I made a final payment on June 10, 2025, to completely pay off and close my CareCredit account with Synchrony Bank, the representative confirmed my account would be paid in full and closed. Weeks later, I received a new charge of $156.74. When I called for clarification, a representative named Sandra was rude and dismissive, telling me that interest would continue even after the account was closed — which makes absolutely no sense and contradicts what I was told when I made my final payment.

I paid the $156.74 under protest, but this experience has been extremely frustrating and unfair. It feels like predatory lending, keeping customers in unnecessary debt even after full payment. Because of this situation. I strongly caution others to think twice before using CareCredit or Synchrony Bank. They do not communicate clearly, they mishandle accounts, and they treat loyal customers with disrespect.

I spent over three hours dealing with Synchrony Bank’s customer service in the store after speaking with one rep at home. It was by far one of the worst experiences I’ve had. I was approved for a Lowe’s loan and was even given a loan number by one of their customer service reps to bring to Lowe’s to complete my purchase. When I arrived at the store, I found out it wouldn’t work.

From there, I was bounced between three different customer service reps, none of whom could help me. Each time, I had to provide all my personal information again Social Security number, photo ID, facial recognition, and even voice recognition just to start the same conversation over. They then ran my credit a second time, which dinged my score and reduced my approval amount. The representatives were difficult to understand, had terrible attitudes, and provided no accountability or resolution. At this point, I honestly hope this is a legitimate company and that no fraud appears on my credit report after giving them so much sensitive information. I also hope they close this account after the 30 days they mentioned, because I will never use Synchrony Bank again. Beware

If I could leave zero stars I would. I had a Sam’s Club Mastercard with a credit limit of 3000. I owed 400. I went to use my credit card and was denied. They dropped my credit limit down to 500. I was never late on any payments so I contacted customer service and all they could say was the company looks at your credit report monthly and they made a decision to lower my credit limit. Mind you I have a 760 credit score. When they lowered my credit limit it made my utilization high so my credit score dropped. I paid them off and discarded the card. Worse bank card ever.

I qualified for credit with three separate establishments which are unfortunately tied to Synchrony. I’ve made timely payments and yet they decreased my credit line unfairly. I view this practice as being highly unethical. I would not recommend anyone to open a line of credit with Synchrony. Additionally, I find their practice of spying on its clients to be quite appalling.

Synchrony Bank handles the PayPal credit line. They removed paper billing and forced everyone to use paperless billing. Problem is the PayPal app isn't really clear on your normal PayPal account vs the credit account. You also have an issue trying to figure out what's due when you use the "no credit for 6 months" or other offers - it's a guessing game at times if you have more than one plan active at the same time. I was getting tired of tracking it, so I decided the payoff the account.

That payment hit one day after the due date (due date was a Sunday). They added a late fee and interest. I refused to pay and contacted them to ask the fee and interest be removed. They refused to do so. My credit rating is taking a beating now because they are greedy beyond belief. Do yourself a favor and deal with a more respectful bank.

Terrible website. Can’t change my home phone number on my profile without getting a letter from them in 7 to 10 days. Had the account for years. Same number as my mobile number on my profile. Customer Service pitiful. They will lower your limit unexpectedly to a point where it causes an over limit on the account. Then gets reported to credit. Done this several times to me. Unfortunately they have a racket going with businesses. I wish though I had never used them. Stay away from them if possible.

I don't know why, it's BS. Now I am on perpetual hold with the online chat. It tries to disconnect me. I already canceled my card and paid all the legitimate transactions. They are still hounding me for $30. I'd let it go but I'm afraid they will charge 27% until it's a thousand dollars. Do not support this bank.

For six years, I maintained my JCPenney credit card through Synchrony Bank with a modest $200 limit — never a late payment, never a fee. Despite having over $14,000 in available credit across multiple cards and responsible usage, my request for a limit increase two years ago was denied without explanation.

Today, I received notice that they’ve slashed my credit line from $200 to $100. No missed payments. No delinquencies. Just a random and insulting cut — all while using vague “scoring system” excuses like:
    • “Lack of Real Estate Secured Loan Information”
    • “Too Many Revolving Accounts With High Balances Compared to Credit Limit”

    • “Too Many Inquiries”

This is predatory account management that punishes loyal customers, damages credit scores, and offers zero accountability. Synchrony Bank has a long history of sudden credit limit decreases, and this is yet another example of their crooked, consumer-hostile practices.

    My recommendation:
    • If you have a Synchrony-backed card, watch your statements like a hawk.
    • File complaints with the CFPB, FTC, and your state’s Attorney General.

    • Share your story so others don’t get blindsided.

Synchrony Bank’s business model thrives on exploiting trust. I’ve closed my account — and I’ll never do business with any retailer partnering with them again. #SynchronyBank #JCPenney #CreditScam #ConsumerAlert

If I could leave zero stars, I would. My experience with Synchrony Bank has been nothing short of a nightmare. I paid off my motorcycle loan in full, only to be told it would take 3 to 6 weeks just to process the payment—and then another month before I would receive the title. That alone is excessive. But it gets worse. Every time I called for an update, I got a completely different answer from a different person. One rep said 3–6 weeks, another said 4–8 weeks. I would hang up, call back, and get a brand-new story each time. To make things even more frustrating, I called three weeks after making my final payment to check on the status, and was told the system didn't automatically release the title—so now they would add a note to have it processed manually, which could take another 6–8 weeks. Seriously?

When I called again, explained the whole situation from scratch, I was transferred to the title department. That rep said they would go ahead and release it—great, right? Not quite. I was told to call back in two days to confirm. When I did, they informed me the title had been sent electronically to my DMV. I reminded them I live in Tennessee, which doesn’t use electronic titles. They then claimed they don’t send out paper titles at all and told me to contact the DMV myself. The lack of organization and accountability is unreal. Dealing with Synchrony Bank has been a complete disaster. I would never recommend them to anyone. Terrible customer service, inconsistent information, and absolutely no urgency to resolve simple issues. Avoid at all costs.

About a year ago Synchrony Bank allowed hackers to get into my Amazon store card, change my address (6 times) and charge thousands of dollars in items using my name and their address in Michigan (I live in NY). I kept calling and changing my address back, but it kept happening. Those hackers also managed to get into my checking account using the fraudulent business name Amazon Corp SYF which is Synchrony Financial. They made transactions totalling almost $43,000 over the course of 6 months from my checking account That was my retirement money. I believe Synchrony bank is responsible because they did not secure my account properly. If those address changes were blocked from the beginning as I requested, this would not have happened. Synchrony accepts no responsibility because they say I signed up for the card (back in 2017) so I am responsible.

My card has had a zero balance for years since I have an Amazon card through Chase and that is my preferred card to use. My credit card statements which Synchrony just sent to me in a huge envelope shows thousands and thousands of dollars in purchases over the last 6 months and all payments were made from my checking account. It would be impossible for me to order that many items being one person! Those hackers obviously are buying on.my card, paying with my money and are reselling those items making a profit. So they not only screwed me over, but Synchrony bank as well.

Synchrony bank should accept responsibility, refund the money fraudulently taken from my account, and go after those hackers and money launderers in Michigan. I have those addresses and so does Synchrony bank, but they prefer to have me suffer for it in my retirement. This issue was sent up to the corporate level, but they chose to do nothing and deny everything even though it is so blatantly obvious what happened and who was responsible. I've since read a ton of complaints against Synchrony bank and their terrible business practices. Beware of any cards issued by them.

Each time I call nothing is done and now they say I have to wait 60 to 90 days to investigate! This is the same charge and same person that charged on the same day for a large amount that they already reversed. Mia was the rep I talked to again today. She was very, very rude to me. I am the victim and am being treated like the suspect. Then Trixie was the manager I spoke to and won't give me her last name, which is questionable. I purchased an adjustable bed and was given an interest free loan. We had no problems until suddenly this summer, they decided to start to charge $2 for mailing out the bill. Unaware of the charge, I paid my normal amount. The next billing cycle I got notified I owed money. I called, was told that my late fee would be waived. The following month I was assessed another late because they charged interest on the late fee? I called and was told that would be taken care of. Calling today, I was just told that I have occurred $80 in interest because even though the fee was waived, the interest on late fees continues?

I have made every payment on time for years, but in an effort to get more money, this change in agreement was implemented in the summer. Just criminal, and the women said making every payment on time every month and for the correct amount and it being a zero-interest account doesn't mean you will not have to pay more? This is shady, I hope there is someone that monitors banks for unethical activity like this. Really disgraceful!

Since Synchrony finances the Amazon store card, I really have no choice. It has been the worst experience. It seems that customer service reps don't all get the same training. I've had chats with several reps and each will tell me that the information I was previously given was not correct. However, they can not remedy the situation even though it was of no fault of my own. Yes, that's right, their mistake is now my mistake.

Today was the worst yet. It appears that Synchrony can charge you a RECURRING late fee with interest. That's right, I have been paying interest on a LATE CHARGE fee for 6 months now. At first, the rep said it was a Non Promotional charge, then changed it, it is interest on a nonpromotional charge. After I disputed that, she admitted it was interest charged on a late fee from 6-months back (March). Apparently, Synchrony can charge a late fee with interest and you will continue to pay the interest on that fee because it never goes away or gets paid off. Does that sound like normal business practice? Not where I come from.

This happened repeatedly, making it seem as though Synchrony Bank is more focused on charging late fees than providing honest service. Synchrony has untrained people on the phones, put you on hold, no one calls back, no one answers the emails. Supervisors blame the legal department but won't let you speak to legal. They are requiring grieving people to complete and mail certified form that is unnecessary and incorrect because their own people are not trained.

It is either gross incompetence or done intentionally to keep the money as long as possible. I still have no funds in my account and all they have to do is a transfer internally. The form required was sent in twice, certified mail and they will not process this transfer. Stay far away from Synchrony Bank. They will abuse your grieving beneficiaries should you die with an account there.

Been with the bank for many years. Recently I wanted to transfer my money to Schwab which offers much more flexibility. I found out it's very difficult to take your money out!!! They limit a daily 25K and takes several days take to get your money out, but during that several days, your money is in a limbo which Synchrony uses free money. So if you have a large amount of money with them, it would take nearly ten working days to get it out. And in the meanwhile, they use money free. Most other banks will do the electronic transfer in a day or two, not 4 days! Never again.

This financial product of 0% interest they offer is what this post is about and I want to make buyers aware of the sneaky practices by Synchrony Bank. They will encourage you to set up automatic payments and to go paperless. Then the Bank will use a promotional tactic tucked away in one of the e-statements to come around a charge me over $790.26 in interest (from Dec to April on $1,770.78). NOW I AM VERY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER.... RESULTS for me, CERTAINLY will not do any future business with Synchrony Bank.

I had 4 credit cards Synchrony and when my credit score dropped under 675 they closed all my accounts so all the recurring payments that were being made stopped. Synchrony then said I wasn’t making my payments but they were not going through because of no accounts showing up so of course they blamed me for payments falling behind. BEWARE OF THIS SYNCHRONY, THEY ARE NOT RELIABLE!!!

Not happy with Synchrony Bank in the least. They deserve a -10 for not closing my account down when I told them to. My account was attached to my Sam’s Club membership. So I assumed that because I closed my account with Synchrony my Sam’s Club account was also closed so I didn’t shop at Sam’s. Then, several months later, I discover that the Synchrony representative did not shut my account down, she left it open. So all that time I had a Sam’s Club membership and the clock was ticking, && the membership was wasted. NEVER again WILL Synchrony get my business. They charge about 30% interest anyway. Go w a credit union for a credit card, my rate is ten % interest w them.

Keep away from this Bank, my wife and I have few accounts with them and we are experiencing how they are predatory, reducing credit limits to keep high ratio of utilization and have rights to charge interests , they are destroying our credit scores. Care Credit Card look interesting until you see how this bank operating with the customers. After use this card to pay a dentist procedure (around $9k) they reduce all the credit limits on the rest of my wife accounts, this make a FICO drop of almost 60 points. The way this bank operate is hurting you SCORE and making you go in default with them.

Accounts with reduced credit limit are: PayPal Credit -- From $750 to $250. Synchrony Premier Mastercard -- From $4000 to $2000. Care Credit -- Initial Limit before escalade $9200 reducing credit limit now every time we make a payment. Also, this month they report my balance twice in the month before statement (Synchrony Premier MasterCard). On my opinion SCAM and predatory. KEEP AWAY FROM SYNCHRONY BANK!

I opened an account to finance a Sleep Number bed. Sleep Number has sketchy practices, and now Synchrony is refusing to refund me what I already paid after telling me that I would get that money back. Had I known what an issue this would be, I would have never bought anything in the first place, or at the very least I would not have financed knowing Synchrony is a mess. I unfortunately also have a Care Credit open with them from a recent vet visit. I cannot wait to be done with this company.

I think they make enough money that they can send me a bill without charging. I will close my accounts with Synchrony and use a company that can afford to send me a bill at no charge.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT DO ANY BUSINESS WITH SYNCHRONY. SIMILARITIES ARE NOT COINCIDENCES!!! My husband and I have 2 accounts with Synchrony, Pep Boys and Mattress Firm. A year ago we purchased and moved to our home out of state requiring us to use the PB card for all of the travel to and from our new home. Once we moved we bought a new mattress and box-spring set from Mattress Firm. Even though we asked to be financed we were told we're required to purchase via credit application hence another credit card. Apart from those 2 cards we have 2 more credit cards one of which I had for years and never used until we moved and that was to purchase a desk, chair and mat for my office. Our credit had been pretty good, his in the mid 750's and me in the 800's. Obviously with the home and essential purchases our credits took a small hit.

Since our move, Feb. 2023, we've been focused on recovering from the use of the cards by paying off the smallest cards first while making sure we make the minimum payments on the others until we get to each. We have paid off the card for the office purchases and is set to pay off next month's balance for PB of $200+ down from nearly $1500 credit limit. Now 2 cards paid off with 2 more to go. We would begin paying off MattressF next. Further we are current on every single bill that we have.

Like all of you here we too received a letter for each acct from Synchrony. Pep Boys, March 14, 2024 decreasing our limit to $320.00 and Mattress Firm, March 22, 2024, closing our account completely. The alleged reasons given for both accts, "Not enough balance paid down on real estate, too few accts paid off, balances on accts to high compared to credit limits and loan amounts and too many delinquent or derogatory accounts." Where on earth do you get off treating customers like this? WE ARE NOT SLACKERS, WE DESERVE TO BE TREATED WITH RESPECT. I smell a class action lawsuit in the air. COUNT ME IN.

Synchrony is a monopoly that needs federal governing and investigation. Yes they have multi lines, just about anything you need, synchrony owns the consumer line. BUT THEY MANIPULATE THE CREDIT LINE TO ALLOW INCREASE OF INTEREST RATE AFTER AFFECTING CREDITING SCORES WITH THEIR MANEUVERS WHICH ALLOWS THEM TO GREATER PROFIT OFF CONSUMERS. We all would be better off to boycott and use more legitimate credit lines like Citi, JPM, Capital One… those who observe legal practices and not manipulate consumers for personal gain. Please federally investigate Synchrony. If you deal with them, watch your account closely. They will manipulate line of credit to keep utilization high, affect your credit ratings, and allow them to charge higher interest rates. It likely will occur before you are notified of any change and without reason or cause. Makes me think of loan sharks.

I had been a PayPal/Synchrony Bank cardholder for years. I made multiple payments during a month because I decided to use the card and noticed I had a $-812 available credit but a $0.00 balance on my card. When I called to ask why, they said my payments which ALREADY CLEARED MY BANK 2 WEEKS AGO, were on hold and would not post for another week for one and 2 weeks for the other. Customer service was an absolute joke when I called. I have never in my life been more insulted as a consumer. I would not recommend this to anyone. In fact I will be cancelling the other Synchrony card that I have. They do not deserve my loyalty or business.

I have never taken to the internet to write a review before, but in this case it felt like it would be an injustice not to warn others about this company. I did not open this account by free will - I purchased a piece of furniture and decided to finance it through the furniture company. This was the company they had me create an account with.

The payment plan was very simple: pay $1 for the first three months, and then around $90 for the 33 remaining months until the balance was fully paid off. It was set up with autopay, so there should have been no manual process on my end to do so. The first three months were fine. However, on the fourth month, which would have been the first month at the increased payment amount, things went south. I woke up to an email from my bank that my checking account had been overdrafted by almost $3,000. Rather than taking the amount that was agreed to in my contract, autopay deducted my entire balance. I was in no position to make this payment, especially considering I had an agreement to pay it off over three years, not four months.

I immediately called Synchrony, as well as my bank, to get the transaction overturned. It very clearly was a mistake, which I would have thought to be obvious. Luckily, my bank was very receptive to the situation, and I managed to get my money back quickly and pain-free. Synchrony also agreed to overturn the transaction, but it took almost a week for this to happen. I was given reassurance that autopay had been fixed, and that in February, it would only deduct the monthly amount that was originally agreed to. Nearly a week later, the transaction was officially undone, and I went in to pay the amount due for January that should have been taken out originally. Upon this payment, I was hit with a late fee, despite the fact that my transaction was fairly overturned.

Fast-forward one month to February, and I was feeling much more comfortable, since I had been reassured that the issue had been fixed. Unfortunately, this was not the case, as I received a second email from my bank, alerting me that the exact same thing had happened once again. Frustrated, I had to repeat the process I had just gone through a month before, and file claims with my bank, as well as Synchrony. The individual on the phone once again reassured me that autopay had been fixed, but instead I requested that they cancel autopay altogether. If the software was not capable of making the correct payment, I would manually go in and do it each month instead. Though that did not feel like a responsibility that was necessary for me to take on, I no longer had confidence that anything was actually being resolved on their end.

In addition to this, I asked the individual on the phone if my account had notifications turned off, because I had received absolutely zero communication about any transactions up to this point. I would think it is pretty standard for a bank/credit card to send you alerts about upcoming payments, statement balances, and payment confirmations. I have seen this in virtually every credit or financial institution I have ever used. Synchrony, on the other hand, did not even offer these forms of communication. This is absolutely unacceptable, particularly for an entity in this line of business. I cannot comprehend how anyone could overlook communication like that or deem it to be insignificant. Had I received any sort of communication regarding these transactions, it all may have been avoided. I learned about both of these transactions through my own bank, without hearing a word from Synchrony.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of my issues. Only a few weeks after undoing and redoing the February payment (and accruing another late fee), I received a letter in the mail from Synchrony. In this letter, they informed me that they had decided to CLOSE MY ACCOUNT because they deemed my account to be "at risk of being unable to pay." At this point, I was truly in disbelief as to how a company could operate so inefficiently and with such little regard towards their clients. In all of my years of having credit, I had not missed a single payment, exceeded my credit, or done essentially anything to present a credit risk. This was the first (and only) experience I have ever seen where there were problems. I was very nervous that this unwarranted account closing would drop my credit score, so I did the best I could to minimize any future damage.

I opened an investigation with Synchrony and requested that they review their decision. I refused to idly sit by and allow my credit to be tampered with because of problems I did not create. This investigation took over a month to conduct, and somehow, Synchrony decided NOT to overturn their decision. Luckily, I had enough saved up in cash that I immediately decided to pay off my remaining balance in one payment. Synchrony had lost absolutely any respect or trust I may have had remaining up to that point, and I deemed it to be less risky just to pay it off and live with the lower cash flow. I find it incredibly disappointing that a FINANCIAL INSTITUTION could be so inconsiderate and irresponsible with other people's money. This is by far the worst customer service I have ever received, and I felt so strongly about this company that I took the time to come online and write a review about it.

The positive thing I can take from this experience is that it has further solidified my relationship with my personal bank. Throughout this entire process, they acted professionally, communicated effectively, and took the time to understand my situation and deal with it accordingly. They excelled in all of the areas that Synchrony fell short. If I could rate this company zero stars, I would. This company is not trustworthy, not professional, and not friendly. I would highly advise other alternatives, as I cannot possibly foresee any other institution being as bad as this one.

I've had their credit card for a few years. They closed my account without telling me. I found out by looking at my Experian report for something and came across it. I called and they said Since, I have had two returned payments they closed my account. I understand why when both payments were resubmitted and cleared. These payments were not back to back or within the same year period or statement period. This doesn't make sense but that's okay they can keep it closed. I will pay the remaining balance left owed and they can kick rocks. I like my Discover card better anyways.
