Our small countertop size TV just went black. The sound is fine. Date stamp of August 2007. Does anything lasts beyond 1-3 years anymore? Life cycle of product has been cut short. It’s an inconvenience to the US consumer.

I have a Polariod 32" LCD (Model: TLX-03210B) TV that I purchased on November 2007 at Walmart. I was watching TV last night and started to hear a sizzling sound. Then, smoke billowed from out of the top and then the screen went totally black--there was nothing except sound. Is there a recall or class action suit to file?

The Polaroid TV is smoking really bad that we had to open the doors because the smell was so bad. Thank God I didn’t' have my baby in here or went to the store and left the TV on, or I might not have had a home. What do they intend to do about the situation because a TV should not do that.

We have had this TV for maybe two years at the most. One day, went to turn it on and you could kind of see a red light in the middle of the screen and then it went all black. The sound is there but nothing else. I agree we should get a class action going for being cheated out of money. Always thought this was a dependable company but now I know better! Don't even consider buying one. Hot and steamy!

I purchased a 32" Polaroid LCD TV with built in DVD player. This only goes to prove you get what you pay for. This is a secondary TV that I don't use often, it probably would have quit working much sooner if I watched it daily. The DVD player quit working within days of the warranty expiring. Now, the TV sometime will turn on, other times, it won't. I have always purchased Samsung LCD TV's for my primary TV, should have spent the extra money, I'd have a TV that actually works.

I purchased my 40" Polaroid HDTV from Walmart in November of 2007. Just a few days ago, it simply stopped working and would not turn on. I tried unplugging it and nothing. After reading all of everybody's post, I realized that it was not just my TV. We need to get together and put through a class action lawsuit. I paid $940 for my TV (tax included) and am very disappointed that it no longer works. Does anybody know how to get this lawsuit in motion?

Like many, I am a frustrated owner of a 42" Poloroid LCD TV, that now is not working. This television is less than a year old and while my husband was watching it the screen went blank. After calling Poloroid's Customer service line, I was informed that I purchased this TV from Walmart when they were no longer considered an authorized dealer there for all warranties were null and void. WTH?! They would gladly sell me a 300.00 part which they determined was the main control box. The TV was 430.00. I asked if this was a common problem as I did not wish to sink more money into a product that was not reliable.
The customer service agent assured me that it was rare and could be due to power surges or dust. I asked what the average life expectancy was for their TV as I have an rca that is now 18 years old and still working in excellent condition. The service rep said a good LCD good only be expected to last about 4 years. I really wanted to ask if the good ones last that long and their product lasted less than a year. What does that say about the product they are selling, at least my better judgement kicked in and I chose not to order the part.
Thank God. Just out of curiosity, I googled Poloroid and wow! Thousands of complaints, same issue, same TV. Seems rather than rare it is their common practice not to honor warranties and their televisions generally play out from 9 to 18 months. My big question is when will they be forced to issue recall on this product!?

I had a 32" HD Polaroid flat screen from Wal-Mart from December of 2007. I had just turned the TV on and after being on for only 5 minutes, the video screen went black and then smoke came out of the top and back of the TV set. I shut it off and turned it on and the picture shows up slightly for 1-2 seconds and the screen goes black again. I do have sound but no picture. Big deal!
This should not be for TV that is only a couple of years old! Never buy another Polaroid product! Thanks a lot Polaroid because I do not have the money to buy another TV. A Realtor's salary these days do not cut it! I live in the country and it was my only form of entertainment to be able to watch a movie once in awhile! I see many similar stories about this product. People should be compensated from Polaroid!

I bought three (3) Polaroid flat screen TV's during a six-month period 24 to 30 months ago. Two were 38" and one a 42". All three are shut now. Two will not come on when turned on and the 42" comes on with a horrible buzzing sound and colored lines vertically on the screen. The cost to repair them would be around $300 each with virtually no guarantee. Polaroid should be out of business. Do not buy Polaroid TV's. They simply don't work and they will not stand by their product. I'm out of over $2500.

I bought a 46" LCD TLA Polaroid model flat screen in March of '08. It worked fine until April of 2009. I got 13 months of use out of it which was three weeks past factory warranty. I had purchased it brand new at Wal-Mart. I came home one day and it would not work at all. I called several times to the Polaroid Service Dept. and was told of possible problems that might be causing it to not function of which every one I tried without success. I have a job and had a hard time coordinating the possible fixes and solutions that their phone technicians were telling me to do so it took over a week to try all of them as it required me to go to Radio Shack several times to obtain fuses and misc. stuff they were telling me I needed.
When all attempts had failed, they simply quit calling me back although they would. It was incredible how many times their people would tell me someone would call me within 48 hours only to be calling them after that amount of time and getting no one. This went on for one month with the Polaroid technicians. As everyone knows who has experienced the runaround and lies from Polaroid, they do not have any service centers where you can get your TV fixed. The only solution they have is to offer you a guess as to what part you might need to make your TV operational again.
In my case, they decided that my problem was a bad power supply so their solution was to tell me I needed to pay them an additional $275 for them to send me a power supply. And a service technician from my area (rural Eastern Washington State) was to arrange to come to my house and install the new power supply and this was to include a $90 day extended warranty once completed.
Wal-Mart would do nothing for me since the one year warranty was three weeks past the warranty period. Finally I rented and on Friday May 29th 2009 I called Polaroid and paid them the money on my debit card to send the power supply and get it fixed. The Polaroid lady was very accepting and happy to take my money and process it right away and guaranteed that after the holiday weekend I would receive the power supply and within 72 hours a Polaroid service tech would contact me to arrange the time to come to my house and fix it.
The next week was coming to an end and I had not received any tracking number for the power supply or been contacted by no one with Polaroid at all. On Thurs. June 4th 2009 I finally was able to get a hold of someone at the Polaroid service number and was then informed that Polaroid had gone bankrupt over the weekend of the Memorial day holiday and was no longer in business. I was then told that the new company that had taken over was not going to honor any agreements that Polaroid had made prior to them taking over and I would have to take it up with Polaroid but would offer no information on how to contact them or any other info at all. I then contacted the better business bureau of Massachusetts and was told to file a complaint.
I did that and then was told that there was thousands of customers like myself and their was nothing they could do legally but put pressure on Polaroid to do the "right thing." They have no power to do anything for us as consumers. I was then instructed to contact the Mass. State Attorney General and spoke with them several times and tried to file a complaint to be told it was "Not really going to matter because there was so many customers like me and the recovery of anything was probably not likely since they were in bankruptcy."

I bought a 32inch Polaroid TV/DVD combo and six months after I had it tried turning on the TV and nothing would come on. I called Polaroid and they said where your warranty expired about three days ago and you will need to buy the part. So I bought the part after I could afford the part which was yesterday, 09/10/2010, and powered the TV on. And now I have two lines in my screen one horizontal and one diagonal. This has really been a horrible experience and would never by another Polaroid anything ever again.

I bought a 32" Polaroid LCD TV, and have had it for just under 3 years. While watching TV one day, I heard a hissing noise coming from the TV, and then saw a big puff of smoke from the back of the TV, as though it was on fire. Fortunately, there was no fire, but it was scary and something I've never seen from a TV before. The fact that this can happen, and apparently has happened to many others, is inexcusable. No more Polaroid purchases in the future. I lost of $500 on a fried Polaroid TV, and another $500 on the new TV.

I purchased a 40" Polaroid TV from Wal-Mart in August 2007. In a time span of 5 months, the TV's volume stopped working. I unplugged the TV and let it sit about a month before plugging it back up and it started working again. After another month of use, the same problem presented itself. I contacted Wal-Mart and was to contact Polaroid. By the time I got with someone at Polaroid, the one-year warranty had expired and I was stuck with a horrible TV. I will never purchase a TV from Wal-Mart or will I ever purchase a Polaroid (anything).

I bought a 42 inch TV about 18 months ago from Walmart. It acted funny right from the start, sometimes making a whistling sound when turned on. I went to Walmart and a clerk told me that Walmart did not sell them anymore because of complaints. As time went by, the TV got worse. The DVD player failed, a black bar started covering the screen in the middle of a program, it took forever to fire up with the remote, despite new batteries in the remote. Now it will not turn on at all..by the switch, by the remote...nothing. It has been a sorry TV and Polaroid should hang their head in shame. I see that Samsung is having some of the same type of problems. I suspect that the same company that made the TV's for Polaroid are making them for Samsung.

I registered a complaint yesterday about WalMart and Polaroid concerning a 46" TV. I went to WalMart and spoke with Marlene who was very considerate, took my information and asked me to come back the next day to talk to another WalMart representative. Today I went back to WalMart to see what could be done about my 6 month old Polaroid TV that is on the fritz. Gary (not sure of exact title) of WalMart was expecting me. He called Polaroid and got the same run-around that I got. WalMart was not aware that Polaroid was no longer warranting TV's or portable DVD players sold at WalMart and he stated that he would be getting hold of the corporate lawyers to see if they could pull all of Polaroid's mentioned items from their shelves and return them to Polaroid. There was a lot more to the conversation than I can possibly write here. Gary wrote down my personal contact info and said that he would do what he could for me. There were also a lot of interested bystanders listening in.
After doing some shopping, I was approached by one of customer service reps and was told that Gary commented on how well I was handling the situation and that he was going to do everything he could to make it right by me. After returning home, I received a call from Gary, telling me to bring in my Polaroid TV, that he would exchange it for a comparable TV, one with a warranty. I was shocked, my faith in WalMart is restored. Kudos to you ,Gary, for going above and beyond.
Polaroid, you should be ashamed, when you no longer had WalMart as an authorized dealer for your TV's and portable DVD players, you didn't bother to inform WalMart that you would not be honoring the warranties on those products, or to have a recall on those products. When implied that WalMart would pull your products from their shelves, you give them the run-around. Are you trying to go bankrupt?
Anyway, I will no longer be buying any Polaroid products from any store, and suggest that all consumers do the same! Take some responsibility Polaroid!WalMart, good job, very good!

I bought a 46" Polaroid TV from WalMart in March 2010. Now, 6 months later, I am experiencing problems with the TV. I contacted Polaroid and the first representative that I talked with had the audacity to hang up on me. This happened after I got frustrated when he made the statement "I have some bad news for you, WalMart has not been an authorized dealer since 2009 which voids the manufacturer warranty”. Grrrr! So now, I have to go after WalMart for basically selling me a TV illegally. But even with that said, I would have expected a $1,100.00 TV to last longer than 6 months. Watch out WalMart, here I come.

I purchased the 42-inch Polaroid TV, and 3 months after using it, it would just shut off. It has a built-in DVD player, and that too stopped working. I called Polaroid, and they sent me the "brains" of the TV and said a service man would call me and come to install it. I did get the "brains" of the TV; it was a gold metal box that looked like it would just slide in.
Well, I waited for the service man to call. After a week, I called Polaroid, and they said I would hear from him soon. To make a long story short, I called Polaroid every week. Finally, a supervisor spoke to me. She sent me a new TV. I was told to send the old one back and the "brains" they even sent me with FedEx slips, and they would pay for it. I never sent the TV back. I took the "brains" out--took out six screws that held it in the TV--and put the new "brains" in, and it works fine now. I got 2 TVs for 600, not bad. Just to let you know i called Polaroid for 3 months. It is not in my nature to do something like this. But they never got in touch with me to say they never got the broken TV back!

Bought a 42" Flat screen TV from Best Buy in 2007. Less than 3 years later, every time the picture comes on there is a high pitched and loud whirring noise coming from the TV. It is very noticeable, even when my surround sound system is turned up. The issue used to only come up if the TV had been on a while, then someone turned it off then back on. Upon restart, if hot, the TV would make this same noise. Sometimes I could even tap the TV to get it to go away.
Now it is on permanently. I don't even use the TV's audio ever, so it is something to do with the lamps and/or fans in the TV. Going to try and take the back panel off to see if it is something I can fix. If not, I guess it is time to trash the TV since judging by the comments here, I don't even want to deal with the nightmare of Polariod's customer service, or lack there of.

Once we installed the new control box, we could notify them and get a hundred dollar credited back. My 42" Polaroid TV was bought in 11/2007. A couple months ago, the TV would be running and all of a sudden, I would lose the picture. The first call to Polaroid, determined the problem to be the control box. The cost to have a tech come out & install it would be $250. Even though I gave them the serial #, they need a number from inside the TV which they said I could see without taking the back off. Of course, by the time I check this, the support office is closed. So, the next day, I called again. I tell the agent the numbers I can see.
Apparently, these aren't the right ones. So, I look again. Call #3, I still can't see any numbers like they want. Finally, call #4, someone who figures out what control box I would need. Again, reiterates the cost of $250 which at that time, I was hesitant to spend. I had other TV's so I wasn't in a hurry. Fast forward to today, 8/9/2010, a couple months later. Now on 8/2/2010, the TV screen went black on me and I do have volume. So now all I can do is listen to it like it's a radio. I called Polaroid on 8/3/2010 and they said there is nothing they could do except sell me the part that they think it is and it will cost me $289. The TV is only 28 months old and I paid a lot of money from my social security check to get this TV that should have never been sold with the problems it has. I would like to get this TV replaced to me at no cost whatsoever. Thank you for your understanding of this situation

We bought a 32" Polaroid Flat Screen with DVD less then three years ago. We have had the picture go out twice already. The first time it was under warranty and this time it is going to cost us $225 to fix it! The control box has gone out again. The customer service area is not helpful nor do they care that you have a faulty product and I have to wait 12 business days to even get the part. This is ridiculous and reading the others complaints infuriates me that Polaroid has not recalled and made this right with their consumers! I have a TV that does not work again.

I purchased a Polaroid 32 inch LCD TV/DVD combination at Walmart. After a few months of use, the DVD player started making a buzzing sound and no longer worked. The TV worked fine until a couple of weeks ago, the screen went black. I have sound but no picture. I called Polaroid customer service and was told to check the back of the TV to see if I could see a white light shining through. I said no.
The rep then told me that I needed a control panel which he would send me for $225.00. Once they receive my defective part back they would send me $100.00 back in the form of a rebate. The problem is that this TV is less than 3 years old and I do not have another $225.00 to invest in this piece of junk. What a rip off! I have been trying to escalate my concerns within the Polaroid company, but it appears that they have gone bankrupt. I have no idea as to what else I can do.

I purchased a Polaroid 42' LCD on Nov. '08 from local Wal-Mart. Recently, it started to have a black screen on left side when coming on. There are many lines running up, down and back and forth across the screen, with distortions. Turning off and on doesn't do much, but it will come on, stay on with picture at this time. If it's turned off for a few hours and turned back on it again, it has a black screen etc. My wife tells me she has noticed a strong burning plastic or electrical odor after it has been on for over an hour. (I have a poor sense of smell and can't detect the odor).
After finding this site and reading of others similar problems, I am quite angry and concerned. Wal-Mart hasn't carried this particular TV since the '08 holiday sale. Now I know why! I believe all of us need to contact Polaroid and really let them have it. What's going to happen if one of these catch on fire in the middle of the night and burn a house down? It's a crime that companies today can produce and sell such inferior products! We have not tried to contact anyone about the problem as we figured no one would even try to do anything. Funny, at the time I bought this, my wife said I shouldn't buy Polaroid! I guess it does pay to listen to the ladies!

In November 2007, I purchased a Polaroid 27" TV from Wal-Mart. Several months after purchasing the TV, the screen went black, had sound and no picture. We contacted Wal-Mart, they informed us that they did not do TV repair or warranty work, we had to contact Polaroid. Polaroid contacted after several days of run around. They informed us that they would send a repair person to our home. A week or so later, a service man from Sears arrived and told us Sears did service for Polaroid. He checked the TV and informed us that we needed a computer board and we would have to order it from Polaroid. we did this and several weeks later, the part showed up. Sears contacted and several days later, the service man returned and replaced the part and the TV still did not work, service man said that was all he could do.
After several calls to Polaroid and getting the run around, we contacted Wal-Mart and after several threatening and very heated conversations with several managers at Wal-Mart, they contacted us and said Polaroid will be replacing the TV with another one. After several weeks, the new TV arrived in early Janauary 2008. Great TV and nice picture, we thought.
A week ago the screen went black and no picture, same problem as the other TVs. After searching the Consumers Affairs web site, we noticed hundreds of other ** that were ripped off and robbed by Polaroid. If the common person had done something like this, they would be in court and jail, and lose everything they had. What or who gives Polaroid the right to rob and cheat the honest hard working person that wants to provide something for their families.
If any class action suits come up against Polaroid, I hope I have knowledge of them. I have several cents worth of hatred to supply to them. This TV was purchased from a small inheritance from my wife's mother. She is very upset to think the last thing she received from her mother is a [bad product]. I took it to be fixed and was told that it was a "capacitor" which could only be ordered from Polaroid for $560 and which is the only part that can be ordered for this type of TV from Polaroid. How the heck can the replacement part cost as much as the TV? It seems like Polaroid knows they have a problem with their TVs and are trying to capitalize on it.
I called the product support line and was told they have never had any complaints like this, and there is nothing they will do because it's out of warranty. I find this extremely hard to believe considering I've found thousands of complaints on here and through the Better Business Bureau. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was put on hold for 30 minutes only to be told there was not one available. I asked who I could escalate this to and was told that there was no recourse available.

We purchased a new Polaroid 26" TV combo from Walmart on July 5, 2008; we also purchased a 2 year extended warranty. On June 30, 2010 at 4:30am when we turned the TV on it caught on fire; the TV was burnt and ruined our entertainment center and the carpet. We contacted Jackson, Ohio Walmart and they told us they couldn't do anything about it because it was after the 90-day warranty.
We contacted the extended warranty company and they told us we would have to ship the TV back to them, pay for the shipping ourselves, send them a check for $300 and they would send us a refurbished TV. We told the warranty company that is not what their warranty which we purchased from Walmart states. They said they didn't care, that was what we had to do. Wal-Mart is selling customers false extended warranties because what they have in writing is not what the warranty company will do.
Also, you cannot ship anything that is hazardous after it has burnt and had a fire extinguisher taken to it. Walmart knows that. We contacted Jackson, OH Walmart again and they told us there was nothing they could do and hung up on us. So here we are with no TV and a TV that was less than 2 years old when it burnt. Also after checking the Internet and also told by Walmart they quit selling this TV right after we bought one because of the problems with the TV being a fire hazard. Walmart knows people's houses could burn down and has done nothing about it and still refuses to replace our TV. We contacted the manufacturer of the TV "Proview" and they will not do anything either.
They said it is up to Walmart even though they also know there is a possible fire hazard with this particular TV. Proview also stated that they have quit manufacturing the TV as well and they could not refund our money nor replace the TV. This is wrong and illegal in our eyes. Why did we purchase the extended warranty then? It doesn't do what it says it does and Walmart will not answer those questions either. So how can we get our TV and things replaced?

It appears that because of the heat, it caused a dark mark on the screen. Fortunately, I was able to remove the player to prevent further damage in case it did cause the mark. Then about a month and a half ago, the screen went black as if it was turned off but the power button was blue (as if turned on) and there is volume, I can even change the channels and hear the TV, just no picture. It did go black before, so I turned the TV off and it worked; only this time it is for good. After researching a solution I came across a site that claims that it may be bad capacitors due to poor quality. Apparently Polaroid are notorious for this. Maybe this should be considered as a recall since there are so many problems resulting from poorly made Polaroid LCD TVs. I bought The TV because of the name thinking it would be a superior product. Walmart still wouldn't help me at all and I worked there part-time and people returned stuff all the time and walked out with new Xboxes, TVs, stereos, you name it, and they did not have a receipt. So I don't work there anymore and Polaroid has given me the run-around. We need a class action suit. I've never spent $1200 on a TV that was used too little. BTW, I bought two other flat screen LCD TVs a year before the Polaroid, and the Sharp and Magnavox work perfectly, and they're now almost 7 years old.

We bought our 32" Polaroid LCD TV from Walmart about two and a half years ago. The built in DVD player worked for about a month and we brought it back to Walmart and they switched it for another one. Two months later, the new one did the same thing. We figured since the TV had a good picture we'd deal with it. Tonight while we were watching TV, it started smoking and went black in the middle and eventually went off. We are going to have to buy a new TV or get one used. I'm thinking a used TV, couldn't be any worse than a Polaroid brand new. We really hoped this TV would last a long time. I would never buy a product made by Polaroid again. This is very disappointing and I would love to get involved with a class action suit. This TV cost us $680 and a little over two years later, we have to purchase a new one. This big investment (to us it is big) should have lasted us a lot longer.

I have read that the capacitors go out on these Polaroids. Let’s hope for Polaroid’s sake this is the problem. Still, where has the quality in a product gone? I chased Polaroid for the full warranty period and they never made any repair. I received a part in the mail from somebody (no Polaroid markings, address, etc.) and I now assume that it had something to do with the TV, but I took two different days off from work as they said they would send a repairman to fix it, but they never did. After that, there was no response to e-mail, phone or letter.
TV is now a couple of years old and when I turned it on the other night, the screen was jet black, no picture at all. Since Polaroid wouldn't even live up to their warranty when it was new, I definitely can't expect anything now. Worse part is I did an extensive online search for a repair center that fixes Polaroid and can't even find one of those in NYS. I had loss of the TV after spending a lot of money for its purchase. I purchased this specifically because I was led to believe that Polaroid had a long standing record as being a fine, upstanding American company.

I phoned Polaroid to get the necessary replacement part that they no longer make but they were happy to sell me another unit for $300+ with a 90-day warranty (a refurbished unit, no doubt). Still no picture and when I called them back, I was told that the part is a "re-manufactured" part and that the only thing they would do is refund the shipping cost because I purchased the part "as is". I am certain no one ever told me the part was not a new part.
What a scam, get the old part, someone sends it back, turn around and ship it out to another poor sucker who will pay another $123.00 for the part plus shipping of $100.00. Not a bad deal! They get to keep the money I sent for the "refurbished" part. I paid $40.00 to UPS to return it and get $100.00 back. So the net result to me is that, I spend $145 for nothing! I believe a class action lawsuit is in order. Too many people spent too much money for a piece of junk and poor warranty service after the sale. Polaroid should try to make it right. The product was obviously defective to begin with. I talked with a supervisor who told me that my only recourse was to sue. What an attitude! The TV is useless. I have looked everywhere for a repair manual and a power supply board for my model, which is TLX-04011C. No one has the part, the repair manual or a parts list. I just want everyone to know, who has filed complaints about this brand, that now it's impossible to get these TVs repaired. If attorneys are reading these, please contact me about a lawsuit to Proview, Polaroid and Walmart. Walmart has known problems exist with the Polaroid TVs and have continued to sell them until just recently. They continued selling them and the sales clerks in that department talked these units up stating that this was a good TV and I would enjoy it for a long time to come.
I don't know, but isn't this an implied warranty making Walmart responsible for this TV along with Polaroid and Proview in California. It sure would be nice if any of these companies would offer money back or a new TV of a different brand. I certainly don't want to waste money repairing it when so many have problems with them working after being repaired.

Therefore, I lost $813.00. It seems that Polaroid would have had this insured since they requested I send it back and since they placed the call ticket with UPS. I should have received a new TV and the fight to cover the cost should be between Polaroid and UPS. It also took them from May to August to tell me that there was nothing they could do. The least they could have done was send the broken TV back. They probably fixed it and resold it to someone else or fixed it and gave it to one of their employees. Two years later, as I sat watching TV, smoke started billowing out of back of it. When I called Polaroid, they said this was common for this model: TDA 03211C. If I hadn't of been home, I shudder to think my house could of burned down never to have known the cause.
Polaroid offered to fix for $250.00 plus labor. After reading the blogs regarding Polaroid TVs, I see that I am not the only one and that this is a common occurrence with their TVs. One blogger suggested a Class Action Suit and I am in complete agreement. We should all have our TVs replaced or monetary settlement.

Polaroid undoubtedly has someone else build the TV for them, it is their responsibility to ensure the quality of the product by guaranteeing that the superiority specs of the build are met. The business practices that are being employed by Polaroid and other companies in today's market is simply a reflection of the personality and business style of the management that runs the company: shallow, dishonest, greedy and without honor.

In Nov 2007, we bought 2 32" Polaroid TVs at Wal-Mart on Black Friday for $448+/piece. I never buy extended warranties but this time, I did for $28/piece, thank goodness. In Oct 09, one of the TVs had smoke billowing out the top. 2 days ago, the other one did the same thing but this time, we were gone and probably lucky to have a place to return to. It was also the day I felt the latest earthquake here in CA.
Both TVs are still under warranty so I’m sure this TV will be repaired as the 1st one was. In addition to time and anger were out about $11 each to have UPS pick them up as they won't fit in our car. Tonight, I find this website with 59 pages of complaints. If there isn't a recall or class action suit there should be. I, too, like all the folks stood by what I thought was a reputable name and purchased an HDTV-TLAO15C model Polaroid flat screen TV that also doubles as a widescreen for computer usage. What absolute garbage. These people should have stuck to the process of cheap film for a disposable camera business. Just leave the TV making business to those companies that have a *** good product like Sony. These TVs last beyond 15 years or better and best of all, they stand by their products. They do not hide behind extensions with voicemail service that never gets returned. What a joke.
I now see why Walmart no longer carries their *** and very few Targets as well. I am out $250 but I won't stop until these idiots are out of business. The audacity to ignore the replies of your valued and trusted consumers that had faith in your name enough to buy your experimental slideshow you call a TV. Consumer Affairs must act. This is a disgrace to have this many complaints about the same product and no company representative to return your calls. The TV gets powered on. The picture and audio are fine for about three minutes then your screen goes completely black. No picture, only audio is what you have.

The part came and the repair technician came out a few days later to put in the new part only to find out that Polaroid sent out the wrong part--so that one got sent back and another part sent out.
A few days later, the part came and a few days after, the repair technician returned to replace the part. The repair technician replaced the part and recommended that we purchased a different type of surge protected, one that has surge protection and filtering. So we purchased an APC Power Saving Back-ups to help protect our investment. This is a Polaroid television, but when you call their phone number, it is called Proview. In June 2009, I spoke with a Walmart representative about problems with my television. We were told that it was past their warranty period and we would have to deal with the manufacturer. On June 28, I called Polaroid and spoke with a Proview customer service rep about problems we were experiencing with the television. The set was under warranty. The problems with the television were both HDMI inputs were bad and the unit would not turn off with either remote or push button on set. We had to pull the power cable out of the wall. Also, the volume control was not working properly. There's a long pause in volume going up or down using both remote and buttons on television.
On June 30, 2009, I faxed in a copy of the original purchase receipt to Monica. Between June 30 and July 30, we waited two weeks for the shipping box to arrive. After we received the box, we had to call back and tell Proview that the television had been packed properly. Proview then sent the shipping label. On July 15, we received shipping box from Proview and on the 28th, the shipping label, and have shipped the television via UPS on July 30. On September 9, I spoke with a customer service rep and was told by the rep that the television we sent in was damaged during shipment. However, Proview would file a claim with UPS and we would receive a new television as soon as they were done moving from one warehouse location to another.
The new replacement was sitting on a dock in a shipyard and the approximate shipping date was September 25. I did not ask for employee name- big mistake. On October 6, I still hadn't received the replacement set, so I spoke with supervisor Patricia, ext. 3892. She explained that we would not be receiving a new set, that we would receive a refurbished set. Patricia said that she didn't know who would have said such a thing about us receiving a new set because they only repair defective sets at their facility. Patricia also said the reason that we still hadn't received our replacement was because the parts needed to repair our set were delayed getting to their warehouse from the dock.
Patricia also said, "These are the models that we've been having a lot of problems with." She stated that we were lucky to have only waited this long, that others have waited for their televisions for a longer period of time. On October 15, I received the replacement set, only to find out after setting it up, it was damaged during shipment. So the next day, the 16th, I called supervisor Patricia, and left message about the condition of the set. I left my name, phone number, and rma#, but no return call. On October 16, I called the main phone number and spoke with customer service rep, Mr. O. explained the condition of the set and he asked for photographs, saying that it sounded like the television was damaged during shipping.
I emailed him photos of the damaged set, along with name, phone number, and rma#. Again, no return call. On October 27, I sent a second email to Mr. O, that included the same photos, name, phone number, and rma#. He returned my email saying, "Dear customer,Your TV will need to come back so we need to replace it so please have it ready back in to the box and we will be sending you UPS prepaid labels by regular mail, you put them on the box and drop it off to UPS location, sorry for this inconvenient, thank you for your time."
On November 2, I received the shipping label and I shipped the damaged television on the 4th. On November 10, UPS tracking showed Proview received the television. On December 15, I called at 4:40 p.m. (cdt) and spoke with Osiel. According to Osiel, no progress had been made or action taken in regards to the television being received by Proview. He sent an email to the warehouse supervisor, requesting an update on the status of claim and to request a replacement be sent as soon as possible. Osiel sent the email to the warehouse supervisor while we were talking on phone. He also said he would forward the return email from the warehouse supervisor to update me on the status of the claim.
Osiel checked my email address and phone number to make sure they were correct. I asked for his last name or ID number and he said there was no need to give me his last name because no one else at the company was named Osiel. No return email! On December 15 at 4:59 p.m. (cdt), after speaking with Osiel, I called supervisor Patricia, and left a message with my name, phone number, and rma #. I requested an update on the status of the returned television. Again, no return call. On December 28 at 4:10 p.m. (pdt), I spoke with Monica. I asked for an update regarding the television and she said they were waiting for parts from the warehouse. There were not any parts in stock to repair the television and the parts had to come from China.
When I asked for a time frame on receiving the parts, I couldn't get a straight answer from her and when I asked, "Would it be a couple of months?", she said "maybe". I also told her I spoke with Osiel on the 15th and was still waiting for an email from him regarding the status of my television. When I asked why Osiel or Proview doesn't keep their customers updated on the status of repairs, Monica told me that they did not have the manpower to make or return calls or emails, that they only are able to receive calls when a customer called in. When I asked Monica if it was an acceptable business practice to not inform their customers of the status of their claim or to take over six months to repair a television, she would not give me an answer.
I also asked for her last name or ID number and she said she informed me that she didn't have an employee number and she wasn't going to give me her last name because they all know who she is. After I asked these two questions, she became rude and short with me repeating, "There is nothing I can do, do you want to speak with my supervisor?". I asked if the supervisor was Patricia and she said, "Yes, she is the only supervisor. " I was transferred to Patricia's voicemail, I left a message requesting information concerning my claim and left my name, phone number, and rma #. As usual, no return call!

I called Polaroid and they said that the warranty has now expired and they can send a repair man out for $250.00. I knew I should have went with Vizio. I just thought with a name like Polaroid, how could I go wrong? Now I know you don't get to be that big by always doing the right thing or making the most quality product.

My daughter who has special needs purchased a 15.4" television/Polaroid TLA-O1511c HD Wide LCD from Walmart 3-21-08. By the first part of July 2009, she started having problems with it, losing the picture only having sound. I tried contacting Polaroid support. They mechanically responded and never did anything further. So she has a TV that does not work and is out about $250. It's pretty sad when a company that size does not value their customers and stand behind their merchandise. She has a useless television that is only 2 years old. Apparently we are not the only ones dealing with this issue or with Polaroid.

I purchased a 32" Polaroid TV from Walmart in November 2007. And in April 2008, the DVD player went out and in November 2009 the TV went blank. When I called the representative of the company, I was told that I would need to pay $250 for in-service repair. I thought she was crazy and asked for the president of the company and was told that there wasn't one. I am out of a new TV ($600). Where do I turn to? I am out of $600 and cannot afford another TV due to unemployment and a broken leg.

I purchased a 32-inch flat screen Polaroid TV about a year ago. Two weeks ago, the screen just went blank. The warranty is recently expired. I recently was informed that Polaroid has filed bankruptcy and went out of business. Consequently, I am without the $800.00 that I paid for the TV and currently, I cannot afford to purchase another.

My Polaroid 2700b HDTV broke last November. It had been having some problems since last April. It cost $250 to repair, and they have already sent two new boards for it, but the issue is still unresolved. I asked to get my money back and they flatly refused.
Two months later, I am out $250, and I still don't have a working television now. I just want to know if there is anything that can be done for people in my situation.

I wish I found this site before I bought my Polaroid widescreen, model FLM 2601. It's three years old and dead, and like others have commented, my 30 year old tube TV still works. Government is part of scam to require everyone to switch to digital; we replace a working TV with a Jap/Chinese TV. American money is going out for junk. The only way to fight corporate service, no service is to call over and over, day after day. Don't be shy; explain why you are calling and that you will keep calling tying up the phone line and operators until they are willing to do the right thing. When you had tens, hundreds of people call something is going to happen, even if it's only a nuisance, you might feel better. Buy American.

Our TV, which was purchased last February 2008, has no picture but with sound. I do not know who to contact regarding this. It seems that something you paid over $700.00 for should last longer than two years.

I have had a 32" Polaroid LCD for less than two years, and as I can see from other posts I am not the only one who has come home to find that their expensive television has no sound. Congrats, Polaroid. You certainly give "planned obsolescence" a whole new meaning. I'm out over $700 and unable to afford a new T.V. for the household at this time. I was under the impression that when you make a $700 investment, the product you’re purchasing lasts a little longer than 2 years.

I recently called Polaroid CS dept. I wanted to know where my $100.00 deposit on the defective part to fix my TV that they legally owe me was. Remember this, when you dial the Polaroid 800 number and get to customer service, you are talking to a rep. from Summit Technologies Group. I got fed up with dealing with incompetent idiots. I finally found the corporate number for Summit Tech. which happens to be at the same address as their warehouse. I finally talked to a corporate rep. who told me that I haven't received my $100.00 because I was not on their list of people to receive a refund. I finally got my $100.00 back.
The problem we as consumers are having is due to misdirection. I ask, please don't give up. That is what they, Polaroid and Summit Technologies, want. I just yesterday purchased a new TV which I really can't afford. Please people, don't give up! I was loosing sleep. I don't like being taking advantage of. I'm broke this month and mad.

We bought a 37" Polaroid FLM373B from Walmart about 3 years ago. Blue light went on but there is no screen or sound. We paid about $1,000 and it's a worthless piece of junk. Reading all the problems online, I won't even bother getting it fixed - it's going to the dump! Polaroid sucks and Walmart needs to step up to the plate and stop carrying all Polaroid crap!

I was doing a search for Polaroid TV to see if anybody else was having problems and if there was an easy fix. It looks to me like the only fix is to throw away the set. I have the 32" LCD set and was watching when it shut off by itself. It was the first time it happened, so I never thought anything about it until I went to turn it on again and nothing happened like the hundreds of complaints you already posted. I am willing to take part in an action suit. No wonder they call it Black Friday. Wal-Mart and all the other companies who carry this brand should be ashamed.

I purchased a Polaroid FLM 2632 flat model television in around Christmas of 2007. Less than one year after we purchased the TV (around Christmas of 2008), the circuit board on the back fried out. After wrangling with customer service, I was able to take it to a local repair shop and the TV was repaired at no cost. However, now it is Christmas of 2009 and I come to find that the tuner is bad. This is important since we've decided to drop our cable and go with digital antenna free service. I called the support line, only to be told that for $225 they would send me a new back piece for the television to fix the broken tuner. What really ticks me off is that I bet this tuner was broken back in 2008 and wasn't fixed the first time around (back when the TV was under warranty).
Worst of all, I paid over $500 for a TV that has had two major problems in less than two years. Now that's quality workmanship. You won't see me purchasing a Polaroid TV again anytime soon.

I purchased a 26 inch LCD television FLM 2632 model at a Circuit City Store on 10/03/06. I was watching the TV and it made a loud noise and went black. The blue light was all that was on. The TV would not cut on or off and would not do anything. I am really disappointed that the television didn’t last, but three years. When I purchased the television I thought I was buying a well-known brand that was reliable and would last more than three years. I paid $699.00 plus tax, and I would think that I could have gotten years of service from the TV.
I took the television to an authorized (or used to be an authorized) repairman. He stated that he quit repairing Polaroids because the parts were too expensive to make repairs. He quoted me a price of $254.00 to $300.00 to repair the television, which is out of the question. I would not pay that much to repair a television when you can now buy a new one for almost the same as to have repaired. Since the cost to repair the TV was as much as a new TV, I had to purchase a new TV to replace the Polaroid. I did not purchase another Polaroid, and would not recommend anyone purchasing this brand.

The same as everyone else, last Christmas, our 37" flat screen began with the audio problems. I got the answer from Polaroid, “send us 239 and we will send a tech out to fix.” I said no thanks and told them what I thought of a $1,400.00 TV that lasted 2 years when I have a 20" in the bedroom that I bought in 1984 that still "works". They are totally unwilling to respond or help. Now I understand why every TV was sub-standard and basically junk. The consumer law departments should proceed to help us with this type of situation - major name in the industry and the poorest quality product at a competitive price. "We got ripped-off."

It has been eight days since they said they would ship a new part and expedite the process. I called to find out the status of my order and they said that when the first person set up for the correct part to be shipped to me, they forgot to close the ticket and that he would need to escalate it to his manager. He put me on hold. I was on hold for about five minutes and then I was hung up on. This has been the longest two to three business days in the history of business days. I called back and they told me that I would have to wait until Monday to find out if they would even send me the part. I am already out $250 for the repair. They got that money on November 23 and here it is December 18, I am no closer to having the part I ordered for the faulty TV they sold me. It will be the 21st by the time I even find out when they will ship the part.
