Request/incident #**... Used Venmo incident free for over a year. Then traveled overseas and couldn't link my bank to transfer funds. Supposedly someone else linked that account (which I applaud and find amazing). However this rogue never withdraws money... Hmmmm. I'm a simple guy. I have 1 bank account and 1 Venmo. If someone hacked me, why aren't they stealing money? Also in order to prove it's my account I need to show valid ID. I take a photo of my Untied States passport (as I'm traveling for months overseas). And the response I get is that it doesn't show my name. WTF. STAY AWAY. The company has major issues and isn't invested in solving customer issues if they arise.

Venmo recently froze my account, based on the fact that my wife and I share the same account. Their only solution to unfreeze it was to ask me to provide a copy of my driver's license and bank information electronically. As a CEO of a major company, which deals often with fraud and identity theft, this was not an acceptable solution. I asked that the money be returned to the sender, which they refused. So, basically, unless I put my personal identity at risk, they will keep the money indefinitely. What kind of scam is this? Fortunately, for me, it’s a very small sum, but I will not use Venmo ever again.

Myself and my husband have Venmo accounts. When I was trying to add bank account for receiving payments, it was throwing an error (instead of showing exact error, it says "your bank account doesn't support this"), which is wrong. When I contacted customer service, I got to know that if we have joint account, then we can add only to one venmo account and other cannot Instead other one should add debit card, for which they are charging 1% fee. This is absolute non sense and one way to loot money from customers. They asked me if I dont have another bank account, then I need to incur fee. Please be careful in using Venmo when you are in this scenario.

I have never been so frustrated in my life trying to use an app. I have money on my account and cannot get it. They keep saying problem with the payment. I can't even access it with an ATM. I can't add my bank account either. I have noticed I'm not the only one who has this problem. I would not recommend this app...I have no idea why they have a customer service. They were just very rude and were no help whatsoever. They claim they have no answers.

I accidentally paid the wrong person the money that I was originally going to send to someone. I called Venmo and I asked them if they could reverse the transaction. Venmo then told me that I would have to reach out to the recipient when I have 0 idea who they are other than their Venmo account name. Venmo then said that they don’t provide mediation services and that they would need the recipient to reach out to them in order to file the refund. There’s a 0% chance someone that has no idea who I am is going to refund me my money that I just accidentally sent them. They will use it in their guilty pleasure and Venmo will watch with both their eyes.
Venmo is pathetic, their platform is trash, and I was willing to provide evidence and photos of me attempting to reach out to the recipient but instead this has turned into theft. Venmo still claims it's not their fault and they have no power reaching out to the recipient. In other words, they knew she was guilty of taking and not returning my money and now won’t help when it happened on their platform. Garbage Venmo is what they should rename it.

Do NOT WASTE YOUR TIME - If I could give them 0 or negative stars I would - At first it worked. Now it has my money in limbo and Plaid or whatever 3rd party Venmo works with will not support MULTIPLE banks including PNC BANK. Venmo has virtually NO Customer service and the illusion that they have someone or some kind of dept handling it (It's not open Sunday) WTF (YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR). PNC Bank Points to Venmo and says they have your money and they can't help. Venmo now wants me to pay to get my money out.
WHAT A SCAM - No wonder they were hacked recently and MILLIONS of our personal info was put out on net - But they won't tell you that or you'll never hear that happened. AVOID THIS P.O.S. app and company all together including PLAID or whatever or whoever these SCAMMERS use, Take it from a Google preferred contributor and Influencer. AVOID THEM. Try ZELLE or CASH APP and there are others as well out there that are FREE and actually have a customer service department that is open and will actually help you!

I, like most people at USA, eventually ended my collaboration with Venmo & PayPal. Unfounded Fee, huge account problems, inability to transfer and terrible service. Personally, I believe that Zelle is the safest for your money, as it is a direct program that is built into your bank 's personal account. I very much hope that soon PayPal and Venmo will ruin and in America will live much safer. ;)

Worst experience ever!!! I was scammed on 11/10@ 6:55pm. I purchased something from a “verified Venmo Account Holder”. I read their “do’s and dont’s” and was informed not to worry since it’s owned by Paypal (which I have never had an issue within 10 years). I went ahead and sent a $50.25 to this person. 3 hours later I find out he is trying to sell the same merchandise to my son, that also inquired”. I immediately sent an email to Venmo with the user name, picture, entire conversation history (along with my son's conversation). I called today, and was told they were sorry and would escalate the issue. An hour later I received and email from Venmo that said basically “tough luck, you lost your money and there’s nothing you can do about it." Mind you, the amount has not even cleared my bank yet due to the holiday.
I have never been so disgusted with a company in my life. Basically it’s okay to steal money from someone, even though they are verified with Venmo and they have their bank account it went into along with their email, name, etc. I will NEVER USE VENMO AGAIN! If you can’t protect people from theft, you are worthless! I’m have filed fraud with my bank and will be contacting the BBB on Venmo. Shame on you!!!! Please do not use them, if you value your money, because they clearly do not!!!!

A woman created a Facebook Marketplace Store and was selling nonexistent merchandise to users and sending us all Venmo requests for money. A few weeks after she received the payment, she cut off all communication and never sent the goods. I can confirm she did this to at least 6-8 other women on venmo. Apparently Venmo does not offer Buyer Protection (which I never knew) and will not refund me my money. I'm extremely disappointed in Venmo's lack of concern, care or recourse.

Someone sent me some money which I deposited into one of my bank accounts. For whatever reason, the money was sent to the wrong bank account. I contacted support and they told me that there is only a window of a couple minutes where they can cancel transactions and that since the payment was sent to the bank there was nothing they could do to get it back.
This makes me very angry because I needed that money in order to pay for crucial medications that I need. Because the money was sent to the wrong account I wasn't able to get my medications, forcing me to quit them cold turkey. I have been taking high doses for years which meant I went through considerably difficult withdrawal symptoms, which messed me up so much that I failed the midterm exam in one of my graduate classes and will most likely have to retake it. So this mistake will potentially cost me over $1000. I have never had any problems with Venmo before, and this seems like such a simple mistake that I don't understand why or how it was made in the first place.

I felt really uncomfortable doing this. I've had to follow up on emails after full weeks of no response. Seems like their strategy is to ignore until my problem disappears.

I tried the Venmo app to allow me to easily send money to and receive money from my son and send money to my granddaughter. That is all I ever used it for and it has NEVER been used for any other purpose. I received an email from Venmo stating they were closing my account because it had risky transactions and violated their policies. Obviously I was curious as to how I could have possibly violated their policy when my only transactions were between me and my son and between me and my granddaughter~~ nothing at all business related. They refused to answer my question stating it was at their own discretion. Not having the app is no big deal for me but having someone accuse me of something and not provide details or allow me to defend myself, really is insulting!
I will NEVER do business with them or their affiliates again and I warn anyone considering doing business with them to proceed with caution! I feel they have insulted my integrity and violated my rights. If you accuse someone of wrong doing, you should at least give them information to let them know what they allegedly did wrong! This causes me to question their integrity!

I ordered my Venmo card through the customer service department on October 5th. I was told it would be received in 5 to 7 days. The card was mailed from Venmo on October 9th. This is unacceptable for any "financial services" company to delay to this extent mailing a card to retrieve money placed in my account. They mail the card regular USPS with no tracking. A money card should always have a tracking applied for the consumer's peace of mind. Consider the rampant identity theft prevalent in the world today.
I called today to get an update on my card and was told it was 5 to 7 business days and it takes them time to "create" the card for a consumer. This feels like an extremely bad reason for such a delay. My card is now expected on October 16th which is still past (by 1 day) the expected 5 to 7 business days. This is unacceptable and should be investigated. I feel they are holding money hostage in order to capitalize on their interest earnings while the deposit sits with them. I mentioned my concerns with the lack of card tracking and was told the card can only be activated through their application so it's safe from id theft. Again, not sure what world they are living in but if people can steal identification or commit fraud without even possessing an actual card then this is not truly a safe method of insuring against theft. I feel they need to improve this process immediately and provide a better card service and theft prevention process.

I have been attempting to send my daughter money so she can install WiFi and allow us to see our granddaughter on a regular basis via video chat, however my payment keeps getting declined. My bank said nothing was wrong but when I called Venmo support I was told that there was a security issue with my account and they were not at liberty to tell me why or how I could resolve it. I was told to try it again at another time or use another means to send her the money. I then saw many other people having the same problem. It is quite frustrating, and in my opinion not acceptable for a company to handle customer service in this way.
I also saw that many users had their accounts frozen and were not able to access their money. It amazes me how they can be so successful acquiring so many users and simply not answer or resolve a simple issue that I know can be fixed. My evaluation of Venmo at this point is very low and if I don't get any answers, I will be deleting my information and my account and find a customer oriented company. Thank you for listening, Al **

This is the worst company ever. Received chat convos saying I have a weekly rolling limit of $4,999. I had been with them over a year. And we had just moved. Decided to use my Venmo credit and buy a bunch of stuff for our new home we needed. Then also paid money I owed on credit card, transferred money to my ex for my son's party. Etc. Long story short, they said my account was temporarily suspended. They needed my ID. Fine. Sent it. Then they wanted my bank statements and I thought that was fishy. I told them such, and they permanently closed my account without any explanation. Said they will not reply or speak to me. And the case is closed.
The money I sent to people was sent to them. Checked other emails and was told no credit limit. I'm so lost. I don't know if I was scammed into believing I had credit with them. I have no idea. And nobody there will help. They said that department only communicates thru emails. And then refuse to communicate. I even messaged back after reading reviews and said, "Fine, I'll send statements." The phone rep and his supervisor were rude and lack the basic empathy or willingness to solve an issue. The worst employees by far. I’d like to think Venmo as a company wouldn’t have this type of culture or else wouldn’t have lasted in the market for this long. The issue I was facing was; I made a payment to an account that did not exist and wasn’t able to cancel it. Venmo call reps made me call the receiver only to waste both our times with no concrete solutions. The receiver was visiting the US and couldn’t finish creating the Venmo account because a failed authentication. However, the money was taken from my account and was showing as transaction complete. The rep as well as his supervisor keep asking for valid US ID for a user who doesn’t even finish creating/ verifying the account.
When the supervisor was asked to escalate the issue to their engineering department or someone above him his response was, "I’m the only one you can speak to and hang up the phone on us!" I have used Venmo before for payment for not more than $500 at a time. That’s why I build my trust and suggest to my friend to try to sign up. At the end Venmo has taken my $ 2,089.33 and is not willing to return my money. After approximately 15 phone calls they finally admitted that they had received the money but said they had deposited it in my friend's account. He showed me and them three months' worth of statements, but they refuse to refund money. He has his lawyer involved now. I had to hop on somewhere and write a review about this place, because it's ridiculous. So I got Venmo, and at first it was fine. Didn't use it much, but every once in a while it was useful. Anyway, I got a new phone number, so I went to change it on Venmo's website. First, it wouldn't let me log in because it didn't recognize my computer. A nice safety feature, except I've only ever logged onto Venmo on this computer, so IDK how it wasn't recognized. So, whatever, I move on. It wants me to authenticate myself by inputting a pin that they will send to me, of course, via text. I don't have my old number, so I can't. There's also no other way to get the pin. Not through my bank information, not through my email, nothing. So I'm just like fine, I'll make a new account. Of course then, it won't let me do that, because my bank account is already connected to an account. So what do I do?
After messing with it for an aggravatingly long time, I find a way to submit a request for access to my own account. They require everything. My routing number, name of my bank, account number or card number, email, old phone number, etc. Finally, I'm through. I sent in the request, and am now waiting for a few days to hear back and hopefully be able to log into my account. So dumb. Anyway, end of rant. Thanks!

I recently accepted a $1,200.00 business payment through Venmo. I had been hesitant to go this route but was assured by the senders that Venmo was the easiest and fastest way to transfer money between two individuals. I should have trusted my instincts on this one, and stuck with something more reliable such as PayPal, CashApp, Zelle, or literally anything else.
Upon being notified that the $1,200.00 was delivered to my account, I immediately attempted to use the “instant” transfer feature to send the funds into my bank account for the $10 fee. But lo and behold, “Sorry, this instant transfer can’t be completed.” No further explanation was provided, but the app recommend I go ahead and use standard transfer instead. In doing so, I would need to connect it to my bank account (instead of the debit card with the latter situation). No problem. I went ahead and set that up, but at the very last step, the app informs me that my bank is connected to another account and cannot be connected to my Venmo account here. Frustrated, I gave their support line a call, hoping that a human being could provide some assistance. But no, despite it still being within their normal business hours, NO ANSWER.
I call again the following day, NO ANSWER. Finally, I write an email to them explaining the problems I was having. That’s when Venmo customer service representative “Myles **” joins in. Myles explains to me, that he isn’t really sure why any of this is going on, and that nobody else at Venmo will be able to explain the errors either. But, if I provide him a copy of my bank statement with my name, numbers, and other relevant info to him that he will be able to close the other account that my bank is linked to and initiate the transfer again. One hour later, I have gathered the statements he’s claimed he needs and sent it over to him. Seven days, and no response or update from him.
I reach out to him again to follow up, Myles then claims that he just “forgot to hit send” on a message and just needs my approval to close the other account, and once he got that, he’d take care of the rest. As soon as I opened that message, I gave him my approval. Once again, Myles does not follow up with me, and to no surprise, no updates are made to my account which would allow me to transfer funds. I called customer service again, and just like my other attempts NO ANSWER. Venmo is still withholding my funds, and despite my pleas for support from their team, it appears nobody is able or willing to assist me in time to transfer my hard earned money into my bank account to pay my bills. I am sad that I ever trusted this company with this transaction in the first place. I hope this review can help someone else from making the same mistake.

This "company" is a disgusting. As a third party money service they don’t have to meet the same standards as normal financial institutions. This "thing" has the most useless customer service, and process for filing claims. I cannot speak out more against them. They have no right to be in business. This "company" caused $1,807.00 in fraud on my account. I was called by their actual service number 855-812-4430 on Monday Aug. 19. 2019. At 5:14pm I confirmed with this person at that time that I was not attempting a transaction of $895.00 on the account. After I had confirmed my identity by receiving a texted verification number of ** from the number **. After confirming with this Venmo "person" I thought the matter was done as I was told the transaction would be cancelled. Then on Aug. 20. 2019. I find that not only was $895.00 taken but an additional $912.00 was also taken.
I called to Venmo to have this taken care of. Only to be told by their "customer service" agent that they do not do fraud calling. I was then additionally informed that it would take ten business days for my situation to be reviewed a majority of which would be spent on waiting to have a caseworker assigned. I escalated to a manager to be told that the department that handles claims does not have a phone system and that they only communicate with people ONLY through email. That even he as a manager and a fellow Venmo employee could not reach out to this person and have a conversation over the phone. One of the reasons he gave for this was "Talking to them on the phone might influence the investigation." Unacceptable. Then when I finally am able to get a Venmo disputes representative and after nearly two days of arguing over email I am able to get the money back.
I ask this person if this was the last I would hear from them or see anything basically and I was told yes. You would think this would be over but no. As of Aug. 23. 2019 the $895.00 was taken back. I emailed the caseworker soon as it happened. I heard from them at 9:38 am Central time ‘cause they are based in Central time while I am Eastern. They asked for proof of the transaction. I sent it immediately then heard nothing. I emailed at 2:46pm Eastern asking for an update. Heard nothing again, that is until I called Venmo again and got the joy of my life having to yet again reconfirm all that has happened with those incompetents they have running the phones. Even though they can clearly and plainly read all the correspondence I have sent by email to the caseworker. I only know that because the phrase "I can see here..." was used a lot. Then I ask for a manager who apologizes for the inconvenience of the matter.
Let us all get one thing straight. Fraud does not constitute an inconvenience. It is theft not waiting five extra minutes at Starbucks. I am told by this manager they sent a email to the caseworker. That I should hear from them soon. That I need to thankful I got a caseworker so quickly. The call ends and at the same time that happens the caseworker emails me. Proving that if I had not called into complain that they would never have responded. This person then instructs me the transaction should fall off my account and that if it does not send proof it has gone through and email again. I have done all this and I am still waiting like a prom night date by phone for an answer. The amount of complete nonsense and tomfoolery that runs amuck through this company is staggering for anyone with commonsense to conceive.
I have filed a Better Business Bureau complaint, and will be filing one with Federal Trade Commission, as well as the Attorney Generals office. This is type of lunacy that one must come to expect and accept from businesses started by two millennial half-wits. Let this be a cautionary tale NEVER TRUST MILLENNIALS. They are brainless ** who without strong arms to put them in place run amuck and end up developing or making completely idiotic businesses and products. They are the cancer of the body social. In hour #3 of trying to get the system to connect with my bank, I finally received a notice that they are having an "outage" in about 1/3 of the country. It's clear from the complaints that they are withholding funds from customers, with no adequate customer service to solve problems. Why are they not being investigated?

I spent a lot of time trying to set it up on my computer, but they then directed me to download their app. I did so, and followed the prompts until I got to the page that said, "Share your personal contacts and/or your Facebook contacts." I did NOT want to do that, but the way the page is set up, you can't continue until you agree. I tried to set up a live chat to see if I could decline to share my contacts, but there were so many customers ahead of me that I didn't have time to wait - which indicates to me that a lot of users are experiencing problems. So I cancelled the whole thing, decided to pay by another method, and deleted the app.

I used Venmo for about a year or so before I had an awful experience and I will never use this app again! I want to let people know what happened to me so it doesn't happen to anyone else!! My husband Venmoed me, so I could go pay some bills, and when I went to transfer the money over via instant transfer Venmo said instant transfer was unavailable. I talk to Customer Service on the app and they said that my account was flagged for some internal security system and that I would need to do a standard transfer of 1-3 days.
Not acceptable, what if this was someone waiting on food money?? Or money for medication?? So, my husband just had to give me his card so I could go down and pay the bills -- which is just a hassle, but again what if this was someone who needed money for a prescription?? Or something serious?? I asked Venmo CS this, and they said the same thing -- that even if this was an emergency they can't override and go through the back end of the code to unflag my account.
So, I'm in the process of doing the standard transfer just so we can get the money out of my Venmo (hopefully, fingers crossed). And then we will cancel both of our Venmo accounts. The fact is they are hiring people who don't know how to code and they are flagging accounts that have NO reason to be flagged and their CS department does NOTHING to fix or help customers who have been flagged because of their faulty codes. I just hope original deposit goes through on a standard transfer otherwise we'll be calling our banks and reporting Venmo as a fraud transfer.

It seems all the staff in the management can do is send it up to an account specialist, by the way you can’t call these account specialists. It takes 5 to 7 business days to get a response back from them through email. And all the managers can do is apologize and tell me that they’re so sorry that they can’t do anything for me.
This has to be one of the most annoying companies that I’ve ever dealt with! Not to mention that their actual employees hang up on you when it is a 15 minute wait on the phone. Asking me which one do I want to keep and delete.
I reply telling her first off my son is allowed to have an acct and whose acct isn't mine so why they are referencing his acct as being mine and a reason they feel they can freeze my acct is not acceptable. If it were my acct then Yes but how can they accuse me of having a duplicate acct and it's not mine? And the random one I never seen or heard of and is why they froze my acct. I didn't commit any violation by my son having an acct of his own and he's had his acct for sometime now, so how are they saying something now? Makes no sense.
In any event, I never heard back from the woman so today I looking to trying to get my funds and still froze so I reach out to their support team via chat and am told that my acct now required further review and will be 3-5 business days and this is the first time I have been advised such and I am pissed and would like to do anything possible to pursue action towards this company. Money is available but got the same message. I contacted Venmo. My transactions raised a "security flag," whatever that is. Several emails with customer service. They don't know why and can't fix it for me. Their suggestion was to add a 3rd bank account or try a credit card for a fee. What kind of company can't tell a consumer why there is an issue? It won't let me instant transfer citing an error that the feature is "unavailable at this time" and I called customer service...They won't help! Basically said they cannot override it and in order to keep their systems robust they have features that have something to do with security and can't tell me why it keeps being declined. Sent the money to my boyfriend and same thing happened. I even downloaded the app on my mom's phone and sent it to her and THE SAME THING.
Finally, even though I needed this money to pay for something TODAY I resigned myself to the fact that I just need the money OUT of Venmo period most importantly so I was going to do a bank transfer and just wait the three days. Which is extremely inconvenient if you are talking hundreds of dollars for someone who is on a budget and needing to pay for something. Anyway, trying to connect my bank account was also a nightmare! It kept bringing up that waiting sign and just stayed stuck there like it was frozen after I logged in trying to connect the account. I'm not joking in that I have spent literally hours of my time today on this nonsense. Finally, I had to try to log in to an entirely different bank account because when it went through it said there is a problem connecting the account. After all of this, I finally initiated the transfer and I am upset, pissed off, and horrified that this app actually does this with people's money.
I don't care how many successful transfers the app has or how many people use it. If I had a nightmare like this that's one person too many to be playing around with people's livelihood. And from this site I KNOW I am not the only one. This company should be ashamed of themselves. I will NEVER EVER use Venmo again and I will work hard to spread the word about how awful they are. Square cash has never given me even the slightest problem. Never again Venmo. I don't even write reviews but I went out of my way to do this one because of how pissed off I am about my money. Venmo sent a series of emails to me saying someone who had transactions with me stole money from them somehow. It was vague and no matter what I said they refused to clarify, which looked really suspicious. They were pretty abrupt and hostile to then say my account was permanently banned, and they act as if it's my problem they had a security breach. I still don't know what "terms of service" I broke. All of my transactions have been just fine and normal, in fact I only used the service for a few months among friends and acquaintances for the usual trades.
I even offered to help, if someone I know stole money I could just confront them. How conveniently, Venmo "couldn't give any info". Funny how they didn't think to tell me the date of the transaction or the number, considering I know my own account and they don't need to give any private info. How convenient for them. Here is response I received from Venmo customer service. Not acceptable. "I'm sorry it appears our system is declining your instant transfer attempt, which means this feature is not available to you for this transfer. There are many reasons that a transfer can be declined due to our automated transaction review process. In order to keep our internal systems robust, our customer-facing teams don't have access to the exact reasons."
I realize this is frustrating, but as we don’t have a way to override the decline, the best thing to do would be to initiate a standard bank transfer. A standard bank transfer should arrive in 1-3 business days. Please note, transfers are reviewed and could be delayed or blocked if we identify an issue. Review may result in funds being frozen or removed from your account.
To send your available Venmo balance to your bank with standard transfer, there are a few quick steps that you'll need to follow:
1) Tap the "☰" icon in the upper left-hand corner of the app.2) Tap "Transfer to Bank" from the available options.
3) Enter the amount you would like to transfer.
4) Tap the current destination (which is likely a card) and select your bank account.
5) Tap "Next".
6) Tap "Confirm Transfer".

Well I don't have a bank account and that's why I downloaded the Venmo app and order the card because I had been told that it was very simple, convenient, and fast. I called Venmo and went thru about eight different representatives that couldn't help me. They blamed it on their internal security system and said no one in the company could override their system in order for me to get my money. They even told me that we couldn't get the money back to my son (the sender) so that he could send it to me another way. They just had no solutions, no manager or supervisor that we could talk to in order to resolve this issue.
They basically told me to let the card and account rest, not to do anything with it for they couldn't tell me how long before they would release my money. I ended up sending the money back to my son and he sent it to me thru MoneyGram. My whole experience with this company was complete bs and I will never use them again or recommend them to anyone.
Oh they said that their system threw up a red flag for suspicious activity when all I did was try to use the card for a normal purchase and also try to get cash from an ATM. I believe these people are thieves and I will pass that information to anyone that I can in order to discourage them from trying to use them. They told me I didn't do anything wrong. No security issues with my account at all however I couldn't get my money and it was a cash to cash transaction so the funds should have been available immediately and it showed in the app that my money was there and available but I couldn't retrieve it nor pay my bills with the card and they couldn't tell me when I would be able to get my money. Now they are telling my son it could take 7-10 days before he could get his money back. Venmo is a scam and they are lining their pockets with our money people. Someone transferred $20 from me - not authorized and the fraud user had signed up that week. I didn’t get any notification except through email (that I don’t check daily). By the time I realized what had happened, the $20 was out of my linked bank account. I reported the fraud to Venmo at which they “reviewed” the account.
The fraud user name was then changed during the review (not suspicious at all!) and the fraud user feed had several other reports of fraud by other users to the listed transactions in the fraud user feed. Seemed like a no brainer for Venmo to see my little $20 was also fraud by this user. But NO! Venmo came back declining the claim. I rebutted with all the details of sign in (from Brooklyn- I’m in NJ), password change and $ transfer minutes later in a minute by minute timeline and provided my DL for identity verification. Venmo once again denied the fraud/hack and deactivated MY account for reasons they won’t disclose or give away their “protection methods for following user activity”. Now I’m the criminal apparently! I love this app for my lawn care business to receive payments when people are not home to pay. It faster and easier than receiving a check and with the new Venmo card I do not even have to transfer my Venmo balance to my bank to spend it. I can just use the Venmo card anywhere MasterCard is accepted and it deducts the purchase straight from my Venmo balance. The only thing that I think would bother some people is the social aspect of the default settings allowing everyone to see who you have paid and who has paid you, but this can easily be turned off in the privacy settings if you don't want this information public.
Though among friends to pay back for dinner or drinks it is kind of fun. Super great app. I don't understand the bad reviews at all. People just must not understand how to use it. Fast, free, easy, and fun. It is affiliated with PayPal and I trust that. Have not had a single issue myself. Hope some less grumpy people leave reviews instead of just a bunch of grumpy curmudgeons.

I somehow accidentally paid my cat sitter $2100 instead of $21 and could not cancel the transaction. She was afraid to send it back so she transferred it to her bank account and therefore Venmo could not reverse the transaction. It’s a one day in between each transaction for the banks so she cannot withdraw the money until it is in her account. In the meantime I am racking up overdraft fees for something that should take two seconds to transfer back-and-forth. Venmo needs to have a cancel transaction button. I’m deleting the app and never using it again. In addition through my research I found that Venmo is not FDIC insured So if you’re working with large amounts or make a mistake like I did your money is not guaranteed.

The stories that you read are TRUE! I received money on my cash app from a friend and transferred it to my Venmo since I had that card readily available. I attempted to get gas after work and the card declined even though funds were available. I changed my pin and attempted to try again but failed... I instantly withdrew my funds from my Venmo all to figure out it would never arrive. I called Venmo and they attempted to shift blame on my bank. They had no idea why it declined but stated “security reasons” ... like wtf. They also tried to get me off to the phone because they knew I wouldn’t see my money and they knew they were closing. I tried online chats and everything and all they can say is “call your bank”.
Note Venmo gave me 2 issues within minutes of each other but I’m the one that has my call my bank??? Wow. I told them I would complain because that’s really sad that they just steal money! I demanded my trans fee back and they put it into the very account that I tried to get money from before that I was clearly STILL waiting on. It’s very sad that I can’t access my own funds. Customer service was nice but not helpful. They could only say it was the random security program denying me access to my $1900+ dollars!! "Sorry we can't help you. It is the security program." 3 times in a row is NOT RANDOM. IT IS CARD SPECIFIC!! And the "account specialists" would be the only ones able to help but they don't take calls... only emails!! Ridiculous!! We live in a day & age where you press a button and it is fixed!! So I was told, "At least your card is working at stores and your money is safe." Safe?? Really? From Me??
Today Day 2 was the icing on the cake. My account was frozen!!! I wake up to an email needing g my ID picture emailed to Account Security. Now the chip that worked yesterday in stores NOT ATM's is FROZEN!!! I was told to email my ID to these Magical Account specialists that have no help center... the that customer service can't even contact to try to help you... I picture them locked in a room and you have to know the special knock to speak to them!! Then in 2 to 3 days I should have my account UNFROZEN!!! 2 TO 3 DAYS!!! BUSINESS DAYS ON A ** THURSDAY??? Traveling with no gas, no food, and a worthless piece of Pink plastic!!! AND VENMO HAS ALL MY MONEY????
I have used PayPal business for YEARS!!! YEARS!! I expected MUCH BETTER!!! This is a horrible way to treat someone... leaving them stranded!! And to be told by customer service that they are sorry and feel bad but there is nothing they can do??? A company that provides a department with nothing to help customers??? I only recently decided to use Venmo because I was asked if I would take payments through Venmo. I encouraged friends and family to sign up... I am furious!! And embarrassed I told others to use your services and TRUST YOU!! This has left me stranded without money for 3 business days. It is Thursday!! So if I am lucky, Monday. 5 DAYS FROM NOW in the order the Secret Account Specialists received my email. I can transfer my money and NEVER USE THIS HORRIBLE APP AGAIN.
Please keep in mind this is not a bank... It is an app. And your money is SAFE in a bank and not held hostage to a company that has a security program that decides when and where you can use your money.... I used Venmo to transfer $400 to the parents of my son’s friend in order for them to purchase his plane ticket at the same time they purchased theirs so that they could all sit together on the flight. This was for a Spring Break vacation to visit Havana. Venmo flagged my money transfer because the word “Havana” was used in the memo section. The entirety of my memo stated, “[my son’s name] - Havana - Spring Break”. Seems pretty self-explanatory to me. This was a domestic money transfer and last time I checked, it’s 100% legal to vacation in Havana. Not only was I met with the rudest customer service rep via phone, but I was told that I am strictly limited to email correspondence involving flagged matters.
Fast forward, I’m now on day 4 corresponding via email. There has been a different rep responding to each email and I am told that my money will not be released until I answer the 5 questions listed in the initial email response. These are the questions that Venmo needs to know in order to release MY MONEY: 1. Purpose of Travel. 2. A copy of your flight itinerary. 3. Your dates of travel to Cuba; and 4. The OFAC general or specific license authorizing the travel.
I have responded explaining to them that I do not have flight itinerary because THEY are holding my money that was to be used to purchase said flight! I also explained that my son does not have a passport because we needed to book this flight in order to be eligible for an expedited passport!!! Keep in mind, this trip is currently 3 weeks out! It was a last minute opportunity for him that has now turned into the biggest fiasco! I scheduled my passport appointment 2 weeks in advance and must have flight itinerary in order to qualify for a 10 day expedite! If I had an extra $400 laying around then maybe this wouldn’t be such a huge ordeal, but I don’t!
I’m on day 2 with zero email response to my last reply. I have sent follow up emails to check-in and still nothing! I am SO upset. This is absolutely dead wrong! The lady on the phone tried to tell me that Venmo is a Federal banking agency and they take these matters seriously. Oh really? Well if my bank suspects fraud or anything of the such, I have a department I can call to have this type of thing sorted out immediately! Venmo is holding my money hostage all the while collecting interest while I’m left completely effed.
I have a huge issue with the information they are requesting as well. I’m not going through customs! I’m transferring a measly 400 to my neighbor for a spring break vacation that doesn’t concern anybody! What are they, the FBI? I will never be using Venmo again. And from what I have read on this forum, people wait up to at least a month for these matters to be resolved. There needs to be a class action suit against Venmo!

So since it was on the weekend I use their chat with us option and end up having to talk to 3 people. As the centuries-old Latin adage says, Caveat Emptor. Let the buyer beware. DO NOT USE VENMO, EVER. Ever. Stand on the shoulders of my mistake and don't even get involved with them. SAVE YOURSELF the time, money, and aggravation. This company, and their service (if it can even be called that), is so riddled with problems that I can scarcely begin to fit them into this review. There are actually a ton of red flags that Venmo is doing shady business or, for one reason or another, trying to pull the rug out from under the very customers they claim to serve.
But instead of typing here an exhaustive list of all the hurdles I've been through with them (and to be clear, I STILL have not gotten my money, which was payment for editing a book prior to publishing), I'll just describe the main one to you: VENMO REQUIRES THAT YOU EMAIL THEM A COPY OF YOUR PHOTO I.D. BEFORE THEY WILL EVEN <> YOUR ACCOUNT, ISSUE, OR PROBLEM. Yes, you read that correctly. Unless you take a digital picture of your driver's license or passport and email it to them, they refuse to discuss anything about your issue with you...even if that issue is, you've been paid using Venmo and you can't seem to get your money.
I am not one for conspiracy theories. But THIS — this, my friends — is one of the shadiest things I've ever encountered in business. Why the ** would they EVER need your photo ID. Think about it: if this was standard protocol for lots of reputable companies out there, that would be one thing. Say, for instance, Apple, Microsoft, Cox, Google, Amazon, etc etc etc. But it ISN'T!!! Never in my life, even dealing with tech startups and all kinds of different companies in New York City, have I ever been asked over the phone in customer support to send them a copy of my photo ID. This is a seriously suspicious practice, especially with the rise of facial recognition software out there.
The lady on the phone with me at Venmo kept insisting, redundantly, that it was to "verify" my "email address" and that the name I'm giving her "over the phone is in fact the name on the account." But as you, reader, probably know, they can absolutely achieve that verification through other avenues. Namely, emailing me some kind of arbitrary code, say, six digits, and then when I open up my email, simply having me READ that verbally over the phone to her. There is unquestionably no reason that Venmo needs my photo ID, nor does it assist them in verifying ANYTHING about my account. Note that your ID isn't required to sign UP for Venmo, so why should it be required to get your money??? Beware. Truly.

I purchased something via Venmo and the seller sold it to someone else, saying Venmo never moved the money to her account. When I tried to address it with Venmo, they read protocol off a script and refused to confirm or deny that the funds were received by the seller. There was no denial that they pulled my money from my account. They said that the only way that the transaction could be reversed was by the seller, who can't reverse it because her account says it never went through.
When I informed them that I would have to file a complaint with my credit card to contest the charge, they threatened that even if the Credit Card company reversed the payment, Venmo would hold me responsible and report it adversely on my credit record. They said I should have read the infinitely long tiny print agreement. BUYER BEWARE!!!

I normally use ApplePay for any money transfers I would make to friends and family. However, in a recent transaction I downloaded the Venmo app due to money being sent to me from a friend who uses the app. After a fairly painless registration and having to enter a personal credit card for any transactions that I do not have enough Venmo funds for. This quickly turned into a nightmare.
The drama started the first week of February when my friend sent me money through the Venmo app. I received the money in my account immediately and thought, wow, that was easy. Well, then it got interesting. You have two options in using your funds. 1) You can transfer the amount directly into your bank account after giving bank account information or 2) Use a retail site that accepts Venmo. I did not want my bank information to be revealed and thought it was the best and safest decision. So, started to research what retailers I could visit in person to use my funds. Come to find out that you are either extremely limited or cannot use the funds to pay for a service or product in person. Ok, so now what? I looked further and found out I could use the funds through the Venmo app with a retailer that Venmo has partnered with.
I didn’t find any retailers that I would use myself, but did find Urban Outfitters to purchase for my kids. So, I proceeded to make an online purchase giving me the option to pay using my Venmo funds. Again, you have to go through the Venmo app to find these retailers whom you can purchase with using your Venmo funds. I made it all the way through the transaction, paid using my Venmo funds and thought that was it. To my surprise, I received a prompt telling me that I encountered a problem. Thought that was weird as I did everything correctly. I didn’t receive any confirmation of my purchase with Urban Outfitters so I called their customer service line. They were very helpful and I was informed that there were no pending transactions.
I was a little disappointed as the purchase was for clothing to gift one of my kids for their birthday. I then went back to my Venmo app and noticed that there was a pending charge to be sent to Urban Outfitters. This was strange as UO just told me that there were no completed or pending transactions. I thought, maybe it takes a day or two so I patiently waited for my Venmo account to be updated with no pending transactions since UO already informed me that they did not have an order for me.
After using my patience I decided to contact them using their online chat option through their app. I was told that a $ amount was pending and going to be deducted from my personal credit card due to not having enough money to cover the entire transaction amount...what?! Granted I did not have enough to cover the entire amount, but was only about $17 over. So, my thought was that the funds from my Venmo account would be used first to pay for my so called transaction and then $ that I go over would be charged to my credit card. Wouldn’t that make sense? Apparently this was not the case.
Basically you have to make a transaction for exactly the amount you have in the Venmo acct or go under, leaving some funds remaining in your acct. It would be a never ending attempt to try and use up what I have in my Venmo acct. So frustrating. At that point I decided to transfer the funds to my bank acct. Something I did not want to do due to security reasons, but at this point I was really fed up.
It took a few business days for the money to appear in my bank. Once received I quickly deleted my bank account information and personal credit card info from the Venmo app. I tried to then close my Venmo acct, but was told that I still had a pending transaction. Yes, this was the transaction that never went through to UO, yet Venmo still had it as a pending transaction. I was told that this transaction could take 12 full calendar days to finalize or void and that I should be cleared to close my account next week. What a stressful experience. Note to self...do not EVER use Venmo again. My experience may be out of the norm and others may be extremely satisfied with their experience. This was just what I am going through and thought it would be helpful to others.

I was sent $160 to pay some bills and I had to wait on the card to arrive to access my money and once the card finally arrived I went to activate it on the app and it told me to deposit money into the Venmo account to be able to use the card. I refused because I had $160 already in Venmo Balance. Then On a Friday after the office is closed I get an email stating my account is frozen. So I had to upload a picture of my ID but had to wait until Monday when they are open again.
Then when Monday gets here I call to see what is the issue and I didn't get an answer except it was escalated and I will hear back from them 2-3 business days. I tried to talk to the department that handles frozen accounts but the only way is through email which I've emailed them 7 times and still no reply. My father is 83 and has had a bank account with a credit union for some years. He does not have a debit card for this account because this CU says he is not credit worthy since his wife left him and messed up his credit..now he cannot open another bank account because of that mess..that is a whole different story in itself. Anyway, The nearest branch of this CU is over 4 hours away, they do not have this CU in our state and makes it difficult to get any money at all. So we opened up a Venmo account for him and my husband and myself. After a few days, we were able to verify his checking account. He sent my husband money, so he could have some cash and also to get his personal stuff and so on.
Well, the money went through, though it took 4 days. Then, he sent money again, this time so we could try and get him a prepaid card so we would not have to deal with a middle man... well Venmo decided to Freeze my husbands account. No explanation at all, just froze it. They asked for a copy of his ID, sent it. 36 hours later, they asked for his bank statements... no reason why. Sent that. Then another 48 hours later, they said it was not good enough because they wanted PROOF that my husbands debit was his saying they needed to SEE PURCHASES WITH THE DEBIT CARD... made no sense. So we sent another copy of the bank statement, no word yet, but my husband's account has a temporary freeze on it and they said they cannot delete it.
In the meantime, Venmo decided to PERMANENTLY DEACTIVATE my dad's account. So we call, no reasons were given. I mean NO REASON. Talk to a specialist they said. We called and called and still no one will tell us WHY. We emailed 15 times.....yes 15. Still no answer as to WHY. My dad has a little over $700 in his Venmo account. Now we cannot even send it back to his CU because the account has been permanently deactivated... But this morning, BAILEY said... "Your funds in your account are being held for review which can take up to 180 days. IF we DEEM the funds suitable for release, we will contact you with the next steps."
SERIOUSLY??? IF they deem suitable? WTF does that mean? Next steps? He is 83 years old... Lord forbid if something happens to him in the next 6 months. Then what? They took a few days to transfer the money and now they are not going to give it back??? First it may take 6 months and then it's up to them to give BACK my dads money? How is this even legal? I am calling an attorney today. I am so angry. I honestly do not know how they are getting away with this... This company needs to be shut down.

I have had the same savings account for 20 years, and it is the only account I have ever needed. My credit card stems from this account and has obviously worked great for 2 decades. Not only was connecting the account difficult since I wasn't with one of their pre-determined banks of choice, but my account was marked "invalid" after Venmo authorized a payment that pulled directly from my account rather than the amount I had placed on my Venmo balance. My bank allows a certain number of pulls from the account each month, and I had plenty of money on my balance for the meal I was Venmoing for. But for some reason it pulled from the account rather than that balance. Not only did this cause frustration dealing with my bank, but once it invalidated my account, customer service refused to help re-validate it.
I was transferred to multiple departments, and finally to a supervisor. The supervisor made it clear they *could* re-validate accounts, and yet refused to respond as to why it did not pull from my balance and refused to re-validate the account. It was a completely asinine conversation and a waste of multiple hours of my time. I repeat, Do Not Use Venmo. It's a terrible service and I refuse to be treated this way as a customer.

I pay or get paid by the same people each month. To pay my gardener, for example, I have to search for him each time and since his "identity" is a number attached to his name Venmo assigned and not identified by his phone number or email, I always have to find my notation of his "identity." One would think it would be possible to click on a link in our history of transactions to make repeat payments. The issue I always have with Venmo is identifying the right person to pay. Older people often don't add a photo and if they do, the small photo on Venmo isn't always clear. So I have to text my friend to ask his/her Venmo identity. Having said this, I always find the transfer of funds quite quick, but "Who ya gonna call if a transaction goes haywire?" I plan to get my gardener and others set up on Zelle. At least, that payment system is associated with a brick and mortar bank where there is recourse if payments are transferred incorrectly.

It's happened to us all. Phone in pocket, phone unlocks, phone buttons mash themselves and take you on a magical, unknown at the time, super crazy and sometimes improbable ride to wherever chance prefers to go. There are 3 ways to correct any issues therein, an apology, a call, or a cancel button push. Chances are these 3 solutions will correct any and all aspects of this cellular phone phenomenon because all phones are designed this way and 99.999999% is simply just how it works. This is not the category of Venmo as per design it would seem after review of any search engines pull up with any combination of the words "issues", "theft", "missing money", or "problems with" and the word "Venmo".
My story (all of my tale of events are backed up with daily account screenshots of both Venmo and bank accounts) is this in simple form; Phone in pocket while working, phone does phone acid and starts to trip out pressing random buttons, feel phone vibrate, phone opened Venmo on 01/08/2019, a request transfer of $110.00 from my bank account to my Venmo account via Venmo app. No cancel requests button, no ability to cancel with calling reps of Venmo as per what they convey as excuses, no help with emailing Venmo or chatting on their website with them as no one ever responds aside of auto responses of excuses for no human assistance, bank account shows pending withdraw.
Call to Venmo suggest one and only solution "wait for withdraw to finalize out bank" which then will be available instantly on Venmo account then and instantly deposit back into bank account before the next day's daily cycle of updating acccount information, (just to be clear, their idea to rectify situation is to now stay on guard and do the work for them that they ought be doing seeings how I pay them money for a service, a service that otherwise my bank I know have learned would transfer for free, all though not with the ease I pay transfer percentages to some apps), sometime between 01/10/2019 and 01/11/2019 the bank finalizes transfer (btw $35 stop payment fee with bank of which I only have a poor person balance of about $85.00 with no income expected within the next 10-14 days and rent already 3 weeks late due to lack of work at job, crappy after holiday hours).
I awake to overdraft bank account and OD fee meaning Venmo received full $110.00, it's now 01/13/2019 and my Venmo account still reads $0.00 balance, I've still received no help or returns or OD fee repayments from Venmo. They are completely avoiding me, refusing to answer emails with anything other than an automated questionnaire to rate Venmo's service in regards to finding a solution to my query??? Venmo are you serious???
Venmo's service has caused a string of horrible events for me because if this. Bank account cut off. Work for out of town peoples who paid me through cash apps that instantly deposit funds to my account that doesn't exist anymore, can't open another account cause checks system denies me with all banks. $58 balance of OD and OD fees is all I owe bank, but I have no cash cause clients prefer paper trail as per IRS paperwork. Tomorow I'm evicted for nonpayment of rent even though I luckily in a sense have all money on app I cannot withdraw. Haven't eaten in about 2 1/2 almost 3 days now aside 1 banana and 1/2 candy bar (no family left financially able to assist).
This is how a series of events can play out when trust is instilled into a company along with payment for services and only trust shown was when I did as I was instructed and repeated service fees have been subtracted from my funds. Since it would seem it's ok for you to service charge me 1% to get my own money in an instant because you have to do whatever it is you do to get the funds. To me, it would seem only fair that be able to charge you for making my life this all around completely and utterly scattered in disarray, emotionally distressed, all while financially destitute, and all while losing most belongings due now being shelter deprived.
This is how Venmo seemingly based on actions shows appreciation to those who provide a percentage based income per every transaction made as payment for service, And all done for Venmo to never return anything remotely helpful. ** if someone could help me out with a solution a person in my shoes could do? (Or a way to make life a bit better for a South Mississippi local to not add to the homeless factor of my area which is great in quantity and low on solutions.) This is a very scary path I've been set on. Hey Venmo = idea for app update, pending transaction cancel button, great idea, literally would not cost a thing financially to the business. And would subtract client and company headaches from the equation.

When I transferred $625 from Venmo to my bank account, I didn't realize that it didn't go into my current bank account (which could never be successfully verified, as it turns out), rather into a bank account that was closed years ago. (It turns out I used Venmo many years ago, before my divorce.) My bank has no record of any attempt to transfer funds into the closed account. Venmo says that the money is gone. When we log in to our Venmo account, we only see the transactions of the money we have shared with other people. We never see the history of the transactions that would go between our Venmo account and our Bank account. We never know how many transfers we had from our Venmo account to our bank account. Today, for example, I was so lucky to accidentally find out that I transferred $400 from my Venmo to my Bank Account on the 4th of this month, and it's not there in my bank account!!! Venmo leaves no tracking history to these outgoing transactions. I'm not even able to see what date I made that transaction. Everything is concealed and the clients may not even remember that they transferred these funds, especially when they transfer too many transactions. So, if Venmo fails to transfer the funds to your bank account, just like they did with me, you will never notice.
This is a very risky and shady design. Venmo needs to be transparent with their clients and give them access to their out of Venmo transactions, much like what PayPal does. PayPal is very transparent. They never surreptitiously failed to transfer money. Everything is accounted for in PayPal. Now, where is the $400 that I tried to transfer to my bank account on the fourth? (I can't even remember the date because Venmo conceals all these out of Venmo transactions?!!). Venmo needs to be transparent and accountable for everything. Where is the $400? I transferred one $400 and I see that it hit my bank account on the third, but then I transferred another $400 the other day. Where is it?
The only way I have to find out about the out of Venmo transactions is to go to my bank account and see if funds have arrived. Too complicated. There's no chart for the outgoing transactions from Venmo to your bank account. Too shady. The only reason I use Venmo service is that all my clients want to use Venmo. I'm trying to persuade them to use PayPal. I will teach them how to use it. In my case, there's a limit on how much I can transfer to my bank account. With PayPal, there's no limit. I don't understand why my clients even use your service despite all these restrictions and shortenings. Now, where is my $400?
