We bought a 37" LCD Vizio 2/15/09, and today, just a little under 2 months after our 2 year Costco warranty expired, the TV made noise, and went black/purple. We cannot turn it off or on unless we plug it in, the menus won't work, just nothing. I'm so disappointed to read all of these posts, and wish I had done more homework before we purchased this TV. I won't buy another Vizio, I have zero hopes for help from them and wow, what a terrible company. I think Costco, Sams, WalMart, all of the companies that carry this product should yank it from their shelves. Terrible. We're out $800, plus whatever it will cost to fix the 2 year old TV, or replace it.

I bought a Vizio TV in August of 2008 and just googled my problem, hoping Vizio to find a solution. Now after reading all this, I'm afraid to even call about it. My TV goes black and shuts off by itself and also the sound will just go sometimes. You have to turn everything off and back on again to get it to return.

Today I spent several hours dealing with Vizio representatives regarding the repair of my new Vizio TV model V0320E. What started as a pleasant and prompt customer service experience several days ago turned into a nightmare today. I purchased the TV on December 7th from Costco and after just over 3 months the picture became defective. This was not user error or misuse, this is a product defect caused by overheating. I contacted both the Costco Concierge service and Vizio customer service departments around March 19th or 20th ,just days after the 90-day warranty was up. Per the request of the Vizio rep I sent digital photos to tech support.
They set up an appointment for today, March 29th - the service technician arrived and replaced a circuit board. The TV worked fine, I signed off on the paperwork and within about an hour the same problem recurred. I immediately contacted Vizio. After discussing this problem with several Vizio representatives, all they would offer me was the same response: Vizio would provide me with a re-certified unit or a new one which required a $150.00 additional charge. I stated numerous times that I wanted a brand new unit not a re-conditioned or re-certified unit. I purchased a brand new unit and I expect a brand new unit to replace it. They insisted no other option was possible. Throughout this entire exchange all I did get was "I'm sorry Sir". Well "I'm sorry" isn't what I was looking for. Although the TV was just days past the warranty deadline it seems to me that a full replacement with a brand new TV was not unreasonable.
After realizing I was getting nowhere I requested to once again be transferred to a supervisor which now was up to the Level 3 category - I was abruptly disconnected. Throughout these conversations a Costco concierge representative, Jose, was on the line. We discussed the next move and I indicted I wanted a full refund. He suggested I go back to Coscto and see what the manager could do. I immediately took the TV back to Costco and without hesitation the manager at the Costco in Lake Zurich, IL offered me a full refund in cash with no questions asked.
Something tells me he's been through this before. It seems to me that if you wish to maintain a loyal and faithful costumer base you would do whatever it takes to make the customer happy. I wasn't trying to return a product that was 9, 10 or 11 months old, it was just days out of warranty. I think you should take a long hard look at your company policy and remember that costumer satisfaction is priority. Yes, I received a full refund, but not without much stress, time wasted and aggravation. Many thanks to the Costco manager for understanding the situation. Vizio could learn something here. I suggest that Vizio reconsiders its position with this matter! Your timely response is requested.

My 47 inch TV lost picture after 13 months, right after the warranty went out. I missed my date about three days, and the TV went out, and they said there was nothing they could do about it. I bought it at Sears, and the Vizio TV purchased at Sears warranty, was only for a year, and if you buy anywhere else, the warranty is two years. They gave me an option of a repair place that they used, and it has cost me $397, and they guaranteed that they can fix it, but it is still not fixed, and I don't have my money back. I want my TV fixed or replaced.

I purchased a 32" Vizio LCD television about a month ago. The TV stop working a few days ago. I called Vizio and we tried troubleshooting and the representative came to the conclusion that the TV must have a short circuit. I explained to them I cannot find the receipt and we paid cash. They informed me they cannot provide a repair service without the receipt, although I have the original box and paperwork.
The representative suggested I call Target's Corporate office and request a duplicate receipt. I called the office and the representative inform that they cannot print out duplicate receipt due to their policies. I tried calling the store where I made they purchase and they told me they can't print out a receipt or exchange the item with the original receipt.

My TV turns off by itself after four months and I had it repaired twice for this. However, immediately after the second repair, the unit cannot display any channels outside the antenna and the cable subscription is not viewable. Vizio wants to replace with a recertified/refurbished unit. They will not guarantee that the replacement unit is any better other than it has currently in working condition.
I could get an older unit repaired and they have the discretion of replacing it with a new one per warranty but they will not do the maintenance.

My husband bought our new Vizio TV in Dec 2009. I have experienced the screen going dark then to black on several occasions with audio. This is absolutely ridiculous since this TV is only 3 months old! We are in the process of trying to get in touch with Vizio and see if we can get this issue resolved. I know we can't afford to get a new TV or get the repairs done. I just hope they will honor our warranty even without the bill of sale. Never will we get another Vizio!

We purchased a 42" Vizio plasma TV in Feb. '07. After almost two years, the TV didn't want to come on. You hit the power button, the light would turn from yellow to green then click off. You would have to literally push the button continually for about 20 min before it would finally catch and hold. We contacted the Vizio tech center and talked to Joe. We sent him a copy of receipt and he sent out a repairman who replaced two major components. Well, that lasted less than a year because last night the TV shut itself off and won't come back on. No light, no sound, nothing.
I called Joe and asked what could be done. He gave me the number of a service center where I can pay for its repair because I didn't buy an extended warranty. Obviously Vizio's lifespans are about three years. What a waste of $900. Sad part is the TV was in the bedroom and hardly used except for watching the nightly news. I will never buy another Vizio and I am telling all my friends to tell their friends on Facebook. That should get the word out!

Vizio really need to do something about this instead of everybody thousands or maybe millions of people buy new TVs. This is why people go crazy when stuff like this happens. From reading the complaints online about Vizio TVs, this is a common complaint and two years seems to be the lifespan for the Vizio. If there is a class action suit, I would want to know. In January of this year, the TV started "locking up" on me, as in it wouldn't respond to anything other than taking the power cable out. I didn't save the receipt, so warranty service was out of the question. A dumb move on my part, however, I did read about the hell other customers went through to attempt to get their sets repaired. Thus, I took the TV to a local repair shop. He found that the TV's mainboard went out and it was going to cost $180 to replace it. Only the Vizio light in front of the TV works and will only turn off if unplugged. I found out today it will cost us $360 to fix! Are you kidding me, Vizio? Sigh, hardworking people who just want a little piece of heaven shouldn't have to suffer over these poor quality electronics offered by these vendors that apparently know (conveniently sell items for repairing the product in stores) there are defects with their products. Something should be done to rectify or help consumers with this problem. This is simply unfair because there should be more done to prevent consumers from having to pay additional monies to get a product that we have faith in repaired. There is more to selling a product then slapping high price tags on them. Vendors should stand behind their products. Just like most of the other people I'm not looking for a free TV, just for the one that I have to be repaired.

I purchased a 42" LCD flat screen from Walmart on 2/8/2008. I was not offered at that time an extended warranty. Even If it was offered, it would not have been long enough to cover the defects of my television. On 2/20/2010, my television suddenly made a buzzing noise as the picture went blank at the same moment. The TV no longer functions at all but still powers on. I have researched this and discovered hundreds of the same story and it is obvious this item is defective. This was a substantial investment for someone of my income level and I would expect a television of 900 dollar value to perform longer than 2 years.
I also find it very suspicious that Vizio sells all the replacement parts for these televisions. They appear to be readily available parts and some of them are for televisions that have only been available for a few months. I would be very interested in finding an avenue in which these could be recalled for repairs or replaced for widespread known failures. I would also be interested in a class action if one commences.

My brothers, sisters and I had purchased a new Vizio 37" HDTV for my parents for Christmas 2 years ago, and this past week (Feb. 16, 2010) the TV just started raining pixels and then went white, grey and black vertical bars. It’s now non-operational. The sound is fine but the picture and the buttons operating the TV on the side of the set just stopped working altogether. I have to unplug the TV to turn it off. I consulted with Sears (where we purchased the thing) and then with Vizio tech support.
After reviewing the purchase information and reviewing the pictures I had sent to them, all they could said was “Oops, sorry but the 1 year warranty is out and there is really nothing we can do for you sir." I notified the BBB and sent in a complaint immediately. I also think if we all do this, they will or should wake up and maybe notify someone and possibly rectify this. I am going to let an attorney contact me regarding this issue. Perhaps we can get a group of us together and have them deal with this in a responsible way.
All I want is someone to fix the TV or replace it. Nothing like this should happen to a TV after just 25 months or so. Based on some of the complaints I have read here, it appears that Vizio obviously knows there are functionality issues with their TV's. I was always informed that an HDTV will not go bad. Or at least 20 plus years or so. The Sears salesperson had mentioned this to me and my sister when we purchased the thing. Hopefully this will bring some sort of satisfaction. We’ll see. I have a Vizio 42" LCD HD TV. After 18 months, it started flickering. I called customer service and was advised that the warranty was only 12 months, and the back light was probably the problem with set. They said the back light was not a replaceable part, so calling a repair man would be waste of time and money. I spent almost a thousand dollars on this TV, and after only 18 months, it is broken and can not be repaired. I emailed all contact numbers I could find on Vizio web site, but got no answers from anyone. I can not afford to buy a new set to replace this. My TV can not even be repaired.

I purchased a 32 inch Vizio, exactly 24 months ago, and this morning (Feb 8, 2010), the screen froze, and then went black. I could not turn the TV off, so I unplugged it. Plugged it back in and went to turn it on, and the screen remained black. I called Vizio customer service and they said that they cannot assist me with the matter because I have had the TV for more than 12 months. I purchased it from Circuit City, which went bankrupt and closed its national chain of stores. There are thousands of Vizio TV owners that are in the same boat. How can we unite and get action taken toward Vizio? We definitely need consumer protection and customer service/resolution immediately.

I purchased a Vizio LCD TV (Model: VW42L-FHDTV-10A) on June 2008 from Walmart. The TV went dead on 1/4/2010--no picture, no sound and no backlight. I called customer service and they referred me to a technician service company certified by Vizio because the TV was already past the warranty period. I called the service company and explained the TV problem. They said that they can send a repair person--the service charge was $100 and the repair would be a minimum of $365. I am retired and could not afford it so now, I am stuck with a TV that costs $965. I personally think that a law firm should start a class action lawsuit against Vizio for knowingly selling a TV product that does not stand up to the normal use.

They said the TV was out of warranty and that we could call a repair shop to fix it. But it would be cheaper just to go out and buy a new TV. Basically, they did not help us.
This is ridiculous that this TV is just over a year old and that happened. It seemed from reading everyone Else's posts they were having the same problem. Vizio should be put out of business for selling TVs that wont last more than a year.

It appears we are not alone in our problem with the 46" Vizio TV that we purchased from the Sam's Club store in Springfield, MO in 2/07. We unboxed the TV after purchase, placed it on stand, hooked up the cables, and has not been moved since. It worked great, then on 1/29/10, we turned the TV on. The screen is black and white and scrolling from right to left, then went blue. It had sound for a while then no sound, a message came up: "NO SIGNAL".
We called Vizio and they sent us through their little test, like they haven't heard this story before, then said it was our satellite company's problem. I called Dish and they tried several different things - they didn't feel it was their problem. We hooked an old TV up to Dish and it worked fine. We called Vizio back the next day, of course we are out of warranty. They gave us a number to call for service - they want $365 to look at it and have no idea if it can be fixed. This TV was $1300 and you would expect for that kind of money it would last longer than almost 3 years.
The story even gets worse - we purchased 2 more because we thought the TV was so good - just waiting for them to do the same thing. I still have my receipt so I will be contacting Sam's next to see if they will compensate in any way. Hopefully they will stand by the products they sell since the manufacturer won't. I will definitely never buy another Vizio and will tell everyone I know about this experience. We have a Toshiba big screen that is over 15 years old that is still going strong.

I bought a Vizio HDTV a year and a half ago from Sam's here in Cheyenne for $1100. It's the largest purchase for our family and nicest thing we had ever bought. Two weeks ago, it started to not turn on when first tried. Then we turned it on upon returning home from out of town, and it started smelling like it was going to catch fire. I felt buying extended warranty was unnecessary at the time of purchase, what a mistake. I called Vizio, got nothing but a referral to their out of warranty repair provider. I called and was told it would be $125 for a tech to come and look at it but they explained the failure was probably catastrophic and would cost more than a new TV.
I am not working due to illness and cannot replace it at this time. Plus, several of our family members have bought Vizios upon our recommendation, and we are worried they are going to have problems with their TVs. We are back to watching a 20 inch Curtis Mathis that I purchased 12 years ago, back when a product built in America could be counted on to last. Upon my research, I have found I am not the only person or family who has lost out after purchasing a Vizio. We are just a number now. Vizio knows they are putting out trash masked by extended warranties. Getting only one quarter of the expected lifespan of a TV amounts to a fleecing of the American people. I bought a Dell Computer at the same time I bought the Vizio and the computer has had to be replaced and the TV is trash. It's sad to see the degradation of the American manufacturing sector.

Vizio did a new TV exchange. Now the newer TV that is 3 years and 3 months old died on December 18, 2009(!) just before the Xmas holidays! Vizio stated it would be at least two weeks before someone could come out and repair it due to the holidays.
On the December 28, 2009, a subcontracted Vizio tech, who to my surprise was our old Charter repair tech (That's another disastrous story!), came and changed out two circuit boards; this didn't work. We had no picture, except that bold green vertical bar running up the middle. He became so frustrated with his limited skills. He called his superior, who tried to guide him in the problem solving. Finally, they both gave up, and he split!
On January 11, 2010, a different repair tech showed up and transported the TV to his repair shop for repairs. He later returned it on January 22, 2009, and it died again on January 25, 2010. They had me unplug the TV, hold the on/off button for one minute. When that did not fix the problem, they suggested that there was no power getting to the TV and there may be a problem with the power box inside the set. They provided me with a number for their authorized repair service in California since it was out of warranty.
The repair service wanted $310 upfront to cover labor, parts and a 90-day guaranty. This is without even knowing what the problem is. Of course now you can buy them cheaper than what I paid 3 years ago, but you would expect it to still work perfectly as it is in a bedroom where it wasn't even used much to begin with. Our 55" RCA is 16 years old and never had the 1st problem with it. This is ridiculous and Vizio will do nothing.

I'm at the beginning stages of what seems to be a prevalent problem! I purchased my 26-inch Vizio late 2007/early 2008 from Walmart and I paid $500. I had read that it was a very good TV, etc. On December 21, 2009, I experienced for the first time my 26-inch Vizio TV not turning on first via the satellite remote and the actual TV remote and then later the TV panel. First, I thought. "Hey, why won't this turn on," and thought it was the satellite remote and decided to try the TV remote and it had the same problem. When I pressed the remote, the amber light would go out like usual but the TV would not actually turn on. Then I could see a faint, dull light on the screen as I pressed the remote(s) continuously but there was nothing.
After experiencing this several times today, I thought, "Oh oh, something's up!" I decided to go online and see if this has been a problem and viola, a site filled w/ pages of complaints of the same problem! I own an old Zenith 27-inch that I've had since 1988 and it is still working! I had to put it in the shop once but only after I owned it for a while and the cost was nominal. While I'm at the very beginnings of this problem, I'm not sure what's to come w/ my experience. This is the first day and I'm out of warranty and, of course, I have not called Vizio yet. I have to wait and see what happens over the next several days. Once this plays out, and I'm so hoping my TV is not a lemon, stay tuned to part two.

We spent $1,400 or more on a 50-inch plasma less than two years ago. We lost the picture so we thought it had to be our cable. The cable guy came and checked it all out. He said the coaxial must be out because we could still use the CD video player. I called some repair shops and they all just laughed. We didn't even have to tell them it was a Vizio. They knew what it was when we told them of the problem and that it was only 2 years old. They said 2 years was about all you could expect from a Vizio. This will be the last Vizio I or anybody I know will get. With a product like that, don't expect the company to be around very much longer.

The last time was 3 days ago, it took 15 attempts to get it to stay on. Now it is on all the time, 24/7. Vizio seems unwilling to help me out. They did offer me a courtesy repair if I could find the receipt. That is what prompted me to research the problem and find out that this is an inherent problem with this TV. Walmart won’t even look at me for it’s there where I purchased. There was nothing I did, why should they be able to take advantage of us? I couldn’t afford at the time of purchase, but everyone said digital is coming and your old TV won’t be any good. Is this what we get for buying something the store salesman says will last at least 10 years with no prob.? I know there are things we can’t foresee, but come on.

I got a $40,000 loan from Sallie Mae in 2005. At the time, I was anticipating to have a culinary career and be able to pay upon graduating. During the final semester, I did make some interest payment on the loan to help keep it low. After graduating, I was able to get my career started and made payments on time. Then, unfortunate circumstances happened. I lost my job and so I used the forbearance option.
As the years went by, I struggled in finding another career and doing my best to make payments. Today, I work a job I was lucky to get with this economy, have exhausted my forbearance usage, and have not been able to make payments since I make less than $20,000 yearly. However, they keep harassing me by calling my home or work wanting to collect my payment which are still not affordable. Thanks to cost of living.
I am planning to file bankruptcy even though Sallie Mae can't be discharged. But even then, I still won't be able to afford their payments, again, due to job market/cost of living. One rep from them even said, "Can't you skip rent one month?" or "Borrow from a friend to make your loan current." Oh, yes. I am going to risk being evicted. I don't think so. I can't get an additional job, friends/family can't help pay my debts. So what can I do?

I bought a Vizio 42-inch TV back in November 2007 from Costco. Around Super Bowl time 2008, the TV experienced the "pop of death" and became useless. Costco had a 90-day return policy, and I was a few weeks out but managed to get them to refund my money by escalating it to a regional manager. I need a TV for the game, so I added about $300 more and bought a 47-inch Vizio. I felt I was "saving" about $300 or more compared to other brands like Samsung, Sharp, Sony, etc. And I thought my 42-inch Vizio was just a lemon.
I have owned the 47-inch Vizio for about 1 year and 8 months and ran into a different issue. The TV locks up and the screen freezes. The remote and on TV controls do not work, and you have to unplug the TV to shut it off. At first, this problem happened 1-2x a day, which is very annoying. Now, it happens every 30 minutes or less, so the TV is pretty much unusable.
I'm still within Costco's 2-year warranty, which I am thankful for because I have arranged for a repair next week. The problem is my warranty expires in 4 months, and looking at the listed issues experienced by so many others as well as my own experiences with Vizio, I'm pretty sure I should be saving for a new TV. You can be assured I'll save longer in order to get a different brand. All TV brands do have lemons and issues, but Vizio seems to be way above normal. Also, the initial $200-400 you think you may be "saving" is worthless when the Vizio dies in 1-2 years and is out of warranty when a higher quality set lasts for 5+ years.

The TV was still on, but the remote or the buttons on the side did not work. It would not turn off unless it was unplugged. The Vizio tech knew exactly what it was and referred us to a Vizio repair place. They took 5 days to get back with us and said that it would be at least $400.00 to repair and could be more if something else was found. This is so upsetting! When you pay $1,200.00 for something, you expect it to last longer than a year and a half! After reading many of the same complaints, I think there should be a recall on these TVs! We should be able to get our hard earned money back! It's not right that Vizio has not done anything to resolve this problem! I turned off the TV and turned it back on. Nothing happened. I called the tech support at Sam's Club and he had me do some tests on it to see if he could fix the problem. He couldn't. He then gave me the number for Vizio's tech support. I called the number and was on the phone with him for 45 min. He had me do the same tests that I did with the Sam's Club tech. It was the same problem, he couldn't fix it or tell me what was wrong either. He said he would check to see if anyone else had the same problem. He said there had been no reports of this problem with any of their TVs.
I then got on the web and pulled up Consumers Affairs and got into electronics and went to Vizio TVs. Boy, was I surprised! There were hundreds if not thousands of the same problems. In December 2007, I purchased a Vizio JV50P HDTV10A plasma television from Sears. On August 20, 2009, a bright pink vertical line suddenly appeared on the screen. After checking that it was not caused by my satellite service (by pulling the cable and trying both my VCR and DVD, which still showed the pink line), I called Vizio customer care. I was told that the line is caused by a bad gas node and cannot be repaired, that I have to replace the entire unit. This product is 8 months out of its original manufacturer's warranty, and I still have over $600 in payments left from the original cost of $1,600.
I have now found an overwhelming amount of Vizio owners with the same problem of their televisions developing major problems after approximately 1 to 1-1/2 years of ownership and out of warranty. Vizio does not stand behind their product and if there is no extended warranty purchased on the product, the consumer is left holding the bag. The Vizio rep stated that the least little bump to the TV could cause this problem. However, the TV had not been moved since being installed. We have no children romping around the house, and the only time it is touched is to dust it. If it is true that the smallest bump would cause this issue, how is it that it does not happen in shipping and/or delivery and installation? Ridiculous excuse. These are defective products that should be recalled and the consumers made whole.
I have suffered a loss of $1,600, with over $600 left to pay on this product on my Sears credit card. I cannot afford to simply go out and purchase another unit. I am now left with a defective television and a situation of throwing good money after bad.
