On Nov. 1, 2005 we purchased a new KitchenAid refigerator. On May 12, 2006 we woke up to a warm refigerator. We have had 5 service calls and 5 new parts install and still no refigeration. KitchenAid and Whirlpool consumer service dept are not helpful and refuse to replace the entire appliance. They say its repairable and guess at what parts are broken. I guess at some point they may find the problem, but a what cost to my family.

The first 2 weeks I had to use a cooler. After that I had to go out and purchase a small refigerator and purchase new food on a daily basis.

I purchased a new high end KitchenAid refrigerator in August of 2004. In February of 2005 it stopped working. The door that send cold air from the freezer to the refrigerator froze shut and the freezer back was coated with a large block of ice. It took three months to be repaired (under warranty). Quess what? Today, 4/1/06 it has done it again. I have a call in and we will see what happens. The thing is an expensive hunk of junk. I would never buy a Kitchen Aid applicance again.

When the refrigerator went out they sent a repairman in about a week. He ordered parts that took three months to arrive and then have installed. In the meantime all the food in the freezer and the refrigerator had to be thrown away (hundreds of dollars worth). They told me to buy blocks of ice to keep my food cold. I called repeatedly explaining that having a family of five without refrigeration for three months was ridiculous. I called repeatedly to the store where I bought it and they finally after two months brought a loaner refrigerator. I doubt they will do that again.

The inconvenience was having to shop daily for our meals or eat out. Can't have anything for breakfast, such as cereal since couldn't have milk. Children had to buy lunches everyday at school since no way to make lunches without a refrigeration. The whole process cost me a large increase in our food bills for the three months. I expect the same treatment from KitchenAid this time too.

The refrigerator stopped cooling and then the freezer stopped working. We lost all food in the side by side unit. The result was that it took more than a week to get it fixed because we were told if it was not warnanty work, We would not receive priority. And then the part was $250 for a 3 year old side by side unit. This does seem to be a large expense for a unit that is susposed to be a top of the line product, and only 3 years old. And then to have to replace the entire cooling electronics, this seems to be a rip of on the consumers part. The part replaced is 220512rev.rel circut board

I have now tried just about every way to get in touch with these people, in the states and Canada, NO RESULTS. Can you get an answer for me? A copy of the letter is as follows.

Model KSRA25FKSSOO. For the past few weeks the fridge has been emitting this very strange smell. My wife has now broken out into an allergic reaction and has now seen two doctors. A little history on this unit. It was purchased at Sears on Dec 19, 2002. We have now had a serviceman here 4 times, mostly for the same problem. The unit would go into over temp and beep. This would happen on a very regular basis. First the tech said that the temp was set too low freezer @ -3 and fridge @ +36 at the time he changed the water filter and left. Problem continued and called him back. He said yes there is a problem with the unit and replaced the control board.

This lasted 1 week and the unit would automatically go to 0 in the freezer and no constant number in the fridge and again always beep but as well there was an odor emitting from the fridge and freezer. Called them back again and he again changed the control unit as well as the diffuser air assembly unit. The beeping seem to stop but this odor like a chemical or gas type smell (THIS IS NOT A ROTTEN FOOD TYPE SMELL) is coming from the fridge itself, from within. If the door is not opened for a while the smell is very strong. Also I can taste the same smell or odor. While we had the serviceman here he said the smell was nothing and common. Let's hope not.

Since then my wife has broken out into a rash along with an ear infection and her entire face into something like hives. Not a pretty sight and I must admit she's NOT happy. She went to the hospital and they gave her some medicine said it should clear up. It hadn't and went to our own doctor two days later on Monday, who said it was an allergic reaction and should stop using what ever it is. The doctor had prescribed other medicine as well. WE have now tried to think of every possible thing and the reaction is still present and the only thing left is this odor from the fridge.

I do not believe it to be freon as if it were the fridge would not be cold by now and would be constantly running and it is not. If it were oil the compressor would more than likely have already have stopped and be seized by now so I would think. Now I know it is NOT food as my wife is very clean and the fridge has been cleaned, everything. This odor seems to be stronger at the bottom of the fridge than the top, but again cold air drops. If it has not been opened for a few hours then as soon as you open the door I could be sitting 15 feet away and can still easily smell it. All of the food in the fridge, raw and cooked, has now taken this smelly taste. This includes the freezer. I am now becoming an unhappy camper.

Do you have any idea what this odor is so we can get it repaired before my wife becomes any more ill. At least I can tell the service technician what it is and get it repaired ASAP. We really like your products. We do have a number of them as your quality is by far about the best on the market (I hope your service is too), that is why most all of our appliances small and large are KitchenAid. Please do not reply it is not your product that is emitting this odor and possibly making my wife react to an allergic reaction. WE MUST KNOW. Thanking you in advance for your quick reply for a solution to this problem and mostly get my wife looking and feeling great again.

We purchased a refrigerator from Kitchen Aid one year ago. We have had 4 repairs and are awaiting our 5th. We are very unhappy with this appliance that we spent $2800.00 for. It is a cabinet depth side by side mod. #KSCS25FKSS01.... Serial #SM 284590... Parts are constantly falling off of it. The lights after being repaired once are now blinking. The doors have condensation coming through them in 2 round spots... The water through the door works when it wants. The light covers will not stay on, etc....

We have spoken to Kitchen Aid many times and have ask for them to replace this appliance. They will not... They say they will only repair the unit... This is not acceptable. We are to the point that we are being treated very rude by their customer service people and wish to resolve this by returning the appliance and getting a full refund from Kitchen Aid. They should stand behind their products not hope that the consumers who purchase from them will go away when a problem arises.

My wife and I built a new home 5/2000 and purchased all KitchenAid appliances, including a built-in refrigerator for approximately $3500. 8/2001, the refrigeration went out, and was serviced by Guinco Services; a certified KitchenAid repair company. On 2/2003, the refrigeration went out again and some of the same parts including the compressor were replaced. Again on 5/2003, the refrigeration went out for a third time. 9/19/2003, the ice maker went out, and as of 9/28/2003, the refrigeration has gone out for a forth time as all frozen food has thawed. The refrigerator has a 3-year warranty which expired 5/2003.

We have experienced 5 problems in 3 years 4 months, and currently have a $3500 lemon of a refrigerator that has never worked longer than 15 months; in fact, the refrigeration has gone out 3 times in the last 7 months of this year. KitchenAid has responded negatively to multiple requests to replace the refrigerator with a more trustworthy unit free from manufacturer defects. In addition, KitchenAid refuses compensate for any inconveniences or financial losses, indicating that such losses are not covered under their warranty.

Purchased a KitchenAid refrigerator in September 2002. Was told by sales person it was top of the line. I have since had 13 service calls on the ice maker. It is the one with the ice bucket in the door. The machine has jammed every week. A&E is the first service company to come out and there service was down right lousy… missing appointments, not having the parts on board, not ordering the correct parts, etc. Then I was told that Sears does the repair work also. Sears has been here every time they say they are coming. They have most parts on the truck and do an excellent job. BUT cannot fix the problem. They were here again this morning second time this month and replaced the main guts of the ice machine. Only to have it still not work.

He has referred this to his service manager who, I am sure will be back out here. But in the meantime I am without an icemaker, I am missing work, and am having to purchase ice. I called the headquarters AGAIN today and they are referring it to the review board to see what can be done. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was refused. I will keep on top of this and will demand an answer soon. I will become a pest to Whirlpool. But in the meantime, I will tell everyone I know that Whirlpool and KitchenAid are not worth buying. Missed 13 mornings of work, at 80.00 a morning. And the convenience of owning an icemaker in the door is lost to me. I paid big bucks for the refrigerator. The salesperson said it was top of the line. I would hate to see the problems with the bottom of the line.

We purchased a KitchenAid built-in refrigerator (KBLS36MHX) when we remodeled our kitchen in 2001. The refrigerator was placed in service in April of 2001 (after the final electrical inspection on our addition). The unit failed in July of 2002. A&E Factory Service was dispatched to repair the unit. They diagnosed a failed compressor and a heater pan and they replaced those components. This was not quick or convenient. They scheduled two appointments that they did not keep, forcing me to take time off from work needlessly. In any event, we called for service around the first of July and the unit was not repaired until July 27.

Now a mere 8 months later, the refrigerator has failed again. This time the technicians are replacing the entire sealed system, including the compressor, coils, heater pan, condenser and associated tubing. They are working on the refrigerator as I write this. Frankly, I have very little confidence in this unit and am wondering how I can go about getting the refrigerator replaced if this repair fails? Frankly, I can't afford to take time off work every 8 months to wait around for repair folks to fix a refrigerator which should have a service life of at least 15 years. This was an expensive unit ($3,425 + Tax + installation + door panels = over $4,500) and the customer service we've received has been less than satisfactory. Fortunately, we kept our old refrigerator in the garage and it is 15+ years old but works perfectly, which is something I can't say about the KitchenAid.

We purchased a very expensive ($2,145.00) refrigerator from KitchenAid on May 30, 2001 and during the last four months, we have had three service calls and as a result have loss over $200.00 in refrigerated food due to the failure of this product. So far I have tried unsuccessfully to have this product replaced due to the manufacturer’s unwillingness to satisfy my request. I'm forty-five years and have never heard of anyone having as many problems with a new refrigerator. I currently have a service contract, but my desire is to receive a full refund so I may buy another brand. I have a wife and three year to take care of and as a result of the continued failure of this product, I have loss over $200.00 in food. The service contract provides reimbursement for food loss, up to a maximum of $200.00. I'm afraid my losses will far exceed that amount due to the products continued failure. Please Help.

I purchased a KitchenAid refrigerator/freezer 12/95. Since it has been placed at my residence I have had a total of 6 service calls to fix a problem with leaking Freon. This refrigerator cost me $3649.00 and it is still not working up to par. The last service man informed me that they have problems with the leaking Freon on all these models, therefore I must have a lemon. I have gotten nowhere with the KitchenAid representatives and have found one woman to be quite rude. How would she like to live out of an ice chest for a week??? I would like to know if others are experiencing the same problem with this model #KSSS420DX00. I have lost on two occasions all the food in my freezer, had to remove every item and clean up ice cream that has melted. I have had to miss work to wait for repairmen. This has been very stressful on me.

Repeated services have been called in respectively on May 29, 2002, May 30, 2002, May 31, 2002, and June 3, 2002. KitchenAid not only sells defective merchandise they also have poor quality relationships with their clients. Not only is technical support insufficient they seem to lack the quality of telling the truth. Such as when service is scheduled and no technician to repair unit using lame excuses such as calling in sick with no backup. Then to clock in 30 minutes of servicing the refrigerator on the day of illness when he never set foot in the residence. Especially looks bad when the client was observing the Whirlpool KitchenAid service truck sitting outside the driveway. These technician lack all forms of technical expertise regarding digital equipment providing client with poor quality answers. Stating that if the CPU is at fault then the unit will be rendered inoperatable once the it shuts down. What kind of assinine reply is that? This refrigerator only works when it has been slapped hard from frustration before the CPU would allow the icemaker to generate ice. If KitchenAid knows that the CPU is defective initially why not provide your technician with the right parts to repair the unit rather than change all the brand new parts in it before you address the real problem? I am just waiting for this unit to cease all functions very soon. By the way it was manufacturered on April 19, 2002.

I purchased the top of the line KitchenAid refrigerator. It cost $4,000. It does not work. Not at all. I have not had a refrigerator for 2 months. Sears has been out to service 6 times in the last seven weeks. They have replaced parts 4 times. They say the unit is garbage and probably can not be repaired. Today, 4/19/01, I have now been told that the latest set of parts are on back order until 5/3/02, so another 2 weeks without a refrigerator. I get no satisfaction from KitchenAid except that they are sorry. Always they are sorry, but that's it. I have heard from Sears that there are a number of people out there with this model that does not work and that they can't be repaired. KitchenAid, I have heard does usually replace them after months of attempting to fix them. If anyone else is experiencing the same level of problems and pathetic service and is interested in filing or participating in a class action lawsuit, please let me know.

I took delivery of a KitchenAid, counter depth, side-by-side refrigerator/freezer. The freezer immediately began frosting severely and one of the motors made a terrible grinding noise. We have had Desears tech's out now 5 times. On the third visit they replaced the door seal, no effect. On the fourth visit they replaced the motor and used commercial silicon sealer on the door, which cosmetically looked like gunk. No results. Last trip the tech called Whirlpool techs (this was the second such call) and they promised they would get us an answer on replacement within 48 hours. That was on 3/14/02. It is now 3/22/02. I have called them 3 times and each time the customer service rep says it is still under review.

My wife and I recently purchased the refrigerator mentioned above and we are very unhappy. Before we bought, we called KitchenAid's pre-buy unit and advised them that we wanted a refrigerator that would look built in. They told us to buy a counter depth refrigerator, from the Architect Series. We have standard depth counters, 24 inches. They also sent us a brochure which showed the refrigerator looking as if it was built in.

When the refrigerator was delivered, we pushed it and it stuck out well beyond the counter - about 3 inches. It most definitely did not look built-in! In order to get the look we wanted, we opened up the wall behind the refrigerator and tried to shave it down to create the flush look we had wanted, but there were pipes behind the refrigerator, and after spending an extra $500, we were back where we started.

I called KitchenAid, and they suggested that a trim kit might do the trick. I asked if they could send me a brochure showing the trim kit. "The answer was "no." They have no brochure. I called various dealers in Los Angeles, including several very large ones, and no one had the trim kit in stock and on display.

I then said to them that, "I had tried everything I could think of to see if I wanted to order a trim kit." So I asked them what I could do to look at the trim kit and see if it would work for me. Finally, they agreed to sell us a trim kit and direct ship it with a right to return it for 30 days.

When we got the trim kit, it was 6 inches too short. When we tried to install it, it looked silly. So we called KitchenAid and they advised us that they don't make trim kits for the Architect Series counter-depth refrigerators. They only make them for their standard height refrigerators.I called and complained. After getting nowhere, I finally reached a supervisor. She said that there is nothing they can do for us. They won't take it back. They won't compensate us. She said there is no defect in the refrigerator. I said, "We are out lots of money, don't have the refrigerator we want and will be stuck looking at this for years." She said this is not a defect in the refrigerator, but is a defect in their customer service.

Bottom line? Their customer service does a very poor job, their pictures are misleading, they don't have proper parts and they are unwilling to help customers who have problems.

I purchased KitchenAid side by side refrigerator from EBA Wholesalers and when I got the refrigerator hooked up, it was not working. Then I called EBA Wholesalers and they told me that I need to call KitchenAid. When I called KitchenAid, they told me that I need to get a technician out, before they can exchange it and I agreed on it. When the technician came, he told me that the computer board and some other part must be changed and that is why the refrigerator is not working. He also advised me that it will take some time to get the parts in.

Then I called KitchenAid and explained that I'm without a refrigerator for a week and that the technician doesn't know when the parts will be available and I asked them me to provide me with exchange authorization code, so I can exchange the refrigerator. They told me that they will not do it, that I will have to wait for the part. Then, I agreed to have the refrigerator repaired and they ordered the part and advised me that I will receive it on Tuesday. When Tuesday came, no parts were delivered and when I called KitchenAid, they started giving me a runaround and telling me that I have to be patient.

Waited few days, no parts were delivered and every time I called them, told me that it was mailed and that they don't even have tracking number. Then I found out the parts are on back order until next year and they still didn't want to exchange the refrigerator. They told me to buy another or rent one, until they get the part. Meanwhile I spent $2,348 for refrigerator and $1,500 fro the stove. In other words, it's more than two weeks and they don't want to replace the broken one or fix. The only thing that they tell me is to go and buy another one or rent. I need help in getting my money back or getting a replacement.

I purchased a Kitchen Aid Model KTRS22K 21.6 cu.ft. refrigerator 5 years ago. For approximately 2 years, I have occasionally noticed small flecks of material in the ice cubes from my ice maker. I assumed these flecks were from my public water supply. However, in recent months, the flecks became flakes and larger. Because most of my appliances are Kitchen Aid and I consider myself to be an excellent customer, I wrote to the company for information. They informed me that the flakes were from the paint chipping off the inside of the ice maker, denied any liability and referred me to a repair facility. I was shocked! There was no concern about my family and I ingesting paint flakes for who knows how long, just a flat denial of responsibility.
