My stepmother had 3 online savings accounts. When she passed, I notified and followed the instructions for her beneficiaries. Discover and Everbank processed the claims pretty fast, within 6 weeks of contact. Synchrony Relations was really behind. We are 10 weeks into this and the check still hasn't materialized. I called again today, after following their final instructions and faxing 20 days ago. Believe it or not, they processed it yesterday and put it in the mail today. That's right, the check is in the mail. It's been 27 days since the other two online accounts delivered the $$. Now I get to wait up to 12 more days for the check to arrive.

From the start (when the customer relations person said they didn't need any information on the death of my stepmother, but of course they really did and I had to call them back two weeks later to get it started...again) they have been a disappointment. It's too bad this kind of review can't get to heads of this department, as they are the ones who need to change their policies. Final insult...they promised me a chance to review at the end of my conversation today, but, of course, they hung up on me instead even though I waited on the line as instructed.

If you have your payments on auto-pay and you do deferred interest, be very careful and monitor each statement. I fell for the trap and didn't notice my auto-payments were being lowered over time so I had a balance at the end of the promotional period. Long story short, my balance exploded and ended being more than what I started with because they retroactively charged all the interest and then started adding in interest month by month on top of that. I was thinking the card was almost paid off until I looked at it. I am taking great joy in closing all my Synchrony accounts, especially the one I use almost on a daily basis. My credit score is well in the 800s and the hit from the closed accounts won't affect a thing. I will NEVER use a card or credit that's owned by this company again. It is comforting reading the reviews and see that I'm not the only one that fell for this as I felt so foolish for allowing this to happen. Most definitely a lesson learned.

A most horrific experience. Emergency travel occurred to death of a family member. Sam's Club mastercard denied with out-of-state use. Fraud department notified that charge was authorized. I received an acknowledgement that the issue was resolved. However, the issue got worse. The use of the card was denied for all users, even those not traveled from the home location. I went through the verification process with facial recognition and ID verification, only to receive a notice that a letter would be sent in 7-10 days.

As a member of Sam's club since 1988 and payment of balances on the Mastercard each month in full, access remained denied. I called three times, repeated the verification process, but not Code number issued. The agents response in the follow up calls became more dismissive. For me, this was a horrible, insensitive, devaluating process where I and my family members on the card were victims of process rather than recipients of assistance in time of need.

Credit is extended by Synchrony Bank, which is located at 170 Election Road, Suite 125, Draper, UT

To whom it may concern, please reconsider before opening a new PayPal Credit account with #synchrony @synchronybank if you value time, sanity & fico. The experience with Synchrony Bank PayPal Credit has easily been the worst from a objective point of view. This bank arbitrarily lowered the line of credit multiple times, although the credit account was in good standing to that point. This didn't end the world, just a bit of wasted time after multiple occurrences.

The credit line was dropped while PayPal subsequently chose to charge the incorrect account, at the wrong bank. This is when PayPal was not set to use that bank account by default, and was never selected to be used. In fact, the PayPal Credit account was previously paid with a 20+ year old bank account which was predominately used for the PayPal Credit account in question.

Due to this glitch that appears to have been on the side of Synchrony and/or PayPal, the bank then applied a "return charge fee" for this systematic error. To be clear, I never chose the account that was selected when attempting to pay the PayPal Credit account. This whole process then repeated again only one week later, and that secondary "return charge fee" was also refunded in "the name of good customer service". Now this is more of an insult, or a joke.

Synchrony subsequently closed the PayPal Credit account entirely, after the line of credit was lowered, and stated this was due to the "return charge fee", which both had been refunded. Synchrony advised contacting PayPal to get them to furnish some form of proof, in which PayPal refused to provide. Mind you, this is because I had no say in which account was charged in these two occasions and the customer support was less than helpful.

Further, I've had multiple accounts with Synchrony, among many other groups and none of which have ever had such an issue before. This includes a PayPal Mastercard, also provided by the same Synchrony Bank which is still in good standing today. Synchrony & PayPal both point the finger at the other while neither offer any real assistance. Well I'm now offering you the **. Thanks.

Update: Just had an online chat with Judy ** who refused to help with my issue. The card has me owing $500 which I never incurred at any establishment. She refused to provide the name of any vendor where I would have had such an expense. She also refused to remove the charge and rectify their report with the Credit Bureau to which they erroneously reported a delinquency. Next, she refused to look up the fraud report I filed on their form and to which I circled the erroneous charges including one where the vendor was not in business at the time CareCredit says the charge was incurred. The company is morally corrupt and does not care about anything except extorting any amount of money from anyone who will pay regardless of whether it is a valid debt.

CareCredit, who is owned by Synchrony Bank, this has been the worst credit card experience I have ever had. First, I have always paid off all my credit cards before any interest accrues. Before dealing with them, my FICO score was above 800. Second, they are claiming I have a $500.00 balance, which is false. There has never been a $500 charge at any establishment. Further, they opened multiple accounts and cards in my name with different account numbers, apparently in an attempt to generate a false balance/charge and cause confusion. Last, their phone reps cannot answer any questions or give a straight answer. Each rep gives a different answer to the same question. Clueless!!!!

Synchrony took over managing Lowe's Pros credit accounts. I have been a Lowes customer in good standing longer than Synchrony exists. A while back I received a suspicious request form supposedly from Synchrony, requesting my SSN. But the form had NO official Synchrony letterhead, NO official name for contact or verification, NO return envelope and an anonymous phone number to call for "service". Seemed like scammers phishing, to me. Especially since I've been a Lowes credit holder for many DECADES, who I am sure, has had my SSN on record. So I ignored this creepy request. Two weeks ago they locked my account, insisting they need my SSN. I capitulated, sent the requested information PRIORITY mail. It was delivered 5/1. A week later the account is still locked and I am unable to even log in to PAY MY BILL, due the 13th.

This seems conveniently designed to trap me into getting a late fee and service charges being applied to my account. I called Customer service - transferred to 3 different human operators, after finally getting past the bots (which took over 15 minutes), each representative apologized for the long wait, explaining they were really "slammed" (Gee, I wonder why) and was put on hold again waiting for the "next available", and then after 20 more minutes of music, my call was dropped. So much for customer service: extremely time consuming, issue still unresolved. I don't hold Lowes responsible for this mess, Synchrony operations seem predatory, unprofessional and not at all customer oriented. If they need more account holder personal information, maybe they should include the request in with the Lowes statement. Where's a Menards when you need one?

I wish we could apply zero stars to this. Unbelievable hidden fees that I did not sign up for when applying for credit for an emergency vet hospital visit. They make it very confusing as to what you’re signing up for but I know that I did not sign up for extra fees for care credit card protection, this would be useless to me but somehow after 13 months of diligently paying off my loan for the vet bill (extremely high for what they didn’t do at this vet hospital) each month and making it almost impossible to access the billing statements and charges, I had to call three times a customer service agent to help me with these. What’s more, this bank does not credit your payment on the day or even the next day of payment, so this bank cleverly does this in order to incur incredibly high late fees. This practice is extremely deceptive and wrong, along with adding extra services that I did not sign up for.

I will never understand the level of greed these banks have and especially on vulnerable people that are having financial problems in the first place, which is why we sign up for these payment plans! Shame on this bank for doing this to folks when they’re obviously having a hard time making financial emergencies payments and just making ends meet. Taking money and cleverly deceptive practices of adding more fees for useless means, such as “credit card security fee” each and every month, adds up to thousands of extra dollars on a $1,300 payment plan for over 13 months, is robbing from the lower income consumers at desperate times in their lives. Shame on Synchrony Bank!

Horrible bank. I had used Care Credit to pay for dental work and vet bills. Was on automatic payment for 12 months. Suddenly I had not only my monthly payment, but also the balance of my entire dental procedure taken out of my account which caused a negative bank balance. Attempted to use the chat service but that was useless. Spent 30 minutes on hold waiting for a representative who merely apologized for the mistake after putting me on hold for another 20 minutes. Best she could offer was a refund check which wouldn't arrive for 7 days. The payment was still pending but she couldn't be bothered. I know from past experience the transaction could have been halted, but obviously this bank doesn't care enough about their customers. Once I have paid my debt off with them I will close my account. Horrible company.

If I could leave zero stars, I would. This bank uses predatory tactics—stay away! When I bought a mattress, the store told me I had 3 years to pay it off. You would think the "Minimum Payment" on your statement would be enough to pay it off in time, but it’s not. Synchrony sets the minimum payment much lower than what you actually need to pay to clear the balance. They don't remind you when the 3 years are up, and then "Voilà"—they hit you with 34.99% interest on the original full amount. I ended up with thousands of dollars in interest added to my balance overnight. They are feeding off people who think they are on a fair payment plan. Stay far away from them!

Very poor customer service!! Once a statement is received by a customer, the balance due is non-negotiable. No adjustment will be made to the balance, although customer service will take the interest off the account. Note: the account balance and THE balance are NOT the same thing. Any adjustment to the account balance is not reflected in the balance due. Word of warning: adjustments on your account are NOT reflected in your minimum payment due and can actually create higher minimum payments in the future.

I purchased furniture from a particular store. (Rooms to Go) This company usually deals with Synchrony Bank and I have had multiple problems with payments twice from Synchrony, once last year as they charged me a late fee because I paid to early. Instead of paying on your due date or before your due date, they will charge you a "late fee". Last year they did refund my late fee. Well this year the same thing happened. I paid 3 days early and they charged me a late fee of $30.00. I had forgotten they charged me a late fee for paying early. I don't quite understand how this is "legal". I've never ever had any problems or history of late fees. I finally asked to speak to a supervisor and oh.. she didn't help. I asked her if she felt it was fair charging me a late fee as I had made the payment prior to the 7th of February, (due date) I had made it on the 2nd or 3rd. She states "that's just how the company works".

Well I just want to warn people. Do not make your payments prior to your due date otherwise you will be charged a late fee. This cannot possibly be legal and it isn't fair. Where is the $30 going? Not helping me any. It goes to Synchrony Bank. In my opinion what an awesome scam they have going!! Lastly, the employee mentioned to me, they are only allowed to refund you once a year. So in otherwards if they screw up twice within a year-they are not going to assume the responsibility. She actually told me since I was refunded last year due to the same mistake therefore this was why I could not be refunded the late fee. Neither time was I late, it was because I paid to early so they count it as late when one pays to early. So when I mention the word scam? It's no joke!! What an easy way to collect money from people.

Synchrony Bank is slow to post mailed payments for credit card accounts. An account for a retail store chain and one for a television shopping network, QVC, typically take 10 to 14 days to post mailed payments using the Synchrony Bank mailing coupon and envelope. Amazingly, late fees and interest charges are posted to the account with lighting speed. Calls to Synchrony Bank Customer Service are answered by rude and unhelpful representatives. Synchrony Bank is likely using these tactics to force customers to use electronic payments which cost less to process. If you have credit card accounts with Synchrony Bank, mail your payments as soon as you receive your statements or you will receive charges if the payment is postmarked 7 days or less from the due date. Better yet, when you have alternative choices, choose a different bank card than those offered by Synchrony Bank.

Have had a credit card with Synchrony Bank for two years, started with a credit line of $1800, by making a purchase at Dicks Sporting Goods. Because I travel and I place expenses on my credit card and pay most if not all off within two months. About 7 months ago I had a balance of $920, from a prior month travel. For no reason at all my credit limit was dropped to $920. Needless to say I was not pleased and decided that this was a credit card that I could no longer depend on for use - for the record I ran about 6k through this card paying off over a month or two each time never hitting the limit and never late. Again no I could not depend on the card I used only for a monthly subscription of $9.75 a month.

Today I received an email that my account is closed. The email explained that I did not own real estate (because it is paid for), and a balance on another card was to high - just completed travel and used that card. Again never paid late, never over the limit, no warning just closed. Interesting is that I have another of Synchrony cards that is associated with another retail firm. That card is still active however, I will never use going forward and has a 0 balance. Given my experience with Synchrony credit card, I would not recommend their cards. I am blessed that I am not dependent on this card, my heart goes out to the people that are dependent on a credit card that reduces credit and closes an account at the drop of a hat with no reason.
