I got several quotes from moving companies and Colonial Van Lines came in at mid-range. I always go with the mid-range price. The Colonial Van Lines rep who I dealt with was awesome and very helpful. She called me on a Friday and asked if they could pick my stuff up a day earlier than I had asked, which was actually more convenient for me. It was the day after Christmas and I didn't ask for that day because I figured that would not be a good day for the moving company. But it worked out great. Colonial Van Lines was able to move me in using a small truck because where I was moving, it would not accommodate a large truck. They did not charge me extra for that. The account manager was good and he called me several times to see how things were going. I appreciated that.
With the help of the staff at Colonial, I was very prepared during the pick-up and delivery of my stuff. The expectations set by the rep were off but it was my fault. I estimated 30 boxes, and it turned out to be 40 something boxes, which was a lot more than I had anticipated. Nevertheless, the moving crew was very good. They came in within 15 minutes when they said they would be there. At the day that they delivered the stuff, they were here again within 15 or 30-minute timeframe of when they said they would be here. Colonial Van Lines was very good and I would recommend them.

We were moving from Washington to Connecticut and Colonial Van Lines was just the moving company that could get me a set up the fastest so that I don't have to wait a month or two. It was a small move as it was about 5,000 pounds. The moving coordinator who helped me was okay, but he was off by about 1,500 pounds. So, it was a lot more expensive than I was planning on originally, but we made it work. The aftercare coordinator person who took over after the initial estimate was good. She tried to stay in touch and made sure everything was going all right.
However, it was frustrating that she wasn't able to get the movers to show up and leave on time. They were a day and a half late and then took three to four hours to get everything done, so I missed a day of work on the other side of my trip. Then, they showed up six days after schedule and just kept pushing it. The movers themselves were efficient although I had a couple of things damaged on the back ends which were small and I didn't really wanna deal with it. They also kept trying to stack on extra fees that I hadn't agreed to.

My experience with Colonial Van Lines was excellent. I moved from Massachusetts to Florida and everything went very smoothly. The sales rep helped me right through it and she was very knowledgeable. I was informed from the beginning until the end. It was amazing how fast it was from the time they picked everything up until the time it was delivered. Everything was perfect during delivery and the guy who took care of it was really good too. Colonial Van Lines is doing everything well and they should keep doing what they're doing. I'd definitely recommend them.

We were only moving a handful of pieces and Colonial Van Lines was more willing to be able to handle very small loads. Their basic start-up price was a little smaller too. Colonial is more like a jobber than running their own van lines, so they can find smaller companies that are willing to take a smaller load that's why it worked for us so well. The load went from Los Altos to Arizona and an even smaller load came from Los Altos, California to Toledo, Ohio area. The moving coordinator did an excellent job. Once the estimate was made and the number of things was counted, there were no additional charges.
They also did a great job wrapping things and not one thing was broken in either job when it arrived. All the groups of people were very polite and very business-like. They did a great job putting things back together for us, although communication was a little hard with R&R because they were not 24/7, so sometimes, I had to wait or email to get a hold of them. Through Colonial, however, I could usually get a hold of them a lot faster, even though there was really no reason, just estimates of when they might be here. The drivers were good about calling and giving us an estimate when they would be here. For the small loads, Colonial was a good company to go with and it worked well.

Once I got the process going and talked about my quote and the next steps, the people at Colonial were very helpful in pinpointing and being very clear in what to expect in each of the different areas of moving. They made moving very convenient especially with using the GetGo app to take pictures of everything. It helped put everything in perspective and in one place. Then their person was able to call me and kind of walk through each of the pictures to make sure that I didn't miss any of my items.
It was a long move from Florida to Maryland, but the thing that was really special and stood out was they had packing services too. That was very nice and it wasn't that much of an additional cost, so I had them do the packing as well. The setup was great although it was kind of difficult because there were so many different people to touch points with. We had one person who initiated the quote, and then another person who helped me in between the move and the actual move date. One person was my contact for the move date as well as the mover, and then there were the budgeting people. It got confusing. If I had questions, I wasn't sure who to reach out to. Although Colonial was always good about putting me in contact with the correct person, having a main contact person from beginning to end would be very helpful so nothing gets missed through the cracks.
There were times when tensions got a little high, but that was just the stress of moving. The date for my move got pushed back because their truck was not working, and then I had requested a smaller truck because one, I didn't have a lot of stuff, and two, I wasn't sure if they would be able to fit in certain areas for where I was moving. But they didn't send the correct size of the truck, so they had issues getting into certain spaces for the move. The services were very accurate, nevertheless, and the move was very easy and fast. The people who had packed up my stuff did a really great job. I have some furniture that is kind of antique, and they were careful with it. Overall, it was a very efficient experience for a pretty decent price, so definitely, I would recommend Colonial.

We were making a two-state move. The lady rep that I originally dealt with at Colonial Van Lines was very clear about the moving services that they were providing. The moving coordinator's thoroughness and straightforwardness sold me on Colonial. She explained the way they did the move and she was not sales pitchy but just honest. As for the moving crew, they were very gentlemanly, courteous, professional, and thorough. The only issue I had was that they said they would be there at a certain time and they were an hour late both times, but they called to let us know that they were gonna be late. Despite that, their service was great so that was not a big deal. In fact, I just referred Colonial to somebody else who moved here.

I was moving a car and items from my home from Colorado to Oregon. Donna, the coordinator that I was on the phone contact with, was great. She was in touch and always communicating. She would call me and let me know if there were any updates which was good. Her quote was pretty much the same too. The actual move was great. The moving crew was a bit rough with my stuff though and not everything was covered. My couch was full of debris, dust and leaves because it was not clearly covered. My little dining table was scratched on the corner. But the guy was nice and he came at 7:30 PM because they wanted to do an early pickup. So after work, I spent the time from 7:30 to 9:45 helping him move things because he was just by himself, which was kinda strange. It was the first time I used a moving company, and I expected a team of two or three to come and bang this out quick, but that wasn’t the case. So I felt bad for the guy.
They also wanted to move the delivery window being that they had moved the pickup date. It was stressful because I told them specifically that when they pick up the stuff, I wouldn't be in Oregon yet because I would be in Colorado. I was flying the next two days to Oregon to find an apartment. But they wanted to show up a day before, which gave me 24 hours to find a place, which was impossible. They showed up literally on the first day of the window, so I had 48 hours to find an apartment. I asked Donna if we could figure something out, like move the date, but they were having none of it and they said they would be there at 10:00 AM on Thursday. So I flew into Oregon on Tuesday, and I had to sign the lease on Wednesday night.
I feel like Colonial contracts people out and they just organize the move, but they’re not the people that actually do the move. I’m pretty sure that in my case, they set everything up and then they passed it on to a local Colorado company that they hired that gets the move done. I went through Colonial to move my stuff, and these guys from Morales Movers showed up at my door. I was expecting a Colonial Van Line van or truck to come, but then this random budget truck came with this random guy in there. The guy barely spoke English. Maybe Colonial could contract out to a better company or proof the people they hire.
I wish the moving guy was a bit more equipped to be able to better care of my furniture because ultimately, you’re asked to buy insurance or not buy insurance. Obviously, the chances that something is gonna happen to your stuff is minimal, in a sense, so you don’t buy insurance. It’s like 60 cents per pound or per article, and it's kinda weird. So, if I lose a big table, or I get a scratch up on my table, even if it’s a 100-pound table, I'll get $6. It’s just like you don’t wanna buy the insurance. It's not really worth it. Still, overall, as far as the experience from Colonial per se and the organization of things, I’ll use their service again.

Donna with Colonial Van Lines, called me, was polite and helpful, and we came to a good resolution.
Original Review: Jan. 30, 2019
Everyone at Colonial was very polite and kind at the beginning. They wanted to give me good service, and Veronica, the manager, gave me a really good price. I said I wanna move on January 2nd. I could have the movers come on the 2nd, have the cleaning lady come on the 3rd and then have my car shipped either the 2nd or the 3rd, so nothing was stressful. But she originally said the move would be on the 2nd or the 3rd. Looking back, my impression is that all along it was the 3rd but to get my business, I was told that it would be on the 2nd.
I lived in Florida, and on the very last week of December, when I had everything in order for the move, Colonial called and told me that the movers said they could not move me on the 2nd and it had to be the 3rd. But I was leaving at 12 noon on the 3rd to go to Tampa airport because I was flying out that afternoon. They said the movers would come early on the 3rd, and I said okay. As time went on, however, something came up about my car and it was not gonna be transported as planned. The guy was supposed to get it before I left but he was not coming until after that. So, I had to get a paper through my email from Colonial and printed it out and signed as my sister, who lived in the next apartment building in Florida to be able to sign for the car. Then the car man was a day late, and it was a hassle for my sister.
I talked to so many people on the phone, and a service person said that she would be with me when the movers come. She would call me while the movers are with me on the truck, to see if there is anything going on. My husband now, who was my fiancé then, was living in Shreveport, Louisiana and I was staying there until my furniture arrived in Bossier City. I got a call that the movers will be there on Sunday and I planned to be there. Then I got a call saying the movers are gonna be here Saturday afternoon instead. But he had a doctor's appointment and we had other things planned, so we had to cancel that and be here with the movers. Then when the movers came, nobody called me to be with me, so I called Colonial and tried to get in touch with somebody because here I had to sign the final bill. But being that it was a Saturday afternoon and Colonial’s office was closed, nobody was there to help me although I was told they would.
The service person that I talked to before said that when the movers come and deliver my furniture in Louisiana, she would be calling me. She told me not to sign anything with the movers until I talk with her. However, none of the things that she said would happen, happened. The movers got finished and got everything, and they charged me $1,000 more than they estimated. And because I had to leave in 10 minutes and they had my furniture, I signed.
As for the first company that Colonial dealt with to transport my car, their truck broke down and Colonial had to get another company. At first, I could not have the phone number of the driver that's bringing my car but I was told that they were gonna be there between 9:00 and 6 o'clock. We drove for about 30 minutes from Shreveport to Bossier City, and we waited from 9:00 to 7:00, but the driver didn't show up. So we called Colonial’s office at 9:00 o'clock in the morning the next day, and the rep told us that she just talked to the driver and he would be here by 3:30 that second day. I asked them to give me the driver's name and phone number, and they did. In case he didn't show up, it'd be good for me to call him because we had to go back to Shreveport.
We waited until 3:30 for my car to be delivered, but the driver couldn’t make it. My husband talked to him and he said he would be there between 8:30 and 9:00 that evening instead. But then the driver said he would rather deliver my car the next morning at 9:30. That way, it would be daytime and we could see if there were scratches. The bottom line was there was not enough communication. I was left on my own when the movers in Florida picked up my furniture. When they moved my furniture here, I had nobody to talk to and say that they were charging me too much. But once my husband got to talk to the driver the next day, he was the nicest guy. The car was in great shape and I was so happy that finally that was all over with.
There were a few things that were broken when our furniture was delivered, but I didn't want the hassle of going through a report. We just hired a handyman to fix them. It wasn't that much money anyway, and the movers were very nice. But they had driven through the night so they were tired. They had talked to Colonial Van Lines that I had complained that it was too much money and about the packing, so they took a bit of money off for the boxes. My husband said Colonial should compensate me for the inconvenience and the stress, and for not communicating. At this point, I'm not gonna recommend them but if I could get something back, that would make me happy.

It was frightening to choose a cross country mover and I was convinced that I wasn't going to find one that I could trust. I've gotten about five different quotes, and the pricing seemed to be within an acceptable range. Then on Black Friday, I got another long series of follow up calls from Natasha of Colonial Van Lines. She convinced me that I should trust them, and she was right. I had enough confidence talking with her and the way she described the company's approach that I said I was gonna move forward with them.
My daughter was moving from Philadelphia to California. It was just a one bedroom apartment to a one bedroom apartment. Everything was already in a storage locker, so moving everything out didn't take a lot of time. I sent pictures of the storage locker from which they estimated. Everything was going to be subject to weighing once the truck is loaded, but we didn't go with that option. It was kind of like the toss of a coin as to whether that was going to change the price significantly. So, when they picked it up, I told them to just go with the estimated amount. I handled the pick-up and my daughter was already in California. As far as the delivery, it ended up coming together in unlimited number of days because she moved to a new apartment. There was an address change at the last minute, and we delayed the delivery. When we got that resolved, however, the actual delivery was made in a very acceptable amount of time.
I have zero regrets of making that decision to go with Colonial as far as their responsiveness, responsibility and care. Everybody I spoke to in the organization said that they take things very seriously because they take their reputation very seriously. Everybody was really nice, and 98% of the communications were really beneficial. There were times when there were some unknown and gaps in follow up, but it wasn't anything serious. Overall, if I had to do it over again, I would skip wasting my time researching 10 different companies, and I would just call Colonial again. Those are good words of satisfaction. The service wasn't perfection, but it was definitely excellent.

I'd recommend Colonial Van Lines. We looked at two other moving companies, but we ended up landing with Colonial. The first person we talked to was very nice and informative. The moving coordinator was there when I needed him, although we didn't hear from him much towards the end because he had an assistant and staff call me. But for the most part, the interaction was good and about 98% of the services and expectations set went the way they thought it would.
The move was from Nashville, Tennessee to Denver, Colorado and it was a little difficult because it was my daughter moving. It was apartment to apartment, so it made it hard for the truck, but everything worked out. I got a lot of calls before the move to confirm stuff and it was repetitious. I was grateful, though, that there was that thing, but it was a little overkill. We were very prepared for the movers when they arrived. However, their communication was weak. They gave me estimated times, but those times came and went and I had to contact them to get new times. That was the most frustrating thing.
We were told somebody was gonna be there at 11:00, but I still hadn't heard from them at 12:00. I called and they said, "It'll be two more hours." They finally arrived at 5 o'clock in the afternoon. They need to do a better job. If they are gonna tell somebody the time, they have to be really sure. My whole day was shot. I could’ve done a lot of other things during the day, getting prepared for the move and doing a lot of things. It was really a wasted day and that was my biggest complaint. But once they got there, they were good and quick. They were very friendly and very professional, and they packed everything really well. They did a great job with that.

When we had to move from Maryland to California for personal and professional reasons, we chose Colonial Van Lines. I liked Tom's persistence. He was the first rep I called and he kept checking in with me to see if I had made a decision. I got some other estimates, shared some information and he updated his estimate. He worked the hardest to get the contract. Also, the movers were terrific. They were really knowledgeable, professional and extremely helpful. They came the day that they were gonna come but they came later than I thought. They kept me updated as to the time that they would arrive though and they worked very hard to get everything loaded. They arrived around 5:00 and were packed up, loaded, and gone by about 9:00.
They also helped me do a couple of additional boxes I hadn’t anticipated and told me they could handle it for me. The move took about two and a half weeks from beginning to end as they had to go cross countries. They showed up within the window Colonial advertised. It was a day earlier than they said they would, which worked out even better. The unloading was quick and efficient. It took two hours and I got all my stuff, but there was a box of somebody else’s goods. I reported that and no one has gotten back to me on that issue. That aside, I experienced really good customer service and professionalism and I would go with them again.

We bought some property a couple of years ago and we were building on it. Our builder wanted us down here while he was building, so we moved. Colonial Van Lines had a good reputation and I knew about their company a little bit so we went with them. The service and expectations set by the rep were accurate and it was fine dealing with him. The account manager was very polite and I had no problems at all. I was not very prepared during the time pf pickup and delivery but the movers were great. I would go out of my way to recommend Colonial Van Lines.

Colonial Van Lines wasn't the cheapest price but it seemed like they were reputable. I considered their quote versus some of the others that were lower or a lot higher. Plus they had decent reviews. The representative I dealt with also turned the quote around real fast and it was close to what it ended up being in the end so that was good. The expectation she set was also really accurate and that was why I went with them. She seemed to know what she was doing versus some of the others that were a little more wishy-washy. She was pretty direct. Even the experience with the account manager was the same. So that was a good experience and I was prepared during the pickup and the delivery.
The moving crew were really nice guys. My one recommendation would be, when you're in a high-rise condo where there are really defined windows for moving, that you get there on time. I don't think that was their fault. They were coming from another job and they were probably an hour and something late but it was still within the window that they gave us for timeframe. But it chewed into the evening. If it was a building where I didn't know all the maintenance people, I probably would have gotten fined because we didn't get out of there until 9 o'clock at night. That's something that might cause issues with other the people. But they were good guys overall. They were careful. They passed everything and were friendly. They did a real good job.

I thought Colonial Van Lines was a national company and I didn’t know they didn’t even own their own trucks. They are also contracted out. If I had known that, I wouldn’t have gotten to them. I’ve had my date on their book about six weeks and I put a deposit of over $500, so I was guaranteed a truck when I needed it. However, I didn’t get that. Originally, we were supposed to have a truck on Saturday, then they called Friday night and said that the truck would be there between 12:00 o’clock and 1:00 o’clock. It was okay. We were ready to go. I was due to leave my house and leave for Texas on Tuesday, but an hour before they got there, I got a call from the dispatcher and he said that they changed the date. He said, “Lady, basically, you’re not getting a truck today. You’re not getting a truck on Monday and you might not get a truck on Tuesday,” an hour before they were supposed to be there.
Colonial Van Lines didn’t offer me anything. They said, “Oh, normally, we give you $30 a day.” I said, “No. I thought I get 50 out of them at Oregon.” They should give me at least 500 back because I was moving from California to Texas and it was not a local move. They were not helpful and they didn’t care. I had to redo all my plans. I had people that I was flying back. They were gonna help us move out. Their schedules would’ve changed and I had a chance of losing all my help because Colonial decided an hour before that I wasn’t gonna get my truck as scheduled. They didn't stay behind what they promised. They said something about a house that didn’t close on time. They went somewhere else and they were gonna go back and get those people in Arizona because the house wasn’t ready to move. They should’ve put it at the end of the line. If it wasn’t ready, then they should move on.
The only good thing on the whole move was that the agents they sent were really good. They really worked hard, while Colonial didn’t do a thing to help me. The guys that loaded my furniture were very helpful and very nice. They did everything and bent their backs over. They were awesome. However, they were contracted and they had nothing to do with Colonial Van Lines. Had I known what I’ve known, I would fly past Colonial and call them directly. I got nothing but bad words for Colonial and they know it. I’ve ripped them more than once when they called. I wouldn’t go back with them.
The experience was awful and it was a nightmare. I have five parrots and two cats. I already had people helping and we had to drive all the way straight through 1,400 miles. I had all that arranged ahead of time and coordinated that once the furniture left, we were gonna give it a day and get out the next day, but Colonial put that drive in jeopardy because they decided to move my date. Everything went as planned, nonetheless, and it turned out okay.

I was gonna use PODS, and I thought that would be the cheaper way out and do it on my own schedule. But I had an inquiry into one of those online moving sites and then I happened to get a call from one of Colonial Van Lines' guys. He asked if he could shoot me a price on doing everything and I let him, and it turned out that he was a little bit cheaper than the pod situation. His assistance was really good. I was very satisfied. The movers were on time during the pick-up and delivery, and we were expecting them. And, we were all prepared. My wife packed up a lot of stuff by the previous night. They said they'd be there the 20th, and they said they'd be dropping off on the day after Christmas. And they were true to that schedule, and everything went really well. I'm very happy with the whole process and the pricing. There weren't any price gouging or add-ons that were unexpected.

I moved with Colonial Van Lines considering their price and availability. The move was 14-hour drive for our whole household and they were going to come in and help us get everything packed all our stuff. They took a lot of care and got everything intact and wrapped. The person who helped us with the move was fantastic. We had set up to have it delivered one day but I called them three days before the move for some changes, and they were able to postpone it for a couple of days.

We researched on the internet and Colonial came out good so I thought I’d give them a try. We moved back to Nashville from San Jose, California to be closer to the kids and Colonial Van Lines did a good job. Everything went very well, as advertised. Their reps communicated very effectively in all stages. They were very responsive and they did a very good job of keeping me informed about everything. We got some follow-up too. The movers came out on schedule and worked their butts off getting everything loaded and wrapped up properly. Everything was delivered and seems to have arrived safely. We’re still unpacking out here and we haven’t found anything broken or lost yet.

I don't really post bad reviews, try to see all sides of the story, as bad as things might have been with any company I have worked before. However, I had such a bad experience with Colonial Van Lines, that they really deserve this review. Stay away from this company! Hire a cheaper competitor, because what they seem to stand for is: profit, lies and complete lack of customer service!
I moved from CA to WA ( job ID: **, you should know who I am!) at the end of last year, and here are my issues: Why was I not made aware that we can do cubic feet vs weight? One of the driver told me so, and he said he would have suggested that, considering how many heavy items we had, it would have been cheaper for us. So I was presented with one option - the most expensive and profitable for the company! Also, I was sold on the idea that Colonial Van Lines, unlike some cheaper alternatives do not outsource the delivery trucks. Our move was outsourced, although the company was great, it was a complete lie that they do not do that.
The movers were about the most pleasant experience out of the entire process. Minus the broken items, and trash they left on the drop off location, everything else was fine. I am not sure why we were left with an account manager that was off during our move, so I was left dealing with rude customer service, and dispatchers to communicate with me.
Here is my list of complaints: 1. I scheduled my move and paid deposit about a month before it, for a specific date. The week of my move the account manager tells me it may not happen on Friday, 12/28, but the next day. Why was not aware from the start that this is a possibility? I would have scheduled my move differently, there were specific reasons we scheduled it for that Friday.
2. That Friday I spoke with the account manager, who said the driver will be calling me. That never happened, and I was told the driver will be over between 10am-2pm the next morning, on Saturday. The next morning, with still no call from the driver by 10 am, I called customer service. They called me back, saying that the driver will be coming between 12pm-3pm. I spoke with a super rude lady on customer service (Stephanie), who condescendingly kept saying she can't give me the driver's number. At the same time the driver called, and said they will be coming over between 4-4:30. And I can call him at any time if there were issues. Finally, at almost 5pm the drivers finally came, and they were loading until after 9pm.
3. We had to be up all night cleaning the apartment, and didn't leave until 2pm the following day, because the move got pushed so late. We planned on leaving that Saturday, and arriving on Sunday. I was supposed to be at work on Monday, 12/31, but I had to take a day off, and inconvenience my entire work team, because we had to be on the road driving, we needed to vacate the apartment. 4. The movers called that they will deliver on 1/2, which again got pushed the next day. It would have been nice for them to have clear picture of where they need to be when, so they don't give us the incorrect dates.
If I were to do it all over again, I would have done it myself, or hire someone else. Thanks to Colonial Van Lines, I will probably never hire movers again. I went with you, Colonial Van Lines, because of reputation. I accepted the fact that you are more expensive, but I rather pay, and have peace of mind that a reputable company is helping me out, than to worry about it. And that didn't happened. I worried, nothing was on schedule, it was way too expensive, a piece of really expensive equipment arrived broken, and it's a complete joke that you are giving me $0.60 per pound on a $3k canvas printer.
I paid for a shuttle service and I requested my money back. I was told that since there was a 36ft truck that came to pick up my stuff (and this is the shuttle), and not the 18 wheeler initially schedule, I will not get my money back, because "if there was the 18 wheeler to be used, I would have needed that". Are you serious? So, I essentially paid for both, without the need for one of them.
I reached out several times after the move with my complaints to my account manager and various other people involved in my move. I specifically asked to have a call scheduled on a set time, since I started to receive calls through the workday. That never happened, people were calling whenever it was convenient for them. I was told by couple of people that I won't get my money back because of the ridiculous excuse mentioned above, the last lady I spoke to I told that she is upsetting me, and all she said is "We won't bother you anymore". So all communications stopped. I don't know what's your policy at resolving customer issues, it seems to be "I will just argue with them until they get upset, and then will drop them". Thank you for ruining my first moving experience, Colonial Van Lines!

I was moving because of work and I liked Colonial Van Lines' cost, and then I found out that they’re good and they’re just around the corner from where I live now. The moving coordinator was very knowledgeable and understood everything that I had. Colonial likes to send somebody out, but I wasn’t able to do that because I was already in Florida, which is where I’m at now. And it was a long distance move, so there was no way I could meet anybody. They took the inventory by email, from what I sent them. It ended up being overestimated, so I got money back which is great. The services and expectations set were very accurate.
The driver, Anthony, was fantastic and I liked his personality. He also knew what he was doing. He wrapped the furniture in ways I’d never seen before. The productivity of the team was decent as well, but the ones in Florida were better than the ones I had back in Kentucky. In Kentucky, the driver ended up having to try and find a crew. If it was just Anthony doing all of it, he could have probably done it faster. I had some damages, but it was a long distance move so it’s expected. I called Colonial about it and they immediately sent me a claim form. I’m in the process of filling that out and sending it in. I would recommend Colonial Van Lines for sure.

Colonial Van lines still has our stuff from a Dec 26 pickup. It is now Jan 18 and the last day on our contract is Jan 20. Colonial Van Lines is telling us Jan 21-23 and our stuff is in Texas. They have hung up on me and have not been able to offer ANY ASSISTANCE. I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone. They are dishonest and do not care about inconveniencing their customers. On top of everything...you must continually call them. They never call you to check in things. Just awful.

I went to a couple of moving companies and then, by looking at the reviews, I decided to go with Colonial Van Lines. It was a horrible experience. When I opened my boxes, at least four boxes were full of trash, papers or useless things. I threw everything out of it. Then, the condition of the boxes looked like someone mishandled it badly. The boxes were opened and someone has gone through all our stuff, then took whatever they like and then, packed it back again. Out of 62 boxes, I received 41 boxes and 21 boxes were missing. I lost all my valuables including the TV, XBOX, all my handbags, wristwatches and whatever you can count for the valuable stuff.
I received my stuff on December 15 and since then, my husband and I have been in contact with Colonial Van Lines. We were dealing with them and they agreed to pay a compensation but it was only half of the amount we have lost. The first serious call I have received was a few days after my husband put a review on Yelp but before that, no one took this thing seriously.

My experience: I was given a quote at the beginning of my experience - just to be told by the movers (on the day of moving) that the price was incorrect and I had to pay MORE than what the customer service rep quoted me - due to weight. Mind you, nothing changed since the last time I spoke to the customer rep. So the price Should have been the same (not to mention the rep told me that even if I added a few things - which I did not - I should still be under the same quote umbrella). The movers said the information I was given was incorrect and I had to pay the difference...so, I did. They also told me that I had to pay for proper wrapping of certain items - regardless of the customer service rep telling me everything was included in the price he originally gave me...so, I DID.
My furniture not only ended up coming late (it took about a month for my furniture to arrive), but parts Missing as well as almost every large piece was Damaged (dents, rubbed areas as well as cracks). This happened late last year and because of the missing furniture I do not have a bed to sleep on - just a mattress with a headboard laying up against the wall...and my furniture is not even 2 years old. I am not a fan or writing negative reviews, but this experience needed to be shared. Hopefully this will direct other potential customers to better decision making (unlike myself) as well as push this company to do better.

Original Review: Jan. 17, 2019
I originally found Colonial Van Lines online while researching other options. Upon showing interest I was hounded day after day to chose them to be my movers. I explained that my company was moving me so I would need time to set up arrangements as well as explore other options but I was consistently contacted via email and phone. I eventually settled with Colonial and was given a quote of about $2600 to move from Virginia to Massachusetts, which seemed like a good deal. I talked to multiple people and told them the items that I had and they said they would send an 18 wheeler to my location and to make sure there was enough room to get an 18 wheeler in, to which I said no problem. I was told someone would contact me during the time the movers came and would ensure that everything was going smoothly.
Moving day came and instead of an 18 wheeler 2 vans showed up. Needless to say they could not fit all of my items and the driver suggested leaving behind "anything I didn't need", which was not an option, or find a way to move it myself. I had to at the last minute find a Uhaul and bring many of my items myself, in which case if I had to do that, why was I paying for movers? Upon delivery items were broken and their $2600 estimate turned into almost $7,000. Which through my company for a loop and caused a whole lot of frustration on their end. I talked to a representative at Colonial and told them that there were broken items, no one contacted me during my move to see how things were, and how I had to rent a Uhaul because they sent 2 vans instead of the 18 wheeler they had promised me they would send.
Nothing was really said about my broken items, I was told no one is in the office on Sundays, thus no call (which was not explained to me when they were attempting to get my business), and in terms of the Uhaul they said no one told me to get a Uhaul so that was a decision that I made on my own. I explained that the driver that they contracted did tell me to get a Uhaul and not sending the appropriate vehicle caused me to have to go that route. After all of the hassle that was caused I asked for the $500 expense for the Uhaul be reimbursed to me and I was told no. Overall an awful experience and I would suggest anyone looking to move to find another option. There are other similar reviews out there about them, and I wish I had seen them before I used them.

This is the first time I’ve ever moved and I had no idea, so I checked some information and took a couple of rates, and Colonial Van Lines sounded fine. The moving coordinator was fine. However, a lot of stuff was broken like the legs off of furniture, and they didn’t say anything. I had someone here and if they would have let me know they were broke, they could have fixed it right away instead of putting them back in the corner and me finding out about it later. Also, I’m missing a printer but they had two jobs on it and I’m sure nobody would just take a printer. They just got it mixed up with the other move.
The account manager would call every once in a while. He called about two days after I moved and he wanted to set up for the arrival of my stuff. I said, “Well, they got here two days ago.” He was okay. He wasn't really on top of it. But I had no problems with the workers at all. I wish they had said something about the thing that have been broken but they were fine, so I would use them again.

I started reading about the different companies on Colonial's site and what they were saying, and I liked what Colonial said. I was moving from El Paso, Texas to Washington state and with Colonial Van Lines, it was an exceptional move. The quote was fair and I was very prepared. I was already here in the State of Washington during the pickup but there was another girl there and before I left, I made sure that they knew what was supposed to be picked up. We started some time in October and my stuff came before Christmas. There was a delay of weeks in moving my furniture but it did not have anything to do with Colonial. It was that they couldn’t get a driver that was gonna drive from Texas to here. So I had to wait to get my furniture but they were very good about it. They called me almost everyday to say they were sorry or that they had gotten someone. I've never quite seen customer service like that before.

I was originally from Virginia and I decided to move back. There was a tremendous amount of communication with Colonial Van Lines early on and I worked with the rep as to how many boxes would be moved, how much would it be, and so on. They said they would have the merchandise delivered between the 6th of December or the 20th. After they picked everything up, we virtually had to be very proactive with them. We had to call and find out when the shipment was gonna leave California and when we might receive it.
Once they got the deal, they weren’t providing any additional information. So, we were unhappy about that. It took two weeks before the crates even left California after they picked it up and they were two days late in delivering it. As soon as I found out that the merchandise took two weeks to leave, I told them that if I had known that, I would not have gone with their service. Other than that, the crew who did the work was very good. They were very professional and customer service oriented. They knew what they were doing.

I liked the price and I used Colonial Van Lines initially for moving my home. I had a great interaction with the reps and they kept us informed. They also double-checked to make sure that everything was going well. The weight was a little bit off but it was still very good. The movers also did an excellent job and moved everything, for a four-bedroom house, in five hours. Everything went so well. Then, I decided to do it for the car but that didn’t work out very well. Unfortunately, I heard a lot of promises and nothing went through. We had to cancel the contract, and that made it harder to find someone else because of the timeline. However, the actual move was awesome and everything else was fabulous. So, I would still recommend them.

Absolutely the worst moving experience ever! My “account manager” must be a fictitious person because over the course of 3 weeks I have called and emailed a dozen times and got ZERO responses. I was told my shipment would arrive on 1/1/19 between 12 and 4 and it never showed up. It came the next day at 9 am. I had asked for a shuttle at delivery because a semi was not going to work but lo and behold they showed up in a semi truck. Then had to go rent a U-Haul truck, which took FOUR HOURS!
When they got back with my goods, I watched them open the back of the U-Haul and all of my stuff was flipped over, thrown on top of each other and just piled up, not strapped down or anything! I had several very expensive pieces damaged as well as damage to my property. They also continually stacked boxes labeled “heavy” on top of tiny boxes. They also continually brought items into my home that weren’t mine. Absolutely terrible. No one calls me back, no one does what they say—worst company ever

The experience with Colonial was good. It was just the carrier that they contracted that I wasn’t too pleased with. And I wasn't really aware that they contracted it out. They may have told me but I don’t remember. I thought it was gonna be their own moving company. I did get quotes from some others and even though they may be all independent, at least they would all have the same name on their truck. Even though Colonial contracted the job out, I still put it on them.
The contractor had damaged the headboard of one of my beds and lost all the hardware to put it together so I can't even put that together. They also lost a box. Luckily, it was only one but it had all my dresses. A lot of my work shoes are missing too. They also couldn’t even put the entertainment center together. The guy tried but they had a scheduled time and he said that was it. That was all the time he could do. He told me I would have to file a claim, which I did but I don't know what's happening. Colonial said they would reimburse but by way that they're not gonna pay for any of the stuff. But I still have a room full of stuff that I gotta get rid of and I'll go buy new stuff. So I'm really disappointed with that portion because it's gonna cost me some money that I really wasn’t prepared to do. I wouldn’t have paid to have all that stuff moved. I would have just sold the stuff when I was out there.
Everything was great with Colonial. The only downside with them was that for the pickup status and the delivery updates, they kept handing it off to someone else in the company. They kept me in the loop but I always got somebody calling me and I didn’t know who they were. It was also a lengthy process. The move was from California to Iowa and it was a long trip. It was just about 1,600 miles. The stuff was picked up on time but they didn’t deliver until the end of the due date. I ended up having to stay longer in the hotel and because I couldn’t live in the hotel any longer, I came to the apartment and slept in sleeping bags.
When I first started with Colonial, their pricing was lower than the others'. But when I got everything all done, the price ended up being a little higher than the others' quotes and they didn’t even give me what the weight was when they delivered the stuff. They also charged me for things that I didn’t use, like bed mattress bags. But all they did was wrap it up in Saran wrap, which I was disappointed with. Also, they were mixing stuff with other people’s. I didn’t like that but that was how they ended up doing it. When they picked the stuff up at the house in California, they said they would put it in bags when they get to the warehouse. But when they delivered and brought the stuff off the truck, it was still in Saran wrap. I paid for the bags but they didn’t have the bags wrapped on there. All in all, I was dissatisfied.

The reps called and they were very personable and helped us come up with a quote. It was a bit lower than what we ended up with. The moving company was a little bit later than anticipated but it was just a couple of hours and that was fine. We got pretty far in the process before we were notified that they could take several days to weeks for our stuff to get there. It was a little disconcerting at first but in the end, it got there within four days. So, that was okay. The crew packed everything and they were very professional. They got there on time and nothing was broken, even some of the flimsier stuff. We could have saved a little money if we went another route but everything was good.

This Company doubles the cost, breaks and destroys my things, holds my stuff Hostage unless I pay them $10,000.00 Cash. I spoke with Carol more than once. She assured me that they would reweigh my stuff. As I could tell R & R Movers in Hollywood Ca was trying to RIP me off. They will not check the weight until after I pay. Of course I am right. There is a painting in there of the house I grew up in. Painted by my aunt. So upset! More Irreplaceable items either gone or ruined. My autographed Guitar by painting from my aunt. Is there any more damage you guys could cause??? The response from Colonial van lines is Completely untrue. They have my information. They are offering me .60lb on my broken Antiques and A Whooping $330 in compensation. GIVE MY MONEY BACK! I deserve a refund, you did not give the service you promised. ⭐⭐DON'T USE THIS COMPANY.⭐⭐
So today they sent me a Document asking me to remove all my reviews for $660 what a joke! So now they sent me one for $1240. Come on! I gave them $10,747.00 and they think that is going to fix my nightmare and all my irreplaceable, irreparable Antiques. Plus undo all the bull they put me through!! CHECK THIS OUT! They are try to say that The Checks that R & R gave me for the overcharges Lmao!! Are part of my Compensation. They want me to sign a Document saying I will accept $601. ARE THEY SERIOUS? They must deal with Stupid People.
They want me to sign an agreement saying I will remove my reviews right for $601?? That's doesn't even pay for anything. I couldn't even get my antique hand-carved carousel horse repaired for that! THIS COMPANY IS THE WORST! NOT ONLY DID THEY NOT DO THEIR JOB! THEY ARE TREATING ME LIKE I'M STUPID! It's May now. Still no resolution. I guess they just rip people off and get away with it. Original Review: I was referred to R&R Moving and Storage under a contract I signed with Colonial Van Lines. They picked my stuff up in Long Beach Ca on November 28th and were supposed to deliver it to my new home in North Carolina between December 18th and January 1st. Colonial quoted me $5300 for the move. When they arrive they immediately try to raise the quite to over $10,000. I call my customer service representative from Colonial who assured me that it was just a quote and it would be fine. Everything goes by weight anyways. So they begin to help me all during the move they are talking crap in Spanish about my choices in what I'm bringing with me. About what still needs pack about everything all day, what they don't know is I understand every word.
At some point I tell them to stop. So off my stuff goes on its way to North Carolina. At some point in December I'm contacted and told I will have to pay $10800.00 for the move? I tell them this can't be right and ask questions about how it got doubled in price. Oh you had much more stuff. Not that much I tell them and insist that they recheck the weight. Colonial tells me this will be done before it gets to my home. So Jan 2st comes and goes no Delivery.
On the 3rd I inquire where my things are. Oh it's going to be there between the 7th and 9th now? Again in the morning of the 10th I inquire. I am told, "Oh it will be there tomorrow." No heads up I am supposed to be given a delivery date to be prepared ahead of time. That doesn't happen either. I ask about the weight check. Has it been done? No it hasn't and they can't do it because there are other items on the truck.
They insist I hand them $10,800 cash or they will not take my stuff off the truck. I repeatedly ask about the weight. They finally agreed to weigh before and after my things are removed. But cash up front first basically holding my stuff hostage. I get out my agreement. The one I signed in California after being assured that it was just an estimate and the weight was what I was paying for. It says $9202.39 so they agree to take that to unload with the understanding that the weight will be checked. As they unload my things have been smashed, thrown and broken. Including my antique hand carved carousel horse.
At the end of the day we go back to the scale and what a shock. I'm right they have overcharged me for the weight. As soon as the driver Kevin from R&R hears this he quickly runs off with my cash. Basically stealing my money right out from underneath me. I'm not given the difference back as told. I contacted the company in Los Angeles they tell me to contact Colonial. This company is the worst, complete disregard for my things, stealing my money, trying to take advantage of me.

Colonial Van Lines quoted us a lesser price, and they answered all of my mom's questions. Everything was going as planned for the drive back, but all of a sudden, it got delayed a couple days. We weren’t too worried about it because, overall, the move took about a week and a half. Colonial did a good job. There were three men that did the move, and they did a really awesome job. I’ve never seen anyone go so fast and have that much energy, but they did. They were very precise on making sure every single box had a ticket on it. If there was something that my mom was afraid was fragile, they extra wrapped it and treated it like it was a baby. We were really impressed with how they got everything done so quickly and so precise. They were also extremely friendly.
When the guys loaded the boxes, I watched them put the boxes on the truck, and they were so gentle. I went to the truck to make sure everything was in, and I fell and broke my ankle. Even though they were ready to leave, they waited for an hour to make sure that the ambulance came, and I was okay. They even wrapped my foot, and I thought that was so great.

It started off really well and then it fell apart, and then it was good again, and then it fell apart again. One of the people that helped us was Rose and she was very nice, helpful and responsive. I really enjoyed working with her and Glen. Everyone else was a little bit difficult because they weren’t very responsive, especially one woman named Donna. She was an awful person to work with. She never calls people back. She caused me a lot of headaches, but that’s where the Rose came in and helped us out and went the extra mile to do the best to make us satisfied because some things were broken. The brand new refrigerator has a bunch of scratches on the side, a cross statue that a friend of mine brought me from Italy was shredded into a thousand pieces, which was irreplaceable and glasses and dishes were broken. They compensated appropriately for some of the items that were easy to replace.

I was moving for work and it was a pretty big move from Vermont to Michigan, four states away. The guy from Colonial who was contacting me wasn’t very good at all. His manager reached out and she was super nice and accommodating, but she also didn’t leave any of her contact information. She was okay at the beginning and she’s been okay today, but there's been a lot of lack of follow-up and clarity on questions in billing. Nobody there seems to have figured it out. They were trying to charge me $6,000 over my estimate, which was way too much.
I filled out the quote with the inventory and all my stuff on it, and though it wasn’t super accurate, it wasn’t super far off. The more inaccurate quote I got was from the truck driver. I got his weight ticket and I challenged it, and all of a sudden, another weight ticket came from who knows where and they adjusted it. I had more questions on why the weight in the back of the truck when my stuff was loaded in the front of the truck, and they didn't know. There should be more clarity around billing and how they’re gonna weigh the truck. They couldn't tell me if they have a policy where the truck driver has to submit his fuel gauge to make sure that they’re not charging me for the fuel. They need to be able to explain for us to understand what we’re paying for, and make sure that we’re getting the value we need. I’m booking another move right now, and I’m not calling Colonial Van Lines nor am I recommending them.
We do care and take any inconvenience you have experienced with Colonial Van Lines very seriously. Please call me at 954-958-2253 so that I may work on your behalf to address any issues or concerns you may have. Thank you.

First, I apologize for the long review, but I had to air my grievances. I’ve had many experiences using a moving company, as I’ve been in the military. For our move from Colorado to Indiana my wife and I researched online, and found what we thought was a good company to use. This move turned out to be a massively frustrating one. Naturally, I’m a laid back person, but this by FAR, was the worse customer service experience in my life – and it takes a lot to disappoint me.
I’m not sure using another company would have alleviated my issues but I ended up being dissatisfied with the vendor/subcontractor/carrier who did the pickup and delivery. It became apparent to me that I was only a dollar sign by the pickup and delivery team, and my customer service did not matter. Colonial did a excellent job working with me on this terrible experience – I just wasn’t lucky in who they contracted with (Pin to Pin Moving and Pasha Transportation/Freight – the guy at Pasha was the RUDEST person I’ve ever worked with in a business transaction).
I had Alexander ** as my salesperson. He was very helpful during the initial stages of the sale. However he ended up taking a new position or promotion and ended up losing contact prior to working out the exact pick up dates. That was a slight issue that in the long run did not affect the move. I did not choose the insurance because in my previous moves very little was damaged. I realized later that by not choosing insurance, the packers/movers/unloaders would treat my stuff like trash or freight boxes, damaging many of my goods (also, turned out that many items weren’t wrapped as I have experienced AND PAID FOR, to have done).
My customer satisfaction by the moving team was not at the top of their mind, only doing the work for as little effort and supplies as possible to make a buck. With no need to worry about insurance, they could save on costs such as wrapping and time to take care of goods – therefore weighing the time it took to properly care for my goods and supplies against 60 cents a pound per an item.
I would say the pickup and packing was slightly satisfactory. The team was professional and I was very impressed by their motivation and skills at packing. The team leader told me that he estimated that the weight would be more than estimated. I didn’t know how much more it would increase, but in the end it increased by 6,000 pounds. I was disappointed that the estimate didn’t prepare me for that.
One item that was hugely unsatisfactory was I learned at pickup/packing that anything that would be wrapped with blankets and then taped would be extra. I didn’t think that would be a big deal, but it ended up being over two dozen items that were wrapped that way. That was an incurred cost of $32 a piece. At no point prior to the pickup was this explained to me. That increased my total packing cost higher than previously estimated. I also had an increase due to the poor estimate and the amount of boxes that were used. The incurred wrapping cost was a frustrating and dissatisfying experience. Also, I was told pick up would take three days – they did it in two, which the rush worried me as at the end of the second day, items were not wrapped, just stuffed in boxes. Again – no insurance meant 60 cents per a pound per an item, a cost they were alright with it appeared.
The team was worried about loading the hot tub that I owned. I had to pay extra for that when I was told by Colonial that the team would be able to do the loading. This lack of communication between Colonial, team and me cost me an additional $300 in unexpected costs as I had the spa retailer come and store the hot tub for later pick up. This was not the last time that the carrier did not follow through on what Colonial expected of them. The packing team did a terrible job labeling. I understand labeling some boxes very generically, I’ve experienced that multiple times in previous moves. I get that. But there were boxes that had nothing on them. Now I’m playing Guess Who? Pathetic.
As I said before, individual picture frames were not wrapped. I’m found boxes with picture frames, ones that are bigger than the standard 11x18 frames, all packed together, with nothing around them. Not what I experienced on previous moves – I expect the items to be wrapped individually to protect the glass and frame. At delivery things got WAY worse. The level of care that the carrier had for me as a customer was dirt poor. Terrible.
The Carrier (Pasha Transportation/Freight) was subcontracted carrier I believe with Pin to Pin. My move from Colorado to Indiana took me too far for Pin to Pin to do the long haul, so they hired the cheapest POS there was to do the move. And it became evident the carrier only wanted to get my stuff unloaded so he could go score another pickup/delivery (goodness, the poor customers who used him later). A breakdown in following Colonial Van Line policy and the services to be rendered occurred, when the carrier (Pasha) was brought on by Pin to Pin to do the move. Since Pasha wasn’t hired by Colonial, but instead by Pin to Pin, who already got paid by Colonial, meant Pasha didn’t care and follow through with what services they were to provide. And they forgot to be, you know, respectful business people. Issues are listed below:
1) The carrier for the delivery (PASHA TRANSPORTATION – NEVER USE THEM!) It was incredibly rude. He was curt and did not show the respect I felt a customer deserved. As far as I'm concerned this is the worse customer service experience in any type of business transaction I've ever had in my life. The team working with the driver, the hired hands that helped unload the truck, also mentioned to me the rudeness of the driver. He didn't speak very good English and it was incredibly hard to understand him.
The driver made first contact with me on Friday before the move. That was the first time I heard from him and I could not understand him. In the garbled English, I finally understood he was telling me I needed to pay the final balance in money orders. I had been given the OK to pay by credit card by Colonial and that's how I intended to pay as my bank is an online bank and not easy to get money orders sent. After a few minutes again in trying to understand what he was saying, he rudely said I can pay by credit card.
I'm then sent an authorization form that requires a 3% finance charge for the payment on a $6,700 charge. That's an additional $200 on top of the large amount I've paid for this move. The lack of communication from the agent to the carrier to me about the payment was terrible in this regard. On Saturday, my scheduled move day, when the driver arrived, I had to take 1 1/2 hours to find several locations to get the money orders. On Saturday it also was raining all day. In the morning it was a light rain.
Prior to his arrival I asked the driver if he can unload in the rain as I wanted to get stuff unloaded - and I thought he would take the care to prepare my house for the move, putting pads down or cardboard, basic customer care type services (looking bad I'm glad he didn't unload that day). He said he could as it was light rain. But when he got to my house and came inside, he rudely stated and asked "so you guys don't care about the people in the rain?" in relation to us wanting to get our items unloaded.
Unacceptable comment to a customer and especially after he had agreed to unloading in the rain. After I returned from the money order run, it was raining more and he made the decision to delay the unload until Sunday. I called Colonial to ensure that there would be no further charges for that and was told I had a four day window, starting on the 18th, to get my household good.
The move the next day, on Sunday, went very poorly and I'm very dissatisfied with it. Originally the driver and co-driver was unloading my items off the truck and putting them on the driveway and then in the garage - this included all my boxes, even the ones that were marked living room/kitchen/family room/master bedroom, etc. He gave his hired hands explicit instructions to unload into the garage - I've NEVER had a move like that before, I expected items to be placed where they belonged in the house (not unpacked, but if the box was marked living room, I expected to be asked "You want this where?"). The driver did not care about where the items were to go.
He only cared about getting the truck empty so he could leave. The hired hands told me he had another job lined up and needed to get there - I thought I had a four day window to deliver? Why was there another scheduled pickup? And why wasn't the focus on ensuring the current job, MY JOB, was going well? Unacceptable. Most items I needed to be unloaded and put into the house in specific rooms. Ensuring I was satisfied and getting on the same page with how this delivery should go was not on the driver's mind.
It was 100% obvious to me that I was seen as a Dollar sign, that he wanted only to unload my truck and get on the road to the next job. It felt horribly rushed and the communication was terrible. He didn't prepare the house for dollies to go inside, there was no cardboard put down or any effort to protect my household goods. His co-driver almost pushed a dolly with mud on the tires into my house before I stopped him. If items didn't fit through the door, there wasn't much effort to care for them, rather shove them through. I was incredibly unsatisfied with the customer service at the delivery. Saying that, the two hired hands that helped the driver and co-driver were fantastic and I appreciated their help.
2) The job was rushed so much that I could not write down and track all the items on the inventory list as they came in. When I told the driver that I intended to do track the items brought off the truck, he was shocked because of the amount of items and it felt like me doing that was delaying him. A good customer service person would have discussed how to do the unloading and made sure my needs were met. Rather, all the driver cared about was getting everything off the truck so he could leave. Terrible. When the driver left I still had over 80 items on my list unaccounted for - in previous moves the team waited and helped me find my missing items before leaving.
3) I had a hot tub in my inventory and paid Colonial a bulky item charge of almost $250 to transport and load/unload that item. At pick up I had to pay someone to pick it up at my house and load it later on the truck. That extra fee didn't make me very happy. Then at delivery I couldn't get someone lined up to unload the hot tub as the move was changed from Saturday to Sunday and all the stores were limited in manpower. So to get the hot tub off the driver charged me $200 extra to unload it. And! I helped unload!
So I paid him so that I could help unload it, as well as my brother in law. That is the biggest scam I've ever had as a customer. Worse than a time-share purchase. And when I said I wouldn't pay for that, and that I had paid an additional fee already to Colonial, the driver shrugged and told me (not asked) to find someone to unload it - and held my hot tub hostage. Where did the driver go to learn how to treat customers? Monsters Inc? Anyway, I had no choice but to pay the driver to get extra help.
In summary, services I paid for or expected but not completed – Boxes brought into the house where I wanted them. Boxes accounted for and marked off – after all boxes were unloaded items were accounted for – none of this occurred, I had to hurriedly mark off boxes as I went (In hindsight I should have made the delivery team wait until all boxes were accounted but I was so pissed at the experience I wanted them gone). Unloading of the hot tub – had to pay an additional $200 in cash.
Carrier would take a credit card – was going to charge me a finance fee, which wasn’t communicated to me – Colonial had said I could pay with a credit card during the pre-move process. Assembly of items that were disassembled at pick up – I had to reassemble the beds and bikes as well as other shelving units due to ineptitude of carrier. Protective measures for high volume traffic in my house – no cardboard or blankets were laid down in my house and dollies with dirty wheels tracked mud inside. Basic customer service.
A year later, after the move, I’ve found countless items damaged from improper care. It was ridiculous. I hope those who read this learn from my experience – first, PRAY that whoever is subcontracted to do your work isn’t a big ** like PASHA Transportation or have misfortune of having a poor customer experience. I was nickeled and dimed by this move to death. In the end, cost me $18,000. If I had gotten insurance, a lot of the stress would be alleviated as the carrier would have to covered so many damages. In the end, I did get over $1,000 refunded for this experience, to include the $200 from the hot tub unloading – but still, what a terrible experience.
If you want to do business with Colonial, I encourage it. Their customer service worked through the issues with me, and they said they wouldn’t use the carrier anymore. I don’t know how much of that is true, it may be hard to check that as I think the delivery carrier was done by a subcontractor to Pin to Pin. But I wouldn’t use Pin to Pin. No way. Stay away from them. And pray you never get Pasha Transportation/Freight. The agent, Colonial Van Lines, specifically my account manager Aneisha ** was fantastic to solve many of the issues. Overall, I wasn’t happy with the $18,000 I put into this move and the terrible experience. I didn’t feel completely whole in the return damages but it was at least something. Would I use Colonial again for my next move (which will occur)? I just don’t know.

My parents were downsizing and I was moving furniture from their house in Massachusetts to my house in California. I did a search on the internet and looked at reviews, then I sent out several inquiries. Then Colonial pursued me and they were very aggressive and nice about it. The person that did the inventory and gave me a quote was great. She followed up with emails and phone calls. The expectations she set were totally accurate. She helped me figure out how to estimate things and to overestimate so I could get the better price starting off, everything she said worked out.
The movers were fabulous. Edgar was great and way above the call of duty and I was really pleased with him. The only thing was it was a little bit confusing. It would've been good from the beginning if we had a little bit more information about how it was gonna go and the fact that there were gonna be several different people that I communicate with. Despite that, I would recommend Colonial Van Lines.

I was between two companies but one of them said they were no longer making a move from New York. We were relocating from New York to Florida and I had Colonial as a backup. They were very prompt and able to accommodate me on short notice. We were not prepared for the pickup and the delivery though. I was packing for months and we were ready by the time they got there but I had one or two boxes that I had to put things in at the last minute. But that was on me.
On the other hand, I would've wished to have had more of a heads-up on the delivery. The delivery guy had told us to pick the date and we picked the 28th. But they came much sooner. He called me two weeks prior to the date that we agreed upon and I wasn’t here. My husband was here but leaving it to him to put the boxes in places was not a good idea. But that aside, the moving coordinators did pretty good in my interactions with them and the expectations they set, as far as the service and the quote, were pretty accurate. The account manager who assisted during the move was helpful as well.

Original Review: Jan. 8, 2019
I researched numerous companies and decided to go with Colonial Van Lines. I contacted Colonial and spoke with representative Ann ** and scheduled delivery. I was given delivery dates from December 4th to the 5th. I was contacted on the 3rd and informed that the delivery van would be there the next day. That day, I was informed that due to a breakdown of their truck, delivery would be on the 5th. We were forced to stay in a hotel, since our belongings were already packed in boxes for the move. The next day, we were told that the van had additional problems and we would not be able to move as scheduled. We were told that the normal discount per day was $35, but since we had delays and hotel costs, we would be compensated $200 for the 2 days we waited. We stayed in a hotel again and we still waited for the movers.
The movers arrived on the evening of the 6th. Everything was packed and I was informed that we would have a weight the next day and that delivery in WA would occur from the 12th to the 23rd. I asked if the delivery may possibly be delayed, since we had packed Christmas gifts to be sent via the moving company. The driver assured me that there was “no way” that our delivery would go past the 23rd, since the moving company would not want to reduce the cost per day for each day late, which is $35 per day. The driver recommended that we be there on the 12th so that we would not have any delays in delivery. He said that the truck would leave the following day and would be there by the 12th if there were no problems. I confirmed with the moving company that we should be there by the 12th, so that someone would be available for the movers when they arrived to unload.
We drove cross country and arrived in WA on the 12th as requested. I contacted Colonial and was informed that I am now working with Shari **, who confirmed that they had not yet received the weight or price of the move. We were told that the original price was an estimate and that they had to weigh the packages in order to get an accurate cost. I contacted Colonial daily but was informed that they had been unable to contact the driver.
I was contacted by Ms. ** on the 21st and was informed that they estimated delivery by the 23rd. I reminded her that I had Christmas presents and wanted to know if the delivery would occur before Christmas. Ms. ** informed me that they could not confirm the date, since they still did not have the weight from the delivery driver, who had originally taken the boxes to their New Jersey warehouse. I was informed that someone would contact me the next day to update me.
When I did not receive a call, I contacted Ms. ** and was informed that they still had not received a delivery date and had not received the total weight. I was informed that they would contact me on the 26th with an update.I was forced to purchase Christmas gifts so that my children would have something to open on Christmas day.
On December 26th, I was contacted by Ms. **, who said that they had received the total weight for our shipment and that the remaining cost was $5,700, which made the total approximately $9,700. I paid a deposit of $2,550.33 on an estimated delivery cost of $7208.42. Upon pickup, I was informed that they had underestimated the delivery and I would need to pay an additional $1,442.31, which I paid. The new total was now $2,500 over the estimate and I was informed that delivery could not be given, but I would be updated on the 31st with updated delivery information. Ms. ** telephoned again on the 28th to inform me that the delivery window was now January 1, 2019 to January 5, 2019. I was assured that I would be compensated for each day that the delivery truck went past the original estimate, as well as the 2 days that they were late in picking up our boxes.
I was telephoned on January 2 and was informed that the driver was nearing Washington and my delivery would be within the next day or so. Ms. ** informed me that as soon as she had information, she would update me. I was called on January 3rd and was told that the delivery would be on the 4th or 5th. As soon as she knew for sure, she would telephone with the discount and total due. I was telephoned by the truck driver on the afternoon of the 4th and was informed that he was in Washington and would make the delivery on the 5th after 2 pm. He was not aware of any discount. I explained that I would call Colonial to find out what was going on. I telephoned Ms. ** and left a message. She did not return my call that day.
I canceled my plans for Saturday and waited for the movers to call and show up. The driver said he would call approximately an hour before arriving. I was given a delivery window from 2 pm to 4 pm. There was no call and no delivery within that time frame. The driver did call after 6 pm to say that they would not be there that day. He said that there were elevator issues in the first delivery that caused delays and they would not be able to come. He said that they would be there for the delivery between 9 am and 10 am.
On Sunday January 6th, the nightmare continued. The driver, Sergei, arrived and wanted cash. I explained that I would pay with a credit card, since this was one of the methods of payment accepted by Colonial. I said that the Colonial representative told us to not pay with cash ever. He said that he did not work for Colonial, but worked for a different company, Traditional Van lines. He did not want to use a credit card and said that when he called me the previous day, he explained that they took cash or a money order from the US Post Office only. I reminded him that it was Sunday and could not use either method. He then said that they would accept a credit card!
While he searched for a credit card authorization form, his workers began to unload the truck. I provided him with my information and he took a photo of my license and credit card information. The unloading was proceeding smoothly until he announced that the credit transaction would not go through. I told him I would call the bank, since there was probably a hold on the amount since it was so high. I telephoned the bank and reached a recorded number that the bank was closed on Sundays and that there was no one who could assist me. No problem, I thought, since I would call Colonial to straighten this out. I called literally every number I had listed for Colonial and reached the same message that they are closed on Sunday and that there was no one who could assist me.
The driver continued to badger me to go to the bank to withdraw the funds. He did not seem to realize that I would not be able to withdraw the funds from the bank. He then continued to state that I needed to go to the US Post Office to get a money order. I reminded him more than once that the post office was closed on Sunday, but he continued to suggest that I go there to get the money order! My wife explained that a wooden chair that one of the workers had unloaded was not ours. Sergei said that it had to be, since it was without items. He searched for a sticker and could not locate one. He said that the chair was our chair, since it had no identification and could not be returned to the warehouse! I asked that the chair be removed, but after they had left, we realized that it was in a corner of the garage.
The driver continued to complain about the fee and had informed the workers to stop unloading the truck. This caused the workers, who were apparently day laborers, to complain and wanted me to pay their scheduled fee. I informed them that I had no idea who they were and would not be paying them anything. This seemed to enrage one worker, who began to make threats. Sergei calmed him and continued to call his company. He returned and said that there would be an additional fee of $500 for re-delivery, as well as a 3-hour fee for Sergei’s work at $75 per hour. I explained that I would not be paying for the fees since if he would have been there on Saturday as he informed me originally, the bank would have been open and none of this would have happened. He called his company again and spoke in Russian, so I was unaware of what he said.
My wife had surgery prior to our move and she asked if there was any way that he could leave our mattress. I have back problems and she cannot sleep with her abdominal cut and we have been sleeping on an air mattress. Sergei ignored her. She asked again and he walked away. At this point, she begged him to leave the smallest mattress so that she could at least sleep on this. He ignored her again. Sergei then took a call from his company. When he finished, he repeated his statement to me and when I said that he would need to reschedule the next day, he reiterated that he would not do so without the additional fee.
I explained that I would contact Colonial and would get this resolved. He then cursed at me in Russian. I know some curse words and things began to get heated. I cursed back at him and he said that I did not need to get nasty. I responded that I knew that he had cursed at me in Russian and he appeared shocked. He said that he was trying to get things resolved and his dispatcher was trying to get in touch with Colonial. I reminded him that I had tried every number that I had and that the only response was that the office was closed.
After about 15 minutes, he appeared agitated and said that he would have to redeliver. I told him that I had informed him about that over a half hour before. He wanted the paperwork that I had and I explained that this was the only proof I had that he had my items. I did relent and he cursed again in Russian and I told him the same in English. He then drove away angry.
Approximately 5 minutes after they left, my sister telephoned to see if the movers had shown up. I explained everything to her and she offered to use her credit card. I immediately called Sergei and explained what my sister had offered. He said that he had already spoken with his manager, who told him that another company would deliver my items. He said that he had already arrived at the Colonial Seattle warehouse to store my furniture. I asked how he could be in Seattle when it was at least an hour drive. He said something that I could not understand and I asked him to repeat himself, as I did not understand him. The call was disconnected. I tried to call him back and telephoned at least 4 times. The telephone rang numerous times and went to his voicemail. I left messages, but Sergei did not return my call.
I called Colonial and left detailed messages with every contact person with whom I had previously spoken. I asked to be called immediately on Monday morning. I should note that the alleged discount was nowhere on Sergei’s paperwork and he wanted the full amount. His paperwork also did not state that they accepted credit cards, but he had a credit card form for me to complete! I relayed all of this information to the Colonial representatives via voicemail message.I telephoned Sheri first thing on Monday January 7, 2018 and she had no idea what was going on. I drove my daughter to school and was extremely surprised to see the driver and the truck that was supposedly on its way back to New Jersey. I thought that I was mistaken and it was a different truck.
I called Sheri again and told her my concerns. She said that she had spoken with her manager and that they were trying to get the fees waived from Traditional Van Lines. She said that she would call me soon to update me. Over 3 hours later and I still had not had a telephone call. I decided to call Sheri again, who said that she had spoken with her manager, who said that unfortunately, they could not waive the fees. She said that they had honored the original $400 credit for the 2 days I was required to stay in a hotel, since all of our furnishing were packed and the drivers had not shown. She said that I would have to pay the $500 fee, as well as the $75 for 3 hours that the driver was at my house! I explained that the driver was there less than 45 minutes and she then changed her story to the time the driver had left the warehouse and was at my home.
I reminded her that the mover had explained that he was in south Washington and was on his way, so he could not be at the warehouse and also approximately a few hours away and on his way to my home. Shari then said that I would either be charged the $500 plus the $225. But they were not going to be able to credit me for the 14 days at $35 that I was informed that I would be credited. I reminded her that I had not received the $400 credit that she stated I had received and I was also being punished by Traditional and would not receive the $490 credit for late time. She could not provide a rational explanation for why I am no longer getting the credit. I complained and she said that she would speak with her manager and get back to me. She again could not explain where my furniture was.
Upon returning home I could not believe that the Traditional Van Line truck was still in the parking lot as it had been at that same location for the past 8 hours. I stopped and confirmed that it was indeed a Traditional Van Line truck. I live in a town of less than 2,000 people, so that the odds of them making a different delivery was almost nonexistent. I took photos of the truck and the company logo and truck number and emailed them to Shari at Colonial. I telephoned her after this and her. It was not the end of their work day, but I did not reach anyone at any extension I called. We are living in a house with no furniture. I had to buy Christmas gifts over so that my children could have Christmas. I had to buy my children clothes so that they could go to school. I also had to buy dress clothes so that I could begin my new job. Colonial could care less about their customers.

I'd seen Colonial's trucks around and I thought they were fairly reputable compared to other companies. The initial interactions were great, but the services and expectations set were fairly inaccurate. They subcontract the job out to a pretty unprofessional mover, and they never told me that was even a possibility. A junky van showed up late, past the time they were supposed to, and they didn't notify me they were gonna be late. So, they rushed to get everything done. There's construction around here, and they didn't do anything like put down running mops so they tracked dirt throughout the house and footprints on the carpet. They also ran the moving truck into the door frames. Almost none of the furniture was wrapped or protected, so some of them were pretty beaten up.
We do care and take any inconvenience you have experienced with Colonial Van Lines very seriously. Please call me at 954-958-2253 so that I may work on your behalf to address any issues or concerns you may have. Thank you.

I moved a three-bedroom home from Nashville to LA. I used Colonial Van Lines and I had an easy interaction with the moving coordinator. The services and expectations set were all accurate. As of right now, everything’s great but I also had a claim out. They stored my priceless Moroccan chest and my brand new dining room table in a puddle of water, and they were both ruined so I’m extremely dissatisfied with that. They told me to file a claim and send pictures, describe it, and they’ll get back to me. I didn't get the insurance and it sounds like because we didn’t have that insurance, they’re gonna give us 60 cents per pound, which I will be extremely disappointed. I understand you need insurance if things happened, but my things were stored in water, which is like full on neglect. I shouldn't have to get extra insurance just to keep them from destroying my stuff.

I called about five different companies, and they all came at the same rigmarole. What got me with Colonial was the customer service guy on the phone call. His name was Nicolas and he was wonderful. He was friendly and cool. He wasn’t trying to sell me something. He talked to me like a normal person. A lot of the other companies were kinda automated and it didn’t feel real. Also, they all wanted to come by my house and take pictures, but Colonial didn't require that. Nicolas just asked me what I got. He set up everything, and then I had different people get in touch with me when it came closer to the move. Nicolas said he would follow up through the end, and he did. For any move out of state, companies give you a two-day window. It was annoying to me but that was nothing unique to the mover.

We bought a new home in New Mexico and Colonial Van Lines sounded like it had a good value. Also, because of the name recognition, we decided on them. It was a move for 1,000 miles and it was a modest-sized household. We never received or saw what the actual weights were before and after the truck went on the scale, so we had no way of knowing whether the stated weight was accurate. So, it remains a mystery to me why the original estimate went from around 3,000 pounds to about 5,500 pounds when all of our stuff was the same stuff we had at the beginning. I was not happy about that because it affected the price and by that time, it was too late to back out or look for an alternate source.
The first person I talked to was the Colonial salesperson whose name was John and the final person was with the local affiliate, Cal Van Lines. So, we were captive in the situation and not given an opportunity to evaluate the correctness of the weight. I was not sure where the breakdown was but there was one. On the other hand, as far as facilitating the move and staying on top of it, it was clear that there was coordinated communication. There was frequent contact and every time I spoke with the local mover, I would get a call from the coordinator at Colonial. Everything was completely packed and ready to go at the time of pick up and the movers commented that it was very easy for them because we had done all that work. They got the job done and on time, and it all worked out fine.

I was very happy with everyone at Colonial Van Lines. My mom was moving from California to Washington. She had a moving company, but after they got her stuff, they jacked up the price. So, I went online, and I found Colonial Van Lines. Her stuff was in storage, they had to go pick up the stuff from storage. The last storage person was a little upset, so he took all his boxes back. So, they had to package up some of her stuff and they were good about it.
The moving coordinator was great. We explained the situation, and she said, “We can do this. We can work this out. We can get your mom’s stuff and get it up there. We have the capability of doing all this stuff.” And she set it up. The account manager was also very good. She kept in touch and they shipped it here sooner than we expected, but it was within the time frame that she told us, so it wasn’t totally unexpected. The movers, R&R Moving, were great and very efficient. They were so patient with my mom. They changed her one-bedroom apartment around five times. She decided she wanted to try something else, and there was no hesitation. I was the one that was rolling my eyes, like, “Oh my god, can this ever end?” Not them. They’re just, “Yeah, we can do that.” And they stopped what they were doing, and they moved the stuff around.

Colonial Van Lines gave us an excellent price, which enticed me to go with them. They also seemed knowledgeable and helpful when I called to do the quote. I then went back and forth with Joseph the moving coordinator a bunch of times with questions, and then at some point, he sent out a moving surveyor, who nailed down our estimate and what kind of truck we needed. They pretty much stuck to the initial quote they gave me through the whole process. Then aside from the coordinator, a couple of other people also called and checked on the whole process. Carol called two days before the move, on the day and the day after, to make sure everything was going smoothly. Overall, it was a good experience.

The salesperson was really good. She did a good job upfront and kinda answered all my questions. I felt comfortable making a selection. But it was towards the end that it all started falling apart, where it got to be a pain. We made our first estimate at weight. We based our original quote off that which was fine and I understood that it could up or down. And then someone called me back when it was close to the move. We went through the updated inventory list, and they up the weight significantly which was fine. It was all based off gross weight. Once the movers had come, picked everything up, and got it weighed, they found out that instead of being 3,000, which we originally estimated, it was 3,600 which was significantly shorter than the 5,000 that the Colonial person estimated.
When we went over my final bill, they quoted me $1.06 a pound for the whole move, whether I was 3,000 pounds or 5,000. They called once we had 3,600 and said that we were paying a higher rate than the $1.06 because we overestimated our weight. We came in under, so we got to pay extra. But when the driver got to my house, he only had the 3,000-pound estimate anyways. So, he didn’t even know that we updated it to 5,000. It was a headache to be quoted one rate at 3,000 and 5,000, and then to be told that since we came in at 3,600, we were paying a higher rate. It was a little frustrating. Colonial did fix the issue because I was adamant that I wasn’t gonna pay the difference based on the weight amount. But that was quite stressful and kind of a shady practice to overestimate and having to come under, and then charging a higher rate because of that. So, I was not very happy with that when it was all said and done.
The driver that Colonial connected with us was really good, and the movers that they brought did do a good job. But it was more Colonial that was the issue than the actual work getting done. Don’t use Colonial. Not everybody is going to be kind of a jerk like I am to get what I want when I feel like I’m getting shortchanged. So, I would avoid the headache.

Colonial was supposed to contact me 72 hours before my move, I was never contacted, I called 4 times and left a couple of emails to my main rep the day of my move, he did not respond and I found out they would be here sometime between 8 am-8 pm tomorrow. Colonial will call you every other day to upsell you on product and reconfirm how boxes you have but they can't call you to tell you when the movers are showing up. I finally talked to a customer service rep, this is the same one that called she me to tell me that I would receive a call 72 hours before my move, which we were under the 72 hours window when she called me, she was unable to confirm anything at that time but she was trying to upsell me insurance.
Today she told me that it would be sometime between 8 am and 8 pm tomorrow. I understand that they have a 2 day window of time but I would hope that the day of the move they could narrow it down and once they do finally show up they have 4 days to deliver, which they can't give me any information on that either. If you want to know when your move will start and when your items will deliver do not use Colonial! I am afraid that they are going to drag this out for a week! They have made this a very stressful time, I have never had anything like the happen in my 15 moves that I have made, the only thing I did wrong was choosing Colonial.
We do care and take any inconvenience you have experienced with Colonial Van Lines very seriously. Please call me at 954-958-2253 so that I may work on your behalf to address any issues or concerns you may have. Thank you.

Everyone was great at Colonial Van Lines. The services and expectations set by our moving coordinator were completely accurate and we were completely prepared at pickup and delivery with the help of our account manager. They asked us to box everything, and we did. We had some furniture and a lot of boxes. I moved to Florida already and my husband was in Chicago, so he did a part of the pickup and he felt that the driver was excellent, and I feel the same way. The driver was phenomenal. When they came here to Florida, I was here all by myself and the guys were terrific. I even gave them bigger tips than I was originally going to.
It was the same driver and he was the one who really stood out. He brought someone to help him and they listened to me. They did everything that I asked them to do and they worked. I made them a little frozen pizza and they had a bite but that was it. They didn't even eat. They just worked and I was 100% happy. Though a ladder was missing, nothing was broken by the movers. Also, we had so much stuff and we didn't even say anything to Colonial because it was just a ladder. Colonial Van Lines had a good reputation and their price was the best. We would definitely use them again. I just recommended them to somebody.

Colonial Van Lines had the lowest price. I went with them for my move from California to Iowa. I worked with Paul and he was helpful. He did the quote. Furthermore, the gal who helped coordinate between the drivers and I was extraordinarily helpful as well. She did a fantastic job and it really helped with the stress of moving. She deserves a raise. Though the services and expectations set by their reps were pretty good, the price was off by about a grand. It was more expensive than we initially thought, but still, the timing was much better.
During the move, the team used a tag system to help keep track of goods. We had one of the little tags fall off but then they put the tags together. Thereafter, we referenced the tags and while we thought we had all the stuff, we were missing a part of a bookshelf at some point. Nevertheless, the move was still pretty good overall. I'm very happy with my experience with Colonial.

When we moved from Toledo, Ohio to North Carolina, everything went fine with Colonial Van Lines. Their cost was about $1,000 less than another moving company and I had a very good experience with the account manager who assisted me. However, the gentleman who came in Toledo was there about 12 minutes at most and he was off by at least 2,000 pounds. I got the impression that he was in and out to get his commission and went on. He did not want to be there or did not ever do it before. I was disappointed with it and I told that to the lady I spoke with two weeks ago. Other than that, we had no problem with the movers, and the account manager was very good.

I relocated for work and I used Colonial. I talked to several Colonial people so I felt a little bit more confident with them. The interactions I had with their moving coordinator were very efficient and he set the services and expectations very well. My experience with their account manager was fine too. During the time of pick-up and delivery, I was not prepared as I wished I had because I didn’t know how to pack lamps and pictures, but they helped me pack all those. The movers were fast and we also had good interactions. They took longer to get my furniture where I needed it to be, but it wasn’t all their fault because there was a hurricane. Still, everything went well.

I have used many of the big 10 moving companies, except Colonial Van Lines. I knew that Colonial had a good reputation in the eastern area. I came from the west, so I thought I'd give them a try. My experiences were not always great with some of the bigger companies. I had certain timeframes that I had to go in, and they were very good at accommodating over those timeframes. There were some issues with the escrow closing because there was a Linder issue on the other side of the transaction which caused some delay but Colonial was very understanding and flexible in order to help me through that.
Colonial used a subcontracted company out of California called Thomas Brothers, and they were amazing. It was a father-and-son team. They were very friendly, caring, and were understanding how stressful it was. I needed great care with antiques and musical instruments, which they did beautifully. They were extraordinarily helpful too. They gave me some great advice on the way to pack certain things, so that I could continue to pack very unusual things, and to be assured that I didn't have any breakage. It was amazing. I have not yet found one thing broken. That could not be said with any of the other companies I've used.
My only concern with Colonial is I wasn't given many opportunities to communicate with all the different persons there. There were almost too many people and I was very confused as to who I was talking with and what their role was. But I got a tremendous amount of communication from them, both by email, text, phone calls. Nevertheless, they were very much on top of every part of the move. I had a wonderful experience moving with Colonial.

I was returning to Texas from Tennessee and the Colonial Van Lines staff was communicating real good on the details that they were estimating. The only negative part is that they only pay 60 cents on the pound for electronic items, which usually weigh very little, that are damaged. So, if you have a telephone that got crushed and it’s an $800 phone, they'll pay 60 cents on the pound. I had some damaged properties and I turned in the claim. They said they need 120 days to respond to claims and I haven't heard back on it. Also, they believed that they would be in and out in one day, but they didn't get there until the afternoon of the day, so they were not able to finish. Then, they came three or four days late which affected our ability to function. They said previous customers got a lot more than they thought they would have. Other than that, they were 75% accurate on the inventory estimation and the expectations set.

Also, I was given a heads-up before the pickup and delivery and the moving crew were nice people. But I paid some tips on cash because I had to claim that expense with my company. I had to have those included in the invoices, but their team said that’s kind of impossible because cash tips cannot be included. So, that's the only problem.

I was doing a move because of relocation for a job and the move was about 177 miles. I did a couple of quotes across the board with a couple of different moving companies. The agent at Colonial Van Lines that I was talking to, Demetria, was very helpful and flexible when I had to move my date around. She was available in the afternoons and evenings, and it was great. I emailed her and she called me back. Overall, I felt comfortable with her and the price was competitive with the other companies. The services and expectations set into place were accurate from the process that she described. We ended up about $1,000 over the estimate, but a part of that was me and not having a good understanding of what was in the house necessarily. I was already down here and I was trying to coordinate my move for my possessions that were back in Virginia, so I wasn’t able to do the walk-through and inventory it contributed to the overage.
The account manager was really good. She called me about 10 times during the move period and it was very helpful. She made sure she got a hold of the drivers and that I knew how to do the payment. She gave me the dollar amount and everything. I had an old piano that I needed help trying to get moved and I had some concerns with that, so we went back and forth on that a couple of times. I was trying to understand the insurance and what the insurance required versus what the moving required and the actual movers would require. It was disjointed, so I needed help with that. I didn’t feel I was 100% prepared on that, but for the rest of it, we worked out really well.
The movers were good. They did the same day pick-up and delivery and they worked around my schedule a bit that evening because they ended up having to wait on me for about 45 minutes until I could get to the actual house. They were really polite and helpful. They moved everything when I asked them to take it upstairs versus downstairs and there were no complaints, so it was all great. However, it was somewhat confusing sometimes with the account manager versus the quality person versus the moving coordinator, and sometimes I wasn’t quite sure who I was supposed to call, but I was able to call any of them. Though I was just never 100% sure that I was calling the right person, they started putting me in touch or talking to each other, so it worked out in the end.

Colonial has reached out to us because of our concerns and lack of satisfaction. We would like to thank Donna ** for providing a satisfactory resolution to our concerns. We do give 5 stars to the resolution we received. The initial contacts and contract was quite satisfactory, but as the moving process started they altered all arrangements and required thousands more dollars. We moved from PA to WA. Our packing and preparations took months and we updated our list of belonging on the contract as we packed items. We felt comfortable with this mover up until two weeks before our move, when they changed our moving manager two times and forced us to change our pickup date. Since we had sold our house and had a firm closing date, any change in the pickup date was a major issue.
However, we did accommodate their request. They said they would compensate us for this change, which cost us anxiety and $200, but after the move was finally over they merely offered us $50 for this change. On the day they showed up to pick up our belongings they required us to sign a totally new and different contract. It didn’t matter that we had accurately described and detailed all the items that were to be moved. We had to sign this new contract, adding thousands more in moving costs, or they would walk out the door the day before our house closing date. We were forced to accept this new contract. We were forced to agree that the “binding estimate” in the original contract was superseded by this new contract. Overall it cost us $6400 more than our original contract. We felt that this last minute change was their plan all along, in order to squeeze more money out of us.
Our belongings were to be delivered between the 11th and 17th of November. Each day we had to arrange for someone to be available to accept that delivery. But from Nov. 9 through the 15th we were only able to reach a live person at the office twice, and both times they could give us no information on delivery. We left numerous voicemails and emails, but no one would call us back. No one would give us any information. Finally on Nov. 17th one person, the assistant to our move manager, called to say that they would have information on Nov. 19. On that date, two days after all of our belongings were to be delivered; we were told that the delivery would take place the next day. They offered us, after much discussion, a mere $150 for this three day delay.
At one point, weeks earlier, we had asked about the cost of delaying our delivery and were told that a three day delay would cost us $3,304. But because THEY delayed delivery three days they merely offered us $150. The overall move cost more than $20,000 so this $150 is less than 1%, not what we consider a fair offer. Overall we feel this company is not trustworthy. We feel that they did not treat us well. They were not responsive to our many phone calls, and they did not provide the service they had contracted to provide.

The only thing that needed to be packaged were the furniture. While the moving coordinator was okay, I did not like it when the guy came here with the furniture, he was by himself. I looked at five other companies and based off research, Colonial Van Lines seemed reputable and the pricing seemed fair. I did a vehicle transport and then, moving of household items through them. The distance for the house move was 2,600 miles which was literally East Coast to West Coast. We didn’t have any special request and we gave a fairly open window for the delivery date. Our stuff was supposed to arrive on a specific day and Colonial told us that for every day the driver does not show up or was late, there was a $30 credit. So I told them we were not in a rush and we have enough stuff here to live although we were worried about the condition of it. A picture frame was broken but that’s it and that could have been from the way it was packed.
Originally, the quote was at 2,000 pounds and when we gave the actual item information to Colonial, it was gonna be 3,500 pounds. So, we were quoted $1,500 higher than the original quote. Our stuff was overweight because we had them weighed at a weigh station and when it came down to it, we were just slightly over 2,000 pounds. So, adjustments were made in the pricing and the rate ended up with an extra $200 more.
The communication went well and Colonial worked with us in terms of dates and overall pricing. It was a little confusing that we were turned over to different agent and account managers but they seemed to all know what was going on and they kept us in the loop. It was a first time for me and it was interesting to deal with. I would recommend Colonial and also, folks should be well prepared in packaging their items to avoid any additional packing cost. We didn’t incur that but there were some items that we had to repack and secure before they were put on the truck.

We were moving from Atlanta to Fort Myers, Florida. Colonial Van Lines was cooperative and their pricing was good. The moving coordinator was sometimes a little slow to respond but I was sure that he was busy too and I'm not the only customer. There were two men to pick up. One was the head of the team, Elijah, and he was fantastic and made sure everything was done right. When they had certain pieces of furniture and they were going to wrap it with one of their pads, he said to wrap it in plastic first, so the color from the pad would not rub off on the furniture. It was detailed and that was really good.
When they got to us in Florida, Elijah's work partner never showed up so this poor man had to unload the truck by himself. He was beyond muscle-bound, but very careful. I was not able to help because I’m a little handicapped but my daughter helped with some of the lightweight stuff. He kept saying to let him do it and my daughter told him that he needed to let us help him as it was not his fault that the guy didn’t show up. He would bring in one load and run back to the truck so he would not keep us waiting. This guy was phenomenal. I can’t say enough. But Colonial should do a little better job when they’re screening people so that one guy isn’t left holding the bag.
There were complications because of the condo complex I was moving into. There are small bridges going over little rivers and the bridges can’t support the weight of a big tractor-trailer truck. Colonial worked with us to get a smaller truck so that they could get in to the complex. I’ve already recommended them to two people here in Florida and to one person in Atlanta that was going to be moving.

He texted me when he would be there, how long he’d be there, and he'd give me some updates in terms of being en route, how much the tonnage was on the truck, set up an appointment. He was friendly and very professional. He is really passionate about his work.
I could talk to anybody at Colonial Van Lines. I worked with a few different people on updates and they were definitely very responsive and very accurate with the estimate. I felt like they were in there with me. We looked at different moving types of things, like pods and just the location of the house, and they had gone to Google and looked at the private drive that we were on. I felt very good about that. They were very communicative and proactive. We had a little damage to a clock but they were on it. They had scheduled all the replacement and they got it all taken care of. I started shopping around for rates early summer and Colonial Van Lines was the cheapest. I went on ConsumerAffairs to see the ratings and they recommended Colonial Van Lines. American Van Lines was trying to tell me that they were larger and that they didn’t use agents, but I figured since Colonial Van Lines is one of ConsumerAffairs' recommended companies, they can’t be bad. Eventually, I didn't regret going with Colonial Van Lines at all. I divorced last year and my ex-husband moved about two miles from my house, so I had furniture and appliances that were gonna go to his house. Colonial moved everything going to his house and it didn’t take them long to do that. I liked their willingness to accommodate me even on short notice.
They were a van line and I didn’t have to have other people’s belongings on the same truck as mine because they offered a straight truck. It was also offered at a reasonable price. I got a straight move and it was based on weight. Even though I did not have enough weight on there, I had exclusive use, so rather than waiting until after I relocated to purchase the furniture I wanted, I purchased it already and had it delivered.
From my sales rep down to the moving coordinator, they kept me in the loop the entire time because my move was predicated on the sale of my home, which my home still hadn’t sold, and they kept in touch over time. I had a situation where I could not put my move on my credit card because I had to wait until after I had closed on the purchase of my home. It was exactly two weeks away from my move date and they were still able to accommodate me. I kept them in the loop the entire time leading up to me closing until the day that I closed. I was given a clearance, so I was able to inform them to get the move going with the deposit.
The account manager kept in touch, although I was a little leery at the beginning about her because she was new to the company. I could tell she was reading a script when I had questions and that was unsettling with me, but I was patient with her. She constantly called to check in and to make sure I have been contacted by the agent that Colonial Van Lines used prior to their arrival, as well as to confirm if they arrived. She even contacted me after their departure and did a survey as to how they moved everything out of the house to the point of when they moved everything into my new home.

When everything was delivered, they cared enough to call me and make sure everything was fine, like if there was any damage or anything. The movers they hired were absolutely wonderful. They put everything together. They were great. Nothing was broken or damaged. They took care of my stuff as if it was their own. You would be stupid if you wouldn't hire them.

My husband and I were moving from Indiana to Tennessee in October. I searched online and found Colonial Van Lines out of Florida. They seemed reasonably priced and were able to move us when we needed. The plan was to move October 18-20. With a down payment placed, we made the reservation. The week before, we were told by CVL that there wouldn't be a truck ready so we needed to wait. A date was never told to us until I pushed for one. Finally, October 26-27 was when it would happen.
Upon arrival, the moving truck didn't have any CVL branding on it. It looked like a non-descriptive semi. The movers themselves didn't speak a lot of English and were not very helpful. After two days of putting our stuff in the truck, we were told that the moving truck would arrive Sunday, October 28 by noon in Tennessee. My husband and I drove through the night on Saturday to ensure we arrived. Noon rolled around and we didn't hear anything from Sergie the "head mover". I tried contacting CVL and didn't get an answer. I tried calling CVL several times on Monday and Tuesday with the only response being, "We don't know where the truck is. We received a phone call on Wednesday October 31st Halloween at 815 am! They went to the wrong address!
When they got there they decided they couldn't maneuver the truck down our driveway. CVL could have googled our address to see pictures of the house. After wasting a couple of hours, they decided we had to pay more money to bring it down the driveway. We also found out that they went to Michigan to pack up and deliver to new place instead of delivering our belongings. All which was scheduled by CVL Dispatcher!! ALL LIES BUT IF WE WANTED OUR BELONGINGS WHICH WE WAITED FOUR DAYS TO GET OFF THE TRUCK WE HAD TO GIVE THEM $5511.00 FIRST!! So to date we have paid over $9100 for this move.
When all was said and done, we were overcharged for boxing up items (which I have in an email was not necessary despite what the movers said). Our items were not directly shipped to Tennessee which is where we were waiting and the overall customer service was atrocious. At one point, James from CVL told us when trying to find out when the truck would arrive in Indiana that "we must deal with the cards we were dealt". Please do not use this company unless you want to be afraid of your belongings disappearing and be overcharged for poor customer service.

We worked with Colonial Van Lines when we moved from Virginia to Arizona. I liked their price and the guys that delivered the furniture did a great job. They didn't take long and they were cool guys. However, they picked up my stuff later than the time that we had previously scheduled, so I got my household goods late. Also, I wasn't told that I would have to pay cash once the car got here. But the guy that delivered the car did great as well.

Years ago, my husband and I were in the military and Colonial was one of the companies that moved for us at the time. Recently, I went with them again for a personal move. Though the rep underestimated our inventory, the movers were all great. However, I had a problem with two bookcases as they put tape directly on them instead of on the padding. So, when we took the tape off, it pulled the wood off of the bookcases. Another thing I noticed was that I had a bunch of jewelry that I had in a drawer and instead of putting it in a small box and putting that box in a bigger box, they just dumped it in the box and had clothes on top of it. There were also wardrobe boxes that they stuffed my hanging clothes in instead of hanging them up. Things were good overall but some details could've been improved.

Take all of the 1-star reviews and the 5-star reviews that began as 1-star reviews on Google, and that is our experience with Colonial Van Lines & their subcontractor RELO Van Lines. As a matter-of-fact, I was told by the sales agent I first interfaced with, Gian-Carlo, that they use their own trucks and personnel. That was not true in our case - - and apparently in the huge majority of reviewers.
It would be easier for me to advise the visitor/reader to review all the recent 1-star reviews for Colonial, because that would just about cover our entire experience with them. We have moved extensively over the past decade - overseas, having split shipments, local, interstate, multiple companies. This is THE WORST moving company we have ever dealt with.
Theft of property, needless damage to belongings, severe lack of communication with client, faulty estimation of weight to garner funds at pickup, misleading, significant delay in delivery, exceptionally poor customer service, no accountability taken, no sincere reconciliation to customer, and last night as my wife checked through the last unopened plastic container we packed ourselves, they had opened and rifled through the contents, no doubt looking for valuables to steal, which they had already done by stealing a box with most of my wife's costume jewelry. She was already heartsick about the theft of sentimental items, but now was even more upset over the violation by representatives of CVL looking through our personal property... that MAY cover everything.
They (RELO) delivered almost 2 weeks past our delivery window, had zero communication with us or our CVL support agent (Mena) during that time, damaged our brand new $3000 Tempurpedic frame and mattress, and a couple of other pieces of furniture. We have been offered some compensation along the same lines as many others, but I continue to see the same horrible experiences we suffered being experienced by others that have used CVL after us. Thieves are still employed, mismanagement runs rampant. We are looking at arbitration and legal avenues for our situation. Would strongly advise others looking to move to look elsewhere.

When I was moving from Tallahassee, Florida to Jamestown, New York, I went online to find a mover and Colonial Van Lines called me. I hired them and they were delightful. The reps that I dealt with on the phone were very nice and thorough, and they gave me a good estimate. The moving staff was very nice as well and I asked them to pack my television and stereo. But they broke my hat rack and I was a little irritated that they didn't unpack the stuff that they had packed in the boxes. They packed up stuff that was loose, then put four rolls of tape on each of those boxes, and it almost broke my rib trying to get one of the boxes open. Other than that, they were very nice during the pickup and the delivery. I ended up paying less than what the reps thought it was gonna be. In addition, I got a discount because I booked the move so early.

They were in touch with me on a regular basis. The crew arrived when they were supposed to and they worked like dogs. They did an awesome job. Colonial Van Lines gave me the best quote for moving my vehicle from Massachusetts to Memphis. I went with them and I had a great experience. Their rep followed up with me and kept me informed. However, I had to pay a little additional at the end because of the distance. They also had a little trouble finding a driver so it cost me $100 more than the actual quote. Still, things went pretty well, Though a little notice in advance would have been a little better, their driver called as soon as he made it outside. When the move was completed, there was no damage to my vehicle.

We were moving from one state to another, from Kentucky to Florida, and Colonial Van Lines had the best price and was willing to do a good job. We went a little over the quote, but it was fairly close. They quoted us a price, but a few days later, they said that the price had just been good for a couple of days. We hadn't realized that, so we talked to a supervisor and they got us back to the price they had quoted us originally. The coordinators did a good job and everything worked out. The driver was really nice and really helpful and also did a really good job. He called us and everything went fine. Overall, the move was good and we had a good experience. They told me they would pick my stuff up on the 5th or 6th. They picked it up on the 9th. The driver told me it would be delivered by the next Wednesday. When I did not get it they said it would be the next Monday or Tuesday. When I did not get it they said on Thursday (Thanksgiving). When I did not get it they said Friday. Then the driver called and said he got held up by the last customer. Then they told me by Monday or Tuesday the next week. When I called on Monday they said my stuff was in Kansas and the roads were closed but hoped to get it there the next day. They finally showed up at 7.30 pm on Monday the 26 and had it unloaded by 9:30 pm. They tried to give me my broken (mended) kitchen cart and I told them I didn't want it in the condition they had it with broken drawers and a piece missing on one of the legs. Terrible experience. Do not use them unless you like being lied to.

I talked on the phone with the moving coordinator, then I got a scheduled time from the moving company. They were supposed to be here within a time window, but they called at 5 o'clock and said they were running late. I'm here alone and I was not having some guys come in my house and move my stuff at nighttime, so I called them and we had to reschedule. Here are some other things we have done in case you are ever caught up in a similar situation. Well, first we wrote this review so that others might benefit from our experience. We hope it is helpful in guiding you toward a more reputable moving company. We contacted the Better Business Bureau. They weren’t much help. We filed a dispute of the charges with our credit card company. They immediately credited us back a large part of the money we had paid to Colonial. This credit is only temporary pending an investigation which is still underway. We are hopeful that the eventual judgement will stay in our favor.
So, please think twice before you chose Colonial as your mover. Look at the many other reviews on this site with stories similar to ours. Broken promises, lost and damaged property and no accountability.
Please don't consider Colonial for your move or for anything else. Our experience with them was totally unsatisfactory. They lied to us about how they were going to pack and transport our property, about when our property would be delivered and about how they would resolve these problems when we called them to their attention. Our property was kept in two different locations. Some was in our apartment and some was in a storage unit. We asked specifically if our property would be loaded, unloaded, stored and reloaded and we were assured that it would not. They told us it would be loaded onto the semi at the apartment and transported directly to our new home. This was a lie. Instead they loaded it onto a shuttle, transported it to Chicago, stored it until they got around to it, then finally reloaded it and moved it to our new home.
We were told they would need a shuttle to pick our stuff up at the storage unit because they couldn't access the storage unit with the semi. They said the shuttle would link up with the semi at the apartment when they would load the shuttle contents onto the semi along with the apartment contents then they would head out directly to our new home. This was a lie. Instead they took all our stuff 400 miles to Chicago. Why did we let them do this? Well, you really don't have much choice. When you've moved out of your old place with really no place to go you're at their mercy and they know it. You've already paid them a substantial amount of money plus they've got your stuff. I suppose if you complain they could unload your stuff out onto the sidewalk and leave. They also lied to us about when our property would be delivered. They gave us a time window which appeared reasonable.
We didn't find out until we were at the new home that the window was a "guideline". We sat for weeks in an empty home. After eating out three meals a day for a week or so we finally figured out to go buy some cheap dishes, pots and pans, etc. so we could at least prepare our own food. We had a few things with us so we could at least take a shower and we purchased a queen size air mattress so we had a place to sleep. When asked about this, the smart aleck point of contact told us we should have read our contract. This is the same contract we signed when we were standing in the street with all our stuff on their truck. When confronted about their lies, Colonial told us they would review the recordings of the phone conversations we had where they made these promises. They later claimed that they had reviewed the recordings and no such promises were made. Another lie. Of course, they would not allow us access to these recordings.
Shortly after our property finally arrived Colonial told us we would be reimbursed for our inconvenience. This was another lie. She later told us no reimbursement would be forthcoming and we have not received any. Our property had obviously been handled very roughly. Several items were damaged or dirty. Some items were missing. Yes, you can file a claim with the carrier or sometimes your homeowner's insurance company. Be aware that the carrier will reimburse you based upon the weight of the property, not on its value unless you purchase the extremely expensive additional insurance they offer. The deductible on your homeowner's policy is probably something like $1000. We have filed a claim with Colonial which, if approved, will cover only a small fraction of the value of the lost or missing property. We have yet to hear from them about this and, honestly, I don't expect to hear anything favorable from these disreputable people.

The guy that moved our stuff though was legit. He was wonderful. He was very professional and he did everything he was supposed to do. He was right there when he said he was gonna be there.
However, I felt like they were unprofessional. They gave me a quote at first, and then they called me two weeks prior the move and increased the quote to $1,000. So, I had to pay a deposit when I didn't need to pay it anyway because our original rate was right on. That was very aggravating. And then, when we got into the move, there were some issues along the way that I had to call about and take care of. While we were in the middle of a move, they called us a couple of times to try to get more money from us because they weren't documenting how much money we already paid. Luckily, I took pictures of what I was paying them, so I just sent that over to prove to them. It was a very stressful experience for us. I would not recommend them.
We do care and take any inconvenience you have experienced with Colonial Van Lines very seriously. Please call me at 954-958-2253 so that I may work on your behalf to address any issues or concerns you may have. Thank you.

And then, for other things that we were committed on, they came through with it. I was talking to other people and they were giving information where you couldn't understand what they were talking about.
I was a little bit flexible because they said they were gonna come at 2:00 on that day but they got there at 4:30. I've moved before, so I know that if they're picking up different loads, they may not be able to really know long it's gonna take them to load something. They don't have any idea how long it was gonna take them to load my stuff. It's all kind of an estimate. But I had a phone number, where I could call the guy that was coming, and he would tell me where he was and that he was hung up somewhere.
They showed up at 4:30 and were out by 8:00, which I was fine with. So go with Colonial Van Lines. My niece used them and she had all kinds of problems. We had lived in California 18 years ago and were here in Florida for about five years. Then because of my husband's business, we went back to Los Angeles where we were residents for over 50 years. We came out here in Florida because of the dampness, the warmth, and because I'm seeking further medical attention. We also have friends here who we've been friends with since we first came and we stayed friends by communication for 16 years.
I found out that Colonial Van Lines go from Florida to LA then turn around and go back to Florida. And that was one of the main reasons I went with them. They had scheduled back and forth and were very nice. The people in LA were fabulous and we love them. And the guy in charge of overseeing the moving was an incredible, young man. We were only with him for a few hours, but we talked to him previously and after. We had a very good relationship with them and the young lady in their home office.
We had done a lot of packing of personal items ourselves but the main objects like the furnishing and the antiques, they did. They wrapped everything cleanly and neatly, and were finished within an hour. They cooperated with us when we found out we couldn't get into the place we were supposed to be in right away. They held our furniture with no charge to us. And then, when we moved out, they got us into storage and then took us out of storage when we wanted.
We moved twice and each time, the quote they've given us was good and was on the nose. Everything else went fine and smoothly. Things came in like it should have. There was no damage and blanketed things just like it was when it left. We were very pleased with them. In fact, I have a friend who used a well-known company who had hired some people who stole most of their furniture and left the truck standing somewhere in the middle nowhere and I told that person about Colonial.

Colonial Van Lines advertised in the local community that we lived in and they said that they had the best prices, so we got their services when we moved from St. Augustine, Florida, to West Virginia near Roanoke. The moving coordinator was really good and went over how everything was gonna operate. Then the moving guys came and did a good inventory when they loaded the trucks. There were four guys that picked up our stuff and they were great. But then only two guys showed up for the unloading, so my grandson and I wound up doing a lot of the work. The guys who delivered our stuff were great too, but they were not enough help. Colonial should have more help and they should have the same group of guys for the loading and the unloading.
We had a lot of problems with the move, but these were not with Colonial. We had sold our house down there and we were supposed to go to the closing up here, but the people that lived in this house didn't move out. We wound up living in the motel for almost three weeks and that wasn't fun. Meanwhile, all our stuff was in the truck and couldn't be delivered because these couldn't be put in the garage, so these wound up being moved all over the place.
The moving guys tried to be very careful with the way they packed everything and we had minimum losses. Some things might have gotten broken with all of our stuff being loaded and unloaded off the truck, then loaded and unloaded again, but it wasn't their fault that they had to load and unload these so many times. The cost for the service kept changing from the quote that they gave us at the beginning of the move, but a lot of that wasn't their fault either. They had to put our stuff in storage, so we wound up paying storage fees. Nonetheless, Colonial Van Lines is a good company and I would recommend them.

I had to find a company that would move her belongings from Virginia to Rhode Island. I called Colonial Van Lines and my first contact person there was very responsive and super helpful so I decided to go with them.
The moving coordinator, Scott, was fantastic. There was a specific issue regarding the logistics because when you’re moving, the person that’s coordinating the moving needs to be there to meet the movers and with the long-distance move, you got a window of 36 hours where the movers could show up. I was flying from Rhode Island to Virginia and I told them that window doesn’t work for me because I can’t be sitting around for 36 hours, waiting to hear when their guys are gonna show up. The coordinator was able to tighten that window for me, which was super helpful.
The actual movers were not quite as well organized but they were very nice people. I felt like they really cared about making sure that things got packed safely and moved safely. They were very kind to my aunt the day that they moved her things into her new home, which was very stressful for her. They were very sensitive about that. I would recommend Colonial Van Lines for their moving service.

Not acceptable after waiting 2 weeks, even if she had no news for us. Then on the day of delivery our truck was delayed for some reason and didn't get to us until 8 pm. Monica called at 2 (the time it was supposed to be here) to confirm and when it wasn't called the other company.
By the time they got here the mover was badgering my husband why we had people calling him 3 times about our delivery. Excuse me?? We've waited 2 weeks for this and then you think it's our problem you got called out doing your job? Pay the extra money and use a reputable company that will pick up and deliver with at least a half smile on the days you want with customer service that's responsive. The one silver lining is that the guys picking our stuff up were super nice and professional.

I was moving four hours away which wasn’t that far and everybody else came up with high price checks. Colonial Van Lines was the lowest so I went with them. We did the quote over the phone but I would probably not do that again. I had a pellet stove which was very heavy so we decided not to try to move it ourselves. Somehow, that got screwed up and ended up costing me more money to get it up here because of its weight.
During the move, I didn't get any specific times and dates. I wanted to move this date and I understood that it probably wouldn't happen in one day. That they would do it and it would be an overnight thing. That was okay but then, that was even in question. I thought I had to be in Maine to sign my closing papers, and then, all of a sudden, I found out that they weren't coming on Thursday and I was supposed to be in Maine on Friday. So, that caused some angst. It ended up okay, but only because I didn't have to sign anything that day and I had to do it over the phone. When you ask for somebody to pick your stuff up at one day and then drop you off at another day, you would expect them to be there because you're trying to plan everything else out. Nevertheless, the guy who did it was okay.

You should definitely give them a call and they’ll definitely take you step-by-step. We moved from San Francisco to New York four years ago and then we moved from New York to LA. We wanted to keep it in the same budget and Colonial was the closest one. They have one of the better deals. I got in touch with the operator who was in charge of issues and she was very nice and she always followed up. We kept in touch until all our stuff got here and there was good communication with Colonial. If they didn’t pick up, I left a message, they’d followed up either that day or the following day. The rep was mostly talking to everyone once we got to LA and everything was the same as how we packed them. The movers came over, mentioned how things work and moved the stuff wherever I wanted them to put it. I’d recommend Colonial.

The representative from Colonial Van Lines whom I spoke with was amazingly helpful. The rep sent me information, answered all my questions, followed up with me several times, and that made all the difference. I was moving out of a house in two different locations. They facilitated a move from Illinois to Vermont and a move from Illinois to Indiana. It was really small moves ‘cause we didn’t have a lot of furniture left. The other thing I liked about Colonial was their minimum weight was less than some companies. The minimum was like 2,250, whereas some companies had a minimum weight of 5,000, which meant I would have been charged for 5,000 pounds. And I really only had around 2,200 pounds. So, the rate structure of Colonial Van Lines was more favorable for a smaller move like mine.
Initially, I was going with another van line ‘cause I couldn’t pull up any reviews for Colonial. In the rep's follow-up call, I told her I decided on somebody else. Then she asked why and I told her. She said she could provide that for me. She connected me to online evaluations and I appreciated her going that extra mile. And the reviews were all very favorable. And then follow-up beyond that as I moved through the process, she was always there, or she would hand me to the appropriate person. Colonial had a good coordination system where I get to the quality person or the person scheduling the trip.
For each of the two moves, I reviewed the list of stuff with the quality department. Then when I was passed to the delivery group, they would communicate with me when the move was. The actual guys that moved were with WeHaul and it was one of the same guys for all the moves to Vermont. He picked up and dropped off in Vermont and picked up and dropped off in Indiana. He and whoever was with him did a great job both times, just pleasant as could be. I had read online reviews of other companies where there were disagreements with the movers ‘cause they said, “This wasn’t what was on your list,” or, “It’s more than what was on your list.” There were none of those with these guys and everything was on the list. They were also cooperative and happy and they just wanted to please. I would definitely recommend Colonial Van Lines.

We all know that moving is extremely stressful. Essentially your life is turned a bit upside down and you need and expect your move to be as stress-free as possible. I've moved 9 times in my life and I have never had a "perfect" move. We are moved in and all of our boxes have been opened and our things put away. Our things arrived in perfect condition and the movers were fantastic. Ultimately, this is the result we wanted. Unexpectedly, I was recently contacted by a Colonial representative, Donna **, to review and discuss my experience and any issues. Donna listened and addressed my minor issue expeditiously. I give Colonial Van Lines a huge thumbs up for taking this bold step in ensuring customer satisfaction. I will move again and I will use Colonial Van Lines with the confidence of knowing that they will make things right when the inevitable happens.

When I found out that there were a few more boxes, I called and there was no problem adding them to the inventory. She was very sharp and kind. The people who delivered the stuff were all nice, very professional, caring, and willing to do anything to help. If I were to move again, I would certainly look to Colonial for the service.

From the start there were problems. The moving company person brought his son with him. He was loud and did not respect my property. He was laying with my bike, dropped it and broke the mirror, I never said anything because accidents happen. He was watching videos on the phone, very loud and sitting on the couch with his shoes on it. Again not bad but for the price I paid I expected better. My furniture was to be delivered on the 10th and it was several days later. Several things were broken, and they left items in Canada! I moved to Washington! He again brought his child who was using a razor blade knife to cut the plastic on my couch. I did not expect a child to be doing work I paid a lot for!!
The things that were missing came a week and a half later. The sewing table had 3 broken wheels, and I never got the dolly. The service was terrible. Getting someone to call back was impossible. I was offered 377 dollars to settle, but expected me to give a favorable review and drop the case at the BBB. No way was the stress and aggravation worth 377 dollars. There have to be much better companies out there. Some that care about their customers. Well over 6000 dollars was too much to pay for poor service!

We had two homes. We had sold the one in North Carolina and were moving back to our other home in Maryland. I googled movers for the area and Colonial Van Lines was high in the list. And Colonial was wonderful. Hurricane Florence hit in the middle of this thing and we were in Southport, North Carolina, which is right where it hit. So I had to go back and forth with Colonial about three times and they were very flexible with our dates because of extenuating circumstances that were totally beyond our control.
When that hurricane hit, we were up here in Maryland. But the settlement on the condo that we were selling was delayed. Plus the elevator was out for over a week, waiting on parts, and Colonial couldn't have moved us without the elevator. Then we decided we would leave everything down there and pay through the end of the year or we would move back to Maryland whenever they opened I-95 again. I talked with the moving coordinator a lot about all that, as well as on the payment side of things. It was a massive move, about 15,000 pounds. We had about 200 boxes and the weight of the move ended up being heavier than we thought. They took it in chunks as we figured out what was going on.
With it being a large move, they wanted to bring an 18-wheeler. I told them they were okay getting an 18-wheeler into the condo complex in North Carolina but that they were gonna have a really tough time getting it into the condo complex here in Maryland. So somebody went out, looked at the configuration and said that I was right. They listened to what I said then they asked about bringing two trucks plus a tow trailer and it worked out. That was beautiful.
They showed up when they said they were going to. And it felt so good to see seven men walking around the corner because I had been handling this thing by myself. I was so grateful that they were there. The guy that managed the team told me that he was there to make me happy, whatever I wanted them to do. I had been packing for about two weeks and was exhausted. So they allowed me time to run the cable boxes up an hour away and turn those back in. Then they packed my kitchen and my China cabinet for me because I didn't have any more energy to do any of that. They were just wonderful. They even reassembled everything afterwards. They did a great job. Colonial Van Lines is first rate. It was absolutely excellent service and I was very pleased with them.

She was very capable, obviously knows what she’s doing. She did an excellent job as far as estimating the wait and the cost of the move and everything went off as she had said it would.
At the end, the cost came in $500 less than what Anne estimated. I could not have been more pleased. They even delivered three days early because they had told me they couldn’t deliver until the 1st of November. I wasn’t expecting them that day, but they showed up on the 27th with all of my belongings. I paid for it and everything was unloaded. The handling of my items was great. The clothes were packed and hanging in large boxes that were tall and they were not crumpled up in any way. I couldn’t have asked for anything better. Now, it was in my house much earlier than I anticipated.

Colonial Van Lines are brokers for the true moving company. Pricing changes during the move, lied about being a moving service with their own fleet, lied about who the representative would be to follow through to the end (called by several other individuals who said they took over as my representative). I was smart enough to call directly to the sub who took the move and stored the furniture. I understand moving companies needing a broker to fill in empty trucks for nationwide moves, why drive from the East Coast to the West Coast, unload and drive back empty? This is why these Brokers help to reduce costs but don't lie about the truth of the company.

Spare yourself the headache and go with a different company. I will NEVER go through Colonial again. I would give them zero stars if I could. I had 5 different representatives consistently call me prior to the move to reiterate the same points that were already agreed upon and I had previously confirmed. I appreciate the follow up, but it was unnecessary to have the same conversation with so many different people, considering if I had questions, I was told to contact my account manager.
However, when actually in need of assistance, the account manager was difficult to get a hold of, so most was communicated via voicemail. There is a two day window for pick up. When I hadn't received a call from the driver or company halfway through the 1st day, I was told that they "weren't sure" of the route and would need to get back to me. I received a follow-up call later that day saying that the drivers had 3 pick ups in my state, and since they were unable to pick up that day, I'd be the 1st in line for the next morning (between 10-12).
I received a call from the driver at 11 am, he shared that he didn't know what time the company told me he would be there, but it'd be between 2-3pm. I once again adjusted my travel accommodations due to their lack planning. At 3 pm, I got a call that the drivers truck broke down and he was unsure of if he would be able to pick up my items at all. After many phone calls and MYSELF figuring out a way for the driver to get a Uhaul, the movers arrived at 5:30 pm that evening.
The driver flat out told me how Colonial does not coordinate with the drivers effectively (i.e. accurate routes, travel time between jobs, etc.). He also said that the customer service reps/salesmen are not forthright with the customers about this and simply see how many jobs they can schedule within a day. When I spoke to the Account Manager, he said he knew he had "calls to angry customers" that he had to make that day, insinuating that he knew I'd be upset due to my experience. With this all in mind- I never received an apology, an offer for a discount- nothing. Horrible customer service! As an Account manager, it is his responsibility to ensure the customers are receiving quality service.
The mess has only continued since the pick up. I've called inquiring when I should expect my delivery and again receive the response that they will call me back or let me know. My items were picked up 13 days ago, and I am just now being informed that my delivery "should" be this evening and that I need to pay prior to my delivery time, now (really? because you've proven to be so reliable?). I am not holding my breath as this company clearly is unreliable, and highly unprofessional not only in the lack of follow-through, but the way that they speak to customers, and their fellow colleagues.

However, it still didn't make up for the fact that their pricing was not what they said. It was just a couple of hundred bucks, so it definitely did not cover anything. I was moving from New York to Colorado. I had half of my stuff in my office and the other half in my home. I looked at a bunch of companies on the internet, and Colonial Van Lines seemed good, big, and reliable. The movers picked up the stuff in the office and then in my home. Then they brought it to New Jersey where it was consolidated. Later, it was brought out to Colorado. The movers were excellent. They were organized, timely and professional. I had three movers and they gave all the time to ensure everything was packed perfectly.
The pricing was accurate, but the timing in terms of when I would receive my goods was not. My stuff was picked up on a Friday and I was told that I would know either later that Friday or Saturday when I would receive my stuff in Colorado. Colonial works with a consolidator and it was with the consolidator that things fell apart. I called each day and I was given reasons like they just didn’t know when yet. Days later I was finally told that I wouldn’t know when the stuff would be delivered until 24 hours before they actually delivered.
When the mover called and told me he would be here within 24 hours, he gave a three-hour window. Then he called me on the last hour to say he didn't think he would be able to make it on time. I’m a therapist and I had to rearrange clients. I lost a whole day of pay. We rescheduled the next day and he showed up late. Two movers came, which would be fine, except, one of them was very overweight and out of shape. They came from DC and they were now in Boulder, Colorado, which has a much higher altitude. Usually, it takes people two or three days to acclimate and he had to walk up two flights of stairs with all my stuff.
The movers unloaded everything onto the sidewalk. I asked who was gonna watch the stuff while they were moving. One guy said one of them would always be down there. That was not true though. They needed two people to lift some of the heavier things so I had to watch my stuff on the street, which was not cool. It took them about five hours to move a one bedroom place and I lost a second full day of work.
Also within the first 20 minutes, they called me at the truck and said, “You may want to look at this.” It was my desk that was cracked in half and they said they didn’t take any steps to move it out of the truck because it was just gonna fall apart even more. I also had boxes that were physically crushed and I had a bunch of things broken, including my plasma screen TV and a few other personal items. They sell you their extra insurance, which, to me, is in case something unusual happens, like a flood. You don’t expect to have to use the insurance due to their negligence. They pay 30 cents on the pound and that means I get paid the same amount whether the item is crystal or a notebook. So even though I lost $2,000 worth for stuff, I only got back about $600. I am not happy with the resolution, but I have no other recourse.

Colonial moved my daughter from Hershey, Pennsylvania to New Jersey. We liked that they charge by the actual weight and not a minimum weight. They do everything online and they have an estimated weight for a table or a chair. As they were showing me the printout that shows the weights, I know they were off quite a bit because the furniture that my daughter had didn’t weigh anywhere near the weights, so that was a positive.
The quote they gave me was overstated, which is fine. They told me what their estimated weights were and that they would overstate it. I ended up paying less than what I thought. The only real concerns that I’ve had right from the beginning were they gave me a two-day window on when they would pick up and an eight-day window on when they would deliver. I don’t understand that. The move was only 153 miles. It’s an apartment and it’s on the first floor, so there were no steps. Also, I found out that they outsourced the job two or three days prior, and that was when I got the first call from the outsourced company to say they were gonna pick up on the second day and not the first day. They also still didn’t know at that time if they were going to be delivering the same day or within eight days. So, it was a little disheartening. That was not easy to plan because everyone has work, and I find that to be not customer-focused.
I didn’t have any communication with the outsourced company until they came and we were told that they were gonna be there by 9 o’clock. They finally got to my daughter’s apartment at 11 o’clock because that wasn’t the time that they were going to deliver. They started at 9 o’clock. They had to first go to their location and get the truck, and then drive to pick up the stuff. So, I thought that part was very weak. Other than those, the move itself went well.

Read the reviews on this company. I wish I had listened and not hired them. They begin by telling you that the account rep will be with you from start to finish - first lie. They said the quote was binding and if it weighed less you would get that deducted. Another lie - they try and charge you more by the pound and never are able to "find" the weigh in papers. They won't open the door of the truck until you pay the balance. No you can't see your stuff and they won't take a bank check (even though the contract says they do). They want a money order or Credit Card. They broke almost everything. Things that were bubble wrapped and well wrapped. China – plates - TV - EVERYTHING. They lost pieces of our electric bikes so we can't use them.
The people they hired to unload must of come real cheap because they put together my son's bed but didn't screw the boards in so the first night he fell through. They put everything no matter what the label said in the garage - piled with boxes. As a concession, they said they would send a crew here to fix everything and bring the boxes out of the garage. After rescheduling a few times, one man showed up. He said he was allowed 4 hours including traveling time. He lived 1 1/2 hours away... So for the hour he was here he worked really hard. He was the only good thing about this experience. I wonder about the 5 star reviews on this site. But then I saw someone say the BBB gave great reviews. They didn't... The experience from start to finish was horrible and the stress they caused was terrible. DON'T USE THEM.

We needed to move from Minnesota to New York for a job and we hired a moving company but had a disaster at the last minute. We went to Colonial because they were my second choice and apparently should have been my first because the other company was a disaster. I talked to the Colonial rep multiple times on the phone and ended up talking to a supervisor one day when the rep was out. They maintained contact over a period of a couple of months which was nice because it took a while to get a move like that. My rep was out of the office a couple of days but whenever I called, somebody else in the office was able to handle it. She was a little reluctant at times to reach back out to the people they subcontracted with but when I was insistent, she did it, which was nice. She was doing the best she could.
It was disappointing though that they delivered the last day within the window that they had available but that was something that had nothing to do with Colonial. The company that they contracted out to do the actual move had some sort of issue because in New York, a boat is needed to move stuff here, so it was crazy. The people that I talked with from Colonial were very helpful whenever they called me or I called them. On the phone, my experience with them went fine. The move, however, didn’t go smoothly at all and I think they need to find another moving contractor. First of all, on the day of my pick up, I assumed that I would have a big van line coming in for my furniture because it was a three-bedroom house. I also explained to them mostly what I had going and yet when the guy came, he was in a small truck. So he had to wait for another truck to come and then there were two trucks. Once they started packing things, that was okay because they were very good at their packing and they took them downstairs.
Duntara, the company that was delivering the furniture, called and gave me a date. But then, I was told by Mike, Duntara's owner, that there was gonna be an extension on that. They were late as they seemed to have had so many problems with their truck. One excuse was that somebody had punctured the fuel line, so we waited two days to get it repaired. It just went on and on until finally, they came on the morning of Labor Day. But by the time they unloaded, they told me that they couldn’t get my couch in the basement. It was still all wrapped up and they put it in the garage. Then I found out later, when I had some people help me move the boxes around, that when they took the wrapping stuff off of it, the box came off of the couch and they were able to move it in. I paid to have all that done. So, the delivery team was not trying hard then. They said the back didn't come off of the couch, but that was only because they didn’t unwrap it to see.
Colonial Van Lines offered good prices and I read some good reviews. Although some reviews were bad, those were the ones on Duntara. I was not aware before the move that Colonial subcontracted to other people to move things. I thought Colonial Van Lines have their big truck and advertised Colonial Van Lines and all that. That’s what I thought I was calling. Nevertheless, I still feel like they were tried their hardest to get information on the delivery schedule and what was going on. I just got the impression that maybe Duntara was not getting back to them. Anyway, I have filled out a report, and I’ve been told that I’m getting a refund of $300 because Duntara was 10 days late. That was three weeks ago and I have not received anything. The longer we wait, it’s not gonna be that good of a report. I was told that I would be receiving the refund, so I’ve been waiting for it.

Original Review: Oct. 21, 2018
When I was looking at the companies and comparing them, I was finding that the mom-and-pop places seemed really sketchy. I wasn’t sure the price they were gonna give me was gonna be the price it was gonna end up to be. It didn’t necessarily seem like there was gonna be a lot of accountability or sway on anything that I did with them. So I also got quotes from the bigger guys but it was out of my price range. We were relocating quite a distance in a short time period. It was from Albany, New York to Chicago, Illinois and it was during the busiest part of the moving season, and we weren’t really getting any benefit from the company to pay for it. We were on our own so we needed to find something that was in our budget as well as something that we were comfortable enough to choose. That’s why we landed with Colonial. They felt big enough but the price they quoted us wasn’t as bad as the bigger carriers.
I initially worked with someone who gave me my quote and took care of the things from that standpoint. After that, they gave me an account coordinator who was supposed to walk us through the whole move process and on the day of pick up and the day of delivery, they would call, check out how things were going and make sure everything was okay. They were fine except for the fact that they severely underquoted me on how much product I had to be shipped. We were 3,000 pounds over what they had estimated which was definitely a shock from my standpoint. And it definitely drove the price up.
When they did the estimate, they seemed like they just cared about the bigger items of the house, like how many couches and anything that wouldn’t really fit in boxes. Even in reviewing as they took the items out of the house, I accurately represented those items so there wasn’t any surprise items that weren’t in there. I was baffled as to how they didn’t get that correctly. It seemed like it was just boxes of stuff that really drove me over. They’ve counted a certain number of boxes and then I was over by quite a bit.
So I was a little frustrated that they were so far off, and they couldn’t really explain it. They really weren’t willing to do anything about that portion of it either. I expected that they might have apologized that they goofed on their estimating and said that they would split the difference and meet us in between. But that was not what happened. I called the customer service a few times about the price but it really didn’t seem like they were gonna budge or try to do anything about it. Basically, I was stuck at that point. They had my stuff and I had a short time for my move. I was moving so far and other places I talked to were booked out.
We also waited until we were able to close on the house then we made sure that we had the moving company scheduled. We closed on Friday and the moving company was supposed to come some time during the next week to deliver our stuff. But they missed their delivery window and another week and a half passed before I actually got my stuff in the house.
My account coordinator had helped me through the move and talked to me before and after. But during that week of delivery, I never got a call from my account manager to say the delivery was gonna be on Friday or to apologize that Friday was gonna be passed and that it was gonna be Monday or Tuesday. I had to call her to get updates and figure out what was going on. I got to the point where I actually stopped hearing from her, and at that point, I wasn’t getting on the phone at all. I could get people like from calling a random number but I couldn’t get the actual person who was assigned to my account. They were supposed to call and tell me, check during the move and the delivery, and then call me afterwards to make sure everything was okay. But Colonial didn’t do any of that. The only interaction I had at that part was from the van line itself. Even when I finally got a delivery date, it was the actual van line that I had heard from.
Then when the stuff arrived, we found out that the van lines broke a few things, mostly due to bad packing. The TV was broken because they packed it in a box with a blanket instead of with bubble wrap around it. Both of our bed frames were also broken. We weren’t able to put our daughter's crib together either and she's still sleeping in her Pack 'n Play because they didn’t deliver the crib correctly.
Then a week later, we found out that we were still missing some stuff as well. They weren't the big stuff so it was hard to figure out that we were missing these few items. We had a piggy bank for my daughter from her christening and it was stupid on us that we didn’t pull the money out of that before we moved. But during the actual packing of the move, they took $300 out. There were still a couple checks in the piggy bank but most of the money was gone. We were also missing a couple of bottles from my daughter’s room, some puzzles and a few DVDs.
It was a bad experience. The only thing that would have been worse is if they scammed use out of our money and didn’t deliver our stuff. But this is the next closest thing to being in somewhat of a horror story. I complained about it and I did talk to them about claims. A guy called me last week about trying to rectify monetarily and he said he was gonna provide me a document about a fee to round up the thing. But then, I never saw anything emailed to me from him. So even the claims process is falling back on me.
Hi Michael, thank you for making us aware of the issues you faced during your move. I have notified our resolutions manager, Donna of your concerns and she will be in contact with you soon in order to assist you.

I had done my homework to know that Colonial Van Lines was number one according to Better Business Bureau and Consumer Reports. And that was what I wanted. I wanted number one because I went through a divorce and I’m single. I was working with a limited amount of money and every dollar counted. I wanted someone who was gonna take care of me. The first person I talked to at Colonial Van Lines was spectacular. But then there were other people who contacted me saying they were my manager. I ended with someone named Tyrone.
I moved from a single bedroom and according to the list that I gave, their expectation was that I would probably have 24 boxes. I had a loan of $5,000 to do this. I was told it was gonna be $2,800 and I knew it would go up but the actual was $5,200, which was more than I had anticipated. I didn't mind that the price went up though. I had a lot of books and heavy, glass-framed artwork. But part of the reason that the price went up was because the time frame of when I was supposed to have the pickup was not met.
The time frame was a two-day thing. Then out of respect to me, Tyrone added a third day, which was before the two days. But he was very clear. He said that he was just trying for me but he didn't expect that it was gonna happen. But what happened was that the people who were scheduled to come bailed the day before. That wasn't Colonial's fault. But it threw my schedule off for two days which meant that my sister could not come with me. She was gonna drive her own car so there was a whole car load of things that would have not been on the truck.
Also, I had scheduled either the 17th or the 18th to have the pickup because the 19th was my last day at the apartment. But what happened was that I couldn’t leave until after that. So I had to pay more money to the apartment people. I had these extra expenses and when I got the phone call to tell me that the pickup had to be delayed, it was from a woman that I hadn’t talked to at all. She was vivacious, vibrant and cheery. She immediately started saying there would be compensations. She didn’t even flinch and at that moment, I wasn’t even thinking about the expense. But I respected and appreciated that. I thought it was why Colonial was number one. They knew how to handle people. But I never heard from her again.
I couldn’t get Tyrone to get back and talk with her either because by the time Tyrone was aware of what was going on, I was saying there was going to be compensation but he said no because the new peole that they had gotten haven't come late. I told him that Colonial Van Lines is number one for a reason. They had taken care of these problems before. This was not new. This has happened before and there’s a plan. It was not my fault and it was not their fault. But it would matter from the point of view of their reputation of being number one that they know how to handle the situation.
I told him there was someone at their office who was gonna know how to handle this and that he needed to talk to somebody. When he called back and said there was no compensation, I told him to check again. Then he asked me how much I wanted. But at that point, I wasn't aware how expensive it was going to be. I told him something in the vicinity of $325. It was again, push, push, push. He said we would deal with it later but I said I wanted to talk to someone right then. In the end, he offered about $125 and I could have had more had I sent him the bill from the apartment. But here's the thing. I didn’t get anything. It was not like, “We’ll give you a little bit now and we’ll give you a little bit more later.” No. There was no money that came to me. Also, one thing that wasn’t clear was that they would not send a Colonial van.
It’s been a tough go but this does happen. And yet, there was not a contingency plan for when that happens. There needs to be. I would love a gift from Colonial Van Lines. They could have given me $300 and although it isn’t gonna able to cover the difference between $2800 to $5200, they would have had a stronger sense of commitment to the customer. I would have been willing to tell that story. Instead, I’ve got a different story to tell.

Negative stars... The absolute worst experience of my life. As a retired Marine, I have used numerous moving companies, so I am not new to moving local or cross country. I scheduled a move from Louisville KY to WA state this past summer. All went well; home visit to estimate weight/cube volume etc etc. Emails answering questions. When we got within 96 hours of load day, things started getting fishy. When I would inquire about the actual moving day, I still got non-committal answers-"We're having problems finding a driver for your route." OK, that's why I scheduled 3 months out and said my dates were flexible.
The day before the pickup day, we still hadn't heard from the company or driver. This is when Colonial went into full shake and bake. Any call I made was transferred to non-existent departments, full voice mails, fax machines. I was hung up on in the middle of explaining the situation. Luckily I found a corporate email and sent a lengthy comment on just wanting to find out what was going on. The next morning-our pickup day!
Our original Colonial representative called up, and like canceling a coffee date said, "We're sorry, we couldn't find a driver. We're cancelling your move." What?! What kind of national company cancels on the day they are supposed to pick your HHG up? "But we're going to refund your $5,000.00 deposit." You thought you were going to keep it. Luckily we had boxed ourselves up. I ran around and got two of the largest U-Hauls (26 footers) and hired some guys to help pack and did what I had to do to move. Of course, I'm a disabled vet (the reason I wasn't moving myself in the first place) so this was a fun experience. Oh, and since I couldn't fit all my HHG in two U-Hauls, I got to fly back cross country and get another van to bring the rest. If I knew I had a chance I would send the bill to them. Mark my words.

When we had to move a car from Georgia to California, I made several calls to Colonial Van Lines and discussed things with them. Since the price they gave was a little bit better than other moving companies, I chose them. The coordinators for Colonial were good. Although we had a bit of a problem with the company that they used to transport the car, as soon as I called them and told them what was going on, Colonial handled the entire thing immediately and very professionally. I was very pleased. In addition to that, the time of pickup and delivery of my vehicle was flawless and the quote they gave was dead on. Overall, Colonial did a great job. I would definitely recommend them.

I was not pleased with the people who moved us. They were very late. The were supposed to come in noon, but came in at about 6 o'clock. They called and told us they would be late, and that they would be coming at a certain time, but they still weren’t there at that time. Then when they got here, they told us everything was too heavy, that we packed too much stuff and that some things were not packed right. Then, they dumped some things that we have into other boxes and broke a fan in my lanai. They weren't accommodating. But the Colonial arrangers did a good job above that. Everything went fine with Colonial's account manager. She was very courteous and accommodating. She did all the work with my daughter. Overall, we had a good experience with Colonial. They just need to screen the movers that they hire.

We moved from Maryland to Denver as I had just finished with a grad school and accepted a job in Denver. And given Colonial Van Lines' very competitive price, we decided on using them for the move. We had a very polite rep assist us and whenever I email him a question, he would always follow-up with replying through email or a phone call. They also helped me estimate my inventory over the phone, like I walked from room to room and gave an explanation of what we had. We had some heavy pieces of furniture, plus the weight of the boxes, so I had suspected that the estimated weight would go up, but considering that the guy wasn’t there, it was good. And then even when they got the final weight and the price at the very end of the move, it was still lower than the initial estimate.
They were very clear and concise with their communications, like when we were getting the date straightened out and when the movers are gonna come, so that was really good. Then on the delivery side, they were good about communicating as well and they were flexible when we needed them to be flexible. And so overall, the move went well. They beat the hell out of the boxes, but there wasn’t anything broken inside so we’re happy about that.

I was moving for personal reasons and I wanted somebody else to do it for me. Colonial Van Lines' moving coordinator came in and looked at everything. He was fairly accurate. We had a good interaction and I felt good about the accuracy of the service and expectations that he set. Their account manager was spot on and she kept us up to date. The two guys that did our move were outstanding as well. They got us moved out of Mississippi, then to South Carolina just a couple days later. We were very happy with the experience.

They put everything where we wanted them to put it, and they checked everything and made sure there were no scratches.

I put out a need for a van line and Colonial Van Lines was the first that answered. I talked to Carlos and he was really a sharp guy on this moving. He helped me a lot. He didn’t give me the runaround and he just told me what it was gonna be and what it was gonna cost. When I would call back and he was busy, he would call me back and would talk about the move.
I had a couple of changes like deleting some furniture we were gonna move and added some more. And they figured it all out and they came out about the same as what we had to start with. The team for the pickup and delivery came prepared well and was very good. You could tell they had moved a lot of people ‘cause we had not anything that was damaged, nothing that we had to make a claim. One guy, whose name was Tony had been moving people for several years and he was a real professional. I would recommend Colonial because they did a perfectly good job for us. It was the first time we made a big move like that, and they moved 700 pounds of stuff for 700 miles and they did it well. Also, what we paid was what was quoted in the beginning.

I live in Maryland and I needed help in moving a small load to a remote little town in Iowa 1,000 miles away. I tried to do PODS but when I added up all the cost, PODS didn't work. I was going to rent a truck. I thought using a moving company would be a wiser move and Colonial Van Lines had advertised as being able to do small moves. Colonial said that when they load it up, they would pile it off. They also said that I would get the driver's name and phone number and that they could keep in touch as to when the load would be arriving but that was not the story. My things had been unloaded and reloaded on another truck without my knowledge and that other truck pulled up in front of my place in Iowa.
The first movers were wonderful and very confident. In fact, he showed me on this one antique table that I have that there was a slight crack. That table was the first thing that came off the truck and it was broken. Somewhere out there, my stuff was unloaded and reloaded and the other people weren't aware of the tenderness of that table and it got damaged! I had talked to them and they said that I could fill out forms. I only paid $26 on that antique but it was an antique table. I had mostly boxes, so I didn't feel the need to ensure the load because some of the things were new. Even the guys complimented me on how well I packed. Also, I felt like there were always little add-ons from the salesman but I was naive. Colonial said that they were gonna contact the salesperson but that was just lip service to appease me. I have another move coming up and Colonial just lost it.

Colonial Van Lines had good reviews and pricing. In fact, the quote was very fair and it reflected the amount of work done. I used them for a personal move when we sold our home in Illinois and were moving to a home in Wisconsin. It was difficult to reach the account manager at times to check on the status and the timing of the move. But once it was underway, it was fine. They were always helpful and my experience dealing with them was very positive. The subcontractor did a great job too. I would highly recommend Colonial Van Lines.

I'm a Senior citizen and I didn't want to fool with the moving like I did in the past. I Googled the moving companies and Colonial Van Lines popped up first. It looked okay so that's where we went and my experience with them was fine. They were good. They brokered and contracted with an actual moving company that did the moving from Bojou City, Louisiana to Indianapolis, Indiana. My wife and the family did all the packing and put everything in boxes The contracted company loaded it and we had an understanding on the window when they were going to deliver. However, the truck had a problem so the window moved and they still hit the last possible day of the window which was okay.
There was a web page which gave good descriptions of things that we might have, wherein I could plug in numbers of different items. We just filled it in and then submitted it and they gave us a low and a high quote and we hit about the middle. We were able to get a good idea of what it would cost and we knew ahead of time to be able to secure some money to do that.
Our contact person at Colonial walked us through the process and provided the hand-out that was filled with how much, what the items are etc. Then there was a young lady who was the real contact person when the move started. She was really helpful. She stayed on top of the company who did the move. However, they didn't communicate some things to her. She wasn't aware of it until she contacted me. So, she did a follow up and got it back on track for ourselves. It is important that she did that and I appreciated her for doing that. My overall experience was good. I'm glad to have somebody else to do the move for us and Colonial was very helpful.

When I moved from Southern California to Seattle, I used Colonial because they had the best price. The coordinator was super responsive and helpful along the way. He called me and I walked him through what I had, and then they gave me a quote. It was a fairly accurate quote, which was within 500 or 600 bucks of the actual cost. The moving company, R & R, showed up on time for pick-up but the drop-off was a bit delayed. It was communicated to me that the drop-off was gonna be sooner, but it ended up happening five days later. Still, it was a great experience overall.

This is a horrible company. They made such amazing promises to us and broke almost every single one of them. Firstly they lied when they CONFIRMED when the movers would come which threw off our entire schedule forcing us to get a hotel with a newborn and two cats. The movers themselves, outsourced which we were told wouldn't be a thing, were soooooooooo unprofessional. They complained about packing things we had specified, complained how heavy our mattress was, and overall were aggressive. They also smoked in the bed of the truck amongst all my furniture, and caused numerous other damages with their mishandling of our items. I've never had a more stressful move. This company is also refusing to give us the compensation we are asking for. If you don't prefer stress and like your things do not use this company.

I stayed in contact with a representative through email and throughout the whole process. The communication and interaction with them were good. The pickup and delivery were also good. The only thing that I think that was dropped was we had mentioned that we needed a car hauled, and they never came to haul the car. So, we had to go with an outside trucking company to go ahead and do that. But overall, the services and expectations were accurate. It was two truckloads and it was about 800 miles. I moved because of business and went with Colonial Van Lines because of the pricing. And at the end, the quote was fair and pretty accurate.

Colonial's pricing was good and the person whom I've talked to seemed to be very knowledgeable. I was comfortable with him. However, every time I got a phone call when there was something that was going on, it was someone different all the time which I did not like. So, I think it would be best if once the person doing the quoting is done, hand it off to the rep, and keep the same rep. So they would have the folder and I wouldn't have to re-invent the wheel to explain the situation each time 'cause that was frustrating for me. Nevertheless, the reps did a good job.
We moved furniture out of Mexico, so I used an importer-exporter. Colonial picked it up for my importer-exporter in San Diego and brought it to me in Wisconsin. The drop off was great and the two guys were wonderful. We had little light rain which broke in between so they had to come right down the hill and put it in garage or in the basement. But they got here a day early and gave me an advanced notice for that.

Colonial Van Lines is less expensive compared to other companies. I chose them because of this and the availability. I just explained the rooms that I wanted to move and the pieces of furniture, and they calculated it based on the weight. The moving coordinator told me how many boxes I will have and how many boxes it will be and it was pretty close to the estimate. I added some things in the end, so it increased a little bit but the estimate was right on. The account manager told me they’ll be there on time their guys came and picked it up on time.

I moved about a month ago with Colonial Van Lines for a personal relocation and although I’ve moved probably 12 times in my lifetime, those were nothing like this experience. I’ve used a bunch of other companies before, including Mayflower and Allied, but moving companies all have bad reviews on the internet. Nobody takes the time ever to say anything good about them so people probably have had good experiences but I didn’t find any reviews that were good.
This time, I took my chances with Colonial Van Lines. Three different people worked with us and they were all really good. I liked the beginning, the middle and the end. The people were really buttoned down and they were really good in terms of the follow-up. They called me a couple of days after the move and asked how everything was going. The quote was also reasonable and when the weight ended up being less than we thought, they rebated that money back. We had moved 4,000 pounds from Houston to Sarasota, which was not much. But we're moving down there over a period of time and that was the stuff we wanted to keep. On the move itself, the guy was running late but that was because the order ended up being 1,000 pounds more than what he was told it would be. Other than that, the whole thing went very well. I’m surprised how well it went.

This is one of the worst companies I have ever worked with. When I selected Colonial Van Lines I thought I was contracting with a reputable company. We were definitely spoiled with all of our military moves that went smoothly. We should have been put on notice when the pickup of our delivery had so many problems. The delivery is going worse. Based on what we were told by their service agent we scheduled and expected our household goods to be delivered three weeks ago. I starting calling Tuesday of the expected week to get an update.
Now three weeks later the service agent can't even get a reply from the driver regarding our delivery. We have called or emailed Colonial Van Lines practically every day to try and find out when our goods would be delivered. At this point, when the agent does call us, all she can say is "I can't get hold of the driver." The lack of transparency is appalling - if our household goods are lost or stolen tell us. I don't care that they subcontracted this work to NuLyfe, another terrible company out of Atlanta GA. I guess our next step is to pursue the tedious legal avenues available to us. I could never recommend this company and plan to file an official compliant with every state and federal agency that holds their license. If anyone has recommendations on how to handle this situation please post a reply.

I had contact with a couple different companies and I liked that the girl that I was dealing with from Colonial Van Lines was really good. So, I decided to go ahead with Colonial. The mover showed up a few days early, but it turned out to be fine. They seemed nice but disorganized and we have a claim now because they damaged the front of our soffit and fascia around our garage. When I dealt with the owner of their company, he was blatantly rude and called me a liar. I run businesses and that’s a huge no-no, and I told him we didn’t have to lie.
We could afford to get this fixed ourselves. When I was discussing it with him, he cut me off and then tried to switch around what I was saying. He said one of their guys didn’t do it. I even gave them the name of the person who did it. I said his brother was driving, this guy backing and he opened the door. He probably didn’t mean it, but he did do it. And there was damage on one of our dresser mirrors. I know it wasn’t there before. They were frustrating. But the representative from Colonial was always great in getting back to me, whether it be phone, email or whatnot. She would follow-up and when she said she would call back, she did. I scheduled a move with Colonial Van Lines for a Sept 22 or 23 pick up. After several calls where no one had an answer, I was told that the movers would not be able to get a truck to pick me up. I was moving my mother into an assisted living facility 600 miles away, closer to me. NOT moving was not an option. She had to get moved. I had to leave the house before we had the movers showed up. My uncle, who was visiting and lived further away had to stay until I could get a mover confirmed. The accountability by Colonial Van Lines was and still is deplorable. No one returns calls. No one has answers. This company is a massive scam. I should have known when they could not commit to a date of pick up.
I have moved many times in my life and have never had a two day window for pick up. Long story short, and severe stress on our end, I had to pay a mover $1300 more for a last minute move. I expressed this to a Colonial "executive" and told him they should pay me the difference. They should. It was not our fault that Colonial was BREACH OF CONTRACT on this deal. This is not over for me. The stress caused by their ineptness is unacceptable for anyone in their business. That lack of follow through so unprofessional. The inability to tell me in a timely manner that a truck was not available unacceptable. And I found that out only because I called them for answers.
I called to speak to a manager at 9 am on a business day and was told 4 were working but none could come to the phone. I called again this morning and as I write this, have been on hold for a manager for 21 minutes. So again, let the buyer beware. Do not try to save money and use them as your mover. You will spend more in the long run.

The total bill amount was not the amount I was told, I immediately brought it to attention and billing dept rep placed me on hold and said my moving representative Anthony ** would revise the corrected amount. I was about to board the plane email company rep asking to email back the correct invoice. However response I received was beyond ridiculous, he said amount he quoted me on was based on one of dates which we discussed week ago.
When I spoke to the rep on 9/19 to tell him the date which I decided to move and finalize the cost of moving my car and household goods, which was 9/26th. I then asked him to cancel the job order because I felt if this company is dishonest about thing like this, I better be off with other. Next day Paul ** from company assurance department reached out assuring me that he will fix the situation and give them another chance. Because of earlier incident with previous rep, I was meticulous about the precess of move. I disclosed numbers of moving items and my apartment being on 4th floor with no elevator. I asked numerous time if the total we decided will be change, he assured me by saying unless I added large items like household appliance, it will be what it's quoted.
I was then supposed to be contacted by dispatcher in regards to appointment time for moving date/time and after sending out numerous emails to its company, my assigned dispatcher contacted me said the moving guys will be here next day @ 7 am, which was 10 hrs away. The moving day finally come and when the third party hired moving staff came in, he gave me the invoice with almost $1000 increased from the price, I was told. It was so appalling but since it was 7 am, I couldn't contact company to speak with my dispatcher. I quickly sent email to Paul asking him to response. Meanwhile one of moving staff was throwing up thru my hallway window and they was rolling off my moving boxes from 4th floor to ground level.
It was a nightmare. The staff said how Colonial Van Lines is never good with communication and they were never told about walk upstairs and boxes indicated are all based in medium sized boxes so there will be extra charge. What the moving staff was saying was completely not true, I went over the details with Paul many times. Later that day Mena from the company called asking about the move, I explained to her what has happened, she said she will investigate and get in touch with me next day which will be Thursday.
There was no follow up and I have left numerous messages and emails and I have not heard from the company. It's 9/29 and I have no idea where my household goods are nor when they will get to my destination. I have not been sleeping because I feel like I have been deceived not once twice from this company. She also went to the extent of saying that if the weight was more than the estimate, they will still honor the price. I should have caught the flaw right there but I missed it. And, I signed the contract.
Closer to the move, the account manager calls. She mentioned that once I have a place to move I have to inform her and she will coordinate with the truck and get my stuff. That's when she mentioned that they will have a window within which they will deliver. I said but if I needed it on a specific date, why would I pay for additional days it sat on the storage. She mentioned that I'll only pay for the date I had requested rather than their actual delivery date (I hope they will at least keep this up).
The movers came. They were ok. I only wish they hadn't used my plastic wrapper and tapes. The mover told me that they will weight after the pickup and Colonial will give me the actual price based on the weight. Damn the salesperson talk. Ok, I'll at least know the actual price once they weigh. I found my apartment for 9/10 and informed the account manager on 8/27. She had asked me to give two weeks notice so she can work out the time with the truck driver. Today is 9/16 (three weeks since I informed), she has no idea where my stuff is and what my final price will be and when my stuff will really make it.
They keep telling me that my window to get my stuff starts on 9/10 and ends on 9/22. I don't know why they needed two weeks notice before the start window of that "window" and wonder why the account manager to this minute couldn't get hold of the driver to find where my stuff is and when it will reach me. Someone from Colonial called after I took their online survey and told me that their account manager is one of the best and actively working with the driver. The account manager never returns my call or emails.
Either the sales team and the delivery team doesn't talk to each other on how they operate or else? Either ways, this is the most horrible moving experience I have ever had. I just hope I get my stuff soon. I'm going to keep calling them up this week. I'll update the review after that. So choose Colonial Van lines if you want to add more to the already stressful move.

I hired Colonial Van Lines to move my household belongings from Massachusetts to Florida. Without my knowledge, Colonial hired Traditional Van Lines for my pickup & delivery. In the process, they "lost" my valuable 8'x11' Persian rug, and both Colonial & Traditional have done nothing to find it. Don't use either company!

We had scheduled to move cross country 30 days in advance. Colonial Van Lines gave us a two day window for the move. I called the day before to find out which day was most convenient for them. I was told that they didn’t have a driver and didn’t know when they would! The house was entirely packed up! This move was a total disaster. I’m still trying to resolve this issue.

Colonial has given us financial compensation to make up for the unsatisfactory events which happened on our move.
Original Review: Sept. 5, 2018
I think I have some similar complaints as most people with a bad moving experience except I think it is still good to share our particular experience because we have had such a difficult time and continue to with Colonial Van Lines and their subcontractor West Coast Relocation. Despite all of the research we had done beforehand, we thought we had made a sound decision, so we're not prepared at all for the continual customer service and logistical problems that arose. One of the biggest concerns we had is they sent a confidentiality agreement to me to get the refund for the amount I was overcharged at delivery. The agreement had I signed, would not have allowed me to submit any reviews or further complaints regarding my experience with their services, many of which you can read about below.
Based on the numerous issues I have had during my cross-country move, it is hard not to think I was overcharged so that I would have to sign a confidentiality agreement to silence me from being able to tell you all the things that went wrong with my move. Also, please be aware we have had to submit claims for damages and lost items that have not been resolved to date.
Here is a list of things that went wrong: Charged more than invoiced. Provided a Confidentiality Agreement that must be signed to receive a refund of overpayment that would not allow for further recourse. Items held hostage unless I paid what they asked for. Pickup date was moved twice. Delivery took four weeks, 9-days past the delivery window, during which time the account manager could not provide information about where our belongings were or provide an estimated delivery date for over 2 weeks after the pick-up.
Movers broke furniture when loading. Items were lost, and I was told “they were looking for them,” which is difficult to understand when we were told our belongings were not taken off the truck they were picked up on. Items wrapped by Colonial were damaged in transport and some items were not wrapped properly or at all. Nothing packed by us were damaged. Account manager never met any of the “8-step relocation process” they outline. If we had not emailed or called to stay on top of the situation, I wonder if we would have received our belongings at all. Account manager provided conflicting information multiple times, which decreased our confidence significantly. Account manager was difficult get a hold of and rarely responded to messages. The supervisor (account manager’s boss) never responded after multiple messages.
Here are details of what happened… After paying the deposit nothing went right. The sales agent was very responsive, answered all questions, and made us feel that Colonial would be the best fit for us. It turns out the sales agent was just a great salesperson. Once we paid the deposit, we were handed over to the account manager and nothing went right. The original terms were a pickup window of July 7th/8th and a delivery window of July 18th through 27th.
The pickup date changed twice. When we paid the deposit, the pickup date was set for a two-day window of July 7th/8th. About a week before the pickup date, we were informed that the pickup window has been moved to the 9th/10th. Then on July 5th we were informed that the move date was moved back to July 8th. Having to adjust on short notice was nerve-racking but we made it work and we were ready for the pickup. Colonial does not have any trucks. They are a sales/marketing group that arranges sub-contractors. We were told that all the sub-contractors are “A-rated” but later I found out that there is no rating system for movers. The subcontractor which picked up our belongings was West Coast Relocation.
The day before the move, the driver confirmed that he will arrive between 9 and noon on July 8th (Sunday) He did not show until after noon. He called us in the morning saying that he was just minutes away but was waiting for his boss to call with the location of the scale. I would think that a professional mover would have researched the closest scale in advance and not start looking for it once they arrive. Also, we had no way of contacting Colonial during the pick-up to find out what was going on with the pick-up. The Account Manager assured us she would call the day off to make sure everything went well and did not.
The movers were very rushed to get the job done and scuffed walls and scratched floors. They broke one of two bookshelves before it even got on the truck. We expect efficiency but more importantly, care for our belongings. It was pre-arranged that they would package bookshelves, dining table, mattress (Tempurpedic to be stored flat per manufacturer instructions), desks, TV, etc. We paid extra for the proper boxes for our TV and desk tops. Our expectation was that they would use specialty boxes but instead they used moving blankets, cut cardboard and plastic wrap. We were very disappointed in the way things looked as they were being loaded into the truck, but they ensured us that everything was being well protected. In the end, we should have packed everything ourselves and not trusted them with boxing and wrapping.
The inventory documentation was essentially illegible. Luckily, we had inventoried all the boxes and had our record sheet, so we could account for all our boxes. I suggest anyone moving to make their own inventory sheet including any items which the movers will package and stay with the person who is creating the inventory list so that you don’t struggle with trying to figure out if anything is missing. We didn’t want to get in the mover’s way, but we should have stayed on top of them to ensure a legible and accurate list. This was our first cross country move and we expected based on the sales person’s overview of services, the movers would have done an accurate inventory. The movers were sticking number stickers on items, but as we found out later did not match up to anything.
The account manager was supposed to follow up on the day of the pickup but since it was a Sunday she said she will follow-up on Monday. We did not hear from her until Wednesday after leaving multiple messages. We told her about the issues we had with the pickup and that we expect smoother and better communication moving forward but this did not happen, and their customer service was poor.
Our account manager didn’t know where our truck was at any time. As we waited for delivery, we would ask our account manager for the location of our belongings, but she would not tell us where our items were. The answer we would get was a delivery date. Originally, we were told the items should arrive early in the delivery window but as the dates got closer the delivery date kept getting further and further out. Finally, when it was just days before the end of the delivery window, the account manager said that the truck had some mechanical issues and is in the “agent’s” warehouse in California. I calculated that they would not make it within the delivery window. I was told that we would get $30 off for each day past the delivery window which doesn’t make up for the bad customer service and not having my belongings for a month.
Also, we were told she did not know where the truck was, when in fact it was in CA the whole 3 weeks that we were waiting for updates. It is hard not to think we were being misdirected to cover up for either her lack of follow-up, their inability to work with their own subcontractor (we were told at one point the account manager could not reach the subcontractor for information) and/or being misdirected to cover the fact Colonial has not properly vetted their subcontractors.
The account manager’s lack of attention to detail was staggering. Not only could she not tell us where the truck was she kept telling us the close of the delivery window is the 29th. She never moved the window back after moving the pickup back to the original window. I had to argue with her over and over about this. Towards the end a different supervisor contacted us and agreed the 27th is the close of the window. This supervisor was not the original supervisor I was given the contact information for but was someone who contacted us after we left feedback about our experience in a survey we received to rate our experience at pick-up.
When things were going nowhere with the account manager, I was able to get her supervisor’s extension. I called and left four messages over a few days and never got a response. The supervisor which we did connect with called us after we completed a survey where we outlined all the issues we had to that point which was before we even got our belongings. This new supervisor was nice on the first call but fell off after that and almost never responded again. She promised that the delivery window was moved back to the 27th and the “agent” (subcontractor) has been notified and a discount of $30 per day will be taken off.
As we waited we were given a final invoice based on the original estimate because the document from the subcontractor showing the final weight was illegible. When the truck finally arrived on August 5th, 9 days past the delivery window, we were supposed to pay the total, equal to the original estimate, minus $270 for 9 days late. However, the driver did not have any information on this. Since it was a Sunday, there were no people at the Colonial office answering and could not verify the discounts. The driver threatened to leave if I did not pay and I was forced to pay more than what was promised by Colonial to get my belongings. When I contacted Colonial the next day, they told us we would get a refund.
The refund was to be shared between Colonial and West Coast Relocations. To this day, we have not received any refund from either one. Colonial is requiring us to sign a “Full and Final Settlement Agreement, Release of Liability, And Confidentiality Agreement” which states that all activities between Colonial and West Coast Relocation is complete and we would not file any claims, complaints, or grievances against them and all communications, documents, and correspondence would become confidential. We do not agree to this as we should not have to sign anything to receive the compensation which is promised to us and since we have outstanding claims for damages and lost items.
When the truck finally arrived, we were horrified by how the items were not loaded as promised. We saw the mattress standing on end and dirty, and the legs of the dining table (family heirloom) unprotected and shoved on top and against the side. When the items were unloaded we found the legs of the table scratched and top chipped. Desks were scratched, and bookcases dented or destroyed. Thankfully the TV seems to have been unscathed which was a miracle. On a happy note, the things which we packed were undamaged.
Colonial lost items. At the end, we were missing a box spring, large hamper full of miscellaneous items, step ladder, and side table. These are all items we trusted them to package and get to us safe. All boxes we packaged are accounted for, probably because we used a bright yellow duct-tape to number each box. When we followed up with Colonial to find the lost items they told us they are following up with the “agent” and will get back to us. I asked them to outline what Colonial and the “agent” was doing to find out items, and they did not have any answer except that they contacted the “agent.” We have pictures of our table taped to the ceiling of the truck in some sort of suspension, not wrapped in any protective blankets. In my opinion they should be fully responsible for the damaged items considering they wrapped them.
In the end we filed a claim for the missing and damaged items. They have up to 120 days to complete the claim. We have no confidence that they will compensate anything for the items lost and damaged since the process goes through Colonial. In addition, we trusted they would have some quality assurance in place, but poorly wrapped and not wrapped items and items and their poor inventory process has left us with damaged and lost heirlooms. To top it off, not one person we talked to seemed to care at all about our items as if they were just moving.
Updated on 10/17/2018: Colonial contacted me two months after my items arrived to "resolve" the issues we had. These issues included late delivery, overcharging, attempt to silence with an NDA, broken items, lost items, unresponsive staff, etc. It took a month, nine days past the delivery window, to have my items delivered. After discussing this with the staff member who contacted me, she said she will review it with her boss and get back to me. The offer was a few hundred dollars and to update my review to show that all issues were resolved.
I didn't feel comfortable with the terms of the "resolution" and therefore turned it down. It wasn't just about the money. Although there probably is a price which they could pay to make me feel better about the heirlooms which were lost or damaged, they don't seem to be doing anything to improve themselves to make sure these things don't keep happening. The whole industry of movers is already skewed in their favor with little to nothing in terms of recourse for the customer. Once your items are on the truck you are at their mercy to pay what they demand. The moving companies have no liability to keep your items safe or accounted for. The liability is placed on the customer by purchasing additional insurance or the default insurance based on pennies to the pound.
In all our discussions, Colonial could not tell me how they will try to locate my lost items. I was forced to enter a claim which they can take up to 120 days to process. Colonial had a great opportunity to win my confidence back but they just want to throw money at me. Unfortunately, the money they offer doesn't come close to resolving my issues. I feel that in any other industry, this type of negligence wouldn't be resolved in a refund for a fraction of the total paid. They could be an industry leader with policies which could change the industry but instead, they stay with the norm and take no responsibility or liability for their actions.
Hi Dean, we are aware of the issues that took place during your move and thank you for allowing us the opportunity to come to a resolution with you on your outstanding issues. If you need any more assistance feel free to reach out to me personally, my name is Stephany and I can be reached directly at (954) 958-2223.

The Colonial Van Lines' moving coordinator was on top of everything, letting me know when and what was gonna happen. The movers showed up on time and everything was delivered as they said it would be. They were polite, personable, and business-like. Plus, there was no breakage. They handled the move well and it was a good move. I would recommend Colonial Van Lines.

We rented an apartment in Florida for a year to see if that's what we wanna do. We live in Pennsylvania, so we go back and forth, and it's about 840 miles. My daughter has a relationship with Colonial Van Lines and so we used them. Our moving coordinator was very helpful. She got the movers here when we wanted them, and we unpacked when we were supposed to. All of my things also arrived in perfect condition. It took a little bit of extra communication on our part to get everything to work right but it did work, so that's what counts. The account manager was great and the crews, both the loading and the unloading ones, were extremely good. They were all very professional and friendly. They did a great job. If the situation arises that we don't want the apartment anymore, we would definitely contact Colonial Van Lines to move the furniture back up to Pennsylvania.
Bob,
Thank you for taking the time to share your long distance moving experience with our current and future customers. Customer satisfaction is our top priority and we are pleased to hear you were satisfied with the moving services you received. If you or someone you know is in need of a cross country mover, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

If you love yours belongs and your moving investment, I would recommend stay away from Colonial Van Lines. I had a very good and friendly approach while in touch with James **, a politely salesperson, but it drastically changed when they sent my moving to the account manager Roxanne **. Roxanne was very rude all the time, speaking fast and skipping words to distract from a full understanding of the agreements, but also when questioned acted very rudely; in addition, she did not answered emails, unless on her best interested, never to clarify doubts or take actions properly. In summary, the problems I have is listed below for your own judgment that you can deal with a company that will not provide support for the below:
1. The Statement “Bidding Fee” is not related to bidding or non-bidding price, they neither respected the 100% (bidding), or 110% (non-bidding). You fundamentally will pay per pound, just as simple as it. So, look for companies that go and quote in your location, avoid this SCAM. 2. Mrs. Dee ** called me several times, I recorded some that I attended in my computer, insistently enforcing an additional full-value insurance. I did it partially, and after I received information from **, I notified Mrs. ** among others in the Colonial that the Driver should verify the condition of my TVs before and after moving; otherwise, the insurance would be automatically voided.
Colonial crew and their third-party driver fully ignored it, I paid for a voided insurance. Mr. ** (Colonial) said that if TVs were broken, I would be compensating by pounds only, and the Moving Insurance said that it is voided. I may not call it a SCAM, but certainly you have to avoid this sort of incompetent company that allows you pay for something that will not be covered anyhow.
3. Aside of delays, after all my belongings were fully inside the truck, Onyxx Driver (Mr. **) used an intimidating way to say “I used some extra wrapping here and there, you have to pay me, not to the company once it is between you and me, 350 USD by cash or check”, we ending on 150 USD of pure extortion. I reported it to Colonial, and Colonial said that they are not responsible for their Drivers or partners, the driver said it was a Tip. How a tip would be during the loading, 150 USD for a tip? I questioned, and Mrs. ** was not very polite in say that Colonial is not responsible for drivers and partners. You can still hire Colonial; would you be willing to be a victim of extortion? No Colonial action on this? Would you put your family or yourself in risk based on this? Mr. ** (Onyxx Movers) practice extortion under Colonial brand, with no actions at all.
4. Among other problems, we had… a. Low Staff and unqualified, complaining all the time when delivery was upstairs. b. Onyxx had a crew that was throwing my sofa cushion downstairs, in a dirty floor. c. They were not able to delivery in total, they asked “using pressure” to help unload the truck. 9:30 pm, no one from Colonial were available to support complains. Mr. ** from Onyxx, said that if I would not help, they would need to charge more to return thereafter. d. Several boxes were not delivered upstairs, and just few labeled boxes in the right place, I asked them to move, and they asked for extra money to do it. Again, Colonial seems not responsible for partners. e. Mr. ** (Driver) said that I should avoid brokers like Colonial Van Lines, and this moving could be done with him for less than a half that I paid.
In summary, I would recommend to a friend to STAY AWAY from Colonial, worse moving experience I ever had, they trap your moving with high deposit, acting like a broker without previous notice, hire unqualified and main DISHONEST partners, offering no warranty on their service or partners acting under their brand. WOULD YOU RISK YOURSELF?
Hello Alex. We apologize for the experience you had and would like to reach out to you in order to resolve your issues. We take our reputation very seriously and this is not an example of the standards we have set here at Colonial Van Lines. We have located your information and our resolutions manager will be in contact with you soon. Thank you.

Hi Carol and Natasha, Let me tell you, this move was a TOTAL MESS (WORST EVER EXPERIENCE) I had. Bryan (the driver) is asking the calculation as per CFT (cubic feet) and not as per the 'difference between the pre-weigh and the post-weigh' numbers. First thing driver didn't weigh the truck before loading the goods, even after explaining him in the morning and he made me talk with his boss - Lucas, Tony (not sure where was he from) mentioned if you want to go via pre weight (light truck) and post weight (heavy truck), weight station will charge $6-$7 more per pound instead of 0.68 cents. On the top of it I have to pay $299 for gas, which was not even in the agreement between me and Colonial Van Lines.
At the end of the day, as a customer I have been totally FOOLED, wherein I have paid $4.76 per cubic feet (5,574 * 0.68 = $3,912.73 divided by 822 (total cubic ft)) where this estimate (given by me) was an absolutely on a higher side v/s the actual estimate which would be even lesser than 4,000 pounds (e.g. the actual boxes numbers were around 50 boxes, and the estimate was 90 boxes, so I should pay only for the reduced weight). So the Grand total finally is $3,632.68 (which includes $3,332.8 (as per 700 cubic feet) + $299.88 (Gas)), as mentioned in 'Interstate bill of landing contract and Order for service' - as attached. I am now extremely worried about all my household items as the way he has left from the house with all the heated arguments, seems like my household items will never reach to Texas and it's customer who will always suffer to pay more than what the actual amount is as per the weight.
For more escalations: 1. Because of the aggressive nature, he forcefully made me sign 'Post contract services order form' today after the load, which after real heated arguments we fortunately got back the form. 2. Bryan (driver) and his boss (Lucas and Tony from Home Van Lines company), all were threatening us that if you don't sign right now or agree with the terms (grand total) , "We are going to off-load all the items and then you figure out all the things with Colonial Van Lines". He also mentioned, "now while delivering all these items you will be charged will all sorts of expenses as mentioned in Post contract services order form" today after the load document.
3. I mentioned 100 times to the driver (Bryan), Lucas and Tony, to mention in writing about the deposit which I have already paid - $1,675.76 in the forms I signed, but they have not agreed to mention this amount anywhere, instead threatened us all the times to off-load all the home items back and figuring out with Colonial Van Lines. GUYS, please help me as a genuine customer please come out of this whole mess and ONLY CHARGE THAT AMOUNT, which is genuine and not a legitimate amount.
Maybe because it was a Sunday, I tried reaching out to Carol, Natasha and Chris and unfortunately nobody was available to help me as a customer, come out of this mess, in spite of repeated voice messages. Extremely frustrated and saddened on this whole process. I want to make sure that my goods reach on time (08/21/2018 - 09/05/2018) and yes NOBODY (TRUCK) has even come here to pick up my CAR, nor I got a call from the driver anytime since last couple of days!
Updated on 09/11/2018: Delivery issue: 2nd window (Sept 7th - Sept 9th 2018) - not delivered. 3rd window (Sept 10th - Sept 11th 2018) - not delivered. 4th window (Sept 15th - Sept 16th 2018 - coming weekend) - not sure whether it will be delivered or otherwise. Honestly, as a customer - I don't know what to do, have escalated my concern in emails, telephonic conversations, text messages, however I don't know whether my home goods really exists or not. Escalated the delayed delivery to the Home Van Lines folks (Lucas and Tony), however no actions.
The current driver (Robert), seems like working for a local Texas company (3rd party), is not a Home Van Lines person / Driver. He is just under the impression that he will off-load all the goods at the address (McKinney, Tx) and get done with it. Who is going to dismantle (e.g. Bed frames / Other items)? Carol from Colonial Van Lines is aware about the contract between Mihir ** and Colonial Van Lines, that the process of dismantlement is involved in my contract as well.
Refund issue: I really appreciate Teheria (Director, from Colonial Van Lines) who worked with me diligently to process the 'initial refund' ($780) with the agreement which I had to sign that, I will 'delete all my reviews on Consumer Affairs' and I signed that 'initial agreement' with an crystal clear assumption that 'the action will be taken once the goods are delivered on time and no items is misplaced, however refer to the delivery issue as above.
A week before I got a call from a lady from Colonial Van Lines - Kim / Krislin (sorry, not sure of the name), saying that my 'revised refund' is going to be $598 ($182 less than the 'initial refund') which I have not yet signed (obviously since my goods are not yet delivered), so my question to the Colonial Van Lines management is 'who is going to compensate customer about the expenses he is spending (e.g. by eating outside / Buying goods to suffice the kitchenware items, which are supposed to be delivered via the truck back on Sept 5th, 2018???). When asked this question to this lady Kim / Krislin, she mentioned - "I am only going to talk about the refund, and not the delivery." So you are just concerned about the money (how much less you can refund to the customer) and are not concerned about your quality of service??? That's ridiculous!!!
Ultimately as a customer, I am exactly at the same position which I was from Aug 21st (1st delivery window), where I am still without my household goods, not sure about what is the condition of those goods and even after paying each and every penny (full money for this kind of service), spending on extra expenses which was not supposed to be done had the truck come on time, where I am just escalating, escalating and escalating, still no answers / Actions except "I apologies and period", and an insane refund without giving a guarantee on when the goods will be delivered. That is all that I wanted to say and I have kept of saying since a good long time now, let's see where this actions takes me or my goods to?
Hello!
We apologize for the experience you had and want to resolve all of your issues as we take our reputation very seriously. I have notified our upper management team of your concerns and someone will be in touch with you soon.

I don’t know how I would express my disappointment about Colonial Van Lines' moving service. I have moved from Buena Park CA to Dallas/Richardson TX recently, and my stuff were picked up on 6/14. When the pickup trucker came for pickup, they asked me additional cost for satellite truck because it's not allowed 53' full truck in the area. But it was reasonable and I accepted the request. I initially contacted the customer care rep at Colonial Val Lines, around on the end of June (6/29 or 6/30) to arrange for the delivery, and the rep said you would need 15 days delivery window. Since I had to leave for a business travel at that time, I explained my situation and asked if it’s possible to shorten the window to make delivery between 7/14-7/15, and she said she would try but it’s not guaranteed for that short window. Anyways, I arranged the delivery window starting from 7/14.
I got called from their trucker or mover’s dispatch around 7/11, and he asked me the delivery window again. I told it should be 7/14-7/15 because of my business travel, and he said that’s too short to arrange because their minimum delivery window should be 6 days. I told him it’s ok to keep the current delivery window as 7/14-7/19 because I could ask one of my colleague to receive the delivery for me. I got noticed the delivery wouldn’t be made during my request window around 7/12 once I called to their customer care. My packages were not even departed from CA at that time, and they were planned to departing CA during the weekend (7/14~).
I was in Pennsylvania at the time and came back to Dallas TX during the weekend just for my initial delivery plan, and had to go back to Pennsylvania again on 7/16, and tried to make another delivery appointment for the following weekend (7/21-7/22). It was ok by then because I already took the risk of miss delivery with my initial delivery request. But, when I checked back with their customer service on 7/16 and heard my packages were still not departed CA, my disappointment begun. She said she would update me once it’s planned to move my packages, and there’s no any update until I called back to them on 7/19 or 7/20. She said although my packages were still in CA, they would be departed at least during the weekend (7/21-7/22) because the last day of my 15 days window will be 7/28.
I again came back from my business travel on 7/20 to prepare to receive my packages on the following weekdays or weekend. I never doubt it because the last day of delivery window will be anyway 7/28. When I checked with them on 7/25 (it was pretty hard to reach out to them), my packages were still in AZ and their mover was trying to deliver another customer’s stuff and there’s no even plan to depart AZ at that time until they completed another customer’s delivery. She also said they would compensate for the dates over the delivery window, but I don’t know how they could compensate for the mess that they caused on my packages. I had spent frequent flight cost to return back from my business travel, and I was having to staying at hotel even though my apt lease has been started from 7/14 just because they had not yet to bring my stuffs here to Dallas.
Finally, my packages were delivered on 8/11, after 44 days from my initial delivery request, with some damages or missing stuff (end table, fan, lamp, box springs were damaged, and dining table's legs were missing). They have deducted $30/day compensation for the delay for 13 days when I had to spend more than $2,000 additional money for the delay. The worst things are the salesperson as well as the customer care agent could not be even reached out from the end of July until my packages were delivered. I'm now processing for the damage claim, and I do not even know how long this will be taken or if it will be processed.
Hello, we apologize for your experience and would like the opportunity to address this. We take great pride in our high level of service and this situation as described is unacceptable and not the standard we would like to be set. Our resolutions manager has been notified of your concerns and will be in touch with you soon.

Even though they asked what furniture I had and sent someone out to look at all of my furniture, the subcontracted movers did not come with enough moving blankets for all the furniture and then charged me for the boxes they use to wrap furniture. They will still not protect all of your furniture leading to damage. My dining room chairs were not wrapped or some shelving units. I was quoted $3825 for the move which became $4819.
YOU MUST approve anything they may overcharge you because the company they sub the job out to will not begin moving your items until you sign saying you approve ALL charges. Then they will underpack boxes so they have to use move boxes. I was quoted the need for 16 boxes, they ended up using 53. Two months of back and forth emails never solved the problems and they just ignore my emails at that point. They will switch customer representatives on you so you have to start the process of your claim all over.
Hello Will, we sincerely apologize for the experience you had and would like the opportunity to address and make things right. I have notified our resolutions specialist of your concerns and she will be reaching out to you within 24 hours with hopes of resolving your issues.

I've been moving straight through from the city to Florida. I got lots of tools, hardware and other things that I brought up myself in my pick-up. But the last trips up and down, I couldn't do it. I had a couple of pieces with one I'm keeping and one I'm cutting down because it was too big. So I looked at Colonial's reviews and called in for an estimate. The guy said he was based on Florida which was where I was moving. Most of the stuff were all boxed and ready to. I just had a couple of pieces with one I'm keeping and one I'm cutting down because it's too big.
Colonial Van Lines was on top of everything, but maybe too much to a point that I've been getting calls when they got something. Also, the driver would call saying what he got. Nevertheless, they were there on time in delivery. They came on Friday and delivered on Monday. I had to race to get down there. They put my stuff in the garage and offered to bring them inside. It wasn't necessary but they brought some stuff inside. I was happy with the driver and the guys.

After checking a couple of places, we decided to go with Colonial Van Lines. They came up with the preliminary estimate, sent a fellow out to look at the inventory and then revised the original estimate. They modified that again when they weighed the truck. However, there were several different pass-offs of personnel that we dealt with during the whole process. We went to four people handling the account, so I wish Colonial didn't swap guys out so often and they kept the same person with the same account. Other than that, they did well in assisting me and we were very pleased with it.

While we all would have liked things to have gone more smoothly, I appreciate the ultimate response from Colonial Van Lines. Management heard my concerns, apologized for my inconvenience and made a good faith effort. In any business, sometimes things go sideways . . . sometimes what is important is being treated fairly in the end. I consider this matter resolved.

I deposited (a significant sum) a month ago with Colonial to move my relatively small load across country. I did not seek other quotes and did not shop around. Agent told me that a truck was assigned if I deposited by the end of that day so I rushed. My pick up window was between August 6th to the 8th and as of today, the 15th it does not seem as if Colonial is making any attempt to ship our belongings. On the 9th, I was told that I would receive compensation against my final bill for each day after the original pick up window, but it seems as if they are counting on my cancelling my contract in order to get my deposit back. I just want our things to be moved so my family can start the school year. At this point I do not trust Colonial to either move our things or follow through on the credit that they committed to on the 9th.
Over the last two weeks, I've spoken to a number of kind people. I don't think the individuals are necessarily incompetent, but it is clear that Colonial doesn't have the resources to follow through on their agreement. Today I received a message to call them back ASAP. When I returned the call, an agent looked my account and said there was a "technical issue" and they would have to call me back. I have learned that "technical issue" is a phrase they use when they look and see that there is bad news they don't want to share at the time. No one returned my call. When I called late in the day, the customer service rep informed me that they were no longer looking for a driver since the extended window had passed... That is unless I asked them to continue to look for a driver.
This has been an extraordinary bizarre experience and it is shocking to me that a business can operate like this. I rate them one star in every category because they have not even picked up my belongings which they committed to move with no idea of when they might pick them up. The review is nothing personal, I simply regret wasting so much time and money with Colonial and posting a review is the only thing I know left to do to get them to follow through with my move.

We recently moved from CT to TN. After much online research we chose Colonial Van Lines, Tarmac FL. I must say that Michelle, Paul and Carol were in constant contact. The actual mover was A1 movers, Scott is the owner driver. Meticulous, hardworking and punctual. His crews were the same way. Nothing broken, nothing missing. Awesome. Colonial also arranged custom crating for 8 taxidermy mounts, quality work (custom movers, Ohio). And instead of the horror stories of overcharges, our final bill was 750.00$ less than the estimate. If you hire Colonial ask for Michele ** and try to arrange for A1. 5 stars.

I was moving for over a 1,000 miles away and went with Colonial because of their price. Their phone reps helped out a lot and the main person in charge of packing and moving was really good. But the other ones were really inexperienced. I needed to keep an eye on everything single one of the packers, 'cause they packed things that I didn't want packed. And it took them about nine hours to finish things up. Overall, they did a good job but they could have been faster.

I was moving my daughter's stuff and of the three moving companies that I've called, Colonial Van Lines was the least expensive. I had some time frames that we were trying to get through and I was a little frustrated at the beginning. The upfront communication with the broker could have been a little bit better. I had to track them down a bit but in the end, they called me back. Then, we've already packed almost everything and they had a few things to take apart and pack. They were supposed to get there at 8:00 but they didn't get there until 5:00. And so, we got all packed up three and a half hours later. Nevertheless, everyone did a good job and everything arrived in good shape when they said it would. The movers were friendly and everything worked out in the end. I was satisfied with Colonial Van Lines.
Brian, we appreciate your feedback and apologize for the frustration at the beginning of your move. Luckily we were able to get it all worked out and in the end you were satisfied :) If you have any more concerns please feel free to get back in contact with us.

We needed to move during the summer and it was an out of time notice and Colonial Van Lines could do the time that we needed to move by. I called and explained when we had to move and what we had. They then sent an estimate, which seemed fine. We booked and they gave us a window. Based on that, we moved. They came one day and moved in the next day. The coordinator was great, very organized, accurate and good. The movers were really good with one caveat. We had a mirror and the stand from it was forgotten to be taken out so we are missing that. We mentioned it, but I think it’s probably gone now.

When I first got the call from the lady that helped set up the move I thought this was going to be a pleasant experience but this wasn't true. After hanging up with her I had problems getting her to return calls or emails and the only emails that I received from her seemed to be ones that were time sequence emails that were programmed in to send out. We were initially told that a Colonial van would show up to move us from Las Vegas to Northern Utah on a Monday or Tuesday but most likely on the Monday. I was in Utah before the move and the Friday before I headed back to Las Vegas and I was in Southern Utah when I finally received a phone call from some other company saying that they would meet up with me at 8 AM on Tuesday. I was a little worried why somebody else was calling me because of all of the scams especially in the Vegas area.
I called Colonial and wasn't able to get in touch with the agent but the operator said she would leave them a message but she could see that the move had been contracted out since they didn't have a truck in the area. They never told me that they contracted out to local movers until this call and this is where the nightmare really took off. That Tuesday I was up early to head to the house to meet the movers and instead of showing up at 8 AM like they said they showed up around 11 AM. I immediately asked the supervisor where the others were as it was only him and his teenage son. This house that we moved into took four guys a whole day to move out of our previous place and move it over so I knew for two people it was going to be a workout even though I had most of the boxes and furniture all located in the garage, dining room and living room which was a straight shot out through the garage door.
The agent did call me and asked how it was going and I told him that only two showed up and he told me that it was supposed to be four guys loading and one supervisor to do inventory paperwork and not just the guy and his son. I was told that this would be resolved immediately which took almost four hours before anybody else showed up. In the process I watched this guy and his son bringing my washer and dryer units down the stairs on a dolly without straps securing the units to the dolly. I was dumbfounded and angry seeing this as the units were bouncing on the dolly as they were bringing it down unstrapped and unprotected. I also watched the teenage son sliding boxes down the stairs. When two more guys showed up I watched one guy stand our sofa sleeper on its side and then it fell over onto a recliner. It wasn't until almost 8 PM that they finally got everything loaded up and everybody was heading out.
I went through the place before they left and picked up numerous discarded tape rolls that they used to tape furniture pads with. Using tape was ok but then just throwing them on the floor just made more work for me to pick up. The last movers used wide shrink wrap instead of tape and didn't discard the used rolls on the floors. This move took them more time to load than it took another company to load and unload when we moved into the place and the one local moving company we had used before had a lot harder move as it was a condo unit that they had to walk through down a winding sidewalk to the truck and then when unloading a lot of stuff they had to carry up the stairs. The next day they showed up in Utah and it was the same main guy and one guy that showed up at 3 PM. While unloading they dropped boxes down on the floor which caused boxes to split open.
Boxes that they brought in on the dolly were not strapped or securely held while bringing them upright so the boxes caved in as they had very light boxes on the bottom and heavy boxes on top. A lot of the boxes were brand new and were very well packed luckily as by the time they were done the boxes looked like they had been through a battle scene of destruction. We had wardrobe boxes that had been through multiple moves and still almost looked brand new before they loaded and unloaded them as we had to throw them away as they tore them up by ramming the dolly into them and slicing up the bottoms. The main guy brought a solid wood microwave cart off of the truck and I watched him run it right into the curb and then he tipped it up to check the area for damage. I was looking through the doorway and saw him move the mat away from the caster and you could tell the caster was broken off.
He tried to hide it but you could tell it was broken. Then later when bring in some furniture this guy had the never to say that when you have big heavy furniture you better expect having damaged furniture or scuffed up walls during the move. This had to be the most stressful move my wife and I have ever done and usually we get a U-Haul and have a local team load but we didn't want to do this. We didn't do this because of the drive we would have to do with a 26' truck and a large trailer and then still have to figure out how to get another vehicle to Utah. Between all of the stress, watching them damage our property, listening to rude comments by the one person and just the unprofessional attitude of the guys.

My friend and I were both moving out to Athens, Georgia at the same time. She had worked with Colonial Van Lines and she said that everybody seemed to be very professional there, so I chose them. Their moving coordinator was very responsive, professional, and polite. Even when I pushed back and it was not my area of expertise, she explained situations through so that I understood that she really knew what she was talking about and that I should follow her advice.
Also, there was a manager named Natalie who assisted me in the beginning. She took my order and helped me put together an estimate of everything. When it was getting to the time of the move, that was handed over to somebody else. However, my movers came on the 4th of July and Colonial's offices were closed. I ended up having some worries and problems. One point of dissatisfaction was I was not made aware, or I didn't see a line in all the paperwork that I signed that said, that the work could be subcontracted out. I was taken aback that the movers that came weren't actually with Colonial Van Lines, so it was a little discouraging to me because I thought that there was a good opportunity for Colonial to lose control of the situation if they are subcontracting out the work.
The guy that came was very nice and very professional, but he wanted cash up front and he said that it was to pay his movers. I was taken aback again because it was the 4th of July and the banks were closed. I didn't know if I was getting scammed or if that was okay. Nobody had told me that that might happen. I've spoken to him two times before and he never told me that he would like to have some cash in advance to pay for his moving crew. He wanted $400, so I ran around to three different ATMs to try to get enough. A fraud alert was triggered on my debit card because of all of those activities and that pissed me off.
I also had a point of confusion because I asked the driver how the weight was calculated. He said that before he came here, the van was empty and he had it weighed, but before they even started putting things in the truck, I looked inside the van and it was already a third full with some of the other stuff. I wondered why he told me that the van was empty. I was worried that I might be getting doubled ditched or that he was charging from the weight of the other person's move as well. He showed me the sheet that showed the weight, but I couldn't figure out how the time was calculated either when the weighing was done. That was a little worrisome because the move was expensive.
But all in all, he did a very good job. Everything was very well wrapped, although there was only one thing broken. It was a bird bath that they had put on the floor without any padding and it broke in half. It was not a big deal with the worth of my time to file a claim and given that I got reimbursed by the pound, I probably would have gotten $5 back at the most. Given everything else, smooth without incident, the move was good.
I would recommend Colonial Van Lines, but it really comes down to the luck of the draw in what actual moving company is contracted with. I would have been happier if the work hadn't been subcontracted out. To me, that is a wildcard and Colonial has a lot of opportunities to lose a lot of control there. I went with the big name because I thought that they're professionals and that they do this all the time. I also thought they have control over the whole things. Still, once they start sub-contracting out, it gets to be an issue for me. If somebody shows up to my friends' door and they're not wearing Colonial Van Lines shirt and a baseball cap, that would prevent me from recommending. Nevertheless, the overall set up went very well.
At Colonial Van Lines, we pride ourselves on customer satisfaction. We are pleased to know that you had a great time moving with us. Thank you for sharing your experience!

I did my research on this company before I decided to go with them. Although they have been in business for 53 years do not let that fool you!! I was guaranteed that I would have an 18 wheeler pick up my belongings. They showed up in 3 Penske trucks. That should of been a RED FLAG for me. I did ask why they did not bring a big truck and they stated that they we taking my thing to the warehouse where it will be kept until the move. After they weighed my things I had 27,000 pounds of furniture. Now wouldn't that tell you that a 18 wheeler would make more sense? So in short moving day came and I could not wait to get my things in my new house. I got a call at 11:00 am to let me know my things would not be making it and they were not sure when it would be arriving. I took a week off of work to move into my new house only to now be told I would not be getting my things.
I kept calling Colonial Van Lines to find out where my things were and I finally got an answer of my things would be there in a week! In a week? It had now been 45 days so now wait another week? WOW!! So my things were finally on the way then I get a call that the movers had been in a wreck and needed to bring my half of my things so they could go back and get the rest with another PENSKE TRUCK!!! WHAT? AND WANTED ME TO PAY THEM BEFORE I GOT MY THINGS!! WHAT??!! Well that did not happen and now they are here wanting to unload. I told them I wanted ALL of my things before they got payment. They started to unload one of the trucks and what a SHOCK to see my stuff literally thrown in the back of this truck. As they unloaded there was not a piece of my FINE FURNITURE that was not damaged. Not a picture or mirror not broken, family photo albums destroyed. Antique furniture destroyed. Every box damaged.
My furniture has mildew because it had been wet, my solid oak furniture ruined because my stuff was not kept in a climate controlled warehouse like they had stated. THEY THREW MY STUFF WHEREVER AND HOWEVER THEY WANTED TO... OMG!! My life vanished in front of me. I contacted the crooks over at Colonial Van lines and they state that they will not pay for anything because I did not pay the the additional 5K for the extended insurance. Now I entrusted this company and felt like I should not need this insurance because after all they have been in business for 53 years. WRONG!!! Do not use this company if you want your things back in the same condition that they picked it in. I have more pictures if anyone would like to see the damage.

Our move with Colonial was over a 3 month period. We worked with Drexell ** and Colette and had to change our date of move several times. During this time they were very helpful and understanding. Drexell went over items we had and approximate weights, so we wouldn't be surprised in the end. He was very helpful when the date came to move and the truck was there early on that day. All the time we worked on the move he was pleasant and stood behind what he said, and was a pleasure to work with.
The movers he set up for our move was SSM Movers. Tony and his crew were very friendly, and also very good handling our move. They were very hard workers and packed things neatly and secure. I couldn't ask for a better crew to handle our possessions. When they arrived they were there when they said they would be. If we were to move again, we would work with Drexell and also request Tony and crew with SSM Movers to handle the move. The only surprise we had was when we accepted our things it was heavier than we expected. Tony told me it was probably because the boxes were heavier than normal. The price was higher than we originally had quoted, but we had several more boxes than Colonial knew and it was our doing that the price was more and was acceptable to us. Very happy with the move from start to finish. Thank you.
Hi Charles, thank you for trusting Colonial with your move. I am pleased to hear that our team members were very flexible, communicative and were able to help you through the weight issues. Please recommend us to your friends and family!

Currently, my goods are 16 days past the delivery window. The company refuses to provide substantive updates on the goods, so I don't even know if they've left the origin state yet. They've twice told me my goods will be delivered "tomorrow" so I took off work and waited around home for them to not show up. After both times, I was later told that the goods hadn't left origin yet.
Now, they are requiring payment of the final bill without a scheduled delivery date - AND this final bill includes a laughable "settlement" offer for the breach of contract and delay, but is more than the final bill provided to me after the goods were picked up and weighed. They originally offered a settlement of $30/day delayed. I countered with a very reasonable request for reimbursement of my lodging costs during the delay. The final bill included a settlement of only $9/day, less than a third of the original offer. They are holding my goods hostage. Worst move of my life. They are dishonest and incompetent at best.

Well, let me just say first: I am glad this is over with. It’s been about 6 weeks and I can be more objective in my observations. I moved from Arkansas to New Mexico, with the household goods leaving AR on 6/9, and arriving in NM on 6/11. My initial contact with Colonial was April 2018. I spoke with Paul **. We went over the household inventory and I received an estimate for move with packing services. I was initially scheduled on a move window of 6/4 a 6/8. I came to NM to start work 5/14, with the plan to fly back to AR on 6/2 to be there for the packing and loading, pick up my family and leave for NM as soon as the truck was loaded. I was contacted by my moving coordinator Shari ** on 5/31, in that conversation she explicitly stated “your window has been narrowed to 6/5 or 6/6, and I will call you, for certain by 6/2 to confirm."
Well, no call by 6/2 which was a Sat, no call by Mon 6/4, so on Tue 6/5 I called Shari and was told the move would happen on Thu 6/7. Thus, no follow through on an important commitment, important because I have a young family and it is nearly impossible to make the 1100 mile journey in less than 2 days, and I had to return to work at my new job to follow through on my commitments in a timely manner. So, the movers arrive 6/7 at around 1:30 PM (already lost 1.5 days of critical time). It wasn’t even Colonial Van Lines, but a sub-contracted moving company, which was a family operation - Dad and teenage boys. I had fenced property in AR, which is accessed by crossing a concrete drive over a steel culvert, which I was uncomfortable with as to not collapse the driveway, which led to the first discussion about “if we go more than 75'" there are additional charges.
I proposed coming into a side gate and backing up to the house as an alternative to having to walk more than 75’. The answer was “no, we cannot bring the truck on the grass”. It happened to be a rocky top of a little ridge, practically a gravel drive, that just happened to have a few blades of grass growing through the rocks. So I relented and decided to take the risk on the driveway - to the peril of the new owners I guess. This family was nice enough, polite and courteous enough. So I just said get on with it. The first walk through the mover estimated the boxes, guessed the time and said “we will be done this evening”. Maybe late, but this evening. Well, I have been through 3 full-pack moves and in the previous 2 the workers scattered into the perimeter rooms, neatly packed and catalogued items in boxes, then did more boxing, until most of the packing was done, then began to load the truck.
Well, the teenage boys would pack a little here, move a little there, occasionally take something to the truck, pack a little more in another room, smoke a cigarette here, listen to a little music there, take a break whenever... well, you get the picture. Thu night 6/8 about 11:00 arrives, and the status: well, really just getting started. The mover boss/dad, Daniel, explains to me they will need about 4 hours on Fri to finish packing and loading. Well enough, other than I am now 2 days behind schedule. I was also advised that I would have to pay this sub-contractor directly by certified check, or by credit card, it he would have to take a picture of my card. I have never heard of paying a sub directly for services you contract wiling another company, not allowing anyone to photograph the front and back of your credit card.
Shari calls me on Fri 6/8 and I tell her it is basically going bad and I have concerns about being 2 days behind on my schedule, having to pay a sub directly and the picture of the credit card. He answer in a nutshell was “that’s the moving business for you”, in which my response was “well, your industry is definitely living up to its reputation today, isn’t it."
I respond later Friday to a customer service email rating my service so far from Colonial, which I detailed my grievances, and receive a quick call from a Customer Service “supervisor”, that really turned out to be nothing but a talking head that spoke using platitudes and alternative facts, such as “well, our position is we arrived within the original window”, seemingly trying to ignore the fact that “we” did not arrive, but a sub-contractor arrived, and arrived no less than one day later than Shari ** promised on 5/31/2018, causing me to make my schedule with the assumption the packing and loading would be done on 6/7 and I could leave for NM on 6/8.
Of course Shari’s commitments weren’t seen as valid commitments by this supervisor, but more like a “misunderstanding” that “we apologize” for. The supervisor lady (name I can’t remember) asked “what can we do to make this right?”, I responded “compensate my for 2 days lost wages, because being 2 days behind on the move schedule, which is no fault of my own, I will probably have to be off work 2 additional days”. She replied,”give me a number”, which I gave her (I suppose she must have thought I made about $50 per day) and she said "well, I tell you right now I can’t get anywhere near that number but (and yes, here it is) I will see what I can do”. Of course, that was the last I heard from her until a couple of days after the delivery.
Well, here we are on Friday afternoon June 8, and the family operation is still packing a little, smoking a little, hangin’ out a little, and about 5 pm the boss advises me “I think we are going to run out of boxes”. Okay, well to keep the momentum going I asked him how many and headed out to Home Depot - 15 miles away - and got some boxes for the movers. As the evening progressed it got into questions such as “are you taking this?”, “are you taking that”? “What is this”, “what is that?”, sighing, moaning etc... well, you get the picture. Then I was advised we would be over the box count and the estimated weight. Well, okay, I had read and heard that frequently happens.
Of course, I am invited to the weigh station for the weighing, which is nice, but I have no clue, and neither did they at the time, where the nearest weigh station is. Besides, that happens during the day, and will have to be Sat because we are already into Friday night. Literally, the packing and loading of the truck came to an end at about 11:45 PM Friday June 8, 2 full days behind “the window” (of course Colonial’s alternative facts put this time and date within “the window”). Oh, wait, are we done, yeah!!! No, wait a minute. There is “paperwork that must be filled out and you will have to sign”. “How Long does that take?” “Oh, about an hour. Can we come back in the morning and finish it, and then you can follow us to the weigh station”. I am like, in my mind, “** NO”... but I politely said “no, we need to finish tonight and I need to leave for NM in the morning”.
Jump to 1 am Sat 6/9, “Sayonara, adios, adieu my friends”. Finally they are out of here. Think it ends there, well no. I had to take an unanticipated day off from my new job and charge it to my vacation, this after being give the week of 6/4 - 6/8 as compensated time in my relocation package. The movers pretty much showed up in NM on 6/11 and dumped the load into my home. There was literally underwear packed with olive oil, soy sauce and spices. Tools with socks, alcohol with bibles, candy with curios. It couldn’t have been more comical. My new house, which has Saltillo tile, strangely had many cracks that weren’t there when I purchased the home. All of that circus Magen, and I have to give these guys credit. There was one, maybe 2 broken items and they were minor.
They were a nice immigrant family from St. Louis. Dad’s name was Daniel and the company was American Movers of St Louis, Mo. I was still put out about paying a sub-contractor directly, almost $10,000 by credit card they insisted on having a picture of. I have been a business executive spending company money for over 20 years, and one thing I can assure you: you never pay a sub-contractor directly. The contractor pays the sub, you pay the contractor. You have a contract with the contractor. What this tells me is this moving company didn’t trust Colonial for their payment. I was troubled that Colonial didn’t even explain to be there would be a subcontractor. I was assured by Paul ** early on it would be a Colonial truck and crew. Perhaps I should be happy it was not?
Then I’m told by the sub-contractor “oh, you should have called me directly. I bet you paid Colonial a lot of money to arrange this. I would have only charged you what you just paid”. So, I paid Colonial in excess of $3,000 to make a few phone calls, float a few platitudes and alternative facts past me (“BS” is what we used to call it) and then send some greenhorns out of St Louis to my home, all the while not knowing I would be dealing with this little outfit until they arrived in front of my house (more than 75’ from the door). I tell you what, if you don’t have to move, don’t move. If you are young, singles and have to move, commandeer your buddies, buy some pizza and cold beer, and get on wiling it. If you are young and a family person, get U-Haul or Penske or whatever.
If you have to hire a moving company DON’T CALL COLONIAL VAN LINES. THEY HAVEN’T EARNED YOUR BUSINESS AND THEY WILL NOT EARN YOUR TRUST. Scoundrels would be the best way to describe them. Oh yeah, that supervisor lady called me back a day or two after the move was over, for an ”customer satisfaction follow up”. All I said was all I want is my lost wages, where are we on that”. She says “oh, this sounds familiar... what I can tell you is, even if I get such a thing approved the maximum it will be is $50, but more likely to be around $35”. I told her to “quit insulting my intelligence, I am glad this is over, keep your $35 grease money and GOODBYE!!!”
Updated on 7/31/2018: I submitted a review the week of July 23, 2018, with a 2 star rating, regarding my experience with Colonial Van Lines and my move from Arkansas to New Mexico. They immediately responded and resolved my grievances to my satisfaction. I wasn’t aware that I could upgrade my original rating at the time of resolution. They handled the issue in a timely and highly professional manner, recognizing the problem and acted immediately to resolve it. I am upgrading my experience to a 4 star rating.
Hi Joseph.
Thank you for providing your feedback about your move and we apologize sincerely for the experience that you had. I have notified our resolutions manager of your concerns and she will be in contact with you soon in order to address them.

We moved from Minnesota to Ohio. It was about a 650-mile move and Colonial Van Lines asked a lot of questions so that I could give them the information they needed. They seemed to have a fair price and the quote they gave was accurate. Also, the people we talked to were very friendly and helpful. The stuff had gotten here before they estimated it would, which was a good thing. The movers were very efficient and professional with the delivery. They wanted to make sure that they were getting stuff to the right place and in the right room. It was to my understanding from my husband that they were the same way on the other end as far as picking stuff up when they were loading things. They made sure things were carefully wrapped and cushioned, so nothing broke.
Hi Lois! I'm so happy to hear that your move went well with no damages and even came earlier than expected :) Thank you so much for your positive feedback and please keep us in mind for the future. Good luck!

I was very satisfied with Colonial. We used them for a two-part move from one state to another. Both times the movers handled our belongings with care. Everything arrived on time and without a scratch. The customer service was great. The only complaint I had was regarding the second part of the move. One of the workers received numerous calls from a supervisor thus interrupting him from doing his job.
Thank you Margie for your feedback! We are happy that the first part of your move went great, and apologize for the distractions on the second half. Thank you for using our services and be sure to recommend us!

My daughter was moving from Michigan to New York for a new job. Colonial Van Lines gave us a specific date when they would deliver the goods, so we got their transport service. They were able to meet our time frame. But the only thing was that the day before they were to deliver the things, they tried to change the delivery date and I didn’t like that. So, I had to fight for them to deliver on the original date and they were able to do that. The interaction I had with the moving coordinator was very good. It was simple and easy, and the expectation set was very accurate. Likewise, the moving crew was very good. As a whole, we had a good experience with Colonial Van Lines and I’d recommend them. With their help, we were well-prepared throughout the move.
Hello Edward, thank you for your feedback and we are happy to hear that your move went great. We apologize for the date mixup and also happy that everything worked out.

Great experience. Jose & Wally were outstanding movers who were meticulous with my belongings. Nothing I've unpacked has been damaged and they were hard workers and nice guys too. They called and were able to pick up my home a day early and I worked with them on the delivery date which was 2 days later than expected. Still, overall it was a pleasure doing business with them.
Thank you Willis for your positive feedback. We are happy your delivery went well and the small issues were worked out. Please recommend us to your family and friends!

Colonial Van Lines gave me the cheapest quote. My moving coordinator was very good, helpful and friendly. And the pickup and delivery crew came a day early but they asked if they could come early. Everything was fine. And I’d recommend Colonial.
Hi LaDonna! I am thrilled we were able to make the entire moving experience for you seamless from beginning to end! Thank you again for trusting us with your move and enjoy your new home!

I hired Colonial Van Lines to move my family’s household goods and my husband’s car from Ohio To California. I have never regretted anything so much in my life. The salesman, Joseph, was very on top of things until I gave him my credit card number. Then he disappeared, never to be seen or heard from again. A second sales person, Paul, contacted me prior to pickup to confirm my inventory and decided that we needed to increase the estimated weight, which would require a second deposit. Once I paid that, he too disappeared. I was then given an account manager, Dona.
My first interaction with her involved her calling me on a Saturday night while I was out to dinner with family/saying farewell. She was calling to tell me that my husband’s car (which was being picked up the next day), would be delivered to CA on Tuesday and we needed to be there to meet it. We were leaving OH on Tuesday and driving to CA (therefore impossible). She also told me it was cash on delivery. I had to rush around and arrange to have someone (our real estate agent) meet the car, and I had to pay a finance charge in order to use a credit card. I was told by Colonial I would be reimbursed for this and have yet to see the money (our belongings were picked up June 17 and did not arrive until July 5. (I have a feeling I will never see that money.)
Side note on the car- the first time my husband tried to drive it after we moved he discovered the air conditioning was busted. We moved to the CA desert in the middle of the summer. I asked Colonial multiple times for a claim form. I have yet to receive one. Also, the guy was hours late picking up the car (no one called to tell me. I had to call dispatch multiple times. I will never get back the hundreds of hours I sat on hold throughout this move). He then told me he would deliver at 5pm. The 7pm. He showed up at 10:30pm. My real estate agent had to meet this guy in the middle of the night because he couldn’t tell time and arrive at a reasonable hour.
The actual move itself was so incredibly awful there may not be enough characters left in this review to include all of the horrible details. When I booked Colonial I asked if they had their own trucks. They said yes. They said summer is busy and there was a possibility of a truck not being available and they would need to enlist their network of agents. I should have run away then. My move was outsourced to an absolutely horrendous company called Best Price Moving and Storage in Chicago.
On June 17 two men showed up at my (extremely small) house to pick up our stuff. We literally have almost no furniture. The vast majority of our belongings were in boxes. First they had the wrong paperwork (it was the first, smaller estimate, not the updated one I paid extra money for). They told me they had to call their supervisor because they hadn’t allocated that much space in their truck for our stuff. Their truck was empty, thank goodness, so they had to just rearrange other pickups. Fine, whatever. Not my problem. These guys took so long (nearly 8 hours) to load a truck that my husband and I bought them food and ended up helping them because we wanted the whole thing to be finished already. Also, it was a Sunday, and it turns out Colonial doesn’t believe in working on Sundays. No one was there to help me when they showed up with the wrong paperwork. No one called me back or emailed me on Monday morning when they opened.
Fast forward- our stuff is supposed to arrive between 6/24 and 7/1. In fact, they changed our pickup date when they found out we weren’t leaving Ohio until the 19th (original delivery window was 6/20-6/30). I stressed to them from the start that we would begin our new jobs 7/2 and HAD to have our stuff by 7/1. No one could have prepared me for what happened.
After hours of being on hold, crying, begging, no one being able to tell me how much the final weight was, no one knowing where my stuff was or when it would come, being screamed at and called a liar by Mary (the dispatch person at Best Price Moving and Storage), filing a complaint online and then being contacted by one of the owners at Colonial (who screamed at me and threatened to give me a refund, drop our account, and leave our stuff in a warehouse in Chicago where BP Moving had left it and said they weren’t scheduling any trucks to CA), being told 50 different stories a day by the mostly incompetent employees of Colonial (the only person who truly helped us was Leon. No one else knows anything and will just put you on hold or promise you a call back, which you will never receive), etc.
I could go on and on. I have never been treated like that by a company ever. And, to top it off, the delivery window means nothing. Somewhere in that BS contract you sign it will say that the window means nothing. Stupidly I believed they would honor their word and deliver it on time. I couldn’t have been more wrong. In fact, when the truck finally did come (oh and tons of my stuff was broken and ruined), the driver told us that the person they delivered before us had been waiting two months for their stuff.
I heard so many excuses from Colonial- this is how it is in their industry (Nope. Not true. This is how it is when you hire an unethical company), new regulations passed in June were to blame (hmmm, didn’t seem to affect anyone else I knew who moved at the same time. Oh, and if new regulations are going to make it impossible to get my stuff on time then tell me so I can hire someone else), it’s their busiest time of year yet they had NO trucks going to CA?! All lies and excuses and BS. Day after day after day.
When the truck finally arrived they made us pay more than we owed, even though our weight was only 200 lbs above the ORIGINAL estimated weight. Luckily I knew in advance that they were going to try this since the driver gave me the wrong price over the phone AND told me he couldn’t take credit cards (said those had to be processed with the office. All of this a direct contradiction to what Colonial had told me when I booked my move).
After spending thousands on our move, including car repairs, buying things to help us survive while our entire home sat in a warehouse in Chicago, and replacing broken stuff, Colonial only reimbursed us just over $800. They owe use another $90 (they only pay $30/day for each day they are outside the delivery window, and even though my stuff was due by 7/1 and arrived on 7/5, they apparently thought that added up to $90). I refuse to sign the paperwork for that reimbursement as it leaves me unable to go after them for anything else, and they still owe me for the penalty charge for using a CC to pay for the car, car repairs, all the stuff I had to buy while my stuff was sitting in Chicago, as well as countless broken and damaged items.
They did offer to rent me furniture when mine didn’t come. I told them that I didn’t want rented furniture. I wanted my stuff back and I wanted reimbursed for the stuff I had to buy to survive. It was a nightmare, an absolute nightmare. The only person at Colonial who actually helped me was Leon. He finally got me my stuff, some money refunded, and did not have a “the customer is always wrong” attitude like everyone else in that company. Best Price Moving and storage just needs to go out of business. They are just horrendous. Al, the owner, could use some customer service lessons as well. When I asked him if he treats all of his customers the way he was treating me he threatened to leave our things in Chicago and dump us as customers, and we could find a way to get them back ourselves.
Do not, please DO NOT use this company and never let BP Moving and Storage take your belongings. I hired them because of their Consumer Affairs rating, which is why I am back here reviewing them. If you have hired them please cancel before it’s too late. They are absolutely terrible, nonresponsive, they don’t care about you or your belongings, and it WILL be the biggest headache of your life. I can’t tell you how many hours I wasted sitting on the phone trying to get help from these two terrible companies. I have never cried so much thinking everything we owned was gone forever. Please don’t put yourself through this. There are far better companies out there.
Hi Shannon, we apologize for the experience you had as this is not the standard we like to bet nor how we like to be viewed. I have notified our resolutions manager, Teheria of your concerns and she will be in contact with you Monday when we reopen for business in order to assist you. Thank you for your patience and we hope that we are able to work everything out.
