I have a GE washer that is three years old. I called a repairman out due to the loud noise it is making. He said that the transmission is going out and said it would be a $250.00 repair. He also stated that this was the second one in a week he had a call on. He told me to call GE and if they would not help, let it run till it stop and buy a new one. Am I the only person that feels a washer that is used for two people should last more than three years? This washer is situated behind doors in my kitchen; because of the noise it makes, we cannot stand to be in the kitchen while the washer is running. As far as that goes, we can't stand to be in the living room either.
We called GE and they said the only thing they would do is sell us the transmission for $127.00. This is supposed to be a break. Normal cost is $155.00. After I pay for installation, it will cost $250.00. That means in three years I will be paying over 1/2 the cost of the washer to have it repaired. I was told that is why they sell extended warranties. I feel that if you put out good money for a product, you should get more than three years of service from it. They used to guarantee the transmissions for five years - they no longer do that. I wonder why! After checking the internet, I have found loads of complaints regarding GE washers and the transmission problems many others have experienced. This sounds like an ongoing lemon law problem.

For the past six months, I have been requesting for a change of product I had purchased in the Famsa Furniture store located in Bell Gardens, CA, California. The problem is that I had bought a washing machine model #WWSE5240GWW in Dec. 2008 and since I have had it, I only have problems with it. The belt broke, the transmission busted and now the motor is jammed and I had to ask the store to please help me out with this problem and they're in no case on me asking and asking. I don't get help no matter what I've done, so if you guys or someone could please help me out.

I bought a GE washer in Sept. 08. It never seemed to clean the clothes well and it made a very high squeal noise. Sometimes, the water would remain even after the spin cycle and soap deposits were left on the clothes. I called for service and they said that it needed a new transmission. After 3 months of still having problems, I called for service again and was told that it needed a new transmission again. This new washer now has had 3 transmissions and again, it's not working. GE refuses to replace my washer. It's only 7 months and they said that they will fix it (again) even though it will cost them almost double this time to fix it than it would for me to go down the street to buy a new one. I can't understand the logic in this. Here I am trying to keep our family's clothing clean and ready for my children to go to school each day and it now has become impossible. What can I do?

On January 16th, 2009, I had the washer GE AS108145g delivered. It made noise from the get go. I went to the store; they told me I had to talk to GE Service. They wanted me to wait and break it in. It was breaking in noise. After 20 minutes of the runaround, I told him, "I demand a service call." The service call got canceled due to the man being out sick. The next day, he came and said, "It needs to be broken in." The break was tight and he proceeded to open the top to stop the spinning about 20 times. He left.
It still made all the noise and was not washing clothes. I was ending up going to laundromats and neighbors' houses to catch up on the wash, carrying wet clothes home to dry. I went back to the store and told them of problems with the serviceman and still all the noise and it not washing. I need to have another service call before Home Depot can do anything. A different man came when I requested the same serviceman. This man said he was out sick; they sent him instead. He took the front panel off and said that it needed a new transmission.
I said, "I want a new machine. I paid for a new machine, not a rebuilt one." He said, "I will put that in my report but the decision is not up to me." I heard nothing from GE till I called and said, "What is up?" I went back to Home Depot and told them of this nonsense of a rebuilt machine. Linda called and got the same story and runaround as I did. They are willing to fix the machine. She did not document the information in my file.
I am now waiting for the man to come and the part to be delivered to my house today before he gets here. There is no part yet. When I talked to the manager, Maureen, at Home Depot yesterday, she thought GE would have replaced it after the second serviceman. So she called the Home Depot GE rep. They are going to get back to me. It's fit to be tied and I told my kids that their kids are never to buy a GE appliance. They should be so ashamed of their service department and phone people.

I purchased a GE washer in 6/08. It was a defective unit. GE sent repair people here 3 times. Parts were replaced. Still, it was not functioning correctly. GE agreed to upgrade the model and deliver a new machine. New machine was delivered today. It leaked water in my driveway and the model was the same and the push button to start the machine was worn out. You could see fingerprints from usage. The delivery was refused. The delivery people took the old defective machine as well. I have no washer machine.

I have a GE washer/dryer that has a service contract and the parts were ordered by the technician and delivered right away. However, they needed 2 people to do the job. They made an appointment without telling me and when I changed it, they did not come and then they had no record of the service call. I was furious and rescheduled again for today. I called this morning and confirmed that they are coming and when no one showed up for hours, I called again and was told the appointment was for tomorrow. They are incompetent and the service is just terrible. You call the 800 line and either get hung up on or get someone who just does not know what they are doing. This costs the consumer time and money.

I purchased a front load washer and dryer in February 2007. It does not spin properly; therefore, the clothes come out soaking wet. Also, the front seal has torn. Our clothes come out stinking and not clean at all. Take a cloth from the washer that has been washed on hot, on the longest cycle, put in a bucket of clean water and wring it out and your water is dirty. We are on our 4th washer. The store owner replaced the first 3 and GE did bring out the 4th one on April 9, 2009. Guess what? This piece of junk does not work either. It took me 7 hours to do 2 loads, with trying to get them to spin and drain.
I called the 800 number after the weekend and finally heard from them 5 days later. They say that they have to send out a technician and see what he has to say before they go any further. Between 2 machines (because the second one we only had for 1 day), they have replaced 10 pumps; 4 inverter boards; timers and belt. Not one solved the problems. Other reasoning the tech gave us was maybe your using too much soap, not the correct soap, not big enough loads, too large of loads. Grasping at straws, as far as I can tell. Also, we were told that we were the only ones with problems. Ha! I have now shipped off a letter to the address on the back of the manual with a request for a buyback.

When we built our house in 1991, we purchased all GE appliances (dishwasher, cooktop, oven/microwave, refrigerator, washer and dryer). Within a very short time, we began to have problems with everything one after the other. Within the last two years, we had to replace our washer and dryer. Now my washer will not spin. It won't do anything but fill up with water and drain. My clothes are full of water when it finishes. I am so frustrated with GE appliances. I really don't know what to do. Can someone tell me what has happened?

This machine had problems from the beginning of purchasing this washing machine. Even up to now, I have experienced nothing but the same. Always had problems of spinning the water out and leveling, even to the extreme of knocking holes in the wall because of such. I contacted GE and they sent a tech out - Mike **, tech #**. They replaced several things. When I initially called them (and I would have contacted them earlier, but I was experiencing health issues which took precedent over this purchase) they did extend the warranty out to 2-1-09.
Still it has little pieces of very hard plastic breaking off around the top of the machine and grabbing onto clothes, etc. Now I just feel like I am stuck with this piece of junk. I called back to discuss this warranty situation, etc. and to date, I have heard nothing. I am disabled and I can't afford to purchase anything else. I as well can't take my clothes to and from the laundry facility, so I have no idea as to what I need to do now.

Lowe's told me to contact GE for repairs since it is under warranty. GE sent a technician on 2 occasions. The machine is not working. It is doing the same thing. I requested a new washing machine. Before confirming, I called GE and now their records only shows the name of the new company that called. So I confirmed with the new company. The bearing went out on my GE profile washer. When I had an appliance technician come out to check it, I was told that it would be almost $500 to fix it. I looked around for the part I needed and the GE part was $336. Well, what GE doesn't tell you is that Frigidaire’s parts fit their stackable washers and dryers. I ended up purchasing the needed part for $190 and that included shipping and taxes. Had I not looked into different comments from other users, I would have ended up buying a whole new washer or a very expensive part. I want to make the public aware of a much less expensive option.

Like many other customers, I too have had nothing but horrible experiences in regards to fixing my GE Washing Machine. My machine has been broken since Dec 2008. I have had the repair man out to my home more times than I can count. He told me that he informed GE that a new machine was necessary. GE had the audacity to tell me they will not replace my machine until they see if it will be cost-effective for their company. I explained to them having a machine not working for almost 3 months is not cost-effective for me. I also stated that I have children under the age of 5 and going to the laundromat was not an option, as well as that I will not go and shouldn't have to because I purchased their machine not to.
I mentioned to Susan (GE REP) that I feel as though I should be compensated for all the hassles that their company has caused by not working at a faster rate to repair/replace their failing products. This is not to mention that I only had the machine working for less than 2 weeks after it was fixed again before it broke down this last time. The lady did not care, was not interested in anything I had to say. I am glad to see in these tough economic times that GE is willing to let a loyal customer go because they want to save a dollar. I am now in the process of having my money refunded for the machine, since they told me today that they can't fix it. They wanted to replace it with a smaller, non-comparable replacement washer. I said NO THANKS. I will get my money back and will never buy another GE appliance again. HORRIBLE.

I purchased a GE washing machine (Model # WHDSR209G2WW Serial #DM125999G) for my mother in Jun 2007, and not even a year later, the knob broke and needs to be repaired. I called and spoke with Mrs. ** ID# ** and Richard ID# **, and both of them stated that for a service charge of $79.00, they would have the GE service technician come out and repair the machine. After inspection of the washer I noticed the knobs are stripped, and after more investigating (I went to Home depot and looked at the other GE washers), a number of the knobs at the store were also broken. Another consumer in the store stated the knobs on GE washers always strip and are hard to replace. This is not a good thing and the customer service was not good either. I have to say that I thought GE was the way to go, but experience has taught me better.

I bought a GE washer in 09/08. It broke down in 01/09. It has been three weeks and it is yet to be fixed. They told me it needed a new transmission and computer. The parts have been shipped to me. They are here, but the tech never showed. Supposed to be here 8AM-5PM... It is now 10:11PM. They said he would arrive. In the beginning, the customer service was good. But now they are telling me it is their way or no way. I am not able to contact the headquarters. They said email, snail mail or fax... no phone calls will be accepted.
I sent them a certified letter and they have yet to respond. I have special needs children and no clean clothes. I cannot afford to take clothes to a laundromat... I don't have the money or the time. If I did, I guess I wouldn't have bought a washer and dryer. I only want what I paid for to be working. They have been rude and they keep saying "I know how you feel." They have no idea. I plan to get this thing fixed and buy a Whirlpool... never a lick of problem with my last one. I had it for 12 years and not one time did I have to call a service man.

My wife and I had a Maytag washing machine that had repairs needed that were too expensive to fix, according to our GE service contract. We were told to pick out a replacement washer, BUT IT HAD TO BE A GE WASHER. They would not replace it with another Maytag (even though our Maytag was only 3 years old). So ok, we thought no problem. We picked it out, had it delivered on January 22, have had a major balance problem with it, and no one seems to know how to fix it. GE's service SUCKS. Their people lie to you and their supervisors have ZERO PEOPLE SKILLS when it comes to SATISFACTION.
The problem with the machine we picked out is that the top loading is so bad that we are afraid that it’s going to either tip over or put holes in our walls. When this ** washer goes into spin, the drum bangs around so fast and loud that it sounds like a bomb is exploding, sending everyone in the house to run to it and unplug it before something really bad happens. The knuckleheads at their service department tell me that’s just what it does, and that you have to lift the lid, reset the clothes and redo the spin cycle. These people are nuts. I have been doing wash for 30 years and have never seen anything like this.
GE sends out their repairman, and he finds nothing wrong with it, so I showed him with a load of clothes. When the spin mode kicked in, the repair guy shot out of the chair he was sitting in and couldn’t get to the plug fast enough to stop it from spinning and banging. GE says he needs to replace the balance ring; I say ok go for it. The next day, after the repair, the SAME THING HAPPENED WITH AN EVEN LIGHTER LOAD THIS TIME. Now, he has to come back AGAIN (4th time) and this time, talk to their engineers. You know the idiots that designed this piece of ** to begin with to see if it’s REPAIRABLE. Meanwhile, the service department is useless and won’t help. I was very surprised by all the customer complaints I have read about this CRAPPY COMPANY, but now I can see why. They are horrible to deal with, and THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CONSUMER AT ALL!!!
I actually called their corporate office and got no help from them either (supposedly, it was corporate. I still think the woman was lying to me). I WILL NEVER EVER, EVER, EVER, EVER AGAIN BUY GE. I WILL MAKE IT MY MISSION IN LIFE TO MAKE SURE ANYONE ELSE I KNOW WILL NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS EITHER. Our repairman has been servicing our other GE products over the years, and so he tells that you also shouldn’t lift up the lid on the washer when it’s going because the transmission will burn out. The instructions tell you NOTHING about this either. So anyway, he will be back to work on it again on February 17, and we will see what happens next.
My calls to their customer relations department started with Mary. I got nowhere with her so then I spoke with her supervisor, **. Then I spoke with her supervisor, **, who then said to call her directly if, after the repair we just had done did not help, I should call her back at the Headquarters Department of Consumer Relations. I try to reach her and nobody seems to know who she is, and they can’t connect me to that department without an extension number. However, Pat told me she has no extension number and that I can reach her through their Customer Relations Department. Well, nobody can connect me without an extension, they tell me. WHO THE HECK IS LYING TO ME? I was very nice and calm with these women while they were losing their patience with me and this situation, and became testy after a while. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE SERVICE, BUT THEY DONT GIVE A DAMN!!!

I purchased a washer from Home Depot in 2007. Under the manufacturer warranty which was 1 year, this washer has had 2 washer tubs, a motor and other parts. I purchased the extended warranty. The washer broke down again in December; another tub and motor was installed again on the washer. After installing the tub and motor, the tech realized that more parts were needed. The parts were installed in January 2009. I went to wash a load of clothes the same day it was repaired and I had to recall for services. The water would not stop running from the machine. A tech came out 4 days later to correct the problem. Before the tech came out, I spoke with someone in the Replacement Department to ask them to replace this machine.
It was ridiculous for me to have a brand new machine that required so much work. The machine isn't even 2 years old. She informed me that only if the tech said that the washer was unrepairable, then and only then could I get a new washer. I called on February 9, 2009 because the washer again has stopped working. The tech came out today to replace the motor again.
I have a sick mother at home that requires clean linen. I have spent too much money and time at a Laundromat. All I am asking for is a brand new washer. I paid for a brand new washer but instead got a lemon.

My husband and I purchased a brand new GE Profile Front Load Washer and Dryer around April of 2006. We bought them after taking a long time to investigate the different brands and speaking to sales reps at Lowe's, Menard's, and Home Depot. After using the machine for only about 6 months, I noticed a tear in the rubber gasket/rubber seal around the opening of the washer door. This tear became worse, but my washer still worked fine, so I disregarded it. I then began to notice a mildew building up on the rubber seal after about 8 months of using the washer. I tried to remedy it by using bleach and a toothbrush - this only worked for a short period of time. I continued to try the bleach, but the mildew was winning.
It was then that I called the company - GE - directly. As I recall, they kept apologizing, had me list my washer serial number and explain the issue(s) I was having. One of the options that they quickly offered was to have a service tech come out to my house (for a fee) to see the issue and offer suggestions. I didn't think I should have to pay for this (and certainly didn't want to), but they were not willing to do this at no charge to me. They told me to go to Lowe's and buy these pellets to clean the washer. I have now done this twice - BUT THE MILDEW REMAINS. Keep in mind also, I have used the appropriate detergent that the manual suggests, AND we have city water (not well water, which sometimes can cause issues with rust).
I am extremely frustrated with the mildew - if I don't remove my clothes immediately after the wash cycle, they stink! I have also been leaving the door to my washer open to try to remedy this problem, which in my opinion is unsafe because I have two young children and heaven forbid they climb inside and something happens! Therefore, I called again today (2/10/09) to see if - after quite some time has elapsed - they are going to do something about this problem. I also wanted to ask if other customers have issued the same complaint(s) and/or if a recall has been made.
In speaking to the service department, I received several apologies again and the offer of sending out a technician. Then, I was told there is no certified technician in my area, so I'd have to look in the yellow pages and find one to look at my machine. I don't need some person to walk into my home, look at my machine and say, "Yep, you have MILDEW and NEED A NEW SEAL." I NEED GE to back their product, plan a recall, and make the hundreds of consumers dealing with this issue happy. I mean, at least send me a free rubber seal so I can try to install it!
It is so frustrating to keep running in this hamster wheel. When I asked about how many other complaints they've had regarding this, the lady (service supervisor) said she hasn't had many at all. What a crock! I find that hard to believe. All I had to do was a quick Google search and I've found plenty. PLEASE post this and see if something can be done. I'm seriously frustrated.
And, in regard to the drain behind the front panel, I have had to dismember this 3 times because of clogging and water on my floor. Each time, I've found pieces of clothes that have penetrated through the seal and gone into the pipes. I suppose I can cope with this, but again, it's very frustrating.

Regarding a GE front load model WBVH6240FWW - I bought this as a floor model from Lowe's. I used it for a year and a half with no problems just for myself. Cycles seemed a bit slow. Had some grandkids move in and the problems began. I discovered that there was a drain not mentioned in the manual behind the front panel. After the first problems with the washing machine not draining, we seemed to have regular problems. Whole pieces of clothing sometimes reached the filter. If you have this machine, the first thing to check should be this filter. Why is it behind a panel without a user serviceable feature? Seems downright consumer hostile to me.
Sometimes the cycle would freeze and require an indefinite length of time to clear. There would be no blockage in the drain filter. Finally it quit altogether. Nothing would light up or respond. I concluded that it was probably the control module. I could order it for $189-$300+ if I have serviceman do it, but I can't completely rule out the motor inverter. I also had problems with the door interlock. These seemed almost too minor to report, but still an occasional hassle. I see many reported problems with these machines, so am not inclined to fix it. 2 years' use out of a machine that cost over $700 as a floor model. I have not had the mold problems many report. The door gasket drains well and doesn't collect mold. Was it redesigned at some point?

We purchased a new large capacity GE washer and dryer set in Sept. ‘07. In July ‘08, both units failed. We had to wait a week to get a service man out to repair them. He had to replace the circuit board on the dryer and the transmission on the washer - fairly major repairs on units less than a year old. Within the next two months, the dryer's circuit board was replaced two more times along with one other part we were told was causing the circuit board failures. Why did it take three blown circuit boards before they pinpointed the cause? The washing machine was inspected during one of those visits also because it was squeaking like it had done before the transmission went out the first time. We were told that it was fine.
Now, Feb '09, the washer’s transmission is out again and needs to be replaced. Our warranty is expired and GE tells us that even though the part is less than a year old, we must pay for the repairs. After much arguing, GE will do us a favor and waive the parts cost, but we must pay the labor costs. The serviceman admitted that they are seeing this failure often and have found that a defective motor causes the transmission to fail. So, why wasn't the motor replaced the first time while under warranty?
GE customer service is like talking to a brick wall and they can't seem to get the point that we don't think we should have to pay any costs, labor or parts, since they didn't fix the root cause the first time out. How many more service calls are they going to cost me? The washer is model # WLRR5000G0WW and the dryer model # DRSR495EG1WW. Do not buy either one; they are junk and will cost you double their purchase price within 3 years, if my calculations are correct. At this point, I think it is going to be more cost effective for us to eat the purchase price and buy new units (different brand of course) rather than dump money into appliances that have proven themselves prone to failure.

GE front loading washer streamed water out of detergent tray onto the floor. It streamed down around the door and almost appeared as if the door is leaking but it is not. The problem turned out to be caked up powder detergent in the detergent tray area. Remove the detergent tray by pushing down on the tab at the rear of the tray and it will come out easily. This will expose the caked up powder detergent. This can be easily broken up and removed with a long screwdriver or stick or whatever. If possible, spray some hot water into that area so that all the residue is washed away. My beef is that although this information is on many websites, GE service was not forthcoming with this very common problem and solution. Instead, they direct me to service. Helping consumers instead of bilking them will result in more sales and profit. GE, don't be weasels! The real moral of the story is, don't use powder detergent in the liquid detergent tray. It will mess up your machine and eventually it will leak!

I purchased a GE Quiet Washing Machine on November 3, 2007 from Famous Tate Appliance Store in Tampa, Florida brand new. On January 28, 2009, the machine stopped washing. The agitator wasn't working. The machine would fill with water, then drain. It wouldn't spin or anything. On January 29, 2009 I called the store (Famous Tate) and obtained the extended warranty information that I purchased when I bought the washing machine. On January 30, 2009, the repairman informed me that the motor shorted out. But instead of recommending a replacement washing machine, instead he said that he would order another motor. I don't know much about these matters, but I do know replacing the motor would be continued problems. I called GE but was passed on from one department to another getting nowhere. The machine just recently broke down again and when I called for repairs, I was informed that I do not have the appropriate contract since it is in a commercial building and I only have a residential contract(?). I was informed that my contract was null and void, despite my explanation that the machine was used for residential purposes, and that the contract that I signed never stated not for commercial use or housed commercially nor that this contract is exclusively for residential use. No one ever informed me or sent me a letter stating that my contract was not valid for this commercial use. I had talked to over 8 people at the 800-437-3783 number including: Gloria, Erica, Jennifer (a manager) and Shaquiqua(?), as well as speaking to Melanie and others at 800-626-2224. Despite the extremely rude treatment, esp. by Jennifer, the manager, being placed on hold (for up to an hour and a half - before I hung up) and the basic runaround, my problem has still not been resolved.
I originally purchased this machine and was later sent a letter by a company, GE Comp Service Protection Plus, providing me with a service contract for this washer at the stated address of **. The contract never stated for residential use only or not for commercial use. This company did take my money, $311.58 via credit card and to my surprise, according to the GE Consumer Relations dept., I have no coverage and that this was my problem. They informed me that I purchased a residential contract (my signed contract doesn't state this) and I signed a contract and their company/service provider is obligated to provide coverage based on this agreement. Gloria later informed me that they sent me a follow-up service contract with terms stating that this product is not covered for commercial use. I explained that the machine isn't used for commercial use; it is only in a commercial building.
I have never been treated so poorly and so humiliated by a Consumer Relations department in my life. Jennifer has the most condescending attitude and put me on hold for over an hour and a half. Shaquiqua yelled at me saying that I had talked to the other representatives and that no one was going to help me out. I was just trying to get an answer as to why I don't have the coverage that I paid for, why I was sold a contract that should not have been sold to me or should have stated certain restrictions, and lastly, how could I transfer this residential contract to a commercial one. Erica informed me that if I contact 1-800-626-7224, I could get the information I needed and transfer the contract. This number isn't even part of GE's company. Later, lovely Jennifer gave me the same number and I explained to her that this was not a valid number and she insisted it was the commercial number. I requested to her to put me on hold and try the number at first she refused and then she said, "Just wait," putting me on hold for over an hour. The residential number is 800-626-2224.
After talking on the phone to over eight consumer relations personnel for over 3 hours of phone time, I am still without a commercial contract, $311.58 in the hole and I do not have a service contract or coverage for my machine that loves to break down.
I rarely write letters like this, but I have never been treated in such a humiliating manner as with this episode, treating my situation, my money and myself in such a demeaning manner. This individual, Jennifer, should be terminated and in no way have a management position.
I had to call in a repair person at this time, at my expense to fix my machine. I have no problem converting this residential contract to a commercial one if that is what needs to be done and how it can be done. GE should also evaluate its Consumer Relations dept. and its treatment of their customers. Doesn't the customer come first?
In addition to my frustration, the GE representative purposely put me on hold multiple times for extended periods of time (over 90 minutes) just to frustrate the consumer - I was feeling hopeless and did not want to call back. Multiple GE employees did the same thing and would not put a supervisor on the phone with me or repetitively put me on hold.

We bought the new GE front loading washer and dryer from Lowe's because of the company name. But since buying them, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone and if I could afford it, I would get rid of them and buy another brand. The washer consistently overflows, plus does not always spin the clothes properly. So I have to set the cycle to spin and drain and then dry them for extra time because they are still so wet. I am disgusted by this more than I can say. I'm sure the policy is too bad. You bought them, you're stuck. They were over $1,000 and we had saved up for them.

I purchased this washer and the complementing dryer in 2006. Luckily for me, I purchased it from Army and Air Force Exchange Services (being military) and also got the extended warranty and service contract. I have had to have both the washer and dryer "band-aided" about 3 times each. In addition to the lint trap issues and drum problems, as of right now, I am trying to get the warranty company to buy me out and simply give me my money so I may purchase a new unit. Currently, the rubber gasket is ripped and using the washer floods my laundry room, living room and kitchen. I have been trying to get this resolved since October and today, the service contractor through the warranty company berated me on the phone and said I needed to figure out what to do to get bought out because it was too expensive for him to fix. He basically told me that he would "figure it out" so I could get a new one, because fixing this was not worth his time - If only he had told me this when I made the original claim in October after it took him 3 weeks to come look at it. This machine is a piece of crap and I am really disappointed in GE. I expect more for my dollar. I don't expect perfection, but I don't think I should waste my money on a product that fails so regularly.

A GE repairman came out to the house and quoted me $120 to fix my washer (1 year and 3 months old). The $120 is a labor charge, as the part was covered under warranty. We scheduled an appointment for Saturday morning. The repairman showed up on Friday when my wife was home. He fixed it and charged her $168. She didn't know what he had originally quoted and paid him. I called GE to complain, and their records showed that he charged us $160.99. It is bizarre that GE doesn't realize that the repairman was also stealing from them. They, of course, did nothing, putting me out $48.

I purchased a GE top loader washer in July 2008. My first service call was because the machine did not dispense hot water. The technician said that due to the energy saving devices installed on it, it was not designed to dispense hot water.
The next service call was due to the violent shaking during the spin cycle. The technician told me that it was off-balance, and needed a new drum and balancing ring. He came out again the following week to install those parts, but it did not fix the problem. He then ordered a clutch, water valve (for hot water) and some other parts, and returned the following week. After installing these parts, the technician indicated that the machine cannot be fixed. I was told to contact GE Consumer Relations to find out what my options were.
I called GE Consumer Relations the following week and was told that, according to the engineers, the machine is operating as designed. I was also told that the technicians will no longer come out to service this machine, even for the new problem that appeared since the last visit. Even though there are 6 months remaining on the original manufacturer's warranty, they refuse to honor it. I was told to call a 3rd party to repair it and pay for it out of our own pocket.
I refuse to fix this piece of junk. All my appliances are GE, and they will be replaced with those from another manufacturer as they break. I have had it with GE products and service. Isn't there a law that they must honor their own warranty?

I have called GE at least a thousand times and they still won't make the guy to come out and fix my machine. We have tried to be understanding but almost three months later and close to $600 spent at the laundromat, I cannot get GE to do the right thing or the appliance center that is responsible for the work. I took off work and have been home three different times in the last two weeks for him to be a no show and GE still won't do anything about it.

My GE washing machine (new in 2006) flooded two rooms on Sunday. After reading the most recent post in this thread, I checked the hose that triggers the switch to stop the incoming water supply, and, sure enough, a small amount of lint had disabled the mechanism completely. Lennar used all GE when building this house, including the worst dishwasher that I have ever owned - very slow, cleans dishes only when loaded to half-capacity; a GE dryer with an alarm buzzer that can't be turned off; a GE refrigerator that has had a number of service calls, most recently for the mechanism that closes the flap after dispensing ice. When the tech showed me the part, it was rusty and lousy as though it came from an old junkyard appliance, not a two year old unit in a climate-controlled house. He was amazed and embarrassed at the poor quality of both the part coming out and the part replacing it. My GE oven takes twice as long to pre-heat as did my 25 year old GM/Frigidaire, and one of the hot spots on the cook top can't be trusted to heat at the lowest setting. My entire family and circle of friends are well aware of the declining quality and reliability of GE appliances.
I am very lucky in this regard. I was home to pre-empt water damage. I'm very glad to just mop up when I know it would have been so much worse had I started the wash on my way out the door to the office. Also, I don't race to call for repair service until I am certain I can't resolve the problem myself. I will not buy nor recommend GE products ever again.

I will never buy another GE appliance again. Wish I could afford a new brand. I would go to another brand.

I purchased a new GE washer in 2006 for my new home. The washer malfunctioned Dec. 28, 2008 and flooded my entire carpeting in every room. The poor design of the washer caused a piece of lint to stop the water control sensor, therefore, water continued to pour out of machine damaging my new home. After contacting the Water Damage Restoration Co. and my insurance company, etc. to take care of this mess, I contacted GE to let them be aware of this GE washer malfunction. They said they can send a service tech repairman to look at the washer but no help beyond that. I do not want the GE Washer. I will never purchase a GE product again.

Our 2-week-old washing machine, GE model WWSE524062WW, quit spinning. We called for repair and upon inspection, the tech informed me the motor and fuse are dead. This is not a surprise. They know there is a problem with this motor and they now have a different motor for replacement in this model. He wasn't sure he had one in the truck because they've been using a lot of them. Sure enough, he had to order the part. I was told it couldn't be sent for two days and therefore the service was rescheduled for 2 days out, which unfortunately conflicts with our schedule so we'd get bumped to the following week (another weekend without laundry on a brand new $500+ machine).
So I called the 1-800 line, talked to three different people at the main line and finally the third one had the authority to actually order parts and communicate directly with dispatch. She was able to expedite the part at their cost (she originally wanted me to pay for the expedited shipping, which is absurd because they shipped me a defective unit that died within 2 weeks of use!). I've not run into a company with as isolated of service departments with CS reps that have so little authority in a very long time. It's also sketchy to me that GE is knowingly sending out washing machines with a defective motor, hoping that only some break and have to be repaired. That is questionable practice in my eyes. It only takes a moment to lose a customer for life. GE has lost me.

I purchased my GE Washer and Dryer in 6/07. The washer was always loud and shook but I thought it was just a front loader and would do that. Now a year and a half later, the seal around the front ripped and water got everywhere. I paid $300.00 for a service guy from American to come fix it. He said the drum was bent and was probably like that when I bought it, and I should call GE for some help because the problem still wasn't fixed. I called GE and they said they would give me the parts for free but their service guy would have to fix it.
Well, he called 2 days later, very rude, that he had to drive so far to get to me and if the drum is bent, it would cost me $80 for him just to come look and tell me again the drum is bent and then another $400 to install it. So even though I can get if for free, they will charge me that much even though the repair guy from American can install it for $40; yes, $360 cheaper for the same work. So, I called GE again and told the lady this. She said to get the part numbers I need and they will overnight them to me and the repair guy from American can fix it.
So, I finally get the part numbers and call GE again today. I get a case manager named Jackeyln that was so rude; she should not be working with the public! She basically called me a liar, that no one had told me they would help me. But the nice person she was (not) told me they could send them at a discount. So, she being so helpful looked up the discounted price for me and the total came to over $1,000 for the parts. And don’t forget the $400 for their guy to install it even though American can get the parts for the same price (not a discount!).
I asked Jackelyn if there was someone else I could please talk to and she said no, she was the only one. I then asked if I could please talk to the girl I talked to before, and once again she said no. She can’t transfer calls, but I could write a letter. The other two people I talked to was going to help me, but this very rude person just wouldn't help at all. But she did say she could give me a discount on a new GE washer… ha ha! So now out $300, they want me to buy another GE. I just want the parts they told me they would send to me. I will pay for the American service guy to help.

Then it broke again, so we bought a secondhand one for $80 and it worked better than your crap. I still owe a lot of money on these appliances that I will pay but I or anybody I can tell will ever buy your stuff again. And the sad part is in these hard economic times, you people don't even care about dissatisfied customers.

The plumber had a tech out before we moved in because not all of the packaging was removed and it was making noises. Then I call a GE for a tech back in April 08, due to noise. Then again September 08 for same noise and leaking. The tech now told me the machine's motor was faulty because it was not agitating. It was just balance. I said great because that was the motion the machine always made, it never did any other motion during the cleaning cycle. I thought it was cleaning, and all this time it hasn't for an entire year I owned it. Well, they said they would pay parts only. In the meantime, I have spent double electricity, double in laundry soap and lost clothes because they just looked dingy. I asked the repairman if I should continue to use it. He said only if you want to wear unclean clothes. It is ridiculous, after having three people out to set it up, repair from packaging, and then again because of same noise....no one tech noticed the machine wasn't working correctly since the day I received it.

I traced the drain hose to the front of the machine where I found a screw off filter behind a screwed on panel. I figured out how to clean my filter and reassemble the washer but the clothes still get so wet the washer gets out of balance and won't spin on high speed (it gets out of balance and shuts down). The clothes remain soaked. I don't overload the washer, nor do I do anything out of the ordinary. This shouldn't be happening. When we moved into our new house in April of 2006, we bought a new GE washer and dryer from Lowes. After several months, the washer started leaking from behind. I didn't notice until our hardwood floors outside our laundry room started buckling. I then called the GE repair company and asked them to come out for service. The GE service tech told me that I was using too much soap and washing too many clothes at one time. I paid the service fee then cut down on my soap and amount of clothes per wash.
This first visit was within the 1 year warranty. After about a month, maybe less, my washer started leaking again. I had another company come out and look at my washer. The repairman told me that we needed a new tub seal and a bearing, which would cost approximately $600 for parts and labor. I then called GE again and was immediately told that GE would pay for the parts if I would pay for the labor. Realizing that my 1 year warranty had passed, I agreed. I was also told by GE that the company that I used to service my washer the second time was an authorized dealer of GE parts and that they could fix the machine. So I called the other company and tried to proceed with having my washer repaired.
They let me know that they haven't recieved any authorization for my case and that I would need to call GE again and try to get them to fax the authorization to them. When I talked to GE again, I was told that the fax would be sent immediately. The other company called me again and told me that the fax that was sent to them did not mention that the parts were being paid for and that I needed to call GE again and clear this up. So, I called GE again and I was told that the other company was Screwing Up and that the information that was sent was correct. I was given a number to give to the other company that was supposed to clear everything up and guide them through the warranty issues. I was also told by GE during this call that this washer, was under a 10 year warranty and that I shouldn't have to pay for labor or parts.
I was then forwarded to the consumer relations department to try to understand this new information. The consumer relations person said that certain parts only were under warranty and that the other company would have to call and confirm what parts were needed and if those parts were under warranty. After almost an hour on the phone, I was left with having to call the other company and the parts I needed were probably not going to be covered under the 10 year warranty.
THe last call I have recieved was from the other company stating that they called the GE 800 number and that they were told the parts I needed were not covered under the 10 year warranty and that I would have to pay for the parts and labor, totalling almost $600.

My Husband and I built a brand new home in fall of 2007. We purchased a GE profile top load washer and dryer model number WPGT9360E0PL. We have 3 boys who all play sports and we run a farm in our spare time so we bought a good set to take care of all of our laundry. It was installed in August and in October the morning of our Housewarming party the problems began. My sister stepped out on our back porch and noticed water coming out of the walls. The laundry room was flooded so bad it was spilling out of the outside walls.
I called Home Depot where I purchased the product they told me not thier problem under GE warrenty call them. The man I got ahold of was extremely rude said I had put too much soap in. I was using HE soap and the instructed amount but he refused to listen. I tried telling him that my husband was a plumber and he said there was a leak in the hose. Still refused to schedule service until I tried running the machine with no soap in it so I did. Leaked all over floor so he agreed to schedule appt.
Repair man came out week later between 2-5p.m. was not familar with my machine but it was the pump hose. Called back it would take month to get part it was on back order. I called GE and complained they agreed to finally rush the part. Was without machine for almost 3 weeks. Then fun started again in March same hose had hole and flooded laundry room again. Took week to get service tech out to tell me yep its the hose well get it ordered. I called GE and after throwing several fits got the part overnighted and put on only 2 weeks without washer this time.
In May the drain hose from washer to wall developed a leak, when the tech came out I had the part because GE had sent me one on accident instead of pump hose so I had washer fixed in little over week. This lasted until June when it leaked again. I called had service sheduled and the part overnighted. Never recieved part called them, after 2 more days they promised to send it overnight again it would be there by 10 a.m. in time to be installed. I called at 4p.m. the next day which was a Thursday no they were sending it regular mail and there was no way to get it there in time for service.
I was trying to get ready to go on out family's dream vacation to Alaska for 16 days. So had to reschedule service for after return. Washer was fixed on July 22. I finally had enough and called GE telling them I wanted all repair records and my file info faxed or mailed to me so I could turn them over to the Oklahoma Lemon Law. A woman named Marketa refused, said she couldn't give me any info. I told her I knew she was lying so transfer me to her supervisor. I was put on hold and Nola got on the line she gave me info over the phone and told me they could replace the washer if proved to be unfixable.
Service tech now thinks washer missing a part and has ordered part to fix it. Its now August 18th the hose is leaking again since Aug 4th they overnighted me the wrong part and I've had to reschedule the service calls 3 times in the last week. For repairs not covered by the manufacturer's warranty or an active GE service contract: (1) should you choose to have the repair performed, our charges will include cost of labor and parts, however, the home call charge will be waived; or (2) should you choose not to have the repair performed, there will be a home call charge of $99.95
I never chose to have my appliance repair but got charge full price anyway. I live on a very tight budget, single working mother of two and it makes me so upset that I have to make so many sacrifies to pay for this so call service by GE. To make matters worse technician left water discharge hose on the floor and my laundry room and the room next to it got flooded. I purchased a GE washing machine from the Home Depot in Lisbon, CT on January 19, 2008. This machine was delivered to me on January 26, 2008. This washer was on sale so it cost me only $341.10 before taxes. At the beginning of June 2008, the washer wasn't spinning out, so I called GE and set up a service call. A technician came out on June 19th and tightened the Hub Nut and reset the board. It worked for 1 load. I called the technician directly and they came out again on June 24th. This time the technician replaced the split ring, flut washer and hub nut. This time the machine worked for about 2 weeks.
I called GE again for service but since I was in their system for service already, i had to play the game of hitting every button in their automated system until I got a real person. I explained the issue of them coming out previously and explained that not only is the washer not spinning out this time, it also wasn't draining the water. I also complained about the amount of money it was costing me to go to the laundrymat. They told me that when the machine was fixed to call back GE customer relations and they would reimburse me the amount of money I was out for the laundrymat. They sent a technician out on July 11th and he replaced the water pump. The technician also recommended that I speak with Home Depot about the issue and see if they had any other avenues for me to follow.
The machine stopped spinning out once again. So I called GE again and they set up an appointment with a Technician for August 11th. In the meantime, I took the opportunity to go to Home Depot and speak with the associate there. I was informed that this particular model of GE's was stopped in production for all the problems they were having with it. He also told me about Connecticut's Law that simply states that if they come out 3 times on the same issue, the machine has to be replaced. In addition he gave me GE's Customer Relations phone number (which I had) and the Home Depot's Customer Care phone number.
So, the technician came out and wouldn't you know, all the parts that were replaced less than 2 months ago, have to be replaced AGAIN (the split ring, flut washer, and hub nut)! Unfortunately, he has to order them so I am still out a washer at the moment. I called GE again and explained the issue to them. Told them I was aware that this washer was stopped in production, told them which parts were ordered, what home depot told me about the law, etc. I also requested that they replace the washer and reimburse me for my laundrymat fees. No such luck. They told me that my warranty only covers parts and labor for repair ONLY. They would not replace my washer at all. They also told me they would not reimburse me my costs and that they don't know who told me this, since this is something they don't do.
I asked what happens when my warranty is up and the machine breaks again? Would I be left with a machine that still is broken and not replaced? The person told me the best she could do was extend my warranty by 6 months. I then asked to speak to a supervisor and was told the same thing, except the supervisor offered to extend my warranty by 1 year. I am livid! Basically they're telling me too bad. For what my cost was on the washer and what they have paid out to the technicians to repair it, they have spent more than the washer itself. I don't understand why they can't just replace it?
So, I called Home Depot's customer care line and was told they can't do anything about it. GE's contract with them doesn't allow them to return appliances therefore they can't replace it and return it on my behalf. They did forward my information to their follow-up team and I will receive a call back, however, he doubted anything could be done on their end. Where does this leave me? I have 9 people living in my home and am in need of a working washer. My laundrymat fees are over $120 for the last two months and more to come since it'll take at least a week for the parts to come in and the technician to get back out here.
I don't even know what my next course of action could be? I guess I'll go to my Home Depot store again and see if they have any more information they can give me, or any phone numbers I can call. I DO NOT recommend anyone purchasing a GE product if this is how they treat you. Their service is the worst (no reflection on the independent technicians, they have been nice and have done everything in their power that they can). To get to the laundrymat around my schedule and to truck my kids there is a project in itself. Nevermind the cost of the laundrymat so far with more to come. I am at my wits end.

The next repair was on the rubber boot just inside in the door being ripped. The service person whom I have to say is not the friendly person told us that we need to make sure we check the pockets of our three kids cloths since any little item can rip the grey rubber boot. The part was ordered and GE paid for a new install of the boot.
90 days later same rude serviceman out for service for the clothes being to wet and water all over the floor. Service mans solution... to take of bottom service panel and unscrew white drain and empty out the trap once again telling me to make sure to empty out kids pockets.who only come to our post twice a week needed to use one of my baking pans to drain the nasty smelly water into! What a joke!
To top the whole thing off the service tech I had to tell him that lint and stuff comes from clothes if they weren't dirty you wouldn't have to wash them. 30 days later same rude service guy out to replace grey rubber boot yet again for the third time. This is certainly a LEMON!!! That service call was in July of 2007. Since then my warranty is gone and the machine to date still has the problems. It has eaten more clothes then I can count.
We live in Georgia and we already have problem with mold so this machine is not helping the smell in the house! Think not twice before investing in these products. We were looking for something that would last for a long stretch. But it looks as if once again the consumer was taken!! A recall on the product would be nice!! Since now we are looking up for the 4 time the boot is going to be replaced.
The loss of clothes and time to drive to the laundry mat, pay for the washing of the clothes and now we have to pay out of pocket for any repair that have been serviced before! These repair have happened over and over again. The machine is a LEMON.

Then it would drain the water then cut off. I purchased a mid priced washer but I actually thought it would be a good one. The GE repairman replaced the motor. Interestingly, I purchased a GE dryer at the same time as this washer and the timer went out on the dryer at about the same time as the transmission did on the washer.
I called GE about the transmission since it was under warranty and at first was told I had to pay to have it installed that they would not send it to me for self installation. I complained on their website and their consumer affairs department called me and they did end up sending me the transmission free of charge. No sign of mice droppings in the clothes and the clothes are destroyed all year not just the colder months.
Also the dryer takes over 2 hours to dry a load of clothes. Not sure how much energy we are saving.
I am going to write a letter and wait to see what happens. I was told by the service rep (who has been to my house several times) that the front loader dryer is bigger but the motor is the same as the smaller model so that is why it takes so long to dry the clothes. I am literally in tears of frustration right now with my GE Adora washer (two years old). I am so disappointed with the continual problems this washer has given me. As a single teacher, I cannot afford to keep having a technician come to my house, especially for such a new appliance that is breaking through no fault of my own. f I've been having problems with my GE Adora since just a few months after I bought it. Several items of clothing have been destroyed. Also, I am a one-person household, and I maybe use the machine twice a week.
I have had tech support at my house four times: The first time was before the warranty expired. The technician told me about needing to clean the lint trap often. This is not listed anywhere in the instructions for the consumer. Plus, the way that the lint trap is behind a screwed in panel makes it near impossible to do this with just two hands (it's poorly aligned and is so difficult to take off and put back on). Really, regular maintenance of a household appliance should not require a power tool. He also told me to only use HE detergent, which I already was using. On this visit, my gasket was broken. The technician made me feel like it was my fault, as though I was putting items in the machine other than clothes.
The second time the rep came was to actually replace the gasket, since it had to be ordered. Somehow he didn't re-connect a hose, and when I went to do a load, water flooded out of the machine all over my kitchen floor. So, he came back a third time. Sorry, he said. He explained that he forgot to connect a hose. Really. The fourth time occurred when my washer was leaking. When he cleaned out the lint trap, there was a pair of underwear stuck in there. Really - should a pair of underwear be able to get past the barrel and into the lint trap? More evidence of a design flaw. The technician told me that I was supposed to put all of my underwear in a mesh bag. Again, he is blaming me for a faulty design; nowhere in the manual does it say that underwear cannot be washed with regular clothing.
Now, yet again, just a year after the last gasket was replaced, the gasket is torn. Plus, the entire washer smells like mold, and I am concerned for my health. From what I've seen online, there are hundreds of similar complaints regarding the GE Adora. I would love to see a recall, or a class action suit.
Every time a technician has to come to my house there is a fee just for a visit. I believe a new gasket (part alone) is close to $150. Not to mention the cost of all the articles of clothing that have been ruined. (Comes out with holes, zippers ripped off, etc.)

We bought a GE Profile washer in 2/08. It was sold as a scratch & Dent but had never been previously sold and we were told that is was mechanically new-just cosmetic damage. After having this washer just 2 weeks, we had to call a technician out because the washer was not balancing in the spin cycle. The tech came out and adjusted something and we got a whole additional 2 months or so out of it. Then it began again...only much worse. Shredded chunks of plastic appeared in the wash (from the top of the gasket on the tub)the washer quit spinning altogether after almost walking through a wall. A tech came out and assured us that the shredded plastic was nothing to worry about and tightened some bolt and left.
Now it's two months later and we are with out our washer AGAIN. This time, no shredded plastic, but we are lucky our washroom wall still stands. We have been waiting a week to get this repaired again. (We paid over 800.00 for this piece of junk!) They were supposed to repair to last Tuesday, we rearranged out work schedules (again) to have someone here between 2-5pm and they never even called or showed up. My husband called them they said they had to order a part and would call to reschedule the service call (again). They also advised us it would be another WEEK before the part would be in! This is the THIRD service call on this supposedly new washer since last Feb. 2008.
We cannot be without a washer, as both our occupations generate a great deal of dirty laundry. This washer is obviously a lemon, and as I would like to have a new washer delivered to me and would be willing to go with another brand with a prorate of the existing one, but as I understand this, is not possible because it was sold as a scratch & dent. This makes no sense to me, as the ONLY reason we bought this washer in the first place is because it was to have carried a new appliance warranty, which certainly should've carried a replacement clause due to defect, as this obviously is. By the way, this washer replaced a USED washer that I bought about 20 years ago from a rental company. It was only serviced TWICE in the entire time I owned it (and that was within the last year of owning it). I wish I still had it.

Had a GE front load washer M# WCSR2090D5WW come with my new home purchase around 1/2006. Over the last few months loads have needed 1-3 extra spin cycles to get all water out of clothes. Multiple repair forums have highlighted the transmission problem, and from what I've read here, I am terrified. More than anything I hate going through the same hoop over and over again and that's what this sounds like. It might be the belt for me, though I'm getting more skeptical by the minute.
Apparently GE hasn't improved the quality of their washer transmission over the last 13 years, despite countless consumer complaints. From what I've read it's a simple matter of a better seal on the screw that holds the air bell in place. How much more money could that really cost them? I'm contemplating getting a new washer rather than fight this out over the next three years can anyone recommend a good, reliable brand? Oh, and beware of the appliances that come with the home as buying incentives - once bitten, twice shy.

Purchased a GE washer a Lowes. It was eventually delivered, we then went to use it and our clothes came out soaking wet and the fabric softner dispenser didn't work. We called up GE and and they sent us a new fabric dispenser and told us that it should work.
We installed the new fabric dispenser, used the washer, and the clothes still came out wet and fabric softner did not dispense. We called up GE again, they sent out a service man and he looked at it. He eventually concluded that the spin cycle motor did not work, and in his 15+ years at GE he had never seen that. GE then said that they were going to send us a new motor and have a repairman install it.
I then called up GE and requested a new washer because this one is basically a lemon. They told me that if I had called and scheduled a service within 7 days, then maybe they could do something. Even though I called and complained originally (and they sent the dispenser) that did not count as a service therefore they will only provide the repair under warranty
I now have a $550 washer that, in my opinion, is used/lemon. I've washed 1 load of laundry and already I'm going to have a MAJOR part replaced. What's going to happen in 2-3 years when this new motor goes? I'm going to have to replace the entire washer or pay out of pocket for another new motor.

Sears repair came to repair the washer and I started having the same problem again in late March early April. I was told that my warranty had expired and had to pay for the repair.
I contacted the store manager and express my outrage since it was still a new washer. The previous washer I purchased from Sears was a Kenmore and never had a problem for 12 years. All the Appliance Manager wanted to do was to sell me a service warranty and stated I should have purchased one when I bought the equipment and I was in the 1% of appliances that have problems. I explained to him that I expected to purchase a reliable washer which wouldn't give me so much problem especially with a new washer.
Each time I called the customer service center they offered to sell me a service agreement for 1/3/7 years starting at $179. Which is outrageous since I purchased the washer for $400. The repair man just left this afternoon 5/26/08 and informed me that I need a transmission which costs $497.00, which is outrageous since I paid $400 for the washer.
NEVER, EVER, buy GE. I heard on the news this week that they're getting out of the applicance business, I wonder why, their appliances are the worst piece of JUNK. I was overcharged for a service call of $153, now I have to go out a purchased another washer for at least $400 and I just purchased this washer 14 months ago and I still have the new stickers on it.

My husband and I purchased all GE appliances for our kitchen renovation in 2007 from the Home Depot with a service contract warranty at the Home Depot in Manahawkin, New Jersey back in 2007. October 5, 2007 a service call was arranged to our home to repair the GE washer. I could not understand why a brand new washer would vibrate, leak water all over the floor and make so much noise. The service man said it was the transmission and that all he could do was replace the part.
We waited a week for the part to come in and it was installed. I insisted that we should get a new washer. Why would a washer that we just purchased brake down?
Within 8 months the washer started acting the same way. Now the leak was worse. The service man came out on May 19, 2008 and said the transmission was broke and the tub had a crack. I was beside myself, the water on my new hard wood floor, the time off from work, having to bring my wash to the laundry mat. I spent over an hour waiting to get someone from customer relations to be told that my machine was now over a year old and they could not do anything and was hung up on. I need help, those of us who purchased GE products are getting ripped off, we need justice.
Time spent calling and waiting being hung up on. Time off from work waiting for the service man. Water leak all over the floor from washer. Cleaning up the mess from the water leak. Not able to wash clothing, etc. Had to bring everything to the laundry mat. Cost of gas is sky high. I should get a new washer, not a repeat part replacement each time it brakes down.

I called that number he gave me and a repair man came over. He said that shaking was normal and he didnt see a problem with it. (It feels like an earthquake in my house when its on spin cycle. The GE man said it shakes a little bit but i could reinforce your floor if i wanted. I saved up money to buy a frontload washer and dryer, i dont have the money to reinforce my floors because of a washer and dryer.

Now 3 months after i bought it, it is starting to squeak and my laundry room stinks. I have city water, I dont know if its the washer or my city water.

We purchased a GE Hotpoint washing machine on 3/31/08. First of all, we bought it from a local business and paid a little more than necessary thinking we could call this local business for service. The washer quit working on Sat. 5/3/08 - wouldn't agitate or spin. I called on Mon. requesting service. The business owner I bought from came out and looked at it but informed us he can't service warranties. The company has to send a serviceman from 40 miles away.
To make matters worse - he informed us the washer would need a new motor! This washer is a little over a month old and needs a new motor! I wish they'd either bring me a new one or come get it and give me my money back. I called everyone I could possibly get a number for and was told the same thing by all - we have a year's warranty so what's my gripe? The cost will be covered.
The serviceman is coming today (5/7) to replace the motor. I wish I'd never bought it, and will never, ever buy a Hotpoint or GE product again. The customer service at GE is terrible. No one seems to understand why I'd be upset about a brand new washer needing it's motor replaced when the cost is going to be covered by the warranty. I've learned a valuable lesson and hope this discourages someone else from making the same mistake I did. Thank you.
For one thing, I had to go to the laundromat and spend almost $20. The only damage is to my feelings for the stress this has caused.

I think I wrote to you between July and August last year 2007, to tell you of the GE washing machine I purchased on Jan 2, 2007. By July it was unusable. GE finally sent someone out and they replaced the transmission and inner and outer tubs. This was September.
December 14, 2007 It broke again. I did not not bother to try to get it repaired again. It was obviously a piece of junk and so I gave it to my son to make a robot out of and bought another brand not affiliated with GE in any way. I will never purchase a GE appliance again.
Loss was $500 for the original machine, which was usable for 9 months of the 11 months I owned it. Laundry costs and time spent at a laundry mat. And let me tell you that in this town, laundry mats are GROSS places to have touch anything.

Our high efficiency front load GE washer has shredded garments on 4 separate occasions. The damange has ranged from about a 1 inch section of clothing damanged, to nearly the entire garment (perhaps 12 inches). Model isa WBVH5100HWW. GE and their awful insurance company refuse to admit there is a problem, and have been a real pain to deal with. They claim because there isn't a defective part that there is nothing that can do. It is obvious to me this means it is a design flaw in the machine which would be trivial to prove in court. Don't buy GE!

The motor was replaced at 14 months. then 2 months later another motor was sent to my house from GE when I inquired why the support person said to keep it in case I need the motor replaced again. It does not drain or spin the clothes adequately. We were told to open our unit and drain the machine by hand every 2 weeks for any lint or extra water that does not drain out. This requires us to unscrew the bottom of the front of the unit and hold a 5 gallon bucket under it.
This was told to us the 2nd time the GE service repairman came out for water left in the washer drum. NOW we have a terrible MOLD smell coming from the back of the unit! We moved the unit out to the garage to dry out the smell still persists! GE told me today that this is common for all front loaders ,to develop a mold/mildew smell. I purchased a GE front-loading washer and drier just over a year ago. Currently the washer is holding a load of towels hostage. The spin cycle stopped working altogether, and the door will not unlock. Even after unplugging the foul machine, I cannot get the door open. The washer shreds clothes and leaves them wet and soapy. I dont know what the alternating spin directions or complex pattern of slow and fast spin speeds were suppose to accomplish, but the washer is not effective in removing water from the clothes. It is, however, very good at damaging straps and hooks, and twisted a long sleeve right off a pretty sturdy cotton shirt. I use the recommended amount of HE detergent and double rinse, then run through an extra spin cycle. Some much for being energy efficient.
The ridiculously flimsy washer gasket is pointlessly fluted and traps a half a cup of water. To prevent mold from developing, I have to thoroughly swab up the water and wipe the gasket out with dilute bleach every time I finish the laundry. There are bugs in the control software, which makes many of the cycle options unavailable. The dryer is a nightmare as well. After two cycles on high temperature setting, the clothes are still too damp to put away. The clean lint trap indicator is unrelated to the amount of lint in the trap. Usually the lamp does not come on, but I clean the trap after each load any way. When the light does come on, cleaning the trap is not enough. I have to reseat the lint trap repeatedly and slam the door before washer finally recognizes the trap is clean and will begin its ineffectual cycle. I purchase this pair from the Home Depot; their response to my complaints Its between you and GE.

We bought the new GE front loading washer and dryer from Lowe's because of the company name. But since buying them, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone and if I could afford it I would get rid of them and buy another brand. The washer consistently overflows, plus does not always spin the clothes properly. So I have to set the cycle to spin and drain and then dry them for extra time because they are still so wet. I am disgusted by this more than I can say. I'm sure the policy is too bad, you bought them, you're stuck. They were over $1,000.00 and we had saved up for them.
We have had a plumber out 3 times, which is more expense. New drain pipe put in (thought that was it) and then they tell us we have to buy a cover for the drain hose to keep the lint from plugging up the drain line. Most people have never heard of this for washers and I hadn't either till now. Even with the mesh sock to catch the lint it still will overflows. And the sock was not full. So who do I go to for reimbursment or damages when our new bathroom is finished and it overflows again which will go right into our bathroom? No one. Once again I will not recommend their products to anyone. I am very disappointed in this company as I had always thought of GE as one of the better companies for appliances etc.

In 06-07 we built a brand new home and had all new GE appliances installed. In May of 07 the washing machine was replaced. The lower unit was cracked and it was spilling water all over the floor. The company did not object at all. We upgraded with model #WCSR2090 thinking we were okay. Within a couple of months I would find just a trace of water on the floor. Called the repairman and he assured me that the unit was not cracked and it was just a trace of water.
Over that last few months there seems to be more that a trace but the repairman would say that it was nothing and that was just the way the GE washers were built. I really don't understand why there would be water when most of the time it would happen when it was a low setting. The last time the repairman came out he assured me that there was nothing wrong with the machine that it was just the way it was built and if I didn't like the water on the floor maybe I should buy a pan to put under the washer. Also, most of the time I have to spin my clothes twice to get the water out of them and even then it takes 1 1/2 to 2 hours to dry a load of clothes in my electric dryer. Is this normal? I don't understand why a manufacture would build a washing that would throw water out. Is this true or do we have another defective machine?
So far we have been able to keep the water cleaned up so that there is no damage to the floor. But this extra spinning and drying time has caused an increase in our electric bill.

Over the past 8 years we have completely remodeled our home. We purchased all new appliance from GE with the exception of the wall oven (GE did not make one that would fit our cabinet opening). The dryer required 2 repairs in the first 3 years and when it broke again we replaced it. The washer broke after 19 months and the repair cost was more than the cost of replacement. We purchased another washer. The dishwasher stopped working in a little over 3 years and after 3 service calls the repair company refunded our money. They said that they would not be able to fix it without completely replacing everything. We replaced the dishwasher. The over the counter microwave and exhaust fan combination has had 2 motor replacements in 4 years. The Profile refrigerator was just repaired at 5 and half years and still doesn't work. GE factory service is coming out again.
When I called GE factory service after the first repair did not fix the problem, I also informed them that the case on the refrigerator is so hot you cannot touch it . I ask if they could have a service person come back out the next day as I was concerned about a fire. They said the best they could do was 2 days. I asked if this could cause a fire and there answer was I hope not (the person I spoke to at GE was the scheduling supervisor). The range top had a significant defect in the finish and was replaced prior to installation. I ask one of the service tech's why I was having so many problems. He said that 3 years is the normal lifespan and recommended always paying for the extended 5 year warranty. Our prior dryer lasted 21 years before needing a repair, and the washer went 23 years before breaking. Our first refrigerator lasted 24 years and was still working perfectly when we gave it away. These were NOT GE products.
We have spend a significant amount of money, time and inconvenience on products that in my opinion, should last longer without repeated repairs.

The other service call reported the machine as being unbalanced, although the tech did not wait for me to load the clothes so he can witness the machine violently shaking. But what really sent me for a loop was the fact that I called the GE Corp office and was told regardless to how many time the machine was to be serviced, unless the engineer (who only walks the tech through the issue via telephone) feels it is necessary, only then will I be give a new machine.
When I asked GE customer service how could an engineer, who is not here on site with the machine, decide when to give me a new machine when this machine appears to be refurbished or a flat out lemon. Her response was that she could extend my warranty at no cost for an additional year. Now why would I want to extend a warranty for a product that isn't working properly?

We bought a GE front loader washing machine in January 2007. Almost immediately, the washer began to grow mold, and no amount of cleaning could get rid of it. I hated to call GE since the washer was still working. Then, in early fall, the washer started acting up doing things such as buzzing intermittently, clicking on and off. We signed up for the extended warranty because it was inevitable it was going to break down. In January 2008, before the washer was a year old, it stopped working all together. I called and set up a service appointment with GE. The repairman came and replaced the entire electronic panel and made the comment that the motor sounded funny but was still working. I was able to wash 2 loads of laundry, when the washer broke again. I again called for service, and the repairman diagnosed the problem as a broken lock mechanism and motor. He had to order the parts because they just don't carry parts around with them. He came out a third time to install the door lock mechanism and the motor. The washing machine lasted a little over a week and then broke again. It does not work at all now.
Throughout this whole month, I have spoken with GE about the washing machine and my dissatisfaction with the product and the service, only to be treated very rudely and told "that happens". When I called them again on February 7, 2008, to tell them that it is broken again for the 4th time in a month, they told me they had no record of ever completing any service calls on my washing machine. They were very rude. They scheduled a service appointment and said that the repairman needed to call them when he got to my house, because they didn't believe he'd even been there. I have never been treated like this, nor have I had this much trouble with an appliance. I have already had to take off 3 days of work, and am now going to have to take off a 4th and possibly 5th day so they can diagnose the problem and then come out to repair on another day. In addition, I have had to spend over $50 at the laundromat since I have not had a working washing machine for about a month now. I would just like to have a washing machine that works.
To date, I have had to take off 3 days of work, resulting in lost wages, totaling approximately $825. I have spent over $50 at the laundromat. In addition, the mold in the washing machine is causing my family to be sick and miss school and work.

Purchased a GE Top Loading Washing Machine (Model Number wpre6150howt; Serial Number mm105695g) on approx. 10-17-07 From Lowe's. Within days the unit was not operating properly, not draining water from the clothes. After numerous calls and e-mails to GE, I eventually figured out that there was either a broken or missing part--a small cone-shaped spacer under the tub/agitator assembly that one of the girls on the help desk seemed to indicate was a familiar problem. Their repeated answer was to send a service person out to look at the unit, however all appointments were 2-3 weeks away. Who can go without a washing machine for 2-3 weeks? I eventually talked to their complaint division and demanded that the part be sent out to me immediately. They assigned it a case number, and a woman named Linette shipped me the part overnight Fedex. I installed the part and the washer worked fine for a few weeks. I monitored the washing very closely as the part appears to be poorly designed materially for the job of supporting the washing tub loaded with water and clothes.
Sure enough the part has broken again, and the machine is now unusable again. I now went back to Lowe's where I bought the machine, talked to the store manager to ask Lowe's to help me to get GE to move on a resolution to the problem. Lowe's service advantage support people are not able to do any better than a 1-15-08 appointment. I was told to call them again on 1-2-08 to if they can do better. I do not yet know what the outcome will be, however I believe GE may be aware of a potential problem with their washing machine and should be forced to deal with it sooner rather than later.
I have spent at least 10 hours dealing with this problem so far with many more yet to come: Disconnecting and repairing the unit, reinstalling the unit, time wasted to go back to store seeking help, and lots of wasted phone and e-mail time. The unit has also ruined a few items of clothing.

They arrived on 9/8, verified the problem and needed to order a part. The part was ordered, and another appointment was scheduled on 9/28/07. The part was installed. For a few days our washer worked. It was again broken by 10/13/07, and the next available appointment Mr. Appliance had was 11/3/07. They never showed up. The excuse was the part they ordered was leaking in the box, and they didn't notice until they loaded it on the truck. On 11/15 they finally came out. After 3 days our washer was leaking all over the floor. The 28th they came out again to fix the washer and stop it from leaking. After another 3 days the washer was again not draining properly.
We called GE direct, because obviously Mr. Appliance was not taking care of this problem. We were told by GE Consumer Affairs that if the service tech came out again and the problem was the same as the previous problems, they would replace our washer. We scheduled an appointment the first day we could get off, because the call time is between 8 am-5 pm. GE repair arrived at our house on 12/26/07 at about 11:30 am. Again they replaced they same part, but we were told the machine would not be repaired. I called GE Consumer repairs and they told me they didn't have the note in the computer about replacing the washer.
I spoke with Donna, Shirley and finally Pam Clark on 12/27. The repair man advised we call, as he noted the washer would be in need of repair again soon, as the part he installed was only a band-aid. Pam Clark told me she would call Mr. Appliance to confirm the repair dates and return my call within 48-72 hours and let me know if GE would replace my washer. Well on 12/28 I did a load of laundry, and it ended soaking wet. SO on 12/31, after the weekend, since GE Consumer Affairs is not open on the weekends, I called and spoke to Corey. I was told I could not speak to Pam Clark; he was the only person I would be talking to that day, and the washer was under warranty so they would just keep fixing it. No replacement was available. I am currently waiting to hear back from GE and Home Depot, where I purchased the appliance. Jared, at the Rockland, MA, Home Depot stated I would get a new washer, as I was covered under the Lemon Law
Several days off of work - vacation time had to be used and cannot be recouped. Electric bill has gone up each month trying to dry these clothes that are not being spun properly in the washer.

I purchased a GE top loader washing machine, model # WLRR5000G0WW in June, 2007. The unit has failed and simply will not start. There is no problem with the wall outlet or electrical circuit breaker in the home. The unit has the push button start; it just won't start. When considering the washer is still on original factory warranty, I called GE to request a service technician. What an exercise in futility; the GE service technician had trouble with the English language and generally was the Chief Apologist for GE. However, the service technician did state that I could go to a laundromat for 12 days or so, until a GE service technician could visit my home for a repair. Choose ANYTHING other than GE. In fact, use a washboard, because any such device would be more reliable than a GE Washing Machine.

GE replaced the dryer in 9/2007 with the same model and it has the same problems and I have returned it within 2 months. I will never ever purchase another GE product ever again. We purchased a GE clothes washer approximately 4 years ago. Only a couple of months before the warranty ran out, the transmission in it imploded. It was covered under the transmission warranty (but only the parts). After an almost $200 labor bill, we again had a working washer. Now the transmission has apparently gone kaput again. The dryer we purchased at the same time gave us fits, too. We replaced it about 2 years ago when we found that the GE dryer was eating clothes. Of course, it was out of warranty as well.
What ever happened to major home appliances lasting any time? This is not my first set of problems with GE-- but with any luck, will be my last . I do not intend to give GE any more business. We are out the $200 labor, $350 for replaced dryer, and $500 for damaged clothes--plus invaluable time to take care of these issues.

First one the not-friendly Sears customer service person said we were using the wrong detergent. It would not get out spin cycle. We were using the right detergent. That was an hour conversation.
Turns out the discharge tube was pushed too far into the piping. Easy fix. It took Sears 2 weeks to come out and do this for us. Now we are waiting for the service person to come and fix the washer because it is leaking somewhere on the bottom of the machine. Realized it was leaking through the subfloor into the basement. AND the last load that we did tore up three shirts. I thought the front loaders were easier on your clothes because they didn't have an agitate cycle?
Sears was so concerned they said they would have someone out in the next 2 weeks. AND, we have to make sure we are available between 8AM and 5PM. That is garbage!!! The long and short of it; I will never shop at Sears again (TERRIBLE customer service), and I will never purchase GE again.

We bought our washing machine on June 3, 1996 and installed the same day -- General Electric Model # GJSR2080T2WW, it is a heavy duty model. Our household just had the transmission replaced on January 18, 2001, by a Camco approved technician. The part was under warranty, but the labour was $138.00 Canadian for about 45 minutes work by the technician.
The washer started to exhibit problems last fall, when we discovered water in the floor during a wash cycle. After removing the front access door of the washing machine we observed water exiting an overflow tube at the back/left of the machine. When we opened the hatch, of course it stopped rotating, it looked like it was free spinning. So we put half a clothes peg in the safety switch hole to simulate the hatch as closed. What we observed during a wash aggitation cycle was the drum accelerating into a spin. The action of the spin velocity caused the water to "crawl up" the drum by centrifical force, low and behold water started pouring out the overflow tube.
Anyway, the transmission was replaced, the technician left, but my wife discovered a "Service Bulletin" from General Electric Company, Appliance Park, Louisville, KY 40225. It was dated September, 1999. Titled "FULL SIZE WASHER, WASHER LEAKS AND TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENTS HL 8/99" Here is the text of the first paragraph: "As a result of the cooperation and efforts of our field technicians, our engineering department has been able to examine hundreds or returned transmissions. This has allowed us to understand and correct the problems that causes transmission failures. The quality or the transmission that is being built now is better then ever."
It seems to me that GE Appliances was fully aware of an engineering and design problem with their washing machines' drum/transmission/braking system well before September, 1999. We did not get an advisory from GE concerning the defective transmission. We purchsed GE because a perceived quality image, but that is quickly eroding the further I investigate the issue.

My clothes had spots of an oil like substance on them as well. I called a repair man to my home only to be told that the "transmission had gone out." He said the part should be covered by GE but that the labor cost was probably about as much or more than the part.
This is not to count the cost of my clothes that were ruined, the floor tile that was ruined under the machine, the service charges through the years and now this big expense that we have to inccur. The service man told us that GE washers namely this model is well known for this problem. I tried looking on the Internet for General Electric to file a complaint and try to locate a way to speak to someone about the problem.
