I recently purchased an LG washer and have been having a musty smell issue from the beginning. A technician came and changed the grey gasket and basically told me to wipe the excess water off and leave the door open for it to dry. I am seeing that I am not alone with this problem and it does smell horrible! This sounds like something that LG should be taking care of, not us, the consumers. This was an expensive washing machine and, in my opinion, does not do a better job of cleaning my wash than did my 10-year old top loader!

In May, 2007, we purchased the LG WM0642 front load washing machine and LG DLE0442 dryer from Home Depot. We are extremely disappointed with both. It is a constant battle to keep the washing machine from smelling of mold and mildew. The dryer never dries adequately and must always be restarted and the clothes dried by using timed drying. The washing machine has gotten to the point that I cannot seem to get rid of the odor. We have not contacted LG or Home Depot regarding these issues.

Upon researching the problem online and seeing the multitude of complaints, it became obvious the washing machine has a serious design flaw and no one has any adequate remedies. I have tried several recommendations, such as running a cycle of bleach without clothes, running a cycle of vinegar without clothes , using Affresh Washer Cleaner tablets for Front Load Washers and keeping the door open when the washer isn't running. However, the remedies are temporary, at best. I use HE detergent, as recommended, and I'm careful not to use too much detergent or fabric softener as I've read that can exacerbate the problem.

I, too, am disgusted with the LG front loading washing machine I bought a few years ago. The mold in the gasket is a constant problem. I spend more time trying to dry the gasket and get rid of the mold than I actually spend on the laundry itself. It's time for a class action suit/or major recall of this defective product. Exactly what kind of testing did LG do before deciding these machines were fit for consumer sale?

We bought a LG Tromm washer and dryer. All along I thought it was me losing my mind over the smell in the washer and on certain clothing especially towels and facecloths. I too have fought with the rubber gasket around the drum trying to pull all the nasties out of there, impossible to do. Also I have resorted to wetting down my cloths in a bucket of water before washing because I noticed that some times the cloths come out of the washer after a cycle with dry areas still on them. LG should be listening to the consumer because by word of mouth they will lose a lot of sales I will never buy another LG product again

We purchased a Tromm LG Steam Washer and Dryer set about 2 years ago, from Home Depot. I paid something like $2,500 for the set. The armpit area of most of my shirts became permanently smelly. I have a desk-job, and do not suffer from a sweat problem. In fact, my clothes smell mostly fine when I remove them each day. I bathe each morning so there shouldn't be an issue with smelly clothes from the start, and I've never had an issue of washing my clothes before.

Be it the reduced water or improper rinse cycle, or whatever, my shirts always come out stinky, and no matter how many times we wash them, the armpit area is unbearable. I've thrown out nearly 50 "good quality" shirts since purchasing these machines. It's costly and annoying. I wish I had never purchased these machines to begin with. I have unclean clothing and I have to purchase new shirts.

I purchased an LG front loader washer in April 2010. The first washer delivered had a hole in the water hose, so water was everywhere. The delivery man came back within 30 minutes and picked it up. Three days later, they delivered it again, but now, water is leaking out the front of the door. It was a mini river in my laundry room. The delivery man came back to pick it up again but 2 days later.

Now Best Buy sent a brand-new one. I've washed clothes, and they were coming out stinky. I understand going in stinky with 2 football players in the house, but coming out stinky, I would never have guessed that. They also came out with this black permanent stain on them. No matter what I tried to get the stains out, it's not coming out. And I checked all the pockets before washing. My guess is something is in the washer. I looked and can't find a thing. I washed the rubber ring round the door to no avail; it's still ruining my clothes.

Then I called LG customer service with no help, of course. I can talk to my 2-year-old daughter and get a better understanding from her than their customer service. This has damaged a lot of clothing. I will never buy another front loader washer ever in my life again. My GE washer was 13 years old and did a hell of a lot better than this so-called high-def **. But trying to keep up with the Joneses has caused me nothing but trouble.

The washing machine smells of mold. I've done everything as instructed. Water is retained in the gasket and causes mold. Very poor design. We are waiting to see if LG will replace the gasket for free. All my towels smell! I've just ordered a product online that guarantees to take out the mold. Too much maintenance. My fiends who have other brands of front loading washers do not have this problem.

The LG front loading washer (WM1814CW) we purchased and installed new January 2006 developed a problem last week. I had the recommended service company come out to check the machine. As it turns out the wash drum broke loose and would cost around $600.00 to repair. This really ticked me off given that the unit was just over 4 years old. Goes to show that although LG may make good TV displays, their washers aren't worth crap! I asked the service technician for a recommendation. He said stay away from LG and go with Whirlpool. I purchased a new Whirlpool today which is scheduled to be installed tomorrow. At that time they will also take the LG crappy bucket of bolts out of here! I won't buy LG anything in the future and will certainly let people know how sorry a product our LG washer turned out to be!

LG TROMM, the machine started smelling foul in less than a few months. We figured it out when we had a baby and stopped using fabric softeners, her cloth smelled terrible. I have cleaned filter, rubber gasket, hoses, detergent trays etc. This is ridiculous for LG not to giving us full refund for the machines. I have been dealing with this for 3 years. Is there some way we can get a class action suit going here.

On May 30, 2010 our LG Tromm washer began smoking and smelling of burning plastic. I immediately turned it off. I had an LG repairman come out and tell me something must have gotten stuck in the seal. He would order a new one but I could keep using the machine. Wrong!! It is still smoking and now beginning to vibrate all over the place. We bought this set at Home Depot with the extended warranty. After 5 attempts to fix the problem and two months of laundromat fees, it's still not fixed! Home Depot however did give us credit towards a new machine. I will never ever buy an LG product again. They did also try to blame the whole "too much detergent" thing on me too!

Our story is the fried control board. We owned our set (LG frontloader washing machine) two years and the main control board fried. Wrong part was sent and three weeks later, we had a new motor (magnet) and new board. LG was gracious enough to pay the parts, and I paid the labor. Two years later almost to the exact date (just three weeks ago), the control board was fried again.

I called LG and after much complaining, they agreed to cover the parts, and I covered the labor. Wrong board was sent again and three weeks later, we have a new motor and control board. Age of unit is four years. I asked CS of LG if they would offer us an extended warranty based on the history but they refused.

I have also had Sears etc. brands that ran for many years without an issue at a cost of 1/3 of this unit. I have spent $2500.00 on a top of the line, high-tech, high-efficiency set of boat anchors. We also bought ours at Home Depot. We also were told LG was top of the line. What a load of total crap. I am far from done with this matter. I will start with Home Depot and work my way to the attorney general.

We need to ban together and get this addressed at the highest level consumer protection is available. There should be lemon laws on appliances just as there are for cars.

I also purchased the LG tromm washer and dryer. This is the single worst appliance purchase of my life. The washing machine is horrible and my friends have told me that my house and children smell like mold and mildew. I have been limping through the last two years, draining the machine three times a week and using the rinse cycle with borax and expensive washing machine cleaning supplies. And I can only use the speed cycle because I have been getting an error report on every other cycle.

We had a power outage a few nights ago and now, I can't even use the speed cycle at this point. I have been told to call a service technician again after using several of them over the years. I am finally going to bite the bullet and get a new machine rather than put another penny into this horrific machine. You know it is time to move on when you discuss your washing machine at dinner parties.

I've owned an LG Tron washer and dryer for 2 years. I use only products for HE washers but I have had numerous problems with the washer. After visiting this site I now realize I'm not the only one! When I first got this machine, water leaked out underneath on several occasions. I can't imagine why. Then I noticed dark gray/black spots on some clothing. I took a look at the trap and it was filled with black, oily smelling liquid. After emptying it I had no other problems with the black spots on my clothing. Then an unpleasant odor developed inside the washer which caused my clothing to smell unclean. It didn't smell like mold or mildew but more like dirty, stale smelling dampness.

I clean the seal thoroughly and regularly, but it doesn't help with the odor. I now have to keep the door open after using and I use Fabreze Odor Eliminator on my clothing to make them smell better. It really helps a lot. It's all very disappointing as this machine cost me a bundle. As if this wasn't enough, my laundry is not getting clean. I have to pre treat everything and put bleach directly on every single spot on any white clothing. Also, I must run the machine at the longest cycle to get the clothes cleaner, even though my clothing is not heavily soiled to begin with. Often I have to run it through another rinse cycle. Especially towels, which often come out soapy/stiff and dingy.

Half the time the bleach will not dispense. It's unpredictable so I had to quit using the dispenser because if I don't notice the bleach remains in the dispenser it could dispense on a load of colored clothing and ruin everything! I now have to put the bleach in with the detergent. The worst of all is that my cotton clothing is getting peeled! I believe this is caused from the clothing rubbing together without much water. I can't afford to buy another washer right now but if I ever do, it will be a good old top loader.

Since new in 2004, our LG front load washer has always left the clothes smelling of mildew, vibrated and made a lot of noise in the spin cycle. Technicians were no help. Shortly after the 5 year warranty expired, the machine shook itself to pieces. The spider, the large heavy metal casting which attaches the drum to the motor broke apart due to extreme corrosion and the loose drum destroyed the outer tub. It was pretty much a total loss. Best Buy says "sorry about your bad luck". LG doesn't respond to emails or phone calls. I have a very low opinion of LG products now and will never buy another.

We purchased an LG Washer & Dryer combo from Best Buy in Fort Collins, Co in May 2004. My husband put a load of laundry in and left the house. Our 13-year old son called my husband to say that the laundry room smelt of burning and there was a thick haze of smoke. No smoke alarms were set off. My husband rushed home and said that the cycle was still going but there was no water in the machine. There was a heavy haze and severe smell of ‘burnt rubber’ that he had to unplug the machine to make it stop.

I called LG customer service and they said that I would have to call one of their certified appliance repair persons. I kept stressing to the customer service representative how concerned I was about a potential fire hazard. I work for a fire department and what if no one had been home. He was not concerned at all and said that until the repair person made a diagnosis there was nothing further he could do.

The front-loader clothes washer has been producing mold for some time, and it makes us sick. We've tried the company recommendations to reduce the mold, but the mold persists. I've tried wiping away some of the black mold, but more mold accumulates. My husband and I are in our 60s and we're both affected by the mold. Since I do the laundry and come into direct contact with the mold, I'm most affected by the mold: shortness of breath, coughing, throat and eye irritation.

The mold spores seem to rush out at you when the washer door is opened, even though we leave the washer door open for hours after washings to allow time for the inside to dry out. Each time I open the washer door, I get hit in the face with the heat, and smell of mold spores, that take my breath way. My throat is incessantly irritated, my sinus passages hurt, I have shortness of breath, my eyes are irritated, my nose runs constantly, and I feel generally ill.

I have a new grandchild, and I feel strongly about her not getting sick from the mold. This product needs to be recalled, and replaced with a reliable and effective product!

I am adding my complaint along with many others about the LG stacking washer and dryer. I have had mine less than 1 year. I have to keep the door of the washer open at all times to avoid mold. The cups where you put detergent and bleach and softener do not empty properly. A small amount of bleach remains after the load is finished. The next load which happened to be jeans had bleach-streaks on them because of the left over bleach. The dryer has taken as much as 3 hours to dry 5 pair of jeans.

I have had technician out and he replaced the valve on the washer and said that would fix the cup problem. It did not fix it. It was worse afterwards. He replaced the thermostat on the dryer. That did not help much. I purchased these machines because they were supposed to take less time to dry. Not so, it takes forever! The sensors do not work. The dryer is supposed to automatically sense when the clothes are dry. It does not work at all. The technician told me that all the machines are like this. Can't LG do something about this? Despite several calls into LG, they will not do anything about it. I keep asking them to tell me what else I could possibly replace that would stop this problem. They have no response. I have asked them to replace the washer several times but they refused stating that it is now out of warranty. Our LG washer would not spin or empty. The hall sensor was determined to be bad. The part was covered under the warranty but not the labor cost. The replacement part was under $40.00 dollars, with an estimate for service call and labor around $300.00 dollars.

After reviewing some online info I found the same new replacement part for $18.00 and it took me 1/2 hour to do with two metric sockets and one Phillips screw driver.

Many extra wash cycles, detergent and fabric softener, plus the time to try and get a load of laundry done were a waste of time, money and water. The LG tech rep's way of fixing it was to unplug it and plug it back in to reset the system. LG has very poor service and I would not recommend their products.

My 4 yr old $1100 LG Tromm, WM2277HW washer has been out of commission now for 4 weeks with a "DE" error. The machine will wash, but not drain. Repairmen are rare. Response time slow, and week-long waits between visits. The repairman initially diagnosed a failed drain motor. Part was ordered, installed a week later, and the machine promptly failed after 3 loads. Reported immediately.

10 days later, he suction pumped some sand and dirt, no improvement. For his next visit, if I choose to hang on, he thinks he'll take off the front, and check something more thoroughly in the belly of the machine. I am $230 into this repair, & the Mom & Pop store is waiting my decision on how to proceed. I sense at this point I can be just as effective attempting to fix it myself with online research/support. We do have hard well water. I did not overload the machine. I used HE soap sparingly. I leave the door open after each use. The soap drawer drains water down the front when opened. I purchased an LG washer and dryer from home depot about 2008, and have had no clean clothes especially the whites. I have contacted Home Depot first, then LG and followed their instructions and called a service man. He was about 20 years old and knew not much about the washer. He replaced some parts and said it should clean better. Well, it did not. Called LG again after washing a few months more and then my husband said boy, my white tee shirts are getting dingy. That's was the last straw.

Called another service company and they could not find a problem even when I showed the the corrosion in the hinges from something leaking on the hinges. I also showed him the brown wash cloth I put through the washer with the bleach and white clothes and it remained brown with no bleach spots.I was convinced the bleach does not reach the whites. By the way, I use Clorox HE bleach and Tide HE soap and always washed the whites once with hot water and soap and then again with bleach and soap.

I then called LG for the third time and basically got nowhere. So again, I called another service man from county wide and he said there was nothing wrong with the machine even though I showed him the white towels that did not even close to getting clean. By the way, when I go to Florida for the winter, I use a coin operated machine and by the time a month has passed, my clothes come whiter than when I use my $2800 outfit home. Today I went to look for another washer and dryer because I can no longer use mine because I don't trust the cleanliness of my whites or colored. I then found out about the LG class action law suit. I hope I can join in as I have from the beginning hated what these machines stand for. The dryer takes too long to dry. Sometimes I have to dry twice. Where's the savings? There is so much more I could say negative about this expensive purchase we made, but I have not got the time or nerves to do so. Please let me know if I can become a part of this issue. Thank you.

My LG Washer under warranty quit working on the weekend of the 12-13th of June. I called the 800 number on Monday 14th and I was told it would be at least a week before they could get a service guy here. A week later, LG service guy comes out and says your filter is dirty, cleans filter runs bleach through washer and says it’s fixed. I put in a small load, came down 1 1/2 hrs later and the washer stopped at the 9 minute mark, the exact place it was the 1st time I called the repair service. I had talked to the LG repairman about the possibility of the problem being a bad drain pump.

Well, I called the warranty department back and explained the problem. I said that I have a bad pump and I know the drive repairman that was just here has one on his truck as we had a discussion about this. Can you please get this guy back here? This person insisted that they must call another repairman. Well, the repairman from expert Appliance Repair was out the next day. Guess what, he said, “You need a new Drain Pump. We will order it. It will take 3 to 4 days.” Well, this was 6/22/10, I called them on Friday, 6/25. I did my part. I asked if it come in yet. He replied, “No sir, it has not.”

So I call LG. I talk to call center and ask for a supervisor whose name is Stan. Stan tells me a mistake has been made and sees no order for my part. He assured me that my part will be air mailed in overnight, so I can have my washer working by Monday or Tuesday. I called Expert Appliance Monday part has not arrived. I called Stan. Stan does not know why part has not arrived. Stan will call back Expert Appliance and work on tracking number. I called Expert Appliance today, Tuesday the 29th. Expert Appliance has no good news for me. Unfortunately, they have not heard from Stan and will come out as soon as my part arrives.

Since my washer has been down, we have made 4 trips to the Laundry Mat. Each trip has cost us over 20 dollars. Stan said they will reimburse $15.00 a week for our problems. LG better take a good look at what washers and dryers cost at these places for families of 4. Anyway, I looked on the internet and I could have had this part delivered in 2 days regular freight for 45 bucks plus $7.95 shipping. Now, I’m going into the third week and do not know if I will ever get this thing fixed.

I would not recommend anybody buying a LG washer. This was bought at Home Depot. I myself have a physical disability, so I cannot go to the Laundry Mat to do our clothes. My wife works 5 to 6 days a week and doesn’t have time to run to a Laundry Mat after work. We have spent over 100 dollars as of today, when our next load has to be taken outside the house. And everybody has better things to do with their time than to deal with call centers who don’t [care] about who calls. LG has not heard the last of this. I still do not know if my washer will be fixed.

Well, the clothes did not get cleaned and I had cut back on how full I fill the machine. Thus, having to do more loads of laundry with fewer clothes. I then had problems with a smell. I did purchase those tablet but felt that was not being efficient since I had to run the washer with no clothes and had to buy tablets which is an added expense.

Whenever I tried to call, either the phone was off or it was never picked up. I found contact of call center from web and called them and somehow, after 10 days, reached the concerned person who said the product is not in stock and so select a different one.

I selected new one, which was to be shipped in a day or two. But again there was a break. When I contacted the person he said the new product has a dent (as if they had only one). He promised to send a new one in two days' time but again no call for five days. When I called (17th day) the person said I will call back in morning. There was no call and when I called he doesn't pick up the phone.

I am not able to concentrate on my work. I had to waste two days of my office in this period. Further I have to go out to get my clothes washed.

I have owned a LG front load washer and dryer since 2006. It has been a very poor purchase for us. Over $2,500, and we have had nonstop problems ever since. The front rusted out, the soap seeps everywhere, clothes smell horrible, ripped up my bedding and always stop for uneven load. It had so many service calls they replaced it and all the same problems continue with the new one. I have fought with Best Buy and LG that this design is defective, but LG won't budge. This will be my last LG purchase of any kind. Fool me once!

I have had this LG washing machine for approximate 4 years. I have had nothing but problems with the odor from this machine. I have no mold or mildew on the seal around the door. I clean the machine all the time I put bleach through a cycle to clean the drum. I use Afresh once a month as recommended. I wipe down the seal after each wash and empty the drain once a week yet it continues to smell.

I ask the extended warranty company to take the machine apart to see if there is something that is deep within the machine and they refuse to do it. I pay for this warranty and they do nothing to help with the situation. The LG Tromm is not a cheap machine and the company should do something to resolve this ongoing issue. I spoke to Scott a supervisor from Head office in Mississauga Ontario about this issue. He just kept saying their scripted lines of how it must be you that is doing something wrong because there are no problems with the machine itself. Yet I explained all the things that I'm doing to keep the machine clean. The water stinks when I don't use the machine for a few days then it smells like rotten eggs. Scott then tried to tell me it is my detergent that I'm using which is Ecos HE. I feel that it’s never the manufactures problem it’s the customer’s problem.

I know that I had Sears’s products for many years with none of these issues. All so the warranty service from sears is much better than from the Brick. I am very disappointed with the LG washer and will never purchase another LG product period, as the lack of service you get when you have an issue with their products.

I purchased the top of the line LG washer and dryer in 2009. I have tried using the manual to get to the bottom of the problem. My washer smells both of mold and has a burning smell. I do not use them if I am not home for fear that something will catch on fire. I use less than 1/8 of my HE detergent so overuse has never been a problem. I do not use dryer sheets and I rarely use the dryer. I prefer my clothes line.

I put baking soda in my wash and use vinegar instead of bleach. Both these items along with cleaning the seal out should control the smell but it does not. I also leave the door open with a bungee cord since I can't have it complete open due to location and that just makes my laundry room smell. So this is not a set I would ever recommend. I have had much better with other models.

LG washer dryers combos have a smell issue that the manufacturer is not properly addressing. I have had my LG for about three months and the machine smells like a combination of burnt rubber and mold. The smell fills my house when the machine is in operation and leaves my clothes with a bad odor. When I contacted LG, they told me to run a load with just bleach and clean around the inside of the door gasket.

I've done this several times and the machine still smells. I have read over 50 complaints online about the LG washer dryer combos smelling bad. I contacted LG again and they recommended that I call the online retailer where I purchased the machine. The retailer told me that LG was discontinuing their washer dryer combo and that even if they had one in stock, they had stopped shipping them because of the smell issue.

I purchased a LG front loading machine from Best Buy in April of 09 and have had nothing but problems when the salesman I purchased it from swore to me that I was purchasing the best front loading machine on the market. Less than a year after purchasing I had to have the entire drum inside replaced. I got bounced around with customer service from LG and Best Buy and I wouldn't call it "customer service". Finally, after several weeks of trying to get my machine repaired I am still dissatisfied. I learned that there is only 1 service center near me that had repairmen that worked on LG machines. I had to contact this repair center several times because they would not return my calls due to waiting on LG to contact them to let them know if they would repair the machine or replace it. My whole point of purchasing this machine was for efficiency and that I would save a lot of time doing laundry by being able to wash larger loads of clothes, but to my disappointment it is just another chore added to my list because the machine requires weekly maintenance.

The smell of mildew in my machine is horrific. Not only do we all smell sour from washing our clothes in this machine, but we get to walk into our home and smell the aroma of mold and mildew coming from this machine. I am constantly pulling lint, dirt, and dog hair from around the rubber gasket to keep water from sitting on the bottom and not being able to drain through the holes that the water is "supposed" to be able to drain. I have tried everything to get rid of the smell, but nothing seems to work. The compartment where I pour the "he" laundry detergent and "he" softener stays wet and then starts to mildew. Again, another weekly maintenance. I have to leave the compartment and the door to the machine open all the time to dry out, but the problem still seems to persist. I would love to be able to go drop it off in the showroom where I purchased it from, because they obviously back the product up, and let them deal with the smell, but unfortunately I paid a lot of money for this machine so now I am stuck. So much for economical and efficient!

My LG front load washer and dryer were purchased May 25, 2005. The washer gives us the code LE at least twice per month. When I call LG they give me different ways to correct the problem. One is to unplug the washer for 30 minutes, then hold the on button for 5 seconds before pushing the no spin code and let the machine pump out the water, then hit the rinse and spin cycle. Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. Once I get it working again, then it will work for a couple of weeks. This week the washing machine is still unplugged as it does not want to work. It fills with water and then gives me the LE code. The appliance company that repairs LG in my area is a small family owned business that does not give service. The daughters man the phones and they are so rude. I refuse to call them again. I will purchase a top load washer from someone else before I will have their "LG tech" come back into my home.

The dryer was running 2-3 hours to dry a normal load. I finally pulled the dryer out and was shocked to see the tube was packed with wet lint. I have never had a dryer do this. We clean the vent after every dry cycle. Now the dryer sounds like metal is rubbing against metal when you turn it on. As for the sour smell, the washer and dryer both have the bad smell. I am returning to front load washer. I have only owned 2 other W/D sets and they worked well for many, many years. I would still have them if I had not moved. I overpaid for the LG front load appliances. I also purchased an LG dishwasher. I had to have the motor replaced before the warranty ran out but LG does not pay for labor, so I paid $160.00 for an $80.00 part. Now the dishwasher is drying so hot that it is melting the rubber seal around the door. LG does not seem to care when I call and ask for help with these problems. I refuse to ever purchase another LG product.

The color delivered were graphite washer/dryer, and white pedestals. We refused the delivery. We verified with Home Depot that part numbers were correct. On 5/27, I tried to straighten out with Home Depot. He's on hold with LG for 45 minutes. The delivery people only indicated that washer/dryer were refused so they think we have the pedestals. Even at risk of losing this sale and talking to a supervisor, they were not accommodating in the least.

He agreed to extend warranty and provide a cleaning and new gasket. Unfortunately, nothing happened after that. I emailed him over 10 times begging for a response. Nothing. I called LG and got the "script" answers. Finally, I got the Executive Customer Service Dept again and raised hell with them. The authorized the cleaning and gasket change again. It took over 3 weeks to get that processed. Then comes ENG Appliance Service. They received an authorization for LG for a cleaning and necessary parts.

When the tech arrived, he had no idea what he was suppose to do. He said with his years of experience, the smell and mold was due to the detergent (I use Tide LG) he also told me to leave the door closed after use. At that point, I was ready to pull my hair out. I called LG again and they said tech was there to clean machine in any fashion he saw fit. Tech said he need to call LG tech line for guidance. He came back 2 weeks later with a new gasket that he installed. When I asked about the cleaning, he said that he was told by LG tech and customer service that he was not authorized to perform cleaning since the stink and mold was due to my water quality and detergent! I showed him on the LG authorization that he was approved to perform cleaning. He refused! I had to call LG again and they will send out another company to perform cleaning. If I do not do this, the pump runs and runs, trying to pump water that is not there! After the wash, I have to do another rinse and spin to remove the soap that does not come out in the normal rinse cycle. I have never had such an inefficient washer in my life! The website that the owner's manual refers one to for repairs is not in English. I was not given a case number. I was given the name of a service provider who told me that they don’t' service washer/dryers. I was told that LG couldn't provide additional names in neighboring cities unless I knew the neighboring cities’ zip code (I live in Oakland, CA, adjacent to Berkeley and San Francisco, but why would I know their zip codes?). I was told today by Gabby, a supervisor, that you all could not help me further because I don't have a home phone, or any other phone number to provide.

This can't be how you all service customers who provide your products given the size of the organization and how long it has been in existence. This is appalling. I'd like one of two things to happen. Either send me an accurate list of service providers who are in reasonable proximity to 94611 and actually service washer/dryers or send me another unit. They said that I used too much soap, 2 tablespoons being the allowable limit and otherwise the washer would leak. The descriptions of fault were washing machine is "sensitive" but the symptoms are "normal." Because I am pretty sure it will be cheaper to buy a new washer that I do not have to do a monthly service on to maintain it! LG also went and found a product called "Whirlout", which is not made by them to help get the mold smell out.

Really? LG goes and finds a product and tells you, you can buy it at any hardware store yet they don't believe they have a problem, Why would anyone go find a product and recommend it if they do not have a problem? I will never spend another dime on any of their products! They are not helpful! P.S., I have had my dryer fixed 3 times in 3 years. For the last 20 years, I have had front loader washers and I had never had to let the door open to avoid the bad smell. I never had the need to take a course to learn how to operate a washer what it seems I need to do now. My clothes come out dirty after almost two hours in the washer. I have tried different soaps, less or more quantity of soap. I have bought the new soaps that they sell now to keep the drum clean. I have Clorox to clean the drum, after doing my laundry.

I have called LG several times and I have gotten the same answers that I have read here. I called the technician because I also bought the extended warranty and the technician even told me that for the issue that I called him, he should have charged me because there was nothing wrong with my washer. He even told me that my washer is clean, so the bad smell was not caused due to lack of cleaning. I have been really desperate because I spent an amount of money that I was hoping was going to last me for at least 10 to 15 years. After looking for alternatives on people that is having the same problem (and I have to say that there are many people with the same problem and LG doesn't want to address it), somebody wrote that the problem was caused due to the small amount of water that this washer use to wash.

This person recommended to add 1 gallon of water during the washing cycle and to always use the extra rinse cycle. After three years using my washer for the first time, two weeks ago, I feel that my clothes is coming out of the washer clean. You don't buy new appliances to go through all of this problem. What is more sad is that they know about this problem and they don't give the support to their customers that they are supposed to give. We trust their products and we should get our trust back. Really disappointing.

I purchased an LG front loading washer less than 4 & 1/2 years ago. I have had several problems with it over the years. The most recent was that two of the electronic components in the machine failed. One was caused by the reset LG customer service instructed me to do. LG has informed me that the parts are out of warranty and they refuse to help me. The cost of the repair is over $350.00 for parts alone. LG refused to help or stand by their product. I will have to bare full brunt of the repair.

After having a failure with my LG front loader washing machine, I called LG. They only have one service company that would service this machine in/around the Reno area. After calling Protek Industries, I was told by those folks that LG does not pay their bills in a timely fashion so they do not service LG parts. Well Protek Industries were nice enough to send a service tech out and he determined that the thermostat was bad but he wasn't sure if his boss Protek would order the part due to the past history of LG accounting not paying them in the past. Well they ordered the part anyway (great customer service).

I just called LG customer service and was told that they just contacted Protek and that they were waiting for the part! How stupid is that? I knew that Protek was waiting for the part. I want to know if and when the part was shipped from LG! Well the customer service person put me on hold again while he contacted his parts people and lo and behold, they (LG) hadn't sent the part because their accounting department was waiting for Protek to call them. So there was a bold faced lie about the part from customer service. I then called Protek back and they had no idea that LG was waiting for a phone call from them, but she (Robin) from Protek said that she would call them(LG accounting) and get back to me.

This is blatantly just plain nonsense from LG. I have a family of 6 that has to go to the Laundromat to do our laundry because of LG's poor customer care.

I purchased a front loading LG Tromm Steam Washer and matching dryer from Home Depot about 3 years ago. I had a Sears Kenmore washer/dryer from 1980, yes, 1980, wedding presents, that still performed. It had been repaired a few times, but nothing so major it warranted a new machine. The matching drying took awhile to dry the clothes, but it still worked only having a few thermostats replaced over the years. The last time it was repaired, the repairman said, "Don't ever get rid of these--" (Yeah, he just wants job security, I thought) because the new washers and dryers are junk.”

But, my husband thought it was time to upgrade in light of all the new technological advancements. Unfortunately, the mold/mildew smell has never completely gone away, and the smell that has diminished is only due to continually leaving the washer door completely opened when not in use and the persistent maintenance on my part; otherwise, I would be paying for a "certified LG technician" to "maintain" the machine, even with my extended warranty. I have had a certified LG technician out for the smell one time; "the professional" answer: wipe down the gasket and glass door and leave the door open. The tech was also here to repair the dryer, which was taking anywhere from two - three hours to dry one normal household load of clothes: a couple of towels, underwear, socks, t-shirts, etc.

It worked for a while but seems again to taking an extended period of time to dry the clothes. I can live with the dryer problem, but the washer is a whole different story. I cannot stand the smell of mildew/mold on what should be "clean" clothes. When toweling off after a shower/bath, the moisture seems to reactivate the mildew/mold smell, so now, not only does the towel reek, I have transferred the smell to my "clean" body. Yuck! Lesson learned: try to snag a towel that doesn't smell bad before anyone else--what a way to live! Clearly, LG Tromm has a design issue with the washer. However, rather than acknowledge the issue, like Toyota finally did, and replace the gaskets with a better design, they have buried their heads in the piles of money they have received due to the thousands of products sold.

If you want to speak to a customer service representative supervisor, you must call Monday to Friday, 8-5, which doesn't mean you will actually get one of them on the phone, but that's their standard work hours. I guess all those unsupervised customer service reps just run rampant at night and on the weekends. Imagine not having one boss there with all of those workers--it must be utter chaos! Now, when your only option is an underling, the company has instructed the customer service representative to basically read from a script: "Empty the drain line, remove and clean the filter, using a bleach and water solution, and another bucket of only water and a towel, wipe down the gasket but don't use straight bleach because you will damage the gasket. Pull the gasket toward you to get to the scum and mold. Use a brush. Use a large paint brush, the kind you use to paint your house.”

Of course the suggestions go on and on. My response is, "You still don't know the part I'm trying to clean!". The gray rubber gasket is one large piece, but it visually appears to be two - three pieces. Cleaning the section farthest from the steel tub is no problem. You put your thumb on the indentation and pull toward you, wipe, solution, rinse, and dry--good so far. Moving in toward the tub, the next section appears to be an inch raised ridge, this is where you meet your nemesis. The next section, at first glance, looks like three rectangular boxes were cut out, but when you pull it toward you; you find that it is actually a cut out, leaving two tabs in the middle with the remainder of the gasket continuing on both sides.

So, you try to pull up the tabs to get all the gunk you've discovered. But, the miniscule amount you can lift the tabs only allows you to get a quick peek at the washer tub and the opening where the tub sits. Under the tabs in my case, is a mixture of dirt, lint, mildew, dog hair, soap scum, and mold. Let me tell you, that is not pleasant smell! So, how to get that "environmentally hazardous stuff" out of there? First, I tried a washcloth--nope; next, I tried a narrow kitchen sponge--nope; next, I tried a narrow, less dense children's paint sponge with a handle--nope; next, I tried a toothbrush—nope.

When I told the customer service rep that I didn't think that he understood the location I was trying to clean, he assured me that he did and followed with, "I'm looking at three visual diagrams of the problem and the suggested solution." Okay, great! I'm thinking, and then I asked, "Would you email those three visuals to me, so I can see exactly what you are talking about and make sure that this is the same location I'm asking about. " Again, he read from the script, "No, I can't send you these; it goes against company policy; we are not allowed to let you see these visuals."

And ending with, "If you can't get to the location, you will need to schedule a customer service technician to come out and maintain the machine. You will have to pay for this service because it is not provided for in your warranty.” My response: "No, I won't be paying someone to perform maintenance on your product, which clearly has a bad design that's LG's problem. Why can't you email me a copy of the visuals? Is it a secret or something? I'm the consumer that bought the product--.I'm the one that has the problem with the product, so why can't I have the visual of the product with the suggestions for me to remedy my situation?".

His response--the same script. So, if LG wants consumers to continue to purchase their products, and more importantly wants to produce the best product, why won't they listen to all of the consumer complaints, redesign the gasket, have a recall on them, repair the problem, and show some goodwill to the consumers? Heck, they might even be able to sell more products if they can earn the consumers trust again. During these lean economic times, consumers cannot afford to purchase their "top-of-the-line products" and then discover the products are poorly designed and do not perform as they are advertized/represented. This really smacks of a class action suit if you ask me. I'm stuck with an expensive washer that leaves my clothes and myself reeking of mildew.

I purchased an LG Washer and Dryer at PC Richard on 10/05/03. I have been paying for extended service contracts through PC Richard since I purchased the set. Right from the beginning, the washer had molds around the rubber in the front of the machine. It has been replaced at my expense because it was not covered under the extended service contract. Now, I have to clean it with Clorox in order to alleviate some of the mold smell but the black is still there. The dryer has been a problem from day one. The circuit board had been replaced a number of times because it wasn't drying properly and the timed drying was off. It was drying delicates over 60 minutes when it should have been drying at 30-32. All the other settings were off also.

After a number of service calls and circuit board replacements, the machine was replaced because it could not be fixed. I was given another LG and according to the serviceman, the issues were supposedly addressed by LG. The same problems happened since day one. Again, the circuit board was replaced a number of times. Thankfully, I had my extended warranty. Now, I've been told LG is not offering the warranty through PC Richard (that's what PC Richard tells me).

My last service call on the extended warranty was on 3/1/2010 and it was for, once again, the circuit board. It was replaced and the service guy said the old one was very hot when he removed it. Thankfully, the part has a warranty of 90 days and today, 3/25/2010, while using the dryer it started to smell like something was burning. I'm afraid that this machine is going to catch fire. The service guy will come and replace the circuit board again for the last time and I'll be right back where I was before but now without a service contract. And I'll have to pay out of pocket for a situation that will never be resolved because LG has not addressed the problem. It's time for a recall of these dryers!

In March 2009, I purchased a LG front loader washer and dryer from H.H. Gregg with the assurances from the salesman that they were the best on the market. This was a $2,000 purchase that I had to think long and hard about. After delivery, the dryer whistled when drying. The repairmen looked at it, started it and listened to the whistle. The dryer was replaced. Still, even though the whistle is gone, the dryer doesn't dry completely and the technician told me we would normally have to run the drying cycle at least twice to completely dry the clothes.

The washing machine is another story. It doesn't clean as claimed, leaves dirt and lint on top of the door glass after washing, will not rinse the small amount of HE soap we use out of our clothes and takes a tremendously long time to wash the same clothes our 15 year old Whirlpool did better and quicker. (We actually use the recommended amount of HE soap when washing.) The lint trap stays soapy and no amount of rinsing seems to be able to take care of this.

During the two or three service calls that were made on the washing machine, all the repairman did was clean up against the dryer, brag about how good he was and how the other appliance manufacturers were begging him to come back to service their appliances. With his knee pads on and carrying a tool pouch, he looked as though he was going to work. The only tool he used was a flashlight to look inside the washing drum and told me that by using liquid detergents, I had gummed up the insides so it wouldn't clean.

He stated that I needed to use powder detergents and stop using liquid softeners, switching to dryer sheets instead. He also stated that my clothes were to dirty for the LG washer and I needed to go to Lowe's and purchase a $50 trade-in to wash my work clothes. His statement that my LG wasn't able to clean my clothes is laughable and repugnant. During the last service call, he was more interested in the new refrigerator I was having installed, chatting with the installers and trying to hire them as repairmen working for him.

I have contacted LG six times in the past week trying to get one final attempt at service before the warranty runs out. Speaking with customer service representatives, I have been given the names of three or four other repairmen who were on their list of authorized servicers, but in fact none were. The only one who is authorized is the blowhard braggart who has been here previously and has not turned the first nut or screw to try to rectify the problem. Now a supervisor who claims to be the highest I can contact says that I can get service, only it has to be the repairman who doesn't repair.

LG now states that I am refusing service when in fact I am begging for service, just not the bozo who simply brags about how good he is. Evidently, this repairman has a monopoly on servicing LG appliances in my area and LG refuses to have someone else from another area come to look at my washing machine.

I stated that if LG is not able to provide warranty service then I want a refund which they promptly refused. Their answer was that I would have to go to H.H. Gregg for a refund. Or, if H.H. Gregg could provide a repairman, then LG would have to authorize him for warranty service. All I am asking for is service. If service can't or won't be provided, then I want a refund so I can purchase another brand that I can actually have serviced when required.

I have been searching all morning for info on an issue I have been having with an LG washing machine. Although I have not found any info on exactly what I am looking for, I did see plenty of basic complaints about LG laundry products. Now, let me start by saying that I am not advocating for LG, but there are defect issues listed that are caused by consumers. For instance, the horrid smell of mildew! Did you know that an overuse of detergent, fabric softener, etc. will cause build up inside the machine? A lot of the time, not even clean cycles and hot water, bleach, etc. will not fix the problem.

So here is the solution...stop using so much. The mixture of the different scents that we all love makes for a stinky cocktail after sitting in your machine and not dissolving. HE machines are so because of the tiny consumption of energy and especially water. Smaller amounts of water require smaller amounts of detergent. The 1 line on your detergent's cap is plenty to accomplish your fullest heaviest load. Try it.

So, once we have developed proper soap, etc. usage, then we can start to have effectiveness in clean cycles, etc. And people, leave that washer door cracked when not in use. You do realize that it is a water-tight seal with the door closed. And all washers hold water in the pumps, so leave the door open and let it dry out or at least start to until next load.

Another is the "out of balance" issue. I have encountered quite a few circumstances when it comes to this. Yes, being off-grade will have a big impact on stability. So reinforce your washer by placing at least 3/4-inch plywood under both washer and dryer(if side-by-side) and screw it down.

Also, loads of mixed items, or too much and not enough will cause vibration. Front-load washers centrifuge (or axis drum rotates on) is vertical; meaning, when your machine is in full spin, it is dispersing the weight up and down and not side to side like on your traditional top-load washer. This is going to cause vibrations, period. The main thing is to make sure that your machine is leveled and all lock nuts are locked on your leveling legs. Leveled does not mean 100% flat on all corners. I like to have a slight lean backwards on my washers to keep the weight of the clothes from shifting to the front during wash and spin.

Now for dryers. Long dry times? Check your vent outside. The same amount of air blowing out the back of the dryer should be outside. If not, then there are some type of restrictions in your vent (water, lint, or maybe just a kinked vent tubing behind the machine).

Clothes still damp after a cycle complete on auto or sensing cycles? Clean your sensing bars. These bars are on the inside right side of the lint trap. Two stainless bars. Over time they develop build up of all your excess detergent (from what I mentioned above), etc. which mainly consists of wax( which repels water). To clean, simply take sand paper or anything abrasive (nail file) and etch those sensing bars up. In most cases, that will correct the problem!

This info I have provided will not only work on your LG laundry products but on all front-load washer and dryers.

I did and they only had one service company in my area. I was familiar with them and knew it would be a hassle. They never returned my call (this is normal for them) so I ordered the part from a local appliance part store who carries LG parts. The cold water valve was the culprit.

It cost me $78 for the valve and it was fixed and able to be used on Tuesday 03/16/2010. I had clothes to wash you know, it's not like I could wait for 2 weeks to get it fixed and Best Buy wouldn't replace it. We purchased a new LG Front loader washer & dryer set from Home Depot in 9/07. When we ran our first load of clothes through the washer, it started bouncing during the spin cycle. I called my handyman, he also has front loaders. He helped me level the machine again and lock it down. No change to the bouncing. At one point, it walked 2 feet across the floor during a medium spin cycle.

I've had LG service techs out about 5 times. Their first response was that I had put too much detergent (huh?) into the machine. Then they said that I had probably loaded jeans and t-shirts into the machine together and since the jeans are heavier than the t-shirts, well that caused the washer to walk. After I pointed out that it was walking even if I ran one towel through, then they said that it was because my house is built on a crawl space and front loaders are not meant to run over a crawl space (of course, no one at Home Depot has ever heard that one).

The LG service guy suggested that I have my laundry room floor rebuilt and reinforced. It just so happens that I was re-doing the kitchen anyway, so I had the floors reinforced and had a floor jack installed directly under the washer. It still walks around if I use the normal cycle. I have to wash everything on the delicate cycle, or the thrashing is so extreme that I'm afraid it's going to damage the walls or pull out the hose.

I had a GE service guy out to fix my new microwave at the same time I was running a load of clothes. The GE service guy (who was great - love my GE appliances!) told me that front loaders may have issues with crawl spaces, but not anywhere near the amount of vibration that I was experiencing. In his opinion, I had a lemon. Of course, LG blames all issues on my crawl space, so they will not replace the unit.

I will never buy another LG appliance as long as I live.

About 3 years ago, I purchased an LG washer and dryer combo from Home Depot. I had previously owned Whirlpool appliances (1st set lasted 14 years, 2nd set lasted 12 years) and was looking to buy another set of Whirlpool washer/dryer. However, at Home Depot, I was told that Whirlpool was no longer reliable and was making very poor products. I was foolishly persuaded to buy LG products. Big mistake!

When the products were delivered, the washer worked fine. However, from Day 1, the dryer has been terrible. To dry a small load of clothes requires running it through the cycle at least 3 times. If the load is larger, it may take 5 or 6 times. It is ridiculous. My 12-year-old Whirlpool could dry circles around this "state-of-the-art" non-dryer.

In calling LG service, I have never encountered anyone who has actually been trained in customer service. They seem to have a manual to refer to where they blame the customer if their machine does not work. When I have called them about the non-drying issue, they have variously blamed it on the vent (it has been cleaned repeatedly), dryer sheets (haven't been used since this was pointed out as a problem), or on the size of loads. They usually recommend reducing the size of the load. If I reduce my load from 2 bath towels and 2 hand towels to something smaller, I may as well use a hand-held hairdryer to dry my clothes! The service department is of no help whatsoever!

I intend to go on every website that I can find and register my complaints so that other people will not go through what I have been through. I will never buy a LG product again! My dryer is absolute junk and LG does not stand by its products. I also intend to include Home Depot in any complaints since they obviously were hard-selling this product. I can only conclude that they don't care about their customers in the least and helped slime us by promoting LG products against our best interest.

I would certainly join any class action suit against this company. In my opinion, it is the "Toyota" of home appliances in every bad sense. It refuses to acknowledge its culpability in the design and/or manufacture of its obviously defective products. At least Congress is forcing Toyota to do recalls and make repairs. Who is going to help us with LG? Please tell everyone you know what junk LG makes and about its non-existent customer service. Six months ago we bought an LG washing machine and dryer from the local Home Depot. They came and installed it (stacked on top of one another) as promised. We noticed that the machines rocked during the washing machine's spin cycle (the feet on each side come up off of the floor when it does so), but it didn't rock so much that we felt in danger of it actually tipping.

Last night, however, about halfway through the wash cycle we heard a very loud banging and the stacked machines began jumping up and down and rocking violently back and forth. My husband ran to them and held them upright while I shut them both down. In the 3 seconds this was happening, the machines moved six inches away from the wall. We opened the washing machine to find the drum sitting on the bottom of the machine, hanging from the rubber lining.

We live in a small house in Brooklyn so our machines are in what also functions as our dining room. Had we not been home (or even been upstairs) when this occurred, the machines would have tipped over, crushing two pieces of furniture and likely pulling away from their water source which is always turned on, very quickly flooding our home. We are now trying to decide what to do about getting it fixed. If this happened in only six months is it even worth having something that dangerous in our home?

We had also read Consumer Reports before making this purchase, which listed this machine as "recommended" (and does so to this day). Having now found out how many people have also experienced this issue, not only will I never buy LG again - I will never turn to Consumer Reports for advice. Oh, and our washing machine smells like mold too, by the way. We decrease the effects of that problem (which now seems incredibly mild by comparison) by mopping out the rubber lining with a towel after the last wash of the day and never closing the door. I leave my washer door open. I put a container of baking soda inside to absorb moisture. I buy products that you are supposed to cycle through you washer for odors. I've used less soap, more soap, bleach, febreeze, hot water, cold water--nothing helps. I decided to go online to see if there were other complaints. I knew there must be. Surely I couldn't be the only one with the problem. I was really glad to know I'm not alone. They should be liable for this. This has created a great deal of stress and extra time and money trying to get my clothes to smell good, not to mention that they were very expensive and I've got to replace. I just can't stand the smell anymore!

We purchased an LG front end washer and dryer in January 2009 from Home Depot, based on its reputation. We have the exact same problem that everyone else has written about... the mold and the terrible smell. We had a service technician come out and advised us what we could do for the smell. We have tried everything from bleach, less soap, drying out the rubber seal and the drum, cleaning out the trap, leaving the door ajar (we leave it open all night after the last load), the tablets sold to clean the machine etc. Nothing works.

We spent a lot of money on the set. Maintenance on an appliance is necessary, but this is absolutely stupid. We have to clean the machine after each day of laundry if we don't want our clothes to stink. This is becoming extremely expensive to be cleaning the machine on a daily basis along with the wear and tear on our clothes as they need to be rewashed constantly.

This needs to be taken care of. We need some help in dealing with this problem. We are having the constant smell in our home from the washer and the ruining of clothes due to the excessive washing that has to be done to get rid of the smell. We would never buy another front end washer due to this problem.

3 years ago, we purchased the LG frontload washer & dryer and the LG bottom freezer French door refrigerator and have regretted it since. The washer is extremely noisy and shakes violently during the spin cycle. (We had the repairman come out shortly after it was installed only to tell us it was working fine.) There is a strong mildew/mold odor coming from the washer even though I periodically run bleach through the cycle and leave the washer door open when not in use to air it out (recommended by a friend with same issue). Clothes often come out looking and smelling less than fresh.

4 weeks ago (2 months after the warranty expired), the washer would not turn on. The repairman came out the following week only to tell us that the power board was fried and needed to be replaced. He would have to order the part. It took 2 weeks to get part from LG. The repairman came back out and after spending 45 minutes, he was not able get this one to work either (defective). He now has to reorder the part again and tells us this will take another 2 weeks. He tells us that he "always have problems with LG and that they have terrible customer service."

We have given up on the refrigerator. We had the repair service out 4 times in the first year because the freezer constantly went out and the entire contents thawed and then it was leaking water that would frost the entire contents. We often had to chop out the ice that layered the bottom of the freezer. We stopped using the freezer altogether for over a year and then inexplicably the freezer started working about 6 months ago. Still we do not use it much though, because I just don't trust it to be reliable. I will never buy another LG product.

I deeply regret my choice of purchase in an LG washer/dryer set due to this company's extremely poor customer service. We have a six-month old dryer unit that we discovered has a buckled under carriage. I only found it due to the stacked unit vibrating severely during the washer spin cycle. I thought it was a simple broken foot until the repair guy discovered that the entire front under side is caved in. LG informed me that "cosmetic" issues are not their responsibility and that "consumers typically fail to inspect the underside of washers and dryers". Who would think to inspect the bottom of a washer or dryer?

The saga got worse after I tried to seek help from Home Depot where we bought them (Sandy, Utah store). Two days after my service appointment, I was called by Home Depot on conference call with LG to schedule another service "to have the problem taken care of." The LG rep scheduled the appointment from 8 am to noon. I thought as was well with the world and that customer service reigns! That is until the service tech never showed.

I called Home Depot, who again conferenced with LG. This LG customer service rep called the tech and then told me that they had already informed me they weren't going to help. My question, which this woman couldn't answer, is how this fact didn't come up in the conference call the day before when the appointment was scheduled? Why the hell would they have scheduled the appointment in the first place? I took another morning off of work for their guy to never show up and for no one to call me to say they weren't coming.

This customer service rep happened to be "dealer support" and she also spent about three minutes too long telling Home Depot that customer complaints need to go through another department, but she "will go ahead and try to assist you". So, if they are rude and unhelpful to their dealers, why would they be any different to the customer? I am kicking myself for not asking more questions when Home Depot magically called to say they were going to get things taken care of.

These are expensive items and this company's approach is appalling. My Home Depot store is now trying to see if their manager will help us pay for the repair. I am not hopeful. If they won't assist, I am going to try to return the units. These items came into my house severely damaged and I will not bear the burden (about $300) to repair them. After reading several comment boards about the legitimate appliance failures of their product, I now wonder what would happen if something that is supposedly covered under warranty broke. I doubt my experience would change. Customer service should be a key ingredient to any business model, but LG apparently missed the memo on this. I spent $725 on a dryer that has extreme physical damage. I lost two days of work.

I purchased an LG washer 5 years ago and have had major problems with it. After owning it 2.5 years, a sensor had to be replaced costing me $285.25. At that time my repairman said he has repaired many LG washers and that they are in his opinion a "low-end product" at a high-end price". I never thought about his comment until yesterday when I had to have him come out again. (2 years later) New problem: When my washer hits the spin cycle it sounds like a 747 is landing in my house. Woke up yesterday and found my laundry room flooded with oily water. He said that the drum and rear bearings are shot. He gave me a $442.00 estimate to fix it.

At this point, I would be spending close to $700.00 just for the privilege of having an LG product. That is $140.00 extra a year for every year of ownership. Had I purchased a unit that was "cheap" I might of expected it not to last; however, spending $1200.00 for the washer. It should last longer than 5 years. The repairman gave me the number for LG customer service and told me "good luck they have the worst customer service and do not stand behind their products". I called and he was correct. They don't. I purchased this brand because 5 years ago Consumer Reports listed them as good quality. My next letter is directed at Jim G. On April 4, 2008, I purchased for $1709.92 from Home Depot in Murfressboro, TN an LG washer/dryer combo model WM3431HW for my kennel. This appliance was recommended for that purpose by a Home Depot salesman who said it was a top-of-the-line appliance. The machine worked more or less well until December 17, 2009, when it shorted out during a wash cycle. It blew the house breaker and leaked all over the floor.

I contacted HD who recommended a local repair company (MARS) as the only one that would work on this appliance. The HD salesman John ** said that there was an LG special two-year warranty in effect at the time I purchased the machine. Today, they denied this. The MARS repair man said the machine would cost more to repair than the cost of a new machine and then would still be a crappy machine.

I called LG Customer Service and spoke with "Louis" who said we had to call their designated repair company Bottoms Appliance (second service call charge) who also said that the machine would cost more to repair than a new one and that until they got into it, they couldn't be certain how much it would cost as there was a lot of water damage inside from it leaking on itself.

Neither LG nor HD wants to do anything about the situation. But 19 months is far too short a time for a major appliance to last unless they are defective. The 74 pages of complaints just about washers on this website since just 2006 suggest that these machines are substandard, defective, and sometimes dangerous--that it threw the breaker suggests an electrical problem that could have resulted in a fire had the breaker not blown.

Complaints about other LG products suggests a widespread (even worldwide) problem with these appliances. Now, it seems like a very good time for a class action suit against the manufacturer and its major retailer Home Depot.

I purchased an LG front loading washer about eight months ago. The first one was delivered damaged and was replaced one week later. I built a platform for it to sit on so it was easier on our backs to use. The machine would not balance and consistently walked around on the platform. The other day, it actually fell off, breaking the water lines and was laying on its front side still running. I was able to shut it off and got help setting it back on the platform. I put a barrier around the machine so it could not walk off again. I balanced the platform, and then the machine, using a level and checking top sides, front/back and diagonally from front to back. It still will not balance when spinning.

I called service and the person answering the phone spoke broken English which I had difficulty understanding. They said that I could purchase their platform or set the machine on the floor. I asked for service to check it out but they just kept saying it was designed to be on the floor or screwed to their platform. When I purchased it, I was told that I could easily build my own platform.

I also purchased the matching dryer. It doesn't dry the clothes and has to be run twice on the automatic cycle. Consumers Reports rated this equipment best for its class. It is horrible and a giant waste of money. I will never purchase from LG again. The equipment is dented, scratched and continues to rock and roll when spinning. Any machine that falls off a pedestal and still keeps running is a safety hazard. My old machine would just shut off if it got out of balance.

All I was continually told was that my warranty is only a year (1). I explained that I understood that, but I didn't feel that a steel drum should be falling apart after just 5 and 1/2 years. I asked if they did not care about the quality of their products - that this appeared to be a flaw in manufacturing. As I was quite certain that they would not be manufacturing a dryer that would fall apart in 5 and 1/2 years - of course at this point it appears to me that they do not care.

After going round and round with Cheryl ** of the customer service department she actually hung up on me. I repeatedly asked to speak with her direct supervisor and she told me that the call would not be escalated any further. She did tell me that her direct supervisor was Daniel ** and that he was not at his desk. I told her that I would be glad to leave a message, but she just continued to tell me that she would not escalate my call any further and then hung up.

The customer service at LG is appalling - I will never ever purchase another LG product. And any company that can only afford to cover their products with a 1 year warranty should be ashamed! I understand that parts that are subject to wear and tear are your responsibility, but a steel drum should not fall apart!

I purchased from Home Depot on 11/19/2007. The first two items were delivered--they were defective and were not installed. The third one began leaking from underneath almost immediately but not always a discernible amount. I had bought a plastic tray to set the stacked pair in but was told by HD installers that it would not be necessary, so I returned it. My new ceramic tile floor is scummed up, but I am hoping that there is no real damage as it has only leaked into the next room twice and I usually try to wipe up as much as I can reach right away.

I have called repairmen three times on this issue (only problem I have had), but they are never able to recreate it in the 15 minutes or so that they can work on it, and even though they see the photo and the scum marks under the washer, LG has refused to replace the washer. I routinely check the filter but have never found anything in it, so it is not a clogged filter. I am planning to move to a house with a wood floor, and there is no way this washer should be used anywhere except on a cement floor next to a floor drain.

Like everyone else, this is the most expensive washing machine I have ever purchased, and it is, by far, the worst as well. LG customer service is just propaganda. I kept a "leak log" for the year 2008 where I recorded what cycle, what I was washing, etc. I am about to launch an effort to get Home Depot to stand behind this junk since I purchased an extended warranty. But I don't really expect them to care much either, frankly.

From the reading here, I expect that everyone who sold this product is getting pummeled with dissatisfied customers. These defective washers would have been recalled if LG were a reputable company. I think that U.S.A. should quit exporting this junk and a class action suit should be filed against these bold and brazen junk dealers. I am being reminded every time I wash a load of clothes how I wasted $1,300 on a piece of scrap metal by falling for marketing hype.

The LG Laundry Washer/Mdl: WM0642HW s/n 802KWBY009 was purchased almost two years ago; the moldy smell is horrible once the clothes are washed and the machine walks across the laundry room floor when it goes into the spin cycle. The first time service was called, we were told it was a balance thing and it was taken care of (in May 2008). Then this time, we were told there is nothing they can do because they now are claiming it's the flooring the machine is on and it now needs to be placed on a cement floor. This isn't an option for us since the laundry room is on the main floor of the house, along with the plumbing. When we purchased this model, I specifically asked Best Buy if there would be an issue with placing the washer on a linoleum floor and I was told "no" (The floor was only 2 years old at the time).

I have repeatedly asked LG for a refund since we've been told that it will continue to do this going forward by the service men that have come to our home. I'm very happy with the dryer, I just need a washing machine that bounced across the floor and blocked the doorway to the laundry room. Best Buy has washed their hands of this as well. We were also told that we should purchase the shock-absorbers that they now sell (which they didn't have when we bought the machine) because they are now seeing problems with the vibration of the washers. Again, I asked if the flooring is an issue with these machines and the same person that sold me the set in March 2008 said "no, the flooring shouldn't be a problem." My warranty expired on 3/29/09. By far it truly isn't a quiet machine as advertised. How do I go about getting a full refund through LG and returning it to Best Buy? Any help in getting this rectified is greatly appreciated.

It constantly requires use of the water plus and second rinse button just to run a routine load, clearly defeating the water saving feature of the machine! I have tried dumping extra pitchers of water into the machine since it seems to gauge load size by weight, soaking a beach towel and adding it to the load even though it is clean, running the entire load through the rinse and spin cycle with no rinse so it's completely wet and then running the "normal" wash cycle. Nothing works. I paid $2,000 for a washing machine that does not wash properly! My washer (WM2277HS) smells like mold and mildew. I have to wash everything twice or more and the towels are the worst. I never let anything sit there for anytime so that is not a problem. We noticed that water seems to be sitting under a rubber ring (around the door on the inside of the washer). This is the worst design I have ever seen. This was an expensive set. I will never buy another one!

I purchased this washer and dryer combo. The washer continually smells. You have to leave the door between cycles or it will smell. We have had the dryer for only 2 years. The dryer starts to make a chattering noise only when there is a very light load in it. I called LG Tech Support to see if they could direct me to the problem. They couldn't; they just gave a number for a service repair center. I asked LG if this would be covered under warranty as the unit is only 2 years old. They told me sorry, it was out of warranty and "have a nice day." I spent $900 on this so-called dryer. I will never and I will tell everyone I can not to purchase anything from LG Again. This washer and dryer set was extremely expensive and I have had nothing but trouble from them.

The washer smells all the time (bad design), the dryer cracks at the seams all the time (poor design). I would advise everyone to stay away from any LG product. They won't back up their products. My dryer is only 2 years old and I cannot use it on automatic dry mode because it will not dry the clothes. I have to have it on timed dry all the time. I will never ever buy a LG product because they are junk and the company will not back up their product. For a $2000 dryer, the warranty should be for 5 years not 1 year. I hope they go out of business. As far as I am concerned they have!

I am so grateful for this website. I was in search of contact information for the LG Tromm Front Loader Washing Machine that we purchased about 3 years ago. The top of the line, so we thought, the most expensive that they had to offer at the Home Depot place of purchase in Jackson, Mississippi. The code LE would show and I tried over and over to get this thing to start again, turning it on and off, unplugging it, restarting the cycle. Every time it would stop again after being on a few minutes.

I could not readily put my hands on the information of contact to call for service, so I went online and ran across this website. I can identify with all the problems listed, because we have them as well: the smell, front door leaking, cycles incomplete, the drum not turning, etc. I mean everything that was listed, I experienced it. The smell would get into the clothes. We tried washing them over and over, using fabric softener above the normal usage quota to no avail. Clothes were ruined, there was the bad smell of mildew and an expensive machine that does not work.

My wife and I purchased a Maytag Top Loader in 1989 when our son was born. He is now 20 years old. We replaced the washer when we got this new machine about 3 years ago. We just bought a new dryer this year (2009). I am disappointed and very much so with this LG Tromm. I have not made any calls yet. From looking at all the previous responses, the frustration that it will cause just isn't worth it. It bothers me to have raggedy stuff! Listening to your complaints is going to save me money, I think. At least I can call the company or manufacturer and be aware straight up if I want to pay for the service that they are offering. I do recall seeing something about these kinds of machines on the news about all the problems that have been listed on this page. Please help me get this resolved.

The dryer wouldn't dry the clothes completely. LG's response was I wasn't washing the right amount of clothes, yet when I asked exactly what they wanted me to do, they wouldn't answer me. LG front load washer (model no. WM2277HW) was purchased on 8-29-2004. I have had an authorized service agent working with LG Technical Support to fix this washing machine due to an error code (LE) during wash cycle. After two months and over $300 of parts and labor, the service agent determined that the 5-year-old washer was irreparable. I have contacted LG Customer Service numerous times with no help to resolve this issue. The first customer service representative I spoke with (12-9-2009) informed me that if the service agent would call Technical Support and tell them that the washer was irreparable, they would start this replacement process. This was done.

When I contacted LG the following day (12-10-2009), a different customer service representative informed me that there was nothing he could do and transferred me to a supervisor (Delano). The supervisor informed me that the washer was not irreparable just because their "authorized" repair service could not fix it. The only solution that the supervisor offered was to find another repair center in my area and get the information to LG so that they could authorize them to fix the washer. I spent the next two hours calling service repair centers in my area (5) and non-local repair centers (2). All seven of the service repair centers refused to work on the washer stating that they could not fix the problem.

I called LG to speak with the supervisor again; however, the third customer service representative that answered the phone would not allow me to speak with the supervisor. He did, however, suggest that they had an LG technician in my area that for an additional $75 charge could come out and diagnose the problem. When I reminded him that I have had an authorized service agent and LG Technical Support working on my washer for two months and the problem has already been diagnosed at the cost of over $300, he very rudely said that there was nothing else he could do for me.

This washing machine is approximately 5 years old. There is no power to the unit. The main control board was replaced by the service agent with direction given from LG Technical Support on one of his earlier visits, but it no longer works. The gears are stripped in the motor. The bearing on the rear drum is seized up and the drum will not spin. The washing machine is no longer under warranty; however, all of the parts with the exception of the control board are still covered under the seven-year parts warranty. To replace the control board, the gears, the rotor, the stator, and the rear drum assembly, plus the cost of labor will cost more than a new washer not counting the $300 I've already spent to replace the control board which is now defective.

The LG customer service representatives have been very rude and unwilling to offer any other solution than for me to give them more money for a washing machine that is obviously of poor quality and not worth the cost of the repairs. I will never buy another LG product due to the unprofessional, discourteous customer service staff, incompetent technical support staff that took approximately two months (5 service visits) to diagnose the initial problem, and the overall quality and durability of the washing machine.

Smelling of the rubber that they just replaced is minor! The washer has ruined several luxurious brand new towels. Big holes in them! It puts tears, rips and holes in all under shirts, polos, blouses, sheets, pillowcases and these were all high quality items purchased all from Macy's. I was also finding spots of rust on everything. LG just thinks I am crazy. They said as long as the techs don't say it can't be fixed, well then too bad for me!

Well now I have proof where the rust was coming from. They said impossible because it was a stainless steel drum. Well when the tech replaced my drum and the whole machine was apart, I took a picture of everything corroded with rust. I asked the tech if it was refurbished and he said no. It looks refurbished to me! The hoses (4) have gaskets that were completely rusted, along with 2 other parts. Guess I'm not crazy after all. I don't know if every part was replaced. I thought so but guess what? Still rust, still holes and the clothes come out dry in a lot of spots. No wonder the clothes are filthy and smelly still! I threatened them that I was going to write this letter, but who really wants to take this time? However they could care less.

I called LG and Home Depot and was told to clean the tub, leave the door open, pay for the cleaning tablets. Two years later, I found that the problem has not gone away. One use of my towels and they smell. Clothes do not clean as they should. It is very disappointing. If the machines are defective, there should be a recall. A lot of money is spent on machines that don't do their job. I was never told when I purchased the machine that I would have to spend money every month on cleaning tablets that don't eliminate the smell. I was told that these were the best washing machines and water does not build up in the machine.

We purchased the LG washing machine and dryer in 2006. The Home Depot salesman told us it is considered the best available. This is the worst $1,800 purchase we've ever made! I will never even look at another LG product. Stay away. We owned a Maytag set for 20 years and I don't think we ever had to call a repairman. This washer makes our clothes stink, it leaks water all over the floor and 4 weeks ago, it just went out. No lights will come on at all. We have been trying for weeks to get it fixed. The repairman has come out 3 times and has been sent the wrong part every time by LG. He said they changed the washer after 2006 and it's hard to get parts for the models that were made before 2007!

Is there anyone out there who would like to file a class action lawsuit against LG on behalf of the hundreds of complaints? There must be something that can be done for the consumer. We do not have the money to purchase a new washer!

I purchased my LG front load washer and dryer about 3 years ago. Do not buy an LG washer or dryer! I have experienced the same problems so many others have posted. The LG washer is defective. After many calls to LG, visits from various repair people, the problem of mold/mildew and poor cleaning remains. Like others, I have had front load washers before and never had problems like I do with this one. When speaking with LG representatives, they typically tell me I'm not cleaning the machine properly. There is never an admission that the machine is the problem. The dryer now has a cracked drum and I'm expecting a huge fight to have LG honor the warranty. More likely, I will be purchasing a new washer/dryer - replacing a 3-year old set. I will never buy another LG product again.

We purchased an LG front load washer (model # 2688hwma) on August 12, 2008. Everything was running good until it started making a lot of noise around June 2009. At the time, I had an LG technician (Harriet) working on my refrigerator and had him to take a look at the washer as well. He said the drum in the washing machine is the cause of the noise during the washing cycle, which needed to be changed immediately. He told me that he will place an order for parts needed for my washer, and I was advised to call LG customer service later in the day. I called LG (800-243-0000) to schedule an appointment for servicing the washing machine and told her that the technician had examined the washer and had gone ahead to order parts needed for the repairs. A week later, LG technicians Harriet and Michael started taking apart the washer and removed the drum that was causing the noise.

I wasn't watching them every moment until I heard loud banging and decided to see what was going on. They were trying to remove the "alter tub" apart from "drum". After 1 1/2 hour had passed, they came to realize that these two pieces were sealed together and will need to be replaced with a new set. Because of the banging, the center rod has broken the seal, which may cause leaks. So they came back with the new drum for the washing machine, and I noticed the drum had huge dents all around the drum. I told Harriet that this is unacceptable and I would prefer a new drum with no dents to be replaced back to my less than a year old washing machine. So the washer was pushed to another week until for another new drum to arrive.

Finally, on July 14, 2009, Harriet and Michael came with a new drum and started putting back the machine together, and I noticed he was removing the rubber gasket from the problem drum. I had asked him, “Why are you replacing the old gasket to the new drum?” I called the customer service immediately and was advised that rubber gasket was not ordered during the time when the drum was ordered. He simply said, "This is fine and is not broken.” So I had no choice but to take his advice since he is a certified LG technician. So after they left, I felt relieved to have my washing machine back in order and started doing my laundry.

I noticed on the second load that there was water on the floor. I immediately called customer service to have them come back to fix the problem that might had been caused by the repair, but she said they will be on vacation until August. I told them that this needs to be fixed since I am still under the first year warranty. They had advised me to get the extended warranty for my washer and I did. I had a technician from "DIAL", an authorized LG service center, come to take a look at the leak, but he said he can't find the leak and cannot stay and wait for the leak to happen. So, I called the LG people again to set another appointment about the leak, and he came again and did nothing to fix the machine because he cannot stay and wait for the leak to happen. At this point, I called LG and she said she will get a 2nd opinion from another authorized LG technician to come out to see my leak problem.

It is September 2009; I get three technicians from B&H appliances. Before they came, I had put in a load in, so when they arrive, they can see where the leak was coming from. They made me remove my wet clothes out of the washer and then shut off the water supply before the source of the leakage. So, how are they going to find where the leak is, when there is no water? And the floor had gotten wet from removal of the wet clothes, so it was even more difficult to see where the leak was coming from. They just lifted the machine in an angle at the bottom to see where the leak was. They didn't find a leak because they shut off the water supply, and they were on their way out the door because they did not see any leak. After they left, I replaced the wet clothes into the washer, and in no time, water was coming out under the machine, and this time, it was a lot worse than it was before they started working on the bottom and the top side of the interior of the machine.

I called LG again, and I spoke to someone from customer relation department named Dorothy. She said there is nothing they could do because they had a 2nd opinion and found that there is no leak. Also, they made an assumption that I was not using "HE" detergent because the technician saw an old bottle of non-HE detergent in the laundry room. Mind you, this LG washing machine is less than a year old, and of course, I had regular detergent lying around from my old washing machine. I clearly stated that she already had taken sides and this was not fair. They never asked me what detergent I was using and made assumption. Also, I told her they were here only for 10 minutes and the problem wasn't fixed.

I had spent more time over the phone trying to explain the leak than for the repairmen to fix the problem. What is the point of having the extended warranty when the customer service and the repairmen did not do anything to fix this ongoing problem from day one? She advised me to look into hiring a technician to access the problem out of my own pocket and file a claim report that I “maybe” be reimbursed. I don't think I should take out any more of my money to fix a leak, which I know it was caused by them and was under the first year warranty.

Within 3 to 6 months, we had issues with the washer having a horrible gunk build up behind the ring and in the trap at the bottom of the washer. Mold became another issue on the rubber seal. It tends to leak from time to time. Not only do our towels smell terrible but so do most of our clothes. I have taken the washer completely out of the house and rinsed down with hose 3 times to try to remove debris, using the Refresh tablets and cleaning with Clorox and various solutions. Later, the heating element went out - it took me two weeks to get a repair manual from LG (they didn't want to give it to me at all but I found a sympathetic operator). After finding the problem, it was too expensive to keep putting money into this ** - I got a "cheap" Kenmore. Next, the Washer - it's a front loading **. I purchased an LG washer in 2006. It’s not that old. It stopped working and was flashing a code. I called Best Buy and it was going to cost me $100 just for a diagnostic evaluation. Of course, in my mind that would be cheaper than buying a new washer. The technician that I talked with told me he already knew what was wrong with my washer. It was a sensor that went bad and it happened quite often.

After having the conversation and him quoting me an approximate price of at least five hundred dollars, I decided it would be cheaper to get a new washer. Is there any way I can get some reimbursement on a three-year-old expensive LG washer that should not have gone bad so quickly? The technician said he had this happen frequently with these washers. I had to buy a new washer. Washers should last longer than three years and if it is a chronic problem with sensors on these washers, it seems unfair that there is not a recall or something.

The design was very terrible - the water and debris goes in there but has no way to get back out. So you all may want to get yourself a screw driver, take those out and clean them very well. I think that when you drain the water - that is why it smells so bad, but not for sure. I think with this many complaints about this washer, the FDA or someone would get involved. The first time I ever drained the hose and lint collector, it smelled so terrible I had to get away. I am sure it was mold because when I cleaned it with a wash cloth, the cloth was black. The salesman didn't inform me that approximately once a month I needed to get down on the floor and open a little door, pull out a rubber tube, take off cap and let water drain out into container. A good 2 cups of water spills out.

The installer "mentioned" that these tasks needed to be done on a regular basis. Mold problems with your LG washing machine? I believe I have the answer to the question as to why the expensive LG washing machine you bought is not working correctly. See if this doesn't sound familiar. The machine started out working like a champ. Well, it should have, you paid a little extra money for it. But it looked good and the reviews (by the way, who wrote these reviews? The company? Buyer beware!) were great. Then, your clothes started smelling a little funny. Your initial reaction was, I must have left the wet clothes sit too long in the washer. But then, the smell got worse and was more consistent. So you got on the internet to see if you could find any information about it, maybe someone has had the same problem and they found a solution. Lo and behold, you aren't the only one with this problem.

As it turns out, there are many people with the same problem with about as many solutions - clean the drain and run a hot cycle, use bleach, use vinegar, wipe the gasket out and leave the door open after each use, buy a special product, it works wonders, etc. But wait a damn minute, I didn't buy this machine at ACME discount appliance store. I bought a name brand at a reputable store and I paid a premium for the machine. I shouldn't have to do this. Ladies and gentlemen, I have done more research (physical and digital) than I have should ever have had to do and this is what I have discovered: The machine does work great, at first. After each use, water accumulates in the rubber gasket that seals the door/drum. Mold grows in the damp area created in the rubber gasket. OK, there's the problem.

The fix? Unfortunately, there isn't a magic solution. This washing machine has a design flaw (described above) that LG is, so far, unwilling to admit as it would lose much money refunding money to consumers for a defective product. There is at least one class action lawsuit that I am aware of (Jan 2008). I believe it was entered in court by a law firm from Ohio. You should be able to find it if you Google it (LG washing machine lawsuit). I personally am opposed to class action lawsuits and I believe this country is in desperate need of Tort Reform. However, I also believe that this circumstance is one of those few times where a class action lawsuit is legitimate. LG produced and marketed a product that is defective and it appears the majority of consumers have the same problem.

In the interim, if you want to fix your washing machine, there is only one solution and it isn't easy. The rubber gasket must be removed and cleaned or replaced. The area around the drum must also be cleaned to remove all the mold. Some machines (such as the case with mine) may find other problems - detergent buildup, clogged lines, etc. To take care of these problems, the front of the machine must be disassembled. This will require a licensed appliance repair technician or a handyman, who has a couple of tools. The repairman is a no-brainer. Make a call, get an appointment, tell him what the specific problem is (i.e. you need a new gasket and you need the machine cleaned) and pay the bill.

If you know someone who is handy with "things" (my option), the machine can be disassembled using the schematic from the following website **. This website has step-by-step instruction on how to take the machine apart and get to the gasket. After removing the gasket, I tried to soak it in Oxi-Clean in the sink for a couple of hours, scrub it, then soak it in fresh water for 24 hours, didn't work. I bought a new gasket. Keep in mind, this machine has a design flaw. The problem will reoccur unless you keep the gasket dry after each use. I know this was a lengthy post, but I hope it helps a couple of folks who are pulling their hair out just trying to get what they paid for, a washing machine that washes clothes properly.

I used Kenmore in the past and never had this problem. Of course, I never had a front in loader.

I have not contacted anyone about my LG washer and dryer. I have just read a number of complaints with my exact problem and I won't waste my time! My LG washer was purchased from my granddaughter, which she only used about 6 months and lost her job so I bought it from her and got rid of my Kenmores. Oh, how I wish I had them back. This washer has the most hideous smell from water and waste collecting in the front loading door gasket and it also leaks the detergent all down the front of the washer and I see that there is no "fix" available, so I will not waste my time with this company. I will tell everyone I know and am in contact with to not purchase their products.

I have had similar problems with the LG front loading washer/dryer combo. Since I owned the washer, I've had the machine serviced at least 5 times, all for the same reason. My machine has a common problem of not draining, the OE error. This is one of the worst washers I have ever owned and please do not waste your hard-earned money on an LG washer/dryer combo. The drying mechanism is the worst; it takes four hours to dry a single load. I'm actually wasting more money with this awful model. I regret ever buying this piece of futile equipment. I bought an LG front-loading washer and dryer from Home Depot in November 2005, totaling approximately $1600. I also purchased an Extended Service Plan for each for $160 ($80 per machine). From November 2005 till approximately January 2008, I had mold problems with the washer. I had a technician under the ESP service. He told me that I was using too much soap and nothing could be done about the mold. Around that time, January 2008, I began to use a little Clorox in 1-2 white loads per week, something I hadn't done before since I don't like using Clorox bleach. It seemed to help the mold problem. Unknown to me, a lot of the Clorox was draining out of the dispenser cup and down the front of the washer while I was pouring it in. With the drawer open while dispensing, I was unaware of this. I would smell Clorox very strongly but didn't think much of it.

In April 2008, I noticed pitted corroded marks on the front panel paint. I called the service people, and they said they wouldn't service that. I continued with my routine until June 2009, when I finally discovered the issue. I had a pile of clothes on the floor in front of the washer, and the Clorox drained on top of them, ruining the clothes. I then find out what was happening. For more than a year, Clorox was draining down the front and sliding under my washer (I have not yet assessed floor damage.) and corroding the paint on the front of my washer. Not only does it look bad, I am worried about the electronics in the front panel.

ESP people came out. The first man said I was filling too full. (Hopefully if I were, there would be safety measures to prevent external exposure.) I was not overfilling. He refused to assess the issue and left. I demanded a second service, and that individual documented the issue clearly and exactly. Now, the Extended Service Plan says they will not do anything about my machine, except replace the drawer. I believe the life of my washer has been compromised by the Clorox leak and feel my machine will not last as long as it might have. I have one more year on my extended service plan.

I found the part on the net and fixed it myself. It's 2009 now and the rubber drain hose developed a hole in it. It spreads water all over the floor. Washer smells bad too and the dryer is way finicky if you don't keep the outlet pristine! For the money they get, these machines are not worth the time of day! My complaint is regarding LG Washing Machine WM2077CW, delivered in August 2006. I paid $809 to Home Depot. I spoke with LG supervisor, Willy **(Huntsville, AL). Complaint: The washing machine has mold growing in the rubber seal area and I have not been able to remove it no matter what I do. Also, in the liquid dispenser area, there is mold growing and I cannot get to it since part of the dispensers cannot be removed. There is an offensive odor coming from the washing machine due to these factors. The problem started about 6 months ago and it has gotten progressively worse. I made to calls to LG and they informed me that there was nothing they could do about it. I asked, "Don't you care that I cannot remove mold?" and their answer was, "There is nothing we can do about it." I believe this washing machine is not hygienically safe to use and would like it fixed or replaced.

Also, the dryer stays on cooling and takes three cycles to dry each load. Expense as hell to dry the clothes. Then, the drum cracked and broke along the weld. The repair tech showed me that it was a manufacturing defect. LG doesn't want to help. I told them that if they supply the part, I would pay the labor. I also told them that I was in the market for several thousand dollars worth of new appliances. This experience would make the difference of me selecting LG for all of the new appliances. No success. They don't care. I asked again and was told there is nothing that they can do to help me. Thanks a lot LG! Never again! For about $725, I can pay to fix the defective unit. No thanks.

This is less than 3 years old! Economically, much of the clothing of 4 people, towels and linens cannot be bleached. After reading all of the complaints on the web, I realized I am not the only one with lots of complaints after purchasing the LG Tromm Washer and Dryer combo. Like most on the site, my washer has a horrible smell. My clothes are sour (to the point of throwing them away). I thought this machine was supposed to save money in the long run. Needless to say, my husband and I are handy people (good thing). We cannot get anyone to come back and fix our set. I have an extended warranty, no good if you cannot get help. Anyway, all of you LG users, I am with you as well and will never buy another LG product. There should be a recall on these machines.

I did, however, spend my Sunday undoing every hose the machine has to offer and still, the machine gives an error of a drain problem. We manually emptied 6 garbage cans of smelly water, still not fixed. We came back later to tackle the machine and started taking out screws - to no avail. Inside the tub, we removed the 3 long grey "agitators" with the 4 black balls and discovered the grossest black sludge. I am a nurse and am not grossed out easily. I gloved up for this one. Needless to say, I cleaned all of the 3 agitators and soaked them in bleach overnight, cleaned them with a toothbrush.

No, I am not OCD, just don't want to smell funk. After 6 open cycles with bleach (no clothes in the washer), my washer smells clean. Also, the drain that the book shows to clean is also smelling good. Hope this helps someone. The project takes a little time, but if it works, it is less expensive than a repair person or a replacement.

We purchased the LG WM2277HW washer about two years ago. I'm frustrated with this appliance for two reasons. First, we started seeing LE and CE (motor overload) errors within a month of owning the washer. Customer service was marginally helpful. They ended up replacing a part under warranty, but the errors persisted about once a month. We are not overloading the washer. This sometimes happens with very light loads. Second complaint is on the difficulty of finding repair parts. The washer recently started leaking. I can pay a repair service to come look at it ($75 to walk in the door, plus parts and labor to replace). So, I pulled the back panel off and quickly discovered a leaking drain hose. Easy fix, right? Well, it turns out no local distributor carries LG replacement parts.

Finding repair info on LG website is a chore, and it pointed me to a business (Andrews Electronics) serving the West Coast which appears to no longer exist (website down, busy signal on phone after four tries). So, I tried their East Coast service rep, at least their website worked, although the part I needed wasn't available. Finally, I found a $10 replacement hose on Partstore.com. What should have taken 15 minutes ended up consuming two plus hours. The washer performance is okay, but I'm not impressed with LG's customer service and even less impressed with their spare parts business model.

My LG washer and dryer were purchased in May of 2006. The dryer had a smell when we ran it and had to be serviced within the first month. I was never told what caused the issue but they did solve it and it has never come back. The washer has now developed a leak from the soap dispenser that causes the soap and bleach to run out on the floor. We spoke to LG and were told to wash out the dispenser and area behind the dispenser to clear out soap build up; there was no build up but I washed it anyway. The problem continued and now the front of the unit just below the dispenser is rusting from behind. I'm told that this issue is not covered by warranty and my cost to replace the front panel of the unit is a huge expense. These units cost just under $3000 just over two years ago. Leaks and rust should be covered by the manufacturer with no questions. The washer and dryer I replaced were 20 years old and never leaked or rusted. I have no choice but to live with the leak and rust until I can afford to replace the unit, now discontinued. The washer and dryer are a pair with interchangeable control panels so I have to replace both. This is very upsetting and never again will I purchase LG products.

We purchased the LG Tromm washer and dryer set from Home Depot in 2007 for over $3000. I absolutely hated them. The smell and mold issues in the washer are ridiculous! I have done all of the recommended things including bleach, leaving the door open, emptying the drain, taking apart the entire machine and cleaning it, using the add water and extra rinse cycles, baking soda, borax, oxyclean. I only use the smallest amount of HE, gave up on Tide, all to no avail. I have thrown away many, many towels as they seem to retain the smell the worst. The so called energy saving features are a load of crap because you have to add water and an extra rinse cycle so the wash cycle takes over an hour! If you use any sort of softener, the sensors on the dryer get messed up. Do not use liquid softener in the washer that compounds the smell and gunk issues. I am giving up and getting a new machine. I am very disappointed in the quality of the product especially as they are pushed as high-end "green" machines.

I purchased an LG front load washer and dryer in November 2008. It was installed on a newly installed tile flooring with underlay in January 2009. Within four months, the washer broke after I washed three small, cotton throw rugs (bathroom size rugs) in it. A repairman did service it. He recommended, at that time, rubber footing to reduce vibration. Within three months, this problem has repeated itself after I washed only two small area rugs. This machine is supposed to be a large capacity machine and nowhere in the service manual does it stipulate how much one can launder in it and what cannot be washed in this WM1020CW model. I have several friends who have other brands of front load washers that capably handle regular use by a family of four and the washing of large cotton towels, small rugs and multiple other items.

LG wants to hold the consumer accountable for an inferior product. It must be my fault for the machine is a quality product. I have been very conscientious about my care of this machine and am incredibly disappointed in LG service, warranty and response to my complaints. I want the machine taken and my money back, but they won't do this if the problem is repairable. But they won't repair it under warranty because I washed a rug in it. My bad. LG will never have my business again, ever. If this is not resolved and/or if the machine has a repeat episode like this, I will take action like LG has never seen.

My washer smells like a soured wet dog! I have followed all of the suggestions that Best Buy gave me about how to get rid of the odor, but nothing works and I have had to buy a new Maytag because the smell was so bad that people who walked into the front door asked, "What is that awful smell?" Also the dryer had to be reset several times before it would dry a load. What am I suppose to do with this expensive set of LG Tromms? Does anyone know if the company will do anything about it? I purchased an LG Front Loader Washing Machine WM1832CW and LG Electric Dryer DLE2532W from Best Buy. Mold and mildew developed within 6 months on the front gray rubber seal. I always leave the washer door open and thoroughly clean both the seal and washing machine with bleach and Mean Green. I also use Affresh tablets. Nothing resolves the mold & mildew issue. I've even resorted to using a toothpick to clean the very small holes LG has in the seal for the water to adequately drain through which has mold & mildew. It is absolutely gross to think that my clothes are being washing with all that mold & mildew. The clothes stink after being washed, worse than they did before they were washed. My husband has thrown "clean" clothes back into the dirty clothes because he refuses to wear a stinky clean shirt all day at work. This in turn has made me double up on my washing but nothing helps the smell.

I have changed detergents and always use a fabric softener in addition to a bounce sheet in the dryer. Clothes still stink. I even smell the same smell in my closet now. The washing also makes a horrendous noise when spinning regardless whether it is a small or large load. It is level and not unbalanced. In addition, on many occasions, the bleach dispenser has not released the bleach during a load. Before I can wash the next batch, I have to either remove the dispenser cup and dump the bleach into the washer and run another cycle to get rid of the bleach or try to properly dispose of it in another location. It is a good thing that I pay close attention to the bleach dispenser; otherwise, it would have ruined my colored clothes during the next wash if it would have decided to dispense the bleach.

Also, it takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes to dry towels, even though I have cut the washing of towels into 2 separate loads. We are only 2 people living in the house, and I wash almost every day or at least every other day so it is not like it is overloaded even if I were to put all of the towels in the washer at once.

The LG set is expensive, and I expected so much more than what I got since purchasing the washer and dryer. I heard so many comments that LG was top of the line, so I was determined to get a set regardless of the price. I do regret my decision. I have talked my mother out of buying any front loader washer because of the mold & mildew issue, and I have even alerted a consumer in Sears of the problem while I was passing by them while they were looking at a front loader washer. The only reason I have not replaced the LG set yet is because I paid way too much for this one just to throw it away.

LG High Efficiency Front loading steam washer and LG front loading dryer: The washer ruins clothing by depositing black marks all on the fabric. I contacted the company who said to follow the cleaning instructions; drain the hose, clean the drain filter and run the tub clean cycle on a weekly or more often basis. This is not energy efficient and it hasn't stopped the black (probably mold) marks from ruining our clothes.

The dryer does not fully dry the laundry using the automatic settings. It appears to be stuck on damp dry or the thermostat is not working properly. This problem has also been happening since we've had the machines. Our mistake was not immediately returning the product. Do not buy these products. There are plenty of other high end machines out there than to waste your money on LG. The amount of maintenance and extra energy used to re-wash and re-dry and run the tub clean cycle is not worth the "steam clean", "front loading" and "less water" features.

We ordered special rubber feet off the internet that we supposed would help and the machine still shakes our whole house on the low spin. After all of this, I called LG and demanded to have it serviced - especially since it is a common problem that many consumers have complained about.

The warranty had expired 6 weeks ago and they want to charge us. If they had acknowledged that it was a faulty design and not told us it wasn't installed correctly and needed to be re-leveled, they would have had to fix it when it was still under warranty. It is such a scam. I have called customer service and they might be extending the warranty after I insisted. So, we will see what happens. It is ridiculous. We are so disappointed with both companies. We unfortunately know now that this is a common problem with LG. I do not recommend this product to anyone. I also do not recommend buying your appliances from a company that will not honor its warranties. I do not see how this could be a cosmetic problem as you would not buy a washer and dryer without any lettering. The lettering on the washer and dryer has worn off, making it illegible.
