GE Dishwasher Model GLD7400R10BB - Remodeled my kitchen about 2 1/2 years ago and replaced all my appliances with GE appliances. I noticed that every now and then my dishwasher wasn't starting or running through a full cycle. I had called the GE repairman because my microwave was not heating up and asked him to take a look at my dishwasher as well. After hearing it was going to cost me $500.00 to fix my still under warranty microwave and the control board was no good and very expensive to replace because my one year warranty had past on my dishwasher, I will never invest in the money hog GE ever again! WARNING... DO NOT BUY GE!

Even though the dishwasher was bought 15 months ago, it was only used for the last past 5 months. There is no water fill up the washer. When I call GE for the service, the operator keeps saying that it is out of one-year warranty and I have to pay everything to fix it; I have proof that the product was in use under 5 months. The product clearly has a problem. I am not happy with their services and with the product.

Month Long Dish Washer Installation from Hell (Try #3 the best).

Install Try 1 (I took off work for): "Oops, I ordered the wrong hose. I am going to have to come back next week to install. I will call you and set something up." (installer). Next week Friday: "Hello is this GE Installation services Umm it's Friday and the guy never called or showed up this week to install my dishwasher I just purchased??!?" (me). We then set up a time for the following week. How unprofessional.

Install Try 2 (I took off work for): "Umm still didn't bring the right hose. Can you go to Home Depot for me and buy the right one and bring it back?" (installer). "Ahh No!?! This is your problem not mine." (me). "Well I will have to come back then." (installer). "You have to be kidding me. I have to take another day off work?!?" (me). Finally he gets a guy to come with the correct hose. "Umm, can I borrow a screw driver and some tools from you?"(installer). "You have to be kidding me, sure? " (me). Installer proceeds to drop the sides and fumble around banging the pieces on my NEW floor. Finally getting it installed. "It doesn't look right. Don't the feet raise up and shouldn't the dishwasher be flush to the cabinets????!? and it looks crooked??" (me). "Nope." (installer). I file a complaint and the guy removes my $60 install fee and sends another team out to fix it.

Install Try 3 (I took off work for): 3 guys come and re-install dishwasher worse than the guy before them. From the other room you hear banging around and "Oops, I broke a screw etc..." This is what happens afterwards. "Umm the plastic backing and sides are showing. It's pushed out farther than it was from the first guy. It definitely is NOT supposed to look like that. Plus it's loose???" (me). "Best we can do. Bye." (install team). "This doesn't seem right...."(me). "Oh no, it's leaking!!!!!!!!!!!!" (me). So I called a plumber to come ASAP as I said before it's NEW wood floor. New Plumber NOT associated with GE or Home Depot (who I probably will be getting a nice bill for calling last minute) proceeds to fix my dishwasher for the next 4 hours...

Here is a small list of problems: 1) it's leaking; 2) the foot vibrated off; 3) screws broke off; 4) damage to hose; 5) bottom plate installed at angle not even remotely level; 6) scratched up floor and cabinets; 7) installed too far forward and too low. This is the list. So far we still are trying to figure out where it is leaking from and if the dishwasher even will work. Thank god I actually got a Professional this time unlike GE/Home Depot's teams. I then called GE Install services 1-800-432-7167 again and this is what they had to say: "We already refunded you the 60 dollars. There is nothing we can do but we will file your complaint." I called again to speak with a manager and after a long conversation, he gave me $62 off my order. -- And let me tell you that is not going to cover the cost of the plumber I just hired to fix your mess. Not to mention the 3 days off work I took. Irritated I hung up.

I bought a fridge, cook top, and double oven with GE along with this dishwasher. I wish I hadn't given them my business. Apparently, I am supposed to call back if the dishwasher doesn't work when my plumber is done working on it. Oh I WILL be calling back, you can bet on it. As for now I just hope he finds the leak... Moral of the story is NEVER use the install services they offer. You are better off getting your own plumber from the start.

I have a new GE profile model PDWT380VSS - Two in fact. The first one kept breaking glasses in the top rack. GE technicians could not find an answer so they replaced the Dishwasher. Now six months later it's doing it again. This replaced a perfectly good, older model as part of a remodel. They'll be sending another tech who I suspect will not have an answer. Any thoughts on what could be causing this or a way around it or is it to be expected? The first GE profile I had for several years with no such issues.

When we bought our house we upgraded our GE appliances to stainless steel. I had no problems with the dishwasher until a few days ago. Then it stopped working completely. As with most of the complaints I have read the control panel was not working. We took the front door apart just to see if the dishwasher was worth salvaging or should we buy a new one. A screw was NEVER installed on the vent assembly to hold it in place. The entire inside if the door was corroded by steam and/or water. So every wash slowly degrading the electronics. 18 months, 6 months past its warranty where now it's "out of their hands" and "you can pay $89 to have someone just look at it". We were lucky it just broke because this hidden mistake on their part could have not only caused a short circuit but a fire. Like so many of the other stories. I will not buy GE again.

I remodeled my house 5 years ago and went with the GE Profile appliances in my kitchen. Last week I had run the dish washer cycle and noticed the soap had not dissolved and the dishes didn't seem to be clean so I ran the cycle again. I started it at about 8 pm and we went to bed not thinking any more about it. About 1 am I awoke to a horrible plastic burning smell. I checked through the whole house and could not find where it was coming from until I entered the kitchen. As I entered the room my eyes started streaming from the burn. I opened the dishwasher and smoke starting bellowing out of it. Not just smoke but a toxic smoke filled the room. The inside of the dishwasher was so hot and everything plastic inside was melted. The bottom drawer and parts of the dishwasher were also melted. The silverware tray full of silverware was all melted together. This all occurred in a matter of 5 hours. Had I not woke up when I did, who knows if we would have woke up.

The house was full of toxic smoke that did not trigger the smoke detectors. We just went ahead and purchased a new dishwasher and had it installed yesterday. This morning my husband decided to do a little research on this product and found there was a recall last year. I contacted GE and found that our model was not part of the recall because it has a stainless steel interior, only the plastic interiors are part of the recall. I also found out that had we called them and had them send out a certified GE technician look at it, they would replace it.

Too late it has already been replaced and sent to the recycle center. I did take pictures and have record of the model and serial number which doesn't matter. I just want to get it out there that this product is also dangerous and a fire hazard. This product could have easily caused a fire in my home. I also wish I would have done more research before we replaced it. Our new dishwasher is a GE Profile...

Have a three-year-old townhouse in New England that came with GE appliances. Within months the microwave needed a new circuit board and, later, the auto open vent is making funny noises when it opens and closes. WORSE: Dishwasher on fritz in third year, requiring a new computer control pad. The cost: $283. American-labeled products produced in other parts of the world are going to cost twice or three times as much before their useful life is over. Shop with care, friends.

We remodeled our kitchen three years ago and purchased three GE cafe products: the dishwasher, microwave, and stove. The stove has been wonderful, no problems. The microwave was defective when we purchased but was easily repaired by the install of a new circuit board (I believe that is what it was called). Anyhow, no problems since. The dishwasher has been a big disappointment (it too needed a new circuit board) in regards to its performance. Dishes come out looking horrible as if there is still soap on them! I tried different types of soaps, the liquid, tabs, and rinse aids. Nothing seemed to work!

I finally gave up on the liquid and my husband cleaned out the liquid dispenser completely and I only used the tabs as the results seemed to be a bit better. I regretted trashing our 15+ year old dishwasher that worked wonderfully! I am giving my review three stars because my coworker suggested I try a product called Lemi Shine (you can purchase at Target). I was not hopeful but it was the answer to my dishwasher prayers!

It is incredible and I have used it for a few months now and have no complaints about my dishwasher’s performance. I use only the tab dispenser (Finish Powerball) and then I sprinkle Lemi Shine around the tab and my dishes are clean with NO residue! As an added bonus, the inside of the dishwasher is spic and span too! I guess I didn't notice how filmy and cloudy it had become. Try Lemi Shine and I hope it works for all of you too!

Thanks to my 10- and 4-year-old kids who were in the living room playing, when they smelled smoke, they quickly ran and got the fire extinguisher and yelled to my wife. They ran out of the house and called the FD. Their quick thinking prevented it from getting worse. While on the phone, I had her go and turn off the circuit breaker. The induction stove (the main burner) doesn't work and the replacement part was delivered to my house and that was delivered broken. The fan in the refrigerator broke and still remains broken. I had trouble from the beginning; the dishes came out hazy. When I called GE, they said to use the recommended detergent; I did. The dishes came out hazy and smelled like detergent. They messed around long enough with that and getting someone out to fix the controls, which did not work properly, until enough time lapsed and I could not get a refund. The dishwasher turned itself on after a power outage. It was not running when the power went out and was running non-stop for God knows how long before it was noticed. This happened at Thanksgiving time, and they had service out at 6 weeks so I had to do Thanksgiving dishes by hand. After that, they postponed for another 2 weeks. I got a replacement dishwasher, thanks to the Home Depot Manager.

The dishes come out stinky and hazy; sometimes, there is visible soap residue on the glassware. I even ran the dishes through a second no detergent cycle and still had residue on the dishes. The controls do not work. We have to turn the power on and close the door 3 or 4 times before it will come on. We are afraid to leave the circuit breaker on when we leave as we are unsure if it will start on its own like the first one did. It is also the worst designed layout for loading any dishes. This is totally unacceptable as soap residue causes intestinal difficulties, and you should not have to be afraid that your dishwasher will take on a life of its own and start. I highly recommend you do not waste your money on this dishwasher. GE has extremely poor customer support. Home Depot support was great. This makes two GE Profile Dishwasher in less than a year and two strike outs. They will not get the chance for a third out. We are getting a KitchenAid.

We bought 3 GE Profile appliances in 2005 when we renovated our kitchen. We have not had much problem with the gas oven/range/stove. We have, however, had nothing but problems with the microwave (which I submitted a separate review for) and the dishwasher. Recently, a friend made some suggestions regarding the dishwasher. I then went online and watched some tutorials on troubleshooting my dishwasher problems. I tried all the new suggestions and the dishwasher worked OK the one or two times after that and then back to all the old problems:

    1. We have to scour every dish until it's nearly clean before loading (even though the instructions specifically stated no pre-rinsing necessary).
    2. I am not sure the soap cup opens. The soap is always left caked in the cup resulting in running the dishwasher twice. We have tried all kinds of various soaps and they all do the same thing. The eco-friendly soaps are the worst. We strive to be eco-friendly, but how can we be if we are using the harshest soaps possible AND running our dishwasher twice?! Not to mention the pre-rinse scour and running water until it is 120 degrees prior to running.

    3. The dishwasher also leaks and is very noisy.

I have read some other reviews on this product and realize our dishes are not always dry at the end. This is a non-issue for me. I don't care so much if the dishes are dry. I do prefer for them to be clean. Dishes are a task I do not prefer to do. It would be nice to have a functioning helper. I am grateful the thing hasn't caught on fire. I saw that this dishwasher currently sells for $800-$1,500. I cannot believe it. I wouldn't spend $100 on this piece of junk.

The fridge had to be replaced (we lost over $1000 in just food) - the replacement fridge had to be repaired. The customer service is awful. They are just trained NOT to be helpful. GE takes no responsibility for putting out such low quality, high priced appliances. We brought a GE GLD4466RSS 1.5 year ago, but GE called us saying there was no GLD4466RSS in stock so they would send an upgraded model, GLD5666V00SS, and it would take 20 more days to deliver because it would come from US (I'm in Canada). We said okay. At least, we will get a better machine. Wrong! That is where our nightmare started. We got the machine and it never worked properly. Full cycle doesn't go through until end every time. We can choose whatever cycle that it will have only a quick pre-wash cycle in only 20 minutes. The soapbox opens once in a while and if you don't open the door, it will re-run the 20-min cycle every 2 hours. In the beginning, it happened only once in a while but now, it works only like that (never have full cycle).

We called GE warranty services few times and got few parts replaced. At the second time, we requested to replace the machine since we had same problems and we thought there was no point to try to fix it again. But we were told by the service company that GE wouldn't change until they try all tentative to repair the machine. I've done some search and couldn't find this model on sale. I believe this crap was the worst model they have ever built and they wanted to get away of the stock somehow. We regret for not rejecting this machine and accepting the tentative to repair it because this crap is ready to go to garbage and we will need to buy another one. Of course, we won't ever buy a GE appliance again, ever.

The GE repairman just left. It wasn't the coil that was flaking, it was the eco dish washing detergent I was using. The detergent wasn't dissolving, it was clogging up the jets and burning on the coil. What I was seeing was black burned detergent flakes. The repairman gave me citric acid to use to clean out the clogs (for free). He also didn't charge me for the visit, even though it was my fault. He also told me to get the water in my sink really hot before I start the dishwasher. I am very impressed with his service!

We bought 6 new GE appliances when we purchased a new home. The reason: my husband worked for GE for 35 years and we wanted tell our friends how happy we are with them! Now, we are sorry we have to complain about the dishwasher (Model #GDWF160R1OSS). The only good thing about it is how quiet it is. We have tried many different soap products, a little soap, more soap, Rinse Aid, half clean or nearly clean dishes placed inside, only to have the glassware looking horrid, not clean and cloudy. Service man offered suggestions but none have worked. The stainless steel interior also looks horrid because of streaks. So much for energy efficiency when we have to wash all our glassware by hand to get the residue of soap off them. Another dishwasher we have had for 25 yrs. does an excellent job - so don't blame it on the phosphate removal from soap.

We purchased our GE Cafe stainless steel dishwasher in May of 2012. Periodically, it leaks around the bottom of the door. I have to put a plastic container on the floor to catch the water. This is bad enough and very disappointing, but the next and most important issue I have with it is the fact that it doesn't clean properly. I always, each and every load, rewash 3 to 4 items. The stainless handles also get very hot to the touch, which isn't very safe for a toddler. If I had the strength, I'd pick it up and throw it out the back door. We first noticed a problem with our two-year old dishwasher when the lower spray arm broke. Soon after, the door seals started to leak, and we noticed the seal at the bottom of the door had completely degraded becoming brittle and breaking off. Our warranty had expired, but I contacted Mabe. They agreed to replace the parts free of charge, which amounted to approximately $300. I expressed concern that the dishwasher may have been overheating, causing the above problems, but this wasn't given credence as the technician didn't speculate in his report on the cause of the damage.

Within the next month, we had a massive water leak. Upon inspection, the dishwasher showed signs of extreme heat. The sound insulation had bubbled and melted off much of the exterior of the tub. The electrical supply cord had a scorch mark. Once again, Mabe was notified. After much negotiation, they agreed to refund the price of the dishwasher. Initially, they had offered a certificate valued at 50% of the cost of our dishwasher towards the purchase of another GE dishwasher. This offer was declined as we won't have another GE dishwasher in our home unless we're convinced there's no fire hazard.

There are significant repairs required to our home due to water damage but we consider ourselves lucky to have avoided a fire. GE has had problems with their dishwashers in the past which resulted in a massive recall. It's time for them to acknowledge that there is a problem with the Cafe line and take measures to rectify the problem before someone is injured.

Two years ago, we noticed that the gaskets, both around the tub and on the bottom of the door, were becoming gummy and rippling. We were hoping to make it another couple of years before buying a new dishwasher, but a couple of week ago, the top arm fell off because the gasket was so degraded. We ordered the appropriate parts and were only able to replace the top-arm gasket and the tub gasket. We had to call an authorized GE repairman, specifically RC Appliance in Sparks, NV.

When he tried to get the gasket out, his hands turned black from the rubber. After about an hour of trying to get the new gasket installed, he had to use his pliers to crimp the gasket in place leaving large dents along the bottom edge of the door. He said the factory had crimped the old gasket in place at the factory from the other side. I am extremely unhappy about the workmanship and the fact that the gaskets did not last a reasonable time. I don't want to seek an attorney, but would rather GE contact me to discuss what must be done.

My husband ran our 4-year old GE stainless steel dishwasher (PDW8980N00SS) at 9 pm, 2/4/13. At 11 pm, he emptied and put away the dishes. At midnight, we went to bed. At 4:50 am on 2/5/13, we were awakened by a burning smell and discovered the heating element of the dishwasher either turned back on or never turned off. We were unable to touch the granite counter, the front of the dishwasher, and both wooden cabinets on either side of the dishwasher were very warm. The spinning arms and other plastic parts were melted. The only way it could be turned off was to unplug it from the outlet in the cabinet. We were leaving for the airport at 7:30 am on 2/5/13, so needless to say, we would have lost our home if this occurred a couple of hours later.

The Assurant tech said it was repairable and ordered a part, which would take at least a week. Assurant customer service had us call GE. When we stated we didn't want the faulty dishwasher repaired, but wanted a new dishwasher, the best the GE customer service rep could offer us was 38-40% off several new different Profile dishwashers. After reading page after page of bad reviews, most of which detail either one or multiple fires from different GE dishwashers, we don't even want another GE dishwasher in our home. We already needed the smart soap dispenser replaced, since it clogs periodically and doesn't wash dishes very well. We also have a countertop GE Profile microwave, and the turntable motor has gone out 3 times so far.

We've purchased the replacement motors ourselves since it isn't under Assurant insurance. Not sure what the resolution will be on the dishwasher, but we'd be happy if GE would give us at least $500 toward a different brand dishwasher. I know we'll never ever buy another GE appliance after this. We wouldn't sleep at night or ever want to go out of the house without unplugging another GE dishwasher, so don't want one.

About 4 1/2 years ago, when we purchased our new house, we bought all new GE appliances for our kitchen and laundry room. My biggest complaint is with our dishwasher. The top and bottom racks are rusting and most of the prongs have broken off as a result. This should not happen for an appliance that is only about 4 1/2 years old. Their response was that I could purchase both the top and bottom rack. Why would I purchase the same racks only to have it happen again? Clearly this is happening because they used a poor quality steel.

There was a recall not too long ago on our dishwasher and the service tech who came out to fix the recall couldn't believe how badly the racks have rusted. I understand there is no warranty; however, you would think or hope that the racks would last a lot longer than 4 1/2 years. I am very disappointed in the quality and the lack of help regarding this matter.

We bought a brand new GE dishwasher from our local hardware store on Black Friday. It was $600 dishwasher on sale. It was installed on December 5th, it broke on December 6th, and we had a repair man come out to take a look at it. To be fair, the local hardware store did ask if we wanted to replace (2 week wait time) or repair (2 day wait time) it. Since it was a bolt that was severed (by opening the door to the machine, mind you), we figured it would be an easy fix. The first technician who visited said, "Yeah, it's broken. I have to order a new bolt and then come back out in a week to fix it. And oh, by the way, I'll have to drill a new hole for it too." That's when I called GE customer service to request a new product. But since my 48 hour window had passed, and we opted to have it fixed, it was keep it or ask our local hardware store to replace it at their expense. I bit the bullet and just had it repaired.

Now, less than 2 months later, the technician has been at our house three times. He’s soon to have a fourth visit because we need a new dispense modulator. After speaking with customer service several more times, and with a not very nice lady in the Chairman's office, I still have a defective product. Oh, did I mention that I'm paid hourly and have now taken off 13 hours? So what’s the use of that $600 dishwasher that we bought? It's been out of commission for more than 2 weeks, in less than 2 months, and has now cost us $900. Thanks, GE! We’re so glad to see you stand behind your product.

We had a GE dishwasher installed by the builder when the house we live in was built and it was one of the ones which were recalled as a fire hazard. We didn't really have any issues with it though, other than it was a bit noisy. With the credit offered, we decided to upgrade to a high end Profile model. The sound proofing is impressive and it was actually hard to tell the unit was on, but that is the only thing you can say that is good about the machine. As a dishwasher, it fails miserably and often items come out dirtier than when they went in. OK, we've struggled on with that for some time now but today, a nasty burnt plastic smell brought us both to the kitchen to investigate.

Sure enough, the replacement for the fire hazard was the culprit. Obviously, it will need some serious repairs before it is safe to use once more. Looking through this and other sites, it seems this problem is rife and GE is reluctant to deal with the issues. Well I think that will be our last GE appliance. Thank you very much and rather than throw good money after bad, we will put the repair costs towards another machine ABGE.

There was a recall on my fairly new dishwasher. The heater was causing fires. The repairman came and said I had to remove my ceramic tiles in front of the dishwasher for him to pull it out. I called customer service and a Tina offered to reimburse me $200 to have someone remove the tiles and pull the dishwasher out. I paid a handyman $250 in cash to have it done, called GE and they sent a man to fix it. I called again for my $200 and explained their man fixed it. They now wanted a bill from my floor man. I sent the bill and they refused to pay because the bill did not say paid. I called and asked them how their repair person could have fixed it if the floor had not have the tile removed and the dishwasher pulled out for him. I said, "Ask your repair person to verify that the tile was removed." The answer was they couldn't ask him.

I sent the bill again with a note saying paid in cash, a picture of the floor and a picture of me - a 74-year-old woman with a note saying it was impossible for me to have ripped up the ceramic tile and backer board myself. Again, I got a reply that the receipt that I sent was not acceptable and the case was closed.

GE Cafe Series dishwasher model # CDW9380N20SS is a fire hazard. Three days ago, our GE Cafe Series dishwasher nearly caused a fire. If I had not been home that day, it surely would have. I ran the dishwasher as usual and went about my day several hours later. I detected a strange acrid smell and with my five-year-old who was ill and at home that day, discovered the dishwasher door was burning hot to the touch. I needed a potholder to open the door. Once opened, there was a blast of heat and smoke. I needed to use oven mitts to protect my hands from the heat to pull the racks out and handle the dishes. The heating element did not deactivate at the end of the cycle.

If I had not been at home, the house would have been destroyed as all the plastic items on the top rack in the dishwasher melted. In addition the plastic parts of the lower rack, the wheels and their clips; the silverware holder; covers; the clips that hold the pot tins in place were destroyed, to the point that the majority of our silverware was coated with plastic. The plastic on the lower water dispenser has been demolished; it completely melted more than 50% of the plastic covering on the arm and is charred and burned. We are so lucky to still have a home!

The door must be kept open. When the door is closed, the element super heats and presents a major fire hazard. We have noticed that there is a recall for similar models with plastic tubs, but ours has a stainless tub. GE needs to broaden the recall to include all these models. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed immediately. Our GE Cafe Series dishwasher model #CDW9380N20SS was installed on October 1, 2008. I would not be surprised to find that parts from the recall in April 2008 were also used in the Cafe Series. I have discovered in the few days since the DW units malfunction that there are over 1000 complaints listed with similar, even identical complaints, on multiple internet sites with the same problems.

We have had a GE Cafe Series Dishwasher and Stove since 2008 and have never been satisfied with either. The dishwasher, though, has provided an extremely serious and dangerous twist to the usual complaints about not cleaning dishes (which it has never really done very well). Three days ago, the dishes ran a normal cycle with no added heat. My five-year old son called my wife telling her he smelled smoke. When she came to the kitchen, she could barely touch the outside of the dishwasher. It seemed as though the heating element never turned off, which resulted in a complete meltdown inside. The racks, rollers, clips and sprayers were all melted with globs of plastic covering the entire confines of the appliance.

Moreover, all the plastic plates, cups and items that were inside to be cleaned (as best this model every cleaned anything) were completely destroyed. The lower spray was charred as if it was burning and my wife was lucky a spontaneous fire did not start with the sudden influx of air. There are recall issues by GE for the majority of similar lines (Profile, Hotpoint, etc.) with plastic tubs inside as they pose a serious fire hazard. But it is obvious to anyone that the same parts used in the recalled units found their way into the Cafe series as well. With the heat inside the unit climbing over 400 degrees minutes after the door is closed (and yes, we did test it), this is an extremely dangerous situation. And from what I am reading online, GE is not willing to do anything to acknowledge the issue, except send a repairman at your cost to assess the issue.

Further research into the recall indicates that the recalled models had a design flaw, in which the control board inside the main door was not adequately covered or did not have a cover at all. I am curious to learn if the controller in the Cafe Series is the same as the recalled models with the same design flaw. That would explain how the element is receiving electricity when the unit is supposed to be off.

We were super excited to get this GE Profile Cafe dishwasher. Minus the brand, it was the exact design/style as the one my dad has which we love! First issue, don't have a name of a dish liquid if you can't use all of them. Cascade apparently makes different detergent styles for the smart dispense. Dishes were ridiculously dirty and the horrible thing is I couldn't find an answer why on GE's site, I had to go to a handyman site. That was about a month and a half ago.

Today, I did the dishes and, of course, let it do its thing. I always have the heated dry on by the way. Well, dinner came and I grabbed some dishes out which were screaming hot and I had to use an oven mitt. I didn't think anything of it because sometimes I'm a sissy about that. Well, it's now 3 hrs later and I get up to the smell of burning plastic. My first thought was that the sippy cup straw fell on the heating unit. I did not, however, expect to open it and see the Tupperware melting, the silverware rack melting and the water bar to be melting to the heating unit and it being so hot that I have to use an oven mitt just to touch the freaking rack. Oh! And by the way, we bought this off Craigslist last year and it was brand new. It still had the casing around it from the store.

The next day I opened up the front door to see what had been burning and it had holes burnt in front and back of the main circuit box (for lack of better name), one burn mark right where the main wire harness plugs in and burnt right through it. This is the same description many others have written. There is a problem with all of these Profile dishwashers purchased between 2006 and 2009 (ours 2007). GE Cafe Dishwasher Model CDW9380N00SS - The dishwasher is just under 5 years old and is used approximately once daily for lightly soiled dishes, usually only half full since there’s only 2 of us in the house. On 12/28/2012, I ran the dishwasher on a normal cycle, no additional heat or heated drying and the cycle finished about 9pm. I did not open or unload the unit and went to bed. About midnight my wife smelled smoke and woke me up. We ran downstairs to find the dishwasher blazing hot and the smell of burning plastic coming from the dishwasher. I killed the circuit breaker and opened the dishwasher door.

The whole first floor of the house smelled liked burned plastic and we had to open all the windows and doors in 28 degree winter weather to vent the smell. The bottom heating element had come on and stayed on! The entire bottom of the flatware basket was melted out and all the forks, knives and spoons were in the melted plastic goo in the bottom of the dishwasher. The wheels melted off the bottom wash rack and the lower wash arm melted and burned. Also, the plastic screen in the bottom of the dishwasher is twisted and distorted. Some dishwasher safe items like the glass coffee maker carafe with the plastic handle and rim are unusable since the high heat distorted the plastic parts. They were on the top rack.

We feel fortunate that first, my wife smelled it and woke up. Second, the dishwasher tub is stainless steel and so it contained the heat and lastly, that our counter tops are granite since directly above the dishwasher, the counter was hot enough that you could not hold your hand on it comfortably. GE is coming today to evaluate the dishwasher and determine what, if anything, they will do. It is not under warranty, but as I told GE, it’s a safety concern. We don't want it fixed, we want a new one. Nobody expects a 4-5 year old top of the line dishwasher from a company like GE to be a fire hazard in their home. This dishwasher cost over $1,100.00 in 2008.

My questions: why would the heat element come on at all given the settings? Second, why did it come on after the cycle ended and the indicator lights said "clean"? Third, why isn't there a high heat shut off switch that would have killed the power in a circumstance like this? And fourth, since I see other consumers with Cafe Dishwashers have had similar concerns, why isn't there a recall on this model? There are recalls on many other models it seems for heating element malfunctions. I believe that any action other than replacement, even after the warranty period, is irresponsible on the part of GE, but the cost of law suits and settlements maybe less than the cost of replacements or recalls. What of the potential cost of lost lives?

GE wants to charge us $200 for the repairs. But this should be something covered under warranty. Their solution is for us to pay half. I think we will go and begin to look for a new dishwasher and never purchase another GE appliance. If you are in the process of building a house and equipping your home with new appliances, I highly recommend you look for another line and another brand of appliances. Wow, Donna from NJ, I could have written your dishwasher report! But since I didn't, I have never been so disappointed in an appliance purchase as my new GE dishwasher! Not only are some of the dishes & silverware coming out more dirty than they went in, it takes a ridiculously long time for a cycle. And if there are more than a couple of tablespoons of water on the door, it will pee out onto the floor when the door is closed! Not to mention that there is junk stuck to the floor just inside dishwasher, under the door, after the cycle has run!

Yet the worst part is how dirty dishes are after even a Sani Wash cycle! Sometimes, the detergent lid is still closed. Sometimes it's open, but the detergent is still there. Even then, dishes may be cleaner in appearance that time, than when the detergent is gone. A water glass, may have "gritty" stuff - not just detergent stuck and hiding down inside, or more obvious all over inside the glass.

I have spent the past year experimenting with various things: detergents, amounts of detergents, arrangements of dishes, heat of water, pressure of water, rinsing dishes before cycle, etc. Glass and pottery normally fare better than plastics, but again the plastic may have started cleaner than they come out! The dealer has been out three times, finding nothing obvious the DW itself, nor anything I have done wrong. He has been told there is a "kit" that would "fix" the performance problem, but he can't purchase it, nor can his distributor.

I have been told the length of cycle is because our government regulates the amount of water used. So my question is, then it's okay to use more electricity?! It's totally embarrassing to serve someone a drink in a glass that is found not clean near the end of the drink! And I, too, have an old 12-years-dishwasher that still works! It was even a "cheaper" brand. I never had to think where pieces were arranged in that dishwasher. I just thought, in my newly built house, I should have new appliances!

I had a GE dishwasher installed by the builder when I purchased my home. The dishwasher had a fire in the wiring harness for the energy save drying switch. The dishwasher was under warranty and was repaired by GE without issue, and they told me it was safe. About 2 years later, GE recalled the dishwasher for having started numerous fires throughout the country. As part of the recall program, GE offered incentives towards the purchase of a new dishwasher; however, unless you purchased another GE dishwasher, you received virtually nothing. I purchased the top of the line GE Triton performance plus dishwasher and had it professionally installed, and given my previous dishwashers history, I purchased an extended warranty from GE. This new allegedly "top of the line" dishwasher blew a hose and flooded my kitchen, causing several thousand dollars in damage to the floor / sub floor and ceiling below.

GE was contacted, came out, and made a repair; and my damage claim was paid by GE's insurance carrier Electric insurance. Once again, 2 years later, this same dishwasher blew a hose and flooded my kitchen and downstairs. I contacted GE and found that my warranty had been sold by GE to an outside company named Assurant without my knowledge. They were unable to provide me with a service appointment for about 2 weeks and advised me not to touch anything until the damage was documented by a GE technician or my damage claim would be denied. I contacted GE customer service and explained the circumstances and that the water damage would need to be mitigated in order to prevent additional damage to my home.

GE scheduled a sooner appointment, but they failed to show up. I called GE again; they rescheduled for the following day and failed to show again. GE was re-contacted, and they scheduled a third appointment with A&E, a GE affiliated outside repair service. This time, the technician arrived but was unable to do anything unless I made a cash payment to him, as GE failed to include my extended warranty information when they booked my appointment. I re-contacted GE, and the next available appointment date was more than two weeks away.

I was concerned that the water damage would cause mold and create an electrical hazard due to wet wiring, and the water caused the laminate floor and sub floor in my kitchen and downstairs den to warp and buckle. I was forced to contact my homeowners insurance in order to get this damage addressed. GE has been unable to get anyone to my home to address the situation. In total, I have spent about 16 hours on the telephone remaining on hold an average of 1 to 1 1/2 hours for each call, only to be told there was nothing they could do or that no supervisor was available or authorized to do anything. Assurant advised me they would look into it and get back to me, but I have yet to receive a return call. GE corporate headquarters was contacted, and they were polite but unable to accomplish anything either.

I am removing the appliance myself and having it replaced at my own expense with any brand other than GE. I would strongly urge anyone making an appliance purchase to choose another brand; GE's appliances, customer service, and repair service are all unreliable and well below standards based on the hundreds of dollars we spend on appliances. My decision to purchase a GE dishwasher has resulted in damage to my home in excess of $10,000.00 and an unbelievable amount of frustration and aggravation waiting for repair personnel that don't show and waiting on hold to speak to people who can do nothing for you. If I performed this badly at my job, I would have been fired a long time ago. Learn from my situation and don't buy GE!

We have had to repair new appliances, the fridge and the dishwasher. The ice maker doesn't work and the water flows only when it feels like it. We paid good money for the Profile models in the new home. There were four repairs before these mentioned. Now we refuse to fix them any more. We will buy another brand next. We would never recommend this to anyone. It's sad for the company to produce such problem appliances for people. Obviously, they are not interested in repeat business. Now, there is this recall! It is annoying!

I loaded and ran the GE Profile dishwasher in the evening. Later that evening, putrid odor of undetermined origin was noted in the house. I searched throughout house to find the cause, but it was not located. The next morning, the dishwasher was found to be extremely hot on the outer surface (door) and countertop. The heated dry light was on along with the start button, which would not reset or turn off. The unit had to be disconnected by turning the electrical breaker off. All contents were either melted or had a strange brown film, along with broken tines and melted silverware rack in the dishwasher. Even the water dispenser in the bottom of the dishwasher was melted or broken. A GE service representative was called and his report stated: "Unit was left on for too long and heat caused excessive damage to the product. Due to excessive damage, unit is non-repairable." He shared with me he had never seen this much damage done to a dishwasher.

I spoke to GE consumer advocates twice and their solution is to provide me a discounted price on a new appliance and the email address for formal complaints. When I inquired about if there had been resolution to the cause of this problem because I wanted to make a formal complaint, I was told there is not a safety issue with the heating unit. I then spoke to a GE resource person in recall and she shared with me that it is a known issue of overheating and destroying contents, but it has not caused a fire.

Igniting a fire is a justification for a recall - can we not be proactive? This department is working with me and ensured that in newer models this potential hazard does not exist. But other consumers who have purchased in this model (PDW9280N20SS) should be aware of the potential fire hazard. Everything was very hot inside and out. Consequences: the 3-year-old dishwasher (that I use about once per week) was totally ruined and I inhaled potentially toxic fumes for over 8 hours.

I recently had a service tech out to repair my dishwasher. Before I knew it, he was opening the unit and found a tube looking piece stuck in the unit. He was at my house for 15 minutes and the bill was over $250. He should have asked if I was okay with the procedure he was going to perform and the cost before proceeding. To make matters worse, the dishwasher is not cleaning dishes now. I sent a prior email to GE a couple of weeks ago with no response.

I would have never spent this money if I had been given the option and certainly now I have been charged for a repair that actually made my unit worse than before since it is not cleaning the dishes like it did before the repair. I respectfully requested that my money be refunded and/or be given a credit towards the purchase of a GE appliance and have received no response. I tried calling and have been on hold for over 30 minutes now with no one picking up, despite the fact that hold time stated estimated wait time was 5 minutes.

In late March, we placed a service call under GE's one year warranty. The outcome - a gasket repair. Within a week or two, the door began to drip from both the right/left bottom. With having three teens, I figured someone opened the door and released some water. Well, that just wasn't the cause. Shortly over the next few days, the leak was consistent and I placed a service call to GE on 4/19. The customer representative offered, instead of a service call, to order some panels that fit it the bottom of the dishwasher. I stated clearly that our one year warranty was up on 4/25 and if this does not work, would GE address the issue with a service call? Answer was yes.

Within a few weeks, I began to worry when I did not receive the panels. A call to GE was made; however, no documentation was noted of the call made on 4/19. However, GE stated the information might be in parts department, but regardless now, that call was made after one year warranty, extended warranty would fix the issue. Long story short, the extended warranty states problem initiated under GE and GE states the extended warranty is responsible because the call was made outside the one year warranty. I expressed that GE never fulfilled responsibility as GE did not even notify us that panels were not available for our unit.

In the meantime, I am the one out of a working dishwasher. Now I know $539 may not be a lot to invest, but we feel the loss. The frustration and lack of responsibility to correct the repair is just beyond me. GE is responsible. Oh and did I share that lack of communication with GE is horrible? A promised call within 12-24 hours just doesn't happen. Again, I know most would say it's not worth the frustration, but it makes me sad that GE and Assurant Warranty company can get away with what I know is wrong. We've learned from this ordeal. No more GE products in our household.

I bought a whole line of GE Monogram appliances for our home in late 2005. These appliances are not even seven years old and I have had the side-by-side fridge "repaired" several times with no true fix to the problem. They charged me to repair the tank in the fridge that the water line leads out from and into the freezer door. Another repair man said that was never the problem and that the seal on the freezer door is broken from inside the door (a common problem) and freezes up the water line, so no filtered water comes out. They wanted to charge me $800 for a new door with no guarantee that it won’t happen again!

My cook-top downdraft has shorted out three times because of a faulty design issue. Water and moisture can get up under the switch, which shorts it out. There were three different repairs for the same issue. Last time the same service man repaired the problem and he was so careless. He got silicone all over the granite counters and switch, which he didn't check before leaving! I called him back to my house before he even got out of the neighborhood. Ultimately, he admitted he screwed up and ordered me yet another switch. Now, just today, my Monogram dishwasher started billowing black smoke. I called GE to find that the unit has been recalled for electrical shock and fires. They said I could have it repaired (if the service man deems it repairable) or it’s $400 towards a new unit. Is this company for real? How many consumers do they have to lose before they wake up? If I weren't home my house could have burnt to the ground or, worse, one of our kids or us could have been severely hurt or worse.

Do they not realize the liability they would have at that point if the worst would have happened? And they have two phone numbers and my address on file. Why on earth would they not contact me to tell me of the recall? Are they holding their breath and crossing their fingers that nothing too bad will happen? I have a Whirlpool fridge/freezer that is 18 years old and in my garage; nevertheless, it has never given me an ounce of trouble. I will never buy another GE appliance again and will tell anyone I know the same, including the several new home builders I work with. There are too many other companies out there that will back up their quality products. I have called into GE on my latest problems. And if I don't get satisfaction (i.e., brand new units), I have no issues contacting the attorney general. There are forms online that can be downloaded so a formal complaint can be filed. I urge anyone else to do the same.

The tech was here again this morning and called in to tech services and was told "put plates on the right side of the rack only and the dishes will get clean". Are they kidding me? I called the 800 number for customer service and was told by Dominic (rep in customer service) that they would replace the dishwasher and allow me a 40% discount on a new one because this one is working as designed. It is my understanding that the dishwasher should wash dishes, so that tells me it is not working as designed.

I want a new dishwasher, preferably one that washes the dishes and not one that I have to pay an additional 60%. Are you kidding me? This is not right. I have read the reviews on this dishwasher and it seems everyone who purchased the dishwasher I have are having the same problems and it is not working as designed. Please let me know asap when the replacement dishwasher will be delivered. I will not pay an additional 60% for another. It is not right that you would keep making excuses until warranty runs out. My husband came home about an hour after I left to a house filled with smoke and the smell of melted plastic. He opened the dishwasher and found everything inside melted. The spinners, the silverware holder and all the plastic rack dividers were totally melted.

Apparently, the heating element stuck on and overheated it. If he hadn't come home when he did, I believe our home would have caught fire. He said the whole kitchen was much hotter than the rest of the house. The service repair man said it can't be fixed because it got so hot it melted the seals in the motor. It was not a wiring problem with the house. It was a problem with the dishwasher itself. So now, I am out $1400 plus a house full of very toxic smelling smoke.

I purchased the GE Cafe dishwasher in March 2010. Starting in January 2012, some of the keypad options stopped working. Then in April 2012, the keypad stopped working completely and I could no longer get it to turn on. I did call GE for repair. When the repair person was out to fix it, they said that this model has a design flaw. It was originally designed to sit 1" below the countertop so that the heat could release without shorting out the keypad. However, that would require a person to somehow raise their entire counter or fit the dishwasher below the floor somehow.

GE was aware of the problem but decided to ignore the problem. That means that even though my keypad was replaced, the same problem will occur again and again no matter how many times the keypad is replaced. I paid over $1400 for this model, and the labor charges alone cost me $200 for the repair. I think it is absolutely despicable that such a large company has allowed a high-priced, defective product to go out into the market, knowing that a major malfunction will occur out of warranty in such a short period of time.

I am so disgusted that I will never buy another GE appliance, and strangely, I have stock in the company. It's a small amount, but stock nonetheless. What a shame. Now, I have to spend a lot of money on a repair that I should not have to. GE charges $90 just to walk in the door. I was told the second time it would be over $200 to repair a 2 year old machine.

It is not the customer support nor repairmen that I am so angry about, rather, it is the ** machine, which is not even 3 years old! Even more disappointing is the length of time one waits to talk to a customer representative. Whatever they decide to do, I have lost confidence in GE completely and do not want to replace this with another "fire hazard". Bosch, here I come.

Our dishwasher also refused to turn off after it was done washing dishes, usually humming for hours afterward. One day, we came home and found that the whole house smelt of burnt plastic. Our dishwasher was burning hot and full of burnt plastic. It was off, so we unplugged it to make sure it would cool down. We don't expect any help from GE, but we will never buy GE ourselves. In August of 2007, we bought our first GE Profile product, a refrigerator, model no. PFSS6PKWSS. The fridge has had ongoing problems with the ice-maker. We spent $2,264.16 on the new purchase and another $469.02 in repair bills thus far. In August of 2008, we purchased GE Profile gas range with convection oven (PGB918SEMSS), overhead convection microwave (JVM1790SK), dishwasher (PDW9280NSS), clothes washing machine (WPGT9150HMG), and dryer (DPGT650EHMG) for a total of $5,442.58. We have spent an additional $269.87 to replace a defective clothes washing machine. I reached my breaking point on the washing machine after I had to open the lid, reach in, and agitate the clothes myself to prevent items from still being completely dry on the top layer at the end of the cycle.

The dishwasher is just a lemon in every way fathomable. However, it took until recently before I reached my breaking point when I had to super-glue the rubber liner back into place (and that still did not solve the problem). It does not clean dishes. Everything must be scrubbed completely. The control panel changes itself randomly. The machine will hum for more than 24 hours (or until I catch it) after a wash. The smart dispense does not function.

I filed a formal complaint with GE several months ago. I expected them to stand by their products and make this situation right by replacing the dishwasher. Instead, I'm being told it's my fault because I waited 3 years to file a complaint, even though typically a dishwasher should last at least 10 years. And as soon as the rubber lining came off, I did begin the process. I resent being put in the situation of having to file a complaint at all. And even more so, GE is attempting to shift the blame and responsibility to me, as well as insinuating that I am just after a new dishwasher.

My dishwasher no longer goes into a wash cycle (even after unplugging it overnight). I have left it unplugged as I feel it is no longer safe. GE says it is $80 for service plus parts. And they said that if I don't repair it, I get $100 certificate to use online to order another GE. It's not worth it and I am very upset. I replaced all my appliance in 2008 with GE. They sent out a repair person who proceeded to tell me that we were not cleaning our dishes well enough. The person also told me that our water wasn't hot enough, we didn't clean our dishwasher out often enough, etc. After I corrected everything, the repairman suggested our dishwasher still wasn't working properly. So, we called GE back. We have since had two additional repair men out. Neither one has been able to repair the dishwasher. The last repairman replaced a valve he thought might be broken. However, it is still working the same. I am absolutely disgusted with the experience I have had with GE.

Despite this, we still have to re-run loads because they are not clean.

I am convinced that there is a design error with our dishwasher, because the top dish shelf obstructs the door of the soap compartment and prevents it from fully opening. After a load has run, you can still see leftover soap dried and crusted in the soap container. One of the most disgusting situations I have ever been in.

I purchased a brand new home with all new GE appliances. I have since learned that a technician was sent out twice prior to our walk-through because the superintendent noticed the dishwasher wasn't working properly. I registered all my appliances online. The first time I used the dishwasher, it flooded the kitchen floor, causing the builder to have to repair baseboard and drywall. A technician came out and repaired it. I used it an additional two times and each time I did, it flooded my kitchen and a repairman came out.

After the second time, I contacted GE customer care to open a case. The third time, I requested a new dishwasher and the customer care agent, Stephanie, stated that my new dishwasher was a discontinued model and so she suggested one that was a slight upgrade. I agreed to this change and she informed it would take approximately 24 hours to have it approved. I have since talked to seven different people at GE customer care.

This was started when a company called Barlow's Distributing showed up unannounced at my front door approximately hours after my discussion with GE. They said they were here to install my dishwasher. I was rather shocked, said the timing was impressive, and let them in the door. After they had drained the water standing in the then current dishwasher, they started to put in a replacement. I looked at the box and realized they were placing the same model in. I told them that was unacceptable, because according to GE, I was being approved for a different dishwasher. I then told the tech to stop installing it and called GE. GE had no idea where this dishwasher had come from. Then an "unavailable" number showed up on my cell phone and when I answered it, the woman spoke my first name and started talking about my dishwasher, stating the builder had ordered a new one. I asked her who she was twice and she would only tell me GE customer care and not her name. I have since learned her name was Julianna. She said that I had to take this dishwasher or I wouldn't have one at all. I took this as a threat.

After spending countless hours on the phone with GE opening a case and discussing the issues, picking out an acceptable replacement, I was then told the builder made this decision. Not only was I thrown from person to person over a discontinued model, I was threatened, and further was told by the superintendent of construction that once the dishwasher was installed and we closed on the house, I had to handle all problems through GE.

I own the dishwasher, not the builder. I registered the warranty, and I handled it through the proper channels. I feel I need an explicit apology from GE. One of their arms doesn't know what the other arm is doing. During this entire time, I had little use of my right hand and seven fractured vertebrae (for which I am permanently disabled) and had to physically wash 10 boxes of dishes that had been packed up due to our move and stand while doing it. GE has caused me property damage, stress, and severe physical pain, yet threatens me and yanks me from person to person.

This is my house, my dishwasher, and this matter should have been handled directly with me, instead of inviting someone into my house that I had no connection to or knowledge of. The really sad thing is that I just purchased and had installed a $6500 water softener and reverse osmosis system for the whole house, manufactured by guess who...GE.

We bought this dishwasher (Model #GLD4408RBB) at Home Depot. After it was delivered, my husband set it up and it was working fine. After about a month of ownership, water was gushing out the front of the dishwasher. We called Home Depot (place of purchase) as we were still under their warranty for another day. They told us that we should call GE because it was under their warranty and they would have it repaired or replaced. So, we were in touch with GE service department and they sent one of their independent technicians out to repair the unit on October 18, 2010. The technician said it was because the unit wasn't level and proceeded to correct any installation problems.

A few days later, the unit had water gushing out the front again. So, we called GE back and they sent out another repair company on November 8, 2010 to have a look at the unit. This time the technician said that it was because we're not rinsing our dishes well enough so clogging up the catch basket and he charged us $165 because that isn't covered under warranty.

A week later after we've been washing our dishes and before putting them in the "dishwasher", it happened again. This time the flooding was so bad that the water under our floors started draining into our basement. At this point, we called our insurance company who then sent an emergency clean-up team to clean up the flood mess. They did an assessment and there was mold growing up our walls under the floors. Because the damage from the flooding was so bad, they had to tear out our entire kitchen and completely replace the cabinets, flooring, dry wall, etc.

Once they had the floors pulled up, they told us not to use that dishwasher anymore because they didn't want to risk damaging the sub-floor, etc, so we removed the unit and purchased a new one. The dishwasher in dispute is sitting in the garage because we refuse to have it running in our house for obvious reasons.

The best they would offer is to send out yet another technician to hook-up the unit in our house and try to "fix" it again. Again, for obvious reasons, that was not acceptable to us. We cannot afford another $5,000 for another flood. They keep trying to say that it was because we're not rinsing our dishes. They refuse to acknowledge that their unit is the problem and will not take responsibility for their product. We even put a complaint in with the BBB and they were no help at all. We have nowhere else to turn to now.

If a child were to put their finger in there by accident, or someone with small hands, that would be it. Clearly, this is material flaw that needs to be corrected as it is extremely dangerous. My husband and I woke up at 5:30 in the morning last week to find our house filled with toxic, white smoke, originating from the kitchen. We traced it to our 2-1/2 year old GE Cafe stainless steel series dishwasher, model CDW9380N20SS. The tile countertop was burning hot, too hot to touch. We opened the dishwasher to find a molten, melted mess. Everything plastic was melted through the racks. The wheels were melted off of the bottom rack. Thick plastic cups were literally dripping from the top rack to the bottom, and our steak knives were left with no handles. The handles had dripped down into the drain.

When everything cooled, I couldn't get the bottom drawer out because all of the silverware were stuck sticking up at odd angles in mounds of cooled plastic from melted cups and the silverware caddy, which had also melted. Apparently, the heat control had malfunctioned and had stayed on all night. After searching online, I immediately found that this faulty wiring has been an ongoing problem for GE. Although limited to the Profile series, even resulting in a recall of certain models. However, this is the first I had heard of the problem extending to the Cafe series. I phoned GE immediately and though I was prepared for resistance, I met little.

Originally, I was told that my dishwasher was part of a recall so I was forwarded to a higher level of customer service. I was then on hold for only a matter of a minute or two and was connected at once to the representative who would be handling my case. I was surprised at that, to not have been shuffled and transferred around and put on hold numerous times. Unfortunately, the gentleman I spoke with really ticked me off. I thought I was pretty calm about describing the situation, which had happened only 2 hours prior, and could have easily resulted in a fire. While the representative seemed prepared to help, he was nevertheless indifferent about the seriousness of the situation. So I pointed out to him that in addition to our family breathing toxic fumes while we slept, our house could have caught fire from this dishwasher.

He was beyond patronizing when he replied that he doubted that since plastic cannot catch fire until it reaches a temperature exceeding 700F degrees. I told him that I wasn't really concerned about the plastic catching fire, but that there was clearly an electrical malfunction that had caused the heater to stay on and even I, with my peabrain, could figure out that the control board could have ignited. He said that was all speculation, but he would send out a repairman the following week at GE's expense to see if it might be repaired. I laughed at that because it would take an act of God to repair the mess, but knowing that I had to follow protocol, I agreed.

The repairman came yesterday and was very polite and knowledgeable. He, of course, deemed the dishwasher beyond repair and phoned in his diagnosis to GE. After a bit of tug-of-war over the phone with GE (it sounded like they wanted to avoid replacement), the repairman told me that GE agreed to replace the machine with the current Cafe model. Not only was the control board fried, but it had gotten so hot that the heat had fused the insulation to the door and he couldn't even pry it apart after taking out the screws. He was barely able to access the control panel and said this was the first Cafe series he had seen with the problem.

Since yesterday, I have received two phone follow-up phone calls from GE to arrange for the replacement dishwasher. One of the phone calls today was with my case representative and on this call, he was very courteous and helpful. Not a bit of condescension. One of the sticking points for me is that I didn't want a Profile or a Cafe as a replacement due to the electrical malfunctions they have been suffering. He explained to me that the machines that were having problems were built in 2008 and prior, and the problem had long since been corrected. So I agreed and we are supposed to receive the replacement in a few days. Hopefully, the rest will go smoothly. Now what to do about all of my ruined silverware?

More time went by and I called to set another appointment. Since then I had set 4 other appointments which they failed to show up each time. The technician had an excuse to cancel the appointments. I have e mails for all the appointments I have made and cancelled by them.

I called many times in the morning; spending many hours with customer service representatives. In each time I was promised that the technician will show up. I didn't have too much time in the morning, so it is very frustrating to be playing these games. The customer service representatives will calm me down and promise this time the technician will show up. I have a case manager whom I talk with and one time he wasn’t available for me someone else took my call and tried to help. I was told by one of the representatives that one of the technicians had a report that my home had a block from the technicians to come to my home because my home was unsanitary. I asked to pinpoint exactly what they meant by that and had no answer. My home is very clean; this is an insult to me and my family, not to mention all the times we were here waiting for them. They were wasting our time and they didn't even bother to call and advice me of the appointment cancellation. Today, 3/17/2011, was the last straw. I'm so sick of this crap. I still cannot believe that I have been treated this way. I don't want to call them anymore as it is useless. I need help in getting this resolved.

I have a GE Dishwasher Model PDW8200N00WW which is several years old. At the end of a wash cycle, apparently the heating element was stuck on and overheated. It melted some of the plastic dishes, the silverware tray and the plastic cover for the water dispenser. I feel fortunate that I was home or else the house could have burned down. I see that a lot of people have had this same problem. I am surprised that GE has not corrected this problem.

Purchased a GE Profile dishwasher Model No. :PDW9900NWW; Serial No. :VL726731B in 12/2006 ($812.81). On Sunday, 10/10/2010, I did a load of dishes and after the cycle ended, I went to sleep. I woke up to an apartment filled with smoke. Called the fire dept. They pulled out the dishwasher and turned off the circuit breaker. It appeared that the heater from the dishwasher turned itself on and keep cooking all night long until every bit of plastic melted causing the fire. This included some plastic utensils, containers and the racks in the dishwasher itself to melt and burn.

The super had to disconnect the unit as it was hard wired. The windows had to be kept open for a week from the smell. I contacted the GE Hotline at 800-626-2005 and spoke with Renae, who connected me to Consumer Relations at 800-386-1215 and Melissa. I filed a claim no.**. They sent out an inspector who called it "a runaway heater." They are replacing the dishwasher with a comparable model, installing it and taking out the old unit. Damages resulted in a loss of coffee pot, some dishes, silverware, plastic containers; other than the entire dishwasher. We didn't get sick from the toxic smoke. Luckily, we caught it in time before the entire kitchen caught on fire.

Follow-up from my post four nights ago.

I called Mabey/GE Tuesday morning and spoke to a customer service representative. I explained to what occurred over the weekend with my Profile dishwasher (model # PDW9980N20SS). Also, I explained that I did not purchase an extended warranty but I did purchase a $1500 dishwasher that almost set my house on fire. I told her that I would allow her to rectify the problem before I unload on her.

She explained to me that my situation was out of her hands and that she would have a supervisor contact me within 24 hours. I received a call this morning from GE. The gentleman told me that he had to have a service tech check over the unit, but in the interim he said to go to GE Canada's web site and select any Profile dishwasher and they will be sending me a new one.

I was fully prepared for a fight with GE. And I'm a little disappointed it didn't happen. I was prepared to unload on them, especially since I'm just in the midst of ordering 20 sets of appliances from GE for 20 homes I am building. I never even had a chance to play that card. The fight just didn't happen. Reading this forum certainly has helped. I know where the smell was coming from in my kitchen—it was coming from the stagnant water that was sitting in the bottom of my dishwasher that also caused the short in dishwasher on Saturday evening.

I'll keep you posted with the results.

I didn't know where it was coming from. After running around and almost evacuating the house, I found the source. It was our GE Profile dishwasher. The fire department was called and I was shocked to report the dishwasher was never running. The fire guys had high-tech equipment to measure heat and the walls. Now we usually get up at 1 am. The circuit breaker was turned off. If we didn't get up at the time we did, our house would have gone on fire! I'm holding GE liable for this.

After using all GE appliances for 26 yrs in my previous house with minimal problems, my wife insisted on GE when we moved to another house. We bought flat top stove, dishwasher and over-stove microwave. At 14 months the microwave broke. Entire insides had to be replaced. At 32 months, motor went out on dishwasher. At 39 months the front burner on the stove went out frying the on-off switches also.

I sent an email to GE customer relations stating my great disappointment with their product. Two weeks later someone actually called leaving a message to call them back. When I called the agent her attitude was that I should have purchased an extended warranty and should have called GE service for the repairs. When she stated "well, what do you want me to do about it?", I just told her I wanted her to know about the poor quality and hung up.

I then receive an email several days later asking me if I was satisfied with the service I received. I responded to the "team leader" stating my disappointment with the products and the customer service. She responded stating she was sorry I had trouble with my refrigerator but they couldn't give me a concession. I answered that I never requested a concession and I never had a problem with the fridge because it was a Kenmore. Her response was she was sorry but they were unable to extend the warranty on my dishwasher and cover the repair costs but would forward my comments to quality control. It's been like dealing with the Keystone cops. Maybe that's what the try to do so you just give up. My solution, never buy anything with GE associated by name or make.

I complained to GE and they sent a repairman who gave me some citric acid and a temperature tester which proved that the temperature is higher than it needs to be based from GE.

Even though we use the correct products for the automatic dispersers and do everything according to the manufacturing guidelines, we now have a very expensive dish rack where we dry the dishes that we now wash by hand. It's the only way to have the food removed and the glasses not coated with film. The interior shelf keeps collapsing by itself, already breaking 2 dozen eggs. You don't have 2 separate cool settings for the fruits and veggies. Well, it sounds as though I am only adding to the already many complaints about the GE Profile Dishwasher. I have model no. PDW9880N20SS. It is 2 years and 1 month old. Let me start by saying it has been terrible since day one. It has never cleaned the dishes right, it leaves food and spots all over them. I was told to make the water hotter, I did; check the hardness of the water, and I did. Add more rinse aid, I did. Not to mention the thing eats the rinse aid up. I fill it and after one load, on the minimum setting, it's empty again. But now to the real complaint. I came home last night to find my house filled with smoke and a terrible plastic burning smell. Right away I ran to the dishwasher.

It was literally like an oven, burning hot to the touch; counters were too hot to touch. Inside my dishes, the racks, the lower spin arm were all a puddle of melted plastic. The top rack items melted and "rained" down on the lower rack items, those items and the rack were melted into the bottom. When I opened the washer about 6 hours earlier it was not on, the dishes inside were already clean from the previous day. It clearly turned the heating element on by itself and I couldn't get it to stop without unplugging it. I'm terrified to think of what may have happened in the middle of the night, or if I had been at work.

I called GE today and was first told I could pay them $80 to have someone come and "figure out what's wrong". I said absolutely not! It's 2 years old and obviously faulty. It's not like the arm stopped spinning, the thing almost caught fire! Eventually, they agreed to send someone out. I fought and they will be here tomorrow. From what I've seen on here, I'm not optimistic about what the results will be. For a $1200 dishwasher, it's terrible. I'm out the money for all my Tupperware/Pampered Chef (ladies you know how much that can be) not to mention, cups, bowls, etc. And I have to miss work for them to come out. We will see what happens tomorrow, but based on what I have read on here, I have one word for GE, recall!

The heating coil apparently malfunctioned causing the dishwasher to get so hot you weren't able to touch it. Once I opened it, the basket had melted silverware directly into it. The smell from melting plastic is what alerted my daughter that there was something wrong. If she wasn’t home, this would have started a fire in our home.

I had to buy 2 appliances: a dish washer and a stove. June 9, I bought a dishwasher then we went to Florida for 6 months during winter so this dishwasher was not used about 6 months. In May 2009 was the first service call. One day later was the second service call. GE replaced the control panels. Three weeks later, those did not work. Here I am, July 4, weekend and no dish washer. GE did not come for 7 to 8 days. But the company when selling their product can come in 5 minutes. Now my problem is, I would like GE to make this dishwasher good. I do not know why someone in 5 minuets cannot do this and why does some have to drive 1 hour to my house and 1 hour back. I have to replace this and would like the company I bought it from to do it.

It’s not yet the end of story. Shortly after I got the dishwasher, my stove went down and I had to buy a new one. Guess what, they put my new stove in and had to come back the next day. The oven did not work. I had to have a new panel at it. GE appliances in 2009 were not very good. I am waiting to hear about you making this dishwasher right. As I said, my husband and I both are retired and live on a fixed income. If you think buying 2 products in one month apart is easy, you should try it. Well, since April, we have had the dishwasher serviced 5 times with 5 different service people sent by GE. The last people sent out were from SRS appliance services. That was 17th of June, The gentleman's name who came out was Rick. Their phone number is 623 640 6859, and he said he had done everything he could for the unit to clean the dishes. We said we hoped it was now cleaning properly, as we were fed up with having to put the unit on twice to clean some of the dishes. The next morning, we emptied the dishwasher; and out of 8 plates, 6 had to go back in again and out of 10 cups, 8 had to go back in. So nothing had changed.

We phoned Tink who said someone would come out again on Monday in between 8 and 12. I then told her we were fed up of having to wait for people coming and nothing changing. We now need a replacement dishwasher. We were told they would have to send one more person out, and if they said it was unrepairable, then they would replace it.

So the following Monday, we stayed in all morning; but no one came. So I phoned the service center who told us the appointment had been cancelled. We asked who cancelled it, and they did not know. So Tick phoned and said someone from SRS would come out again on Tuesday. SRS phoned to say they were not coming out again, as the unit was unrepairable. And now, GE need to do something about getting it replaced.

We came in to a message from Tink saying they would give us a discount towards a new unit. I phoned straight back to say we did not want a discount; we wanted a new unit. I asked her to speak to someone higher and phone me back the next morning which was Thursday, the 24th. She did not phone, so I phoned her back and she was just leaving. And since then, we have heard nothing. There is no customer service with GE; no one wants to help us. And I have felt as if we are banging our heads against a brick wall.

The technician came to put new drain hose on and the pump in the back of the dishwasher fell off! Again, I am having to wait for parts.

These are three problems I have had and GE's customer service department is telling me I can't get another dishwasher because mine is still "repairable". She also said there is no lemon law on appliances and there should be. I have a very large Island in my kitchen and a lot of the water that came out of the dishwasher went under the island. I can't get to that water to make sure it is all dried up so what's going to happen later on with the issues of mold and mildew. It's just wrong for me to have to keep this appliance in my house after having so much trouble. GE should be happy to replace such a defective appliance. The consumer should not have to go through this many trials with a "new" appliance. If I had purchased used, I would expect this but I purchased new and it has been nothing but trouble! I want a call from a GE representative not an attorney. I want them to explain to me how they can do this to a consumer.

We purchased a brand new GE Profile dishwasher from Lowe's in December, 2006. It is now March, 2010. Other than the first few months, the dishwasher just doesn't seem to get our dishes clean anymore. There is always a white film left behind, along with lots of particles and bits of dried food left on the dishes, even on the longest cycle, and switching to different detergents. This even happens to dishes that are placed correctly, pre-rinsed, and stacked to obtain the most water thrust. It just doesn't seem to drain well.

Very often, there is water in the bottom, after a complete cycle. We have had different repairman out four times to check it, and the problem seems to be that the pump just doesn't pump out the used water very well. It's also noisy and rattles. This should not happen to a dishwasher, after only three years, do you think? I will never, ever buy another GE dishwasher again, even though, I had a great one that was purchased way back in 1987. I am so frustrated and dissatisfied!

We installed a GE dishwasher, model no. GDWT160R05SS in December 2009. The design of the top rack resulted in the breakage of glassware. The design of the racks are particular only to GE dishwashers and no other manufactured dishwashers. In a period of 3 months, at least 5 -6 everyday glassware broke or cracked. I have never experienced that amount of breakage in a dishwasher ever before. The dishwasher did not clean that well either, as food would sometimes be found dried onto the dishes after a complete wash cycle.

GE sent out a technician twice and established that there were no parts to be replaced. Sears also sent out a technician. GE agreed to replace the dishwasher with another model with us paying the difference in an upgrade. Unfortunately, the upgrade models all had the same type of rack on top. Sears agreed to exchange the dishwasher for a Kenmore product with us paying the difference in price. GE would not cover the additional cost of installation. We now have to remove the dishwasher and install the new dishwasher at our expense. I would not recommend the purchase of a GE dishwasher.

On or about 1/27/2010, we came home during the middle of the day to a home filled with light smoke and a burning smell. According to our meat thermometer, the tile counter top above the dishwasher was 200 degrees. The dishwasher had turned the heating element on and melted the contents inside the dishwasher. In addition, it warped the counter on the kitchen island that housed the appliance.

GE has offered to replace the dishwasher and the affected counter top; however, they are only going to compensate us for the "depreciated value" of the damaged areas. Both their adjuster and our contractor agree that we have incurred approximately $14,000 of damage, but GE only wants to give us the depreciated value of $12,000. Therefore, I must pay the $2,000 difference to have my house brought back to the level that it was before their appliance damaged it.

Through no fault of my own, our house was damaged. I should not have to pay anything to bring it back to pre-damage condition. They don't agree. Please provide guidance.

I did a complete kitchen renovation with all GE Monogram dishwasher, fridge, Advantium oven, convection oven and 36" cooktop. I have had GE repair service twice for the dishwasher. Firstly, it was for the white film on dishes and the entire interior of stainless steel dishwasher. Secondly and lastly, the "motherboard was all lit-up and couldn't be cleared or operated and a humming noise comes from interior even when nothing is lit-up and I cannot close door or this persists. The repairman took it out of cabinet area, checked under the sink, put it back, didn't secure kick-plate and said it was the pump which would cost $200 and that probably everything else that would happen would cost the same and advised I buy a new dishwasher. My dishwasher is like new.

My kids make fun of me because I wash the dishes before I put them in. It is only run at most twice a week. This was an expensive item and I expect it to last longer. Also, I had wood cabinet fronts put on fridge and the dishwasher to match my new cabinets. Replacement will entail big money.

A week later, my Advantium oven was working perfectly then just blanked out. The repairman is coming today. It seems to me that GE has these things programmed to last x amount of years and then they are dispensable. The repair made on Advantium oven was a fuse. So far, beside the initial cost of the dishwasher, it has cost me $145.58 for the white film issue and $101 for the second issue. The Advantium oven repair was at a cost of $215.85 (for a fuse?). IT's ridiculous! I will never buy GE products again.

As part of a full kitchen remodel we purchased GE Profile refrigerator, oven, microwave, and dishwasher. All were installed in May 2007. Since then, our GE Profile Dishwasher model PDW9980LOOSS has been trouble. On one occasion the heating element remained on, but at least we were fortunate to notice the hot granite countertop and heat radiating from the door before we had a meltdown or house fire. But now we must remain paranoid about using the dishwasher and make sure we are available to double-check its shutdown. Also, we are now purchasing the fifth (yes, 5th!) keypad for the dishwasher in 2 1/2 years at about $75/keypad! After use of about 4-5 times a week, the keypad push buttons fail and we have no ability to select the desired dishwashing settings.

This is on an appliance that sold for well over $1000. And we get no satisfaction from GE customer service. It is just a front for GE that files all complaints in the circular file! How do we, as individual consumers, unite and get GE's attention? Just read the long list of complaints on GE Profile dishwashers listed on this forum, and even more all over blogs and chats on the internet. I've had it with GE! Yesterday evening, we ran our GE Monogram Model# ZBD0710N20SS dishwasher. When it signaled that it was finished by both audible signal and clean light, we allowed the dishwasher to cool before emptying it. We left the house and when we returned 2-1/2 hours later, the house was full of smoke and we could smell burning plastic. It was obvious that the smell and smoke was coming from the dishwasher. When we opened the door, we could see that the heating element was red hot and anything plastic including the utensil racks and lower spray arm were melted. Opening the door turned off the heating element and the machine slowly cooled down.

Before going to bed, I made sure no light on the control panel was lit and then closed the door since the interior still smelled. The heating element turned on again. This machine was put into service in August of 2008 and so we are disappointed that we would have any problem with the machine so new. In addition, I expect that there should be some sort of fail-safe thermal protection or fuse that would turn off the heating element in the case of a runaway situation such as this. Our home now smells of smoke. We have the exhaust fans on but until the dishwasher is fully repaired or replaced, at least, the kitchen will continue to smell. There may be latent damage to this machine that will not be seen as a result of the high temperature exposure. This sets up the machine for additional reliability problems in the future.

I am also very concerned that whatever the problem is, it will happen again. The next time, it may result in a house fire with much greater losses. The fact that this machine was not designed with adequate thermal protection is of particular concern. The most likely culprit is the electronic control module. Assuming that this is the case and without a backup fail-safe independent of the electronic control module, this problem can easily happen on this unit and any other GE dishwasher with similar design. In looking at your website, this appears to be a common problem with these dishwashers.

The countertops were too hot to touch. This never happened again but was scary. Second, the liquid dishwasher soap leaked out of the dispenser all over the floor. The SmartDispense technology worked but it leaked the soap all over the floor. At times, it was little globs of soap. At times, it was more than a cup of soap, and other times, there was no soap. There was no reason, like if the soap had recently been filled. Third and finally, the bottom left corner hinge broke, causing the door not to close properly.

We were still under the one-year service warranty when we called for service. The repairman stated he had never seen a door off the hinge and blamed my infant son for standing, holding onto the edge of the open door for causing it to break. This unit is defective, a fire hazard, and what will it take for a company like GE to do something like, I don't know, recall them (like they did for the ones in 2001)? I'll tell you. They need to be sued because someone is going to die in a fire because of these problems. The unit I had was put out in the garbage today - I'll be buying foreign products from now on.

Less than two years ago, I bought all-new GE appliances; i.e., stove top, dishwasher, oven, refrigerator, etc. Within a few months, my stove top went out. My ice maker went out shortly after that. With another six months, my dishwasher caught on fire and the fire marshal had to come over. Just today, the second cook top I got from GE caught on fire while I was cooking. It just started clicking and then sparked. Then fire came out of the stove top! It's very scary. I am glad my children were not home alone! These products are defective and dangerous. GE doesn't care. I have learned to live with the problems until today when my stove top caught on fire! This is too dangerous for my family. It is not fair I spent $10,000 on appliances that are defective! Please help.

We bought all new appliances in July of 2009. It is now the end of September and we still do not have a working GE dishwasher. It does not clean the dishes. Many times the entire process only runs 5 minutes. Other times it just says H1 and will not run at all. We have had them out many times and it still is not fixed. My wife is now back in school and cannot get home until mid-afternoon. They will not work with your schedule. They tell us to call in and request a service call weekly. If no one is home, just call back the next week.

At times, two people had showed up in the same day saying the other repairman was the incorrect person. It is a complete nightmare. We purchased it from Grants. They have finally offered to sell us a better model if we pick up the additional charge. I was fine with that until they told me they were going to charge me another $125 to install the new one. All this and we have never had a working dishwasher. I wish I had read some of these sites prior to purchases. I will never buy another GE appliance and would advise others to do the same. Their customer care unit is a joke and have plenty of time to hold as well. The customer care blames the servicemen and the service guys blame the customer care. All I can say is buyer beware.

I purchased my service contract back in 2001. The appliance store I bought my appliances at, used to do the service calls with no problem, but unfortunately now GE has their own technicians and it has been a real nightmare. My dishwasher broke and when I called GE, they sent a repair guy out between 8-5pm one week later. When the guy comes, he has to order a part and says it will be another week and they will be back between 8-5pm (there goes another day of work). Then after he leaves, the dishwasher is still not working and again they have to come back.

Another week goes by and again another day of work because they can't give you a specific time. They need another part so it’s another week and again another day of work and there is not a damn thing anyone can do to help you. It's been almost five weeks, my dishwasher still doesn't work. Meanwhile, I keep telling the Osments repair guy is available and willing to come early so that I don't have to miss work and they say they can't do that. Why? They've always repaired my appliances before with no delay. I am still left without understanding why I can't get my dishwasher fixed, it's been a real ordeal. I have missed almost a week of work and still have a dishwasher that doesn't work. What do I need to do to get quick service, like I use to with Osments?

I have a GE Profile dishwasher that is approximately 4 years old. It has caused nothing but trouble. The model number is PDW9900N00BB. It overheats and makes my counter tops too hot to touch. The circuit board has seized up and won't allow me to change my washing options. I can't use the drying function, because it gets too hot. The dishwasher will not turn off after washing dishes and has melted many of my dishes. It also runs up unnecessary electric bills. I worry I will wake up with my house on fire!

GE Profile dishwasher model #PDW7380J15SS bought in 2007. When the dishwasher has completed all cycles, the heating element stays on and gets so hot that the granite counter above the unit is too hot to touch. Luckily, we noticed it before a fire started. Every time you close and latch the dishwasher door, the heating element comes on and obviously gets super hot, to the point now where we have unplugged the dishwasher for fear that our children will close the door and a fire will result. We contacted GE and they disregarded safety concern and told me to make a service appointment. I am concerned that those who don't catch the issue in time will be in danger of house fire. This is a huge safety issue!

I started the dish washer and went to bed. I could hear something snapping and other stuff. Then I smelled something, so I got up and was looking around and oh my, the dishwasher was really on fire. I opened the door and there where flames. I just couldn't believe it. I couldn't get the fire to go out. I always start it and go to work, but not this time. Anyway, it must have took me 10 or 15 minutes to get it out, not cool. I could have lost everything - my pictures and the important things. It started on the door. It had to start for the wires. I took pictures for you. It damaged the outside of the door and the inside mostly.

The other night, we started our GE Profile dishwasher and went to bed and woke up to a burning smell. We went down and found that the heating element had run all night and melted most of our plastic cups and all of the plastic wheels. We are very upset and do not use the heating option anymore. Now our dishes come out still wet and hardly clean at all. We are very disappointed.

GE Profile Dishwasher PWD9280N20SS heating element did not turn off which could have caused a fire. Granite counter top was too hot to touch. I have read similar complaints about various Profile models w/ the same problem. Most of the internal parts, trays, utensil holders, etc. were melted. I fought GE to get the unit replaced/repaired as it was one month out of warranty. They finally chose to repair, including a new circuit/logic board. However, I still do not trust this unit and will not run it while we are away or asleep.

Last April, the heating element on our GE Profile PDW9700 dishwasher did not turn off. The excessive heat caused the plastic racks inside to melt, and start to burn as the melting plastic dripped on the element. This also ruined the dishes in the washer. The custom wood paneling on the outside also had to be replaced as the heat caused the screws to come out. This washer was about 17 months old and we use it 5-6 times per week. After this initial problem, we had another issue with the control board, and it had to be replaced again.

I don't trust this appliance. We no longer run it if we know we will be out of the house after we turn it on. GE has proven difficult to work with. Initially, they agreed to refund the labor, but refuse to acknowledge there is a basic flaw with their product that can burn down a house. I fully endorse any action taken as there seems to be a large number of similar complaints.

This is an update to my July 27, 2009 posting. GE has provided a new comparable replacement to our dishwasher - delivered today. We are still concerned that this is an issue that will replicate itself on the replacement dishwasher or the one my mother purchased in the last six months. If the control panel in this model is faulty, GE should update and recall. The tech indicated that failure of the control panel is not common, so we will trust it will not happen again.

In 2007, I did a whole kitchen makeover and purchased all GE profile appliances. I am the only person in my household, so I seldom use my dishwasher. My family was recently over for dinner, so I loaded the dishwasher. I smelled something burning. My son immediately opened the door and noticed the heating coil was burning hot. The bottom of the dishwasher surrounding the coil was all cracked from the severe heat. The model number is PDW7380J10SS and the serial number is MLB28488B. I went online to see if there were any recalls, and to my surprise, this problem has been an occurrence on many models over a long period of time. How can I get this problem resolved? I don't feel it should be my responsibility to pay for this.

Our 1-1/2 year old Cafe Series dishwasher overheated in the dry cycle and melted the wheels off the bottom basket. It also melted several plastic containers on the top basket. We haven't decided if we are going to repair or replace. We don't have a lot of confidence in GE.

We have owned our GE Profile stainless steel dishwasher for only 1 1/2 years. And there are only 2 of us in the house so it is not run more than two times each week. We ran the dishwasher over night and woke up to find heating element ran long after the end of the cycle and was still hot. The granite counter top was hot enough to burn our hands and the dish racks, spin arm and bottom of the dish drain cover had melted as a result of the defective heating element. I feel strongly that had we had a standard counter top with the wood base, the house would have caught on fire.

This unit retails for $1,400.00 and could have cost us our lives! The first call with GE does not sound promising that they will stand behind the product. The dishwasher is completely ruined! And our trust in the GE profile line has diminished (unfortunately, we have equipped two kitchens in the past year with this line).
