I have the LG dryer. The inside metal drum has a crack and hole at the welding site. I had the technician out and he stated that the weld site was faulty or weak. He contacted LG and told them the problem and they still do not want to do anything to repair it. I am simply drying clothes not brick, how does a drum get a hole on it. I will never own another LG product in my life.

My LG Steam Washer WM 2688 HWMA not only shakes the house when it spins the clothes dry, but has developed a mold problem. I have tried bleach and leaving the door open, but the smell continues. I have just returned from the allergist where I found out that I am allergic to mold. This stinky washer could be adding to my allergy problems.

After about one year of ownership, the machine interior smells horribly of mildew and very frequently at the start of a cycle, a "de" error code registers until you restart it. Obviously, the clothes also smell of mildew and the machine itself is gross. It was a very expensive machine and to have it stink and malfunction as it has, is a gross disappointment.

We purchased the LG Tromm WM2277HS in August of 2007. We based our purchase on consumer reports, which gave the LG the highest scores across the board for noise, cleanliness, repair issues, etc. The first machine we had vibrated so badly that it sounded like a space ship was taking off in my house. That was days after having it. Home Depot had a different unit delivered. Since then, we still have had noise problems but even worse shortly after having the new unit, there was a foul smell coming from the washing machine. I have bleached the washer, used vinegar, you name it. The smell is there. You either get nasty sewer smell or the distinct smell of mold!
I am disgusted that we spent so much money, money that we could not necessarily afford on a washing machine like this. I am disgusted with both LG and Consumer Reports. I will never listen to consumer reports again. My guess is that LG made a sweet deal with consumer reports to give their units such high praise. The reviews were so great I'm sure sales went up for LG, of which consumer reports the so-called unbiased source profited as well. There is black junk inside the unit and I am sick of cleaning it. I am also embarrassed as we were so excited to be getting this washer and dryer. Now, we look like fools to everyone.
I hope LG steps up and fixes these machines. I hope consumer reports actually starts reporting the facts because now two years later, the facts are there. Perhaps it's fear of retaliation from customers. Either way, I hope LG pays as it's not fair to all of us as consumers to fork out money for repairs and new machines when the units we have are not even two years old! Ugh!

In October 2006, I purchased an LG washer/dryer combo for $1700, more than if I had bought a washer and a dryer separately. I need repairs on it. It is out of warranty, except for the drum and drum motor. But unfortunately, neither of those is the problem. I have been in contact with LG Customer Service 7 times today already. They have supplied me with several phone numbers of repair centers, ranging from 15 to 100 miles away, as well as suggested that I contact someone, anyone, locally. I live in somewhat of a rural area, so my local choices are fairly limited.
In my 7th and last call to LG, basically, I was told "Sorry. As a consumer, I understand; but we cannot help you any further." Do I have any recourse? I bought this unit in good faith, never dreaming that I would need service in less than 3 years' time and certainly never imagining that I couldn't get it serviced when needed. Also, I have learned that they have discontinued this unit altogether. And I guess I know why!

I purchased an LG front-loading washer and dryer and an LG dishwasher. Both products produce a terrible smell. I've had service people come out and they told me nothing can be done. My washer fills up with black gooey mold if I don't run it with bleach and leave the door open. The dishwasher smells like something died if I don't run it twice a day. These are terrible products. I can't believe nothing has been done about this company. Home Depot should not carry these products, much less promote them as they do. My clothes stink. My dishes stink. I have to run the cycles multiple times.

Wife bought a washer/dryer pair in late 2005. Washer model WM2277H had vibrated for the last 2 years. We thought it was just the door latch needing adjustment, so we put up with the noise. We had a serviceman here today to look at another appliance and he checked the washer. He said the tub bearings are probably bad. He showed me how the tub was revolving wobbly. He called LG parts. The bearings, seals and shaft are $150. Labor will be $300. That’s on a $1000 4-year old machine!

I purchased an LG washer dryer combo about three years ago. I needed a small unit that would fit in an upstairs closet and this model looked like a good fit for the space. The unit has never dried clothes properly. I have to game the control panel to get it to dry anything. I have spent almost $300 in service calls, the most recent one today to replace the thermostat and heating element and the unit still won't dry a load of clothes unless I set the controls to extra wash and more dry, this on a small load of clothes. Moreover, it takes weeks to get parts. I will never buy another LG appliance.

In December of '05 I purchased an LG black washer and dryer from Best Buy in Delafield, WI. It was delivered in January '06. Over the last few years I have had a sporadic problem when it went into the spin cycle. I never thought it was anything serious--just thought the load was off balance. In the last few months this problem has escalated so that it vibrates so hard and loud it actually causes some crystal collectables in a cabinet behind the washer wall to fall off their pedestals. I must point out that I did not purchase a service contract. My husband and son-in-law tried leveling the machine and also called Best Buy for service to come and level (that bill was approx. $133.00). The serviceman suggested buying pads to fit under the machine to absorb the vibrations (cost of approx. $65.14). These pads did not solve the problem. I'm wondering why LG had these pads. Is it possible that other customers had the same problem? I telephoned LG customer service 3 times, spoke to three different customer service reps (Jason, Gilbert, and Alfonso) and received no support.
I asked to speak to a supervisor and I talked to Freddie (he didn't give me his last name). I told him my story, and suggested that perhaps the washing machine was defective from day 1. I do 4-5 loads of laundry per week and I'm away 3 months a year, so the machine in my estimation should have a lifespan of at least 5 years. The repair on this machine is estimated to be around $500-$550. Since I already have the service call and pads bill that brings it to $700-$750. Note: the color black has been discontinued from LG's washers and dryers, so if I replace it I would have two different colored appliances sitting on black pedestals (the pedestals were $229 each). So now we're looking at replacing both washer and dryer so we can have coordinating colors since I have a 1st floor lady room. I am so frustrated with this whole messy situation, but am grateful to have a place to vent. I will be forever grateful if anyone could help me to find a cost-effective solution to this problem.

The front loading LG Washer I purchased for my family back in August 2004, Model #WM2277HB, catastrophically failed. The top, 15 lb. counter balance worked itself free of its mounting posts. It then fell at an angle landing on the large rubber seal at the door opening, wearing holes on the seal. It then broke the third mounting peg off the outer drum causing it to leak and spin out of balance. The counter balance fell to the bottom of the machine, lodging itself against the front face and denting it. The counter balances are mounted on a plastic, two-piece outer drum by four (4) expansion posts. A screw with a wedge head is driven through the post to expand the three arms of the post to keep the weight in place. No washers, clips, or keepers are used to secure counter balance beyond the wedge screw and plastic post, exposing the system to the possibility of losing the weight. Of the four mounting posts, two broke. The other two posts still held the original wedge screw which speaks to the fact that the wedge screw/plastic post design did not hold the counter balance in place during operations. The outer drum construction is 1/8th of an inch thick plastic. Where the posts are molded, the plastic is thinner because of an offset in the mold design. The thinnest spot measured where the post is molded is less than a 3/32nd of an inch thick. This shows how the drum is designed. Great care went into reducing the amount of plastic used to build that drum. These drums like the machine are not over engineered, but designed to save money on material and manufacturing costs.
This problem started shortly after owning the machine for four years around December or November 2008 where it knocked and shook a little. When the machine began knocking louder and leaking, spinning out of balance and jumping across the floor, I investigated the problem. I called LG in early April 2009 to discuss the situation and the damage I found. Photos were taken of all the damage and sent to a case manager, Jose **, (Case #**). After exchanging emails and explaining the problem looked like a design flaw after consulting an LG certified appliance repairman, we received no further communication from LG. A call was made today, June 2, 2009, to follow up with LG and see what assistance they could offer since this is not a typical malfunction. I spoke to a customer service supervisor named Keith. He did not have my file or photos of the problem nor could he find the file. I explained the situation to him and the history noting that we’ve been patiently waiting for a response for nearly 2 months. Keith, armed with his sticky note, simply stated that the washer was out of warranty and there was nothing LG could do. I asked to speak to his supervisor, and he responded that the executives don’t like to get involved in these matters, but he would send them a note to ask if they would like to speak with me. Their response was no.

I bought an LG washing machine and dryer 3 years ago and have not been satisfied with the washer since the purchase. As others have mentioned, there is always a moldy smell, and I have to leave the washer door open. Also, periodically there is a buildup of gunk under the washing machine, and it sometimes doesn't spin properly and leaves too much water in the clothing. I also paid $1400 for this machine, so it is beyond ridiculous that after spending this much money, clothes don't smell freshly cleaned and sometimes have to be dried 2 or 3 times to get all the water out. LG, your product is a disgrace. I do not recommend this product to anyone.

In Oct. of 2007, I purchased an LG Tromm washing machine (wm2277hb) and electric dryer (dle5977b) because they were supposed to be efficient and clean better! Ha! Shortly after buying them, the washer started to smell of mold/mildew, then so did our clothes. I called LG and they told me to use bleach and the tub clean cycle, leave the door open, wipe the seal, clean the drain holes and drain the water! Oh yeah and I should get the Affresh tablets. What a joke. I spent a lot of money ($1,100) on a washing machine that now requires more attention than my three teenage boys; not to mention, none of the things totally worked. I am so disgusted with the whole thing. Calling LG is like talking to the wall since my warranty is expired. I disassembled the machine and thoroughly cleaned it with bleach, and it still stinks!
Then there is the dryer that has from day one taken almost two hours or more to dry the clothes. Now, there is no heat. When I called LG, they had no info for me and were very rude after I expressed that I was disappointed with their product. After spending $1,900 for a washer and dryer, I expected them to last more than 1 1/2 years. I get the impression that LG thinks they are disposable items that I should cough up more money for another set. What has happened to a company standing behind their products!? Mold in the washer is a serious issue to health and something should be done. LG should be held accountable for the poor quality product and service they offer.

I bought my washer about 2 years ago. Within the first 2 months of having the washer, I started having problems. The control panel went out. It took 2 weeks to have a service man come out. Finally when he came out, he told me it was the control panel and they would have to order it. After 3 weeks of waiting, they came back out with the wrong part (LG sent them the wrong part). So, after waiting all that time, I still didn't have it fixed. Finally when they got the right part, it was fixed after waiting 2 months without a washer.
After 6 months of having the washer, this black mold started coming on. I did everything it says for cleaning the thing - nothing helps. Now every load I do, it stops in mid cycle and blinks whether IE or OE. If you’re fast enough to get to the washer, you can press the start button 2 times and it will continue the load. If not, you have to start it over. I have to put towels in front of the washer every time. If not, I have water all over my laundry room floor. I bought this washer thinking it would last me more than 2 years. I have 5 people in my family I do laundry for and I cannot afford to buy a new one. LG needs to step up to the plate and recall their products. I will never ever buy another LG product again! I lost many clothes due to the mold smell. My family has been getting sick all the time now due to the mold.

I complained about the moldy smell of my clothes and the mold growing in the washer itself, a month after purchasing the machine. I was told to clean the filters, put one cup of bleach directly into the drum and wash on high heat setting. I did all of this and nothing has improved. I called, emailed, left messages for someone to call me back - no response. I'm throwing out clothes daily because they smell. It's very embarrassing to have this problem. After spending $1500 on a washing machine, I'd love to throw it out! They have now told me since I called again that it's out of warranty and they can't do anything about it. Next stop is Good Housekeeping or a lawyer to try and handle this moldy situation. It's unhealthy!

Washing machine drum stopped turning. Repairman came in to fix and said he could fix it but there is so much mold inside the machine it would not work for a very long time. We're looking at a $330 plus repair bill. Customer service politely told me there was nothing they could do. The machine is just under three years old. Now, after washing with another washing machine (at a laundromat), I'm noticing what clean clothes smell like after three years of smelling stinky clothes. After paying nearly $1,300 for this machine, all I can say is that I am very disappointed with this machine.

LG will assume no responsibility even though I have found literally hundreds of complaints related to cracked dryer drums after 2 years. We are also experiencing a mildew smell coming from the washer and are unable to correct the problem by cleaning the washer. I purchased the LG washer and dryer from Best Buy in Sept 06. My washer model is WM2688HNM. I previously owned the Frigidaire front loading washer. I got rid of it because I could not get rid of the mildew smell. Foolishly, I bought the LG front loader thinking it was a brand issue with the Frigidaire and the LG would be better. From day one, I used HE soap, 1 tbsp. I always left the door of the washer open immediately after washing clothes, kept the gasket dry, used the tablets they recommended once a month, etc. I still ended up with a mildew odor so strong that I am now washing at the laundry mat. Best Buy keeps trying to repair this machine and does not want to replace it. This will be the second time I've had to replace the washer due to mildew. The Frigidaire washer was not even a year old and I just could not use it. Now, the LG is not even 3 years old and I cannot use it either.
All of these companies know the front loaders end up with mildew problems and continue to sell them. Something needs to be done because with today's economy, who can afford to run out and buy a new washing machine? Why should we have to buy a new machine when these aren't even lasting 3 years? I spent almost two grand for a washer and dryer and I'm at the laundry mat? It's just wrong! My daughter has very bad allergies and I cannot expose her to mildew. I need to have back surgery and trying to carry clothes to and from the laundry mat is very difficult for me. This has cost me a lot of extra monies that I do not have to spend.

I purchased an LG Tromm washer and dryer (model DLE8377NM, serial number 610KWXD01146) on 12/16/06 and a 24-month extended warranty from Conn's. My dryer started making a horrible noise so I contacted LG repair (Velaro) and asked about what it could be. They said I could have a cracked drum or the rollers could be bad, but I needed a technician to take a look at it to be certain. I got the name of an LG appliance repair service center from LG while chatting to Neil online. After a $70 service call and getting my dryer taken apart, I was told that I had a cracked dryer drum. The weld had broken and the metal shaved portions of the blower motor and two front rollers off. The technician believed that the weld was defective and told me I should call LG and see if they would help with the cost to replace it. This model (Tromm) was one of LG's top of the line dryers. When purchased, you would think after paying $1,200 for a dryer that it would last longer than 2 1/4 years!
I called LG customer service and the representative (Velma) said she would talk to the manager and see if they would do anything to help me. They would not. I was too far out of warranty. You would think that a defective weld on the dryer drum that is now costing me $426.18 to get replaced and dryer repaired would be at least partially covered. It was not covered in any way shape or form. I am upset that after paying $1200 for the dryer, and had 24-month extended warranty which expired in December that I have to pay so much to get it fixed after only a little over two years! I wash as little as two loads a week, occasionally 3 or 4 depending on if I wash sheets or blankets. I do not use the appliance every day and wonder if I should have stuck with the $350 dryer I got from Sam's. I thought I was buying a quality washer and dryer. I could go buy a new dryer for what it is costing me for the repair!
I just want people to be aware that even though you may pay a small fortune for high end appliances, they are not any better than the lower end appliances and add a warning that extended warranties are not all they are cracked up to be. Think about it long and hard before you purchase one because it seems like these days, an appliance will last only as long as the warranty or in my case, three months after the warranty expired! Manufacturers don't seem to want to take responsibility for defects in the workmanship even if it is discovered only after the manufacturer’s warranty expires.

I, too, had mold & mildew growing inside my washer. No one told me I had to keep the door open when not in use. They especially didn't explain anything negative when I was purchasing the washer. I never had to do that with a top-loading washer. There was also a mildewy smell in our clothes.
The repairman from Best Buy told me that if I would put two tablespoons of dishwasher detergent inside the washer (where you put your clothes), and fill the bleach dispenser full with bleach, then run a normal load, it would eliminate the odor. I tried it while he was there because there was no way he was leaving unless it worked. Believe it or not, it worked. The smell was gone. He also told me to use Zud cream cleanser for the mildew on the rubber lining inside the washer. It removed a lot of the mildew but not all. He said I should do this about once a month to keep the odor away.
As for the small door on the bottom left, what can I say? It's disgusting! I have to shove three to four towels under the washer before I open it to clean it. It leaks everywhere! You have to clean this at least every other month.
I feel that all I did when I purchased this washer was add more work for my self. I have never had to clean a washer like this before. It's enough to make me want to sue LG for fraud and misrepresentation of their product.

I'm a regular user of LG products, and they work fine. I had purchased an LG frontloading washing machine (model no -WD -80485NP, serial no - WD6-710PNHN009249). After 4-5 months, my clothes are not getting a quality wash. It's like they're not being cleaned. I had registered complaints at the service center many times but to no avail. I believe the engineers at LG service division are not well up to mark to solve the consumer problems.
Nearly 10-15 of them who had come out for repair suggested a new washing method (like use same type of cloths, pre-heating water, pre-wash). Others suggested cotton, hand wash only or do the quick 30. They even suggested running the machine without clothes for at least 30 minutes before every wash. One gave a good suggestion of cleaning air filter. With that, we achieved little but did not solve the problem completely.
When I registered a complaint at the service center, they assured me of resolving the issue within 24 hours; but they never kept their words. I'm fed up of calling the support team. At times, I feel like I'm begging for their service. They would give out a different complaint ID every time I call and say the same thing. Hence, I have decided to stand by my rights as a consumer and instead of begging, I'm taking them to consumer court for justice.

We finally figured out that the dryer drum was cracking at the seam where it was welded. We called LG to see if they would help with the repair since the dryer was not even 2 year old, but they refused any help because they only warranty it for 1 year. I tried to explain that the drum on a 2 year old, $1,000 dryer should not crack in less than 2 years. But they still will not help with the repair.
I also found many internet blogs with other LG customers who have experienced the same problem with no LG remedy. LG needs to acknowledge the poor manufacturing of the dryer drum, in how it is welded. They need to stand behind their product and help their customers experiencing this problem with an affordable repair. A $400.00 repair on a 2 year old dryer is unaffordable to us. We would have been better off buying a cheap dryer. It would have lasted a lot longer. I will never purchase or recommend another LG appliance again. On 3/3/09 or thereabout, the dryer would not come on again but it did light up. I could not get anyone on the phone at LG so I had to wait until the following work day. We had the unit tested per their diagnostic tests but wrote LG at that time on the Internet. They outright refused to help because the unit was one month out of warranty.
Two new main control boards have been ordered and replaced which fix the problem of not coming on but did not light up, which makes using the dryer completely impossible. Both boards have been returned and we have spent over $300 at this point trying to fix this basically brand new dryer. Nobody knows what to do to fix it and I can't get LG to assume responsibility. This was not an inexpensive dryer and I believe I could expect it, being brand new, to work well past the warranty period. I have asked if we can now get a warranty and they have told me no!
This seems like a fraudulent situation selling dryers that don't work when first delivered and then break within the month after warranty is up. I believe this is called programmed obsolescence. It is unfair and leaves us with a completely new, useless dryer.

However, I did all the things that were suggested and the odor remained. I have noticed that there is black mold on the inside rubber and there is always a puddle of water remaining after each load. It has also collected a nice gunky, stringy glop of stuff in the same area.
I am sick of the smell, and I don't think I should have to invest money in replacing the inner rubber seal when the washer is practically new and the cost was over $1,000. The washer also makes a terrible noise when it is in the spin cycle (no matter how large or small the load). It sounds like the machine is out of balance even though I have checked it with a level. The third thing is that the bleach cup does not completely empty during the load and therefore more bleach drips into the next load and ruins the clothes that are washed next. I have been very careful not to overfill the cup making sure the bleach was well below the full line. As others have experienced, I have had no luck with customer service the two times I have contacted them. I would like to be notified of any legal action that takes place regarding this problem.

I bought a front loading LG washer and dryer in August of 2007. I've had no problems until today when I received the OE message. It turns out I'm the idiot who washed a down comforter which apparently had a hole in it so my drain filter is clogged. I can't quite blame LG for that. I've had no issues with mold or mildew. I leave the washer door open after washing a load because, duh(!), if you leave it closed, of course, mold and mildew are going to grow. It's a dark wet environment. The same thing would happen in an upright washer if the lid sealed completely. Follow the instructions in the user manual and you should have no issues with the LG washer.
I have no problem with the LG dryer except sometimes if I leave it on a normal dry cycle and specify I want the clothes a normal amount of dry, they don't get dry. This is supposed to be an energy saving feature (so the dryer doesn't continue to operate after the contents are fully dry) but apparently the sensor is a little off. No problem - remedy this by using the speed dry setting & select my own time amount and heat setting if I'm concerned about a load being totally dry.
Of course some of these complaints on this website seem warranted, but the majority of them appear to be user errors (maintenance and operation) and LG can't be held accountable for that.

My husband purchased the LG front loader washing machine 2 years ago for $1000 from our local Home Depot. I have had problems with it from the beginning. I get repeated error codes, such as LE and UE and then the washer stops and water collects in the bottom and it doesn't spin. I have called LG Customer Service probably 15 times over the last two years and they cannot seem to produce service repairmen. My machine will start working from time to time if I drain all the water out from the bottom of the filter area. The machine cannot seem to handle spinning more than two towels at a time. The customer service representatives never offer any satisfaction or solutions, so I have now taken the matter back to the manager at our local Home Depot where it was purchased. The tub collects mildew in the rubber tubing and there is a smell all the time. This is a flawed product and LG should offer all who have called repeatedly some solution.
I have spent hours a day, probably twice a week, draining the water out of the machine, by hand, because it won't spin and the motor does not seem strong enough. This is not acceptable for a $1000 machine.

I have been looking online for help to fix the washing machine that doesn't work more often than it does! LG has been worthless in the way of any help! The comments I ran across at this website brought me to the couch with a heavy sigh! I, too, have the disgusting sewer smell! I get error messages at the spin cycle that I cannot figure out the cause of nor can LG! I spent a lot of money on these appliances and have had zero support for all the problems with these appliances. I do five or more loads of laundry daily! Without a $2,000 washing machine that functions, the time spent on laundry has gone from two hours a day to five or more! Thanks a lot, LG. Thanks a lot.

We purchased an LG washer which has broken down 2 times in 2 years. Spare parts cannot be kept in stock. When the repairman opened the part, he ordered to fix the washer. He found the part was torn resulting in our washer not being repaired. The product has not lived up to the quality good life experience that we had been led to believe. We are now 3 weeks with no washer and the extra expense of running to the laundry mat. Sad as it may be, LG customer service can only provide lip service with nothing getting resolved for their consumers. I will never purchase another LG product no matter what Consumer Reports says. I will make sure I tell everyone not to purchase LG. First, a washer should hold up much longer than 2 years, especially for the money they charge. Secondly, when repair is needed, service should be fast and courteous in order to retain loyal customers.

NOWHERE in the owner's manual is this written. I explained that this is a design flaw by LG. Water is being left under the drum and it lays stagnant and smells. LG Tromm washing machine does not work after just a few years. Many customers have the exact same problem. If you spin the drum, the machine to remove a piece of clothing, the next time you go to wash a load, the machine will kick out a trouble code of LE and stop working. LG knows about this condition but does nothing to fix the problem. This machine breeds mold and stinks. I leave mine open but we have been hurt by the door hitting us as we go by the machine. It does not spin out the clothing properly and so you waste time and money having to redo the cycle. I hate this machine so much that I am throwing it out and buying a new machine. Called LG again and they suggested we were not using the right cycle or we had screwed it up by using dryer sheets. OH NO. After 4 phone calls trying all the troubleshooting things, they sent a repairman again who said the heat element was gone. Okay, so he ordered that and when he replaced that, the dryer still did not work. He said, "Oops, I think the motherboard is bad too!" NO WAY.
So we called LG again, who said they had no record of any previous repair for us. HOLD ON NOW! Seems they track you by your phone number. Anyway, 2 months have gone by now and the repairman shows up again with the motherboard and the heating element, AND THE DRYER DOES NOT WORK!!! I did not know what it was, but the machine still works. More problems persisted in 2008. This time, it is displaying LE, which means Overload. I can assure you it was not overload. I usually use the speed cycle function. At this time, it no longer works on that cycle. So I have to use other cycles. After using other cycles for a while, it started not to work. Finally, the power just didn't come on anymore.
My uncle is a handyman and tried to inspect the problem. Immediately, he saw the Circuit Board blew out. I used to have a Kenmore washer that lasted about 10 yrs. How in the world does the state of the art washer that cost more money, barely last for three years?! Now I have to purchase a new circuit board not under warranty. You have to order part(s) from one of their three service centers: (1)Vance Baldwin, (2) MCM Electronics and (3) Andrews Electronics. LG's corporate office is located in Alabama of which they only provide warranty work.
On top of that, their customer service dept. lacked training on proper procedure & upper management does not want to return your calls. And when you do speak to the supervisor named Symone **, she is rude and not informative. I asked to be transferred to the Technical Dept. to find out if this is a normal problem; she replied that their Corporate Office did not have a Technical Dept.. What company does not have a Technical Department? At this point, I called MCM Electronics, where I had ordered a NEW Circuit Board and asked if this is a normal problem. Sean ** said that it was NOT a normal problem and they have a lot problems w/ LG washers.
MCM only gives a 90-day warranty for the circuit board. The warranty is not a substantial amount of time. I came across one of my friends who had the same problem. She had to order a new circuit board and within a year, it blew out again. This Washer is NOT a good product, nor is the warranty. I would NOT recommend for anyone to purchase LG products. I have an LG front-loading washer (WM0742HWA) which was purchased last July. Regarding the odor problem that many people report, I think it's due to water not being able to drain completely from the washer. I drain the water after every load (or after the last load of the day) via the tube next to the lint catcher and drain about 16 oz. of water each time. I also leave the door open overnight. With these two actions, there isn't a problem with odor. It's an inconvenience to drain the washer after each load. But the washer does a good job cleaning so I'm willing to put up with it.

After only a couple of months, I noticed the awful odor. I called LG and they told me to run a wash cycle with Clorox, I did. It didn't work. I was told to use REFRESH tablets once a month, I did. It didn't work. I was told to run a wash cycle with Cascade on the hottest water with an extra rinse cycle, I did. It didn't work. I was told to leave the door open and dry the rubber seal after every wash; I do but the smell remains.
I can never shut the door. If I do, the smell is absolutely unbearable. My laundry room is small so the door always being open is a problem. I have to tie a shoe string around the hook on the door and attach it to a hook that I have pasted on the side of the machine. It doesn't seem right that you have to babysit a machine that cost over $1,400. Not only that, but I have to schedule laundry. There is no way that you can put a load of laundry in to wash and walk out the door. No!!! You have to make sure that you are there to take it out as soon as it's done so that the horrific smell doesn't attach itself to any more clothes. I have already had to throw away countless towels and wash rags and replace them.
Therefore, my laundry is more behind than ever with this new, top of the line machine!! I emailed a couple of attorneys today to check on some class action lawsuits against LG. Hopefully, the courts will do what they need to do!! If not, I think I still may have to suck it up and send these two out the window and buy an old school top loader that won't let me down!! You know, with all due respect, people need to read their manuals. It clearly states that after washing you should a) wipe the seal dry with a paper towel (optional), and leave the door ajar so the tub and rubber gasket can dry out. Once dry, close it; and b) run the washer through a tub clean cycle (bleach optional if you have really hot water) once every few weeks.
The fact is the washer is built so solid and so air tight that if you consistently close the door before it dries out, the water and leftover microbes will do what nature always does in a warm, moist environment - spark the rapid growth of stinky, smelly, grimy, gray mold! When the door is closed and the gasket is still wet, that dang washer becomes the biggest science experiment around.
And the LE error code? Again, RTFM. It happened to us as well. This is BY DESIGN! You are being told to clean out the filter. It happens when the filter at the bottom becomes clogged with debris. You simply use the teeny, built-in hose to drain any remaining water, pull out the filter, clean out the paper/hair/wrappers, rinse and return. Or better yet, clean out the filter, one way or the other, every month or so as the manual recommends.
Unlike older washers, this one doesn't send the debris down the drain and into the water system. Instead, the gunk ends up in a filter, so you can dispose of it in the rubbish, where it's supposed to go, instead of in your water system. This should be no surprise as the washer is advertised as eco-friendly. The Tromm is a great machine. It's like a Ferrari, powerful, top-of-the-line, but it's not for everyone. You have to maintain it if you want it to continue to be a high performer.

They have both been very solid performers, and I have not had a single incidence of oil staining, gasket mold or musty water, error codes or any need for servicing. I wipe down the inside of the door after I'm done washing for the day and leave the door open for a few hours to help it dry out. I can then close the door and leave it closed until the next wash needs to be done. I've never had to drain the water pan, and have never had the machine shut down during a wash.
The washing machine does such an excellent job spinning the clothes at the end of the cycle that my dryer typically takes only 30 minutes to completely dry the wash. I've been using Ecos HE liquid laundry detergent (100 oz. bottle for $7, good for 100 washes) without any problems and with excellent cleaning results. I've heard complaints about front-loading washers leaving clothes smelling of mildew, as many people complain about on this site, but I've always chalked it up to user error as my experience has been so drastically different. I'm very satisfied with my purchase of the LG Tromm washer and dryer set from Sears and fully expect many more years of outstanding performance.

I bought new washer from Conn's in San Antonio. The washer broke 9 times in the 1 year we owned. It had a smell that would not go away. I had all types of service done - replaced parts, hoses, door gasket. We had to throw away 4 loads of clothing due to the smell. I was told I would have to wash one load a week of bleach and then undo the door on the bottom and drain the machine every time we were done using it. We did run the bleach, leave the door open and spend a large amount of money on odor removers. I refuse to crawl on the ground to disconnect the hoses and drain stinky water on a weekly basis for a product I paid 1400 dollars for plus purchased a 400-dollar warranty. Neither Conn's nor LG would stand up for their product and took all this money for us for a product that I had to replace because it was unusable and ruined clothes.

I bought an LG Front Load washer model 7042HWA on Nov. 28, 2008. After 3-4 washes, the machine went dead. I called PC Richardson where I bought the machine. A technician came and said that "quick connect" had come off and fixed it and left. I did one load and machine died right after. After a lot of haggling with LG, another technician came after a week and fixed the same thing with tape and left. Story repeated itself after one more wash. I was on the phone again fighting with LG. Third time, another technician comes and binds the quick connect with plastic bundler and machine did one load and is totally dead again. It would not even power on. LG will not replace the machine. We have to take time off for them to come and take a look at the machine each time. I've not done washing in a month. I'm agitated and BP is up talking to rude LG customer service. According to them, unless it's not serviceable, they will not replace. I'll give them one more last chance next week.

I purchased my first front loader. I was so excited to watch my clothes wash and that was the beginning of my nightmare. First, I wasn't told about special HE detergent so my clothes began to smell worse than before I washed them. So I called LG and I changed soap. Problem still existed. So I called LG and they said I have to wipe down gasket and clean the door after each use. Problem still existed. I called LG and was informed I had to leave my door open to dry out the washer. Problem still existed. I called LG and was told I had to drain the bottom of the washer at least once a month to get the foul water off the bottom that just sits there. When you do this, there is no way to catch water; it just drains all over floor drenching an entire bath towel and spreading the smell everywhere. Problem still existed. I called LG and was told a new product came out AFFRESH that would solve my problem.
Now I am wiping my door and gasket every day, using special soap, cleaning out the bottom of the drain for the washer and running an empty washer through a cycle with another product that I have to pay for all to wash my clothes. This has helped but I'm not totally satisfied. After a year of owning my washer, I had an appliance repair company come to take a look at my washer just because of the hassle and they suggested I change the entire gasket; it was causing the smell problem which was 200-300 dollars, so I did.
I thought it would finally be better but now the main support bracket has somehow mysteriously broken off and is not supporting the washer tub any more. I just received a call from the appliance repair company and it is estimated to costs 450 dollars with nothing being covered by warranty. My washer is just two years old and I spent 1400 dollars to buy the newest and the best washer and now I need to get a new one so as not to keep pouring more money into a bad product.
The next problem is that I have a stackable unit and either can't fit another kind of washer with my working dryer because the stack kit will probably not work with any other product or I buy both new washer and dryer. I require a stackable unit due to space constraints. If you have any idea what kind of product (washer) other than LG stackable unit would fit with my LG dryer, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for listening!

LG washer WM2487HRM - I spoke to a representative about the mold between the gasket and tumbler. I have tried bleach, Lime Away and the cleaner they sell. I cannot get the mold or smell out. LG says maintenance is necessary. Nowhere in my book does it discuss mold being an issue or having to maintain the gasket. I have followed the other cleaning procedures for cleaning the filters out. I came home from a week's vacation and the smell was double what it normally is. LG cites no defect in the machine. I did notice the newer ones come with more drain holes in the rubber seal as well as the tumbler. Why change it if there is no problem? I bought the extended warranty and will see what Best Buy says they can do.

I, like many, purchased an LG front loader washer and dryer. I have owned them for three years and have had nothing but problems with them. Our washer just died and finding someone to service the product is next to impossible. After reading all the customer complaints on this site, I feel relieved that I am not alone. Everything that everyone has described about their LG washer/dryer I have experienced. I can say I will never buy LG again and will tell as many people as I can not to buy LG!

I am smelling a foul smell in my machine and also found mold around the rubber piece. I have been noticing that it does not do a good job with cleaning. I am very upset because I paid 900.00 dollars for one machine.
