I bought a 42" Vizio TV two years ago and when I turned it on today, it made some kind of "pop" sound and that's all she wrote. There is sound but no more picture and from what I've read, it sounds like I'm out of luck and now need to purchase a new TV. I'll make sure to stay away from Vizio this time.

I purchased a Vizio, and less than 6 months later, there is a white line running down one side. And just today, a dark line formed and is running right down the middle of the TV. I called and have gotten the same run-around about sending pictures in and proving it. What is the point of a warranty if you can't just replace the product and the store you purchased it at? The store, evil entity I usually don't shop at, Walmart refused to take it back even with a receipt. Since when is that the law? What is the law? How do we start a class action law suit to get our $500+ back? Not to mention I paid for the extended warranty that should be good for at least 3 years you would think. Everyone is right. Do not buy Vizio or LG products.

My TV VIZIO TV failed on day 372 of ownership but VIZIO only offered to provide addresses of where I could send the TV for repair. We should have sent it in about 60 days earlier when the HDMI input 1 failed and we began using input 2, or when the sound became hard to get the TV loud enough to hear. If you have a VIZIO, I regret your purchase, but if you can, get an extended warranty and get the service at the first sign of an issue. These VIZIO products are a conglomeration of other manufacturers parts, mixed and match together. If you undertake the repair, you will discover that they are assembled with parts from many sources.

My JIVE 50" Vizio Flat Screen is a piece of junk. The sound does not work unless you turn off/on TV several times. Sometimes the unit pops and screen goes black but is still on. I have a 1 year, warranty for a 2007 unit.

My television stopped working 2 times within the 2 1/2 years after I purchased it. I actually used my warranty once and they fixed 1 problem during the warranty period. The latest problem "black screen of death" occurred 6 months after the warranty period and Vizio told me they would not do anything for me. I have read several similar complaints since having this problem myself.
I am out of a television. I do not have an extra $800 to buy a television every 2 1/2 years. Vizio needs to do something about this issue.

I have a Vizio 42” that is two years old and apparently have a blown power supply. After reading several forums, I realize that this is an ongoing problem that needs to be resolved. The TV was $1000 and I think it should last longer than two years. Repair is estimated to be around $500.

I purchased the HDTV around Dec 2007. This particular TV was manufactured in Feb 2007, with serial number LSPABAH0737584. While watching the TV, it popped and then a black screen appeared. This TV was in bedroom and seldom used and is less than 3 years old. After spending several hundred dollars, I'm extremely **** off. Vizio has made it clear. As it's out of warranty, they are not going to fix or stand behind their product. I will not buy Vizio again ever.

From the amount of complaints for the same issue of same company, we do need to file a class action law suite. It's the only way this we get fixed and just maybe we can recover some of our money. The second thing we need to do is get this out on the net to as many people as possible. Let's hurt Visio through the power of bad advertising.

I purchased 42" Plasma Vizio TV Model Number P42HDTV10A and Serial Number AHPFABAG190308I from Costco on 7/14/2006 for $1499.99 which comes with one year manufacturer warranty and one year additional Costco warranty.
On 10/17/10 while watching the news, the TV made a pop of death sound and the picture disappeared and the screen turned black while the audio was still working. I contacted Vizio online and explained the issue and they sent me an email stating to look at FAQ on their site and case closed (incident # 101017-000216). I called Costco on 10/18/10 to see my options. Costco put me on the Phone with Vizio customer service who told me since I am out of warranty I have to call a service provider they recommend and they gave two companies to contact. I did some research online to see the extent of this issue. When I typed Vizio TV no picture, tens of links and forums were discussing the same problem.
I realized that the issue is a nationwide with TV's manufactured around 2006 and many American families are losing their TV within 2-4 years of purchase from Vizio. I replied to the Vizio e-mail stating my finding and based on my search an element related to the power cord gets overheated and cause the pop of death sound as a safety relay to prevent further damage to the unit. It seems like a malfunction of the power board and may qualify for a recall. Of course nobody cares from Costco or Vizio.
We do not purchase TV with a limited life or expiration date. It's a major investment for most of hard working American families. My last TV lasted 15 years and was still working. I do not think Costco or Vizio stand behind their products.

For the first time, our now 3-year old 47" LCD (under warranty), went bad, the fellow replaced the entire main board which apparently has other boards on it. He said it was less trouble to just replace the entire main board. Today, its second failing, no longer under extended warranty (which we paid extra for of course), the technician said four boards were bad. Vizio complaint department offered free parts, but we would have to pay for service (over and above the $100 we paid the guy to come up and look at it). Why should we pay a dime towards a TV which is guaranteed to break down again? We're out the money, we spend on the TV (close to $2,000), the extended warranty $124), the technician who was just here ($105).

I called Vizio, and they referred me to repair, and they want $400.00 to come out and fix, a flat rate, regardless of what is wrong. Absolutely horrible. I won't buy from this company again! I bought this at Sam's Club, and had read the reviews on Consumer Reports prior to buying this. It was recommended then.

After about a year of ownership of a VIZIO GV42L HDTV 42" (purchased for $1,200), the screen would go black, but sound would still work. This could be corrected by manually turning the set on and off a number of times (usually 1-2), where the screen would come on and stay one. Really annoying, as there is generally a delay between pressing the on/off buttons and action on the TV. So this would waste 1-2 min of my time every time I wanted to use the set.
Put up with this for about a year, when I get the pop of death, and was watching a program on the set when the picture shrank down to a tiny dot and "poof" went completely black. I tried to power the set back up many times, to no avail. I tried the power reset with the remote, to no avail. No indication that any power is reaching the TV. I have now joined this sorry club of VIZIO owners. I bought it at COSTCO and will attempt to return it for some form of remuneration. Hopefully, COSTCO will stand up and deal with products it is selling.

I think all flat screen TV's have issues, both my 47" and 32" HDTV have the black screen of death, they are both less then a year old and both regardless if connected to Comcast or plugged directly into the coax cable, I have the same issue. Sometimes I get sound and no picture. I will be watching the TV and the picture will go black. My concern is the American public is being taken advantage of and are led to believe these TVs will last a heck of a lot longer than a year. I have a Sharp 32" regular TV, no HDTV, just a heavy sucker, but have never had any issues in 5 years with the picture.
I also have a 55" rear projection Mitsubishi TV for 10 years, not one issue. I had replaced a 37" Vizio I got a couple of years back for the same problem, but I now realize it is not the power running in the house or the cable box, it is a problem all brands are having with flat screen HDTVs. What can be done to stop this from happening? We are talking thousands of dollars in fraud. Congress really need to look into this rip off of the public when it comes to these TVs.

This is about the same complaints many other consumers experienced. Obviously, Vizio is aware of this problem and continue to make cheap TV with same not durable parts. My old Toshiba lasted 22 years, Vizio lasted less than 3 years. To get it repaired, I probably better off to buy a brand new Toshiba!
It costs me several hundreds for the TV that only lasted less than 3 years, this could be part of the savings that I can put away for my retirement! I bought the Vizio TV in 2006. I left for work one day, and let my son play the PS2 on it. The TV gave us no problems before I let him play on it. Well, when I got home, I wanted to watch TV. So I switched it to the TV input, and nothing. So I went into the menu and checked it out. I did a channel scan and guess what? The digital tuner was the problem.
It went out. I had no idea what happened to it, but it did. So far, Vizio says there is nothing they can do about it. I tried pretty much everything to no avail. Sorry to those people whose TVs have died, but thankfully mine hasn't done that yet. Now, the remote won't change the channels. I even tried searching for Firmware updates on the Vizio site, but my model number isn't even on their list of products. Hmm, that brought up some questions. Why would the model number not be in the product list, but it is in the register your product list. The model number is Vizio L42HDTV10A. I'll just say this, what happened to Vizio? We bought a new 47" Vizio TV from Costless Outlet in February of 2010. This past week end (10-2-10), the TV made a loud pop noise. The screen went black and the sound went out as well. I got out my manual and it said I had one year warranty on it. I called the number and they walked me through a few tests to try to "determine if I needed a technician for repair or a new TV." Also, they asked that I email my receipt to photos@vizio.com.
I sent the receipt and they emailed back that it was invalid, please send again. I enlarged and darkened it and resent. Now they are saying they will not honor warranty because I did not buy it from an "authorized seller." Doesn't the warranty always come from the manufacturer? I would never think to ask if a store is authorized to sell before I buy something brand new and still in a box! They are refusing to fix the TV and now I have a 47" TV on my wall in the living room that is barely 8 months old and worthless. I see many complaints similar to mine. I purchased a Vizio LCD TV in 2008. There are abnormal patterns on the TV and then it goes fuzzy and eventually goes to black in a matter of 1-2 minutes. You have to turn off the TV and then turn it back on in order to attempt to get a picture. I paid $950 for the television and it was defective within 2 years. That is completely unacceptable based on the statements that are listed on Vizio's website. The cable company has made 5 visits to my house over the past 6 months and they have assured me that the problem is not with the connection or the cable lines. Based on this experience, I will never purchase a product from Vizio again.
The main reason is not because of the TV; it is because I had to jump through hoops to speak to someone who could help me. At one point, one representative was very rude and loud with me. Another time, a manager failed to call me back in 48 hours as he had promised me. This all added to my grief and frustration. Finally, I received a call from Sabrina **, who tried her best to help me, but the people who work above her did not gain my trust or relieve my frustration. I felt cheated by Vizio. Not only did I spend $950 on a TV that doesn;t work properly, I also cannot sell it to get back some of the money due to its defective condition.
Since corporate Vizio could not accommodate me, as I stated to them in an email, I am writing a complaint about all I went through in the past 6 weeks with this new company. One corporate rep, Sabrina ** was able to talk to her colleagues and offer me a refurbished TV, but I declined because I could purchase a brand new one in the stores for the same price! Therefore, by not putting the customer first, Vizio has lost a customer and I will share my experiences with others as well. I don't want others to go through what I did. I am out of $950 and have a defective product. I am emotionally drained from all the calls and letters because I wasn't receiving any response.

There was no indication that the unit was receiving power. He then instructed me hold down the power button and the input button.
This did not work either. I asked him if there are others who are experiencing the same thing and he said yes. He informed me that he thought it was a defect and proceeded to tell me that I would have to call it in for repair. He gave me numbers for two repair shops. I asked if this is a defect, then why should I, as the consumer, be responsible for the repair. He told me that this is how he was instructed to handle the issue with customers. I took it back to Wal-Mart and got a different model. One week before the years warranty ran out, TV number 2 got a green line down the middle of it. Vizio gave me a hard time because I had the return receipt and not the purchase receipt.
After thinking I was going to have to kill someone at Wal-Mart, the guy dug around in their computer and got the receipt. OK, TV number 3, Vizio told me someone would be at my house to replace it no matter if it was hanging on the wall. The guys came and refused to help us. My wife told them they weren't getting out of the house without doing the job we were promised. After a short story about spinal fusion, they agreed to help.
TV number 3 lasted about 120 days and it was an upgraded model. First, it decided it didn't like the remotes to be used with it. I called Vizio and they told me that this new TV was only covered for 90 days and since my first TV was a year old when it crashed and they gave me 90 days on this on that I had way over what they give anyway. A couple days later, the TV stated liking remotes again. It's been about a year since.
Recently, I came in the room to find the little yellow power light out. I've unplugged it and plugged it back up and the light still doesn't come back on. I even tried holding the power button like someone on here already said to try and it didn't help. I will never buy anything Vizio again for that matter. I purchased a Vizio VT420M on Jan. 22, 2010. DOA out of the box, there was sound but no picture. I returned the TV that same evening and received another VT420M. On July 2010, 6 months later, intermittent sound with no picture! I emailed Vizio, they told me to do a reset (unplug the TV, hold on/off button for 60 seconds, plug the TV back in). Still intermittent sound and no picture. September 2010, now the TV has no picture at all, just sound. I called Vizio, after troubleshooting, they confirmed something is wrong with the TV. Vizio told me that HD Repair will be fixing the TV. HD Repair called the next day and confirmed that they will be repairing the TV in 3-5 business days.
5 business days later, still no call from HD Repair so I called them. They told me that the part is on backorder and they have no idea how long it will take! I called Vizio to complain and they pretty much said "sorry for your luck, the part is on backorder" and I will just have to wait. I told them this is absolutely unacceptable. I paid $800.00 for a TV that now, after 7 months, is a useless black box in my living room and they have no idea when it will be repaired. Mine suffered this same ailment today and the set is less than two years old. Since I saw one post that Costco, where she purchased it, helped to gain a replacement from Vizio, I will try on Monday to see if it may also work for me. If anyone has information regarding a class action lawsuit, I hope you will post it on this site or get the word out somehow as this is such a crime for a US company to be so remiss in doing the right thing. Our Vizio 32" model number E32VA has out-of-the-box defects. Red flag should have been the sale price at $299.00 at Costco. Problem is that when you're watching TV, the sound after time gets distorted and shuts off (no sound). If you change the channel, the sound is restored. I'm not going to change the channel every time the sound acts up. It is not a single unit problem, as I bought two, yes two 32" TVs and yes, both have the same problem. Then I tried to power it off and it wouldn't cut off. I had to physically unplug the TV from the wall. I plugged it back in and turned the TV on and all I have is black screen with white bars. It seems to me we have a problem and I smell class action lawsuit!
I have contacted Customer Service and all they say is they never heard of this problem and, "You're out of warranty, there's nothing we can do about it". I even supposedly was talking to the highest manager named JB and he actually laughed at me! Some customer service they have, huh? On Aug. 19, 2010, I purchased from this store a Vizio TV and also an HP Laptop, totally about $1230.00. When getting home and hooking up the TV in the next couple of days, I found out the remote did not work. It would not even turn the TV on or anything. I put new batteries in to no avail. The next day, I returned the remote to the store requesting a new one. The manager was really arrogant and told me all he could do was give me an all-in-one remote instead of one which is supposed to be for that brand of TV. I tried to tell him I don't want all the extra buttons of the all-in-one because I had purchased the TV for my blind and autistic brother. He did not have a VCR, all the other stuff that is controlled by this remote and all the button would be hard for him to use.
The manager then insisted he could not give me a remote from another TV. I told him I did not understand why not since the manufacturer would replace it for him. By this time, I was so aggravated by his attitude that I told him I would bring the whole TV back for a refund. He then sarcastically said "do you want me to go get you another one?". I told him no, that I should not have to argue with him to have an item taken care of which I had a 90-day period to return the defective item to the store. I had also purchased the additional warranty on both items. I am giving them a chance to get me a remote like the one that came in with this TV that works. If not, I will return for refund and I'll make sure that all my friends and family know that Walmart does not take care of its customers. If I had not already downloaded all my stuff on my laptop, it also would be returned for refund. Thanks for your time.

I also have had numerous problems with my Vizio 46-inch LCD TV. Within the first month of purchase, two of the three HDMI ports went bad and had a technician sent by Wal-Mart replace the main board under warranty (still happy). Fifteen months later, the TV started to turn itself on and off, sometimes so rapidly that the cycle just sounds like a buzzing sound. This occurs only after continued use of 3 hours or more. I called Vizio and was told, "Sounds like the back light is bad, no way to repair that model,"
I said you mean a $1,300 TV that less than two years old is junk? They replied, "We're so sorry," finally after conveying how extremely upset about it "unable to be repaired" and "no technicians in your area" response I am hearing. The conversation ended with their support person saying, "I understand, I would be upset too." So do not buy Vizio from Wal-mart unless you hedge your bet with a bullet proof three-year replacement warranty. We purchased a 46" Vizio TV on 6/15/08. It was model # VW46L FHDTV10A. On approximately 6/21/10, the set began to show signs of need for repair. The left half (yes, half!) of the screen began to change color when turned on, and continued for approximately 20-25 minutes in the same condition. Then, the picture appeared to be normal until the set was turned off, and then turned on the next time. The color ranged from light to dark brown from right to left, again the left half of the screen only. This problem happens every time the set is turned on.
We contacted the tech support service by email and then by phone, after we tried their proposed "power cycle" they forwarded in an email. When that didn't change anything, a call was placed as requested by them to talk further about the problem. The first thing they said was “You are no longer under warranty.” It’s a surprise how these things seem to have a limited shelf life nowadays. The tech explained it was the "main board" and we needed to contact a repair service to schedule repairs at 100% cost to us. That’s another surprise!
The final straw came when I asked if this was a common problem and the tech responded that it had been reported to her in the past from other consumers. Really brave now, I asked if there was a consumer recall to address this problem. This camel’s back was broken and any consumer brand confidence I had was now gone for Vizio. So "buyer, beware" for those who are considering to purchase a Vizio product. Oh yeah, one final thing, the picture has gone from bad to worse since I started corresponding with Vizio. Now the figures under the brown left half of the screen turn into big blurs as they move on the screen.

He also said he has been called to repair a lot of Vizios. I contacted Vizio and was told by customer support, “Sorry, we can't do anything about it.” They are in competition with Sony. I bought this TV(VA26LHDTV10T-26 in. ) on April 20 2010 from Dell. It came with a one-year warranty from Vizio. I also bought a two-year extended warranty from Dell. It was easy to get the TV up and running and the picture was great. In July 2010, vertical colored lines (red, blue, green, white and black) started appearing when the set was first turned on. After about 10-15 minutes, the lines would fade and the picture was fine again. I called Vizio tech support. I was instructed to turn the set off and hold the on button for 45 seconds to reset the TV.
The lines were still there. I was then instructed to take 3 or 4 digital pictures of different channels on the TV when the lines were present and email them to Vizio along with a copy of the sales receipt, which I did. Two weeks later Vizio called me. The tech rep asked me a lot of questions about the lines, if I had a game console or DVD player hooked up to the TV, and whether I had cable or satellite dish hooked up to the TV. My answer was no to all these questions. I told the tech rep that the only thing hooked up to the TV was a digital TV antenna.
He then said to send a copy of the sales receipt in order to get a repair number. I told him I already sent the copy of my receipt as a pdf file attachment in my first email to Vizio, and he said OK, and that someone would contact me and give me a repair number and instructions on how to return the TV to Vizio. After a week, I called Vizio again and asked why no one had gotten back to me with the repair number. I was told they were waiting for the sales receipt. So I sent a copy of the sales receipt again while I had the tech rep on the phone and he verified that Vizio had gotten it.
He then gave me a repair number and told me to send the TV back to Vizio, but that I would have to pay the shipping costs. I asked why I had to pay to ship back a broken TV and was told that this was Vizio's return policy. I said this was really unfair; he said that this was the policy, but that Vizio would pay to ship the TV back to me. So I shipped the TV to Vizio: shipping costs, $50.72. This makes the nice deal I got from Dell in the first place no deal at all. Plus, after reading some of the many complaints about Vizio on this web-site, I am not very optimistic about getting my TV fixed right the first time around. This company sucks.
They should stand behind their product and do everything to help their customer when something goes wrong. Instead, you get a runaround and you have to pay. I went on Vizio's web-site, found my TV model, and left a negative review. There were 43 glowing reviews of this TV and not one bad review. Needless to say, my review had yet to show up. What a joke of a company Vizio is. I would never but a Vizio product again.

We received our TV on 7/12. Before we received the TV, I read over the special instructions for a refurbished TV. I inspected the box and accepted the TV. I automatically set it up as I had only 14 days to file a complaint if there was anything wrong. They sent me the wrong cord for the TV. Called Ecost.com about this issue was told we would receive an e-mail regarding this issue. Four days went by so I sent an e-mail thru the website. Thankfully we had other Vizio TV so I was able to use another plug.
The same day we received the TV. it started flashing and I figured it had something to do with the cable. I went on the e-cost web site and under special instructions for TV's it stated that if a problem occurs to contact the manufacturer. I took this to mean Vizio so I called them and I told them problem and they said if it persists to call them back. Well i ran into other problems with the TV. No sound. Vizio tech support was able to correct that problem, but the screen problem still existed. I was told by Vizio that they service 47" TVs on site.
When e-cost contacted me regarding the wrong cord I told them about the problem I was having with the tv and they asked if I wanted a return authorization number to send the tv back to the refurbish center. I would have to pay for shipping it back! I told them that Vizio would service it in house and they were shocked. I told them that I would contact Vizio to see if the info I had was correct and I found on their website that they do service refurbished TV's as long as they were purchased from an authorized reseller. I thought I was fine. About two weeks passed and my problem was tolerable.
Well on a warm Saturday afternoon no matter what I did, (when the problem occurred I would turn the TV off and back on and it would correct itself.) this particular day that didn't work so I called Vizio tech support and told I needed to schedule service. They told me to turn the TV off, unplug it and hold the on button for a minute. It worked for a day and the problem was back the next day. I called them back and they told me that I would have to send them my purchase receipt. They didn't tell me that they were certain info that this receipt would have to include. They told me to call back on Monday to see if the receipt had been received and approved for service. I was told that the dept that handled this was behind to live with the problem til the end of the week. I did.
I called on Sunday 8/15 and was told by Scott that I hadn't provided them with the purchase date. I was not happy! So I was told by Scott to take a picture of the packing slip and send it to them by way of e-mail so I did. On Monday 8/16 I had access to a scanner so I sent all the required info again so that everything would be together. At approx 5 on Monday 8/16, I received a call from Darren and he informed me that this TV did not have a warranty that Ecost was a the third party and they purchased the items from Wal-Mart as part of a liquidation and that the item was sold as is. I knew that this was not true so I contacted the refurbish center and was told that the item only had a 30 day warranty. Again I was not happy! So I got on the phone with a live person named Renee and she stated that a return authorization would be sent to me first thing Tuesday morning. Also that I would have to pay for shipping.
On Tuesday 8/17, I went looking for a a smaller box, due to the fact the packing box got damaged during the storms we received on Monday so I needed to get something to send it back. Well I went to the UPS store and told them what I was looking for and they told they had a box and that the price of the box and the shipping would be around $200. Again, I am not happy. At this point I decided I would investigate what it would cost to have the unit serviced in house. I called vVizio and asked them for a name of an authorized service provider and they did. I called the repair place and got a price. I was smart and purchased a square trade warranty so I called them to tell my dilemma and they told me that they would prefer the refurbish center service the TV but they would reimburse me for the cost of shipping. Kristen at Square Trade made my day.
Later Tuesday night, I contacted Renee at the refurbish center to make sure I didn't misunderstand her and that the return authorization was not coming to me by way of mail. She stated that I would receive it by Wednesday morning by way of e-mail. As of 12:14pm on Wednesday 8/18 still no RA. On Tuesday night we received the follow up info about the warranty and I was authorized to get the service done in house and made a call to schedule that service. I am still waiting to hear from a service tech. I have invested over $2500 in Vizio TV because they were reasonable and they came from a us company. I have 2 brand new TVs that I have never had a problem with. I purchased another 26" refurbished TV and again no problems. I don't know maybe as they get larger the more problems you have.
We never would have bought this TV if we knew it came from Wal-Mart! Any company that tells their employees how to vote is not worth giving my business to. This has been a very stressful situation and I could have to buy a brand new TV because this one is a lemon! I am covered up to the price of the TV, $620 but it will result in me paying my contractor extra to come back and mount the TV.

It only cost $500 new.

In November 2009, I purchased a VIZIO 42" TV. On June of 2010, I purchased a wall mounting to hang my TV on my wall. When I hung my TV, I noticed that the inside mounting on the back of my TV had let go on the top right hand corner. I approached Wal-Mart but to no response, they told me to contact the company of Vizio.
I also purchased an extended 2-year warranty. I spoke with a rep from the company, and he told me that he would send me a voucher and also 1 to Wal-Mart in Carbonear to have the TV replaced.
Today, August 3rd. I contacted the company again, and they told me that they could do nothing to help me in this matter. As I told them, there's nothing wrong with the TV other than the internal bracket. Then the lady tells me that this particular part isn't covered by a warranty. I feel that they are trying to avoid the matter because I am unable to find my receipt.
The only way for me to do so is to contact my bank branch office and get a statement on the exact date of purchase, which I feel is a [wrong]. Both Wal-Mart and the Vizio company are aware of the date purchased, but because of my misplacing my receipt, they are trying to avoid replacing the TV for me.

I turned off the TV and moved it to another room. It was not jostled or mishandled in anyway and then it was covered because we remodeled that room. I placed the TV back on stand after being off for two weeks and no picture will come up. I have had this TV for 16 months. It is a 42-inch Vizio TV. I also have a friend that purchased one and it had the same problem which I am guessing there could be a defect in the TV, it was the same size and same make. We purchased from two different companies.
I called Vizio and spoke to two customer service representatives. The second one was 350 and they transferred me to customer service manager who told me this was out of warranty. I explained it had to be a defect because my friend’s that bought the same TV had the same problem I have had and they purchased it from a different company. They told me that they couldn't fix it. My case number is 1151371 and I want my TV fixed or replaced. It is a 42-inch TV that I paid for $742.00 dollars and it was a defect that they knew about and sold it without fixing it. I believe that. Thanks.

Vizio Pop of Death. We purchased a Vizio 47" LCD in November 2007. I had it 2 years and 8 months when its screen went blank, etc., just like everyone else. I did the reset thing with Costco and Vizio by phone. No help, out of warranty, etc. The difference is I got money from Costco! I paid around $1,400 plus tax new. Costco gave me over $800 on a gift card 2 weeks ago. I went to the local Costco. I asked 3 sales guys who the TV pro was. They all said how could they help. I said, "Why are Vizio TV's so bad? One guy got mad and left; one guy stood and said nothing; the 3rd guy asked me questions and suggested I go to the store’s Customer Service counter.
The next day, I went in with the purchase receipt, printouts (8 pages or so) about the "Vizio pop of death" from this site and others with the Vizio pop of death highlighted in pink. I explained that I buy my electronics from Costco and when I do, I expect to get a quality product, not a $1,400+ TV that has its own term for failure. And there are thousands of posts about the same problem. I even told them about the YouTube video where the guy breaks his with a lacrosse ball. The Customer Service lead was understanding and went to the Warehouse Manager (took my paperwork with him). Ten minutes later, he was back telling me the best they could do was to give me the cost of a medium range 47" Vizio LCD on a gift card ($800+). I said done deal and thanks. I bought a Sony from Costco 3 days later. Love it.
I talked to the Customer Service lead a few days ago. He told me because I had done everything on my end, made the calls, etc., and because I had it all documented they (him and the Warehouse Manager) felt they had to do something for me. I work in sales and over the last couple of weeks, I've probably told well over 100 people my story. Vizio looks bad and Costco came out looking great. Try going to Costco in person. You have nothing to lose. Also, I talked to a lawyer. He is looking into a class action suit. Good Luck!

We purchased a 50' Vizio Plasma with surround sound package in November 2008 from Costco. On July 15th,the picture went blank but we have sound. We have basically been given the run around from Visio with Costco not being helpful either. Every single person that we have spoken with has a new and different story to give you, with no answers! For example, just today I spent 2 1/2 hours on the phone speaking with the Costco Concierge Maria, and a 3 way call talking with Vizio starting at level 2. Andrew, the Vizio rep gave different answers than the 6 previous customer service reps. I kept asking to speak to the highest level person to get accurate information until finally it went to someone named Annie ( level 3, because you have to go up the chain, according to Andrew), who by the way told yet a different story, put us on hold and never came back after asking to speak to the next person up the chain.
Maria the Costco Concierge rep. then took about 20 minutes to get someone to answer at Vizio again. Maria was supposedly told by Annie (I was on hold) that she talked to someone in corporate that stated nothing could be done about our problem, but she was going to email corporate and ask again. (Does that make any sense?) I then asked Maria to speak to her supervisor and was given to "Tim" who stated that he would get back in touch with Vizio and get a final answer and verified with me that we wanted our money back . Tim had me on hold throughout his conversation with a level 2 ( back at square 1) at Vizio and was given yet another story. Tim accepted this answer from the level 2 without going "higher" up the chain as he had stated to me that he would be doing.
Although the Costco Concierge Service has excellent notes taken on our case, Tim failed to take into consideration everything that had already taken place by notes or verbally from me and failed to get any new information! Tim did not even find out if we could just have our money back! Tim was no help at all, it was a total waste of time!! I then asked to speak with whomever was above him and was put on the phone with Jessica. When I asked Jessica exactly who she was, I was told that she is 1 of the Team Managers.
However, Jessica has stated that she has special connections through email to be in touch with corporate and Manufacturing Companies, but cannot call anyone. Jessica says she will give me a update tomorrow. We just want our money back! We will never purchase any large items through Costco again and will never own anything that has any type of connection with the Vizio company! Reading all of the complaints just on this consumer affairs site, topped off my day. Why isn't anyone doing something about Vizio? Where is a class action lawsuit?

I called Vizio. They suggested I shut it, unplug it, press a button then plug it back in and put it on. Didn't work! Reading all these complaints, I see that this is their protocol before they finally tell you their is nothing they can do and I would have to pay $85 to have someone look at it to let me know what needed to be fixed and give an estimate as to the cost. They were no help at all!
I called them again after reading this site couldn't believe the tons of complaints that show people with the same problem. I told them they should at least cover the $85 since the TV was less than three yrs. I asked if this was a common problem and the woman said no this is the first time she heard of this problem. I told her that is unbelievable considering I am on a site which shows 41 pages of complaints. She said they (Vizio) are unaware of the problems. I even provided them with the website address and I told her to go to this page and they would see all the complaints with all the same problem. Vizio needs to step up to the plate and look into this matter and help us out. At least send a repair man at no charge to give the option to fix it or buy new brand. They have no problem with taking our money. I, all my family and friends will never buy Vizio again! I called Vizio Technical Service, was asked to unplug the TV, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then plug it back on, press the power button to turn the TV on and observe from the heat vent at the top of the TV to see if there were any blue or white lights. There was a white greenish light seen, but we were told that the back light was out, told by one on call technical support.
We then observed that if we turn the TV on with remote control, the set actually flashed once, then went black again. Another on-call technical support said that if a light was seen from the vent, then the back light was not out. Totally different weigh-ins there. Like many other customers experienced, we were told that that was as fast they could go. We would have to go to a local repair shop to fix it at our own cost because it was out of warranty period.

He had me unplug the power, hold the on/off button in for 30 seconds, release the button plug power back in, but still no picture. That was the extent of the support on the unit other than he gave me a couple of repair shop phone numbers to call for repair. Personally, I don't think it's fair that I should have to pay to have an item repaired that the manufacturer should either repair or replace with a higher quality, safe unit.
Apparently, they know there are serious problems with this TV. I told him that I couldn't believe a TV, only 1 year old, would quit working. He told me that new electronics like cell phones, computers, etc. all have glitches or bugs. We all know that that statement is a lie. No one would knowingly buy any product that is going to fail after a year. I realize software companies sell beta types of software, but hardware or consumer electronics are never sold intentionally with bugs or safety related problems.
Searching the internet, I found that there are many problems with this unit, some deal with power supply electrolytic capacitors that literally explode (fire hazard potential) and poor quality, cheap components used during manufacturing, poor soldering, etc. I would suggest anyone that has this TV failed to contact their State's Attorney General's office/consumer affairs division and their respective Better Business Bureau. The reason is obvious and not meant to cause Vizio any harm but rather bring attention to consumers that this TV has a high failure rate and a possibility of becoming a fire hazard. I believe the average life expectancy of a TV to be at least 5 years. This TV lasted about 18 months with limited use, maybe 40 hours a week.

This was put into service in December of 2009. This lasted until 06/23/2010, until it went black, but still have sound. They said it is out of warranty. They do not want to return my calls! I had lost the receipt, but knew it was not yet 2 years old since we moved, just under 2 years ago. Fortunately, I bought my TV from Costco which gives a 2 year warranty. I called Costco and they looked up my purchase date, time, model number and store from which I made the purchase. They then gave me a number for their concierge service. I talked with Sherilyn from Costco, who took all information from me and had me plug and unplug the TV. Then she called VIZIO (with me on the phone and we had a three way conference call). With Sherilyn's help, VIZIO agreed to a full replacement. They are sending a replacement and a tech to install it. I will definitely buy all my electronics from Costco in the future!

We had the same problem as the other complaints listed. We purchased a Vizio (an LG company) and 1 year and 9 months later, my son pushed the power button. The TV made a popping sound and the screen was blank with no sound. Apparently, after researching the internet, this has been dubbed the "pop of death". This television was in our extra room and was rarely used, probably on average twice a week and many weeks not at all.
After contacting Vizio by phone with no resolution, we complained via e-mail to which they responded with some generic form e-mail that they send to everyone that complains. I then responded to the fact that this issue deserved more than a form e-mail. They responded with telephone numbers of repair technicians in our area. It’s pretty lame for a $1,000 electronic product to last less than 2 years. We have a Sanyo tube TV that is 11 years old and counting. Any time I see someone looking at TVs in Wal-Mart, I tell them not to buy Vizio or LG.

After only about five months, the picture goes completely out--nothing but audio. We call Sears and they tell us they will have to have a technician call us because they don't service TVs. I am told they will contact us within 48 hours. Four days later we speak to a technician who is very courteous and tells us that he has already ordered the part. I'm thinking, how can you order a part when you haven't even looked at the TV? According to the technician, this happens all the time and Vizio is one of the absolute worse brands you can purchase.
Mostly everything they use comes from China. After waiting over three weeks for the part, I decide to call Vizio and tell them my problem and express my frustration with not only having a TV that has no picture after being played for literally hours but also my concern of it happening again. With the delay of getting the part, most likely I will be out of the warranty period. I spoke with Mike, a supervisor at Vizio. He was rude and very unsympathetic. He told me that I should consider purchasing an extended warranty! You gotta be kidding me.
Vizio won't get any more of my money. Vizio has a lot of complaints and it seems as if everyone has been treated the same way I have. I doubt they get many repeat customers. They certainly won't get any more of my business. I think it is very unfortunate that America allows companies to come in and sell a cheap, crappy product and cheat hard-working Americans out of their money. We have had our big screen TV (which is another brand) for 13 years and it hardly ever cuts off. The picture is just as good as it was the day we purchased it. I purchased a 32" Plasma 720p HD Vizio television at Walmart approx 1.5 years ago, putting the purchase around Sept of 2008. One day, when I turned the TV set on, it would click on and off about 6 or 7 times. Then finally it would stay on, this continued for approximately 2 weeks and now the TV set will not power on at all! The Vizio emblem that lights up white when powered on and orange when powered off, is no longer lit up at all! This TV was a very big purchase for me because I was laid off from my job shortly after buying it. Now, I can not afford to shell out another $590 for a TV. Vizio had to know about this manufacturing defect! My previous television made by Sony worked perfectly for over 15 years and still works today, as I gave it away to a close friend who had no TV and they are still using it!
I don't understand how an American company could sell a product this bad and offer no support to its consumers. I have contacted customer support and they told me if the warranty was expired, all I could do is have it repaired. Ha! The cost of the repair was so high that I would rather just make due with no TV at all now. It seems as if the cost of the extended warranty is almost exactly the cost of the repair work necessary when it breaks! Ridiculous scam artists!
It seems like Vizio is aware that their products will break down or become defective in a little over a year! After reading a lot of internet reviews on this subject, there are just way too many people who had their TV's become defective right after the warranty expired. I feel that Vizio knows the TV will operate properly for about 1 year and then break. In my opinion, what they are doing is a scam! I would never ever buy any Vizio product ever again and warn anyone who asks me about what TV they should buy! I love to buy American brands, but now I will have to save up a lot of money and pinch my pennies to buy a Japanese product. Shame on you Vizio!
For starters, I am out over $590 for the purchase of the TV! Now, I have no TV and am locked into a cable package that is costing me over $1,000 a year. I have paid for an HD cable box and HDTV service. I was laid off from my engineering firm shortly after buying this TV and cannot afford another! And you would have to include the hundreds and hundreds of dollars I will have to spend on a new TV, when I can finally pinch enough pennies to afford one. In total, I am out well over $1,500. It has made me lose faith in American products and is infuriating and depressing. I am a very upset, angry, and sad consumer right now.

On May 25, 2010, I ordered a refurbished 37" Vizio television from TigerDirect.com, which was delivered two days later. Upon setting the TV up, there was a large (4" x 6") bright spot at the top center edge of the screen, indicative of the backlight bleeding through the LCD screen. I reviewed the warranty documentation included with the device, which indicated a 90-day warranty with in-home repair for all devices over 30" offered by Vizio. I subsequently contacted Vizio to report the issue and moved toward a resolution.
I complied with all of their demands, including copies of my sales receipt and multiple photographs of the issue. After submitting the documentation to them, I didn't hear back for 4 more days. After 4 business days, I re-contacted Vizio Support to check on the status of my ticket, and I was informed that no action had been taken. After speaking to the support rep, I was informed that they would schedule a repair technician to my home today (6/9/2010) to repair the TV.
When the appointment date came and went without any repair being performed, I contacted Vizio again, which promptly informed me that the repair ticket had been cancelled by a supervisor, without bothering to contact me. When I inquired as to why the ticket was cancelled, the support rep could not offer an explanation. So I requested to be escalated to a supervisor.
Upon speaking to the supervisor, I was informed that Vizio had no intention whatsoever of honoring their warranty and tried to claim that the behavior this TV exhibits was considered within the range of normal tolerance, and therefore, it was not eligible for repair. Basically, I was told "Tough luck, kid. Thanks for the money. Now get outta here."
Naturally, I'm somewhat frustrated by this turn of events, having paid over $500 for a television set that not only had allegedly been "re-certified to original factory standards," only to have it arrive in a defective state and subsequently learn that the manufacturer does not honor their written warranty.
Based on my experience, I will never again purchase a Vizio product, and I strongly urge others to follow suit. There are many more reputable manufacturers available, and no TV is worth this level of hassle. I have been dealing with Vizio and Walmart since then. Stupid me for not keeping my receipt, but I did purchase the extended warranty. The lady at Walmart told me I would be getting paperwork in the mail for the extended warranty. Months went by and I initially forgot to even look for any, until I needed it. This is when I was informed that there is a phone number on the receipt to call and register your warranty. Just today, I finally got somewhere.
I had a very nice girl at Vizio that helped me deal with Walmart today. I was informed through the warranty center that a technician would be coming out tomorrow to repair the television. I spoke with the technician and he informed me that there is nothing he can do. The part costs more than the TV so one of two things would happen--either the warranty center will ask me to return the product to a store and will then replace it with a comparable unit and refund any difference I paid or the warranty center will just send me a check for what I paid plus taxes and I can discard the unit.
He did inform me that he would call right away after he got off the phone with me and let them know what was wrong. And that it would take anywhere from 1 to 5 days for the warranty center to call me back. But that he would check back with me in 5 days for a follow-up and make sure they had gotten back to me. After contacting customer service, I was told that this model's backlight was unable to be repaired due to the manufacturing design of the TV.
Had I purchased an extended warranty, they could help me but otherwise the help was pretty much "sorry about your luck" and "we can't help you" and the 21 month old, $1300 TV can't be repaired. After seeing 35 pages worth of complaints about Vizio televisions, I will make it my lifelong goal to discourage anyone from ever purchasing a Vizio television. The company does not stand behind their product. They must have realized their design was defective due to the fact that they now produce a model that has a repairable backlight. I purchased my Vizio Plasma HDTV, model # VP322 HDTV10A just about 1.5 years ago. For the past week when I go to turn the set on, it will turn on/off numerous times before finally staying on. Today was different, 5/21/10. When I tried to turn the set on today, nothing happened. I visited Vizio's FAQs site to see if there was anything posted about this problem and found nothing. The set is out of warranty and no extended warranty. The set cost me almost $600. Since the purchase of this Vizio HDTV, I have become disabled and am on a fixed income so I am not able to purchase a new TV, or take this one to have it repaired.
According to a Google search and your Consumer Complaints on Vizio television sets, this is a very common complaint and is a manufacturer defect which Vizio has been aware of since they started manufacturing them. I would like Vizio to do the honorable thing and replace it with a brand new HDTV. My television set prior to this one lasted me 20 years! And since it is now government regulated to go “digital”, I feel that these newer “digital” TV sets should be made with quality and integrity instead of turning a blind eye or trying to pass the fault onto the “End User”. I'm sorry; I just do not see how an overheating issue is an End User issue. It's not; it's a manufacturing defect, period!
I paid nearly $600 for a television set that is now nothing more than a tabletop decoration that doesn't work. Since I purchased the HDTV about 1.5 years ago, I have become disabled and am on a fixed income leaving me absolutely no alternatives for replacement or even repair. I have read on your Consumer Complaint section where others who have had the same issues and myself have had their sets repaired only to have the sets experience the same issues again, which ultimately means that repairing the problem is not the answer. Obviously, there is an issue with overheating, so maybe they need to install some sort of cooling system like they do for PCs that are used for gaming situations. Those types of PCs use a lot of power and resources and are designed with a built-in cooling system. The same should be done for these HDTVs that experience overheating.

I have a Vizio 32" Plasma. When cold at start-up, the unit repeatedly turns itself on and off before finally turning on. It is getting worse. It's less than 2 years old. The point I want to make here is the people ranting about Vizio and what a ** brand they think it is. All of the manufacturers of LCD and plasma including the "quality" names like Panasonic, Sony, Samsung, have issues the same as you with the TVs not lasting very long. Google it yourself, if you don't believe me. I am not happy with what has happened to my Vizio, but we must realize that the problem is with all the manufacturers. We should be ranting about all the makers of these TVs, not single out just one. I bought this TV as a replacement for my 19 year old set that still works fine.

I've had my Vizio 32" LCD flat screen for 2 years. Today, I left it on for an hour while doing other things. I left the room, and when I came back, the television was making a loud scrambled-signal type sound and the picture on the screen was distorted (vertical lines going through the picture). I tried to shut it off with the remote and power button, but it would not power off. Finally, I unplugged it. I haven't been able to turn it on since. The yellow/orange stand-by light is on ("vizio"), but the panel itself will not come on. I've tried holding the power button while plugging in the unit (as someone described below), and this didn't help. This is really very irritating. I've contacted the lawyer. We'll see if he responds.

On April 22, 2010, I clicked on the TV and nothing happened. It wouldn't come on at all. Unreal, it’s not even 2 years old. I decided to search the Internet to see if this TV was defective. I have had this Vizio 32" Plasma for about 15 months. I started to have power on problems about a week ago. I called the support number and spoke to Tech Ray who told me this was an ongoing problem with that set. It gets too hot and causes problems for the power board. He told me that this will only get worse and that I had to have it fixed. He also told me that Vizio was aware of this and they had stopped producing Plasma sets because of the problem. I do not feel this is the right thing for them to do when they know that their product is only good for about a year and a half. I feel I am owed a replacement set. I own 2 other regular TVs and have had them for about 10-15 years and never had a problem. But then again they are Japanese and not American like Vizio.

The TV was scratched on the sides and has damaged to the face and sided. We called Vizio and were given a case # and asked to send pictures to them and a copy of the receipt showing what we paid for the TV. The first time I called Vizio and was told since I had no warranty I would have to pay to get it fixed. But since line disappeared I never called to fix it. Now I called Vizio again and was told that other people who had reported problems similar to mine were told that TV was not fixable and had to be replaced but since I had no warranty I would have to pay to either get it repaired or buy a new one. After only 2 months of having the TV (bought it new from Wal-Mart) the TV screen started going black but the sound remained. Turning the volume button up or down caused the picture to come back on. How wacky is that? It is still a hassle and should not be happening in a brand new TV. We haven't decided whether to take it back or not but it was the least expensive flat screen for the size. We thought Vizio’s were Sony products, so we trusted it. I will definitely not buy another Vizio product after this. We spent $700 on the TV which is a lot for us. We are a family of 7! Won't have money to add to refund amount to get a better one even if we do take it back. At first, my TV started losing sound when playing video games. Then one day, my TV would not turn on. The illuminated Vizio sign in the front of the TV would turn orange and white, and the TV sounded and looked like it's trying to turn on and off. It does this around 20 times automatically before it will cut on.
But today, it never turned back on. I also tried leaving the TV on all night and day, because when I turned it off, it would either not come back on or go through the on and off procedure around 20 times automatically by its self. When the TV finally decided to turn on, I kept it on for two weeks straight. I would just cut the cable converter box on and off so that the dark black screen on the TV would come on instead of the bright blue. I did that for two weeks.
Now the TV will not turn on at all, and the Vizio sign that is usually lighted up is not lit. I brought the TV from Wal-Mart. It's 32-inch plasma. The TV is around three years young! My electric bill had gone up over an extra $100.00 when I had to leave it on for two weeks. When I bought that TV, it cost me over $535.00 that I really could not afford. The TV will power on, only to a deep blue/back screen. There is no sound, remote will not work. Nothing. It will not power off by TV button or remote, I must unplug the unit. I tried keeping it unplugged for over 24 hours, still nothing. I have not taken it to a repairman, but feel it will not be worth it.
From reading other complaints, it sounds like one of the power boards has died and it will be very costly to replace. I feel it is useless to contact Vizio since we have no warranty at this point. If we can find original receipt from 3 years ago, we may contact Sam's club (based on other people's suggestions) but doubt that we'll go anywhere.
