back to manufacturing date on window and is only good for 5 years from that date. Milgard has done a great job of researching the fact that most homeowners are in their homes for about 5-7 years. This is perfect for a company to never have to deal with any problems that their windows have, sure there will always be those for the individuals who actually stay in their house for more than 5 years, but it is a numbers game and Milgard has figured it out.
On the bright side there really are manufacturers out there that I have used that truly offer TRANSFERABLE warranties. I would highly recommend Andersen and Jeld-Wen as a couple who actually understand what it means to BACK THE PRODUCT THEY MANUFACTURE!! I can honestly say that I have never written a complaint online like this. I am just concerned that if 1 windows seal goes bad, that could easily start happening with the other 59 in my house. Well, I guess Milgard knows that their product is DEFINITELY INFERIOR to some of their competition out there. Why do I say that, how do I know? WARRANTY. Because if you truly make a great product, no matter what the product is, then you would stand behind IT (no matter who owns it now) and not behind some real housing statistics. Truth is in the details and Milgard shows how much they believe in their own product by saying that we will stand behind 20% of our windows out there and OH, by the way, we won't have to worry about how well our windows perform on the other 80%! Isn't that great news Mr. CEO! Shhhh, we don't want everyone to know our product SUCKS! Signed, Unfortunately stuck with ** windows!

We replaced every window in the house using Milgard products. Placed them in August of this year. We also bought what any sane person would call an extremely expensive fiberglass door. The "door" consists of two swing out doors that make a five-foot opening. A sliding glass door bought from anyone would have cost $750 but would have left us with a 2.5 ft opening only. So, we spent three times as much and bought a door that would last a lifetime and give us an opening that a fridge and furniture would fit through. It has wood cladding on the inside and is plain painted fiberglass on the outside. Sounds wonderful doesn't it? At least until it rains. The day after they were installed, it rained and the inner wood cladding sopped up the water like a dry sponge. In four spots - all corners of each door on the inside.
I contacted Milgard and in no uncertain terms was told that this was our fault. We were supposed to have stained the door interiors prior to installation. Wow! This was news to us and asked where this was information was provided us? It wasn't but that did not stop them from ignoring us, repeatedly. Seeking legal counsel would prove to be cost prohibitive for something like this and this falls outside of the conditions for small claims court.
Even if they had been stained, one would have had to make sure that the wood cladding on the bottom (about 1/16th inch thick) had been stained as that is where water was taken up. Mistakes with products can occur, but what was so incredibly sad was how quickly they washed their hands of us. We had been incredibly good customers and were seeking nothing more than to have the bottom pieces of cladding replaced. We would have even helped pay. Yet, they discarded us like yesterday's trash. And by doing so they have now managed to gain customers who will forever speak poorly of them and their product.
Find a smaller manufacturer that still thinks customer service is important. We drove up three times to the Milgard complex and those awards that they have repeatedly garnered has made them large and profitable. Too bad that caring for customers has been lost on the way. They will not see us again.

During that time, I spoke to neighbors and found that a lady 3 houses away from me had her patio furniture catch on fire! I contacted Milgard again only to receive a generic "no-fault" letter stating that is the inherent quality of low-e windows. The only thing she suggested was to replace our windows with regular glass. Seriously?

Tech came out to due some warranty work. While putting on the screen door astragals he didn't cut holes in them for the locks plungers, instead he just pounded them in which broke the handles!!! He had left. I went to review the work and noticed the broken handles, trash not picked-up and dirt on the new astragals!! I called this in and the tech came back and said these handles could have been broken before he arrived and took pictures to cover his ** and left!! This tech's name is Bobby. If you get him ask for someone else. I asked for someone else and Robin @ Milgard told me not a problem and then called me back trying to force this joker Bobby back to my house. I complained to her boss and she didn't return my call either. Go with Jeld Wen when you buy windows. They're local and have better warranty services/techs versus Milgard!!!

If I could give Milgard 0 stars I absolutely would. Like another poster I am the second owner of my home. This means the windows are not covered under warranty. We have one Milgard window that will not open, another that won't stay open and many others that are questionable. CS referred me to a local person who supposedly does repair. As soon as the guy found out I was not calling about an install, he basically claimed someone would call me back to set up an appointment to get me off the phone. No one ever did. When I called CS again, I was told that Milgard doesn't really care about my windows because they are not covered and if that referral didn't work it was up to me to find an authorized dealer who was willing to come out and repair. So far no one is willing. We have another property that is an old craftsman needing all windows replaced. I was considering Milgard for that as well but I feel like this is just a hint of what would be to come should we run in to any difficulties. I mean, what's to be done with a company who does not stand by their product?

In 1985, we bought all of our doors and windows & glass skylights for our custom home in Dixon, CA (where Milgard is made now), BECAUSE of their "Lifetime Warranty." At that time, it was "lifetime" on materials. They have Always been hard to open and close, unless you are a body builder, and all 4 skylights have extreme moisture inside, and most of the uppers of the single hung are too fogged, and obscured to see through. Over the years, Milgard "No customer service" has, begrudgingly, given me a few replacement sections, but, the last time I called "Customer Service," several years back, the woman representative told me that "I" would have to find the warranty that came with the windows to prove the warranty! I have gotten tired of hearing ads for "wonderful Milgard" & their "lifetime warranty." I am the original owner, and had intended to have lifetime windows, or we would have bought a different brand. Buyers beware of Milgard. "Lifetime" warranty, apparently doesn't mean the home's lifetime? Shop around. You may be in your house a long time.

With the help of Milgard's authorized factory representative, I selected Milgard Pultruded Fiberglass windows and sliding doors for my house after a disastrous house fire in 2005. Before the windows were trimmed, I had the rep visit once more to inspect the contractor's work. He gave it his seal of approval. When winter came and it began to rain, the sliding doors on the weather side of the house leaked. The leaking was not from the flashing around the units but from the units themselves. These were Milgard's top-of-the-line units.
Milgard finally offered me $7,000 to get lost, but that was an insult. The original units cost far more than that. Replacements of similar units were $12,000 and none of this considered labor. These people are scumbags. I was asked by Pat **, the customer service representative to not email any longer but to use the phone instead. He wanted no record of our communication. I cannot express how thoroughly disappointed I am in this product and these people. Don't touch this crap or deal with these charlatans!

While I understand there are warranties, but for windows that are only 8 years old, they're in terrible condition! Low E film or coating on some has deteriorated. I am the second owner of this house, which sat vacant for one year with regular visits by contract company. I would expect more from a supposed reputable company. Milgard rep contacted me via phone stating there is nothing they would do. She offered no comment when asked if it were her windows that have failed. Milgard is out to sell poor quality with no real backing of their products. Anderson or Peachtree would be the best choice even if there were five previous owners.

We have Milgard vinyl windows in a house we bought from the original owner 6 years ago. I have had to replace at least 1/3 of the sashes because the seals have failed. In the past, they were replaced for free so I can't complain too much. Now I have more windows that have failed seals and they are telling me my warranty was non-transferable from the original owner! I am willing to pay for replacements and they say they don't have the manpower to even come to my home. I should contact a local glass shop. Sounds to me like their business is failing. I would recommend anybody to stay away from this company. The product is bad and they will be out of business soon.

We had our sunroom windows replaced in Fall 2012, huge windows. Not only do they fog up, which means we have completely lost our panoramic view, but one of the windows is completely rusted up. We had a Milgard inspector come out over a week ago who said that we should have been told about the condensation and that is what was to be expected with dual-pane windows. They can't help us with the fog. But they would replace the rusted window. Really? What good are windows that you can't see out of? They still haven't gotten in touch with us, not even about the one they said they'd replace. If you are having windows replaced or installed, avoid Mildew, I mean Milgard.

Just like "justice delayed is justice denied", Milgard's "free replacement for broken windows" is worthless, due to the very long (3-4 weeks!) lead time - for security reasons, you can't ignore a broken pane of glass! I had it replaced in a few days, even though they had to make the (2-panes) unit out of town and at my own expense. Having been in management, I know this isn't excusable, especially when they said, "we're busy." It's a worthless excuse since there a millions of unemployed and many hungry glass shops here (San Diego). I suspect a high % of people waiting for service also gave up - this, of course, goes right to the bottom line profit for Milgard, since it's a cost avoided. The service rep wasn't much help, repeating over and over again "it's free." Free is no good if, in the meantime, you risk a break-in.

We built our home in 2005. After about three to four years, two bathroom windows exploded without warning. They were both made with the leafy textured privacy glass. The first one was in our daughter's room, and she was thankfully not home. The second one, in our master shower, exploded while I was showering (it was about 15-18 inches from my head) and scared me very badly - I thought it was a gunshot. Thankfully, no glass got on me. We called our contractor and he called Milgard. The windows were replaced soon after, at no charge.
Today, we went to clean what we thought was a dirty window and found that the "dirt" is between the panes, in an east-facing window. I guess it's probably mold. I'll be calling our contractor again in the morning, hoping he can put some pressure on Milgard again, as he is a long-time customer and sells a lot of their windows. There are far too many people complaining on this site alone about windows spontaneously breaking or exploding. This is a huge liability issue for Milgard and one they should be actively researching and correcting before someone is blinded or even killed by the shattered glass! I don't understand how they are getting away with saying that they don't know what the problem is.

I purchased a total of 13 Milgard windows in June of 2006. I love them for functionality and have had little issues here and there of window track slip and a couple of latches needing replacing. In the last year however, I have had 2 windows in my bedroom and 1 in the bathroom mysteriously crack and break apart. As soon as I get 1 fixed, it seems another breaks. I asked a rep at 1(800) Milgard if anyone else had these issues or if there was a recall. She stated there are no issues similar to mine and no recalls.
I owned a business for several years and have had items that were defective or worked incorrectly and I had to man up to fix or replace with an item that was superior and not defective. My family and I love our new windows but could do without the constant broken glass and explaining when we have company over about Milgard's mysteriously breaking glass that they claim to have no idea about. Word of mouth is important these days and in life for business - from a concerned customer point of view.

This junk is exported as well. A neighbor had Milgard windows installed; and he works in the trades, so I thought he would know what to buy. And of course, what's shown in the showroom is not what you get. I've had nothing but problems at my home in Langley, British Columbia. The cheap plastic strips won't stay stuck on the window. (That's what you get when you have a finishing method that looks like it came from a dollar store - double-sided tape, come on.) The bedroom window had debris in it. So, the Milgard guy (not the local company that installed them) came with a replacement which, after my time was wasted for the install, also had debris in it; so again, a third window was brought in and more of my time wasted.
When I ask about the plastic not adhering, I get that's an install issue; not a manufacturing issue. The crummy old aluminum windows that were original to my 1991 home didn't leak in the two years I had it before making the mistake of buying Milgard; but my family room window leaked the first rain (June 23, 2012). Of course there was no one available on a Saturday. The company came out and redid the goop and all new plastic strips (which were lifting within days.) The guy said basically, this is the west coast and it rains (as if I was to expect that new windows would not keep the rain out; funny how the old aluminum ones did not.)
Since July, my bathroom window won't shut (the lock won't close). The company was notified in July and I've heard nothing. I've asked about a refund; nothing but silence from the company. I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I preface every correspondence with the term 'garbage'. I feel very much cheated. I thought I was making an investment in my home. PS: the neighbor who bought Milgard sold his home shortly after, and I met the new neighbor who showed me his plastic peeling problems.

I had Milgard windows installed in 1995 - white vinyl, the kind that they chop holes in the stucco. The whole house is in the CA Earthquake-ville and is on a slope. The house still settles on a little clay earth. All the windows are fine. The stucco job was hard to match, but it’s fine. After one bad storm, I had some leakage on a large fixed trapezoid. The installer came and caulked it. I think that part of the decision should be to use a window company, not a contractor. I had good service from them. I think subcontracting windows might be important. It is a big job and maybe you need a company that just does that. Originally, they did tinker some with locks, etc. My slider screens are kind of - but I’m not sure that years of kids slamming them have caused the problems. I have done a lot of remodeling and never have good luck unless the workmanship is reliable.

I paid out of pocket for the last two, but I am not sure what to do about this last one. Milgard quoted me $368 for the repair. I don't mind paying a couple of hundred dollars to fix my window, but there is obviously something wrong that they spontaneously crack for no apparent reason. It looks like others have posted similar experiences. Milgard will not admit any defects and still hasn't offered me a reasonable explanation why they are spontaneously cracking for no reason. I purchased all-new Milgard windows and a Milgard patio door in late 2006. The windows are all fine; however, within 2 years, the bottom track on the patio door cracked and broke. The door slides easily in cold weather and is difficult to open and close in hot weather. When I contacted Milgard, they stated that vinyl windows and doors expand in heat and contract when cold. That did not explain why the windows slide just fine regardless of weather.
They also told me that the bottom track of the patio door is not covered under warranty, and I would have to pay for a new one. I guess the most used part of their patio doors (the bottom track) has a life span of less than 2 years. My last patio door was junk, and the track lasted 30 years. I have not replaced the track yet, as most of my money was spent for the remodel. I can assure you I would never again buy a Milgard product again. Milgard Essence Casement Window Design is Poor: We purchased Milgard's new Essence line since our entire house is stained wood and we wanted it to match. We also heard great things about Milgard. Most of our windows are casement. We ordered them without knowing the design puts the screen all the way on the inside of the window jam. We planned to do an inside mount of our window coverings. In this way you can see all the wood trim we have stained around the window. We can't do this with the design that is different than any other window we are familiar with.
I contacted Milgard and got a response explaining this is a result of the structural design of the window requiring the screen to be mounted so far inside. And that an architect/designer should address covering like drapes or box shutters. I felt the given reason for structural integrity was an excuse as the screen is fastened to a place, so how does it play into structure? But I could be wrong. At this point, my wife feels we wasted our money if we are supposed to cover all the wood work and windows we spent so much on. I feel Milgard manufactured a poor product and then had an excuse for us. If we could return them, we would.

Then about a month ago, we noticed that another frosted pane window in another bathroom had broken, Again, inside pane and no one had been near it. So far none of the other windows have broken, but there is obviously a defect in the windows since this happened to two different frosted glass windows in the same house. My husband called the vendor and they referred us to Milgard. The person my husband spoke to said that since it was the inside pane that broke, they will fix it. In Oct 2011, I had an installer from New Pane come out to examine it. He assured me it was not leaking and was fine. On Friday, Jan 6, the inside pane of that same window blew out. A large chunk of glass hit the toilet seat before landing on the floor. The outside pane is intact and so is the screen. There is a weird pinkish hue running through the bottom part of the outside glass and a pink circle in the middle.
A few years back, my bedroom window started getting moisture between the panes when it got cold. There appears to be a defect in these windows, the glass and/or the sealant.
