    I was living in a house with a traditional ADT system, but for some reasons, I sold that house and moved to an apartment. As people know, most of the apartment complexes do not allow digging in the walls or having such a security system in the hardcore way of ADT. I checked with one of the ADT representatives and he suggested that I can get the self setup one, which doesn't require digging in the walls. I found it so handy and easy to use. For installing the sensors, it was easy and it only took me 10 to 15 minutes. On the other hand, it took me some time to figure out how to install the camera since it depends on an external system, which is a Google Nest. The camera installation needs to be much easier. In the end, I installed it successfully, but it took me more than half an hour.

    The system is working fine, and I'm using it now mainly for the camera. I didn't enable the system yet for the security because I didn't find the necessary occasion for this because there's someone in the house most of the time. All in all, I can refer ADT, but some people don't prefer to go for a complete system. They like only to install some cameras. They see that it's doing the job for them. I even tried to recommend ADT to the guy who bought my house, but he wasn't interested.

    The initial price for the equipment was very good, and my interactions with the sales rep were good as well. She was knowledgeable and helped me pick out the system that I needed the most. When I was doing the self setup, the confirmation code that came with my system didn't work, so I had to call in and wait several days to get help to set up. Once we got past that issue, it was a very easy setup.

    I had Google services before, and then it was going away and then Google was giving me an option about ADT Self Setup. But I also had heard about ADT before that and I was thinking if I get rid of Google, I would go with ADT. I further did some investigation if I wanted to go with the ADT or not. But I still had an offer of getting some stuff from the Google stores instead of going with the ADT. I thought I would go with the ADT and then see how it goes. I went to the ADT website and the things to see what new offers there are in the market. I got more information about ADT.

    I haven't had to talk to any representative because after I got the kit, I was able to install it myself and I was able to activate everything by myself. It was very easy. I just had to open up the ADT account, install the app, create an account, and add devices. Also, the good thing was I was able to add the Google doorbell that I have. That was easy as well. Those devices are compatible with ADT, so I didn't have any problem with starting that. I'm a little bit of tech savvy also, so I didn't have any problem doing that.

    We have had ADT before but we did not wanna be under contract with them. The only way to not be under contract was to do the self setup. From a technical standpoint, it's very easy. When we first had ADT, they had to hardwire everything 15 years ago when we built our house. This go-around, it seems silly to pay so much money for someone to come in and set it up when all you have to do is plug it in and connect it to your bluetooth. The system works and it's integrated into the Google Home system. If all you have are door sensors, you just have ADT. But if you want any of the camera functionality, that's all Google so you have to get the Google Home app on your phone and integrate it to your ADT. But it was pretty simple to set up.

    But I am not pleased with the support. Every step of the way, we had an issue and it was very hard to get resolution. The reps are highly ineffective. The person who signed us up made a mistake so we're never gonna get the gift card we were supposed to get. She tried to make it right by giving us some credits but in trying to find a person that could effectively make a decision, you're sent to a call center, and the people who work for the call center clearly just read off the script. I must have spent many hours on the phone being bounced from person to person in that call center. I had to escalate everything to requesting a manager or a supervisor to be able to get anybody who could do anything. I said, "I'm canceling my service unless you send me to a manager or an account supervisor." Then they were able to figure out what happened and try to make it right.

    It has not been a great experience working with ADT. They were very apologetic and wanted to try to make the situation right. But it takes a lot of time and energy to even get to an account manager that can address it. There are a couple of other home security companies that are a little bit more regional. They are gonna be a little more expensive but I would more than likely get a live person to speak to that's in my area that could help me and not a massive call center somewhere.

    ADT Self Setup guided us on the limelight for the self-setup thing with Google. I had some issues with the sensors, which they have installed. And the sensors sometimes would trigger on their own. That becomes scary because my system would be triggered and I would get some false notification at the same time.

    We don't have all of our stuff fully set up yet. We have an outdoor camera and a Ring doorbell that I'm just waiting on my husband to set up. Otherwise, good experience. We installed our indoor camera and our door sensors ourselves. They were easy to do. We got a deal and bundled a bunch of our equipment. We paid for that a while ago and we ordered it. From a monthly standpoint, the price point is something I'm comfortable with. We're just under 40 bucks. If it's a bit more than a dollar a day to have ADT, I'm happy with that. It's a price point we're comfortable with and can afford right now.

    The tech knew what he was talking about and the installation was great. The one thing I did have a problem with was I didn't get the sign that they were gonna put on the window or in the front yard. I was told it was gonna be mailed to me but I never received it. I contacted the tech and he said he would come back around but he never came back. Other than that, the service, especially the new Google Nest cam, has been great. The alerts are on point and it connects with everything in the house, including the Google Home so I hear everything and the security is very timely. Also, the customer service is on point, especially when it comes to any type of repairs or anything else like that. They don't keep you on hold for too long and they actually talk to you and majority of them helps you out, at least the ones I've dealt with.

    I still have problems with my system and the Self Setup team couldn't help me. We had it set up at a rental house and right now, the door sensors don't even work. I have to constantly bypass it to set the alarm and I'm not happy with the system at all. They said it's easy to set it up on your own, but it's not. You really need people out there to guide you. I would like them to help me fix my system but it's going to cost money for them to come out there.

    The setup process was terrible and the equipment is poor. The keypads on the wall have to be plugged in and it’s not feasible. The sticky tape on the doors takes off your paint completely if you put it in the wrong spot and try to remove it. So, I'm not happy with the system. I have been trying to reach ADT but every time I call, it's a long wait and I just don't have time. Plus, considering it's a non-usable system, it's way too expensive. I'm dissatisfied and I'm gonna try to make a return.

    One night, we armed the alarm then in the morning, I opened the door and the alarm triggered. But I haven't got any call from anyone regarding that, which I got a little surprised. When the alarm was going on, immediately closed the alarm by disarming the system. But I thought that there would be some call from ADT about it.

    Other than that, when I first got ADT, the sales representative was really good. His name was Jim and he was very fantastic to work with. He explained everything to me. But the thing didn't work according to what he explained to me. It made me wonder whether ADT is really monitoring my home, or I'm just making the monthly payment and my home is not being monitored. I pay $35 a month and that includes the $10 for the three Google cameras that I installed. One for the doorbell, one in the front yard, and one for the backyard. Then $25 is for the ADT monitoring. The security features are really good, but they will be of no use if my house is not being monitored.

    I currently have ADT in my own home, but I have Control, and it is when they come out and everything is fine. When you gotta do the Self Setup, you get the low-budget equipment and it's not good. I don't like it. I had to get it from my dad because he can't get it for himself. He can't get Control right now. So, it is what it is. Until we can go through this thing and probably get him another alarm company that will give him better equipment, he gotta deal with it.

    The representatives knew what they were doing, they weren't nasty, and they just did it, and it was done. So, it was just that the equipment is horrible. ADT+ plus is not self setup. If they're gonna do self-setup, at least they could make the equipment compatible because it's not. I don't like the little box tower versus my dad leaving, going to the pink push code where you can see it. It is what it is. I set everything up because he didn't.

    Everyone from ADT Self Setup was super nice. We kept getting stuff in the mail saying that we had credit, but we already used it. So, I called to double-check that we didn't have more credit and it was cool. I got the system set up. It was easy. I have the app. So if I was in bed and I foroet to turn it on, I could do it from my phone, which is convenient. Also, if I let my dog out in the morning, I could just let him out from the room and also do from my phone. I would tell others we use ADT Self Setup and it's good. The Google thing had some problems with it. It would always go offline and it struggled. But this is a lot better.

    We had to install the ADT system ourselves because with where our vacation home was located, they didn't have a technician to come out that far. It took us almost five hours because we downloaded it on YouTube to figure out how to install it. It had some directions and once we got it up and running and we knew how it's working, we liked it very much. The quality is very good. We're very happy with it once we figured out how to use it. The alarm went off twice when we first used it till we figured it out. The one time I set it to “Go away” because I was running into town, and then the alarm went off. And ADT called and said there was movement in the house. I never thought of it but my dog was in the house and that was movement. So, I didn't realize the first time that I shouldn't have set it on that.

    I saw some neighborhoods with ADT security and when I checked the website, I saw how long this company has existed as well as how it was going to cover our necessity, which was to monitor our house with security. I requested the products online and they arrived at my home. I selected the self-service functionality and that was good. But the first time that I tried to install the first equipment, that's called hub, it didn't work. Then, there were a lot of interactions with ADT. I connected through the phone with an analyst to try to explain to me and I scheduled another time to do that as well. And it didn't work.

    One of the analysts asked me to contact the guy at Best Buy responsible for installing things because they are somehow connected with ADT. The guy came and tried to install but it didn't work as well. On the same day, I had another appointment with ADT with a higher specialist and this person resolved everything. They reset the equipment and connected it to the ADT network. And I could install all the rest.

    The first analysts were not trained enough to understand the users when they had problems. It took me time. So, I was about to cancel and return everything to ADT. But the last analyst fixed the problem and after I did the installation, everything was working very good. I can monitor my house. The camera is working and I see everything. So, it's great. But it took one week to achieve this. On the website, there are two options, ADT installation and self-installation. I realized only after that the equipment is different as well. But they don't explain it. I realized that when one of the analysts explained it. So, this makes me upset. If ADT explains, it will be great. It is a very good service.

    ADT is nationwide. I've heard about them through marketing and advertising. When you're contacting them via phone service, the reps do a good job in trying to attempt to solve issues. However, there are a lot of breaks in communication and barriers sometimes in languages where it's hard to understand. For some reason, a lot of the representatives always have a huge time delay in the phone conversations where once you say something, they don't hear until four seconds. It's just something automated with their phone services that is very horrible. ADT has possibly been good in incentivizing people to get the systems. However, it's very hard to receive the reward system in which they use a company called Blackhawk and it becomes big hoops going back and forth trying to get sometimes the promised reward cards that they give with new systems.

    The ADT representative came for a visit in my home and offered me a package that was very expensive and not necessarily what I was looking for. So the first time, I gave up ADT and I started looking around for other alternatives. I was about to go with Ring and then I realized that ADT itself has a self-setup program.     The system is good and I didn't have any issues with bugs over the technology. However, it was a little pricey for me compared to other services around. The other discomfort that I had with ADT was when I wanted to disconnect, they wouldn't transfer me to the person that would let me disconnect. They were pushing me to keep the service. They were a little more insistent than what I was comfortable with. They kept selling to me and it took a lot of time for me to have the disconnection go through.

    I first took ADT Self Setup when I was living in a single family home, almost a year ago. I talked to the service person online. They set up the appointment. I explained my situation. They gave me a price for the bundle that I would get as far as the mechanisms. The gentleman came out. And the next thing I knew, "No, that's more." So everything was an add-on. What I thought was a low monthly payment turned into a big monthly payment. And I told the gentleman that I was potentially moving and putting the house up for sale at some point in the spring.

    He said, "Don't worry. This is a transferable contract. You can take your system with you." Spring, I sold my house, called them up. I needed to transfer my service. "You can't do that. You owe us $1,700 for equipment and $1,500 for services." So, went around and around for multiple calls. I said, "This is ridiculous. I'm staying with you. How can you charge me the fees?     I had a very rough entrance into ADT and I have a lot of complaints with the way that they handle their business. My main complaint is if you want to have your system professionally installed, it's not a single time flat fee. They continue to charge you an additional fee on your monthly subscription indefinitely and that is predatory. The installers are going to be there for a couple of hours so, why continue to charge you? And it's not a small amount. It's an additional $20 a month forever. So why would I continue to pay over that period of time for a one-time service? So they take advantage of those folks who want to be safe and they want to use the best. ADT has a very good reputation, so they use that to their advantage and it's unacceptable.

    Aside from that, I'm a technician by trade and I work in cyber security. I am perfectly capable of installing, which is why agreed for them to send me the self-installation kit. But nowhere during that conversation was I informed that the equipment they send out is not the same equipment that they install during a professional installation. So when I got the Google doorbell cam that they sent me, it is a rechargeable version and an easy to install version of the camera. It is not a hardwired version of the camera, which is what I was expecting to get. Some of that could be on me for not having the gumption to ask. But the onus is on the company to provide that information, especially if you're asking specifically to have that level of equipment.

    The other issue I had was that when I received the equipment, the box set did not have the equipment I expected in it. The hub is a very basic hub. My sister had the professional installation and they gave her touch screen, which is what I wanted. I had discussed that with the sales rep but that never arrived. I called two weeks later because I was so frustrated with the whole thing. I said I want the touch screen to go with this as I thought I was getting this. I got transferred five different times and I was so flustered by the time I got to the last person that I then expressed my distaste in that situation. So, I got hung up on again. I waited a couple of days, called back again, ended up with another sales rep, and was told that they were going to process and get me the hub that I want. They said to give it a couple of days and they'd send me the equipment. But that was four weeks ago.

    So I'm not currently happy with ADT right now. I'm not even sure if we're going to continue to keep them. I feel that there was some purposeful misleading information provided to me to make the sale because I purchased additional equipment. I bought five Google cameras and I paid for the equipment upfront out-of-pocket. I did not do a contract to pay for it. So I paid several hundred dollars to the tune of 700 and for the amount of money we're spending and the amount of consumer confidence that ADT generally has, you would think that the service I would have received would have been a lot better. Also, they way mark up those cameras and everything else. It's insane. I didn't realize that at the time and I should have done a little bit more research on that end. So, I am going to be contacting them again to try to receive the camera that I want because I still don't have it installed. I just left it in the box.

    I had Nest previously and my option was a $200 Google gift card or the ADT Self Setup. I decided to go with ADT and everything came clean and clear, and concise and packaged well. It was easy to understand where things needed to go and using the app to determine placement of things in my house was great. I feel very secure. But I would rather have more cameras as opposed to more motion sensors. Because typically, in our area, the homes that people are buying are from a time period when homes were choppier. So, unless you have a bunch of sensors, it oftentimes doesn't read your whole house. I need more than what came in the Self Setup.

    My ADT system is almost not working at all and I've got no help from ADT. But it could very well have been that I missed a call from them. I'm not tech-savvy at all but I got it set up. I was having some problems with people having my modem passcode, so when I brought the doorbell that I had and the camera from outside in to charge them because they're battery-powered, I changed my modem password. But I don't know how exactly to get that password on them. I can get on to the app, plus I have the Google Home app and everything I'm supposed to have for the system. But I still can't figure it out.

    Also, I cannot get either of the Google Nest cameras to work anymore. And the thing that you place on the door, sometimes when I go out the door, it would set, and sometimes it would not. But I don't think that's ADT's fault. I think that somebody has been trying to break in my doors. Other than that, I didn't have a problem with ADT at the beginning. But I did not understand that they could come out and install the equipment for me because it's ADT+. So I hired somebody that charged me $150.

    I'm having a huge issue with ADT Self Setup. I ended up joining ADT Self Setup because I had a smaller house in New York at the time when I did it. When I first set the system up, I was unaware of a lot of things. The person who originally sold me it when I called customer service sold me a good bag of tricks because he didn't tell me half the things that I was incurring. I signed the contract, which I didn't know how many years it was. Also, there is no customer service for Self Setup. I kept getting transferred to one place to another. “This is Blue.” “This is ADT Plus.” “This is ADT Self.” “This is ADT Yellow.” It was terrible. And the worst part is the equipment stopped working. So, there were a bunch of issues.

    I have a whole case opened with them right now. And I wanna report ADT Self Setup to the Better Business Bureau because what happened to me was very disgusting. They told me that if I wanted to get out of my contract, I would need to have pro-install. I set up the pro-install. I signed a new five-year contract. And the person told me, “If you go with pro-install, we'll reimburse you. We'll refund you. And you don't need to pay anything on the self-service side.”

    Because they gamed me, they made me go and do pro, and right when I signed up they told me, “We forgot to tell you. You still have to pay for the self-service equipment.” We were talking about the monitoring fee. I said, “That's not what your employee told me. I literally asked her how much in total, and she said there were no fees. Go back to the tape.” I'm happy to go to the tape and let her hear me say that. I am pissed off. This has been the worst experience. I wanna get legal involved, but it's $250 that I gotta keep paying on the ADT self-service side. And I just signed a five-year contract for 70 bucks a month on the pro side.

    The setup process was easy. It takes you step-by-step through the whole process. If you have any questions, you could call ADT's number and they would help you through it easily. We already had some things installed then we installed some more. However I am having a little glitch right now with the functionality as far as getting alerts on the outdoor cameras. They have done a ticket for me that I'm having a tech call me tomorrow to walk me through the process. If he can't, then they go a next step where they send someone out. Other than that, we just alarm our house when we leave. We have the beep-beeps on the door and the outside cameras. Knowing that we're hooked up through fire and police gives us a sense of security. When we secure it at night, that gives us a little bit more of an ease.

    I don't like ADT's self setup system. It's more expensive than what I had but it's a lesser quality. A guy came out and set everything up, but I'm not at all pleased with the service. The blank camera that's in the front died in three days so the guy had to come back out and replace it. I explained to them that it's important to me for my service to work because I have a protection from abuse from my ex-husband. I had to have windows replaced because he broke them out. They had to take the sensors off them. When I called to see if they could come back out to put the sensors back, they said, "You can call us and we'll walk you through how to do it yourself." That's fine but they charged me $600 for this equipment which is ridiculous. I don't feel like I should have to put them back on myself if I'm paying all this money to have this provider monitor my home.

    Yesterday, the sensors aren't even on the two windows on the front but I got a call from them saying that there was a tampering with the window. I was at work but I have cameras inside and outside the house. I looked but didn't see anything. I was on the phone with them for 15 minutes. They're nice but the timeliness is horrible. In 15 minutes, if something was happening, my stuff could have been stolen by that time. Because of the situation, I told them to send the police. The rep said, "They don't call us back and let us know what happened if anything is wrong." What is the point if they're just gonna go there? She put me on hold again, came back and said, "They're going to call you.” But they never called so I don't know if the police went there.

    When I moved into my house 10 years ago, they had ADT signs out front. And then when I decided to get the ADT system, I was looking on the internet and I decided to try to go with them. The setup was a nightmare. It still is a nightmare. I don't have it set up yet. All I've got is the base going, and I can't find anybody that can help me put up the cameras. I just had ankle surgery. I can't get on a ladder to do it myself. So, it's been kind of a nightmare. I've been paying for it but I don't have it set up. They need to have someone here that can do it.

    Customer support kept saying they'd call me back. And I did notice that they did call me back once, but it was the day after my surgery, and that was the last thing I had on my mind. So, in a way, it was a nightmare. I'm not sure it was their fault. It might have been my fault for getting this all going during the time that I was having surgery. We finally did, after they took a month’s payment out of my account, get the base going, and they were very nice. The gal I talked to was very nice. We got the base going rather quickly. She knew what she was doing. And that was what they call a virtual phone conference type thing. So that worked out fine after a month's time.

    I heard of ADT years ago. My mom had them. But when I spoke with one of the ladies on the phone, she told me they have a self-setup kit. I figured it shouldn't be hard to do. I'm good with my hands and used to mess with electricity and gadgets. So, the set up was easy to me, just step by step. And most of it was common sense to me. But I don't like the salesman, because I asked about the cameras before I got them. I thought that was solar power. I have much stuff going on, like activity from my front door, cars passing by, cats running by, and it would make my battery run down fast in my front yard, so I would have to constantly go back and charge them.

    I would have to drill holes in this concrete to run my wires for it to stay plugged up. I don't wanna do that. So, every other day, I would have to charge my batteries up on the cameras. But I like the setup. It’s timed up right. I could go back, rewind it, and see what I need to see. The functionality is well. I feel very safe. If the lights went out, ADT always contacted me. Let me know the power was out, the Wi-Fi is not working.

    I took a new house from DR Horton. They have an in-built smart system over there. They're using IQ Panel Sys, which is a panel going over there. They asked me to do that. “You can take a plan from us,” from that Safe Haven, “so that the plan would be like an ADT. And every month, you need to pay something like a 60 bucks or 70 bucks.” I asked, “Why should I pay that $70 for you? I don't want to pay. Because ADT is providing me a lesser price for that, so why should I go for that?” Because I was convinced with what they said, so I refused their services. They came and installed that panel, and left.

    That was the time I contacted ADT. “Hey, ADT, because earlier, the Safe Haven came to me to use your services on behalf of them. And they wanted to pay this much of amount.” I don't want them. I wanted to go directly with ADT because I wanted some outdoor webcams and three sensors to integrate those things with my IQ panel. Because the Safe Haven already used that, I could install the IQ panel for free. I wanted to leverage that existing home setup over there and just do an enhancement. I utilize the ADT service through the IQ panel, whether it was possible or not. They mentioned because Safe Haven is directly doing that thing, Safe Haven is my authorized dealer, and they mentioned that, then we would be able to do that.

    Unfortunately, I called five to six guys from the ADT. None of them had at least 10% of what the customer asked and how they could do that thing. They didn't know anything. And they sent me that guy. That guy also initially said that, “You can purchase the plan from us. We can provide them Google cams over there. And that can be integrated to your panel.” So, they suggested me to go for a self-starter kit and we could ask somebody else to come over to install it if we didn't know that thing. So, I just took that. Later, they mentioned that, “Your IQ panel system is not going to work with us.” What should I do? I already paid the amount. The kit is already delivered.

    The second thing is that he mentioned that, “You can take the two Google cameras, three sensors over there. And every month plan would be 24.99.” But to my surprise, my first bill came for 37.99. I asked, “What is this?” I called 50 times to this guy. He mentioned, “So, it's only a first bill, right? We are going to talk to the billing team. And in the second bill, you would be able to rectify that. And even we can refund that amount to you, what we have promised to do.”

    After that one, the lady came. “Can you make a payment?” “Ma'am, actually, this is what's going to happen. Your coordinator came to my home and he just asked me to pay over the website over there through my credit card." I paid that amount. He promised me for 29.99, but it was charged for 37. “I'm so sorry, sir. Actually, we will just go to talk to our team over there. We'll give it back to you on that thing.” But immediately, after the lady shut her phone, it was already again charged for two months, a very high amount, for 37.99.

    I was not totally dissatisfied with the ADT, because nobody knew anything. If it was a single guy—because I interacted with seven folks over the phone and one guy who came to my home. And that guy didn't do anything. He just forced me to sign the contract over there. He promised me with that. “I would be able to set it out. No, no, no. They won't charge for you that much. I'll talk to the billing department. I can do everything for you, sir.” But nobody has helped me out.

    I did ADT Self Setup because it was cheap. I talked to some other vendor who works with ADT, and what they wanted to set it up and what they wanted for their monthly monitoring were a lot of money. They're very pushy sales people, too. The ADT was such a small amount. It's like, “I can just try this, and if it doesn't work, it's so cheap, it doesn't matter, compared to these other things.” I had the cameras through Google. I had some kind of service. I couldn't let ADT take over that feature of monitoring my cameras because there's no support at ADT to where I could talk to a real person. So, my cameras aren't monitored. I didn't bother even setting up the alarm part because I’m not worried about it. I was gonna do that if I go on a trip. I'd tell others to give ADT a try.

    I was moving and I really wanted to take the equipment I had at my prior residence with me, but they explained to me that it switched over to now having the ADT Self Setup available. So, I just decided to do that. ADT is very convenient. You can move the system whenever you like to. So, it does come in handy. It's an easy setup when you want protection. To get it set up straight out of the box took a good 10 minutes. I had a self setup security system from another company before so I knew what to do. There was a lot of in and out of the app trying to set it up through Google and also adding different devices to it, but other than that, it was an easy setup.

    I like being able to monitor from outside the home. I feel extremely safe because I do have the alert when someone is not supposed to be in. I can watch them. The only problem I have is the camera because it detects movement and sends alerts to my phone every time I enter my kitchen, and it even catches the people that are on the TV.

    My son who's a computer expert did the self set up and it was difficult. They didn't have enclosed instructions. They did it by phone. One time, I set the stay code, left before the time ran out, and the alarm went off for some reason. I called the ADT Plus representative and told him about it. I said, “Can you reset it? I’m not there right now.” But the cops got a call from the security company anyway and they came in four hours later saying the security company called them. I'm older and I live alone in a 3.5 acre property. There are a lot of break-ins and threats. My sense of security is little shaky when I'm away because if the alarm went off, the police department is not coming out for four hours.

    I had the Google Nest products and I thought they were expiring because the Nest app was expiring. So, they sent me the ADT. I've had it for two months now and a couple of people called me about it, but I'm going to drop them. I wanted it to be a similar process to the Nest and it's not. The system doesn't work great with Google's old products, but it probably works great with everything new. So, if you have an eight-year-old doorbell, it does not integrate well. Also, Google never actually dropped Nest. They dropped the support for the Nest app, but they moved everything to their Google Home. So, I'm just going to go back to Google Home. It’s not ADT's fault though.

    The quality when I had ADT at my other house was amazing. But at this house, their customer service is horrible. I was being charged for a house I had sold in May and for service at my new home. They wouldn't let the other people activate the service at the old home even though everything was there because it still showed it was in my name. It took four phone calls to get them to credit my account. I ended up having to ask for a manager and the lady said, "We don't have any managers available at this hour." I said, "It's the middle of the day on a Friday. I know you're open even if you're four hours ahead." She said, "We don't have managers at this location," and she hung up on me. I called back and immediately asked for the corporate number. They transferred me and it got dealt with right away.

    They said they couldn't do installation where I live because it's way out in the country. It's not. It's seven miles from Roseburg, Oregon, and they advertise on TV that they do within 20 miles of Roseburg, Oregon. I had to do the Self Setup. I called and asked for help to make it easier. The sensors are easy to install. But when they ship it to you for a self-install, they only give you two sensors. I have a large home with a lot of windows and doors so need to order more sensors.

    I called ADT and they gave me a quote. I told them I needed two door cameras. When the guy got out here to put it in, it was one doorbell system and all of a sudden, it was $20 more than what they had quoted me. The rep flat-out lied to me about it. But the guy was already here so I did it. He put everything in, gave me his my phone number and told me if I have any problems, to call him.

    We had quite a few problems with this system. It didn't work like it was supposed to. I tried to call this service man four times in two days but couldn't get anywhere. I called ADT and was told there was nothing they could do about that. I asked them, “Who are you gonna have come out here and get this equipment?” They told me nobody was coming to get it. It was mine but I had to pay for it. I called them and asked them again if someone was gonna come pick up the equipment. They said no. I told them I would pay for the equipment and asked them how much it was. They said it was $1,200 and some dollars. The equipment was only $600 and some dollars in the contract but they told me I got to pay another $600 for the service. I haven't had it a month.

    I'd be glad to turn this equipment over to them if they send somebody out here to get it, but they best not put anything against my credit and they better not charge me anything. The service was in line with what I had hoped for if they had been truthful with me all along. The equipment works well as far as letting me know somebody's at the front door or at the side door. But it doesn't seem what they quoted me was exactly what it was gonna be. A lot of the people I talked to were very nice, but they aren't trained for anything.

    The setup was fairly simple to do. There were magnetic switches that go on all the openings and there's a central monitoring station that links to the Wi-Fi. So it's basically a plug and play. You stick the little sensors on and put them on all the doors. Then there's motion detectors for areas or you can do the windows. You just go through the instructions step by step. We use it as kind of a monitoring system as far as when doors open and close. Overall, it was simple and straightforward. If you're looking for an alarm system, you don't need to schedule a technician to come over and start drilling on your house with ADT. You can go through the setup features and figure out how many doors you got and just install it yourself in an afternoon.

    Going with ADT was the cheaper route and their customer support is very professional. When I had my first issue, they worked for hours and helped me. However, setting it up was difficult at first. I had to call the person who sold it to me to come out and help, and after I got everything connected, it went along well. But I don't like how the camera's battery life doesn't last long. Every time the alarm goes off, it seems that kills the battery every time I look at it from my phone.     When I purchased the system, I told ADT that I was gonna have a hard time with setting the system up, and I was gonna need somebody to come and set it up. The rep said, "This is self-setup. You try it yourself and if you have trouble then give us a call.” When I called for them to send a professional out, they told me that that was not an option. How I set up the motion sensors and stuff for my doors is not right. Although they are aligned, it'll say my door is open when my door is closed. My alarm went off at 2:00 in the morning for no reason. It said that the door opened and the door closed. But my kids were asleep so I don't understand what that was about. When I woke up, my alarm was still going off. I looked and saw the police on the camera walking around the house ‘cause they had got that alarm. Now I gotta pay $100 because that was a false alarm.

    I had bought a Nest and when they discontinued the product line, they gave a special to switch to ADT for free. Setting it up was fairly easy however I don't like it as much as I like the Nest system. There was a feature in the Nest system that was a quiet open, that once the alarm was set, you could push a button at the door, open the door from the inside and not have the alarm go off. That is not a feature in the ADT system. But the hub system is compatible. Everything is very similar to the old Nest system and it came with a Ring doorbell camera, which is an upgrade from the Nest system that I had. In those ways, it's the same as or better. ADT Self Setup is a good option if you're looking for a system that you can set up and monitor yourself.

    Setting up the ADT Self Setup system was a pain. I didn't realize that the router has to have the dual band. When I purchased it, I don't think there was anywhere stating that. If there was, it wasn't clear. It has to have the 2.4 gigahertz separate from the 5 gigahertz. The router that I had was incapable of doing that, so I had to go out and buy another router for it to work.

    I have two different experiences with ADT. The first one was great. Law enforcement was really fast even though a lot of my alarms were triggered accidentally. The setup the first time was good because I was able to have somebody come out and assist me in setting all my stuff up. This time, the setup was frustrating because I set it up to where the instructions did it, and it still never worked. My camera has completely stopped working, and I don't know why. I haven't had service since they sent me my products, and I thought I qualified for a free installation. I haven't been able to get anything right since I've had it. I've had it, again, for about three months. They did try to get me to do it virtually, but I didn't even answer because I was like, “You know what? I can't do it. I just don't have even the tools or the technology mind frame to even do it.” So, I just said I'm not even worried about it.

    It's easy to get in contact with ADT and their reps answer the phone. This time, I got frustrated because I asked for what I wanted in my package, and they decided that I didn't have enough money for that package and decided to go on and make their own package to what I could afford. That's not what I wanted and if I couldn't afford it, then I could have taken my money elsewhere. It wasn't for them to decide what I could afford.

    I had a security monitoring through Google Nest, but that company got away from home security and is doing more of the cameras. So, they didn't offer the security portion of it like the doors, windows, scanner, and motion detector. But because they got rid of that part of the company, they offered one year free with ADT and all the equipment is covered. I spent a lot of money on the other equipment and I had it for a couple of years. So, for them to get rid of that side of the company, it was nice that they would at least offer that for a year. They gave me a credit to replace what I had existing.

    I understand that through the agreement, it's for one year of service. So, once the one year is up, I would have to pay my own monthly monitoring service. But they've replaced everything that I had currently with Google Nest. The rep explained everything and was professional the whole time. Also, getting the pieces and all the equipment was easy. I've installed that before myself. Customer service was easy. I've used the app and it seemed self-explanatory. Everything was good.

    The ADT rep was willing to help me install my ADT but I had my nephew do it because he's better at that stuff. I could do it if I took the time, but he's the one who set it up. I prefer the wired versus the battery because the battery really doesn't last as long as I'd like it to. I have to continue to charge it. I thought it would last longer than it does, but the thing about the wires, is you have to drill a hole, and when you're dealing with fix and flip houses, you're not trying to keep it there. The battery is a better option for that reason. But the wires are a better option for longevity in terms of not having to continue to recharge it. I wish that the doorbell would last longer with the battery.

    Their app is cool, but sometimes it spins for a minute before you see if someone's at the door. It's not actual real time or it doesn't show right away. By the time it stops, the person, if they're going inside the house, is already inside the house. Then I have to go back and look at the history to see who it was, because it doesn't catch everything right away.

    We got ADT through Nest, but we didn't get it right away. For some reason, we fell through the cracks, and I had to call up, then we finally got it. There's a year's trial and that's what we did. I have the system set up in my garage. I decided to put it just in the garage to see how it would work before I do the house and change everything over. The customer service has been great. Every time I called up, they responded well.

    ADT is nice, except I'm having a little trouble with the app. I got an email message that there's a new ADT, and for some reason, mine didn't upgrade to that. I can't do much with the app. The settings are just three things. There seems to be no way I could just turn the system off. It's either on all the time or it's on but it's not going to set the alarm. However, I still get notifications when there's motion or the door's open. I don't need to have it on when I'm home, and I don't understand how come I can't just turn it off. That's a problem for me. It could always be on, but I don't have to monitor everything. It's the only thing I don't like about it. I can't control the app the way I want, but it's not frustrating. If that's the worst thing that happens to me all day, I'm a lucky guy.

It was very difficult for me to set up the product and the level one technology team has no clue on what they're doing.     I was told about ADT Self Setup when I was moving from my house to an apartment and that they're my only option for apartment security. I said okay to the Self Setup and the rep said it was only gonna be $5 that day to switch me over and they would send me everything. They said that once I get into the new apartment and set up the self service setup system, the old contract will be voided out completely because I was starting this new contract with Self Setup.

    The rep took my credit card information over the phone and I confirmed it three times that it was just $5. But I was charged $270 and that was on a Friday. I couldn't get ahold of anyone. When I finally did get ahold of someone early that following week, they said, "Oh, well, he gave you a pretty good deal. So, if I were you, I would just keep the charge on there, and then just let it be, what it is." They said that if they would give me my money back, then I was gonna have to go through the entire process again and someone else is going to charge me more because the person that set me up gave me discounts on the products that I need for my new apartment. I was basically forced into keeping that unauthorized charge.

    Also, the rep said I needed to sign the contract before I had even moved. Then I got an email from the regular ADT stating that I'm about to be charged the full contract price for the house for almost $800. I made a bunch of phone calls to them and I was very confused. I tried to get it worked out and they said I have 30 days from the date I signed the Self Setup contract to set it up or I'm gonna get charged this remaining contract balance. I was panicking about it and a rep told me that all I needed to do was take out the home hub, plug it in, and set that part up and that would be considered set up. But that was incorrect information. I did that and they were still telling me that I had until the 17th of May or they were gonna charge me that almost $800. I tried to hurry and get everything put up and set up together. On the 14th or the 15th, I was charged almost $800.

    I had already set everything up before the 30-day mark but they charged me that money before the deadline so it made absolutely no sense as to why it was even being charged. I had to call for days in a row and I was getting tossed back and forth. But it's a lot of money and I had to fight really hard for that. They kept saying they were gonna put notes in but every time I talk to someone, I had to reexplain the entire situation. There were a few people who were really nice and try to be as helpful as possible but there were other people who just told me that they couldn't help me and just tried to pass me along to the next person. It took weeks to get the unauthorized charge back.

    The first time I called ADT, I was misled a little bit because they told me that the sensors on my old system would work with the new ADT system. But those don't work. I called back and they said they would send out some new ones, then compensate some more, but we never got those. Also, the setup wasn't the easiest and there were some hiccups, but it wasn't the hardest. Aside from that, the new system is not as good as the Nest. It seems more convoluted and it keeps trying to bring in other stuff. But it works since when the door opens, the alarm goes off. So it gets the job done and it makes me feel secure when I turn the system on. But we haven't got to the point where somebody opened the door or a burglar occurred and the security or police department showed up because they were called by ADT. I wouldn't even say we've experienced half of the system yet.

    We got ADT because we had a Nest before and their products were discontinued. ADT took over and sent us new equipment, and it was easy to setup. The only confusion was whether or not to get rid of the Nest equipment and if it could be combined or not. I had one of the older versions of the Nest equipment that couldn't be combined, but I talked to an agent and ran through the self setup, and they were very helpful. The system is working great so far. We don't have it set up for super security purposes, just for notifications on doors and entryways, but I like it so far. Overall, I would tell people that it's an easy process and they should get it.

    I started with ADT and got stuff here but it took almost two months to barely get somebody to help me get anything set up at all. I had a visual assistant for a short while but not everything was completed and I am still in limbo. I had a whole bunch of medical stuff happening so I wasn't able to decide to get on the phone and call somebody, spent almost four hours trying to figure out who they were going to send me to next and waited around to get to the next person who couldn't quite solve my problems. And then passed me to somebody else until the phone finally hung up on me. I had that happen several times. But unless I have a four-hour block to spend with somebody trying to figure out what I'm doing, I haven't gotten very far. I’ve reached out to ADT several times and I intend to again as soon as I find a day where I have at least a four-hour-plus slot that I can sit there and do nothing else but talk with somebody.

    I still am not technically even online. I don't know how to arm, disarm and figure out how to do a whole bunch of stuff that somebody was supposed to show me but hasn't yet. There's nobody in service that I can talk to about this and do anything about any of it. They just pass me on to somebody else. So I cannot recommend ADT to anybody at this point.

    I was sitting in my mother's driveway in my car and someone was opening up my passenger door while I was in my driver's seat, trying to rob me. What was very disturbing was when I explained all these things to the person that was trying to get me to get the ADT Self Setup equipment, they were speaking of the door cam, the windows sensors, and the front and back door sensors. However, the only things that came were the two front and back door sensors and the door cam. It was hard for me to get the door cam in because of how my mother's house is set up. It's like tampering with the wiring. Even though they come with instructions, that' for a man to do, typically. The door cam is still not being used. The door sensors still work but like my mother stated, it's hard for her to hear the little box because we left the box inside the living room due to the fact they said it needed to be close to the modem.

    I paid right out for the equipment itself. I'm out of $500 and I thought it was well worth it. But with the amount of money that I paid and not receive everything that the lady that I originally spoke with stated is bothersome. They made it seem like it would be very useful. My mother thought that the door cam would canvas her area, that it'll rotate, but it doesn't. I could have went on Amazon or Walmart or the dollar store and got the little dollar door sensors.

    When using their online tools, you have to put in two passcodes. My mom can do that, but she's gonna need that extra support. When I tried to reach out to them, they said it's a a self set up system and if I have to have help, that's an additional charge. I asked for somebody else on the line that can assist me but they said they were just gonna tell me the same thing. Their customer service could do a lot better. They also told me that it was all ADT. I did not know that it was affiliated with Google Nest until I started doing the setup process. You can't see all the information when you're online. You can only see the big bold print. When you receive your equipment, that's when you see the fine print. If they would have told me upfront, it would have saved me time and hundreds of dollars.

    The SELF Setup was very difficult. There were a lot of technical issues with the Google devices, so I ended up reordering it and then troubleshooting with Google, and then eventually troubleshooting with ADT. It took me about 45 days to figure out and even now, I'm still having issues with a bunch of stuff. So, I'm very disappointed overall. I'm gonna try it out for a couple of months, but there's a chance that I may end up returning the system within the six-month window.

    I've had constant calls with ADT, especially in the first three weeks. I was on the phone with them every other day trying to troubleshoot. Two nights ago, one of the ADT smoke detectors/fire alarms went off at 1:30 a.m. for no reason. I had to go in and it obviously scared the crap out of me. It was a total false alarm. It didn't even trigger a notification in the app or my cellphone. I was able to turn it off but I had to take out the battery and disengage it.

    The faulty door sensors are another example. At 11 pm one night, one of the door sensors just read as open randomly. It is very scary when stuff like that happens at night. We waited for the alarm to go off for someone to come and call and check in. But there was nothing. There was zero response from ADT. So I went downstairs. The door was closed but still registered as open. So I opened the door, closed it back, and then it sort of reset the sensor. I haven't had that issue since, but it was pretty crazy if you think about it. I was about to call them about the smoke alarm issue that happened and to try to get a replacement. The last time I spoke to them about the smoke alarm, they said, “Replace the battery.” That was the best advice they could give me.

    In theory, the equipment should be the same as what they use for the professional services option. But the service and some of the equipment seemed to be different based on what I'm reading online, based on some of my own research. Overall, it's worth a try, but be mindful of some of these issues and if they persist, then definitely consider returning it and trying another service.

    Everyone was great. And setting up the system was easy. The only thing I don't like is when I'm home, I couldn't put my motion detectors on because it would say home and I would be stayed. But I wanna know if someone was in my house downstairs while I slept upstairs. If I put my security system on even when I said that I was away, it would switch to stay. And sometimes if I do it and disarm it a couple of times, that would get confused and say I'm away. It's annoying. But I should reach out to ADT Self Setup about that because that's the purpose of having a motion detector in the home. We don't have them on all of our windows. Someone could break in through a window and the alarm would not go off because the motion detector is off because we're home. Other than that, it's great for us.

    We had gone all in with Google's platform. It was a shock that they were going to kill the platform but there was an incentive offered of around $475 in credit to go toward ADT and the monitoring that we were paying for through Brinks in tandem with Google was roughly similar. An unexpected hiccup was that ADT required a certificate of authorization from our local police and fire organizations (that wasn't required by Google) and the communication back and forth with ADT around that was a little bit muddled.

    We had to switch out the hub, remove then remount all the door sensors and the motion sensor. The Google Nest cameras are working fine with the existing system but we had to sync the cameras to the hub. We had both the Nest app and Google Home app previously and had to migrate to the ADT app. We get a lot of redundant notifications. For instance, if someone walks in or out of one of our doors and they pass by the cameras, I get a push notification from both Google Home and ADT. Even though they're synchronous systems, there's a little bit of redundancy. Their website is mediocre as well. But so far, the system seems fine.

    In August of last year, we had professional wired service installed by ADT at our home, and everything was fine up until this April. In the beginning of April, a box truck ran through my house. We had to unexpectedly move and terminate service, which is when we signed up with the ADT self setup. That process was awful. It took us two weeks to get it figured out. No one would answer when I was off of work. I couldn't get anyone to answer me. And then if I did get someone on the phone, they just repeatedly told me they could not help me.

    The only people that did reach out to me from ADT were from the professional side trying to collect over $5,000 for me for terminating my contract early, which I did not do. I set up with the ADT+ side of things. I wanted to set back up professional service with ADT. They were trying to charge me over $5,000. I refuted those charges and they did take off half of it, but there are also equipment charges which are about $2,700 that I was making monthly payments on, which they had no problem with. I had never missed a payment and never in collections since I had been with ADT. And due to the circumstances I was put in, not on my own behalf, they are making me pay it all up front or they will send it to collections.

    So, I guess ADT's company model is to sell off that amount of money to a collections agency for less than half the price, while simultaneously killing my credit while I'm in the process of a severe life trauma. So, I could not be any more unhappy with their services. After this contract, we'll never use them again. ADT is supposed to protect people, and they have systematically made my life extremely difficult. If I had never signed up with them, I wouldn't be in this situation.

    I called ADT and inquired about the Self Setup, and had a salesperson sell me on the whole thing. But we ended up having a bad experience with it and I returned it with the 30-day money-back guarantee. ADT never responded or emailed me that they received it after spending probably over five hours on the phone, sitting on hold or being transferred to people. They still owe me $600 to refund me for the unit and I would like my refund back on my credit card. It's been 30 days.

    The customer service is poor. I asked them to send me an email confirming they’re gonna be sending the refund to me and the rep gave me a claim number. I probably have to call them again in a few days and go through that again. So, I would not recommend ADT. If you want your money back or are having trouble setting up, you need to be prepared to follow up with them, get shuffled around, and spend a lot of time on hold. If you want a refund, you're not gonna see it immediately and you're gonna have to follow up.

    The guy who helped me put my package together really knew what he was doing and he got me a good deal with the bundle. It took a very small amount of time to set up the system. My system is pretty small and the setup took half an hour. It's good for renting. It gives you the availability to move the hardware with you so you can change addresses and bring the hub as well as the sensors with you and set them up in a different domicile. And the idea is all of my sensors that are installed won't leave damage behind once I remove them so the landlord won't have any issues with it. Also, I've had good experiences with their app and online web tools. I received prompt notifications and everyone who is on the app is able to view them and I'm able to use it properly. It's hard to put a price on safety, but I definitely think it's worth it.

    I don't have my ADT set up because I couldn't figure it out. But, it's not ADT’s fault. Their system is just more difficult than Google's. Google’s was a great system. The problem is Google got out of the business and left us all hanging. I would never buy another product from Google ever again. I would tell others to call ADT and find out what they charge to install their system and get it up and running in your home, and just go that route. The Self Setup doesn't work very well. The package they sent out was woefully inadequate to replace what I had, so I had to purchase lots of other stuff, too.

    We're on month two with ADT Self Setup and I do not like the starter kit at all. I found the Google one to be much superior in functionality and ease of use. There are a whole lot of things I don't like about it. I originally came from the Google Nest security system and I had a lot of pieces that went with the Google Nest security, like the cameras and everything that I paid extra for that didn't come in the kit. And a lot of that does not work with this new ADT system that I got. I have three different apps to access my security system on my phone because of how none of it's linked together. I saw online that they offer a different setup kit. Maybe that's better. What I got to replace the Google one absolutely blows. But I contacted ADT one time because I had trouble setting up the pin and they were able to get it figured out.

They got the equipment back. They wanted weeks and weeks before they would return the money they took. Also, every time I called the number I could find, if they ever answered the phone, it was either a disconnected number or I would get somebody. But they would tell me that was not their department and transfer me to somebody else. They would hang up the call and I would have to start over again. The system never worked from the day we got it. But to get the whole thing resolved was 45 days. It was terrible. I would never use and recommend ADT Self Setup.

    My experience has been horrible with ADT. I still have a refund that I was supposed to get four different times now for products I sent back to them that weren't opened but I didn't need. And I still don't have my money back. They keep telling me they're gonna do it but it never comes. So I call again, and then they tell me that the last person didn't do it right and they’re gonna do it then. But nothing ever happens. I've talked to them probably at least a dozen times about this.

    ADT merged with Google Nest, then Google Nest deprecated their product. So now I'm forced to use the ADT product until it expires after a year, then I'll just get rid of it.     The switch to ADT was simple. It was self-explanatory and the instructions were good. Everything has been up and running for a little over a month now. The cameras are good and the customization of what you want to pick up and what you don't want to pick up is great. The only downside is the battery life on the doorbell camera. I've charged it three times over the outdoor cameras. But I could have the sensitivity set up a little too high. I think I can set some more settings to help it not be triggered so often.

    It still needs some work. It keeps telling me that Google Home needs to approve ADT as a connected device but in Google, it shows that it is connected. I think it's more of a Google thing, though. The ADT app is easy enough. Also, it seems like the base station disconnects or drops the internet connection every other day and I gotta go reset it. But it's in a place where the internet connection is fine or should be fine. It's not near metal objects or anything like that.

    I had a question about using old hardware to see if it was compatible and they set me up an appointment to talk with a specialist. But I deferred and I was able to get the answer online. Ideally, they would have had the answer as opposed to having to set up another appointment. But they were friendly and tried to assist the best they could.

    ADT’s app is completely worthless. It takes five minutes to log into it whenever I get a notification and then, the notification is not there. So, I have no idea what should happen. Two of the cameras were obsolete and couldn’t be used on the ADT app, which is another issue I have with the app. I’ve had a terrible experience. People should go somewhere else and to something other than Nest and Google products.

    When Nest canceled, we got migrated to ADT, but the transition was not good. Google had a whole ecosystem of cameras, doorbells, detection, and thermostat. But when they migrated it to ADT, a lot of things were lost. If they are taking over a product from another company, then they should at least provide the same or equivalent features. The sensors and the product quality is quite inferior to Google.

    The system is easy to set up but ADT is very difficult to get in touch with. If you wanna buy a door sensor, you have to go through hoops so it's a bit of tedious, frustrating process. it was quite a nightmare. I had to go to Twitter and get their attention. If you buy a home security system, you should be able to buy those parts off the shelf or online, through your account. But ADT does not allow that. So if your home security system has failed because of some parts, you have to go through the call center, but they cannot help you because they will not process any order. I ended up even going for buying these on Facebook through someone else.

    There are also some hidden fees that you set up first then they start billing you. You want a home security system that you're flexible with what features you want to enable and not, and not tied up with particular brand. They should also have a single window on their website. When they have different products like ADT, ADT Plus, etc., it can be quite confusing for the customer to go and order this. A lot of large homes usually are able to buy these, but if you look at poor families and not able to afford even fixed fees like food, nobody would install these things. They have to make it cheap.

    I took advantage of the free ADT setup that they offered in lieu of the Nest system being taken down. It's very simple to set up and I like that if you wanna piecemeal the parts, you can. There are bundle options too for those that want more than what the base starter set comes with. But overall, the base starter set pretty much covered everything that I needed in my home.     I like ADT. I'm glad I got it. I like the doorbell where I can see when somebody comes up. I can see who's at the door and I can talk back to them at the door. Right now, we're having a problem with the phone app. Because it's saying I'm still in test mode, but I'm not in test mode. Everything works because we tried it out yesterday. It's just that it's still saying I'm in test mode but I'm not. ADT's customer service is great. The very first time when I called, I had no problems.     The ADT salesman was great to work with. The cheaper option was to do the self-setup because they had a promotion on the equipment. It was free under the self-setup promotion. It took us a little while to set it up. We didn't have any issues with that, but we've had terrible issues with the billing. I've spent hours on the phone with billing trying to get it straightened out because they billed us for something they shouldn't have. So, the billing piece was a mess. We finally have it cleared up, but it's been a disaster. I've made multiple calls, talked to multiple divisions, and finally was escalated up to someone who could figure out what the problem was and could fix it.

    So far, I like the system. We've been trying to figure out if we're gonna keep the service because of all the billing issues. As long as we don't have any billing issues, we'll probably continue. ADT needs a better way to problem solve this billing issue. They said, "Well, we can fix it, but we're not going to. So, talk to your local salesman." He was like, "I don't know what to do." Then he escalated it and they ended up escalating it to a VP, and then the VP didn't get it fully fixed. So, then I start receiving more bills saying they're gonna give us one-time charges. Then it was back to calling customer service. I was on the phone for probably four to six hours to try to get this resolved, which was terrible, and I work a lot. I don't have that time to waste.

    Setting up ADT was straightforward and easy. The package was all part of what Nest had set up in terms of the transition and ADT simply took advantage of it. Right now, because of the incentive, I'm not paying anything for the first year. But ADT’s accessibility from the phone such as the screens and the log-on are not as nicely done as what Nest had.     For senior citizens, ADT Self Setup is not that good. My husband and I were not able to do it by ourselves. We're not used to that kind of technology. We had our son-in-law come over the day before and he fixed it up. It seemed to work fine. But today, one of the sensors fell off of the back door. It wasn't sticky enough. We will see if he could find a way to put it back on and make it stay. We are glad to have alarm systems. We hope it will work when we're gone. But it has been difficult for us.

    ADT’s software is not user-friendly. They wanted everybody to switch to them and off my prior system and it was very unfair. I received two units that didn't work and I need to return them. Overall, it was not a good experience. The phone app is much weaker than the desktop app. It doesn't allow you to customize your system and it's not user-friendly to customize your system to set up additional profiles. We live on the second floor and I wanna turn the electric on when I'm downstairs. To program that in the system does not work. I haven’t contacted ADT about it because I haven't had an extra hour to wait for customer service on the phone. I spent about 45 minutes on hold the first time and about 30 minutes the second time.

    ADT still gives me letters stating that I haven't initiated my Nest. I don't even know if I'm being monitored or I didn't go through the trial phase because I didn't have it set up. So, I don't use any of the buttons. I also don't use the power because I'm afraid I'm gonna have the alarm go off. But the camera in the front yard and the doorbell are working. But I don't know if the motion sensors are working. It's really confusing and I wasn't able to get clarity if I'm all set up and if I still need to be set up. I've tried to do it online and watch the videos. I did talk to somebody once, but they said I had to wait till the next day to see it was online, or I had signed it up correctly for some reason and I didn't know how to wait. I didn't know what to do the next day.

    The gentleman that helped me was wonderful. He stayed on the phone until I had every question answered. But by the time that they had gotten back to me, it was the next day and I had pretty much figured out most of it by going online and looking for the help for setup and having to reset everything. Straight out of the box, there was a lot of complications in setting it up. The information wasn't exactly forthcoming for how to reset and do things that needed to be done, trying to hook everything into the two systems.

    The ADT system doesn't integrate very well with my Google system. I'm not liking it now. It's like they're fighting each other. I have to go to each separate app to do things, like arming the ADT system. I thought I would be able to use the ADT app for everything. But it's not picking up my cameras too well. Google also doesn't wanna operate very well with ADT yet. I should be able to go to my Google Home app and be able to do anything I wanted to do with that system because that was what they were telling me it was gonna be doing. But it hasn't done it yet. I understand they have been working on this, and it's gonna take some time with the integrating between the two. But as of right now, it's not exactly a great system to work with. I had some trouble with it connecting to my internet system, which is also with Spectrum.

It's also not as good-looking as the previous system. There always seemed to be some kind of issues with the magnets on the sensors. I'm glad I got the replacement system for my old one. But I'm displeased that Google bought a company just to shut it down and sign a contract with ADT. It's an inferior product. Out of all the self setup systems on the market, I don't see one that is good, or as good as Nest was.

Whereas with the Nest system, there was a little button on each one of the door sensors and I could push it, and that would allow me to open the door without setting off the alarm. Older people didn't like it because they had to push the button every time. But we still felt we had the alarm on when we were home. We like it. It was a nice peace of mind. That's more of a design on the whole security system than it is with the actual service, which has been fine. I get it. The company got bought out. They gave me an ADT subscription. So, it's fine. That's my only complaint. I paid for Brinks. So, it is nice to not have to pay. I got a year free and I would have to pay after the year.

    I'm good with technology. So, I got it set up easily. ADT Self Setup gave us the sensors. There was a new little home system. I set that up. I had to buy one extra sensor because I had an extra door than what they sent me, which was fine. And I got everything hooked up. I had to switch to Google Home. It wasn't a big deal because I didn't like Alexa anyway and I liked the Google Home a lot better.

    A day before the Nest ran out, we got a free starter kit from ADT. We had ordered that but I wasn't able to register it until it arrived and we set it all up. And I wasn't able to order any additional accessories until it was registered. I paid for two-day shipping but it didn't arrive for a week. So, I was without any sort of security system for a week at that point. I called the next day to order additional door and window sensors and a motion detector. Those were supposed to be here in five to seven business days. 10 days went past and it was still not here. So, I called and ADT said they did not process the order. So, it hasn't even started sending yet. It was one thing after another and ultimately, it resulted in my house not being secure in the way that we had hoped it would be for a solid month.

    We had set up the Nest before and ADT was very comparable. It is adequate. It was difficult to get the setup that I wanted but it's fine now that everything's done and figured out. The downside is it is not as nice as Nest. The sensors seemed like they were bulkier and they needed to be closer together so that combination made it hard to find the perfect position on a door or a window.

    The other thing is ADT's sensors don't have the motion-activated piece and the safety button on them that the Nest had. I bought more of them. So, it must be okay. But it was not as clean-cut as the Nest, which I had for 10 years prior. The station itself is not as intuitive or easily used as the Nest was. I don't mean to keep comparing ADT to another product but it's my understanding that we all paired with Nest and they suggested ADT as the replacement. So, I expected it to be at least as good as the Nest and it turned out that it was not. The customer support is nonexistent. We had a free year trial of a connection to ADT and the alarm accidentally tripped two weeks ago. We never got the phone call that we were supposed to get from ADT for the free service that we had received.

    Since my Nest devices are being retired, I was supposed to get an email for a free transfer to ADT. I never received the email. When trying to go through customer service with ADT and Google, they couldn't do anything about it. There was no way to confirm that I had the Nest device or that I was eligible to transfer. So, I had to wait for a second round of emails to come out right before the deadline, which was April, to get it transferred. I did eventually get another email that everybody else got with my transfer code. The transfer was impossible unless you had that specific code. But once I got that, it was an easy transfer.

    I have ADT products now. Switching out was easy. It was self-explanatory for the directions and the ADT app. I have the ADT secure hub. It has the two windows/door security units. So, that was the same from Nest to ADT. Then it also bundled in the Google doorbell and a motion sensor. Those are two things that I didn't have before, and that was a good addition. Sometimes, the ADT app and the old Nest app have trouble talking to one another. Sometimes, they would just transfer you right back to the ADT app or the Google Home app. Then it would say there was an error. Once you finally get through with it and you can just use the ADT app, then it's good.

    I have Nest Aware and it only works when it wants to. The app is not consistent and keeps locking us out. The hub will be green for two days and all of a sudden, it's red. I'll call ADT and they'll tell me to reset it and it'll work for two days, then it's back to the same thing. Yesterday, I went to arm my system and I was able to walk around my house, open the doors, and nothing. I set up two appointments for ADT to help me out. On one, they never called at all. And on the other one, the techs were an hour late. I asked what was going on and they said they were running behind. That was unacceptable. I was sitting at home during my time frame waiting for them and then I was not home and they called me an hour later. So now, I have to wait another week to get a service call.

    It's been a horrible experience with ADT. People should go to Brinks. I had them for five years before I switched to ADT. I never had any problems with Brinks and if I wanted to reach them and I had an issue or a question or concern, they helped me immediately. It was never I had to call six times and be on the phone for an hour and a half.

    In the beginning, the ADT system wasn't communicating with the base unit, so it wasn't working. But I know a lot about this and I resolved the issue myself. It required a lot of knowledge of how these systems work. The ADT system is an improvement over what I had. The other one would drop a lot, off the service, off the network, and I had difficulty getting it back up. Sometimes it would not activate. But this one stays on all the time. I've not had a drop a single time. Like the Google Home, ADT came with a camera. I had a little problem with that but I knew what to do.

    I was hesitant about ADT but I've been happy with it. It’s an easy system to set up and does what it's supposed to do. But the buttons to deactivate it could be a little better because they're a little bit laggy and my other people in the house have set it off accidentally because the buttons don't click along with the tone. But other than that, it's been perfect. I like it a lot better. It’s a great system and a good self-setup.

    The reps were informative and I was totally rave about the other programs that ADT offers but I don't have a whole lot of great things about the Self Setup. I would have preferred someone else set the system up. I had issues setting up the camera doorbell and trying to drill in the hole for that on the wall. I also don't like that I have to take the doorbell camera off to charge it and that it'll go dead whenever I don't. The time that I wanted to check my camera footage, I realized it was dead so it didn't work in the time that I wanted it. It takes over six hours to charge it and whatever time frame it’s being charged, it's not recording anything. I would prefer not to have a battery that I have to constantly charge. What if I forget and that's the time that I need it the most?

    A salesman came and explained about ADT Self Setup. Since we had done SimpliSafe and it was so easy to set up, he said it was as easy. We sat down one weekend, got it all laid out, and got it done in two hours. It was very simple. If you read the directions, you have no issues at all. We have the door sensors. We put one at the top and made sure that the magnet at the bottom is lined up and close enough that when we open the door, it will trigger the alarm. It has a tape that sticks like one would never believe. The windows are the same way.

    The cameras are easy to set up as well. They're a bit more difficult as far as not mounting them, but they still weren't bad. We charged them for the first time yesterday and it took four hours for them to charge up. I love the system. Between the apps and the sound that each window and door makes when the contacts are no longer attached to each other, you hear the little bing, bing come through the station. It goes to my phone and tells me what door or window is open or closed. It's very user-friendly.

    ADT Self Setup seems like a good product and the price is reasonable. I had to have some help with the setup though. It'd be nice if they had a book that came along with the system to guide people through the setup a little better. I had to get ahold of someone twice, and it went good. They could lead me through the steps. I can use my camera, and they could see what I was seeing and tell me what buttons to push. That was very helpful.

    I would also like ADT+ to ring on my phone so that I know when someone comes. I have a big garage at the back of my property, and I might be back there, so I don't even know when someone comes to the front door and rings the doorbell. 15 seconds after they've left, I get a notice that someone was there. That's one thing I'm not crazy about. I was also having a bit of a problem with my back door camera recognizing my face. When I'm working out in the back, every time I walk out of the garage or out of the house, I get a notification, then it shows up on the camera. It doesn't wanna recognize me.

    We're on a free trial for a year and it took a little while to get adjusted to the system, but it's working all right. The support team helped me set it up, and they were good. At first, I couldn't understand the first reps I had because I have a problem understanding foreign people. The next person that I got on the support team was very helpful because I could understand him and he spoke very good English. In my opinion though, ADT should stay away from the foreign people because sometimes it's difficult to understand what they're saying because they don't speak good English and they speak too fast. Overall, ADT Self Setup is not the greatest, but it's okay. They also offered us a $100 Visa card for signing up for the program.

    Enrolling with ADT Self Setup was fairly straightforward. I used the documentation online and went through all the steps. It wasn't complicated. ADT is good. There are just a few features that I do miss out of the Nest products. It's a direct 1 to 1 comparison, but it's fine.     Everything with ADT has been fine except it seems to disconnect from the Nest products intermittently, which is really annoying. I swapped out some of the equipment and I kept some of it.     The self setup is easy. But the Google doorbell I got came with the wires. So, I still never got it up and running. And I had a problem switching my cameras over from the home app to the actual ADT Self Setup app. When I first had the service, I couldn't see my cameras in my ADT app for the first week. Today, I have a virtual meeting set up with ADT. Because when I switched internet providers, it was hard. For some reason, I was able to just switch my cameras over. It wouldn't let me hook my hub up.

    When I first called ADT Self Setup with the problem, I thought it would be something that we could fix over the phone. I'm paying for the service. Would it all be down for a whole week? At first, I kept trying to just do it myself. And I'm still trying to figure out. What would the troubleshooter tell me differently to do that I couldn't do it myself? But a lot of the people that is customer service don't speak good English. They're foreigners. They have a strong accent. So, the communication is not consistent. They're getting frustrated. I am too. I would call them if I had a problem, the problem is not getting rectified but we could barely understand each other.

    We had some issues where the ADT system stayed in practice mode for way longer than it was supposed to, and nobody could tell me why. It was only supposed to stay in practice mode for seven days. More than two weeks later, it was still in practice mode. But then we were also told when we switched over that it would be able to work with our whole Nest system as far as our cameras, and it doesn't see three of our cameras. It only sees the doorbells that I got with the ADT system. So now, even though I've given ADT the permission for my Google cameras, it will not locate any of them. I also don't like that ADT sensors for the doors do not have a button that you can silence when you go out. So I wake up my son every morning that I leave my house at 4:00 AM for the gym. Whereas with my Google Nest Aware system, there's a button on the front door that I could push to silence it when I went out.

    ADT is very disorganized and has no idea of what they are doing. Nest Aware, a product from Google, has a partnership with ADT to provide their existing customers a service on products that Google partnered with ADT to continue the services. Google discontinued certain products that they have sold on the market as of April 2024 and as a result, Google discontinued certain products that I had purchased and used for the last number of years directly with them. They sent me an email informing me of that decision to no longer support the product.

    Option number one is, that ADT would provide me with a voucher to the equivalent of X and Y amount so that I can purchase directly from Google products that I can replace my no longer supported products. Or option number two, I can just call ADT and have it all set up for 12 months on Google, not having to pay ADT a dime to make up for the products they no longer support. I do a self-setup and call it a day.

    I initially called ADT two months ago and the representatives had no idea what this product was all about. I said this was a partnership between Google and ADT and gave the rep the code that I was given. This was the phone that I was given and it was interesting that they had no idea what I was talking about. The lady, after four transfers, was able to get me to somebody who had some understanding of this partnership, and then view that process for me to ship out the products that I could self-set up. But because of the inexperience in dealing with this process, the shipment was wrong. So she told me she could cancel the shipment even though it was going to ship out to me and she was gonna send me another shipment with the correct product with the bundle. I said okay and I waited. I received confirmation that it will be shipped in X, Y and Z.

    There were two separate confirmations via text and email for two separate shipments of the bundle. I received the wrong bundle but the correct bundle that they shipped never arrived. So, I made several calls back to ADT explaining what happened and again, nobody understood what I was telling them. I have family members who were in the same situation and they never had that problem but I also have another relative who was using the same Google product that was discontinued and was having exactly the same problems I had.

    Finally, after several conversations, the reps were able to get to me a gentleman from ADT who knew exactly what I was looking for and what the partnership between the two companies was. He said I had to ship back the wrong bundle that was shipped to me before they would be able to regenerate a new order and send me a new order. I told him to send me the shipping label. I'd do what I need to do and then, they could ship me the new one. He said that nobody knew about this from ADT and it had been a hassle and frustrating experience for me. He asked me to let him try within the next hour to see if he could just send me the parts that I needed to make the bundle that I was sent whole so they don't have to cancel the current order and then get the new order for me. I told him to do that and then get back to me whenever they could. He said the latest was within 24 hours.

    The guy called me back. He left a voicemail when I was at work and I couldn't pick up the call. He said he tried but there wasn’t much that he could do. He sent the shipping label via email and I would have to send back the old one. Then, I need to call back and place a new order. He gave me his number to call because he was the one who supposedly knew the whole situation and I don't have to explain myself again. He was very nice. I called him back but he wasn't available. I spoke to somebody else. After five transfers and an hour later, the reps got me to the right department. I explained the whole situation of what happened and why I had to call back. I gave the rep the name of the person I spoke with the day before and told him what I was there for. I confirmed I already shipped back the wrong order so he could log in to the system because the system would allow him now to generate a new order for me.

    The whole nine yards took 20 minutes and then after, he came back and said it was gonna be $499. He asked how I would like to pay. I said I had a code and I gave it to him. He had no idea what I meant but the maximum he could give me was 10%. So it was $50 less for 499 and I would be paying $450 and some change after tax. I told him I could forward the contract that I had signed with ADT that I have on my record saying this is a partnership between the two companies and as a result of Google trying to replace a product they no longer support, via ADT, I will be getting these items free of charge. He said it was too good to be true. He had never heard about this and he would get to his supervisor.

    15 minutes later, he came back and said he spoke with his supervisor and for him to process it, I’d have to make the payment. I said I didn't expect him to believe me but I have evidence. I have the wrong bundle with me that I returned with their shipping label and I didn't even have an issue forwarding the email of the contract that I had a few days back. I told him I needed to speak with someone, maybe who understands about this or maybe his supervisor. He said he would file a case number in the system and the supervisors would have a maximum of 24 hours to get back. 24 hours later, nothing ever happened.

    I am stuck with no products to use and I can't even go back to Google to tell them to send me whatever they need to send and I'll purchase and that I have a code. Because I already spent that code with ADT. I was very frustrated and I was not willing to deal with this. It was supposedly a simple process and I had to go back to square one. No one understood what I was trying to tell them. And maybe they were thinking in their minds I was trying to milk the system because this free of charge was too good to be true. Nobody that I spoke to after understood that there was a relationship going on and I find that astonishing because between the two big companies, no one ever had a memo, even before they started this whole initiation. I find it very difficult to believe.

    I called back within a week and I spoke with someone. I explained the whole situation and this person happened to hear about this partnership in the same department from ADT and knew where to transfer my call. She transferred me to another person who was a gentleman this time and said he just processed for someone, so he knew exactly what was going on. He asked me for a code and I gave it to him. He said the code had been used before and I let him know it was because I had the wrong order. He was able to process it and a week later, I got what I wanted. That took three weeks, several minutes, if not hours, and frustration, because nobody knew what I was talking about. It was incredible. I've never had an experience like this before so it was terrible.

    I had existing Google or Nest Aware products and I still have a screen Google, the bell and existing cameras that are no longer working with them, even though it says it is compatible. I'm able to use my Google Hub to control both the ADT products that I received recently as well as my existing products that are still supported by Google. But I cannot go into ADT. I don't have ADT access to those other products that didn't belong to ADT, even though they're all Google products. So now, I have to use ADT+ to control whatever I have from ADT and then I have to use Google Hub to control whatever I have that I have on the existing supported equipment that I purchased directly from Google.

    The transfer from Nest was all done online. It was easy to get. But I still haven't 100% set it up because I have an issue with the password. Also, ADT Self Setup just gave me the alarm part and the doorbell. The cameras are separate stuff I had to buy. But if ADT had a special like that, I would have taken it in a heartbeat. The incentive was the equipment would be for free. I spent over $800 with the Nest. So, I have equipment that I couldn't use. Other than that, ADT Self Setup is a good service.
