I purchased a 46" Vizio Lcd from Wal-Mart and after only 3 months the S-video jack broke. Called wal-Mart and was told had to go to vizio after 90 days. Vizio stated it was self induced would not warranty it. Therefore my daughter and I carefully layed the tv on its face on top of pillows to fix the problem ourself. We did this because all the component jacks are on the bottom of tv instead of rear or side panel. After we set the tv back upright the internal screen was cracked and tv is ruined, get nothing but colored horizontal & verticle lines.

On 2/6/2009 I purchased a VIZIO LCD TV from techforless.com for $715.48. And I was told that the TV was new and covered by 1 year manufacturer's warranty.
On 11/27/2009 when I contacted VIZIO (Vizio.com) for warranty support on the TV I was told that techforless.com was not an authorized seller for VIZIO products so they will not honor my warranty. We need a law that protects the consumer. We need to have a law that fines distributors that sell products they are not authorized to sell or they must state on the invoice that they are not authorized by the manufacturer to sell that product. And the manufacturer must state in the installation manual upfront that the warranty is void unless purchased from an authorized seller and provide the complete list of sellers. Thanks. My husband and I purchased a 32" HDTV Vizio television in May 2008. So far we have had problems with the power supply and the volume control. The television pops off and on 4 or 5 times until it decides to stay on. The volume would just go off while we were watching it. Now the volume will not stay on at all. I call the out of warranty department and he told me that it would cost $335.00 for a service call and repair. I told him that is more than half of the price of the television. All customer service did was refer us to repair companies in our area. Please do not ever purchase a Vizio television!!!! If a class action law ever arises please include me. From now on I will purchase any other brand other than Vizio.

11-2-09 complaint 47" LCD TV. I Purchased set in Nov 08 at SAM'S CLUB. Have had serviced 3 times under warranty. Last issue will not receive Ch 36-1 DTV. I sent in pictures and a video and they said they would replace the set. About a week later a refurbished set arrived and when the delivery company hooked it up the new set did the same thing - no Ch 36. I refused delivery of another defective TV. I called VIZIO customer service and talked to Chu, Case #773407. He said he would refer it to engineering but blamed it on a low signal from the broadcaster. I hooked my 32" Slyvania to the same coax lead in and sat it under the 47 " Vizio and Ch 36 came in beautifully. The Vizio does not have an antennae function but my Slyvania did so I took the relative strength reading of 85% and then gave that info to Chu. As of this date Chu has not heard back from Engineering but is still blaming it on the TV station saying that it's signal is too strong and it is reflecting off tall buildings or mountains or hills and the reflected signal confuses the tuner? I live in SW Florida and we are flat - no hills highest elevation is 100 feet in the middle of the state and they call that a hill? My community has a height zoning restriction for of 4 stories or 50 feet and there are no tall buildings. At this point VIZIO has not offered any solutions and refuses to send out a technician to diagnose the problem or send me a new - not refurbished set. I have 2 more years left on my extended warranty. I will not buy another VIZIO TV. I will do what ever I can to tell everyone else NOT to buy a VISIO TV and I will complain to SAM'S Club and try to get them to either replace the TV or put pressure on VIZIO to replace it. I will keep you informed.

ON-off problem when I turn on. I finally got tired of this problem and being short on cash and didn't call anyone right away, I just left the TV on ALWAYS. About 4 days ago I started this. Today the TV just went OFF. Tried to get it on for about 45 mins, nothing. Unplugged the power, waited about 30 mins, plugged it back in. No power AT ALL now. I called Vizio and they said they will help me I guess. I had to get this information. Then I had to FAX them some information, I don't know why, seems lame to me. But anyway I am going on vacation in 2 days and I am NOT going to have time to deal with this. It is a total waste of time and I can not believe this happened NOW. I mean unless they are going to send someone to my house to FIX my television set it is going to be pointless. I will have to ship it to them, then I will have to have it shipped back, and this is all going to have to take place after I get back from vacation. I just really hope they are going to have this covered under warranty after 1 1/2 years about. I bought It last June from a Walmart, But I live about 79 miles from the walmart so I don't have time to go up there and talk to them.

This was the second TV of the same model that went bad, the first one died in less than a year. I think that if you pay $2500.00 plus for a TV it should last more than two years. Part 2-Vizio 32" Plasma TV Power On-Off Saga. Well I couldn't stand the fact that my TV wasn't working after about 1 year and almost 3 months, so after about two days of festering, I decided to take a chance and call the Vizio warranty repair support line. I explained my situation to Jody (South Dakota). She listened and was very respectful. Even though it was beyond the warranty period, she told me to send a copy of the original receipt and she would handle the rest. I was given a case number. Unfortunately I could not find my original receipt...fortunately, I registered the TV with Vizio on-line when I got home and wrote the date of purchase and serial # in my owner's manual. Thank God I purchased from Walmart and yahoo for Walmart's computer system! I was able to speak to the store manager and presto within 5 minutes was able to get a duplicate store receipt; e-mailed to Jody and voila! I am now scheduled for a tv repair on November 23rd. Kudos to Jody...my feelings about the Vizio company has changed. For anyone who has the same problem with the powering on and off and owned this tv for about a year 1/2 or less, please please call Vizio. You may be able to get your tv repaired even though it's beyond the warranty period. What do you have to lose? If you have your original receipt (this is the key requirement) evidently the company is aware of the problems and seems willing to help resolve this issue with the customer. I am very pleased...no, I am beyond ecstatic that I will be getting my tv repaired free of charge.

Tech came out replaced the Main Board and Power Board and still didn't work. Technician's Tech support said the tv was non-repairable. My only option is to have a recertified tv or pay $250.00 for an upgrade. It took me a week to come up with those options!!! First call they had the wrond serial number, 2nd call they said I needed to fax a receipt in and that it would take 24 - 48 hrs for tech to come out. I finally got them to schedule tech to come out after arguing for 20 min. After calling and speaking to Vizio Corporate HQ manager the only thing he offered was to pay $250 for upgrade or have a recertified tv sent out. Not to mention that same upgraded tv is $50.00 more than what I paid for mine at the time of purchase. After 5 months a tv should not break especially when you spend over $1,000.00 for it and if it does they should send out a new one not a recertified. This tv at the time was one of their flagship televisions. I would strongly suggest purchasing a different product.

What is not great is that about 1 mo. after the warranty expired the TV would start clicking on-off-on when first powering up the set. I got a $40,000 loan from Sallie Mae in 2005. At the time, I was anticipating to have a culinary career and be able to pay upon graduating. During the final semester, I did make some interest payment on the loan to help keep it low. After graduating, I was able to get my career started and made payments on time. Then, unfortunate circumstances happened. I lost my job and so I used the forbearance option.

As the years went by, I struggled in finding another career and doing my best to make payments. Today, I work a job I was lucky to get with this economy, have exhausted my forbearance usage, and have not been able to make payments since I make less than $20,000 yearly. However, they keep harassing me by calling my home or work wanting to collect my payment which are still not affordable. Thanks to cost of living.

I am planning to file bankruptcy even though Sallie Mae can't be discharged. But even then, I still won't be able to afford their payments, again, due to job market/cost of living. One rep from them even said, "Can't you skip rent one month?" or "Borrow from a friend to make your loan current." Oh, yes. I am going to risk being evicted. I don't think so. I can't get an additional job, friends/family can't help pay my debts. So what can I do?

I purchased a 32" Vizio HDTV at Walmart on July 24, 2008 as a gift for my mother. The TV started having problems with turning on and off repeatedly about the 2nd week of October 2009. She contacted Vizio about this problem and they advised her to unplug the set and wait a about 15mins and plug it back in. It continued to turn on and off repeatedly, and seemed to her to get worse. About a week after this happened, the TV shut down and has not worked since. She again contacted Vizio and was told her warranty had expired and they would provide her with a number for repair, at her expense. Since I purchased the TV, I emailed "Vivian" at Vizio technical support and also was told after a few correspondences that she was "sorry" but that the warranty had expired and that "unfortunately, after the one year warranty has expired, Vizio is no longer responsible for expenses". I have gone to Walmart with the complaint and will continue to pursue this up through the chain of commands at Vizio. I was also told on more than one occasion that I had the opportunity to purchase the extended warranty for the Tv...my thoughts on this are if you stand behind your product and build a decent product, an extended warranty should not be needed. I spent over $562.32 on this set and expect more than 14 months of use. Sounds as if there are quite a few complaints regarding Vizio. Would like to see these issues taken care of.

I have unplugged the set and plugged it in again. Still nothing. Guess I better be prepared to step into the line of frustrated customers contacting Costco and Vizio. I bought a VIZIO 32" plasma HDTV for my husband for Father's Day in June, 2008. He was quite pleased with the appliance until this morning when he went to turn it on. Instead of a program all he heard was a popping sound. The set would not turn on. He tried every troubleshooting suggestion but the attempts were in vain. When he contacted Vizio's customer service he was told that it "sounds like the power supply board is out". Because the warranty period has expired, the technician cheerfully told my husband that he could pay to ship the set to them to have it repaired but that there was nothing that they could do otherwise. I did not purchase the extended warranty for the set because I naively thought that a product that cost nearly $600.00 would be one of quality which we would be able to enjoy for many years before it would need to be repaired or replaced. Whatever happened to pride of craftmanship?? Rest assured that not only will we never purchase a product from that company again but we shall warn everyone who asks what we think of their merchandise to run, not walk, away from ANY product offered by Vizio.

Wrote about my Vizio experience about 1 month ago. Since then Vizio has replaced a motherboard and issued a refurb.
The motherboard replacement had the same problem-probably in their firmware. The refurb had multiple other problems-the case showed obvious damage when delivered, the remote is far cheaper and without backlight. The tuner would show pixelation on many channels and would only tune in other channels 1/4 of the time. Also, the TV would randomly turn itself off. Vizio was going to issue the same refurb again, but saying the second refurb would have new firmware installed that should correct these issues. After the first refurb they claimed if there were still issues a new TV would be issued. I did bring this up and argued a bit, but then decided it was pointless to argue. The next day Vizio called back and said upon escalating the issue the managers decided this case deserved a new TV and would be issuing a new one for delivery. So, after 1 repair, 1 shipped refurb, 3+ weeks of waiting, and hours and hours on the phone with Costco and Vizio we were granted a new TV. I will say the new TV is their latest model, 120hz, SRS sound, and the screen and picture are very noticeably better than the other LCD's I have owned. The remote control is very simple and cheap, no backlight and the worst remote, but a saving grace is the Vizio on screen menu has been updated and you can access some functions like widescreen, sleep, etc., from there. This entire experience has been a head ache and a waste of time, but then again I'm glad the Vizio died before the 2 year Costco warranty ran out. We had to spend a great deal of time, but at least we did end up with a brand new TV.

However, now it has been about 15 months after purchase, and I cannot get a picture at all from the direct cable feed. Oddly, I do get a picture from my DVD Recorder feed. Very frustrating. I have read that a faulty fuse can be the problem, though I wouldn't think there would be two picture fuses (one for cable feed and another for DVD feed), but you never know.

My boyfriend and I purchased our 32'' vizio tv on 4/18/09 from Costco. It was a compromise between the vizio or the toshiba tv. I was pushing for the toshiba because my dad has a 15 yr old toshiba that still works great! BUT my boyfriend said that it was American made and major league baseball promotes it and we should support anything American made. Well little did we know right on the box it says made in CHINA! So right there is the first fallacy. We just got our first house and previously we were living at his friends house and in our room we didnt have cable so we just watched dvds on it. Now that we have our own place we signed up with dish network and they plugged into the HDMI 1 and it sparked at him right away he said we had a hot tv, but our electrician should come out to make sure its not the wiring. We had a full inspection of the house and everything passed couldn't find any wiring problems. We had a new dish guy come out and he had no proble so we thought oh just a fluke.
On Saturday the fifth of September we had guests over for the first Iowa Hawkeye game. My boyfriends brother brought over his PS3 to show all of us his new game and he went to plug in the HDMI cable into HDMI port 2 and it sparked and HDMI port 3 smoked!!! His HDMI port in his PS3 is now fried and doesn't work because of our tv and it costs $140 to repair it. Our tv shut off right away and now it won't turn on at all. I got on the phone with Costco right away and they were very helpful however the Vizio people were not. I tried being cordial at first however when they started blaming it on my wiring not being grounded and then finding out from the costco rep that they always blame it on wiring first because they don't want it to be the tv I kinda lost it. I repeatedly told them that we had already had the wiring in the house inspected by a midamerican electrician. The rep from vizio literally laughed at me!!! I work in customer service and our moto is if the customer isn't happy you won't be happy and this guy thought this whole situation was a joke. Then he was telling me that he had to talk to his level 3 agent. He came back and said that since we plugged in an HDMI cable into the HDMI port it was customer damage!!! I told him that that's what they are there for is for the customer to plug things into the HDMI they're not just there to look at. By this point I am furious and told him he wasn't doing his job and I wanted to talk to the level three agent. Mind you I have a house full of guests all witnesses to this conversation because my phone was on speaker. The guy comes back and says that he can't transfer me to the agent so the agent is going to call me. My costco rep was listening the whole time to help with the process and he told me to not answer the phone because they were trying to get him off of the connection. Finally we get ahold of the level 3 guy and he tells me that they won't replace the tv because of the wiring in our house. Now we're back to the wiring. He also tells me that this has never happened before to a vizio tv. Obviously there are problems with vizio tvs otherwise everyone else would not be posting on here. I read him there statement on the box about priding themselves in there warranty and I asked him how difficult was it they either send someone out to repair or they replace it. He then got snippy with me and told me and my costco rep the neither of us have taken apart and put back together a tv so we should be understanding to the people who are trying to help. And I said well here's the thing you're not helping. I told him I would never be purchasing a vizio ever again and yelled back at me and said that's fine! I was shocked because in customer service no matter how mad and upset the customer is you should never yell at them.

I bought a Vizio 42-inch TV back in November 2007 from Costco. Around Super Bowl time 2008, the TV experienced the "pop of death" and became useless. Costco had a 90-day return policy, and I was a few weeks out but managed to get them to refund my money by escalating it to a regional manager. I need a TV for the game, so I added about $300 more and bought a 47-inch Vizio. I felt I was "saving" about $300 or more compared to other brands like Samsung, Sharp, Sony, etc. And I thought my 42-inch Vizio was just a lemon.

I have owned the 47-inch Vizio for about 1 year and 8 months and ran into a different issue. The TV locks up and the screen freezes. The remote and on TV controls do not work, and you have to unplug the TV to shut it off. At first, this problem happened 1-2x a day, which is very annoying. Now, it happens every 30 minutes or less, so the TV is pretty much unusable.

I'm still within Costco's 2-year warranty, which I am thankful for because I have arranged for a repair next week. The problem is my warranty expires in 4 months, and looking at the listed issues experienced by so many others as well as my own experiences with Vizio, I'm pretty sure I should be saving for a new TV. You can be assured I'll save longer in order to get a different brand. All TV brands do have lemons and issues, but Vizio seems to be way above normal. Also, the initial $200-400 you think you may be "saving" is worthless when the Vizio dies in 1-2 years and is out of warranty when a higher quality set lasts for 5+ years.

Around mid-August 2009, my 47" VIZIO television just blacked out. I've had it for about two years, so it is not within the manufacturer's warranty. I called the customer service support line and they gave me the number for ITI, their technical service company for those past warranty. I called 1-800-526-1084 and was given another number to call. I then called the other number, left a voice message and no one has called me back. I bought the 47" and a 42" from Sam's for about $2200 total. The 42" is still working (for now). After reading other consumer complaints with the same problem, I can't believe their TVs are still on the market. If there is ever a class action lawsuit, please contact me.

I purchased my 42 inch Vizio TV in 12/07 from Dell. It is only 20 months old. So the year warranty is over. The other day, I was watching TV and all of a sudden it made a loud noise and went black. The TV was still on, but the remote or the buttons on the side did not work. It would not turn off unless it was unplugged. The Vizio tech knew exactly what it was and referred us to a Vizio repair place. They took 5 days to get back with us and said that it would be at least $400.00 to repair and could be more if something else was found. This is so upsetting! When you pay $1,200.00 for something, you expect it to last longer than a year and a half! After reading many of the same complaints, I think there should be a recall on these TVs! We should be able to get our hard earned money back! It's not right that Vizio has not done anything to resolve this problem! I turned off the TV and turned it back on. Nothing happened. I called the tech support at Sam's Club and he had me do some tests on it to see if he could fix the problem. He couldn't. He then gave me the number for Vizio's tech support. I called the number and was on the phone with him for 45 min. He had me do the same tests that I did with the Sam's Club tech. It was the same problem, he couldn't fix it or tell me what was wrong either. He said he would check to see if anyone else had the same problem. He said there had been no reports of this problem with any of their TVs.

I then got on the web and pulled up Consumers Affairs and got into electronics and went to Vizio TVs. Boy, was I surprised! There were hundreds if not thousands of the same problems. There were so many I got tired of reading them. I found out the Vizio tech lied to me. I now have a $1025 Vizio TV that doesn't work. It lasted for 1 year and 10 months. That's an expensive TV. The 42-inch TV is still being sold and I don't know why? If they have the same problem with the other TVs, then why are they still selling it and not take it off the market!

The result seems to be the sensor eye and the Vizio tech said since it is out of warranty and she did not purchase an extended warranty (Walmart did not offer such an option to her), the best they could do was to find us a local service person. In December 2007, I purchased a Vizio JV50P HDTV10A plasma television from Sears. On August 20, 2009, a bright pink vertical line suddenly appeared on the screen. After checking that it was not caused by my satellite service (by pulling the cable and trying both my VCR and DVD, which still showed the pink line), I called Vizio customer care. I was told that the line is caused by a bad gas node and cannot be repaired, that I have to replace the entire unit. This product is 8 months out of its original manufacturer's warranty, and I still have over $600 in payments left from the original cost of $1,600.

I have now found an overwhelming amount of Vizio owners with the same problem of their televisions developing major problems after approximately 1 to 1-1/2 years of ownership and out of warranty. Vizio does not stand behind their product and if there is no extended warranty purchased on the product, the consumer is left holding the bag. The Vizio rep stated that the least little bump to the TV could cause this problem. However, the TV had not been moved since being installed. We have no children romping around the house, and the only time it is touched is to dust it. If it is true that the smallest bump would cause this issue, how is it that it does not happen in shipping and/or delivery and installation? Ridiculous excuse. These are defective products that should be recalled and the consumers made whole.

I have suffered a loss of $1,600, with over $600 left to pay on this product on my Sears credit card. I cannot afford to simply go out and purchase another unit. I am now left with a defective television and a situation of throwing good money after bad.

Clearly, with all these complaints, Vizio makes an extremely poor product. Costco either needs to not carry it, or, if they are going to stick with their policy on electronics of no returns after 90 days (where it used to be "bring it back, whenever") and have an "extended warranty", the extended warranty for junk like this needs to be more than 1 year.

I turned the TV on and all you hear is a click and the screen stays black - no flicker of light, no sound, and none of the controls work. The only way to turn it off is to unplug it. I called a few repair shops and a couple refused to even work on Vizio saying they were too cheaply made. He said there were over 100 screws in the back and he hated working on them (is this the evidence we need that Vizio really screws it's customers?). So with this new found information, I called Vizio and they played dumb pretending they didn't know what I was talking about. I purchased Vizio 47 inch television, GV47L fhdtv. Two years and two months later, the screen is blank and no sound. It was out of warranty. Estimate to repair was $425. I spent about $1600 to purchase. Is this a common problem with Vizio? I have read many complaints similar on the internet. Also, after speaking with Vizio about repair, I was contacted by a person stating I should have bought an extended warranty. I am now in the process of trying to find another estimate locally. Vizio gave me the telephone number of ITI Repair. They just contacted me today after one week wait and troubleshoot over the line to give above estimate. I also purchased another Vizio TV in November 2008. I have had one problem with it turning off by itself. I reset the TV by unplugging everything and it seems to be okay now but I worry about later since reading online problems of other persons purchasing Vizio televisions. Thank you.

Vizio screen went up long before the Sony which was purchased at least two years earlier. I am very dismayed because I know defense contractors rely heavily on Vizio products in equipment which is supposed to keep our troops safe. I plan to write their Congressman and request an inquiry into the suitability of Vizio as a supplier to defense contractors. I am willing to join class action suit against them for providing defective equipment. I am very disappointed both in their results and in their response to consumer complaints. Paying for cable and not having a 42 inch screen to watch it on is quite annoying but not as frightening as thinking about the thousands of lives that could be lost if one of their shipboard displays goes bad. We have a larger TV but that is not the point.

We purchased a Vizio 50'' plasma TV less than three years ago. Last night, the TV made a popping sound and now it no longer works. We bought directly from the company and our warranty was expired, so we are hard-pressed to find somebody to help us. Our first call to Vizio resulted in them having us call the repair techs they use. After repeated calls and several messages, we have yet to hear back from them. I began researching on the internet and found that tons of people have had the same problem with their plasma. I called Vizio back saying that we couldn't get a hold of their tech people and they sent us to another tech company they use.

Unfortunately, this company has no service reps in our area. When I told the Vizio guy about all the complaints I read about, he said basically that plasmas break easily and he was surprised that ours lasted this long. He went on to say that many companies are no longer making plasma TVs because of all of the problems. We've also called other techs in our area and they either don't service Vizios or they don't make house calls. Our TV is mounted and we have a small car. Just getting it somewhere is next to impossible!

We purchased a Vizio 42" LCD online through Dell in January 2008. Last month, I read an article in Orange Coast magazine about the owner of Vizio and his struggles with his life. I was really pleased with my Vizio and thought we made a good investment. Then, last month, the Vizio went dead! I finally unplugged and plugged it back in. All I got were vertical lines on the screen. Vizio was contacted and I was told I was out of my one-year warranty period and they would not do anything about it. We had the TV for 15 1/2 months. We then contacted Dell and they said they could not help us and we should call Vizio.

We called Vizio again and they instructed us to have a technician come out. The tech (PVS Electronics) came out and determined that it needed a new "panel". He told us he contacted Vizio and they told him they don't carry the part for the TV. I am so disappointed and frustrated with Vizio. This is a horrible product, quality and customer service. I expected this TV to last at least 5 years! We will not be purchasing a Vizio again nor will we be recommending a Vizio to any friends or families. We spent over $1200 for the TV, mounting and installation! My kids loved it! We are now in a financial position that we can not afford to replace it.

I exchanged a defective Vizio 42" plasma flat panel TV. The TV was purchased across town at another Wal-Mart. They could not exchange the TV (out of stock), and sent me to the Burgess Road store, which had the TV in stock. The TV's sales price had been reduced by $100.00, but they did not offer to pay me the difference. Had I simply returned the TV, I would have received the full price I paid, and then could have purchased the reduced price model across town.

Certainly I lost respect for the Sam Walton philosophy. It obviously did not make it down to the assistant store manager at either store I dealt with. Service today is everything, and my business will continue with those whose service is foremost in their attempt to garner my business. I feel I am owed $100 by Wal-Mart, and an apology for the rude careless behavior of the store’s management.

For about a month now, the remote would work for a few minutes then would not linger work. Sometimes, the TV goes off without touching anything. I have called Vizio to find our about repair, and no one will return my phone calls. Just found out that Vizio does not let most TV repair shops buy parts so they cannot repair my TV.

We live in the middle of Wisconsin, and so far, we have not been able to find anyone who will fix our TV. When I called Vizio, they were rude and very unhelpful. The "reps" from Vizio have given me 4 different phone numbers, a different one each time I have finally gotten through to them. And when I questioned this, each rep told me they had never heard of the other numbers.

I have had it. I will never buy this brand again, and I will tell everyone who will listen that this is a bad deal. I believe that this is a manufacturing defect but of course, since I did not purchase the extended warranty, Vizio will not even listen to this complaint.

I purchased a VIZIO back on 11-15-2008 from Walmart. Within two months I started having problems. I called customer service and after 45 minutes on the telephone we were able to trouble shoot it. Another month went by and there was another problem, but this time I was on the telephone for over an hour. Two weeks went by and there was another problem. I called and we were able to trouble shoot it again. Then the channels started locking up and the screen would go blue. I called VIZIO and they said that it was my cable company. I called the cable company and I ended up calling VIZIO back. After over an hour on the telephone they agreed to have a repair man come to my home. The repair man came and replaced the main board in the television. After awhile the television was doing the same thing, but there were black or red lines once in awhile. I called again and the tech sent me to a higher up tech. This was after I was on the telephone forever. This tech said that there had been so many problems with the television that I could have a new one ( which would take up to eight weeks) or they could send the tech out again. I agreed to have the tech sent back out. I asked the tech what if the problem continued and he said since the problem happened under warranty that they would continue to assist me and I would not have to worry. He also stated that if I had more problems after this that I should call and I would receive a new 42'. By now I was in 10-2008. The repair man came and replaced the board again. One day I woke up and the black and red lines were back and the remote would not work. I called VIZIO and I was told they could not help me. They said that I was calling to late with the complaint. I explained that this had been an ongoing problem and finally the employee put me through to a manager(A.J.) I was outside when he called back and so I tried to call him back. I got an employee Raymond on the telephone. He was refusing to put me through to a supervisor and said that any supervisor in his department was not a level three. Only a level three manager could overturn the decision, but after almost five minutes of insisting a manager (Matt) got on the telephone. I asked if I could be put through to the manager's voicemail that had left me the message and I was told no. He said he had reviewed the case and there was nothing that he could do. I said that I knew that because the employee (Raymond) had said that you were not a level three and you could not over ride anything. The manager said that was not true and I said that is what your employee told me. He said that he was sitting next to Raymond and he never said that. I said he did and Matt called me a liar. I tried to have him pull up my previous problems and he swore that day was first time I had ever called. He stated that I should have bought my computer someplace else and I had to correct him that I was calling about a television. He started yelling at me and saying oh well I guess you don't have a T.V. He ended up hanging up on me. I immediately called back and I was put through to someone in a different customer service area that could put me through to A.J's voicemail. That employee said that she had the clearance to pull up my old records, but she did not see the point. She made it clear that no one in their company would have said what I was saying. I asked if they recorded their calls and she said no. I was also told that the company had changed their computer system and that was why only a level three employee could pull up the records before the switch. I was put through to A.J and I left another message, but he never called back. I have been scammed by the company and they did not follow through with their promise to fix the television since it started happening during the warranty period. I was screamed at and hung up on. Worst of all I was called a liar. The manager Matt refused to give me his employee I.D number. It was probably another employee sitting next to Raymond. I was also told to just go and buy another television, but why I'm already out over 1000.00.

When I called Vizio to report the problem, their "advice" from customer support was for me to call my local TV repair company. Very helpful indeed. After about year and a half, I've noticed that the sound got worse (louder) and it was present when the TV was still on, so I've called Vizio and explained the situation, but they told me since my factory warranty had expired there was nothing they could do. Reluctantly, since I've had a 2 year extended warranty, after playing cats and mouse for about a month, a local contractor came to my home and performed the repair. However, it seemed like he had no idea what the problem was and out of the blue ordered us a part. After we've received the part, he came back and replaced it, but I noticed that the sound wasn't completely removed and instead, top panel of the TV was damaged from "FORCED ENTRY"? I was just sick and tired of all the hassle and since the sound has weakend, I jsut went ahead and had the matter to rest. After just 8 months later, I'm experiencing the same problem AGAIN! I bought this TV a little over 2 years ago from Costco which I think was a smart move since Costco extends the warranty period to 2 years for any TV or computer products they sell. This TV is marginal compare to my Panasonic Plasma, but I don't mind that since I paid less money for the Vizio. Just after the 2-year warranty period, a small straight horizontal line appeared on the screen and remained there until now. I contacted Vizio and they seemed very concerned about the problem. They said that although the warranty expired, they might be able to do something about it. They made me take pictures of the problem, take the TV off the wall to read all serial and info at the back, which after all this rigorous task, they promised to give me a call back asap. Wrong!

It has been 3 months and the person (supposed to be a higher up engineer) never even made any attempt to give me updates. I finally got a hold of a Panasonic certified technician to come to my house to calibrate my 50-inch Panasonic. During that time, I showed him the problem with my Vizio. Right away, he detected the problem. He said that the whole panel needs to be replaced and this problem is major. He said Panasonic and Samsung stands by their product and even after the warranty period, they would fix this type of problem because they stand by their product (that it should last 10,000 hrs for the panel to break).

That gave me a sense of hope and I contacted Vizio back telling them what the Panasonic technician had told me. All they said was that they are sorry that their engineer never called me back after 3 months, and that they will not fix the problem for free. What?! Again, they said they are sorry, but they did offer me another TV at a discounted price. What?!

Vizio is sick! This company I think purposely makes disposable TVs. I told them all my TV sets in my lifetime at least lasted 7 years before a major breakdown.

Please keep me informed about some type of class action lawsuit regarding this shady company. They need to be taken down hard for ripping people of their hard earned money. Please don't buy Vizios anymore.

I purchased a Vizio VS42L FHDTV 10A on 4/9/08. I had been saying nothing but good things about my Vizio experience, until now.

    This is the situation:

As I was trying to insert an HDMI cable into the HDMI 1 port, I accidentally touched the corner of the male end of the HDMI cable to a port called the "Service Port". The "Service Port" is only 3mm away from the HDMI port in the back of the TV, and when trying to insert the HDMI cable to the HDMI port from the side of the TV, one could easily see that the "Service Port" is directly in the way of the HDMI port. When trying to plug the HDMI cable in, I accidentally touched the "Service Port", causing my entire TV to shut down. This did not produce a smell or a "pop" noise, but it apparently destroyed my TV.

I contacted Vizio to ask for guidance on the matter, thinking that something so easily touched would have a "reset" button or something that would easily fix the problem. But immediately after I briefly explained to the tech support rep what happened, the Vizio rep told me, "Your warranty will not cover that," then proceeded to tell me to fax in my Proof of Purchase, serial number, case number, and phone number. I questioned him why he was so sure Vizio would not honor the two-year warranty after only getting a brief description of what happened, and he told me to "just fax your info in."

I called a day later to check if my fax went through and they confirmed it did, but right away, I was being told that the warranty won't cover what happened. I asked, "Shouldn't a tech person check it out first to determine that?", considering how minor the touching of the HDMI cable (which wasn't connected to a power source yet) to the "Service Port" was. That person put me on hold and came back to tell me that he talked with someone at "Level 3" and that I cannot do anything about it. Once "Level 3" says it's over, there's nothing I can do. Then he basically told me that I should hang up now and move on.

I said I wanted to speak to someone who was a supervisor in "Level 3". This customer representative named Ray, # **, told me "No". I then said that I wanted to speak with the person in charge of his department, and he said "NO." I even said, "I respectfully request to speak with the supervisor of your department," and he said "NO, I can't." I played this game with him for a few minutes before I told him that, "I'm a disgruntled customer and I want to speak with someone in charge; doesn't Vizio care about that?" and he told me, (seriously), "Vizio doesn't care about disgruntled customers." I almost blew a fuse. I never cussed or cursed at him, nor did I yell at him or be condescending. I kept my cool. He didn't offer any advice on who to talk with regarding repair.

When I mentioned that nowhere in the user manual, warranty, or on the TV itself did it mention anything about how delicate and fragile this "Service Port" is and how everyone should avoid it, he basically said Vizio doesn't care. I then told him that I didn't jam anything in there, I didn't force anything, it was not abuse or misuse at all. But he didn't care and tried to get me off the phone. I realized that I was going to have to approach this a different way and told Ray to watch out for the Karma police.

I called Costco and told them the story. The Costco concierge then called Vizio, put me on hold, then after about four minutes, connected me to a guy named Eric in "Level 3." Eric was useless and gave me a number for ITI, the third-party repair people that Vizio works with. I called during business hours, but had to leave a message that has yet to be returned, which, after reading other posts, does not surprise me. I then asked Eric how could my two-year warranty not cover this situation when Vizio does not warn against touching the "Service Port" anywhere in the literature that came with the TV. I said, "Vizio should have a protective covering if this thing is so fragile." He said the newer models do. I said, "Then you know how delicate it is and how easily it destroys the TV. Please honor my warranty." He said he can't. Then he tried to connect me to the customer service manager at Vizio. All the while, the Costco concierge was listening to my whole discussion. While the phone was trying to connect to the customer service manager at Vizio, the Costco rep said, "It sounds like they don't care to help out." Then the phone never connected to the customer rep at Vizio.

But luckily, I got the extension and dialed a few times myself. After talking with a few underlings, I talked with the floor manager, Donna. She said, "I see your point, but I can't do anything about it." After about twenty minutes of re-explaining that Vizio can't use their "fix-all" excuse of not honoring the warranty because of the broad and vague "abuse" clause they have, she put me on hold to talk with some engineers. She came back and told me that the engineers said the TV cannot be repaired, that the port is "very delicate", and that I basically would have to live with it.

I then asked for her full name or ID number for I would need it in the small claims lawsuit that I was going to file against Vizio. She paused and then offered me a "very good discounted rate on a re-certified Vizio." I said, "Well, that's the first time anyone at Vizio has done anything positive in trying to correct this problem, but I don't want a refurbished TV." She told me that they are not refurbished and explained the difference. She then said she would call me tomorrow to tell me the deals. I told her I wasn't that interested.

I spoke well over three-and-a-half hours with Vizio throughout this day- 1/28/09. At this point, I don't care about her deals, nor do I expect to hear from her. I will never buy a Vizio again. I will take it back to Costco and try to see if they will help me out, even though the 90-day return policy expired six months ago. The TV cost just over $1,000.00. It was the first big purchase for my wife and I, after we got married. We are not wealthy. This was supposed to be a special treat.

TV model L42HDTV10A serial number 10235010022, June 2006 - It started sparking at 4 am in the night, Jan. 23, 2009. The TV was connected to monster surge protector. Still the power supply inside the TV was sparking. My wife got up because of the noise of the sparks and saw lights emitting behind the TV (in dark). She woke me up and when we switched on the lights, we saw smoke coming out of TV and burning plastic/rubber smell.

We have gotten a Vizio 32 LCD TV in July of ‘08. As of Dec. ’08, we now have white light coming from the corners of the TV. I called Vizio and was told to buy a camera (because I did not have one on hand) and take a pic of the TV. I did send camera in, got pic back and could not really see the light all that well. I called Vizio and told the rep or tech the pic did not come out. I was told they would send a rep out but to call back in two days to make sure someone was coming.

I called back and was told I need to take another pic of the TV. And I was told that was the only way they will send a rep out, only if it seems fit to; then I was put on hold. Next I was told by the tech that his boss said he’s not sure but it may sound like the light coming from the TV would NOT be under warranty, and I would have to pay to have that fix? I will never buy another Vizio again. I will never buy another Vizio. I have always had Sony TV, but I thought I give them a try (BUY CHEAP GET CHEAP).

I purchased my Vizio in Las Cruces, NM in Jan. '08, and was very pleased with the overall product. I have since moved to NC when the TV yet again worked very well. On the day the cable was installed, Jan 6, 09 it, continued to work very well. I was getting excited knowing that the playoffs were coming up. The same night as the cable install, an audible pop was heard. Okay, still under warranty. I called Vizio and felt very comfortable with the conversation with one exception, the person on the phone, not a tech, said he would order the parts and have a rep come to fix the TV. How does he know what is broke? He had not seen the TV but asked a few ridiculous questions. So I decided to do a little research. I did look up customer complaints and like many others was unaware of the complaints on this site.

Now, I am very wary of what I can expect in the coming weeks. I do have an extended warranty with Sam's Club and maybe that will help when it starts. Overall, I am very displeased with the frailty of this TV. There was a 42" Sony right next to the 50" Vizio that I bought for roughly the same price. I wish I had bought the Sony and not been so interested in the size but should have remained focus on the quality. Overall, after many hours of post breakdown research, I have read very few good responses to Vizio customer care or repair. I do feel strongly about supporting American made products however. When it is a scam to make money, I begin to see why it is so important to be biased in the research process.

We bought a 32" Vizio TV, and after a year, the screen starts turning green. I disconnected the power and reconnected, and for a minute or two, the problem went away, but it comes back. I have tried to contact Vizio, but no luck on getting any help from them. I checked the website for answers and even posted my answers on fix ya. My brother-in-law bought the same model about a month before me, and his TV started automatically shutting itself off. He just turns it back on. He makes jokes that it's his wife in Mexico checking up on him, but reality is, that his TV has started acting up, too. I believe the problem will escalate soon. My job has slowed down and I cannot afford to buy a new TV or pay for the repair. My loss will be about $800.00 and the time I will be out without a TV until I can afford a new one.

I have a Vizio vx32l. I have not had this tv for a year. I wached a football game on it on 12/14/2008 and it worked fine. I turned it on on 12/16/2008 and all I got was a blue screen. I tried to shut it off with the off button and it would not shut off. I tried the vol, menu, and channel select on the tv and the remote, NOTHING, so I pulled the power cord to shut it off. I tried it several times and the same thing. I got right on the phone with vizio and it seemed like all they wanted to do is get me off the phone. I got a case number but big deal. I wasn't getting anywhere. I wrote them a e-mail on my feelings of how I feel they screwed me for 700.00. I got no where so I reported them to the Better Business Bureau.
