I bought an LED Vizio 42" TV two years ago and got the black screen of death. The repair will cost over $300.00. I will never buy another Vizio product. And I may not buy from Sams again! Buyer, beware! if it says Vizio, buy something else!

I bought a Vizio VF550M LCD HDTV at Walmart in September 2010. It worked fine up until yesterday, when I was hit by the "black screen of death" (the common name for it, I guess, as per scores of internet complaints concerning this problem) appears. The power is still on, but no sound comes forth and all you get is a black screen. I called Vizio and explained it to them. They had me run a few worthless "tests" over the phone and then told me that I should call this company called ITI Repairs to fix it. That I would have to pay for it out of pocket because the set is 14 months old, which is 2 months past the 12-month warranty. I guess this is what we've come to in America nowadays. We spend $1200 on a TV that lasts only 14 months before crapping out and then the company basically tells us, its paying customers/purchasers, to **. I'm not alone here. Others have had the exact same issue!
Let me say this: I'll never, ever buy another Vizio product again as long as I live and I hope others spread the word to avoid this company like the plague!

My husband bought a 47" Vizio LED HDTV from Super Wal-Mart on 5/24/10. He paid over $900.00 for it. Within 15 months, the TV's sound went out. I called Vizio, and asked what the problem could be. They suggested trying a few things. None of their suggestions worked. Then one day, the sound came back on by itself. That only lasted a few days, then the whole TV went out!
I called Vizio again and they suggested a few ideas again, which did not work. Vizio then gave me telephone numbers to a business that repaired Vizio TVs. They wanted to charge almost $400.00 to come and take a look. For the money we paid for Vizio TV, you would think that it would have lasted longer than 15 months. I will never buy Vizio products again, or any electronics from Wal-Mart. Shame on them for taking people's money like that. I think Vizio Company should reimburse customers for their failed products!

I purchased two Vizio TV's; one is used as a computer monitor and the other as a Kitchen TV. I ourchased 14 & 16 months ago. The kitchen TV started to not come on at all, unplugged it for a few days, then tried it again and it worked. Shuts itself off as well. There are many days that it won't come on at all. The TV that I use as a monitor is only 14 months old and just started stinky really bad (which can't be good for you). When turned on, it only takes 10 minutes, then you have to shut it off or leave the room, because you can't stand the stink. I called Vizio and told them that the TV was smelling hot like something was on fire and smells really bad.
I demanded that they recall these TV's, they said they couldn't do that. I also made them aware that if my house were to burn down, I would let my insurance company know that the Vizio TV/monitor was smelling hot like fire and they should go after Vizio and sue them for the damages. They told me not to use it, until I heard something back from them the next day, it's still not resolved more than two days later. How much longer do I have to wait...this is ridiculous! I spent $300+ each and less than two years old and can't use either of them; it's junk!!!
I will never buy another VIZIO ever! Someone should sue them or get them all recalled.

Black screen of death. Yes, I too bought a 50" Plasma Vizio from Sam's Club. It had a beautiful picture and worked great. Now that the extended warranty I paid for just expired, so did the set. Uncanny, how that worked. Now, I'm waiting for a call from Vizio who stated that they will offer to sell me a re-certified television. Well, I already had one replaced 1 year after purchasing it and now this one died. Well, I'm not sure I'm up for this again. What a waste of over $2900 bucks and what do I do with this huge white elephant in my living room now?

I purchased a VA370M 37-Inch Full HD 1080p LCD HDTV on March 14, 2010. Recently, the picture and sound stopped working. I know that the TV is still receiving power because when I hit the power button, the Vizio logo goes from orange to white.
I've recently seen that a lot of other people are having this problem shortly after their year warranty is up, and Vizio isn't doing anything to fix it.

I purchased a Vizio VW26L HDTV a little over a couple years ago. I had many of the complaints about this brand and I have seen that I'm not alone. My TV takes forever to power up and when it does, it has a white screen. It seems to me that there is an issue with their power supplies in the sets. My extended warranty has just passed and I'm getting no support. I am looking to see if there is a recall on their units.
I would hope that my TV would last longer than two years. I will never buy this brand again. There needs to be a recall on their televisions if not, they need to be taken to court to force them to handle their customers.

I bought a Vizio 47" LED HD TV on April 23rd 2010 at Sam's Club. I also bought a two-year extended warranty. On October 10th 2011, the TV began to shut off by itself. There was no picture and no audio. I waited a couple of weeks hoping that the problem would go away. I finally called Sam's and then called the Ins Co. They told me that I would have to wait for them to order the parts needed. Here we are two weeks later and still waiting to have the TV repaired. Judging by what customers are complaining, I think a lawsuit is required.
I can't watch TV and I think that investing $1500 on a TV, that does not work, is not acceptable. I don't put Vizio at fault by itself. I also blame stores such as Sam's, Costco, Walmart, etc as culprits for selling inferior quality merchandise. I encourage people who are having issues with their Vizio TVsI encourage people who are having issues with their Vizio TVs to complain and let friends and families know about it.

I won a 37-inch television last March in a sales contest from work. Because I had a house fire, I did not take it out of the box for about six weeks. Since May, I have continuous problems with it, shutting off or not coming on. I've called the repair department who can't help unless I can tell them where I purchased the TV or show a sales receipt.
The TV shut off for 5 days and I jumped up and down refusing to be put off because I didn't have a sales receipt, the repair department agreed to pay for parts if I paid for labor ($135.00) on a TV I've owned for about 7 months.

I bought a Vizio 47" LCD TV 2.5 years ago at Sam's Club for $900. I had it fixed under a 1 yr. warranty once. It is now in need of repair again. It will stay on for only 10-20 minutes at a time and then there will be a loud pop and a "ghost screen". They're asking $400 to fix it...not likely! I had no help from VIZIO. They will send a repair person for $400 flat rate. No thanks.

I purchased a Vizio 50" Plasma TV in January of 2008 from Walmart for a pretty reasonable price. Until about a month ago (September 2011), I had no issues with the TV and really enjoyed it. It has pretty good picture and sound. The TV has never been moved and stands about 6 feet off the ground so it's had no contact with children or animals at that time.
Last month, upon starting up the TV, I was greeted with sound but no picture. I turned the TV off and turned it back on. This time, I had picture but no sound. I had to turn the TV off and on more than a dozen times to get both picture and sound to work together. In the past month, the problem has gotten significantly worse. Any time the TV is off for more than a few minutes, this problem occurs. Each morning, I now have to power off/on the TV anywhere from 40 to 50 times to get the sound and picture together.
I called Vizio for a resolution to this issue, and while I did buy the extended 2-year service plan on top of the manufacturer's 1-year warranty, Vizio told me that there was nothing they could do. They wanted me to work through an independent contractor to have the TV repaired. When I asked how much that would cost, I was told that it generally is somewhere around $500. $500! I will be purchasing a brand new Panasonic TV for about the same amount of money it would cost to repair the Vizio.

I purchased a 42 inch Vizio tv in December 2010 from Walmart. They told me Vizio offered a 1 year warranty with the tv. So after one month of watching it, the sound kept going in and out, and the tv would shut on and off by itself. Also, it would go dark then lighten up sometimes while we were watching a movie. On 10/24/2011, the tv made a popping sound and went out completely. I have only had the tv for 10 months now and it will not power up at all. I will never purchase another Vizio tv and will not definitely buy a tv from Walmart!
I called Vizio regarding the problems I was having with the tv and they claimed I did not purchase a warranty so they could not give me another one. Also, I unplugged the tv and plugged it back in and still had the same problems! Vizio customer service is the worst I've seen so far. They act like they can't understand what's wrong with the tv and they work there! Anyway, I decided to purchase a different brand that will last longer than Vizio tvs!

I bought my 42" LCD SV422XVT TV a little over a year ago. It worked for about a year without any problems. But now, it has no picture, no sound, and shuts off by itself after a minute or so, which is convenient as the remote no longer works either. I called tech support and was advised, as so many others were, that the warranty expired and they offered me the recertified/refurbished TV.
It is hard to think about what to say next without using expletives. I've had old tube televisions for 15/20 years that never needed a repair. I finally gave them away. I should have kept them. Now I am out a TV. I have been told by a TV repairman that parts for Vizios are not readily available. He has to search online to find them. And even if he can find the parts, it will likely cost hundreds and there's no guarantee that it won't break again. I paid over $800 for this TV. What a waste! If there's a class action, I am in. It is very disappointing to see how many people have been defrauded by Vizio's crappy products. And no matter where the product was purchased or how much they cost, they were all pieces of crap!

The past 3 months it hasn't turned on at all. I had the cable company come to thinking it might of been a wire, but again nothing to do with that. It's a problem with the TV. When I turned on the TV, the entire screen was black and the blackness started to resend to the right side of the screen showing a portion of a picture only to stop short of clearing entirely. I contacted VIZIO and explained what the TV was doing and I was instructed to unplug the TV from the power supply, hold in the power for approximately 30 seconds and plug the power supply back in. This should reset/clear the screen. But, no luck. They had me run the screen cleaner, again no luck. When I asked about having this fixed. I think the problem is with the power supply. I dug through a box of miscellaneous power adapters. I found one with same voltage output and nearly identical amperage output. I purchased a 55" Vizio Flat Screen 1080 full HD with apps on October 2010. Recently, note two problems that have developed, TV turns itself off, then back on, and all channels have interference with sound. The sound is not coming from our boxes, we have tested for that.
After reading the complaints, I feel extremely pensive about the issues with this brand. Furthermore, speaking with the CS rep, they offer the same troubleshooting outlined by others reporting the problems. Per my conversation, I asked why Vizio failed to notify their customers. No response. It should be noted that this is a problem created this year, March 2011, via the updates. So, why didn't Vizio inform the customers immediately?
We are not happy with the resolution and, considering we paid over $2,000 tax/s/h, why should we be stuck with a problem that could potentially damage the TV permanently? This problem was created internally and the techs, from what I gleaned, "are working to resolve it". Well that is unacceptable, and to think Vizio won't consider the repercussions to inferior CS, tech support, resolution.
If all the protocol per Vizio fails, we are offered a re-certified TV… Hello, not happening. I will continue to update this blog and report information as we receive. Ask yourself this question, as I posed this to CS rep, how could they know all the variables? Or do they? Vizio has kept a low profile on this one. What else is lurking. I’m a very unhappy customer in Metro Washington, DC.

I purchased a Vizio 47" last year for $900 with what I thought was an extended warranty from Sam's Club. A year later, the TV went out. Sam's receipt, where the TV and warranty were purchased, was blank except for the price. Needless to say, they would not honor it. Instead, the manager told me that it still had a manufacturer's warranty. Vizio said that I was past the warranty by less than a month and they would not honor it. They offered me a refurbished unit at half price. I went ahead and took that offer. Now, the picture flickers off and on when I watch anything on one input channel. The sound is awful and does not allow you to adjust it without 3 built in choices. I followed their instructions and had no luck. I am a QA inspector and tech for another company and know a few extra tricks without opening the unit myself. I believe that Vizio, as well as Sam's, needs a serious wake-up call and should start respecting their customers better. They should have my first TV repaired free and give me my money back. The additional compensation for problems caused by their lack of prompt and respectful customer appreciation is not far fetched.

It is highly unlikely that I will ever purchase a Vizio product again much less recommend them to anyone. I have had this Vizio Gallevia for 5 years now. It's completely dead. Mind you, I purchase this product for $1500.00 and now it sit as a big paper weight. I have another 42" flat screen in my home made from Hitachi, that I purchased 10 years ago, working flawlessly. The Vizio Gallevia was turned ON maybe every other day for about two to three hours.
I have had much better luck with cars than this product. At least with cars there are inspections and checklist to insure it remains road worthy, but with the Vizio Gallevia no such thing. First, it starts humming, then picture quality starts to go, then nothing.... completely flat dead.
I have read many negative postings on the web about this product, and I'm not surprised based on what has happen. Even more frightening is that the company will not stand behind there product. Five years working is not a good industry standard. I will insure what has happen to me does not go unnoticed. There is now way anyone should pay as much as I did or more for a product that will fail in such a short period of time.
I am a stand up person when it comes to my obligation and responsibilities. This is not a drive by commentary; what I have stated are facts.

I purchased a 32" LCD Vizio in 11/2010. I immediately had a problem with programming my cable company remote to the TV. I'm not too technically adept, but this isn't rocket science either. Finally, I got everything working except that I couldn't get the cable remote to adjust the volume. Also, when watching a movie, the sound would go in and out. I called customer service and told that it was the cable company's fault. I called Verizon and they troubleshot everything. Finally, they decided to send a new equipment (cable box and remote).
When that came, I hooked everything up. It was difficult for me since as stated, I'm not too techie. Same problem. No volume control. I decided to go with the flow and use the Vizio remote for volume and Verizon remote for everything else. The sound goes in and out. I called Vizio and was told to put new batteries, unhook this, plug that in, unplug this, input different sequences, etc. By now, months have gone by and the 3-month return privilege is over.
What happened was I was so gullible to think the problem could be fixed and instead of taking action, I went along with a 'stalling' process. Finally, Vizio sent a repairman to replace a board. Same problem, sound in and out. Then they decided to replace the TV (it was within the 1 year period). I received the replacement. Same problem, sound in and out when watching a movie. It's kind of odd, but that's what's happening.
I'm calling Vizio tomorrow but based on the reviews I just read, I can't imagine any satisfaction. As much as I hate all the litigation in this country. People should all get together and start a class action lawsuit. None of us can afford to buy defective products.

Wow, another victim of Vizio. We purchased a 55-inch HDTV at Costco about 2 1/2 years ago. The limited reviews I found online at that time were actually good. Combined with the product being sold at Costco which is a reputable company, we felt confident in our purchase. Like the thousands of other Vizio customer complaints, we have experienced the exact same problems. First, the "pops of death", and a black screen. The sound works, so on the bright side, we may have lost a very expensive TV, but gained a giant radio.
Obviously, the powers that be at Vizio have decided that short term profits are what's most important. It's incredibly stupid. When you have a great experience with a company you'll share it with 4 people but with this type of experience, at least 40 will hear about it. I've already shared my story with family members, friends, and co-workers, to help prevent this from happening to them. In fact one of my colleagues was about to purchase a TV at Costco today, he's going with a Sony.

This is my second time to file a complaint in hopes anyone that reads reviews, will not even consider buying a Vizio TV. I only rated one star as they will not allow a zero. I purchased my first Vizio TV on April 4, 2008 and I paid $1,529.79 cash for it. The picture started to turn black less than two years after purchase. I called them and did everything they told me to do, but nothing helped. I have never owned a TV that I have been this unhappy with, as they will not try to help the customer. My 8-month old Vizio 55" TV lost 2/3 of its lamps. It was still under warranty, so I called Customer Service. It was not repairable, so they said I would receive a replacement of like value. One month later, I got my replacement but it was 120Hz instead of 240Hz, had 10-watt speakers instead of 15-watt and had a lamp half life of 30,000 hours instead of 40,000 hours. When I complained that this had inferior specs compared to my other one, they first told me I was wrong then told me I was right, but the difference shouldn't matter to me. When I pointed out that the anticipated panel life was 25% less than my other TV, they told me that number was "only an estimate". They admitted that the specs information on their website was incorrect, but downplayed it as of no consequence. The best they could offer is a 6-month additional warranty on the refurbished model. I feel I was misled and got a lesser quality TV than what I paid for.
Additionally, when I first called TS, they told me I would have to take pictures and email or text the pictures to them, or my warranty would not be honored. I managed to do that, with assistance, but I had no idea that my warranty had this restriction and I would not have bought the TV had I known. I live in a retirement community where people aren't that tech-savvy. How many of them cannot comply with the warranty requirements?

Like most people, I fell for an American pride product and decided to purchase a 42" Plasma Vizio TV. Big mistake! After a little more than a year, the screen went totally black. The audio still works but all you can see is a black screen. After I called customer service, I was told the TV is out of warranty and I would have to spend close to $400 to have it repaired by an authorized dealer. So I decided to spend $500 and buy a new one, Viera Panasonic. The old set is still in my garage undecided on what to do with it. Never again. They told me that it had a bad X-Y board and a used one would cost me $200 and a new would be $400. In checking into this TV, I found out that it had been manufactured in November 2007 and first sold by Sam's Club in March 2008. It had broken once in less than a year and a second time(with me) in less than 5 months. I got little help from Vizio and they don't seem to care that a TV they're saying #1 in being sold on the market has broken twice in less than 3 years.
I suppose that I have been screwed by the repair shop and Vizio. Neither of these TVs is heavily used as the faithful Samsung TV in the living room is the most used one. At first everything seemed fine until the first one started shutting itself off. When I called in, they had me recycle the TV, which seems to have worked so far. But this TV is less than a year old.
The second TV now has almost no sound, even on the 100 setting it is difficult to hear. So as the book says, I called in for help and after spending hours and days on the problem, they have finally agreed to take it in to fix it.

Last February, I impulsively bought a 32" Vizio HDTV which was on sale for the ridiculously low price of $290.00. From my research on the Internet, Vizio was frequently acclaimed for providing great value at budget prices.
After hooking it up at home, I called Vizio to report dissonance in the picture. The agent informed me that I needed an HDMI cable. Why would Vizio insert a connection with its HDTV that was not conducive to high definition? Her response indicated that this was standard practice. Really? Why would a company indulge in such a senseless, thoughtless practice? Why would they deliberately and knowingly pack an unusable attachment that would have to be discarded? What a waste! Wouldn't it be more reasonable and cost effective to remove the useless attachment and simply stamp the box, "HD CABLE NOT INCLUDED?" Think of the savings in material, labor, freight.
I bought the HDMI cable but it took several more calls to fix it, though never quite--the cost of cheap, I told myself. Recently, I started to notice acute discoloration on every channel. No matter how many modifications I made to the menu, the tincture lacked integrity; complexions kept changing and background hues became irksome.
On Wednesday, I called Vizio's tech support. The agent, Kurt, had me restore all manufacture's defaults, tried different maneuvers with the controls, and suggested that it might be the fault of the DVR. But to be sure, I should hook up a DVD player to the TV. If, after inserting a DVD, the colors were still not right, then it would be determined that it was the fault of the TV. I didn't know why he would just assume that I had a DVD player, and what if I didn't?
After I dug the player out of storage, I went on Live Chat for help in hooking it up. In order to get to an agent, I first had to fill out a form with the model number, serial number, number of times called, a synopsis of the issue and the case number Kurt had provided. I got Carlos, who asked if I had contacted Vizio before. Since I had already provided a case number, I thought the question superfluous. But I answered, "Yes, please reference case number **. I then received a paragraph-long message describing what great pride Vizio felt in valuing its customers. Then, we spent quite some time ineffectually trying to get the player to work with a coaxial cable. Finally, Carlos recommended that it would be easier and better to use a tri-colored connection. So, I went out and bought one.
When I called again, I reached Zach. With his help, I hooked up the DVD player, inserted a movie, and communicated to him that there was no improvement. Since the whole reason for taking all that trouble with the player was to determine whether the problem was the TV (and clearly, here was the evidence), imagine my bewilderment when Zach informed me that it was now necessary for me to take two snapshots off the TV screen and email them to photos@Vizio.com. I informed him that I did not have a digital camera. He suggested that I use my cell phone camera. I told him that my cell phone camera didn't take pictures. He suggested that I call a friend, which I did. While I waited for my busy friend to rework his schedule, I googled "Vizio 32" HDTV + issues."
I found a couple of forums in which people were reporting "terrible color" problems with this particular TV; they were asking each other for help. This suggested that Vizio already had knowledge of this issue. Why not, honor-bound by its warranty, simply acknowledge it and fix it? Was there a hidden agenda here? To make one absurd demand after another so that people eventually gave up, or the warranty expire, whichever came first? Was Vizio's customer service the reason why people had resorted to online forums for help?
Later that evening, I emailed the screen shots. Zach had asked for two; just to be sure, I sent them three. The next morning, when I couldn't get through to Vizio by phone, I went on Live Chat. This time, when I filled out the pre-form, I did not neglect, as I had before, to fill in the number of times called (4). In the required comments section, I outlined the issue and sent it. I got Kelly. Kelly wanted to know if I had contacted Vizio before. I typed, "Yes, see case number." She responded with how much pride Vizio had in valuing its customers. I had no response to that; I waited silently. After a while, Kelly wrote that according to Level 3, the pictures were not clear. Could I make them larger? I opened up the pictures; they were crystal clear. I replied with a cryptic no. She replied that without better pictures, Level 3 could not move forward.
I informed Kelly that I had researched this issue on the Internet, that it was a known issue, that the photos I had sent clearly and unquestionably depicted what the issue was and that it was unreasonable to ask for more pictures--especially since I had no camera. She replied that it was not a known issue, that they gave no credence to the Internet, the internet was unreliable, and that unless Level 3 got more pictures, there was no moving forward. I exited the chat. Later that day, when I could finally get through to Vizio, I spoke to another Carlos. I asked him to look at the photos; could he, in all conscience, declare that they were not clear? He said well, they were pictures of people; I should have sent pictures of scenery, take pictures of a nature channel.
I said, "Carlos, this is a known issue. People have written it up on the Internet." He said, "No, this is not a known issue. The Internet is not reliable. Until Level 3 got new pictures, there is no moving forward." Were these people pre-programmed? Who was this capricious Level 3? I asked for a supervisor and Carlos transferred me to Kevin. According to Kevin, looking at my photos, he could see no distortions and no discoloration in the TV. I said, "Are you looking at the same pictures that I am, Kevin?" I asked, "Are you saying that you don't see people looking like baked lobsters? That the one from the DVD looks sepia, and the other one is clearly too dark?" The answer was a flat-out, bald-faced no.
I started thinking, why am I calling these people? I should be in the hospital because there is obviously something terribly wrong with my credibility, my intelligence, my sanity and my eyesight. I should be hospitalized; dear God, please call me an ambulance. I prevailed. I told Kevin that I looked up this issue on the Internet and it is a known issue. He said, "No, it is not a known issue. The Internet is not reliable. Send more pictures to Level 3 or there is no moving forward." Suddenly, the truth dawned on me--I was dealing with a collective paralyzed conscience.
I surrendered. I had no choice but to send new pictures, but then, what absurd thing will I be forced to comply with next? Go out and buy a video camera? Then, what? Back to the store for a connection to the video camera that would feed from my TV to Level 3? Then, what? That I write an email to photos@vizio.com?
I told photos@vizio.com that I would send more photos, under protest, and I am not sure when, since I had to wait for my friend to once again reorganize his schedule in order to accommodate another of their unreasonable requests. I delineated, one by one, my saga with Vizio's disservice since day one. I asked them to please explain to me what good was their warranty, since they had no service center to where one could easily take the TV, get it diagnosed and eliminate the problem?
I did not accuse them of betraying their own "How-proud-we-here-at-Vizio-value-our-customers" label, nor that I was starting to suspect that they would return to me each time with one more preposterous request after another. Instead, I advised that they had already encroached so much on my time, finances and energy, including that of my friend's, that there was no way I could ever let the matter drop. I implored them not to make me involve the BBB and every other consumer rip-off reporting agency on the planet.
Next, I composed an email to Peter **, vice president of IT. I included the email that I had just written to photos@vizio.com. Depending on his response, I would be able to discern if holding people hostage was internal company policy. If it wasn't, I wanted him to notice that Level 3, far from displaying technical merit, behaved like an elitist unit who, from their bully pulpit, doggedly, persistently, unceasingly and arbitrarily dictated one inane command after another. I wanted him to notice how, even as they tormented me for more pictures, their reasons for doing so changed with each new person I spoke to, including the supervisor.
I cc'd William **; as founder and owner of Vizio, because I felt that he would surely recognize how far removed Level 3 was from customer service and technical support. I had a feeling that he wouldn't condone it. I bcc'd Jayme **. I felt sure that he, as manager of marketing, not only had to be aware of the bad press concerning this particular TV, but that he could hardly be so indifferent to it, as to dismiss the source as "unreliable." It was 8:29 p.m.
The response was gratifyingly swift. The next morning, I received a call from someone at Vizio who identified himself as Harley. He told me that it was not necessary to send more pictures. He would personally be overseeing the matter and he already was in the process of making arrangements for a TV repairman to come out to my home. He said that the process would take 7-10 days as they had to procure an expensive part. "Why," I asked him, "do you pre-suppose that a part would be needed or even which part?" He answered, "Oh, we already know what the problem is. It's happened before."
Later, I emailed the three executives to thank them for their escalation. I also wanted to ensure that my experience with Vizio would also benefit others. Not another human being, I wrote, should ever again have to go through what I went through with Level 3. Shortly thereafter, manager of Level 3, JB **, called to introduce himself and to give me his personal extension. He said that he wanted to apologize and that it should not have gone that far. He did not say how far it should have gone. I refrained from asking.
Yesterday (Saturday), the TV repairman called. He advised that the part should become available in three days, not 7-10, as had been initially estimated. Not in time for the Emmy's, sadly, but the big picture at Vizio has begun to look healthier.

Day 1, the support center said that they would send me another of the same model and I would send that one back, they put a $130.00 hold on my credit card. 5 days later, they called and said that this problem is known and is a Netflix error. I have spent a week and a half going round and round with the tech service folks. I have even written to the CEO William Wang via certified, restricted delivery mail. The letter was delivered on Wednesday, August 31, 2011. And as of today, I have heard nothing. In the letter, I explained that I would understand if a repair was possible for a few hundred dollars. But to replace the entire set out of pocket when it is still relatively new is unacceptable. I really don't think Vizio cares at all. They have my money. I am left feeling as though I've been scammed. Isn't there any implied warranty of merchantability for such an expensive item that Vizio is failing to meet? What legal recourse do I have if any?

I bought my first Vizio TV from Costco in 2006. It was a 50" Plasma and at that time, it cost nearly $3,000. It worked fine for about 2 and a half years until it started taking longer to turn on. Then it began shutting off within seconds of being on, with the screen completely blacked out. We got rid of the TV and went to Costco and bought another Vizio since it was the most affordable at the time. We assumed the problems with the first one were just a fluke. Now nearly 3 years later, we are having the same problem. Our Plasma does not turn on and the repairman says it will cost "a few hundred" to fix. Even at the lowest quality a Plasma should last longer than 3 years. This is a poor company that does not stand behind its products.

I purchased a refurbished VIZIO M420NV through BrownBox.com. I did not get the extended warranty which was my fault. I have five other flat screen TVs and understand that I have and should get about five years of operation out of these TVs. Not the VIZIO, six and a half months and the repair estimate is $338 for a TV that I paid $590 for. I am not going to risk $338 repairing a problem which was most likely fixed seven months ago.
The TV does have a lovely blue VIZIO light on the front of the TV; it has no picture or sound but it makes a rather expensive night lite. No thanks. The old adage still applies, you get what you pay for. I knew this set would not be used much so I took a chance and I lost. Surprisingly, Breena from VIZIO returned my call and set up a "one-time courtesy repair." We only turned it on when it's being directly used for media output (we used it less than the cable-box wired TV set). We never plugged it into a DVD player or wired it up to a TV signal.
This morning, when I went to turn it on, the VIZIO front panel light went from orange to white. Sometimes, even when nobody's home, the light would turn on. Now, the TV is dead and doesn't function at all. A TV set, no matter what the manufacturer is, should last longer than 2 and 3/4 years. I am not even going to bother trying to repair it. What a great solution Vizio!!!! Let me go ahead and invest more money in a ** TV from a manufacturer that builds them to break after warranty...it's called planned obsolescence or built-in obsolescence[1] in industrial design is a policy of deliberately planning or designing a product with a limited useful life, so it will become obsolete or nonfunctional after a certain period of time.[1] Planned obsolescence has potential benefits for a producer because to obtain continuing use of the product the consumer is under pressure to purchase again, whether from the same manufacturer.

I purchased a Vizio 22-inch LED LCD TV at Sam's Club on July 20, 2011. I brought it home, connected it, and ran it through setup. Above channel 26, the only way to get to other channels was to channel up or channel down (this means to get e.g. 165 you may have to press the channel up button over 100 times).
The first technician had me clear out the channels then re-scan to reset the channels; this did not change anything. The second technician was going to have me do the same thing. When I told him that I had already done that, he said that he would research the problem and call me back in a few minutes. Two and one-half hours later, I called and spoke to technician #3. She decided that the tuner needed to be replaced. I could have it fixed or return it to place of purchase.
On July 23, 2011, I returned the TV to Sam's Club and I had the purchase price refunded. When I returned home, I had a message that Vizio would repair the TV. Since I had already returned it, I called to say I required no further action. He asked me to describe the problem, which I did. He told me that he had a background in software, and to him it sounded like a software issue. This means that no repair or replacement would have fixed my problem because the software would still be the same.
You only get one chance to make a first impression. My impression of VIZIO is not a good one. One star.

I troubleshot the television; unplugged it and re-plugged it, and it turned on. So, I called and asked if there was a timer or something. I explained what the television was doing, and she said it was the back light--it wasn't working. I was told it will cost $200 or more. Are you kidding me?
I wouldn't ever buy another VIZIO without the longest warranty package that can be purchased with it. Consider it a need and a must for the television, when you compare its cost affective statistics against other brand name televisions; consider yourself and the television downtime when it needs repairs. In the end, they said they would split the cost of the repair with me, and I could BUY another television from their list of return televisions that they have in stock.

I bought a 42'' vizio with built in wifi in Winter 2011 for $579 at costco. Picture and Price are great but there are many very frustrating problems.
1) Wifi does not work 99.9% of the time. It will say I am connected to my network when I go to settings but when I select an application, it will say, this application does not work because you are not connected to the internet. It is NOT an issue related to internet speed, when it connects everything streams fine, it is simply an issue of it not recognizing the network at all. It is also not an issue with my wireless network specifically, I have tried multiple wireless networks, in multiple homes, with all different routers. This issue is fixed if you plug in the internet.
2) The TV overall acts like a very slow, silly, and dysfunctional computer. It is typical to have to press a button on the remote 5x for it to register it has been pressed. Furthermore, it can take up to 30s to register that you pushed a button. Thus you never know if the TV is just "thinking" or if it did not register the button.
3) When I press the big middle applications button and scroll to an application (e.g., netflix) and then press "ok," the menu bar just disappears (as if I pressed the big middle button again, which would removed the menu bar from the screen) instead of opening the application! It takes several trys to open an application.
4) The applications do not include any TV that would be available on your computer for free (e.g., youtube, free Hulu tv, or free episodes of a show provided on a networks website)
5) The TV guide setting does not recognize all the channels I can access

My 42" Vizio TV went out on the 1st week of the month. I contacted Wal-Mart’s warranty at 877-968-6391 and they referred United Radio at 800-634-8606 which took a week just to get in the door. TV could not be repaired so he did his paperwork and said in a week he'd be back. A week later, United Radio computers were down for days and they could not do anything so I was calling Wal-Mart’s warranty for days and they finally got me to a supervisor who said that the service manager would call me the next day and he didn't.
So here I am with 3 weeks of ** and no TV after buying the stupid warranty and dealing with Wal-Mart’s warranty dept and United Radio and still saying in another week. I called Wal-Mart corporate headquarters’ customer service and they could not help me and told me to deal with the warranty dept. For the record, Wal-Mart simply sucks. They are quick to take your money but slow to do anything else even under a warranty even when no one is doing anything about it.

My fiance and I bought our 47" Vizio flatscreen a little over a year ago. About a month ago, the HDMI went out. Luckily, we bought the extra warranty that covers it until 2013. Unfortunately, the extra-insurance company that Walmart uses has taken a month to call us back with the part, just in time for the sound to go out on the TV.
After calling back the very same day that we got the call about the part to inform them that they will need to fix the speakers too, the backlight went out. As if on a timer with the Vizio warranty, every bit of this goes out in a month's span. Even worse, the insurance company that covers Walmart's extended warranty offered us another TV, a refurbished one.
As if I would want that after having this kind of luck? Not only that, but our extended warranty that we purchased would not roll over to the refurbished TV. So we would have a pieced-together TV with no promises. This is the worst experience ever. I will never own another Vizio.

My 32" Vizio was purchased at Sam's Club on 05/30/10. The price was $588. On 06/26/11, a piercingly loud noise started, followed by vertical lines through the picture. The TV shut down before I could unplug it and is now dead. It will not power back on and since it was 27 days past the warranty cut-off, I have no recourse except to have it fixed at my expense. Given the number of owners who relate that after repair their Vizio stopped working again, I am not sure I want to throw more money at this situation.
I have owned many TV sets in my life, but this was by far the shortest-lived. This is both frustrating and quite ridiculous. Any company whose products have such inherent problems should address them and Vizio is obviously not concerned about their customers or reputation. While checking consumer reviews online for their products, it would seem that Vizio may even be employing people to hype their products and keep the money rolling in. I will never be a Vizio customer again, and while shopping for a new TV, I made sure to inform the store and the other customers present about my terrible experience with Vizio. I will continue to spread the word and hopefully prevent others from wasting their money with this company as well.

I called Vizio and they talked me through some steps but nothing. They asked for all the numbers on the TV and I found out that it was refurbished. We were not informed of this. I feel there should be a recall on this after reading all the complaints. My husband died two years ago and I'm on a limited income and now, I'm without my TV. I was told by Vizio that it would cost me $357.00 to repair it and that had to be paid in advance.
I will never buy a Vizio ever again and I have a very big mouth to tell everyone. Now, is there anyone that can help all of us get this resolved. I am very sick and cannot go out much (doctor's, stores, and church). I have no one else here. I need my TV - the only company i have.

I never received a warning it was going to expire. I was never given an offer to extend the warranty like all my other TVs before. I would have extended it. That's why I purchased the warranty in the first place. My TV has always run great. Then in June 2011, the screen began to flicker and I hear a buzz coming from it too.
I first called Costco. They walked me through a few things to try to fix the problem. Then when that didn't work, they told me it's not under warranty and gave me a few places to call for repair. I then called Vizio and they did the same thing. I was told that they don't inform the owner anymore that their warranty is due to expire. Today, by chance, both worked for about an hour. After that--nothing. After reading these same complaints from across the country from so many others who were cheated, I too, will never purchase any a product from VIZIO ever again. It’s an expensive electronic. I paid nearly $1,000. It should last longer than 18 months. Living in a rural area, there are no local repair people. In order to reset the TV to working order, you have to manually unplug and replug the TV into the electrical socket. This happens about once to twice a week. Then after a few months, if the above was not annoying enough, the TV not only freezes up and loses the volume, but there is a loud piercing sound that exudes from the TV. It resembles a fire alarm. Now, imagine lying in bed late at night watching TV as your spouse is sleeping and this "alarm" goes off. Talk about a wake up call. I called Vizio and the reps are telling me that they can't do anything because the record of purchase of the TV is not the same date in which I purchased the unit. I have called Dell who informed me that (of course) it's out of warranty. We had a local repairman look at this, and as I had seen on the Internet from others with the same problem, the inverter board needs to be replaced. I am being quoted $204 to replace this. We paid $279 for the TV. We are now left with junk that we must dispose of somehow.
I will never, never, never buy another Vizio product, and I will tell everyone that I know of the number of similar complaints that I have seen on this website. It’s coincidental that many of these were purchased in or around the same timeframe. Vizio needs to be held responsible for this.
We spent $295.74 including purchase price, shipping and taxes when we bought this in December, 2009. Dell was running a special for Christmas with $100 off the purchase price. We will now be forced to spend $250-$400 more to buy another television of the same size. I am not going to throw good money after bad in order to try to repair something that may or may not work for any length of time. I had to spend $36 to have someone diagnose the inverter board problem. Repair cost of the inverter board would be $204.

I called Vizio. I spoke to a very nice lady who walked me through a procedure to try to fix it, but it didn't. She said unfortunately it is a line defect and is not fixable. She asked if I purchased an extended warranty and I told her I did not think so. She said I should call Walmart to find out. I then asked her if Vizio would be recalling these TVs as a Google search returned many reports of this green line defect. She said she did not think so; even though there appears to be many problems with the TVs,1 it is actually only a small percentage of consumers that have problems. I called Walmart who informed me they have no way of looking up to see if I purchased an extended warranty. I would need my receipt. I am very disappointed in Vizio. We called Vizio because it was outside the 90-day store return policy. The technician over the phone was very helpful. We did what she asked and when nothing worked, we called someone for repair.
We waited a week and repair came. They replaced the panels in the TV. I powered it up and the 1st HDMI port blew again. They ordered another panel and we waited for another week or so. My Vizio had low time on it as I was away from home for more than a year due to health reasons. I live alone and no one but me used the TV. I am in my mid-70's and did not think to investigate my problem on the internet. What a shock to find so many people in my exact situation! I live on social security. This is a big part of my income. Every other TV I have owned was given away as I would upgrade to newer and larger units. Those people would continue to use them for many years.
As I paid so much for this one, I expected it to last me until my death, but less than 3 years?! A call back to Vizio after it went black was futile. No suggestions of what to do or where to try. If there is any way a "class action suit" can force them to stand behind defective junk, I will be more than willing to help in any way possible.
Thinking that mine was an unusual problem, last month I bought a $1,808.00 top of the line 55" Vizio to replace my 42" inoperable unit. I have certainly learned to use the internet from now on!

I have had my VIZIO 42" in HDTV for 2 years and 7 months. It went from being a great purchase to being a lemon overnight. We watched a TV show the night before it died with no problems. I turned it on the next morning to watch the news but only the sound worked--the screen was black. My warranty was up seven months ago, and Costco and VIZIO will do nothing.
I paid $1,076.00 for the TV, that works out to be $358.00 a year to watch TV. Why aren't these companies being held accountable? When I was a kid, we had a TV that work for 20 years. Where is the pride that these companies have in their products? They should be ashamed of their business practices. Do not buy produces from VIZIO!

I have the box. It came in and the shipping information on the box last 3/09/10. The time was 21:43:32--the serial number, model number and everything is on the box as well. The sticker on the TV said that it was built in 2007. Beware, it's only a three to four-year TV. Many people are having the same problems. I purchased a Vizio 42" LCD TV on 1-5-2008 from Sam's Club in Conroe, TX. When the TV was turned on, the screen went totally pink with black lines laterally across the screen. No volume, and controls on TV set did not work. I spent over an hour with my satellite carrier to troubleshoot the TV problems and it was determined my problem was with the TV. I spent about 1/2 hour with Vizio customer service tech and the problem was determined to have been that the TV is out and in need of repairs. I was given a phone number for an out of warranty service repair company to contact. I am extremely disappointed.
We also own a Hitachi 43" Projection TV, purchased back in 8-2001, when we were living in Mandeville, LA. This Hitachi TV has been loaded on a moving van, with our furniture, when we moved from Mandeville LA, to Conroe, TX. Then when we transferred to Lafayette, LA, the Hitachi moved on the moving van with our furniture and went to storage for 3 wks. Then it was moved to our residence. When we transferred back to TX, the furniture and the Hitachi TV were again on the moving van, in storage for 6 wks, and then delivered to our residence in Montgomery. Guess what? The Hitachi works like a champ!

I have had my TV for 3 years, the week of December 2007, just a little over 3 years. It’s a Vizio model no. vu42Lfhdtv10A, serial no. LJPAPCH5050525. I turned it on and it was blank, no picture and no sound. I called around and found out there was no place to fix it at all in the area, and one repair place told me Vizio is really bad about supplying parts to anyone. (Certified Electronics in San Luis, Obispo, CA; 805-543-4484). I called Costco where I purchased it and asked them where I could get it fixed at. They gave me the number to a place called ITI and told me they would be able to help me. I called them (1-888-248-2717) and they told me there was no one in the area that could help me. Then I called Vizio and talked to someone in their support center. He told me it looks like the backlight (I do not know what that is), and I would have to call ITI to have it fixed. He also told me it might still be under warranty. I told him I had already talked to them and he gave me a case number ** and told me to call Costco back and that they would call Vizio for a three-way call.
Both parties were on the phone just to tell me that the TV I had cannot be repaired period. They said once that part goes out on that model, there is nothing they can do to fix it. A 3-year-old TV (I work full time) I can't watch, but after I get off work, I should not go out this soon, and all I wanted was to find a place to fix it. I asked if they could check if there was any recalls issued on this and they said there was none.
Now I have no TV. I work hard for what I have and if a company knows they have an inferior product they cannot fix, they should recall it. I think consumers should be aware if they are buying something that cannot be repaired.

I have phoned your customer support many, many times, went through all of the steps of resetting the television, all of the troubleshooting procedures close to a dozen times, spoken to Costco, and to the Costco concierge service, and Vizio technical support with no such resolution in sight. I have even requested the supervisor to put a note in for the Director of Customer Relations or someone that has authority to correctly help me with this issue to return my phone calls. The shift supervisor then stated to me that he does not know that he can forward my request to anyone that will proceed with authority. He also stated that he did not have a supervisor and when I asked him if he was the boss, then he said no and refused to give me any names of his senior executives.

Bad TV. Bad remote. Bad service.
Pros: sub-standard product. Cons: 10 days of waiting and out of box and TV is not starting. Summary: I bought this TV from Wal-Mart after reading a CNET editor choice review. I paid delivery charges and when I tried to start this out of box new product, it did not start. I have never seen anything like this in my life. A brand new product not working.
I guess CNET editor's reviews are paid reviews. VIZIO is smart to spend money on it because people trust on online reviews more than TV ads. I called their tech support and they don't know if the problem is in the TV or remote. The support guy was very rude. He is going to send me another remote after 10 days. I’m still waiting... He told me to try with a new remote (10 days waiting and still waiting). After that he will judge if the problem is in the TV or remote. I don't have a choice here. I also wrote email addresses available on their website but no response.

I called Vizio tech support only to hear that the backlight had failed and was unrepairable. They basically told me, "Tough luck, you need to buy a new TV." I expressed to tech support that this is clearly an issue of poor manufacturing/build quality that Vizio is failing to address. No issues with the 37" so far, but it's only a year old. Most common culprit is a small 1.5 amp fuse on the main board. On 11/01/10, while watching a football game, my TV also went blank, followed by the infamous pop of death. I contacted Vizio support via phone and explained the issue. They provided me with a number to an authorized repair service in my area.
The repair person showed up 2 days later at about 9 pm. The appointment as conveyed to me was for 6 pm. Although quite cordial, it was very clear that his workload was quite heavy! He took pictures of the board, etc. and left. I have since been told that the cost to repair my TV would be an estimated $500+!Included with the written repair response was the following: Over 90% of our service orders are repaired with our first onsite visit. This service does not guarantee a repair.
If a panel issue is found, we will not be able to repair the unit as the panel itself is considered a non-repairable item. All diagnostic fees, labor fees, and shipping fees are non-refundable. So therefore, they won't know until someone else comes out to my home to determine if the problem is with the panel and if so, I am just S.O.L. If so, they get to walk away with approx. $155 without having done a thing and with a non-functioning TV. I am not willing to gamble with my hard earned money, on a 4 year old TV, nor do I feel that I should be in a position to even have to be putting out any repair money for a 4 year old TV that was rarely used.
It is quite clear from reading the many pages of posts on this site that this issue is a nationwide problem, largely affecting TVs manufactured around 2006. Few if any purchasers of these sets will have them beyond 2-4 years of purchase from Vizio. I implore any impacted purchaser who may have the legal "know how" to commence the proceedings for a class action suit. I would gladly join in this process and am sure many others would do so as well.
I do not expect any electronic device to last a lifetime, but for a) it to not even make it to a 4th anniversary or b) it to be one of many that have been rendered useless, Vizio should be made to be accountable for the lemons that they have clearly sent to market. This is unacceptable and I will never purchase another one of their products. During this holiday season when many friends and family members are looking to purchase TVs, I am encouraging them all to avoid Vizio products. I recommend that everyone who has experienced this level of dissatisfaction to do the same, until Vizio owns up and does the right thing by its customers. Shame on them for their greed and clear sense of poor customer service.
