Black and Decker convection oven model CT06335S - Oven door shattered after only about 10 minutes shooting glass across kitchen. Temperature was set correctly according to manual that came with oven. No one will contact me back about this. Oven only a few months old. Very dangerous.

I put pita bread in the toaster oven to warm up. Went into my garage next to my kitchen to get something out of our freezer. Heard a huge bang. Two of my three large dogs screamed while the third one went running with her tail between her legs into the garage with me. I ran into the house only to see two of my dogs covered in hot, broken tempered glass. I quickly brushed them off and saw that the toaster oven door literally exploded! The glass that wasn't on the dogs, was all over the floor and the toaster was still going. I unplugged it and was trying to see what happened.

The actual door blew to the other side of the kitchen and landed on the floor. Since I have dogs, I swept up the glass but took pictures of the toaster and what is left of the door. I plan on contacting Black & Decker tomorrow since they are closed now. This is not a heavily used toaster so I have no clue what happened. I'm glad the glass was tempered or I hate to think what would have happened to my dogs.

I put one corn tortilla in the toaster oven, for a few minutes on timer. I turned myself to wash my hands. When I looked over at the toaster oven, there was smoke coming out. I quickly ran over and unplugged it. It was on fire. Luckily I was there and I can unplug it out immediately. This is the second time that this issue happen with a different mode... last time was a piece of bread. In less than a minute this oven was on fire. Definitively this product is a fire hazard and should not be on the market. Black & Decker should decide something about this products.

I have had numerous Black and Decker products over the years and never had any serious problems, till tonight and I am very concerned. My stainless toaster oven (Model # CTO 4500S Type 2) door literally exploded violently. Thank God my son and I were in the next room. What a noise, startled us both badly. The entire glass door exploded while heating up dinner, sent glass across the kitchen, even on the counter top six feet away. It was on 300 for maybe 6 minutes when it exploded. Had we been in the kitchen when it exploded we both would have needed medical treatment. I am going to contact Black and Decker. Really not to sure I will purchase another of their toaster ovens. I consider this toaster oven a dangerous product that should be recalled. Don't have a receipt anymore but oven is about 8 months old. Have pics though.

I purchased a Black & Decker toaster oven, $40 - but on sale for $20, and now I understand why. I got it home and put HALF an English muffin inside. After about 5 minutes, I checked and saw no change to it, then turned the heat up. In about 1 minute, I smelled a horrific burnt metal smell and the outside was as hot as a cattle prod. Taking it back tomorrow. Black & Decker, never again!

Had the model B&D TRO480BS Countertop Oven for 2 weeks and on 10/8/14 used it to toast English Muffin and all of sudden the glass door exploded into pieces. Lucky my spouse was not near the toaster oven when this happened. I contacted B&D Customer Care. They would either send me an exact replacement or refund. Surprise there was no recall on the unit and that they still continue selling the same model. I took the refund but will not buy B&D.

The Temperature guide with clear water washed off. I called the co. and was told to send the plug to the oven and they would send me another oven which they did. It has worked OK until a couple days ago. I turned it on and heavy smoke was coming from the oven. I IMMEDIATELY UNPLUGGED THE OVEN so I thought to myself maybe there was a spot of grease to cause the smoke, so a COUPLE DAYS LATER, I plugged it up again - same problem. I'm very fortunate that my kitchen didn't catch on fire, so this oven is going to the DUMPSTER.... YOU WOULD THINK THAT BLACK & DECKER WOULD CORRECT THESE DANGEROUS PROBLEMS......

I bought a B&D toaster oven 3 days ago; used it for 5 min to warm a tortilla. After I turned it off, I saw there was fire inside the oven. Few minutes later, the glass door shattered and the door handle came off. There was glass all over my kitchen. Thankfully, I was home today. I am wondering what would have happened if I had used the machine and turned it off and left the house. Our house would have been on fire. I purchased the oven from Sears. I called them to complain... they didn't care. They asked me to bring it back and they will refund my money. Seeing the number of similar complaints on this site, I am wondering why the product is still on the market.

I recently purchased a Black and Decker Toaster oven from Bed Bath and Beyond. I have been using it for only a few weeks. I cooked a frozen pizza in the oven and as the pizza was cooking the glass door shattered on its own and the handle separated completely from the door. The temp was turned to 425 and it was on for 25 minutes. I then read through some reviews and found that this has happened to other customers! What gives?! What should I do?

I bought Black & Decker Toast-R-Oven TD1313SDB at Target for a few weeks but didn't start to use it until a week ago. I made toasts for a few times. Today, I turned the oven to 400 degrees first time and it started to smoke. I was alarmed and turned it off. After things calmed down, I tried to toast and it started to smoke profusely. So I turned it off and unplugged ASAP. I noticed part of the lower heater tube turned black. The house smelled terrible like something burning. It probably would have caught fire if I didn't turned it off. Then I found this bulletin and just glad I didn't have to deal with a house fire.

On October 11, 2013, I was preparing Bruschetta in the countertop oven, TRO480BS, and had turned the oven on perhaps 2 or 3 minutes prior. I turned away and thank goodness was out of range when the glass door and the top metal part of the door blew off. I always unplug small appliances when not in use so this unit could not have overheated. I have never had this happen before and over my 46 years of marriage have had many countertop toasters and/or ovens. This was a recent gift and except for the shattered door, looks like a new unit. I even still have the box it came in.

I talked with the customer care unit today and they are sending a replacement but after reading all the negative reviews I wonder if there is a problem with B&D's quality control for this and several other of their units. The new unit is to be shipped next week. Rest assured, I will try it but will always step out of its explosive range when I turn it on and will not leave it unattended. I certainly hope I do not have a repeat performance with the replacement unit.

Poorly designed unit that should not have passed safety requirements. I used this unit to make toast and ended up returning it after one day. The unit has a manual steel rack. It does not slide out when the door is opened, You must PUT YOUR HAND IN THE HOT OVEN TO PULL OUT THE RACK (use a heavy oven mitt, really convenient). When the unit heated up, a heavy water condensation appeared inside the glass door (unit was new, clean & dry inside). The moisture in the white bread was the source. You could not see into the unit, of course. I opened the door to wipe down the inside glass: THE unit has NO AUTO SHUTOFF! You must turn the primitive mechanical timer knob to "off", cool down, and start over. Toast was okay on the top surface, but BURNED on the bottom (black & white stripes, like the bread was sitting on a barbecue grill with charcoals! I didn't give this unit a chance to burn me or ruin more toast, I returned it. I called the company with my complaint, and they didn't seem to give a hoot. BUY SOME OTHER BRAND (not made by Applica of China)!

Had originally purchased Black & Decker Toast-R-Oven model # TO1460BC (no longer available), which arced and sparked after 1 year. B & D sent replacement oven model # TR0480BSC, which has a history of exploding doors and/or catching on fire. When in contact with B & D, they indicated replacement could be sent back at their expense and they would also refund the purchase price of the original. This is still work in progress to see if they fulfill their agreement.

This toaster oven is barely a year old and already it's dead. When turning the timer wheel, it would sometimes not turn on. Now it will not turn on at all. Not only is this piece of junk a waste of money, but the landfill space that faulty appliances consume is horrible. This is my last B&D item ever.

We purchased our toaster oven (B&D Toast-R-Oven Model #480BS) on July 20, 2012. As of June 7, 2013, the toaster function will not turn off. The only way we can stop the toaster from working is by unplugging the oven from the wall. This is clearly a fire hazard since we have to be in the room when the toaster function is on, and closely monitor the toast to make sure it doesn't burn, and then unplug the oven. I will not be purchasing another product from Black and Decker. Unfortunately, this company used to be an excellent company, but it sure isn't anymore.

I have had my Black & Decker Countertop Convection Toaster Oven Model CTO6335S since 10/24/2012 and thought it was a great product. On 5/20/2013 at approximately 5:55 am, I was awakened by an unusual noise in my kitchen. When I got out of my bed to investigate the noise, I found that the glass door on my toaster oven had exploded and shattered into a million pieces. There wasn't anyone in my household awake at that time; therefore, the oven wasn't being used. The last time anyone had used it prior to this happening was at about 3:30 pm on 5/19/2013. Needless to say, I no longer think this is a great product! I have sent a complaint to the company. So far, I have not had any response. If and when I do get a response, I will update this complaint as to the results.

I used my toaster oven regularly for a few years and really liked it until one day it caught fire. I blamed myself, thinking that I had misjudged the time and/or temperature, so I cleaned it up and kept using it. However, the machine is clearly defective. It is now burning everything! I don't know why it went from working just fine to suddenly being a fire hazard. However, I clearly need to invest in a new toaster oven (from a different company!). This machine is dangerous. After reading the other reviews, apparently, I'm lucky it wasn't worse and no one was injured.

Last night as we were making dinner, I had looked over at the toaster and noticed the entire thing was on fire. The flames were shooting up the cabinet doors. The cabinet ended up catching on fire. Luckily, I put it out so we didn't lose the house. If this is happening to various consumers, perhaps Black & Decker should recall the toasters and do some research into making safer products.

B&D/Applica line of toaster ovens is dangerous. My husband and I had one several years ago. It caught on fire, so we complained and took the free replacement. That one caught on fire and we took another free replacement. That one I left in the basement for a long time before being brave enough to try again. Guess what? That one caught on fire also. These were different models and each had the same problem. I gave up. These are dangerous and need to be recalled. The last model has a timer that won't turn off. It keeps ticking eerily. It's very difficult to control the settings.

What were we making in the toaster oven? Simple things that you would expect to be put in a toaster oven: pita bread, slice of leftover pizza on a tray, plain corn chips a tray. Never again! Flames were reaching the underside of the kitchen cupboards and the house filled with smoke and the odor was awful. Baby was screaming. I was shaking. The scare and fear that you feel when you realize your home could have burned down - with your family inside - is horrific.

We now use only the regular oven. It's not convenient, but it's safe. The worst case scenario is we burn the toast. Even if B&D/Applica were to give me a free replacement, I would be too scared to use it, and I can't think of giving it away to anyone I know or a charity, only to have someone else possibly injured.

How ironic! I had a house fire a year ago. I received a Black & Decker toaster oven as a house warming present. I've only used it about 10 times to make toast. I put pita bread in it yesterday and set the timer for 10 minutes. I went to the bathroom, and when I came out the damn thing was on fire. From all these posts, I don't think this is an isolated incident. When I called Black & Decker, all they offered was a replacement. I'm not sure I want to use the new unit. I think all of us who have experienced this should file a class action lawsuit. Someone will get hurt eventually, and they need to recall this piece of crap!
