Purchased a complete set of high-end KitchenAid kitchen appliances from Good Deals Appliances, invoice # **, and had them installed on Feb. 7/13. The KitchenAid Stainless Refrigerator Model # KFXS25RYMS2 (4-door, with middle drawer and freezer in bottom) has a LOUD rattling noise. In March 2013, KitchenAid sends out their repairman who misdiagnoses the rattle as being an installation problem. So, when the rattle returns, KitchenAid warns me in Nov. '13, that a second visit will be charged to me, even though it's within the one year warranty. So, I contact the appliance installers.

The 3rd repairman on Jan. 16/14 states that this model has an ongoing problem with the Condenser rattling. He keeps heavy-duty cardboard in his truck for just this purpose. He uses it to shim around the Condenser coils--and it has been the best fix so far... But how can cardboard be a permanent fix? And we cannot move the fridge for fear the shims will dislodge! On Mar. 18/15 I speak to a KitchenAid Supervisor. I advise her that the rattle seems to be an ongoing engineering/design problem. She checks for Recalls and Quality Issues, and says there are none. She reluctantly agrees (after 1 1/2 hours on the phone!) to send out their own repairman, since they were responsible for misdiagnosing it in the first place.

Their repairman attends, confirms that there's an ongoing problem with the Condenser Coils vibrating in this model. He calls KitchenAid/Whirlpool's Tech Dept., speaks to Andrew, who also confirms an ongoing problem with the Condenser coils vibrating, and says that KitchenAid/Whirlpool does not produce a part to fix this problem, and that when he was a repairman in the field, he would rig up his own repair with used rubber gaskets from discarded condensers. My repairman does not have used rubber gaskets available, so he replaces the cardboard shims and crosses his fingers! I noticed he made no mention of the true problem (Condenser coil vibration) on his invoice. The Technician, Andrew, also did not note the true problem on his report, nor his "used rubber gasket shim" remedy. No wonder "Recalls and Quality Issues" had no mention of my problem!

I called the KitchenAid Supervisor again, to follow up about this on Mar. 20th and again, on April 13/15--and heard nothing back. So I sent a formal complaint letter dated Apr. 15/15. Again, no response! November 2015--the icemaker inexplicably stops working! The latest repairman (Dec. 23/15) confirms that he is also familiar with the Condenser Coil vibration problem, but that KitchenAid will not acknowledge it, or produce a proper factory fix. He called their Tech Department and advised "TJ" that it is unrepairable and an ongoing problem. In his opinion, it is a Manufacturer's Defect. TJ tried to convince him to do a "Mickey Mouse" repair to address the problem, which my repairman refused to do, because of liability issues. TJ told him to have me call Customer Service to follow up. I have already spent countless futile hours on the phone to KitchenAid's Customer Service dept, who just make excuses and send me in circles!

After more than 2 years and 6 service calls, four different repairmen, including KitchenAid/Whirlpool's own Tech person, confirm that there is an ongoing problem with the Condenser coils vibrating in this model. KitchenAid/Whirlpool refuse to acknowledge this problem, or manufacture a part to remedy it. We are entitled to a proper factory fix, or a new fridge. Currently, the best fix has been shims made out of heavy-duty cardboard, jammed in around the condenser to stabilize it! That's not a permanent solution! Cardboard disintegrates! Plus, we can't move the fridge or the shims will dislodge! The frustration for me, the wasted time, plus the unnecessary repairman visits--how can KitchenAid/Whirlpool pretend there's no problem here? We bought the complete set of high-end stainless steel KitchenAid Kitchen Appliances. They were supposed to be of superior design and quality. KitchenAid/Whirlpool are not living up to their promise.

A cardboard fix is not acceptable. I need to have this problem permanently fixed, with no cardboard involved! I had no idea that KitchenAid/Whirlpool's products were so poorly designed. Their Customer Service is a joke! I'll never buy Kitchen Aid/Whirlpool products again! *All receipts and service invoices can be produced, if needed.

I got KitchenAid countertop fridge in Feb 2015 and since I have got this fridge I was not able to use freezer for more than a month because everything freezes in it. I called service technician and he came in, did something and it didn't help. After few days same issue again, then guy came in again and said he don't have heat gun so can't fix. Again appointment was rescheduled and then he came in again, did troubleshooting and said he will replace door. I waited for 1 month and called KitchenAid again and they said door that was shipped had a dent so now they have to get new one manufactured. Another 1 month. In a nut shell I have this fridge since 1 year now and I was never able to use freezer. KitchenAid sucks.

I purchased a KitchenAid Refrigerator in 2013, stainless steel model #KFIS29BBMSOO. I've had numerous problems with it, many service calls. The first was the hose in the freezer splitting, which took 5 service calls to figure out, costing me for each one. Finally they said it was a recall item and I should not have had to pay. It was difficult to get my money back from the service people, took months.

Now there is ice building up behind the drawers in the refrigerator, blocking the vent. There is about 2" of ice built up so the drawers do not close completely. Everything in the drawers freezes. When I called repair people suggested by Whirlpool. As soon as they heard the model number they refused to come. I called Whirlpool again, they said they have never heard of any problems like this, however, when I read all of the reviews listed here there are a lot of problems with these refrigerators. The repair guys said KitchenAid is one of the worst brands now, made so poorly, but so expensive.

They finally found me a repairman, he is about 5 hours away, I told them he is not close, they said he probably knows someone closer to me, however the call is from 8:00-5:00, I have to wait. This has been so frustrating. I purchased 7 appliances at the same time, I did a remodel on my kitchen. My dishwasher failed after one year, the motor actually fell on the floor, it slow leaked onto my wood floors doing $40,000. damage, cabinets had to be pulled out walls repaired, took 5 months. KitchenAid would do nothing. The motor was not installed right at the factory, they tried to blame it on the installers. I'm fed up with KitchenAid, would never recommend it to anyone. I just can't believe they don't worry about their reputation.

We remodeled our kitchen in 2014 and purchased a KFIS29PBMS03. It immediately started frosting up in the freezer on the left side and ice and water would form below the ice maker and drip into main fridge. After three service visits the dealer replaced the unit. Again the same process happened again with multiple services and updates.

Our dealer, Fergurson had another unit shipped out and installed that supposedly had been updated and fixed of these two issues. The third unit is actually worse with the frosting up and the drips and icing is about the same under the ice machine as the two others. What's disturbing is the last service guy did order a new freezer door and gaskets but stated "all these units do this and yours is not bad enough to fix as of now, but they do have another update to the top of fridge." I have ask just to refund my money and come get this jewel of design. The many days of scheduling services and deliveries and exchanges has become extremely time consuming and expensive.

Purchased new refrigerator Oct 2013. One year later it failed - not keeping food cool enough. Parts were replaced. One year later it failed again - same problem but different cause. This time it was a manufacturing defect which, according to the repairman, was well known but we had received no notice. Again, according to the repairman, there had been six updates to the control panel during that year but again, no notice from KitchenAid.

Now, two months later, it has failed again. This time it is some sort of internal water leak which was undetected until it ruined about half my kitchen cabinets, the lower adjacent wall and several feet of living room wood floor. Fortunately I have both home insurance which will cover most of the house damage and an extended warranty on the refrigerator which will cover that repair but I am still out a substantial deductible which I intend to be reimbursed by KitchenAid. Further, under no circumstances would I recommend a KitchenAid appliance to anyone. This particular model is a POS and further, KitchenAid does not apparently care what happens to the appliance once it leaves their factory.

They have finally given up and said that the door needs to be replaced. However, KitchenAid no longer makes this door so it means we have to spend $10,000 to replace this lemon refrigerator.

I, like all the others had the same issue with the water leak. Purchased the extended warranty (thank God), had the service company out, they removed the rubber stopper and we were done, SO I THOUGHT. Have had 2 other repair companies out due to the rising temp, frost, food freezing in the refrigeration area, and the compressor running for periods of up to 4 hours continuously.

Was told there was a part that should have been put in when the Rubber Stopper was removed. O.K., replaced that part, problem fixed... NO, and told that it is normal for the Compressor to run up to 80% of the day! Have called Lowe's yet again due to the compressor running all day, and an electric bill that has jumped from an average of 125.00 to over 200.00 due to this refrigerator. Keep being told by Lowe's that they will submit to their "Review Board" for replacement, but doubt that anything will come of that. I should have listened to my sister, and stayed away from KitchenAid appliances, when she told me 10 years ago that they were junk. With Black Friday coming, ADVICE, run away from this brand as fast as you can!

I purchase a KitchenAid refrigerator (20.0 cu ft counter-depth) from Sears 12/20/14 ($1979.99). I purchased a 5-year warranty package from KitchenAid too. Six months later I found a big puddle of water on the kitchen floor coming from the freezer compartment. I called KitchenAid and when the woman asked me what was going on in the freezer (I told her frost was forming in the ice compartment); she told me that it was warranted under the first year and gave me a number of a company (Calif. Appliance Tech) to call.

They came out on July 8, 2015 and told me the problem was the gasket on the left side hadn't been properly sealed and was letting air in. They left and a few days later someone from CAT called to tell me the part was ordered and it should arrive in 6 weeks. It never arrived. When I spoke to John on 9/18, he insinuated that I can still use the freezer which is not so. He told the part (freezer) has to be manufactured and I have to be patient as there is a long back order! In the meantime, CAT closed the case and it had to be re-opened when I called back on October 16th.

What does this say about the crappy product? The freezer is completely frozen shut so I cannot open the door and have to make numerous trips to the market as I can't use the freezer. I went back to Sears in Santa Monica and told their customers in the appliance area not to purchase any product with KitchenAid in the name. I was very vocal to the shoppers about the horrible experience with them (Whirlpool owns them). I then spoke to John at Sears who took me to their computer and looked up the part KitchenAid told me had to be manufactured and the part is readily available.

I am so angry with KitchenAid. They are liars! John at Sears told me the part with gasket could be purchased thru them but it will terminate my warranty and would cost me up to $1,000 to replace. I paid an additional $266 for the 5-year warranty. I am ready to throw in the bucket, call Goodwill to haul it away and purchase a product that doesn't have KitchenAid or Whirlpool in its name. John told me that had I purchased the Sears warranty this wouldn't have happened. How can KitchenAid get away with not providing the warranty they tell us we have? My last call was to Josh on 10/16/15 and was again told the part would arrive in 6-8 weeks.

We purchased a stainless freezer at the bottom model in January of 2013 from a local appliance store. Within a couple of months we had a freezer that stopped getting cold and lost all the food in it. A repairman came quickly and said it was working fine and it continued for a year. Then the freezer stopped working for a day, but came back on. In October of 2015 the freezer stopped completely. We have had a series of repairmen out and we still have no freezer. I have called KitchenAid and they said they would only fix and repair what is in the sealed unit, but that often the control panels fail and that they won't fix or replace the control panel.

We paid top dollar for a fridge that lasted two years. There is no way I would ever buy a KitchenAid product again for any reason. This has been a nightmare. We were without a fridge during the hottest two months on record and now we are going into the holidays without a fridge/freezer. We have had 13 service calls from KitchenAid authorized repair people. They have replaced the compressor, parts of the door, the electronic panels and parts, the insulator for the ice/water lines and made numerous calls to dethaw the ice that builds up behind the bottom drawers. It is now not working AGAIN! The fridge is warm and KitchenAid customer service is rude and unhelpful. Everyone you talk to says something different. We now have another company coming out, with another day off work, to try to fix it again because KitchenAid won't replace it.

This person says he isn't sure what is wrong but it could be one of three things and he needs to order parts and come back again! 13th repair call and still no working refrigerator. We called the distributor we got it from and they said KitchenAid is notoriously hard to work with terrible customer service. They helped us get in touch without local rep who is trying to help us. We purchased a KitchenAid refrigerator (model KFIS29PBMS) with a 5 year extended warranty. We started having trouble with the unit after 1 year, in that the freezer compartment was making a lot of noise. About a year later, it started again. the problem was the freezer was not keeping ice cream hard. They diagnosed the problem to be the automatic defrost cycle not working properly. Ice would build up around the fan causing the loud noise. This time, the service technician replaced the control panel and another panel in the rear of the unit. The noise subsided, but two problems continue to exist. The unit periodically beeps (every five to ten minutes) and the refrigerator freezer compartment continues to not freeze ice cream.

I called for extended service and was told they would NOT come out to fix the problem because it was already repaired. After an hour with their extended service rep, they agreed to find another service company but said I may have to pay for the repair. I have had KitchenAid products in all three of my homes in the past. The quality of their products has changed - unfortunately for the worse. When they refuse to stand by their extended service contract, then it's time to find another company. After reading several reviews on this refrigerator, I found that I am not the only one who has had this problem. New cheese drawer lid ordered, still didn't fit properly so technician had to "shim" the sides and now there is a gap on either side where debris could collect and can't be cleaned out. Door on bottom freezer deemed to be warped causing it not to seal properly, thus huge frost accumulation on inside of freezer and bouts of thawing causes puddles on floor in front. Waited 2 months for a new freezer door, arrived and when technician went to install found it also was warped. Now have to wait another 2 months for a second try. Whole unit is substandard. I asked for a replacement fridge. Of course, they refuse but they are "happy to keep making repairs". KBFS22EWMS4 bought this refrig in late 2012. All seemed fine till 5/2014. Water started leaking from the freezer door. Water had been leaking into the bottom of the freezer and eventually started spilling out on the floor when the defrost cycle ran. I called a tech and he took apart the freezer, cleared the defrost drain, unfroze it and all seemed fine. 1 year 4 months later the same thing again.

I called the same tech and when he got here, he pulled out the refrig and took off the bottom back panel and then removed the little rubber drain plug/funnel. He said this was the problem and now he just removed them when he sees this issue. He's seen this before. It was very sticky (he said) because of the heat. The rubber funnel is about an inch long and about 1/2 inch wide. It has a slit in the bottom of it for the water to pass through. Not a hole, a slit! No wonder the thing leaked, it would get so easily gunk'ed up and with the rubber being so sticky I'm sure the slit would stick together and probably make it much easier to freeze. I'd call this an engineering issue.

Who in their right mind would use a pliable rubber funnel with a small slit in the bottom, it defies logic. There probably should have been no funnel to begin with or at least a hard plastic one with a hole big enough to drain without getting gunk'ed up. We'll see if this fix takes. If not, I'm buying another (non-Kitchenaid) refrig. I'm not putting $100+ each year on the same fridge for something that should have been designed properly.

I purchased a five-year extended warranty on all the appliances which, unfortunately, has now expired. I recently noticed water damage to the base of the cabinet surrounding the refrigerator and to the hardwood floor. I had an appliance repairman out and he determined that the water leak was the result of a crack in the evaporator drip pan under the refrigerator. He said he would order a replacement pan.

A couple of days later he called to inform me that this part was no longer available. He said he could attempt to repair it, with no guaranty that the repair would be successful, or I could buy a new refrigerator. I think it is outrageous that a $2,500 6-year old refrigerator (which is otherwise working fine) is now rendered unusable because of the failure of a cheap plastic part that KitchenAid has discontinued. It sounds like KitchenAid is discontinuing parts availability in order to force people to buy new products. Just cost me $1,602 in labor charges to fix a six-year-old KitchenAid, side-by-side built in refrigerator. Yep, the top of the line one! The parts were covered under the warranty because the appliance had a Freon leak, which caused damage to the compressor, evaporator coil, and heat exchanger. Now I ask you, if a company recognizes that their appliance should not break down in this way in only six years, as evidenced by their willingness to hand over the parts free of charge, shouldn't they pay for the labor as well?! Oh, and to get the parts for free, you can only use one of their authorized service people, who of course can and do charge whatever they want. This company should not even bother having a customer service dept. They do nothing except repeat their hard line and refer you back to the legalize of their warranty. Never would I buy a KitchenAid appliance again.

We purchased a rather expensive KitchenAid refrigerator-freezer, model KSF26C7XYY04, one with a computerized, electronic control system located on outside of the freezer door. What we have found is that the ice maker inexplicably quits working and then equally inexplicably starts working again---days later. Two calls to the store where the unit was purchased (Lowe's) resulted in two different technicians coming out to fix the problem. The first technician replaced the computerized electronic control unit. This did not solve the problem. The second technician had no lasting success either, even confirming that the temperature control settings were at the factory recommended levels.

With the problem still continuing, we phoned KitchenAid and were eventually transferred back to Lowe's. The only solution offered was to have still another technician come out to fix the problem (at our expense). A return "chat" contact with KitchenAid produced the same results. What is disappointing is the extent to which KitchenAid refuses to accept responsibility for a design/manufacture flaw in their product and the futility of their so-called solutions.

Why would anyone pay for a third technician to address the same problem when two others couldn't? Is the third technician (reportedly more of a KitchenAid "authorized technician") an admission that the first two that Lowe's sent out were something less than competent? Why wasn't a KitchenAid authorized technician sent out the first time? I was asked if I purchased an extended warranty. What good is an extended warranty, if the same problem can't be fixed under the first warranty period? We need better products and better solutions.

We did a gut rehab kitchen remodel in 2012. Consumer Reports magazine pointed us to the best refrigerator and other appliances (virtually all KitchenAid). Everything (layout, space, ice maker and filtered water) was great with the refrigerator for 3 years. In late August, 2015 we started seeing water dripping from the freezer door onto the floor. Fortunately not hardwood flooring, but wooden cabinet enclosure got a bit wet and is damaged. Bottom line - after a couple of hopeful attempts assuming it might be the ice maker or the high humidity, the problem persisted and we called the dealer for repair. I asked the tech if he's seen this problem and he honestly answered "Yes, a lot." He explained that the part to fix it would be free of charge, and that I would need to pay $164 for the service call.

To the dealer's credit, I was told on the phone that the minimum for a service call is $164. With this fresh info from the tech who's working on the refrigerator real time, things recalibrate.... If a manufacturer has "a lot" of the same problem happening, the product should be recalled and owners notified. From there, repairs should be gratis. While the tech was still at the house, I googled the problem and see many youtube videos and write ups about this problem which is a small black rubber check valve that gunks up and then backs up water into the freezer. The floor of the freezer becomes a mini skating rink, and when there's no room left for water down there, it leaks out the front of the freezer. I called the dealer while the tech was still at the house and plead my case. They did call back and agreed to pick up half of the service call. They tried KitchenAid and were unsuccessful.

A couple days later, I called KitchenAid's large appliance customer service and they stuck to their guns. The rep gave me the usual apology said there's nothing he could do. I asked for his supervisor. I waited a few minutes and finally spoke to a woman who listened, said sorry, and then when I asked for her manager, she refused to pass me up the line saying that she was as far as I was going to take this. $82 isn't the issue. Customer service or lack thereof, and a corporate decision to let the consumers be guinea pigs to figure this wet mess out for themselves is what "frosts" me. I wonder how long before I have a wet floor beneath the freezer again. Consumer Reports or not, I'm done with KitchenAid, its products, and its affiliated companies.

Two years ago we purchased all new kitchen appliances. We did all appliances with KitchenAid, french door refrigerator, dishwasher, countertop range and built-in oven and microwave. The appliances were all mid range models, not bottom of the line. In the two years, we have had a gas stove top burner that would not light, the refrigerator stop cooling and freezing and now the upper rack on the dishwasher is broken and falls out when it has the weight of dishes. The stove top was in excess of $100 (but covered by warranty) and the refrigerator was in excess of $1200 (just squeaked in under the 2 yr warranty), the dishwasher part is $45, not covered by warranty. I would NEVER recommend KitchenAid. This has been just way too many problems with these appliances in such a short period of time, makes us worried by the quality and long term functionality.

I am deeply disappointed with KitchenAid, an appliance manufacturer whom I thought built high quality, reliable products and who stood behind their products. I have a model KSSSC48QMS03 refrigerator that constantly runs with 1 second pauses and pinging noise. Technician diagnosed as faulty Gemini board 2307028 (W10219463). I cannot believe that Kitchen Aid does not provide repair part 2307028 (W10219463)! My home is only 8 years old and a showcase of high-end KitchenAid built-in stainless steel appliances; 48" wide refrigerator, microwave, warming drawer, double drawer dishwasher and gas stove with steamer. This Gemini Electronic Control is for the refrigerator (and, according to the service technician, in the stove as well). There are all kinds of complaints on the internet about KA refrigerators running continuously with a sonar-like pinging noise diagnosed as this faulty board.

It is unbelievable that I have a $9K refrigerator for which KA will not provide a replacement part. According to the KA recommended service company, the only solution is to send the board off to a refurbisher. I don't like to buy parts from someone that is not supported by the manufacturer. Not that they may not do a good job, but that it's not a new part, factory tested with manufacturer warranty. If this is what I can expect from KA, then as these appliances need to be replaced, I will change to a manufacturer who supports their products. Unbelievable, KitchenAid (Whirlpool)! This is probably a $50 part to manufacture that they could sell easily for $300. How can they anger so many customers? One comment said that KA told them this was due to the Tsunami in Japan that wiped out the plant. We had a plant affected as well at my company and it's not hard to take the design to another manufacturing location.

We purchased a French Door KitchenAid Refrigerator model #KFCS22EVMS8, that is just over two years old. It recently started leaking water from the freezer drawer onto the floor on a regular basis. As we have hardwood floors, this is a concern. We called KitchenAid and they ordered a service call, and since our refrigerator was no longer under warranty, we were responsible for the service fee. However, they covered the parts as a "one-time goodwill gesture".

Well, I discovered from online research that this model has a defective part that has totally been redesigned. The service agent at KitchenAid knew exactly which part to order without really asking me for many details. Even though this defect is totally theirs, they refuse to cover the labor when the problem is no fault of the consumer or due to age of the appliance. It will happen if your refrigerator has been assembled with this defective part, and unless you purchase the extended warranty, the consumer is responsible for the repair. Bad Business!

When I called Kitchen Aid, expecting to speak with a customer service tech about the problem, the only option they offered was to forward me to an independent parts distributor. I did not want to purchase a new ice bin or schedule a costly service call if there was something I could do with the help of an over the phone technician. The distributor informed me that Kitchen Aid does not offer over the phone support and my only option was to call for a service technician to come to the house. Is it true there is no customer service support? That is a huge disappointment. After paying thousands of dollars for these appliances the customer is on their own.

Also the quality of the stainless steel is poor. I find it difficult to clean and it dents very easily. I had another band stainless steel fridge for fifteen years, when my kids were small and crashing into everything, and it never dented. Now there are only adults in the household and it already has three dents. It is extremely upsetting to have a dented appliance in my brand new kitchen. I was planning to purchase all Kitchen Aid appliances in my new kitchen, but fortunately decided to go with a Bosch dishwasher and a Sharp microwave, which are of much better quality. Dear FOLKS, please read this review. WE FINALLY FOUND A SOLUTION!! My wife and I remodeled our upscale home's kitchen 2+ years ago. Granite, all brand new top of the line Kitchenaid appliances. We wanted to buy American, since I have had a 35 year + career in US based manufacturing sales. Well, the KFIS29PBMS refrigerator was unbearably loud from day 1. We had 4 warranty calls right off the bat. They replaced the DC fan motor, the compressor and some icemaker components. This did nothing to relieve the very loud whiny electrical motor sound that was on almost constantly. This took us to the end of our 1 year mfg warranty.

We called Kitchenaid several times and they basically showed us their corporate "middle finger." They suggested we purchase the extended warranty, which was several hundred $ more! No way, we are not that stupid or foolish. 5 different factory authorized service people visited us. By luck, or I think, God's grace, repairman #5, who had 18 years as a tech rep, finally solved the issue.

The problem was the sealed refrigerant system had a leak. The compressor was kicking into the highest gear (hence the loudest noise level) to try and keep the freezer & refrigerator cool. Our bottom drawer freezer's coldest temp was at 20 degrees, when it should have been 0 degrees. The icemaker requires 15 degrees to make ice. It could not do this since 15 degrees was colder than the freezer temp, and the icemaker is located in the refrigerator section!

The sealed system has a 10-year warranty, so the final repair cost $0!! Our refrigerator is now very quiet, much to our delight. There were times when we could not deal with sitting at our kitchen table. So, justice was finally done. Call your factory authorized repair people and make them check the temps in the freezer. Kitchenaid needs to stand behind their substandard products.

The repair people advised us that Kitchenaid will no longer pay for warranty calls based on noise. If their customers make them replace the expensive sealed refrigerant system enough, perhaps they will spend the extra $ to install better quality units from better quality suppliers. I was told by every tech rep that the quality of today's appliances have deteriorated significantly in recent years. The big companies wants your $, but don't care if they send you bad products. Thank you, I hope this helps many people.

This fridge was bought at Ferguson's in Florida in late 2006 (shipped overseas) and it has been a total disaster from the date of arrival. It is an extremely expensive fridge, over US$6,000. Stainless steel, architecturally designed fridge. Came with NO freon and the ice maker never worked. Took us about 6 months to get the part for the ice maker which the company did pay for the part considering it was a brand new fridge. Since then it has been one repair after another. Every year we are looking at a major repair and to source the parts is a living nightmare. Drops temperature very quickly.

Right now it has been working poorly for over close to a year and we have spent about US$1,500 in new parts and still not working properly. Very cheaply made inside, always frosting up, wire baskets in the freezer part are all rusty. Need to try one more repairmen and if he cannot fix it have to throw out a fridge that looks perfectly NEW from the outside. The dishwasher arrived without a handle and we had to argue with Ferguson's and KitchenAid to get the handle as if it was an option on the dishwasher. Has never worked properly and was only used about 25 times and just gave up on it.

KitchenAid Double wall Oven KEBC208KSS0, worked well until about 18 months ago. Stopped heating properly and cannot find any repairman that can tell me what is wrong. Looks perfectly new from the outside. Note: all these appliances are stainless steel. Bought a food processor the other day 12 qt and it was never working from the start and had to return it. When I returned it found out that many are returned for the same reason.

KitchenAid is a pathetic company. They should be ashamed to even call themselves an appliance company. Furnished my entire kitchen with stainless steel KitchenAid appliances and out of the fridge, double wall oven, dishwasher and hob cooker (total about US$10,000), after 7 years ONLY the hob cooker is working (and what can go wrong with that?). Another point, our goods had to be shipped overseas. We are convinced that retail outlets in the USA ship out defective goods especially in Florida where exports to Caribbean and South/Central America are high. Defective merchandise is sent to our region because guess what? Warranties are not applicable when the goods are taken out of the USA. I am happy to send you copies of the bills for all the items and reams of correspondence with Ferguson's.

Updated on 12/7/2015: I have exhausted all attempts to try and repair a KitchenAid Fridge we purchased at Ferguson Enterprises, Inc, Tamarac, Florida. 24.7 CF Architectural Designed SXS Fridge. Model number#KKSSC42FKS. At the time that we purchased the KitchenAid appliances, we wanted quality products as the items were being shipped to the Caribbean. We thought the KitchenAid brand was considered a quality product. We paid $4,741 for the fridge (excluding shipping and duties and taxes in our country).

With all due respect to KitchenAid, the products we purchased appear like quality appliances. All are stainless steel with an excellent finish. That is the dilemma. The fridge looks brand new on the outside, but for the last year it has not been working. It is still in my kitchen as it is built into the kitchen wall and as I already stated it looks perfect from the outside. The big problem is that try as we may, we cannot get the part that is needed for this fridge. I have had 2 parts shipped to me at considerable expense and both are not the right part. Our technician who knows KitchenAid appliances says that we are getting the part for a new model and we need the part for the old model.

PART REQUIRED: KitchenAid fridge, Model KSSC42FKSO1. Serial #QM4308660. Power supply board #10155702BO 19/0ct/04. EU 1156 02. These are the numbers that I got off the board. The board goes into a case and the case has written on it: Embraco EU 1556 02B 04. Compressor Electronic Control Unit - UCC2. The first part we purchased was from Angel Appliances. They sent me the part which as we have already said was the wrong part as it is for a new model. It was sent back to them. We have a purchasing agent in Florida who went direct to the KitchenAid factory for the part and it is still the wrong part, actually the same part that I got from Angel Appliances in California.

I had a young lady on Skype from KitchenAid parts department the other day and she is the first person to tell me outright that the part I want is no longer manufactured for the old model fridges. She then went on to say that the new part that was sent to us is supposed to fit the fridge that we have. When I explained that the technician says that it does not, she then said that is probably needs some adjustment. When I asked what kind of adjustment? The line went dead. This is a typical trick. As soon as the question gets uncomfortable they hang up on you pleading the "line went dead".

I did not want to go back but this fridge has been a white elephant right from the start. It arrived in a beautiful crate but when it was unpacked it was not working. It had no Freon. When it started working the ice maker did not work. It took us forever to get the company we bought it from Ferguson's to send us a new part for the ice maker at their cost.

Then in 2009 we needed an electronic board and had to search for months before we got it from Marcone Supply Appliance, in Miami, Florida. I have had to replace the defrost heater, evaporator motor, all the rubber seal around the doors, only to name a few. This fridge is down continually and I hate to say but the mechanics for the working of the fridge is a terrible quality. Of course, warranties given in the USA fail to work in the Caribbean as the excuse is the appliance has been taken out of the country. So we are left with an appliance that looks perfect but for which we cannot get a part.

I love the look of the fridge, its size and its capacity. However, the length of time it takes us to get parts that work and that fit the fridge make it a living nightmare. Yet, why should we have to throw it out? It makes absolutely no sense. Also how can your company justify not making parts for a fridge that is 12 years old? Is there anybody anywhere that can resolve this matter because we absolutely have no idea what to do other than throw the fridge out?

3000.00 KitchenAid (purchased in 2014) refrigerator truly a loud disappointment. The buzzing sound from this fridge is so loud we can hardly hear each other talk. I have to crank the volume up on my tv to hear it. I can not afford to buy another refrigerator. This one is only just over a year old. Due to this experience my family has decided to never buy another KitchenAid product again. Our friends feel the same way. No one wants to waste their hard earned money on junk.

French Door Refrigerator with Single Ice Maker KFIS29BBMS00 - We remodeled our kitchen in early 2013 and we bought higher end appliances, all KitchenAid brand. We paid over $2500 for this refrigerator. Since then the repair guy has had to come out to fix it 4 times. He will be here for the 5th time on Thursday. The issues have included ice build up at the back of the fridge, freezing our refrigerated products, not maintaining cold enough temp for our frozen products, ice maker not working well, ice bucket rusting out because the ice keeps melting and running down the front of the unit. The condenser was replaced and I don't know what else exactly, but each time they come to fix something, another problem surfaces.

The repair guy told me that this unit is a terrible one and they are constantly doing repairs on them. I called KitchenAid to see if they will do anything to try to remedy the situation and they said that there is nothing wrong with this unit and they have no record of issues with the model. So basically, we spent $2500 for a lemon and will have to replace it on our own dime. I would totally participate in a class action lawsuit against them! This is unethical!

We bought a KitchenAid model Kfish29pbms from Custom Distributors in April 2013 for $2750. After only two years we want to take the thing and chuck it off a cliff. The fan in the freezer is so loud you can hear it upstairs. We had a repairman out who said it was ice buildup on the fan. He got out a hairdryer, melted the ice, said good luck, and charged $75 for the service call. The noise stopped but came right back within days. The food in the freezer is soft too. It is a closed circuit so we are hoping it's just the defrost board that has gone bad and that a new repairman can fix it. Either way we should not have to spend money to fix a brand new fridge when our old one lasted 22 years with no problems. KitchenAid is junk!

We bought a new Kitchenaid refrigerator French door bottom freezer model # KFIS29BBWH03. The Fan noise is horrible. Sounds like an Ambulance coming down the road. Very unacceptable. We also have ice on the back of the unit inside the refrigerator part which the latest service man, whom we have had four come, said it was a problem with the indoor ice. It also causes the shelves to be wet all the time. The service man has ordered a new computer board for that issue but says the fan noise is normal even though we can hear it throughout the house. Just want to throw this refrigerator in the trash but it was very expensive and if they could fix the noise problem I would be happy. But the noise is driving me up the wall. Won't buy anything from Whirlpool, who owns Kitchenaid and Maytag, again.

KSSCA 42QMS03 built-in refrigerator-freezer - Builder Centex (now a Pulte division) installed this optional upgrade appliance in March 2007 for $7000. Now, appliance is not cooling enough in freezer and almost no cooling in refrigerator; has flashing indicator lights; and has intermittent low fan noise. Repair tech said KitchenAid does not carry replacement for defective Main Circuit Board because Japanese factory for the board was damaged by the tsunami during the large earthquake that destroyed nearby nuclear plant, so customers have to wait till 2020, per KitchenAid, for KA to have replacement circuit board again.

That tsunami was in March 2011 -- more than 4 years ago; how long does it take to have another company make that circuit board? Or does KitchenAid not care about its obligations to its customers for prompt availability of replacement parts? In reading the other damning reviews on this website, I am getting a clearer picture of the poor accountability of this manufacturer. What I do not understand is that Whirlpool, a highly regarded brand in appliances, is apparently allowing their upscale KitchenAid brand to languish in poor management practices.

We purchased this very expensive fridge in May 2010 and the appliance store gave us a 5 yr warranty which we used on 5 different occasions. Long story shortened greatly... 2 yrs in we had water leaking on the floor which was warping the newly done wood! Ahh! We couldn't figure out what was going on b/c it both seemed to be running/leaking as well as there was water freezing up in the back of the freezer, until it created a frozen pool in the bottom and started to leak out the front. So I turned off the water supply (stinks to have this huge fancy fridge and NO ice or cold water!) But that didn't seem to stop the prob. First they said it required the 'duck bill' to help w/ draining the water inside the fridge which wasn't covered under the warranty- even though KA had HUNDREDS of calls on this issue at that point in 2012. Then later we found that we were experiencing 2 separate problems.

We needed a faulty valve which was covered and the repair company was nice and thorough in fixing the duck bill for free. The valve we were told might have been b/c the water was freezing inside the ice cube maker in the fridge (our ice is not indoor but in bottom freezer on left side). He showed me how the water was frozen inside the hard plastic tubing. NOTE that we DID defrost it and that sorry to say didn't help. ALSO BE AWARE that for us these issues seemed to coincide via coincidence or not.. We are unsure... But seemed to occur when either someone left the freezer opened for a prolonged time.. OR we went out of town for over a week and the freezer remained unopened. Unfortunately, we have never gotten an answer on that one.. BUT we just came back from a 1 month trip overseas and bam! The prob was back! Grrrr..

Anyway... So that repair of the duck bill and double valve seemed to work for 3 yrs.. b/c now we are in 2015 and experiencing very similar issues again. I called our old repair guys again and they told me that KA has changed out the 'duck bill' for a new piece called the "goose neck/P-trap drain tube". We just ran out of the warranty of course last month.. So to fix this would be $110 labor, $80 service fee + part $25. I found this website that shows how to put it in yourself. I don't even cut my own grass or nail something in the wall myself.. BUT this looks so easy I will do it myself! See link to Repair Clinic! Not sure it will show up here but google it! Has a video. I'm going to give it a try. ** Also check out the threads on this forum **.

ALSO lastly.. Sorry.. Wanted to let you know that one of the other calls we have had to make on this which was NOT at difficult to figure out but would have been pretty costly had we not had the warranty was the condenser went out 4 yr after we bought it 2014. The thing just started not to cool anymore! But the guys figured it out pretty quickly and got the new part in straight away. OHH And lastly... Really it is.. Haha. The stainless doors are the WORST of ALL of our stainless appliances to clean. and EVEN are getting tiny rust spots which is crazy as our fridge isn't anywhere near the sink/stove.

Anyway... SO FOR CLEANING them.. I have tried several different products and the one that has by far done the best at cleaning and keeping spots away is Weiman Stainless Steel Cleaner & Polish. I agree w/ ALL that has been said re: this machine.. Looks great.. But a total lemon! I will NEVER spend $2300 on a fridge again. I figured it was my once in a lifetime. I'm grown up and get the kitchen I want & have it last a long time.. I'm a teacher... So the cash is not flowing like the water on my floor. But I will never buy something like this again. Sadly too much $$, hassle, and time.

I called KitchenAid for support but they told me the warranty expired so I waited to see what would happen. In June 2015 my kitchen floor flooded with water from the refrigerator, forcing me to call KitchenAid again. They told me they could send someone to fix the problem but asked me to pay $319.00 first. Instead I called and hired a local technician for $75.00 who found out that one of the hoses connected to the ice maker was cracked and leaking.

After he replaced the broken hose the ice maker began to function normally and the leaking problem stopped. I am upset that this new refrigerator gave me so many problems, from the leaking hose that consistently flooded the floor to the non-functioning ice maker. Constantly leaks water underneath. Warped the new cabinet that was built in around the unit. Freezer does a defrost everyday and fills the space beneath the freezer draw with water. Once it freezes solid (every day), the extra water leak through the door seal underneath the unit to do its damage to the wood cabinet.

To save myself frustration, once I figured out where the water was coming from, I was able to chip the frozen ice under the freezer drawer out. Not convenient, but it saves the cabinet. Do yourself a favor...... don't buy it. It was drain you of patience and money.

In the past 8 year I have built 2 new homes on the upscale side of the housing market. In both situations I used higher appliances from KitchenAid. For the investment made, I am very dissatisfied with quality of the produce drawers. On both drawers, the chrome deco on the drawer handle has come loose due

to faulty adhesive and both drawers have cracked in the center of the drawer handles. This is something I would expect from a 300.00 refrigerator, not one over 2000 dollars @ builders cost.

In addition, I had the ice maker replaced in 6 month's due to a faulty board, which is something you as manufacturers are aware of, but failed to advise the consumer. We have replaced the ice maker board and now will address replacing both produce drawers. I must say that after less than one year of ownership and facing the fact that all the other series of appliances are also KitchenAid products, I am waiting for the next problem to occur.

I come from a family of builders, both residential and commercial and intend to advise them to consider other upscale appliance manufacturers on future projects. If this letter never goes up the management ladder I am sure I will receive the same reply as my last e-mail, indicating that your Customer Service Department also needs repair. The freezer recently stopped working for no apparent reason, then kicked back on after 24-36 hours. This has happened 4 times in less than 3 weeks. By the time the service man gets here to check it out, the freezer is back to working, and he can't find a problem. The 2nd time he called Whirlpool and went through an entire diagnostic testing and still found nothing. He thought the Whirlpool technician that he spoke to was not too bright, and actually rather rude and indifferent.

The only recommendation they had was to replace the mother board for a cost of $800 - with no guarantee that replacing it will solve the problem - it was just a 'guess'. The service man told us that he wouldn't buy a KitchenAid appliance for anything - their service department was difficult to work with and trying to get parts needed for repair can be a nightmare. We will NOT be repairing this refrigerator and we will NOT EVER purchase another Whirlpool appliance - EVER.

I was cleaning it to prepared to load it from my old refrigerator only to find that the bottom freezer drawer cannot be removed for cleaning and there is no way to get to the bottom floor of the freezer to clean it. I contacted Whirlpool Customer Service to find out how to remove the drawers and after nearly 30 min, the CSR told me that he couldn't find a way to do it. How can KitchenAid (Whirlpool) sell something that cannot be cleaned? I am so angry and frustrated. The young man told me he would file a complaint but that there was nothing else he could do. Terrible design that cost me over $3000.

I have had my refrigerator for about 4 years (MOD: KSSC42QVS02). I have had a multitude of problems with the unit ranging from a broken ice maker, frost causing a leak from the freezer, but most frustrating is a repeated problem that the refrigerator will not cool appropriately. I have had 5 service visits from an authorized repair person and now am told I have to buy a part because there is a known issue with the one that shipped with the unit. Since I had reported this problem within the first 12 months and it was never fixed, I assumed it would be covered. Instead I get into a circular conversation with customer service reps who are obviously trained to say no. At this point I've spent close to an additional $1000.00 for a refrigerator that is 4 years old. This had led me to boycott any future KitchenAid or related company products.

I have an extended warranty that I bought through KitchenAid. It is Dan Marc Appliance Repair in New Jersey and they are horrible. They either order the wrong part or the part comes broken. I always have to go 2 weeks without a refrigerator or freezer. And I also lose a freezer-full of food. KitchenAid, who is owned by Whirlpool, is horrible to deal with and I would not recommend them to anyone. And to me these appliances are new and to have them fixed 3 times in 2 years is not acceptable. They are also overpriced.

Kitchenaid only 27 months old. Will not make ice. Factory repairman out on 5-6-15 and worked on it at a cost of $137.50. It has only made 10 ice cubes in 25 hours. Says it may need a new ice maker for another $160. Prior to this purchase, I had 2 Whirlpools sent out which would not get cold. This was over a 30 day period. Done with Whirlpool products. They are junk and have very bad ratings on Google. Reports show Samsung are the best. When closing fridge door we hear moving sound in liner, which rep said is normal. Big Joke!!!

The door closed properly when he examined it. Second, water evaporation on the top of inside wall of the refrigerator. This was repaired at no cost. Third, the loud noise of compressor runs constantly. Repairman said it was probably air in the waterline. Fourth, finally the loud noise of the compressor is driving me nuts. My husband said go out and buy a new refrigerator. With the cost of refrigerators, how can we afford the cost of a new one every few years?

Purchased new KitchenAid Architect Series French Door Bottom freezer refrigerator KF1S29BBMS02 for new house. This is the top of the line unit and we were extremely happy with the look, features and functionality. After 10 months of use the unit suddenly stopped working. Freezer temperature would barely get below freezing, the top refrigeration unit would not cool below 50 degrees and no ice would be produced. Obviously disappointed, but knew that we were under warranty and the unit would be fixed at no cost to us.

Calling into warranty service was not too painful, short wait time and easy phone tree. People manning the warranty service line were all very pleasant and respectful. The issue is the process. The process as I understand it based on conversations with KitchenAid warranty service is that they will exhaust all options to attempt to repair the unit and then and only then will they consider other resolutions. In our situation we are in week five of the process. Four visits to repair unit, none successful and another visit planned in 2 days, which will be the start of week six, and we are still without a working unit.

They will not offer a rental unit, but if you push they may offer you some minor value to offset the cost of a rental unit. In our area the shortest rental term was one month and the cost was over $160 per month. When I brought that number to KitchenAid, they would not provide that amount so we have to spend additional money due to their faulty product.

When asked how long this may go on, they stated until the KitchenAid Warranty techs decided that the unit could not be repaired. Sounds reasonable, but what it equates to is weeks and weeks of back and forth between the third party service companies and KitchenAid Warranty techs trying different things to fix the unit. With each visit taking 3-5 days to schedule or longer if parts need to be ordered. Sounds like this effort goes on until the KitchenAid Warranty tech has replaced every part possible and there is nothing else to try. Based on current trend...this could take 8-10 weeks for our situation.

I understand that process is necessary to protect business interest, but this has been a very frustrating customer experience that has completely thrown me off the KitchenAid brand and any other brand owned by Whirlpool. This is both from the quality and durability of the product standpoint and especially how the company deals with unsatisfied customers. While KitchenAid won't commit to what resolution they will offer if the unit can't be repaired, my preference would be a refund so that I can buy a product that is more reliable. My advice, Bing search how many complaints against whatever model of appliance your are considering and look for models with the lowest number or less significant type complaints. Reading the complaints about the model we bought after the fact, I very much doubt we would have purchased.

After Katrina devastated our home, we lost everything. My husband and I didn't have much to repair our home so when we had to select our major appliances we knew they had to last a very long time. We believed in the KitchenAid/Whirpool company. We purchased the stackable washer and dryer, dishwasher, microwave, stove and french door fridge. Within the first two years the microwave went out. The cost of the repair was half the cost of the microwave. After that the fridge went out. We paid $265.00 for the repair. The following year the fridge went out again with the same cost in repair.

Year 4 our washer went out with a part costing over $300.00. That same year my oven thermostat became a problem with a bill of $100.00 just to look at it. Now today after paying $198.00 for a repair guy to look at my fridge (which continues to run at 54 degrees) we learned that it will cost over $800.00 to fix the freon hose which is located behind a bunch of other parts and compressor.

We trusted this company but it has been an expensive nightmare!!! We can not afford the repairs and the additional cost of wasted food and trips to the local laundromat each week. PLEASE DO NOT BUY ANY PRODUCTS FROM KITCHENAID/WHIRPOOL!!!! IT IS A WASTE OF MONEY AND YOU WILL SPEND JUST THE SAME ON REPAIRS. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE MY FAMILY LIVES EVERY DAY!! THEY SUCK!!

Approximately 10 years ago I purchased a 42 inch Kitchen Aid Refrigerator model kssc42qmS01 for about $5500. Seven years later, it required a rebuild of the circuit board for about $400. Last month the overtemp warning light was coming on for both the freezer and refrigerator. The authorized repair guy and Kitchen Aid said they could not fix the board due to the Tsunami in Japan. This excuse does not hold water since there are several after market repair shops that fix these boards daily. Just Google Kitchen Aid Control Board and you will find an entire market place of repair shops and used boards. (They all love Kitchen Aid!) If you read the detailed accounts of other pissed off homeowners who got stuck with a large piece of unserviceable junk in their kitchen read on from this website. My favorite is the guy who fixed his own control card for $6.

Blaming a Tsunami is a convenient excuse to not fix or service these refrigerators because of underlying design flaws. Unfortunately I wasn't able to fix my board a second time despite the $500 in service calls and emergency repairs. The refrigerator still can't maintain its temperature. Kitchen Aid says there's nothing they can do except offer me a "special price" which is not better that a good Internet price from an online deep discounter. Keep in mind that this is a built in in a custom kitchen. (The Kitchen was featured in a local Milwaukee Magazine) I can't just rip this 42 inch built in out and put in a stand alone refrigerator because there would be a large gap in the 42 inch cavity not to mention a 3 inch projection even with a counter depth unit. And why would I buy another Kitchen Aid / GE built in when they walk away from their own product? My advise is to stay away from Kitchen Aid / GE built-ins.

Bought a KitchenAid French Door stainless steel model#KFIS29BBMS00 purchased at Ferguson, which was my first mistake. Had the refrigerator for approximately 6mos and it stopped cooling. Called Ferguson which they referred me to KitchenAid and explained what was going on. They, Kitchen Aid sent a service person out to make repair. He worked on it and told me it was fixed 2 months later same issue. I called him back and was told that he could not make repair and that the refrigerator could NOT be repaired.

I then contacted Kitchen Aid and it explained that it had the same issue and that their service tech said it could not be repaired. Rather than to replace the refrigerator they sent out a different service person, which I can only assume to give them the answer they wanted to hear which is to work on it until warranty ran out. He did this for them. He came out replaced board, inverter, and compressor.

This resolved the issue for about 2 months and once again the same thing happened. I call him and he said that he could for sure fix it. So me trusting in nature said "OK if you think it will for sure cure the issue" and said it would, except this time the warranty ran out and that I would have to pay, bad as this sounds I agreed, came out, worked about an hour, charged me 400.00 dollars, said it was for sure fixed. NEVER got cold, called him back and he would not take calls.

Crazy as this sounds I called a friend who is really good about fixing things and asked him to look at it and see if he could fix it. Told him what I had done already, and gave a list of what had been replaced on it. He looked at it 15 minutes maybe, and said that what they had worked on was not the problem except compressor but that the problem which was a leak in condenser coil that caused the compressor to go out but he could see that. Neither service tech had did anything to fix leak and it really would not be worth fixing do to what I have invested so far with no guarantee that it could be repaired.

As it stands I have about $4,000.00 in a refrigerator that worked correctly for maybe 6 months. All KitchenAid could offer would be an apology because the warranty is out even though it broke within the warranty but that their tech said it was fixed even though it wasn't and in fact he couldn't fix it but because he said it was that's all that mattered. I am sure that they have service techs that go out and patch things long enough to get the warranty out so they don't have to stand behind the poor product they sell.

We purchased this fridge 7 years ago and it is built into our kitchen -- thus not easy to replace with an alternative. It stopped working one week before Christmas. An engineer said that it was the main circuit board that was faulty, We called KitchenAid (Whirlpool) and were told that it could not be repaired and they could not assist in replacing it. They claimed that the company who supplied these boards to them had been destroyed in the Japanese Tsunami and it was not possible to replace them. They actually said to us, "You are on your own." How can any responsible manufacturer say such a thing!? Clearly they have no concept of who keeps them in business. They offered 25% off a new fridge (to replace would be $10,000) but would not put this in writing or tell us how we could access the discount. It was impossible to reason with them.

In despair we turned to the internet and found 355 similar complaints (all negative) about the same fridge. However, we also found a guy in Florida who said he could repair the board for $120. We had nothing to lose so we sent it to him. He was brilliant, texted when it arrived, texted that he had tested and confirmed it was repairable, texted when he had repaired it, and then texted again to say it was on its way back. Brilliant, all within 24 hours! We fitted it on its return and hey presto, the fridge worked and has continued to do so. So why can't Whirlpool be as caring and offer this service, indeed even work with this gentleman? You can go onto eBay and find the board you need for sale at $1800 (supply & demand!) plus you may also find other similar people who offer to repair the board for around $120.

We now have our fridge working again (and have not had to buy a new one and refit the kitchen). However we will NEVER buy a Whirlpool/KitchenAid product again. (They trade under more brand names than just these, so look carefully). Indeed having had a whole spate of other kitchen appliances also break down for various reasons, we have determined to NEVER buy a US-made brand again if we can avoid it. (Marvel are another one to avoid in our view). The only branded kitchen appliances we have that has never broken down is made by Miele and LG. Our kitchen engineer said that this Miele and other German brands (and Korean) are the models they are called out for least.

On telling this tale to friends, 3 of them all said that they had the exact same problem with their Kitchen Aid refrigerator at about the same time. One had felt obliged to replace with the same product but 2 others said, "Never again with KitchenAid," and purchased other manufacturers. It makes you wonder how any company can stay in business with this level of low quality products and poor customer service. I suppose if you have bought up most of the competition (at least in North America), you can feel that you control the market and thus don't need to care. Complacency is the beginning of most disasters!

The dishwasher routinely flooded the floors. After the 4th repairman came to our house our dishwasher was replaced. The first two repair visits the repairman suggested maybe we were putting our dishes in the unit incorrectly and the second time he said maybe we were using the wrong soap. Really? Our wall oven has required two visits from repairmen to recalibrate the controls because when it said 350 degrees it was actually 250 degrees. Now the unit won't get out of the preheat stage.

And now after spending Friday morning away from work to have $750 worth of replacement parts installed by a repairman, the refrigerator is broken again - including water all over the floor. We did purchase an extended warranty with the products through Best Buy. EVERY TIME we call Best Buy they do their best to point the finger at Kitchen Aid and Kitchen Aid responds with a "we could care less about your problem.” So what's next? Kitchen Aid Refrigerators Model KBFC42FTSOO - Shame on you KitchenAid. I have several media contacts and once they report on all this I am hopeful that consumers will boycott your product. I also bought a 6300.00 refrigerator from the Great Outdoors in 2011. They were closing and since Sears owned them I purchased a floor model that was on display in a cabinet but had no power on to it. So I figured I saved 1100.00 between the brand new one. Wrong, I was told by the salesperson that it was a new model but when it was delivered and I tried to register it, it was manufactured in 2007. I called the store and Sears but since my receipt was stamped no refunds or exchanges they got me good. So now 3 years later the damn thing never worked right from the start and I have called it a piece of ** from the beginning. Guess what, my control panel out!! They do not have the part, tsunami story told and then broken contract with other company.

I immediately called KitchenAid because I could not believe what this Tech was saying. Either I find an outside company with a rebuilt Control Panel or I can wheel the refrigerator to the side of the and basically it's junk. KitchenAid confirm that they did not have the part and that the manufacturer was destroyed in the tsunami and the other company that has been listed several of these others complain are no longer is willing to make the control panels for them. I might have a chance of them rebuilding one for me directly and proceeded to provide the phone number for me which was wrong having to call them back and spend another 30 minutes on the phone. Another woman gave me two different phone numbers, none of them worked as well.

After the third phone call I was provided with a company name and phone number they gave me that will certainly sell me a rebuilt one. I just paid $1200 for a rebuilt board. Interesting enough this company is offering a 10 year warranty on a rebuild control panel however KitchenAid only offers a one year warranty. I am sure kitchen Aid knew there was problems with this board for years. They should have recalled that or extend the warranty.

I have never heard of a company not having a part in to be able to fix these refrigerator when people have paid so much money for them. Unless you have a money tree in your backyard and are able to pick enough for a new $8500-$10,000 refrigerator which I do not. They should stock the part and be able to control the market from other outside companies hiking it up prices to their desperate customers that just need their refrigerators fixed, realistically the part probably cost about $2.00 to make.

I called KitchenAid as well, they said they're putting in my case up for review to do the prorated. It's changed. From what I've heard $1500 doesn't equal $6000 and these parts are not that expensive to obtain. This is absolutely the most hideous thing I've ever seen a company do. This is the United States. This is a huge corporation. I hope everyone never buys a KitchenAid product again. Why would anyone in their right mind take $1500 for refrigerator that's worth more so we have no choice but to go to outside venues for these parts? Again outrageous, ridiculous and the most disgusting thing a manufacturing company can do. If they’re so willing to cough up the prorated amount why don't they do the right thing and at least split the cost of the part with the consumer if they're giving them willy nilly numbers of outside companies and not controlling the market. Why would a company offer a 10 year warranty and not the manufacturer?

I have purchased KitchenAid products for years. My whole kitchen is full of this top-of-the-line series. I will be slowly changing every single KitchenAid product out of my kitchen and if I am going to spend the money on that type of product it'll certainly be Sub-Zero that offers a 12 year warranty from top to bottom on the refrigerators. There are hardly any bad reviews about Sub-Zero. KitchenAid's competitors seems like they at least know how to stand behind their consumer. Shame on you KitchenAid. This is disgusting. Oh by the way, the tech Whirlpool factory care that KitchenAid called for me cause if I used someone else, my what little of a piece of junk warranty is left would be void. Charged me $145.00 for call and removal of board and oh by the way I have to have him reinstall the board for another $145.00. Cause warranty on motor and compressor will be voided if I reinstall. KSF22C4cYY01 - Purchased a KitchenAid side by side refrigerator in October 2014 from Lowe's. Thinking that this refrigerator though a little higher price, it would be a better refrigerator. I was wrong! Shortly after purchase I noticed water freezing in the bottom of freezer. Had a repairman with warranty company come out to fix it. Also had a bad taste in the water that took over a month to clear up. Then the ice maker stopped working. Had the same repairman out. He was unable to repair said it needed a new ice basket. They had to order it.

Several weeks went by. I called to find out that they could not find part needed, therefore the refrigerator needed to be exchanged. This has been ongoing for four months and I have yet to talk to the correct person for the exchange. Every time I call I am put on hold for a long time and then told someone will call me back and they never do. I am so disappointed with KitchenAid! I will not buy their product again.

They will be out next week to replace.

We requested the first year for a replacement and they have spent more on parts. Since we purchased it then we paid for it. They will not replace unit. It is a lemon from day one. Always has made a noise. It was so loud at one point we had to close our bedroom door at night to sleep. Don't buy this appliance. KitchenAid uses Flamingo Appliance Repair based out of Florida with a branch here in Atlanta. They have been to my house 8 times within 4 weeks and they have been incredibly rude and unhelpful. How many of you have that much time that you can take off from work? Yea, me too! The customer service representatives with KitchenAid and Flamingo have been polite, but all they can do is read to you the script that is written for them. Meanwhile, we have spent $3,000 on a refrigerator that doesn't cool below 50 degrees and the ice maker may or may not dispense ice from the door, which Flamingo cannot address if the one time it decides to work is when the technician is here.. I purchased all new KitchenAid stainless steel appliances in October 2009 from Bad Boy in Whitby. I also purchased the Gold extended warranty. I noticed about a week ago March 24, 2015 that the bottom of the fridge (model: KBRS22KVss1 and S/N KY3628480) has a crack right in the middle coming out from under the deli drawer. I called Bad Boy but of course the extended warranty expired in December 2014. I then checked the warranty in the KitchenAid manual but it expired the same time. I have never in all my 62 years seen or heard of a cracked liner yet in the manual it states "it will pay for replacement or repair of the refrigerator/freezer cavity liner if the part cracks due to defective materials or workmanship".

Just on the off chance I called KitchenAid....Due to the age of the refrigerator there is no warranty but they can send a serviceman for $89.00 for the first 15 mins. I talked to the parts department to get an idea of that cost and the liner is not a replaceable part but they do have a patch kit. He could not tell me how much that would be or what it consists of as it's a service kit and he's not a serviceman. Beware appliances are made to last 5 years only.

We lost several hundred dollars of food. Apt Appliances offered to do nothing but charge a $165 service call with a $400 labor minimum. This is after I bought ALL my appliances from them for a new house build. I called KitchenAid and they too denied warranty until I really started complaining and only then did they "remember" that there is some 2-4 year warranty covering many major parts and I could just purchase a warranty plan for $300 odd dollars to cover labor. They have zero pride in their product. I know the days of 30 year old appliances are gone, but 2 years - really????

Furthermore, their customer service people were aloof and rude. The best I can hope for is a class action law suit. Hopefully some law firm does a search that that term and stumbles upon these posts and takes action against them. This is what I get for buying made in America? We call a certified KitchenAid service agent, very helpful, but found no help via KitchenAid or Whirlpool. He was advised to order a board that we received a few days later.

The service technician returned only to find out it did not fix the problem. He was then advised by KitchenAid that it needed another part - part #W10219462. After some investigating, we were told by KitchenAid that that part was no longer available. I checked further and found a generic part that Sears claimed would work. That part was delivered, wrong part once again. We again called Sears and they ordered another part, which we received today, and it too was the wrong part. We were told by the Sears part department that they could not obtain that part. It was no longer made. This is a real problem. Here we are, left with this beautiful refrigerator that doesn't work because they no longer make the replacement part. I am not stopping here!

Refrigerator KSSC42QMS - I bought the above mentioned fridge in August 2004 for $5788 plus tax locally. I had remodeled an older house and redid the whole kitchen, bought commercial grade appliances in stainless steel. The fridge was the top of the line in 2004. Right before Christmas 2014 - 10 years later the fridge started to beep. We could tell there was something not working correct. We called the number on the sticker and were referred to an appliance repair shop. They came out and checked it. I paid $75. I was told that the board was going out and we would have to pay around $200 to have it replaced. Then we received a phone call where we were told "there are no more parts available". I was totally shocked. I can understand that that kind of fridges are not build anymore; but that you can’t supply replacement parts for a fridge which was $6000, that’s just not right.

Thanks to my son Bernhard, who is very handy and computer savvy, I didn't need to buy a new fridge. He checked online and read all the comments about the boards and the fridges, which were built up to 2007. There were different options for him: they offered to get a new board for $1500 which is the biggest joke, you can buy a nice fridge for that money! Or he could pay $20 for directions to repair the board, or just order the parts to fix the board. Since he didn't need the directions, he just ordered the replacement parts for the board. Obviously anybody can order those parts, just not the Kitchenaid Service Department or the Repair company! What a poor service!

To make a long story short: my son ordered parts to repair the board for $18. EIGHTEEN DOLLARS!!! And fixed it himself within 5 minutes! I’m very proud to have a son like him! I always thought Kitchenaid was a great major appliance brand, I guess I was totally wrong. I will never buy anything Kitchenaid.

In mid February I wrote a complaint about all the problems I had with my # kfis29 French door fridge. I contacted whirlpool who makes the unit and told them that when I call kitchen aid they wouldn`t do nothing for me! After a week the place that sold the unit to me who had nothing to do with the problem also called whirlpool and told them the story. Guess what? He told me to come in and pick out a new fridge of equal value and that whirlpool corp. was giving me a full refund.

So the store rep, told me that he had very little problems with GE and that if he did GE backed him 100% so I bought a GE French door, super quiet and they also threw in a 5-year extended warranty! PS DON`T GIVE UP! KEEP CALLING UNTIL THEY SATISFY YOU. WE PAID A LOT OF MONEY FOR THESE AND JUST WANT WHAT WE PAY FOR! THE STORE I USED WAS RICHMOND APPLIANCE, STATEN ISLAND NEW YORK! THEY’RE THE BEST FAMILY BUSINESS around.

    Original Review: Feb. 17, 2015

Wanted a great French door refrigerator, spent $2900.00 and got nothing but a headache. One problem after the next. Had ice hanging inside the refrigerator. They have done a fix for that I was told. Then it wasn’t getting cold, evaporator coil was icing up. They came out and said it needed a new compressor. PLEASE NOTE: I AM A LICENSED AIR CONDITIONING AND REFRIGERATION ENGINEER FOR THE CITY OF NEW YORK, it didn’t need a new compressor, all it needed was a new thermistor. They came back a week later and put in the compressor. Guess what? 2 days later the coil iced up again.

Called them, they came back and said it needed a thermostat (THERMISTOR LIKE I SAID). They put in a new thermistor and left. 1 week later it stopped making ice. I turn the circuit breaker off for ten minutes and put it back on again to re-calibrate the unit. The led in the ice maker came back on then went off again. Still no ice - that was last week and I’m still waiting to hear from them. Now to add insult to injury, tonight everything in the freezer is starting to get soft, had to throw out all the ice cream.

Ps. I am currently contacting a lawyer to see what can be done! I have had this junk for about 1 and 1/2 years and the warranty ran out after a year but because I paid with my credit card, they automatically double the warranty time so I have 6 months left. I want my money back and them to come and take this unit out! It`s not a Kitchenaid, it’s a WHIRLPOOL! I WILL TRY CONTACTING CHANNEL 7 EYEWITNESS NEWS FOR 7 ON YOUR SIDE AND SEE IF THEY WILL HELP!

The ice maker in our KSRL25SSFT is designed to FAIL regularly. The Ice Maker Assembly 2198587 draws a standard load when heating the mold BUT the Timer-Control Module W10190935 which has to control & pass the current, cannot handle the load. The module attempts to do its work using asian printed circuit board style copper traces and these burn our within months of being replaced. I DO NOT KNOW WHY I HAVE NOT SEEN IT BUT THERE SHOULD BE A CLASS ACTION SUIT ON THIS. Further, the mold attached to the Ice Maker Assembly will burn out (twice on us) because the Timer-Control Module during failure no longer limits the heating time. So it just burns out.

The water filter alert is on a simple clock timer. The lights that tell you your filter need changing are simply turned on after a given amount of time (somewhere between four and six months) irregardless of whether the filter needs changing or not and irregardless of whether you even have a filter installed or not. Further the filters, which begin changing the taste of the water, sometimes leak adding insult to injury. In a clean water environment, we do not believe the filters are necessary. Where is the proof that they even are working?

The defrost circuitry is controlled by a small thermostat/switch located behind the rear panel of the freezer section. After less than 24 months our freezer began building up ice and would no longer self-defrost. A ten cent part that cost us almost $200 to have changed. The interior had to be taken apart and stripped down to bare. Then the whole wall of the freezer had to be unscrewed and removed. This part could have been located on a removable module but NO, KITCHENAID HAD A BETTER IDEA AND BURIED IT IN THE UNITS ELECTRICAL WIRING.

AS A RESULT OF BELIEVING THAT YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR:

    1. We have to supply ice cubes using the old trays. We repaired the ice-maker four times and then said enough is enough. The attached receipt is just a sample cost.

    2. We discarded the water filter and run the box without it. The water tastes better now.

    3. Calling KitchenAid for information is like rubbing salt in a wound. KitchenAid will NOT provide any service information over the phone. They will only schedule a "service call". Secondly, their charges for what parts you can order are exorbitant and unfair. As a result we have to use on-line repair center databases that are open to the public to research technical information and we have to shop for wholesale prices to get parts we can afford.

See our review of the KITCHENAID RANGE HOOD KHTU705SS (poor quality lights) and the KITCHENAID DISHWASHER KUDIO1TLBS6 (front control panel & computer failures).

The ice maker leaks down and on to the floor and into the shelves. The middle large draw just comes out about 6 inches and it only closes when the doors close on it. The outside tray's paint had peeled (just before it was a year old). It works but for 2500 dollars this is a sorry piece of equipment and a real disappointment. I have a KitchenAid refrigerator that has a problem with the main circuit board. KitchenAid no longer has a company that can replace that board (manufacturing plant was destroyed in a Tsunami) and it cannot be repaired, according to them. They were offering me a pro-rated exchange of $5800, based on the age of my current refrigerator. A new one is priced at about $8000. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

After receiving the complaint from the BBB, a representative from Whirlpools' Product Review Board called me to process the exchange. I told her that $5800 was an unreasonable amount for me to have to pay to get my refrigerator replaced, given the fact that the parts and labor to fix it in the first place, should have only cost around $300. She spoke with her manager, who I believe is Jake **, and the pro-rated amount changed to $2300. She said that was their best offer and that I had 30 days to decide. It's not a perfect outcome, as we are still out of pocket the $2300, but I do think that filing the complaint with the BBB is what made them try harder to settle this issue. I highly recommend getting the BBB involved if you are experiencing issues with Whirlpool because in my case, they did follow through, and I had a better outcome because of it.

Called KitchenAid and get a very calm, no need to get excited because we never do anything about your complaints "voice", who "helps" me by scheduling someone to come look at it and pay them $99 for their trouble and then pay more to fix something that should not be broken!!!

Many a morning, we have gotten up to an overheated refrigerator because one or more of the doors did not close properly. Would not buy again and will replace soon.

The same model - a KitchenAid counter depth 29 inch depth refrigerator was put in our new kitchen by a reputable contractor, in addition to a new KitchenAid dishwasher, stove and in counter microwave. The refrigerator lasted exactly 22 months at which time the freezer stopped working. We called a service repair man and he noted that it was a very serious problem - the entire cooling unit of the refrigerator needed to be replaced and would cost $1500-1600 to repair. He advised we buy a new refrigerator. We are in the process of doing so, as the repair man said the refrigerator portion of it may last 2 days or 2 weeks. This is totally unacceptable. We contacted our kitchen contractor and he said he would call Whirlpool to see what they will do to remedy the situation. I would not want another KitchenAid appliance if they gave it to us for free.

KitchenAid Refrigerator KSSC48QMS01 - Do not buy this refrigerator. We bought a home with a beautiful custom kitchen with this KitchenAid refrigerator and it's just given us grief. Thank goodness we bought an insurance package to cover appliance repair. After three different repairmen and waiting weeks for parts to arrive, we found out most parts were not the right ones. Finally we got a Sr. tech guy to assess what was going on and we had to have the mother board sent out to be re-done. Well that seemed to do the trick, but 8 months later we are having issues again. Our insurance carrier would NOT insure the refrigerator. We ended up buying insurance from another carrier which should have told us something.

We have rented a refrigerator while new parts are being ordered. We have lost several full freezer and refrigerator loads of food. No fun. I have no confidence with this unit ever being repaired. It's built into its own lacquer custom cabinet. Ugh. We now have another rental refrigerator sitting outside on our patio as we wait two weeks for parts. Would I buy a KitchenAid unit again. No Way.....there is no help out there to fix this mess.

We purchased a stainless steel KitchenAid bottom freezer refrigerator in September 2013. It was fine for a year, but suddenly the PO sign showed up on display board and nothing has been right since then. Upon calling Whirlpool (30 minutes on phone) they suggested we call the repair companies listed on their website. First company we called was Diamond Repair and that guy fiddled around and since he could not figure out the problem, told us that the fault was with the outlet in our brand new built house! Ok, so we called the builder and they looked at it and declared it fine but changed it to a brand new one. Problem continued with the constant beeping and PO symbol on. Then I called Maytag company to look at it and that has been a nightmare. After the first tech left, our water dispenser that was working fine till then, stopped dispensing. They said that maybe it was a coincident that it failed and their tech was not at fault. What!!!

They are simply unhelpful. Their techs come out and between the two visits they have changed each and every circuit board, to no avail. Much to our chagrin, whenever I call Whirlpool customer service center, and speak to a manager, they make me repeat the problem, promise me that they will call back and I never hear from them!! One time they supposedly ordered new door for this fridge, but the tech from May-tag came with new circuit boards and did know anything about any door being ordered. I wash my hands off Whirlpool company. The fridge was clearly a lemon. In all the years of owning several refrigerators, this has by far been the worst fridge we have owned but the Whirlpool customer service has been pathetic, to say the least. I will make sure none of my next appliance is even partly owned by Whirlpool!

In 2010 my wife had her dream kitchen installed, which included all Kitchenaid Stainless Steel appliances. All top of the line. (Sadly, my wife died a year and a half later of cancer) It is now just me, and an occasional child home from college, so these appliances are getting very light use. The freezer on the bottom refrigerator started to fill with ice at the bottom, which destroyed the Cherry floor underneath. This was due to a clogged "duck valve", which is a two dollar part. The repairman said that "they all do it", and a replacement part that was modified was installed. The damage to the floor is estimated to be over a thousand dollars. The dishwasher has gone through two thermal fuses, and now won't cycle. I'm waiting for the repairman as I write this.

I will never recommend any Kitchenaid appliance to anyone, and my three kids who are all in the process of going out on their own will not either. My call to Kitchenaid for the refrigerator problem was not only unhelpful, but I ended up at a call center in who knows where. So, avoid this brand. I am so disgusted with the dishwasher that I am ready to have it replaced.

The repairman suggested that I buy another warranty and to keep buying them. He added that KitchenAid appliances are constantly breaking and the refrigerator was the worst appliance for reliability.

I purchased a new 1 year warranty and that was up 1 month ago. I did not renew the warranty this year due to recent unemployment. Now the thermostat is out and it is going to cost me $300.00. In April of 2014 we purchased an expensive KitchenAid refrigerator from Best Buy, later delivered & installed by Best Buy. The refrigerator was purchased for the ice machine and water filter. From the time we purchased the frig, the ice maker made very small ice cubes and then stopped making them all together. The frig began leaving a puddle of water on the floor, so we turned off the ice maker and I asked my husband to call KitchenAid, while the product was under warranty. He finally did and in September the first repairman came out from Quaker Appliance who said the product was installed improperly, then Best Buy, who came out and showed us the product was installed properly.

We went back to KitchenAid and they sent out Ace Appliance. The Ace Appliance repairman has been out here 6 - 7 times, replacing tubes that are broken, electric boards, the actual ice maker itself and still it does not work. We contacted KitchenAid today, after Ace Appliance did not show up for an appointment, and begged them to please end this and stand behind their product. I have had to take numerous half and whole days of vacation, resulting in greater cost to our family than we ought to bear.

When I pointed it out to the Supervisor after speaking with 2 customer service reps, she said that they will do nothing to replace the item until both a technician and the KitchenAid technician deem it unfixable. I asked how many times would that mean someone should have to schedule an appointment, take time off work and she said it could be once or 20 times. Her name was Shannon. We told her we were going to submit a complaint to BBB and she didn't seem to care. All the repairmen who have been out here have told us that KitchenAid will just wait for you to give up, toss a few dollars at you or keep wasting your time. They do not return their faulty products. This is what we were told from experienced technicians...

I was sent to a "review board" who got back to me within a couple weeks to relate to me I could purchase a new unit from them (I will never purchase another Whirlpool product ever again) and can get a 1,500 credit toward a new unit. So if you buy anything from these people don't expect it to last. Not only does it break but it is irreparable. Not to mention it is a racket. Our KitchenAid Wine Cooler is in its sixth year and stopped cooling this week. With most refrigeration this age you automatically assume it is just a premature leak of the Freon/coolant which is bad enough. However, the repairman (his trip cost $85 for the bad news) reported it was the evaporator that failed and the parts are already out of production/not available and therefore, the unit will have to be replaced. Whirlpool which owns KitchenAid confirmed the part is not available and that there was nothing they could do for us. Since we would have to replace it with another KitchenAid unit for reasons of fit and appearance, one would think they might do something monetarily for the consumer.

Ironically last evening at a New Year Eve's party we heard a very similar story involving a failed KitchenAid refrigerator that was only in its third warranty year. KitchenAid/Whirlpool should not be getting away with this fraud-- no consumer expects to "junk" a relatively new appliance because it breaks. When the class action lawsuit happens, Whirlpool will wish they had done right by their customers.

As it turns out, KitchenAid or Whirlpool used substandard capacitors in their control boards leading to premature failure. Mind you, this is a $6,000 refrigerator. When I contacted KitchenAid, they informed me that the part was no longer available due to a tsunami in Japan. KitchenAid referred me to an aftermarket control board manufacturer that wanted $800 for the part. They said that they used to have the boards repaired but that was no longer an option. After following the instructions on Steve Jenkins' blog, I was able to have the board repaired at Rockstar Computers in Upland, California. Total cost of the repair was $55.

After repeated phone conversations with KitchenAid in Michigan I have reached the sad conclusion that KitchenAid has defrauded its consumers by providing consumer products with defective parts and failing to provide the replacement parts in a timely and effective manner. This of course may be due to the Japanese tsunami, however it has been a number of years since that disaster and KitchenAid is undertaken not to find manufacturing facilities to manufacture this rather simple part. Nonetheless this situation may very well be designed to compel the owners of defective merchandise to purchase yet another KitchenAid product. In this respect this is consumer fraud.

Each time we contact them, we are assured that this next fix will be the last one (everything possible to replace has been changed at this point and we still are getting the runaround) and if it doesn't work, a replacement will be authorized. Sadly, after hearing this a minimum of 25 times, we just can't believe anything coming out of their mouths.

It looks as though I may have to replace this appliance and I can guarantee, it won't be with another Kitchen Aid. Please do more research before you purchase these appliances.

Had to have KitchenAid's preferred service company out to replace the duckbill drain with a p-trap to drain defrost cycle water as the duckbill clogs and overflows to bottom of freezer and had to chip out ice every few days. KA directed us to use the service as there is a service notice out on this model (so obviously KA knows about this issue), and KA says they have no intention of paying any part of the repair service. I would not recommend KitchenAid to anyone. If we still had wood floors instead of having recently replaced them with tile, the floors would be ruined.

I did not install the water/ice maker yet in fear that I would have problems and have laminate wood flooring that warps easily when water sits. I have not called service yet but luckily bought the extended warranty. Tonight it leaked from both sides. I cannot hear a noise but apparently my cats can, since they were stuffing around right before it leaked out both sides by the rollers.

In 2006, we remodeled our kitchen, and in that process invested in Kitchen Aid appliances, including a side by side built-in stainless steel refrigerator. On August 11, 2014, the refrigerator stopped cooling, and we were told that the main control board needed to be replaced, and so the odyssey began. At the beginning of this ordeal, we were told that the part in question was ordered, was then on back-order, and would be shipped to our home in about three weeks. After three weeks, however, we were then told that the part was no longer manufactured because the factory was "destroyed by a Tsunami" two years ago! We acted on the corporation's advice to send the defective board to Core Centric, which until very recently, Whirlpool was recommending to its customers in our same situation. Core Centric could not repair it, and we then sent the board to a company in Texas, also to no avail. The appliance repairman that we have been dealing with then ordered the part from Amazon/Sears, paid for it, waited two weeks for delivery, and when he contacted Sears, was told that the order was cancelled.

After calling Whirlpool again, I was told that my "file" would be referred to a "special department" for possible inclusion in their "pro-rated exchange program." I was told today that such a program would be offered to us because the company is supposed to provide parts for their appliances for ten years, and our appliance is less than ten years old. How lucky I feel to find out that I can "exchange" my eight-year-old built-in, which we purchased because it was marketed as an appliance that you repair, not replace, for the sum of $7,204.15!!! I was told that the new purchase price for my model would be $8,299.00. After further discussion, I was then told that the lowest price I could be offered to exchange my refrigerator, that cannot be repaired because the corporation has breached their obligation to provide parts for ten years for, would be $6,000.00. I was also told by the representative that I spoke with that she hears this same story all day long from other customers. SHAME ON YOU KITCHEN AID/WHIRLPOOL!!! (As an aside, thank God that my 20 year old Kenmore refrigerator in our garage still works perfectly, because we have now been without a kitchen refrigerator for 14 weeks).

KitchenAid Refrigerator/Freezer, Model: KFFS20EYWH00 - Purchased in 2012, this model has double doors and a freezer drawer below. The gaskets on the doors include, at the lower inside edge, a flange. I don't know its purpose. In this instance, the flange on the right-hand door became torn simply from opening and closing the doors. We contacted a repair person, who collected the $95 price and ordered from KitchenAid a new gasket, but KitchenAid no longer offers it in white (like the original) so we had to accept grey. When it arrived he came to install it. It was about 1/4 inch too short in the length. We thought it was his error. We researched and found the gasket online, but also talked to a KitchenAid rep who agreed we'd found the right one, so we ordered it. It came; it was exactly like the one ordered by the repairman- just a little too short. We returned it, with a letter (one copy sent with the return, the other mailed directly). We have heard NOTHING from KitchenAid. It's strange and frustrating that they aren't making a replacement gasket in white, but a lot stranger and more frustrating that they offer a so-called replacement that isn't the right size.

We purchased a Kitchenaid refrigerator 29 CF model KFIS29bbms (french doors upper/ freezer below) for $2500 exactly 1 year and 2 days ago. The ice maker began to operate sporadically 3-4 days ago. Then 2 days ago the freezer quit (although we didn't realize it till last night). Today, we called Kitchenaid - they said warranty ran out two days ago!! They said "too bad you are out of warranty"! After getting a supervisor on the phone the best we could get was Kitchenaid would pay for parts but we are stuck paying for service call and labor. They said a service man would be out in 3 days.

So in the meantime we have moved all of our food to our 13 year old General Electric 'beer' fridge in the garage. The GE still works fine, we paid about $800 for it new back then - so it now has to carry the load for our $2500 Kitchenaid piece of junk. I wish I had read these reviews before making this purchase as it appears many other people are having the problems as us.

Repair tech said the seal looked good and, based on his experience, the factory fix was to put silicon sealant on the fridge to seal any seams or gaps. He was correct.

My position: I expressed to the repair tech and to the factory trouble call reps that silicon sealant is not a permanent fix. The freezer seals installation, or seal design, or seal installation, or structure alignment, or something else was defective and that I was not in favor of applying silicon sealant to fix a manufacture defect. I also called RC Willey, the place of purchase and where I also purchased a five year warranty and expressed my issues. They deferred to the factory. If silicon sealant fixes this defect, why don't the display/floor models have it on them?

The "stainless steel" started to show rust spots all over both doors. You cannot fill your glass with ice from the dispenser in the left door when the right door is open which is very annoying. The left door does not close all the way when you swing it shut. It looks closed and the "open light" goes off but it does not make a seal and you have to push it to shut all the way. It is extremely loud when it makes ice. The water filter replace sign came on after about 3 months and the filters are about $50 each and it beeps at you 3 times when you get water until you replace the filter which is very annoying.

I called about 9 months before the warranty ran out and they sent some guy who was trained to tell me it was everything else in my kitchen that was wrong except the refrigerator. I called again about a month later because the rust was getting worse and the second guy that came out said the doors needed to be replaced and that he would order them. It has been about six months and still no doors and now it is out of warranty. DO NOT BUY A KITCHENAID!! And take a magnet when you go shopping for stainless steel because magnets stick to KitchenAids!

We bought our KitchenAid Built-In Refrigerator in 2008 for approx $7,500. We have had several issues with the Ice Maker. However, this week, the Main Controller Board went out and had to be repaired. The authorized repair company told us that the Board had been discontinued by KitchenAid and they would work to get the board repaired. I called KitchenAid and eventually got through to someone that explained that the company that produced this board is located in Japan and was hit by the Tsunami and can no longer provide the board. Also, we are out of warranty and this is now our problem.

My issue is that I had expectations that this high-end expensive refrigerator would last more than 6 years. A built in refrigerator should be repaired not replaced. I find it unacceptable that KitchenAid wouldn't have a Dual Source for this key component to the refrigerator. Bottom Line - Very Disappointed in KitchenAid!

I echo what others have posted about Kitchenaid's KFIS29 french door refrigerator - a total disappointment, buyers remorse, and Whirlpool must spend a lot of time and money making sure the people who answer the phone at their Customer experience Center are extremely polite while offering no solutions. From date of installation, Aug. 2013, the fridge never kept beverages and food in the upper unit cold, regardless of temp setting, the freezer simply could not keep items frozen, and the unit is loud. I chalked this off to the ill effects of being energy efficient. In the summer of 2014 I placed my first service call because the ice maker stopped making ice (never made much to begin with), the already high noise levels had increased, and the upper unit would not get below 43 degrees. When the repairman arrived, there was nothing I could tell him about the unit that he was not already very aware of. I was told I needed "the kit" and naturally "the kit" had to be ordered and I was told I had to call a special number at Whirlpool and order "the kit". What an ordeal that was. In the mean time, the fridge started making a very loud sound like an impact hammer.

Repairman can back out and found a huge amount of ice build up on the evaporator. The fan blades were hitting the ice causing the noise. Ice removed, problem solved, at least for a while. A few days later the the freezer was frosting up so another call to the repairman. The freezer door gasket was faulty and had to be corrected. Finally, the parts needed to fix the ice maker situation arrived. "The kit" was to correct the issue with low ice production, frost build up between ice maker and rear of the fridge, and to correct the problem with water dripping down and onto the evaporator coils and freezing. The control panel and a couple of other parts were also replaced. All good? Not exactly. The fridge still was not cooling, water was leaking from ice bin, and the noise level was still very high. Trying to get this thing fixed within warranty period, I call for service once again. The repairman and Whirlpool tech center ran tests and determined I needed a new evaporator and several other parts related to the cooling system. I called the Customer experience Center and requested a new unit.

I was politely told that I had not had enough problems to warrant a replacement and that as long as the unit was + or - 5 degrees of the recommended temp settings (37 upper / 0 freezer) it was considered acceptable. Do not know about you but 43 or higher degree milk is not good and ice cream is suppose to melt after you take it out of the freezer. I was told by a Supervisor that since I had experienced some problems with the unit they would extend my factory warranty for six months. I was told if the parts on order did not correct the issues we could talk about a replacement then. OK, all the parts came in and were installed. Things appeared to be good for about two months except for the fact that around 37 degrees is as cold as the upper unit appears to be able to do, 34 would be my preference. In mid Oct 2014 I noticed low ice production, the noise level increasing, water dripping from the ice bin again, and there is frost building up again between the ice maker and back of the fridge again.

I called the Customer experience Center to discuss replacement. I was told that since it had been more than 30 days since the repairs I would have to have a repairmen come out and and get on a call with tech support and diagnose the problem and oh, by the way, the unit is no longer under factory warranty. I advised that I had been told and assured that my factory warranty had been extended for 6 months. I was basically told that I was not told that and it would be impossible for that to occur. When I provided the name and date that I was told the warranty was extended I was told there was no one there by that name. It should be noted that only two people live in the house and thus it is not like the fridge is in a constant state of opening and closing and so on.

To sum up, I have had to take off work 7 times for the fridge to be looked at and actual repairs to be made. I have absolutely no confidence that any further repairs will produce long lasting results. Looking at the dates of comments about the KFIS29, it appears no changes have been made to the fridge since people are reporting the same problems on units recently purchased as people who purchased them a year or more ago have experienced. If you are looking for a french door fridge you might want to not have this one on your short list.

After the warranty expired, I purchased an extended warranty due to several issues that occurred while the original warranty was still active. The refrigerator itself has been fine. The freezer is where the trouble lies. The arms that roll the drawer open have been replaced because they rusted preventing the door to close completely. That in turn froze the water line which needed to be thawed. The entire drawer had to be taken out for the service provider to fix it. The seal has been replaced because it was not working properly which caused ice build up in the freezer which in turn once again caused problems with the water line. The drawer is supposed to close on its own after a gentle push but does not. We did not know that until once again the freezer developed ice buildup. As I really like bottom freezers, I have not been happy with particular product. I would not recommend this product.
