I purchased a 27,000 dollar 1025r tractor from John Deere. It took me seven years to pay it off. I paid it off last month. I was so excited. Now I'm just devastated. I have just found out that there is a design flaw in my model that cracks the air intake and destroys the motor. Not once in the seven years that I have paid on this tractor did I get one letter, notice or phone call about their design flaw. Well now my motor that only has 247 hours is blown and John Deere is refusing to fix my tractor. 247 hours guys!!! Don't you think that if they had informed me about the design flaw that I would have taken it to John Deere for them to fix this issue..
This is a John Deere issue. They are refusing to take any accountability in this issue and are saying that if I pay them 18,000 dollars they will fix it... This is not my fault. My serial number is even on the list of tractors that this issue affects. John Deere does not care about the small farmer and has no ethics. Now I have no tractor and no way to farm... I am devastated to say the least. Will never buy John Deere again. I'm at a total loss.

About 3 years ago, I had finally purchased a John Deere riding mower (e140). My previous riding mower had mowed its last blade of grass after 14 years of excellent service. Though it was not a John Deere, I was impressed by its performance over the years. At the same time though, I was excited. I immediately knew I wanted a John Deere riding mower, not just because it would be a new mower, but because John Deere was synonymous with quality and ruggedness.
I spent time shopping around, sitting in different models to find the right fit and finally decided on the John Deere I wanted. I purchased the John Deere; it was delivered to my home, and it rode smoothly and cut well. I thought it was worth the wait…at least at the time I did. The mower handled well enough; however, at the end of the 2nd year I had it, something happened I couldn’t quite believe.
I was mowing as I usually do and stopped to make a turn. When I stopped, I could suddenly see and smell smoke. I realized the bottom of the mower was on fire! How long it had been on fire, I did not know…as the smoke and smell could’ve trailed behind me as I was moving forward. I immediately shut off the mower and got off. I saw flames underneath just behind the front tires on the frame. I tried to blow the flames out, which didn’t work. Fortunately, I was near some loose dirt and threw handfuls at the flames, smothering whatever was on fire with the dirt. Fortunately, this worked, and the flames were extinguished. After the smoke cleared, I tried to look underneath to see what had caught fire. This fire had apparently burned for some time, because the left side of my left knee had touched part of the frame, and it had burned through my jeans. So now I have a quarter size burn scar on my left knee from the burn I received.
I looked underneath the mower and discovered the wiring underneath had caught fire. I was dumbfounded. I had no idea how this could’ve happened, but that section of wiring was all burned away. At this point, the mower was inoperable. It wouldn’t start, and I couldn’t even get any kind of reaction when I turned the key.
I contacted a number in the manual, which was no help…just a lot of recordings sending me everywhere else if it wasn’t putting me on hold. I was finally redirected to a John Deere repair person “near me”. After speaking with him, I found that some parts may be warrantied, but the labor could cost near the amount of the mower. I’d only had the mower for 2 years at this point. What’s the point of a warranty if it’s going to cost as much as the mower to fix the mower??
I said as much to the repair person. He suggested that I could save time and money just rewiring it myself, as he said that’s “probably all it needs”. Well, since the repair guy said it…I tried to bridge the wires where they had burned. That didn’t work. I can get a click when I turn the key, but that’s about it…oh yeah, and the lights can turn on now too. So that was the help I got for a brand-new John Deere riding mower that caught fire on its second year in use. Now it just sits in the pole barn. I use its gas tank to hold excess gas in the winter in case the generator is needed in a power outage. So essentially, it’s a very expensive gas can with headlights.
I feel extremely disappointed and let down by John Deere. My experience was that there was zero ruggedness, and zero quality. If I think about trying a John Deere again, that itch on the scar on my left knee is there to remind me not to. I’ve since purchased a new riding mower…of a different brand, of which I am very happy with…especially since it hasn’t caught on fire!

I bought a zero turn and decided I wanted a bagger. So I ordered one from one of their dealers. It’s an awful design and blew stuff all up over the front of the mower. I called the dealer and talked to them about it and they said they thought I needed this other part as well so I spent another hundred dollars on another part. Totaling $1100 at this point. I told the guy at the dealership, "I’m really concerned about on it, and what do we do if this doesn’t work?" He assures me that if it doesn’t that they will take it back. I get the new piece in and we put it on and it’s better instead of blowing up over the front stuff is blowing out underneath from both sides.
I called them up. I told them what’s going on and that they need to take it back, they are real flippy floppy about it and said they would talk to the guy at parts. The guy parts calls me back today and tells me that I can bring it over and they’ll look at it but it is used so it depends on what condition it’s in, and there will be a 25% restocking fee. None of these things were mentioned before! Because John Deere can’t make a quality bagger, and the dealership doesn’t stand behind the product and gaslight me the whole way through I end up losing money!

New John Deere S120. Only 3,000 dollars and the tires were flat from the first use.. John Deere said the tires do not have a warranty. The official site says it has a two year Bumper two Bumper warranty. The tire company did not care. They did not spec two ply tires. After fighting with Home Depot we purchased new tires. The problem was the cheap Double Ply tires were flattened a dozen or more each use by weeds. Another problem with my other L110. The design of the fuel system was designed by an idiot. I will let you figure this one out.

My John Deere Zero Turn works fine, when it's working. It's not working too often though. Maybe a couple of weeks to a month or so till it breaks down again. John Deere parts are expensive to order, if they let you order them. Dealer prices are much higher. I get after market parts whenever I can.

I purchased a John Deere S100 from Home Depot back in June. While I was pleased with its performance at first, it broke down with only 9 hours in it. The blades wouldn’t engage. It appeared as though the cable had a defect. When I called one of the nearest JD licensed dealers, they told me JD does not include transportation costs as part of their warranty. They quoted me $795.00 just to pick up and return. Meanwhile the part is only $35.00. BTW: I live in the southwestern part of Connecticut - not some remote corner of the country. When I called JD’s corporate HQ they said they stood by their policy. I told them I was never informed of their policy (the purchase was made on line). I also told the rep that the machine had only 9 hours on it and it was a manufacturing defect. To no avail.
BTW: I spent close to three hours on the phone. Had I known about their policy I never would have made the purchase. I learned from a JD dealer that the company had shut down their independent licensee dealers which is why the three closest dealers were all more than an hour away. This was very disappointing. I’ll never purchase a JD product again.

My John Deere X580 has been a great mower until this season. 480 hours on it. John Deere corporate made my local dealership close the doors, so I had the big local John Deere agriculture company pick it up and service it this past February (2024). This service special was a tune-up, oil change, sharpen the blades and assess the critical parts. When it came time to mow this Spring, the battery was dead. Understandable, but should have been load tested during the service. Then...the blade drive clutch quit working. Back to the shop. July of this year, the thing lost a blade drive belt. Back to the shop for both belts, new blades and whatever else it needed. Used it three times and for undetermined reasons, it shredded the blade belt again. I don’t think I’ll buy another John Deere.

Initially, I was going to purchase that Yellow/Black mower (wish I had). I purchased my JD mower from Home Depot. 1st mistake. It was delivered dirty, covered in grass, and dirty handprint stains from putting together. And the sensor under the seat is not even attached. Home Depot was of no help, They didn't care. The sensor continued to fall out and would do so while mowing for it would stop. The CSR at our local JD dealership has been my only help. Finally took the seat in to find the problem was because of shoddy work from the factory. They came up with the idea of a strip tie to fix the problem (I Hope). This piece was not under warranty, it had only been 4 mo. Long story short, I would never purchase another JD, and I simply could not give a good review. It is a lot of money for a defective item and no customer service!

I bought a John Deere S100 from Home Depot. After it was delivered I got dressed and was planning on using it. When I engaged the blade it made a horrible sound and sounded like blade was hitting deck when it was engaged. I checked and it was not. I called Home Depot who told me if I’d bring it back they’d exchange it. I had no way to get it there and they refused to deliver a working mower. I finally had to call my ‘local’ John Deere dealer and they said they would come and get it and diagnose the problem for a $90 fee, since I didn’t buy it directly from them. It sounds/seems like the blade spindle or spindle pulley is warped. I am not happy with Home Depot refusing to replace it unless I brought it back to them AND that they sold me a defective mower. Disappointed that John Deere is charging me for their defective machine repair pick up. Likely they will try to charge me for repairing a defective device.

We purchased a mower 3 months ago. The belt broke on the mower. My husband called Lowe's, because we purchased it from them. They informed him that he needed to contact John Deere. They also said that the belt was not covered under warranty. My husband bought a new belt and put it on the mower. The mower ran for 20 minutes and the belt broke again. The spools the belt goes around we're excessively hot. This is a problem john deere is aware of. This is why they don't cover the belt in the warranty. It is the mechanism that turn the belt that has the issue. Needless to say we now have a brand new piece of Junk that we have to pay 315.00 dollars for to be "fixed". Never again will we purchase anything from this company.

We purchased a John Deere lawn tractor And a bagger on Saturday March 9th 2024. The price was $3012.25. We were told it would be assembled on Monday March 11th and we could have it delivered anytime after March 11th. We picked Sunday, March 17. We had a delivery time 8 am to 8 pm. We got an automated phone call saying our time window was 1 to 5 pm on March 17th. We waited the whole time for them to come, at 5:05 pm I called Lowe's because we had no DELIVERY. After being on the phone the awhile I asked for the store manager Anthony **. He never got on the phone he was busy. The assistant manager Tiffany then told us it was never assembled.
They use 3rd party assemblers, they worked 8 to 2 and they were supposed to come back and never did. Now we had to wait until Monday, March 28th for them to assemble it (they only work on Mondays). Told them we wanted it delivered Wednesday, March 20 afternoon, husband had an appointment in morning. My husband was staying home from work that day. Next thing I know they scheduled it for Friday, March 22 instead of Wednesday. I had to call the store again, was on a long time.
Finally I was scheduled for Wednesday. We got the night before automated call gave us a window time 1 to 5. Wednesday morning comes and we are in the car heading to appointment the delivery people call said they will be at the house in 20 minutes. I told them we were scheduled 1 to 5. They didn't care they changed it. Immediately called the store, asked for store manager Anthony ** but he didn't get on of course. The assistant manager Jason gets on. I explained what happened, told him to cancel our order. We were so fed up at this point, we were made fools of. They also use a 3rd party delivery truck, Lowe's has no control over them. The assistant manager Jason said if we want to come back in he would make sure everything was OK and discounted whatever we bought.
We waited a few days and went back on Saturday, March 23rd 2024. He was on vacation. A department manager Joe helped us, we showed him the tractor we wanted. It was on display outside getting wet, it was down pouring. He checked, they had 7 in stock and the bagger. Now if you look online it says if you purchase today it can be delivered Sunday, March 24th. But that is not true he said. The assembly people won't be in till Monday, March 25th. We could have it delivered Tuesday March 26th. We agreed. He walked us to appliances where a salesperson rang it up.
So our new John Deere tractor and bagger were coming on Tuesday, March 26th 8 to 8. AGAIN MY HUSBAND TOOK OFF FROM WORK. We never got a an automated phone call with a window time. I called numerous times to check to make sure it was being assembled on Monday, March 25 to be ready for delivery next day. I was told the first time they had 20 grills to assemble first. Joe department head said he would call me later. No call. I called back, spoke to salesperson Lindsey in appliances who rang up the sale. She did go check and said, "Yes it was all done." I thought this would be the end of this nightmare but NO!
Next morning I was leaving to go put my grandkids on their buses, my husband was home waiting. I get a call on my cell from delivery they would be at our house in 30 to 40 minutes. When they finally came and dumped the tractor off it was dirty, no instruction book, 1 key and key was in the on-position drawing battery. It was also the outside display model. It had footprints and a sale sign on it. My husband recognized it because of a few marking. He called me and we did a merged call to Lowe's. The person at the desk that answers would not put on manager and kept asking what we wanted. We just wanted a manager, SHE HUNG UP!!!!
We called back and got an assistant manager Danielle. She said it's the first she heard about this and would get back to us. I had just arrived home and we went to store with pictures. Asked to speak to store manager Anthony ** but he wasn't in. They said he was on lunch then in a matter of 3 hours, he was gone for the day. He never is available to help a customer. Now they want to pick up the tractor they left today tomorrow. The assistant manager Danielle wants to come at 7:30 am tomorrow March 27. That would mean my husband has to take a quarter day off to wait for it. I said, "No, WE ARE NOT TAKING A DAY OFF AGAIN FOR YOU TO PICK UP THE DISPLAY TRACTOR YOU DELIVERED. They are not bring the replacement either tomorrow. They need that tractor back before they can assemble the new one and deliver it."
Danielle was supposed to call me back, never did. I called after dinner, she is gone for the day and Anthony the store manager is gone for the day and assistant manager Tiffany is interviewing people. A sales guy Chris called and said the pickup is scheduled for Tomorrow March 27th. I asked about the new replacement tractor and bagger, he said he had no idea, he would have Tiffany call me. She has not called, the store closes in 3 hours. I called again and she is still busy. No one cares and they lie. We spent a lot of money and have been made fools of.

They were supposed to be left and right but they were both right so I could not finish assembling the unit so l called John Deere and I was told that they can't send me the right part because it had to be returned within 30 days of purchase. I bought a John Deere Model e160 riding mower through a dealer (United Ag and Turf) about 3 years ago. My decision to buy a John Deere product was that its brand had a longstanding reputation for quality and reliability. However my experience did not align with their reputation. After only 41 hours of use, I could not get it to turn over. I followed all of the recommended maintenance and couldn't imagine what the problem could be. Not having any way to transport the mower to the dealer, I had to rely on the dealer to transport it to the shop for repairs. The transport cost alone was $200. I was told that they suspected that there was some bad gas in the fuel-line/carburator - which was cleaned out by the dealer for about $500 (including blade sharpening).
The same gas that I used in this mower I used in my push mower with no problems. The repair was effective, but I continue to question their assessment. A few days ago, the plastic parking brake handle broke off in my hand when I tried to engage the brake. Again I called the dealer - who said I'd need to pay the excessive transport fee to get them to repair it. So I've decided that I just won't use the parking brake - and I'll never recommend a John Deere product.

I bought my LA 135 tractor from an authorized dealer 12 years ago, back when this company still made a good product and stood by it. The tractor has run smoothly for all those years with only minor repairs needed. This week, I had to replace a mower deck lift linkage rod and deck trunnion that had somehow dislodged during mowing operations. I ordered them from the Deere website under the search term "Parts LA135 tractor". When I received the parts, they were incompatible with each other (the rod is supposed to screw into the trunnion) and lacked a necessary lug nut, washer and cotter pin. The new rod is slightly smaller in circumference than the original one and so the trunnion couldn't screw onto it, rendering the parts useless.
I called Deere's customer service line and the slacker wasn't even interested in my order # or what the parts were. She just told me to call the dealer. So I called the dealer I bought the tractor from, and the slacker there basically told me, "tough **, you should buy a Husqvarna." The problem with this company, as is the case with so many once-great American companies that are now failing, is the lack of quality employees, and a too many entitled Millennial slackers who lack any sense of responsibility or work ethic.

At ~70 hrs white metal top link broke; cost to replace ~$150, ~$35 at Tractor Supply. ~20 hrs later white metal clip holder for top link broke as well. Didn't bother checking price. At ~250 hours gearbox for mid mount mower blew. Replacement cost ~$350. At 375 hrs rear drag arm (which lifts mid mount mower) broke. Original part, inadequate in design, would have cost ~$40, but the JD engineering interns, realizing their error (one of many) developed a “new, improved” replacement costing >$450. Front drag linkage also started separating from mower deck, needing re-welding. At 440 hours ignition switch needed replacement (I also have a >80 yo Ford 9N with OEM ignition)! The 1023E has been sheltered as above.
At 800 hrs, the front axle sprung a "leak" due to bad wheel bearing and seal. I was told the wheel bearing failed due to heavy loads in front end loader, which can't lift more than 500#. (JD claims this is a tractor, I think it is a cost-cutting prototype. the Ford 9n still has OEM wheel bearings). I purchased a zero turn mower (Z345R) from Lowes in 2020 for about $3000. I get the mower home and noticed that there was a odor. It smelt like incomplete combustion. I called John Deere and was told to take it to one of their dealers which I did. The dealer kept it about two weeks and said it has an odor but was running fine. I got the mower back thinking it was fine but as months went by the smell never went away. I took it to another John Deere dealer and it was discovered that the carburetor was bad. I had it replaced. It cost me $500. I had purchased a Powergard Protection plan but they refused to pay. I will never buy another John Deere mower nor Powergard Protection plan. That's my thought.

Took 4 weeks to replace and by the time we got it back, we were past the 'return' period so when it came back and wouldn't cut in reverse, we were SOL. Fast forward 2 years later with just 16.8 hours on the mower in total and the transmission breaks. Not covered by warranty because a small stick broke the drive belt, which then caused another issue. A small stick. So you're telling that the big bad John Deere tractors we grew up hearing about being so tough can't handle a stick? Cost $1,000 to fix an $1800 mower. So disappointed in the experience I've had with John Deere's products. Selling the mower to mitigate my losses and avoid future expenses and going with a Cub Cadet or something. Anything else.

STAY AWAY! We had great service when we went there to purchase our tractor with nine attachments and a farm boss chainsaw. The chainsaw never worked from the start and it had a broken trigger. I took it in to get repaired via the warranty. It took them over a month to repair the chainsaw, and that was only because I called to inquire why it took so long; they told me it would be a couple days. When I picked it up there was nothing said to me. A few weeks later we were called for the bill of the never working, broken trigger.
We were able to clear that one up with no issues. Then we set up the warranty work of our tractor which we were told that it was part of the contract. However, that was not the case. You get a 10 year warranty, but in order to have that warranty valid you have to get an annual inspection done to the tune of $301 plus. During this inspection, the mechanic found an item that was needing to be fixed that was a warranty item. Instead of fixing it on the spot we were told it needed to be scheduled at a later date.
We called to scheduled the warranty work, and I later received a call to actually set it up. The lady wanted a credit card to do the work, but when I mentioned that it was warranty work she put me on hold and came back with the fact that it was indeed under warranty and did not need a credit card because it was covered. The repairman came out and did the repair and left without anything being said about any bill.
Fast forward seven weeks later and we get a call that we owe money because of the warranty work. When asked why, the guy came up with the fact that the labor and parts were covered and it was a trip charge. However, he totally skipped past the fact that the service person did not perform the repair when he found the discrepancy. We received the itemized bill showing that the labor was in fact not covered so we are paying for trip and service. When we received the annual maintenance, there was no charge for "trip fees."
I am totally disenchanted with James River Equipment, and will no longer consider purchasing anything further from them as was in the works. Their service department is unacceptable! We bought over $26k of equipment, and was considering over $20k on additional equipment. However, the excellent experience of the sales person will not make up for further horrific treatment from their service department.

Unfortunately, after 4 years, I had to sell it and can't give it a great review. It's a fun ride, but I had a lot of problems with it. Among other issues, I had a lot of issues with it stalling, and not even just on tall grass. I called their customer support a few times over the years and never found them very helpful. Admittedly, I'm not very handy. Dena **. AG-PRO COMPANIES. John Deere 9200 NW 13 Street Gainesville FL 32653. On September 10, 2019 we purchased a John Deere E170 riding mower from AG-PRO, a John Deere dealer. At first, everything was fine. However, with just 85 hours on the hour meter, one of the blade spindles seized and its housing broke. Since the mower was still under warranty, we called the dealer on June 21, 2021 and spoke with Andria. She said we needed to bring the whole mower into the dealer and not just the broken parts. Because we have no way to transport the mower, they would charge us $152.60 to transport the mower to and from their shop. However, since they were very busy, it would be at least four weeks before they would be able to pick it up.
Although Andria said she would call me back to see what she could do, she didn't call back until after I called the John Deere company and spoke with Braden who gave me a case number. However, she still was not able to offer any help. So my 70+ husband with health conditions found a video on YouTube and was able to fix it himself. For $130.00 he bought 3 new spindles and installed them on the mower. When I asked if my case could be given to someone else, Braden was not at all sympathetic and just said no. When I asked for his supervisor he refused to even give me the name. On June 24, 2021 Andria said she would see what the company could do. She never called me back. We sent a letter to the CEO of John Deere, John May. Other than a form letter, I still haven’t heard back from the dealer, Ag-Pro, or the John Deere company. I would not recommend this company. Our next mower will not be a John Deere.

My folks bought an X350 riding mower in the spring of 202I, but I'm the one who uses it to cut their grass and I maintain it for them. I have never used such a poor quality mower in my life (I'm 56). Their previous JD was a P185 that lasted 30 years and still worked, but was long in the tooth. JD's quality is now non existent. The cut quality is pathetic, in part due to the fact the deck has the rigidity of tissue paper. I can literally remove the deck and carry it under one arm with ease....did I mention I'm 56!? They went to a two blade system from three, so it leaves long clippings that often need raking (same cutting frequency as before, so not a case of leaving grass to grow too long). The blades are no longer mounted with bearings, but instead use a cheaper greased shaft arrangement. You can't engage the blades with the brake depressed which is a problem if you're on a bit of a slope.... This compromises operator control.
The RIO switch must be depressed every time you engage reverse or the blades stop. This is easily defeated by shunting the connector, but then you don't have an RIO at all....should have an ignition position like Cub Cadet allowing temporary override. They use plastic idler pullies on the drive belt system....yes plastic. But, the trigger that started this review was my experience with the digital dash display. The display fogged up during operation making it impossible to read (I'll attach a couple pics), so it was sent back to the dealer for replacement. The new display is worse. This apparently is common. The dealer said they took a chance replacing the original because JD's policy is not to replace them until they literally form water droplets inside the display. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? They charge a pretty penny I'm sure for this garbage feature that's impossible to read after a few minutes of use.
Fortunately, there's a dummy light for the fuel level. For decades mechanical indicators and dummy lights worked flawlessly...at less cost, but now we get this modern "high tech" garbage. Suffice it to say, the dealer won't replace it again until water droplets actually form under the glass. I'm a former Kubota owner and while I realize they can be more costly, you get superb quality. A few extra dollars for a product that's enjoyable to use, reliable, and long lasting is money well spent in my opinion.
If I was trying to stay in the JD price range, I would consider Cub Cadet (made by MTD) as a better option as I have used one of their larger mowers and was far more impressed. JD's 100 series riding mowers use a quick change oil system that leaves up to 30% of the old oil in the engine which basically makes these disposable mowers. This is the standard of quality JD has adopted. This is also the company that recently bragged about having the highest paid employees in the industry. No surprise there given the prices they charge for their products. Simply put.... STAY AWAY FROM JOHN DEERE! Good luck. Cheers. Note: The first pic is the replacement display (labelled New Display) and the second pic is JD's threshold for replacement (labelled JD Standard).

I bought this riding lawn mower in 2018; THIS WILL BE THE LAST John Deere I will ever own! 2 years old and ONLY 25 hours, my husband was moving to the backyard to finish mowing, keep in mind our lot is less than 10,000 sqft, the mower like backfired then just quit working. Our lot is very even nothing unusual, we have always changed oil and serviced it and was well taken care of being always sheltered in the garage. We took the mower in to our local John Deere dealer and the service guy said the mower blew a rod, it would be cheaper to replace whole motor at a cost of $1,100 dollars!
The service guy (who is great by the way and very knowledgeable) says, "You know this mower only has 25 hrs on it, YOU NEED TO CALL JOHN DEERE and they really should cover this because after 25 hrs it shouldn’t do this!!!" That was the beginning of the customer service NIGHTMARE! We called, filed a claim then after 4 weeks and calling them 2x a week they are now denying the claim. No explanation, and we had to hear this from the service guy NOT John Deere. They don’t have the decency to even call to tell you. We called the customer service to ask why it was denied and they’re blaming the dealer that they made the decision, they’re the ones who told us to call! We checked fluids every time mowing and changed oil after 12 hrs of service, they are saying must have been lack of lubricants, TOTAL BULLCRAP!

I bought a John Deere Z335e zero turn about 2 years ago and this will be my last John Deere. I’m not even sure why I’m writing this because my experience talking to the customer service department they could really care less. But I guess it may help somebody else by not making the same bad choice. Since my purchase I have had to replace the deck that was bent “$700”. I thought it was just a bad adjustment but later learned the spindle was twisted. I have a smooth yard and have NOT hit anything. Besides this was a problem since day one. I’ve also had to replace the lifting cable twice now since it breaks at the deck and that’s a real plan in the butt to replace. The rear muffler shield had broken off from the vibration causing cracks at the weld. It’s basically been a lawnmower from hell. The last John Deere for me!!!

John Deere seeing that the fender was dented (2 years ago) has stated that they will not replace the transmission due to it being damaged when the mower slid into the tree (did I mention that this happened 2 years ago?). This is not my 1st John Deere mower. All have had transmission issues, normally I get 5 years out of them. 1 mower the transmission only lasted 2 months. My yard is not that treacherous. I would not recommend a John Deere mower with a hydrostatic transmission to anyone and I have no confidence in their warranty, I do not think they stand behind their product.

Out of ten attempts, he manage to get it to fit twice. "We will have a look at that" - result? -no change. Until recently, I thought the name John Deere meant quality equipment and quality service. Having about 7 acres of land to mow, several spots require weed eating. In 2011, I visited the local John Deere dealership and expressed to them my need in purchasing something I could load up with my weed eater and drive the 7 acres instead of walking. They suggested the Gator. I happily purchase a brand new 620i John Deere Gator equipped with a Kawasaki 2 cylinder motor. I only used my Gator about once a week during the mowing season, so I had only accumulated 105 hours of use.
About 2 months ago, I noticed that it was missing badly. So, I called the local dealer and told them what it was doing, and they suggested I bring it in for inspection. I loaded it onto my trailer and hauled it in. About a week later, I called them to see if they had identified the problem. I was told that the 620i has a problem with short runs, which was known when I purchased it but I was not informed at the point of sale, and that the #2 cylinder did not have any compression. I was given two options, spend 3,600 for a rebuilt motor ow 3,800 for a new motor. I felt that John Deere should bare some of the cost since the problem with this model had not been disclosed to me when I purchased it.
After numerous visits and phone calls to the local dealership and receiving no satisfaction or solution to the problem, I contacted the John Deere home office. After numerous calls again, I was told by them that there was nothing they could do since the Gator was no longer under warranty. So prospective buyers, beware of the pitfalls of purchasing the John Deere Gator. I also have a John Deere tractor which I purchased 3 years ago and use very little. I just pray that I have no mechanical issues with it. This once John Deere enthusiast is now a John Deere skeptic.

I turned it off then on a few times and smoke from the engine went flying out for about 5 min! It's under warranty but I have to take it from West Point, UT, to Tremonton, UT. I'm a single gal. Not sure how I'm going to get it there. The problem is pretty big. For a new machine, it has oil seeping into the cylinder from the valves, which fills up the cylinder over a week's time causing a lot of smoke and running issues upon startup. Great hu? Bought a new JD D-155 Mower from Home Depot. It now has about 550 hours of use and started to be a headache after only 150 hours. The drive belt on the mower deck has fallen off 6 times. I check the oil level each time before using. The air filter, oil and spark plug have all been replaced at the beginning of each year (purchased in 2016). It is kept clean and hosed off after each cut. It is very hard to start when cold. The mower deck drive belt fell off, again, when I removed the deck I found that a bolt had sheered off after replacing it and refitting the deck the belt snapped again.
Being totally disgusted I brought it to my local JD Dealership and was just informed that the idler pulley and deck spindle need to be replaced! Together with an oil change, labor, belt and parts it will cost over $360.00. Keep in mind it has only 550 hours, has been well maintained and is being used on level land. I bought the D105 Ride-on Lawnmower because I was always told that once you own a John Deere you wouldn't want anything else. Well, that was a load of crap. This lawnmower has been maintained since the first oil change. I have had in the shop 3 times for multiple problems. The tires are worthless! I really believe that the parts on this tractor are brought in from China and assembled here in the US. It is a poorly made machine. If you need it worked on, I don't suggest taking to a dealer repair shop because they know nothing about working on them and their customer service is non-existent. I call it customer NO Service.
I have had to have the wiring done twice because the original job done by the dealer's repair shop screwed up the wiring on it. I had to bring it to a local lawnmower shop and they finally got the wiring right. I have asked for mulching blades twice while in the dealer shop and they conveniently left them off twice. Once again, I brought it to the local repair shop and they installed the mulching blades for me. My Walmart Ride-on lawnmower was put together better than this and ran like a champ for 10 years. I will NEVER purchase another John Deere tractor if it is the last lawnmower on the market. I will just let the grass grow instead. I rated the Tractor 1 Star because 0 Stars for customer service and overall product was not available. You must be proud to build such a pile of crap! How do you sleep at night!

I purchased a John Deere 155c lawn tractor in 2006. I carefully maintained the tractor for the last 13 years. In the manual on page 26 it clearly states that the transmission needs no maintenance. I found this odd since any other lawn tractor I’ve owned required the fluid be flushed approximately every 3 years and the filter replaced. The John Deere transmission is sealed. However the instruction to not maintain the transmission is false. This year my transmission has lost power after 30 minutes of use. I changed the main drive belt to no avail.
A quick search of the internet depicted a much deeper problem. The transmission oil, motor and pump have worn down. I took the transmission off and dumped the oil. It was black and filled with filings. The new oil helped but the problem persists, the transmission has to be re built. It will cost me $800 Canadian just for the parts. This would not have happened had I changed the oil every three years. A call to John Deere did nothing they refuse to acknowledge their error in the manual nor will they reimburse me for the parts. If you have a John Deere lawn tractor, you must change the transmission oil or it will fail. I am so furious that I would like to start a class action suit against the company. The internet is full of stories about John Deere transmissions failing. I will never buy a John Deere product again and I advise anyone thinking about doing so should look elsewhere.

I purchased a John Deere D155 lawn mower and the oil cap came off. The engine now needs to be replace. The incident happened inside my warranty time however, I didn't make my claim until 10 days after my warranty expired. If John Deere can find a way to deny your claim they will! I also want to say I believe the oil cap design is the problem. "No locking oil cap!" I was driving my John Deere and the oil cap loosened up causing oil to come out.
I since then have called a John Deere in Poulsbo, WA where I m tried to explain. Wow, the person hung up on me. I tried to talk to a manager and "Magnus" was not much better stating out of warranty and nothing he can do. I then decided to work with Washington State's largest dealership and I was quoted 1 month just to look at my machine. I since have been working with "Marvin" at John Deere customer service. He has proved to be quite difficult to talk to. He was accusing me not putting on the oil cap rather than the oil cap backing off. To sum it up, John Deere has horrible customer service skills choosing to argue than resolve, and a faulty design of the oil cap. I was in heaven and now I can officially join all the retired guys who seem to have the Deere as their status symbol of being retired. Unfortunately, my Z-245 sprung an oil leak after only 6 years of use, and at the same time, one of the pistons quit firing. I took it in and the cost was $932.00. I had it serviced only 1 1/2 years ago, and that cost was also well over $500.00.
This all was more than I expected, and he did say that he was sending me a 35% off certificate for any parts that I might need. I said that I hoped that I wouldn't need any, and he said that he also hoped the same thing.
Truly, this will also be my last John Deere that I will own. My next-door neighbor has had his J.D. for 20 years, and I don't think that he's ever had it in the shop, just servicing as needed himself. I guess that they don't make them like they used to. My wife and I bought a house in 2016 with a yard just big enough to require a riding lawn mower. I debated on what brand to purchase and ultimately decided on purchasing a John Deere. After less than a year of use, I was informed of a recall on the transmission which I had gotten taken care of immediately. I was also informed that after 8 hours of use the oil needed to be changed, which I did. I store the lawn mower in the shed throughout the year and being in Pennsylvania, the grass gets cut 4-5 months out of the year.
Last week (about 33 months of owning the lawn mower) the engine blew out and left a gaping hole in the side where the starter attaches. The repair is a brand new engine ($800 total with labor). I took the mower to a service center and I contacted John Deere directly only to be interrupted and spoken to very rudely by their customer service person. They indicated that the lack of lubrication was due to not changing the oil, which I had, and they are not willing to help in any way. Lesson learned - I hear John Deere is a respected brand, but I guess that is when you are dealing with bigger farm equipment. I would not recommend a John Deere after my experience.

They said that it would have failed sooner if the spindle was not tightened correctly. My uncle does not operate the mower for the majority of his use... So that actually fits with his analysis... We should get a refund.
Then the replacement deck failed due to a crack at a weld. The same guy said that if it was a design or manufacturing flaw that it would have cracked at the weld... Duh... It cracked at the weld! John Deere lawn tractor or snow blower?? If you want a nightmare, go for it! The John Deere lawn tractor and its snow blower are the worst products I have ever got! And the John Deere customer service is the worst one I have ever had! I bought this John Deere lawn tractor D105 from Lowe’s and its snow blower from its dealer Green Tractors by its sales recommendation. Both products were broken almost every time when I used them. Within one year, many of their parts, including the battery, belt, grip, handle, spring, pins, rod, took turns to break, and finally the D105 engine was broken in the early second summer! In the winter, I could not finish even once for a completed snow blowing. I eventually had to ask to return the snow blower.
After a long battle, the dealer finally took back the snow blower, but with my big lost. I paid them $3161, but got only $1745 refund. John Deere, its dealer Green Tractors, and Lowe’s refused to take back the crapping D105. They point their fingers to each other. Lowe’s told me I have to deal with John Deere. Pull switch that engages the blades went bad.
Purchased the replacement rocker switch. Was told that JD had lots of problems with the pull switch, so they now supply a rocker switch and adapter replacement. Called the dealer and told him that he gave me the wrong unit...Nope, it's the right unit...Just John Deere expects you to take a flat file and open up the hole so that the replacement fits.
Well, I don't know where to start with this total cluster FUBAR. As an engineer of 33 years and having spent some time in automotive Mechatronics product development, DVP&R and PVP&R is part of the process (Design and Product validation). Hello... Like most of the homeowners here, I have been mowing lawns way before before I could legally drive motor vehicles...(legally is the keyword). The X350 John Deere lawn tractor is my subject and some comparisons to other brands I have owned and used. Over the 65 years of mowing I have experienced many types and brands. Way back when the "Hahn Eclipse" Briggs powered reel type mower was the best, through the push rotary era and now the riders (age induced). I have owned and used many brands and have always returned to the Deere line, with the X350 is my latest ride. Overall, the operation and quality has met and exceeded my expectations.
The non-Deere purchased parts used in assembling the unit are of top quality and can be easily serviced and all machines will need service. The driving, even though it is manual steering, is effortless and accurate... The foot operated deck raising feature is great as it allows the operator to raise the deck to save the hose you missed getting picked up or over the neighbor's lost golf ball. The quality of mowing the "48-in. Accel Deep™ Deck" does the best of any I have ever used. I have owned several Cub Cadets over the years because I thought they had the best decks, I know now the Deere "Accel Deep™ Decks do a much better job bar none. The Zero Turn craze hit me too. I purchased a new "Hustler Raptor SDX" (zero turns are GREAT MOWERS if that what you need) and realized that the zero turn units were not made for all lawns and operators. I could not ever get used to the operation and was able to sell relatively fast and went back to the Deere.
Overall, the Deere X350 has all the moderate sized lawn caretaker needs. It will last as it is one tough unit (better than any goat and does not require a pooper scooper). My life has given the opportunity to own and operate Simplicity, Cub Cadet, Zoro, Craftsman and many others and here I am, back with the Deere. Service any unit as it should and it will last you. One thing to remember, regardless of the brand, the unit is no better than the service that can be provided. All machines need it and it the unit is not working because of "LACK" of service. It is useless. Good mowing and be safe.

Never seen a piece of equipment deteriorate with all the maintenance I give it, I have to admit that the engine is solid but as the chassis goes what a piece of crap. I never paint without removing rust, grime or anything else that will keep the primer from bonding to the metal. Always using top brand of primer and paint. You would expect excellent results, right? Well no. The metal is so cheap that your labor don't last at all just to find another area rotting away. This machine is a 1995 purchased in 99 from a dealer in Dade County Fl.
The trans had to go thru a major repair due to the use of rubber hoses instead of galvanized pipe or copper to run the hydraulic oil and not one sensor to indicate low oil. This machine is the worst I have ever worked on and operated. Made in Mexico and it shows it. I have worked on other brands - Komat, Cat, etc. and they are a very big interest in how they are build. Hope this helps to anyone looking to purchase a backhoe, if you could afford it buy a Komatsu or Cat I prefer the Komatsu.

I have a JD2520 bought 7 years ago with less than 500 hours. Use mainly for snow blowing and mowing. It needed a new hydraulic motor and once that was in they said it needed a hydraulic shaft, part #LVA802614. Surprise!!! There is not a hydraulic shaft in the whole United States that they can find and it may be "3, 6, or 9 months, who knows" verbatim from the dealer. They don't care and gave me the part number to see if I could find it. I can't find it anywhere either. I can't believe a reputable company like John Deere does not have parts for their own machines. What a waste. Now I sit, stranded with no machine, and nothing I can do about it. They actually asked us if we wanted to trade it in. Why??? Because you can't get a part I am supposed to pay more money for a different machine. Guess I'm out the $18,000 I paid for it.

I purchased my LT133 from a local dealer which is no longer here. I have never had a problem with the engine or the transmission. I have had this John Deere Lawn Tractor for more than 39 years. In the last 8-10 years I have had some problems most likely due to age. The deck still works but lost both guide wheels and the mulching unit is screwed up but it still cuts grass. Replace the starter motor, brakes, belts, and have had minor problems I fixed myself. I will only purchase a JD from a dealer and pay the extra to get a good machine not like the ones sold at Lowe's or Home Depot. I know if I have problems my dealer will take care of it. I see a lot of bad reviews but I contribute that to purchases made other than JD dealer and purchasing cheaper made models.

Several years ago I bought a 1994 JD LX178 lawn tractor. It got the Kawasaki 15 HP, twin piston, water cooled engine and a 38 inch deck. It's still running beautifully today (2018). I replaced the cheap plastic hood with a steel hood from a craftsman GT and recovered the seat in leather. In July of this year, I bought a 1998 JD445. Yes, it's 20 years old! I had to clean out the gas tank to get it to run properly and I replaced the seat. This is a wonderfully comfortable mower with all the hydraulics and differential lock, and power steering that I need in my old age. The 22 HP Kawasaki engine is fuel injected and being liquid cooled, I expect another 20 years from it. The 300 pound, 60 inch deck makes great time out in my fields.
My suggestion to buyers is this: Buy a garden tractor, not a lawn tractor... These are heavy duty machines that can handle light abuse. Look for bearings (not sleeves) in the wheels. Look for zerk fittings on the spindles and other wear points. Get a tractor that weighs 600 - 1000 lbs. Practice your haggling skills to buy right. Be prepared to travel to pick up the mower. Own a trailer! New is not necessarily better. You can spend a little over 2 thousand dollars and buy a machine that sold for over 10 thousand new and is worth fixing up. Buy a machine that has things wrong with it that you know how to fix. Happy hunting!

After giving me an estimate of $530 to fix pulley bracket and one bent wheel I agreed on the charges.
After a few days pass I get a called that the mower deck is bent badly and they need additional $400 to fix it. I complain to the service manager but he didn't care to help me so I called the 800 corporate phone number to John Deere and they could of care less. I was told that I can take it somewhere else. 4 flat tires, poorly placed safety switches, impossible to maintain a level deck, constant starting issues, cracked seats after 4 months WITH a seat cover on it... These tractors consistently rank highly by Consumer Reports, but they must not be testing them for very long. Shortly after my tractor was delivered I began to notice how cheaply it was constructed, which is frustrating given the price. All 4 tires went flat multiple times and I only drove it on grass. Very soft rubber. I had to fill with several bottles of Green Slime. The brake safety switch is under the mower, which makes it prone to coming apart and keeping you from starting your mower. The seat foam is very cheap. I had it covered with a John Deere seat cover and it was parked in a garage. It still cracked apart and required me to cover it with Duct Tape. Doesn't look good on a tractor that is less than a year old.
The "easy-to-level" deck is as described, until it slides back out of level, which is ALWAYS. Thank goodness it is "easy-to-level" because I have to do it once a month or so. There's no reason why it should be falling out of level so often. This is touted as a mower that can handle driving fast and mowing well. You know the commercials. Well, it's not how fast you mow, it's how slow you have to go to make this mow well. Granted, I'm using mulching blades which I'm sure they didn't use for their "fast mowing", but I can only go about 1/4 to 1/2 speed with sharp blades before I start seeing missed cuts. This is even worse when turning. The mower barely cuts at all when you are turning and leaves lines because of how the blades are angled. I have to go over these spots several times to correct the cut.
Overall, I simply wouldn't recommend these tractors, or John Deere. This hurts me to say, because my family has used these for generations. I would sell it and buy a different brand, but all the things that have gone wrong with it will ruin any resale value it might have. Save yourself the frustration and deal with a product that is of higher quality and offered by a company who is trustworthy and actually stands behind their products.

This is a known problem with these machines and it's ridiculous to think that something still so new could have such a large issue. The worst part of this is after contacting customer service I was told John Deere will not pay anything to fix the mower because it's 4 months out of warranty. We've had multiple lawn tractors over the decades, but this is our first John Deere (model X350). We chose to buy from an authorized (AgPro) dealer - not from one of the box stores, which carry lower end models. Although somewhat more expensive at purchase, we noted the difference in quality immediately with sturdy metal parts where plastic or flimsy metal parts were used on other brands. We know from experience that multiple expensive repairs down the road can quickly erase the "savings" on purchase price.
After several months of use, we have not been disappointed. The mower runs flawlessly, with plenty of power - in forward and reverse. It steers beautifully in and out of tight spaces. Our only criticism at this point is in regards to an accessory we added at the dealership. We had Rhino bars placed to protect the front of the tractor. With these in place, you can not lift the hood to access the engine until you remove the cottage pin to allow the bars to him he down. Other than this we have had a nearly flawless positive experience.

John Deere is one of the best you can buy. It is durable, very seldom have a problem with it and last a long time. Whether you pay full price or get it on sale it is worth every penny.

Had my JD 335 since 2001 and have over 1300 hours on it. Runs like a top. Keep the oil and filter changed and air cleaner washed out and no problems. Put new blades on several times after hitting rocks and replaced both belts.

I have been pleased with the service. But it is a little irritating that when it's backing up the steps are similar to a heel/toe kind of thing and the little pedal thing is too small. Also why do lawn mower tires cost as much as my car tires?

You can buy the same brand at Lowe's or Home Depot. They are the D series. Double the price buying from a dealer puts you in the X series. We are so glad we sprung the extra money for the X series. Better engine, stronger axle for hauling wagons, and spreaders, (we use all the time), and just better built.

Lawn equipment is worth what you pay for. Low prices on a mower mean that the manufacturer is using the least expensive hardware, engines, assemblies. A motor is a big part when mowing tall grass... low cost = low torque, the mower deck is the next part that will play its role... a deep deck will lift the grass up for the blade to cut it. Mower blades need to be properly heat treated. When mowing and you strike a pipe, solid metal shaft... cheap blades will fracture and are a flying object... proper heat treat the blade will bend.

I liked my John Deere at least the job it did and servicing it was a breeze, but believe it or not, if you don't have a minimum weight of at least well over 100 pounds you can't use the mower without wearing weights! It stalls, which is a safety feature if you leave the seat! A good one of course, but nevertheless, I had problems with it repeatedly stalling and wish someone would told me that before I bought it. I am a slight female and it would be obvious that I might not weight enough to use the machine. Ultimately, after 2 seasons of struggling with it, I sold it because it wasn't worth the trouble. I weight 100 pounds for reference.

I like the mower but the deck is terrible to keep level X300 JD. I will level it perfect. I take it to the TriGreen dealership. They level it. My lawn is very level but this deck is terrible.

My mower is approx. a 1969 year old one. Yet it always starts and runs. I use it on a regular basis for many things besides just mowing! We use it to move around our pontoon and trailer along with a smaller trailer we use for items, such as large bags of mulch and garden soil. It also has a tiller which comes in very useful.

It was a real John Deere from a dealer. Deck mowed nice & straight. Used it 2 yrs as a second mower and the engine head cracked. You cannot mow in reverse, which adds to your time. Gas gauge is down between your legs under the seat so you can't see if you're getting low.

On side hills grass not cut evenly. Battery failed prematurely. Also so did the switch for the mower which failed twice. Other than that I am happy with my D170.

I have a Deere LA135. It has been very reliable so far (just hit 200 hours). It has been much more durable and reliable than the Troy-Bilt I had before this.

The tractor is very functional and adapts well to other uses. I especially like the snow blower attachment. Too bad their seats don't stand up, inexcusable for a tractor in this price category.

I enjoy John Deere because they are balanced better with riding mowers and push mowers. The push mower's collector bag is easy to handle and notice when it is time to empty bag. My John Deere mowers last five or more years longer than other mowers, and that is not bringing the mower in for maintenance. If you bring it in for maintenance they last a lot longer. John Deere unlike other mower shops encourages maintenance which saves you money and which improves performance. Their repair staff is well versed when fixing more impactful problems. They make sure their staff is polite whereas other mower shops make eye contact with a genuine face about twenty five percent of the time. Their warranties are honored when an issue falls in a "grey area".
In closing, when I worked on a two thousand acre farm for five years, all the farmers who did not have a John Deere mower, combine, tractor wanted one and got one when they had several good years in a row. They knew they did not consistently break down like the other brands. In turn, time is money. Lastly, I trust a farmer's opinion considering that they are around them constantly, and I witnesses their quality for over five years. In closing, I do not say all farmers and all people who own John Deere equipment are happy with them unless I mean it. With over forty years of hearing the reviews of John Deere, I cannot remember one person who talked negatively about them unless they were jealous that they did not buy one. John Deere mowers are "hands down" the best and maintain their excellence.

This is the third John Deer riding Mower I have owned over many years. I have always had great service from them. My present mower is X304-42X Edge, I bought in 2015. I have a bad problem with grass build up under the deck in the spring when the grass has a lot of moisture in it. The washing port does not seem to help at all. It causes the ends of the blades to wear bad. A few weeks ago it caused the belt that drives the blades to break. The new belt cost me $55.23. This is a problem I never had with the other two.
