Frigidaire refrigerator model #FRT18PRHWWH caught fire. Thankfully, a planned weekend trip was cancelled and we were at home to catch it before any damage or injury occurred. Smoke damage.

I had originally posted about a compressor on my fridge that went out less than two weeks beyond warranty. I emailed Chris **, who took several days to answer. His answer was it was a 2005 model, it was covered under warranty. It was obvious that he did not read my email as I explained it was 2 weeks out of warranty. I wrote back again telling him it was out of warranty, but I never heard from him again. In the meantime, I called customer service and they offered to pay for the part. Unfortunately, the repair place charged me an additional $50 or so more than the estimate because I didn't buy the part myself. The labor carries a 30 day warranty and the part 90 days.

5 years and a couple of weeks after I purchased my latest Frigidaire appliances, my beloved side-by-side refrigerator started to warm the fresh food side. I called and had an authorized repair company come out, who gave me the bad news that I have a bad compressor. This is the 3rd set of Frigidaire appliances I have purchased, and the first problem I have ever had with one of them. The repair bill will be $457. I am so hoping and praying Frigidaire will help me with the cost of this repair as I cannot afford to replace it now. I will try to update this if I get a favorable outcome from this.

We purchased a Frigidaire refrigerator (model FRS23F4D) short of 5 years ago. The compressor went. It was replaced under warranty. The technician placed all components, and the refrigerator cannot be fixed. They are offering us 30% off of another Electrolux unit. Why would we buy another, when they can't stand behind their product? This is a lemon. The unit has to be thrown out.

My seven-year old Frigidaire side-by-side has its compressor dying. Many have expressed complaints about this defective product but Frigidaire does not care (warranty expired, so you are on your own). When a top-of-the-line fridge has a compressor dying, it means that it was a defective product and the company should stand behind it. I am fighting to get the repair done under warranty but customer service declined. They offered 20% to purchase a new fridge: I am not going to buy another defective product, despite the discount--thanks! What an expensive repair. I hope to find a more reasonable customer service rep.

I bought a Frigidaire side by side on 7/3/ 09. It is almost eight months old now and I have replaced the refrigerator door bins three times so far. The holding piece just breaks off and the items fall to the floor. My spouse said I must be in a hurry. Well, perhaps sometimes but 3x in less than eight months--and all for the same problem? The bins contained anyone's typical bin items: salad dressing, pickles, relish, olives, mayo, marinades and jelly. Thank the Lord I didn't try and put 2 gallon milk containers in them as was suggested by the manufacturer! Also, thank him for my taking out the warranty through Lowe's that my spouse said was only a waste of money because warranties are never used.
Well, so far, I have already paid for my extended four-year warranty by ordering 3 replacement parts. Now, two days ago, I opened the fridge door and the light blinked off. No big deal, I thought. I'll just replace the bulb. What I saw next absolutely put me in shock! The light bulb was stuck into the top of the fridge because it had melted itself through the fiberglass and was imbedded into the roof of the fridge!
When I pried it out, lo and behold, there was a nice fat hole now in the top of my almost eight-month old fridge that cost $1,000! I freaked out and called the repair man. This time, not for parts but for an honest to goodness repair job. After tomorrow, I'll see what he has to say and I'll write back. Oh, one more thing. What happened to the little piece of deflector metal that most manufacturers put above the light bulb to deflect/defer the heat from the bulb? I guess Frigidaire didn't want to spend the $.50 for that little 3"X3" piece of metal.

I am completely outraged! My refrigerator is not even eight months old and it doesn't work. American Home Appliance is the worst service company. I have been without a refrigerator for a month now and I have three small children in the house. At least, it's winter time for me to keep my food in coolers on my porch. How awful is that? I can't get anyone to help me. I have this manager, John, telling me that for two days the system has been down and he can't bring my account up. I also have him telling me that he doesn't report to anyone and I've been on hold with him for 20 minutes. He claims he is trying to get in touch with someone from Corporate because all of a sudden I'm stupid now.
He told me on 2/16 to give him 24 hours to work on my account and he would call me. It's now 2/18 and I had to call him. What kind of service is this? My fridge has had the compressor replaced and a hole fixed where the freon comes out. Come on! I need o hear back from someone asap. I'm about to flip out even more. I've tried every approach possible and this is the last one I have. Maybe if I blog and write over and over, someone will hear me. I have children in my house! It's not like this is a dishwasher. I would be able to hand wash my plates. This is a refrigerator. Come on! I understand there are policies but I'm not receiving any help.

Refrigerator had problems from the day we bought it: Door clunking on hinge, water dispenser freezing up, shelves falling inside the freezer, items in the refrigerator going rotten in some areas but freezing in others, extremely loud and struggling motor. Under warranty, a repairman was sent out to install spacers in freezer, changed the freezer door to a new one with an 'insulated' line, changed refrigerator door hinge and said that "Frigidaires are just loud like that" about the motor. These repairs lasted for just a few months until the unit was off of warranty. The water line isn't freezing, but it's warm. Shelves in freezer are still falling/not staying on in their grooves. The door is clunking but not at 70% open, now it is at 25% open (afraid its going to fall off at any time). Food items still rotting and freezing, motor still sounding terrible.
I contacted Frigidaire again and they asked for more information. After giving them the information, they never responded. That was 6 months ago. I have sent several more emails and I'm being ignored. Besides not having a product that works as it should (keeping food fresh and dispensing cool water), the cost of throwing away bad food every week is ridiculous. I fear everyday that I will come home to find the unit to have given out completely and leaked to ruin my hardwood floors. I fear the door will fall off on one of my children. This needs to be addressed before irreparable damage is done.

On September 2005, we purchased a Frigidaire side-by-side refrigerator with ice and water dispensers in the door. Lately, I noticed rust developing below the dispenser opening, under the painted door surface. I called both the 1-800 number shown in the owner’s manual and another number given by the overseas customer service person but to no avail. They claim that the problem is not a warrantable issue. I join with others in recommending say not to Frigidaire appliances. I would consider participation in a class action.

The refrigerator broke down within the 1st 2 months of service. I also called about multiple noises the fridge was making. They answered with a page-long list of normal noises. What a croc. The fridge failed before Christmas, and I lost Christmas dinner plus a full fridge of food. They said sorry.
I had to go through Christmas without a fridge and food I had to throw out. I could have overnighted the parts to relieve days without fridge, but they refused. My service tech said it's a matter of time before it happens again. So I'm stuck with a fridge that is a piece of junk, and I'm out almost $2000.

Let me start by saying this is the first time I have ever written a complaint or negative review on any product that I've purchased. On 12/28/09 I woke up to find a puddle of water in the floor in front of my refrigerator. I discovered everything in the freezer was melting/thawing. I had an appliance service technician out to my home on 12/29 and after looking over the refrigerator, he determined there was a freon leak and that it was running out of freon. The refrigerator side is warm now too. He also stated that he thought Frigidaire covered sealed components for up to 5 years. I asked him if there was anything that I had done to have caused this and he stated that it was nothing I could have done to cause the issue and that it was from the manufacturing being of poor quality.
I then contacted Frigidaire and they stated the sealed components were not covered, that they only cover sealed components for the 5 year period for models built in 2005 or prior. I then asked to speak to a supervisor and she stated that I would have to wait for them to call me back and that I would get a call back the next day. I have yet to receive a call back.
At this point we've decided to cut our losses and have purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator. Overall I'm very disappointed with Frigidaire and their unwillingness to stand behind their product. I paid $800 for a refrigerator that only lasted 3 years due to the poor workmanship of Frigidaire. I have sent my written complaint to the company but seriously doubt I will receive a response. How any company can escape responsibility for factory defects and workmanship on any item that they manufacture is beyond me.

Our Frigidaire refrigerator model #FRS26KR4DQ2 (actually made by Electolux Home Products according to product label) was manufactured and purchased in August 2004. Three years later, we began to notice rust formation beneath the freezer door skin panel under the water dispenser. The rust is continuing to get worse. Other owners of same or similar refrigerators are reporting the same problem. Calls to Frigidaire were fruitless as they do not care that their product is not lasting and declare that the problem is only cosmetic. Cosmetic or not, no one would purchase a refrigerator that needed to be replaced in five years.
Frigidaire refuses to accept responsibility for their product and says the one year warranty has expired. Imagine that? They knew the doors wouldn't rust out for at least a year, so they don't have to worry about the replacement. Checking online, I found that I can purchase a replacement door for $258.51. But why would I want to buy anything to help the bottom line of this company? I'd rather purchase a competitor's product than extend the life of Frigidaire's poorly manufactured appliances. I hope someone can force Frigidaire or Electolux Home Products to recall and replace the faulty freezer door panels.

I purchased a Frigidaire side-by-side refrigerator in 2006. Total waste of money. The ice maker quit working 6 months in. It took 2 repairmen to finally get it working. Frigidaire did not want to honor the warranty. Never did. So far 3 shelves have broken and the top crisper drawer has broken off of supports. Total piece of expensive crap. We have no children at home, are middle aged and do not abuse or treat our appliances rough. I was told by Frigidaire that for each problem encountered, it was not a warranty issue. We had even bought extended warranty.
Lowe's was contacted as that is where we purchased it from. Apparently, once it's out their door, their responsibility stops. The plastic mayonnaise jar fell out and broke the bottom piece of the interior! Plastic jar! These are just some of the problems. I will never purchase another Frigidaire product. Never. They are cheap and customer service or care is non-existent. This was an expensive mistake. My 21-year-old Kenmore refrigerator that this one replaced was still 10x better. I wish I had it back.

On 11-24-09, we bought a Frigidaire Gallery 26 cubic ft side-by-side (LGHS2665KF1) refrigerator at the local Lowe's Home Improvement Center. It was delivered and set up on 11-25-09. Approximately 21 hours later, the fridge alarm sounded and the door temperature display indicated code SY CE. The unit was not cooling and the inside lighting was off. The only usable information in the documentation was to call Frigidaire service. This was Thanksgiving Day so we knew our plans for family dinner were in trouble. I called the 800 number and reached a female, who spoke perhaps five or ten words of understandable English. She finally provided a number for a repair shop in our part of Iowa and once dialed, I learned the service was closed until the following week.
My wife contacted Lowe's early on 11-27-09 (Black Friday) and they agreed to send a replacement fridge within a few hours - and they did! However, this new Frigidaire operated for about 39 hours until the cooling alarm sounded at 3AM, Sunday (11-29-09). The second refrigerator was also displaying the dreaded SY CE code and cooling and lighting had stopped. I should say (even with first fridge), I cycled power to the unit several times and tried any number of combinations on the door control pad with no success. I also verified the level and frequency of voltage at the outlet were as specified.
I was standing on Lowe's doorstep as they opened at 7AM, Sunday 11-29-09. I explained the history of the last two Frigidaire units including loss of food, sleep and sanity. The Lowe's associate guided me to all in-stock fridges and indicated I could choose a higher priced unit at their expense. I soon settled on a Samsung, which was listed at $500 higher than the Frigidaire. They delivered the new unit on 11-30-09 and it has worked to perfection since then. Yes, I know it's only been a week but in fridge years, it feels like so much longer.

I bought and moved into a brand-new loft-style condo in 09/2003, and it came with all-new, very expensive Frigidaire appliances. The purchase price included a total of $12,000 just for the stove, dishwasher, and refrigerator. Within the first 6 months, I saw emails passed on by my new neighbors regarding their refrigerators going out and needing new compressors. Mine went out in June 2008, 3 months before the warranty was going to expire. I tried contacting the warranty number, and all I got was 2 weeks of being routed to South America, the Philippines, and India with no answer from anyone. I finally got a representative that answered my call in the Philippines to transfer me to a representative located in Dallas, Texas. After I plead with her and telling her my whole nightmare with the routed calls, she authorized the compressor and all the other parts needed to repair the entire refrigerator.
Now it is only 15 months later, and the compressor is going out again! I called the repair company that replaced the compressor and other parts last June 2008, and I was informed the parts are only under warranty for 30 days. The repair company gave me the 1-800 to contact Frigidaire directly, but the only persons they speak to are repair companies. I am at a loss! I just bought $350 worth of groceries, and I now know the signs of my refrigerator going out. And all I can do now is do a waiting game. Growing up, my family only had Kenmore appliances; and they all lasted 18 to 20 years without needing a single repair. Do not buy Frigidaire. Stick with Kenmore, the company that makes reliable appliances.

I bought my Frigidaire gallery refrigerator from Bernie’s in Newington, CT in 2005. When we purchased it, we also purchased the extended warranty. The salesman from Bernie’s told us everything will be covered by this contract, meaning shelving, draws. He told us bumper to bumper. Well after purchasing it, the thermostat went crazy and we kept getting sour milk within a day of purchase. Then I called about the bottom draws and shelf (it was cracked). The gentleman came out and looked at it and told me it's not covered because it's not a function of the fridge. It's cosmetic. Well while he was here, I also mentioned that the fridge was running hard and long. There was and still is a gap on the freezer part where the door closes. He said it needed to be leveled but didn’t' even look at it at all. Well, when my husband got home, we checked and the fridge was perfectly level. Now I have tape running across the top of the seal. I called again and never heard from them again.
Well now that it's four years old and every shelf is cracked, I can't use the bottom draws or shelf because the shelf is in pieces. I mean what are you only supposed to put, one jar of mayo on a shelf? OMG, come on people. OMG I also have to mention on this model of fridge GD-21, the handles to open the door, I have hit my head on the points of the handles like six times and twice it drew blood, the design is awful. This is our second Frigidaire fridge and no more will I buy this brand again. They seem to last only four years then you have to get a new one even though you still have the service contract on it. The fridge runs constantly and uses too much electricity. Our electric bill rose to like $80.00 since we got it. We can't use the storage draws or shelf on the bottom, it's a total loss. We're trying to glue it but it probably won't work.

I purchased a brand-new Frigidaire refrigerator (model PLHT219SCB9) in June of 2006, and the compressor failed on July 29, 2009 after only three years of service. I spoke to their customer service center, and they offered me a parts concession. But I was told I would need to pay the labor for installation. I was also referred by them to local authorized repair shop to diagnose the problem and make the necessary repairs.
The service company came out and confirmed that the compressor had indeed failed and quoted me a labor cost of $318 for the installation. I was frankly shocked at the amount and was also told they would need to order the compressor and it would probably be a week before they could make repairs. I also had to throw away all the contents of the refrigerator and freezer, which was very costly to replace. Lastly, I had to stay home from work for the service call, which was a major inconvenience.
I e-mailed Frigidaire customer service and asked if they would help on the installation labor based on the age of the refrigerator, the lost groceries, and missing work. Unfortunately, they refused. I also found out the replacement compressor is only warranted for 90 days and the labor for 30. It sounds like I could be in for more trouble. And this will absolutely be my last Frigidaire refrigerator.

I just ended a call with someone at corporate, who may have apologized profusely, but didn't resolve my problem in the end. After speaking with yet another deeply accented customer service representative who had a hard time understanding English at times, I was told I would not receive full reimbursement for the refrigerator that I had to rent while my brand new Frigidaire refrigerator (that I'd only purchased less than six months prior) stopped cooling. It was bad enough to have most of my food go bad and deal with the inconveniences brought on by having to rent a large kitchen appliance and have it delivered and picked up, but then I received a reimbursement check in the mail over the weekend wherein my name was misspelled and the amount was wrong.
So, fast forward to a few minutes ago, when I spoke with this customer service representative. She advised me the reason my check was a couple of dollars short was because they only reimburse actual rental charges, not taxes. My position is, that should not make a difference because I spent real money that went to a real rental company for its services that I needed while Frigidaire's own unit stopped working, therefore putting me in a bind. So, after learning this part of the reimbursement policy for the first time, I asked the representative to talk to someone to file a complaint over the phone.
After much hesitation, she placed me on hold for a few minutes while she tried contacting someone at corporate. She returned to me, however, to let me know she had already "assisted" me and couldn't get a hold of anyone at corporate. So, I asked her again about being reimbursed in full to no avail. I then again requested to speak with someone at corporate, to which she responded in total silence. I asked her if she was still on the line with me. She responded to let me know she was still there but then went completely silent again. After a few seconds, I told her I was still waiting for her to respond to my request to speak with someone at corporate. Then and only then, did she place me on hold (again) and come back with someone at corporate.
This person at corporate further advised me the reason my check was a couple of dollars short was because they only reimburse actual rental charges, not taxes, because taxes are what each individual state charges and therefore not fees that rental companies actually pocket. And, all of this was after I had been told by a previous representative my rental allowance would be almost double than what I ended up spending even after taxes were tacked on. The couple of dollars in taxes won't break me, obviously, but it's the situation as a whole, from the reps who had difficulty understanding English to the fact that the new refrigerator broke down in the first place.
I advised the lady at corporate I would not be purchasing another Frigidaire in the future and did not appreciate receiving the poor customer service. Again, she apologized and said she would make a notation to better train their phone reps about making the reimbursement policy clearer to consumers. But, as for full reimbursement, no dice.
I am curious. Is their position concerning not reimbursing customers for taxes that they've paid (such as in my case) even legal?

We have also had to replace the water filter housing/assembly twice (yep, two time!) because it has cracked. It is made of plastic! In my opinion, there are serious design flaws in this refrigerator (model FRS26R4CW0). The freezer air blows down on the water filter and causes it to crack. Moving the filter or placing it inside a guard or deflector would stop this costly repair altogether. The last quote for this repair was well over $300. Over the last five years, we have paid for this refrigerator twice - once at the store, the second time in repairs. No more for me!

My wife and I purchased this Frigidaire refrigerator in 1999. The model number MRT18GRGWO manufactured 01-98. We just finished having a wood floor installed in our kitchen and started to move the above item into place. Much to our dismay, it scratched the floor leaving 6.5-inch long, deep scratch about 3.25 inches wide in our new floor. After saying a few choice words, we had our grandson tilt the thing backwards just enough for me to remove the offending item. It was the front wheels. Upon inspection, we found that both of the bolts were bent that was holding the wheels. They were much too thin to hold the weight of the ref, much less the weight of the food inside.
Also, I inspected the compressor. It was holding the drip tray on top of it, which was full and about to spill over which would have dripped onto the wiring plug which I checked with an electrician. He informed me that in his opinion, it would have caused a fire. Since I am very handicapped and have to use an electric chair to get around, if it had started a fire, I do not think I could have made it to safety. My advice to you is check and double check the way your products are made for safety and replace any bolts that you should know are much to thin to hold any weight. By the way, it is now going to cost me about $4,000.00 to remove and replace my new flooring just to get rid of the scratch the product caused. If it was still under warranty, I would have Frigidaire in court for the cost to replace my flooring plus building a faulty product as well as a fire hazard.

We purchased a Side By Side Electrolux refrigerator in 2006 from Star Appliance in Marion, Iowa. The compressor went bad and the appliance store grudgingly replaced it. Two years later, the replacement compressor has gone bad, model #PLHS67EESB4. It was manufactured in 2005. The appliance store no longer services them, particularly if it is a compressor problem. Were all the refrigerators defective in that year? Every time this happens, we lose all the food in the refrigerator and will probably have to buy a new refrigerator to replace it. I'm not buying this brand again. We will purchase from a different appliance store as well.

Frigidaire side by side refrigerator, we've had it only a year and a few months. Last night my husband was having trouble sleeping and moved to the couch. Thank God he did because, after a little while, he heard a strange noise. He got up and looked at the fridge to find fire blowing out of the bottom of it. He unplugged it and the fire stopped. The house was filled with burning-plastic-smoke, lovely smell. Turns out the overload relay blew out.
The repairman replaced it and said it was a freaky thing, never seen anything like that in his 40 years as a repairman. Shouldn't happen again, but if it was caused by the compressor then the fridge will stop cooling things. He assured me though that even though the one year warranty is up on the rest of the fridge, compressors are always covered for 5 years--they are so expensive that you would have to just buy a new fridge if it went out.
But when he went to show me that clause in the paperwork for my unit, he was shocked to find that no, even the compressor is only covered for one year, and there's a huge list of parts that aren't even covered for that year! So, [bad] product and [bad] warranty to boot.
I'm just nervous about leaving the house when my fridge could have burnt the house down. Reading other entries on this website about this company, all kinds of their products seem to cause random fires! What if my dog was alone in the house? Scary.

I bought a Frigidaire refrigerator in Sept. 2006. This fridge started acting up lately. The freezer compartment did not freeze stuff and when I turned it up, pop froze in fridge section. So the repairman said it needed a $500-$550 coil as it had an ozone leak. Only 1 out of 4 coils was working. NOT WORTH FIXING! I should mention there was no benefit to this company as they did repairs only and did not recommend who I should purchase from or anything like that.
When we purhcased, I did not opt for the extended warranty as we were thinking about moving. It did not occur to me that the original warranty would only be for ONE year. I am almost 60 years old and have purchased several fridges in my lifetime. I have NEVER needed to have one serviced until it was old (over 10 years).
So I am very diasappointed in Frigidaire and would NEVER purchase their products again. I realize that I have very little I can do in the way of compensation for this loss. I was shocked to learn this had happened to a lot of people dealing with this brand. I believe that word of this will spread and the reputation of this comapny will suffer. In the long run, it will cost the company for treating people this way.

originalI purchased a Frigidaire freezer (modelFFu2065PW)(Serial#WB71340104)on 6-20-07 from local store in Bastrop,La.(Ivan Smith's) It had a one year warranty from factory. On 7-22-08 both the red warning light and a buzzer came on. I had never had any trouble from freezer before. I contacted store where I made purchase and was told there was nothing they could do since warranty had expired. They give me the telephone number I have listed, so I called it.
The represenative give me names of three service companies in my area. I called one of them (Lowery's)who sent a service man to my house. He diagnosised the problem as a Freon leak(refrigerant)in the cabinet(one of the sides) of freezer which could not be repaired. I called the rep. and the two men discussed the problem. He charged me $81.00 for service call and he did recharge freezer and told me it would refreeze, however it would leak down again.
Now the represenative for frigidaire let me speak to Ms Valerio who told me what the would do. I must send completed form, copy of sales receipt for new appliance, warranty card, serial tag from failed appliance. I would get 50% rebate for a replacement freezer. It must be Frigidaire, Kelvinator, Gibson. Tappin or White Westinghouse. Excluded was any products manufactured by Frigidaire for private retailers such as Sears. I could not find any brand eligible except Frigidaire so that is what I bought.
I believe the freezer was damaged from the factory, though I can not prove it and I think that the warranty should have covered more of the replcement cost since it was only one month over the one year period of warranty. I am unhappy about this and would like this to be included in your evaluation of Frigidaire products and sevice.
I bought the first freezer for $537.92. The replacement freezer one year later, was $656.97. I have not received a 50% rebate yet, but expect too. Other relavant damage was from some food thawing. (not food frozen as hard as meat but ice cream and fruits and vegetables)

Of course we had to have it diagnosed then a part had to be ordered, then we waited for that, then they had to install it. It worked two days and went again. We had to have it diagnosed again. Finally it was determined that it could not be fixed.
The paperwork was submitted to Electrolux by one of their authorized service repair companies. It took weeks to get Electrolux to do anything. They kept saying it was approved but they had to get in touch with Sears at our local mall to get them to replace it. We dealt with a whole front line of foreigners EVERY time we called.
Somehow, they could not get anyone to answer the phone at a major retail store at the mall...interesting. Finally after threatening a lawsuit naming everone from the ground up the corporate manager walked the paperwork over to another department for which they claimed they had no direct numbers to and had it faxed to sears. We will be three months without a refrigerator. Sears confirmed they recieved everythig.
They called us at home from the store in the mall to tell us we need to decide whether we want it delivered or picked up. We said delivered. He said we had to come in sometime before the delivery date and pay the $75. We went to the store last night to pay and no one knew anything about it. However, I was helped by one of the rudest people I have ever met. He screamed at me and humiliated me in front of the other customers. I will NEVER ever purchase any Electrolux owned appliance nor will I ever shop at Sears again.

The push lever on the water dispenser broke off so it cannot be used, the faceplate around the ice/water dispense is hanging by a cord, two of the freezer door shelves and three of the interior refrigerator shelves have cracked and broken.
We spent well over $1000 on this model at Lowe's and never expected to be replacing it so soon. After reading the rest of the comments on here I guess I should just be glad that my compressor has not gone out. I will never purchase another Frigidaire (Electrolux) appliance again. We purchased a beautiful stainless steel side-by-side refrigerator, with the ice dispenser, filtered water etc, and it worked well for about 2 weeks...we think. Then we closed up the house and went to Europe and North Africa on a family vacation for about a month in the summer of '07. We believe the refrigerator broke down either the day we left or soon after. A friend who was checking on the house noticed a strange odor coming from the refrigerator about a week after our departure.
When we arrived back home a month later (in the middle of the morning), we were hit by the overpowering smell coming from the refrigerator. We spent the next few hours clearing out the contents. At the first sight of daylight, we called The Brick, where we made the purchase. They informed us that we didn't purchase the extended warranty, and gave us the customer service number for Frigidaire. Frigidaire had a technician come out to our home a few hours later. He was in the process of ordering the part that was required to get the refrigerator running again. I instantly informed him to forget that idea, as I wanted the whole refrigerator replaced.
I spoke to the customer service rep again, and refused to accept the repair service. Frigidaire replaced my refrigerator the next day. I believe that malfunctions can, and do occur, so I can't slam every Frigidaire appliance. Through the generations my family have had a history with Frigidaire appliances, and I think that I just got the lemon that time. The other explanation is that perhaps the Canadian customer service is more helpful in their service. One would expect the US Frigidaire to have a much better customer service as their customer base is bigger. Who knows? All I know is that I am still confident about Frigidaire appliances, and will make other Frigidaire purchases.
I was not paid for the frozen food we lost as we did not have the extended warranty. We learned that we would only have gotten a flat rate of $250.00 anyway. Luckily we didn't spend the extra $239.00 on the extended warranty.

On June 9th 2008, our Frigidaire refrigerator (purchased on 9/26/2007 and so still under 1-year warranty) stopped blowing cold air. We were told that there are no service companies in our area (Indiana, PA) who can service a Frigidaire. Electrolux had to do a Service Escalation and get a company to come to our area.
It took five phone calls before someone was able to properly do this Service Escalation. We were connected with National Appliance Network. It took another four phone calls before a technician was able to tell us that he thought the temperature control thermostat was bad. He figured this out by our description of the problem.
He had to order the part from Electrolux, which took nearly a week to arrive. Then we had to call the appliance network back to schedule a repair person to come to the house. That took 3 more phone calls, at least. Then we were told that a service person couldn't come out for another week. When that day came, the person did not arrive in the time period.
I called again to national appliance network and was told that the service person had a car accident. I was told that I need to wait for National Appliance Network to find another technician who is willing to come to our area. Now, six days shy of one month after the first call was made, I am on hold with Electrolux again to see if they can give us a resolution. It took them nearly a half hour to even find our account on the computer system. This should not happen! What happened to the days when you could count on service?
We have had no refrigerator for one month at this location. All items in the refrigerator went bad. No one seems to be able to fix a Frigidaire if you live in Western Pennsylvania. Why then do they sell products in this area?

The next day a certified repairman was sent to look at it and repair it under the manufacturer's warranty. The value of this service is stated as $181.86. The slip states "Part failure: restriction in cap tube replc drier ck ok @ this time". Now 13 months later there are more problems further up in the same cooling system. Frigidaire has given me to this one and that one and nothing has been resolved. Yesterday they stated that they would pay to have the machine fixed.
Today, now that they got the report from the repair tech who checked the fridge, they have deemed it "not cost effective to repair." They say they will send me a rebate towards a new fridge but will not repair the current one or replace it. The machine had a problem from the begining and the certified repair person has told them the system is contaminated. We did nothing to cause this issue and I am stuck with a non-working fridge in 100 degree weather, forced to use a cooler and bags of ice to try to save a few items. We again have already lost food and are paying almost $2 a bag for ice at 4-6 bags a day. I don't think I will opt to spend another $600 on another Frigidaire product, especially a refigerator.

I called frigidaire to request they replace the part as I do not believe that metal parts that rust are a practical nor responsible material to use on equipment that is exposed to water.
Furthermore, I have owned refrigerators with ice dispensers and never had an experience of the parts rusting. I expressed that I believe this is a defect in manufacturing that poses a health and safety risk to their customers and consumers. They indicated that my only recourse was to call the parts department to purchase a replacement part. The service rep specifically stated this is not a warranty issue. I stated that in addition to posing a health concern, I believe this may be a recall issue and that I was going to notify Consumer Affairs as I do not believe that purchasing a replacement part, which I suspect, is made with the same defect is a practical resolution.

Frigidaire stainless steel side-by-side refrigerator has had multiple problems since purchased in October, 2003. Almost immediately we noticed a clucking noise when the refrigerator door was opened. Once authorized repairman told me it was because I had too much weight in the door, despite the fact that the door is designed to hold 2 gallons of milk, other bottles and jars (he suggested I store bread in it!). The ice maker in the freezer jams constantly, making so that it does not switch automatically from cubed to crushed ice (often gets stuck making crushed ice). In March 2007, the compressor went out. Fortunately, mine was the early model with the 5-year warranty on the compressor. That was on 03.07.2007. On 03.06.2007, I noticed things in my freezer seemed to be thawing, but thought one of the children had left it partially open. By the next day, it was obvious there was a problem - exactly one year to the day that the compressor was replaced. I doubt if they'll cover the compressor on this piece of junk!
I have spent well over $300 in labor costs to have this hunk of junk diagnosed and/or repaired, and am sure it is going to cost me again for the new compressor this time, possibly in the $500 range, since I'm guessing it is no longer covered by the warranty. That doesn't even count the food I've had to throw away, probably another $100-$200 dollars wasted.

Repairman installs new door, but tells me correct new screws didn't accompany it so that the final repair wouldn't be complete until they arrived. WHAT THE REPAIRMAN FAILED TO SAY WAS: the new door also had a faulty gasket. The gasket is punched down in 2 places on this new door. I called frequently while awaiting ANOTHER new door to express worries--the interior of my freezer was covered in frost, it seemed to run all the time. I told them I had to jam dishcloths in the gasket to keep the cold air from blowing out. On one of my 4 phone calls, I told them I was worried the mechanical integrity of the freezer had been compromised because it ran all the time. While very polite to me--except for one young woman who dismissively said: All the frost you are seeing won't affect your refrigerator.
Today is New Year's Day, and I woke up to a huge mess. Water all over the floor (I THINK from the ice cubes melting in that big receptacle), dripping down the dispenser onto the floor, AND a freezer of defrosting food. Now I've lost a freezer full of food, which seems to first have started melting in the partitions of the door itself--since everything on the door is completely thawed out. Some sort of cycle is taking place since some of the interior items are starting to re-freeze, but I'm worried about food that has partially defrosted and then refrozen.
Loss of frozen food, around $500.

It took calling Lowe's, who then gave me a number of a local service company, but it took several phone messages to get someone to call me back. Finally I heard back and a serviceman came and replaced the shorted-out part. I did get a check for the loss of food amount I asked for, BUT... here it is August of 2007 and the fridge has shorted out again, and we lost all cooling capacity.
I called Lowes, who again referred me to a service company, and I just called them to confirm they will be at my home tomorrow (the fridge quit cooling on Sunday.) The receptionist told me her computer was slow and would call me back. I'm still waiting for the call back. But for sure I will call again and again until I get confirmation.
After reading some of the horror stories on this report page, I guess I am fortunate that nothing worse has happened, and that we have the warranty plan and food loss plan. But to have a fridge short out twice within five months is a bit much.

To be specific, everything in the freezer was melted. I immediately called the number listed in my owners manual which is for a company named Electrolux. After explaining what the problem was, the rep from the company stated that I had a bad evaporator fan and that he would be shipping that part to me.
When I asked why he was shipping the part to me and what was I supposed to do with it, he explained that he would give me instructions on how to replace the part. To make sure that I understood him, I asked SO YOU EXPECT ME TO REPAIR THE REFRIGERATOR MYSELF? He said yes and if the repair were a difficult one he would not be asking me to do it. I do not know what his definition of difficult is, but do know that this 120 lb woman does not want to try to move a side x side refrigerator to unplug it, remove bolts and try to figure out where the evaporator fan motor is.
I was appalled at this customer service. He explained that the reason that he was asking me to do this is because if I use one of their repair companies the wait may be 7 to 10 business days. I just cannot believe that Fridgidaire would treat their customers like this and most certainly did not pay $1300 plus the cost of an extended warranty to fix my own refrigerator.

Frigidaire has apparently known about this problem with their product for in excess of 3 years from what we can see. They issued an advisory to all their repair technicians 2 1/2 years ago about this problem, but didn't recall their defective product.
When you call customer service they try to deny that anyone has ever complained about this same issue, and are rude and unhelpful. They will not get back to you and try to do everything possible to prevent you from getting a service technician out to fix the product.
Now we're still struggling with the problem which was NEVER fixed and now the warranty has expired so they won't cover any repairs (not they ever fixed it to begin with).

An auth frigidaire repair shop took a week to get available, there is only one in the area willing to do repairs for frigidaire purportedly due to frigidaire slow payments, so we waited another week without a fridge. We paid nearly $200 for the labor, and guess what, even with the new parts the frigidaire didn't work 24 hrs later. The repairman came again, and he said he needed to replace a part, and if that didnt work, he would have to replace all the parts again. Remember, this is their AUTH repair shop.
Frigidaire refused to give the parts again, and they informed us there was nothing more they would/could do for us. We were stuck with the repair bills from the first repairman, and the frigidaire repair, approx $250 total, and the losss in food, over $250 so we were out $500.

From reading your manual, it is so obvious the conpressor is gone since most of the time it makes this loud noise and quits altogether now. Also your manual says to clean the condenser when I have no way of getting to it since it is secure with some kind of screws that I cant turn.

no refrigerator. Talked to another supervisor...same
story. I might as well call myself and tell myself the
same story tomorrow. At least I'll be talking to
someone who cares...ME. Will keep you all updated.

I purchased a Frigidaire side by side refrigerator in 2002 August. After a year i began to have problems with this model:GLRS267ZAB4,serial. There has been problems with this unit every since i purchased it. There were several repairs made on this product the first year, eventually it was decided by the manufacturer to replace the refrigerator after which i had lost $250 in medication that had to be refrigerated and over $300 in food.
I was reimbursed one time only $50 from frigidaire. The appliance store H.H. Gregg brought me a new unit same make and model. After just one year i'm having the same problems with this one as well, the compressor was replaced then the filter had to be replaced and now the ice making mechanizum has gone bad. I have decided that i do not want this make or model and would like a replacement of equal value. I sincerly hope someone will take my problem into consideration and honer my request. I'm a senior citizen on disability, and cannot afford to continue having the expense of losing medication and food.

The Frigidaire refrigerator (model #FRS23H5ASB6) we purchased slightly over a year ago has developed louder and louder noise during icemaker operation. I'd just like to know what can be done about this. I have to add that, at the time of our purchase, we had to replace a failed refrigerator in a hurry, but I would not again purchase this Frigidaire. In addition to the ice maker problem, the depth of the refrigerator shelves is so great that it's hard to find anything.
The icemaker noise is extremely disturbing and has become a constant irritation.

While our main complaint was with Sears Home Central and the huge run-around that left us without a refrigerator for 6 weeks, we now are focused on the refrigerator itself. We have yet to take any action, and I'm not sure the best to handle it. We purchased a Frigidaire Gallery Series side-by-side in May of 2002 from Sears. Since then we have twice had to replace the compressor, losing all our food in both cases.
This last incident occured Labor Day weekend 2004 and was finally rectified in mid-October. Last week, our water dispenser stopped working. I don't know if the line is frozen (a compressor issue?) or the pump has stopped (I still hear noise). To the point, I think we have a lemon or, at the very least, a product with serious design flaws. I found another another person on website who experienced the same problems, although his complaint was under Sears Home Central rather than Frigidaire.
In our last experience with Sears Home Central, after much screaming and frustration they footed the bill for the entire repair. We have learned our lesson-we bought the extended warranty. And based on past experience, it was a smart move, since we will be calling them once again to repair the water dispenser.
Twice lost full refrigerator and freezer full of food.

I purchased my Frigidaire side-by-side refrigerator in February 2003 and by October 2004 the compressor went out. It took 9 days to have it replaced by one of their authorized repair services and we lost over $200 in food. It was finally repaired on November 1. The compressor again went out on November 19 and was looked at again on Monday November 22. We again lost about $200 in additional food. The repair service determined the issue to be a gas leak internally and the refrigerator should be replaced. The repair service sent the appropriate paperwork to frigidaire and as of today, November 29, a decision by Frigidair to replace it still hasn't been made.
So, not only have I been without an operable refrigerator for more than 3 weeks total, I've lost over $300 in food. Frigidaire refuses to pay for the lost food, and is taking an extreme amount of time to even make a decision to replace our refrigerator.
I have also emailed Frigidaire twice with no response. I've only been able to correspond by phone and they say I'll have to keep calling back to find the status.
We've lost over $300 in food and it has caused an extreme inconvenience since we had over 8 people visiting our household during the Thanksgiving holiday. I prefer not to have a Frigidaire replacement but Frigidaire will not just refund my money. They will only replace the unit (when and if approved) with the same or comparable unit.

As I write this, we are on our FOURTH WEEK without a refrigerator. I bought a NEW Frigidaire side by side refrigerator-freezer from Best Buy in Springfield, Virginia in June 2002. On December 23, 2003, we had a meltdown -- complete failure.
The first repairman--not a warranty repair--came on December 24--and diagnosed the problem as a sealed system problem -- a warranty repair problem. After paying him $70.00 foir the call, I called the Frigidaire's warranty NON-SERVICE toll free number. Of course it took over a week to get the warranty repair man to look at the refrigerator -- which he did for 15 minutes, then, after charging me $70 for the service call, said I've got to order the parts, and new compressor--if I had known that was the problem I would have ordered them right away.
Well---I had told the warranty telephone person that the first repairman had said that it was the compressor -- but they apparently do not even forward that information to the service technician.
A NEW date was set for the repair--a week from the date (December31) the warranty technician visited -- Wednesday, January 7. The parts had not yet arrived on January 6, so the warranty people calle me to say they had to re-order the parts--and that I was to call them as soon as the parts arrived, and they would have the repairman out the next day. The parts finally arrived on Friday, January 9 -- but when I called the warranty people, they said that the earliest date would be Wednesday, January 14!!!! The repariman would be here between 11 am and 3 pm I was assured (but why should they start telling the truth now?). Finally about 4:30 pm, I called the warranty number, and the person told me that the repairman was running late--but that he'd be here (Are we picking up a trend here?) Finally, at 6:30, the repairman arrived, shaking his head saying that he could not complete the job -- he said he wasn't aware that it was a compressor until he got here (Now that's another good one--just look at the sheet as you pull in the driveway). I immediately called the warranty line (by now I should have it on speed dial) --only to be told by the apologetic lady that she couldn't promise that he'd be back tomorroiw -- tha the earliest date is not next Tuesday, January 20th!!!
No one would have had to convince me that Frigidaire-Electorlux is a piece of crap by now--after all, its now the fourth week without a refrigerator --but after reading all the complaints here about Frigidaire, I'm left worndering how they stay in business.
Frigidaire makes ENRON look like a compassionate and ethical business!!!

I sent an e-mail to the Frigidaire company hoping I would get some sort of customer satisfaction. The only message I was sent was to call 706-860-4110.
I sent an e-mail message to the Electrolux company hoping for some satisfactory results. The only message I have received is that we will get back to you as soon as possible which was on November 23, 2003.
I am hoping that by contacting the consumer affairs office, something positive will happen. We paid $900.00 for this worthless piece of junk and neither the Frigidarire or Electrolux company seems to be willing to help us out.
As stated above, we paid $900.00 for this worthless piece of junk refrigerator. We have also lost $500.00 in food since every time the refrigerator/freezer thaws, the food spoils. We have contacted two authorized Frigidaire repairman; one of them didn't even try to fix the refrigerator and while the other repairman did come to replace a part, the refrigerator has once again given out.
We are wanting compensation from the Frigidarie/Electrolux company.
