Our GE Profile stainless dishwasher malfunctioned similar to many other posts when the element did not shut off when the cycle completed. As it turns out, the control unit was melted and was the root cause of the issue. On my model, this is mounted inside the door. I discussed this at length with the repair technician and he indicated that while the original part is good, it does occasionally fail. The replacement control unit is heavier duty and supposedly so are the ones going into the new units. We were fortunate and had an extended warranty to cover its repairs with a relatively small deductible. In addition, I logged a complaint directly with GE because it was a hazard and a disaster waiting to happen had we not been home when everything overheated.
When I filed the electronic complaint with GE and discussed the destruction of the contents, they opened a claim with Electric Insurance for me and I am happy to report that they provided me nearly enough to cover replacement of all the contents. Our bottom rack was destroyed as even the wheels melted. Our silverware and utensils were covered in the plastic from the rack. Several glasses and dishes from upper and lower racks were broken or melted and several had their glaze cracked from the intense heat. The fumes were pretty awful and the counter would have been destroyed if it was a laminate. I now run the dishwasher when we are around as much as possible. Because of our extended warranty, I can't comment on what GE can or will do about the dishwasher itself. The repairs on the dishwasher for parts and labor ran a little over $600. This warranty paid for itself.

My GE Profile dishwasher, model # PDW8400J10CC, recently had the following problems: one of the wheels at the bottom rack burned off (literally fell off). The rack itself also shows a burn on that spot. I called GE and they are sending a replacement rack but I feel that this type of problem may be a fire hazard and should possibly be recalled and/or replaced. The physical damage was the burned off wheel and a burn in the area where the wheel was attached. I want to report this as in my book, this should not happen. The dishwasher is only two years old and is being used correctly.

We purchased a new home in August of 2007 and it came with GE Appliances. We have had to have our dishwasher repaired twice the first year. Then, last night, the heating element stayed on after the dishwasher turned off and melted not only the contents of the dishwasher, but some of the parts in the dishwasher. We're lucky the house didn't catch on fire! From reading the posts on this website, it sounds like this is a problem that has happened to others, which is why I'm reporting this. From reading the posts, it doesn't sound like GE is willing to take responsibility, so we are going to just purchase a new dishwasher, and not a GE!

We have had our new GE Profile dishwasher just over three years when my wife and children said something smelled funny. I went downstairs and could smell something burning. As I was checking the kitchen, I opened the dishwasher and was almost knocked over by the heat that was released. Not only were plates broken and the plastic dishes in the dishwasher melted, but the wheels on the bottom rack, the silverware rack, and other internal components to the dishwasher itself were melted.
When my wife called GE service, they said that they would pay for the parts but not the labor to install. When the repairman came out, he indicated that extreme heat and related melting of dishes and inside of the dishwasher itself was not an uncommon problem. It took approximately two months between when we made the first service call to when we received all the parts that needed replacing. It cost me $130 to repair a defective GE product. Luckily, it did not cost me my house or family.
It is appalling that GE knows of these problems and does not address them. I have contacted GE again and have indicated that I do not intend on paying for the labor since this is a known problem. I also intend on following up with the repair provider. Unfortunately, they are caught in the middle; and based on GE's attitude so far, I would expect GE to stiff them with the bill.

I purchased a GE Profile Dishwasher (PDW 9200N20BB) and it almost put my house on fire. The dishwasher was not on, but the heating element remained on, melting the entire inside of the dishwasher (as well as dishes and pots and pans in the dishwasher) while we were out of the house. If we did not return home when we did, the house would have been on fire. The dishwasher was destroyed, we lost good dishes, approximately 7 hours of electricity (LIPA) was wasted, and the smell of burning plastic that radiates through the house. Dealing with GE was horrible. They are very uncooperative.

My expensive stainless steel dishwasher with the upgraded, foldable rack system is junk. The foldable plastic portion of the rack breaks and/or chips my dishes. When I called to ask for a plain rack without the upgrade feature, I was told I was out of luck as that was a "consumable" item much like a water filter! I called everyone else they referred me to within their division and got the same answer over again. If a dishwasher breaks your dishes, why bother having one? If their rack is consumable as they say, then the dishwasher must be a throwaway item too. No more GE products for me ever again. They won't stand behind their product. Great job at keeping return customers, GE! If I want to continue to use my dishwasher, I have to fork over $108 dollars even while it is in warranty. Yikes! Highway robbery.

We purchased a GE Profile Stainless Dishwasher in April 2008 due to the fact that our other GE Profile dishwasher had a recall on it that could cause a fire. Before this, the other GE Profile we had was also recalled due to the crack on the tub. We purchased the SS dishwasher thinking they would have improved. No, GE can't get it right the first time. Now the heating element stays on after the wash cycle is complete. This is a fire hazard. We have been blessed that we have not had a fire from starting the wash before bed time, then the heat being on all night. I want to get this one replaced with no money out of our pocket. Pitiful GE.

On August 1 of last year, we purchased a GE Quiet Power 3 dishwasher from Lowe’s. It has worked intermittently since the second week; that is, it sometimes works and it sometimes does not. We have had GE service people at our home twice, which means I have had to miss work twice. And as a teacher, I can’t just take days off any time. However, the problem is still going on. The last time the GE service people came out, we were told that the dishwasher would be replaced if the problem continued. I have spoken with GE reps five times since then, and they tell us that we have to make another service appointment, requiring me to take more time from work.
After complaining about missing more school days, one of GE's representatives told me she would check with the last service technician and get back with me about replacement, but she never called back. And when I spoke with yet another representative, she claimed to have no record of the previous conversation. GE's customer service people have been rude and unhelpful. Meanwhile, we are still stuck with a dishwasher that only works part of the time. It seems that they are just putting us off until the warrantee expires.

Found out the 2 connecting panels were out. The cost of repair is almost as much as a new dishwasher. I only have to use the dishwasher every other day and never do pots and pans in it. We are retired and there is times it is only used every 3rd day. I firmly believe that GE should stand behind their products better. I am not surprised that GE is losing money and face a financial crisis.

Dishwasher was installed on January 6, 2006; it stopped cleaning dishes, made an extremely loud noise vibrating the room. A repairman was sent out on December 15, 2008 - charged $185.93. He said that Cascade liquid gel clogged the motor; he cleaned it and left. The next day, water poured out of dishwasher and the noise was worse. Tony came back and said the noise was common - that is ridiculous. I have called GE Service many times again; they said I must pay another $99.00 service call. They suggested I contact Consumer Relations. I cannot get through - I'm constantly on hold with the same recording. Invoice Number is **, GE Hotpoint Model No. GLD6300L00WW.

In the mail today, I was sent an early renewal offer. It seems that the GM, Direct Marketing, is not aware of the problem that I have had with the Service Protection Plus program. The letter stated, "You made a wise decision when you first acted to take advantage of the Service Protection Plus program." This was the biggest mistake I made procuring the GE washer. The letter also stated, "Expert Service - you don't have to spend time searching for an authorized service technician. We promptly dispatch a service call for you." GE did dispatch an authorized service technician from Pennsylvania, 120 miles away. The technician stated that I needed a new seal around the door. He put it on order and I had to wait a month for it to come in.
Once it came in, he came back to replace the seal but that did not fix the problem. He did not know what to do, so I had to place another service call. I took it upon myself to find an authorized technician who was 15 minutes from my house. He fixed it in 2 minutes. It did not require a seal, but move the machine 1/2 inch to the left so the door would close tight. So much for expert service. The letter also stated, "Dependability - you can count on GE, a name trusted and recognized worldwide and ranked the most admired company globally by Fortune Magazine* GE ranked first overall (February 2006 & March 2007)." So much for dependability. I will never buy another GE product. Service means nothing and this service protection plus program is a waste of consumers' dollars.

I called GE Cares to have my dishwasher looked at. The repairman came and looked at it stuck his hand into the washer and spin a knob all under 2 mins and charged me $225.00! I called GE customer service and told them of my situation and they could only tell me that they charge per job based on a computerized item code. I then said I'd like to know what that code is and ** informed me that it was none of my business. If I am paying them $225.00 for a 2 minute job, I'd like to know what I am paying for. The charge breaks down to $99.99 for showing up, I can live with that since they are doing me the service.
What I cannot live with is the $125.00 charge based on some arbitrary code in GE's system! I'd like to know what the code is for sticking one's hand into the dishwasher and spinning one of the impellers! I am frustrated because a computer code does not fairly charge the problem. One does not go into a doctor's office and get charge the same amount for an inpatient surgery vs. a check up just because it's within an office visit! That is basically what they are doing. I do not think this practice is isolated to GE, it is a widespread problem in many of these service-call industries. We are blindly gauged of monies, because once they show up and fix something we cannot refuse service.

We bought a new GE Nautilus dishwasher in 03/07 and recently had to have our entire kitchen torn out because of it. We noticed that our hardwood flooring in the kitchen seemed to be warping. My husband and I both thought maybe we had spilled something, but it just spread and got worse. We never saw any water on the floor so we did not realize there was an actual leak for over a week. At that point, half of the hardwoods in our kitchen were ruined and we had to make a claim to our insurance to fix it. They ended up having to take out half of our flooring and all of our lower cabinets to let the subfloor dry. It has been two days now and we still have 5 industrial blowers in what used to be our kitchen drying the floor. Our cabinets have to be rebuilt, all of our countertops need to be replaced and the entire kitchen/nook will have to be sanded and re-stained. The plumber who initially came out to see what was leaking ($150 not covered by insurance) said that the solenoid valve on our dishwasher was the problem. We have not contacted GE yet as we are waiting to see if our insurance company files a complaint. Also, being that it was six months out of warranty I have a feeling they will not do a thing for us!

I will never buy GE appliances again! I just had the GE repair man out to fix my dishwasher and my refridgerator. $112 dollars later and they are still broken. As for the dishwasher, I paid $30 for a molded piece of plastic plug and a spring which probably only costs them $3 max. The repair man didn't have the part with him and so it will be mailed to me. Instead of making another appointment to have it installed he was nice and showed me how to install it. He also let me know that there is a recall on the dishwasher. If I use the Jet Dry dispenser the appliance could catch on fire. Good to know, Huh! So a repair man will be coming to fix it afterall.
Next, the refridgerator. I missed the class action lawsuit by 2 months and now they want $600 to replace both doors. All this because the small plastic flap does not close when you get ice from the door dispencer. I had a repair man out about 3 months ago to tell me why my freezer kept flooding which caused damage to my wood floor. Yes, great time to fix the door too! The water that was melting was refreezing at the bottom of my freezer because the drain line was clogged. Well, he unclogged the drain line and said it was fixed but he never figured out the cause of the water. Which ends up being this little flap which doesn't close and lets warm air in which melts the ice.
GE offered rebates if I would rather buy new GE appliances instead of getting them repaired. No way will I take the rebate. My new appliances WILL NOT be GE. They don't stand behind there appliances and they are made out of cheap plastic parts! Over priced cheap plastic parts. Ironic, they don't want to waste their money on high quality parts, yet they make us pay the price of a high quality part. If GE stock is falling perhaps it is parallel with the dissatisfaction of the GE consumer.

We purchased our new construction home 2 years ago and had upgraded appliances which were the Stainless G.E. profile appliances. We were out of town and the board went out of the refrigerator, when we returned we had damage to our hardwood flooring, which G.E. did reimberse us for and we thought it was settled, until our dishwasher started acting up. We have a white chalky film all over our dishes. We had repair men come out to look at it and then again to replace the sump becaus the plastic was peeling off and plugging the drain.
That was a week ago and 181.00. The dishwasher is still acting up and leaving white chalk all over the dishes, I hope it is nothing harmful, but I am so sick of these appliances, now I have to have them come out again and G.E. will not waive the trip charge until they decide that it is the same problem.

We bought new GE profile appliances December 2006. First the microwave popcorn button never worked properly. Then at Thanksgiving 2007 I noticed the silver plated knobs on the range had melted. A few weeks ago, I came home to a burning smell. The dishwasher had not been started by me, and the dishwasher had melted. Had this happened a day later when we went out of town, we would be dealing with a house fire.
I burned my hand opening the dishwasher. The silverware basket is unusable. Pieces of plastic had also melted down onto the bottom spinner preventing it from spinning. One of the clips that allows you to reconfigure the racks are gone. One of the wheels are gone. I was promised 'next day service' after the parts came in. The guy never showed up. I spent 30 minutes navigating the phone tree and being placed on hold to be told I could only get an appointment next week!
I can't believe they wont replace the entire dishwasher. Even though the appliances are no longer under warranty, I insisted that the repairs will be free.

My GE Monogram model ZBD0700N has overheated twice in the past month, and get thisit is 2 months old!!! The first time, we lost a salad spinner and some tupperware. A tech came out and replaced the control module, saying that the temp control curcuit was faulty. Last night, my wife woke me up at 2:30am and alerted me that there is a very strong burning smell in the house. I ran downstairs to find that the diswasher, WHICH WASNT EVEN TURNED ON BEFORE WE WENT TO SLEEP, literally started itself with no water and was burning everything inside of it. I just spent $80K on a kitchen remodel and the heat would have definitely ruined the adjacent cabinetry had my wife not woken up to the smell.
Everything in the dishwasher that was plastic (including the dishwasher rack, the rotating spray bar, and the few pieces of meltable kitchenware inside, was melted to the point where they were literally dripping and gluing themselves to the bottom of the dishwasher. I placed a meat thermometer on the granite countertop above the dishwasher and it measured that the countertop was heated to OVER 120 degrees!
What is GE selling, especially for nealy $1500? This dishwasher is toast and will have to be replaced, with the help of my lawyer if necessary, by my appliance dealer. (its 7:30 am right now and I have not called them yet). My advice is BEWARE: GE has a serious problem. There are horror stories all over the 'net about several GE dishwashers doing the same thing. Im hoping that they issue a recall on this model, as it could cost you your home if you are not lucky enough to catch it in time.

The retailer, Great Indoors, decided that replacing the unit was the safest option. The fourth dishwasher was installed on 6/8/07. On 8/19/08 this unit's heating element turned on by itself making my granite countertops so hot they were untouchable, melted plastic dishes to a BOILING liquid as well as melting the elements of the dishwasher itself including but not limited to the water spray arm and cutlery basket.
After the first burning incident on 6/8/07 I spent numerous hours trying to report this possible fire hazard to GE so that they could inform their customers. I was given six different telephone numbers- leaving a message every time and never receiving a return call. My intentions are to make the public aware of the possible fire hazard of this dishwasher.
After researching the Consumer Affairs website. I learned of more than ten other GE dishwashers exhibiting the same potential fire hazard issues--the dishwasher's heating element turns on by itself and burns to the point of melting itself, boiling plastic, affecting countertops and cabinets not to mention electrical and plumbing damage. This document is attached for your review. As of today, GE will only replace the dishwasher with the same or similar model, refusing to refund me the $1,200 I paid for this unit. I was told there was no one else I could speak to but could write a letter of appeal and mail it to GE Headquarters.
I have photographed the damage and the photos can be found at pe/DishwasherHazard. The white liquid is boiling plastic. The photos are available for your review if should need them. It is my hope that you take into consideration the safety and welfare of others, unlike GE. It is because of organizations like yours that the consumer can rest assured that you will take dangerous and faulty products off the market; unlike big businesses like GE, as clearly indicated in this case.

The dishes would come out of the washer with baked on soap. It was baked on and could not be washed off with soap and water. They had to be washed in vinegar. To use the machine you had to rinse or prewash by hand, wash them in the machine, soak in vinegar and then wash and hand dry the dishes. GE service came out three times. Each time they told me to change soap.
Once the service man (#2) called engineering and they gave me a forth set of suggestions. GE customer service on the internet said Sorry. The service men that visited our house said the machine mechanically works. It just did not wash dishes clean (SORRY). They would not replace the machine. The service kept recommending different water temperature and soap. I tried every one but one. Many of the recommendations were contradictory and against the manual and each other. The one I did not try was because the manual said not to.
Home Depot finally took it back and gave me store credit. I spent over 2 months trying to make it work. I bought assorted plumiing tubes, plumbing fittings and electrical stuff. But GE did say they were sorry. They apperently have a consumer person that call up customer and instead of fixing the problem they say Sorry.

I have a GE Dishwasher in a rented apartment. Recently the door locking mechanism on the dishwasher started to fail. Basically part way through the cycle the dishwasher would just click off and start bleeping, if you pressed the right hand side of the door in really firmly, it would restart, but then repeatedly click off again during the cycle. Sometimes to get it to finish a cycle takes in excess of 10 user interventions.
The problem was reported to GE, and GE were told to give me 1/2 hour notice of arrival so I could walk back from work. I got no notification, and received a call from the tech when he was already at my apartment. I started to walk back immediately (10 minute walk) and the super let him into my apartment. By the time I got back, he had already left claiming the problem was resolved.
When I tested it, the fault still recurred (given that the problem normally only manifests itself 15 minutes into a wash cycle he did not stay long enough to diagnose the fault). We rebooked a service call for 2 days later. The same tech turned up saying it was an installation problem. I persuaded him to remove it from under the counter and run it in the middle of the floor. He then only stayed a couple of minutes before leaving saying he had been unable to find the fault. Within a couple of minutes of him leaving the fault recurred.
I then complained to GE in writing, and booked another appointment for the following business day. The third appointment no-one even turned up for. The appliance is under warranty; however, I have now had to book a local non-GE service tech to get the problem resolved. When GE got around to addressing my complaint, they basically said that the tech claimed it was an installation fault and they would do nothing. When I pointed out that it still didn't work when uninstalled, they repeated the same claim. When I repeated my point they put the phone down on me. I will certainly never buy a GE appliance as long as I live. Not only are the appliances useless, but the service is worse than useless.
No damage, but I have wasted considerable time during the working day in dealing with appointments that have been either useless, or just haven't happened.

We used to own an old model of GE dishwasher and it had worked well until a few months ago. We found that every time after washing dishes, there was dirty water left inside the washer, so in March, 2008 I scheduled GE service online.
The service personnel came over and inspected the washer and told me the cause of the problem was the problem with the motor of my dishwasher and repairing that motor would solve the problem but cost over $300. Then he told me of an alternative solution: I can replace this old one with a new one at just a little more than one hundred dollar more and the problem would be solved also. I thought it was a good idea so I agreed. He ordered a new dishwasher for me right away and told me that someone would come and replace the dishwasher for me at no additional charge. I paid the full amount of the new one and waited to see my problem get solved.
The model of the new dishwasher: GLD4400N10CC.
By the way, the service personnel didnt tell me that the replacement is of a program called TARP.However, after the new dishwasher was installed, I found the problem remained every time I washed the dishes, dirty water was left inside the new dishwasher!!!
As I had to go on an international business trip to China, I didnt call GE on the problem until May 6th, 2008, right after I got back from my trip. First, I dialed 1-888 to talk to GE service personnel and was told that the service I received was called TARP and gave me another telephone number to call. I called that number and the person on the other end of the line told me that she could not help because I accepted TARP program and the new machine works normally. Then she gave me the address and fax number of GE Appliance Head Office and told me to write to you.
After then I had to go back to China again and just returned home yesterday. Now Im writing to you and hope to get this problem solved.First of all, I contacted GE service personnel to get my problem solved and the GE service personnel told me that the cause of my problem was the motor of the old dishwasher and by repairing the motor or replacing the entire unit, the problem would be gone. That was not correct.
Due to his misleading, I ended up paying over $400 without solving the problem FOR WHICH I ordered GEs service.
Therefore, I contacted GE either to get my problem solved or get my cost for the new dishwasher refunded. However, the only reply I got was, since there is no problem with the appliance, we cannot help!

MOD.PDW928055 SER.211773287B.
The new dishwasher was purchased in 1/08. I mailed the rebate form on 02/04/08. Rebate form stated to call the 800# if we did not receive the rebate in 6 weeks which puts the date at 03/17/08. We had the birth of our first child on 02/07/08 so we didn't really pay attention to that date. I finally realized it had not come in April. I called GE at the specified 800# on 04/15/08, which is 10 weeks passed the mailing date. I was told that my rebate information was received by them but "for some reason" had not been fully processed and that they would complete the processing and I should expect the rebate to arrive in 3-5 weeks. I accepted this even though I thought it irresponsible on their part. Some things are not worth the fight.
Here we are now 05/28/08 and still no rebate. I called the 800# once again yesterday. After taking what seemed like 10 minutes to again go through all the prompts I was connected with a person who like the last person told me to wait only this time I was told it takes 6-8 weeks so I should just keep waiting. I told the woman on the phone that I thought GE was being very ridiculous with their processing and asked what I should do if I don't get it after waiting another couple of weeks. She said she'd give me a customer # and that I should call back, press #5, and then give them my customer #. I asked her if this was a common occurrence since they seemed to have a format set up for this situation. She said she couldn't answer that and that all she could suggest is that I keep waiting.
I will never buy another GE product again and will be sure to spread the word. What a scam. $300 dollars is nothing to laugh at and so I will have to waste time out of my days calling these people to be sure to get a rebate. Just plain ridiculous. Lost $300 from rebate and had to spend $1257.75 to purchase a new dishwasher.

The dishwasher basically burned up and melted the whole inside. The temperature was so hot that the granite counter tops were extremely hot to the touch. Inside tub was melted plastic and burned and cracked dishes. The washer appeared to be off with and internal heater of some sort left on after cycle finished. The heating effect stopped when we shut off the breaker. We contacted GE that day and ask for a service repairman to insure us that it was now safe, they showed up 2 days latter. This was over 1 month ago, and they are still looking for parts to repair the dishwasher. WE DO NOT WANT IT REPAIRED, WE WANT OUR MONEY BACK!
We lost several dishes, as the melted plastic was not removable and some dishes were cracked.

I pretty much stuck with GE appliances for years because they were a good product. Boy has that changed. Our side-by-side refrigerator/freezer is four years old. Our dishwasher four and a half. We wash the dishes before we put them into the dishwasher - thus rendering it, in effect, an extra storage unit and little else. The fridge was the third GE fridge in less than 10 years.
Our daughter gave us a new GE coffee grinder/coffee maker for Christmas. It lasted a whole 57 days. We keep the refrigerator going by totally emptying and unplugging it every other week. (We lose a lot of food to spoilage.) It is the only kind that fits into the space allotted. Right now we can't afford to replace it, but trust me, when we do, we will rip out the wall so that we don't have to purchase another GE.
Wrote a letter to the president of the company. They called and gave me a response which indicated that their appliances are only expected to last four years and essentially what was I complaining about. I think this is hopeless and I plan to write about it in my newspaper column. I love to write about companies that treat consumers with disdain.

Purchased a new GE Profile dishwasher from Home Depot in Dec 2007. It arrived in Jan 2008 and was hooked up in Feb. Had problems right away with it. It didn't clean the dishes at all. Had a Mabe service repairman (Dave) come to look at it. Couldn't find a problem. Dave came a second time checked everything again. Still no reason. Still did not clean, everything dirty. Had to wash dishes by hand after taking out of dishwasher. Baked on grime. May 4th 2008 woke up to house filled with smoke.
Dishwasher caught fire. Melted the whole inside. So hot that it warped our new $3,000.00 counter tops. Inside tub was melted plastic and burned cracked dishes.Dishwasher simply did not shut off after cycle finished. I turned the dishwasher off and reclosed the door. It keep burning even though it was off. Went to Home Depot with dishwasher, they couldn't believe it. On their file was a report from Mabe regarding their service calls. It said that the repairman had recommended that I turn up the hotwater tank and that I declined to do that. Total lie!
I called the repairman and he said he never said that. May 5th called Mabe and held for 45 minutes. Louie said he would send a tech over to look at the damage and see about repairs. I thought to myself you have got to be kidding me. Requested to speak to a manager but was told they would have to call me back and that could take up to 72 hrs.
I am out approx $300.00 that it cost us to upgrade to a LG Dishwasher, plus my newly installed countertops are warped and I will have to pay $500.00 deductible for insurance. All my plates, pots, cutlery gone. Lucky that we didn't sucumb to the smoke in our house or worse yet burn to death.

I purchased a GE dishwasher on 11/18/07. I have had severals problems with getting the dishwasher to start. I contacted GE and they said they would send someone out to repair it. The repairs for dishwasher were 258.00. Because the dishwasher was less then 1 year old, GE told me that they would pay me back for the repairs. Since then the dishwasher has gone out 2 more times. I have wasted several hours on the phone with GE, changed appointments around, rescheduled Dr. appointments for my children, and stood in my kitchen boiling water trying to sanitize baby bottles.
The repair tech was supposed to come out today to repair the dishwasher for the third time. After no one showed up, I called GE again and asked why no one came by to repair the dishwasher? They told me that they were ordering a part. How could they order a part when they didn't come out to see what the problem was. GE is now telling me that they will not be able to come back for another week. I have talked to supervisors and they are no help. I have never had such horrible service in my life. This is the last GE product I will ever buy.
I have had to reschedule appointments for my business. I have spent several hours on the phone. I have wasted time waiting at home for techs that don't show up.

A new GE dishwasher (Model # GLD4260L00SS) was installed into a new home which we moved into in December 2005. When we first tried the dishwasher there was a major water leak. I assumed the plumber had made a mistake; after further investigation I found that during manufacture, GE had failed to either tighten several hose clamps or in one case did not connect the hose. I tightened the hose clamps and attached the hose. This corrected the leaking problem for approximately 2 1/2 years.
We then began noticing water in front of the dishwasher. This was coming from around the door. The plastic that the door seal is mounted on had deformed, not allowing the door to make proper seal. I did not contact GE service due to past experience. The problem was corrected by purchasing a different brand dishwasher. I never plan to purchase any product that has the GE name or is made by GE again.

We bought 2 GE dishwashers, one for ourselves and one for my mother. Ours arrived with a cracked interior door liner. After the GE repairman fixed the door the dishwasher leaked water all over the floor. It is still not fixed. My mother's arrived and quit working after the first wash. Took a month to get a new one. The new one had a broken tab on the top rack so the rack fell out. Installers also installed incorrectly. They broke off the mounting brackets, incorrectly installed the high-loop drain hose, and had left the water hose kinked up behind the cabinet. Since the mounting brackets had been broken off they drilled 2 holes in the top of the dishwasher to mount it! My husband fixed those problems himself because he was so fed up with the bad service from GE.

I noticed the various GE Profile Dishwasher recalls, but I did not see one covering purchases for 1996 unless I did not actually see it. The model is #GSD4030Y70WW and serial #GR825780B. The dishwasher was installed at the time our home was being built. Approximately 1/28/08 I ran the dishwasher late in the evening. When I went to bed that night I thought the cycles had just finished since I could still hear it. When my husband got up at 3:30 a.m. to get ready for work our entire house was smoky & smelled like melted plastic. He heard the machine making a funny noise & when he opened it, several older plates, Tupperware bowls, and hard plastic drinking glasses had melted to the racks. The glasses were even in the top rack. Everything was too hot to even touch when I left at 7:00 a.m. Needless to say, this odor remained in the house for several days.
We had to replace the dishwasher that costs a great deal more than the GE, but didn't want to purchase another GE product again. When shopping at our local Sears & Best Buy stores each sales person told us to contact GE about a recall for this problem. I have yet to contact GE, but it doesn't look by the other customer complaints it will do any good. The dishes cannot be easily replaced due to their age & he glasses were used by the grand children & were their favorites. At the price of the new machine we could not afford to have it installed by Sears or their contractor. My husband & I had to get it into the house and with help from another family member tear out the GE & installed our new machine. Any information regarding my old GE washer would be helpful or any guidance with how to deal with this. Thank you.

I also have a GE dishwasher bought in September 28, 2002. After investigating a bad smoky chemically smell on our glasses, we discovered that the hole where the filter goes into the floor of the dishwasher was disintegrating with pieces missing. The clips on the wheels attached to the rack are breaking or have broken, and on the underside of the bottom rack, rust has eaten away at the rung. This is where the cutlery tray is, and the coating on the rung was visually intact until it was touched. The coating is also falling off as it is touched on the other rungs of the 2 racks. The machine is 4 months past the limited 5-year warranty.
This machine was expensive. I would have hoped that the problems would have not started until at least into the 9th or 10th year of service. It is incredible how this machine is disintegrating.

Profile Dishwasher bought new in 2006 overheated, almost started a fire, melted everything in the washer. GE replaced the dishwasher with a newer model. This one does not clean the dishes. There is always either food left on the dishes, stains on the dishes, a soap film or a gritty feel on the surface on the dishes, pots, pans etc.The water in the dishwasher is cold. The water going into the dishwasher was at 120degrees but was lukewarm to the touch in the dishwasher. A GE repairman came numerous times and stated the following: do not use liquid detergent, use powder instead, run hot water in sink while dishwasher is being used? He stated that the heat from the water is being absorbed by the stainless steel tube and until the tube is hot the water will be cold or lukewarm. The unit also has an added heat function that we used all the time and it does not heat the water, sometimes it works, most times it does not. The repairman was not knowledgeable as to the functioning of the added heat as to when it turns on and off. He also did not check to see if the function was working. The units digital control panel does not function properly. It displays different times for the same function. Every time we use the dishwasher it has a different run time for the cycles with the same added features selected.
The first dishwasher that overheated warped my countertop and ruined a full load of cookware. The second unit is costing me more in electric, natural gas and water to operate. Every load has to be run several times and than certain items have to be hand washed afterward. This takes up valuable time.

On June 23, 2007, I purchased from Lowe's an entire suite of GE Profile appliances for my total kitchen remodel. The GE Profile dishwasher model number is PDW9980NSS. The appliances were delivered on 7/20 and installed by my contractor on 8/2/07. The appliances were beautiful and I enjoyed their matching, sleek, stainless steel look. On Saturday night, 9/15, I started the dishwasher. When the cycle completed, I opened the door to facilitate dish drying. Before going to bed, I closed the door to the dishwasher. Sometime between 10:00 p.m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning, the dishwasher turned itself on and overheated.
Everything plastic inside the dishwasher melted, including the spin arm at the bottom and the dish and utensil racks. The dishwasher and the quartz countertop above it were both extremely hot to the touch and did not cool down for about two hours. I immediately turned off the electricity to the dishwasher at the breaker box and called the appliance manager at Lowes. When he arrived he took several pictures and was extremely shocked when he saw the interior of the dishwasher. Management at Lowes later explained to me that before Lowes could do anything, GE would have to send a repairman to access the situation.

In August of 2007, I had my six-year-old GE Profile dishwasher serviced as part of the recall concerning the rinse-aid leak and the resulting possible fire hazard. The sound-dampening insulation was removed from the door as part of the repair, and it was not replaced. When I called GE to complain and see about getting the insulation replaced, I was told that it was not part of the repair - that the insulation could not be replaced because it interfered with dispensing the rinse aid.
There are no parts inside the door for dispensing rinse aid. But the rinse aid tub leaks, and GE did not want to fix the true problem. They just replaced the wiring harness and removed the old insulation which was soiled with rinse aid. I assume that leaving out the insulation will reduce the fire hazard as the rinse aid tub continues to leak. I was told under no circumstances would GE replace that insulation as part of the recall.
So now I'm left with a very loud dishwasher and no recourse. I spent the extra money for a quiet GE dishwasher, and now I have a loud one. I could have easily bought a much cheaper dishwasher that would have performed similarly. I am very unhappy with how GE has handled this situation.

GE came out 3 times. After replacing the computer in the unit, they stated that this was normal, and that all of these particular models did this. After 5 months of having people here, they admitted that it was a computer glitch, and non-fixable. Because it took them so long to fess up to the glitch, the store would not take it back.
