I bought a 54" Plasma 1080P from Sears in January 2010. It lasted until November 2011, with the loud pop and 7 blinking light issue. Panasonic could not care less, as they sent me to a local repair shop, who quoted a fix that was more than I paid for the replacement Sharp TV (with a 6" larger screen) I bought to replace this piece of junk. I have used Matsushita electronics for years (Technics and Panasonic), but will never buy this brand again. If there is a class-action suit for these things, I'm in!

I just turned on my less than 2-year old 50" Panasonic Viera plasma only to have it "pop" loudly along with a quick flash of the screen then just a blinking red light at the bottom center of the display. It looks like this is a common problem and I'm going to get the runaround from Panasonic. This is the last TV I'll buy from them. I hope someone files a class action lawsuit. After a little searching, this seems to be a wide spread problem.

My 42" plasma TV popped really loudly and shut off, blinking 10 times. I had only had the TV one day short of 13 months. They want me to take it to a certified repair shop, which will charge me $75 deposit, just to give me a diagnosis. I don't have that kind of money to just throw away.

We purchased the Panasonic Viera 50" G20 600HZ Plasma TV on September 4, 2010 for $1,099.99 from Best Buy. On December 29, 2011, 15 months after the purchase and without an extended warranty, the TV suddenly quit working and we saw the "10 flashing lights of death". We were referred by Best Buy to Panasonic, who in turn referred us to the only authorized repairman for Panasonic TV's in our area. After performing a diagnostic, we learned that the board in the television was bad, as well as the display. The total cost of repair would have been $1,467.52. Panasonic had initially offered $225.00 toward the repair of the television, but that was with an initial repair estimate of $467.52. This is clearly a manufacturing defect and a class action suit does seem warranted if Panasonic does not stand by its product.

I bought a Panasonic 50" plasma TV (TC-P50X1) in June of 2009. Just over two years later it won’t turn on and I get 10 red blinking lights. When I called Panasonic’s customer service they said there was nothing they could do other than refer me to an "authorized" repair shop in my area to have a diagnostic done on the TV. I called the repair shop and found out that it would be at least $60 just to have the diagnostic ran and then another $400-$500 to fix the 1-3 boards that could be bad. So I could pay almost $600 to fix this TV or spend that much on a brand new TV (different brand of course). After researching this brand on the internet, it seems like there are a lot of customers out there having the same problem. Panasonic should replace the power supply boards as a result of the thousands of consumers with the same issue. These televisions are not cheap and Panasonic is aware of these problems but fail to stand behind their product. If there is going to be a class action suit, sign me up!

The TV was bought on Sept. 22, 2011. That is 6 months ago and it’s now doing nothing but blinking 11 times, the power light. After a few calls with Panasonic Support, they told me that the cost for the repair is going to be 590 USD, even when the monitor is under warranty! Well, if that wasn't bad enough, the cost for the new TV is 325 USD.

Is Panasonic really proud of its plasma masterpieces? I came across this site accidentally when I was looking for my problem in net. After a lot of research for finding appropriate TV, eventually I chose Panasonic 3d plasma TV ST30. After only 6 months, the TV died with a blinking red indicator. I called Panasonic agent in Iran and also service center but all the technicians told me that I could pay for the electronic boards of power supply. The costs were so different. It is so weird that the highest cost was for official agent of Panasonic in Iran about 500,000 Romans which is about $400 US dollars. Besides, as the technicians said, all plasma TV's of Panasonic go to death after maximum 2 years because of this failure in power supply board. I am so furious about Panasonic and recommend all the visitors not to buy Panasonic products because of disrespect to its customers.

I bought a Panasonic Plasma TV 50U1 in November 2010 and it died in February 2012. Over $1100 and all it got me was 1 year and 2 months! It's either another defective power supply or video board, but it will cost more to repair than a new one! This is a total scam by Panasonic and I hope it comes back to bite them in the **! I will never purchase another Panasonic product again and will make sure everyone I know does the same.
I'm an electronics buff and read up on this product a lot before I bought it, but I guess I didn't do enough research! My fault that I did not come across all of these recurring problems with Panasonic Plasmas before I purchased mine and I'll have to live with that, but I will not make the same mistake twice. Too bad it cost me upwards of $1100 to learn that, but I will make certain that others learn from my mistake! Thanks for nothing Panasonic!

Well, just like everyone else here I've had my Panasonic th-46pz80U for just over three years. I purchased it in February of 2009 from Costco after returning a failed Vizio TV with similar problems after just 20 days. I was just talking to my fiancee about how I've never had any issues with this Panasonic TV and the day I go and upgrade my receiver and turn off the TV, I get the 10x flashing red lights. However, after unplugging HDMI cable and power cables TV will turn on after about 2 minutes and work fine until I turn it off and try to turn it back on again. I haven't called tech support, but doesn't even think I should waste my time, given all the problems everyone is getting from customer support. This is unacceptable, I've had a 42 inch Phillips LCD that I've had 2 years before the Panasonic and it has worked flawlessly since date of purchase.
I'll deal with this issue until I can afford to buy another TV from another manufacturer. I spent $1100 on this set and I'm not spending $700 to fix it. Especially since I seen a 60 LED TV on sale for $999.99 and projection set for $1199.99 which comes with a 92 inch screen. Hopefully, some kind of class action lawsuit can be brought up on them for not standing behind their products, and you can definitely put my name on it. I treat all of my tech gear with the utmost care, so this problem just arising on it's own is ridiculous. And the fact that it is so wide spread is disgusting.

I behold a last ray of hope which is why I decide to narrate my grievance to you and anticipate that the higher authorities of the so called multinational giant (Panasonic India) would ponder asymptotically and do the needful.
I purchased a Panasonic Plasma TV (Model 42V20) from Paarth Electrotech Dwarka Delhi on 09/03/2011. For the past few days, I have been beholding an extremely hazy and blurred picture, with faulty primary color mixing. As a matter of fact, this particular TV set had exhibited a series of such problems earlier too. (Please refer to the complaints through mails of 14/05/2011, 15/05/2011, 16/05/2011, 17/05/2011 and 18/05/2011 and a complaint no. 014055.) The faults prevailed even after the visit of Mr. Ashvini ** of Panasonic India, however, on his assurance of complete care of the TV in future, I continued with this set.
When the picture quality and the colors combination got deteriorated to zero tolerance level, I registered a complaint with the company (mail dated 18/01/2012 ref. no. PI-CS-1201-012944, and a complaint No 0410070). Consequently, a technician Mr. ** from I-Care workshop visited my premises on 19/01/2012 to examine the TV set. He agreed that the color amalgamation was faulty, but transferred the blame on airtel, however, I had already called the airtel technician on a paid visit to check the connection/signal quality/signal strength and everything was found to be perfect. I requested him to get my comments on the job sheet but he replied in the negative.
Meanwhile, my three mails to the company and several calls to the customer care were ignored and after a tiresome perusal, I got a call from Mr. ** of Panasonic India but by then I had gone for short holidays. I requested Mr. ** to visit on 27/01/2012 to examine the TV set. I was shocked to receive an SMS from the service center (I-Care) on 23/01/2012 that the work against the complaint number 0410070 has been completed to my satisfaction. This implies as if the service engineer had either accomplished the task by a magic stick or would have broken the lock of my premises to complete the job. This exhibits an utter mess and unprofessional attitude of the service center authorized by Panasonic.
Surprisingly there are only two modes of contact with this company for a grieving customer namely, customer care call center 1-860-/1-800-, and email ***@in.panasonic.com. I have contacted both these channels 16 times (11 calls and 5 emails) since 18/01/2012 without any revert from the company and could not go beyond that. The head office and the registered office contact numbers +91- and +91-, respectively are never picked up as I tried these for innumerable number of times without success. It is a huge shame on Panasonic that the top service officials are unapproachable as if they are Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh: omnipotent but invisible.
The visit of Mr. *** on 27/01/2012 was a terrible experience for us. During his nearly 30 minutes stay at my premises in front of the TV set, he tried his level best to be-fool me and my wife and attempted to falsely prove that the color mixing was correct though his first impression was that the TV screen was reddish, which in fact is and can be verified. Like Mr. ** of I-Care, Mr. ** too refused to get my signatures on the job sheet, certainly by dint of the perplex of my remarks about the defective TV.
I contacted the customer care manager Ms. *** (phone *** provided to me by an executive of call center) on 28/01/2012 and categorically told her that the set was defective and requested her to help me. She assured me that a visit of an engineer will be arranged but as usual no body came. May I mention here that we are watching a faulty TV by spending Rs. 65000/- and the call center refuses to talk to me now and the helpline as usual ignores my mails. I request you to intervene so that I may not be put into anymore hardship.

I purchased a Panasonic TH-42PZ80U 42-inch plasma TV in November of 2008. Luckily, I also purchased an extended warranty policy. I was very happy with it until July of 2011, when the problem started: the 10 blinking lights of death. The first couple of times I could get it to work by unplugging it for a period, then plugging it back in. $1200.00 for a TV that lasted just under 3 years? Anyway, I figured the warranty doesn't expire for several months, so no problem. The warranty company (and that's a whole other saga) sent a local service technician to check it out. Yeah, it's the power supply. It should be here in a couple of weeks.
Well, of course you've heard the story before, the part is on back order from Panasonic, which means it is no longer available. According to him, they put out a new model about twice a year, which tells me that they no longer manufacture parts for units that are over a year old. Great customer service! He was unable to locate the part from any of his suppliers. I was finally issued a check for a replacement set by the warranty company after almost four months. Ridiculous! Needless to say, that money went toward the purchase of a different make of TV. I'll never again purchase any Panasonic product.

Doesn't appear that Panasonic cares if its customers are taken care of or not. First, they dump products on the market that are clearly defective. Panasonic said I needed to go to different 'certified' repair place and have it re-evaluated again, at my expense, and if they concur with first evaluation they 'may' help out with 'some' of the cost. They made no effort to stand behind their product or keep me as a customer. This problem with power supplies and video boards going bad after 1-2 years of ownership seems to be common. Have Panasonic 46" 1080p Plasma HDTV model TH-C46FD18. I bought in December 2008. It was working fine until 12-21-11, and then would not turn on for any apparent reason. It had a red blinking light on front. It blinked 10 times, then a pause & repeat. Researched on web and found this to be a common problem with Panasonic TVs. Called Company where it was purchased, no help. Called Panasonic & lady were aware of the problem but said there had been no recalls. She instructed me to call a certified Panasonic tech, of which none where local. Then they had to fax Panasonic a report of problem and maybe, Panasonic would help since it was out of warranty.
I understand that products don't last but it appears from research and speaking to lady that Panasonic knew that the HDMI 1 & 2 ports would eventually go bad on some TV's yet still sold the product. After complaining that I didn't want to pay for a tech to diagnosis the problem, the lady told me to unplug the HDMI 1 and also unplug from the outlet. Then wait 30 seconds, plug back in outlet then plug into HDMI 3. It worked and I asked the lady to explain why, she said it had to do with the right specifications and this problem does happen with some of the Panasonic TV's.
My daughter got on the phone and asked her to explain the specifications and the lady could not, nor could she find us a supervisor. She said one would call me in two days but has not. The ladies attitude changed when I questioned how she knew what the problem was and how she knew how to fix it. She started to back pedal and stated she never said she knew what the problem was. She then kept telling me that I had to call a certified tech because I was out of warranty. TV worked again, until we went to use the DVD and it was back to blinking red lights. After checking web, I unplugged again everything this time waited about an hour and it works.
I don't want to have to do this every time I use TV. A costly purchase like this should last beyond 3 years. I feel Panasonic should take responsibility for their product and reimburse for a new TV, knowing that problems were likely to occur. I also think that the lady I spoke to wasn't suppose to tell me how to fix the problem because it was out of warranty and when she did and I asked a few questions, got nervous and changed her tune. The problem started late 12-21-11, called Panasonic 12-22-11; TV went out again on 12-26-11, which is today.

So far for me, holding down the power button on the side of the TV for a few seconds and then releasing the button will make my TV come on and stay on. I have a 37" Panasonic TV that I purchased 4 years ago. I have just started having the blinking light/TV turns off problem. It only happens when I turn the TV on the first time for the day, so I know it's not a 'heat' issue. It turns on, I hear what's on the TV but no picture, and then the TV turns off. That's when I get up, hold the power button down on the side of the TV for a few seconds, release the button and the TV comes on and stays on, until a few days later and same problem. I'm going to be really pissed if my $400 plus Panasonic TV is toast in less than 5 years of use and it's only on a few hours a day! Panasonic used to be such a high quality product.

I was told I was only entitled to a repair to which I was not amused. Surely, when still under guarantee, I wanted a replacement and not a repair was told it would be repair contacted head office with an email got phone call. Next day, I was told it was being looked into and told her the same thing: I didn’t want repair and I wanted a replacement. I was told that the manager of store had to authorize this. It literally was about two weeks out of warranty! From the investigating I have done on the internet, there are a lot of complaints on these TVs! I will be calling Panasonic tomorrow to complain. Something needs to be done, like a class action lawsuit by the Attorney General for defective merchandise and/or fraud for claiming to have a quality product with internal parts that fail too often! Now, I have a TV that doesn't work that is out of warranty and that I will probably have to pay to fix! That is just wrong!

This is a 5 star piece of junk. I bought it on 12/2/11. There are already 10 blinking lights as of 12/13/11, which is the error code for "video board bad". Anything that has a one year warranty, you must buy an extended warranty, or just buy something else. I called Best Buy, and they set up an appointment with the worst appliance company the state ever gave a license to. The tech called to set up an appointment to fix the unit. I asked him if he had any video boards on his truck. He asked why, and I told him that 10 blinking lights means the video board is bad. He said no, that's power supply. I told him power supply is 7 blinking lights, so make sure you have both boards before showing up at my house. Side note, my DISH Network HD VIP 722k DVR box started having issues around the same time as above. I replaced that too. Maybe a bad neutral in one, that caused the other.

We bought a 50 inch Plasma TC-P50S30, on November 25, 2011 (Black Friday). It was delivered on November 30, 2011. On December 10, 2011, with exactly 10 days of use, the TV shut off while we were watching, and did not turn back on, giving the "blinking light of death" seven times. Thinking we just had bad luck, we called Panasonic, and after 30 minutes on hold, and 20 minutes of talking with several technicians, who made us move around the TV, to "try different outlets", the result was a repair appointment, set up for 5 days later. Just deciding to Google Panasonic problems, I discovered this, and several other blogs and sites, with people claiming to have similar shut off problems from TVs purchased around 2007-2009.
Fortunately we had the issue arise early, and it is still under warranty, and we can still return it. Clearly, this is a problem that has not been fixed over time by Panasonic in newer models. I'm thinking we're just going to return it, and get something else, rather than risk it breaking again in another year! My parents have the exact same TV and have had no problems, and we've had several other Panasonic TVs, and I thought it was a good and reputable brand. We did a lot of research into our purchase, and Consumer Reports rated this TV very highly, and flagged no issues with Panasonic as a company. Clearly, this is not the case, and more attention needs to be paid to this problem so that others can avoid making bad purchases!
We spent time dealing with Panasonic technicians on the phone for an hour, and having to miss work, so they can schedule a repair appointment to try to fix it. We will likely just return the TV and get something else. It was quite a hassle!

I unplugged it, checked the batteries in the remote, and still it would not turn on. I went online with Panasonic, and explained the issue the light was blinking 10 times. He had me unplug it from the surge protector, and a few assorted things, and still the TV would not turn on. He told me he could order a service repair but I opted not to. I then Googled Panasonic Plasma blinking light, and was sickened by what I saw. This is not an isolated problem. Here is one of the sites:
I feel sick that I spent $1,100.00 on a TV that barely made it 2 years. The only time I have spent this much on an appliance, is for my refrigerator. The cost to fix is approximately $500.00, and from what I read there is no guarantee. I do not understand how they get away with this, and just wash their hands on all the consumers who bought this TV in good faith, and now are stuck with a high repair bill, and/or a TV that cannot be repaired. They know there is a problem, yet they look the other way like Toyota did.
I cannot afford to have this repaired or replaced. If I had unlimited resources, I would buy some billboards to warn people about this situation. Is there anything you can do to help? Is there a government agency that monitors this type of horrible behavior?

I purchased a Panasonic 52" Rear Projection DLP/LCD Model PT-52LCX35 a little over 2 years ago. About a month ago, I started seeing a blue blotch/spot about the size of a baseball. Considering, we were close to Black Friday, I thought, maybe it was time to replace it. A few weeks later, a 2nd spot appeared, and another week later, spot #3. Since we didn't buy a replacement TV, I decided to search my issue by its model number. Lo and Behold, there were many other people who experienced the same issue.
The fix for this is a simple 15-20 minutes visit by an authorized service center. The tech does an EEPROM update and voila, problem fixed. Apparently, this particular problem is due to corrupting files in the firmware and an EEPROM update corrects this. So I decided to look for my receipt for exact dates and to call Panasonic. I was forwarded to 7 different representatives only to find that I was transferred to the wrong department. Out of the 7 reps, I only understood 1 of them. I was also on eternal hold (about 45 minutes), only to be disconnected. I called in again, explained my issue and was transferred to Panasonic security camera support. No help there. One more try and spoke to someone that finally started to take my contact information. After spending 2 hours on the phone, the rep couldn't do more than to offer a 15% loyalty discount on purchasing another qualified TV!
Why would anyone buy another TV after such a horrible experience! After reading blogs from other people who said that Panasonic covered this one-time fix, I thought I had some luck on my side. That was not the case. I finally spoke to a supervisor who said that I can call the local service center and have a tech evaluate the TV and to fax the report to their processing center. I would be responsible for the evaluation fee and there would no guarantee that the processing department would approve the repair.
This is a known issue with this product line and model that Panasonic is no longer covering! I will not be getting another Panasonic anything again!

If I unplugged it and then plugged it back in after a short wait then it would at least try. It stopped working about four weeks ago. I also noticed that there was the smell of smoke. I called Panasonic. The wait was too long. I sent them an email from their website. I got a reply several days later with the request that I call back and wait for an agent. They gave me a local repair center to contact.
Because the minimum cost of repair from the authorized service center was $285, I have decided to investigate on my own the cause of the failure. I found it hard to believe that an electronics component in an LCD would smoke. I have had numerous TV and computer monitors over the last 20 years and I have never had one break. We are using another TV that is 19-years-old and still working fine.
I took the Panasonic LCD TV off the wall and took the back off. I found the part that is defective by turning the TV and looking for flames and smelling for the smoke. I have attached a picture to indicate the part that is the problem. The little flames looked better in the video I took to help me figure out which part it was. It is the upper of the two parts on the left of the left board labeled T970 N8L3A. You can see burn marks next to the corner by the red and two black/dark blue paint dots.
I was able to find a replacement circuit board from Shop Jimmy for $89.95. When I replaced the defective board with the new one, the Panasonic LCD TV came on and worked for 10 minutes before it turned itself off. It is clear that there was much more wrong with this TV than just the one circuit board catching on fire. I investigated this failure as extensively as possible so that I could learn from this mistake. I do not intend to make the same mistake the next time I spend $600 to $1000. I am not ready to do that again until I figure out how to avoid poor quality products.

Now, I have a $2,000 liability with only a 90-day guarantee. I'm furious because this is a known flaw and the consumer is being blatantly ripped off by the manufacturer. Somebody must be held accountable for selling known, defective products to unsuspecting consumers. What a waste. Even my car has a warranty longer than two years and I drive it everyday. I have a Panasonic LCD TV TH-50PZ80U. This set was purchased as our only television. We paid just over $2,000.000 in April 2008. In August 2011, I began to experience 2 blinking lights. I immediately contacted our insurance company. We elected to purchase a 3-year extended warranty, with the understanding that the first year was a manufacturer's warranty. This would give us a 4-year warranty in total.
The insurance company position is that the warranty started from Day 1. It is a complete fabrication but there is really nothing I can do. Assurant will not stand by the insurance I paid for. I am so sick about this, we cannot afford another television. To make matters worse, they say our warranty ran out in April 2011, instead of April 2012. It surged through the TVs (five TVs were hooked to it). All the others were okay, but this TV would shut off after a few seconds so I took it to two repairmen. The first one said that he couldn't even 'get into it.' The second one said basically the same thing.
He suspects that it was one of the boards and thinks that it can be repaired, but was told by Panasonic that he will have to buy the entire unit, for almost $900! He said that if he can get his voltage meter to the 'baseboard,' he can trace it down, but is unable to 'get into it' as well. He said that he found the individual boards for $130-$150 and if he can figure out a way to 'get into it' to test the individual boards, he can figure out which one(s) need replacing. If Panasonic thinks that by placing the parts out of reach, thus, making the consumer buy another TV, they are right. But we won't be buying one of theirs again.

I purchased my TC-50St30 Plasma HDTV on 4/24/11. Recently, the set has shown illuminated lines along the full length of its screen edges when HD Size 2 (no over scan) is used and brightness is moved above 54. Usually, the lines show up on one side edge and its adjacent top or bottom edge. They are clearly visible in a normally or dimly-lit room. This is reproducible on cable and Blu-Rays on all three HDMI inputs as well as the component cable input.
A technician dispatched by Panasonic on 9/1/11 clearly confirmed the problem and the cause (brightness control). He replaced the set's primary circuit board but this did not resolve the problem. After he filed his report, Panasonic told him and then me that this was a "normal operating condition" and blamed everything but their product. I know of no other ST plasma owner that has this problem.
At my local Frys, a Panasonic TC-46ST30 and TC-50GT50 were on display each with a dedicated Blu-Ray player running a Blu-Ray disc. I put each set into HD Size 2 and took their brightness level to 100% with no trace of the problem that exists on my set. Despite my telling Panasonic this, they are insisting that the set is "normal" and are refusing to address the issue further.
According to the company, I must accept using the HD Size 1 setting with its over scan and a 5% loss of image or if I want to use HD Size 2 and get the complete image with no loss, not push the brightness level above 54%.

We purchased 42" Panasonic Viera Plasma TV in June 2008 from Abt Electronics in Glenview, IL. About two years later, the TV would not turn on if you accidentally turned it off and it would do that whole red blinking light thing. We figured out that if you unplugged it for 20 minutes or so, it would work again. That lasted until June 2011, and finally, one day, it never turned back on.
Luckily, as I found out by reading here, I did have a four-year extended warranty. Abt came out and said that it was the power board. They replaced it about two weeks later because the part was on back order (of course). But we were satisfied because, at least, it was fixed. Now, just last night, we were watching TV and it just turned off. The lights are blinking again and it still didn't work this morning, even after being unplugged all night. So not only did Panasonic make a faulty TV, the replacement parts are faulty as well. Stores need to stop selling these TVs and that would force Panasonic to either fix the problem or face bigger problems. In the meantime, I am telling everyone I know not to buy the product because the salesmen obviously won't be honest about the problems.

Well, this is a continuation to my 8/13/11 complaint (listed earlier here). Andy (the owner from Gonzalez Electronic in Swansboro, NC) contacted me back about the issue and stated that he had got in contact with the regional Panasonic representative in our area... and had bad news. Come to find out, Panasonic had known about the current issues of the televisions. It had been a software glitch on their end, an EEPROM program error. Due to the fact that this program was so vast, they had been fixing the problems for customers (even outside of their warranty dates). The problem is that they stopped fixing this problem as of March 31, 2011 (a little over 4 months prior to my calls; this time, that is).
After hearing this, I informed him I would call him back and got back on the telephone (for the seventh time) with Panasonic. This time, I got numerous apologies but no fixes. I informed them that I had called Panasonic back around May to July of 2010 (not sure of exact date, but do know it was last year's summer) about the issue and was informed different responses since I spoke with different reps each time. The first notified me that the interior mirror might have smudges on it, causing the discoloration in the reflected picture. The next said the same thing but instead of the mirror, it was the interior of the screen itself. The guy had me so convinced that I even transferred to the Panasonic Parts Department to get a quote on one of their screens (almost 1200 dollars; half the price of a new TV so I declined the offer and contacted another rep). They all stated they were notating my account of the calls, so there's proof of these calls in their systems, mind you. The last rep had informed me the other reps were incorrect. That it was the picture's circuit board issue (another 1200 buck repair).
I had saved up enough for one of the TVs to be repaired. Once at the local repair shop, I was notified of the EEPROM problem in these televisions and how Panasonic was fixing the problem themselves. Which is why I was now in the position I was currently in, escalating this call to a manager. After escalating to a supervisor, I was offered a rebate for a Panasonic plasma TV. I explained I wouldn't be interested in paying more money for a plasma, that would no doubt be encompassed with the "Red Light of Death". I asked for a manager's supervisor and got a lady who told me that there was no one higher than her to talk to and I wouldn't be getting anything. After stating then I would stay on the phone until I did, with 20 minutes passing in silence, she finally wanted to try and salvage her "call-time average". So she ended up giving me the number to corporate "757-382-4604".
After speaking with an executive representative named "Theresa", she informed me that if I spent the $120.00 charge to have Gonzalez's Electronics to come out to my house and have the television audited and if they inform them that the TV suffered the same issues that Panasonic was fixing previously at their own cost, then she would have the company do so to mine. I contacted Andy back with the news and set up an exam time for both televisions and they came last Thursday (8-18-11). I spent the 120 bucks out of my pocket, which I felt was highway robbery being other TV repair companies quoted lower prices but I had to go through Gonzalez's because they're Panasonic's warranty repair team in my area. Another scam, I feel.
I gave him one of the receipts I was able to find 5 years later (she stated they wouldn't need the receipts, but if I could find them it would help) to send Panasonic, along with his report. I am now waiting on a reply from Theresa in regards to how they will go from here. If she keeps true to her word, I will keep you guys updated to the results.

I have bought two 61 inches (not one, but two) Panasonic LCD TVs. I bought the first 61-inch in 2007 (Pt-61lcx65) and loved it! I loved it so much that I wanted to get another one for our bedroom --we like to lay down with each other in our bedroom to watch TV. The TV cost us 3000, we had to wait a year to save up. We did this though, and in 2008, we went and purchased our second 61-inch LCD (but since the year had past, they had started another model # "Pt-61lcx35" but the TV itself is identical) for our bedroom.
Well, we were and have been happy for a while, but last year our first TV started having picture problems. The easiest way of explaining this would be to describe it as a dead pixel. There would be a large (softball size) circle that would be a discolored (yellow, red, green, pink, or cyan depending on the color of the picture of background) blotch in the background. It only started as one but as time has progressed, there are numerous now. Also, if the background picture was a white or bright off-white color (such as the sky), then there would be a fog-ish yellow tint or cyan tint (they switch back and forth) filling in the area. Now I could understand getting a bad apple. But after a few months, the second 61 inches started doing the same identical thing.
Well, the warranty date was out of the picture, I just allowed it to be a lesson learned. Now, I am about to move to Wilmington to continue my college career at UNCW, so we are moving our stuff. I realized we still have the two 61-inch LCDs upstairs in our office and was trying to figure what to do with them. Then I started thinking, "It has still only been 4 years for the first TV and only 3 for the second." We had to fork out 5000 for both (got the second one on sale for 2000), and that is way too much money to let slide in this economy.
I started looking up other cases similar to mine and found that there are hundreds of issues just like mine on those models. I read that some even contacted Panasonic (out of their warranty dates as well) and their TVs were fixed at Panasonic's expense. It has something to do with the TV's eprom software being faulty. All the technician has to do is bring out an eprom programmer, turn the TV to a certain channel, let the eprom tool work for about 5 minutes, and presto. Job done. After reading this, I contacted Panasonic and got redirected a few times until I came to the last person I talked with yesterday. After describing the issue, he gave me a number to a local technician in the area that does Panasonic's warranty work. After calling this shop, I left a message to be contacted today. After receiving the call, I learned I was supposed to have a case number from Panasonic (which the guy didn't give, which tells me that he was wanting me to do this at my own cost). So, I got off the phone with Andy and called back Panasonic. I got again the redirections in service centers' action, until I got the last girl I spoke with today.
I informed her of the call yesterday and she apologized. After realizing I had TWO of their screwed up TVs. She issued me 2 different case numbers (one per TV). I called back Andy with these numbers and he told me he would contact Panasonic back with the cases (to see what their actions are to be) and would be contacting me back on Monday with the results. After I hear back from him, I will post another follow-up result for you guys. I hope they do the right thing because nowadays, companies are no longer responsible for their faulty merchandise any more. Back in the days, companies got larger through having a superior product but now, it's through buy-outs and lay-offs as well as screwing their customers. I really loved those TV's pictures (when they worked properly), so getting them back up to par would be the best result and action they could accomplish --at no cost to myself, that is. Here's hoping!

I purchased a Panasonic TH-50PZ80U in January 2009. I chose this TV because the picture was excellent.
After about 14 months, my TV would not turn on. I would get a blinking red light. Sometimes, I would just unplug it for a few seconds then it would come on when plugged back in. As time went on, this occurred more often and the TV would not turn on for longer periods. It was suggested to me that there may be settings on the TV that caused this, but all the timing settings were turned off. Now the TV won't turn on at all.
I performed an Internet search to find a local repair person that works on these Panasonics and found an endless list of complaints on several different sites from consumers experiencing the same problems with their Panasonics as I am. These complaints go back several years, which makes it crystal clear that Panasonic knew of the defects in these expensive units and continued to sell them to the public.
I read many reports by consumers who were taken advantage of by Panasonic as well as several retailers who also knew of the defective components in these TVs. I addressed Best Buy, where I bought my set, and was told that this was a common problem with Panasonic but I would need to deal with them and not the sales store. They, of course, did not tell me this when the electronics manager recommended this set to me when I was shopping for this major purchase for my family.
I am another victim of the "Panasonic red blinking light of death" and a victim of a retailers' need to sell their junk to an unaware public. I have attempted contact with Panasonic and have been unable to wait the extreme amount of time necessary to actually speak with someone. From reading the stories of many other Panasonic consumers who got screwed as I did, it seems that contacting Panasonic is probably a waste of time also. We'll try though.

We purchased Panasonic TV, model PT-50 LC13 in 2004 and it was working for about a year. Then the lamp went out and we were given a replacement lamp due to warranty. They advised that if the lamp went out a third time, we were on our own. The cost was about $3-400 from Panasonic, but we found one on Craigslist for $100. We purchased it and still the TV doesn't work. It's possibly the lamp or the banister.
The TV has been in our spare room not working. Can you please advise under this class action lawsuit.

I purchased my Panasonic TX-P42G10B from Currys online on 29th. August 2009. Recently the TV started showing off in so much that on pressing the start up power button either from the Remote Control or or the TV switch the red light power light would flicker but the TV would refuse to turn on. Occasionally the TV would switch on only to switch itself off again after a short passage of time.
On contacting Currys Service Dept. I was informed that as the set was outside of the usual one year Warranty period then I would be charged 60 (which I have already paid) for the engineer to come out and possibly take the set away for assessment. I would then be charged extra to put right whatever problem there is with the set.
I have advised Currys that this set is still under 2 years old and I believe this particular problem is inherent with many Panasonic models of plasma TV, including the TX-P range, and because of this I expect the 1979 Sale Of Goods Act to cover this particular repair, and therefore I am requesting Currys that I am not charged.
Currys have said that if indeed Currys repair found this problem to be inherent then my 60 would be refunded and I would not be charged further.
Currys are coming to collect the set on Thursday 21st. July 2011 and of course right now I do not know if I will be charged or not. But I will not leave it there if I am!

Welcome to Panasonic Plasma Fail........
Greetings, and welcome to Panasonic Plasma Fail. This blog is intended as a site for consolidating consumer complaints about Panasonic Plasma television sets purchased between 2007 and 2009. If you are having problems with your Panasonic plasma television set not turning on, please add the details in the comments thread.
You might have reached this site by typing in one of the following search phrases:
my panasonic plasma will not turn onred light blinks seven times

If this describes your situation, you have come to the right place. In recent months, a flood of consumers have reported that their Panasonic plasma television sets died unexpectedly. According to some forum experts, these failures are the result of faulty power boards that were shipped with the units.
The bad news is that Panasonic has not done much to publicly acknowledge this problem, and it is very difficult to reach their customer support on the telephone. Most people who have encountered this problem after the warranty has lapsed have either (a) paid hundreds of dollars for costly repairs or (b) given up and purchased a replacement set.
Within the electronics industry, a 3% failure rate is widely accepted as standard. However, a cursory search of Google reveals that an unusally high number 2007/2008 Panasonic plasma sets have displayed the dreaded "blinking red lights of death." In order to maintain its reputation for quality customer service, Panasonic should really do something to remedy this situation. They should either fix the television sets free of charge, or replace the television sets with working units.
There are dozens upon dozens of complaints about these Panasonic television sets posted to various forums. If we can consolidate these complaints in one place, we may be able to put enough pressure on Panasonic to take action.

The posting below from Heather describes my situation perfectly:
I purchased a 42" Panasonic plasma television (model TH-C42FD18) from Costco with manufacturer warranty of 1 year and Costco warranty of 2 years. Purchase date was December 6, 2008. No extended warranty was offered at time of purchase as retailer automatically covers a product for 2 years. On May 6, 2011, I turned the TV off for dinner. When trying to turn the TV back on later, it did not respond. Noticed that the red power light was blinking 10 times and would pause and then blink 10 more times over and over.
Contacted Panasonic and was given instruction to unplug TV and try a process of resetting. When their process did not work, Panasonic informed they could not help and since warranty was expired it was not their responsibility. Retailer warranty expired 5 months ago as well, so Costco was not responsible. Upon researching this issue online, we found this is a very common issue with Panasonic plasma televisions and the problem is called the "blinking red light of death". It is an issue across all models of plasmas within the Panasonic brand and tends to happen 3-6 months after the warranty expires.
Each complaint I viewed showed that the consumers had done their due diligence before purchasing Panasonic and found great reviews of the products as we did. No one came across the "red blinking light of death" until it was too late. Panasonic should issue a recall and replace their defects or be held accountable in some way. Consumers should not expect an expensive product such as a plasma television to just die after 2.5 years of normal use.
In addition to this, regarding my situation, Panasonic referred a local service dealer to me. I was informed that since the size is 42 inches (or lower), I'd have to bring it in for service myself (the set is so cumbersome, I needed help with this). After service checked it out, I was told the A-Board needed to be replaced at a cost of $448.00. The board was ordered, replaced, and one week later I picked it up. The set worked for one day and failed the exact same way: 10 blinking lights. Took it back, and another A-Board was installed. I instructed the service center to keep the set on for a long period of time, and then attempt to turn it off and back on. A very helpful service man named Bob suggested that he keep it for a couple of days, and keep trying this procedure. After 3 days, he called and told me the set appeared to be working fine. I picked it up one week ago, and all is well so far. Just the same, I'm out about $450.00 for Panasonic's inability to QC their products properly.

As with everyone else, it lasted about 1and 1/2 years, then red blinking light came on. Since then, the bulb had needed to be replaced about every 9-12 months (about 5 or 6 so far). When I had the bulb replaced the 2nd time, the person at the repair shop said that had this been the 3rd or 4th time, I would be eligible for the class action suit that was going against them.
The last tech that came out sympathized with me and after replacing the bulb for the last time under warranty, gave me an extra bulb. The real replacement bulbs go for around $250-$300. I am not going to do this every year. I still have a 20" Panasonic TV that I purchased back around 1993 that still works great - no money ever spent on it after purchase. Obviously, with the number of complaints shown, Panasonic has either stopped making quality products or they just don't know how to make big screens (LCDs, Plasmas, etc.). Panasonic is losing its customers fast from the way it sounds. I don't think I will be purchasing any Panasonic products again.

Approximately one and a half years later, I began to get a green spot, the size of a soft ball, in the center of the screen. I immediately notified Panasonic about the problem and they stated that it must be the "light engine" that was at fault and I was made aware that it would cost me about $1200 to have it repaired.
I didn't see much sense in spending that amount of money for a repair, so I bought another television and put the defective Panasonic set in the garage. About two weeks ago (Apr 2011), I decided to see if there was any new information on the Panasonic set. I had discovered that the green ball in the center of the screen was caused by a Panasonic manufacturer's defect and to be an "e-prom" problem and not the "light engine" as Panasonic stated earlier. I was also informed that Panasonic was paying for the repairs, however, when I spoke to a Panasonic service rep today, Apr 28, 2011, he informed me that that program ended on Mar 31, 2011 and would not honor the repairs on my set. We'd unplug it for about an hour and it would come back on. We didn't think it was a problem, maybe just a fluke. We even checked Consumer Reports before we purchased and this TV was ranked very high. We did this as this was such a large purchase for us and we wanted something nice that would last a long time and be worth our money. We splurged a bit in hopes that we would enjoy many years of great picture on this set. Recently (the last two months) we've been getting the no turn on flashy light more often - daily even. Last night it died for the last time. It won't come on still flashy lights but not even unplugging will reset it.
I called Panasonic who said "too bad so sad" pretty much. I started "Googling" to find similar complaints, wow! There are so many, all with the same or similar problems. I can't understand why a company is being allowed to make such an expensive product that dies after 2-3 years, is in warranty for 1 year and is costly to repair. There is obviously a manufacturer problem if so many people are experiencing the same issue. It's my hope that Panasonic will be forced to repair or replace these TVs for free. This is ridiculous. The set cost around $2000. We're a new family and replacement is out of the question. I purchased a Panasonic Plasma TV P42G20B & the screen cracked just after turning the TV on its pivot stand. This TV is positioned on a stand which is part of the TV in which you can move the TV for viewing. However, the screen is designed too fragile that the movement can cause the screen to crack. When I questioned Panasonic about it being too fragile, they said its customer-damaged, accidental, etc.
On the P42G20B, the front protective screen layer is too close to the actual glass plasma display panel. The gap between front layer should be big enough to absorb any vibration or slight fluctuation. On some plasmas, there is more of a gap between glass and protective front layer. The design flaw can easily be proved. However, Panasonic said that this is not a design flaw. I won;t be buying Panasonic again.
I just wasted my money on badly designed rubbish. The reason I switched to plasma is because plasma TV's have a protective front layer in front of the actual screen, something that LCD TV's should have but don't. LCD TV manufacturers are also guilty of bad design. These manufacturers keep designing junk that breaks too easily, not fit for its general intended use. So they think they can get more money, but people are getting wiser now. I'm going to buy an LG 47LX9900 TV as this has a protective front screen with an adequate gap for flexing and it's an LCD screen.

My 1998 Sony projection TV is still going strong hand and sceptre 32 inch from 2006 still no problems. I'm very disappointed with Panasonic. They know this a problem yet they ignore it. If I knew Panasonic TVs were disposable, I would have gone with a VIZIO and not felt so bad about it going bad. This is class action suit time.

Got a call from Panasonic rep. on 12/16 saying TV was not available and would upgrade at no charge to one that was available. Asked if TV would arrive by Christmas and they said couldn't guarantee it unless I paid for express shipping!
This was totally their error. Where was this order for over a month. Why wasn't I contacted before? have not even been billed for it yet. Whole situation is bizarre. On hold for over an hour and a half to see when was shipped. Representative assured me that it would arrive before Christmas on the 23rd. Well, that's today and I have no TV. Called again and was on hold so long that my cordless phone battery died. Very disgusted with Panasonic and their lack of customer service. They should have done whatever it took to get product here in time as it is totally their incompetence that caused this problem.
Website is useless. Can't track item, says to call. Good luck with that. So, needless to say, someone will not have a gift for Christmas. Also emailed them while I was on hold for over an hour and this is 4 days later and no response. Apparently, they could care less if their customers are satisfied or not. Will never buy anything from them again.

I purchased a Panasonic Viera 42" plasma, model TC-P42S2, from Best Buy on 9/25/2010. On 11/12/2010, the TV developed a large vertical black line about a quarter of the way from the left edge. Because more than 30 days had passed, I could not return the TV to Best Buy, but had to call Panasonic’s customer service. They instructed me to carry the TV into a specific electronics repair shop (not Best Buy). I did so on that day. Today is 12/10/2010 and the TV still has not been repaired or returned to me. I was told that the reason is that the part needed to repair it is on back order.
I've obviously not had a TV for about 30 days, almost as long as I owned it before it broke. It seems to me that in a situation like this, when a TV breaks so soon after purchase, that Panasonic should either take measures to have it repaired in a week or ship a replacement TV out. The fact that the part is on back order also concerns me that perhaps there is a wider-spread reliability issue with this TV.

I have bought a brandnew Panasonic TC-P65VT25 (3D) on August 8, 2010 in the Video and Audio Center in Agura Hills, CA. The TV was delivered on August 11 and I have bought a professional installment service on top. The TV was working until Black Friday morning and then it turned "black".
I'm reporting about the the worst service I ever have experienced so far. Panasonic is selling premium TVs for premium prices and that is what happens to a costumer who was crazy enough to spend nearly $4,000 for a TV. On Day 1, Friday morning, November 26, my family was watching a movie, in the middle of the movie the TV screen went black - the Black Friday gets a new meaning for us. I called the Video and Audio Center in Agura Hills, CA, and asked for help.
Because it's Black Friday and everyone was busy, no one was calling us back. We drove to the store and talked with the manager. She promised to help and made copies from our purchase agreements. Late afternoon, she was calling me and told me, she had called Panasonic, but Panasonic required the customer to call in, so she can not help. I should go to Panasonic's website and find the number to call. Nice! Another lead I have to do - that is exactly what I have expected while buying such an expensive TV.
I finally found an e-mail on Panasonic's website and e-mailed the problem, answer from them came a couple of days later and was attached. It made me speechless. I also called the number on the website and after I was waiting for a while, I had someone on the phone. They said they would forward this to a company called The Repair Group. And of course, the Repair Group doesn't have people stand by available, I had to schedule an appointment for the upcoming week. Meantime, there was no TV at home for the holiday weekend. Thank you for this. I have two kids.
On Day 6, Wednesday, December 1, we still had no TV. The guy from the Repair Group showed up, testing the TV. He said two boards inside weren't working. He could not help and needed to order that from Panasonic and will call me when he has received it. On Day 8, Friday, December 3. I called the Repair Group but they haven't received the parts from Panasonic, they said I have to wait. Thanks again, the next weekend without TV. On Monday, I called again but they were still waiting for the parts from Panasonic and, of course, I have to wait as well.
On Day 12, Tuesday, December 7, the Repair Group was calling me (wow!). They told me they have received the parts and wanted to schedule an appointment for the next day, Day 13, Wednesday December 8. The Repair Group showed up with 2 guys. After an hour doing some work on the TV, they were telling me that two2boards were not working. I thought this was clear since last week, but anyhow, and they explained that Panasonic was sending out 1 board only and they needed to order the second board.
And guess what? Yes, I have to wait again for another week or more, until the parts were delivered and the Repair Group was scheduling the next meeting. Bottom line is I have spent nearly $4,000 for having no functional service, no replacement with a rental TV to bridge that service time, a lot of work time I had to spend to reach the various guys to finally figure out that I don't have any influence. And on top my complaining kids, don't having a TV and can not watch their shows. The TV IS still not working..

Did some research and seems I am not the only one. I spent over 1200$ on the original purchase and I am faced with the minimal charges to fix the TV with no guarantee it will last.
Sounds like the power supply goes out, but of course I will be charged to have someone else tell me that. You can try to find the part yourself, but so far every place that carries them is out of stock. EBay has had a few for my TV, but I don’t believe used or refurbished would be the way to go. $110 used or 140 new. So right now the TV sits waiting for the parts to be found. 2 months out of warranty and I own a 1200$ dead TV. It’s too bad, the picture quality was excellent.

I ended up with 10 blinks on my 50" Viera after 2 years. With the amount of complaints from multiple customers, you would think that they’d replace the faultily engineered parts for free. Not so much. I don’t know how they think that because it’s out of warranty, that anyone that spends $2,000 on a TV set will think about purchasing another one from the same maker. I’ve stood behind their products for years until this, with them refusing to cover repairs. Not a way to improve customer relations or get good reviews. I’m 27 and will never purchase another product with their name on it. They easily could’ve made over $25,000-$50,000 off of me in my lifetime if they stood behind their product, with it costing a couple of hundreds to keep me now. I’m back to a $200 19" that’s 12 years old, but haven’t put a single dollar into. Not really happy that this happened right before a holiday weekend also.

I purchased a 50-inch Panasonic HD Viera Plasma Television, January of 2009. On numerous occasions, the television wouldn't turn on--all I got was 10 red blinking lights on the front of the television. I called Panasonic and was told to unplug all cords/cables for at least 20 seconds; if this didn't work, I was told to replace the power strip. It worked a couple of times, after that the television would never turn back on. When I tried to turn it on, I would hear three clicks and then the small red light on the front of the television would blink--10 intervals.
I contacted Panasonic, they refused to accept responsibility even though they admitted to receiving hundreds of complaints, quote, "There aren't complaints to warrant a recall". I was instructed to contact a "Certified Panasonic Repair Company", have them come to my house to look at the TV and determine what the problem was, then fax everything to Panasonic. They would have their Customer Service department make a determination as to whether or not they would pay any of the repair costs.
Problem being, I had to pay $125 just to have the repair company Panasonic told me to call come to my home and Panasonic may not even pay anything toward the repair. What a rip-off/racket! Of course, the total cost of the repair, including house calls, came to over $500. I begged and pleaded with Panasonic to help with the cost as I could not afford to pay for the repair. They paid the cost of the replacement part (A Board), which wasn't even a third of the entire cost of the repair. I'm still in shock. I bought Panasonic thinking I was buying a quality television--never dreamed I would pay that much money just to have it work for a little over a year or more. I bought a used JVC 32" television about 12 years ago. Not once have I ever had to have it serviced. I can't believe they would not recall this television. This is an outrage. I will never purchase another Panasonic product and I will take every opportunity available to thwart others from purchasing Panasonic products.

My wife and I purchased a Panasonic TH-PZ800U for ourselves in December of 2008. Less than 2 years later, the TV mysteriously turns off and has a discolored line running vertically on the right third of the screen from top to bottom. While the Panasonic rep was sympathetic, she was unable to help as it was out of warranty and referred me to a repair center. The repair center estimated 350-750 dollars depending on what needed to be replaced. I can not believe that a TV that was rated the number 2 HDTV by Cnet would need repair in less than 2 years, especially with the light to moderate use of my family.
I believe that 5 years is the minimum lifespan consumers should expect after purchasing any major appliance, be it TV, washer, dryer, car or refrigerator. To buy in to the box store idea that any of the items listed above are disposable, that the repair of the item is so disproportionally high in comparison to the purchase of a new product is negligence on the part of the consumer. There are neither enough resources nor enough space for the manufacture and disposal of TVs, dryers and cars every few years.

After the TV failed the first time, I researched the problem on the Internet and found hundreds to thousands of customers with the same or similar power problems with the same television model. On 10/31/2010, the unit failed again with another power issue. I researched the problem again and found there are thousands, if not tens of thousands of customers still having power issues with their TH-42PZ77U televisions purchased in 2007-2008. Even though the TV was no longer within the manufacturer warranty, I contacted Panasonic because of the known, well-documented power failure issues with my television. I was told by "Tito" that Panasonic was not acknowledging my power issue as their problem and I had no recourse with them because the TV was out of warranty. I believe a class action lawsuit is in order! The estimated repair cost to repair my television is at least $400, 1/3 of the original price of the whole TV! Panasonic produced an inferior product and has repeatedly refused to recall or repair these televisions. It will cost me approximately $1,000 to replace this TV with a comparable model. We simply can not afford it, imagine a lamp assembly costing almost half the price of the TV! After 3/4 hr on phone (at my expense--no 1800#) I was given a reference # and someone from consumer relations would call me. So far nothing. So, called back to parts and was sent to consumer relations voice mail, left message, still nothing
After searching the web, I find out that there is a definite problem with this lamp and Panasonic knows it, what's up with that? To be honest, I am afraid to purchase another lamp assembly in the fear that it too will only last a year or two, and another $900 of my hard earned money gone down the drain, such a shame to put a 2 1/2 yr old 61" HDTV on the curb for the recycle guys to cart away. So people, it seems to me that it isn't just one model of Panasonic that suffers from lamp problems but all of them.
By the way, I found out that Panasonic USA sells just the lamp for $179.00 but cannot ship to Canada. Why? Because Panasonic has a part warehouse in Canada.
