We bought a 37" LCD Vizio 2/15/09, and today, just a little under 2 months after our 2 year Costco warranty expired, the TV made noise, and went black/purple. We cannot turn it off or on unless we plug it in, the menus won't work, just nothing. I'm so disappointed to read all of these posts, and wish I had done more homework before we purchased this TV. I won't buy another Vizio, I have zero hopes for help from them and wow, what a terrible company. I think Costco, Sams, WalMart, all of the companies that carry this product should yank it from their shelves. Terrible. We're out $800, plus whatever it will cost to fix the 2 year old TV, or replace it.

I bought a Vizio TV in August of 2008 and just googled my problem, hoping Vizio to find a solution. Now after reading all this, I'm afraid to even call about it. My TV goes black and shuts off by itself and also the sound will just go sometimes. You have to turn everything off and back on again to get it to return.

Today I spent several hours dealing with Vizio representatives regarding the repair of my new Vizio TV model V0320E. What started as a pleasant and prompt customer service experience several days ago turned into a nightmare today. I purchased the TV on December 7th from Costco and after just over 3 months the picture became defective. This was not user error or misuse, this is a product defect caused by overheating. I contacted both the Costco Concierge service and Vizio customer service departments around March 19th or 20th ,just days after the 90-day warranty was up. Per the request of the Vizio rep I sent digital photos to tech support.

They set up an appointment for today, March 29th - the service technician arrived and replaced a circuit board. The TV worked fine, I signed off on the paperwork and within about an hour the same problem recurred. I immediately contacted Vizio. After discussing this problem with several Vizio representatives, all they would offer me was the same response: Vizio would provide me with a re-certified unit or a new one which required a $150.00 additional charge. I stated numerous times that I wanted a brand new unit not a re-conditioned or re-certified unit. I purchased a brand new unit and I expect a brand new unit to replace it. They insisted no other option was possible. Throughout this entire exchange all I did get was "I'm sorry Sir". Well "I'm sorry" isn't what I was looking for. Although the TV was just days past the warranty deadline it seems to me that a full replacement with a brand new TV was not unreasonable.

After realizing I was getting nowhere I requested to once again be transferred to a supervisor which now was up to the Level 3 category - I was abruptly disconnected. Throughout these conversations a Costco concierge representative, Jose, was on the line. We discussed the next move and I indicted I wanted a full refund. He suggested I go back to Coscto and see what the manager could do. I immediately took the TV back to Costco and without hesitation the manager at the Costco in Lake Zurich, IL offered me a full refund in cash with no questions asked.

Something tells me he's been through this before. It seems to me that if you wish to maintain a loyal and faithful costumer base you would do whatever it takes to make the customer happy. I wasn't trying to return a product that was 9, 10 or 11 months old, it was just days out of warranty. I think you should take a long hard look at your company policy and remember that costumer satisfaction is priority. Yes, I received a full refund, but not without much stress, time wasted and aggravation. Many thanks to the Costco manager for understanding the situation. Vizio could learn something here. I suggest that Vizio reconsiders its position with this matter! Your timely response is requested.

My 47 inch TV lost picture after 13 months, right after the warranty went out. I missed my date about three days, and the TV went out, and they said there was nothing they could do about it. I bought it at Sears, and the Vizio TV purchased at Sears warranty, was only for a year, and if you buy anywhere else, the warranty is two years. They gave me an option of a repair place that they used, and it has cost me $397, and they guaranteed that they can fix it, but it is still not fixed, and I don't have my money back. I want my TV fixed or replaced.

I purchased a 32" Vizio LCD television about a month ago. The TV stop working a few days ago. I called Vizio and we tried troubleshooting and the representative came to the conclusion that the TV must have a short circuit. I explained to them I cannot find the receipt and we paid cash. They informed me they cannot provide a repair service without the receipt, although I have the original box and paperwork.

The representative suggested I call Target's Corporate office and request a duplicate receipt. I called the office and the representative inform that they cannot print out duplicate receipt due to their policies. I tried calling the store where I made they purchase and they told me they can't print out a receipt or exchange the item with the original receipt.

My TV turns off by itself after four months and I had it repaired twice for this. However, immediately after the second repair, the unit cannot display any channels outside the antenna and the cable subscription is not viewable. Vizio wants to replace with a recertified/refurbished unit. They will not guarantee that the replacement unit is any better other than it has currently in working condition.

I could get an older unit repaired and they have the discretion of replacing it with a new one per warranty but they will not do the maintenance.

We purchased a 42" Vizio plasma TV in Feb. '07. After almost two years, the TV didn't want to come on. You hit the power button, the light would turn from yellow to green then click off. You would have to literally push the button continually for about 20 min before it would finally catch and hold. We contacted the Vizio tech center and talked to Joe. We sent him a copy of receipt and he sent out a repairman who replaced two major components. Well, that lasted less than a year because last night the TV shut itself off and won't come back on. No light, no sound, nothing.

I called Joe and asked what could be done. He gave me the number of a service center where I can pay for its repair because I didn't buy an extended warranty. Obviously Vizio's lifespans are about three years. What a waste of $900. Sad part is the TV was in the bedroom and hardly used except for watching the nightly news. I will never buy another Vizio and I am telling all my friends to tell their friends on Facebook. That should get the word out!

Vizio really need to do something about this instead of everybody thousands or maybe millions of people buy new TVs. This is why people go crazy when stuff like this happens. It sounds like my family is not alone when we say that our $900 TV has bit the dust as well. We also have a 42'' plasma Vizio Television. We were watching it today and heard a popping sound and the picture went black. To say the least, this is most upsetting considering I have only had this TV 1.5 years.

Regretfully, I may still have to get it repaired since I only have two TVs in my home and well, this is one of them. I will be calling the company first thing tomorrow to see if there is anything they can offer since the TV obviously has a defect.

Sigh, hardworking people who just want a little piece of heaven shouldn't have to suffer over these poor quality electronics offered by these vendors that apparently know (conveniently sell items for repairing the product in stores) there are defects with their products. Something should be done to rectify or help consumers with this problem. This is simply unfair because there should be more done to prevent consumers from having to pay additional monies to get a product that we have faith in repaired. There is more to selling a product then slapping high price tags on them. Vendors should stand behind their products. Just like most of the other people I'm not looking for a free TV, just for the one that I have to be repaired.

I purchased a 42" LCD flat screen from Walmart on 2/8/2008. I was not offered at that time an extended warranty. Even If it was offered, it would not have been long enough to cover the defects of my television. On 2/20/2010, my television suddenly made a buzzing noise as the picture went blank at the same moment. The TV no longer functions at all but still powers on. I have researched this and discovered hundreds of the same story and it is obvious this item is defective. This was a substantial investment for someone of my income level and I would expect a television of 900 dollar value to perform longer than 2 years.

I also find it very suspicious that Vizio sells all the replacement parts for these televisions. They appear to be readily available parts and some of them are for televisions that have only been available for a few months. I would be very interested in finding an avenue in which these could be recalled for repairs or replaced for widespread known failures. I would also be interested in a class action if one commences.

It’s now non-operational. The sound is fine but the picture and the buttons operating the TV on the side of the set just stopped working altogether. I have to unplug the TV to turn it off. I consulted with Sears (where we purchased the thing) and then with Vizio tech support.

After reviewing the purchase information and reviewing the pictures I had sent to them, all they could said was “Oops, sorry but the 1 year warranty is out and there is really nothing we can do for you sir." I notified the BBB and sent in a complaint immediately. I also think if we all do this, they will or should wake up and maybe notify someone and possibly rectify this. I am going to let an attorney contact me regarding this issue. Perhaps we can get a group of us together and have them deal with this in a responsible way.

All I want is someone to fix the TV or replace it. Nothing like this should happen to a TV after just 25 months or so. I purchased Vizio 42" TV from Wal-Mart two years ago. I was very excited about our first step into the 21st century with a flat panel TV. I believed the hype: number 1 LCD HDTV company. 3 days ago, the same problem everyone else has posted: screen went blank and won't turn off. I tried the unplug-replug-unplug routine; I actually had Vizio send me an email to do that. Nothing. I contacted Wal-Mart; they won't do anything. I started doing research and it turns out like everyone else is posting. These products are subpar at best and the company does not stand behind their product. Really a shame. I wish there was some recourse for the consumers.

We purchased a 42" Vizio LCD about 13 months ago, and now it often takes 2 or 3 tries before we get a picture when turning on. We are experiencing black screen with audio. I want the problem fixed. We saved a long time to purchase a new TV. This is not a disposable item. It would be nice if the government would force a recall. This happens to 99% of the TV's one month after the warranty is over. Consequences are that we are out several hundred dollars because no one will take responsibility and fix the problem.

I called technical support and they told me to hold the power button for 15 seconds and I did. When I turned it back on, I no longer had sound. She told me it must be the motherboard and I would need to get a repair person out. I'm thinking a minimum $100 for the repair guy and another $250 or so for the motherboard. I'll go buy a new TV, but it will not be a Vizio, and to all of those I have bragged about this TV, they will all hear how they should never buy one. Obviously, Vizio doesn't stand behind their product and we are out the money. Where do we go from here? Can we all pull together and file a complaint through the court system? We might not get all of our money back but at least we could " stump their sales". This TV was financed through Dell at 21% interest and I am still paying on it and will continue to or my credit will be ruined. I'm left with no TV but the bill remains.

It appears we are not alone in our problem with the 46" Vizio TV that we purchased from the Sam's Club store in Springfield, MO in 2/07. We unboxed the TV after purchase, placed it on stand, hooked up the cables, and has not been moved since. It worked great, then on 1/29/10, we turned the TV on. The screen is black and white and scrolling from right to left, then went blue. It had sound for a while then no sound, a message came up: "NO SIGNAL".

We called Vizio and they sent us through their little test, like they haven't heard this story before, then said it was our satellite company's problem. I called Dish and they tried several different things - they didn't feel it was their problem. We hooked an old TV up to Dish and it worked fine. We called Vizio back the next day, of course we are out of warranty. They gave us a number to call for service - they want $365 to look at it and have no idea if it can be fixed. This TV was $1300 and you would expect for that kind of money it would last longer than almost 3 years.

The story even gets worse - we purchased 2 more because we thought the TV was so good - just waiting for them to do the same thing. I still have my receipt so I will be contacting Sam's next to see if they will compensate in any way. Hopefully they will stand by the products they sell since the manufacturer won't. I will definitely never buy another Vizio and will tell everyone I know about this experience. We have a Toshiba big screen that is over 15 years old that is still going strong.

I bought a Vizio HDTV a year and a half ago from Sam's here in Cheyenne for $1100. It's the largest purchase for our family and nicest thing we had ever bought. Two weeks ago, it started to not turn on when first tried. Then we turned it on upon returning home from out of town, and it started smelling like it was going to catch fire. I felt buying extended warranty was unnecessary at the time of purchase, what a mistake. I called Vizio, got nothing but a referral to their out of warranty repair provider. I called and was told it would be $125 for a tech to come and look at it but they explained the failure was probably catastrophic and would cost more than a new TV.

I am not working due to illness and cannot replace it at this time. Plus, several of our family members have bought Vizios upon our recommendation, and we are worried they are going to have problems with their TVs. We are back to watching a 20 inch Curtis Mathis that I purchased 12 years ago, back when a product built in America could be counted on to last. Upon my research, I have found I am not the only person or family who has lost out after purchasing a Vizio. We are just a number now. Vizio knows they are putting out trash masked by extended warranties. Getting only one quarter of the expected lifespan of a TV amounts to a fleecing of the American people. I bought a Dell Computer at the same time I bought the Vizio and the computer has had to be replaced and the TV is trash. It's sad to see the degradation of the American manufacturing sector.

On the December 28, 2009, a subcontracted Vizio tech, who to my surprise was our old Charter repair tech (That's another disastrous story!), came and changed out two circuit boards; this didn't work. We had no picture, except that bold green vertical bar running up the middle. He became so frustrated with his limited skills. He called his superior, who tried to guide him in the problem solving. We purchased a Vizio 50" Plasma HDTV on June 17, 2007. I am embarrassed to say how much! The TV wouldn't turn on after the first six months that we had it. We were lucky that it was still under warranty and a technician came. It took about 4 weeks, but he came and fixed it. We didn't think anything about it and moved on.

In December 2009, we started having problems with the volume not working. But if you turned the television off and then back on, it would sometimes start working again. But then on January 4, 2010, the TV stopped working entirely. As soon as you would turn it on, it would immediately shut off.

We started researching the cost to repair the television to find that the repairs were as much as a new one would cost! As we researched things even further, we discovered that many other people were having the exact same problems with their Vizio televisions that we were having. We think it is ridiculous that a television that you pay that much only lasts for 2 years, if you're lucky!

Someone needs to shut this company down or make them stand behind this poor excuse for a product! We definitely learned our lesson, and we will research things before purchasing from now on! We are also spreading the word to everyone we know to not purchase a Vizio. They are a piece of crap!

I purchased a 26" Vizio HDTV from WalMart on 6/24/08. I paid $350 for this TV. In February 2009, the TV screen turned white and never came back on. There was sound but no picture, just a white screen. I contacted Vizio and it was still under the one-year warranty so I was able to ship it to them, they repaired it and they shipped it back. In December 2009, the exact thing happened again, white screen but still has sound. So I contacted Vizio again, only to find out that the original one-year warranty is expired and they only guarantee their warranty work for 90 days.

They gave me a phone number for a Vizio repair company but I have not called them yet because I do not have the money to ship the TV off to get it fixed and I'm sure I don't want to know what the cost will be to fix it. I told the Vizio representative on the phone that I would tell everyone I knew about my experience with their product and would highly recommend that they do not purchase those products. I am also telling everyone that WalMart will not stand behind the product they sell as well. Both companies should be reprimanded for poor business practices.

It is funny how Vizio has good reviews at the places where the product is sold. I'm at the beginning stages of what seems to be a prevalent problem! I purchased my 26-inch Vizio late 2007/early 2008 from Walmart and I paid $500. I had read that it was a very good TV, etc. On December 21, 2009, I experienced for the first time my 26-inch Vizio TV not turning on first via the satellite remote and the actual TV remote and then later the TV panel. First, I thought. "Hey, why won't this turn on," and thought it was the satellite remote and decided to try the TV remote and it had the same problem. When I pressed the remote, the amber light would go out like usual but the TV would not actually turn on. Then I could see a faint, dull light on the screen as I pressed the remote(s) continuously but there was nothing.

After experiencing this several times today, I thought, "Oh oh, something's up!" I decided to go online and see if this has been a problem and viola, a site filled w/ pages of complaints of the same problem! I own an old Zenith 27-inch that I've had since 1988 and it is still working! I had to put it in the shop once but only after I owned it for a while and the cost was nominal. While I'm at the very beginnings of this problem, I'm not sure what's to come w/ my experience. This is the first day and I'm out of warranty and, of course, I have not called Vizio yet. I have to wait and see what happens over the next several days. Once this plays out, and I'm so hoping my TV is not a lemon, stay tuned to part two.

I sent in pictures and a video and they said they would replace the set. About a week later a refurbished set arrived and when the delivery company hooked it up the new set did the same thing - no Ch 36. I refused delivery of another defective TV. I called VIZIO customer service and talked to Chu, Case #773407. He said he would refer it to engineering but blamed it on a low signal from the broadcaster. I hooked my 32" Slyvania to the same coax lead in and sat it under the 47 " Vizio and Ch 36 came in beautifully. The Vizio does not have an antennae function but my Slyvania did so I took the relative strength reading of 85% and then gave that info to Chu. As of this date Chu has not heard back from Engineering but is still blaming it on the TV station saying that it's signal is too strong and it is reflecting off tall buildings or mountains or hills and the reflected signal confuses the tuner? I live in SW Florida and we are flat - no hills highest elevation is 100 feet in the middle of the state and they call that a hill? My community has a height zoning restriction for of 4 stories or 50 feet and there are no tall buildings. At this point VIZIO has not offered any solutions and refuses to send out a technician to diagnose the problem or send me a new - not refurbished set. So, I am another one to add to the large list of people having problems w/ their Vizio TV.
I have the 32" Plasma. Purchased it about 1.5 yers ago. The picture is great. What is not great is that about 1 mo. after the warranty expired the TV would start clicking on-off-on when first powering up the set. Now it clicks on-off-on-off (about 10 times) before it starts up. Seems to be a VERY common problem w/ the power boards on Vizio sets. Yes, class action seems like a good idea.

Vizio refused to provide any service to me in order to fix this issue and their customer service dept. did not offer me any options in order to get this issue resolved. I got a $40,000 loan from Sallie Mae in 2005. At the time, I was anticipating to have a culinary career and be able to pay upon graduating. During the final semester, I did make some interest payment on the loan to help keep it low. After graduating, I was able to get my career started and made payments on time. Then, unfortunate circumstances happened. I lost my job and so I used the forbearance option.

As the years went by, I struggled in finding another career and doing my best to make payments. Today, I work a job I was lucky to get with this economy, have exhausted my forbearance usage, and have not been able to make payments since I make less than $20,000 yearly. However, they keep harassing me by calling my home or work wanting to collect my payment which are still not affordable. Thanks to cost of living.

I am planning to file bankruptcy even though Sallie Mae can't be discharged. But even then, I still won't be able to afford their payments, again, due to job market/cost of living. One rep from them even said, "Can't you skip rent one month?" or "Borrow from a friend to make your loan current." Oh, yes. I am going to risk being evicted. I don't think so. I can't get an additional job, friends/family can't help pay my debts. So what can I do?

She contacted Vizio about this problem and they advised her to unplug the set and wait a about 15mins and plug it back in. It continued to turn on and off repeatedly, and seemed to her to get worse. About a week after this happened, the TV shut down and has not worked since. She again contacted Vizio and was told her warranty had expired and they would provide her with a number for repair, at her expense. Since I purchased the TV, I emailed "Vivian" at Vizio technical support and also was told after a few correspondences that she was "sorry" but that the warranty had expired and that "unfortunately, after the one year warranty has expired, Vizio is no longer responsible for expenses". I have gone to Walmart with the complaint and will continue to pursue this up through the chain of commands at Vizio. I was also told on more than one occasion that I had the opportunity to purchase the extended warranty for the Tv...my thoughts on this are if you stand behind your product and build a decent product, an extended warranty should not be needed. I spent over $562.32 on this set and expect more than 14 months of use. Sounds as if there are quite a few complaints regarding Vizio. Would like to see these issues taken care of.

Instead of a program all he heard was a popping sound. The set would not turn on. He tried every troubleshooting suggestion but the attempts were in vain. When he contacted Vizio's customer service he was told that it "sounds like the power supply board is out". Because the warranty period has expired, the technician cheerfully told my husband that he could pay to ship the set to them to have it repaired but that there was nothing that they could do otherwise. I did not purchase the extended warranty for the set because I naively thought that a product that cost nearly $600.00 would be one of quality which we would be able to enjoy for many years before it would need to be repaired or replaced. Whatever happened to pride of craftmanship?? Rest assured that not only will we never purchase a product from that company again but we shall warn everyone who asks what we think of their merchandise to run, not walk, away from ANY product offered by Vizio.

Wrote about my Vizio experience about 1 month ago. Since then Vizio has replaced a motherboard and issued a refurb.
The motherboard replacement had the same problem-probably in their firmware. The refurb had multiple other problems-the case showed obvious damage when delivered, the remote is far cheaper and without backlight. The tuner would show pixelation on many channels and would only tune in other channels 1/4 of the time. Also, the TV would randomly turn itself off. Vizio was going to issue the same refurb again, but saying the second refurb would have new firmware installed that should correct these issues. After the first refurb they claimed if there were still issues a new TV would be issued. I did bring this up and argued a bit, but then decided it was pointless to argue. The next day Vizio called back and said upon escalating the issue the managers decided this case deserved a new TV and would be issuing a new one for delivery. So, after 1 repair, 1 shipped refurb, 3+ weeks of waiting, and hours and hours on the phone with Costco and Vizio we were granted a new TV. I will say the new TV is their latest model, 120hz, SRS sound, and the screen and picture are very noticeably better than the other LCD's I have owned. The remote control is very simple and cheap, no backlight and the worst remote, but a saving grace is the Vizio on screen menu has been updated and you can access some functions like widescreen, sleep, etc., from there. This entire experience has been a head ache and a waste of time, but then again I'm glad the Vizio died before the 2 year Costco warranty ran out. We had to spend a great deal of time, but at least we did end up with a brand new TV.

I'm doing this for my Mom (she doesn't have Internet). She got a Visio TV for Christmas 2008 and has had nothing but trouble with it. We even switched cable companies, thinking that was the problem. It's been in the shop, they 'found nothing wrong'. It doesn't receive the satellite signal. It doesn't get scheduling info from the satellite. Turn it on and there's no picture, or no sound, or it won't come on at all. The few times it has worked, the picture & sound were great. But it has proven to be completely unreliable. After reading all the Visio complaints, I'm even more certain it's the TV.

I call Costco Consierg service and they tried to get Vizo to fix it but the warrenty had expired 4 months earlier so they said no. Needlesstosay the repairs would cost about $400 - $500 I WILL NEVER BUY a VIZO TV NOR will I recommend it and I will surely tell everyone I know that Vizo TV's fail. When someone pays over $1400 for a TV you would expect it to last more than two years. This is certainly a manufacturing defect; I was told by the repair man that Vizo cuts back by using cheep parts that fail on their power boards. I will not repair a product that will fail again. I unplugged it right away to turn it off because nothing else worked. When I plugged it back in, it still comes on but the sound doesn't work very long before you get a high pitch squeal . I have "Dish" network so I was able to hook my sound system to the receiver, and still use the TV. I bought this TV on 9/11/2007 and it started acting up 9/11/2009, right after I went to "Dish" and utilized HDMI for the "first time" to have the ultimate high definition experience. I have contacted VIZIO and await a response via e-mail as I couldn't get through to them by phone as they didn't have an 800 number to call and I don't have long distance phone service on my phone. My boyfriend and I purchased our 32'' vizio tv on 4/18/09 from Costco. It was a compromise between the vizio or the toshiba tv. I was pushing for the toshiba because my dad has a 15 yr old toshiba that still works great! BUT my boyfriend said that it was American made and major league baseball promotes it and we should support anything American made. Well little did we know right on the box it says made in CHINA! So right there is the first fallacy. We just got our first house and previously we were living at his friends house and in our room we didnt have cable so we just watched dvds on it. Now that we have our own place we signed up with dish network and they plugged into the HDMI 1 and it sparked at him right away he said we had a hot tv, but our electrician should come out to make sure its not the wiring. We had a full inspection of the house and everything passed couldn't find any wiring problems. We had a new dish guy come out and he had no proble so we thought oh just a fluke.
On Saturday the fifth of September we had guests over for the first Iowa Hawkeye game. My boyfriends brother brought over his PS3 to show all of us his new game and he went to plug in the HDMI cable into HDMI port 2 and it sparked and HDMI port 3 smoked!!! His HDMI port in his PS3 is now fried and doesn't work because of our tv and it costs $140 to repair it. Our tv shut off right away and now it won't turn on at all. I got on the phone with Costco right away and they were very helpful however the Vizio people were not. I tried being cordial at first however when they started blaming it on my wiring not being grounded and then finding out from the costco rep that they always blame it on wiring first because they don't want it to be the tv I kinda lost it. I repeatedly told them that we had already had the wiring in the house inspected by a midamerican electrician. The rep from vizio literally laughed at me!!! I work in customer service and our moto is if the customer isn't happy you won't be happy and this guy thought this whole situation was a joke. Then he was telling me that he had to talk to his level 3 agent. He came back and said that since we plugged in an HDMI cable into the HDMI port it was customer damage!!! I told him that that's what they are there for is for the customer to plug things into the HDMI they're not just there to look at. By this point I am furious and told him he wasn't doing his job and I wanted to talk to the level three agent. Mind you I have a house full of guests all witnesses to this conversation because my phone was on speaker. The guy comes back and says that he can't transfer me to the agent so the agent is going to call me. My costco rep was listening the whole time to help with the process and he told me to not answer the phone because they were trying to get him off of the connection. Finally we get ahold of the level 3 guy and he tells me that they won't replace the tv because of the wiring in our house. Now we're back to the wiring. He also tells me that this has never happened before to a vizio tv. Obviously there are problems with vizio tvs otherwise everyone else would not be posting on here. I read him there statement on the box about priding themselves in there warranty and I asked him how difficult was it they either send someone out to repair or they replace it. He then got snippy with me and told me and my costco rep the neither of us have taken apart and put back together a tv so we should be understanding to the people who are trying to help. And I said well here's the thing you're not helping. I told him I would never be purchasing a vizio ever again and yelled back at me and said that's fine! I was shocked because in customer service no matter how mad and upset the customer is you should never yell at them.

I bought a Vizio 42-inch TV back in November 2007 from Costco. Around Super Bowl time 2008, the TV experienced the "pop of death" and became useless. Costco had a 90-day return policy, and I was a few weeks out but managed to get them to refund my money by escalating it to a regional manager. I need a TV for the game, so I added about $300 more and bought a 47-inch Vizio. I felt I was "saving" about $300 or more compared to other brands like Samsung, Sharp, Sony, etc. And I thought my 42-inch Vizio was just a lemon.

I have owned the 47-inch Vizio for about 1 year and 8 months and ran into a different issue. The TV locks up and the screen freezes. The remote and on TV controls do not work, and you have to unplug the TV to shut it off. At first, this problem happened 1-2x a day, which is very annoying. Now, it happens every 30 minutes or less, so the TV is pretty much unusable.

I'm still within Costco's 2-year warranty, which I am thankful for because I have arranged for a repair next week. The problem is my warranty expires in 4 months, and looking at the listed issues experienced by so many others as well as my own experiences with Vizio, I'm pretty sure I should be saving for a new TV. You can be assured I'll save longer in order to get a different brand. All TV brands do have lemons and issues, but Vizio seems to be way above normal. Also, the initial $200-400 you think you may be "saving" is worthless when the Vizio dies in 1-2 years and is out of warranty when a higher quality set lasts for 5+ years.

They took 5 days to get back with us and said that it would be at least $400.00 to repair and could be more if something else was found. This is so upsetting! When you pay $1,200.00 for something, you expect it to last longer than a year and a half! After reading many of the same complaints, I think there should be a recall on these TVs! In December 2007, I purchased a Vizio JV50P HDTV10A plasma television from Sears. On August 20, 2009, a bright pink vertical line suddenly appeared on the screen. After checking that it was not caused by my satellite service (by pulling the cable and trying both my VCR and DVD, which still showed the pink line), I called Vizio customer care. I was told that the line is caused by a bad gas node and cannot be repaired, that I have to replace the entire unit. This product is 8 months out of its original manufacturer's warranty, and I still have over $600 in payments left from the original cost of $1,600.

I have now found an overwhelming amount of Vizio owners with the same problem of their televisions developing major problems after approximately 1 to 1-1/2 years of ownership and out of warranty. Vizio does not stand behind their product and if there is no extended warranty purchased on the product, the consumer is left holding the bag. The Vizio rep stated that the least little bump to the TV could cause this problem. However, the TV had not been moved since being installed. We have no children romping around the house, and the only time it is touched is to dust it. If it is true that the smallest bump would cause this issue, how is it that it does not happen in shipping and/or delivery and installation? Ridiculous excuse. These are defective products that should be recalled and the consumers made whole.

I have suffered a loss of $1,600, with over $600 left to pay on this product on my Sears credit card. I cannot afford to simply go out and purchase another unit. I am now left with a defective television and a situation of throwing good money after bad.
