We purchased a Panasonic HDTV model number PT-50LCX64 flat screen TV approximately 3 years ago. We will get a warning on the TV that states, "Your TV will turn off in one minute - call a TV technician to have the air filter cleaned." We did just that, called a TV repairman. He came out, removed the back speakers, took a dust cloth, lied to me & stated that there was a tube at the bottom of the speaker that let air flow through to cool the bulb. This technician charged us $697.44 to do that plus replace the projection bulb.
One week later, the same warning came up. I called a service technician & told him about the problem. He told me that the speakers had nothing to do with cleaning the filter - but he said he was going to be honest with me. He did not have a service manual on the PT-50LCX64 & then referred me to a download on another TV, the PT-52LCX15-B. I tried to download this service manual to my computer & it will not download. So, we have been ripped off by the TV repairman & the Panasonic technician only has little information available on how to clean the filter.

We bought a 50-inch LCD HDTV about 2 1/2 years ago. We paid about $1,800 for the TV. The screen is covered with blue dots. We haven't had the problem with replacing bulbs, but now the optical engine is going out. Panasonic called a repair person to come check out the TV. Then Panasonic denied the fixing of the optical engine as it's no longer under warranty. So we had to pay the repairman $85 for nothing when Panasonic initiated the repair! I think it is ridiculous that a TV that should last many years is already having problems. Actually, it's been going on since the TV was about a year old and the lamp light came on.
We bought a new lamp, but waited to install it. We mistakenly thought the lamp was slowly going out - accounting for all of the blue dots. Wrong! We ended up using the replacement lamp and figured out that it made no difference. So we have an expensive TV that gains more and more dots everyday, which diminishes the quality of the picture. Soon it will be unwatchable. My husband called Panasonic and after a few phone calls, one where he was told that Panasonic would fix any problem with our TV, they won't help us.
I would dearly love to be a part of a class action lawsuit to make Panasonic stand by their defective products. I have 3 blogs and I am going to voice my dissatisfaction with Panasonic. I encourage everyone else to use word of mouth and the internet to get your voice heard.

Much like the others regarding the injustices by the company, Panasonic, I too have a Panasonic DLP model PT52LCX65 that has already had one lamp and will not quit shutting off due to air filter needs cleaning. I, as many, was not notified by Panasonic of any class action. Their failures have caused me to actually not have a television any longer and the cost of the second lamp placement that allegedly this should take care of any problems when in fact it just cost me an extra $375 on top of the cost of the television that does not work. And Panasonic does nothing to alleviate other than duck and cover. As of this date, they have not told me of any class action and sorry, but I am sure that the letter with my intent to pursue legal action will result in such.

The TV was 13 months old when we started getting blue squiggly lines and purple spots. When we contacted Panasonic about a new lamp (we were entitled to a free one), they said it was not the lamp but it could be the processor which costs almost as much as the TV itself. I have read other reviews from consumers with the same problem. Panasonic does not stand by their products. I now have a $1,400.00 TV sitting and collecting dust. Can you help at all or offer me a suggestion? The TV is a Panasonic PT-44LCX65. Thank you.

In 2005, we purchased a Panasonic TH-42PX25 Plasma TV for $2300. The next year, the same TV was $1000, but that's not the problem. Within the first year, the digital tuner failed and the TV was repaired under warranty. Less than a year later, the same tuner failed again. This time Panasonic split the cost of repair. Less than a year again, the same problem occurred. This time Panasonic provided the part and I was responsible for labor and transportation cost. In less than a month, it happened again. This time Panasonic would offer no assistance. They did offer to sell me another TV at a reduced rate, but I find the same TV for $100 less than what Panasonic offered it to me. So now I have an expensive TV that is worthless and because of economic problems, I cannot afford to go out and replace it. So now I have a $2300 boat anchor and no TV.

I have a Viera LCD 32 inches and it was bought from E-Zone in Bangalore. Warranty got over just 3 months back and the screen color started deteriorating. I lodged a complaint with the service station and a technician was sent to the home who suggested I send the LCD to the service station to get it repaired. In turn, my LCD was picked from my house and I got a call today from them stating that the panel itself has gone bad and I need to pay Rs. 26000 to get it fixed. I can understand if it was a minor fault and I need to pay since I am out of warranty, but what kind of product is it that it worked only for a year and now failed to work immediately after warranty is over? I am not paying and I would request Panasonic Customer Care team to look into this matter. I am going to escalate this further so that it can be "actioned." I'm not sure about the results though. If anyone has any contact of a Sr. Manager in Panasonic, please provide that to me. I have also written them an email.

My son (who is on vacation from Virginia) tries turning on the TV and it does not do anything. We call Panasonic and they tell us that the problem is the lamp. It costs over $300.00 to replace it...How can a TV that is barely used can have this problem with a light bulb that is supposed to last longer??? I want Panasonic to replace my lamp TY-LA1000 for free. This TV has not been used enough to burn the lamp so soon.

I purchased a Panasonic 50 Plasma TV model # TH50PX600U. After 1 year 11 months the TV does not work. Only half of the TV screen shows a picture, with no color-mostly green. Only certain channels function. The HDMI inputs do not work. An authorized service representative says two circuit boards are corrupt and will cost $900.00 to repair. It is ridiculous that any TV would fail after 1 year 11 months - naturally outside the manufacturer's warranty. I will never buy a Panasonic product again.
I did purchase a 5 year extended warranty from Consumer Priority Service and now have read the fine print that they don't want you to see. This company has the discretion to do whatever they want, so therefore, Consumer Priority Service refused to repair my TV stating it is a total loss, then devalued the TV. (That's in the fine print.) I paid $2500 for the TV and $399 for the insurance. Consumer Priority Service offered me $359 - what a joke! Or I can ship the TV back at my expense, and they would offer me a refurbished TV or $729. Guess what? Packaging, shipping and insurance cost around $400 and they still have the right to refuse the product if they think there is any damage. Consumer Priority stated if I ship the TV back I should insure for $2000.
I then asked why they would only give me $359. CPS (Woody) couldn't answer that question. I told him I would not attempt to fraudulently deceive the shipping company if CPS was only going to give me $359. Regardless, Consumer Priority Service is out less money than the $399 I paid. They still make $41 profit. They never lose. The fine print allows them to do whatever they want. My recommendation is not to ever use this Company.

Bought an LCD TV and Home Theater unit approximately 2 years ago. Started having problems with the Home Theater unit first. Speakers stopped working (after 18 months) then eventually DVDs and CDs would not load. Next the LCD TV had problems. It has a green line on the screen and no picture above the line. Digital signal also breaks up and picture is off center when used with other video devices. Inquired via email to Panasonic customer service and got a canned response of take them in for service.
When I inquired, at a service center, about the cost it is definitely not worth trying to repair the items. I have researched these Panasonic items and found that these issues seem to be problems inherent to Panasonic LCD TVs and Home Theater systems. Panasonic does not seem to want to correct the issues. They would prefer to sell inferior products at inflated prices and destroy their reputation with the public. I have told a great deal of people about these issues and have instructed them to steer clear of Panasonic electronics. I have since replaced these items with Sony as Panasonic has lost a customer for life.

I purchased a Panasonic PT50LC13 TV on 9/20/05 because we lost our living room furniture in Hurricane Katrina. The store where we purchased from told us that the TV had a lamp that would last for 10,000 hours of life. In August of 06 the TV did not have a picture but the audio was still working. The store where we purchased it from sold us a one year warranty service so they came out to fix it. They said they had to replace the lamp even though there was only around 500 hours of use. Then in February of 08 the lamp died again with nowhere near the 10,000 hours of use. However, the warranty was expired from the place of purchase and the company said that I had missed the deadline to settle in a class action suit. Once is my fault, twice is your fault and fortunately I am not stupid enough to fall for it the third time so I am not spending money to buy another lamp when two of them have gone out way before their life expectancy. I bought a different TV!!! My question now is what in the hell do I do with this huge piece of crap?

I purchased a Panasonic TV model # PT-50LC13 from Best Buy 4 yrs ago. I had to replace the TY-LA1000 lamp in the first 4 months of purchase. The TV would not turn on. You would just hear the fan going on. The TV since then would turn on but sometimes it would take 5-10 minutes to turn on and display the image. About a month ago the TV stopped working. I called Panasonic and they told me it was probably the lamp. I was kindly advised my warranty had expired so, I had to pay for a lamp approx. $300 which I paid and they mailed it and I had a tech guy install it from one of their service centers in Lancaster which I also had to pay for an evaluation and they said they are constantly having issues with these TVs due to the lamps. They replaced the lamp but the TV still didn't work. They said it may be the ballast or at worst could be the engine. They also mentioned that there was an action lawsuit filed on this unit and seemed surprised that I still had the TV.
I was not aware of such a lawsuit before. This TV cost me approximately $3000.00. I purchased this TV hoping that I was buying a reliable and quality product for the price and received totally the opposite. I always had purchased Panasonic based on quality, but I see now that they care about production not quality and they are releasing defective products out to the public without caring about the financial burden. Neither Best Buy nor Panasonic contacted me about this lawsuit. When I asked Panasonic directly about the class action lawsuit, they said they could not do anything because the remedy date had expired 11/30/07 and they could no longer do anything. I told them they knew I had a faulty unit and why I wasn't notified and they said a third party company was responsible for notifying consumers, but somehow they did not get everyone like me regarding the faulty lamps/ballast in their LCD models.
I don't know how many other people are out there with these units, but I feel another lawsuit should be filed to address those left out like me who had no clue that there was a lawsuit. This initial lawsuit was filed in '06 in New York on behalf of consumers who purchased a Panasonic LCD projection TV model pt 50lc13 with defective lamp. Customers complained Panasonic LCD TVs failed far before the promised 10,000 hours of lamp life. Although Panasonic admits no wrongdoing, it has agreed to a class action settlement. Panasonic had agreed to give customers an extended warranty until November 30, 2007 or reimbursement of monies spent to replace failed lamps. Or if the consumer has had three or more issues with the TV, they can get a replacement TV, or if the consumer chooses, a $1,000 rebate certificate toward the purchase of a new Panasonic TV with a retail price of $1,500.00 or more. When I asked Panasonic about this, they just played ignorance and pretended not to know anything about any replacements. Panasonic should be ashamed of delivering defective products to the market. This is highway robbery with a license!

I have the Panasonic PT50LC13 which has now blown a bulb for the fourth time. My third lamp failure was in February 2008, just over 2 months after the deadline for the original lawsuit. I asked the Panasonic representatives what my options were and they kept referring me to the website tvlampsettlement.com and said their hands were tied because of the ruling in this lawsuit. The only option they could give me was to buy a replacement lamp (all told cost me 314.12). I was very upset but accepted this because the first 2 replacement lamps I got were under warranty.
I was told that the problem was with the bulbs, not the tv. I was told that the original bulbs made and distributed for the tvs were no longer being used and that the company changed something about the bulbs to make them last longer. We waited for almost a month before we decided to order the lamp because we just didn't want to put money into a black hole. Also, each time our tv went out it took several weeks to repair. Finally after almost a month of contemplating what to do, I asked one of the Panasonic representatives if the lamp that I was replacing was an old (defective) or new (supposedly fixed) lamp. It had lasted I believe just a few months more than a year. I wanted to give the number off of the lamp itself to a representative and have them check the lot number. No one in the customer service or parts department could tell me who would even have this information.
I finally received a call back from a supervisor who asked me what year was on the lamp. I told him 2004 and he told me that was an old (defective) lamp. I asked him if he was sure and tried to give him the number off of it, but he told me he was sure that the lamps made in 2004 were the old ones. So I sucked it up and bought a new lamp (again, this cost 314.12). I was very upset when the new (and supposedly fixed) lamp arrived with the date stamp of 2004! I ordered that lamp on April 1, 2008 and it is September 20, 2008 and my tv lamp is blown.

Reviewed Aug. 7, 2008
I bought a house last February from a Best Buy executive who had been transferred to another region of the country. He left the Panasonic Model # PT-50LC13, that he had built a wall system around, with the house. This June the bulb went out. I've been checking online to find a replacement because I don't intend to pay nearly $300 to replace it through Panasonic itself.
In my research I found reference to the class action lawsuit which expired last November, and which, of course, I missed out on. That, and the previous owner didn't leave the invoice for the TV with the TV booklet when he sold me the house. I hope the bulb I just ordered from an online bulb dealer works at least until we sell the house early next year as I will not replace the bulb again. Actually haven't missed having the TV since we had a second one, but now that that has gone out also the less costly option was to replace this bulb rather than replace the other tv.
Price I'm paying for the bulb only is $115 with shipping. My son took the back of the tv off and agrees that the bulb only can be replaced into the existing casing. A much more economic option than replacing both the bulb and casing.

I called Panasonic several times to complain that they are referring an ill-qualified repair shop and that they should cover the $165.00. I could never get anyone to call me back so I wrote a letter of complaint and then a return-receipt letter. I cannot get anyone to even respond to me. I spent $165 at Panasonic's recommended repair shop and they didn't do anything.

Purchased the Panasonic PT-52LCX66 LCD television for right around $1,800 and within 18 months, the main system control board is not working according to a technician who looked at the TV in my home. This part is $295 from Panasonic but they will not let individuals purchase them because they say the repair is too difficult. It's basically like a mother board for a computer that other components plug into it. The repair company wants $250 to unscrew the cover off the television, unplug a few wires and unscrew a few screws, then replug everything back into the new part. $550 total repair job for something I can do because Panasonic is worried some Yahoo will forget to unplug the TV from the wall and get electrocuted.
The cost to repair this is too much, Panasonic will not allow consumers to purchase parts for something they own. The television repair companies will not charge by the hour but only a flat rate for something that will take less than an hour to fix.

Purchased Panasonic PT50LC13 television Aug. 2005. From that time until May, 2008, there have been a total of four lamps in the television. This last time, I purchased a lamp, still didn't work. Had to take it to a service dealer, who just called me to inform me the television is basically, beyond repair. In short, one of the voltages in the television is only putting out 300 watts, when it should be 1700, which results in a problem with the ballister circuit, and possibly affected the main circuit board, of which is no longer available. To even start to fix the television, it would cost app. $1000, and then, the main curciut can be checked, and if ruined, I'm out the money and still no television. I told the repairman to put it back together and we'd pick it up and store it in the garage. I feel Panasonic has a real lemon, and reading the complaints on the consumer affairs web page I'm not alone.
Because of excess medical bills, as well as gas costs, etc., we cannot afford another television, and are paying for hd reception, with no television. I thought when I purchased this television (just a note, it was purchased with my father's death benefit, because he always wanted to buy us a television for our new house, but passed away before he was able), which is the most expensive television I've ever purchased, it would last a lot longer than 31 months.

I then got a local panasonic tech to give me an estimate. it reguires $1,600 parts/labor.
I then got back in touch with BETTY at customer care and she said I needed to fax her the original receipt? We did so. She said the repair is to costly. She would look into a similar model for replacement. At that point I was extremely happy, WOW it was the right thing to spend the extra $ for Panasonic! After numerous call and faxing back and forth. She called and faxed over a release. The release was signed and faxed back. I called Betty and said how happy I was they were doing the right thing. She then dropped the bomb and asked me for my credit card #. I said for what? Well she said for the replacement plasma!
I was completely confused! I said, why would I pay for another television when the current television was only 2 years old that we paid $2400 and the estimate to repair was $1600, and Best Buy sells the television, the oned she was selling for $1,099. I was so mad, I just couldn't believe, Panasonic was not only not backing up their product, or request to split the repairs, they were manipulating me into purchasing another panasonic television for $200 more than the exact model?
It does not end there, I demanded to speak with her supervisor, she said she would have to have someone get back to me. She said the tv was out of warranty! Of course I have heard not received a call from BETTY's supervisor although I was promised over 5 days ago!

We couldn't get in the class action lawsuit because the lamp didn't blow before Nov. 2007. Panasonic, when I've made over 4 phone calls, is not budging at all to send a lamp (comp), or compensate in any way, as matter of fact, they have been absolutely nasty when I approached about requesting for some type of compensation. I'm very upset, and have a television that I paid $1700, that is a piece of junk, can't be watched, unless I pay over $300 ($285.95 for the lamp and S/H).
We can't watch television, which I might add, am wasting money with my satellite provider, for HDTV, because this is the only television in the house that is a HDTV. I either want Panasonic to stand behind their product for victims who are stuck with this defective television, either issuing new lamps when one goes, issuing another television (of equal size), or refunding my money so I can purchase another television, that we'll be able to watch and not have to call Panasonic and be treated unfairly every 8 to 14 months.

I purchased a Panasonic TV model number PT-40LC12/PT-45LC12 in 2003. I have purchased 5 replacement lamps already. They do not last any where near 5,000 hours. And they are $300.00 approx. each. I question that the TV fan does not cool adequately and that is why the bulbs do not last, I could not have received that many bad replacements. I will soon be ordering number 6 and that is with my TV not being run from December to March!!

I purchased a new 50 Panasonic plasma TV in mid-January 2008. Approximately 40 days later it abruptly stopped working. A Panasonic contact repair facility made an in-home repair service call. A circuitry board was replaced & the TV still didn't work. Two weeks later they took the TV to the shop. We have now been without a TV for almost five weeks and there is no estimated date for it to be back in service or to be replaced if it cannot be repaired.
I am paying for a television that I do not possess. I am paying for high definition broadcasting that I cannot watch. My wife has had to take time-off from work, without pay, to be present when the repair personnel showed up. I, as a consumer, am getting hit with additional costs for Panasonic's faulty product. And, in the end, I will be getting a reconditioned product for the cost of a new product. What's wrong with this picture?

I bought a Panasonic LCD TV PT-60LC14 on Feb 2005 with a 3 year bulb warranty from Anderson. The bulb blew off on Mar 2008. I contacted customer service and they told me they cannot do anything. The lawsuit had expired in Nov 2007 and my TV Model number (although it used the same lamp TY-LA1000) was not covered. I researched the internet regarding the lamp and found this website.
I bought a lamp TY-LA1000 found a third party Ness Electronics that claimed that there was no point paying extra for the shell around the lamp. I bought the lamp from them and it turned out that the lamp replacement is not easy and it requires soldering. So, I spent $200 on a lamp and I still cannot replace my broken lamp in my TV.

I purchased in good faith a 42" PANASONIC Plasma T.V. on-line. It worked beautifully for THREE (3) DAYS. I then shipped this piece of over-sized/overweight junk to Poway T.V., Poway, California. This authorized service center informed me that the problem was a common occurrence.
I spent the better part of a morning just ON-HOLD with a succession of Panasonic 800 #s. Because I live in Mexico, I had to drive the Panasonic Plasma back to the States and then collect it a week later. I am out-of-pocket at least $500. It is my feeling that outfits like Panasonic will only recall a certain product IF IT PLACES THE BUYING PUBLIC IN PHYSICAL PERIL (i.e. explosion, fire, toxic meltdown et al). I SHALL NEVER BUY ANOTHER PANASONIC PRODUCT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! I'm disgusted.

I purchased a Panasonic PT-50LC13 TV from Circuit City in September of 2004, spending over $2300 for the TV alone plus stand and additional equipment. Was told the only maintenance this set should ever need would be bulb replacement. While they had a 1 year warranty, I should expect at least 3 to 4 years life on the bulb. I have replaced two bulbs well within the 10,000 hours time limit. The last bulb was replaced in June of 2006. When I called to reorder a bulb today, I stated I wanted to have a complaint on file and asked if anyone else had complained and was told there was a lawsuit that expired in November of 2007. So nothing more can be done for me.
My original complaints were listed with Circuit City and Panasonic prior to this Class Action Lawsuit, yet I was never made aware of this until after it expired. Seems clear to me I should have been part of this settlement. The customer Service rep handling this, Carol O'Brian's, answering machine at 201-211-7262 is full with a message that sends you back to the techs at 800-211-7262 that sent you to her to start with. The attorney in charge of this, Mike Marino at 201-392-6100, has an answering machine stating he will get back to you. Looks like nothing but run around from Panasonic, without legal help
The damage to us is cost of new bulb not covered and down time without TV.

About two years ago, I bought a Panasonic TV (model PT-50LC13), and last year one of the bulbs burned out. Now less than 900 hours of use, another bulb just burned out again which makes me think that something must be wrong because I paid over $500.00 in repairs. I found that this bulb should last for about 10,000 hours per bulb. Something needs to be done because if I'm going to pay $500.00 every six months, I'd rather buy another TV.
The consequence is that I already paid over $500.00 less than six months ago; and now if I want to watch TV, I have to pay another $500.00 to repair my TV.

I called to tell them the bulb blew out on our TV again--at least 4 bulbs in 3.5 years. They tell me I could have joined a class action suit; but, oh no, it ended in Nov. of last year. But they will gladly sell me a bulb for $299.99. I never was notified of any suit. They have always been quite nice about honoring my $500.00 extended warranty by replacing their 10,000 hour bulbs at lifespans which approached 10% to 30% of life. They even replaced a $400.00 ballast board. But now they tell me I could have gotten out from under this piece of junk and gotten a replacement that works...except they never notified me....

I had purchased a Panasonic (Model PT-50LC13) LCD Rear Projection TV. I purchased it in May of 2004. I have had 2 lamps blow. (Panasonic replaced the first one due to warranty.) The next one I had to pay for. I called and complained to no avail. The set just blew up again the other day. It appears it is the ballast this time. I bought another replacement lamp, and the TV will not turn on. Power light (green) turns on and then flashes to off (red), and the lamp indicating light, flashes (red).
I would not recommend to anyone to ever buy a Panasonic product. I have had to purchase 2 lamps that retail for $300.00. I now have had to purchase a ballast repair kit. I have been doing research online to find out where the ballast is located and cannot find out any information. I will have to pay a technician to repair this. I emailed Panasonic, and they sent an email mail back kind of saying as much as: too bad.

We purchased a Panasonic PT50LC14 TV from Sam's Club. This is one of the tv's that take the TY-LA1000 lamp kit. We made the purchase in October of 2005 but didn't use it very much until Nov of 2007. The lamp went out and we had to have it replaced today. Almost $500 every six months or so is not good. To put salt in the wound, we purchased a service agreement from Sam's Club. The salesman told us that they had a little trouble with the lamps but the service agreement would cover it. We found out the had way that that was not true. No where in the agreement does it say that the lamp is not covered. They said it was part of the What's not Covered, number 22 parts normally designated to be replaced periodically by you or consumed during the life of the product (ie, batteries, ribbons, toner cartridges, drums, remote control units, video cassettes, dvd and compact discs, etc). There is nothing about internal lamps. This tv should be part of the law suit pending. And/or the Sam's Club Service agreement should cover the part.

I was unaware that there had been a class action suit filed concerning the problems with my Panasonic TV model # PT 50-LC13 for defective lamp. I did however know the lamps were bad as I have already replaced three and it just went out again. That is when I e-mailed Panasonic. They have only paid for one of the lamps. All I was asking for was for them to replace the lamp. They referred me to the web site that stated the claim was settled in Nov. I wrote them back telling them that I was never made aware of the suit and as in a re-call for defective parts I should have been notified. I received another e-mail referring me to a local service center, so I was on my own again.
I then called Panasonic customer service and talked to Justin position # 5715 who stated they would do nothing to help me but referred me to the web site that said the case was settled or to a local repair center but Panasonic would not pay. I ask to have that in writing over the internet or by mail and he refused. He eventually gave me over to a supervisor who was VERY rude and blunt and eventually gave me the name of their corporate lawyer. I have left a message there. If they know my TV is defective they should fix it.
I can't recall the exact price of the TV but it was around $2,000. I have then paid for two of the three lamps for a total of about $650 to $700. (parts and shipping). Now the lamp is out again. Even if they replace the lamp it will only go out again in another year or just a little over a year. I could not in good conscience sell the TV once I replace the lamp so I am out a 50in Flat Screen 1080i TV.

Bulb #3 lasted until Feb. 08. We replaced bulb #4 and then it sparked-out in March 07,2008.
My husband is on the phone with Panasonic customer service now and has been for about 1.5 hrs. They are telling him that they can send a service guy out again, but if they do not find something to fix, they will have to charge us. They also say that they have recalled many models, but not the one we paid for.

Panasonic Plasma Disappointment! The first day my new Panasonic Plasma (50PZ700U) arrived, the power would not stay on more than 20 minutes. They seemed to know exactly where this was going, and in less than 3 minutes told me they would dispatch a technician the following week. For those wanting the gory details, Google the following: Panasonic+Plasma+Power supply+Blinking Lights. It's an eye opener for those thinking this unit is flawless (as I did when I read the Consumer Reports review). I should add it seems to affect all current Panasonic Plasmas. At any rate, I'm left to wonder how long this will take to resolve and what else might be wrong. All in all, it's a very bad start for such a highly touted TV.
I spent $2395 for TV; $400 for TV Stand; $650 for new Tivo Unit ... and have nothing to show for these expenditures.

When I bought a 50 Panasonic LCD TV from Circuit City, I also purchased a home theater system (Panasonic SA-HT900) for $699. The system was a total zero from after about 6 months. It would make a loud explosive sound and we would lose the sound for hours, days and eventually the sound never returned. The frustrating part is that I took the unit to Circuit City and they tried to fixed it the first trip. Unfortunately for me, the problems persisted and I had to take the system back to Circuit City for more service. Well this time Circuit City lost the cable that made the system operable and they could not fix the receiver back to working order. I don't understand how it is possible for Panasonic to continually sell products in the USA with their track record. I have gone to different websites to get information about how to reach their customer service department and is virtually impossible.
The consequences are really quite simple. You buy a product and pay good money for it. You take it home and you expect the product to work. When it doesn't work, you expect the maker to do all they can to make good by fixing the problem. I will never buy a Panasonic anything and hope to find out what other products are sold under different names but manufactured by them.

For those that don't know how, there is a way to see how many hours you have on your bulb. With the TV powered off (make sure it's off for a few minutes before trying this, or you'll wait for the customary cooldown period before anything happens if you turn the set off and try this stuff immediately), press and hold both the VOLUME Down button on the TV itself and the TV/VIDEO key on the remote control simultaneously for about 7 seconds. The TV will be turned on and it will have a screen of status data atop an active TV channel. To get out of this mode TURN OFF your TV. This initial SERVICE MODE 1/3 screen shows - LAMP OPERATION TIME TOTAL : (total time on the set) CURRENT LAMP: (total time on the bulb**) OSD DISPLAY : ON LON COUNT : (number of times the TV has been turned on) **
We've had our set just a little under 4 years and the bulb has been replaced 4 times as of yesterday. The technician never reset our CURRENT LAMP to zero, so it showed the same number as TOTAL: which was 9645 hours. Doing the math, it looks like we are averaging about 2500 hours per bulb, but turning the set on and off a lot is suppose to cut the bulb's life even shorter (from what I've read, especially if it's hot). Currrently, bulbs look like they cost about $150 and can be replaced by the consumer, so once your TV is out of warrenty, you can expect to buy a new bulb every year, averaging about $15 per month to keep your Panasonic LCD TV that uses the TY-LA1000 bulb operational. After you replace your bulb, you can enter the SERVICE MODE screen and using the up and down arrows on your remote, arrow to CURRENT LAMP: (number) , hit the enter key, and the number will blink, then using your VOLUME DOWN button, hold it down until the number reaches zero, and you should be good for another year or ~2000 more hours on that bulb.
I hope this is helpful info for those of you who bought the same TV as I did, the Panasonic PT-50LC13. I wish I knew how well LCD and Plasma technology performed, considering how long have you had a computer monitor LCD work before it starts getting blurry and fading? 4 Years? 5 Years? and then you need to throw out the monitor. No fixing it. No putting in new bulbs. Same for plasma which currently boasts 60,000 hours, which means that a new plasma TV would last my family about 24 years, based on the stats from our Panasonic over 4 years (if the plasma estimation is really true).
