I purchased a Dyson DC 17 in early 2007. I have kids, a husband that never remembers to take shoes off in the house, and pets. I am not a fan of the dust bunny/dog hair look! I am still amazed at what this machine will pick up! It empties out completely and easily. After I empty the bin, I usually take the bin off the cyclone part and tap the cyclone part on the garbage can and it knocks all the dust right out of the little holes.
I have seen people complain about the weight and have found that when vacuuming plush carpet it is work to maneuver. However, my observation of this is that the suction and brush is contributing. I think that if people simply don't like the way something works, they slam the company instead of just returning or reselling their vacuum instead. This is why there are many types of vacuums on the market, not one machine will work for everyone. It astounds me that people don't even consider this.
I have good proof that the extra suction on plush carpet pays off. When we had our super plush Shaw carpet professionally cleaned after owning it for 6 years, there was virtually no hair in the cleaner's hair trap. He was so amazed that he had to come in and tell me what a surprise it was. In a house my size on similar carpet and pets, it usually clogs and needs emptying several times during cleaning.
Just before my warranty expired (5 years in), my belt needed replacing. This machine had been so low-maintenance that I honestly forgot that it had wear and tear parts! I called their CS number and did a little troubleshooting with the rep. Not only did they help me figure it out in no time, they sent me a belt for free - I didn't even have to ask! Because I was so impressed with their customer care, I decided to buy a new flexible hose from them while I was on the phone because I wanted a new clean one- NOT because there was a problem with the one I already had. I highly recommend Dyson to people who want a truly clean house. If you require a vacuum that does the work for you instead of complimenting your effort, hire a housekeeper. It's rude to go online and trash an innovative company because you have your own personal issues.

After purchasing this product, my e-mail was somehow noted with Dyson. I was very unhappy with this expensive product, (would only work for 30 sec to 5 mins, varying, then cut out) Dyson kept sending me updated information on new product. Finally wrote and told them to remove me from their information site, as I was about to throw out the product. Several days later, Dyson contacted me and I sent the Vacuum top to them as they had requested. It was returned and allegedly fixed. The cut out problem remained. Their Consumer Affairs department works very well, but no follow up, and repairs were a waste of their time and money. Be aware, I really thought this company, Dyson, was different. Consider my remarks before buying these expensive products.

How could the Queen of England knight the guy in 2006 who designed the worst vacuum in the world. "Millionaire engineer and inventor James Dyson has been knighted for his services to business. The 59-year-old thanked his 1,500 workers for turning his invention into a "great international success." Norfolk-born Sir James revolutionized the domestic appliances market with the bagless vacuum cleaner. "I hope something like this will encourage other engineers and people who have ideas and inventions to go out and commercialize them," he said. The Dyson Dual Cyclone became the best-selling vacuum cleaner in the UK within 18 months of its launch.
Maybe because the machine is nothing more than a $650 overrated giant piece of plastic junk. The entire machine is so poorly designed, one has to wonder if there was any common sense when they first conceived it. The idea of the vortex is great, however, those tiny holes fill up with dust. Ever try to really clean them... good luck. It took us over an hour. We needed another vacuum to clean this one. This is a very heavy machine to carry up and down stairs. The wand of this machine is ludicrous. It is so long, you can never clean your car, your couches or anything that requires a tight space. No flex to it. The so called vortex sucking power is poor. I have to go over an area two or three times to vacuum up anything larger than a dust mite. A luxury carpet is almost impossible to push and it does not really clean it. It rips the heck of any rug edges. The brush makes the carpet lines look good... not clean. Never ever even consider buying this machine.
I called Dyson to ask about a replacement handle (remember the word "plastic") and they said we needed to buy an entire body of the machine for $450. Really. I cannot wait to take this to the crusher and get rid of it forever. I told Dyson, "I am going to go out and crush this thing and take a YouTube Video of it and post it." They could care less. I would not even give this thing away at Goodwill or ARC for fear of imposing this horrible device on unwitting customers that really needs a vacuum to clean their home. If you're even thinking of buying a Dyson anything, think of this instead: go to the bank and take out $800 in $20 bills and drive downtown and throw them all out the window. It is a better use of your money.

I purchased the Dyson DC28 and bought it due to the great reviews from family and friends. However, this has been the worst purchase I have made. When using it on carpet (4 bedrooms of carpet) the vacuum is very hard to push, and when you have done even the one large bedroom my back is killing me and my arms feel like I have been working out at the gym for hours. I contacted Dyson and did the things they recommended, all to no avail. I had considered buying the Dyson stick but after this experience with this one, will have to consider other brands. I miss my Rainbow that I had for years.

The Dyson child's vacuum bought at Sam's club west. The motor broke in 2 days, my 2 yr old played with it off and on. My husband took it back to Sam's and exchanged it for another one we didn't know, if the second one would last longer than first that's a big NO. Second vacuum broke just as fast as first one. We have super glued it together so many times it no longer comes apart so child can vacuum with hose. My husband glued the motor that fell down in the vacuum and the handle that has broke many times. Don't waste your time and money on this product.

I have a Dyson DC41 which has developed a fault. I have 2 years 6 months remaining on my warranty and called Dyson who said I needed an engineer visit. I was then informed by the advisor that they don't have engineers for my area so I would have to send the cleaner to them for in house repair! The Warranty States that they will repair your product at home or Work within 72 hours even on a Saturday. When I stated this to the advisor they said that they do not have engineers for area of London! Wish they had of stated this before I purchased. Seems you need to live in Dysons preferred area for them to honour their warranty!

I saw the Dyson on a TV commercial and bought the Dyson through the WalMart web site. After receiving the Dyson, it cleaned very well. But when I went to reading on how to clean and taking care of the Dyson I found that it had Multiple Dry filters through out the machine that had to be cleaned after each use plus it had to be cleaned in the air tubes on top for the Dyson to work properly. It was too much to clean after each use. My family has severe Allergies and this isn't something that we can use on a regular basis. And I know my wife would drive herself crazy trying to keep it clean with her having OCD and cleans almost daily. This isn't a Good Vacuum for someone who cleans on a regular weekly basis if they don't clean the (Filters) each time after using.

The DC39 vacuum shaved off the nap of my Oriental/Persian Rugs. The places where the vacuum did not reach is in original condition. My carpets are worthless at this point. Aug. 2014 I contacted Dyson and was told to send pictures. I pleaded with them to send a carpet expert, since pictures do not do justice to the damage. They have no field people! Upon seeing the pictures they claimed the damage to the carpets could have been the result of pre-existing damage due to loose threads etc. When I mentioned I will go to the Media, they asked me to send in the vacuum.
The vacuum was returned to me in a filthy state without even a note in it. I called them several times and finally reached Mrs. Alexandria. Their Engineers' Department found nothing wrong with it and therefore they are not taking any responsibility. I have Thousands of Dollars loss, the beautiful carpets are ruined and they walk away, claiming there is nothing wrong. HOW can a Company get away with such a thing??

I got a Dyson DC14 vacuum for free. The only complaint I have on it is changing the belt. What a pain it is. Just to get to the belt you got to take apart the bottom part of the vacuum to get to the belt. It's a hassle. Just trying to get a new belt on is a hassle. The vacuum requires two belts a clutch and brush roll belt. If the clutch belt breaks you have to replace the whole part. If you order new belts you get a brush roll and a clutch belt. That don't make sense. Why would you need a clutch belt if you have to replace the whole thing if it breaks? It should just be two brush roll belts. To me it's not worth it.

I was amazed reading through the negative comments on here that I felt I had to say something. I inherited my mum's Dyson DC07 in 2005 but I originally bought it for her in 2002 and had been using it to clean her flat on a regular basis for those three years. It's now 2014, the DC07 is still going strong and apart from the red catcher strips on the stair tool coming off, replacing a filter and having to change the belt a few times, I haven't had to replace anything.
I am a soft sculpture artist so I work with fur fabrics, fillers and wool fibres, have waist length hair and a cat that sheds fur everywhere all of which often spell disaster for vacuums but the Dyson easily copes with all of that. I use it every other day to clean the cat's room and his bedding, my workroom, our bedroom, the bathroom, the stairs and hall, then I empty it, give it a shake and put it away. Once in a while I give it a more thorough clean and a brush down but that is it. We also have a Kirby that hubby still uses to clean the living room, the down stairs hall and the kitchen but it's really heavy and I can't lift that anymore so the Dyson being much lighter has been a godsend.
Ok perhaps it doesn't quite have the concentrated beating power of the Kirby but the Dyson still picks up everything we throw at it and it does a decent job around the house, far better than the countless vacuums we went through before getting either of these which isn't bad when you consider the Dyson was only £159 while the Kirby cost us over a £1000 and costs far more to repair especially given we have had to replace more of the Kirby parts over the years as it's frightening how much they cost. They wanted £149 to replace a 50p bearing the last time they came to service the Kirby! Even up against the Kirby my Dyson does a grand job, how many other vacuums can say that? So as I said at the outset I really cannot understand the negativity about these cleaners.

Dyson DC23 Turbine head not spinning. Tried all avenues suggested by Dyson, to no avail. The only solution they offer is to purchase a new turbine head for $129.00. On investigation I found the white nylon fan that drives the rubber belt that drives the brush rotor has split from its shaft and spins independently of the axle. This is an easily replaced part that would cost no more than $10.00. Unfortunately Dyson refuses to supply it as a spare part. Their suggestion is to replace the complete head unit for the sake of a $10.00 part. Where are their green credentials, how wasteful is that in this modern day of repair, recycle, reuse? I can't justify this wanton waste of resources. I have no other option than to repair existing fan and axle, hopefully a good glue will fix it.

I received this vacuum from my husband as a gift. I had an older model Dyson, the yellow one before and I had the Dyson DC 40. It was in the shop once a year at Sears. It was a lemon as the motor always burned out. Sears could of replaced it and saved themselves a lot of money. So now the Dyson DC 40 is a big mistake as well. It does suck with a lot of power but that's all it does. It has a hose that is so short, that it is back breaking. You would have to be a midget to like it. The cord is also too short. The hose constantly gets caught up in the stupid little wheels. The actual tube that is attached to the bigger hose is so small that everything gets caught up in it. I'm always digging out the dirt with a skewer. If you don't remove they caught up hair or any little piece of whatever is in the tube. The hose screams at a high pitch until all tiny objects are removed. The vacuum also will lose sucking power. The vacuum constantly falls over as it light and clumsy. I wish my husband would of picked another company as I hate this vacuum with a passion.

Purchased my DC 41 Animal in December 2011, and spent $600--way more than I could really afford, but I wanted to finally have a really good vacuum. What a mistake. At first I loved it and thought it was really worth the money. I took very good care to follow the directives and wash the filters every three months, even though the one in the ball was a real pain to get back in because screwing it closed again was frustrating.
Now I hate it and I've increasingly hated it since I first bought it. What was a minor inconvenience at first has turned into lots of minor inconveniences and a couple of major ones! First annoyance: It must take someone with an extreme amount of patience to stand the thing upright because I try and try and try, and when it finally clicks and I think it will stay...IT FALLS OVER! I have gotten sooo frustrated I've actually scared my dogs! Seriously!
Second annoyance: It's pretty much impossible to use the hose to clean anything except for ceilings and anything several feet away, which is not always what you need it for when you clean. Case in point, trying to clean my sofa under the cushions. The hose just doesn't want to bend the way I need it to without crimping the hose and stopping the suction, no matter how many contorted positions I try. Third annoyance: Trying to put the filter back in the ball (as I said above). It's not easy to get the cover back on the ball
Fourth annoyance: This is a big one now and the reason I'm seriously going to look for a new vac. I already exercise 6 days a week and don't need another workout just maneuvering the vacuum. When vacuuming bare floor the vac sticks to the floor. It creates such a suction that it doesn't pick up dirt, but rather moves it around forcing me to pull up hard on the vacuum to get it off the floor. It has actually picked up vinyl tiles! So...anybody want to buy a DC-41?

This is the worst product I have ever bought in my life. Suction is absolutely terrible, it picks up dirt and spits it directly back out. Hugely frustrating and a massive waste of time and money. I'd urge everyone to stay away from this product.

I bought a Dyson 1 1/2 yrs ago. It worked great when I got it. After about 5-6 months of use it lost its good suction being that they say it never loses suction and it doesn't but what they don't say is how it loses the great suction down to a sip. I don't like to vacuum 2x in the same room.

I used to sing the praises of this company's vacuums, back when I had the one of the early models. But no more. I am on my second Dyson upright (Dyson 41 Animal, $600 before tax), which has failed after less than three years of use. A twenty-cent gasket or pressure/friction collar inside the hose tore off, making the unit unusable, as there is now no seal and the hose slides down the inserted wand when the vacuum is in the upright position. After half a day of phoning Dyson, waiting for return calls (only one of three were returned), shooting e-mails back and forth with multiple people in two departments (photos of every angle of my vacuum required), what they have offered as a fix is a "replacement part".
I know from my discussion with a customer service rep that this means a new hose/wand assembly, which will have to be switched out by a vacuum repair shop. So I now have to pay to service a defective appliance that failed well within the warranty window? Not acceptable. I had to throw out my first Dyson because crucial bits of plastic on the housing had chipped off with use (motor was fine) and the components would no longer click into place. When I replaced it, I had to buy all new attachments. This is planned obsolescence!
Vacuum companies can either sell you a sturdy unit that lasts a decade or more, and get steady money from you in bags and filters, or they can produce a poorly constructed (all plastic except for the motor), no-bag unit with washable filters that fails within six years so you have to purchase another... and new attachments. The latter is Dyson's business model. It's rubbish.

Technicians don't even want to deal with because it is not cost effective. I will advice everyone to not purchase Dyson in order to save money, headaches and time.

Would have to be the most unhygienic and dust producing vacuum I have ever emptied. I waited over 20mins waiting for a rep. DYSON 59 - The most expensive portable vacuum one can buy. Very awkward to empty canister, mostly needs to be removed and then very difficult to put back together. Rubbish gets caught in the entry to the canister from the inlet. Dust gets through the Filter easily and then into the motor assembly. Then dust starts coming out through the motor assembly at the rear so its definitely not doing what it was designed to do. It looks very fancy and the commercials are very convincing but If I had the option I would return this and buy a standard Dust buster. They are easier to empty and you can clean all components. I have spoken to Dyson and they refuse to tell me how to pull the item apart so I can clean out all the dust that has gathered in the last 8 months of use. Instead they have offered to service the unit for $150.00 + gst. I questioned the warranty and they advised by email that dust is not covered in the warranty. I'd suggest you don't go near this brand. The design is innovative for sure but does not do the work and their customer service is of no practical use.

When the correct color was installed, same brand and nap, the Dyson would not work properly? The Dyson could not be moved on the carpet, and pulled up the carpet into vacuum. When I called Dyson for support, they said their vacuums do not work on all carpets, that the suction was too strong for some naps? I explained that the vacuum had worked with previous carpet which was the same brand and nap, just a different color? They asked me to remove a seal in the suction mechanism, and to clean the filters. Did not work. The next time it only would only pick up hair and dust but nothing else, it would not even pick up dirt in the carpet ever since I got it. They say there's lifetime warranty on them but there isn't. They just keep telling you to send it to a vacuums dealer but they don't work, period. No matter what you do, there is very little suction in them.

Returned that small upright 4 months ago. I still have not received a credit on my debit card. I was told that they have to wait for 2 bank cycles. When it dawned on me what they meant, I realized that they were only going to let my credit hit at the end of the 2nd cycle from my bank - this was outrageous. I wrote to them and told them they in fact were using the float on my money. I forwarded my letter to Senators and Congressmen and I feel this should not be tolerated. I use online purchasing for most of my purchases and have never had this type of refund - I have always gotten my account credited within a few days for receipt. NOT 2 BANK CYCLES!!!! THAT'S 2 MONTHS OF THEM USING MY MONEY.

I wish to complain about their latest and other cordless stick type vacuum. My daughter sold vacuums door-to-door like a lot of people do in their first or second job trying to get some sort of job experience. In a commercial they show their Dyson, a Shark lift away in another vacuum, and the only one that picks up all the dust in the commercial is the Dyson. Well Consumers Report (Consumers Union) rates to Shark very highly in the Dyson is that even in the rating system because they were downgraded last time so now they won't submit any models for testing.
And as for the reason I told you about my daughter selling vacuums door-to-door, all salesmen are taught to take the customer's existing vacuum and when they are looking set the level indicator/lever/etc. at the highest level in your product at the proper level and run a comparison. Naturally the customer's existing vacuum these a lot of dirt behind in many vacuums are sold just on this trick. I suspect this is what Dyson is doing in our latest commercial. I purchased a Dyson Animal vacuum. I love the suction that it has, but it is made very cheap. It has a lot of plastic pieces on it that do not hold up to everyday cleaning. I went to push the button down on the basket to empty and the little plastic piece that pushes down on the basket latch, slipped down along the side of the bottom piece, and it looks like it is just about to break off. Now the latch won't stay up so I can replace it back into the machine once I have emptied it out. Please help me out in getting me a new and improved vacuum. So the machine has not been used roughly. I clean the filter like it says to do which if you call support they are mainly concerned with that and not the burning smell. They do not have a complaint department so even if you want to file a complaint you can't. Maybe that is why they get such good reviews. There were 6 other Dysons in the shop when I brought mine in and another lady leaving with one. Not what I was expecting when I paid so much for it. Don't believe the hype.

Purchased a Dyson vacuum approx 4 1/2 - 5 yrs ago. Starting at about 2 yrs, plastic pieces started breaking off. It has gotten that if you look at it, a piece of plastic will fall off. I have not abused this vacuum, just normal household carpet vacuuming. I have held pieces of it together with bungee cords for about 2 yrs, not wanting to buy another vacuum after spending so much for this one. The seals where the dirt tank connect to the vacuum no longer seal tightly and it has definitely lost a whole lot of suction. Save your money, for something so expensive to last no longer than a much less expensive vacuum, it is not worth it.

Absolutely shoddy, illogical and indicative of why these parts keep breaking - badly made and so they have given up on the warranty to save costs. I just don't understand why so many people seem to recommend Dyson. That is the reason I bought mine. I had it for about three long years. In that time, I replaced two hoses that cracked, and two brush rollers from the power nozzle that had the nylon brushes wear down to nothing. This model had no upholstery brush, I had to order that separately, but I'd already known that. Just seemed a little odd though.
It did absolutely nothing to get up the hair from my three cats. I ended up using the hardwood floor piece even on the rugs because of the worn brushes on the power nozzle. It has excellent suction, but when the canister got a little over half full there was a difference because it spit the dirt back out. This particular Dyson (maybe all of them) has no suction control. Not much fun when you're dealing with curtains or lighter weight items. I sucked up things I hadn't planned to quite a few times. It also was quite heavy. It was very loud and my animals were scared to death of it.
I just bought a new vacuum by another company who's been around awhile and I can already see a difference. I can actually say that I see a carpet that's not a carpet of hair. I didn't buy a Dyson Animal at the time because I didn't see a canister for sale back then and my orthopedic surgeon told me to stick with canisters because of a spinal fusion. This was a Dyson canister. The Stowaway DC21. Please do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. I would include a picture but my camera is not working well at the moment.

Bought vacuum 5 months ago. It clogs on a regular basis. When it works it is great. But it is clogged more often than not. When it was clogged on the actual canister and I could not fix on my own I called the company. I was instructed to take to be fixed. For the amount of money I paid I feel Dyson should pay the postage to have fixed instead of the consumer taking the time. Dyson then agreed to have it sent via UPS. I received vacuum back after 1 week with no paper work telling me what was done. I called again and was told there was a clog. I asked what the clog was and how it could have gotten up into the canister. I do not understand how there can be no paperwork. For a large company it is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with and I will never buy a Dyson product again and do not feel they stand behind their product and it is. This is my third Dyson I've owned and the last, my two previous ones were okay but the motors died just out of warranty... But silly me thinking the DC40 would be better. WRONG, it's the worst yet, I had the DC04 and DC14. Build quality was good and tools were great. Forget that on the DC40. It's cheap and nasty, flimsy and just poor build quality. They make kids' vacuums better made than this.
Poor design, let's start by the cable, wrong length and too short. When you wind it up, you have to go the right way or the clip won't hold the plug that dangles and when you go the right way, the clip is at the top and difficult to clip it on and the plug seems to dangle at the top... That ball is too close to the head and harder than the old ones to get under anything. The rubber seals if that's what you call them, cheap foam more like on the pipes keep coming out when you take off the tools, grrrr. The hose is shorter and makes the unit fall over or follow you, dangerous at the top of stairs!.
Now those rubbish tools, not sure which is worse, the crevice tool or the bristle brush. Who the hell designed that crevice tool with its silly bristle head? I ripped that straight off. It's too thick and small but too long and you need two hands to use it as its bendy ffs. The rest are lost in the shoe cupboard never to be seen again. No storage, we got the free spring clean kit... Don't bother, its rubbish, even cheaper tools you will never use! You can't use the old tools because they don't fit, and that stupid button to release them, is it that they are so cheap that they couldn't get them to stay on so added that button?
Another reviewer is right. All you seem to do is empty carpet fibres to way too often!!!!! I'm selling it and buying an old DC14. It was the best they made, trading on the name and churning out cheapo crap for maximum profit just like everyone else!!!!!! Arrogant and don't listen to the customer. Got that sorted out and put back together, only to find a few weeks later it started whistling loud, and had no suction at all through the hose. No clogs whatsoever. The clean every 3 months filter should be cleaned after every use. The lifetime filter takes 24+ hours to dry in the sun. Does not edge clean. Couldn't even suck up an ant! When I try and angle the attachment to a usable angle with my arms, the hose starts to shriek and my arms start to hurt. The Dyson DC 41 vacuum is poorly designed. The hose attachment function is practically unusable due to its 4 foot FIXED extension. As a hand tool, the fixed length of the extension makes it impossible to use in small spaces like behind a toilet bowl, for example, or to clean a window sill. You are forced to deal with 4 feet of rigid plastic tube. It's like trying to paint small spaces with a paint brush that has a 4 foot handle. The "flexible" hose is so tight that it pulls the vacuum behind you like a spring as soon as you go two feet from the unit.
I have to lay the entire machine down on the floor to make it stay stationary so it doesn't continually follow me around hitting my heels as well as furniture. Also, the vacuum itself can't be rolled over any "lip" like a carper edge or door sill. The entire machine must be lifted....totally unreasonable for older people or those with upper body problems. Finally, you can't adjust the vacuum height. This is ridiculous because it renders the machine unusable on most carpets. In all, a very bad waste of a lot of money. Better to get a Hoover for a third of the price.

It requires the user to put some sort of device to the top of the canister and manipulate it to eliminate the rest of the accumulated debris. I empty it regularly, I clean it regularly and I clean the filters as specified by Dyson. I have one medium dog with short hair that does not shed that much. The Dyson works great when it works, but in the short time I have owned it, I have had two major problems. The first problem occurred in Aug 2012 and was an electrical issue. I had to take it in for service and did not have my vacuum back for more than a month. The second problem occurred May 2013 and was a motor problem. I did not have a working vacuum for almost 3 weeks.
While both of these problems were under warranty, Dyson would only credit my warranty by 2 weeks for a portion of the time I was without the vacuum. If these occurred while not under warranty, each fix would be between $125-$175. My 5-year warranty ends soon and I know it will be only a matter of time before I'll have another problem. When another problem occurs, I really need to consider if I want to pay to have it fixed or just buy a new vacuum. I got a new Dyson DC24 Animal in March 2012. This was the vacuum Dyson recommended for my RV with a small area to clean. The beater bar broke on it in May 2012 and damaged my carpet. I called Dyson and they walked me through their "easy fix." It did not fix it. I sent pictures as requested by Dyson for their "engineers to look at". On another email a few weeks later, I sent extra pictures to Alexandra at Dyson as requested in that email, "for the engineers to see" again. I got a letter the next day from Dyson, to my address in San Diego saying the engineers said there was nothing wrong with it. Really, the bar won't move or work. It is broken!
So the beater bar doesn't work and the suction is bad. What do they think, consumers are dumb? How did I get a letter from Chicago to San Diego the same day? I didn't ... It was posted 5 days before they asked for the pics of the broken beater bar, so they lied again. I sent it in on December 16, 2012 to Dyson in Buffalo, New York. Two weeks later, they can't find it ... of course.
On February 8, 2013, the vacuum was back in exactly the same condition as it left. They won't return calls, including messages for supervisors. I have all this documented by recordings and videos. This broken beater bar damaged my carpet in May 2012 and, to this date, there is no resolution to this issue either, and I have had a non-working vacuum since May 2012. And a few days after my vacuum came back, I got a letter again saying that I "abused the vacuum" and that the sole plate is damaged. Really, in 6-8 weeks vacuuming my small RV floor? That's proof of a bad product.
So I took my vacuum to a certified Dyson vacuum repairman. He told me the sole plate is fine, and that Dyson denies all claims of damage of their products. He also said that I'm not the first and that the beater bars break often and are a bad design. So they sent it back broken to me, and it's still under warranty? This is how Dyson voids their warranty; they say you abuse it ... I shared this letter to the repairman, and, "it's generic," he said, "I've seen it before." So I asked why he works on Dysons still after all of this, and he said he will be ending his service for them soon, and other repairmen I called have also done the same with Dyson.
$400+ on a vacuum that lasted 6-8 weeks in a small RV ... really? So, I had to finally buy a vacuum and bought a Hoover (cheaper model). This new T series model from Hoover picked up 100x better than the expensive Dyson and was half the price. After all of this mayhem, all I wanted was a new vacuum, forget the carpet damage ... but they won't do that as it says they are not at fault for the damage.
Don't buy a Dyson. Read all the complaints online about Dyson before you decide to buy. It's the worst customer service ever! Shame on you, Dyson.
I made complaints to the BBB in Chicago where Dyson is located. I was told they have taken themselves off from the BBB for complaints. The BBB said I could file one still, so I did. And, again, Dyson gave another generic response of abuse. I have caught them in multiple lies, and have the letters and emails to prove it, along with the Dyson repairman's assessment. So the moral of the story is, Dyson does not live up to its warranty.

On 27 Dec. 12, I rang to change the appointment. Beth answered the phone in Customer Services. She asked me my name and I asked her a simple question as to how she was going to spell it. She ignored me totally. I was to say to her that ignoring people is not acceptable and before I finished, she deliberately hung up on me. Had it been an accidental disconnection, she would have rung back but did not. Talk about rude and insulting, is this Sir James Dyson's idea of customer service and courtesy?
I was to phone again to make a formal complaint and sort out the original problem in the first place. I spoke to another rep called Nick. Instead of asking me how my name was spelled, he just spelled it wrong. I find this matter very insulting and upsetting where individuals just cannot be bothered to handle a simple matter as that. I was passed to a Hannah who was going to look into matters and listen to the call! It was quite clear by the tone in her voice that she was not in the least bit concerned.
It is all in house, so nothing is ever done and it is an offense under the Telecommunications Act to hang up on someone. This is a typical scenario of the could not care less of individuals such as Beth. She was fully aware that I would have to ring back but as there is no discipline in the Customer Service Department, she was not bothered at all and would rather cause more inconvenience and upset. She has no idea of who she is talking to at any time and deliberately and intentionally causes distress and upset through her attitude to other people.
I am handicapped and going through rather a lot at present so coming across individuals who act in the manner that Beth does is extremely disconcerting. It is about time that staff in CS should always treat people in the manner that they themselves would like to be treated. I stated that I would be speaking to Sir James Dyson about this matter and Hannah in CS stated that he would not speak to me. Perhaps I have lost the plot but how on earth can someone in CS speak on behalf of the Chairman of the company?

I purchased the Dyson Animal Vacuum through the shopping channel in late August 2012. I started using the vacuum cleaner in late September and encountered difficulty with it every time I used it, which was frequently. It either clogged, lacked suction, etc. I spent more time trying to figure out why it wasn't working then vacuuming. In sheer frustration, I called their helpline only to discover I had received a defected vacuum cleaner - after only 6 weeks of use. I had no return option, only to send it to their repair center. What an inconvenience. Now without a vacuum for who knows how long, what do they expect their customers to do? I will be telling everyone I know not to purchase a Dyson.
I have made attempts to contact the manufacturer, but to no avail. I can only reach their customer service center. I have also contacted the shopping channel waiting to see what their response will be. If I had an option, I would return it for a refund! Lesson learned. Now I will tell anyone wanting to buy one to save their money! Not worth the money for the product and their lack of interest in their customers' satisfaction with their product!

I have been jerked along now for a week, telling me it's been fixed (beater brush and belt) and is in "transit." Dyson repair customer service tech informed me that the staff who works for Dyson never uses Sears because of their bad reputation and how long it takes them to get the job done. How cool is Brent, they should fire his ** for telling one of their customers this. I could have gone out and bought a cheap vacuum a few years back and just thrown it away at this point and bought a new one. I love the vacuum but will never purchase anything else from Dyson again, just because of the experience I am receiving now with them.

Dyson Vacuums are over-priced, over-marketed pieces of flimsy plastic junk! They destroy carpets. They void most carpet warranties and many of them are made of flimsy plastic. I purchased a Dyson DC41 Animal Vacuum in July for $600. Less than three months later after very light use, a frail and thin part of the base plate broke and gouged tears in my carpet, several feet long. I contacted Dyson and told them about how the vacuum damaged my carpet and they had me send in photos of the damage and the bottom of the vacuum.
I didn't notice that a little part of the base plate was broken. They noticed the broken base plate and pointed it out to me as the cause. I told them that it was their fault since I didn't abuse the vacuum, and it broke because it is made of flimsy plastic. They denied all responsibility and liability. I have done some research (do some googling) and I have read many reports of Dyson Vacuum fraying carpets and such due too powerful suction, stiff bristles, and self adjusting base plate. It gets too low and there's no way to self-adjust it. I have also read many complaints of how flimsy this particular model is and also Dyson Vacuums, in general. Dyson bombards with ads and has a great marketing campaign, but the truth is that their vacuums eat carpets and are made of flimsy plastic.

The brush stopped functioning and I called 1800 number listed on the operating manual. The wait was not too long and the person helping me was helpful. After we went through some steps, the brush started to work. I noticed a few days later that the vacuum stopped suction. I did everything I can to make it work properly. I even cleaned the filters and looked for blockages as stated on the manual. It does not turn on at all. It is still in good shape, almost brand new. I have spent several weeks trying to get my vacuum fixed due to Dyson's policy regarding "select repair centers". Even though the vacuum is still under warranty, I just wanted it fixed by a reputable, near by, vacuum repair shop. Apparently, Dyson will not contract with them because they don't have enough volume. This shop has an impeccable reputation but why should Dyson care about good customer service and the act of actually getting a vacuum fixed without hassles. Dyson would not even sell this shop the minor part that was needed. So I had to go get my vacuum and start all over.
I called Dyson. The woman on the phone gave me several pieces of misinformation, even after I specifically asked. For all I know it wasn't misinformation, the second and third person stating just the opposite might have been giving me misinformation. This is apparently a common occurring at Dyson's "customer support".
So I called Sears and spoke to three different people with this misinformation. I wasted 45 minutes on the phone with them and then had to call Dyson again. This second representative was the worst. She was condescending, loved to quote her "knowledge" repeatedly without even listening to what I had said. They must be "trained" to chat incessantly while they have you on mute. She literally did not listen to what I had just told her. She would not escalate the call and threatened to "put me on hold" if I didn't listen to "what she had to say" much like you'd threaten a time out for a three-year-old. She didn't even understand the problem.
Finally, she did "transfer me to the floor team leader" (i.e., her buddy at the cubicle next to her who owed her one) several weeks into the process of trying to get my vacuum repaired, I have another location to take the vacuum to. I asked if Dyson could simply talk to the service center and set it up, but no, this representative explained, this would take so much time to straighten out the "confusion". Apparently, Dyson likes their customers to try to "straighten out the confusion" for them.
I am previously satisfied customer who is now extremely dissatisfied due to much of my time being wasted and I am still with or without the vacuum. I will be advising everyone I know that buying a Dyson is not worth the hassle. I will not buy Dyson products until I can take it to a nearby location, which, Dyson has clearly explained the contract to and I, as the customer, can take it where ever I want if I choose to pay.

We got a Dyson Vacuum cleaner, thinking it would be great, being light and easy to steer, making things easier for both my wife and me. What we've found is that being easy to steer, is the only thing that's easy about it. It makes lots of noise, but the suction delivered to the head is next to nothing. The head is so close to the floor, that it simply pushes any bit of dirt larger than dust around, and moves it from one place to another. Even if you maneuver it to lift the head, and put it back down on the dirt, it doesn't suck it up.
The beater bar is constantly jamming on lint, forcing me to take it apart, clean the fibers off the bar, and re-install it. Dyson has a great racket going here, but they need to quit the false advertising. My unit is useless. I bought it through our consumer direct buy club, and will have to see whether or not they will refund my money and permit me to return the thing. After months of calls, I had the vacuum sent to a certified repair in Long Island NY through Sears on September 27 2011. I received it back on October 3 2011 and again the same thing happened. I sent it back to Dyson with a video a piece of left over linoleum and pictures on November 8 2011. I received a call on December 5, 2011 that the engineer decided it was the repair that was made to the machine that made the roller not work properly. So you tell me if this is the case why would I have this claim for months before the repair was even made? I stated from the beginning that the roller did not stop. I sent pictures of the damage way before I sent if to be repaired and now they want to say it was the repair that did that. I have the video of the machine ripping up the floor. I have a list of all the phone calls a page and a half. I have no doubt that I will win but you tell me why should I have to do this. I have to have a lawyer. I have to have someone to serve the papers and I have to travel to Chicago from New York.

I have developed a extremely sore right elbow from using the wand on my upright Dyson, and I believe the "easily maneuverable ball design" has been straining my shoulder. If you pay attention to how your body moves when using the upright ball Dyson, it makes sense. I have been making myself use my left arm which is awkward because I'm not ambidextrous, this eases the pain. But every time I go back to my right hand, the pain comes right back.
I agree with the ** transition from floor to carpet, you have to lift it up and when the handle is released the whole bottom just kind of hangs there. I also had to order a new filter for the inside of the ball because I mistakenly used warm water to wash it instead of cold. The warm water melted the glue around the rubber seal of the filter and when I reassembled it, it sounded like a 747 taking off.
I called Dyson and turned on the vacuum so the guy could hear it. He diagnosed the problem by hearing the sound over the phone and sent me a new filter. The only drawback was that it took 10 days for the filter to get to me. The guy said I could keep using it even though it sounded like a 747.

Exactly year ago I bought Dyson after our Fantom canister motorhead broke again. My bf said it's old and we need new vacuum. Big mistake! I should have fixed it as I did before!
I will list the one and only feature that I liked on it. Design on the motor head elbow (that was the only problem with Fantom), appears to be very heavy duty and sturdy, that's all. Other than that, the motor head height is not adjustable and it is impossible to go over many throws, doggie blankets etc, without it being sucked in. The flexible hose cannot be removed from the telescopic wand so I could just use the end to get in the corners or as needed to pick up spilled kitty food around the bowl.
Flex hose is attached at the bottom, it is awkward and it doesn't pull right over shaggy rugs. Trying to vacuum hardwood floors, you really have to change the floor attachment. The motor head, even if turned off, will spew junk all over. The bin collector has way too many stupid little plastic parts making it look cheap and weak, and it is hard to keep it clean.
My old Fantom bin had two pieces and I regularly wash it in DW. Dyson is not worth the money. I wish I could trade it in for Fantom, which they don't make anymore, or sell it for decent price, but nobody wants it. So I am stuck with 700 dollar plastic piece of **. How could I ever be so stupid? I wonder if Dyson would be willing to buy it back? Don't they stay behind their product?

I've had two Dysons. The first one was a gift purchased at Sears. It was heavy, got clogged up and the animal hair brush (purchased separately by me at $45) got clogged all the time. I gave it back to the person that gave it to me mainly because it was so heavy. Then, and I admit it was stupid, I bought a lighter version. This one clogs up, and lost suction and the spring that kept it upright broke. I spent $400 on that one. Believe me, I wouldn't take another on as a gift again and they're very over rated, get nasty quickly and do loose suction. And the only reason this has one gold star the site made me put at least one star before I could submit.

I am tired of dealing with customer service, yet no one higher up at Dyson is interested in hearing/resolving my problem. Now I am stuck with an expensive hunk of junk and dirty carpets!

I ordered the incorrect part for my Dyson vacuum cleaner. I returned the part and had to call them with the USPS tracking number. They had no return form like other companies do. They did not process my refund. I called and emailed multiple times. It wasn't until I told them that I was going to dispute the charge with my credit card company that they finally gave me a refund, for the wrong amount! They refunded me for a part that I ordered a year ago and did not return.
They still owe me $13.00. It is not much, but it is the principle. I have since called and emailed several times and have not received the remaining refund. Their return procedures are inefficient and not at all customer friendly. They have great vacuum cleaner, but lousy customer service.

I purchased a Dyson Animal from Sears for my wife in December 2006. The motor literally caught on fire while in use approximately 90 days later. Dyson had Sear's Service Center replace the motor. The motor caught on fire a second time one year later. This time, Sears claimed that the warranty (their own one-year warranty) was no longer in effect, which resulted in a verbal battle between Dyson and Sears. Sears was forced to replace the motor again. Now, the machine has no suction, and blows dirty air into the room when in use. There are no blocked hoses, filters, etc. Basically, these machines are cheap pieces of junk, and I'll never buy a Dyson product of any kind ever again. My wife hates them!

Not only do I think it's a very expensive piece of junk, the Dyson approved Service Center they had to take it for repair said it was far inferior to a Meile and proved it by demonstration. It is now again broken and this time, I will donate it to Goodwill. I have managed hotels for 40+ years and have been through hundreds and hundreds of vacuums. The housekeeper who cleans my home has been a housekeeping supervisor of a 760-room hotel that I managed, so she is even more experienced than me.
I was happy to provide her with what I thought was the Rolls Royce of vacuums. We tried very hard to work with it. It only works on hard surface floors, not carpet. It ripped the tassels off my Persian rug and then spun a hole that burned the carpet in the shape of the roller. I had to purchase a cheap Dirt Devil for the carpets and it works just fine, so I'll get another one. All in all, the Dyson DC17 Animal Vacuum was a $549.00+ tax mistake. I will warn all that will listen to stay away from Dyson. My rating in all categories, zero!

Dyson sold defective vacuum. I had it repaired by ** four times, the last repair done by a company in southern Ca., Sew Pros.
I don't know whether this guy repaired it or not, he put it in the same beat up box I mailed the vacuum. The box was so beat up and can not be used for anything, yet, this stingy repairman packed the vacuum without any protective material in the same box and sent it to me.
Of course, the box won't hold. In the process of shipping, the $500 vacuum was broken, cracked, beaten up. I called Dyson, the same representative whom I spoke with previously said that "there's no replacement guarantee" while I have a written guarantee for replacement. It seems that reps are trained to lie.

We purchased a new Dyson vacuum cleaner in Feb. of this year (it's now Nov 2010). After a few months of use, my wife started to complain about the vacuum not working well. It worked really well when we received it so I checked it out. Well, the belt that spins the roller is broken. On most vacuums, it's an easy replacement but since this is new I called Dyson. The customer service lady first accused me of damaging the vacuum by running over something, which absolutely did not happen. Then I was told the warranty was out. Five year warranty that doesn't cover a major component of the machine is out in 10 months? Ridiculous. I'll never buy another Dyson machine ever.

I mean common, I paid for quality, not the 5 year warranty (which I am sure I’ll have to use). I won’t have a vacuum cleaner for longer than I have owned the stupid thing. After owning the vacuum for two years, it fell over, as it sometimes does when I was using an attachment. This time however, a cheap plastic piece holding a spring broke. As a result, the vacuum would no longer remain upright. The piece that broke shouldn't cost more than a couple of dollars. I called their help line and explained what happened.
Assuming the repair was under warranty, I asked that they send me a replacement part and I would repair the vacuum. The person insisted that I take it to a repair shop so the warranty would not be voided. So I did.
When it was repaired, I was informed that the warranty did not apply and it costs $40 to fix. Incidentally, the store where I took it is closed Friday's after 2pm and all day Saturday. It is 15 miles from my home and only takes cash. The good news is my warranty is still in effect. But the bad news is nothing is covered.
The next time someone on the telephone with a British accent is selling something, even if it has a ball, I'm reaching for the remote.

I do not have an address for Dyson. I have a Dyson DC17 vacuum. The mini turbine head which came with the vacuum is a hazard due to the way it connects to the vacuum for cleaning upholstered furniture. I used it for the first time last week and was amazed to find that it did not attach securely to the hose. It is very heavy and the hose is flexible. It just slips down onto a plastic tube and will not stay on. It kept slipping off as I was using it. It fell off once and fell on the side of my leg just above the ankle. It was sore, bruised and swollen. If a mom was using it and had a small child near her, it could fly off or drop off and injure the child. This product should be recalled and redesigned. I could not finish all my chairs with it and had to resort to the small attachment, which was not meant to be used on furniture. I will never try to use the turbine head again.
Otherwise, I like the vacuum. I emailed Dyson to complain about the attachment and have not heard from them. I called Dyson while I was attempting to use it and the lady said that was the way it attached and that I just shouldn't press hard. I didn't, it just falls off with use. As far as the vacuum, it is the best for cleaning floors I've ever had and I've had 5 new vacuums. Thanks.

I bought a Dyson DC25 about 5 years ago, thinking I'd never have to replace it, because of the statement of Mr. Dyson himself that states "it never loses suction." Wow, what an invention! I was so excited. The enthusiasm for this vacuum did not change until the vacuum lost all the suction! It wouldn't pick up a thing.
So I called the 800 number found on the vacuum, which obviously was a great place to put, because eventually you would need it. I was told to clean the brush area (already did), to take the filtering area out of the canister area, and clean that (already did). When I explained this to the rep, there was obvious confusion as to what to recommend next. So I was told by her to take the inside of the canister to my local car wash and use their commercial vacuum to suction the small holes to make sure it was cleaned inside.
Out the door I went and followed the instructions given to me. I came home, anxious to have my vacuum back, because I was sure this would solve the problem. Wrong! I called back the 800 number, and of course, I got a different rep (didn't expect the same one). I explained this whole scenario over again and was given the name of a "certified Dyson repair shop," reassuring me that my Dyson was under warranty and would be of no expense to me.
I got the Dyson "repaired" at a dealership that was 35 minutes away from me with turnpike fees. And upon picking it up, I owed $85, because it was not under warranty anymore based on the info Dyson gave them over their computer. I paid the $85, and 3 months later, no suction! I am buying a Kenmore canister like the one my mom lent me during the initial repair time. Buyer beware!

I ordered accessory brushes for my Dyson vacuum. The package was sent with no signature requirement, supposedly left on the porch, unfortunately there isn't one. I live in an apartment building with no reception and an open entry immediately off the street. I never received the package. I have no accessory brushes, and I am currently out the $64.99 plus shipping. I am now locked in a battle with their customer service who is making demeaning suggestions like "take a look around the perimeter of your home", as though I wouldn't have thought of that myself?
I presume this is a stall tactic. The usual b.s. to find a way to not replace the items. It seems to me that if a company is going to make the decision to let a package out of their door with no signature requirement, they should be ready to replace the items without dragging the customer through a load of red tape. I can tell you that I am ready to burn the vacuum, video the ceremony, and post it on YouTube where it will probably be seen by millions. I hope this is worth the price of the plastic that went into the three missing brushes.
Thanks Dyson. I love you too.

We bought our Dyson about three years ago. It started off great. The attachment sucks and not in the good way but everything else worked great. About a year after we bought it, it started needing to be taken apart after every use to be cleaned out. I don't have pets and I'm not picking up anything that shouldn't be picked up in a vacuum. We even have to get out the air compressor to clean the filter. I've taken it in and they can't find a thing wrong with it. So of course, Dyson won't replace it.
I clean houses for a living, not once have I ever used my Dyson, but I see a ton of Dysons. It's amazing how many people are having trouble with theirs. One person's hose is not sucking, there is nothing in the line. One persons shuts off after 10 minutes of use and won't come back on for hours and another keeps collecting a huge amount of dirt in bottom filter. The owner of the facility called Dyson back and said it looked as if they was used for commercial use and refused to fix them. I've had them for a while and never brought them in for a repair once. To make a long story short, they (Dyson) sided with the repair store owner and my $600.00 a piece vacuums with a 5yr. warranty was voided by Dyson! This was insulting me as well as my wife. What kind of system is that for the warranty?
They penalized me for having a dirty vacuum, eye ball system? Look at it and determine if it has been used commercially? That's garbage. I went to the store picked out 2 $600.00 vacuums Dyson never even saw them but sided with the store owner over the consumer. This was a very, very bad and costly decision. How can he the store owner make that determination and the company side with him after all the loyalty and money spent?
Do not buy this vacuum there are loopholes in the warranty and you can't do anything about it. This company reeks and the product cheaply built. I encourage anyone out there that it's a trap! They have a stupid system to determine ones warranty. I spent the money, so should Dyson for repairs.

Wow! I never knew how bad the Dyson vac that we have was until I read some of these reports. Our DC25 picks up a huge amount of dirt and dust, that's bad. It is light and powerful, that is also bad. Emptying the dust collector takes about 30 seconds and no dust is spilled in the house, how terrible. It is so incredibly maneuverable that we hardly have to move any furniture, that obviously has to stop.
Then one respondent says you need an engineering degree to assemble or use it, oh dear, I don't have a degree that is probably why I assembled it in about 30 seconds without looking at the instructions. My wife who also does not have an engineering degree uses our Dyson without any problems at all. Just shows how wrong one can be doesn't it. I mean we thought that the Dyson was very well designed and constructed of good quality materials, it looks good and its performance is nothing short of astounding. We are dedicated central vac users but our latest house didn't have central vac and I have been unable to install a central vac upstairs.
We bought the Dyson for the upper story but have been so impressed with it that we tend to use it instead of the central vac downstairs. Well of course this will now have to stop we had no idea just how wrong we have been until we read some of these reports. We can't decide whether to enroll in an engineering course or buy a new vac. Sadly over the years we have tried many other vacs such as Hoover (what a joke these pieces of junk are) Eureka (oh dear never again). Bissell (no way), Sears (we did buy a small one that wasn't too bad), Oreck (you must be joking) etc. etc. etc.
Oh, well it looks as if we will have to stick with the Dyson, bad as it is. In case you did not catch on I wrote this report with tongue in cheek, those of you who have had so much trouble with the Dyson should remember the words of Cassius when he said: The fault dear Brutus is not in our stars (or Dyson) but in our selves. For those who are challenged by literature (as well as Dyson Vacs) this quote is from the play Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. Sorry I still can't stop laughing, needs an engineering degree to assemble and use it. Have a nice day.
