We purchased our Kitchenaid Refrigerator, model # KFIS29BB with great excitement in January 2014. We had done our homework, looked at many fridges and were confident in our choice, having owned wonderful Kitchenaid appliances before. Right away I noticed that it seemed to run a lot, and seemed louder than would be right. Ironically we had also purchased a Kitchenaid Dishwasher which is among the quietest in the industry. By August, the icemaker stopped working. It was under warranty, so the repair team came out. This required two visits, one to diagnose and one to actually repair. On repair day, it took two men four hours. They removed every shelf and bin and replaced the compressor and the evaporator. The repairman confided that he had fixed quite a lot of this particular model.
Within two weeks, the ice maker quit again. And this time a loud annoying buzz from the motor began. Another two call repair. The second repair did not require as much time and effort as the first. But within 2 weeks the second repair failed, and the loud buzz was back. The fridge seemed to run constantly, but the temp in the freezer was about 18 degrees, and the fridge, 45. And the buzzing was crazy making incessant. At this point the store agreed to exchange it and we did not purchase another kitchenaid. I'm hoping to save someone else the level of aggravation this purchase caused. On a brighter note, the kitchenaid architect series dishwasher rocks!

Purchased in April 2013 in BrandSmart USA, model as per attached photo (french door) began showing signs of ice in the back upper left corner. A continuous noise (zzzz) non stopping, louder by the day until I called BrandSmartUSA service. One technician came and, after taking out the lower big drawer and removing the interior back cover, found a ball of ice covering the upper part of the evaporator. He removed the ice and said the evaporator needed to be changed. A few days after, he came back with a fan. Looks like his service experts didn't agree with his assessment and changed it to change the fan.
He came back, upset when he realized instead of an evaporator, he got a fan. He removed again the lower drawer, the internal back cover to find out a perfectly functioning fan but an evaporator that is already forming ice again. I'm the mean time, another technician came and his diagnostic was that the assembly behind the ice maker/water disposal (see picture, located on top, left inside corner) needed to be replaced. According to him this is the assembly that controls the cool air distribution and its malfunction causes the problems I am experiencing. According to him, it is a common problem of this model. So, after three visits of the technicians a less than two years old refrigerator still doesn't work properly. One theory: change the evaporator, Second theory: change the upper assembly. One thing is certain, I won't buy ever again a KitchenAid refrigerator and will think three times before buying appliances from BrandSmartUSA.

Side by side 2005 model - LIGHTLY used fridge, 2 adult household; suddenly stopped cooling! Seasoned repairman diagnosed main control board of computer failure which he said is COMMON so they have discontinued the model & carrying the part (MADE IN CHINA) only assembled here. Hopefully I will be getting part for ~$175 inc shipping from Sears (Whirlpool part). Do Not buy HIGH end products. They are overpriced & not any better. Found the same experience with Thermador microwaves - true planned obsolescence!

We purchased a kitchenaid refrigerator, model KFCS22EVMS6 from Sears in 2012. We have had nothing but problems with the refrigerator section.... loud noise, freezing food and most recently not cooling. Temperature will not remain at the recommended setting of 38 degrees (changes automatically to 59 degrees and higher). We have had at least 4 service calls on this refrigerator. Just called tonight due to the non-cooling issue and cannot get an appointment until October 27th. The previous service technicians refuse to state our refrigerator should be replaced by Kitchenaid. This is our first and last kitchenaid refrigerator we will ever purchase.

We filed for service on our extended warranty plan on 9/9/2014. The service tech took 10 days to come to our home only to state he would need to come back. 10 days later he returned to say he did not have sufficient time to make a repair. 10 days later he returned to take the frig to the shop to locate a "freon" leak. On 10/14/2014 he called to state he could not repair the frig and was turning it over the Whirlpool customer experience center and gave me their number to call. A day later they tell me it should have been filed with the extended warranty claims division (Federal Warranty Service Corp). I called the Federal Warranty Service Corp and they said the tech had to file the report. I called the Newport Appliance Service (the tech's company) and they have no idea.

Re: "The factory in Japan was wiped out by the tsunami and the nuclear power plant meltdown complicated it". Kitchenaid (Whirlpool) are telling hundreds of consumers they cannot provide a critical component -- main control board -- necessary to repair a frequent problem with their refrigerators. In my case we have a 42" built in, side-by-side, panel ready unit KSSO 42QMB02 purchased in 2007. The "panel ready" descriptor simply means we had it fitted with the same wood paneling we used for our cupboards. The board is failing and it's causing the unit to freeze up with loud fan noises accompanied by disturbing clunks and thuds. It's a matter of minutes or hours or days before it fails entirely. This is a problem reported by others on this site. Worth mentioning is that this is a top of the line refrigerator/freezer that cost between $5,000 - $6,000 not including the paneling.
So here's the terribly sad story KitchenAid is telling customers: They no longer stock the part because the sole source for it, a company in Japan was wiped out by a tsunami and to make matter worse, the meltdown of the Fukishima reactor complicated matters. They told me to have their authorized service provider (B&B - good folks) to "just send the board in to be rebuilt." That my refrigerator/freezer would be down for the length of time it took for the board to be repaired. That they offer no service contracts. That if I wanted they would sell me a new unit at a small discount - $6,233 for a new unit. I should add that because this is a panel ready model with our custom panel wood on it, it would be darn tough to match the old stock so there would be at least several hundred dollars more in panel expense as the old panels no longer fit the new model.
And this get this, when I called another provider in my hometown - a fellow I've known for years, he told me that Kitchenaid/Whirlpool has just today (this was on October 5, 2014) posted a service bulletin that they were disassociating from the company, Cocentric, that has been rebuilding the Main Control Boards for hundreds of customers owing to "service issues". So the bottom-line is that this expensive and beautiful side by side, built-in, panel ready refrigerator is a boat anchor?
Then I found this blog from a very cool, smart and handy fellow, Steve **. In it he describes how pretty easily (if you're handy with a soldering iron and a volt meter that is) you can rebuild the Main Control Board for about $6. He suggest buying a beefier version of one component, a relay, to prevent this from happening ... suggesting a design flaw in this board to me. And he wisely suggests adding an Appliance Surge Protector to prevent spikes from burning the board in the future. This is all beautifully detailed with pictures and part numbers.
So here's my take - Whirlpool/Kitchenaid want to sell you a new refrigerator freezer when they could easily set up a process to fix these boards themselves and support their products. It gets worse. If you want to buy a refurbished board you can! For $800 - $1,200 on eBay! WTF! KitchenAid's service policies are fostering predatory online vendors. Why will people pay this much for a board that KitchenAid lists for about $235? Because ALL OF US CAN'T BE WITHOUT A REFRIGERATOR FREEZER FOR 2-3 weeks. This is insane and immoral. California has tough consumer laws. The Song Beverly Act may cover this as in addition to providing relief for people that buy lemons, it also provides for people like us (in California any way) that expect a top shelf product should last longer than a pair of my boxer briefs.

We have had a #kitchenaid fridge for 2 years now. The service techs from #PoirierSalesandService have been here at least 4 times. Each time I asked that they replace the fridge, and each time they elected to "repair" it, stating that my "fight was with KitchenAid, not Poirier", despite the fact that they sold it to me. We recently noticed a leak coming from the fridge that has now damaged our cabinets and floor beyond repair. The technician said that "there's a crack in the drain pan which you couldn't have caused, meaning that it has been there since the fridge was installed". We have an 7 month old baby girl, and now have mold growing from where the unit was installed. Poirier has at least agreed to file a claim with their insurance to address the cabinets and floor. This is however, apparently of no concern to Kitchen Aid as they have told me that "replacing the unit is not an option". I urge all of you reading this to not buy from a company like Whirlpool/KitchenAid, who clearly disregards the well being of their customers, for the sake of profit, and as such chooses not to stand by their product, post sale.

We bought a brand new KitchenAid refrigerator in April 2006 ($4300) and the main control board went out and they do not make the replacement part. We have been without a refrigerator for 3 weeks and still have no idea when we will have it fixed. The repair company says they have to find a circuit board to have it overhauled. It is unbelievable that Kitchenaid stopped making a major part that control the entire refrigerator.
Updated review: Oct. 6, 2015
After three weeks of downtime, awaiting parts and service, the initial problem was finally solved. The original evaporator was not properly insulated at manufacturing and developed pin holes which led to leaks in the refrigerant and loss of cooling. Another unrelated problem was a faulty control panel. Both were replaced.
It is now mid-September 2015 and the refrigerator has quit cooling again. Not all the way but enough to barely keep frozen food solid and frig items cool. Temps in the two units were 10F and 54F respectively. Service was called (unit is in 2nd year of warranty) and they determined that control panel had failed again and was not performing required heating cycle. This allows ice to build up on evaporator and eventually prevents air from circulating. Two days later they had the parts and repaired the unit.
The repairman told me that this control panel had been updated a total of six times in the proceeding year. This is unbelievable for such a simple device! At any rate, the unit has been operating normally now for the past 5 days so I am going to call the repair complete.
Those of you who read my previous review will note that it took almost three weeks for the initial repair. This was due mainly to lack of repair parts. This time the delay was only one day and that was not due to lack of parts so kudos to G2 Appliance Repair of Phoenix, AZ for their very fast and complete attention to this matter.
I remain very dissatisfied with KitchenAid however for their lack of initial quality and continuing issues with this very expensive product. If you do buy a KitchenAid product I would strongly advise you to purchase an extended warranty. This is the first product I have ever warrantied this way and I am so thankful my wife insisted on it.
Time will tell if KitchenAid has finally fixed their product. In the meantime, I have kept my old refrigerator in the utility room just in case.

Bought 29 cu. ft. French Door refrigerator one year ago. The initial setup was shoddy: doors were misaligned and tape was not removed from ice bucket sensor. It never made enough ice (for 1 person's use daily) nor was ice hard enough (soft like snow cone). Freezer didn't get cold enough (max was +10F no matter what the setting). Ice developed inside refrigerator along top left. Before one-year warranty was up I initiated a service call and one week later (when serviceman finally arrived) refrigerator had a couple of bad parts and it would take another week to get them. He also told me these bad parts were a known problem and not only did KitchenAid not notify its customers but apparently did not fill the supply line with necessary parts to repair.
In the meantime the compressor began making noise loud enough that it was impossible to talk on the phone next to the unit so I emptied it out and turned it off. Two weeks later serviceman arrived with parts (heater panel and control panel and new gaskets) and installed them. He also aligned the door. The door has remained fixed but the new parts did not fix the original problems. I attempted to contact KitchenAid but their web site is useless so I called the retail store where I bought the unit and, after escalating up the corporate ladder was informed that KitchenAid was sending yet another serviceman out in a week's time but this time they would be on the phone with KitchenAid tech support.
At this time I am awaiting his visit and will report the outcome but right now I would strongly advise anyone considering KitchenAid appliances to reconsider. Not only is their product faulty but their service organization is even worse. Not informing customers of a known issue and then not having parts in stock is a failing of major proportions. Regardless of the outcome of this event, I will not have another product from this company in my home - ever!

We purchased a Model KSC23C8EYY side-by-side KitchenAid refrigerator in November 2012 for over $2,499. Immediately we noticed that it was loud and often made strange noises. We tried leveling it precisely, but nothing made a difference. Sometime in 2013, we noticed that water had been leaking behind the refrigerator. We called the factory service people recommended by KitchenAid. They came out and replaced tubing at a cost of over $250 and said that it was not covered under the warranty because it had been installed incorrectly.
In June 2014 The freezer and refrigerator quit getting cold. We called the same repair people. We had to wait days for a service appointment. They showed up and said they had to order the part. Again, we had to make an appointment and take off work for the next visit. This time, there was a different worker who said that the wrong part had been ordered. Again, we had to make an appointment and wait for days for someone to service our fridge. By this time we had been without a refrigerator for over two weeks and used coolers to try to keep as much of our food fresh as possible. Finally, on July 8, 2014 a repairman came out and "fixed" the refrigerator. It required a new compressor and recharging the system. I had to miss an entire day of work to wait on the repairman and then be there for the 3-hour repair. Luckily, this was clearly under warranty and the total cost of $654.79 was covered.
Less than three months later on September 30, 2014, our refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling again. Unable to miss more work in order to wait for repairmen that may or may not fix the problem, we decided to just go to Home Depot and buy a GE refrigerator. In 55 years the KitchenAid refrigerator was absolutely the worst appliance that I have ever owned! Our money was truly thrown away.

Just thought I should chime in that we had problems with both our Microwave and a 48" counter depth Refer. The microwave just stopped working. Had Sears out for repairs, they came out 5 times, couldn't fix it, and we ended up finding one in a Sears outlet and replacing it. It was maybe 7 years old. The compressor went out on the refrigerator. Repairman fixed it, it worked for two weeks and then stopped cooling sufficiently again. Repairman came back out, ran tests, said system was blocked, replaced the filter/dryer, and it has started working again. I was told that KitchenAid has had a rash of problems with the filter/dryer units.

I purchased several KitchenAid appliances from a local retailer at the end of May. These appliances were purchased over other brands specifically because of the Invitation to Savings promotion that was being run at that time. I attempted to fill out the form shortly after purchase but did not have serial numbers, so I did not complete the registration. Our appliances were delivered two months later, but I became very busy with work and family obligations and did not get around to filling out the form until September, when I noticed that the form was required to be postmarked by July 30th in order to receive the rebate.
A new identical rebate plan started immediately after the completion of the above rebate. I could purchase the same appliances today and receive the same rebate, but because I purchased them in May and did not fill out your form by July 30th, I am not allowed to receive the rebate. This seems like a system specifically designed to attract purchases but then minimize the company's cost by denying rebates to people who are delayed in filing for them.
Furthermore, and most upsetting, attempting to achieve resolution on this process has been unnecessarily onerous. The rebate servicing company was completely unable to discuss resolution of the matter and gave me a fax number as the only point-of-contact for resolving this issue. The concept that the only available contact number or email is a fax machine seems antiquated, so I decided to call KitchenAid and attempt to get in contact with someone who could discuss the issue.
After several phone calls and multiple transfers to different individuals within the KitchenAid/Whirlpool organization, I was left with no resolution. The lack of ownership over customer satisfaction within your organization is frankly shocking. While the service personnel understandably have no insight into the rebate process, even the individual within your pre-sales department with whom I spoke offered nothing in the way of help. Telling me that KitchenAid doesn't sell directly to consumers and literally responding to my simple questions with silence is not an effective way to engender customer appreciation or loyalty. Only after filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau did I receive any contact at all, and this was only a couple of sentences emailed to me from the BBB that there would be no resolution. Despite my fax, no contact was made from KitchenAid/Whirlpool themselves.
I expected a much higher level of service from this company, and I am quite disappointed. I understand that part of the blame lies with me for being too busy to get the form completed on time, but I believe the promotion itself is structured to disadvantage people in my situation, everything from the arbitrary time limit to the lack of customer service. That lack of customer service itself is upsetting enough for me to never purchase another KitchenAid/Whirlpool appliance.

We purchased this dishwasher in December 2013. We immediately noticed that the dishes on the top rack and in the utensil tray were coming out dirty, in some cases dirtier than when they went in. In particular, the coffee cups had a baked on residue of detritus that meant we needed to wash them by hand after soaking for a while. We contacted the vendor, Corbeil Electric, who referred us to Whirlpool to get the dishwasher repaired. We had a repair done in January 2014, which did not fix the problem although it was better. We had another repair done in about March, and we waited for a new piece for more than a month. The problem recurred in the summer, and we had it repaired again (same piece replaced) in September. 1 week later, the same problem is still happening.
If someone had mentioned in the reviews that the dishwasher did not get the dishes clean, we would not have purchased it. The service from Whirlpool is appallingly bad, with wait times up to 30 minutes to get through to the service line and they apologize profusely each time but say they cannot do anything about our dud dishwasher. The dishwasher is very quiet, but the dishes are dirty when they come out.

We have found out the mostly constant humming noise is the compressor, as it is always running. We have been told at today's appointment that the compressor needs to be replaced since it is apparently leaking Freon and will hopefully keep working until the repairman can get the part - which is on back order because so many have needed to be replaced!!!! In our conversion to stainless steel we decided on KitchenAid. We got a bundle deal and purchase three appliances from Lowe's and, though I normally never do, I purchased the extended warranty. The microwave (MODEL # KCMS1655BSS) quit working within the first year, still under factory warranty. They brought a new one and out of the box, it did not work! They brought another one and it is still working. Shortly after the first year the oven (MODEL # KEBS179BSS00) was not able to consistently get over 400 degrees. After about 6 service calls and replacing two circuit boards and a temp sensor, it appears to be fixed.
The problem is, anytime a part is needed to be replaced, it takes at least 2 service calls. The first one to "troubleshoot" the problem and say, "you need a new (part), and then they order it and the second one to install the part. Jump forward a couple months and the refrigerator (MODEL # KFIS29PBMS00) stops making ice. This problem actually started while we were still dealing with the oven problems! I called in the fridge and before the tech even came out, I realized that it was a cooling problem as my ice cream turned to soup. I called Lowe's extended warranty and let them know the problem was not the ice maker but a cooling problem. The tech still came out to "troubleshoot" the ice maker.
I pointed out the problem was cooling, showing him the item in the freezer that were thawing. What does he do, order a new ice maker. After probably a dozen service calls and several replaced parts, I told them I wanted my money back. Reading the extended warranty from Lowe's, it says that if the appliance is repaired three times for the same problem that they will buy it back from you. They cut me a check for my purchase price and I went to Home Depot and bought a new Fridge, GE this time. I was very unhappy with KitchenAid and very unhappy with Lowe's "service" techs. I was an electronics tech in the Air Force and I was doing better at troubleshooting this problem than these people were. They were so clueless.
Warning, KitchenAid and Whirlpool are the same thing! I will say that the extended warranty served it purpose and we did not have to spend a dime on any of these service calls, that is good. But for the three appliances there were probably 23 service calls in less than 2 years! Those are all days that I have to be home "between 8 and 1" or "1 and 5". I always pick the earlier time slot. The vast majority of the time I would get a call around 12:50 letting me know they were on the way. They usually showed up well after 1:00, closer to 2:00, not leaving until 3 or later. My day is shot at that point. That's 23 days of my life I sat in my house waiting for a service technician in just 2 years.

11 months into the purchase of our KitchenAid French Door Bottom Freezer, water started leaking onto our NEW hardwood floor, from the bottom of the freezer. Because of how new this was and no VISIBLE problem, we assumed it was an ice cube that dropped out, or something from the filtered water spout on the fridge. At 12 months, we investigated further and noticed the ice build up on the bottom of the freezer. The water was coming from here. The warranty on this had expired, of course. But, who could imagine that a pricey refrigerator such as this would only last 1 year? We got this repaired at our expense thru a certified dealer, so any other warranty would still be valid.
Well after keeping careful watch on the bottom of the freezer, and scraping ice when we could, we have the very same problem again, a little more than 1 year later. Thick ice now, and of course water coming from the bottom. It seems this problem is systemic to the design of this product. This is not satisfactory to the consumer!!!

After purchasing several appliances including a KA Ref, I was delivered a KA Refrigerator with a 1" wide and 1/2" deep scar across both doors including the window on the front door. The scar apparently occurred before the two handles were attached since the scar was under both handles. KA wanted to replace both doors but I refused. The second Ref was delivered with a loud fan noise. A contracted service repairman arrived in a few days and pulled out a piece of Styrofoam and claimed my problem was fixed. Less than 1 hour, the noise began again and has continued for more than two weeks. In the meantime, the front wheel is locked up so we cannot move the ref. The ice maker makes a loud noise when working. What disappoints me most is KA will not replace the new ref but just says get it fixed. So, my advice is just like MJ's below my review: avoid KA as their customer service is non-existent. You will be stuck with all problems and have to deal with local service only. They do not replace appliances. The only reason I got the first one replaced was due to the retail sales store having another one in stock. If I was to order another ref, KA would not be considered. Good Luck.

DO NOT BUY KITCHENAID PRODUCTS. They look nice in the store, but are actually poorly built and worse, performance is awful. I have dishwasher, stove, and refrigerator and all 3 have deteriorated in quality after just a year of use. Their customer "service" is the absolute worst. I've seen other comments on this site and they are accurate. Customer service will not help in any way. Their only answer is "I'm sorry." Our refrigerator has a documented design flaw and they refuse to replace it. Their solution is to have someone come to our house and completely strip the inside out so we are left with a metal box. Then, the person is going to build one out of all new parts. I will have a frankenstein that will not be inspected by anyone, no quality control, and no idea if it's being done properly. The model is KFIS29BBMS00 -- but don't worry, because of the known design flaw they don't make it anymore. Kitchenaid is horrible and their customer service is worse. Buy ANYTHING else.

My name is ** and Customer Service in America is dying a slow and agonizing death! I'm writing this in the hope that it will help others. Our fridge, KitchenAid model number KSSO42QMB01, was built and purchased in 2004. This is the unit that allows custom cabinetry front panels to be installed so that it matches kitchen cabinets. Around the two year mark, the motherboard, or control board, failed. I bought the needed part and had it installed. Summer, July 14th 2014, I came home after a three day trip and find that the entire fridge is down, inside control panel lights are blinking erratically, fridge is nice and warm. Called an approved product service company and they diagnose the problem as a component on the control board has failed again.
They ship it to Core Centric in Chicago to have it rebuilt, which is the online suggestion KitchenAid provides all service companies. They don't have the parts necessary for rebuild so service company sends it to Fix Your Board in Texas and the same conclusion is made, that they don't have access to the needed part. We cross reference the KitchenAid control board #2307028 to a part that Sears Direct Parts says is guaranteed to work. This is Sears control board part #W10219463. I personally purchase the part online, receive confirmation of purchase and confirm delivery date of August 4th. August 8th, I email Sears Parts Direct and ask about status of my part. Sears emails back, "sorry but we cancelled that order, as you're not an approved service company, but we did credit your credit card the full amount".
Wonderful! Shame on you Sears! I email back, what if I have my service people purchase the part? They say fine. In the meantime I am in contact with KitchenAid in an effort to decipher if there is another avenue to get the part or if they have a resource to repair the existing board. In this version, they state that the factory burned down about two years after my fridge was manufactured, and all schematics and design plans were destroyed so figuring out which component is needed to repair was impossible. (So your telling me you can't figure out which component needs replacement by looking at the board and your telling me the components are no longer available anywhere in this country or on earth?)
They suggest Core Centric! I explain that the part was shipped to them and the Texas company with no chance of repair. I propose the Sears Parts Direct control board might be a possibility. KitchenAid says they will consult with their engineer to confirm whether or not this part works. They contact me inside the 72 hours they said it would take to respond and say, "go ahead and try it". In the meantime Sears emails back that their part will not work, so that stream dries up.
I am now emailing Warner's Stellian, the appliance company that sold me the fridge in the first place, to see if they know what to do to fix the control board. Response from them is "send it to Core Centric in Chicago." This statement was delivered by an apparently, young person that couldn't deliver a full sentence without inserting a half dozen "UMMs" in it. Everybody has to start somewhere, but I curse my fortune at getting all the "newbies"! Sorry, I digress.
I inform KitchenAid and the person there says she will pass that on to their people and see if there is another road to go down. I receive a call a couple days later and KitchenAid says "after review, we've decided to send you a new fridge in replacement and in five days time you will receive a call from KitchenAid to identify which model fridge you need to replace the old unit"!!! I am shocked and stunned! I am, by nature, not a rage filled consumer that screams abuse at anyone that doesn't treat me justly. I dealt with customer complaints for 30 years, from people that had far greater issues than a busted fridge, so I do not get worked up about warranty issues. I think to myself, "the system still works and I guess I had the good fortune of doing business with a stand up company that realizes the value of backing up the product they sell!" I thank them for the help and wait for their call.
I get the call today, August 15th, from KitchenAid folks. I assumed that there would be a cost incurred for a new fridge, so I wasn't shocked that they said it would be a pro-rated warranty. KitchenAid says to get the model that fits the spot we need to fill, it's going to cost me $3,550.00 and of course, there's no guarantee the custom cabinet faces will fit the new fridge. I noticed that they didn't offer another ice and water dispenser, but I am sure they will after I call them back. I'm now at the One Month Without a Fridge mark and not loving it! Got an older, more reliable fridge in the garage, so it's a bit of a hassle but not life threatening! This is a real "first-world" problem, so it could be worse. Notice that it's now a month lost! My wife is tolerant, but losing her patience.
I notice online that several products are manufactured by the same corporation so I'm not certain if I should ditch this company and go to another equally frustrating company or stay the course with KitchenAid. I will be happy to keep you posted on the outcome. Hope your experience isn't nearly as exasperating!

Installed 2003. There is something defective about this VERY expensive refrigerator. It builds up ice on the back refrigerator wall rendering 2 bins useless since it freezes the fresh food. If I turn down the freezer temperature down, ice cream turns to mush, so that is not an option. I have contacted KitchenAid over this situation years ago and all they do is send out a contracted appliance company to troubleshoot. You are responsible for paying for the troubleshoot and since I am not on warranty, I must pay for repairs. After the appliance company charges exorbitant fees, they say it is a bad baffle, and a new one is installed. I have done this 2x now, and the problem is still there. I am living with the ice build up as replacing these built ins costs almost $10,000. I wish I had paid more at the time for a Subzero. I had one for 20 years and NEVER a problem.

Bought a Double Over, Dishwasher, and 42" Built In Refrigerator, all KitchenAid to match replacing 10+ year old GE Monogram appliances. Thought I did the research required to make the best educated purchase on the market, decided on these as our local dealer had the best deal on all three. After a week, the refrigerator began to frost over in the upper area of the freezer section, all other areas seemed to work as described with no issues. We contacted KitchenAid Warranty for help. They sent out a warranty repair service company and after three attempts with help from their KitchenAid Tech Support Center, they could not repair the problem!
Our problems continues and during the final repair call the technician, stated that the Tech support people don't have a clue and that they've never seen this problem before. We we're told by KitchenAid Warranty Call Center that the warranty does not include replacement but is only good for repair service. We want the unit replaced, we didn't buy cheap. We bought what we thought was the best on the marker at the time based on what research we were able to do.
The refrigerator cost $9K, overall we spent $12K for all three appliances and now realize this was a huge mistake. The local dealer, Pacific Sales has told us we would be getting a replacement unit soon, nothing yet but we have faith as they seemed to know how to handle bad products sold. We also asked to talk to a KitchenAid representative wanting to express our concerns to a human being. We we're told by the Warranty KitchenAid call center that no one was available, that they were the only people we could talk to! This is the most frustrating event we've purchased as 10+ years ago we bought similar appliances from GE for a house we built in CO. We had no issues with what we purchased than compared to this experience. We now have a nightmare going on! If we did this current purchase all over again, we would have never bought KitchenAid, probably stick with GE or Sub Zero or for the money LG or Samsung! Why buy KitchenAid, they have no warranty with their built in products.

To top it all off, the service man snickered as he looked at our $5700 pro series oven as he was leaving and commented on how many issues they had and the parts are not available so off to the scrap yard. Our KitchenAid refrigerator has had a host of issues since we bought it. The main current issue is ice buildup at the bottom of the freezer, which has created huge puddles that have warped our wood floor. The issue is a plugged defrost drain line. KitchenAid knows about this issue, as there is a published workaround and a new part to replace the too narrow, easily plugged drain line. I haven't bothered to call them because it's out of warranty, and they are sticklers for their 1-year warranty.
Also about 9 months after I bought it, I noticed rust starting on the stainless steel door. It was caused by a faulty heating unit in the French doors, which was causing moisture buildup along the inside of the doors. KitchenAid sent a tech out to fix it for free. BUT the rust was not covered by warranty at all (There's a 30-day warranty for "cosmetic" issues, never mind that the cosmetic issue was caused by an equipment failure).

22.6 ft counter-depth model ksc23c8eyy02 - We've had this fridge for over a year and after the third service call, should have sent it back as a lemon. We bought a Kitchen Aid because the one we were replacing is a 17-year-old Kitchen Aid SuperBa that's now in our garage, still working. Number of service calls in past year: 3, soon to be 4. We bought a Lowe's extended warranty so I have only been dealing with Lowe's contract service, not KitchenAid. I have no complaints about KitchenAid service, just the quality of their product.
Pros: I gave it an extra star because it's so pretty. Cool functionality, easy to keep clean. Stainless surface will hold magnets, too.
Cons: Ice maker has only worked twice. Ice freezes into a large block since it's on the door. We buy ice and pour it in, but the ice dispenser freezes up and does not dispense at all. Lowe's contracted service technicians replaced the ice maker at 5 months after purchase and it worked for about a month before it stopped making ice again. I have not had time to call and take a day off work for yet another service call. Water dispenser doesn't work unless fridge temp is set above 40 F. The technician explained that the engineering is such that the water line is too close to the coils as it passes through the fridge and it freezes. So, the water line freezes and does not work unless you keep the fridge above 40F (and then the milk goes bad before the date during the summer months). The doors are not balanced or smooth in closing and the freezer door has been left a crack open several times because you have to push it to make sure it's closed. They have been here to adjust the doors at least twice.
I am so very disappointed in this fridge. I have many Kitchen Aid appliances and was always willing to pay extra for the quality, but I didn't get that this time.

I am very disappointed and frustrated with KitchenAid customer service. We purchased a $2,300 KitchenAid refrigerator on 6/21/13 and after 10 months of use, it started leaking and making really loud noises. Our freezer does not work. Our ice dispenser does not work. The water tastes bad. Water leaking on the floor has warped our wood floors and we have had to discard meat, ice cream and other frozen food. When we contacted KitchenAid about our defective refrigerator, we were told to make an appointment with Dan Marc.
Dan Marc came out for the first time in May, 2014. I took off from work and waited for the repair technician. When he inspected the refrigerator, he said that it was the ice maker compartment. He advised that the ice maker wasn't sealing and warm air was getting in, but that KitchenAid had fixed the sealing issue. He advised that he would order the replacement parts and that it would take care of the problem.
A week later, Dan Marc finally rescheduled for 6/9/14. My husband took the day off from work and at 7:30 a.m., Dan Marc cancelled the appointment. I contacted KitchenAid to advise of the customer care offered by Dan Marc, as we were unhappy with them cancelling on the morning of the appointment and the fact that I have an unusable refrigerator. I was advised by KitchenAid that we would have to wait on Dan Marc.
On 6/10/14, a different repair technician came to the house and installed 3 replacement parts. He installed 2 replacement parts on the ice maker and 1 on the deli drawer. I took the day off from work and the repair technician took about 2 hours. He again said that the problem was fixed and that the replacement parts would take care of everything. He advised that there was a problem with the original parts, as they did not seal properly. Because it did not seal, warm air got into the ice maker, causing the leakage and host of issues. He advised that KitchenAid was aware of the problem and had taken care of the problem in the replacement parts.
On 6/10/14 and 6/11/14, the refrigerator continued to leak water all over, and the freezer and ice dispenser continued to not work. I again contacted KitchenAid and was told that Dan Marc would have to come back out again to my house. As frustrated as I was, I again contacted Dan Marc and made an appointment for the next day. On 6/12/14, Dan Marc sent a specialist to my house. I again had to take off from work and waited for the technician. The technician told me that it is the compressor. He advised that he would have to flush out the system and install a new compressor and evaporator. He said that the job would take a minimum of 4 to 5 hours. He also advised that there would be no guarantee that it would work properly with a new compressor and evaporator, as oil and gases were sucked in. He also said that these refrigerators should last about 10 years and not 10 months.
On 6/19/14, a specialist from Dan Marc came to my house and replaced the compressor and evaporator. I had to take the day off from work and he was there for 5 hours. So, the problems continue - Water leaks everywhere in the fridge. Water leaks from ice dispenser. Freezer does not freeze properly. We again contacted KitchenAid and now they are sending Morris County Appliance to my house. On 7/8/14, Morris County Appliance came to my house. They said that there is a seal system issue and that compressor overheats. They do not believe fridge can be fixed. On 7/10/14, KitchenAid is forcing us to allow Morris County Appliance to replace more parts.
We are clearly frustrated and need a solution from KitchenAid. We do not want a defective refrigerator, as we clearly paid for a brand new, $2,300 refrigerator. We now have a refrigerator with replacement parts and cannot continue to add replacement parts to a clearly defective refrigerator. KitchenAid was clearly aware that the seals on the ice maker compartment were bad, as the replacement parts were modified and have different seals. Knowing that there was an issue with their product, KitchenAid sold me a defective refrigerator and is not willing to stand behind its product. The refrigerator has clearly failed to meet expectations and it is unacceptable for me to have to keep a defective product. The refrigerator has repeatedly failed to meet the standards of quality and performance.
I have not been able to use my freezer, have any ice made or drink any water for almost a month and KitchenAid wants to add another Band Aid, by adding more replacement parts. It is unacceptable for me to keep taking off from work and to wait at home for countless hours, when the refrigerator was clearly defective when I purchased it. In addition, the water leaking from the refrigerator has warped our wood floors and I've had to discard bags of food. I am clearly stuck with a lemon and KitchenAid refuses to replace their refrigerator.

We had to put it in vacation mode every time we left the house otherwise we risked wrecking out expensive hardwood floor. After about a month, the part arrived (they replaced the main CPU) it was repaired. That lasted about 4 months then it began randomly puking ice on to the floor again. They sent out another CPU and the front screen and said that would fix it. In the meantime, the ice dispenser stopped working as well as the main freezer compartment. We lost all of the meat in our freezer (roughly $1000 worth).
Our fridge has been down for almost 2 months now and now they tell us the fridge has to be gutted. It has a system seal leak which cannot be fixed on site. Our fridge will be sent out for repair and we will be without a fridge for 4-6 weeks. They offered $100 for us to purchase a small fridge to "get us by"! What a crock. Since I had been chopping ice sheets from the bottom of the fridge for weeks to prevent flooding, I agreed. When the repairman arrived with the replacement part, he knew the exact problem since the part which took the excess moisture in the fridge to the evaporation tray clogs - he explained it was too narrow. I was offered a part with a much wider diameter, although he explained it would work best with the old part out and no replacement. When I phoned KitchenAid back to receive compensation for the $91 service call - the problem is in the design. Within 18 months, the ice maker stopped working in the new one. We didn't replace it right away and we just used the ice from our other one, which was now in our basement as a second refrigerator. We finally had a new ice maker installed in July 2009 at a cost of $200, parts plus labor. Again, 18 months later (with a 1 year warranty), the ice maker stopped working. We went 2 more years without fixing it but finally did on February 27, 2013 at a cost of $242 when we needed it for a large family gathering. It broke again last week, June 20, 2014. 1 year and not even 4 months from the install date.
It was suggested by the repair company that there may be a recall and I should call KitchenAid myself. After speaking to a customer service rep and then her supervisor, I was told they only warranty it for a year. Period. I explained that there was obviously a defect in my refrigerator, but that didn't seem to matter. They would have a service person come out for the usual fee. Although it did take longer than I hoped to have them come out, but thank goodness we think the problem is fixed, thanks to a great serviceman from A&E. He was an older repairman, and I give credit to that. He seemed very experienced and it was fixed within one and a half hour. After I read all the reviews before he came I was very discouraged, but he explained what the problem was and it sure makes sense. When he came, he removed the panel, defrosted all the ice and blew air through the drainage hose. Once the drainage hose was cleaned out, we found in the drain pan a plug of vegetables (frozen kale) He explained that this must have fallen on the bottom of the freezer, ended up in the drainage hose and plugged it up.
Once it was all cleaned up, we have not had a problem. So what is of great importance in the future is that a person does not let pieces of vegetables fall into the bottom of the freezer. Because it might get stuck again into the drainage hose. I hope I have saved other owners from this misery and maybe prevent you from the same problem we had.

I purchased this 36" built-in side by side in 6/06 with the thought that it would be a good refrigerator --I couldn't be more wrong!! At 3 years, we started having problems. So far repairs include a new circuit board, hinge repairs, evaporator, drier, compressor and fan motor, and an ugly repair kit to cover up the burned area that runs the full length - top to bottom - on the front panel between the freezer and refrigerator doors that happened because KitchenAid didn't put a big enough fan motor in. And here again, it is leaking Freon, so the entire refrigerator has to be gutted again to replace the evaporator, compressor, heat loop and? KitchenAid will cover the parts at an approx. cost of $800-$1000, this type of sealed system is covered for 12 years. The labor, however, is out of my pocket at $2,000.
One of the repair techs told me these type of sealed systems "RARELY" go bad which is why KitchenAid backs them up for so long. Go figure!! And, did I mention the cost of food spoilage!! GRAVELY DISAPPOINTED IN KITCHENAID!!! Oh, and I need to mention the KitchenAid convection oven that had to be replaced early on (under warranty) and the microwave oven that was replaced 3 times and after that I put up with door that didn't quite and still doesn't fit quite right. GRAVELY DISAPPOINTED IN KITCHENAID!!!! WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER -- even with the discount they are happily giving me to buy another $8,000 refrigerator!!

Our kitchen aid refrigerator is just over 5 years old and of course like clockwork, it stopped working. We've been told that K will pay for a new compressor but the labor will cost $1050. Could that be any more exploitative? When the tech guy was here, he said the labor would be $600 and the part $400...now they changed it to look like they're being cooperative by saying they're paying for the compressor but the price is still outrageous because they say the labor is $1050. I offered to pay half of the labor but the answer is no, of course. Really horrible company and product....never again.

We purchased a KitchenAid side by side refrigerator in 2007. It recently began having problems keeping the freezer temperature constant. A repair company came out and indicated that the problem was that we need a new "main contact" (part number W10219463) but KitchenAid (manufactured by Whirlpool) has discontinued the part. So, we are told we need a new refrigerator. Aside from the fact that it is environmentally irresponsible for refrigerators to have the shelf life of a disposable cell phone, thus resulting in landfills being filled with major appliances built to fail and be discarded rather than repaired, it is also outrageous for a company to discontinue parts in this way.
I tried to contact the company using their website, but the system would not accept my message (the website seems to work as well as my refrigerator). I sat on hold on their corporate consumer line for 45 minutes but never got through to a person. I highly recommend that people avoid purchasing any refrigerator manufactured by Whirlpool (which manufactures KitchenAid, JennAir and Whirlpool refrigerators). It likely won't last and it won't be repairable.

We ended up just not worrying about it and moved on. 4 months later, it will not cool at all. It's 75 degrees inside the unit. The repair men have been to our house a total of 9 times and the unit is still not fixed. Do yourself a favor and buy ANYTHING but a Whirlpool or Kitchen Aid product... the worst customer service I have ever seen. This shiny, expensive bells 'n whistles model replaced a new and very similar Whirlpool which lasted only 6 days before dropping dead. Repair parts were several days away and we were w/o a reefer. Retailer (Lowe’s) very kindly stepped in and arranged this replacement which was actually a slight upgrade and delivered it the very next day. Looked great until the next morning when it seemed that ice maker wasn't working correctly. Within a day and a half the ice maker required service. It was leaking and freezing all over inside the door and top of reefer interior. This resulted in two service visits before a "heater kit" had to be installed (factory told repair tech it should have been installed at factory). Following this, continued leaks until new seals were installed.
Now, 10 1/2 months later freezer quits. Service tech comes, advises this acts exactly like a "service flash" they received. Performs a number of diagnostic tests and calls KitchenAid as the service bulletin does not offer any fix only says to "call for special instructions". Those special instructions were to give me a case number and 'Customer Assist' telephone number. He was told by KA there was nothing he could do - that the matter was being submitted for review and disposition. Meanwhile no freezer and water gushing forth onto kitchen floor from dead freezer/ice maker.
I call the number provided and am told that the 'team' would be reviewing the matter and it could take five (5) business days for a decision as to whether it would be repaired or replaced. This being totally unacceptable I was referred to a supervisor who told me there was "no way to expedite the process". I told her that five days was totally unacceptable for a replacement decision and then comes the kicker... The five days is only for the decision, if approved by the 'team' any replacement will take an additional 10-14 days!
In the meantime I have no working freezer and the refrigerator side, while working, is much warmer than optimal temp settings and compressor is making significant noise. Until this venture we have always had Whirlpool/KitchenAid appliances for 42+ years of marriage save for a short stint with a GE reefer that wasn't our choice. TEST QUESTIONS: Do you think we'll ever buy anything from KitchenAid/Whirlpool again? (Oh, and did I mention this year we plan to upgrade range, microwave and dishwasher?) Is it any wonder foreign appliances are flooding the market in a country where "Made in the U.S.A." once meant quality, longevity and outstanding customer service?

This week after numerous service calls we replaced the dishwasher with a Maytag. Your dishwasher did not clean dishes from day one. We suffered for 9 years. The paint and I stress PAINT on the stainless steel microwave wore off the handle after a year. The range has needed the control panel replaced 4 times. The off button fails every 2 years. The ice maker has been replaced 4 times. The last time the tech told us we had the freezer set too cold. Can you imagine? A freezer, too cold? There were many other service issues that I will not mention because I consider them normal wear and tear. These totaled about $1000 over 9 years, which I think is acceptable. The cost for the unacceptable repairs is in excess of $3500.

My built-in side-by-side stopped cooling almost a MONTH ago. I did call a highly rated Yelp repair company but they were honest and said that since it was still under limited warranty I should work directly with KitchenAid. Let me keep it short... It's ugly. KitchenAid is deliberately slowing down service and forcing me to work with someone who has terrible Yelp ratings. In fact I have spent $1,000 with this company and even though he claims to be able to diagnose the issues - KitchenAid tech backs him up - as of today my unit is having the same exact issue. We have replaced a heating coil that required 6 hours of labor (KitchenAid confirmed) and a compressor.
I called another service company who indicated it is a simple problem that can be fixed easily. When I called KitchenAid and explained this, the customer service guy actually fought with me...refused to speak to me any further unless I gave him the phone number and name of the other company. They were so concerned that one of their "authorized" repair companies was questioned that they tried to intimidate me into thinking I was going to lose support. Bottom line - I asked for a supervisor and she was understanding. I begged her to send different service company but she refused.
As I write this, my $12,000 refrigerator/freezer is not working, despite KitchenAid forcing me to spend $1,000 with their service person. It also still sounds like the engine from a small commercial plane, even though prior to that it was so silent. And no refrigeration still. And guess what? My service repair person will not call me back. KitchenAid is clearly trying to stall until warranty runs out. I will never buy another one of their products. I've attached a couple of pictures to show what I mean. The shelf above the two crisper drawers seems to be missing a middle support? Because as soon as you put any items on it, it really sags in the middle. You can see the glass shelf separating from its white plastic rim and then gap between two crisper drawers getting wider at the bottom. Are we missing a piece or is there anyway to fix this? It seems such an obvious flaw. Trail's response: I have checked both units on the floor and neither have a little support... so sorry... It does seem odd that it does not though.
My last email to Trail: "So what are our options? I must say every time I open the fridge door - what I see (that sagging shelf) is unacceptable. I thought we were upgrading our 17 year old appliances - but it appears not, and I'm sure that anyone else who has bought this fridge would be experiencing the same issue. Where do they stand on selling crap (pardon the harsh language) like this? Suggestions?" Waiting on response to this last email - but would NOT recommend buying this fridge for this reason.

Bought a KitchenAid KFIS29BBMS00 refrigerator like many other gullible consumers. I'm now going on my 10th service call. Stanton's in Baton Rouge is part of the problem, but the KitchenAid product is a huge mis-design. We had a water leak when the unit was brand new. Then the control board went out. Then, believe it or not, they had to install a heater on the ice maker outlet to prevent condensation... wow. Then the evaporator started leaking. Now the unit is not cooling again. This latest service guy comes out and says it's the same evaporator leak issue... but we'll see when he replaces it. So, we figure that we have not had the refrigerator in operation for several weeks since it was purchased in Dec. 2012. Like many others, this has resulted in loss of food and days away from work to let the serviceman in. Of course now it's out of warranty, but thankfully we did purchase an extended warranty.
KitchenAid service department was of no use. We called them repeatedly and after the 8th service visit demanding a new unit. They were sorry to hear of the problems but would always want to see if the next fix would take care of the problem. I'm sure this is all a calculated ploy they use to get through the warranty period. Well, we have until 2017 on the extended warranty and expect many more service calls. KitchenAid's poor design and the retailer's poor servicemen make a scary combination that will cost an unwary customer a fortune. Power Off/On from the panel, or on the physical switch did not make the flashing go away. This lasted for about a month before it produced chirping sound every 5 seconds. Four days after the chirping sound appeared, my food started to be not cool any more (The freezer side was still okay, and the foods in the drawers were not as warm as the ones on the shelves).
Anyway, I ordered the Repair+1 plan from KitchenAid (actually it was Whirlpool), and they sent ASI to come the next day. The engineer from ASI was very good. In less than an hour, he replaced the control board, and I have cold food (and lots of ice from ice maker!) that night. All in all, I only lost two days use of the refrigerator, plus the cost of the plan (~ $400). In over two years, KitchenAid has not obtained a US based company to make these replacement boards. They have to be mailed to a company that "rebuilds" the boards and it takes at least two weeks before the repaired board is returned. This is the worst and most shameful business practice I have ever heard of from a world wide company.
I have the KitchenAid Extended Warranty, but a loaner is NOT part of your KitchenAid warranty. And you are supposed to be perfectly happy going without a refrigerator for over two weeks. I purchased the KitchenAid built in wall oven, convection oven/microwave combo at the same time, along with a top of the line KitchenAid dishwasher. After spending more than $8000 on this suite, I can't wait for the non-existent circuit boards to go out on these other appliances. My husband wanted to buy the Samsung refrigerator, but I insisted on buying American made since the US was in the middle of the Great Recession.

I moved into a house with a KitchenAid 42 built-in side-by-side refrigerator. In Sept. 2013, the ice maker stopped working. A reputable repair company told me the cause was one circuit board. They determined the board was no longer made by KitchenAid, and if a third party board repair company couldn't fix it, the fridge couldn't be fixed. A complete fridge replacement would be about $7,000!
The good news: I then uncovered an extended warranty bought by the prior owner. The fridge was purchased Jan 2009, and extended warranty ending Jan 2014. Mercifully, the warranty company transferred the warranty to me, with 3 months left before expiring. The prior owner bought the fridge and warranty from a high touch, full price appliance store. Turned out the people who do the warranty company's repair are the people at this appliance store who told the same story as the earlier repair company. They sent the offending board to a board repair company and meanwhile supplied a loaner fridge as without that circuit board not only did ice maker not work, the entire fridge didn't work. Board repair company returned it a few weeks later, saying it was unrepairable. Now the warranty company had to replace the refrigerator, so they are actually the big losers, not me.
Everyone involved tells me its not unusual for a 4-year-old $7,000 refrigerator to fail and be unrepairable after 4.75 years, regardless of the brand, apparently because appliance manufacturers haven't placed importance on reliability of electronics. The problem is not specific to KitchenAid. In selecting the replacement fridge, I discovered that parent company Whirlpool owns, among others, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Maytag and Amana. In the store, these brands are obviously the same fridge with minor differences in door and shelf decor. My conclusions after all this:
1) There should be some law requiring Whirlpool (and its several brands) to make it possible to buy parts, including electronics, for at least 10 years, for a $7,000 fridge. Today, Whirlpool stops making some board replacements 4.75 years after manufacturing the unit. Meantime, there's some opportunity here for entrepreneurs who can figure out how to acquire and stock working boards for whatever Whirlpool and its brands are manufacturing now.2) $7,000 Built-ins are a particular ripoff: for about $2,000 one can buy an almost-as-large free standing counter-depth fridge. A few years from now, it would be lot less painful to lose $2,000 compared to spending $7,000 on a replacement.
3) I've never bought extended warranties in the past, but an extended warranty saved me. For expensive kitchen appliances with significant electronics, I now buy extended warranties.
4) Full-price full-service family-owned appliance stores (where they exist) offer more value than I ever appreciated. They held my hand through the whole process, I always had a working fridge, and they helped get an excellent settlement from the warranty company that they recommended when the fridge was purchased.

Our 7 year old KitchenAid Kss42QMSO1 side by side started chirping, the internal control panel lights were flashing and we could not adjust or control the temperature using the buttons. I first called the Kitchen Aid" HELP LINE" (that is an oxymoron). Talking to the fridge would have been just as helpful and all they were interested in doing was dispatching a service man, when he showed up we were advised that it was the control board # W 10219463 that had failed. When I asked the cost to replace it he advised that it was no longer available because the factory in Japan had been destroyed by the Tsunami. This was two years ago, and this huge company had done nothing to create a new supply?? Can you imagine Toyota or Sony using that excuse?
Our only option was to send the control board to Chicago for repair and have the fridge / freezer out of commission for 3 to 4 weeks, also we had to sign some kind of a liability waiver. I thanked the service man and advised I would get back to him, then I started to surf the net and after some time I came across this web site and thankfully the blog from Chris in North Van. I live in White Rock and if I knew your address I would drop off a very good bottle of wine on my way to Whistler. Thank you, after reading your info I asked the service man to come back and remove the board. However he said he was prevented by Whirlpool / Kitchen Aid from doing this unless it was sent to Chicago.
I contacted another excellent service man who is independent and had him do the removal. I would say unless you are very mechanical you would be better to go this route. He also advised that it was often the evaporator fan that caused the circuit board malfunction. Once it was removed I found it to be exactly as per the photo from Chris. I was able to locate the capacitor from SMI Industrial Electronics in the nearby suburb of Langley, it is a "22ouf 10X12 HI TEMP CAPACITOR 85 o" and cost the princely sum of 36 cents (I even purchased a spare). I then took this to an electronics repair man who tested and removed the defective capacitor and installed the new one in less than 5 minutes, he would not even accept any payment.
I would advise that unless you are used to working on circuit boards and have a very fine tipped soldering iron I would use an expert, even if he charges you. It would be easy to short out the wires with too much solder. I took this home and the service man came back and installed the circuit board and a new evaporator fan which for some reason is a stock item and in about 1/2 hour the fridge was humming, no chirping and we were able to set the freezer for 0 F and the fridge for 37 F. The temperatures both initially read the 70 F air temp. but started to fall quickly and a few hours later we heard the first ice being made and everything is working just fine. Our total bill including the fan was $260.00.
Thanks again Chris, and like you I am amazed that the so-called help line would not advise of this. I am fairly certain our first service man knew of this option because when I told him about the info from Chris he was not the least bit surprised. He probably would be blacklisted if he went against the company's policies. Good Luck!

On January 14, service came back, installed part and that was not problem, had to order another another part. January 22 came, installed part, didn't work, said had to order another part. January 29 returned installed another part, still didn't work, said that new part installed was defective, had to order another part. On January 30, I called KitchenAid and stated that I wanted a different repair person and they would not do so because their repair service are qualified technicians.
January 31, installed yet another part, didn't work and said it was unserviceable and wouldn't come back and refrigerator had to be replaced. KitchenAid said they would not replace but wanted to get another opinion. February 6, 2nd company came out and wanted to order more parts. In the meantime, we have Four children and have been LEFT WITHOUT A REFRIGERATOR for excessive amount of time. Never seen service like this before. Just contacted KitchenAid because upon dealing with another issue in the freezer, I found these rusty screws in the ice maker. I explained to both the Rep and the supervisor (Chris), that it didn't matter if the refrigerator was 2 or 10 years old, the screws that touch my food should not rust. Basically they told me tuff **. So, a unit that is $70 my cost (much less for them), is apparently too much for them to stand by their product and my health. Therefore, I am sharing this on social media and consumer sites.

Bought a very nice KitchenAid refrigerator less than a year ago, was one of the better models (KFIS29PBMS00) and today it is repairable but according to the warranty service technician, it would be cheaper to replace it but that will take 5 BUSINESS days. WHAT? Surely that is a joke, this company makes good products and I thought would stand behind their warranty as in replacing something quickly. In 5 Business days when THEY make a decision, all my food will be spoiled ($600 down the drain). If they know they have an issue, and my issue is known, and they determine it is best to replace the appliance, why in HELL does it take 5 business days to make that decision? Obviously there is an issue with this model.
Do yourself a favor, find a different brand, or expect any issues that are essentially recalls to take 5 business days to decide upon and who knows how much longer to actually get appliance in house. I have called them 3 times, and no remedy. Just the standard it takes 5 business days to go before a review board... WTF? That is BS. We should have bought the Sub Zero. KitchenAid has gone the way of any other use to be good product.
The customer service rep thought it comical that I would get on the social media sites and provide this information. If you are in the habit of spending 3K for a throw away item and like to buy new major products every year, this is the one for you. For the rest of us, run and find something else and make sure the company will actually do as they claim on the warrant in a reasonable time frame.
The issue is a known problem with the compressor that causes a leak of refrigerant over time. The company has determined it is cheaper for them to replace the product rather than fix it with proper materials. Yet, they take 5 business days to make this determination? If it is a known issue with all the same error codes and profiles of the same problem, the right thing to do is to apologize to the customer and ask them when they are available to receive the replacement. Now I am out $600+ on food.

My counter depth KitchenAid refrigerator can't be repaired just 2 years after I bought it new. The power supply board I need is no longer available and Whirlpool couldn't care less. They claim there is a 12-year warranty but the electronic part I need is only warranted for 1 year. Therefore why bother having a 12-year warranty if the part you need can't be purchased. Therefore the effective warranty is only ONE YEAR. This is a $7,000 paperweight now. No one should purchase anything made by this company.

I thought I was buying a quality product when I purchased my side by side KSF26C7XYY00 refrigerator. The refrigerator I had was very old and not cooling. Since I was renovating my kitchen, what better than to purchase a quality product like KitchenAid... Unfortunately that was not the case! After six months to the day, the freezer stopped working. I had to throw everything away the day before Christmas. Knowing no one would be taking calls on Christmas I waited a couple of days. In the meantime, the refrigerator side stopped cooling as well.
I called the KitchenAid customer service line to go through the proper procedures and protocol for the warranty. The service guy came out on Dec. 28 and told me he did not know how to fix it and he would order the parts. Several days pass. I had to call them to find out where the parts were only find that they had no idea. There was a new tracking system and they could not track the parts in transit. After a week and a half and after speaking with one of KitchenAid's corporate reps and some emails to the Brand Experience Senior Manager they finally agreed to replace the refrigerator.
You would think this would be a good thing however they had to order it and it would take 7-10 days. After calling the delivery company I found that they had had the refrigerator and no information on who it belonged to, yet no one investigated this. I received the new replacement refrigerator on Jan. 20. Now, you would think that the saga would be over, but no. After nearly ONE MONTH without a refrigerator, the new refrigerator does not work! The freezer is not freezing and the refrigerator side is only slightly cool compared to the 37 degrees that it is supposed to be according to the manual.
I called KitchenAid only to have the customer service person tell me I needed to make an appointment for a service call. At this point I am beyond frustrated and I would like to get my money back so I can buy something that works. I can't afford to replace food or eat out daily. I will NEVER buy KitchenAid or any of their affiliates again and will advise everyone I know and work with (the 9th largest school district in the US) of the same.

Our compressor is broken on our refrigerator. The tech who came to repair it said the problem is that it's a faulty compressor. This happens frequently, he said, and the company that made the faulty compressors that used to go into KitchenAid refrigerators went out of business a few years ago. One would think that if KitchenAid was using a part that it knew to be faulty it could at least give a discount on parts and/or labor when the part fails. Considering the cost of refrigerators today, it's very disappointing that KitchenAid would allow customers to be charged an arm and a leg to replace a sub-par part.

Advised to do a complete defrost for 8 hours - did so - still leaked. Had vendor send repairman. He replaced part, which is apparently a recent change of this defrost process, developed because of so many having this leakage problem. This provided solution... for about 3 weeks.

We want to thank Chris from B.C. who posted detailed instructions for repairing the electronic control board for Kitchen Aid refrigerators. Our 5 y.o. premium cabinet depth Kitchen Aid model #KBFC42FTS02 had the same problem that Chris described (constant alarm chirping, flashing lights on control panel), but our fridge was still cold. The Kitchen Aid affiliated repair service (contracted by KitchenAid/Whirlpool) told us that the electronic control board needed to be replaced. However, they claimed that the factory which manufactured the parts in Japan had been destroyed by the tsunami and no more parts were being made. Further, I called the KitchenAid parts service line on their webpage and that person (also a contracted service, not a KitchenAid/Whirlpool employee) told us that the date listed for availability of the part was 2020 (which he said meant that they had no plans to supply the part in the future)!
The repair service offered to take the part out (then we would have no working fridge) and send it out for repair, which could take up to 30 days - not a viable solution from our point of view. At the repairman's suggestion, we attempted to find a new or refurbished part online and were not successful. Obviously, lots of other folks are having the same problem with their KitchenAid/Whirlpool appliances.
Before Christmas, reluctantly we schedule a repair visit to have the part removed and sent for repair. The repair service never showed, despite their assurances that a repairman was delayed but was on his way! After that, we were reluctant to trust them with the "brains" of our expensive refrigerator. After Christmas, we found Chris' blog of 12/28/13, with his description of the parts we would need to repair the control board ourselves and detailed instructions. We were able to make the repairs and our refrigerator is now working. Our cost was under $20. Thanks, Chris - this was a welcome holiday gift! We can't believe how callous KitchenAid/Whirlpool have been in abandoning their customers. We will never buy another product from their company.

We own a seven year old KitchenAid side by side fridge (model # KSCS25FSMS00). Recently, the fridge starting beeping or chirping like a bird, the control panel inside the fridge started flashing intermittently and none of the temperature controls had any effect on the fridge or freezer temperature. Also the evaporator motor would start and stop unexpectedly causing the fridge to get warm due to the lack of cold airflow from the freezer. We had two separate repairman come and both told us the main control board failed and needed to be replaced. Of course, we were surprised and disappointed given the age and condition of the fridge but we told the second repairman to replace it. He told us this part wasn't available anymore so he couldn't order it or fix the fridge! We started to look on the internet and quickly found that this particular control board part number W10219463 is installed in over 300 different Jenn Air, Whirlpool and KitchenAid fridges sold in the last 10 years but is no longer available by the manufacturer. Absolutely ridiculous.
After spending the better part of a whole Saturday looking online and calling appliance and parts supply stores all over North America, I concluded that this part number is not available anywhere new, used or refurbished. I'm not sure what we supposed to do for those 2 or 3 weeks so this option didn't work. The only option I was given by anyone I spoke with was to remove my control board and send to a company called CSC who would repair and return my control board for about $300 in about 2 or 3 weeks. I did find a brand new replacement control board on eBay for $899 but this didn't seem like an option either. More web research was required.
I found a blog where another KitchenAid owner was having the same problem with his fridge and took his control board to a local electronics repair company in his area. It turned out the common problem with this control board is centered on one particular capacitor on the board that costs $1.85 at Radio Shack. After reading his blog I figured out what part needed replacing, purchased the capacitor and replaced myself in my kitchen in about 15 min. After reinstalling the control board, my fridge has worked perfectly since the repair. No chirping, no flashing temperature controls, the evaporator motor works fine and both the fridge and freezer are cooled to the temperature we select on the temperature controls. Although we are happy the problem has been resolved, we are wildly outraged at how Whirlpool/KitchenAid are leaving consumers like us stranded and left with either disposing of an expensive $3000 or $5000 high end fridge or remove the control board and send it away for weeks to get repaired. There is absolutely no support provided by the manufacturer.
My intention with this post isn't to build support for class action lawsuits or the like but rather to share my experience and fix so that others who are experiencing the same symptoms with their fridge and have the same control board can fix it themselves. It's easy to do and if nothing else, it's worth a shot. You will need the following supplies to complete this repair - a 220uf 35V capacitor, a basic soldering iron and just tiny bit of solder for the new capacitor all of which cost me $14.67 at a local electronics supply store. Here are the steps:
1. If you're reading this then you already know you have this control board installed in your fridge - W10219463.2. Confirm the location of your control board as it varies by model. My side by side unit had the control board in a metal case or box in the bottom left corner facing the back of the fridge. I actually had to remove the gray condenser control box in order to remove the control board unit. Parts diagrams for your model can be found at the following site Searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect.
3. Unplug the fridge and remove the metal panel on the back of the fridge where the compressor unit and control board are located but again confirm the exact location of the control board on your model.
4. Remove the control board box and unplug all the connectors to the control board.
5. Carefully remove the control board from the metal box.
6. The capacitor on the control board which is the root of the problem is circled on picture below. It is a 220uf 35V capacitor that you can buy at Radio Shack (pn 272-1029) or any electronics supply store. You can inspect the capacitor and you may notice it is either split or bulging.
7. You will need to desolder or remove the capacitor circled on the picture below by desoldering the capacitor off the board. It's a bit tricky but patience will pay off. Make sure to note the orientation of the capacitor when you remove it so you can make sure you install the new capacitor correctly.
8. Once you get the old capacitor off the board, trim the wires on the new capacitor to a length common to the other components on the control board.
9. Install the new capacitor and solder the points on the underside of the control board. You don't need much solder here.
10. Reinstall the control board in the control board box, reconnect the plugs/connections, etc...
11. Plug your fridge in and check the control panel and temperature controls. If the fix worked, the chirping sound will be be gone, the fans and motors should be working and within a few hours your fridge and freezer temperatures should be back to normal.
I sincerely hope this fix works for as many people as possible. I can't believe the level of frustration this problem has caused so many people and my wife and I are so disappointed that the appliance repair companies, the manufacturer and the variety of people we spoke with over the few weeks we tried to find a solution never suggested this very simple fix. Good luck. It's easy to do and I hope it works for you like it worked for us.

Now it is Christmas Eve and the refrigerator is not cooling. I am having 22 people to dinner on Christmas. The repair man came and told me that it needs a new compressor. To make matters worse... it needs to be ordered. A 6 month old refrigerator should not need a new compressor! Obviously, it is a lemon. Called Customer Service. Apparently, KitchenAid has no customer service. I requested a new refrigerator because I do not want to keep fixing a defective product. What happens when the warranty runs out? Spoke to a CSR and her supervisor. Just kept reciting the script. Under my warranty... the compressor is a replaceable part so I can not get a new refrigerator. I know that the CEO Jeff Fettic wouldn't want the repaired defective refrigerator either!
So then I asked KitchenAid to find a compressor and install it so I can host the XMAS dinner. I was told that is not possible. Best they could do was overnight it and since tomorrow is Christmas, the part would not be shipped until Thursday. KitchenAid is not only ruining my Christmas dinner but it sounds like I won't have a working refrigerator for a while. Not even sure if they really are having the part overnighted. Bottom line.... KitchenAid does not care about a customer once you buy their products. No effort on their part, no matter what the circumstances! I am up the creek regarding my Christmas Dinner and they don't give a damn. Additionally, KitchenAid doesn't want to replace the refrigerator because they will get more money for all the parts the defective unit will need in the future. Kitchen Aid model KF1S27CXMS, 27CF DR bam REF ICE KA, purchased from Gerry Gerhard, one of the owners. It was delivered about a week later, thought everything was okay. My husband noticed that the doors were not lining up, so service from Gerhard's came out. First tech had no idea how to fix it so we scheduled another tech from Gerhard's to come out. This time he said not only the doors were off, the right door was dented, he said he would recommend another fridge.
So we had set up another date for a pick up and exchange. The next one was worse than the one we already had, so we scheduled another pick up and exchange. That also was damaged when it arrived at my house. So we called Jerry said we could pick out a different fridge but when we got there, he told us to travel to his Glenside store for a bigger selection. We picked out another brand but Jerry said it would be another $400.00 which we just couldn't afford, so we kept the original one with a $200.00 credit from Gerhard's.
Well about 2 months ago, the water and ice stopped working, so being under the warranty we were told to call Kitchen Aid and we were told to contact Quaker City which we did. The tech came out had to order a part, but in the meantime the fridge stopped being cold and the freezer quit. So Quaker City said food would stay good approx 48 hours. The part that was replaced didn't work so now there are 2 parts on order, and this was well before Thanksgiving!!!!!!! We had to throw all our food out! Our 5 year old KitchenAid 40" built in started getting condensation. We had bought an extended warranty on it because our old KitchenAid had 2 replaced compressors and finally the entire 48 inch stainless built in was replaced by KitchenAid. This was 15 years ago. Sadly, times have changed. They have no integrity, no honor, no respect. Part of the reason we actually bought another KitchenAid and got an extended warranty was because they did the right thing with us previously and we didn't want to be caught without a warranty again. Service man came up, reported what was wrong with our fridge to the warranty company. He pointed out to us that our entire right door was delaminating and we needed a new door - it won't entirely shut. Then pointed out that the actual plastic inside structure of the refrigerator had stress cracks!!!
They said their responsibility ends for their product after one year! Even though the refrigerator is defective and it IS their responsibility. The insurance company offered us just under $5000 for the appliance take it or leave it. Their exact words. Even though we live on an island and it will cost at least $500 to ship it here and the appliance itself costs roughly just under $10,000.00. We asked KitchenAid to at least HELP us as it was a relatively new and very expensive refrigerator - it should last more than 5 years. We feel we have a faulty product - there are only the two of us in our home and no one is hanging on the doors.
I offered to send them the $5000 if they would replace their faulty product. Under no circumstances would they help. I am disgusted by KitchenAid. They said that there is NO replacement for the stress fractured frame and that it is not covered by warranty or insurance. So if they know this.. why do they continue to make an appliance that is going to fail and one can do nothing about fixing?! I will never do business with KitchenAid again if I don't have to. I'm angry and feel very let down. To further frustrate this previously loyal customer w/ a total of 3 kitchenAid high end appliances, they won't let you speak to anyone other than a lackey in customer support and her manager!!!! That began a series of either new parts failing plus error on the part of the serviceman that caused our refrigerator to stop working and we have been without a refrigerator for 2 WEEKS!! The cost that we have incurred due to this (never mind the huge pain in the backside) is major. I called KitchenAid customer service and was told I had to send the control board to Illinois for repair which meant my refrigerator would not be operating for a week or more.
After spending hours online I found that Sears Parts Direct had a replacement control Board for my KitchenAid model which I ordered. By some miracle I was able to get the lights working by making an adjustment on the door hinges and the ice maker suddenly started to work. I returned the control board I received from Sears. What is interesting to me is the fact that I never received any response to my letter to Whirlpool senior management. In the letter I asked them 3 questions:
When and why did they make the decision to stop producing an integral component for a KitchenAid product causing major inconvenience and problems for consumers? Why does KitchenAid Parts online show this component as available when it is no longer made? Why would a Whirlpool control board be defective in a 5 year old product? (As stated above my control board was not the problem after all.) I also told them I had noted the number of KitchenAid product complaints on Consumeraffairs.com. The fact that I never received any kind of follow up shows Whirlpools total lack of integrity and concern for their customers. The JOKE is Whirlpool's Vision and Mission statements..... When I returned home from work the freezer was even warmer and the refrigerator was now moot cooling properly. I called Whirlpool again and they sent another serviceman Thursday. He said this thermistor is also faulty. He did not have one on hand some would have to order it and could possibly come back in a week.
I called Whirlpool and explained that I am without a refrigerator/freezer and that I didn't think this was right. They stated this was the best they could do. I asked what if they don't fix it the next trip. She stated they would come back until it was fixed. I reminded them that I would still be without a refrigerator. They said they felt bad but they could do nothing else. I am frustrated and feel that Whirlpool likes to sell appliances but they're not so good at fixing them and keeping the customer satisfied; probably my last whirlpool appliance. Beware, you may get a lemon and that Whirlpool is not customer-friendly. My loss.

In response to a part no longer made, we did our search on the internet when told the control board for our 17 year old built in was no longer available. That was after the original part was sent to be rebuilt and then lost. We found it, paid for the part ourselves, and had a repairman install. Worked like a charm for a couple of weeks, now not defrosting again. We have replaced all pertinent parts. Hmmm. The point of this is try on your own to find the part. It may very well be out there.

We have a 42" KitchenAid refrigerator and have had the Tech out 3 times for repair. We were told by the technician that the fan motor had shorted out and caused the main control board and another fan to go out. So 748.00 dollars later, we still have no refrigerator working and this is after the Tech removed the board and the fans and said the board is not being made and so it has to be sent out and rebuilt...should be 2 weeks. They would ship the product to us and then we call them and set up another appointment.
When the 3 items came couple of weeks later, the one fan that was a heavy metal blade is now being replaced with a thin...black plastic one. Note: when Tech opened the box, the fan was broken…one blade completely broken off and 2 other blades were cracked…Now mind you, a kid’s plastic toy can be thrown, dropped, kick and abused by the kids and not break, but this fan got all this damage just being shipped to us and this is supposed to run and operate my 9000.00 refrigerator?? The Tech said, “Well they changed to plastic because it is lighter." Are you kidding me? Lighter? Are we going to carry this refrigerator around?
No, it’s cheaper...and also a piece of junk...not even a heavy plastic. If it can't survive shipping, I have to wonder how it will run my refrigerator. Now the Tech puts all the parts in and tells us that will be 748.00+ and also we can buy a warranty to protect us from other repairs for 210.00…Did it and he left. 3 hours later, I decided to check it to see if I could start putting my foods in and if it was cold enough...Not working...flashing lights on the panel...from 60 to 30 and no ice maker working either. I called them back ASAP...they said we will make another appointment for you...Are you kidding? Send back the Tech.
After much discussion with the service people, they came back 4 days later...Tech says board is no good...has to be sent back to where it was re-built and he (Tech) spends most of the time on the phone with someone...telling him what to do (I guess). He states he has been with the company for 31 years but both times he is on the phone with someone most of the time. So now we are supposed to get the board back in a couple of weeks...and then call them again to have it installed. Meanwhile, they have received 748.00 plus 210.00 for the service warranty and I have nothing...no refrigerator for over a month.
This is unreal…like the product does not have enough problems...they change out the metal parts for these thin piece of crap plastic and control boards being shipped out to the customer without being tested to see if they were rebuilt right before they send it out to be installed. So I lose all our food and pay for a rental fridge while this mess is still going on...Service and Quality...RIGHT...I don't think these Tech's know what they are doing or why would they need to spend most of the time on the phone with whomever it is they are having walk them through this service...

Purchased a KitchenAid refrigerator Model #KBFS22EWMS7 in November, 2012 along with a 4 yr extended warranty with a price of $1800. The first week in October 2013, there was a big pool of water on the floor near the refrigerator. Pulled out the fridge thinking a hose had been punctured or a connection was loose. But no, that was not the case. All connections on the back of the fridge were dry.
Husband checked more thoroughly and could not find where the leak was coming from. Called the customer service number on the refrigerator user instructions and they set up an appointment with a service person. The service person came out on Friday, Oct. 18, 2013, checked all connections and pulled off panels and checked the back and could not find where the water was leaking. He confirmed there is a leak by seeing all the water on the floor, which looks like had been leaking for a while after seeing the edge of the wall with water damage and mold. But he could not find it and could not tell where it was coming from.
So he gave my husband a homework assignment to somehow keep a watch underneath the fridge to determine exactly where the leak is coming from. How about that for customer service!!!! Now after seeing all the similar complaints and issues with KitchenAid, I am so afraid that we are in store for a nightmare of our own!!!! Our current plan is to put some type of rubber mat on the floor underneath the fridge and somehow jack up the fridge a little to be able to see underneath to watch for the leak. This is very frustrating and wish now that I had gone with Maytag!!!!

In November 2011 I purchased two fridges - model KBLS22KWMS5 from a reputable firm. One of the fridges stopped working just before the end of the warranty and had to have the computer replaced. The second fridge stopped working just after the warranty period and is on its 4th computer and second damper. We have had to throw out a lot of spoiled food and pay to replace parts and I am now concerned that the condenser could be compromised. I contacted KitchenAid and talked to a contact center representative who said that she had no record of the issues.
I sent an email with all of the invoices and asked to speak to her supervisor and advised that I would like the fridge replaced or at a minimum to have the costs we have incurred reimbursed. The supervisor's response was that because they didn't have a copy of the invoices and the fridge was now working he couldn't do anything about it and that because it was outside of the warranty period, they would not replace or reimburse. I said that I had just sent the invoices as requested by the first representative and if he would give me his email address I would send them again to him directly so he could see them. He said he could not give out his work email address because it had his whole name on it.
He then suggested I might need a second opinion on the issues so I said I would be happy to have him send someone out for a second opinion at their cost. He then said that since the fridge was working there would be no point. I asked to speak to his supervisor and he said that there is no further escalation point and told me to have a nice day.

We purchased this KitchenAid refrigerator 2 years ago. The quality is amazingly poor. The flange on both crisper drawers broke during the first year. KitchenAid was kind enough to send replacements. Unfortunately they are the same design/same materials. Next the housing that covers the water filter broke off during the first filter change. Now, at two years, we have the plugged defroster drain that seems ubiquitous with these refrigerators.
We shut the refrigerator off for a day with a small space heater directed at the drain in an attempt to thaw the thing out. No luck. Water still leaks down into the bottom of the freezer and eventually drains onto the floor. We've had more problems with this unit than with every other refrigerator we've owned over the past 40 years - combined. Such a disappointment. KitchenAid use to make a quality product. Now their Kitchen products need constant Aid.

On August 13, 2012 we purchased a French door refrigerator made by Kitchen Aid. 10 months later we were seeing water running down the inside door from the ice maker. I called the company and they sent out technician to fix it who didn't seem like he knew what he was doing. He made several phone calls to ask questions about the repair. After he left my refrigerator was working properly so I was satisfied. Meanwhile, my neighbors were looking to get a new refrigerator and loved the look of mine so they purchased the same model. Months later my neighbor called me complaining of water leaking from her ice maker. They had to have it repaired but then a couple months later she told me their freezer stopped working and they lost hundreds of dollars of food. She called Kitchen Aid to come repair it for a second time.
My husband and I went on vacation and we returned home to find our freezer stopped working while we were gone and lost all of our food. When I called Kitchen Aid they informed me I was two months past my warranty and since I didn't buy an extended warranty (which I didn't think I would need to on a fridge that cost almost $3000.00) there was nothing they could do. It could be repaired but at my cost. After a very heated discussion and much screaming on my end about their inferior product I got them to agree to fix it at their cost.
I am sitting here now while a repairman is here and he is running dye through the lines to find the problem. He has informed me that it will be at least a couple of weeks until this is fixed. Meanwhile I have no working freezer and have a family to feed. I called Kitchen Aid again to see if they could do something and the woman's response was there was nothing they could do and she actually suggested that I leave food in a friend's freezer! I googled "complaints against Kitchen Aid" and was shocked to say the least. It seems they are known for these problems and customer service is not their strong suit. I will never buy another Kitchen Aid appliance again and will tell everyone who will listen about my experience.

I purchased the top of the line 29 cubic foot French door refrigerator KF1S29BBMS00. The first one delivered, the ice maker and water dispenser never worked. The installers came took my old (working perfectly) 20 year refrigerator away and installed the new one. When the ice maker/water dispenser did not work, they said I would have to call KitchenAid for service. KitchenAid sent out their repairman and ordered parts. After one month I was told that because it was a new model they did not have the parts available and I would have to continue to wait until the factory started making them. After much arguing they finally switched out the refrigerator.
After 7 months the refrigerator died. All my food, over $500 worth, was defrosted and then spoiled. I called KitchenAid and the repairman came out. This time I was told it was either the compressor and/or the dryer. He said the part would be ordered and shipped to me. Once I receive it I would have to call and make an appointment for the parts to be installed. This is a major repair. I was told that the freon would be removed and a torch would be used in dismantling the current part and the new one installed. Meanwhile I have no refrigerator. This could be weeks at best before anything is repaired.
I called KitchenAid all upset and the customer service manager looked into how soon the parts could be shipped and advised that the part is not currently available. He said that next week he would put a search out to "other vendors" to see if they have the part.. I don't know what "other vendors means." Does this mean I get a compressor from a less expensive model??? Needless to say, I am so angry and upset with KitchenAid. This refrigerator is a piece of junk. No refrigerator should completely stop cooling and need a major repair in 7 months. Furthermore, KitchenAid seems to feel that a customer can live without a refrigerator for weeks if not longer.
After I spent this much money I expect a product that functions perfectly and I should not have a rebuilt refrigerator or wait this long for repairs. This refrigerator is completely under warranty but what good is a warranty if the customer continues to get a bad product? There is no penalty placed on the company for building a bad product. I will lose at a minimum 2 days off from work, $500 worth of food and I will have to live without any refrigerator for weeks. How am I suppose to feed my family? KitchenAid should immediately without delay replace this refrigerator. Shame on them. Furthermore, the warranty should be extended when a major component breaks. I see from this site I am not the only one having trouble with this model. Seems like there is no recourse. KitchenAid has our money and they could care less about their reputation.

I was so excited that I was going to have KitchenAid appliances, thinking that I would have something that was really going to last and be beautiful at the same time. Ha! In less than 5 months after we bought it, it was coated with ice in the freezer bottom and leaking water all over the floor. The repairman came out and said that a lot of times they are shipped with "gunk" in the lines. Stupid us, we actually believed him and thought all was going to be fine now.
Now, less than 8 months later, it has been leaking water all over my kitchen floor again and it took us a while to get someone out. We are now told on a refrigerator that is not even 3 years old, that it has a defect, was made that way and that KitchenAid knows it and doesn't have a fix for it. Something to do with a valve that is too small and the heater and the line. He would defrost it for us for a charge of $220.00. Plus he informed us that this refrigerator that I (not a we in this case) paid $2,000 for will only last at most about 8 years and that the next thing to go out will be the compressor at a cost of $800.00 or more to replace, not including the service call.
So I have this beautiful to look at refrigerator sitting in my kitchen that has the bottom drawer open, it is turned off at the breaker... Oh yes, that is what he recommended and we are hoping that after the past 24 hours, there is no more water in the lines that will freeze up immediately and the leaking will begin again, only sooner. I refuse to be taken advantage of on this. I think a BIG Class Action Lawsuit is in order. I have never thought of suing someone before, but now, I am not so sure.

Same issue as many. After a call to Kitchen Aid, a technician came to evaluate the issue and determined that it was an evaporator fan malfunction. It took 5 days to get the new part. A new technician/refrigeration "expert" came to install the new (and faulty) fan (The freezer door, which was functioning fine up to this point, was somehow damaged by him so that now it makes a noise when I open it). He said to give the fan 24 hours to cool the machine.
A day later it was no better than it was before, with the temperature hovering around 60 degrees. A new technician was sent out the next day. He determined, after taking the refrigerator apart that the new evaporator fan was faulty. He defrosted the evaporator with a heat gun and talked to Rick at the KitchenAid tech line (On an aside, the drawer display doesn't work at all, a whole different issue). We moved into this house about 1.5 years ago which was equipped with a side-by-side built-in KitchenAid refrigerator model KSSC42KFS01. About every 4 months or so we noticed that the temperature in the refrigerator side of the unit was not staying at 36 F as programmed, but was rising to 60 F. The freezer side temperature was a steady 10 F. We found out that ice buildup at the bottom left side of the freezer was blocking the cold air from circulating from the freezer to the refrigerator side. We had to pull all the food from the freezer and refrigerator sections and melt the accumulated ice with a hair dryer.
We contacted KitchenAid customer service number each time for advice. They never were much help other than telling us to call a local technician, whom they recommended. Since we only had a partial warranty left, we were paying for the service. After the third call to Customer service for the same issue, we agreed to have a technician come out. After removing the lower back panel in the freezer, he saw that excessive ice accumulation had completely blocked the hole connecting the two sections. Baffled by this discovery, he called a KitchenAid technician to assist with the problem. The KitchenAid technician told him our problem was a known design flaw with our model and KitchenAid had designed an Air Block kit (p/n 8201798) to fix it. This part was specifically designed by KitchenAid/Whirlpool to correct the well know design flaw.
My beef with KitchenAid is why didn't the customer service agents know about this problem and inform us about it? It would have saved us hours on the phone and the $135.00 we had to pay to the local technician. Also, since it was a design flaw, KitchenAid should have provided the kit for free. When I contacted KitchenAid about this and spoke with supervisor Yvette (# **), she told me they had no information about the design flaw. When I told her the KitchenAid technician was very aware of the problem/fix and explained it to our local technician, who then told us, Yvette said how could she be sure the technician actually said that. And she couldn't help us with "he said-she said" situations. And besides, our refrigerator was 10 years old and appliances only last 10 years! Since this company doesn't stand by their product, you can bet your last dollar that my next refrigerator or appliance will not be KitchenAid. All was well until six months later, in March of 2013, the refrigerator stopped keeping the non-freezer items cool and ice was forming around the ice maker in the upper refrigerator, and also inside the door of the freezer.
They, KitchenAid, dispatched an appliance technician for diagnostics. Let's start the count off for personal days of vacation stolen by these guys. (1 day) Evaporator fan ordered, and installed 10 days later mid April. (2 days) Load noise and additional ice build up 1 week later, service call scheduled. Same repair guy, different day. Parts ordered to replace faulty fan. (3 days) Two weeks later, installed firmware upgraded circuit board. (4 days vacation) In late June, the ice maker stopped working, service scheduled mid July with new service company and technician. (5 days vacation) Of course, parts ordered again... This time, the technician had them shipped to my house.
About 12 days later, we received a parts shipment. We called KitchenAid when we received the parts package, asking when the service company was supposed to be back. They contacted them and they were out the next day. (6 days of vacation) Unfortunately, there were two additional parts being shipped and the repair could not be completed. Should not someone have known this dependency when we called? Fast forward an additional two weeks, now we are in early August and we called the service company again since all the parts are in. They can't come out until Sept 3, and in the meantime the refrigerator is making a very loud annoying noise.
So, we called KitchenAid to report it and let them know we could not have the appliance serviced with the previous work order since the service provider stated they were only authorized to repair the ice maker. KitchenAid dispatched a third appliance repair company, who was scheduled by KitchenAid for 8/26, then no call no show. They said they did not receive a work order from KitchenAid, but assured me they could make it tomorrow, 8/26. (7 days vacation lost) The third repair company came out today, 8/27, and said they can't repair the refrigerator until the other company completes their work order. I didn't read the bad reviews before I bought ALL KitchenAid appliances and that included a dishwasher, stove, microwave and refrigerator. The repair lady told me to "Buy the warranty." She said they don't make things like they used to. Now you tell me... very disappointed in KitchenAid. They used to be a very reliable, high end company.

I had the same experience as others on this site when I tried to get the extended warranty repairman to fix the freezer that quit cooling. After replacing the evaporator fan motor, he determined that the HV Board #2252159 needed to be replaced. This control board is no longer stocked by Kitchen Aid and the board has to be removed and sent to a company to rebuild it, which takes several weeks. I will have been without a refrigerator for 3-4 weeks and Kitchen Aid will give no explanation or apology for not finding another company to manufacture the control boards needed to keep their 8-year-old refrigerator operating. The attitude of the Kitchen Aid customer service is that "there is nothing they can do" about the lack of replacement parts and they see no reason why they should be concerned about their inability to fulfill the extended warranty that they sold me. Do not buy any Kitchen Aid or Whirlpool product. The company has no regard for its customers or the reputation of their products.

We purchased this in 2011 and have had nothing but problems. The doors could not close properly so they had to change mechanism. The food freezes in the back of the fridge as well as in the vegetable drawer no matter where I place the temperature. What a horrible Fridge. It makes me sick to think I paid so much for this. I wish I had gone real high end and purchased a Miele or Sub-Zero.

In our fairly advanced years, my wife and I "Splurged" on a KitchenAid Refrigerator, Dishwasher, Gas stove, Warming drawer and a lot of other matching KitchenAid appliances and tools to complement our new kitchen. While a bit above our financial means, we purchased these based on KitchenAid's reportedly "High End" quality and reputation with the expectation they would very likely outlast us. The stove, while being a self cleaning model, quickly experienced a failed control panel and we were summarily told that we cleaned our oven too often and the ovens heat fried the high tech front panel electronics. "It’s fairly common". ARE THEY KIDDING? OVENS ACTUALLY PRODUCE HEAT? Who'd O' Thought!
Then, our "Top of the line" Dishwasher went to scrap metal Heaven due to it's being used too much... Water steam vapor damaged the doors inside control panel. Hmmm... As we have always done, we do our dishes every day as we strangely appreciate cleanliness and a healthy environment in our home which is evidently contrary to KitchenAid’s philosophy of product serviceability and durability standards. I think I get the part where an appliance would necessarily last longer if it's not used, that's pretty simple even for me. What I just can’t seem to grasp though is how KitchenAid obtained its reputation for high end quality (as in durability) if their products require virtual non use to maintain any semblance of usability. Are They Kidding? Seriously? And as for the very expensive KitchenAid refrigerator we ordered direct from the factory? It was missing a plastic "grill like" air disperser part that subsequently caused a complete failure of the entire refrigerator and freezer shortly after the warranty expired.
WooHooo... I'm so happy, I wish I could say what I really think about KitchenAid and their products but the NSA would lock me up forever. KitchenAid obviously has their piece of the Corporate American Pie. Unfortunately, by most of the comments I've read, it seems that consumer dissatisfaction will continue to be an ongoing experience for and at the expense of a growing number of very angry KitchenAid customers. Until that is, enough consumers educate themselves en-mass and RE-RATE KitchenAid products to accurately reflect the extremely poor quality and reputation they deserve. Seriously KitchenAid. ARE YOU KIDDING?

I have had to replace my top light in my refrigerator twice already. Well today I opened the refrigerator to clean and once again smelled a burning plastic smell. Yep, looked up and the lights had fallen again and was melting the plastic that covers the top light. This is a huge fire risk.
Thank God I have caught it all three times now before it starts a fire. KitchenAid will be getting a call from me first thing in the morning. My parents always purchased KitchenAid products and I have up until this point. Guess it's time to find a new family brand that will be safe to have in our home. I would not recommend a KitchenAid refrigerator to anyone at this present moment.

We purchased new Kitchen Aid Appliances for a total kitchen remodel 3 1/2 years ago. We also purchased the extended warranty from the people who sold us the fridge (Kitchen Aid Counter Depth Refrigerator with French Doors), range, and dishwasher. Both the range and the fridge have had problems within 2-3 years of use. The range had warranty (from the extended warranty coverage) repairs 3 separate times! Now, the fridge's water valve stuck open and flooded the kitchen floor which is 3/4 inch tongue and groove maple hardwood. The extended warranty people (Repair Master) will only cover fridge repairs. (They deny they will cover any collateral damage.) We still have another year and a few months on the fridge's extended warranty which would take it to the appliance being 5 years old. The extended warranty people said we have to go to Kitchen Aid for help with the floor damage.
Just got off the phone with Kitchen Aid and they denied any obligation since their 1-year warranty was up. So, with what could be several thousand dollars of damage to the kitchen floor, we are forced to place a claim with our homeowner's insurance! We have never paid more for appliances in our lifetimes (married 35 years) than we did for what was supposed to the "top end" appliances such as Kitchen Aid. And then, once Kitchen Aid has your money and a year out of you - you are on your own! We will never purchase Kitchen Aid again. They are simply not "Worth IT!" And the extended warranties are baloney too! You might as well save your money. It's too bad that big companies don't care about the little guy anymore! Think long and hard before you buy Kitchen Aid!

I called the company only to have them appease me by sending me a stainless steel cleaner. Needless to say, no cleaner is going to take the spots away. This is a design flaw and has been noted in several blogs that tiny specks of rust have been found on KitchenAid products due to the brushes used in manufacturing the products. What do I do now?

I purchased a KitchenAid refrigerator just over 1 year ago and have been having issues with the ice maker since about month 10. I just don't understand how consumers are left holding the bad end of the stick with products that are sub-par when we purchase in good faith and even purchase extended warranties. I was asked when I called for service of the same issue for the second time in about a month, if I had called the manufacturer to inquire about the issue. I quickly responded that this is the very reason that I purchased a 3-year extended warranty and that I consider this to be her/the company's job to investigate and find out and not mine.
I suggest before anyone purchases a major appliance to do a considerable amount of research to find out the good, the bad, and the ugly about the product. Otherwise, you will spend a lot of time being frustrated.

KitchenAid 21.9 cu ft Refigerator - KBFS22EWMS. Two year old 22 ft french door fridge with bottom freezer is falling apart. Poor build quality, poor service. For over two months, the freezer portion has be experiencing a build up of ice. We defrosted (manually) and build up began again. Waited for over a month for service man to visit. Upon inspection, service noted two things: 1) thermal defrost coil was faulty and 2) fridge door seal needed to be replaced. Our fridge does not experience abnormal usage, two adults and two university students. Why does a door seal deteriorate after two years unless...... it's poor quality or defective... but no warranty?? (I have a 20 year old back of fridge in the basement, no problems other than it's almond in colour). Why does a coil not work other than it's defective or poor quality..... No warranty??? (I have a 25 year old deep freeze that still works).
In addition to the defective manufacture and poor quality of this fridge, neither KitchenAid / Whirlpool or the service company can identify the part (i.e part number) to order, replace and fix the fridge. How do you build a product and not know the parts that go into it? Poor or lack of quality control! In the last two years I purchased a fridge, dual fuel range and dishwasher; all were KitchenAid. All were billed as being the best Kitchenaid had. I have had major repairs now on all three appliances! I bought and paid extra for KitchenAid, their quality was in theory better than most, NOT in my experience. In our home KitchenAid stands for KitchenDisabled or Kitchen in need of first aid. Poor build quality and poorer product knowledge and documentation. Run do not walk away from Kitchenaid/Whirlpool. They have a 1 year warranty on parts; is this because they know that within 14 months you will need to be replaced and thereby earn extra revenue from their parts sale? Interesting strategy and sales plan, poor customer service and reputation. Built NOT to last.

In November of 2010, we had just finished our $18,000 kitchen renovation. Our $2500.00 side-by-side with freezer drawer on the bottom is a beautiful stainless steel. Was delivered and installed by Lowe's. That is when the fun began. After about 2 weeks, we noticed that the food in the freezer was soft to the touch but cold. We gathered the children and told them of the importance of making sure the drawer was closed all the way. After several days and several lessons in proper door closing procedure, I noticed that there was never any ice when I wanted a cold drink. I soon came to realize after the food in the top part of the new $2500.00 beauty became room temperature that there might be a problem beyond my children and proper door closing procedure.
Then the real adventure began. I called the customer service number in my trusty manual and spoke to one of the clear speaking people in charge of handling such situations. I was told that they would send a repairman to look at the refrigerator and the appointment was scheduled. When asked what to do about all the food in my stainless steel showpiece, I was told that they are not responsible for food loss in this type of situation. "Maybe one of your neighbors could store your food for the time being." Yes, maybe I could have a neighbor store food for my family of 5 until I could get my metal closet repaired (midnight trips to get a snack are now more exciting). I then had the pleasure of meeting a repairman who was more than happy to look at my wonderful now skunky-smelling top-of-the-line food storage device.
Mr. Repairman started poking and tapping and doing repairman type things. "I will need to go through this section by section to try to eliminate possible causes to the problem," Mr. Repairman told me. When I asked what kind of time frame we were looking at, I was told, "Minimum of 4 hours to dismantle, however many hours to do the repair once diagnosed and another 4 hours to re-assemble." "Great," I said, "My new state-of-the-art cold food making contraption will be spread out all over some repair shop for who knows how long?"
"Oh no," said Mr. Repairman, "We do it right here in your home." You what?????? You are going to take apart my appliance here, diagnose the problem, order the part, come back when the part comes in, repair it and then re-assemble it ????? "Yes." How long are we talking about ???? "7 to 10 days if the parts come in." After a quick dial, I was back on with customer service telling them what I had just been told. "Let me call the repair company, please hold." After a brief hold of about 20 to 30 min. I was told to have Mr. Repairman contact his office. When Mr. Repairman was done with his call, he printed out a slip from his little portable printer and told me that his office and KitchenAid determined that the repair was going to cost too much and that the unit should be replaced as totaled. Wow, what a relief.
I was now put in contact with a customer service rep to arrange for my nice new right out of the box stainless steel replacement. Within 2 weeks, will have the new one delivered. What? 2 weeks? What am I to do for 2 weeks without a refrigerator? "You can rent one until your new one comes," I was told. Anyway after my waiting period and lots of take-out, my new ice box arrives and is installed to numerous cheers from the kiddies. We thanked Mr. Deliveryman who left and we went on with our lives... until about 2 and a half months later.
"Honey, did you leave the freezer door open? Everything is soft. And there is no ice." Ring, ring. "Hello, customer service. How may I help you?" After an even more entertaining episode and even more trips from Mr. Repairman who used the term deja vu, it seems like I have been here before (long term memory is not an issue here). Mr. Repairman said that this was common and that a part needed to be replaced. He didn't have the part but it will be ordered. How long are we talking about? "7 to 10 days." Well eventually Mr. Repairman came back and replaced this little rubber part that lets condensation drip onto a pan so that it can evaporate. Problem solved... NOPE!!!!!!
Several more visits from Mr. Repairman and several times telling him that yes, he had been here before KitchenAid decided that this unit also was too much to repair and authorized a replacement. And yes, it was going to be another 2 weeks. At this point I said, "Hold on. Why would I want this thing replaced a third time? Can I get a different model?" No, that is not an option. 2 weeks later, my brand new stainless steel right out of the box replacement replacement food keeper cold thingamagig makes its grand entrance. Mr. Deliveryman who also say it feels like he has been here before installs and again leaves. Wow what a journey. All this just to keep food from going bad even though twice it did. And after all this, I am still sane. I liked the refrigerator when I saw it in the store. It looked beautiful. Now all is going well and we still have our KitchenAid and it looks like everything is finally going to be... Oh wait I forgot to tell you that I just got off the phone with customer service because unit number three is doing the exact same thing. If anyone is interested in a stainless steel boat anchor, please let me know because I have one made by the good people at KitchenAid.

Finally got someone on the phone today willing to help. She said to remove the sliding drawers in the freezer it takes two people and you have to remove 4 screws to get drawers out. After working on and off for several years, with me hammering ice from the inside of the freezer at least once every other week, now it totally stopped working. The freezer and all vents are completely frozen, including the vents in the refrigerator. The refrigerator is warm and moldy and I keep throwing food away. Technicians sent by KA hold me hostage in my own home with 4-hour window appointments and then show up out of that time frame and leave "sorry, we missed you" notes on my door.

My husband and I purchased a custom home in November of 2010. We wanted high end appliances in our new kitchen and have about $25K in KitchenAid products in our kitchen. The largest expense was our built-in refrigerator (model number KSSC42KVS). We paid $8,000.00 for this supposed high end refrigerator. 2 and a half years later, it sits completely dead in my kitchen. The past 3 months have been a nightmare. First, the ice maker assembly had to be replaced at a cost of about $400.00. The cheap plastic arm that closes the ice chute stopped working and allowed warm air to move into the freezer, then the compressor kicked in overtime trying to cool the compartment.
3 days after the ice maker was replaced, the refrigerator side stopped holding its temperature. The compressor would kick on, the freezer would drop to -10 and the fridge temp would go up to 56-60 degrees. The repairman was out again. This time he replaced the damper door assembly which allows the air to move from the freezer side into the the fridge side. Cost me $700.00. Again, everything was OK for about the 3 days and then the same problem happened again. The repairman was out again and this time replaced the thermistors. Again 3-4 days works properly, then compressor kicks on, freezer down to -10 and fridge up to 56. All this time my technician is conferring with Whirlpool technical support and following their recommendations.
Now Whirlpool says the main circuit board is bad. It cannot be repaired because all of the inventory was wiped out by the tsunami in 2010. I will have to wait 2-3 weeks while my board is shipped out to a 3rd party vendor to be rebuilt. Now I am out another $600 as we had to buy a cheap fridge to put in our garage because my $8,000.00 is unusable. The board comes in, the repairman puts it in and within an hour after him leaving, the whole fridge just shuts off. The rebuilt board is bad. The repairman is back with a new board.. The fridge works fine for 3 days and then on June 27th, the same problem is back. I let it run for a couple of days and by the 29th, now the freezer isn't holding temp either. Both fridge and freezer are at 60 degrees.
I called the repairman again and he tells me that Whirlpool is saying that they are out of ideas. My 2-year-old, $8,000.00 refrigerator has some electrical problem and it cannot be repaired. I will have to buy a new one. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? If I would have known what terrible quality KitchenAid is, I would have spent another $1,000.00 back in 2010 and bought a Sub Zero. Please do not be fooled into thinking that KitchenAid is high end and high quality!

I bought my side-by-side fridge at Sears as part of a suite of new KitchenAid appliances. I had the kitchen in my 100-year-old house completely remodeled last summer, and the new KitchenAid refrig, dishwasher and range hood were the centerpieces. The refrigerator just fit under a new custom-made wooden cabinet (designed around it) and beside a custom-made cabinet with granite countertop. Price for the refrig: $2, 266; price for the kitchen remodeling: @ $30,000. I started getting letters from KitchenAid right after buying the products about buying an extended warranty. I figured that $2,000 refrigerator was likely to work for a good long time. (Of course, this was a very naive view of present-day appliance quality.)
The new refrigerator was installed by my contractor on Aug 15, 2012 and was a problem right from the start. The icemaker didn't work when we first plugged it in, and a service call from Sears was necessary to get it working initially. In early June 2013, both freezer and refrigerator stopped cooling. By the time we realized the problem, the food in our freezer had thawed out, so we each ate three pork chops and a lot of melting ice cream and called Sears for a repairman. We couldn't schedule a repair appointment with Sears A&E Appliance Repair Service (another horror story) for a whole week, so we brought two camping coolers up to the kitchen, put the food we really needed to keep - milk, eggs, butter, etc. - in them and started making a daily trip to the store to buy $4 or so worth of ice.
I took a day off from work to meet the A&E repairman. (A&E schedules their appointments in four-hour windows - 8:00 am to12:00 pm or 1:00 pm to 5:00.) The repairman finally arrived, took the whole refrigerator apart and said it needed a new evaporator. He said the part would be delivered to our house by UPS in about a week. So we continued buying ice, emptying the coolers, and eating out a lot. The part finally came and we got calls from A&E asking us to call them and verify that the parts had been delivered. When I called, I was put on hold and then finally spoke with someone whose English was so heavily-accented I really couldn't understand her. After loudly repeating, "The part is here! The part is here!" over and over, I hung up, hoped the repairman would show up, and arranged for another half-day wait.
A new repairman we'd never seen came the second time, opened the parts box, and commented that the evaporator was "all banged up." I took a look and it was obvious that a number of the flanges or fins or whatever were bent. He tried to bend them back into shape and said, "They'll be fine. It won't make any difference." I left then, but my husband was there with the repairman. When I returned a couple of hours later, my husband told me the repairman said the wrong parts had been delivered. He had ordered new parts and they would be delivered in about a week. We scheduled another repair visit. That was when we got sick from eating the food in our cooler.
The whole situation was making me really angry and depressed, so I called Sears Customer Service (another nightmare) and the woman I spoke with recommended that I use dry ice in my coolers, which would have required that I drive across town to pick it up. Before the next repair visit, we were asked to make another verification call, which I made. Around 8:30 the night before the visit, A&E called and another English language-learner told me that the parts had not been delivered and the repairman wouldn't be coming. I had already arranged to miss work the next day and two boxes from UPS were sitting in my hall. I started calling anyone I could get in touch with to tell them to send the repairman, that the parts were there.
I guess I convinced someone because the first repairman showed up the next afternoon at 1:00. He opened the boxes, said the "essential" parts were there and again, took the refrigerator apart. He installed the new evaporator, but said he couldn't "get the pressure right." He spent a lot of time on his cell phone talking with another repairman who was advising him. Finally, he said, "I've done everything I can. It may cool off by tomorrow, but if it doesn't, call A&E and tell them to send Bob **," the person he had called for advice. The next morning, the refrigerator wasn't cool at all. I called A&E and asked that they send Bob out. I was told he was out sick but would come the next day. The next morning, they called back and said he was still sick. I called A&E back, got another ELL on the phone and asked to speak with his manager so I could understand the speaker.
I was transferred to another number that rang for five full minutes. No one ever answered the phone. Since then, I have learned that no one ever answers that number. By this time, my entire life centered around the refrigerator. Sympathetic friends were inviting us over for dinner and showing up with casseroles. Of course, if we didn't eat the whole dish, we had to throw the rest away because we were afraid of the food in the cooler. After another few hours on the phone, I contacted someone at Sears who arranged to have a "loaner" refrigerator delivered to my house. Again, I arranged for a delivery. Now I had a new, broken KitchenAid refrigerator in my kitchen and a small, dented GE in my dining room. I moved my milk into the "loaner" and bought some ice trays.
I continued my calling and got a "secret number" from someone at Sears that enabled me to speak with a "Blue Ribbon" service person at Sears (talk about oxymorons) who sounded like he'd had a LOT of Xanax. The Sears employee who gave me the number said, "Don't tell them where you got the number." Is this a number available only to movie stars and Columbian drug cartel bosses? After hearing a condensed version of the whole awful story, the Blue Ribbon man I spoke with said Sears would replace the refrigerator with one of "equal or lesser value". I reminded him that the price had probably gone up over the past year and that I had bought the original fridge on sale. This seemed to throw him for a loop. He said he had to get some "more information" and he'd call me back "in a couple of days."
I called the Blue Ribbon number again this morning and asked how my refrig had been rated by other owners because I wasn't sure I wanted another fridge just like the first one if it was going to be the same piece of junk I got last summer. (Product ratings and customer reviews weren't available to me online because the appliance was a special order.) But the guy at the secret number had reviews. There were only five reviews and four had given the fridge a one--out of a possible five--points. The reviewers had reported problems that sounded like mine. I then called KitchenAid and they informed me that the only KitchenAid refrigerator that will fit into my custom-built kitchen is the same "one"-rated model that I now own. So much for the carefully planned kitchen with the matching appliances. If I'm lucky, Sears will have something that will fit in the spot built for the other fridge.

When I bought the fridge from Sears, it stayed in their warehouse for one and half year (paid for) due to some family issue and therefore, when the problem happened, I was told it’s out of warranty. A technician checked it out and claimed the control board is bad. To my surprise, some time later, I was told KitchenAid does not sell this part anymore and I have to send it to some rebuilder for the tune of almost $500.00 plus shipping and of course, labor (about $875.00). I don’t think this a fair deal, to spend nearly $3000.00 for a fridge (I figured buying high end appliance will have fewer problems).
That’s not bad enough. I had bought a stove and a dishwasher as well. The stove shows an error message and I have to pull it out and disconnect and reconnect every so often. The dishwasher had broken basket pieces and broken door spring line and roller. Now I'm in the hell of a mess. This is the part that is made to hold gallons of milk and jars that are glass. I spoke to **, the supervisor, after I was told that the bins are covered for lifetime, but the holder that they sit in would not be covered. I read the label on the inside of the door and I quote, "KitchenAid is dedicated to providing quality engineered appliances that offer lasting value.” But that's just the beginning. “Our lifetime warranty on door bins is synonymous with long-lasting, worry free performance." This is what is right inside the door where you place the bins. I was told that I could purchase a new door by Ms. **.
I asked how much the door would be as this could cause one of our children to get hurt. She came back to say the door is no longer available to purchase and that my only option at this point would be to purchase a new refrigerator. My refrigerator, at this point, is not long lasting and not giving me that worry free performance that they apply to the door. The bins were supposed to be designed to hold a gallon of milk, jars and two liter bottles. They lifetime warranty the bins that you put the items in, but not the holder that holds them in your refrigerator. If these fall from the refrigerator, they have the potential to severely injure the person retrieving the items from this refrigerator.

Just about 1 year to the date we purchased this KitchenAid refrigerator, it started to leak water from the bottom every once in a while. Now 18 months later, this happens about once a week!!! The bottom of the freezer is like a sheet of ice, water all over my hardwood floors. I can see the front of the fridge. I shudder to think what the floor looks like underneath. I cannot believe that the useful life of a refrigerator is just 18 months. To think, the refrigerator I replaced was 18 years old and we never had a problem. We replaced to get stainless. What is upsetting is the engineers at KitchenAid know exactly what the "Mean Time to Failure" is on every single operating piece on every appliance they sell. Warranties are calculated accordingly. It disgusts me.

The KitchenAid refrigerator we have is just over 1 yr old, 6 weeks over 1 year. With no warning, when opening the pantry drawer inside the fridge, the pantry drawer lid just dropped off - a piece of plastic (end cap) holding that lid just snapped off. My girlfriend had the same thing happen with hers and predicted this when she saw what we bought. I did not expect it to happen so soon (especially as we no longer have kids home), a mere 6 weeks past the one year mark!! Kitchen Aid calls it "cosmetic" as we still have a refrigerator though this lid piece can no longer be in place... I'm not happy. I first called a parts supplier and they knew exactly what piece it was as they are continually supplying this piece to customers as they know it to be "a weak design".

We have a 6-year-old Kitchen Aid (subsidiary of Whirlpool) built-in refrigerator. It is now longer able to maintain the appropriate temperatures, and the problem has been diagnosed by the Kitchen Aid authorized repair service as a defective control board. Unfortunately, Kitchen Aid (and Whirlpool) made or obtained these control boards from a factory in Japan that was destroyed by the Tsunami (this was over two years ago). Rather than sourcing this part from somewhere else, Kitchen Aid has decided to tell its customers that they are on their own. The only possibility seems to be to remove the control board and ship it to a company (Core Centric) in Illinois to have it refurbished. If the part gets lost, or damaged, or is unable to be refurbished, you are just out of luck. I assume this is the same situation for other parts in Kitchen Aid and Whirlpool appliances, as I assume the factory in Japan made more than just one part.
This is outrageous conduct on the part of Kitchen Aid - I thought there was a Federal requirement that parts be available for items manufactured and sold for at least 7 years. The tsunami was unfortunate, but surely two years is long enough for Kitchen Aid to have found a way to obtain repair parts for its appliances. This sounds like a great opportunity for a class action lawsuit against Kitchen Aid and Whirlpool. There must be lots of customers that have been harmed by their action, or inaction.
In our case, we will end up spending hundreds of dollars sending the control board out to be refurbished, and probably going for an extended period without a refrigerator (can't work with no control board). If the control board can't be repaired (for whatever reason), we will have to purchase a replacement built-in refrigerator, and have our kitchen cabinets redone so the new refrigerator will fit - estimated cost of that would be $10,000 or more.

Last summer, my KitchenAid Refrigerator (not a year old) stopped working. After two months of repairmen being sent by KitchenAid (A and E Services) and numerous ordering of wrong parts, the refrigerator was repaired (or so I thought). Now this week, the control board does not work. A repairman came, and after two hours, the refrigerator still is not fixed. The required parts are supposed to come and be installed next Saturday. I paid over $2,500.00 for my KitchenAid refrigerator/freezer, and I have been totally dissatisfied with this appliance. I will never buy a KitchenAid product again. The KitchenAid representatives seem to lack any concern for this problem.

They asked him to fax/email the warranty info on our side and instructed him to call back 2-3 business days. My immediate response was "they are playing games". Perhaps we should just give up and buy a new one, no more KitchenAid... They finally gave us an appointment for 6/2/13. Who knows what's going to happen. Terrible warranty program. It's a refrigerator which is needed to keep food from spoiling and to store essential nutritious food for good health. Sigh... KitchenAid sucks.

We have refrigerator model KSS42QMX01 purchased in 2007 as part of a total kitchen makeover and the MOTHERBOARD went out this past week. The authorized repair company came out and diagnosed the problem but did not tell us that the motherboard had to be taken out and sent back for repair. On their return trip, they explained this to us and we had to totally shut the refrigerator down so they could take out and send the motherboard in for repair (their only remedy despite spending more than an hour on the phone with KitchenAid Customer Service). We were told that the board was produced by a factory that was wiped out by a tsunami (Japan, Thailand?) and they have not been able to find another source, thus their repair remedy is for you to take down your refrigerator and send the motherboard in for repair. This excuse has been levied to customers for at least 2 years, according to our repair service. This is their answer? This is the solution?
The standard within the industry is for repair parts to be available for a product for at least 10 years from date of manufacturing. The loss of food and the inconvenience of being without a refrigerator for a week, in the best case scenario, because KitchenAid has not been willing to find another parts source, is totally unacceptable. (And by the way, KitchenAid can not commit to this week timeline.) I wonder, what other parts for their products fall under this scenario?
We have lost total confidence in KitchenAid. We would struggle to purchase another KitchenAid Product because of this poor service and we will tell everyone how bad their customer service is and to steer clear of their products. And by the way, we tried to post a review of the product on their website and they "rejected" our review! Thank goodness for social media!

Unfortunately, neither the retailer nor the KitchenAid Customer Service can find a replacement part and we have been unable to pin down when we will be able to have the appliance fixed. We have been told it may be another week but at this point we have no confidence in the company or the retailer. We have had to purchase a dorm refrigerator in order to keep several medications cold. KitchenAid refuses to replace the refrigerator but they did offer us a $100 gift card, good for another KitchenAid purchase. Several weeks ago, the refrigerator began making a strange noise. I called customer service and was referred to a local repair company. I was told my circuit board was bad. Upon investigation, I found out this this part is no longer being made. I need to send it in for "refurbishment" to a company called CoreCentric Solutions. This means going without my refrigerator for approximately 2 weeks unless I want to pay "expediting charges" of over $100. The worst part is that should this part be lost in transit there is NO WAY to replace it. My $6000+ refrigerator is now totally useless. I did speak to someone in the executive office at Whirlpool after sending a letter to Mr. **. All she was able to do is apologize and confirm what I already knew. She said they "try" to keep parts available for at least 7 years AFTER the appliance is no longer made. After reading the above comments, I should have thought twice about buying a KitchenAid. My ice dispenser stopped working. I had purchased the extended warranty and the repairman replaced the motor but discovered it wasn't getting any power. The user interface had malfunctioned, and guess what? The factory in Japan that made them isn't doing so anymore. Sounds familiar? My money for the warranty was refunded and I was told I was basically out of luck. After many phone calls between KitchenAid and the warranty company, I contacted the CA Better Business Bureau. There is a Civil Code 1793.03 that requires manufacturers to provide replacement parts up to 7 years after purchase.
I filed a complaint with them, but was told I should contact an attorney to see if it would be worth taking them to court. The problem occurred less than 3 years after I purchased the refrigerator from Sears in 2010. I thought I was buying it new, but according to the warranty company, it was made in 2008. In short, avoid buying appliances from Sears and stay away from KitchenAid!

We built a new house in 2012 and bought all new KitchenAid appliances. I thought I was buying a great branded product. My natural behavior is to buy the best and when I went in to buy appliances for my new house, I was directed to KitchenAid. I started my experience by having several problems with our microwave and with my cooktop at one time, with the burners not working correctly. I also had the board on our dishwasher go out.
However, my fridge is a nightmare. I started having a problem 4 months into my purchase. I bought a French door fridge, and my kids do not always pay attention to how the door closes so once in a while, it stays slightly cracked open. KitchenAid tells me I need to train my 2, 5 and 8 year old kids to check the fridge door. Do you think kids will remember this all the time? The problem is that the beeper does not let you know if someone left it open until after 5 minutes. The other problem is the sound on the beeper. I can hardly hear it, and there is no adjustment for higher volume there either.
I can hardly blame kids or teach kids that are 2, 5 and 8 years old to shut a door and check it. I can tell you that I know I bought the most highly priced fridge on the market and a simple timer and beeper on the thing is not adjustable. I can't even get an upgrade to fix my problem. I offered to pay for the fix and nobody can help. I am asking for a louder beeper and a timer for an alarm, and nobody can help. More functionality is what the consumer is asking for.
Supposedly, we buy the highest priced item on the market so that we would get more support, or at least an option to add this to your fridge? I would have expected this from cheaper models, but a KitchenAid, as far as what I have been told, is the best. Well, I got room for argument on that one. I went to Sears today and LG and Samsung have adjustable timers and adjustable sound within their appliances. My plan is to buy one and never own a Whirlpool, Kenmore, or KitchenAid ever again because I absolutely cannot get a response from this leadership team within the Whirlpool organization.
This is the 6th time since I have owned this fridge that this has happened. I figured, to replace all the food in my fridge, it would cost me $60-$100 each time. At this rate, it is too costly, with your cost of the product and the way it is engineered to afford your products from this point forward. I am not happy about the communication I have gotten from KitchenAid and Whirlpool to address my problem. I am not happy about supposedly purchasing the best brand on the market and not having more flexibility to adjust timers and beepers.
I am not happy about having to replace my fridge in my new home 18 months after purchase. I am not happy because I will have to try and match stainless colors on the new Samsung or LG brand product I intend on buying. I am not happy about not being able to match all my appliances in my new home because KitchenAid can’t offer a product with adjustable timers and beepers. I am only one customer, and I never bad mouth anyone’s products. But if someone asks about my new KitchenAid products, I will let them know my experience with customer support and product experiences I had from the Whirlpool umbrella.

I called KitchenAid and contacted the repair guy. He came and said he needed to get parts. Week passed. Meanwhile, our contractor had come and fitted the refrigerator with the custom panels to match our new cabinets. Then the repair guy came with 1 of 2 possible bad parts, opened the box and part was broken. I found out from him that the other part - the main circuit board - was made by some factory in Japan that was wiped out by the tsunami. KitchenAid has no replacement parts for this board. If it is bad, it has to be pulled and sent back to KitchenAid to be repaired. However, repair guy said, "We should replace the control panel board first and see if that does the trick."
I called again to KitchenAid and had the part shipped to our home to expedite the repair - another week passed before we could get the repair guy back (we live in the country) and he opened the box (part number of the box was right) and said the part that was sent to us was for a stove. That was today.
We have now been over a month with nothing but a mini-refrigerator - KitchenAid has been unresponsive and uninterested in helping us. We have now contacted both the place we bought this turkey from and have agreed to wait until Monday for the sales person to contact KitchenAid and see if he can get a replacement (which we are pretty much boxed into, as we have a big investment in the custom cabinet arrangement).
I'm SO disappointed and frustrated.

The sound issue was finally resolved after recording the sound to convince the rep that this was not normal (a bad blower fan). However, the same water valve has been replaced 4 times and still shorts out every time a new one is installed. The first repair company said the unit was not repairable. KitchenAid refused to replace the unit and requested a second opinion. The second company has come to the same conclusion. This is after hours of running the same diagnostics over and over again. We have also called customer service. The agents are rude and of no help. I was told I could request a replacement unit but there was no guarantee it would be approved? What?! I purchased a microwave oven, model KBMS1454SBL-1. About a year and a half into the product, the dashboard lights went out and stopped working. I went to the KitchenAid website and filled out their contact form in which they referenced I visit their service page. I filled everything out in on the service page. On that page it indicates the following: "If your appliance is not under warranty or covered by a service contract, then the charge for the technician to come to your home will cover diagnosing the problem with the appliance, and a written estimate for the repair." To me that is vague. Does that mean that once the technician will do the repair, then I will be charged? Oh and also how much will I be charged? Well here is what happened.
On March 23rd, 2013 I waited all day at home (wasting my time) waiting for this technician to come out. A representative from a company called A&E Factory Service came, looked at my unit and said, "Oh, the dashboard doesn't work. It will cost $250 to replace it." I said, "That is too much. Don't worry about it. I can order the part myself and do it myself as well." But it does not end here. He explained that now I have to pay him $129 for his service. I exclaimed why. He said, "Well, that is what it costs!" I was shocked. At no point did KitchenAid or A&E inform me of the cost for this service.
April 26th I finally have time to call A&E and tell them I want a refund because no one at any point asked me if I wanted a service for $129. They explained that they would not give me a refund. I spent about 40 minutes on the phone with them and another 40 with KitchenAid, each blaming each other or saying that I should have assumed that it would not be free. But if KitchenAid does not state the cost and the contractor A&E doesn't explain how much prior to, how is that a fair practice? My service order number with A&E is **.
I will never buy a KitchenAid product again. A&E explained that it does happen sometimes and that I should ask the KitchenAid management to do a conference call with A&E to get a refund. I called Kitchen Aid and they don't even consider the idea. They just say, "It's not our problem. Your product is out of warranty so it's not our problem." What a joke. A company that truly can give a rat's ** about its products or customers! If I had wanted someone local to fix my problem like A&E and called them myself instead of doing the service through KitchenAid, A&E explained that they would have informed me prior to coming out. But because I did it through KitchenAid, then it's not their problem. They are only supposed to show up, diagnose, collect money and then leave.
Nice little partnership they got going! Screw the little guy, then waste his time and then try to overcharge for a part. Unbelievable! Never again! I will stick to brands that actually go out of their way and help their customers, whether a product is in warranty or not! Never again!

We purchased a new KitchenAid KSC23C8EYY for $2600 at the end of Jan. The ice maker didn't make ice for the first 48 hours and then the water started coming on but not shutting off. This happened at night so we didn't notice it until the morning. This filled the freezer with a frozen waterfall of ice and spewed water all over my new kitchen floor and under the new dishwasher. I called Western Appliance to have them replace it since it was brand new and now was covered with ice. They had to send a tech out before they could/would do anything.
So I waited 2 days and the tech said a valve was bad. They had to order it. Western Appliance finally agreed after much angry conversation to replace the refrigerator which they had to order. That was another 3 days. Now, 2 months later, the water dispenser and ice maker stopped working. The first tech from A&E that came out had to call Whirlpool service and they recommended that he replace the wiring harness that he had to order, 10 more days! The second tech from A&E that came out said it wasn't the wiring harness and found that the coil inside the refrigerator was iced over. He said to unplug it for 24 hours and it would fix everything. He said that we had left the door open and that was what started the whole thing.
Well, this refrigerator door slams shut if you leave it anything less than 90 degrees open, so it is not at all possible that we left the door open. I told the tech that he needed to find the problem that was underlying the frozen coil before I would agree to unplug the refrigerator for 24 hours thawing out all of my food. He said that was what the Whirlpool Service Center was recommending.
I called KitchenAid service again and explained my concern and told them they still needed to fix the problem. They agreed to send out another service company. J&H came prepared. They brought their own towels, a cup to test the water dispenser, a floor protector, and a steam generator to defrost the coil. Yipee, someone who actually knows what they are doing! They diagnosed that the two "thermistors" that defrost the refrigerator and freezer were drawing different voltages. They are ordering parts and should have them in 3 days.
Hopefully this fixes the problem. I'm not sure that I would go the KitchenAid route again. But I understand that Whirlpool makes KitchenAid, Kenmore, and a few other refrigerators so I don't know how you get a refrigerator that won't have the same problem. I also understand that Samsung and LG have way more issues from the 5 technicians that I have talked to in trying to get a working unit.
It seems like a lot of money for something that has had this amount of problems in the first 3 months of purchase. I guess this just reaffirms the old adage, "Buyer beware"! It sucks!

The most recent problem (a few weeks ago) was no cooling. We lost hundreds of dollars' worth of food. Our repairman charged $65 to tell us we needed to call KitchenAid because it's a repair covered under warranty (condenser unit not properly sealed). A&E repair, authorized by KitchenAid, came out to screw everything up. First they ordered a new condenser unit, then made us wait a week to install it. Then the installer did not have enough time allotted by the idiot dispatcher to install the unit, so he just patched it and ran dye through the system to "figure out what the problem was" even though we had a new condenser unit sitting in front of him waiting to be installed.
Then we got the original A&E repairman out who installed the condenser unit in a rush (idiot dispatcher still forgot to allot correct amount of time). Now a week later, the refrigerator (including the freezer) is not cooling again. I called KitchenAid to complain and they are saying we should use A&E again, despite the cost to KitchenAid already (we were told it was an $800 repair). My husband and I already lost 3 days of work waiting for A&E idiots. Now we have to lose yet another day - this time a Saturday. When I asked KitchenAid customer service who I should register my complaint with, they gave me a corporate address in Michigan.

KitchenAid informed me the cost to send someone would be $129 plus parts, and if the tech stated it could not be repaired, they would offer something towards the purchase of a new refrigerator. The tech was not able to get the broken screw out of the bracket. I called KitchenAid in his presence, and they refused to stand by their original statement.
The tech called his employer, A&E Service Co. and was told to do the best he could. He claims he inserted another screw near the broken one and put tape across the top and bottom of the bracket to hold it. He said this is a temporary repair that might last 3 months and then I would have to buy a new refrigerator. A&E charged me $166.20. I complained stating that wasn't the quote I received, and the tech was not able to fix the problem. They said they will reimburse me $26. I feel because the refrigerator was not able to be repaired, I should be reimbursed the full amount (A&E Factory Service, 35 Melville Park Rd, Melville, NY 11747, tel.# 800-905-9605).
The tech arrived on January 7. I spoke to KitchenAid's repair department, customer service, and the sales department stating what I was initially told about partial compensation towards a new refrigerator. Each department refused based on the year of the appliance. This is a very unusual matter. The tech noticed only very light items are placed on the 2 shelves involved. He said he never saw anything like this in all his time as a repair person. He noted it wasn't weight that caused the bracket to separate from the back wall. Am I entitled to a full reimbursement from A&E since they could not fix the refrigerator and I will eventually have to buy a new one? Is KitchenAid responsible in any way?

When the French door opens, it slams open; and in a short period of time, the hinges will come loose. The deli shelf was made so cheaply that the tabs controlling the temp broke off, and I was told it was cosmetic! A repairman came out and said this was the best he can do! This is a poorly made refrigerator, and judging from other people's comments, my big error was in purchasing it!

We have an 18-month old KitchenAid refrigerator - high end model with the freezer on the bottom. It began to leak water that settled at the bottom of the freezer. After a time, it would freeze so much that it would eventually leak out onto the floor. We looked in the book - no help there. I found your forum and a problem just like ours (same model even). They said it turned out to be a grommet that was too small and that a new style had been developed. So we wrote to KitchenAid about this. They denied that there were any problems. After several conversations with them and a copy of one of your forum notes on this, they finally did agree to at least pay for the part.
Well the appliance man came and fixed it. It was indeed the old style grommet. He said it happens all the time. We wrote to them again and asked them about paying the labor (part was about $12 and the labor is $100). No, they would not do this. Apparently, according to the repairman, this refrigerator is not the only one with this problem. This model is also sold by Maytag and some other - maybe Sears? Just slap a different name on them and they all have this problem. So buyer beware.
Make sure that they check this out before you bring it home or you too will be paying the price to fix it. We really bought what we thought was a quality product (now that we are retired and didn't want to have to deal with repairs all the time). So much for that! KitchenAid support was of no help at all. If I had to do it over again, I would not buy another KitchenAid product!

We have the big side-by-side stainless steel model, purchased in 2005 for our new home. We are in the same situation as the previous reviewer. The circuit board was removed and taken for repair. The problem is that the part is no longer available, so they are refurbishing them and must have weeks of backlogged work to do to fix them. We are also waiting on A&E. Unfortunately, they don't give you this information. They say the part is on backorder. Hello, it's not on backorder. There is none.
KitchenAid and Whirlpool are big companies and they should order some circuit boards because there seem to be an awful lot of unhappy customers losing food and waiting weeks or months for the repair to be done. If you have one of these big units, you can only leave the door open for a couple of minutes maximum. If you need to clean, remove the shelves or drawers and close the doors. Otherwise, the alarm will begin beeping and within days or weeks, the circuit board will fry. This is a known problem and a recall should be conducted to replace the offending parts on these units!

I have a KitchenAid Refrigerator and Microwave Oven Combo which are 8 years old. The refrigerator went out on 11/26. My warranty was out so they sold me a 1-year extended for $429.00. A&E came out on December 3 to fix the refrigerator. The repair guy said it was the circuit board and would order it. He said it would take 1 week to get the part. The part never showed up and A&E called to find out if I received the part. The repair guy told me to move the fan to keep the refrigerator cool. He told me the part is back ordered until January 19. Now I am out of a refrigerator and freezer. I lost over $400 in food.
I called KitchenAid back to get a tracking number for the part. They told me the part is due in on December 19th so I booked another appointment. After 15 calls to A&E and KitchenAid, I found out the part is now discontinued! And the reason is that KitchenAid stopped making it. But the system had a glitch and no one knew it was not coming in. Four weeks and still there is no working refrigerator. A&E came out to pull the circuit board to have it rebuilt. Another week before it's fixed or is it? I called to get some sort of compensation and answers but again no one knows what is going on. I got mixed answers to my questions. I will never buy another KitchenAid appliance! Then the spring on my microwave/oven went out. They sold me another warranty for $350.
