I have a 2003 JD L110 with over 1500 hours and have it serviced with the kit that includes the oil, oil filter, air filter, gas line and through the years I have replaced some worn out parts. I also own a used G110 with 300 hours (unless mileage was altered). First thing I did was give it the normal service as above. It is fine too, just need to replace the left arm bracket that popped off, which appears to have been hammered back on just to sell it. Both are very strong and running good. I suppose from the reviews I have read all deal with newer models. I guess they don't make them like they used to, or else I have been maintaining the mowers as directed by manufacturer.

I am a senior now and decided to switch from a push mower to a lawn tractor for my fair size lot. Always thought John Deere was the best so I bought a new D110 lawn tractor. For the first year it ran great and was very happy. I followed the maintenance program. I blew my first head gasket at 30 hours one month past my warranty. John Deere said, "Too bad your warranty is up."

Now just into my third summer with 67 hours and blew my second head gasket. Just cutting a normal flat lawn. The John Deere mechanic told me the D110 motor has a design flaw. It is a big one cylinder engine and the power is too much for it to handle so it blows gaskets. That is why they no longer make D110 and now make the D120 with 2 cylinders. The issue is where does that leave the owners of the D110. Be prepared to buy a new gaskets which is very costly every few years. My statement is John Deere you are a big company so when a design error is made such as the D110 engine please man up and help us out.

I am experiencing something that I never had seen happen before in any of the mower we currently own, including our old John Deere tractor mower. The left side hanger that attaches the deck to the lowering handle broke clean, not only that, but also both hangers that hold the front of the transmissions to the frame, also snapped clean, at the same angular point. And incredibly, the large bracket that attaches the right side rear wheel to the frame (a U-shaped piece bolted at 4 points) also snapped clean at the narrower end. All these metal fatigue failures happening at the same moment.

This mower has less than 270 hours of light residential use, less than an acreage flat landscape. The mulching blades are changed every year. The mower deck also show incredibly sloppy welds that required additional reinforcement as the two small travel wheels fell off, cleanly separating at the welding point to the deck front surface. The shop that checked and did the work made mentioned of having seen many of these decks fail prematurely.

In the summer of 2014, we purchased a compact utility tractor with 3 implements, which totaled $28,000 and change. We went with John Deere because of its name and according to advertising, the mower deck was easy to install. My husband is getting up in years and this feature was very important to us. Well, you don't drive up on the deck and click, click it's installed. You have to push, pull, pick up on this heavy deck, and hours later, it's installed. I know this for sure because we had the technician come out to the house a few weeks ago and he installed the deck, which took him about 20 minutes with a lot of pushing, pulling… This gentleman does this all the time and he had a difficult time. Fraud number 1. Fraud number 2... we found out this year because we needed a part for this tractor and found out John Deere doesn't make a part, you have to have it made. “Why,” we asked?

So, we researched further and kind of found out this is really not a John Deere make, but another company. A company overseas... maybe Myanmar. Apparently, this must be legal because the government would have ceased this immediately. So, we purchased what we thought was a John Deere and paid the hefty price, but it really isn't a John Deere. We were under the impression when we purchased this expensive item that it would hold its value. Not true... it will not hold its value. Fraud 3... the financial department. Other than poor customer service set aside, they are fraudulent in these current sweepstakes they are offering their customers. At the end of 2017, John Deere sent us a notice if we went paperless in 2018, they would submit our name every month we went paperless for a drawing to be held January 2019 for a Gator.

In January 2018, I contacted the financial department to find out how to do this. The lady went into our account and updated what needed to be done and we were all set and from that day forward, we were now paperless and our name would go into this drawing every month as long as we remained paperless. In February 2018, we still received our bill in the mail. I called, did this again and was assured we were all set. In March 2018, received our bill in the mail again. I called, did this again and was assured we were all set. In April 2018, received our bill in the mail again. I called and this time a gentleman said we could not set up paperless bills on the phone, but we had to go into our account online and do it that way. I did this, and in May 2018 received our bill in the mail.

Now, all these months, our name never got into the drawing. So, I gave up with these sweepstakes. John Deere is a deceptive company. When I called them last week to address these issues, the lady listened to me for a bit, then asked if I would mind holding, which I did for about 5 minutes, then the connection was disconnected... conveniently?! This is our American John Deere we're talking about... how disappointing! I do not recommend buying anything John Deere. It's expensive and you get no good customer service and possibly fraud. We deserve better than this!

We paid cash brought it home and that's when the problems began. Most of the time instead of starting, it just clicks. We had it looked at numerous times but it was never fixed. We have used it three summers and now the seal on the crankshaft is leaking. We were told it would cost $700 to fix it... I purchased a John Deere tractor, model D130 from A dealer named Finch in Calverton NY. Before purchasing the unit I told them I was going to use it for snow removal. The sales person in the office sold me on the D130 tractor and 44 inch snow blower attachment. I was given also chains, weights. I had them assemble it for me with the snow blower attached, because that is what my primary use was going to be for. I spent almost $5000.00 on this whole set up with delivery. The first time I went to use it, I was excited about having this beautiful machine to move snow with ease. Well much to my disappointment, It did not work at all. The tractor just kept getting stuck no matter what I tried. The dealer came and picked it up when I told them it didn’t work. They told me they found a damaged pulley. They brought it back. I tried it again and it did the same thing. The tractor just would not move. The rear left tire just kept spinning out.

I called again. They picked it up and told me now I needed more weights in the back. They sold me new weight, which I had to purchase. They brought it back again and I had the same exact problem. I called them again. They picked it up. They have it for weeks and told me there was nothing wrong with it. They used the excuse working as designed and told me I must have been doing something wrong. I told the dealer that I wanted to exchange the tractor for a more high powered tractor that would handle the snow blower. I was even willing to pay extra. The dealer's service manager Jerry, told me, “Too bad, we want nothing to do you or this tractor anymore. You bought it, you’re stuck with it.” That they want to drop it off and never hear from me again. Now mind you, I have a phone recorder and am recording all these conversations.

I have tried contacting John Deere direct. I have spoke to Marvin at their headquarters several times. I got nowhere with him either. THIS LAWN TRACTOR IS A USELESS PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. IT DOES NOT WORK WITH A SNOW BLOWER ATTACHMENT AT ALL. The snow blower is way too heavy for this style tractor. This is the biggest piece of crap I ever bought and I will spread the word never to buy anything from this Finch dealer in Calverton. They were rude and not willing to do anything to help me at all. I have no choice now but to go through the BBB and get a lawyer and try to fight this in small claims court. A complete waste of my time. Stay away from the John Deere 100 series tractor if you plan on moving snow. IT SUCKS!!!

What happened to integrity, honor and doing the right thing in business? Last week I ordered a John Deere riding mower and lawn sweeper to help get rid of the leaves and maintain my yard. It was to be delivered Monday! I waited all day, no call, no delivery. I went to Lowe’s to see what happened and found out they just missed it. A $3000.00 delivery of a riding lawnmower and leaf sweeper and they just missed it in mid December in TN!!! Really! How many do they sell and deliver in mid December in TN?

I asked where it was and was told out back. Having never owned a riding mower before I was excited and asked if I could see it. They took me behind the store to a fenced in area and there sat my mower, outside uncovered. It had rained and snowed since they put it out there last Thursday, 5 days ago, no tarp, no covering, just dirty, wet and left to the elements. $3000.00 and it’s outside… WOW! I was stunned.

They rescheduled delivery for Tuesday between 9:30-11:30, at 11:25 they showed up. The metal crate the mower was in was sitting on the 6x6 edge of the wooden crate. The leaf sweeper was in and was 6-8” crooked forcing the mower forward against the metal construct which damaged the hood, emblem and metal bumper. As he was taking it off the crate he pulled a sticker off the right from tire and it had 2 1.5” staples in the tire which began deflating and there was no rep from Lowe’s or John Deere to demonstrate how it worked as in all of the John Deere ads just a subcontractor that said it’s easy, turn the key and use the gas or brake.

I declined delivery and this is where it gets shaky. John Deere store, (Mead Tractors), nor John Deere Corp won’t do anything for my aggravation except to tell me I can get my money back. Of course I can, it was defective and I declined delivery, but if I buy from John Deere what will John Deere do for my aggravation, they reiterated John Deere will do nothing, zero! This local store has no manager, except for the parts person who manages himself, the service person who manages himself and the salesperson who manages himself. There is a regional manager somewhere, but none of them know how to reach him! Imagine, none of them know where or how to reach their regional manager, none! The last response is that John Deere will do nothing for aggravation and poor service and there is no training if not bought directly from John Deere! I would consider a company that stands behind their product before John Deere!

After doing research I found that the D-series is have numerous issues along these lines and that John Deere themselves seem to have become a company of apathy and a lack of quality concern. How cheap can you get on a tractor that runs over two grand. Last month was using the JD 8-yard dump cart and found a huge break in it so I called John Deere and got the nastiest person who said deal with the local distributor.

So, I called my local dealer who asked me did I buy from them and I said no but JD customer service said to call you as you are the distributor, the guy said no deal with Lowe’s and hung up. I have made several calls back to John Deere customer service and was dealing with a supervisor named Hailey who also said she can’t me. My mother bought a John Deere 5045D Series Tractor new from Coufal Prater in March of 2009. It was purchased for her adult grandchildren to use on her farm. The machine has always been hard to start from the beginning. I had to replace the starter after about 2 years. The parts dept. of Coufal Prater said they had problems with those particular starters but did nothing about the cost of $500 to replace.

The tractor only has around 250 hours on the meter. It is only used for shredding a small acreage and to remove brush from time to time. On April 30, 2011 a repairman came to the farm to work on the tractor because it wouldn't start. Replaced connectors and terminals and tractor started but it took a while to start. It would turn over about 10 to 15 seconds then start just like it always did. The meter showed 141 hours at that point. The mechanic said the engine was blowing blue smoke which he said was from the fuel transfer pump going bad. He said it would cost about $1200 for the part but said to wait until it went out at that price.

My son had the pump rebuilt and put back on. The shop that rebuilt the pump said there was nothing wrong with the pump to begin with. The pump was put back on and the keyway accidentally slipped out into the oil pan and damaged the gears. That was a $10,000 fix which would have never happened if I hadn't listened to the John Deere Mechanic.

This being said I was told that they had to replace one of the injectors. The mechanic said that was why it was blowing blue smoke. The tractor was taken to the farm after the overhaul and used several times to shred the weeds then it failed again. This time it would not start. I called a Coufal-Prater mechanic out to look at it. He spent roughly 2 hours and couldn't get it started. My son hauled it into the shop and I was told it had a compression issue. They had to tear it down again and replace the rings, piston, liners, and rod bearings.

The cost this time was $4700. I have the old parts that came out of the tractor and they certainly don't look worn. The mechanic even said he really didn't know what had caused the compression problem. I wonder if I had let the tractor continue to blow blue smoke they would have figured out it was the injector or just replaced the injector pump so they could charge me more. I asked for some help in paying for the compression problem but they refused. At this point I have no faith in John Deere or Coufal-Prater. I feel like I was sold a lemon from the very beginning.

I leased a brand new 7230r tractor. When I agreed to lease it the dealer said if I had any problems they would bring me a replacement machine within 24 hours. 2 weeks and 90 hours after receiving the machine brand new, the transmission went out. I called the dealer and they said it would be at least 4 days because all their loaner machines were already out on loan. Fast forward 2 years and the seal on the front axle failed. I called the dealer and they said it had went out of warranty 3 days before I called and there was nothing that could be done. I asked why it wasn't covered by the extended 3 year warranty and was told that all seals are considered "wear items" and therefore cannot be warrantied. I re-read my lease agreement and verified that I was not responsible for reasonable wear of the machine. I left the seal alone and returned it the following spring with the seal still leaking.

If they cannot cover the seal on the extended 3 year warranty due to the fact that it is a "wear item", then it must not be unreasonable for the "wear item" to have "worn out" by the time it is 3 years old. I didn't hear anything for several months and then received a 1400 dollar bill in the mail to fix the seal. After a lot of run around from several people as well as screaming, I finally got a hold of someone that told me "they word warranty contracts and lease contracts differently. Lease contracts are much more open ended." I told her John Deere has set precedent many times by forcing the customers to pay for wear items because they cannot be expected to last more than the initial two years. I absolutely refused to pay the bill and threatened to call my lawyer. All to no avail.

It was only after threatening to show videos (my neighbor is a hydraulic engineer at Deere) of John Deere Hydraulic cylinders being made on a bamboo table in a dirt floor grass hut in the Philippines that all of a sudden the bill could be forgiven!!! Image is everything for Deere, quality is not a thought. I had a Deere engineer tell me that Deere has traveled the world looking for the cheapest crap they can find to piece their equipment together. Moving forward, the new bosses are looking for not necessarily the cheapest but rather the CHINSIEST crap in the world. They look at it as an investment into the future. A little more expensive to build now, but a lot more parts to sell in the future. Nothing runs like a Deere thank God!

I have run an agriculture business ever since I was a teenage boy. When I began to buy my own tractors, I heard the John Deere had great equipment for work. Upon hearing that, I purchased my first sets of equipment that became the tools for me to succeed in growing my business. In 1978 I began to grow vegetables in 6 acres of land. By 1999 I had bought, in total, 6 John Deere tractors and we had grown to harvest 150 acres of vegetables. I felt very confident when I would buy equipment from John Deere. But unfortunately I was very disappointed when in 2013 I bought 2 new tractors which caused me issues that I would have never imagined.

The way that they had been designed made it extremely difficult to do the work that they were supposed to do, especially the three point system. But worst of all was the mechanical issues that were soon to become evident. As a result I began calling my local dealer (4101 S Moorland Ave Santa Rosa, CA 95407), and they told me that the tractors no longer had a guarantee since the guarantee was only valid for a year. I found this ridiculous considering I had paid more than $56,000 for each tractor. I began to spend thousands of dollars in trying to repair the tractors only to find no solution for the issues that they have brought me.

The dealership continues to tell me "Sorry the tractors do not have a guarantee." Because of this, I am very disappointed with the brand of John Deere, as I had been a loyal customer who trusted and believed in the brand. I would like a response for all of these issues. I am now considering buying new tractors from a different brand because the ones your company provide no longer do the work that is needed for my business.

Purchased a D170 spring of 2015. By the end of the second season the transmission was slipping though. I thought it was the belt. Replaced the belt spring of 2017 and found it was not the problem. Per local dealer, "this is a well known issue with D170 tractors". "The transmissions do not last and will not hold up when the unit is used on hilly ground. I wish we did not have to sell these." Now half through the third season and the unit is useless after 15 minutes of use. Dealer quoted $900 for the transmission plus labor putting the price around $1400. JD should not be selling this junk with known issues in the design. Now my only reasonable course of action is to replace the D170 with a quality lawn tractor, of another brand, when I should still have 5 or 10 years use left in the piece of John Deere "equipment" I presently own.

I bought a John Deere D170 five years ago. The mower currently has 124 hours on it and I routinely take care of maintenance on the mower. Starting last year, 2016, I noticed a decrease in performance especially when going uphill. I have 2x acres I mow and 25% of my yard is at an incline but shouldn't be too steep for a riding mower or so I thought. This year, 2017, I can't even mow a section of my yard that's at an incline because the mower comes to a complete stop. The loss of power when going up even small inclines is very frustrating too. After doing research, I believe the cause of this issue is with the transaxle. The D170 has the K46 transaxle which is 27 lbs and has 131 ft/lbs of torque. From the research, this is far too small of a transmission for this mower and the K66 transaxle should have been used which is 51 lbs and provides 250 ft/lbs of torque.

I bought the D170 for $2,799 and I can now only use it on flat surfaces. The recommendation is to upgrade the transaxle to the K66 which I would have done but that costs roughly $1,600 - 1,800. Sorry, I'm going to buy a new mower at that price. Or I can get the K46 replaced for $700 - 800 dollars and get another 3-4 years before I have to replace it again. John Deere is a company that prides itself on its name and reliable equipment; however, they failed in this situation and lost a customer for life.

The K46 is too small for this mower, its life expectancy if you have hills or use the mower for other things than mowing is short, and you as the customer are now faced with costly repairs or forced to buy a new mower. The D170 and other models impacted by John Deere's decision to use the K46 transmission should be recalled; however, I doubt that's going to happen. If your yard is flat, the D170 is a great mower. Don't buy if you have hills and/or going to use the mower for other things than mowing.

They told me they put a pick-up unit back in the fuel tank and let it run until out of gas with no issues. The charge was $117.85. I brought the Mower home. My wife used it the next day. It ran fine until the fuel tank was approximately half empty then it began to lunge again. I called the field service writer on 6/20/17. She said to bring it back in. I took it back in on 6/21/17. She helped me unload the mower and told me she would set my mower up for top priority and put a different mechanic on it. I went out there on 6/26/17 to check the status and the service writer had failed to even log my mower in for service. She apologized and said she would get someone on it the next day.

So I go back on the 27th. She said they could find nothing wrong with the mower. She said she would go online to (De-Tac) to research for similar reported problems and to give her one more day. So I went back today and she wasn't there. There was a rep from the corporate office there and I told him the problem and asked for a refund since they could not and did not repair my mower. It started out with the steering going slightly left (which was manageable to deal with) but now the mower randomly stops. I have almost fallen off because it has stopped at full speeds, on hills, etc. My yard is about 1.5 acres, and I cannot mow it completely without it stopping at least once. It is not only annoying, it is very time consuming because it takes about 5 minutes before I can start it again. This machine has caused me more stress rather than speeding up my mowing. On April 13, 2017 I was attempting to mow my yard, 1.61 acres, and the mower would start then continue to die when I tried to engage the blades. I called Home Depot and they referred me to the John Deere dealer, Ag-Power which told me it would take two weeks to come and get this mower.

I would have delivered it myself but recently had stomach surgery and was unable to do so. Today, April 28, 2017 a representative from Ag-Power, out of Rhome Texas arrived to "fix" my new mower with only 17 hours on it. The guy walked up to the mower, tried to turn the key on and said it probably needs the valves adjusted without any further attempt to fix it. The guy also said it would probably be about three (3) weeks to get my mower back, due to manpower shortage back at the shop.

Now I am recently out of surgery and having to push mow 1.61 acres for a minimum of 5 weeks with a new John Deere mower with only 17 hours on it sitting in the repair shop. I was told my only alternative was to pay to have it fixed elsewhere, but this would VOID this wonderful two year warranty. I called the John Deere Service and Support department which was no help. He said that he would "note" my complaint, which to me means they're finished with me. Beware of the wonderful TWO year warranty.

I said, "Nothing acting up," that I had changed the oil, new filter and greased it, etc.

He said "don't worry" then each time I would call at next 100 hours till it reached 440 hours had the same response each time I had complained of the cheap seat plastic cracking and tearing bad. After 5 years they gave me a new seat that I put on. Guess what. It cracked in about 3 month. This warranty was for 400 hours or 5 years, whatever came first.

Last year (summer time) we live in the North East Ohio and I bought it new at Moore Lawn and Mower, John Deere dealer, a small town dealer. Then it started not wanting to move. Right after getting worse I took it in. They had in the shop about 2 days fall now, said transmission had a small leak and it's not fixable, needed a new tranny at $800.00 for new one and $300.00 labor installing it.

I asked, "Is this normal problem?" They said no. Humm why me then. So I have a shot tractor now and they want 1/2 the cost of another new one to work mowing. But I don't trust John Deere now. If they would have said to bring it in as stated in handbook. Then this might have been fixable. By the way the factory has no way of adding oil once the seal leaks, hummm warning to buyer's of John Deere. Bought new 8/5/05 (fall), remember only used 447 hours, last used fall of 2016.

Let it cool for a while and it overheated again, and repeated the process about 3 times more and each time it overheated. Took it back to the dealer and they wanted $80 to pick it up but I was able to drive it.

At the dealer they wanted me to pay for a diagnostic test when the tractor was still under warranty, and I refused to pay it. They then informed me that the problem was that the radiator was plugged with grass clippings and that there was nothing wrong with the engine, but they claimed there was an oil leak on the mower. How can the grass clippings get on the radiator when the mower is on the back of the tractor? I left the tractor at the dealership for a few days and then decided that the tractor might have not been a good investment with only 4 months of warranty left, so I wrote them a letter and informed the dealer that I was returning the tractor.

A $2000.00 down payment plus $1487.20 paid to John Deere is $116.24 per hour paid to use tractor. All attempts to get any of my money back were futile and I feel like I have been robbed. Should have kept my old Murray. I read reviews that the John Deere 100 series has had engine failures. Maybe this is why the John Deere 100 series mowers warranty is only for two years. I took it to the shop once to have a more thorough service although was having no problems and they changed my belts, blades and one pulley. The only thing I do not like about this unit is the narrow 42 inch cut and it is slow.

I have done the services myself and have had no other issues with maintenance. Original blades, belts, and pulleys. The only thing that I do not like about this one is that when I am turning no matter how slight it cuts at an angle. The bagger clogs a little too often if grass is damp or I get a small stick or debris. This unit is fast and great to ride? I never mind mowing. Sometimes regret not getting the zero turn though.

Neither unit is perfect but if I were rating just for dependability only I would have to give both five stars. I looked at some of the reviews and wonder what they are doing. Within a week or so, we got a notification that there was a recall to replace the Oil Filter, of which we went and picked up. At that time, a couple hours on the Gator we noted to the sales person, Curt **, that the machine seemed to shift hard. Hoping it would work its way in, JD "Lakeland" did nothing to investigate, adjust or repair.

This past week I took the Gator in for service for this same clutch/transmission issue and it was noted by Lakeland that a NEW clutch assembly and belt was needed... Gator has 134 miles and 44 actual run hours. Although it is out of Warranty, I had expected JD to acknowledge this issue that has been very prevalent on a number of Gators and cover or at least discount the service required. Invoice was $854+... With 44 hours, no obvious abuse, I expected that John Deere would step up to the plate and correct this installed design issue at NO CHARGE.

In addition, I, Rick ** also purchased a NEW X730 Signature Series Tractor for over $12,000 a couple months ago. This tractor just had its first recall to install an updated software issue to deal with the override backup switch/button. I delivered to Lakeland this past Saturday for the update, with no service delivery or travel to my home residence required. I was excited about the purchase of both of these machines, but now am very concerned if I can expect this lack of attention with this equipment I expected to be top of the industry and brag about. Not sure now. If John Deere, Moline, would step up and honor this known performance issues and reimburse my $854 I may be able again to talk up JD, service and quality. Let me know if you wish to win a customer or lose myself and others. Thank you.

That's 900.00 for a new one. I think I got a lemon. It's no way both transmission should have went out like that. Beware from getting them from home depot. I am so disgusted with it. The price I paid for 2 transmission, I could have gotten a new riding mower. I don't know if the transmission can be repaired. They say no nut. Why do they sell parts for them? After talking with to John Deere Customer Relation Representatives today, they confirmed that they are unable to assist or stand behind their product. They are a big company name with zero customer care. John Deere product is junk and their customer support department is so so sad. Solution: We just bought a brand new Toro for 350.00. Delivered my new XUV 590i Gator 2 days ago. Swapped my new Gator 625I back in to the dealer that I only had for 3 weeks. The 625i lacked the light kits, power steering, and it was way too noisy. Dealer allowed me exactly what I had paid for the 625i. Tested the 590i and liked everything about it. Little smaller than the 625, power steering is great, helluva lot less noisy, goes 48 MPH, fancy wheels and tires, and has all of the deluxe turn/stop/tail lights.

I did read in another XUV 590i post that their 590i had a sort of growling noise upon deceleration when near a stop. This one does the same thing. Probably just a function of the drive train. Also noticed that the engine RPM's on this machine are quite high. Appears to run upwards of 5000 RPM on the road and in the upper 3000 RPM range around the property. Just seems a bit high... We love the flip-out windshield too. My only issue is the access to the engine and components. Really tight. Oil changes might be somewhat tough as you have to crawl under the machine to access the filter and drain plug. Fortunately I am not heavy so I do fit under it okay. Probably use ramps to raise it though. So far we are pleased with the unit. Will post another follow-up after we have used the 590i for a few weeks.

The pulleys on the drive are made of plastic. You can on replacing them after 50 hours at the cost around 70 dollars. What a surprise - just for the parts I should have a different brand for half the cost. I thought paying more money for a commercial mower would be built better. I guess the joke was on me. I would not recommend this mower for the price. Go to your local home improvement center and save your money.

I bought a D105 mower in May 2014 for my disabled mother and father. In May the warranty ran out. One month later and only 30 hours on the mower and the transmission broke. They said because dirt was inside of it. The Five Points John Deere service dealership in Hillsboro said they had four others with the same issue. Sounds like a manufacturing issue if dirt can get in there and break the transmission. I called John Deere and was told sorry we can't help you. It's out of warranty. I am completely dissatisfied with John Deere and will never buy one again. Will also spread the word on social media. John Deere needs to make this right. My case # is **. I bought a John Deere because I heard they were the best. This is not the case and the way the customer service supervisor spoke to me in unacceptable.

Called John Deere and the first thing they tell you is that it's out of warranty, they then ask me to take it to an authorized dealer and gave me a case number. Well the service tech just called me and advised that they did a leak down test and that my mower was at 60% which is bad. I could have opted for a less expensive brand, but the yellow and green attracted me as this brand was suppose to be superior. It does not do the job even when we mow more often. The LT166 is a superior mulching mower - why would you want to change a superior product? When I was in need of a much larger tractor for my residence, I went to the nearest John Deere dealer. Everybody was great in the store and very helpful. I walked the lot of about 15-20 of their JD 1025r series tractors (all of which were the 2016 yr models). I went ahead and made the $18,322.20 purchase but being I also purchased two of the attachments (to get the JD offered rebates), they said that they needed to get parts from another store because the attachment they had in stock didn't have everything. I REALLY didn't think it would be a problem, so I went ahead and signed the note with a delivery scheduled 4 days out.

Well, on the 3rd day, I received a call from the delivery guy saying the tractor was ready and he could deliver early if I was available. I said "awesome!" But when it arrived, parts were different than the model I looked at (I hadn't put it together yet that it was an older model). Parts were rusted, seat was very moldy/nasty, broken/severely cracked part on the mower deck, chips in the bucket arms, etc. I noted everything I saw in the first 5 minutes to the truck driver. I didn't have to sign anything, so he jumped in the truck and left. I took another 30 minutes to go over the tractor and took note of the serial number. I found out from it that it was a 2015! It had 3 hours on it (which is a lot for a "new" tractor!).

I called the sales guy and told him my issues. He said he didn't get a chance to go over the tractor (They delivered a day early!!!). He said he could get the broken and chipped parts repaired or fixed. He also said that the serial number was just indicating that it was "manufactured in 2015" but that it was the same tractor that we looked at, "it just had some different parts because John Deere changes it up". He said he needed to talk with his manager (who was out for another two days). I waited the two days and called back but he said he was still out. So I called the John Deere corporate support and filed a claim. They said a manager would call me within three days.

Well, it's been a week and a half (since I filed the complaint) and I haven't heard from anyone. I'm not sure what the next steps will be. I've never been put in a situation like this. To me, it's a breach of contract because it isn't what I selected. I'm just an average Joe and probably don't know any better, but $18,000 for a lawn tractor is no joke to me.

I have a 1999 LT 155 that I have taken exceptional care of. Always garage kept and tuned up annually. I have spent more on maintenance, repairs and parts than my initial purchase price to keep it going, but I'd expect this after 17 years. The mower itself still runs strong and performs perfectly. My complaint lies in the hood design and replacement parts. After about 10 years, the plastic hood split where you pull the latch open. I decided to replace it with a new 'top' portion of hood which ran about $300. I could tell the replacement skin was a thinner plastic and much more brittle compound but what choice did I have. After about 6 months, normal usage and opening the hood caused the hood to again split right down the middle. I'm told by my local service department and dealer that JD has eliminated the 'catch' for the hoods so it opens more easily and removes the pressure point. This to me is a work around for a poor quality part.

Flash forward to now, I bought a tune up kit to change the oil, plug, filter, etc. I opened the hood and as I leaned it forward, both plastic hinges crumbled and let the hood come crashing to the cement falling all apart. Any first year engineering student could tell you these plastic hinges are a horrible design and combined with the poor plastic compound used was a recipe for disaster. I called the local service dept and Corporate John Deere Quality to register my complaint. I knew the 'warranty' expired long ago, but I think this more of a design flaw with poor quality and poor materials. I just wanted to formally register my complaint.

The local service department also said this is a common issue and the reason why you see so many JD's riding around with no hoods. A. They had the same issue as I and B. The whole hood is about $1000 to replace! I would think JD would recognize this flaw, make corrective action and choose to remedy this rather than experience sincere complaints such as this one. I love my John Deere, but this experience puts a bad taste in my mouth.

When I put back the oil cap I did not turn the cap correctly and my oil leaked out. About a week later I didn't think to check. The oil made it to the front of the house and engine died. I checked the oil and to my dismay the oil had leaked out. I have always had to screw the cap on the oil shaft. John Deer needs to change the cap to one that screws on, would have saved me a bundle.

I am a woman so how was I to know the difference. I realized there were two small openings on each side of the cap. I keep my mower clean and covered up and well maintained. One guy checked it and told me it would cost $800 to fix but I felt that was too high so he came down to $600 which I refused to pay that much. Ordered one on internet from Lowe's, got a great deal and $300 rebate. Still going to check around for cheaper repair and maybe sell it. It looks brand new. This was my fault and not John Deer's fault. Satisfied customer.

I have a 1986 John Deere 185 Hydro yard tractor with a 38" deck and a Kawasaki engine. I've had to replace some parts, but that doesn't bother me, things wear out, and it is a strong, on-frame tractor with a strong transmission and good design. Conversely, I had a neighbor that was moving and I bought his JD 110 yard tractor with a little over 100 hours. I had to repair the deck as the junky tension pulley mount had vibrated apart - not a big deal, I can weld, and I made it better and stronger. The deck is bigger, it had a more powerful Kohler engine in it, and it was faster. I could cut the 1/2 acre lawn in much less time. I thought I had a great deal. Then the engine wouldn't start. Replaced the ignition module, but it made no difference and just backfired when I cranked it.

I found out that the new Chinese made Kohler Commanders JD is using have serious problems, and are junk, not expected to make it to 300 hours. The case is cast aluminum, it's so thin that it cracks along the corners and then blows the oil all over. Mine hadn't cracked yet, because it wasn't old enough, but the camshafts are made of nylon and the teeth on mine stripped and jumped time - causing the backfiring. There are 238 hours on this tractor, I put 125 + or - on it after I bought it, and the engine is not worth fixing. The body is not painted, it is powder coated, except for the hood which is green colored plastic. Like the example in a previous post the green powder coat is peeling off mine in large sections. The rust gets under the powder coat along the edges and travels underneath until it will all come loose.

I parked my 185 hydro to use the new tractor when I bought it, and I'm glad I kept it. The 110 has had less than five years of use, including the first owner, at 50 hours a year, with proper maintenance, and it's junk. I am now using the 30 year-old tractor again, with the tires and other things I could salvage off the 110. John Deere has become the biggest junk dealer in our economy. Literally, no other manufacturer is making the junk they are and getting away with charging the prices they do and providing the horrid service they are. My neighbor paid 1400 dollars for this piece of junk. I paid him 400 and feel I paid too much. I will run my 185 until I can't fix it any more, and then I'll buy something that isn't yellow and green, unless I can find a low time 1980's tractor.

I had all the seals in all the cylinders replaced on my tractor and equipment. Now the cylinders went bad in the front bucket, they pull out the one year warranty on those. Even though they replaced all the seals up until now, the minute after the warranty expires you pay for them again. They will never admit they have a problem with seals on the tractor, they just wait until the customer begins to pay for them. And calling customer service, like Nicole or Ramona, you may as well talk to a stone. The more money they deny to customers, the more they keep in bonuses.

Lawn Tractor X 320, made 2007 - The reason I put down 2007, this model has had a complete design change. All the remarks I make are about the older version of this model x 320. I purchased this mower new. It has a Kawasaki 22 hp Motor, is a 48-inch cut, with 3 blades... If you want a good heavy duty mower, buy one of these. The blades are very thick, the design of the newer mowers has a one handle drop down deck. It steers like power steering. It has great power and I can mow 2 acres in under 2 hours if I push it.

Just have to have your yard designed so you are mowing grass and not mowing around flower beds and bushes, pick up all the junk in the yard before mowing, and if you live in the South, knock down all the big fire ant mounds before you roll over them. Clean your mower after each mowing and keep it under the shed and watch for rats and mice. They will nest in the motor housing in the winter... giving you fits in the spring, caused me a lot of headaches. Use clean fuel and don't leave old fuel in the mower over the winter. Change the oil and filter as recommended or sooner, the air filter too. These are musts. Sharp blades are important. I have 4 sets, they are kept sharp.

THE ONLY PROBLEM WITH THIS MOWER IS BELTS THAT HAS BEEN REDESIGNED, THANK GOODNESS, they are expensive. If you take care of your mower it'll be ready to go... One headache, a new fuel pump was put on at 300 hours. It was hard to find this problem. If it starts surging while mowing, look to the fuel pump. If you buy a lighter mower in the L series expect problems if you have a big yard.

I have a John Deere D140 ride on mower that has done 80 hours & the transmission has failed. Taking it to a local dealer who has serviced it the last 3 times informed me it would cost up to $1500. They say the unit is out of warranty in time, but what my question is if it only lasts around 80 hours it is not designed for the purpose it was purchased it for. After talking to Melbourne office then to Queensland office, the comment was we have nothing to talk about. It is out of warranty. John Deere this is the last time I will purchase anything for your company.

Throughout the operating season of 2015, the John Deere D100 began experiencing issues that seem to be related to the transmission. During a normal course of lawn mowing, I found that the tractor, when placed in neutral, seemed to be locked, and would only move forward and back unless manually pushed. During the week of November 1st, the rear underbody of the tractor began to smoke while in normal operation using the cart feature. On November 4th, I removed the mower deck according to the D100 manual instructions, loaded it into our pickup truck, and dropped it off at the JD Power/John Deer dealer in London, Ohio for repair.

On November 9th, I learned that the tractor had been delivered to a JD Power location in New Albany, Ohio when Tom (a service technician) called me to update. I spoke with Jeremy Service Department Manager-London; to find out why the tractor had been moved to a new location without my knowledge. Jeremy agreed through my questions that he was the person who directed my tractor along with 9 others, be shipped to New Albany without having called the customer first. The following day, the tractor arrived back in London per my request and I met with the London location general manager along with Jeremy. Jeremy confirmed that the $400.00 transmission unit, which was no longer under the two year warranty as of June of 14, was leaking fluid and would need to be replaced.

I explained that I expected to and would be involved in meeting with the service employee, or at least a representative, to discuss the mechanical problems in person when dealing with an $80.00/hour rate and $400.00 transmission on a tractor purchased new in 2012. Jeremy never apologized during our conversation for not verifying with me before loading the tractor onto a trailer and driving by highway 38 miles to New Albany.

On November 9th at 10:16 p.m., I registered the problem with the John Deere Customer Contact Center website (**) which indicated I should receive a response within 24 hours. On November 11th at 3:02 p.m., I was contacted by George **, John Deere Ag & Turf Division, Customer Service, USA & Canada, 17 hours past the 24 hour deadline. Mr. ** advised he received the information and would look into the problem. Mr. ** phone number as provided on his e-mail is 888/522-1177, ext. **. On November 10th, I sent a detailed e-mail message to John Deere Field Representative Don **.

On November 12th, Mr. ** said he had communicated with Mr. ** and offered for John Deere to cover half of the repair expenses. During discussion, Mr. ** said my share of the expense would likely start at $200.00, but could be more. I expressed my feeling that this was not a reasonable offer and declined. I intend to retrieve the tractor from London on November 17th.

I originally purchased a John Deere LT 133 used it for many years on flat ground. Then purchased a new home and needed to run up-and-down a few hills, That's when I noticed the loss of power in terms of momentum the mower was able to go up a hill. Replace the drive train belt and it seem to do the trick for Half the summer when the trouble began again. I then purchased a used LT 160 with an automatic transmission, I used it twice tomorrow and realized that I was having the same issue with loss of power on hills and even small bumps getting in and out of the shed where they are stored out of the weather. At this time I started investigating the drivetrain and transaxles on the rear of the LT series mowers with the sea 46 unit. I found that they were continually going bad with less than 500 hours in most cases on the unit.

The dealer was great help (Lol) when he came to repairs that would cost over $1000 and upwards to $1700. I found that a K 66 unit was a much better unit to replace in the mower by talking to the original maker of the original transmission unit. And so after reading comment after comment on the LT transaxle and drivetrain unit, John Deere has known apparently for a long time that the product they used for the rear end in these mowers would fail in many cases after just a few hundred hours, mine itself has only 345 hours I've heard of others that I've had 200 or less and others that get up to 500. This seems to be unacceptable and most John Deere owners eyes but John Deere at least in my case seems to be turning a deaf ear to the reoccurring situation of their tractor. So it makes me question why am I buying John Deere and have been buying John Deere for 30 years.

The dealer says that it is a sealed and unserviceable unit which will have to be replaced at a cost of $1,000. The other service and repair items that they recommend cost another $1,000. This machine should not fail with so few hours and light use. I now find out that the Lowe's John Deeres are not "real John Deere", so I shouldn't have expected it to last. The dealer tells me that "getting a couple hundred hours out of the unit isn't bad". I think that it is criminal.

I purchased a John Deere D105 in 2013. Within a month the transmission had to be replaced. It took almost 2 months to get in repaired. I finally had to call John Deere Home Office and before the end of the day I got a call from the dealer telling me my tractor was ready. Fast forward... Sept 2015. I now have 130 hours on the John Deere. Guess what. I now have to replace the transmission again. John Deere offered to supply the transmission if I would pay $250 in labor. Which I agreed to do.

I will not mention the dealer's name, so I can relate what the mechanic told me. He said the transmission is mostly made of plastic and that I would be back again in the future. His advice was to get rid of it. So I spoke to the sales rep, but did not tell him my tractor was in for repair. I told him I had a D105 with 130 hours on it. What will you give me if I trade it in on a more expensive tractor? He blew my mind when he told me he would allow me $200 on a trade in. I paid approx. $1500 new. That is when I knew I had been really screwed for buying a John Deere. So, today I got my tractor back and decided to try in out. I have hills that are about 10 degrees, not really steep. I now find the tractor will not climb the hill. I called the dealer who offered to come pick it up tomorrow, no pick up charge. So, this story is to be continued.

I have spent almost the cost of the mower in repairs. And of course they charge for pick up and return every time it's taken in for repair.

The last time it was in for repair it was returned still broke. I will never buy another JD again! I have had other less expensive mowers that have lasted twice as long as this Deere. John Deere would not replace the engine or the mower and did a poor job with the engine repair. It leaked oil and finally after the fourth time in the shop they finally stopped the leak. I used it about 3 years and it broke down again. This time someone from the dealership knew how to work on a lawnmower and for the first time it ran like it should. About 3 years ago I bought a LA175 because I thought JD made a quality product and I mow about 3 acres lawn. I was wrong. The first year I didn't have any issues however since then things have gone down hill - only about 350 hours of use. The mower is kept covered in a shed out of the weather. Last year I had a gas tank issue - 4 tries getting a proper tank. The original design was such that if you are large person (I weigh about 250) and don't have a smooth lawn the frame will bounce and sits the tank on top of the drives cooling fan and after a while will "drill" a hole into the tank. Of course this creates a gas leak. When I discovered that I ordered a new tank, over a $100. Of course if want part numbers to diagrams you either order a manual or go on line searching. The new tank was exactly like the old and lasted about 2 weeks.

Was not happy. Called John Deere and of course we have never had a complaint like that, no recalls, etc. Had to order a 3rd tank. Sine I realized what the issue is I was designing spacers to lift the tank. The new tank came in and was a totally different design. Went back to the dealer, they ordered another and the same thing. Both of us was very upset. The parts person went back and talked to a service tech and they found a tech note about the change in design. The redesigned tank was correct but would not mount because the new required mounting bracket was not included with the tank and of course extra. I finally have the new tank installed. I was very happy with the dealer during this process.

Since then I have had to replace front wheel bearing/rim, the steering is extremely stiff, and now I have a seat switch wiring issue - the connector fell apart. Of course you can't find a wiring diagram UNLESS you PURCHASE a manual. I anticipate minor issues and the replacement of maintenance type parts. I feel this mower is very poor quality. As a result I would not recommend John Deere to anyone and consider it the poorest investment I have made. I have a middle of road Craftsman that was purchased before the LA175 that is more reliable - mow and blow snow in winter - and has had fewer repairs. It even came with diagrams, wiring drawings, and complete parts list.

Received the mower back and had a good year until last mo. July 2015 when the front right wheel fell off (broken cheap metal). I was having trouble with the, "kill bar" as they later called it, had a new pull cord installed and the wheel replaced. They told me that they found no problem with the motor stalling when the drive bar and kill bar were engaged (which just tells you they didn't try hard enough to find that) and when I returned home I tried to start it up. The motor started and the cord flew out of the casing. They made me bring it back in and wait 'til fixing it. The guy said that they'd given the job to a new guy (THANKS for your favor and thoroughness at $60 plus dollars an hour or basically, a physician's asst.'s wage).

I noticed right away that the motor would begin to choke off at times still so they did nothing for me there. Yesterday the motor shut down sporadically when the drive train was engaged via the handlebar. I had to lock the bar and push mow the 2nd 1/2 of my yard. I bought a John Deere CS36 chainsaw. John Deere does not make chainsaws and outsourced this product. They stopped supporting the product and no longer offer parts. They refuse to provide any information on the manufacturer although the common part I need is used in numerous models and likely still available from the manufacturer. Their dealers have the same problem and don't know what to do.

My advice is to never buy a John Deere product they do not manufacture. They don't support outsourced products and don't want you to identify who made them. They frequently switch vendors which makes your model obsolete in terms of support. Different models of the same product are outsourced from different manufacturers. They outsource most home and small industrial products like chainsaws, lawn tractors, etc. Forget the label. Go with someone who continues to manufacture their own products and supports them. Otherwise, you will ultimately be stuck when you need replacement parts.

I called them with these issues not wanting to further damage whatever was wrong. The first thing out of their mouths was "Did you buy the extended warranty??" I said "No. This is obviously a problem that was overlooked when set up by your so called specialist. Why are you asking about a extended warranty when the mower has 1.6 hours on it and already having issues."

And I was told my choices were then, to either trailer it 60 miles to their Backwoods facility to be looked at or pay $85.00 to have their specialist a chance to fix what was botched on the original setup they performed. Now tell me is that what you call standing behind your service and the product you did the service on. I cant believe what I'm hearing.

I think they are trying to make that extended warranty cover their poor set-up job or else they will make the money either way charging you the $85.00 service call on a three week old mower, when it says in their letter they will come to you service the product is not convenient or possible for you to bring it to them. This is where the phrase buyer be wary came from. It's products and service like this. Boy what a screwing I got right out of the starting gate. Every year after that it broke down. I believe I had this mower for 7 years now. It would run then it wouldn't run. Come to find out the carburetor needle was made from plastic.

John Deere did correct this with a brass needle. I replaced it myself. I have to put high octane gas in it still. Why? My car isn't that picky and cost a lot more! The solenoid went bad and now the transmission is leaking. It doesn't like to cut well either. I won't take it back to the dealer for servicing. I can't afford them. No thanks. It only once needed to have the throttle adjusted because it wasn't letting enough fuel through. After that adjustment, it worked perfectly again. I have always done the routine oil changes using the recommended oil from John Deere. The dealer has also delivered the mower to my farm for free when I couldn't pick it up myself. The mowing speed is also pretty fast, with an 8 mph top mowing speed. Going that speed, it still takes 3-4 hours to mow my yard. Mowing once a week, I've put on well over 600 trouble free hours on this amazing machine.

It's very stable in ditches due to it having a low centre of gravity and having a wide wheelbase. It also doesn't do bad on fuel, which is good when fuel prices are up. Cleaning the mower isn't hard either. The hardest part to clean on the mower is the underside of the cutting deck, but that only needs to be done once before winter so it's ready for the next summer of mowing. All in all, it's a very capable machine and I would recommend it to everyone. It might be more expensive than others, but you get what you pay for and it's well worth it.

My D120 John Deere lawnmower is just over 3 years old (bought Mar 2012). It is stored in a shed, so it's protected when not in use. My aunt was graciously mowing my grass on 6/19/15, when she ran out of gas. She turned off the mower, leaving in the backyard, while she went to buy gas. When she returned 15 minutes later, the fire dept. was already on site; witnesses said the mower burst into flames and then exploded. There is very little left that isn't metal. The heat scorched a huge circle around it, as well as two large trees.

John Deere's response, after determining that no one was hurt, was "I don't know if anyone will call you back. But if you want to mail a picture to the legal address, you can do that. But I can't give you a phone number. Oh, and I don't know if they will contact you either." Guess I won't be recommending John Deere anymore!

New pulley, new belt that time. (The belts are now 41.00). I have purchased many belts over these summers and waited until someone could put it on for me.

Had to haul it in last fall, same problem. Got it back and used once before it threw it again. Called them to come get it that time. Never used again because it was winter by then. I have mowed 9 times this spring and it has already thrown the belt twice. It is back at the dealer again. Usually costs between $200 and $300. Such a lemon. Just a bad design on the deck. When we went in this last January, the salesman no longer worked there. The company said the trade was to be the mower, with only 64 hours, plus $3500.00 to get the new mower. We have traded to a new mower other years with John Deere dealers in other towns, and it was never this high. We purchased this mower brand new from Sinclair with a sale price tag of over $11,000.00!

However since I purchased my John Deere LT 133 and knowing that buying green means buying quality then finding that after a few years of age the plastic hood breaks into pieces just by looking at it funny then finding there is no recall or accountability by JD at least offering owners a decent discount to purchase a replacement hood really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Before the hood exploded on my LT133 I also purchased an LT155.

Both of these machines are garage kept. Deere wants $394.00 for a replacement top and bottom hood. I think that is just outrageous. What could possibly be the cost to make these parts? I work in customer service for a well known world company. If I told someone they had to purchase a part (even if only cosmetic) after spending the purchase price, knowing it's a defect we would not stay in business. When the plastic breaks it leaves sharp edges that someone could get hurt on it unless you just disregard the entire hood and run mower w/o hood. I would think that Deere could do better for their customers on this one.

The 25 HP, 2 cylinder Kohler was slow breaking in. Hard starting was the biggest issue I had during break-in. But, once the engine got through the break-in period it became much easier to start. It starts easily now. The mower does a very good job of cutting and leaves a yard looking very nice without leaving windrows as some of the older models did (the LT133 in particular) if you aren't bagging. It rides well in rough terrain. My biggest concern with Deere is of the consolidation of dealerships. I've noticed that when the smaller dealers are swallowed by the larger ones the quality of service goes down. It's still best to find a family-owned dealership for service and parts.

If I had a complaint it is that there is no tranny fluid drain on my L130. First of all, quite a bit of paint is peeling off the deck. We've only had this for 3 years. Now it's smoking and making a loud noise and vibration like crazy. I think it might be the drive belt but they'll charge me an arm and a leg to fix (the part only cost about $18.00). No, I would not recommend a LA115 Hydro-static John Deere Riding Lawn Mower.

Have checked everything I can, have contacted JD customer service support on website. No help, now got to take it to a local dealer. There is no quality engineer I can talk to, there is no way for me to find the manufacturer, there is no source I can speak with in the design area to help me figure out if it is technical or not. I spent $2k of my hard earned money and JD could care less........I think it may be a fuel injector or carb issue but not certain without an expert. BTW the dealers in my area get the convenience of working Mon - Fri 9 - 6pm so forget talking to someone on a Sat or Sun. Just perfect

I bought a used x320 with 60 hours from my local John Deere dealership. It worked perfectly until hour 177, then the transmission had an immediate catastrophic failure. I brought back to the dealer and they agreed, it was broken. Their only solution was to replace the whole transaxle at a cost of over $1200. After I complained about the failure with so few hours, they offered to help with the repairs and brought the estimate down to $1030. Instead of paying John Deere, I bought a motor shaft for the transmission, from Tuff Torq for $14.01. I replaced the shaft and now it works again. I would have given 1 star, except that the dealer did try to help.

I purchased a LA175 for $3300 just over 3 years ago. At 50 hours it quit running. I took it in and they had to replace the stater, the spindles, and the bushings. Kinda surprised me at 50 hours when I mow less than 1/2 an acre of flat ground. So now at 96 hours the mower stopped running. I called the local John Deere dealer Meade Tractor and asked what they charge for a diagnosis. I was told $78. I thought about this more and called John Deere and they said to take it in for the diagnosis and call them back. Diagnosis is faulty needle valve. I was told the repair would be $300 est. So they called today and said they had my mower ready and luckily they found an old needle valve to fit it and all I owed was $300. I tried to tell this girl that I disputed this and what I was told a new carburetor for $300. Her response is "oh well, it is what it is". Never ever will I buy anything John Deere makes.

Before I owned a $800 MTD that lasted 10 years and sold it for $300.00, I thought I would buy my last mower as one that would last 20 years. Thought John Deere was quality. Called John Deere to see if there was any relief to this outrageous cost. A car transmission cost about the same and this is just a mower. Mow about 1 acre and do not pull anything. No help! I do not mind paying a repair cost since the mower is 10 years old. But $1000.00! Last John Deere I'll every buy!!!

We bought a brand new expensive Z425 EZTRAK 54-inch new mower from John Deere and after 107 hours of mowing a tiny flat lawn, the connecting rod and crank shaft broke and there is a hole in the side of the engine. I am very disappointed in the John Deere product and even more disappointed in the almost $1600 bill to repair the mower. This will definitely be our last John Deere mower. Imagine a car engine failing after 107 hours! Wow. We could have bought a new mower (not a John Deere) for $1600 and I am very sure it would function for more than 107 hours. Our old Ariens mower mowed a much larger lawn than this for many, many years and never gave us any problems. It makes the John Deere mower look pathetic. Of course the John Deere mower is PATHETIC. DON'T GET SEDUCED BY MACHINERY THAT IS PAINTED GREEN. OUR MOWER RUNS LIKE A CRIPPLED DEER.

First of all I have a problem with the steering set up. The steering gears wear out yearly, the idler pulleys are constantly going bad, the paint on the mower gets a little scratch in it and begins to peel because of water getting behind the paint and begins to rust causing the paint to peel. I always thought John Deere was suppose to be the best, well so much for that idea. I think they would last and look better if you didn't use it. I have had mine since 2008 and have had nothing but trouble. The whole steering set-up needs to be redesigned, there should be grease fittings on all pulleys and idlers. Of course this is a way John Deere makes money, selling parts. Well I hope they enjoy it because this will be my last one.

Checked blades for looseness etc., could not find anything. Cut some grass and the vibration was even worse. Now remember this machine is less than 12 hrs old from brand new. Phoned a John Deere dealer about the problem and he suggested that I return the machine and exchange it for another one, may have gotten a lemon. Phoned Home Depot and they agreed it may be a lemon and to come in and exchange it for another. I will do that tomorrow and see how that one works. Anyone else have a similar problem?

John Deere model Z915B - I purchased the zero turn mower new in March of 2014 from Builders and Sharpening in Cherokee, Iowa. From day one the right front wheel doesn't touch the ground at least 75% of the time when mowing. I called the dealer immediately when I operated it the first time and complained and all they said is they never heard of anything like that. I complained a second time and told me that I should bring it in and they would look at it and I asked if that would be covered by warranty and they said no they would have to charge me shop time to figure out what was wrong. I told them it wasn't going to happen!

The third time I called, the service manager told me that if I wouldn't bring it in so they could charge me for something that should have been a warranty item, that I was going to need to shim the frame to bring that front wheel down. Apparently, he doesn't know the mowers well. The holes on the frame need to match the holes on castings and I wasn't about to drill anything out to un-match what the factory had done. The mower has 70 hours on it and whenever I mow, I have a hump pattern on my lawn.

John Deere LA175 Riding Mower - This mower was purchased several years ago based upon the John Deere Name. Since this mower was purchased, it has been one problem after another. First, the throttle has had to be replaced twice, and it still does not work right. The problem is when the handle is pushed wide open to cut lawn, the handle creeps down and will not stay in fast idle. Second problem is the steering rod/shaft, the steering wheel would not turn the front wheels. The mower was taken to the local John Deere Dealer to be repaired (over $250.00) about a year ago, AND the same problem is starting to happen again.

Third problem, I have has to replace (2) spindles also. Fourth problem, the deck paint has been coming off for over two years. I have a HUSKY from Tractor Supply that is over 11 yrs old and have had to only replace (1) drive belt, and the paint and mower runs great, and is my go to when the John Deere breaks, which is almost always... I feel and now know that the John Deere only wants a sale and will not help fix/replace any parts or labor once you take the mower home, because they say that these problems are general wear and not cover by warranty.

My first JD lawn tractor was an LT155 that I bought new from my local JD dealer. I had it for many years and the only problem was with the hood which cracked and then broke. The hood damage was probably due to my not being more careful mowing around trees and other obstructions. Other than that no significant problems during the entire time of ownership. When I got rid of it and bought my X300 from the same local dealership, I gave the LT155 to my sister and it is still going strong for her. I have had my X300 for a good many years now and have over 800 hours on it and it has not been to the dealer for repair until now. The steering wheel on it suddenly locked up and it is very difficult to make turns. I can't say much about this after all having over 800 hours on it with no repair is really amazing. I am going to take it to the dealership this morning for the repair. I do regular service on the mower and always use only genuine JD oil, filters, parts, etc. I am very well pleased with the JD lawn tractors I have bought and with my local dealership.

It was 30 years old when the blade spindle pulled through the deck. Naturally, I bought another John Deere, who wouldn't right? Well the paint started cracking and peeling away at the seat mounts and spring mounts for the seat and has continued to peel away in sheets. Then, last fall while cutting my grass for the last time that season, the mower quit pulling and I had leave it at the bottom of the hill. I had to pull it back to the carport, after placing the the trans in tow mode, of course. The TuffTouque trans in that mower only lasted 160 hrs.

Dealer was no help, they actually got defensive when I complained about the paint saying it was a residential grade mower and should have been washed and dried after each use and stored in an enclosed building when not in use. When I went to the dealer about the transmission, they told me the transmission was not serviceable and had to be replaced and John Deere would not fix it. Even after I told them about the many complaints I found about the trans being defective online, they were no help. The trans was $750 from the dealer just for the part! I found a new trans on eBay for $500 and replaced myself and working on the repaint now. I can make this thing last as long as the transmission keeps working but I won't replace it again and I won't buy another John Deere!
