We have had our coffee maker a little over a year. We bought it from Lowes. For the last 3 months at random times, the grinder comes on and off. Once while I was making coffee without the grinder, the grinder came on mid cycle and would not shut off. My husband was able to get it off that time. The next morning it came on again by itself. I unplugged it. This is the freakiest thing I have encountered in a household product. From the reviews, I am not alone. These makers are too expensive to be so bad. I had a west bend percolator for 20 years. That was a coffee pot!

I finally found a way to get my Cuisinart coffeemaker (10 cup) to stop overflowing all over the counter. I now stick a knife under the pot at the front while the brewing takes place. The knife blade is just thick enough to force the little gizmo inside the plastic basket-holder up a bit so that the water flows more freely into the pot. No more overflowing. Looks a little weird, but what the heck.

Up until last night we never had any problems with our Cuisinart DCC-1100. Our coffeemaker had been off for two hours. The auto brew function was not set. My wife was already asleep, I was heading off to bed when I smelled burning plastic. As I entered the kitchen, I could hear "boiling" water and observed smoke coming from the coffeemaker. It was the four cups of coffee unused boiling in the pot. I quickly unplugged the unit and took it outside.

2. The coffee maker was "off".
3. Auto Brew Function was "off".

I purchased this Cuisinart Grind and Brew because I had owned the previous model and really enjoyed the coffee it made. Unfortunately after returning the third Grind and Brew machine, I decided that after three strikes it was time for a different brand of coffee maker. This machine made great coffee and has the ability to hold several days' worth of beans in the hopper. I also like the design, not too institutional. The problem was that the grinder on all three machines stopped working after several months. I read the instruction booklet and followed all the directions to clean the bean shoot regularly, doing it every two days with the last machine and still the grinder stopped functioning. With a redesign of the grinder, this machine could make a comeback, if they don't wait too long!

We purchased this Cuisinart Coffee maker FIVE months ago from Younkers. I usually have it programmed to brew coffee a half hour before we wake up. However, thank The Lord I forgot to do it last night because a few minutes after I turned it on to brew, I heard a pop and crackling in the kitchen. I walked in to find the coffee maker smoking and crackling AND the SMELL, was just awful!!! I immediately unplugged it and ran it outside where it continued to smoke for several minutes. We have a two story home with all the bedrooms upstairs. I have two small children and this coffee maker should NOT be on the market anymore!!!! PLEASE recall it. I can't imagine how this would have turned out if I had set the timer like I always do, and was sleeping during this horrific event.

I purchased a Cuisinart DGB-650 top grinding coffee maker and it worked well for about a year. It then started refusing to turn on at times. The other functions seemed to work OK when I could get the machine to turn on. So we purchased a Cuisinart DGB-700BC, the Burr Grind Coffee maker and put the other machine away to use as a back up unit. I take very good care of my makers, cleaning them at least as often as recommended, calcifying them as directed, etc. After less than 6 months, my very expensive Burr Grind unit began to occasionally fail to pump the water out of the maker into the coffee pot, then at about 6 months after purchase, refused to pump water out at all.
It would grind coffee beans with no problem, but would not pump the water. As both makers were still under warranty, I called the manufacturer. It turns out that they require you to pay an up front $10.00 fee for each unit and you are responsible for mailing the unit back to them for replacement/ repair, which is a little over $30.00 for each coffee maker. The reason you are required to return the unit is so that "their quality control people can diagnose the problem and try to fix it". I don't feel it is my responsibility to pay the manufacturer to figure out what they are doing wrong. These units have a 3 year warranty and I should not have to spend $40.00 per maker to have them honor the warranty.

Model DCC-750 - A pot of coffee had just been brewed when I heard a loud pop and began to see smoke billowing from the bottom of the unit. It was unplugged and put outside until it stopped burning. From the reviews on the internet, there is a definite defect with this product and should be recalled before someone is burned or their home is destroyed by fire. This model was purchased at JCP.

Thought Cuisinart was of good quality. I've purchased their coffee pots and Burr bean chopper and had no problem until a year later the pot just surprisingly turned off after brewing. I've sent a request to the company to find out why it's behaving like this. So far, no response. Whatever happened to customer service in this country. Companies don't care anymore and won't stand by their products. Sad!

Purchased the Cuisinart Soup Maker Blender. Used it 3 times and the next time it won't power on. Called customer service and they gave me a repair reference number to send it in for repair. We sent it in and received it back in 2 weeks in the same condition it was in before. Cost $25 for shipping to get it repaired and it still doesn't work. I thought Cuisinart was a first class company that makes quality products. Obviously I was wrong. I will not purchase another Cuisinart product.

If you can, avoid purchasing Cuisinart appliances at all costs!!!! I have a Cuisinart PowerBlend Duet that is brand new and stopped working after the first dozen times of gentle use. The reviews on websites show this to be a consistent problem. I also learned that you can send the product back to the company. You pay for shipping and and handling both ways, and most people had the product work for a very short time after its return! Don't waste your money! I wish that I would have read the reviews before purchase. I also have a Cuisinart coffee maker that stopped brewing coffee after owning for a very short time. Literally used fewer than 6 times! Please learn from my mistakes and read the reviews prior to purchasing these electronics! Steer clear of Cuisinart....

I purchased a Cuisinart coffeemaker in December 2012 at Williams-Sonoma. This morning when I made my pot of coffee, I thought my house was having an electrical fire because of the smell. I realized it was coming from the kitchen and eventually figured out that it was my coffeemaker, which had shut off but was still making hissing noises and smelled like plastic burning. I immediately unplugged it. Just as all the comments on this site say, I am just glad I was home. It is a programmable model (I think CBC1600), but I could not find this model listed anywhere.
I think I'll just go buy another coffeemaker made by a different company (definitely NOT another Cuisinart!). I don't trust replacing this one with another Cuisinart after reading all of the complaints about their coffeemakers. I wouldn't have bought this one if I had read these, but I was under the mistaken impression that Cuisinart was a good name and certainly one I could trust. I'm too afraid to buy another for fear it will cause my house to burn down.
I am not going to bother calling Customer Service either. When I first purchased this coffeemaker, my coffee tasted like plastic for the first month and a half. When I called them, they did nothing to help. The only suggestion they had was to run lemon water through it, which I told them I had already done 3 times. I'm sure they are not going to address this situation, especially based on how they've handled these other customers complaints and I've spent enough money on this coffeemaker that I'm sure not going to spend more to send it back to them to get a replacement that is not safe and I cannot trust!

During a brew cycle of my Cuisinart Coffeemaker DCC-750 it began making a popping and sizzling noise and began smoking smelling of burned plastic and the heating plate turned bright red. I unplugged the machine and took it outside where it continued smoking for several minutes. I understand Cusinart is not taking responsibility for these incidents; therefore, I reported it to the CPSC.GOV and recommend anyone who experiences problems with their coffee maker REPORT IT TO CPSC immediately. They need to recall these appliances (and other models) ASAP before there is a fatality.

I sent back my original Cuisinart coffeemaker DCC 2800 because it simply stopped working after only a year and it had a 3 year warranty! I was charged $10 before the replacement could be sent, and was told to send back the broken model in the box containing the new coffeemaker. As would any logical consumer, I expected there would be a return prepaid shipping label, as is the custom with most warrantied merchandise. Therefore, imagine my disappointment when there was literally no return label (not even an address on a slipshod piece of paper)!
Upon calling Cuisinart, I was told shipping was my responsibility. So we prepared to ship it off to Glendale, CA. We hauled the old broken coffeemaker off to UPS, and received a further shock when the return shipping price proved to be $21.71. Quite a warranty, since it has cost us $31.71 to replace, and I don't even have a new receipt to show in case this replacement should also fail to work properly within 3 years. I believe Cuisinart should have paid the shipping to return their defective product.

I purchased a Cuisinart 12-cup coffee maker in Dec 2013. I had just come back to the house after dropping my kids off at school. The coffee machine was off but I heard some crackling. I went to check on it, thinking I might have accidentally hit the on button after rinsing out the coffee pot, but saw that it was off. Minutes later, the crackling noise continued so I went to unplug the machine and saw black smoke coming out of the back of the machine. The black smoke got worse and smelled of burning plastic. I quickly threw it outside into the snow. I later returned it to Williams-Sonoma where I purchased the machine. Ironically, there was another customer returning the same coffee pot because she had read of the same problem. It scares me that Cuisinart has done nothing about this problem. Had I not come back to the house (by the way, my dog was still in the house!), I could have returned to a horrifying situation. Please do not buy a Cuisinart coffee machine!

They asked me to pay shipping to Cuisinart and send a $7.00 check to pay for my return postage, in case they do find a defect and send a new pan. She argued with me that the defect was my fault. Following routine use of the Cuisinart air popcorn maker, my husband and I became simultaneously nauseated. Reasoning that we both ate different foods and different locations and times, the only commonality was the odor produced while making of the popcorn. I did not eat any popcorn, but still became nauseated at the same time, thereby making it an inhalation danger. The CO detector did not go off, but I think we need to have the machine tested in a lab to see what fumes it gave off to make us so sick… We keep checking our dog as he is much more vulnerable. Has anyone else had similar experiences? And if so, why have they not been pulled off the market??

I have owned many Cuisinart products. Each has broken, shortly after receiving them. The name Cuisinart used to stand for Quality. But now, it stands for Garbage. I had the coffee maker with built in grinder. Within the first few months, the grinder broke, then the timer stopped working, and eventually it got to the point where it would brew a couple cups of coffee and then turn itself off. So I'd have to stand by the machine and keep turning it back on, till the cycle was done. I was so happy to throw that thing in the garbage.
I have the four slice toaster. The two center slices cook on only one side. It's a minor annoyance that I live with but from time to time it boils my blood. I have a Cuisinart can opener that takes a lot of finesse to get the can onto. Sometimes I give up and use the hand-crank opener because it's faster. I don't get it. I learned to use an electric can opener when I was five and I never had an issue with them till now.
I was gifted the Cuisinart coffee grinder. It worked great for about a year, then stopped. With all the bad experiences I'd had, I looked in five different stores to find another brand that had the same coffee bean capacity (even if it cost more) and every place only stocked the same crappy Cuisinart. I needed one right away so I bought another Cuisinart with the expectation that I'll have to replace it soon. I'm already shopping for another brand. It's hard to avoid Cuisinart with the way it has proliferated, but now that I'm conscious of this, I'm reviewing other brands and researching where I can buy them so that I will never have to buy another Cuisinart product in my life.

I received a Cuisinart model DCC-750 coffee maker for my birthday a year and a half ago as a gift. My eleven-year-old son and I were in the kitchen while the coffee was brewing, and suddenly he's yelling "Mom! The coffee maker is smoking!" I unplugged it and removed the carafe only to watch as the Teflon of the burner curled up and turn red hot. I grabbed the smoking machine and ran out my front door and set it in the snow. My fire alarm started going off and I did everything I could to rid the smell of acrid smoke for the next three days.
After reading these similar complaints, I will not put my family in danger again, nor pay to have a faulty product replaced by another potential fire hazard. I will never buy Cuisinart again; think a French press is a safer bet. Very disappointed that the company doesn't care to keep a good reputation with their customer base - especially when it involves a fire hazard. Word got around pretty quick in my family, and I know Cuisinart will not be given as a gift again.

I received my Cuisinart CPT-160 toaster today through a Scorecard Rewards program. When I unpacked my toaster, I noted that the interior of the toaster had an awful smell which is hard to describe -- part electronic, part musty, part chemical, really strong. I plugged it in and the odor filled the room. There is no way that I could even consider preparing toast in the appliance. I phoned Scorecard Rewards and they were no help -- essentially suggested that I wait it out. They seem to only take back damaged items. I phoned Cuisinart Customer Service and they said that the odor is to be expected at first, but could not give me any indication as to how long "at first" is.
They said that it was the metal heating up. No way. This is definitely a rank chemical or electronic smell. Cuisinart likened it to a new oven burning off at first, but my oven never did that. I have noted that small electronics made in China are increasingly bad, and recently discarded a new curling iron for the same problem. My suggestion for purchase of small appliances is to always purchase locally and keep all packing material in order to return items to the store.

I just brewed 4 cups of coffee. Poured and drank the first cup. Went to pour another cup and noticed that the light was off. I thought it was strange and then I could smell a hint of smoke that is associated with an electrical short. I'm a lineman for the local electric company and am quite familiar with the smell. At this time I didn't know for sure if it was the coffee maker or the receptacle. Checked the receptacle and that is okay. Looks like Cuisinart may have a wiring problem with this unit that could lead to an electrical fire. The arc of the fault current apparently is so low that it won't allow the breaker that feeds the receptacle to trip and instead allows the coffee heating element to short. Just my opinion.

Have a Cuisinart classic stainless steel percolator model 12BCC which is 4 months old. This morning, when the perc was approximately half way through its brewing cycle, there was a loud pop, flash and smoke which emitted from the bottom of the perc. I immediately pulled the plug from the wall socket and removed the pot which had no burn marks. I checked the base unit and got a strong smell of electrical burn. My counter top was scorched black in the area of the flash exiting the base of the coffee perc. I removed the base unit and opened the electrical access to observe three wires going to the heating unit.
Of the three wires, the green (ground) was OK. The back (hot) and white (neutral) were fused together approximately 1/2 inch from the connection to the elements. This is a very poorly routed wiring system and would suggest that the product be recalled before a serious condition arises with another perc. I am a retired fire officer with investigations training and will be forwarding my findings to my local Fire Dept.

I submitted an entry yesterday, Dec. 9, 2013, about my Cuisinart Coffee Maker, model DCC-750, catching fire while brewing. If you have this experience, YOU NEED TO CONTACT the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Cpsc.gov , and report this. I was told by their rep that this is the only way a recall will happen on these products, and so far they only have 4 reports, while there are dozens and dozens on this website, going back years. That makes me wonder what exactly is the function of this website, other to provide a place to complain and find info? Considering the hazard of fire and the many incidents reported, there needs to be a greater consequence regarding this situation!
While Cuisinart knows this is a BIG problem, due to all the many calls they have received from consumers whose coffee makers have fried, they are apparently doing absolutely nothing in regard to consumer safety. No recalls, no bulletins, nothing. They simply offer to replace the product, IF you are willing to pay shipment. When I did a search for recalls, I found info regarding a recall on a food processor after ONE report of an injury. While that's great, what about all the people who are in danger of loss of property and life due to defective coffee makers catching fire? So far, every one has been lucky enough to be there when it happened... What does it take for action on this problem, a house to burn down, people to be killed? Very bogus, Cuisinart!!!

My DCC-750 12-cup FlavorBrew Coffeemaker caught fire today. Luckily, I was right there and heard it making a popping/sizzling noise and then smoke started coming out from under the hot plate and up through the rest of the coffee maker. I quickly unplugged it, thinking that would stop whatever was happening, but it continued to get worse. So I took it outside and set it in the snow and by this time it was smoking badly. My house is reeking with the stink of burned plastic and I have a headache and feel sick, despite opening my windows twice to air out the house on a bitterly cold winter day!!!!
I immediately called the company and while the rep, Richard, was apologetic, when he asked for the serial #, I told him the unit was outside in the snow and he said he was pretty busy and couldn't wait long for me to get the number. I went back out, wind chill 0 degrees, blowing snow and got the number for him, but I was afraid to even leave the thing on the porch, in case it was still smoldering inside. He told me that while they would ship me a new one free, I would have to pay return shipping on the old unit. I requested a postage paid label and he said he couldn't do that "for that model". What difference does the model make when the dang thing caught fire on my kitchen counter? "Did you actually see flames?" he asked. No, I didn't stand there and wait for it to get that far, where there's smoke, there's fire, and my house stinks badly enough as it is.
After getting nowhere with Richard, I asked to speak with a supervisor. She, Kim, did not seem interested in the seriousness of what happened and only repeated what Richard had said. He also told me that if I don't return the old unit, which when I asked what he thought that might cost me, he said probably $10, $15 or even $20 postage, he told me that if I don't return it, any future Cuisinart products I buy will have an automatically voided warranty.
After reading all the reviews on this site, as well as others, about Cuisinart coffeemakers catching fire, I don't think I will use the new one and will probably never buy another Cuisinart product again. Not only could my home have burned down, they have the audacity to threaten me with being blackballed from their warranty obligations should I be foolish enough to buy anymore of their products. Real nice, Cuisinart.

I'm throwing out the third one tomorrow but was checking online first to see if there was a recall. The brew basket pops open almost every time I use it. Coffee grounds and coffee end up all over the counter. The only way I can use it now is if I hold the brew basket closed. I'll be buying a different brand as a replacement.

Convection Toaster Oven - Bought this item a year ago, then noticed it was taking longer and longer to bake something. I had an oven thermometer, had the oven set at 450 convection. The thermometer read 225, kept on shutting off. I contacted Cuisinart. They said it was covered under warranty, would have to ship the unit back and they would tell me the cost of shipping. I first checked out the shipping location. It would cost me $36 to ship it to Arizona, plus $10 to ship the new one. I told them that was excessive and would not pay it. OK, they would waive the $10 as a "courtesy" gesture, and the now "limited warranty" would not cover all the cost of a replacement. It appears to me this is a way for increase revenue. A replacement cost them less than that - CHINA product.
I read all the problems with their coffeemakers. I am getting rid of the oven and will never buy another one of their products. They appear to have a safety issue with their products, which they have never addressed. I have found there are far better products out there for less money.

Cuisinart 12 cup coffee maker - Mid-brew the coffee maker stops brewing and spontaneously shuts off. If I turn it back on, sometimes it stays on. Other times it goes off again. This coffee pot was given to me as a gift - it is my second one. The first time I bought it, there weren't any issues. That was when the sides were not stainless steel. I have a Cuisinart Coffee-on-Demand 12-cup programmable model CUI DCC-3000. And again, it stopped working after a year and I hardly use it, just once in a while for company and not even used once a day! It should not break down so quickly. I would never buy this again and I think I need to find a different brand than Cuisinart. I loved the look of it, but it seems Cuisinart is only for looks, not in long lasting quality products. I’m better off with a cheaper brand if need to replace it every year!!

Like so many consumers before me, I made my morning coffee in our 3 year old Cuisinart 14-cup coffee maker and noticed that after brewing, the machine started to make a crackling sound. When I approached the coffee maker, the coffee was boiling and smoke was coming out from the back of the maker. I immediately unplugged it and put in outside where it is currently still smoking! I was lucky in a sense that I was in close proximity when it started to overheat and before it could burn my kitchen down! This coffee maker is a major fire hazard!

We have used this item less than two years but suddenly we experienced a very strong and acrid burning smell which filled the whole house. I discovered smoke coming out of the back of the coffeemaker and unplugged it immediately. Good job we were not outside at the time as if left, it could have caused a fire! I removed the base and found some melted insulation under a metal sleeve which helped secure a wire to the bottom of the heating element. This could have caused the bare wire to have shorted against the element.
I wrapped insulation tape around this bare wire and plugged in the machine but the machine no longer worked. However, there was no burning smell, apart from the residual left from the earlier incident. Turning on ceiling fans and the a/c finally got rid of this awful smell! This is the shortest lifespan ever from a coffeemaker despite it costing more than average. I do not think this was a fluke as now I have read of others having a similar problem. I believe this to be a design defect and a fire waiting to happen. We will NEVER buy Cuisinart anything again as we would never be comfortable with their products after this experience.

CUISINART 14-CUP FP-1400 DC - I am a pastry chef and use this unit at home. It was purchased approximately 3 1/2 years ago. Several weeks ago, I noticed a lot of gunk around the seal that attaches to the bowl. I attempted to clean it but without success. I tried soaking overnight, using a brush and everything I could think of. The seal is so tight that nothing penetrates it. Obviously, I was concerned because of health issues. I contacted Cuisinart Customer Care about this problem.
After many emails, their suggestion was that I purchase a new top for the price of $60.00 (plus shipping)!!! I informed them that I felt that it was unfair that I was to be punished for a Cuisinart design flaw! The outcome is that Cuisinart insists that I purchase a new top because the unit is out of warranty; $60.00 is a quarter of the original purchase price. Am I (or any customer) expected to replace the top of the unit each time it becomes dirty? That is totally unreasonable. To date, this issue has not been resolved and, although I will keep trying, I do not expect a satisfactory result. This is obviously a way to gain customer loyalty.

My mother received this coffeemaker for Christmas 2012. She had problems with it brewing after 3 months, cleaned it per the instructions from customer service which worked for a while and then the water would not drain into the reservoir. I checked the filter area and literally had to pull out the filter with a pair of pliers and found the case around the filter had literally melted. I contacted Cuisinart and they replaced the machine but I had to pay the shipping to me and the shipping of the broken one back to their facility. I don't think so! They then said they would pay the shipping to me for the new pot but I had to ship the old machine back to their service department on my nickel, I'm not! It's still in the garage.
Well, this morning, the new coffee pot I received just 2 weeks ago will not push the water into the coffee cup. I've cleaned the nozzle with a paperclip as instructed by Cuisinart Customer Service, several times, and it still is not making coffee. Don't waste your money on this product. I had to go through an annoying host of menu tree options and was put on hold for some time only to finally speak with a rude customer support person who told that I had called the wrong number. She did give me the right number but told me it was my responsibility to complain to the other customer support person about the wrong number at the website.
In my mind, Cuisinart is Cuisinart. It is one big brand. 1) In this day and age, how can online orders get lost? 2) Why can't they put the right number on their website? 3) Why can't a Cuisinart customer support rep tell someone in her own company that the number is wrong and just get it fixed? Why put that on a customer? When I re-ordered my part with the second customer rep who was efficient and polite, the shipping fee went up by $1. I asked about that and she put the shipping charge back to what it had been on the first invoice. 4) Why is the shipping fee variable? Is this an opportunity to gouge unsuspecting customers? I think that Cuisinart, which up till recently seemed to be a quality brand name, has a little work to do with its customer relations.

My DGB 550 coffeemaker is a complete waste of money. First of all, it needs to be completely cleaned after each use. Does not sound bad until you realize that it is a grinder integrated in to it. Thus it takes 15 minutes to undo the machine. Then you have to lay the nine (yes, nine) pieces around to completely air dry. What happens if you do not do this? The machine gums up and will not process coffee. That means the coffee goes all over your counter. Thinking I had a problem with my machine, I went back to Williams-Sonoma where I purchased it. They told me they are now putting this model on clearance as they have so many issues and mad customers. They gave me the number for Cuisinart. Then the real fun began.
I had a very rude customer service rep. Said I must be in a high humidity area and that is the problem. Well anyone that has heard of Wisconsin in winter knows the humidity is not there. The most disconcerting part about this is the coffeemaker was not on. In fact, it had recently shut itself off (timer). To hear a popping noise and find it smoking like crazy is scary. They found the order and couldn't figure why it had not shipped, so they shipped it. I received the part, but because the gun was packed away, as I only use it for Christmas, I put it aside. On Dec. 13, I emailed them to make sure that order no. ** was the shaft adapter, as they said that was the part that had the guides. On Dec. 19, I emailed them again, as the part was just delivered, and again, it was the wrong part. I then emailed them a picture with my finger through the part stating again, that it is the part that moves the dough through the tube and according to their manual on page 4. On Dec. 27, I emailed them as I had not heard anything. On Jan. 9, I received the part again, and again it is wrong. I sent an email, with both the pictures of the one I needed with my finger through it and the one that they sent to me. My experience with Cuisinart products is they look nice but are not quality products, are not reliable and are of poor design using inferior materials. Our first coffee maker leaked profusely out the bottom and I was told by customer service it needed cleaning. Yeah, right. The second (replacement) coffee maker occasionally dripped slightly and when I reported this to Cuisinart, they said they never received the returned/defective unit after I sent it to them. I was never informed of any other issues with the unit.
Yesterday, the unit leaked profusely all over the counter and made a huge mess and began buzzing. Online, I found serious complaints and issues with rubber tubing that deteriorates, which likely contributes to the leaking and other more serious electrical problems. We know electricity and water mixing is not safe and we are very concerned about a serious electrical malfunction, as the grind feature wants to "self-operate." Hmmm. So, in view of all the bad reviews, I would think a responsible, safety-conscious business, with customer welfare in mind, would alert its customers to equipment and material shortcomings and potential risk. Apparently, that's not a part of Cuisinart culture. Hold that thought.
My second Cuisinart disappointing experience involves the electric popcorn maker that had both tabs fall off the unit - cheap plastic junk. So, I can only assume from my experience that Cuisinart products are overpriced and not reliable. Incidentally, neither of these products were ever abused or dropped or damaged. I will also not donate either of them to a local thrift store (as I might with a good used item) because I would not want to inadvertently put folks in need at risk. What balls to do this to a customer; let alone, it was also defective from manufacturing! I argued with the supervisor with no result and cited that no company would expect to bill you shipping to send the new one to you. As I was not informed of this charge when I talked to the rep, they will not receive it. It was a known defect and I will not pay for it.

I own a Cuisinart Brew Central Coffeemaker DCC-1200 and have had it for about 2 years. This morning, I was making breakfast so I was right there when it started to smoke and burn up. The coffee had just finished brewing and the matching beeped indicating the brew cycle was done. I was plating my fiancé’s breakfast when I smelled something burning and turned my head to see my Cuisinart Brew Central Coffeemaker DCC-1200 pouring out smoke from the base. It was just rolling up. I got the carafe off of it, unplugged it, and had my fiancé open the door. I immediately took it outside while smoke was pouring from the base of the unit.
I have had a few coffeemakers over the years and I can safely say I have never ever had one do that. It's very scary. Thank goodness, I was right there. The outcome could have been very bad. This product should have been recalled! It is a fire hazard! When I called customer service, I was informed that they have never had a problem with any of their coffeemakers and that they had never heard of this. She did say that they would send me a brand new unit so long as I cut off the cord and send it to them at my cost. Then they would turn around and ship me a new unit at no cost to me. After this, I don't want another of their coffeemakers in my home.

On December 11, 2009, I purchased a Cuisinart food processor (dlc2011bcnc) from The Bay in Montreal. The control pad ceased to function in September 2012, so I shipped it to Conair customer service at 100 Conair Parkway in Woodridge, Ontario on November 5, 2012. It was sent back to me saying it was not broken, while in fact it still did not work. Conair paid for it to be shipped back to them. On November 23, 2012, I received a package containing what I thought to be the repaired processor base, as stated (serial number) on the waybill. But in fact, it was replaced with a used base.
I phoned ** at customer service and he admitted that the machine was replaced, though he did not need or want the serial number of the unit nor tell me what it had been used for. I find it unacceptable that Conair replaces a defective product with a used product. Furthermore, Conair did not note that the original machine was replaced. It's a sorry state of affairs when companies like Conair try to pass off their warranty with unidentified used machines.

The coffeemaker has performed well for 3 years, plus 4-5 months (warranty is for 3 years). But recently, it would turn itself off about 5-10 seconds after pressing the start button. If I unplugged the unit from the wall outlet and then replugged it, it usually worked OK. But recently it began to cut out repeatedly even after unplugging and replugging. This morning I noticed that the resting plate under the thermal pot was very hot, although it is not supposed to heat up to keep the coffee hot since it's a stainless steel thermal carafe. I realized this was a potentially major fire hazard, similar to what other reviewers have described, though not yet as bad. I then called Cuisinart customer service to describe the problem and a supervisory person agreed with me that it was a manufacturing defect, but that there was nothing Cuisinart either could or would do because my unit was a few months out of warranty.
Their advice - go out and buy a new coffeemaker. My response - you can be sure it won't be a Cuisinart. Seeing how many people are experiencing similar, very dangerous problems and reporting them here, I find it astonishing that Cuisinart is behaving in such an irresponsible manner. Once again, the burner on the new one went out! I now have three of them sitting out on the shelf in the garage and am still using an older one. I keep my fingers crossed every time I make coffee!
I should have woken up and smelled the coffee the first time I read "Made in China" on the bottom. The ones I had were 12-cup type model DCC 1200. I have replaced the newer one with an older, older one and at least I am still able to make a decent cup of coffee! I haven't had this last one for a very long time and it is probably still under warranty but to heck with it! My advice is to not waste your money on them as they aren't cheap! I’m just reading some of the reviews about people’s experiences with the Cuisinart coffee maker, namely the DCC-1200. I have the model DCC-2200. While I have not experienced any electrical or fire issues with this coffee maker, I would like to make an observation as to what could be the problem with the other consumers who have had electrical or potential fire issues with their coffee makers. One possible explanation could be that the water tank lid forms a considerable amount of condensation (puddles up) and when the lid is opened up, this pours down the back of the unit. If gone unnoticed, it could very well be puddling up on the underside of the hot plate, wherein there is a warning on the bottom side of the coffee maker not to immerse in water. This could very well be causing an electrical short in the unit. This water tank lid design is just plain stupid. Whenever I make a pot of coffee, I make sure and dump the excessive condensation from the lid. Well, anyway that's my 2 cents on a possible cause for electrical issues with some of the reviews I have read here.

I purchased a new single-serve SS-700FR for my daughter and son-in-law for Christmas. I did not notice it said it was a refurbished product because I would never consider buying a refurbished product. They were selling their home, so along with their wedding gifts they did not unpack the new coffee maker until May when they moved into their new home. It does not work. I called a small appliance repair person and he has determined the pump is bad and defective. So a supposedly tested refurbished product was sent out with a bad pump. Not one cup of coffee has come from this coffee maker. If they won't fix it, I'd just like to return it and they can refurbish it for someone else and refund my money.

Several years ago, I purchased a Cuisinart Automatic Coffee Grinder/Maker and recently noticed after washing the carafe, some black sludge was leaching from a small pinhole at the bottom. I'm not sure how it got there, but if the interior of the carafe was made by a casting process, or there was some kind of defect in the material used to form it, this is a potentially serious health risk.
I shudder to think what kind of mold or bacteria is growing in the warm, moist space between the exterior sidewalls of the carafe and the supposed vacuum space between it and the inner that holds the brewed coffee. I have no idea how long I have been drinking from this toxic pot, but I am concerned what I and potentially thousands of others have been exposed to. I'm sure a lab test of some kind could readily identify what the dark, seepage contains.
Apparently, Cuisinart Customer Service is more concerned about whether my unit is still under warranty rather than the fact that I and others may be poisoning themselves. I have offered to send back the pot so that it can be analyzed but they are unconcerned. In the future, I will never buy another coffeemaker with a metal carafe and urge others to consider avoiding any manufacturer that is unconcerned with customer safety.

I purchased a glass cutting board at Kohl’s. I have the model number. My cutting board exploded in my kitchen, across my floor, in my sink. It was in my hair, small cut above my eye, a couple of cuts on my leg. It stopped up my garbage disposal because I guess I didn’t get all the glass out. It was all over my rug, which I am afraid to clean. It was not in a cold room. I did not drop anything on it. I was just cutting a piece of pineapple. Okay, here's another one just like the ones before. I bought the DC-1100 a week ago. After brewing a pot this morning, and drinking most of it, we heard a gurgling sound and went into the kitchen to find the unit smoking. We were also just about to walk out the door - ughhhh. In addition, noticed that no lights were on and the clock was no longer working. So it seems like the unit had burned through the control unit. Regarding my DCC-1200: I'm amazed at the stories I have found on the internet relating to the CuisinArt coffee makers (various models). Ours did exactly that same thing that is explained in all stories I have read so far. The scary thing is, I was getting ready to walk out the door and leave my children alone at the house - my oldest one is 13. I heard this gurgling sound that wouldn't stop, saw the smoke and unplugged it. What if I had left the house with my kids here? I feel like filing a lawsuit for that reason alone!
I searched "cuisinart coffee maker caught fire" and have read 23 stories in the last 5 minutes. These go back to 2008. What is wrong with this company that they have ignored these complaints for all these years? I guess it will take a tragedy to bring them to their senses. Thankfully it wasn't mine. As someone mentioned, I urge everyone to post their stories on all websites they can think of. Even if you didn't purchase through them (i.e. Amazon, CPSC, etc.). I'm also posting on Consumer Reports and Consumer Affairs. We've got to get the word out.

I was given your Grind & Brew Thermal 10-cup Automatic Coffeemaker DGB-650 last year as a birthday gift. It worked well for about a week, then it began to leak from time to time. What a mess and what a crummy way to start your day, especially at 5:15AM. I assumed I was doing something wrong, like putting in too much water or coffee so I made adjustments. It did not make a difference. It still leaked all over, discoloring my kitchen cabinets. It also started to make strange noises like the electrical was not right. I brought it back thinking it was a fluke and traded it in for another one just like it.
The new one worked great for a week then it started to leak all over. Frustrated, I posted my issue on Facebook. I'd like to think your company would be surprised at how many people I knew had similar problems with their Cuisinart coffeemakers. Then I was sent a link that showed your company is aware of this problem, but continues to sell this piece of crap. I will never buy another Cuisinart product as long as I live.

Our Cuisinart coffeemaker (Model: DCC-1200 / Serial Number: 91120) got caught on fire. An hour or so after brewing a pot of coffee, we noticed that the Cuisinart was making an unusual noise as if it was starting to brew again. We found that it was beginning to smoke at the base with a very acrid, electrical smell. The warming plate had changed color as if the high heat was melting the base. With the smoke beginning to pour out, we quickly unplugged and walked the coffeemaker outside and set it on cement. We were in the kitchen when it happened and I can't imagine if we went out to walk our dog and came back later.

I purchased my Cuisinart CBC-00 1 year ago. Recently, while brewing a pot of coffee, it began to make loud popping sounds and smoke poured from the cord storage compartment opening. There was a strong smell of electrical fire as well. I immediately unplugged and removed the machine from the house; it continued to emit smoke for at least another 2 minutes. I have contacted Cuisinart by email and described the episode, but have had no response from them. I believe this issue has the potential to be extremely hazardous. If I had not been present at the time to notice the noise and the smoke, I strongly believe a fire would have ensued.

Cuisinart coffeemaker is a fire hazard. While brewing a pot of coffee this morning, my Cuisinart DGB-700BC Grind-and-Brew 12-Cup automatic began to produce smoke from the underside and/or rear of the unit. It also produced a strong odor of an electrical fire and/or smoldering. Looking closer, it appears that the heat pad ring area is warped.
When I noticed the smoke/odor, I immediately unplugged the appliance. I saw no flame, however. The coffeemaker continued to smoke and produce a strong odor. I removed it from the house and sat it outside. Turning to a Google search, cursory online research suggests Cuisinart coffeemakers (other models, too) are the target of more than a few fire-related consumer complaints. Several websites I read included consumer remarks that, when contacted, Cuisinart customer service representatives said they had no previous such reports. But if the incidents are as plentiful as the internet suggests, this would doubtlessly fall under the "known problem" category. My coffeemaker was less than two years old. I am uncertain of my options if any as I cannot find my original receipt.

I called Cuisinart, they said they would send me a new coffee maker, model #SS-700. I had to pay for shipping in an enclosed check.
Got the coffee maker, washed it, I was filling up the water well. It started leaking from the hole in the bottom. Now, they have to send me another one. I was so upset as I was happy to have my great coffee back. This is a tremendous inconvenience for me and I have to say that these machines should be perfected and should be able to last for a much longer time. I am trying to be patient but it's wearing thin. I called customer service a couple of days ago and explained that I heard that it could be covered by the warranty. But the representative said the system has some problem, so she asked me to call back again. I called back again, but the representative today said it cannot be covered by the warranty. I explained that the meat was half-frozen, which I means it was not too tender or too solid. They said it was my fault because the meat was frozen.
I explained to them it was half-frozen, not very solid and not very soft. I told them "half-frozen" from the first, but they said I told them "frozen" first and changed my words. I don't know if they (another representative and her manager) have used the machine or not, but we cannot slice meat if the meat is completely frozen. After some arguments, the manager said I should send them the broken part and they will judge if it was my fault or if it was product defect. I don't think it is fair. Once I send it to them, then I don't have the proof anymore. But she said there is no choice. I feel really bad about the time I wasted by waiting to talk with them only to hear this kind of unreasonable explanation. What should I do?

They asked my address and told me to call in 2 weeks. 2 weeks after, I called, and another person told me that the base is in back order and will be shipped in 2 weeks but that if it's still not there, the company will replace all unit.
After I called again, they lost all my previous records about my case and told me to wait 2 more weeks as unit is back-ordered. I asked if they could send me a new unit. The person on the phone was very rude, but in a while, he told me he cancelled my part order and will ship a unit but that I need to pay $15 for a new unit plus ship them the old one.

We had to have Cuisinart replace the rotating wedge piece that turns the blade, right after we purchased the machine. But even with that replaced, it never blends anything! I had to remove the stopper and spring on the second use. Then the basket door pops open at random times, flooding my kitchen with hot brown water (half-brewed coffee) and coffee grounds.
I am a fix-it kind of guy and have dissembled the thing many times to find no apparent reason for the malfunction. This thing needs to be watched at all times--who needs a coffee maker that has to be babysat? I enjoy fresh ground coffee, and I wanted a thermal carafe to save energy. However, the piece of junk has cost me more in wasted coffee (which is costly to begin with) than if I had driven to the nearest Starbucks (25 miles) and bought a Grande Latte every day!

I have to turn it off and start it again. It continues to do this for 5 or 6 tries, and then sometimes, it will blend long enough to make the smoothie. I try it on different speeds, it makes no difference.
I contacted Cuisinart by email and was told I would have to send a check or M.O. for $10 (to cover shipping and processing costs), along with the blender base, to the repair center. They would determine if it was still under warranty. If not, I would have to pay for the repair. If I do not have the receipt, they will assume it is not under warranty.

The switch started making a noise and then it started smoking severely. I unplugged it, and it got worse. Finally, I had to take it outside, and eventually had to pour water into the bottom of the unit, to stop the unit from burning.

I was very excited to get these dishes and once I got home and opened the boxes, I was very disappointed that they were different from the display. The bowls did not have the floral branch pattern in them like the display did and also, the coloring was completely off in comparison to both the display and the box.
We took them back and exchanged for the same design because there were broken dishes when they were received as a Christmas gift which my husband talked me into keeping. Now that we are using them, they are chipping all apart.
I am very disappointed in the quality of these dishes especially for the price. I have two sets at $100 a set! My grandmother's bone china is more sturdy than this crappy set of dishes put out by Cuisinart! I will never buy anything with this company name on it again and I have made sure that my family and friends are aware of the quality. I do not want to be contacted by this company and I just want the wonderful people who research to know about the quality so that they can keep their $200 and spend it elsewhere.

I purchased a Cuisinart DCC 1200 12 Cup Coffee Maker on 9/3/10. I came downstairs in the morning after the programmed coffee had been made and saw and smelled blue electrical smoke coming out of the machine including the rear cord area. The machine had turned itself off but it was still smoking. I immediately unplugged it and plugged it back in a few minutes later.
The clock would not come on nor would any indicator lights. I waited for another 15 minutes and tried again. This time, the clock and lights would work, but the machine did not. I have been contacting Cuisinart and will be returning the item to Kohls, where I bought it today. Cuisinart needs to do something about this.

I've had three of these pots in the last 18 months. My husband and I usually use the pot once or maybe twice a week for 2-4 cups of coffee. We always use filtered water in the pot. I went to use it tonight and would not work. I took off the water tank and put in fresh water but no luck. I’m very disappointed in this pot. I’m taking it back tomorrow. What is the problem with these pots?

Regarding my order #**: I received the Pure Indulgence Ice Cream Frozen Yogurt and Sorbet Maker for Christmas. Unfortunately, the instruction booklet was not in the box, I contacted Customer Service on 12/28/11 to request a replacement booklet. Above is my order number. I called the middle of January to check on the status and was told it was on back order. As of this date, I still have not received the instruction booklet. I am quite amused and upset that a simple instruction booklet order takes this amount of time to be filled. I may be more patient if these were parts I had requested. I think this is absolutely ridiculous and I feel that more than ample time has passed.
To be quite honest, I always thought that Cuisinart was a step above the rest. Due to the manner this simple request was handled, I feel certain I will not purchase a Cuisinart item and I plan to relay my Cuisinart experience with my patients. Word of mouth carries a lot of weight.

To those still using this unit, I wouldn't leave the room when it's in use.

Extreme warning: Fire. This unit which is just over a year old brewed about 3/4 pot of coffee then the burner turned red hot and started to smoke and melt down. Where is the overloads on this unit? Where is the safety shutoff if it overheats?
This would have caught fire without a doubt in my mind. It set my smoke detector off while I was in the bedroom. There are a lot of complaints about this. Someone will die if this is not addressed and addressed now!

On Thursday of last week, my Cuisinart Flavor Brew 12-cup Coffeemaker, model DCC-750BK caught on fire. I started the pot's brew cycle and stepped into another room. While brewing coffee, the coffee pot began began making a loud buzzing sound and I could smell burning plastic. When I re-entered the kitchen, smoke was pouring out of the brew plate area at the bottom of the device. The brew plate was glowing bright red and small flames/sparks were coming out from beneath the front area of the brew plate. It was very frightening! If I hadn't been home, there would have been a fire and smoke damage.
My coffee maker was purchased just over a year ago. It has an automatic shut-off. Per the box, it has a "limited 3-year warranty." I'm still researching what that means. With all these reports of electrical fires/malfunctions by Cuisinart coffeemaker, it is criminal that Cuisinart has not had a coffeemaker recall and publicly warned consumers about the potential fire hazard.

We bought our coffeemaker 5 years ago. We were quite happy with it, and keep it clean and in good working order. Two days ago, we noticed it only brewed a half pot of coffee, and then shut off. I thought it was the plug in our kitchen, because after we let it sit for a while, I plugged it in at a different plug, and it worked fine. Then yesterday, we plugged it in and it worked for a whole pot, but when my husband went to get coffee, he noticed a funny smell, and when he removed the pot, the whole bottom of the glass pot fell out and hot coffee went everywhere including his arm.
It's a good thing he was close to the sink and cold water. We went in search of a replacement pot, which we found for $30.00, but this morning, when we made coffee, the whole scenario happened again, with the pot shutting off halfway through. We moved it to another plug, and then we noticed the smell of burning wires, and saw smoke coming from the top of the coffee maker. We wonder how many house fires have happened due to these pots. Shame on you Cuisinart for allowing this problem to go on this long. So, now we have a new pot, but a non-functioning coffee maker. We have many Cuisinart appliances, but now we won't trust any of them, and you can bet we won't buy another one!

After 18 months of reliable service, my Cuisinart DCC-1200 stopped working this morning. The brew light and clock were on, but nothing happened. Reading all the other complaints, I am extremely grateful not to have discovered a fire, but I too will not buy another Cuisinart coffeemaker. The comments from others regarding the company's customer service are outrageous - they should absolutely recall the products. Maybe they should stick with food processors from now on.

Bought a Cuisinart SS-700 less than a year ago. Last week it started making strange noises so we unplugged it since we were going on vacation. Upon our return we plugged it back in and made several cups of coffee. This morning, while drinking our coffee, it started making loud noises again. Before I could get into the kitchen to unplug it, it started brewing water everywhere. The unit was very hot and smelled like wires were burning. Tried power switch with no luck. Pot wouldn't turn off until I unplugged it. Had I already left for work the house would be burned down. Many complaints and still no recall. I am ashamed of Cuisinart. They offered me a replacement for $10 plus I had to pay shipping. Horrible customer service and I wouldn't trust another product from them.

I have a Cuisinart 12 cup programmable coffeemaker (Model DCC1200) purchased in January 2011, from Bed Bath Beyond. On New Year's eve, Dec 31, 2011, after brewing a pot of coffee, the coffeemaker began popping/sizzling with an accompanying smell of burnt plastic/rubber. The heating plate was extremely hot. The coffeemaker switch was in off position.
I pulled the plug, noting the wire was hot. I tested the electrical outlet, which was okay. Luckily, I had been present during this malfunction, or else a fire would have likely ensued. In researching the Cuisinart coffeemaker of the same model, I was surprised to see similar complaints. I returned the coffeemaker to Bed Bath and Beyond, and was provided a refund with no problems. Based on other complaints, this is clearly a defective product, which should have been recalled.

It has very poor carafe design/construction, the Coffee Plus 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Hot Water System. The top of the carafe is loose. I was pouring a cup of coffee, thankfully not hot. It was not one of the first pours, so I had to tip the carafe more than earlier in the day when I poured the hot first and second cup.
The top fell off, and the coffee went all over me, my counters, and the floor. I called customer service with concern about this. The first-line employee (Akesha?) was professional and immediately upon my request gave to Michelle, the floor supervisor. I was told that this issue was not known. (I told her "Now it is; I am telling you about it.") There is no known process for reporting dangerous product issues, except to mail the CEO of Cuisinart. She told me that this product has been around since May 2010. However, I just saw commercial about it around November or so. And it is listed as a new product on the website.
I would hate for folks to get burned because of this. I'm very disappointed in Cuisinart's response. Upon further looking at this, we found the top is warped--bad design/plastic. It is next to the hot water dispenser which may be affecting it?

We own a Cuisinart DGB-700 coffeemaker. This morning, my wife brewed a pot of coffee. We were then leaving to go to the store so we went out of the house. After she was out, she realized that she forgot to take her coffee so she reentered the house. When she went into the kitchen, the coffeemaker base heating element was "glowing red" and smoke was coming out of the bottom. Also, there was a strong smell of an electrical fire. My wife pulled the plug and removed the pot from the base and ran out to tell me about it. I went back in the house and grabbed the coffeemaker (which was extremely hot) and I ran out and put it on the patio to cool. If we had not gone back into the house, I am convinced that our entire apartment would have been on fire and the fire would have endangered the entire apartment building which has more than 20 families.
When I did a search online, I saw that there were complaints about multiple models of the Cuisinart coffeemakers but all described exactly the same situation happening. What made me even madder is that I see that Cuisinart has known about this problem for at least a year and has not issues any kind of recall. I am in public relations in NY and you can bet that tomorrow, I will be sharing this with the NY Media. Cuisinart, you have pissed off the wrong person.

The crackling noise continued getting louder and it began smoking and gave off the strong odor of an electrical fire that filled the kitchen. We unplugged it and removed it from the kitchen. I recently received your Coffee Plus 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Hot Water System for Christmas. I am so disappointed in this unit because this is one of the main gifts I asked for from my kids. I am a tea drinker and my husband loves coffee only. I always complained to him that I wish I had a hot tea maker like his coffee maker.
Well at first, it was great because I had hot water anytime I wanted. But as time went on, I was a little angry. I always clean the coffee pot with soap and water as well as the basket every day. I can't use the water side anymore because it smells and taste like coffee! I have the filters in there so that is not the problem. Did anyone even think that when you tested this that the coffee’s taste would invade the hot water side of the machine? I need to take this back because there is no fixing this. You would have made a better decision by providing a separate unit just for hot water and not attached to the coffee pot. Please let me know if others people have reported the same problem.
P.S: You should have hired a "Tea Lover" to check this out before you put it on the market". I am sure they would have reported that this is not a good idea.
