After almost 2 years of using my Cuisinart Grind and Brew DCC790 without any problems, today it caught on fire. Thankfully, I was just a room away when it started and I was able to put the burning appliance outside quickly. After smoke filled my kitchen, I have a distinct burning smell of a plastic that still lingers in the air. If I had gone to the shower after my first morning cup as I usually do instead of starting a load of laundry, I would not have been able to catch the fire so quickly. Reading all the other reported fires of this product, I believe it should be recalled and the public notified about this very dangerous product. Do we have to have a death or a house burned down before this product is recalled?

I have a DCC 1100 model that is 2 years old. We smelled the coffee pot having burning wires the other morning. Luckily no fire came from it. I have another one that is 3 years old that I am using but I am very hesitant to continue with it. I love the coffee but do not want to risk of a fire.

We purchased the DCC 1200 model about a year ago. This morning when I turned it on, the light came on but that was it. The clock works, light works but it will not brew coffee. Thank God it did not catch fire. We pulled out our old coffee pot that we kept. Will not purchase another Cuisinart. Don't want to burn our house down.

Today, my DCC-790 Grind and Brew coffeemaker started smoking from the heat plate. Luckily, I pulled it outside before it could catch fire and do damage. I started researching this online and found hundreds of complaints on this and other models of their coffeemakers smoking and/or catching fire. I called Cuisinart and since it was still under warranty, they offered to replace it but wanted to charge me shipping for both ways! I complained a bit and she offered to pay the shipping to me but I still had to fork over $10 to ship the bad one back. How ludicrous! I asked for a supervisor and Doug came on. After arguing about it a little more, he agreed to cover shipping both ways. While I appreciate Doug's attention to the matter and why I gave the overall rating, it still frightens me that while there have been so many complaints of fires and potential loss of property and life, according to Doug, Cuisinart has not heard of any of these complaints! What needs to be done is to fix this and avoid someone getting hurt?

Just this morning I started to smell smoke and realized it was coming from my coffee pot. I went to pull the plug and the machine kicked off before doing so and smoke was rolling out of the top of it. I took the glass pot off and ran the rest outside in fear of it bursting into flames. I was in tears just thinking about what could have happened, had I not been home. I immediately got online to do some research on the Cuisinart DCC 1100 Coffeemaker and came across this site with the same complaints. Is it going to take someone's house to burn down to pull this model off the shelves or what? I really hope these complaints are not just to vent, but to actually get something done with products that could cause potential harm or death for that matter.

This was our second Cuisinart coffee maker in 1 and 1/2 years. The first one just stopped working when it was almost a year old. Today, our second one started smoking and turned bright red on the metal base. I grabbed the coffee pot off because I feared that it would shatter with the extreme heat. The element had been on high so I turned it to medium. Then a few minutes later, I noticed it had turned itself off. Now, it will not turn back on. It is dead.

We purchased another maker Cuisinart CBC-00 series on 3/7/09. Just last week, it stopped working too. It will not come on to start the brew process. My wife went out and purchased another maker (same kind) we have been using an older Bunn maker that I pulled out of our RV until we could get the Cuisinart replaced. It has been a week and the new maker is still in the trunk of my wife's Camry (unopened). After reading all of the reviews tonight on this site, I have instructed my wife to return the new maker for a refund. I do not want my house to burn down with my kids inside it. $90 is not worth losing everything we have worked our ** for. Sorry Cuisinart, our Bunn maker is 10+ years old and still has no problems with it. I think we paid $25 for it and it still works.

I have used Cuisinart coffee makers for many years. I recently purchased a new one at Bloomingdale's and when I got it home, I noticed it came with a thermal coffee pot. I have always had a glass pot. Now, when we make the coffee in the morning after brewing the electric plate shuts off, but the coffee is not hot. My husband has to microwave the coffee to make it hot enough. What is wrong?

I also have a Cuisinart DCC 1200 that caught fire. Just like others have stated, we had just finished drinking our coffee when we heard a popping noise in the kitchen. When I went into the kitchen, the base of the coffee maker was on fire. If we had not been home, we could have lost our home, possessions and pet. What can we do as consumers to go back at Cuisinart?

After extensive research and glowing reviews, I bought a Cuisinart 1100 coffee maker about a year ago. It has made very good coffee, but this morning it did its burning acrid smell thing. Went outside for about 2 minutes, came back into the house and the smell was overpowering. We finally traced it to the coffee pot, unplugged it (it had already turned off), and dumped it outside. I googled about the acrid burning smell. Should I be concerned? Wow! What an eye opener to see how many had had the same problem. Obviously, this model needs to be recalled before some serious damage occurs.

What's up Cuisanart? I'm going to get you back somehow, some way! Your coffee pot caught on fire today and I have 3 kids. Take this as a threat, but when I read the complaints of the previous people and found that I had to rush my coffee pot out the door to eliminate the fire hazard to my house, I take that as a threat as well to me and my family. You have heard the warnings from the previous postings and if I need to file a civil claim to reap the returns of what you have caused, I will. Do not buy this coffee pot, it could kill you and your family!

We purchased the DC 1200 Cuisinart Coffee Maker last November. This morning as the coffee was finishing up brewing, there was a popping noise, a flame, and smoke coming from the base. We immediately unplugged the unit and the flame went out. The smoke persisted for a good half an hour. If we were not home, there is no telling what the state of our house would be in right now. I can't believe this product has not been recalled, based on all the similar stories I have read here.
We can no longer use it. It could have burned the house down, if we weren't home. This was not a cheap coffee maker, and we have only had it for nearly a year. Other coffee makers I've had, lasted over 15 years.

I've had the exact same experience as everyone else has described with my six-month old Cuisinart DCC-1200C series coffee maker. The "popping" sound, the smoke billowing out of the unit, and the overwhelming smell of burning electrical. Like many others, we also are grateful we were awake and able to run the unit out into the backyard before anything more serious happened. I emailed Conair (apparently a parent company of Cuisinart), and refused to pay my own money to ship this defective product to them. They sent FedEx to my door to pick up the unit for "research and analysis" purposes and have promised me a different appliance for compensation. (I refused to have another of their coffee makers in my house). It was a week ago that they took possession of the coffee maker, and I haven't heard a word since. I've kept all documents and correspondence and am prepared to hold them accountable. I'm shocked that this scenario keeps happening, and they don't recall this clearly defective product.

Nine months ago, I purchased a Cuisinart DCC1200 coffeemaker. This morning, about 45 minutes after making coffee, my wife noticed a crackling sound and burning smell coming from the kitchen. She found that the coffeemaker was smoking heavily and the coffee in the carafe was boiling. We immediately unplugged the unit and threw it outside. The house is still permeated with the odor of burnt wires. From reading the site, I see that I am only one of the many with this identical problem. This is obviously a defective product and would undoubtedly have started a fire if we had not been at home. But apparently, Cuisinart chooses to do nothing about the plethora of identical complaints about a potentially life-threatening situation caused by this line of products. To add insult to injury, this was an expensive coffeemaker. From reading the experiences of others with the same problem, I am not optimistic about Cuisinart doing anything about it. The unit is still under warranty, but why would I want this coffeemaker replaced with another identical fire hazard? Several people have mentioned that their replacement unit caught fire, the same as the original one.

When grabbing the handle, it is practically inevitable that one is going to burn one's knuckles at some point. When I called customer service to inquire if they had any heat-resistant stickers or some other workaround for their shoddy engineering, I was told that my best recourse was oven mitts. On Saturday, July 23rd after drinking coffee and finishing the pot and turning it off, about 30 minutes later cracking sound and smoke started coming from the coffee machine. I went to the coffee maker and confirmed it was off, unplugged it and unplugged it. The warming plate had turned on when the machine was turned off. I turned the vent on and got the smoke out of the kitchen.
There should be a recall for this machine as I found that this is an issue happening with many others.

I purchased the Cuisinart DCC-1200 coffee maker in late fall or early winter of 2010 or 2011. This morning, July 18, 2011, the coffee brewed and then shut off. After about 20 minutes, I heard a crackling sound in the kitchen and went to investigate. The coffee was boiling in the pot! I removed the pot, and smoke started to pour from under the coffee maker. Thankfully we were home when this happened, as this could have been a potential fire hazard. Like many others who have gone online to find some answers, I found many other complaints about the Cuisinart's having this exact same issue. I will contact Cuisinart and see what they have to say. However, I do not want another Cuisinart coffee maker in the home since it appears they have not acknowledged the problem with other customers, nor do I feel safe to enjoy coffee and then leave the house, not knowing what the end result could be. When it did work, prior to today, I was very happy with it and was pleased to see it listed as the top coffee maker of its kind in Consumer Reports this Spring. I guess I need to let Consumer Reports know about this situation.

I too have purchased a Cuisinart DCC-1200 coffee maker. It worked great for the first nine months. Last night I brewed a pot of coffee and luckily was sitting in the living room where I could hear the coffee pot making very loud gurgling and popping noises. Went into kitchen to check out the unusual noises and found the coffee maker smoking from the bottom. I unplugged it and the smoking stopped after a minute or so. I am very fortunate this did not occur in the morning when it had been programmed to brew as I often do.
Having read on this website the exact problem occurring repeatedly Cuisinart has a real problem and a huge potential liability. Having also read repeatedly the amazingly poor response from Cuisinart when the problem was reported I don't expect any support from them, but I dont' want another cuisinart product anyway. When you press the start button, the beater will turn half a turn and shut off. We purchased a Cuisinart DCC-755 10-cup Coffee Maker from Costco less than a year ago. Over the last few days it made a buzzing noise when turned on to brew. After a minute or so, the noise would stop and the coffee brewed fine. This morning it did the same thing. I left the room to do something and when I came back in, it was smoking from the base. I immediately unplugged it. I then unscrewed the base to make sure it was not burning inside. There was a white powdery substance concentrated in one area where I could also see melted plastic.
This is just like so many other Cuisinart coffee makers I have seen reported on this site and other sites. I contacted Cuisinart and got the same "haven't heard of that". When I pointed out all the websites, including this one, where complaints have been sited, the customer service agent, Mead, said they had no knowledge of these sites and that the complaints of smoking coffee pots was under 1%. Hmm... if they sell only 10,000 units, that is still 100 coffee pots that could start a fire and kill the people living in the house. So he basically said this was an acceptable percentage.
He gave me the standard “mail-it-back-to-us-and-we-will-look-at-it”, but then informed me that by simply taking the base off my warranty was void. I removed 4 screws and the base comes right off. It has no wires or components on it. So, only thing to do is write this complaint and vote with my pocketbook, which means no more Cuisinart products in this household. Recommendation to anyone considering a Cuisinart coffee pot-- don't put your life in their hands.

I heard the coffee boiling in the pot and as I took the pot off the base, the bottom and the back of the unit began to smoke. I unplugged the unit immediately and put it into the sink and poured a cup of water onto the base to cool it off. Unfortunately, the unit sent a very heavy, strong odor around the house which has taken hours to dissipate even with the windows open and the stove fan on. The odor has induced asthma in me and even at work, I could still feel the effects for hours. I received a DC 1100 Cuisinart coffee pot for Christmas 2010. Its been about 3 months of using this unit and the other morning it made a pop sound and quickly filled the house up with smoke. Fortunately, my husband was standing right there in the kitchen, unplugged it immediately and threw it outside. I called the Cuisinart company to report the issue and they told me to take it back to the store to replace it. I told her the issue is not about the new coffee pot, but about the fact that I have two young children and it is clearly a fire hazed. As if i would want to replace the burnt coffee unit with the exact same one, so it could potentially be life threatening to my family.
I asked if there was anything being done about it, and she stated that there have been no other complaints. Which is clearly not true, due to the overwhelming complaints that I found online. I feel something more needs to be done, before something devastating happens, like a life being lost or a house full of memories burns to the ground due to the negligence of the company! A few more minutes and it would have ignited into a full flame. I have now found a number of posts at www.consumeraffairs.com which describe the same problem. It seems that Cuisinart denies there is a problem and has not pulled the product from shelves. I stopped by two major department stores this morning (The Bay and Sears in Canada) to advise them of my experience, and asked them to consider pulling the coffee maker from their shelves. So I called back and they said they would send me a new one, but I had to pay for the shipping $10, plus I had to pay to ship their defective product back. I waited two weeks and received a refurbished coffeemaker, and it was broken. The plastic on the bottom and around the hot plate was broken. They also said that they do not ship them without a Cuisinart box, that was why UPS must have done it. Also, when I asked for expedited shipping, they said they cannot do it even though I had waited over two weeks to receive a broken refurb. So I told the woman I was talking with to go ahead and finish the order, that I would like to talk to a supervisor afterward.
She said she would transfer me now and sent me to tech support, which no one was there at that time of the night. I was having my coffee and reading the paper when I heard a pop and then some noises.I looked at the pot and saw that it was steaming from the heating plate area. I unplugged it, but the steaming (and accompanying horrible smell) did not stop. So I took it outside, where it continued and finally stopped. It was scary, and like the others who complained, I feel fortunate to have been home and in the same room as the pot when this happened. Since it has an automatic shutoff set to two hours, I frequently leave the house with the pot on. I do not want a replacement; I would never use another one. It can't be a coincidence that this has happened to so many people. There has to be a design flaw, one that is dangerous.

Today, November 4, 2010, my coffeemaker started making noise and started smoking. It smelled like an electrical fire. I had to put the coffee pot outside the door. I bought the coffee maker a couple of months ago from Kohl’s. They better have a recall on this. I could have lost my house had I not been sitting at the kitchen table.

In April 2010, I purchased the Cuisinart DCC-1100 12 cup programmable coffee maker, and like countless others, this morning, mine too began making a loud gurgling noise (as if it was brewing again) then began billowing heavy smoke out of the bottom with a terrible burning smell. Almost 12 hours later and the smell still lingers.
I immediately started to research the problem and found that this is an all too common problem with multiple Cuisinart coffeemaker models. I have spent the entire day reading similar complaints and am sure there are many more out there. I too feel very lucky that I was home and in the kitchen when this occurred. I contacted Cuisinart and the customer service rep was kind and shocked that this occurred. Really? It is so offensive when people treat you as if you were born yesterday. I told her to Google Cuisinart fire and she'd get an education!
Anyway I got the same offer as others. I pay to send the self combusted unit back, and they will send me a new one. I explained that after everything I learned today that I did not want another fire hazard in my home and requested even a partial refund. She advised that was not an available option so I'm disputing the charge with my credit card company. I did tell her that after everything I learned about their coffee makers, they should be removed from shelves! Her response was "we need to receive complaints in order to do that". Again I say "really".
Shame on Cuisinart and shame on whichever agency regulates them that they have not forced them to recall such unsafe products. Does someone have to get hurt or worse first? Please if you read this, do not purchase these products and tell everyone you know about this issue.

I purchased a Cuisinart 12" skillet from TJ Maxx about a year ago. Being from a discount store, I knew that for the price, it was possibly a second. A blue material leaches out from the top sides of the pan. I have just taken it off when I wash it but I am concerned that it could be going into the pan or could be in the pan and I can't see it. I called Cuisinart customer service and the gal said that she had never heard of that and apologized, and told me I would have to send it in for analysis. I said it wasn't worth the money to do that. Nothing was resolved and I will just throw the pan away.

This is the second coffee maker that my daughter has bought me. She knows I wouldn't pay that much, as I am 72, and need money for other things. The first one started a leak and got worse with time, so I threw it away. Then she bought me this on A Coffee on Demand 12-cup Programmable Coffeemaker COD - 4000SA, with a Limited 3-year warranty for Christmas a couple of years ago. I haven't been able to use it the last several months (my husband passed away so I didn't take time to write you).
But when you try to turn it on, the light won't light up and work. It was getting where it would come on some times and at others it wouldn't work. Then one night, I smelled coffee and I went into the Kitchen. The coffeemaker was going. It did that several times. I would try to see if it worked and light up and I'd get nothing, then in the afternoon I heard to making coffee.

We have, over the last six years, purchased Cuisinart coffeemakers. Each one lasts only two years. At that point, water is no longer sucked up into the drip water emitter. We (architects) believe this is faulty engineering and should be posted in appliance reviews. A coffeemaker should not be built for obsolescence. The company emailed a response that we should try cleaning the machines (done per their instructions to no avail ages ago) and asked for our old warranties (come on, that's just delay. We'll give the actual machines instead!).

I immediately called Cuisinart and they were nice up until I told them that I would not pay shipping costs to send the coffee maker back to them!
Why should I pay? They soon rescinded and are sending me a new coffee maker. I'm to leave the burned up one on my porch in a box for a UPS driver to pick up. But now I'm really not sure that I want another one. I'll be afraid to use it! Maybe I'll just ask for my money back. Let's see how that's going to go over! No physical damage to my property. When I read what Cathy of Loomis, CA wrote in June of 2010, I thought I had written the article. This is exactly what happened to us this morning after making a pot of coffee. It had worked great since Feb 2010 (wow, not a long time) and then it fried itself. Cathy of Loomis, CA June 9, 2010, our Cuisinart Coffee Maker nearly started a fire in our kitchen this morning. The last couple of days we noticed the unit staying on even though the light turned off even minutes after brewing a pot, that didn't seem like a big thing. However this morning, about 10 minutes after making a fresh pot of coffee, the coffee maker started to make a lot of noise (gurgling, popping, crackling) then it started smoking and stinking. We thought it was going to burst into flames!
Even though the light indicated it was turned off, I ran over and unplugged it and took it outside. I think I did this just in time because it was really smoking a lot and the noise was getting louder and louder. The house was getting smokey and it was getting really smelly and stinky. It was really scarey. I feel really, really fortunate and thankful that someone was home to unplug this unit, because I am certain it would have started a fire! My kitchen still smells!
I called Cuisinart to report the incident and after pursuing the issue and then finally speaking with a supervisor, I found that they couldn't help me much because the unit is over 3 years old. I made it very clear to them that I was calling to report this incident because of a safety hazard with this product. If the unit had just stopped working, I obviously would not have been too concerned and would merely have gone out to purchase another one, but this situation could really have been deadly.
After speaking with customer service, I then reported this incident to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Underwriters Laboratories for review. I realize my coffee maker may be old and out of warranty, but I still would not have expected it to nearly catch my home on fire.

Immediately unplugged the coffee pot and carried it outdoors. Contacted Cuisinart and returned it for a replacement which was $9 shipping to return and another $10 for the replacement. Postage receipt dated 4/6/10.
On 5/8/10, I contacted Cuisinart to check on replacement and was advised that my returned package was opened in the warehouse on 4/26/10 and was being processed. On 5/19/10, called back and was advised that my sales receipt info was entered incorrectly and they would correct the purchase date and reprocess for the replacement to be sent. The replacement was received 6/1/10 and today the very same electrical smell and burning occurred in the replacement coffee pot. Both problems occurred approximately 30 minutes after the coffee had completed brewing. The coffee pot has an automatic turnoff after 2 hours. We received the Cuisinart DGB 650 model Grind and Brew for Christmas from my in-laws nine months ago. Last week, I went to make coffee and nothing happened. If it's plugged in, the on/off light is continuously on and none of the other buttons work at all, nor does the display clock. There is some condensation in the display, so I am assuming steam/vapor has gotten in there and shorted out the electrical components.
I have worked as a barista and know how to operate and maintain a coffeepot, and I know this is not user error! Even though it is overly complicated, I did clean the unit and all its components after every use, including wiping the steam out of the grinder when I have just brewed ground coffee. I tried to find any weakness in the seal where steam could get into the display, but from what I can tell it's solid plastic all the way around. After reading the horrific experiences with electrical fires on this site, I feel very fortunate that nothing worse has happened.
I'm really frustrated that my in-laws spent so much money on what was intended to be a very thoughtful gift, only for us to have to get rid of the thing 9 months later. I am not even going to bother trying to get a replacement. It's ridiculous for this company to expect the consumer to foot the bill for shipping both ways when it is their faulty product that is causing the trouble in the first place! To our consternation, the entire bottom of our coffee maker in and around the vents, below the heated element, has melted and is clearly an enormous fire hazard!
We will be contacting Cuisinart with a safety complaint. The CPSC and I will be dropping off the coffee maker at our local fire station for their perusal. This is completely unacceptable for Cuisinart to be knowingly selling products that are defective and a fire hazard in homes. Our coffee maker was in a well ventilated space, on granite countertops, just as you would expect any coffee maker to be positioned in a home. We lost our coffee maker and will not purchase another Cuisinart item. We will be taking photos and it’s time Cuisinart was forced to recall these items. Clearly, this type of complaint is common. But alas, a few weeks later and it's not turning on again. I recently noticed a similar complaint from Melinda of Gig Harbor, WA, August 18, 2010. If I may, I would like to share the response I received from the Cuisinart claims manager Pamela ** after they requested returning it for testing.
The reply states the following: "We have examined and tested your stick blender which we are herewith returning. The stick blender which is approved by Underwriter Laboratories is accompanied by an Instruction Booklet. The user of this appliance is specifically advised to use basic safety precautions and to follow the important safeguards that are stated. It is advised that the appliance be unplugged prior to cleaning the unit. There are several other warnings in the booklet applicable to this accident. Your accident was a most unfortunate one but we do not feel the injury you received is the responsibility of Cuisinart."

Then it began leaking small amounts of water on the counter. At first I thought I had just spilled while filling because it actually is a little difficult to fill. Next the machine stopped coffee operation. The light would go on and sometimes the machine would start coffee production and sometimes the machine would just sit and do nothing even though the brew button had been set. If left in the brew on position sometimes later in the day, the machine would start up and produce coffee all on it's own. Scary. After about a month of the on and off operations, the machine ceased completely.
I tried to return it to Macy's because it was still under warranty. No Luck! They would not take it. They told me to contact Cuisinart which I did. The Cuisinart agent agreed to take the machine back and send me another one. I really wanted to get my money back though. So since she said they would not give me my money back I agreed to take another DCC-2000. She also said that they would do this only one time. Hm? It took almost eight weeks to get it. Well, the foreboding hmmm? has happened. After about 10 months (I think) the replacement machine began leaking much the same as the last one but with the replacement the puddles were much larger. Coffee production was off and on like the other machine for only about three weeks. Then poof, the brew light would not go on and of course neither would the machine.

I will not buy another Cuisinart coffee maker. If you think you are getting something extra because Cuisinart offers a 3-yr. warranty, please think again. As I told the customer service rep., the internet is full of complaints about the (coffee on demand) models. I feel Cuisinart should have had a recall on this particular model. The Customer Service reps. I talked to argued this is their best seller. It may be their best seller, but, I bet more than half, if not more consumers have had problems with it.
Think twice before you invest in a Cuisinart coffee maker. Especially the Coffee on Demand. When my coffee maker worked, I was constantly cleaning up water off my counter top from a leakage problem. I don't usually waste my time writing a complaint about a problem with an appliance. It was well worth my time to leave this one.

The power is not going to the machine, electrical issue. Oh and Cuisinart wants me to pay to ship a new one here and also to ship my unit back to them. Are they crazy? Our Cuisinart Coffee Maker nearly started a fire in our kitchen this morning. The last couple of days, we noticed that the unit was staying on even though the light turned off even minutes after brewing a pot. That didn't seem like a big thing however, this morning, about 10 minutes after making a fresh pot of coffee, the coffee maker started to make a lot of noise (gurgling, popping, crackling). Then it started smoking and stinking. We thought that it was going to burst into flames!
Even though the light indicated it was turned off, I ran over, unplugged it and took it outside. I think I did this just in time because it was really smoking a lot and the noise was getting louder and louder. The house was getting smokey and it was getting really smelly and stinky. It was really scary. I feel really, really fortunate and thankful that someone was home to unplug this unit because I am certain it would have started a fire!
If the unit had just stopped working, I obviously would not have been too concerned and would merely have gone out to purchase another. But this situation could really have been deadly.
After speaking with customer service, I then reported this incident to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission and Underwriters Laboratories for review. I realized that my coffee maker may be old and out of warranty, but I still would not have expected it to nearly catch my home on fire.

I purchased a DCC-1200C Cuisinart Retro coffee maker on January 19, 2010. I returned the unit to the place of purchase, I have emailed Cuisinart directly. I am extremely concerned with this fire hazard as, had I not happened to go into the kitchen when I did, there is no doubt that the unit would have been in actual flames. London Drugs was fabulous about taking the unit back, and I purchased a Krupp’s. I am not being critical of Cuisinart at this point either as it is the weekend and they will not even get my email until the next business day. I simply want a consumer alert issued for this product. People program the thing to brew before they wake up in the morning. Our unit caught fire approximately 5 minutes after finishing a brew cycle. There is no window of time between brewing and catching fire.

I bought this coffemaker (Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker) just under three years ago. It was on the expensive side but I purchased it anyway assuming that the money would be well spent due to the many good reviews of this machine along with its attractive design. It worked well until the day it shut off after brewing a pot of coffee and died.
Since I was still within the three-year warranty period, I contacted Cuisinart. They instructed me to unplug it for 30 minutes and then plug it in again. I followed the instructions and still the same result. I tried different electrical outlets around my house and it still didn't power on. I contacted Cuisinart again and they told me that I would have to pay to ship it back and also pay $10.00 for the return shipping.
Here's the clincher: Cuisinart informed me that the replacement unit was guaranteed only from the date of purchase of the original defective machine that I was returning! So in other words, since I am almost out of warranty on the original unit, the replacement unit carries no guarantee! Why would I pay another $30.00 for shipping costs to return a machine that stopped working (without warning) through no fault of my own to receive another machine which can stop working at any time?
As a result of this experience, I don't have faith that the replacement will be without fault as well. If my suspicions prove true, then the replacement unit will serve to further clog our landfills since I won't even have the option to replace it according to Cuisinart. This is why I have labeled the Cuisinart Brew Central Model DCC-1200 a "disposable" coffeemaker.

The coffee pot (Model DCC-1100) came on as usual at 6:11 am. By 7 am, it started making noise, like sparking inside, and smoke started to come out of the back from where the cord enters. I unplugged it and moved it off my counter top to a cutting board, but it continued to smoke and make noise until I poured water in the back where the cord enters it. The smoke filled my kitchen and permeated throughout my home. It then created that burning plastic, burning wire smell. The paint on the heat plate burned off as well.
I was lucky that I was sitting right there. I was convinced that there would have been a serious fire. It was very scary. After work, I called Cuisinart and they immediately asked what physical damage occurred. As if they knew all about this, I told them just smoke and odor in my home. As soon as I said no flames, he said, oh just a puff of smoke! I got quite upset with them over that, minimizing what would have been a very serious issue! They offered to have me send it back to them and they would replace it or send me a Cuisinart credit. Since I would never own one of their coffee pots again, I took the credit. But not so easy, pack it up, they would pick it up, and then after they examine it, they will send me a credit. I'm not willing to go to all that trouble for their convenience, so I will return it to the department store where I purchased it, not more than 3 months ago. They (Macy's) were 100% apologetic and was very helpful on the phone. They will give me store credit for whatever I want to purchase.
As far as Cuisinart is concerned, I told them that they were lucky that I wasn't going to calling and tell them they caused my house to burn down. I found the call and customer service to be less than friendly, almost rude! They should recall these products. Cuisinart coffee pots cause fires! Within the month after I received them, the coating started peeling off the surfaces. I contacted my credit card company, and they took down all the information and stated someone would be getting back in touch with me to address the situation.
I waited and waited, but there's no call. I called back, and they would pull my records and saw that I had called. They apologized that no one called me back, took down more info, and once again, I was told someone would call me back. Again, the waiting game. Again, no one called back. Again, I called again to be told the same story again. This started in November 2009 and has continued over to 2010 to be told finally in January that I had to call the company direct. I was given a number to Cuisinart. I contacted them. This was my first time being told this.
I called and got a woman who would not give me her name, because she replied why she can't do anything for you. She informed me that at my expense, I had to send back the pots and pans for them to evaluate. If found not defective, I had to pay to have them sent back to me. I informed her that these were my only pots and pans to cook with. She told me I had to either buy a replacement set or send them back one pan at a time.
I told her I have three kids, two of which are disabled, and a husband. We need to eat. We are like everyone else. I have no money to send them back, let alone buy another set. If I did, I would have discarded this set and bought a new one. That is why I used my points from my credit card.
Needless to say, that was the end of the phone call. She stated I had these two choices. I found this to be outrageous. Everyone is doing the best they can using things like points, coupons, etc., etc., just to make ends meet. I have defective pots and pans; their coating is coming off. I have been jacked around from the credit card on to the company.
Needless to say, I do not use my credit card anymore. I believe that is the reason why they would not help me out; they never sent my complaint. I have been trying to resolve this situation. You set the time and brew time, and a short while later, it has reverted to the 12PM initial setting. Even if you wait until you get up, and manually turn it on, the auto off timer may set itself to zero, and turn your coffee off, as soon as it is finished. This thing is now a piece of stainless steel junk in my kitchen.
The customer service rep told me that it was now out of warranty, and they would not replace the unit. Note that this unit retails for $100. It should not have this type of failure in 18 months. I don't know if others have had similar problems, but two units failing the same way in about the same time period, may not be a large sample, but for me it is a 100% failure rate, and is indicative of some kind of major quality problem with the clock/timer chip. Sent back for replacement. Waited nine weeks. Got the replacement, put it on the shelf for six months. Pulled it out. It ground half of coffee and again the motor burned out. Turns out the warranty goes back to the original unit, not the replacement.
So my replacement basically has no warranty! Never will I buy any product under any circumstances from them. Warranty on replacement should have been valid for one year since replaced, not one year from purchase of the first defective unit. Obviously, their warranty only protects them, not their customer. Luckily, we were home, awake, and have granite countertops. As I investigate further, it is apparent that you are aware of this problem with your product and have done nothing, not even warning the people who have bought your product to unplug it when it's not in use.
This is a health and safety issue that needs to be addressed promptly. At this point, when the product is causing property loss and before serious physical injury, is the time to take care of the issue. If someone is harmed by this product, and it's known that you knew and did nothing, it puts a steep liability issue in the hands of a court room.

I'm a barista at a coffee shop up the street from our little ash heap, so we haven't even actually used the product in about three weeks; the coffee pot remained plugged in solely for the convenience of the clock.
When I called, at first, the woman was very rude to me and explained to me (in a very ugly and bothersome tone) that to help me, she would need my model number. After she realized what had occurred, she was very apologetic, but still not very helpful. She said that she could submit a claim to corporate and they would contact me in two to three business days, but my life was ripped away from me, I want to talk to someone now!
I did notice on the Cuisinart website that they have not formally recalled the product that we owned but did discontinue it. They were unable to locate our registration card to add to the pile of insufferable inconveniences.
Please unplug your coffee makers, even if it says that it is safe otherwise. We found out the hard way how easily it is to become a statistic in a corporate risk analysis.

I recently received a Cuisinart DGB-900 series Automatic Burr Grind Thermal Coffeemaker. I owned a grind and brew basic coffeemaker with glass pot and loved it. I thought I would upgrade and purchase a newer model and thought it would also be fabulous. I have followed the directions and pre-programmed the new item thinking I would wake up in the morning to a fresh brewed pot of coffee and found out just the opposite. My previous maker could also be pre-programmed and when I got up in the morning, I had a steaming hot cup of coffee. Thinking that this Burr and Grind would really keep my coffee hot, I discovered that the previous maker had a heating plate and a glass pot. This new unit has a "resting plate" not a heating plate, and the only way to keep this coffee hot is to preheat the thermal pot prior to making a new pot. Pre-programming makes this impossible; therefore, the pre-programming is neither useful nor practical.
When I called Cuisinart, I was told that the "only way to keep coffee hot with this model is to preheat the pot and not pre-program." The book of instructions never mentioned the problem with keeping coffee hot when it is brewed before waking in the morning. I was also told that the glass pot model does have a "heating" unit and this model does not. I am stuck with a unit costing $189.00 and no receipt to return it to the store. I loved Cuisinart but this unit is not what it is stated to be.

I had a Cuisinart Grind & Brew and had nothing but trouble with it. When I poured the coffee, it ran down my arm and onto the counter. It never beeped when the coffee was ready. The cord had a short in it, etc. Cuisinart would not help me out other than have me send in the coffeepot to them, pay the postage myself and wait at least 8-10 weeks for a replacement or for it to be repaired. I didn't want a repaired one so I decided to take it back to the store where I bought it 5 months prior. I had the original sales receipt and the store gave me my money back with no questions asked. The store told me all they have to do is submit the claim to Cuisinart and they will be reimbursed for the coffeemaker. I only tell you this because if you still have the receipt and are having problems, try taking the coffeemaker or other Cuisinart product back to the store for a refund or replacement.

We have purchased two Cuisinart products. One is the Cuisinart Coffee pot model DCC 2000. The other is the Cuisinart Griddler. We have had the coffee pot for approximately 4 months before it stopped working. Cuisinart related that they would send us a new one in 8-10 weeks. They wanted us to cut off the cord due to it being a fire hazard. It has been 14 weeks now, and still no new coffee pot. Our Griddler malfunctioned and the bottom cover plate fell off exposing the wires. Apparently, the unit overheats and melted the bottom plastic of the unit. Cuisinart again told us that they would send out a replacement unit. They wanted us to mail them this bad unit at first but agreed to send the new one first. We are still waiting for both replacements. I feel that both units are a fire hazard and can start a fire. I have photos of the Griddler and they can be emailed to you. Please help. The products need to be recalled before they cause a problem or fire.

I got Cuisinart coffeemaker, self-grinder with carafe pot, as a gift from my elderly mother. All this pot does is drip coffee all over my counters and ruined my grout. I called Cuisinart and they are terrible with customer service. They could care less. When I mentioned my problem, the CSR seemed to know exactly the problem; that so many people have this problem with the lid and the stopper that they are on backorder for the parts. I was told I could pay them more money and when they get more parts, they will send it out to me all at additional costs to me. I told them I didn't have these troubles with Mr. Coffee and they hung up on me.
