I purchased the top of the line Tempur-Pedic mattress 4 years ago and it has been the worst mattress I have ever owned. When you first get the mattress, it has a sickening chemical smell that takes one or two weeks to go away. The manufacturer advertises that the mattress eliminates pressure points. This is total nonsense! I find this mattress far more uncomfortable than my previous Sealy mattress. Now after 4 years, the mattress is losing its shape. It sags and feels like I am sleeping on a big piece of rubber with absolutely no back support. I wake up feeling more tired than before I went to bed. Don't make the same $4,500 mistake I made. Do not purchase this mattress!

I had purchased a Tempur-Pedic Weightless with the intent and supposed advertised benefit that it would cradle all my pressure points on my body, therefore making my sleep healthier with less wakening times. The mattress was quite firm initially but was told to walk on it to get it to soften and it would soften over time. Needless to say, I had to let it air out in my bedroom without any bed coverings with the windows open for a week to 10 days to get the chemical smell out of it before I even slept on it. I was also told the bed would burp out the smell as I slept on it or walked on it so as to enhance the softening process. Well, the smell did linger as I slept on it. I am only 105 lbs. The mattress has not softened and I am now having general nightly discomfort and pain over my boney prominencies. I cannot seem to get any soft comfort from it.

I struggle every night trying to position myself to no avail. I toss and turn all night. I cannot find any position of comfort and I am not waking up refreshed, but instead with aches and pain. I also seem to be having more problems with my eyes being more dry and swollen in the mornings and am beginning to believe I am having some sort of overall auto immune system reaction to the mattress. Consider the science of sleep. Sleep is important and has many functions. If you do not sleep well and when you continue to lose sleep, the rest of your mental and physical well-being becomes impaired in many ways. I am beginning to read more about disappointed Tempur customers and about health issues related to Tempur-Pedic by the customers who paid out big bucks and now have big health problems. I think this product needs to be further investigated and consumers need warned about it.

We purchased our first Tempur-Pedic Cloud Supreme in 2/2011 for $3,000. In June of 2011, we found that the entire bottom side of the mattress was covered with disgusting mold. We went back to the store where we purchased the mattress and with some unpleasantries with their customer service, they replaced the mattress. It is now March of 2013 and the bottom our replacement mattress is now covered with the exact same mold. I have been contacted by several Tempur-Pedic customers who are experiencing the same issues and being that this is our second incident, it indicates to me that there is a defect with this product. The mold occurs in the exact same area of the mattresses (only on the bottom side), is not visible from the top or side of the mattress in the exact same pattern with the exact same color.

There are numerous incidents reported via the internet complete with photos and videos. All you need to do is Google Tempur-Pedic mold. This fact also indicates that these incidents are not isolated. Shortly after our first mattress was replaced, we moved to a different home. We used the Tempur-Pedic foundation with the first mattress and did not with the second. We used a waterproof protector on the top side of the first mattress and did not with the second. With the first mattress, we were told that it must have somehow gotten wet prior to delivery and we were instructed to stand the replacement vertically for a period of 2 days prior to using it and inspect it thoroughly, which we did. We assumed the first incident was an anomaly and didn't question the explanation we were given or that the product that we were being sold was defective. The second incident provoked my further investigation and revealed that there have been numerous documented complaints of this issue all over the country. I'm currently battling with the company for a refund.

We purchased the Tempur-Pedic Contour Signature Queen Mattress for $3,000.00. After having it for sixteen days, we still were not able to sleep on it because the smell was so toxic. The store owner would not return our calls. His employees would tell us that the owner said they could not do anything for us, and we had to go through Tempur-Pedic. They called their rep for Tempur-Pedic, and they said she told the owner we had to keep it for 30 days and then they would take it back for a $300.00 restock fee. The Tempur-Pedic rep would not return our calls, and Tempur-Pedic would not respond to our emails. When we did finally get a hold of someone at Tempur-Pedic, they said they only take care of warranties and only exchange the mattress with another.

When we went to rearrange the furniture, we noticed some black spots on the center of the mattress. When we lifted things further to investigate, the mattress and the Tempurpedic wooden box that the mattress rests on had black mold starting at the center. Nothing has ever been spilled on the mattress and we have always followed manufacturer recommendations. I did some searching and there are countless of other consumers with the same experience. These mattresses have poor air circulation or something in the material causes it to be mold-prone. We have never had this issue with any other mattress we have owned. For something that is just over 1 year old, I am very disappointed and now very concerned about our health.

I am unhappy with the help provided by your telephone customer service. I first contacted them on February 27 or 28th. I asked the girl what I was doing wrong to feel a ridge in the middle of my bed. We had a long conversation, and she determined I had a defective bed. Before we started this conversation, I explained I lived in New Orleans; and the bed was purchased by my mother who is now 101 years old, and I had no papers on the bed. Older people often pay cash for things. Of course she could have written a check, but I have nothing but the bed. All of this was at the time of Katrina. New Orleans, Metairie, and Kenner were barely functioning.

This customer relations girl told me I could get a new mattress. She asked for my address but then said did I have email. I gave her my husband's email address. My husband got the email and after looking at it, we decided to fill it in the next day. We delayed this one more day and started the process this morning at about 8:30am. I called the number on the email to get help choosing a mattress. I received the help I needed. I had to take the bed apart to get the numbers I needed. This is not an easy process since the number is on the last corner of the zipper.

The next thing I called the second number the email told me to ask for help or replacement of the mattress. The young man told me from the very beginning nothing could be done to help me. He insisted that all claims need to have proof of purchase. He did get off the line and said he spoke with a supervisor. I did not like the way he spoke and seemed to be unsympathetic to my problems. Originally, I did not ask for anything but help and to find out if I did something wrong. Now, I feel your company is wrong not understanding Katrina caused numerous problems. The least I should have received was a belief that your company stands behind its product.

I was a teacher and if I treated my students and their parents the way I was treated, I would have had a job for twenty years plus. I did call another customer relations girl, and she said the same thing. My husband did one more thing, and he checked on the internet to see if the same kind of complaints were posted. Guess what? Other good customers have the same problems as I have. I will be posting my information on the internet so others will understand you have no faith in your customers. When asked if I could name the first customer relations girl, I could not. I do believe you could trace my call.

After many years of doctor visits: from dermatologist, to rheumatologist, to gynecologist, and finally, to an allergist, I found out that I am allergic to chemicals used in making rubber products. The diagnosis was overexposure to these chemicals causing my immune system to react. After several years of misdiagnosis, I have finally found out the source of my medical problems, which are hives on hands, swollen face, itchy burning eyes, fatigue, body aches, nausea, flu like symptoms, and endless other symptoms.

My symptoms have been treated with oral steroids, antibiotics, and now topical creams. After abandoning my Tempur-Pedic bed, I have determined the source of the chemical making me sick. I called Tempur-Pedic directly and have yet to get a reply. I wanted a breakdown of chemicals used in manufacturing to determine if any mixed Diakyl Thioureas are used. I cannot get an answer. I am now stuck with a $3,000 bed I cannot sleep in. This matter needs to be addressed so other people don't have to endure what I have. My husband has not slept on the Tempur-Pedic bed for about a year now as he claims it hurts his hip, knees, back, etc. I want the bed removed from my home, and I need the store I purchased it from to give me a credit toward a new bed.

About four years ago, we purchased a Cashmere pillow top Tempur-Pedic mattress after it was recommended by our daughter and son-in law. It is so hard that it's like sleeping on an asphalt road! At first, we thought we just needed time to get accustomed to the mattress, but that has never happened. My daughter tried it a few days ago and feels it must be defective because it has a different feel from her mattress. I can no longer sleep on the mattress due to hip and lower back problems that the mattress makes worse. Is there any recourse?

We have had our Tempur-Pedic for about 1.5 years. I started having pain in my right leg joint or groin area after about 6 months. It took years for it to get much worse and for us to figure out that it was the mattress. I'm 6'6" and what was happening was my hip area, when sleeping on my right side (how I sleep most), sinks into the mattress. This causes my leg to slope up out of the indentation, leaving the area from my knee to my foot hovering over the mattress. Over the months, the weight of my leg has been like a pry-bar, pushing the top ball joint of my leg into a position that was causing the pain. I finally realized the pain decreased after I was away on business more than a few days. After reading the reviews here, I will consider it a $4000 write off.

Another issue I don't hear any one talking about is the memory foam action goes away after the mattress heats up from your body. By morning, you're just sleeping on a regular expensive piece of foam.

I invested in a Tempur-Pedic bed a few months ago and I wake up every morning in pain and my partner is the same. I called Tempur-Pedic, and first, calling at 8 am, I was on hold for 10 minutes. When I was finally connected to a live person, I was told it was a comfort problem, not under warranty. When I told her that I bought it from a licensed dealer, I was told it was the retailer's problem. When I told her it had been a few months since I purchased, she said it was beyond the 90-day trial anyway so there was nothing that could be done. This woman was so rude. I eventually told her that I was not going to argue with her and that in my opinion it was a Tempur-Pedic problem and they should stand behind their product. This is a horrible, horrible product and incredibly rude customer service! Buy another bed!

Tempur-Pedic mattresses do not live up to promises. We paid $8,200 for the Grand and were assured by Sleep Train that it would not overheat like other Tempur-Pedic mattresses - that it would be firm and thus, great for our backs. The mattress is firm for about two weeks and then ridges and sinkholes begin appearing everywhere. The mattress does not support the spine or any part of the body. It is like sleeping in a hammock if you are on your side, which is terrible for sciatica, hip problems, etc. When I first reported the ridges (week 3), I was told that was normal. Not so! The ridges deepened and then I learned upon washing the mattress cover that the foam was actually raising up at the seams by 2 inches or more.

After an hour trying to speak to someone who would give me their name, I was connected to a representative who could not be reached. Phone calls could only go out, not in. I was told to photograph the incident, photograph the log tag, include lots of info from this tag, photograph my receipt, etc. In doing so, I discovered the faulty foam was manufactured in Mexico (surprise, surprise), but the good news is that I was told my bed was defective and they would send me a new one. I was so happy! I assumed (wrongly) that the ridges, the softness, the heat, the ditches that would form every time I laid on the bed would all go away since the mattress was defective. Not so! The new mattress was softer, hotter, formed deeper ditches and so uncomfortable I was convinced we had been given a cheaper model bed than the $8,200 Grand.

We checked the log tag, convinced that something was wrong, but the tag read "Grand." The 20-year warranty is a joke because this bed is so uncomfortable no one could keep it for more than a few years without experiencing terrible back pain. I love to read in bed - not possible with the Tempur-Pedic because you sink so low it kills your back. Even watching TV in bed is painful. Like other unhappy Tempur-Pedic owners, I wake up with my arm numbed from sinking into the bed. Sex is a nightmare because no one can move. Both of us get stuck in ditches and holes made from lying on the bed. I never had a hip problem until I bought this bed! I have to sleep with a pillow between my legs to sleep on my side and another pillow to protect my arm. It is ridiculous!

I can't get my money back, but I can warn everyone I know not to buy this bed. Also, Sleep Train was of no help and participated in the Tempur-Pedic lies by pushing the product. I won't buy from them again either as they are not honest. Read the reviews. I wish I had! Biggest financial mistake I've ever made!

Before I made the purchase of the Tempur Cloud Luxe, I was reading all kinds of reviews (mostly positive) so I decided to take a plunge to buy the top of the Cloud line in king size which cost me well above $4,300. Since then I was not able to sleep all through the night. Money is not the problem, all I want is to have a restful night of sleep. When laying on the mattress with my wife, we both cling to each other as if we are falling into a pit in the middle. I cannot turn my body sideways and I cannot get up the way I do with other mattress. This Tempur only did not help, but it also destroyed my sex life. It has no bounce, no spring. It just lays down there like a sinkhole, except this sinkhole is very expensive. I'm sure some people will like this sinkhole, but this Tempur is not what I need. It is basically a plaster mold. It will mold around anything laying on it. I could not be able to move around on the bed the way I always do. Worst ever piece of rubber.

My wife and I bought a Tempur-Pedic Cloud mattress 30 days ago. Over the past few years, I have started to wake up with lower back pain and we thought it was time to get something more supportive and comfortable than our 10 year old innerspring mattress. Long story short, I have much more back pain now than I did 30 days ago. Even my wife has complained of intermittent back pain and numbness in her arms and hands. The bed feels great when I first get in it but after a few hours, I get woken up by a very painful lower back (the pain subsides when I get up and walk around).

I went back to our old mattress (in the guest room now) and although the pain is not completely gone, it is much better and can at least sleep for 6-7 hours without waking. The Tempur-Pedic is going back. Since we purchased our Tempur-Pedic, we have talked to a number of people and done more research online. It turns out that most people either love them or hate them (also common with all other mattress types). Hopefully, I can find a mattress that helps. We will be trying an air-core adjustable firmness mattress next.

After reading that article, I slept on a non-memory foam mattress and in just one night, my pain decreased! It sickens me that these products aren't governed to be required to advise the consumer of the potential side effects! I spent $4,000 on a Tempur-Pedic Ergo bed. Prior to the sale, I was told that Tempur-Pedic beds do not get dust mites and since I am allergic to dust mites, I bought the bed. I woke every morning with a headache. After allergy tests, the thing that showed up the most was dust mites! I vacuumed the mattress, put two mattress pads on it (one is required in order not to void the warranty), washed all the bedding (which I wash frequently anyway), and no headaches. Then I read a research study which stated that Tempur-Pedic mattresses contain five to six times as many dust mites as regular mattresses. Why is Tempur-Pedic permitted to use false advertising? And why isn't there a class action lawsuit that people like myself can participate in? I have the proof from my allergist that Tempur-Pedic beds contain dust mites.

In May of 2012, I went to move my son into a new apartment at college and found his bed had also come apart and the small top foam has disintegrated. I have called, written, sent pictures and more pictures. Tempur-Pedic has declined the warranty. First, they said it was water damage. There was no water on this mattress and furthermore, the picture was on the sticky side where the glue was that held the three layers together.

Then I told them I had put the mattress in storage for 2 months while the other apartment was getting ready. They then said putting it in storage caused the problem. The problem occurred while my son was sleeping on it. The mattress was only 8 years old and he used it with the adjustable base. Then, I realized that most of the damage was where he was sitting while the headboard was adjusted. No matter what I said, Tempur-Pedic customer service found one way after another to state the warranty wouldn't cover the mattress. I was so impressed with the manner in which they promptly replaced the first mattress. But this second one which did exactly what the first one did, no way would they honor the warranty. Take heed!

Potential Health Hazards and Tempurpedic Mattresses - I started sleeping on a tempurpedic memory foam mattress in 2001. Within a short period of time, I developed a cough that woke me in the middle of the night sometime between 1:30 and 3:00 AM. I would cough uncontrollably for 20-40 minutes to the point of choking from excessive mucus. For almost an entire ten-year period in which I slept on a tempurdedic memory foam mattress, I experienced difficulties breathing, coughing, throat and sinus irritations, night sweats, etc. throughout the night. Sixteen months ago, I was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). I spent nearly a decade attempting to figure out what was making me sick. After discussing my condition with two doctors, they both came up with the same explanation - I was suffering from an allergy and or an environmental irritant.

During a visit to the doctor's office in February 2011, the doctor asked me a question. He asked me if I cough when I am away from home on vacation or business. I answered no, just when I am at home. He responded by saying that meant the problem originated with something in my home environment. I continued to search for the cause of the cough, breathing difficulties, night sweats, etc.

A fortuitous event occurred when I applied for and was granted a second warranty exchange on my tempurpedic memory foam mattress. (The original mattress purchased in May 2001 was defective and I received a prior replacement). The second new replacement mattress arrived on Friday, February 24, 2012. By Monday morning, February 27, my condition had worsened dramatically and I couldn't walk into my bedroom. The smell coming from the mattress burned my eyes and it was extremely difficult to breathe while standing in the bedroom. (My husband also slept with me on the same tempurpedic memory foam mattresses and he experienced night sweats and suffered from high blood pressure).

Finally, after nearly 10 years, I realized that my cough, night sweats and breathing problems had to do with the mattress. I immediately removed the mattress from my bedroom into a spare bedroom and closed the door. It is almost four months since the mattress was moved to the spare bedroom and even with the windows open, the strong smell in the bedroom permeates the room and prevents me from going inside for more than just a few minutes. When visitors come and I open the door, the first thing anyone notices is the smell.

Within two days of not sleeping on the new tempurpedic memory foam mattress, the majority of my problems improved significantly. Unknown to me for almost a full decade, I've been sleeping on bed that I believe has made me sick. One might wonder how come it took me so long to figure out the cause of my problems. The best explanation I can give is that I trusted that there are consumer product safety laws that protect me. It never occurred to me that the US Consumer Product and Safety Commission hadn't thoroughly vetted any potential problems with the tempurpedic memory foam material prior to its use by the American public.

I assumed the bed I slept on would be safe, especially since people generally spend a third of their existence in bed. Surely, our government made certain that the beds we sleep on are safe. I never gave it a moment's thought that the bed I sleep on had the potential to make me sick. One need to only stand in the room with the tempurpedic memory foam mattress for a few seconds to experience the unpleasant nasty stench. It has a slight resemblance to the smell in our high school chemistry lab when we dissected a frog.

After it became obvious in February 2012 that the mattress was emitting nasty smells, I decided to go online and research the tempurpedic memory foam mattress. I learned that my problem was not unique. This problem has apparently been known for many years. Had I checked online sooner, I would have found plenty of information and complaints shared by many others with similar problems. The following is a quote taken from the website Chem-tox.com: "The tempurpedic was not really "endorsed" by NASA, but we were informed that it was researched by NASA - but rejected for use in the space industry because of chemical volatility issues."

Just slightly over three months ago, my husband and I got rid of our saggy old spring mattress, which was contributing to minor backaches and pains for both of us. We paid $2,000 for a new Tempur-Pedic Cloud mattress and they threw in one free pillow, which my husband has been using. For the first few weeks, life was grand. We were both sleeping better than on the old mattress and waking up refreshed and pain-free. Then, I began having horrible difficulty falling asleep on the Tempur-Pedic. I started getting pain in my hips, legs and knees several minutes after lying down so if I don't fall asleep immediately, I toss and turn half the night (I'm a healthy 49 and have never had hip problems before).

My arms and legs start going numb no matter what position I'm in and I have woken up in a panic because my arm is so absolutely asleep that I have to pick it up, a dead weight, with the other arm in order to move it. My husband hasn't experienced these things, but he has experienced pain in the ear that's on the pillow when he wakes up. I also have to turn the thermostat down at night because the mattress gets too warm for comfort. We feel gypped. We paid a lot of money thinking that this might be the last mattress we'd ever buy. Now, after just missing the 90-day cutoff for a refund, we're in the market for a new mattress. Wish we had read these complaints before purchasing. Ah well, it's only money, right?

I've tried over the past 12 months to get used to it, but just cannot sleep on it. I paid $2,899 + tax and feel very let down. Tempur-Pedic, what do you have to say to help your customer? Probably nothing. I hope I'm wrong.

Tempur-Pedic ruins back and wallet. I bought a Tempur-** master 2000 in the early 2000's from Brookstone, a king bed. We spent $1,600 and it came with a card stock piece that said 20 year warranty! Yeah, sure, warranty. I guess when your memory foam is designed by NASA, warranty means you are screwed. I hate this company. The warranty is a joke. What you have to do to actually get it honored is insane. There has to be a 4" sag in the bed before they will accept that it has failed. Never mind that there are two giant hammock shaped divots where my wife and I sleep. It's like sleeping in sand, that hurts.

I have a bad back, but my wife didn't. Now she does, and it's from this bed. I don't know how I'm going to get my money back, or ever get the warranty honored. I have no belief that I'll ever get it back. So I'm just going to buy a bed that doesn't destroy my spine. I've got tumors in my back, and every morning I wake up, it is utter agony. The tumors are like scar tissue, and I'm certain this lying, cheating, scumbag of a company sold me a lousy product that contributed to this.

It will be my mission in life to cost them as much money in lost revenue, and to help other people to never, ever, have to go through what I have by buying such an awful product. I'll admit for the first couple years, it was great, but then within a month, it just well, ** the bed.

Never ever do business with this company!! Their products make people sick, and they are worthless. They lie about their warranty, and never honor them. There are thousands of people like me online with these same issues. The positive reviews you are seeing are people who have only had the bed a couple years. I even recommended it to a friend after we had ours only two years. I feel terrible I did this to my friend, but, hey, it's not like I knew I was getting screwed. Now you do. Don't buy anything from these people. I mean, come on, their slippers are even being slammed here! Worst thing ever.

On the pillow cover, I was told that there had been a problem and those that called were being added to an excel spreadsheet and a supervisor would contact me. Two weeks later, I phoned customer service again and requested a supervisor. She took my information and finally two weeks later, the cover arrived. I also asked about the free pillow offer. I was given several phone numbers to call to attempt to find out about the missing pillow. After phone calls, e-mails and attempts by the store that I purchased the original pillows, nothing.

The promotions departments and customer service do not care about assisting with the problem. If you are offered with a promotion with a purchase, beware. If you decide to use the offer, send it so the information can be tracked. Be sure to insist that it must be signed for. Even with all of that, I doubt you will see the promised product.

In May 2002, we purchased a Tempur-Pedic mattress. We did not notice any smells at the time, and that could be because we lived in a 1940's farm house with substantial air leaks that would minimize the build up of smells inside. At some point, I developed a cough that would wake me in the middle of the night, and I thought I had the flu or a virus.

Over the past 10 years while sleeping on my Tempur-Pedic mattress, I have gotten up coughing. About a year ago, I was diagnosed with COPD; and the doctor said said it was caused by something in my environment. He knew it was an environmentally-based problem because he asked me if I coughed when on vacation. I told him I didn't cough when I was away.

Last Friday, February 24, we received a replacement mattress from Tempur-Pedic. The mattress being replaced sagged, and we wanted the warranty replacement. The delivery people set up the bed and removed the older mattress. Then my husband and I noticed a chemical smell in our bedroom and thought it was just the delivery packing. The smell intensified throughout the night as we slept, and of course, I woke up coughing, only it was around 12 midnight versus 3 AM when I usually woke coughing and choking over the past 10 years.

By Monday morning, February 27, I could not walk into my bedroom. The off-gassing from the mattress was so bad, and my head now hurts that I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that I was dealing with strong toxic environmental pollutants. Finally, after 10 years of suffering, I now know the origin of the problem; and we've removed the new mattress and placed in a room with ventilation, so as not to contaminate the rest of our home. I can't go anywhere near the mattress.

I went on the internet Monday morning after being run out of my bedroom and found more complaints than I could count, and they weren't just against Tempur-Pedic. There are other manufacturers now producing memory foam mattresses, and they too have petrochemical off-gassing problems causing illnesses.

When will our regulatory agencies start making inquiries into the product safety of memory foam mattresses. How was the material tested before it was allowed to be introduced into the market? Fortunately, our son is a Materials Science and Engineering student at Drexel University, and I plan to speak with him regarding testing standards for consumer products. I wonder how much money has been spent on healthcare problems resulting from consumer products made from memory foam. Thank you.

I purchased a Tempur-Pedic Cloud Luxe Queen Mattress and Base from Mattress Firm. I spent over $5,100. The salesperson said it might have a slight odor for a couple of days. When it was delivered, it had the worst reek I could imagine. It made my whole house smell like a chemical dump. I called Mattress Firm and was told to open the windows and put out baking soda! That did nothing. I told them to contact the truck drivers and bring back my old mattress and springs.

They waited over an hour to do so, and I was told my old mattress and springs had been destroyed. They said they would pick the new mattress and base up and put my bed back together and let me have a loaner until I could come into the store. They brought another foam mattress made by Sealy, put it on top of the base and still left my bed parts on the floor. This one reeked just as badly.

What can of chemicals are the manufacturers putting in these things? If I wanted cancer, I could just start smoking again! Now I am stuck with chemicals wafting through my house and no place to sleep and a splitting headache from the fumes.

I was promised I'd receive my order before Christmas and that the order would be expedited. Note: They offer free shipping and free returns.

Two weeks later, I get 3 emails from Tempur-Pedic in the same day, saying slippers were not in stock. All three pair ends up being too large. I call Tempur-Pedic and was told I would receive a return shipping label in the mail, but it might take some time because they had received many requests for returns.

After 6 weeks, I call Tempur-Pedic again and was told they sent me the shipping label. I explained I never received it. I was told they would email me the label. I never received it. Finally, I decided to ship the slippers back in mid February and pay for the shipping myself. I am currently waiting to see if I get credit on my charge account for the returned slippers. I sent a rather long letter to headquarters, Certified Mail, and it's still sitting in the post office for over a week now, waiting for someone to pick up their mail and sign for my letter.

I do not expect to receive a refund for my cost in sending the slippers back. I do expect to see a credit on my account. And, by the way, did I mention not only do their slippers run large, they were not made very well for $50 slippers! One of them did not have the memory foam in the toe area. Shabby company! They should be ashamed of themselves.

I bought a queen mattress and ergo adjustable frame about 2 years ago. They touted the 20 year warranty, which made me pretty comfortable buying the set (which everyone knows is extremely expensive). For the last few months, I've been having issues with the adjustable bed/remote not working, or working sporadically. For the last month, it did not work at all. The lights on the remote and on the power boxes on the bed both lit up like they should, but there was no response when hitting the buttons on the remote.

I called the service number on the remote and after waiting, was sent to voice mail. The next day, someone called me back. Customer service wasn't the best, the gentleman put me on hold after getting my information and problem. When he returned, he started with "thanks for calling Tempur-Pedic, how can I help you? " to which I replied I had been working with someone and was put on hold. He asked for my phone number and looked up my case. After asking if I had tried unplugging the bed (which I had told him I had done multiple times previously), he then proceeded to tell me that the power box attached to the frame under the bed was bad. He also told me it would cost me around $200 to replace and that none of the electrical parts are covered by any warranty.

It seemed ridiculous to me that I spent over $1300 on the adjustable frame alone and no part of the electrical was covered by any warranty, and also that it seemed that they were just telling me that it was the most expensive part that needed to be replaced. I now have a $1300 hunk of junk metal frame sitting in my bedroom because they don't care to do any type of troubleshooting or provide a good warranty for their product. Buyer beware! The 20 year warranty is, when you read the fine print, solely to protect the company and not the consumer.

Leave the apartment and the headaches within 20 minutes are gone. At first, thought it was some carbon monoxide in the building and obtained a detection device. The device works because 6 weeks after purchase it went off. Thankfully, because there was an actual leak from the hot water heaters in the basement of the building so, I saved a lot of other people some problems including the building owners.

The headaches continue and only happen when the room area where the mattress is located is heated up. Once the room begins to warm, the headaches begin to surface, again starting in the teeth and slowly moving through the upper and lower jaw bones and into my skull bone (the way I know, this is the only time I've ever actually "felt" my jaw bones and my skull bones and it is horrible pain).

Since cooler weather is back, I've started turning on the heat a little to get the chill out of the air and now the headaches are back as well. I'm really not one to get headaches. I am a 58-year-old lady and live on a fixed income. So when I bought a Tempurpedic mattress in August 2008 at $3941.09, it was a very big deal. Since that time, I have been suffering with increasing headaches and complaining of knee and lower back pain and being tired all the time. Now I find out that the mattress gives off gases for the life of the mattress which cause the symptoms I am having.

I now read numerous complaints on your site about other people having the same trouble, and just like them, when you call Tempurpedic and ask what chemicals and gases are in the mattress, they say "Our process is a secret." and to contact the product safety commission. I was given no warning notice when I purchased this bed; there should be a warning label.

Every time I see the commercials they suddenly have out again, I just want to cringe! This is the absolute worst bed I have ever had! Not only does it kill our backs, but the heat that comes out of it is unbearable! I know of no one that likes hot beds! Also, the smell! You watch, years from now there will be a recall or lawsuit! I am surprised this has not occurred yet. There must be lack of sales since you have to constantly air the commercial. "Ask me", ask me how much we and many others hate this bed and all the problems we got from using it! I am surprised you all can sleep at night! Oh, I guess because you don't own one of these beds! We have complained also but get nowhere. You people that did get somewhere, good for you! But I think they put an end to fixing the problem for all others. After all, how will they get rich before they get sued!

As a doctor, I have real concerns about the strong odor emanating from our Tempur-Pedic mattresses--odors my wife has characterized as "chemically", "paint-like" and as being similar to stale cat urine. Also, these odors take an unacceptably long time to dissipate. I have expressed our concerns to Tempur-Pedic Customer Service representatives on several occasions and have also taken the time and effort to bring them to the attention of the Chief Executive Officer and CEO of Tempur-Pedic as well as to the attention of Tempur-Pedic's Research and Development department.

I have specifically inquired as to the nature of any chemicals used in the manufacturing process and whether or not these chemicals are known or suspected to have any adverse effects on human health, especially with regard to pregnancy, reproduction, and development (e.g. embryologic and cytogenetic effects, etc.). The Customer Service representatives with whom I have communicated have all assured me Tempur-Pedic products are safe and have repeatedly cited proprietary reasons for not being able to disclose the chemicals used in their manufacturing process.

Furthermore, even though it has been requested, no one with Tempur-Pedic has been able or is willing to provide documentation substantiating their claims with regard to safety. Providing chemicals are used in their manufacturing process, where are the studies showing these chemicals are safe? Inquiries directed to specific individuals within the Research and Development department were referred to a lower tier of support which, once again, echoed what was conveyed previously.

And we have not yet received any response from Mr. Mark S., Chief Executive Officer and President of Tempur-Pedic, with respect to our concerns. This stinks both figuratively and literally. As one might imagine, the impact and potential liability resulting from the use of chemicals suspected or known to have adverse effects on human health could be enormous. And even if residual amounts are below toxicity thresholds established for adults, they could potentially be of consequence to the developing fetus and/or children. Also, LD50, for example, establishes exposure limits based on the death of 50% of the population and does not reflect consequences of exposure in the surviving 50%.

I'm going to tell you a good and bad story regarding Tempur-Pedic. I too had a Tempur-Pedic mattress for years. I always woke up stiff, but told myself, "It can't be the mattress. It's a Tempur-Pedic.” Many years later, I had to buy another mattress and it had to be a good one as I now suffer from peripheral nerve damage. I decided to find a generic version of Memory Foam as I could not afford the $3,000 price tag.

After getting tricked into buying inferior fake Memory Foams, I did extensive research and found a company that made a good quality memory foam mattress. I woke up and all the stiffness was gone. I couldn't believe that this $500 mattress felt better than a Tempur-Pedic. It felt so good that after I lost my previous business from a stroke and developed the nerve damage, I decided to sell them to people and set up a home based Memory Foam mattress shop.

The Tempur-Pedic that hurt to sleep on for so many years ago led me to research and finding a great generic that now has saved my life as, at 50, I once again am supporting myself. I make people wake up happy at the same time. The moral of the story is that Tempur-Pedic is not all that it's cracked up to be and they mark it up 10 times what it costs to make it. Find a good generic, but make sure it's good. That means do your research and make sure it's 5 lb density with an ILD of 15 and at least 3" of the stuff over a poly base and you'll save your back and your pocketbook thousands of dollars!

Tempur-Pedic arrived and felt good the first few days. I began to feel a sinking into the bed that got deeper each night. At less than one month, I began to hurt in the ribs and hips. By the 6th week, I started to have pain in the knees and began to sleep with two knee braces. Then it was out of the bed to the guest room.

Tempur-Pedic has no customer service. They only want to get you out of the 90 day guarantee period. When my wife called, it was the third call, their comment was "most people don't have this problem". I really don't care about most people’s experiences. I care about the excessive amount of money I paid for this product.

The seller was told Tempur-Pedic would take care of all of the problems. At seven months, the pick-up people called from Arizona to check on the local address, they were only 2,000 miles off, it’s Kentucky. I continue to hold on for the pick-up and can only expect the time that it will take for the credit on the account. I can't have another king size bed to be delivered no place to put it. It will not be a Tempur-Pedic! As a chiropractor, I cannot recommend this product.

I have a Tempur-Pedic California King Size bed. I have had 2 mattresses in the last 5 years. I always have the same complaint. The mattress feels good at first, as time goes by, your body sinks into the mattress, even your heels from your feet leave a dent in the mattress. It doesn't matter if it's hot or cold.

All the while you sleep in a hole. You toss and turn more, your back hurts, your neck hurts even more. I have complained to Tempur-Pedic several times. All they want is pictures showing the indentations, then maybe, maybe you'll get another mattress that will do the same thing all over again. Thank goodness there is a 20-year-warranty, because that's how many times you'll have to replace it.

As far as I am concerned, I will never tell people to get a Tempur-Pedic mattress. It is just downright horrible. I can't believe I paid $4,500.00 for a bed that sinks where ever your body lays. Somebody is making a lot of money off these mattresses and it's not me. All I get is pain and my husband refuses to sleep with me in that bed. I have asked for my money back the first time around, Tempur-Pedic said, “No, but if your take pictures, we'll see if there is reason to issue you a new mattress.”

I purchased a top of the line tempur pedic bed with the "ergo" base manufactured by their Reverie Bedding affiliate. The base consists of a remote and 4 motors that move the unit in different ways. We purchased the set from a chain store retailer. Essentially we are relatively satisfied with the product. The brackets, however, that comes with the frame is flimsy. When I attached the bracket assembly to the frame and then the headboard to it, the weight of the solid wood headboard was sufficient enough to pull the entire headboard back and away from the frame, bending the steel and putting undue stress on the entire assembly.

In addition, the part of the brackets that connect directly to the frame on either side were bending downward as a result of the stress. The brackets are simply too thin to support a solid wood headboard. Traditional bed frames have solid steel welded construction where attaching any headboard is a non-issue. After repeated efforts, it became clear to me that customer service could not help. They redirected me to other areas that couldn't help either. An independent parts distributor explained that he only handles the motor assemblies, but that he had gotten other similar inquiries directed to him by customer service.

It wasn't until I contacted the office of the President of Tempur Pedic US that I began to get responses. The customer service folks reviewed my photos and confirmed that I put everything together properly. They sent a few screws and bolts (I had to purchase new screws as theirs were much too long). After drilling a few holes into my headboard to better secure it to the bracket and after adjusting the bracket attachment closer to the bed frame, the bending was less severe, however, still present. The headboard should be able to stand perpendicular to the bed without needing the support of the wall, which I still need to keep the headboard from bending outward. I think they need to supply thicker brackets, which they told me they would recommend to their engineering department. That was it! They said they could not do anything else. I don't think their final response was appropriate since this is a high end item and I spent $5,400 for the bed and frame (includes tax). I believe that I should not have to use the wall to support the headboard and that over time the stress on the frame could do more damage.

Last May we purchased a Classic 9" Queen Tempur-pedic mattress along with a mattress cover and a couple of Tempur-pedic pillows from Sleep Country in Portland, Oregon. We picked this model because we were told it was the FIRMEST of all models.
NO ONE mentioned that these beds have an horrific chemical odor, but the salesman said that we would need a special mattress cover (which we purchased) and that we should not use the hypoallergenic queen size mattress cover that we have, that completely covers the mattress but should buy, separately a special Premium Queen Mattress Protoqueen cover that is specifically for Tempur-pedic mattrasses. We were told that it would take 30 to 60 days to “break in the bed and this could be done by laying and sitting all over the bed. Unfortunately, the odor was overpowering even though I washed the mattress cover and sheets two or three times a week. And, the bed seemed to become less and less supportive. The horrible chemical smell plus the diminishing firmess of the bed has led to many restless nights with nausea, back, leg and side pains. And I know it is the bed because during a two-week road trip this past fall we slept on beds in many upscale motels like Comfort and Hampton Inns etc., and NEVER had any problems on their beds. I wrote to to Tempur-Pedic in August of 2008 about our problems with the mattress and they responded that we should put a thick mattress pad on the bed. We purchased a thick mattress pad from Costco but the strong chemical odor continued and now I was laundering the sheets, the mattress cover AND the mattress pad two or three times a week. Also, the bed seemed to become less and less firm. I tend to have hot flashes at night and perhaps this in some way impacts the bed, but it took more than four months for the odor to become tolerable and it is still overpowering if I don’t launder all the mattresses covers frequently, or maybe I've just become used to the smell. This is a truly horrible part of owning a Tempur-pedic bed and a problem that should be noted by all salesmen when someone is interested in the bed. None of their advertisements mention either the smell or the fact that body heat or room temperature can make the bed less firm. Tempur-pedic as responded that they will replace the bed but have not addressed the problems with odor and diminishing firmness except to state that this is inherent in the bed, thus replacing it would not solve the problem. We would like to be refunded our purchase price and have them pick up and remove this bed. The bed was purchased from SleepCountry Jantzen Beach in Portland, Oregon and specifically states that there are no product returns but DOES NOT mention the odor problems with the bed or the fact that heat makes the bed less firm.

I have now my SECOND Tempurpedic bed--cal king (I paid $2374 for the first 1/22/02)..

The first was replaced 3/28/06 after a cumbersome procedure to test the bed, which had sagged in the middle, causing us to roll towards each other, and caused thigh and hip muscle spasms, and back pain. After about 7 months we began to have the same symptoms again from the replacement, and noticed the center of this bed also was sagging.

3/16/07 I once again contacted the warranty department with my story.

3/19/07, This time a different person answered my inquiry, instructing me to "please take photos with the cover pulled back and a straight edge across the mattress to illustrate a sag or impression." (A less rigid procedure than I was instructed to undertake with the first bed)

This I did and returned by email the same day. 3/26, not having received a reply, I emailed again, to hear if they had received my photos.

3/28 I resent the same email.

    3/30 I received a reply, stating:

"Your claim has been forwarded on to my manager for review and once I receive confirmation from him I will update you."

4/8 I sent the following email:

    Alison,

It is now 8 days since your last email, 21 days since I sent you the pictures, 27 days since we emigrated from our master bedroom, bath, nitestands--all we call cozy and convenient--to our guest bedroom. (Actually, we reoccupied the bed a week ago, and the pains returned in about 3 days, so guess where we are again!)

Waiting, waiting, waiting. Wondering what in the world can be the delay--are you understaffed, have you lost my email address, or do you just not care? I cringe when I see the Tempurpedic ads on tv, thinking "if they only knew..."

Can you explain to me the delay??

    4/9 Came the following reply:

    Jim,

    Reference: Warranty Claim # 1448169

We have received your warranty claim and request and unfortunately at this time your claim has been denied.

Per management, the photos you provided do not show a warranty defect with the mattress and unfortunately we must deny your request for replacement.

Our Tempur-Pedic 20 year limited warranty states:

This limited warranty does not include a normal increase in softness of the Tempur pressure relieving material or a decrease in the slow recovery feature, neither of which affect the pressure-relieving qualities of the mattress.?

Please accept our apology for the issues you have experienced with your Tempur-Pedic product(s).

    Thank you,

4/10 I sent the following email:

    Alison,

I do not accept the decision of the "management" you refer to in the denial I have received, and want to follow up until we have reached a mutually agreeable settlement.

In your original email reply to me, you stated:

"If you would like to proceed with a warranty replacement of your mattress please take photos with the cover pulled back and a straight edge across the mattress to illustrate a sag or impression."

I assumed the original procedure requested for my first replacement (one year ago) had proved unnecessary, as you didn't ask me to remove the mattress to the floor, and to use a broom and ruler. Please tell me if that procedure is still the proper one, or exactly the method of measurement you require.

I will then follow that procedure and send you photos.

I remind you that both my partner and I are experiencing the following phenomena on this "less than a year old bed:"

    1. Pain in hip and thigh on the side one lies on, followed after a few days by tightness and spasmsin relevant muscles (glutes, tensor fascia latae, (radiating down IT band) and quadratus lumborum).

    2. The constant need to roll over and over, trying to get comfortable.

    3. On my back, I lie at an angle slanting towards the midline of the mattress, coupled with a tendency to roll toward the midline.

    4. Feels like most of my body weight is on my hips, which have sunk lower than the legs and upper body, and seem to be resting on a hard, inflexible surface.

The significant reasons I purchased this mattress are found in the literature you have released, and from which I quote:

    1. "Back & neck pains find relief ... your body is relaxed..."

    2. "I promise you will not be disappointed with our bed ... I run this company my way, and I don't want anybody to get stuck with a bed they don't love." (Former director, Bob Trussell)

    3. (6). "It selectively adjusts itself to give you and your spouse maximum comfort."

    4. (12). "Your entire musculoskeletal structure 'touches' the mattress--allowing your entire body (even the tensest lumbar muscles) to relax and loosen up!"

I here repeat that we are suffering considerable pain and suffering in this matter, as well as extreme inconvenience. On April 4, we returned to our master bedroom and the mattress in question, and tonight (April 10) will return again to the guest room, to our 12 year-old Restonic mattress. The pains and muscle spasms, which had abated, have once again returned after 6 nights on the Tempurpedic!!

We ordered a Tempur-Pedic Deluxe mattress from Sleepys and received the delivery at 1:30pm Friday, 03/23/07. After they removed the plastic, we were immediately confronted with a strong chemical odor. After spending about 10 minutes in the room, I became extremely nauseas, dizzy, and started with headache. My husband also felt sick and started with a headache.

We opened all windows and allowed the mattress to "out-gas". Due to the fumes spreading throughout the house, we had to close the door of the bedroom and put towels under the door to contain the fumes. We kept the windows open throughout the night (although cold) and slept in the guest room. The following morning the smell was stronger, and I became more nauseas and continued with a headache. I have a constant bad taste in my mouth, burning feeling in my throat, and feel as though the smell is in my clothes, hair, skin, etc. Our master bathroom is attached to our master bedroom (where the mattress is), and I left my toothbrush on the counter with the door open.

The following morning I brushed my teeth with the toothbrush and shortly after the inside of my mouth and gums became raw, as if my skin was raw, and I developed sores.

I checked the Internet for any possible harmful affects this could be having on my family (especially my baby), and read 100+ complaints of health problems related to a Tempur-Pedic mattress.

All clothes and materials in the bedroom the mattress is in, now have a strong chemical odor.

I fear for the long term health problems this may have on my family.

Sleepys agreed to return the mattress, but we had to purchase another mattress and receive store credit for the rest.

They didn't seem to be surprised by the problem.

Tempurpedic should not be selling materials that are harmful to ones health. I am willing to work with anyone on class action suite against Tempur-Pedic for them benefiting at the risk of others.

Because of this situation I have lost trust in the buying of goods. And actually, I feel that I am lucky that the gas emanating from this mattress had an odor, because I was able to detect it, remove it (soon), and possibly save my family from cancers and/or other health aliments. However, from this point on, I will be weary in purchasing anything, because I have lost trust in the FDA/US Consumer product safety commission.

They also advertise the consumer has "nothing to los" by trying it.

Now, however, they say they never take the frame back and now refuse to stand by their promises fof a full return. Ms. Johnson epmailed me in November to try it further, which I did, for I believed after that they would finally pick it up. Now, she is saying I wated too long, even after all the many attempts on my part to return it. I believe they use the ploy of advertising total satisfactin or they will accept it, but fail to advertise and fully dsclose that the consumer must keep the frame. Ms. Johnson as much as stated this in an e-mail, that once they are told they cannot return the frame, most clients opt to keep the mattress as well. that is a frank admission that many do not know the frame is unreturnable and I believe that is the hook that whic allows them to deceive and cheat the comsumers.
